SIEGFRIED - Opening

On a day several years ago, Siegfried saves King Josef and his comrades from a monster attack. Upon witnessing Siegfried's tremendous strength, the king invites him to become a knight, promising that it will help him grow stronger. Siegfried accepts the offer and accompanies King Josef back to Feendrache.

???: Groooar!
An ear-splitting roar echoes through the air, mingled with the sound of brutal fighting.
Siegfried: Huff... Huff...
Siegfried: I will... finish this!
Siegfried closes in on his target, determined not to let the opportunity slip away.
Siegfried: Please... Let me hold out just a little longer!
Once hailed as the savior of his kingdom, he resolves to protect the land yet again, unleashing an extraordinary power that eats away at his very being.
Siegfried: This is the end.
Siegfried: Haaah!
Urging his battered and broken body on, he clads himself in an uncanny amount of power, pouring his flesh and soul into the final blow.
???: Haaah!
Monster 1: Graaah...
Monster 2: Grr...
Monster 3: Groooar...
With one swift, fierce strike, the monsters are sliced cleanly and easily in half.
Those present to witness the spectacle are awed by the man's overwhelming power.
???: Wow...
???: Incredible... He took out all those monsters on his own...
???: Hah... He has quite a wild fighting style. It's almost like he's some sort of beast.
???: Indeed... Could he be any more barbaric?
???: Gasp!
Snapping back to his senses, the armored man hurries over to confirm the safety of his liege lord—King Josef.
???: Your Majesty! Are you injured?
???: Your Majesty! Your garments are covered in grime!
King Josef: There's no need for alarm. Gunther, Kriemhild, are you unharmed?
Gunther: Yes, Your Majesty. No injuries to speak of.
Kriemhild: Likewise.
An official-looking man at the king's side calls out to the bedraggled figure, his tone and expression filled with obvious distaste.
???: You there, savage. State your objective!
???: Objective? I was just disposing of an obstacle blocking my path.
???: Do you plan to stand in my way too? I'd be more than happy to take you on.
???: What! You're a madman!
King Josef: Control yourself, Hagen. The fact of the matter is, this man saved our lives.
King Josef: I won't tolerate any disrespect toward him.
Hagen: But Your Majesty! He's clearly suspicious—
King Josef: I believe I asked you to cease this insolence. Or did my words fall on deaf ears?
Hagen: Apologies, Your Majesty! Please forgive me!
King Josef: Now stand down.
Hagen: Yes, Your Majesty!
King Josef bows his head apologetically to the man who stares back with a blank expression.
King Josef: I apologize for my vassal's rudeness.
King Josef: Hagen was merely speaking out of consideration for me. I ask that you excuse his behavior.
???: ...
Silently, the man turns to leave.
King Josef: Please wait just one moment.
???: What? Do you still need something from me?
King Josef: Do you have any interest in becoming a knight?
???: No.
King Josef: Hah... I see. Then tell me—for what reason do you wield your blade?
???: Good question. I've never thought about it.
???: And yet, despite that fact, I was able to slaughter those monsters that you and your subordinates were struggling against.
Hagen: You... You rogue! Watch your tongue in the presence of His Majesty!
King Josef: Hahaha! Stand down, Hagen! This man is merely speaking the truth!
Gunther: I-I'm so ashamed...
Kriemhild: Hah... We really need to pull ourselves together!
King Josef: Allow me to make you a proposal. If you agree to serve under me, I can assure you that you'll become even stronger.
???: What do you mean?
King Josef: There's no question that you possess the strength of a mighty warrior.
King Josef: However... Do you truly believe you could win so handily against the forces of the royal capital?
???: I won't know until I've tried.
King Josef: Hahaha! I like the way you think! I'm scared you might actually be able to pull it off!
King Josef: But if you become a knight and study the art of war, you could learn tactics for defeating forces numbering far greater than your own.
King Josef: And that would further increase your odds of being able to take out myriads of enemies using your innate power.
???: Are you sure you want to recruit me? How would you benefit from teaching me things like that?
King Josef: Benefit? You need to broaden your perspective and stop focusing on insignificant details.
King Josef: I merely saw it in my mind's eye for a moment...
King Josef: A thrilling image of you defeating an army of thousands, using the tactics you learned as a knight.
King Josef grins impishly, making his true feelings clear.
???: Heh... Interesting.
???: All right then. I'll become a knight.
King Josef: Then it's decided. You'll return to the royal capital with me.
???: Guess I'll be imposing for a while.
King Josef: Gunther, Kriemhild. Look after him.
The Two: Yes, Your Majesty!
Gunther: I'm Gunther, captain of the Royal Knights of Feendrache—defenders of the capital. I look forward to fighting alongside you.
Kriemhild: And I'm Kriemhild. I serve as an attendant to His Majesty.
Kriemhild: If there's anything you still don't understand after speaking to Gunther, feel free to come to me.
Gunther: Hey... Quit tarnishing my reputation.
Kriemhild: Don't worry! Your reputation's already as low as it can get!
Gunther: Hahaha... I should've known you'd say something like that.
???: ...
Gunther and Kriemhild welcome the brusque newcomer with open arms.
Hagen: (Tch... I can't believe he'd invite a shady scoundrel like this into the royal capital...)
Hagen: (What in the skies is His Majesty thinking?)
And so the group makes its way back to the capital, each member holding their own complicated thoughts on the matter.
King Josef: Now that I think of it... I don't believe I've asked your name yet.
???: Mine?
King Josef: Yes. My name is Josef.
King Josef: I am known as King Josef, ruler of the royal capital of Feendrache.
???: King Josef, was it?
???: My name is...

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 1: Routine - Episode 1

One day, the members of Team Chickadee are hard at work on the training grounds of the royal capital, overseen by Lancelot and Vane. After paying a visit to King Josef's grave, Siegfried arrives to give them a lesson. While the other knights-in-training are having their turn, Lancelot tells Arthur and Mordred a story from the days of the Black Dragons.

