Song of Serpent Island - Opening

The Grandcypher is flying over a small island. Lyria senses a Primal Beast and they find it, in the form of a massive snake. At the same time, Rackam notices that a local village is on fire, so (Captain) and crew decide to set down and help the villagers.

(Captain) and crew have set off once again to another island in their continuing search for the Sky Map pieces.
Vyrn: Look at those mountains! Are we gonna be able to get over 'em?
Rackam: There's nothing the Grandcypher can't do as long as I'm at the whee? Whoa, those are pretty big!
Vyrn: Right? And I mean, the island isn't even that big, which just makes 'em look even bigger! Don't you think, Lyria?
Lyria:
Vyrn: Lyria? What's wrong?
Lyria: …I can feel the presence of a Primal Beast, coming from that mountain! It's a powerful one, too…
Vyrn: What! Ah! On the summit! Something's moving… Is that a snake?
???:
Lyria: That snake is the Primal Beast, I'm sure of it!
Rackam: Oi, look over there! There's a fire in the village! What's going on here?
Lyria: Oh no! (Captain), we have to go help them!
Rackam: There's nowhere to land in the village, I'm gonna have to set down in that field over there.

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 1: A Village in Need - Episode 1

(Captain) and crew have landed and are making their way to the burning village when they hear someone being attacked by a monster and go to investigate.

Vyrn: It's good that we found a place to land, but now which way is the village?
Rackam: It was that way, I'm sure of it.
???: Aaaaaa! A monster! Somebody heeelp!
Lyria: Someone's being attacked by a monster! (Captain), we have to help them!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 1: A Village in Need - Episode 1: Scene 2

It turns out the people being attacked are an old Erune and a young human boy. (Captain) and crew take on the monsters.

Monster: Grrr…
???: Humph, compared to the kinds of dragons and drakes I'm used to fighting, this is little more than a pet bunny!
???: Watch out! We should get out of here!
???: Elta, the worst thing you can do is turn y our back to a monster! That's when they get ya!
Vyrn: Oi! Kid! Old man! You all right? We came as soon as we heard the scream!
Elta: Scream? Oh no, I didn't mean to scream that loud. And now I've made you come all the way out here to help me…
Rackam: Whether you meant to or not, here we are! Now, get behind us!
Vyrn: Here they come! Get ready, (Captain)!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 1: A Village in Need - Episode 2

(Captain) saves the minstrel Elta and the old skyfarer Keehar from a monster attack. The crew tells them of the nearby village that is on fire, and Keehar confirms that it is their home. (Captain) and crew chase after Keehar and Elta as they hurry to save their homes.

Elta: Thank you so much for saving us! I thought we were done for!
Elta: Ah, where are my manners. My name is Elat, and this is Keehar.
Vyrn: Looks like you two were in real trouble. Good thing we were nearby!
Keehar: You have my thanks! From the looks of ya, I'd say you were skyfarers, am I right? Y'know I used to be one myself.
Rackam: You were? I didn't know they had airships back then.
Keehar: Yer darn right I was! Ah, but that was a long time ago now…
Rackam: We were flying over this island when we saw a village on fire. Are you two from there?
Keehar: A village on fire? The only village in these parts is our home, it must be ours!
Keehar: This is terrible! What if a monster's attacked? We have to get back!
Elta: Hey, Keehar, wait up!
Vyrn: They've gone! Hey, if we follow them, they should take us right to the village!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 1: A Village in Need - Episode 2: Scene 2

The running Keehar and Elta are stopped in their tracks by a monster blocking the only road to the village. (Captain) and crew step up to remove the obstacle.

Keehar: What's this!
Rackam: Y'know, you're pretty fast for an old timer! Why'd you stop all of a sudden?
Keehar: There's a monster blocking the way to the village, and we don't have time to find a way around it! We have to fight it.
Rackam: Oh, is that it? Just leave it to us.
Elta: What would we have done without you? Thank you so much!
Rackam: Save your thanks for after we get to the village! All right, (Captain), time to get to work!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 1: A Village in Need - Episode 3

Keehar explains that when Midgardsormr, the Primal Beast the crew had seen earlier, awakens it brings forth a terrible horde of monsters. Thinking that the fire in the village may have been caused by those monsters, (Captain) and crew ask Keehar to lead the way.

Lyria: We saw the Primal Beast on the mountain, so we were worried about the people in the village.
Keehar: Ah, so you've seen Midgardsormr. He's been here since long before the village was built.
Keehar: He's a mighty ornery beast. Times were hard until one day, long ago, a skyfarer came and somehow put the thing to sleep.
Rackam: Well, I'm afraid to tell ya that he was very much awake when we passed him.
Keehar: It's said that if Midgardsormr were to ever awaken again that he'd bring forth a horde of monsters. This is bad…
Vyrn: You think the fire in the village is because of the monsters that this Midgardsormr's summoned?
Rackam: We'd better hurry, before the fires spreads. Lead the way, old timer!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 1: A Village in Need - Episode 3: Scene 2

It is revealed that the minstrel Elta had been invited to the island by Keehar to perform in his village's festival. Elta is worried that no one will want a festival with all the monsters about, but Vyrn tells him that music might be just what the beleaguered villagers need.

Rackam: Elta, are you from the village too? What were you two doing out in the woods all alone?
Elta: I'm a minstrel. Keehar had invited me here to play in the village festival.
Elta: But now, with Midgardsormr awake and the island overrun with monsters, I doubt anyone's in the mood for festivities…
Vyrn: The villagers must be tired from all the attacks and bloodshed. Your music could cheer them up!
Elta: M-me? I… my music isn't that powerful…
Keehar: Of course it is! You are a rare and singular talent! The viillagers will love you!
Rackam: Well then, the quicker we get to the village the quicker they'll get to hear your music!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 1: A Village in Need - Episode 4

Elta is so worried about monsters coming out and attacking them that he gets a stomachache. Rackam reassures him by saying they'll get them to the village safely. Meanwhile, Lyria's stomach also hurts, though more out of hunger than worry. Keehar says that they'll have a hero's welcome when they get to the village, which is now not far.

Elta: Oh no… I'm terrified of monsters… I'm so nervous, I'm getting a stomachache.
Rackam: Haha! Nothing to be scared of! We'll get you to the village in one piece.
Lyria: Ugh….
Vyrn: Hey Lyria, what's up? You don't have a stomachache too, do ya?
Lyria: Ugh… No… I'm just… hungry…
Vyrn: Hmm… I guess we haven't eaten anything since this morning, now that you mention it.
Rackam: We can get something to eat in the village. Until then you're just gonna have to buck up.
Keehar: A healthy appetite is a sign of a healthy person. Children with a big appetite play hard, study hard, even sleep hard!
Keehar: We're nearly there! Boy will the villagers be glad to see you. Come on, follow me!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 1: A Village in Need - Episode 4: Scene 2

(Captain) and crew arrive safely at the village. However, rather than their expected hero's welcome they find the village deserted. Keehar's shouting attracts the monsters that had invaded the village, forcing the crew to confront them.

