Gran dreams of his youth, remembering the words his father left in a letter - "I will be waiting at Estalucia, Island of the Astrals." He awakens to find Lyria at his bedside, happy to see him well after the incident with Pommern and the Hydra. Katalina and Lyria explain to Gran the situation he now finds himself in, and that he must now make the bold action to journey with them.
As Proto Bahamut was summoned, Pommern commanded his hydra to attack Proto Bahamut to no avail. Bahamut then obliterated the hydra, forcing Pommern and his subordinates to retreat. The Proto Bahamut then resides inside Lyria's brooch. As Gran fell unconscious, Aaron and the villagers came to rescue Gran and co.
Flashback to 7 years prior to present event, Gran read a letter from his father, in which his father stated that he's waiting for Gran to reach his place in Estalucia, Island of the Astrals. Aaron came and told Gran that Estalucia is a mere fairy tale. Aaron's dad told Gran the otherwise. He encouraged Gran to become a skyfarer so Gran can see for himself, whether Estalucia really exists or not.
Back to the present, Lyria was mending on Gran's wound. Gran soon woke up, then Katalina informed him about their situation, how the empire has been researching on primal crystal power to control Primal Beast, and how Lyria has power similar to the Astrals. As Lyria has lent her power to resurrect Gran, both Lyria and Gran cannot be simply separated from each other, otherwise the power may fade, putting their condition on a thin ice.
As a result, Gran has to escape with Lyria and Katalina on the run from the Erste Empire. Gran decided to travel with them both, along with Vyrn, as he also wished to find his father at Estalucia. The following night, the villagers threw them a party to celebrate the Erste Empire's retreat from the island. Gran expressed his eagerness to travel in front of the party crowd, but Aaron was against the idea. The villagers convinced Aaron that Gran will be okay, and that Gran promised to come back some day. Lyria's stomach broke the ice and the party was resumed.
The next day, Gran departs with a small airship, with Katalina having a fairly limited capability of flying an airship, almost crashed before successfully departing from Zinkenstill.
- The move Proto Bahamut used to obliterate Pommern's Hydra was likely its signature call effect Catastrophe.
- In its game counterpart, Gran's father's letter was read at the very beginning of the game.