Siegfried stands in a cemetery atop a hill overlooking the royal capital, lost in thought.
He sets a bouquet of wildflowers before a grave, having clearly done so countless times before.
Siegfried: Your Majesty... The capital remains at peace again today.
After offering a silent prayer, Siegfried looks up to see a group of knights sparring on the training grounds of the capital.
Arthur: Hup! Hyah! Haaah!
Mordred: Urgh... Tch... Crap!
Arthur: Heh! Gotcha!
Believing himself to have the upper hand, Arthur raises his sword high and swings at Mordred with all his might.
Mordred: Heh... You're wide open!
Arthur: Whoa!
The instant Arthur steps forward, Mordred uses the momentum to knock him to the ground.
Mordred: Hyah!
Mordred thrusts the wooden sword toward Arthur and holds it at his throat.
Arthur: I-I yield...
Lancelot: All right, stop there! The match is decided.
Mordred: Heh! I win!
Arthur: Aw, man! You got me!
Lancelot: You used your opponent's strength to perform a magnificent counterattack against them. Well done, Mordred.
Mordred: Yes, sir! Thank you very much!
Vane: Ohh! Was that the move I taught you before?
Mordred: Heh... It sure was! I had no idea it would work so well though!
Arthur: I'm so mad at myself!
Mordred! Fight me again!
Mordred: Sounds good to me! I'll beat you as many times as you want!
Just then, a wooden sword flies through the air and rolls between Arthur and Mordred.
Tornelio: I-I yield!
Cruz: Tornelio... That's what you get for looking away.
Tornelio: I-I'm sorry, Cruz!
Cruz: Not sure why you're apologizing.
As the members of Team Chickadee are hard at work training, they hear a familiar voice.
Henry: Oh, what's this? The chickadees are busy cheeping as usual, I see!
Mordred: Ugh, you again.
Henry: Hah! I'm a knight-in-training too, you know. I have as much right to be here as you do!
Arthur: Huh? What kinda training are you here for?
Henry: Isn't it obvious? He's coming today, so I'm going to impress him with my skill!
At that moment, the mood on the training grounds changes completely.
Siegfried: Sorry to keep you waiting.
Henry: (Whoooa! He's so cooool!)
Henry: (So this is the legendary captain of the Order of the Black Dragons—Siegfriiied!)
Lancelot: It's good to see you again, Siegfried!
Arthur: Oh, come on! Late again, Siegfried?
Mordred: Nah, pretty sure he's relatively early today.
Arthur: Huh? Are (Captain) and Percival not with you today?
Siegfried: That's right. They mentioned they were heading to Wales for a prior engagement.
Mordred: Aww... I was hoping we could train with the full powerhouse lineup. That's too bad.
Arthur and Mordred look disappointed, and Lancelot marches angrily over to them.
Lancelot: Hey, you two!
Lancelot: Quit being so rude to Siegfried!
Arthur & Mordred: S-sorry!
Siegfried: Lancelot, it's partially my fault for being late.
Siegfried: So don't be too hard on them.
Lancelot: B-but... They need to learn proper decorum if they're ever going to be full-fledged knights.
Siegfried: That's true.
Siegfried: Even though I'm no longer a member of the Order, I always take care to be courteous.
As Siegfried and Lancelot talk, Arthur and Mordred become increasingly sheepish.
Henry: What the! Wh-when did they get to be so buddy-buddy with Siegfried!
Vane: Actually... While everybody else was home for the long holiday, those two stayed behind in the capital.
Vane: They happened to run into Siegfried on the training grounds and had him train them in secret!
Henry: Is... Is that so...
Henry: (Ugh... Why is it always them!)
Tornelio: Those two are amazing! I could run into Siegfried every day, but I'd still never be like them.
Cruz: Hmm.
Tornelio: What's wrong, Cruz?
Cruz: Nothing.
Cruz: (His power really is incredible...)
Tornelio: It's hard to believe the legendary captain of the Black Dragons is right before our eyes.
The knights-in-training gaze at Siegfried with eyes full of admiration.
Lancelot stands before the young knights to explain the significance of their upcoming lesson.
Lancelot: Siegfried has joined us today to give you all some special training.
Lancelot: Be sure to make the most of this precious opportunity and learn as much as you can from him.
All Five: Yes, sir!
The knights-in-training are filled with a mixture of excitement and nervousness in response to Lancelot's words.
Siegfried: Then let's begin the lesson.
Henry: Th-thank you, sir!
Tornelio: L-let's go, Cruz!
Cruz: Right.
Lancelot: Arthur and Mordred, you two come here.
Arthur: Huh? I mean—yes, sir!
Mordred: Um... What's going on?
Arthur and Mordred stand beside Lancelot, watching from a distance as the others begin their practice session.
Lancelot: You two will be going last.
Arthur: Whaaat! No way!
Mordred: Yeah... I had a feeling...
Lancelot: The two of you received special training from Siegfried prior to this, correct?
Lancelot: It's only right to let the others go first.
Arthur: Oh! Okay, yeah! That makes sense!
Mordred: You sure changed your tune in a hurry!
Arthur: Well, I mean... Captain Lancelot's right!
Mordred: If you're okay with it, I guess I am too...
Mordred: Only a kid would throw a fit about having to go last.
Lancelot: Heh... Spoken like a true knight.
Vane: You never fail to impress, Lancey! That was a perfect lesson in knightly discipline!
Vane nods vigorously in support of Lancelot's guidance.
Mordred: By the way, have you ever trained with Siegfried before, Vice-Captain Vane?
Vane: Huh? Me?
Vane: Well... That's my little secret.
Arthur: If it's a secret, that must mean he gave you special training too!
Lancelot: A secret? What's all this about special training, Vane?
Vane: Huh? Oh, um... It's nothing!
Vane: Anyway, Siegfried sure has mellowed out compared to how he was in the past.
Lancelot: Hm? Well... I suppose you're right.
Lancelot: Back when he was captain of the Order of the Black Dragons, he didn't seem as comfortable interacting with others.
Mordred: That... makes sense.
Lancelot: What's wrong, Mordred? You're unusually quiet all of a sudden.
Mordred: Well, don't get me wrong, I can tell Siegfried's an amazing person...
Mordred: But honestly... He doesn't seem like the same "Siegfried the Dragonslayer" I've heard so much about.
Arthur: Yeah, I know what you mean! I was really surprised when he turned out to be such a nice person!
Mordred: Right? It's hard to imagine what he was like back when he was captain of the Black Dragons.
Upon seeing the pair struggling to understand Siegfried's greatness, Lancelot grins.
Lancelot: Do you want to know more about him?
Arthur: Huh? Oh! Yes, sir!
Mordred: I do too!
Lancelot: Very well... We have time to kill anyway.
Lancelot: While you two are waiting your turn, I'll tell you about the days when Siegfried was captain of the Black Dragons.
Vane: Ooh! I'd like to hear about that again too!
Lancelot: Heh... You're welcome to listen, Vane.
Lancelot: Now then... This is the story of the day Percival and I were sworn in as vice-captains of the Order of the Black Dragons...
Lancelot begins to speak about the past, a nostalgic look in his eyes.

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 1: Routine - Episode 2

On a day several years prior, Lancelot and Percival are sworn in as vice-captains of the Black Dragons. Learning that a large-scale rebellion has broken out in the region of Burgundy, Siegfried leads the Black Dragons to suppress the insurrection. When they arrive at their destination, Vane volunteers to be in charge of setting up camp.

A few years earlier...
In the throne room of the royal capital of Feendrache, a ceremony is being held.
King Josef: ...
Siegfried: ...
King Josef and Siegfried stroll calmly before the Black Dragon knights assembled in the hall.
After waiting for the king to be seated on his throne, Siegfried turns to the crowd and begins to speak.
Siegfried: Let us begin the initiation of the new vice-captains of the Order of the Black Dragons.
Siegfried: Lancelot, Percival. Come forward.
Lancelot & Percival: Yes, sir.
The other members of the Order watch enviously as two knights step forward to stand before the king.
Lancelot's Unit: (Sir Lancelot... The time has finally come.)