Keehar: Well, here we are! Welcome everyone, to my village!
Rackam: Looks like the fire's been put out, but not before it's caused some damage.
Lyria: Are the villagers all right? I don't see anyone, are they hiding from us?
Keehar: Come out everyone, I'm back! It's me, Keehar!
Monster: Grrr!
Lyria: Oh no! The monsters have made it into the village!
Rackam: We shouldn't fight them here, we might mess up the village even more. Let's lead 'em out in to the forest!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 1: A Village in Need - Episode 4: Scene 3

Elta is worried that with the village in such a state the festival won't be able to happen. Keehar argues that it's in times of trouble like this when a festival is most needed and appreciated. Elta does not seem convinced, but before he can counter the group are approached by a young Erune girl.

Rackam: That should be the last of 'em!
Keehar: I owe you one! Even with my considerable skill I would've had trouble with that many monsters!
Elta: But… We're never going to be able to have a festival with the village like this.
Keehar: What? No, it's at times like this that a festival is most called for!
Elta: Huh? I don't think I follow..
???: Grandad!
(Captain) and crew return to the village and are greeted by a young Erune girl. Perhaps the festival could work after all.

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 2: The Truth of the Festival - Episode 1

(Captain) and crew are welcomed back to the village by Keehar's granddaughter, Selfira. She is very grateful for the crew's help in ridding the village of the marauding monsters. Rackam hears more monster on their way, so the crew head out to meet them in battle.

???: Grandad!
Keehar: Oho, Selfira! You're back!
Selfira: Grandad, I'm so glad… You're safe… We were worried about you!
Selfira: You shouldn't go out wandering by yourself at your age. You do understand that, don't you?
Keehar: What do you mean "at my age"? I'm still young! But tell me, what's become of the villagers?
Selfira: They're all fine. When we spotted the monsters coming this way we all locked ourselves up in our houses.
Selfira: But when those fiends came into the village… I couldn't stand being holed up any more.
Selfira: Grandad, let's start the festival!
Elta: Erm, about that…
Selfira: …Oh, who are you? You know it's not safe here at the moment, what with all the monsters and Primal Beasts.
Rackam: No need to worry about us, miss. You see, we're skyfarers.
Rackam: We were flying by when we saw a fire in the village, so we came down to investigate.
Selfira: …Skyfarers, you say… Well, thank you. It means a lot to me that you came down to help.
Elta: Erm… I'm not a skyfarer like these guys…
Rackam: I hear monsters, and they sound close! We have to stop them before they get to the village!
Keehar: Understood! Let's take them out!
Rackam: Old timer, wait up! (Captain), let's go after him!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 2: The Truth of the Festival - Episode 1: Scene 2

Selfira doesn't feel comfortable leaving the fate of her village in the hand of people she doesn't know so she joins the crew as they head out to meet the monsters. Elta admires her bravery as he cowers at the back of the group. Selfira sees this, and begins to question why he's there with the crew.

Rackam: Miss! It's about to get very dangerous out here, you should head back to the village!
Selfira: …That "village" is my home. I'm not about to leave its fate up to a band of strangers.
Elta: W-wow, so brave. I wish I were that b-b-brave…
Selfira: …I hear monsters are a skyfarer's bread and butter. How do you manage if you're this scared of them?
Selfira: …Actually, did you say something earlier about not being a skyfarer? But if you're not, then…
Vyrn: Guys, this isn't exactly a good time for a chat! The monsters are coming!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 2: The Truth of the Festival - Episode 2

After realizing that Elta was a minstrel that her grandfather had brought in to perform at the festival, Selfira reveals that she intended to perform there instead. Elta suggests that they might both perform, with Selfira as the headline act, to which Selfira asks what kind of festival Elta thinks it's going to be. Before he can answer more monsters appear.

Selfira: You must be… the minstrel my grandad was going on about.
Elta: Erm… Well, yes. Your grandad invited me here to perform in your village festival…
Selfira: …I won't allow it! We can't have such a wimp being the main attraction in our festival!
Selfira: If anyone's going to perform, it should be me! I know the songs better than anyone!
Elta: Er… Um… Well… Is there any reason why we can't both perform in the festival? You can headline, of course…
Selfira: Headline? What kind of festival do you think this is?
Elta: What? There are different kinds of festivals?
Rackam: Hey, you two! We're not done with the monsters yet! Quit yer yapping!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 2: The Truth of the Festival - Episode 2: Scene 2

Lyria can feel Midgardsormr's strength increasing, and tells (Captain) of it. Selfira mentions that she intends to put Midgardsormr to sleep, but before she can answer Vyrn's question of how she intends to do it more monsters come and put a stop to their conversations.

Lyria: I can feel… (Captain), Midgardsormr's power is growing.
Keehar: You can sense the Primal Beast's power? I've traveled far and wide across the skies, but I've never seen anything like that.
Keehar: Bwahahah! The skies really are full of surprises! There's still so much that I don't know, that I've never seen!
Vyrn: You're a lively old man, aren't you? But I agree with you, the skies are full of wonders just waiting to be discovered!
Selfira: So Midgardsormr has awoken, and is slowly gaining power…
Selfira: And as its power grows it attracts more monsters to itself… We need to find a way to put it back to sleep quick!
Vyrn: You want to put Midgardsormr to sleep? How do you propose we do that?
Selfira: I do indeed intend to do that. That's what the festival is for!
Selfira: Long ago Midgardsormr was terrorizing our village, until one day a legendary minstrel skyfarer appeared…
Monster: Groargh!
Rackam: How about you save the rest of that story for after we're done dealing with these monsters!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 2: The Truth of the Festival - Episode 3

Long ago a legendary crew of skyfaring minstrels performed a song that put the mighty Midgardsormr to sleep. The festival the village intends to put on will culminate in a performance of that same song in the hopes that it will quell Midgardsormr once more. Elta, who had thought the festival was going to be a simple celebratory affair, is quite shaken by this alarming news.

Rackam: So what did you mean earlier when you said the festival's gonna put Midgardsormr to sleep?
Selfira: When our ancestors were founding this village, Midgardsormr, and all its underlings, came to the island.
Selfira: It seemed hopeless until a crew of skyfaring minstrels appeared.
Selfira: They performed a song that put Midgardsormr to sleep, and brought peace to the island at last.
Keehar: To put Midgardsormr to sleep we need to recreate that song those minstrels performed so long ago!
Vyrn: Ah, so that's why you brought Elta along!
Elta: What! I-I thought I was just here to perform in a little village festival!
Keehar: Well I wasn't lying about that, this will be a village festival!
Elta: But… I was expecting some kind of celebration, or perhaps a harvest festival… Not something like this…
Rackam: So you had a bit of a misunderstanding… You can sort it out later, after we sort out these monsters!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 2: The Truth of the Festival - Episode 3: Scene 2

Elta is worried that the responsibility being placed upon him of putting Midgardsormr to sleep with his music may be too much, and he is considering running away. Selfira once again suggests she can do it herself, and complains that if her grandfather was going to bring an outsider in to do it, that he at least find someone up for the job. Rackam tries to rouse Elta into defending himself, but he just retreats further into himself.

