Windy Hood

Vyrn attempts to strike up a conversation with Yamanbagiri despite his curt replies. Lyria shows up later, but she and Vyrn get a little carried away with his hood, prompting the swordsman to run off.

Yamanbagiri: ...
Yamanbagiri Kunihiro stands on the deck of the Grandcypher, staring into the vast reaches of the sky.
Vyrn: Heyo, what you doin' out here alone, Hoodie?
Yamanbagiri: Just enjoying the view.
Vyrn: Hahah, I hear ya. The weather's real nice today.
Yamanbagiri: Definitely.
Yamanbagiri's response is terse as he slightly nods.
But Vyrn pays no heed to the fact and turns to (Captain), who is standing beside him.
Vyrn: Hey, (Captain), we should get to the next island in no time if the wind and sunny weather keep up.
(Captain) concurs.
Vyrn: First thing I'm doing when we land is stock up on apples! Not gonna make the mistake of starving myself of those luscious crimson orbs like I did on the last island!
Vyrn: How 'bout you, Hoodie? Any yummy food you're looking forward to?
Yamanbagiri: Not in particular.
Vyrn: Yeah? Well, an apple a day keeps me chipper!
Yamanbagiri: I see...
Yamanbagiri: ...
Yamanbagiri: You guys...
Vyrn: Hm? Hood got your tongue?
Yamanbagiri: Why... are you so kind to me?
Vyrn: Huh?
Vyrn and (Captain) trade puzzled looks.
Vyrn: Erm... Sorry if we're being a pain in the butt...
Yamanbagiri: No, that's not it...
Vyrn: Then why'd you even ask something like that?
Yamanbagiri: The fact that you'd pay so much attention to a mere duplicate like me...
Vyrn: Huh? Whaddya mean by duplicate?
Yamanbagiri: ...
Yamanbagiri: Never mind. Just know that nothing good will come of your attention for me.
Vyrn: Umm... You and your hood just totally lost me.
Yamanbagiri: Your crew holds many types of weapons.
Vyrn: Yep, we've been all over the place. Gives us the chance to pick up lotsa new gear.
Yamanbagiri: I'm sure that includes many invaluable blades.
Vyrn: Never gave it much thought. I just figure it's all hot stuff.
Yamanbagiri: Yes. So please shower them with your love and attention... and pay me no heed.
Yamanbagiri: As I am but a copy, I can only do so much...
Yamanbagiri's words leave (Captain) and Vyrn more perplexed.
Vyrn: I dunno what your deal is, Hoodie, but chin up already.
Vyrn: Ah, I know! Covering your face with that hood all the time has got you down in the dumps!
Vyrn: Whaddya think, (Captain)?
  1. Take it to the dry cleaner's.
  2. Let's play catch with it!

Choose: Take it to the dry cleaner's.
Yamanbagiri: Erm... It's fine as is.

Choose: Let's play catch with it!
Yamanbagiri: Stop that!
Yamanbagiri: Without this, I'd be...

Lyria: Ah! Vyrn! I was looking all over for you!
Vyrn: Yikes! It's Lyria!
Lyria: You took the candy that I was saving all this time, didn't you?
Vyrn: Eep! Hoodie-man, lemme in your hood!
Yamanbagiri: Gah, cut that out! My hood is no hiding spot!
Lyria: Grr, Yamanbagiri! Bring him out now!
Yamanbagiri: Hey! Don't touch!
Vyrn: Okay, okay, I give up! It was all my fault, Lyria!
Lyria: Shame on you, Vyrn! Now stop hiding and come out here already!
Yamanbagiri: C-cease this silliness at once!
Yamanbagiri raises a flustered voice at their rough-and-tumble struggle.
A fierce wind blows over Yamanbagiri's hood.
Yamanbagiri: Damn!
Yamanbagiri: You two get away from me!
It takes only a split second for Yamanbagiri to readjust his hood.
Yamanbagiri: Had enough yet?
Lyria: Wow! Your hair's so shiny and pretty, Yamanbagiri!
Yamanbagiri: P-p-pretty? Don't say that!
Vyrn: Huh? What's with you? Why not just leave your hood off?
Lyria: That's right! Why the rush to put it back on?
Yamanbagiri: This tattered part of me ensures that I'll be incomparable...
Vyrn: Erm... Come again?
Yamanbagiri: It's nothing...
Vyrn: You know, Hoodie, you're definitely on the top of my list of guys who don't make much sense.
Yamanbagiri: Are we done yet? I'm going.
Yamanbagiri Kunihiro finally makes his not-so-dramatic escape.

A Blade's True Worth

A man visits the blacksmith's workshop claiming to have possession of a sword forged there—a claim refuted by the blacksmith. With Yamanbagiri and Tsurumaru in tow, the crew checks out the auction grounds where the sword was purchased.