Percival's Unit: (Sir Percival... We've been waiting for this day for so long.)
Vane: (Whoooa! Lancey looks so cool!)
Vane: (Oh, that red-haired guy next to him must be Percival. He must be pretty amazing to become a vice-captain just like Lancey!)
Siegfried: His Majesty will now conduct the ceremony of blades for each knight.
Lancelot & Percival: Yes, sir.
King Josef lifts a pair of treasured swords from the altar before him and presents them to Lancelot and Percival.
King Josef: Sir Lancelot, I appoint you as vice-captain of the Order of the Black Dragons.
King Josef: Do you swear to devote yourself fully to the kingdom of Feendrache, now and forevermore?
Lancelot: I swear.
King Josef: Sir Percival, I appoint you as vice-captain of the Order of the Black Dragons.
King Josef: Do you swear to devote yourself fully to the kingdom of Feendrache, now and forevermore?
Percival: I swear.
King Josef: Now that the oaths have been made...
King Josef: I hereby declare Lancelot and Percival vice-captains of the Order of the Black Dragons.
Siegfried: Let us celebrate the induction of our two new vice-captains!
At Siegfried's proclamation, the knights raise their voices in jubilation.
Lancelot's Unit: Vice-Captain Lancelot... He looks so gallant!
Percival's Unit: Vice-Captain Percival... He looks so godly!
Vane: Yeees! I'm going to burn Lancey's proud moment into my eyes forever!
The Black Dragons celebrate the initiation of Lancelot and Percival as their vice-captains.
Suddenly, a flustered messenger bursts into the throne room, interrupting the joyous mood.
Messenger: Pardon the intrusion, but I come bearing a message! A large-scale rebellion has broken out in the region of Burgundy!
As a sense of alarm spreads throughout the throne room, King Josef calmly rises to his feet.
King Josef: I know you must be exhausted, but please inform Isabella that the celebrations planned for after the ceremony will be suspended.
Messenger: Yes, Your Majesty!
King Josef: Siegfried, lead the Order of the Black Dragons to suppress the rebel army at once.
Siegfried: As you wish.
Having received his orders from King Josef, Siegfried in turn issues commands to the newly instated vice-captains.
Siegfried: Lancelot, Percival. Prepare to depart immediately.
Lancelot & Percival: Yes, sir!
Siegfried turns to the crowd and raises his sword high, addressing all the knights present.
Siegfried: For the righteous glory of Feendrache!
Lancelot & Percival: For the righteous glory of Feendrache!
Black Dragons: For the righteous glory of Feendrache!
Vane: For the righteous glory of Feendrache!
Thus Lancelot and Percival's first assignment as vice-captains ends up being far more serious than anyone could have foreseen.
The Order of the Black Dragons marches toward the region of Burgundy.
Siegfried, Lancelot, and Percival stand at the forefront, leading the advance.
Lancelot: Siegfried, you're looking rather pale. Are you feeling all right?
Siegfried: Yes, I'm fine.
Percival: Please confide in us if you have any concerns. That's our duty as your vice-captains.
Siegfried: Understood. I'll be counting on you.
Siegfried: I'm sorry you two got caught up in something like this right after becoming vice-captains. Lady Luck's not on your side.
Percival: Hah... You said it.
Percival: Is this rebellion in Burgundy being spearheaded by remnants of the faction in support of the late king?
Siegfried: Most likely. I thought they'd all been captured during the previous war, but it seems the issue runs deeper than we thought.
Lancelot: Everything appeared to be resolved, but I suppose it's not so easy to see into the hearts of men...
Siegfried: From our enemy's point of view, our administration of justice comes across as no more than an act of aggression.
Percival: I thought we'd reached an understanding, but now that it comes down to it...
Lancelot: Agreed... We can't see eye to eye.
Siegfried: Don't waver in your conviction, Percival, Lancelot. It'll show in your swordsmanship.
Lancelot: Understood.
Percival: I'll bear that in mind.
Siegfried: Now then, this might be a good place to set up camp...
On Siegfried's orders, the Black Dragons prepare to make camp.
Siegfried: We'll set up camp immediately and begin mapping out our battle strategy.
Just then, one of the other knights comes running up to Lancelot.
Vane: Heeey, Lancey! I made you lunch, but I forgot to give it to you!
Lancelot: (C-come on, Vane! I told you to stop calling me Lancey while we're on duty!)
Vane: (Oh yeah! Sorry, Lancey—er, I mean... Sir Vice-Captain Lancelot!)
Lancelot: (Close, but not quite! Try to be more careful next time, okay, Vane?)
Vane: (You got it! Eat this and break a leg on your first mission as a vice-captain!)
Lancelot: (Right. Thanks for going to so much trouble just to bring me my lunch.)
Percival: Hey... What are you whispering about, Lancelot?
Percival: (Who is that man? He reminds me of a noisy pup.)
Lancelot: Oh, Percival! Don't mind him! He's just a childhood friend of mine...
Siegfried: Lancelot, Percival. I'll let you take care of the camp.
Lancelot: Y-yes, sir! We'll get started right away!
Percival: Lancelot, I think it's your unit's turn to construct the tents.
Upon hearing those words, Vane chimes in timidly.
Vane: Oh? Are we setting up camp now?
Siegfried: Yes, that's right.
Vane: Um... I can handle that! I'm really good at it!
Lancelot: H-hey, Vane! Are you sure about this?
Vane: Yeah... I've been going on tons of expeditions recently, so I have a lot of experience making camp.
Vane: Pretty sure I'm the best in the squadron now, so I've got this! I mean... I can handle this, sir!
Lancelot: O-oh, is that so? In that case, I'll take your word for it...
(Don't overwork yourself...)
After listening to Lancelot and Vane's conversation, Siegfried finally speaks up.
Siegfried: Then can we leave the camp to you, Vane?
Vane: Y-yes, sir! Right away, Captain! You can count on me!
Siegfried: I'll go check on the other units.
As soon as Siegfried has made his departure, Lancelot resumes speaking normally to Vane.
Lancelot: Need any help, Vane?
Vane: Nope, I'm good! Lancey... Er, I mean...
Vane: Vice-Captain Lancelot, I'm sure you have plenty of other things you need to do.
Lancelot: That's true... But are you sure you'll be all right?
Vane: I'll be just fine! Don't worry about me!
Lancelot: Thanks, Vane. Then I'll let you handle the rest.
Vane: Sure thing! Leave it to me! Good luck, Vice-Captain!
Lancelot: Thanks.
After observing the pair's discussion, Percival addresses Lancelot with a stern look on his face.
Percival: Hey, Lancelot. You're a vice-captain too now, so stay sharp.
Percival: Don't forget that the other knights will be paying attention to your every move, even moreso than before.
Lancelot: I know.
Percival: Now then, I'm going to check in with my own unit.
Lancelot: All right, we'll reconvene later.
Percival: Right.
Once Percival has taken his leave, Vane speaks nervously to Lancelot.
Vane: Whew... That red-haired guy's outright terrifying.
Lancelot: I know what you mean. But even though he can be hard on others, he's hardest on himself.
Lancelot: And besides, he comes from the House of Wales. He has all the makings of a perfect knight.
Lancelot: I doubt anyone in the capital would disagree with him being selected as vice-captain.
Sensing Lancelot's hidden reservations, Vane responds through pursed lips.
Vane: Hmm... Vice-Captain Percival, huh...
Lancelot: Hm? What's wrong?
Vane: Well... Since he was selected to be vice-captain and all, I guess he must be pretty great...
Vane: But I think I prefer Vice-Captain Lancelot myself!
Lancelot: Vane...
Vane: You're just as great as he is, Lancelot—everybody knows it!
Vane: I've always known you have what it takes to be captain someday!
Lancelot: Thanks, Vane.
Lancelot: Heh... But captain might be going a little too far...
As Vane's words echo in his mind, Lancelot responds with a bright grin, like his worries have melted away.
Lancelot: Hearing that from you fills me with confidence.
Vane: Good... That's how it should be.
Lancelot: I guess I should be going as well.
Vane: Okay! Same here—I'll have the camp set up in a jiff!
And so Vane begins skillfully constructing the camp facilities.

