The Promise of Treasure

As (Captain) and company prepare to depart from the gastroverse, Pino offers to show them his collection of books and treasures. This captures the interest of Robin and Nami, and they set off for Pino's secret base along with (Captain), Lyria, Vyrn, and Cagliostro.

Now that Pino has announced his decision, (Captain)'s crew and the Straw Hat Crew gear up to depart from this hydrozoan world.
In the midst of their preparations, (Captain) and company visit the ladies of the pirate crew to find Nami lamenting their situation.
Nami: Ugh... The fact that we haven't been able to replenish our food supply really puts us in a tight spot.
Nami: Even if Sanji can work a bit of rationing magic, it's hard to say whether our stock will last until the next island.
Robin: At least the jellyfish has assured us that the Sunny is safe and sound at the location where we were abducted.
Robin: As for the ship's aquarium, pantry, and whatnot... I suppose we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed.
Cagliostro: Equipment can fall into disrepair surprisingly fast when it isn't used, so I wouldn't get my hopes up.
Nami: It'd be ideal if we could at least get some supplies on this island. Assuming we can afford to do some exploring, that is.
Pino: Oh, I can help with that! I always keep some food stashed away for a rainy day.
Robin: My, what a generous offer. But are you sure?
Pino: Course I am! You can take as much as you need!
Nami: Well great, thanks! Then I'll go ask Sanji and the boys to come handle the heavy lifting.
While waiting for Nami to return, (Captain) and company chat with Robin and Pino.
Lyria: Robin, you can grow arms from places other than your body, right? That's so interesting!
Robin: Yes, that's correct. I'm able to control them without issue from a certain range, and I can even make them bloom directly on another individual.
Pino: Can lots of people in other worlds do what you do?
Robin: I'm not sure. I personally haven't encountered anyone aside from myself... but what about you, (Captain)?
  1. Growing arms is pretty unique.
  2. Could you do it, Cagliostro?

Choose: Growing arms is pretty unique.
Lyria: Yeah, I'd say so. We do know people who have a lot of arms though, like Shiva.
Lyria: It's really incredible how you can sprout them one after another wherever you want!
Robin: Hehe. Goodness, I'm not used to receiving such candid compliments. You might just make me blush.

Choose: Could you do it, Cagliostro?
Cagliostro: What would be the point of me growing arms elsewhere? Even if I could, I wouldn't know what to do with them.
Cagliostro: Though I can see the appeal of using them to fight, like Robin does...
Cagliostro: Wait! Would it be possible for me to transform myself in battle? Like my appearance and age?
Cagliostro: Suddenly I find myself very interested in your ability, Robin. Would you mind telling me more about it later?
Robin: Hehe. It sounds as though we'll be able to learn a lot from each other.

Pino: Wow! Special powers and magic... It's like something right out of one of my adventure tales!
Robin: Reading books that drifted here from other worlds is what made you want to travel, correct?
Robin: Would any of them happen to concern history or folklore?
Robin: It isn't every day you have the chance to learn about other worlds, so I'd love to examine them. If you wouldn't mind, that is.
Pino: History? Hmm, I think I remember seeing some like that. They talked about the gods that created the country and stuff...
Pino: Hey, how about I show you my secret base on the way to picking up the food?
Pino: I have a bunch of things there, books included! Oh, and some shiny treasures you can have—
Nami: Did somebody say "treasure"?
Vyrn: Whoa, don't pop out like that! You're gonna give somebody a heart attack!
Nami: Whoops, sorry. I just can't help myself whenever someone mentions treasure.
Nami: So can we really have some? No strings attached?
Pino: Yeah! Just think of it as a thank-you for all your help.
Nami: Aw, thanks! You're such a good kid, Pino!
Nami: In that case, I'll go tell Sanji and the guys not to bother coming after all.
Nami: They'd just end up causing chaos anyway. And we'll be fine as long as we have Pino to guide us.
Robin: Hehe. In other words, this will be our own secret treasure hunt.
Robin: That sounds like great fun. I hope the rest of you will join us, (Captain).
Vyrn: Heh. A secret base sounds pretty cool, so count me in! Let's go check it out, Pino!
Pino: Okay! I'll lead the way, so follow me!
Pino marches off, a bright smile on his face.
In the footsteps of his eager lead, (Captain) and company set off toward the secret base.