Elta: B-but, no! That's impossible! Th-there's no way I'll be able to do something like that! Put Midgardsormr to sleep? Me?
Selfira: I always thought it was a bad idea to bring in an outsider. See, Grandad? I told you I should be the one to do it.
Elta: Erm… well, I think I might have to agree with Selfira. Perhaps she should do it…
Keehar: Don't think for a moment that I don't think Selfira is up to the challenge, she absolutely is. She just can't do it alone.
Vyrn: Oh, so there was another reason you brought Elta along?
Selfira: …If you were going to bring an outsider, you could've picked someone braver. We'll be singing to a Primal Beast, remember?
Rackam: Elta, aren't you going to defend yourself? Speak up, man!
Elta: …Well… They're not wrong… I'm not a very brave person…
Rackam: What! Come on, you've gotta speak up! Fake it until you make it, that's the key to confidence!
Elta: Erm… Um… I'm sorry…

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 2: The Truth of the Festival - Episode 3: Scene 3

Elta, upon hearing that Lyria doesn't know where she comes from, reveals that he too has no memory of his parents. The only thing he remembers is a song, which Lyria very much wants to hear.

Selfira: Lyria, you don't seem like the type to go looking for adventure. Why did you join the crew? Are you looking for something?
Lyria: Looking? I suppose you could say that. You see, I don't know where I'm from, or even where I was born.
Elta: …Really? Me too. I have no memory of my parents.
Elta: The only thing I remember is a song. Well, more of a nursery rhyme.
Lyria: Really? I'd love to hear it some time!
Rackam: Ah! I'm afraid the concert's gonna have to wait. More monsters incoming!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 2: The Truth of the Festival - Episode 3: Scene 4

When Elta quickly agrees that Selfira would probably do a better job at the festival, Selfira confronts him about why, as a professional musician, he doesn't have more pride in his abilities. Rackam tries to encourage him to have a bit of confidence in himself and defend his abilities, but Elta just says that he doesn't like confrontations.

Elta: Ah, erm, Selfira?
Selfira: What is it?
Elta: Well, I just… I want to say that I agree with you… You should be the one to…
Selfira: I knew you'd understand. After all, I've been practicing the song my whole life.
Selfira: I'm not trying to say you're not a good musician, but there's no way you'll be better at this particular song than me.
Elta: Y-yeah… So…
Selfira: But having said that…
Elta: ?
Selfira: Aren't you going to defend yourself?
Selfira: You're a professional musician. Don't you have any pride? Why do you just give in so quickly?
Elta: Well.. Erm… I'm sorry…
Rackam: Stop that! Elta, you don't have to keep apologizing all the time!
Rackam: She just insulted your abilities, you should get mad!
Elta: But… I don't like confrontations…
Elta: Whenever I'm around new people, I just can't seem to get my voice to work… It's been a problem I've been dealing with all my life.
Selfira:
Keehar: …This is no good. We're never going to put Midgardsormr to sleep at this rate.
Vyrn: Huh? Did you say something, gramps?
Keehar: No, I didn't say anything! Come on, we're close to getting the last of the monsters attacking the village!
Keehar: (Captain), let's give one last push!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 2: The Truth of the Festival - Episode 3: Scene 5

Rackam tells Elta that he shouldn't apologize so much, and to have more self-confidence. Elta says that he does it so as to not annoy anyone. Selfira gets mad at this, but is calmed down by Keehar.

Rackam: Elta, you should stand up for yourself more.
Rackam: It's a good thing to apologize when you've done something wrong, but you do it too much.
Elta: But, when I see people get mad, I think I've done something wrong, so I apologize.
Elta: I've never been good at taking care of myself… I've always had to depend on other people… Getting in their way…
Elta: I figure if I apologize first, that they won't get so angry. It never works, though…
Rackam: Elta…
Elta: Ahaha… Maybe this is why my parents left. Maybe they got sick of caring for me…
Selfira: …You can't say that for sure until you ask them.
Elta: What?
Selfira: Maybe they did leave because of you, or maybe it was something else. You can never know for sure.
Selfira: Instead of worrying over the past, why not start thinking about what you can change in the future?
Keehar: Come now, Selfira. There are many kinds of people in the world. We should celebrate that diversity, not force conformity.
Selfira: …Of course. Maybe I was coming on a bit strong there. I'm sorry, Elta.
Elta: D-don't be sorry. I'm sure you're probably right.
Elta: B-but… I've been like this for so long… I don't know how to be anything else…
Keehar: That shows your dedication, Elta. I'm sure if you keep on being you, you'll find the answers you're looking for.
Keehar's words of encouragement seem to have little effect on Elta's mood.
As the crew carry on with their conversation, Midgardsormr continues to gain strength.

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 3: Family Invasion - Episode 1

Just as the crew think they have successfully protected the village from the onslaught of monsters, Guivre, one of Midgardsormr's underlings, appears in the skies. Selfira, eager to show her worth to her grandfather, requests that she be allowed to join the party in fighting Guivre. She also asks the reluctant Elta to join them.

Rackam: Phew… That should be the last of the monsters threatening the village.
Lyria: !
Vyrn: Lyria, what's wrong? Is there something up there?
Lyria: Over there, look! It's a serpent, with wings!
???: Groargh!
Elta: Waah! Is it more monsters?
Keehar: That's Guivre, one of Midgardsormr's underlings! It's on a whole other level to the normal monsters!
Rackam: …We can't let it get to the village. Let's take that dastard down!
Selfira: …Take me with you. The songs I've learned should work on the underlings as well, I could help you.
Elta: B-but Selfira, it's going to be dangerous…
Selfira: I was actually hoping you'd join me. We can use this opportunity to test our abilities, see who deserves to play at the festival.
Elta: What! I-I told you, I have no desire to take this away from you!
Selfira: …Grandad, I'll show you that I'm strong enough for this.
Elta: Just listen to me! (Captain), help me explain this to her!
Rackam: …Give it up, Elta. I think once Selfira's made her mind up nothing's going to change it.

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 3: Family Invasion - Episode 1: Scene 2

As wave after wave of monsters come, Keehar explains that Midgardsormr's power turns even the weakest monsters into raging fiends.

Vyrn: I thought we were done with these monsters! Where are they all coming from?
Keehar: It's Midgardsormr. His power will make even the tamest of beasts into a terrifying foe.
Rackam: I guess we'd better keep our wits about us then. All right everyone, stay sharp!
Lyria: Yes sir! And (Captain), don't do anything rash...
Selfira: Don't you worry about me, I can look after myself.