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 1: Routine - Episode 3

Vane heads a scouting party at Lancelot's recommendation and returns with valuable information. The knights use that intel to form a detailed strategy, but in the heat of battle Lancelot and Percival miss their timing to retreat and find themselves in a desperate situation. However, they manage to escape the crisis thanks to Siegfried's awe-inspiring power.

Vane finishes setting up camp in a flash, and Siegfried, Lancelot, and Percival gather around him.
Siegfried: Oho... Masterful work.
Vane: Y-you really think so? It's an honor to hear such praise from you, Captain Siegfried!
Lancelot: (Nice job, Vane!)
Vane: (Heh... I've gotta make myself useful where I can!)
Percival: Oho...
Percival: (He looks like a common boor, but his work shows a surprising attention to detail.)
Vane: (Ohh, he's looking... Heh, what do you think of that? Lay it on me!)
Percival: Captain Siegfried, should we begin the strategy meeting soon?
Vane: (Aww... Seriously? He's not gonna say anything?)
Siegfried: Yes... But before that, could I ask you to select a scout from out of your units?
Siegfried: I tried asking a number of potential candidates, but none of them are very knowledgeable about this area.
Per his request, Lancelot squares his jaw and offers a proposal to Siegfried.
Lancelot: Er... Siegfried.
Siegfried: Hm?
Lancelot: I'd like to nominate Vane as a scout.
Vane: Huh? M-me?
Lancelot: Vane has experience with expeditions in this area, so I imagine that gives him familiarity with the terrain.
Siegfried: Is that true, Vane?
Vane: Y-yes, sir! It's just as he says!
Siegfried: I see... What do you think, Percival?
Percival: If that's Lancelot's recommendation, then I have no objections.
Percival: However, I think we should ask the man himself whether or not he believes he can accomplish the task.
Siegfried: That's true... What do you say, Vane?
Vane: Y-yes, sir!
Vane: I, Vane, hereby swear to accomplish my mission!
Percival: I'll leave the final decision to you, Captain Siegfried.
Siegfried: Hm... Understood.
Siegfried: Then Vane, could I ask you to form a scouting party at once?
Vane: Y-yes, sir! Right away!
Siegfried: While Vane and his squad are out on reconnaissance, we'll commence our strategy meeting.
Lancelot & Percival: Yes, sir!
As Siegfried and Percival head inside the encampment, Vane remains standing outside in a daze.
Vane: Me? A scout?
Lancelot: You can do this, Vane.
Vane: Lancey! Th-thanks!
Lancelot: There's no reason to thank me.
Vane: Huh?
Lancelot: Just so you know... I didn't suggest you as a scout because we're old friends.
Lancelot: I recommended you because I sincerely believe you can do it. So have confidence in yourself.
Vane: Lancelot...
Lancelot: Good luck out there!
Vane: Right! You can count on me!
Thus Vane sets out on a reconnaissance mission while Siegfried and the others begin planning out their battle strategy.
A short time later, Lancelot and Percival are involved in a deep discussion.
Lancelot: The enemy forces don't seem to be making any major movements at this time.
Lancelot: Once the scouting party returns, shouldn't we strike first and seize the initiative?
Percival: We'll need to take the offensive in order to keep things moving how we want.
Percival: But with the defense holding the territorial advantage, we won't be able to turn the tides strongly in our favor.
Lancelot: That's true... I imagine our enemy will fortify their defenses before we arrive.
Percival: In other words, we'll need a plan to break through their frontlines and crush their defense.
After listening quietly to his vice-captains' debate, Siegfried offers his opinion.
Siegfried: A thorough strategy is obviously essential, but there will always be surprises.
Siegfried: It's important to avoid being preoccupied with tactics so you can make proper decisions on the battlefield.
Lancelot: That's... true.
Siegfried: But there's nothing wrong with your tactics themselves.
Siegfried: Would you let me be the one to break through their frontlines?
Percival: You want to handle it personally?
At that moment, they hear footsteps approach outside the tent.
Vane: E-excuse me! Could I ask for a moment of your time?
Siegfried: You may enter.
Vane: Y-yes, sir!
Lancelot: (Vane! I'm glad you made it back safely!)
Siegfried: Let's hear your report.
Vane nods and pulls a sketch out of his pocket.
Vane: Sir! The location and number of the enemy forces are as indicated here.
Vane: We also took the opportunity to search for terrain that we might be able to use to our advantage!
Siegfried: Oho... Nicely done in such a short span of time.
Siegfried: Now that we know where they stand, we'll be able to devise an even more detailed strategy.
Vane: Thank you for your praise! It's an honor!
Lancelot: (Way to go, Vane!)
Vane: (I did it, Lancey!)
Vane: Um... But it wasn't just me. The rest of the scouting party worked really hard too!
Siegfried: Noted. I'll hear more about their endeavors at a later time.
Percival: Hmm...
(Scouting is an important duty normally handled by one of the most distinguished members of a unit...)
Percival: (This man looks like an utter fool at first glance, but it seems he's quite proficient at intelligence gathering.)
Vane: (Hmm... That red-haired guy looks like he might actually say something this time...)
Siegfried: Now then, let's use this new information to brush up your tactics.
Lancelot: Yes, sir!
All right, Percival, let's polish our strategy to be even more precise.
Percival: Hah. I wouldn't have it any other way, Lancelot.
Vane: (Heh... I feel like I'll just be getting in the way if I stick around.)
Vane: Then... I'll go ahead and take my leave!
Siegfried: Right. Thanks for your assistance, Vane.
Percival: ...
Lancelot: (Nice work, Vane.)
Vane: (Hang in there, Lancey.)
As Vane bows and makes his way to leave, he glances over his shoulder at Siegfried and the others.
Vane: (Someday... I want to stand there too.)
Filled with newfound resolve, Vane returns to his station.
Meanwhile Siegfried and the others use the information he gathered to rethink their plan.
Once their strategy has been ironed out, the knights make for enemy lines immediately and assume their positions on the battlefield.
After all the preparations are in order, Siegfried stands before the knights of the Order to issue some words of inspiration.
Siegfried: The top priority of this mission is to capture the mastermind behind the revolt.
Siegfried: Bear in mind that those who engage in less than chivalrous behavior while carrying out missions will be severely punished.
Siegfried: No matter when or where, we must always battle with the pride of dragons in our hearts!
Siegfried: Together we fight! For the righteous glory of Feendrache!
Lancelot & Percival: For the righteous glory of Feendrache!
Black Dragons: For the righteous glory of Feendrache!
The next moment, Siegfried speeds forward, aiming directly for enemy lines.
Spotting his movements, one of the enemy troops calls out to inform his comrades.
Rebel 1: It... It's Siegfried!
Siegfried: Forgive me, but I'll be passing through here whether you like it or not!
Siegfried: Haaah!
Having reached the enemy camp in an instant, Siegfried leaps over the frontlines, swinging his blade downward.
The sword collides powerfully with the earth below it, sending fissures through the ground.
Rebel 1: Whoa!
Rebel 2: Gyah!
Rebel 3: Urgh!
The rebels are swallowed up one after another as the earth suddenly opens beneath them.
Siegfried: Lancelot Unit! Percival Unit! Stay with me!
Lancelot & Percival: Yes, sir!
Once Siegfried has thrown the enemy into disarray, Lancelot and Percival lead their units in the charge.
Lancelot: Siegfried really is incredible.
Percival: Indeed... I wouldn't want to end up on his bad side.
Lancelot: Hahaha! Truer words were never spoken!
Lancelot laughs and turns to look at Percival, a mischievous smile on his face.
Lancelot: Hey, Percival... What do you say we compete to see who can distinguish himself more in his first battle as a vice-captain?
Percival: Heh... Sounds good to me. I was just thinking the same thing.
Lancelot: All right!
Percival: Let's go!
Lancelot & Percival: Haaah!
As the Black Dragon knights advance with Siegfried in the lead, they are awed by the overwhelming power of their captain and vice-captains.
Black Dragon 1: Whoa... With the captain and vice-captains here, we have this battle in the bag.
Black Dragon 2: Pretty sure there's no reason for us to even be here.
Vane: Hey, you two! Saying things like that is a huge waste!
Black Dragon 2: A huge waste? What do you mean?
Vane: You've been given the chance to witness some amazing warriors in battle. Don't you want to move forward and see them up close?
Black Dragon 1: Huh? Are you serious?
Black Dragon 2: There's no way we can fight on the same level as those prodigies.
Vane: Yeah, that's true!
Black Dragon 1: Wait, what? Are you a complete idiot?
Vane: Well, yeah, I am! I'm an idiot who refuses to look back!
Vane: All I can do right now is stare at their backs...
Vane: But someday, I'll catch up to them! I'll be right there fighting alongside them, just you wait and see!
Black Dragon 1: Oh yeah? Well, good luck with that!
Black Dragon 2: ...
Black Dragon 1: Hey, what are you so quiet for all of a sudden?
Black Dragon 2: Well... I was just thinking maybe I ought to give it my best too...
Black Dragon 1: Huh? You gotta be kidding me. I had no idea you were so naive.
Black Dragon 2: What's that supposed to mean! You're supposed to say something like, "I gotta give my best too!"
Vane: Hey, you two! Don't just stand there, or you'll be an easy target!
Black Dragon 2: Hey... Wait...
Vane: To battle!
Black Dragon 2: W-wait for me, Vane! I'm... I'm coming too!
Vane: Hahaha! Yeah! That's the spirit!
And so the battle continues to change and progress from moment to moment.
Originally the plan had entailed Siegfried breaking through the frontlines, with Lancelot and Percival leading their forces to encircle the rear.
But amidst the confusion of battle, the two vice-captains have been separated from their captain and surrounded by the enemy instead.
Before they know it, Lancelot and Percival find themselves isolated from the other units.
Lancelot: Ugh... I never imagined they'd have so many reserves hidden in the rear.
Percival: Tch... They lured us out by making us think we had the advantage in battle.
Lancelot: Normally we'd have easily realized what they were up to.
Percival: I'm at fault for letting my emotions get away from me.
Lancelot: In that case, I'm just as guilty for failing to stop you.
Perhaps due to their newfound sense of responsibility as vice-captains, they had misjudged their timing to retreat.
Lancelot: It's unlikely we'll be able to break their siege with this poor visibility.
At some point the area had erupted in flames, causing their field of vision to be worsened by the smoke filling the area.
The battle rages around them, making it difficult for them to join with the other units.
Percival: Ngh... Lancelot! I'll carve a path through the enemy forces so you can escape!
Lancelot: Come now, Percival. There you go again, trying to steal the spotlight.
Percival: What do you mean by that!
Lancelot: It was just a joke! Don't get mad!
Percival: You fool! This is no time for jokes!
Lancelot: If it was just us, we might be able to find a way to escape...
Percival: But there's no doubt that our comrades left behind would be annihilated...
Lancelot: And we can't have that.
Percival: Of course not.
Percival: That's why I'm telling you to use that speed of yours to escape and bring reinforcements while I hold back the enemy forces!
Lancelot: If we were only interested in maximizing the number of survivors, your judgment would be correct... But I want to find another way.
Percival: Hurry! There's no time!
Just then, they hear a desperate voice calling out nearby.
Vane: Aaargh! Stay away!
Vane: There's no way I'm gonna bite the dust in a place like thiiis!
Lancelot: Hm? That's... Vane!
Percival: We need to back him up!
Lancelot and Percival are able to rescue Vane and the other knights from the surrounding insurgents.
Lancelot: Vane! I'm so glad you're all right!
Vane: Th-thanks for that... I-I thought I was a goner there for a sec!
Black Dragon 2: Captain Lancelot! Captain Percival! Thank you so much!
Percival: Hey! Why do you have that?
Percival stares at the object gripped in Vane's hands.
Vane: Oh, well... When I saw the enemy trying to steal our company flag, I defended it with everything I had...
Lancelot: ...!
Vane! You did it!
Vane: Huh? Did what?
Confused, Vane lifts the flag into the air without thinking.
Percival: You fool! Don't just carelessly raise the flag like that!
Percival: If you hold it up before we're prepared, we'll be crushed by the enemy!
Vane: Oh, sorry about that...
Percival: (I can't tell if this guy is a genius or a fool...)
Lancelot: All right! Percival and I will hold back the enemy!
Percival: Right! Meanwhile you lot find a location to hoist that flag and assemble our allies!
Vane: Y-yes, sir!
Lancelot: Form a battalion with the comrades you gather and break through this siege!
Black Dragons: Understood!
Lancelot: Now then, Percival. Are you ready?
Percival: Of course! Let's go, Lancelot!
While Lancelot and Percival hold off the nearby enemies, Vane and the others continue to wave the flag desperately.
As they do so, enemies and allies alike begin to make their way toward the flag.
But the might of the enemy is greater than that of their comrades, and they find themselves surrounded once again.
Lancelot: Urgh... This is bad, Percival!
Percival: Lancelot! I can't hold them off any longer!
Vane: Nnngh!
The Black Dragons are overwhelmed by enemy forces. But just as all hope seems lost, they spot a familiar figure.
Siegfried: Haaah!
After blowing the other rebels out of his way, Siegfried hurries over to them.
Siegfried: I made it in time...
All Three: Captain Siegfried!
Lancelot: Why are you here?
Siegfried: Well, I saw you all waving that flag like your lives depended on it...
As the captain stands before his comrades, his battered and bruised figure tells the story of his heroic battles thus far.
Lancelot: So the flag really did become a guide on the battlefield! It's all thanks to Vane!
Siegfried: Is that so... That company flag is the soul of the Order of the Black Dragons. Thank you, Vane.
Vane: No need to thank me! I just happened to have it with me! If I hadn't had my comrades by my side, it would've been crushed!
Percival: Ugh... I knew it was a reckless gamble...
Percival: If you hadn't come running, we would have been in serious trouble, Captain.
Siegfried: Well, I'm here now, so there's no need to worry.
Siegfried: Haaah!
As Siegfried continues to thwart the enemy's attacks, he calmly turns to speak to Lancelot and the others.
Siegfried: Also... I forgot to tell you the most important thing.
Siegfried: The man who emerges victorious is the man who continues struggling until the bitter end.
Lancelot: The man who emerges victorious...
Percival: Is the man who continues struggling...
Vane: Until the bitter end.
Siegfried: Right... And I'll prove that to you right now.
Siegfried: We're pressing forward! Follow me!
Siegfried: Hyaaah!
All Three: Hyaaah!
Lancelot, Percival, and Vane join forces to make their advance, with Siegfried leading the charge.
Together they succeed in escaping from a very grim situation along with a large number of their comrades.
After that, the Black Dragons are able to regroup and suppress the rebel army, thanks greatly to Siegfried's achievements in battle.
His tremendous strength on the battlefield leaves a deep, lasting impression on the hearts of Lancelot, Percival, and Vane.