The Promise of Treasure: Scene 2

Cagliostro creates new outfits for Robin and Nami after their clothes are ruined by an acid-spitting plant. When Robin discovers a treasure map inside a book at Pino's secret base, the group heads to the designated location, where they find a figure swaying in the dense fog.

(Captain) and company make their way toward Pino's secret base.
As the path winds deeper into the forest, their footing becomes increasingly treacherous.
Nami: Yuck, the ground is all slimy. Feels like my feet are sinking into this ivy stuff.
Robin: Let's try to avoid treading on it as much as we can... though I'm not sure that's possible, considering how dense it is.
Vyrn: Careful, Lyria. You don't wanna take a tumble around here.
Lyria: Y-yeah...
Nami: Wait, that spot looks slick—
Lyria: Whoa!
Enraged Flora: ...!
Nami & Robin: Watch out!
Lyria: Oh no! Nami, Robin—I'm so sorry! Are you okay?
Cagliostro: Crap, did it spray them with acid?
Nami! Can you call down a flood with that Climate Baton of yours?
Nami: S-sure thing!
Rain Tempo!
Heavy rain pours down from the cloud Nami summons, washing away the acid that had splattered on her and Robin.
Robin: Phew... That was a bit too close for comfort. Thankfully there doesn't seem to be any lingering pain or numbness.
Robin: That being said, it seems to have done a number on our wardrobe.
Pino: Sorry, you guys. I should've been paying closer attention...
Lyria: No, it's okay! It's my fault for not watching where I was going...
Nami: Nah, don't worry about it. The ground's so slippery, it was bound to happen.
Nami: But we can't exactly stay like this. And we didn't bring any spare clothes...
Cagliostro: That won't do now, will it? At this rate, a certain innocent boy won't be able to keep his greedy little eyes off you.
Cagliostro: Just leave it to little genius Cagliostro!
Nami: Wow, where did these clothes come from? Did you make them just now?
Cagliostro: Well, I didn't sew them or anything, but yeah. I created them using alchemy, so they're actually copies of outfits belonging to a couple of crew members.
Cagliostro: I tried to pick people with a similar physique and personality. Looks like I was right on the mark, as usual.
Lyria: Yeah! Both of you look really great!
Robin: Hmm... This outfit is quite different from what I'm accustomed to wearing, but it's certainly easy to move in. Thank you for the loan.
Nami: The open back might be a little much... but I guess I'll get used to it eventually.
Vyrn: All right, then let's keep movin'! But carefully this time!
Pino: We're here! Welcome to my secret base!
Cagliostro: Well, well. This definitely surpasses my expectations...
(Captain) and company look around in keen interest as Pino proudly unveils his secret base.
The inside of the cave is filled with various items like books, tools, and plant seeds.
Robin: My, what a magnificent book collection. Did you gather them all by yourself?
Pino: Yep! I brought back anything and everything that caught my eye while exploring the gastroverse!
Pino: In the back I even have jewels and gold and stuff that adventurers gave me as thanks for guiding them.
Pino: If you see anything you want, feel free to take it with you!
Nami: S-seriously? Then I'll go poke around!
Robin: Likewise. This looks like a good place to start reading my way through.
Lyria: Let's do some exploring too, (Captain)!
Vyrn: Hey, Pino. Where's that book of adventuring tales you like so much?
Pino: Oh, I'll go get it! We can read it together!
Robin: This description seems familiar somehow...
Robin: Oh?
As Robin turns the page, a piece of paper falls out and flutters to the floor.
Nami: Hm, what's this? Was there a note stuck inside or something?
Nami: ...!
N-no way!
Nami picks up the paper and scans it, her eyes suddenly going wide.
Lyria: What is it, Nami?
Nami: L-look at this!
Vyrn: Huh? Looks like somebody drew a map...
Nami: Yeah, it's definitely a map of this gastroverse. And it seems pretty accurate.
Nami: But that's not the issue here. Just look at this suspicious cross marking.
Nami: And this important-sounding sentence written on the bottom of the map just seals the deal!
Cagliostro: Let's see... "The treasure is guarded by a specter and the bird it commands"?
Nami: That's right—treasure! There's treasure left by an adventurer buried on this island!
Lyria: What!
Robin: So an adventurer who came to the island hid their fortune here? I find that notion very intriguing, if true.
Pino: Wow, it doesn't get more exciting than that! Let's all go find it together!
  1. Sounds good to me!
  2. What about the supplies?