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 3: Family Invasion - Episode 2

The reason Selfira has been so insistent that she be the one to perform the song at the festival and put Midgardsormr to sleep is because she is actually descended from the legendary minstrel skyfarers who first performed the feat. Elta realizes that the song is more than just a tune to her, it is her last connection to her parents.

Rackam: Say, Selfira, is there a reason you're so determined to be the one who performs the song at the festival?
Keehar: It's because Selfira here is descended from those very same legendary minstrel skyfarers in the story.
Selfira: …The songs passed down through my family are the very same ones used to put Midgardsormr to sleep all those eons ago.
Selfira: I want to carry out the duty that was passed down to me by my parents and put the great Midgardsormr to rest.
Elta: So for you, the song is a connection to your past… to your parents…
Selfira:
Keehar: The festival will have to be done before Midgardsormr himself, he has to be able to hear the music!
Elta: Wh-wh-wha?! In front of… But, no! It's too scary to even think about!
Elta: I-I think… I'd better make my way back home…

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 3: Family Invasion - Episode 2: Scene 2

Keehar reveals that he once traveled with the minstrel skyfarers of legend. As the ancient Keehar regales the crew with his story, Lyria looks on him entranced.

Lyria: So if Selfira's descended from the minstrel skyfarers, does that mean you are too?
Keehar: I'm afraid not. I was their protector, a bodyguard, if you will!
Lyria: …Wait. These legendary minstrel skyfarers lived a long time ago, didn't they?
Keehar: Bwahaha! I told you, I'm an old man. And I've been to many places and seen many things.
Keehar: I've seen an island covered in ice… A dragon swimming in lava… There're more wondrous things in this world than you can imagine!
Lyria: Wow! I wonder if we'll see anything like that… Wouldn't that be awesome, (Captain)?
Keehar: Youth is the time to travel! A chance to discover new lands, and find out who you really are!
Vyrn: Hmm, I'm not sure I'm buying this. [nickname], do you think he's telling the truth?
Selfira: …Grandad likes to embellish his stories, but there's always some truth to them.

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 3: Family Invasion - Episode 3

Keehar tells the story of how after her parents died he took Selfira in as his own granddaughter. He makes no attempt to hide his obvious affection for the girl. Selfira starts to blush with embarrassment.

Vyrn: But then, if the old man isn't related to the minstrel skyfarer's, that means he's not really your grandad, right?
Keehar: You're right, she's not actually my granddaughter. You see, I was very good friends with her great-grandparents.
Keehar: Selfira's parents died in an epidemic not long after she was born. I took it on myself to raise the little girl.
Keehar: We might not be blood relatives, but I can assure there is no more loving or protective grandfather in all the skies.
Selfira: …Grandad, I think that's enough. We should be looking out for monsters.
Keehar: Bwahaha! Am I embarrassing you? But I suppose you're right. We shouldn't let our guards down.
Keehar: Now everyone, look on in awe at my skill with the bow!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 3: Family Invasion - Episode 3: Scene 2

Keehar amazes Vyrn with his archery skills. Selfira, however, seems less than impressed. She mentions that in fact Keehar had injured himself recently teaching archery to the local children. Rackam recommends that they pick up the slack so that Keehar will not have to do anything too strenuous…

Vyrn: You weren't kidding old timer, you can really handle yourself!
Keehar: My arrows never miss! I used to take down dragons with a single shot in my youth!
Vyrn: Amazing! I'm sure that'll come in handy when we come up against Midgardsormr.
Selfira: Oh, Grandad… You know you hurt yourself just the other day teaching the children how to fire a bow.
Rackam: Haha, I guess we'll have to keep his role in this to a minimum then. (Captain), we'll have to do our best to pick up the slack!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 3: Family Invasion - Episode 4

(Captain) and crew have found Guivre. Believing that the song designed to put Midgardsormr to sleep will also work on its underlings, Selfira begins to play. Hearing the song, Elta appears shocked.

Rackam: Hold up! There's a huge monster coming right for us… Is that Guivre?
Selfira: My family's song should work on Guivre, let me try!
Vyrn: OK, Selfira, give it your best shot!
Selfira: OK…
Selfira:
Elta: …That song…
Lyria: Wow, that was wonderful.
Vyrn: Hey, appreciate later, attack the giant dragon monster now!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 3: Family Invasion - Episode 4: Scene 2

Selfira's song seems to work against Guivre, who appears to fall straight asleep. However, it was just feigning sleep to draw them in, and it attacks Elta and Selfira. Realizing that her song did not even work against the much weaker Guivre, Selfira loses all confidence she once had about taking on Midgardsormr.

Rackam: OK, that's the small fry dealt with, time to hit the Guivre!
Selfira:
Guivre: !
Vyrn: Whoa, it looks like the song is actually working!
Rackam: It's a lot calmer than it was before. I wonder if it'll go all the way to sleep?
Selfira: …Phew. See, Guivre's fallen right to sleep. What do you think, Grandad?
Elta: Erm… Selfira… About that song…
Guivre: Groargh!
Selfira: Ah!
Rackam: It was just pretending! Quick, get out of there you two!
Guivre: GROARGH!
Elta: Eek!
Selfira: Aaaaaah!
Lyria: Look out!
Guivre had just been feigning sleep to draw them in, and now attacked Selfira and Elta.
Just when all seemed lost, Keehar's arrow shoots past the two minstrels' ears and stops the great beast.
Keehar: Phew, that was a close one. Are you two all right?
Elta: Th-that was so scary. Thank you!
Selfira: Grandad… sob… sob…
Keehar: It's OK, Selfira, Grandad's here for you… The mean monster's gone now.
Selfira: It's not that… It's just… My song, it didn't work.
Selfira: You were right, I'm not ready to take on Midgardsormr…
Elta: Selfira… What are you…
Rackam: Watch out, Guivre's coming this way! (Captain), let's deal with this the old-fashioned way!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 3: Family Invasion - Episode 4: Scene 3

After the defeat of Guivre, Midgardsormr itself comes down from its lofty abode. Looking on as Selfira plays desperately to keep the serpent from the village, Elta begins to play and harmonize with her. After succeffully repelling Midgardsormr, Selfira asks Elta how he knows the song that she thought was a secret known only to her family.