While (Captain) and company are staying at the foundry, one man comes to visit.
He's traveled far upon hearing of the blacksmith's outstanding reputation.
Rich Guy: Howdy, I've heard all about you. It's an honor to meet you like this.
Blacksmith: Thanks for coming all the way out here...
Rich Guy: Truth is, I got ahold of a sword forged by you the other day.
Rich Guy: The moment I laid eyes on it, I knew I had to rub shoulders with the craftsman behind it.
Vyrn: Cool story. That sword in your hand it?
Rich Guy: Yep! I acquired it at some auction.
Yamanbagiri: Auction? Oh, I've heard of those before.
Rich Guy: I had to fork over a pretty rupie, but I don't regret it one bit! This thing's the stuff of legends!
Blacksmith: Is it all right if I take a closer look?
Rich Guy: Sure, go right ahead! It's, in a way, your katana after all!
Blacksmith: This is...
Vyrn: You okay, gramps?
Blacksmith: I hate to say this, but this blade is not a creation of mine.
Rich Guy: You serious? That can't possibly be true!
Lyria: Well, the blacksmith seems pretty convinced...
Blacksmith: My apologies...
Rich Guy: But I paid a fortune for it!
Vyrn: Blame the auction, not us.
Tsurumaru: Though we're not sure if you were intentionally ripped off, or if something got mixed up.
Yamanbagiri: It'd be kind of messed up if you were cheated on purpose.
Rich Guy: Crud! I won't let this pass! You folks are skyfarers, right?
Vyrn: Yup! And (Captain)'s our captain!
Rich Guy: I've a favor to ask. I want you to uncover the plot behind the auction.
(Captain) and company trade glances at the sudden request.
Lyria: Hm, if there's people being conned, then we have to help!
Vyrn: Yeah. Let's look into it, (Captain)!
And thus the crew ends up investigating the auction.
An introduction from the client allows the crew to sneak into the auction grounds.
Tsurumaru: The host for today's auction is the very same person who duped our client.
Vyrn: Well, I don't see anything fishy for now...
Yamanbagiri: I spot a few armed folks.
Lyria: Hm... Aren't they just part of the local watch?
Vyrn: Could be. But they've got a bad-guy vibe about them.
Tsurumaru: Definitely, I smell something afoot.
Yamanbagiri: If they're on the watch, then they must be with the host.
Yamanbagiri: We'll capture them and make them reveal the location of the real culprit!
Tsurumaru: Hold it there. Wouldn't that cause a ruckus? Let's see how things play out first.
Tsurumaru: I want to surprise myself with some of this auction stuff first.
Yamanbagiri: This isn't your personal playtime, you know...
Tsurumaru: C'mon now, this event looks to be so much fun. Why not partake in the surprises that await?
Yamanbagiri: We did not come here to fool around.
Lyria: With all the bidders around, it's probably best we don't stand out too much anyway.
Yamanbagiri: Sigh... Fine...
Tsurumaru: Perfect! Let's get closer to the front where the action is.
Yamanbagiri: I'll leave this place to you guys.
Vyrn: Going somewhere, Hoodie?
Yamanbagiri: I'll be watching the surrounding area.
Lyria: And there he goes...
Tsurumaru: Oh, it'll be fine. He does his part; we do ours.
(Captain) nods and scans the auction grounds.

A Blade's True Worth: Scene 2

Yamanbagiri overhears guards mentioning fake replica items being auctioned. He confronts the guards only to incur their sudden attack.

Yamanbagiri: ...
Yamanbagiri, now off on his own, surveys the surrounding area.
Bad Guy 1: Are the goods in order?
Bad Guy 2: Do you even have to ask? I even did a triple check.
Bad Guy 1: Triple check, eh? As if it matters. Around half the documents are forged anyway.
Bad Guy 2: Half? Get outta here—it's more like a third.
Bad Guy 1: Heh, sounds about right.
Yamanbagiri: Greetings.
Bad Guy 2: Who the heck are you?
Bad Guy 1: You look rather shabby for one of our esteemed guests... You do know this area is off-limits, right?
Yamanbagiri: You're plotting something sinister, aren't you?
Bad Guy 1: Humph. Eavesdropping, are you?
Bad Guy 1: We can't have you making a fuss about this. You're gonna stay put right here.
Yamanbagiri draws his own sword in response.
Yamanbagiri: You're the ones who need to stay put here!
Bad Guy 2: Think you can take us on, tough guy?
Bad Guy 1: Hold it. I know he looks like a bum, but that's a pretty good sword he's got on him.
Yamanbagiri: Hah. What an astute observation for a bunch of bad guys.
Bad Guy 2: Tch, you're one to talk.
Bad Guy 1: Hand over your sword, and we might just let you go. Heck, we might even throw in a pretty rupie for good measure.
Yamanbagiri: That's a laugh! I will not be bought! My sword is mine alone!
Bad Guy 2: Cocky son of a katana!
Bad Guy 1: No matter—we'll just have to take it by force!

