Action Points (AP) are an energy resource spent to play most non-raid battles and to host most raid battles.

Each battle quest in the game cost a set quantity of AP to start, with the majority requiring between 10 to 100 AP. These costs must be paid from the player's AP supply. In some cases, spent AP will be refunded, such as when retreating from or otherwise failing a battle quest that hasn't been cleared yet; otherwise, the AP is expended and must be refilled to allow continued gameplay.

AP is typically refilled in the following ways:

  • 1 AP automatically recovers every five minutes, up to a soft cap based on the player's Rank. Rank 1 players start with a soft cap of 10 AP, rising to a soft cap of 190 AP at the current maximum Rank 375. After reaching this soft cap, automatic AP recovery stops, but AP can be further added up to a hard cap of 999 AP through the use of recovery items.
  • By tapping the AP gauge on any page where it is visible, the player can see the time needed to fully recover to the soft cap, as well as use Full and Half Elixirs to immediately add AP. Such Elixir usage can be set to automatic when more AP would be consumed than is available, by enabling AP Auto-Restore in Miscellaneous Settings.
  • Elixirs and other AP recovery items can be used from the Supplies page, under the Consumables tab.
  • Upon player rank up, AP is increased by an amount equal to the player's soft cap. This will immediately exceed the soft cap if the player already has AP in reserve.

What costs AP?

Broadly speaking, raid quests cost AP and non-raid quests cost AP only when they include a battle. However, there are noticeable exceptions. Chapters with battles for the Main Quest and for Story Events have AP cost waived for the first clear. Class unlock quests and standard Fate Episodes cost AP regardless of battles being included, while special cases such as some steps of recruiting and uncapping Evokers and Eternals cost zero AP. AP costs are halved or waived for certain battles during Campaigns.

Some battles default to zero AP cost but are restricted in other ways, notably:

Certain game modes and battles do not use AP but instead require analogous resources. These include:

Gameplay

As a mobile game energy system, AP is used—among other purposes—to limit excessive playtime and item farming. In practice, newer players with low AP limits and few AP recovery items are advised to budget their AP in order to maximize access to time-limited event battles with high-value rewards, while veteran players typically stockpile free AP recovery items over the course of regular gameplay to the extent that AP supply is no longer an active concern except for specific activities that demand truly extreme AP consumption.