Vyrn: Phew… I don't know how we got out of that one alive…
Selfira: I'm sorry… It's all my fault… I put everyone's lives in danger…
Lyria: Ah! Is that… Midgardsormr?
Midgardsormr:
Rackam: What! It's coming down from the mountain? Looks like it's heading for the village!
Selfira: !
Selfira: Even if I don't have the power to stop it, I can't just stand idly by and watch it destroy my home!
Elta: Selfira!
Elta:
Lyria: Incredible! You're harmonizing with each other!
Vyrn: Such a lovely song. It really calms you down.
Rackam: …Look! Midgardsormr's running away!
Midgardsormr:
Selfira: …Ah…
Lyria: Selfira, are you all right?
Selfira: …I'm fine. I just feel like all my stress has just melted away. Thank you.
Selfira: But…
Elta:
Selfira: Why… How… Where did you learn that song? You can't possibly have made it up on the spot.
Selfira: Elta, you have to tell me!
(Captain) and crew have defeated Guivre, and successfully repelled Midgardsormr.
How is it that Elta knows the song passed down in secret within Selfira's family?
It's not only Selfira, the whole crew looks to Elta for answers. Elta meanwhile, looks increasingly embarrassed.
To be continued…

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 4: A Brief Peace - Episode 1

Selfira is surprised not only that Elta knows the tune, but also that he played a part she had never heard before. Elta explains that the tune is the only thing he remembers about his parents. Selfira believes that if they play the song together that they might just be able to put Midgardsormr to sleep.

Selfira: Please, I need to know. How did you know the song? What's more, it was a part I've never heard before.
Elta: T-to tell you the truth, I was surprised you knew the song, too.
Elta: I have no memory of my parents, the only thing I can remember from them is that song. I've been singing it my whole life.
Keehar:
Elta: I can't tell you how surprised I am to find out the song is supposed to be used like this.
Selfira: …Is this the reason grandad brought you here?
Selfira: Alone the song won't work, I'm not strong enough to put Midgardsormr to sleep. But together…
Rackam: Well, whatever the case, we should get back to the village. Midgardsormr's not the only one who needs to sleep.
Rackam: …Hmm? Elta, what's wrong? Why are you still down there?
Elta: W-When Midgardsormr flew by my knees gave way… And I can't get back up!
Rackam: I guess I can help you up. Just this once, mind you!
Elta: I'm sorry, Rackam… I feel so helpless…
Selfira: Even though your knees gave way, you managed to carry on singing the song… Amazing…
Selfira: …Maybe we have a chance against Midgardsormr after all…

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 4: A Brief Peace - Episode 1: Scene 2

Rackam has been helping Elta walk ever since he fell down in shock upon seeing Midgardsormr. Just as he seemed to be calming down, another monster jumps out and scares the nervous Elta.

Elta: Rackam, I think I can walk on my own now. I'm sorry I had to ask you to help me…
Rackam: Oh, well that's good news. But I have to say this is the first time I've heard of anyone actually falling over in shock.
Vyrn: There are still plenty of monsters about. Try not to let them shock you, Elta!
Elta: I-I'll try!
Monster: GROARGH!
Elta: Waaa! A m-m-monster!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 4: A Brief Peace - Episode 2

Elta falls to the ground, but not before making sure his cello is safe. To Elta there is nothing more important in his life than his music, and this devotion to his craft sparks a spirited conversation with Selfira.

Elta: Wha?!
Lyria: Elta, are you all right? You hit your face on the ground when you fell this time, didn't you?
Elta: Don't worry, my cello is fine!
Vyrn: Forget about your cello, what about your face? It looks painful…
Elta: I can't just "forget" about it! My face will heal in time, but if my cello breaks I don't know if I could fix it…
Selfira: You're right. Musical instruments are fiddly things, you have to be an expert to fix them properly.
Elta: Exactly! For me, my instrument is my life. I can't imagine going even one day without it!
Selfira: There really is nothing like the feel of a lovingly crafted instrument in your hand.
Elta: Selfira, you feel the same way, don't you? I could hear it in your music.
Selfira: My violin has been passed down through the generations. It means everything to me.
Elta: Wow, so the music and the instrument have been passed down to you.
Rackam: Oho, looks like you two are finally getting along.
Keehar: Selfira's never had anyone to talk about music with before.
Keehar: It's not every day that a minstrel like Elta comes to our village, Selfira's understandably excited.
Selfira: …What are you two talking about?
Keehar: Oh, nothing that should concern you! Anyway, we should get back to these monsters!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 4: A Brief Peace - Episode 2: Scene 2

Elta is amazed at Selfira's bravery, and the way she doesn't cower against the monsters. Selfira tells Elta that her secret is that there is something that scares her far more than a few monsters: her fear of what might happen if she fails to beat back the monsters and defeat Midgardsormr is what keeps her going.

Elta: You know, I'm starting to get the feeling that we're never going to get all these monsters.
Selfira: You freezing every time we see one probably isn't helping…
Elta: You're really amazing, Selfira! You face these monsters head on… I wish I was that brave…
Selfira: It's not bravery, just a matter of perspective. There's something that scares me a whole lot more than monsters.
Selfira: Compared to that, fighting a couple monsters is child's play.
Elta: I can't imagine anything scarier that monster coming for me…
Selfira: …The thought of the monsters hurting the villagers, and of Midgardsormr destroying my home, that is truly terrifying.
Elta: I… I can't argue with that. The thought of all those people in danger…
Selfira: …Over there, another monster! Let's make sure it doesn't hurt any of our friends!
Elta: Y-yes! (Captain), let's go!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 4: A Brief Peace - Episode 3

Growing up on Keehar's tales of adventure, Selfira very much wants to go on an adventure of her own. Having never left the island that she calls home, she asks Lyria to tell her tales of her adventures.

Selfira: Lyria, do you enjoy being a skyfarer?
Lyria: Oh yes, it's fantastic! In our travels I've seen more unbelievably amazing things than I could have imagined.
Lyria: Then there are the excellent people we meet, and the delicious food we get to eat, and then...
Selfira: Heehee, I can see you really love it. I grew up on my grandad's tales of his adventures… I've always wanted to go on my own.
Selfira: I've never left this island, you know. Do you mind me asking about your travels? My grandad's stories are getting a bit stale.
Lyria: Of course I don't mind! It will help pass the time as we walk.

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 4: A Brief Peace - Episode 3: Scene 2

Selfira yearns for adventure, but knows that she must fulfil her duties to the village and protect it from Midgardsormr. Vyrn suggests that she may have a chance once they defeat the serpent, a suggestion that Selfira likes the sound of.

Lyria: That's about all of my best stories. But Selfira, if you like adventures this much, why don't you go on your own?
Selfira: My family have protected this island from Midgardsormr for generations. I can't just give up on that legacy.
Vyrn: Well, what about once we put Midgardsormr to sleep? You could go traveling after that.
Selfira: You know… Maybe you're right. I'm going to need more life experience if I want to become a better musician.

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 4: A Brief Peace - Episode 4

Elta, who up until now had always traveled alone, looks on the ebullient camaraderie with envy.