Choose: Sounds good to me!
Robin: Hehe. (Captain) seems to be on board as well. Then let's be going!
Robin: Pino, Nami—can we count on the two of you to show us the way?
Nami: Sure, leave the map reading to me! Off we go!

Choose: What about the supplies?
Nami: We just need to pick them up before we get sent back to our ship. There's plenty of time to find some treasure first!
Nami: Pino and I will show you the way, so you guys make sure to stick close!
Nami: Oh, and if anything dangerous pops up, we'll be counting on your crew to handle it, (Captain)!
Cagliostro: Sheesh. Sounds like we've got no choice but to tag along.
Continue 1
Thus (Captain) and company set out with Pino and Nami leading the pack.
Nami: According to the map, it looks like our destination is at the end of this path.
Pino: So the trail continues through the hollow trees... I never knew this was here!
Lyria: There's not much light down there. It's a little scary...
Robin: The elevation gets lower as the path goes along. It appears as though cold air accumulates at the bottom of the basin, creating fog.
Robin: That must be why the treasure was hidden there. But why would someone leave their fortune in a world they were planning to eventually depart from?
Cagliostro: Guess we'll find out when we locate the goods. The fog's already rolling in, so it shouldn't be much farther.
After continuing down the path, the group arrives in the general area marked on the map.
Robin: The fog has gotten quite thick. We'd better take care not to lose sight of each other.
Lyria: Eek!
Cagliostro: Wonder if that was the birdie that guards the treasure? Jeepers creepers, I'm shaking in my booties!
Pino: H-hey, (Captain)! Look over there!
Pino points to a shadowy figure standing nearby, appearing to sway in the mist.
Nami: Wh-what is that! Are you telling me that whole "specter" thing was true?
Lyria: A-a ghost? What do we do now, (Captain)?
With Lyria clinging onto (Captain) for dear life, the captain peers at the silhouette obscured by the fog.
  1. Doesn't seem like an ambush.
  2. I'm not sensing a threat.

Choose: Doesn't seem like an ambush.
Nami: True, it doesn't look like it's coming this way... but who knows? It might lunge at us the second we take another step.

Choose: I'm not sensing a threat.
Lyria: You mean... it's a nice ghost?
Vyrn: Looks to me like it's on guard to keep anybody from passin' through. But you're tellin' me it's not dangerous?
Continue 2
Cagliostro: Ah, I get it...
Robin: Yes. I believe (Captain)'s hunch is right.
Robin and Cagliostro seem to have noticed a deeper meaning behind (Captain)'s words.
With pointed gazes, they stare at the figure swaying in the fog.

The Promise of Treasure: Scene 3

Nami clears the fog to reveal that the shadowy figure was actually a scarecrow, and Robin takes out an attacking bird. The "treasure" turns out to be the will and logbook of an adventurer who Robin surmises came from Pino's original world. This news reawakens the boy's thirst for adventure.