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 1: Routine - Episode 4

After hearing Lancelot's story, Arthur and Mordred are all the more dazzled by Siegfried, but Lancelot warns them not to imitate his way of trying to solve everything on his own. As the other knights' lesson starts to wind down, the pair dash over to Siegfried and beg him to train them.

Arthur and Mordred's eyes shine as they stand on the training grounds listening to Lancelot talk about old times.
Arthur: Wow! Siegfried really is amazing!
Mordred: He always seems so calm, but he's crazy strong when he gets serious!
Vane: We would've been in real trouble back then if Siegfried hadn't shown up...
Lancelot: Heheh... Well? Now do you see what makes Siegfried so incredible?
Lancelot appears satisfied, having successfully conveyed the extent of Siegfried's splendor.
Vane: You know, that story reminded me that Siegfried has a habit of resolving things by himself.
Lancelot: He certainly does... I wish he'd learn to rely more on the people around him.
Arthur: But that makes him even cooler!
Mordred: Believing in your own strength and settling things yourself is the epitome of manliness!
Lancelot: I'm obviously glad you two think so highly of Siegfried...
Lancelot: But if you ever encounter any problems, don't try to solve them on your own, all right?
Vane: Yeah! You still have a long way to go!
Arthur: Yes, sir! You've got that right!
Mordred: We're well aware that we still lack experience.
Meanwhile Siegfried's training session with the other knights seems to be winding down.
Upon seeing this, Arthur and Mordred sprint over to Siegfried.
Arthur: Siegfried! Please train me next!
Mordred: Hey, Arthur! No fair stealing a march on me!
Siegfried: Heh... In that case, I'll take you both on at once.
Arthur: Huh? Are you sure?
Siegfried: I don't mind.
Mordred: Heh! Don't underestimate us, or you'll end up getting hurt!
Siegfried: Right. Let's have a serious fight.
Arthur: All right! You ready, Mordred?
Mordred: You bet, Arthur! Ready when you are!
Arthur: Okay then...
Arthur & Mordred: Let's do this!

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 1: Routine - Episode 4: Scene 2

As Arthur and Mordred stew over their defeat by Siegfried, the knights learn that a disaster is unfolding in Burgundy. Word also reaches Wales, where Percival and (Captain)'s crew are meeting with Aglovale. Noticing the crew's worry over their friends in Feendrache, Aglovale orders Percival to head to Burgundy for some reconnaissance.

Arthur: Dang it! He's too strong!
Mordred: We were totally outmatched.
Arthur and Mordred had been completely unable to compete with Siegfried.
The pair lie sprawled on the ground looking deeply chagrined.
Siegfried: Heh... Don't be so depressed. You two are improving steadily.
Arthur: What makes you say that?
Siegfried: Well... There's more breadth to your attacks now.
Mordred: Maybe... But it was like you weren't even trying.
Siegfried: If I unleashed my true power, you two would—
Siegfried: Actually... Never mind.
Arthur: Huh? We'd what?
Mordred: Hey, Arthur. Just let it go.
Just then, a member of the White Dragons comes running up to them.
White Dragon: Captain Lancelot!
Lancelot: What's wrong? Why do you look so panicked?
White Dragon: A disaster is unfolding in the region of Burgundy! Please return to His Majesty's side at once!
Lancelot: ...!
Understood! We'll head there right away!
Aglovale: According to information received from merchants in the area moments ago, monsters are running rampant in Burgundy.
Percival: What! Why are there monsters there?
Aglovale: Your guess is as good as mine. I'm afraid that's the extent of my knowledge on the matter.
While visiting Wales, Percival and (Captain)'s crew receive word of the events taking place in Burgundy.
Vyrn: Huh... What's that Burgundy place anyway?
Aglovale: Burgundy is an unstable region that shares its borders with a number of other nations.
Percival: A large-scale rebellion took place there back when I was in Feendrache.
Lyria: That sounds bad... I'm worried about everyone in the capital.
Percival: Yes... So am I.
Upon seeing Percival's troubled expression, Aglovale offers up a suggestion.
Aglovale: Hmm... Percival, head to Burgundy and scout the area.
Percival: Brother!
Aglovale: Burgundy is an important point of trade, so this will have an effect on the merchants traveling to and from Wales.
Percival: But what about the mission you requested?
Aglovale: You let me worry about that.
Aglovale: I've determined that the issue in Burgundy will have a greater impact on our national interest.
Percival: Understood!
Vyrn: Sheesh, talk about a roundabout way of doin' things. He hides his feelings just like his brother.
Lyria: Hehe. You can definitely tell they're related.
Percival: My vassals, you're free to relax here in Wales if you'd like. What would you prefer to do?
Vyrn: We're worried about Feendrache too, so we'll go with you.
Lyria: Yeah! We'll come along!
  1. Count us in for the ride!

Choose: Count us in for the ride!
Percival: Heh... You lot are softhearted through and through.
Percival: Then as soon as you're prepared, we'll depart for Burgundy!
And so Percival sets out for Burgundy joined by (Captain) and the crew.
Once the crew has departed, Aglovale calls one of his guards over and whispers something into his ear.
Aglovale: Gather those with skill and investigate the leyline.
Guard: Yes, my lord!
As he watches the guard scamper off, Aglovale loses himself in deep thought.

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 2: Disaster - Episode 1

Concerned about the orphanage where they grew up near Burgundy, Arthur and Mordred disobey orders and head out on their own. They are attacked by monsters en route, but Siegfried saves them on his way to investigate the incident in Burgundy alone. The pair beg to come along, so Siegfried decides to test their strength by having them battle a group of monsters.