Lyria: Oh look, nuts! I wonder if they're tasty…
Rackam: Hey, don't get distracted! There are still monsters about!
Lyria: Oh! I'm sorry, Rackam.
Rackam: I like your enthusiasm, but just be sure to be careful.
Elta: Ahaha, Rackam, you're really the big brother of the group, aren't you?
Vyrn: Big brother? I always thought of him as the creepy uncle.
Rackam: What! I'm still in my twenties, you little brat!
Elta: …(Captain), you're all such good friends.
Elta: …It must be nice to travel in such good company. I've always traveled alone…

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 4: A Brief Peace - Episode 4: Scene 2

The crew finally seem to have the upper hand against the monsters. Selfira offers to make everyone dinner when they get back to the village, which cheers the crew up considerably. However, before they can move on another monster appears.

Lyria: …Looks like the monsters are finally gone.
Elta: Phew… It's finally over. Good job everyone!
Selfira: You can stay at my house when we get back to the village. I'll make you all dinner. If you want, of course.
Lyria: You'll cook for us? Yay! I can't wait to taste your cooking, Selfira!
Vyrn: Come on, let's get back to the village!
Lyria: Wait! I'm sensing something coming form over there!
Rackam: This better be the last one! I can't wait to get back to the village, I'm starving!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 4: A Brief Peace - Episode 4: Scene 3

(Captain) and crew make it safely to the village. Elta is talking to Keehar, and tells him that he plays his music to enrich the lives of those around him. However, he is afraid that his talents might not be enough to stop Midgardsormr, and that if he fails, people may be hurt.

(Captain) and crew return to the village and receive a warm welcome from the villagers.
Child: Hey, mister, you're a musician ain't ya? Play us a song!
Elta: Um, OK.
Elta:
Child: Wow, that was great! I wanna hear another!
Elta: Hehe, thank you!
Keehar: Bwahaha! I have to agree with the youngling, you really are good!
Elta: It means a lot to hear everyone say that. Music is my life, it's all I know how to do…
Elta: I play my music hoping it brings a little joy into other people's lives.
Keehar: Bwahaha! A lofty goal indeed! I'm sure you're going to bring plenty of people a great deal of happiness.
Elta: I hope so!
Elta: But… I've never played for a Primal Beast before… Midgardsormr is so scary… What if I'm not good enough…
Keehar: Elta, don't you worry about Midgardsormr. He's our problem, you don't need to get involved if you don't want.
Keehar: Elta, (Captain), you were never meant to get involved in this. We wouldn't blame you if you wanted to leave.
Keehar: I've already asked so much of all of you. I'm sorry.
Elta: …No. I mean, monsters and Primal Beasts still scare me…
Elta: But knowing what might happen to (Captain), Selfira, the crew, if I leave…
Elta: That thought is truly scary.
Keehar: Elta… (…You really are a good kid. Even if you are a bit of a coward…)
Elta has finally found the strength to overcome the fear that has held him back all his life.
Meanwhile, Midgardsormr's power increases, regardless of Elta's new found strength…

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 5: A Concrete Concern - Episode 1

The crew, resting up in the village, are rocked by a sudden and powerful earthquake… an earthquake caused by the stirring Midgardsormr. To make matters worse, monsters once again close in on the already shaken villagers.

Lyria: Eek! An earthquake!
Selfira: It's getting worse… Everyone, outside! We don't want to get trapped in here!
Elta: O-OK!
Vyrn: Phew, it's over. Boy, that was a long earthquake!
Keehar: If it even was an earthquake! I fear Midgardsormr may be behind it! But, if he has already gathered enough strength to do this…
Rackam: What? He could already be strong enough to shake the whole island? I dread to think what he'll be like when he's fully awake!
Keehar: Back when the legendary minstrel skyfarers put him to sleep, it was only after a long battle had already tired him out.
Villager: Earthquakes, monsters… Oh what are we going to do?
Child: Mommy! I'm scared!
Villager: Don't worry, everything's going to be OK…
Villager: …I hope…
Monster: GROARGH!
Rackam: The monsters have made it to the village! Quick, (Captain)! Let's get them before they get any closer!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 5: A Concrete Concern - Episode 1: Scene 2

As Midgardsormr wakes up, the monsters on the island grow in strength. Keehar reveals to the crew that the song to put the Primal Beast to sleep was never meant to be a solo, and that teamwork is key to its success. Even so, Elta is worried that he won't be up to the challenge.

Elta: Er… Erm… Is it just me, or are the monsters getting stronger?
Keehar: As Midgardsormr wakes up, his effect on the monsters will get stronger.
Rackam: If we don't do something about Midgardsormr soon we'll be in real trouble.
Selfira: …If only I were stronger… Like my legendary ancestors…
Keehar: Selfira, you still don't understand. Your ancestors only managed to defeat Midgardsormr because they worked as a team.
Keehar: The song was never meant to be played by just one person.
Elta: I… I see…
Elta: (…So if we work together… But… What if even then we're not enough…)
Vyrn: Hey! Let's take care of these monsters first!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 5: A Concrete Concern - Episode 2

As the crew head back to the village Lyria wants to pick mushrooms, but Rackam warns her that they might be poisonous. Elta laughs at the situation and recalls a time he ate poisonous mushrooms. It turns out he has a natural resistance to poisons.

Rackam: There are still a lot of monsters around here. I don't know how anyone can live knowing danger's this close by.
Selfira: Normally the villagers would happily go into the forest to collect mushrooms and fruit…
Lyria: Oh, I do love mushrooms! (Captain), can we go and gather some? Pleeease?
Elta: Yeah! Look, there are mushrooms right here! We wouldn't have to go far to get more than we can carry!
Rackam: Hey, you wanna be careful with wild mushrooms, you never know if they're gonna be poisonous.
Elta: That's happened to me before! I ate a poisonous mushroom, then my stomach started hurting reeeally bad…
Rackam: You ate a poisonous mushroom? You're lucky you just got a stomachache!
Elta: The doctor said the same thing! It turns out I have a natural immunity.
Selfira: …Still, just because you were fine once, doesn't mean you should risk it again.
Selfira: If you want mushrooms, I have some at home, I can cook them up for you. Let's just leave the wild mushrooms for now.
Lyria: OK… They look so inviting, but I guess if they might be poisonous it's not worth the risk…
Vyrn: The village is depending on us, we can't risk getting sick off a bunch of mushrooms!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 5: A Concrete Concern - Episode 2: Scene 2

(Captain) and crew discover another monster in the undergrowth. They pursue the monster as it heads toward the village.

Monster: Grrr…
Selfira: !
Another monster!
Rackam: It's heading straight for the village, we can't let it get away!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 5: A Concrete Concern - Episode 3

Just as Elta comments that he thinks the monsters are gone, he gets pounced on by one from behind. Rackam comes in to defend him, but gets severely wounded in the process. The fracas attracts the attention of more monsters that wee similarly hidden.