Nami and Lyria stand petrified before a ghost-like figure.
Beside them, Robin observes the shadow carefully before turning calmly back to Nami.
Robin: Nami, do you think you could use your Climate Baton to clear away this fog?
Nami: Huh? Well, yeah, piece of cake...
Robin: Then would you mind indulging me? I'd appreciate it if you could clear up as large an area as possible.
Nami: Okay. I'm not really sure what you're getting at... but I'll give it a try.
Nami: Gust Sword!
Robin: Just as I suspected.
A gust of wind bursts from Nami's staff, instantly dispersing the fog before them.
With the area now clear, the shadowy figure that had been partially hidden in the mist appears clearly before their eyes.
Lyria: Huh? Is that... a scarecrow?
Vyrn: Yeeep. So the ghost was just some literal dummy?
Robin: Exactly. This place is surrounded by mountains and seems to be prone to fog.
Robin: The haze combined with this peculiar flora is what made the scarecrow appear to be a ghost in our eyes.
Robin points to a plant growing at the base of a tree.
Nami: Oh! Isn't that the same one that made Sanji see things?
Robin: Its scent must have a hallucinogenic effect as well. But since we obviously didn't ingest it, the efficacy was weak.
Robin: Still, it seems to have been enough to deceive anyone expecting to encounter a ghost.
Lyria: I-I see... So that means there aren't any ghosts! Th-thank goodness!
Cagliostro: Hah, don't drop your guard just yet.
Cagliostro: According to the map, there's another challenge that awaits adventurers, remember?
Vyrn: Oh yeah. The map said somethin' about the specter commandin' a bird too.
Cagliostro: Right. But considering the "specter" is just a scrawny beanpole playing dress-up, I think we can safely say there's no beast under its control.
Cagliostro: The bird is simply watching and waiting for prey to enter its territory from a blind spot where it won't be seen...
Giant Bird: ...
Robin: I see. So it's eyeing us from somewhere we can't reach, such as... up in a tree.
Robin: And then it plans to swoop down at us from far above...
Giant Bird: ...!
Robin: Hehe. But I'm afraid you've met your match. My hands can reach you wherever you are.
Robin: Dos Fleurs... Clutch!
Giant Bird: ...!
Nami: All right, that takes care of the last threat! Nice job, Robin!
Pino: Th-then that means... our goal is just up ahead!
Nami: Yeah, so let's get a move on! There's a legendary treasure waiting for us!
(Captain) and company continue on until they arrive at the spot marked on the map.
After digging in the ground for a short while, they uncover a suspicious box. However...
Nami: What is this? Is this really the treasure?
Vyrn: Doesn't look like any kinda shiny fortune to me.
They peer into the box to find nothing aside from a faded envelope and a stack of papers.
Robin: This envelope could hold a letter. Let's see...
Robin opens the envelope and scans through its contents.
Robin: My life will soon come to an end. With my companions having succumbed to the wounds inflicted upon each other, there is no hope of returning to our adventure.
Robin: Though I can accept this as our fate, my only regret is that any proof we lived will be lost to the ages.
Robin: Therefore, I have decided to draw a map of this place and entrust our entire adventure to whoever has the courage to seek it out.
Robin: I ask that you might travel to the ends of the world in our place.
That's what it says.
Lyria: So they were never able to return home...
Nami: The person who buried this must have been one of the adventurers who ended up fighting their friends.
Nami: And this stack of papers looks like... a journal. So basically a logbook of their journey.
Nami: Wow. If everything written in here is true, they had quite the trip.
Nami: It even mentions the locations of hidden treasure! Not that we'll ever go to their world...
Robin: Indeed...
Oh? Nami, could I see that logbook for a moment?
Robin: Ah, I knew it. It's the same as the description in that history book I was reading earlier.
Robin: Say, Pino. The jellyfish told you a great deal about your former world after she began to speak with you, correct?
Robin: Look at this passage here. It matches the characteristics that she described to a T.
Robin: Perhaps the owner of this journal wandered in from the same world as you.
Pino: R-really?
Pino reads through the journal with wide eyes before nodding excitedly.
Pino: You're right. It's just like Mama's stories about my home.
Pino: So does this mean I can find beasts as big as a mountain or treasure hidden in the depths of islands back in my original world?
  1. Let's hunt treasure for real next time.
  2. Guess you'll have to see for yourself.

Choose: Let's hunt treasure for real next time.
Pino: Yeah! You bet!

Choose: Guess you'll have to see for yourself.
Pino: Yeah. I'll never know if it's really true until I see it with my own eyes!
Continue 1
Pino: Just thinking about it gets my heart racing!
Robin: Hehe, I can see that. The jellyfish is going to take us to task for putting all these dangerous ideas into your head.
Nami: Seriously. That look in his eyes reminds me of how our guys get sometimes.
Nami: If that's the case, he won't stop until he sees everything firsthand.
Seeing Pino overcome with excitement, Nami and Robin exchange sheepish smiles.
But despite their somewhat concerned expressions, their eyes sparkle with the thrill of adventure.