Meanwhile in the royal capital, King Carl has issued a direct order to Lancelot to address the disturbance in Burgundy.
Captain Lancelot and Vice-Captain Vane discuss their strategy for the upcoming battle.
Lancelot: While I lead the White Dragons to Burgundy, I'll have you handle the defense of the capital.
Vane: You got it! Leave it to me!
As Lancelot and Vane discuss their strategy, Siegfried appears in their midst.
Siegfried: Lancelot, Vane. Could I have a moment?
Lancelot: Certainly!
Siegfried: I'd like to infiltrate Burgundy alone to survey the situation. Would that be all right?
Lancelot: Of course it would! In fact, that would be a great help! Right, Vane?
Vane: You said it! Knowing Siegfried, he'll settle everything before the White Dragons even get there!
Siegfried: Heh... Much obliged. I hope I'll be able to live up to your expectations.
Siegfried turns to see the knights-in-training who had been given orders to remain on standby in the capital.
Tornelio: I wonder what the disaster is? Sounds scary...
Cruz: Yeah...
Henry: Well, we'll be on standby in the capital, so I'm sure we'll be fine.
Arthur and Mordred stand at a distance from the other knights-in-training, deep in what appears to be a serious discussion.
Arthur: Burgundy... That's close to the orphanage, isn't it?
Mordred: Yeah... I hope everyone's safe.
Arthur: I wonder if the sister and kids are okay...
Mordred: I'm sure they'll be fine as soon as the White Dragons get there. But still...
Siegfried: ...
A little ways outside the capital, a pair of knights run at full speed.
Arthur: Huff... Huff...
Mordred: Huff... Huff...
Arthur: Phew! I'm worn out from all that running!
Mordred: I think we'll be okay here.
Arthur and Mordred have disobeyed their orders to remain on standby and snuck out of the royal capital unawares.
Arthur: We're definitely gonna get chewed out...
Mordred: Yeah, no doubt about it.
Arthur: Sigh... I hate getting yelled at.
Mordred: Quit getting all depressed over a hypothetical lecture!
Mordred: If you can't handle being griped at, you're free to head back now while I go alone!
Arthur: No...
Mordred: Then what's it going to be?
Arthur: I hate getting yelled at, but I'd hate it even more if something happened to anybody at the orphanage!
Mordred: Yeah, I agree. So stop hesitating.
Arthur: Yeah... You're right.
Mordred: Come on, we need to hurry.
Arthur: Right!
After pulling themselves together, Arthur and Mordred continue on their way to the orphanage where they were raised.
But suddenly a monster appears, blocking their path.
Monster: Grrr...
Mordred: Out of the way!
Arthur: Sorry, we're in a hurry here!
Monster: Grargh...
The pair take down the monster with a magnificent joint strike.
Arthur: ...
Mordred: Hey, what are you doing, Arthur?
Arthur: Well, I was just wondering if we spooked it by wandering into its turf...
Mordred: Sigh... There you go again...
Arthur: But...
Mordred: No buts—
Monster: Groooar!
Mordred: Oh no...
Arthur: Mordred!
While Arthur and Mordred are in the midst of a silly argument, another monster attacks from behind.
Monster: Grah...
Siegfried: It's important to know that these monsters move in packs.
Arthur & Mordred: Siegfried!
Siegfried: What happened to those moves during training earlier? Were those just flukes?
Arthur: Well, you see... All we did was let our guard down a little...
Siegfried: Do you think monsters will wait around for you to pull yourselves together?
Siegfried: This isn't training. There'll be no time for regrets after you've lost your lives.
Mordred: Um...
Siegfried: What is it?
Mordred: Y-you're not going to yell at us for leaving the capital against orders?
Siegfried stares at their faces for a moment before answering with a sigh.
Siegfried: You'll still go even if I try to stop you, won't you?
Arthur: Yes, sir!
Mordred: You idiot! Don't tell him!
Arthur: Oh, right!
Mordred turns to face Siegfried, his expression serious.
Mordred: The truth is, the orphanage where we grew up is close to Burgundy.
Arthur: We were so worried that we couldn't stand it, so we decided to head there on our own.
Siegfried: An orphanage, huh.
Arthur and Mordred exchange glances before bowing their heads before Siegfried once again.
Arthur: Siegfried! Will you take us with you?
Mordred: Please! Don't worry, we won't get in your way!
Having heard their desperate pleas, Siegfried responds with a no-nonsense expression on his face.
Siegfried: I guess it would be better for me to accompany you to the orphanage rather than sending you on your own.
Arthur: Siegfried!
Mordred: Thank you!
Siegfried: But I can't have you losing to monsters like that last one.
Arthur & Mordred: Okay...
Siegfried: Also, there's something I forgot to tell you.
Siegfried: After you defeat one of those monsters from earlier, you need to leave the area immediately.
Monster: Grrr...
Siegfried: Otherwise its friends will smell blood and gather like so...
Arthur & Mordred: ...!
Siegfried: Just the reaction I was hoping for.
Siegfried: Now then... Let's see if you have what it takes to join me on my way.
Siegfried: I'll let you two prove yourselves by defeating those things on your own.
Arthur & Mordred: Yes, sir!
Siegfried: Heh... If you can't handle these guys, I'll have you return to the capital like good little boys.
Mordred: Come on, Arthur! We can't lose, no matter what!
Arthur: Right! Let's win this, Mordred!

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 2: Disaster - Episode 1: Scene 2

Arthur and Mordred manage to defeat the monsters, and Siegfried awards them with a barely passing grade. The three then begin making their way toward Burgundy together.

Arthur & Mordred: Huff... Huff...
Siegfried: Hmm... That took a little too long, but I suppose you barely scrape by with a passing grade.
Arthur: Yeesh. What happened to all those compliments you gave us back at the training grounds? You don't pull any punches...
Siegfried: That goes without saying. The moment you set foot outside the capital, there's no one else to protect you.
Siegfried: At the very least, you have to be able to protect yourself.
Mordred: Heh! Sounds good to me! While Arthur's dragging his feet, I'll use this journey to hone my skills!
Arthur: What! I'm not dragging my feet! I'll improve by leaps and bounds too—you just wait and see!
Siegfried: If you two are going to keep chatting, then I'll go on ahead.
Siegfried increases his speed, leaving Arthur and Mordred behind.
Arthur: Hey! Wait for us!
Mordred: We're coming!
And so Arthur, Mordred, and Siegfried make their way toward the region of Burgundy.

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 2: Disaster - Episode 2

Along the way, Siegfried speaks of his days in the Royal Knights of Feendrache, including his time spent with King Joseph, the knight captain Gunther, and the king's attendant Kriemhild. While explaining to Arthur and Mordred that proper decorum and chivalry will be necessary for them to become knight captains, he suddenly senses monsters.