A Blade's True Worth: Scene 3

While Yamanbagiri effortlessly topples the opposition, Tsurumaru captures the auctioneer. After the incident Tsurumaru remarks on how the blade brought in by the man is actually of exceptional quality, and the "fake" label is simply something tacked on by people. Unsure of how to react, Yamanbagiri simply tugs on his hood and walks off.

Yamanbagiri: Hrgh!
Bad Guy 2: Ack!
Yamanbagiri: Hyaagh!
Bad Guy 1: Ngh...
Yamanbagiri: You continue to resist?
Bidder 1: Hm? Something happening over there?
Bidder 2: Yeah, what's all the ruckus?
Yamanbagiri: ...!
Yamanbagiri's flashy moves draw the attention of the nearby crowds.
Bidder 1: Is this some kind of sideshow over here? You look pretty tough.
Yamanbagiri: Erm, well...
Bad Guy 1: Crap, this is bad! We'd better let our boss know!
Yamanbagiri: Hold it!
Tsurumaru: Whoa! Headed somewhere?
Bad Guy 1: Urgh! Outta the way!
Tsurumaru: No can do. It's no surprise that this man is your master.
Auctioneer: ...
The bad guys hang their heads in shock and disappointment.
Bad Guy 1: H-how did you—
Tsurumaru: I saw that he was up to no good, so I tied him up. That's the gist of it.
Bad Guy 1: Up to no good? Pssh, what a load of baloney!
Yamanbagiri: Still denying it, huh? I suggest you give it up already.
Tsurumaru: No point trying to persuade a bunch of bad guys. Let's round them up already.
The crew hands the auctioneer and his partners in crime over to the local authorities.
Tsurumaru: It's a shame we didn't get to check out the auction, but at least we accomplished what we set out to do.
Vyrn: Heheh! It's all hunky-dory news we'll get to report back with!
Lyria: Ah! What do we do with this sword?
Yamanbagiri: It's another one of those swords our client was duped into buying.
Vyrn: Well, he did ask us to dispose of any other fakes we came across.
Tsurumaru: All the more reason for us to bring these back as proof.
Vyrn: Good thinking, Silverlocks!
Tsurumaru: Anyhow...
Tsurumaru unsheathes the sword they received from the rich man and takes a good look at it.
Tsurumaru: The blacksmith said he had no part in this blade's creation, but...
Tsurumaru: It's a really solid weapon nonetheless. Kind of makes sense to charge an exorbitant price for it.
Lyria: Yeah. Such a shame it's fake.
Tsurumaru: In the end, a sword is a sword. Fake is nothing more than a label some might apply to it.
Tsurumaru: Yamanbagiri, what are your thoughts on this?
Yamanbagiri: I'm not sure...
Tsurumaru: Regardless, fooling others into parting with their hard-earned money is unforgivable.
Vyrn: Right on! Good thing we caught that crooked auctioneer!
Lyria: Mm-hm! All thanks to Yamanbagiri distracting the guards for us!
Yamanbagiri: I didn't do much...
Vyrn: Ooh yeah, you did! When you went all berserker rage on 'em, we were able to swoop right in and fetch us a villain!
Yamanbagiri: Berserker rage?
Tsurumaru: Yeah, even I was impressed... Or should I say, surprised?
Vyrn: Hahah! Gimme five, Hoodie!
Yamanbagiri: Rgh, enough already.
Yamanbagiri Kunihiro turns away and tugs hard on his hood.

Pride and Conviction

Yamanbagiri expresses concern over the crew showering him—a mere duplicate of the original sword—with so much attention. Despite the fact, he promises to do everything within his power to meet (Captain)'s every expectation.

Yamanbagiri: You...
Yamanbagiri Kunihiro, looking as suspicious as ever with a hood draped over his head, calls out to (Captain).
Yamanbagiri: What's the meaning of this?
Yamanbagiri: What do you hope to accomplish by taking such good care of a duplicate?
Yamanbagiri: I am little more than a mere copy of the Yamanbagiri. There is little merit in strutting your stuff with me in hand.
Yamanbagiri: You've got so many authentic, famous swords in your own world. Why dwell on me?
Yamanbagiri: Nonetheless for as long as you keep me within your grasp, I will do my best to meet your every expectation.
Yamanbagiri: I am the first masterpiece of the famed swordsmith Kunihiro. I am no fake.
Yamanbagiri: Just don't expect me to take off my hood.
Yamanbagiri: I know you won't compare me to the original Yamanbagiri, but I can't say the same for others.
Yamanbagiri: I'm more comfortable this way anyway.
Yamanbagiri: Now if only you'd stop telling me how beautiful I am...
(Captain) now understands the conviction of the sophisticated yet zealous Yamanbagiri Kunihiro, which now sparkles more beautifully and intensely than ever.
The Yamanbagiri Kunihiro weapon's level cap has increased from 75 to 120.