Elta: I don't see any more monsters… Is the village safe now?
Rackam: I sure hope so…
Rackam: …Elta, behind you!
Elta: Huh?
Monster: GROARGH!
Rackam's warning came too late, and the monster takes Elta from behind before he has time to react.
Elta: Waaaaaa!
Rackam: No!
Elta: …huh? This… doesn't hurt.
Rackam: …Good… You're not hurt…
Elta: Rackam! You saved me!
Rackam: Ugh…
Elta: Rackam? Rackam! Stay with me!
Monster: Grrr…
Vyrn: Where did all these monsters come from? Were they hiding? (Captain), we gotta protect Rackam!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 5: A Concrete Concern - Episode 3: Scene 2

Elta blames himself for what happened as Keehar tends to Rackam's injuries. Drawn to the scent of blood, a new wave of monsters approaches.

Elta: R-Rackam! Are you OK?
Rackam: Of course! It's just a flesh wou? Ugh…
Keehar: Take it easy! Come here, show me where you got hurt.
Rackam: Will do, Old Timer…
Elta: I'm so sorry, Rackam! I should have been more careful…
Elta: (...It… It should have been me…)
Monster: GROARGH!
Keehar: Oh no, the blood is attracting even more monsters!
Rackam: Can't they give us a moment's rest?

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 5: A Concrete Concern - Episode 4

The crew decide to head back to the village to treat Rackam's injuries. Elta apologizes for getting him injured, so Rackam tries his best to show that the wounds aren't that bad.

Selfira: We should really get Rackam's injuries sorted out. Let's get back to the village as soon as possible.
Rackam: I'm sorry you have to see me like this… I'm so embarrassed.
Elta: Rackam, I'm the one who should be sorry. It's my fault that you're…
Rackam: Didn't I tell you to stop apologizing so much? I… I can't say that you aren't a little responsible, but I'm gonna be fine.
Vyrn: Rackam, conserve your strength! There may be more monsters before we get to the village.

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 5: A Concrete Concern - Episode 4: Scene 2

The crew are back in the village, Rackam's wounds have been treated, and they are all asleep, apart from Elta who is still awake worried about the coming battle. Rackam approaches him and, with some strong words of encouragement, gets Elta to stop apologizing for everything, and to be less scared of the task that lays ahead of him.

(Captain) and crew make it back to the village, and Rackam gets the treatment he needs.
It is the middle of the night, and everyone is sleeping. A solitary shadow moves within the house.
Elta: Rackam got injured… because of me… Why do I always seem to be getting in the way…
Elta: They want me to help Selfira in putting Midgardsormr to sleep… What if I fail, like I always do?
Rackam: …Don't worry about that.
Elta: Rackam! Shouldn't you be resting?
Rackam: I could say the same about you. What are you doing up at this hour?
Rackam: I couldn't sleep with you pacing around over here.
Elta: I-I'm… sorry…
Rackam: Ha! Another apology? Don't be sorry, I know sometimes you need to be alone.
Rackam: …Anyway, so what if you fail? It's better to try and fail than to do nothing at all.
Elta: …But, I'm scared. If it was only my life on the line, it wouldn't be so bad, but that's not the case!
Elta: You, Selfira, (Captain)… If I fail I put all of you in danger!
Rackam: More danger that we're in already?
Rackam: …I know how you feel. I know what it's like to fail to protect your friends.
Rackam: I couldn't forgive myself for the longest time. But then I met (Captain) and the crew, and they helped me back on my feet.
Elta:
Rackam: Here's what I think. I think life is long, there's always a chance to try again, to redeem yourself.
Elta: …But, we're going to have to get close to Midgardsormr if we're going to have any chance of this working.
Elta: …If we fail, life could get a whole lot shorter.
Rackam: I won't let that happen.
Rackam: We'll be there to protect the two of you, don't you worry about that.
Rackam: And you know that we can look after ourselves! So don't be scared, just get out there and do your best!
Elta: Rackam…
Monster's voice: GROARGH!
Vyrn: Rackam! Elta! We've been looking all over for you! What are you doing here? There are monsters in the village!
Rackam: We'll be right there! Compared to Midgardsormr, these monsters are small fry!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 5: A Concrete Concern - Episode 4: Scene 3

Selfira is shouting at Elta for leaving the group without telling anyone. Lyria tells him that she feel he doesn't consider them friends, to which Elta shows surprise and reveals that he's never had friends before. With that secret out, Elta's mood seems to brighten, and he feels he now has the courage to face Midgardsormr.

Selfira: …So tell us, what were you doing up in the middle of the night, all alone?
Elta: Erm… Uh.. Well you see…
Selfira: …We were worried when we saw you were gone. You should have told someone where you were going.
Elta: Um… Wait… Selfira, were you worried about me?
Selfira: …Of course I was! What with all the monsters around here, anything could have happened to you!
Lyria: Exactly! And it makes us feel like you don't trust us!
Lyria: Are we not friends? You should have woken one of us, just to let us know you'd be out.
Elta: Friends…?
Lyria: Of course! We've traveled together, fought together, eaten together… That's real friendship!
Elta: Friends? Friends… Hehehe…
Selfira: …What are you laughing about? I'm still mad at you, you know.
Keehar: Bwahaha! Selfira, just tell him straight. You were sick with worry when you saw that he was gone…
Selfira: …Grandad, could you stay out of this? Please?
Keehar: Bwahaha! OK, let's all head back, shall we?
(Captain) and crew, having defeated the monsters, went back to Selfira's house to get some sleep.
After (Captain) and the others had gone to bed, Elta approaches Selfira before she goes into her room.
Elta: Erm, Selfira…
Selfira: Oh, Elta, you have something you want to say?
Elta: I do. A favor to ask of you, actually…
Elta: Will you do me the honor… of playing the song with me?
Elta, having now been relieved of his fear, has a much brighter look on his face.
The sun rises over a village now unafraid of monsters or Midgardsormr, or of anything that might try to harm them.

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 6: The Snake God's Song - Episode 1

It's morning, and Elta has gathered the crew together to ask them to bring him and Selfira safely to Midgardsormr. Moved by Elta's declaration that he's ready to do what's necessary, (Captain) and the crew prepare to leave.

Elta: (Captain), I have a favor to ask of all of you!
Vyrn: What is it, Elta? That's a mighty serious face for this early in the morning.
Elta: Please help me and Selfira get to Midgardsormr!
Keehar: What! Elta, are you sure you're ready? It's going to be very dangerous.
Elta: I know, I'm ready for it. I'm going to give everything I have to make sure we don't fail.
Elta: But I need your help! I don't think I'll make it to Midgardsormr alone.
Vyrn: Hehe! Of course we'll do it! As if we were ever gonna say no!
Vyrn: Helping this village was literally the reason we landed here in the first place, wasn't it, (Captain)?
Rackam: Just leave it to us! With me at the wheel there ain't nowhere I can't get the Grandcypher to go!
Selfira: …Thank you. Really, everyone, Elta too…
Vyrn: Hey, I think you're skipping to the end! We still have to do the thing!
Lyria: You're right! OK, everyone, let's put Midgardsormr to sleep once and for all!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 6: The Snake God's Song - Episode 1: Scene 2

(Captain) and the crew leave aboard the Grandcypher heading toward Midgardsormr's abode. Selfira, who had never been on an airship before, was hiding her fear of heights, until Keehar reveals it to the whole crew. Just as she starts to bear her soul she gets interrupted by a monster.