Siegfried, Arthur, and Mordred are en route to Burgundy.
Siegfried: This way.
Mordred: Yes, sir!
Arthur peeks at Siegfried's expression before opening his mouth to speak.
Arthur: Um...
Siegfried: What is it?
Arthur: Did you get promoted to captain right after you joined the Order?
Mordred: Oh! I wanna know too!
Siegfried: Well... Before I became captain of the Order of the Black Dragons, I was a member of the Royal Knights of Feendrache.
Arthur: The Royal Knights of Feendrache...
Mordred: I read about them in the library! If I remember correctly, they were the order of knights that preceded the Black Dragons.
Siegfried: Correct. That was ages ago, but in those days the captain's name was Gunther.
Siegfried: Around that time I was still a rookie knight without manners or a single chivalrous bone in my body.
Arthur: Whoa! I never would've guessed you used to be a knight-in-training just like us!
Mordred: It's hard to imagine after seeing you as you are now. What were you like back then, Siegfried?
Siegfried: It's not exactly an interesting story.
Arthur: Whaaat... You can't just stop there! I wanna know!
Seemingly won over by the pair's entreaties, Siegfried responds, looking slightly bashful.
Siegfried: Heh... Very well. It's a little embarrassing talking about my past, but if you insist.
Siegfried: Back then I was a fresh recruit of the Royal Knights of Feendrache...
Siegfried begins to speak about his past, a nostalgic smile on his face.
Siegfried: ...
One day, after finishing his duties with the Royal Knights of Feendrache, Siegfried sits drinking in a tavern of the capital.
Hagen: Well, look what the cat dragged in. I thought it reeked of beasts in here, but I guess it was just Siegfried.
Royal Knight 1: The stench is sure to make our drinks taste awful.
Royal Knight 2: Sir Hagen, did you hear? Apparently Siegfried slayed another pack of monsters all on his own.
Royal Knight 1: He acts alone so he can hog all the glory. If he likes being by himself so much, he shouldn't have joined a knight order.
Royal Knight 2: I guess there's no hope for someone not descended from knights or nobles.
Siegfried: ...
Hagen: Oh? The beast approaches.
Royal Knight 1: Wh-what's your problem? You looking for a fight?
Siegfried: Mind moving out of my way? I need a refill.
Royal Knight 2: D-don't act all high and mighty just because you happen to be a little strong! Come on, let's take this outside!
Siegfried: Good grief... Can't a guy drink in peace?
Siegfried: Fine by me. I'd be more than happy to take you on. All of you at once, for that matter.
Gunther: All right, that's enough! Stop right there!
Royal Knight 1: C-Captain!
Just as the situation is approaching its breaking point, Captain Gunther of the Royal Knights of Feendrache intervenes.
Gunther: Have you forgotten that fighting is prohibited? I'm willing to overlook it this time, so why don't we all calm down and return to our seats?
A bright voice suddenly resounds throughout the room, breaking through the tension caused by the fight.
Kriemhild: Sorry about that! We'll get them to settle down!
Kriemhild: Don't let us interrupt you!
Kriemhild lowers her head in apology to the barkeep and the other patrons.
Thanks to her warm disposition, the mood in the tavern returns to normal.
Royal Knight 2: W-we were just leaving.
Gunther: I see. I'll handle the tab, so take care on your way home.
Royal Knight 1: We'll be going now...
Royal Knight 2: Thanks for the drinks...
Gunther: Sure thing! See you later!
Siegfried: I'm heading out too.
Gunther: Oh, I have something to talk to you about, so would you mind sticking around?
Hagen takes that moment to interrupt, his voice dripping with contempt.
Hagen: Hmph... You sure have gotten attached to that beast His Majesty picked up on a whim.
Gunther: And then there's you, Hagen. Why are you so critical of everything he does?
Gunther: Are you intimidated by Siegfried's talent?
Hagen: How dare you.
Hagen: You've spoiled my drink... Step aside.
Hagen squares his shoulders and leaves the room in a huff.
Gunther: Don't let the door hit you on the way out!
Kriemhild: Phew... Now that those jerks are gone, I'm starving!
Kriemhild: Hehe... Time to enjoy some delicious food!
Siegfried looks at Gunther and Kriemhild, making no attempt to hide his scowl.
Siegfried: Sigh... You two again...
Gunther: Hey... You don't have to sigh so obviously like that. It hurts, you know.
Siegfried: Don't force yourselves to be around me.
Kriemhild: Force ourselves? The two of you just happened to be here when I got to the tavern.
Gunther: That's right. This is where we come to let off steam.
With that said, Gunther and Kriemhild order their usuals from the barkeep.
Gunther: So Siegfried, word has it you failed to show up for another mission briefing. Is that right?
Siegfried: That's the first I've heard of a briefing.
Gunther: Huh?
Kriemhild: Don't tell me... Hagen again?
Gunther: Sigh... That guy's methods are so petty.
Siegfried: No harm done. I wouldn't have gone anyway.
Gunther: Hey! You never had any intention of attending?
Siegfried: But I'm grateful I could make the most of my time by enjoying a nice, relaxing drink instead.
Siegfried: Though I guess even that ended up being spoiled.
Gunther: Don't be like that. Why don't you try interacting with your fellow knights from time to time?
Gunther: I bet you haven't even learned the names and faces of your own comrades yet.
Siegfried: There's no point. I can handle missions on my own.
Gunther: Ngh... Well... I guess that's true.
Gunther: But let's all try to get along as fellow knights of the order.
Siegfried: I'm not interested in making friends.
With that, Siegfried stands.
Siegfried: Now, if you'll excuse me.
Gunther: Oh! I almost forgot! You'll be at training tomorrow, right?
Siegfried: If I feel like it.
Gunther: If you don't show up, I'll be sending out a search party!
Kriemhild: Oh, that reminds me! There's something I was supposed to tell you!
Kriemhild: His Majesty will be at the usual spot! That's the message!
Siegfried: Got it.
With that, Siegfried heads out of the tavern.
Deep within the castle walls, Siegfried pays a visit to a deserted courtyard.
King Josef: Took you long enough. You're late for our appointment, you know.
Siegfried: I ran into some trouble.
King Josef: Siegfried, you're slipping into your old speech patterns.
Siegfried: My apologies.
King Josef: You have to understand you stick out like a sore thumb.
King Josef: You need to learn how to get along with others so you don't create unnecessary trouble.
Siegfried: Yes, Your Majesty.
King Josef: Hmph... Well, have a seat.
At King Josef's urging, Siegfried takes his seat.
King Josef: Have you read the book I gave you?
Siegfried: No, Your Majesty.
King Josef: Siegfried. I'm starting to think that perhaps you have no interest in learning about things like chivalry and proper decorum.
Siegfried: I came here to study the art of war in order to become stronger.
Siegfried: I fail to see how learning about chivalry and etiquette will make me stronger.
King Josef: Good grief... You're expecting immediate effects from reading a book? You certainly are a pragmatic fellow.
Siegfried: With all due respect... There's never a guarantee that I'll live to see tomorrow.
Siegfried: So why is it that everyone else seems to live their lives believing the next morning will come without fail?
King Josef: Oho... You sure say some interesting things for someone who refuses to read.
King Josef: It's true that you won't become stronger by simply reading a book.
King Josef: And there is in fact no guarantee that you'll live to see tomorrow.
King Josef: I don't know the reason why you live your life with such urgency...
King Josef: But there will no doubt come a time when the knowledge you learn from books will be of use to you.
Siegfried: I guess I'm just not cut out to be a knight after all.
King Josef: Siegfried... What is it that you're so afraid of?
Siegfried: I'm not afraid of anything.
King Josef: From where I'm standing, it appears you keep your distance not to prevent yourself from hurting others, but to prevent yourself from being hurt.
King Josef: Why do you go to such lengths to avoid getting close to others? What happened to you in the past?
Siegfried: Well...
King Josef: My apologies, I don't mean to pry. You're free to not answer.
Siegfried: ...
King Josef: Siegfried... I believe that true strength is something that exhibits itself naturally.
King Josef: Even without that tough-guy attitude and speech of yours, I have faith that your strength will shine through.
King Josef: When I first met you, you were truly like a wild animal...
King Josef: I couldn't help thinking that if I left you alone, eventually you really would turn into a monster.
Siegfried: Heh... You don't mince words.
Siegfried: I have to say, you're quite the oddball yourself, taking in that monster to teach him chivalry and manners.
Siegfried: Whatever happened to "a wise man does not court danger"?
King Josef: Well... I guess a wise man just courts entertainment instead.
Both: Heh...
King Josef: Now then, that's enough fun and games.
King Josef: Will you indulge me by attending another of my lectures for a bit?
Siegfried: Yes, Your Majesty.
King Josef: Very well. Then let's begin today's lesson.
Siegfried: Regrettably, I've forgotten my book.
King Josef: Well, no matter. In that case, you can just listen to me speak tonight.
King Josef: Let's go for a stroll.
Siegfried: Understood.
In this way, Siegfried was taught all the knowledge necessary for a knight directly from the king himself.
Even now, those teachings form the core of the knight known as Siegfried.
Siegfried: So anyway, that's what happened.
Arthur: Huh! I never would've guessed you used to be like that!
Mordred: Yeah... Sounds like you used to be a lot rougher around the edges... and grouchier too.
Siegfried: Heh... It's a shameful story to say the least, but I guess we can chalk it up to the follies of youth.
Siegfried: It's all thanks to King Josef's guidance that I was able to become a knight.
Arthur: Urgh... Guess I need to work on studying chivalry and etiquette more.
Mordred: Yeah. I've only ever thought about becoming a knight captain to make good money and help everybody at the orphanage.
Siegfried: Heh... If you were a mercenary soldier without any attachments, you could choose your master based on whoever offered the most payment.
Siegfried: But you're going to become knight captains, right? In that case, there will come a time when proper decorum and chivalry are demanded of you.
Arthur & Mordred: Yes, sir!
Siegfried: I like your spirit.
Just then, Siegfried seems to sense something and stops Arthur and Mordred in their tracks.
Siegfried: Wait, you two. Can you sense those monsters?
Arthur: Huh?
Mordred: Not in the least!
Siegfried: Try coming this way...
Arthur and Mordred approach the area indicated by Siegfried.
Siegfried: This type of monster attracts its prey using mucus that emits a unique odor.
Mordred: Now that you mention it... Something does smell weird!
Siegfried: The mucus contains a powerful toxin used to dissolve its prey, so be careful.
Arthur: Urgh... So like, poison? Creepy!
Siegfried: Now then... I'll show you how to defeat it, so follow my lead.
Arthur & Mordred: Yes, sir!

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 2: Disaster - Episode 2: Scene 2

After defeating the monsters, the three knights arrive at the orphanage to find it safe and sound. Siegfried grudgingly agrees to let Arthur and Mordred continue traveling with him, and they resume their journey toward Burgundy. Meanwhile the White Dragons depart for Burgundy, led by Lancelot.

Thanks to Siegfried's instruction, Arthur and Mordred are able to defeat the monsters.
After that, the group arrives at the orphanage with no further incident.
Arthur and Mordred survey the building from a distance, hidden from view.
Arthur: Thank goodness! It doesn't look like there's anything bad going down around here!
Mordred: Heh. The sister and the kids are playing just like they always do.
Siegfried: Are you sure you don't want to say hello?
Arthur: Nah, that's okay!
Mordred: Showing our faces would cause a big fuss. And besides...
Arthur: We already decided we're not going to return until we're knight captains!
Mordred: What he said!
Siegfried: Heh... I admire your dedication.
Mordred: And now we've got another objective to carry out! Right, Arthur?
Arthur: Yeah! We sure do!
Siegfried: And what might that be? Haven't you two already achieved your objective?
Arthur and Mordred fidget for a moment as they gather the courage to ask Siegfried a question.
Arthur: Um... Do you think it'd be okay if we came with you, Siegfried?
Siegfried: No. There's no telling what dangers may lie ahead.
Mordred: We're prepared for that! If we run into danger, we'll go back to the capital!
Arthur: And we'll follow any orders you give us!
Siegfried: By no means will the two of you be coming along. You'd just slow me down, and I'd like to keep my concerns to an absolute minimum.
Mordred: We know we're a burden. But we'll never become knight captains the way we are now.
Arthur: We wanna learn lots of things from you, just like how you learned from King Josef!
Siegfried: You two...
The pair refuse to budge, and Siegfried finally looks skyward, seemingly defeated.
Siegfried: Oh, all right.
Siegfried: My fate was already sealed when I agreed to bring you two with me in the first place.
Arthur: Wait, really?
Mordred: We can come with you?
Siegfried: Yes, but only because I concluded it would be safer to let you come along than to have you end up following me anyway.
Siegfried: But whatever you do, don't act on your own.
Siegfried himself is surprised by his own decision that completely contradicts his usual way of doing things.
Arthur: Woohoo! You're the best, Siegfried!
Siegfried: But remember... If you sense even the slightest hint of danger, you're to run away without me.
Siegfried: Don't even think about fighting.
Mordred: Okay! We promise!
Siegfried: Then let's hurry toward Burgundy.
Arthur & Mordred: Yes, sir!
The three knights resume their journey to Burgundy.
Meanwhile a squadron of White Dragons departs for Burgundy, led by Lancelot.
Lancelot: All right, Vane. Look after the city for us.
Vane: You got it, Lancey! Don't worry about us. You just get out there and do your thing!
Lancelot: Right. I'm off.
Lancelot turns to face the White Dragons and holds his sword aloft.
Lancelot: Proud knights of the Order of Dragons! We march for Burgundy to quell the threat of monsters!
White Dragons: Yes, sir!
As the knights-in-training see the White Dragons off with sparkling eyes, Tornelio alone wears a worried expression.
Tornelio: (Hey, Cruz... I don't see Arthur and Mordred. Do you know where they went?)
Cruz: (No idea...)
Tornelio: (Really? This isn't good... Where could they have gone?)
Cruz: (It doesn't look like they're around here anywhere...)
Henry: Hey, you two! We're supposed to head to the barracks to rest! Make sure to pass the message along to those other two morons too!
Tornelio: O-okay! I'll let them know!
Tornelio: (If those two don't hurry back, they're going to miss roll call!)
Having been the first to notice Arthur and Mordred's absence, Tornelio worries over the knowledge alone.