Selfira:
Lyria: Is everything OK, Selfira? Is something bothering you?
Selfira: I… I just have something in my eye. I'll be fine!
Keehar: Selfira, it's OK to say that you're afraid. This is your first time on an airship, isn't it?
Selfira: Grandad, what are you saying? Of course I'm not afraid!
Selfira: It's not like I'm thinking about ho high up we are, or what will happen if I fall overboard…
Vyrn: Heheheh. Selfira, are you afraid of heights?
Selfira: …All right, yes. I'm afraid of heights. There's something unnatural about being this high, floating in an airship…
Monster: CROARGH!
Selfira: Hey! How dare you interrupt me! I was having a real heartfelt moment!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 6: The Snake God's Song - Episode 2

Selfira's fear has been somewhat quelled by the fight with a monster. Vyrn remarks that her fearlessness reminds him of Keehar.

Lyria: Are you all right, Selfira? I know this is your first time aboard a real airship.
Selfira: Y-yes, I think I'm getting used to it. Fighting that monster helped.
Vyrn: You're more scared of heights than you are of monsters? You really are your grandad's granddaughter, aren't you!
Keehar: Bwahahaha! We might not be related by blood, but obviously something of my personality's rubbed off on you!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 6: The Snake God's Song - Episode 2: Scene 2

As the Grandcypher approaches Midgardsormr, the number of monsters steadily increases. Elta, showing his courage like never before, stands his ground against them.

Rackam: The closer we get to Midgardsormr, the more monsters there are!
Elta is standing on deck, shouting at the monsters that are getting in the way.
Elta: Out of the way! We need to get to Midgardsormr to put him back to sleep!
Elta: If you don't get out of our way, we'll have no choice but to fight you!
Vyrn: Well said, Elta! Let's push through these monsters and get to the main event!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 6: The Snake God's Song - Episode 3

The monsters are coming so thick and fast that they are pushing the Grandcypher off course. Hoping that it will have the same effect on the monsters that it does on Midgardsormr, Selfira and Elta start to play the song. It does indeed have the intended effect, and the monsters calm down.

Rackam: Ugh! There's too many of them, they're pushing us off course!
Selfira: If that's the case… Elta, the song!
Elta: What? But, we're not anywhere near Midgardsormr yet.
Selfira: I think the song should affect the monsters in the same way as it does Midgardsormr. It's worth a try at least!
Elta: You're right! Let's do it!
Elta & Selfira:
Rackam: The monsters! They're calming down! Elta, Selfira, keep going!
Vyrn: Now's our chance to punch through!

Song of Serpent Island - Chapter 6: The Snake God's Song - Episode 3: Scene 2

A monster aims for Selfira, who can't move as she's so busy concentrating on the song. At the last minute Keehar fells it with a well-aimed arrow. Keehar vows to never let anything bad happen to his beloved granddaughter.

Selfira:
Monster: GROARGH!
Lyria: Oh no! That monster's heading straight for Selfira!
Selfira: !

Keehar: Don't you dare put one claw on my little baby!
Vyrn: Wow, you got it in one shot! Not bad, gramps!
Selfira: Grandad, thank you!
Keehar: Don't mention it! It's a grandad's job to protect his grandchildren after all!

Elta & Selfira:
Elta and Selfira put on a flawless performance. None could believe that this was their first time.
Music the likes of which has not been heard since the days of the legendary sky minstrels permeate the air above the Phidi Isles.
Midgardsormr: …Groargh...
Midgardsormr: …Grr…
Midgardsormr: ……
Lyria: …Midgardsormr's power is waning, and I can feel it growing calmer.
Lyria: Sleep well, Midgardsormr. Let me take your anger…
Midgardsormr: ……
Midgardsormr:
Midgardsormr: ?
Elta:
Selfira:
Selfira: !
Selfira: Is it… sleeping?
Keehar: It is asleep! Selfira, Elta, well done! And my thanks to you, brave skyfarers!
Elta: …Phew! I was so nervous! I'm completely drained!
Rackam: Hey, can't you stand up? Ah, I guess that's fine. Just sit back and relax, we'll be back at the village in no time!
Keehar: When we get back we shall put on a huge feast in your honor! There'll be food, drink, dancing, all for you!
Lyria: Yay! I'm so hungry! Elta, you have to play your song again!
Elta: O-of course! Though, I know a lot of other songs that are more suitable for a party…
Guivre: Groargh!
Selfira: Wha! A Guivre? But, their master is asleep!
Lyria: It seems confused now that Midgardsormr is sleeping again. Oh no, it's coming right for us!
Rackam: This is bad! If it keeps flapping around like that, it's going to hit the ship!
Elta: Waaa! I'm going to fall!
The Guivre smashes into the side of the Grandcypher, and Elta is thrown from the deck.
Selfira: Elta!
Keehar: (Oh no! I… I can't reach her!)
Elta:
Elta: …Huh? I'm… I'm not falling.
Rackam: Didn't I tell you that I'd look after you?
Rackam noticed that Elta was going to fall, and in the nick of time grabs a hold of him before he went overboard.
Lyria: Phew, that's a relief! I thought you were done for.
Rackam: All right, now we can get back to the village! We need to tell the villagers Midgardsormr's not gonna trouble them no more!
Elta: Yes!

The villagers, ecstatic at the good news and thankful to (Captain) and the crew, throw a feast in their honor.
Several days later…
Elta: Erm, (Captain)… thank you so much for letting me come with you.
Vyrn: Don't worry about it! It doesn't look like you get many airships in these parts anyway.
Child: Do ya really have to go? Can't ya stay just a little longer?
Villager: Must you leave so soon? I feel we still haven't thanked you enough…
Vyrn: We're skyfarers, the skies are where we're most at home!
Keehar: Well, if you ever come back this way, know that our doors will always be open to you!
Lyria: Where is Selfira? I wanted to say goodbye…
Rackam: Haha, maybe she's just so sad about us leaving that she's off crying somehwere!
Selfira: …Who's crying?
Elta: Ah! Selfira! I'm so glad you came! Thank you for everything you've done for us!
Selfira: …Don't be so hasty saying goodbye…
Elta: Huh? What do you mean?
Selfira: I've decided, I'm coming with you. I need to see more of the world, experience more, if I want to improve as a performer.
Lyria: Of course! You said earlier that you wanted to travel!
Selfira: Yes. I'm still a newcomer to the world of traveling, so I'd appreciate if you help me learn more about it.
Lyria: Oh, I"d love to!
Keehar: Bwahaha! Ah, to be young again! Go, enjoy yourselves! Travel is food for the soul!
The old skyfarer's laughs echoes drift into the distance. The blue skies spread out invitingly for these new travelers.