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 2: Disaster - Episode 3

Siegfried tells Arthur and Mordred about his battle with Fafnir, where he had found himself on the brink of death because of a man named Hagen. But thanks to Gunther having him drink Fafnir's blood, he miraculously pulled through. Following the knights' return to the capital, Hagen was exiled from the kingdom.

Arthur and Mordred have completed their initial objective of confirming the orphanage's safety.
But the pair then begged to accompany Siegfried on his way to Burgundy.
Worn down by their persistence, Siegfried reluctantly granted them permission to come with him.
Along the way, Arthur and Mordred fire question after question at Siegfried with deep interest.
Arthur: You became captain of the Black Dragons after you defeated Fafnir, right?
Siegfried: Right. I was praised for my achievements and appointed as King Josef's personal bodyguard, as well as captain of the Black Dragons.
Mordred: What was it like beating Fafnir?
Siegfried: Well... It's a long story, but to sum things up, the battle was a fierce one.
Arthur & Mordred: Please tell us more!
Siegfried: Sheesh... It's not a very interesting story, but I suppose it'll be a decent way to pass the time.
Some time ago, the True Dragon Fafnir that dwelled in the Howling Valley went on a rampage, causing damage to the nearby villages.
King Josef: Captain Gunther of the Royal Knights, and Sir Siegfried.
King Josef: I hereby command you to quell the threat of the True Dragon Fafnir.
Gunther & Siegfried: Yes, Your Majesty!
Hagen: (When did that damned Siegfried start to get such preferential treatment?)
Hagen: (Heh heh... Well, no matter. Just you wait.)
Siegfried and Gunther—captain of the Royal Knights of Feendrache—were ordered to subjugate the fearsome beast.
And so the Royal Knights depart for the dragon's lair, led by Gunther.
They traverse the Howling Valley and at long last arrive at the den of the True Dragon Fafnir.
Gunther's squadron of elite forces lead the vanguard joined by Siegfried, with Hagen's unit bringing up the rear.
Hagen's unit has volunteered to act as the supply convoy, tasked with providing support for the knights who will battle the dragon.
Gunther: The time has finally come, Siegfried.
Siegfried: Indeed.
Hagen: (You'll both meet your end this day too.)
Siegfried: You look a bit pale, Hagen. Everything all right?
Hagen: I-I'm fine.
Siegfried: ...
Gunther: Hagen, we'll be counting on you to tend to the wounded.
Hagen: I'm well aware. You'd better return victorious.
Gunther's unit and Siegfried enter Fafnir's den, while Hagen's squadron remain outside the cave.
They immediately put their battle strategy in motion.
Gunther: We'll stall the dragon while you head in to deliver the finishing blow.
Siegfried: Understood.
Fafnir: Grrr...
Siegfried: Sorry for waking you from your nap, but don't worry—I'll see to it you have a nice, long sleep.
Siegfried: Unfortunately for you, I've decided to side with people over beasts.
Siegfried: What do you say we put our lives on the line and have an all-out battle?
Fafnir: Groooar!
Siegfried: Haaah!
The force from Siegfried and Fafnir's clash shakes the walls of the cave.
Gunther: All right! Cover the left and right flanks and lend Siegfried your support!
Gunther's Unit: Yes, sir!
Gunther's Unit: ...
Gunther: What's happening on the right flank? Take your positions immediately!
Gunther's Unit 3: Sorry, Captain!
Gunther's Unit 4: We...
And with that, the knights assigned to the right flank run out of the cave as fast as their legs can carry them.
Gunther: What... What is the meaning of this!
With half their forces gone, Gunther and his unit are visibly shaken.
Siegfried: Hey, Gunther! What's going on!
Gunther: H-hold on, Siegfried! Give us a moment to regroup!
Just then, a breathless knight dashes up to Gunther.
Messenger: Huff... Huff...
Captain Gunther!
Gunther: Wait... I thought you were guarding the capital!
Messenger: I came here in secret with a message from Kriemhild!
Messenger: According to her information, Hagen and his unit are conspiring to see to it that you fall in battle!
Messenger: You must abandon the subjugation of Fafnir and return to the capital at once!
Gunther: So that was Hagen's doing!
As the knight delivers his message, the mouth of the cave begins to crumble.
Hagen: (Now... Go on and be a nice snack for Fafnir.)
Hagen's Unit 1: Say... If those two are defeated, who's gonna defeat Fafnir?
Hagen's Unit 2: How am I supposed to know! I'm sure Hagen has a plan!
Hagen: There's no need for concern. Once Gunther and Siegfried are dead and gone, our unit will subjugate the beast.
Hagen: And then you'll receive a reward large enough for you, your children, and even your children's children to live a life of luxury.
Fafnir: Groooar!
Siegfried: ...!
Run!
Gunther's Unit 1: Aaahh!
Gunther's Unit 2: Gyaaah!
Siegfried: Damn it!
The knights drop like flies as Fafnir's scorching hellfire engulfs them one after another.
Gunther: Ngh... What do we do now!
Siegfried: Hyaaah!
Fafnir: Groooar!
Siegfried dodges Fafnir's attacks, finding opportunities to strike whenever he can.
Gunther: Incredible... Siegfried is holding his own against Fafnir!
Fafnir: Groooar!
Siegfried: Tch...
Siegfried: Haah!
Siegfried manages to defend his fellow knights from the dragon's flames.
But his body becomes increasingly battered as he continues to fight even while protecting his comrades.
Siegfried: Huff... Huff...
Gunther: Siegfried! I'll fight with you!
Siegfried: No! You focus on finding a way to take the others and escape!
Gunther: But... If I do that, you'll...
Siegfried and the True Dragon Fafnir are both teetering on the brink of defeat.
Knight and dragon alike sense that the next strike will determine the battle.
Siegfried: The rest is in your hands, Gunther.
Gunther: Wait... What are you...
Fafnir: Groooar!
The next moment, Fafnir sinks its enormous fangs deeply into Siegfried's flesh.
Siegfried: Rgh...
But rather than dodge, Siegfried takes the attack head-on.
Siegfried can feel the beast's fangs piercing his core.
Siegfried: Urgh...
Siegfried: This... is the end!
The next moment, Siegfried thrusts his blade into the mighty dragon's throat.
Fafnir: Groooar!
Siegfried: Urgh... You're not... getting away...
Even as he coughs up blood, Siegfried refuses to release his blade.
Fafnir: Grah...
At long last, the True Dragon Fafnir collapses to the ground, unmoving.
Gunther: Siegfriiied!
Siegfried: Gun... ther...
Gunther immediately dashes over to Siegfried to find his friend seemingly on his last legs.
Gunther: Hey, Siegfried! Don't you dare die on me! I won't let you!
Siegfried: It's... too late... This is the end... for me...
Gunther: Don't say that! Stay with me!
Gunther: The man who emerges victorious is the man who continues struggling until the bitter end!
Siegfried: Don't be... ridiculous...
Gunther: Ugh... Damn it... Damn it! Isn't there anything I can do!
Almost unconsciously, Gunther picks up a helmet lying close by.
He then drips some of Fafnir's blood into the helmet and holds it to Siegfried's lips.
Siegfried: What... are you...
Gunther: Just drink it!
At Gunther's urging, Siegfried drains the helmet of Fafnir's blood.
Gunther: (I've heard that dragon blood possesses special powers...)
Gunther: (Please... Save him... Save Siegfried...)
Gunther: ...!
After ingesting the dragon's blood, Siegfried's wounds close in the blink of an eye.
And at long last Siegfried's heart begins to beat normally, and he manages to escape death.
Gunther: It... It's a miracle...
Siegfried: ...
Siegfried slips out of consciousness and falls into a deep sleep.
All those present are shocked by the miracle brought forth by Fafnir's blood.
Gunther: Listen up... Not a word of this to anyone. Forget any of this happened.
Messenger: Y-yes, sir!
Gunther: Now then... As soon as Fafnir's been sealed away, we'll make our departure.
Injured Knight: Understood!
Gunther: Siegfried... And the rest of you. Live on, no matter what.
Gunther and the other knights depart from the den with Siegfried in tow.
Meanwhile Hagen attempts to determine whether Siegfried and Gunther's forces are dead or alive.
Hagen: The cave has fallen quiet...
Hey, move those rocks and see what's happening inside.
Hagen's Unit: Yes, sir!
Hagen's knights begin moving the crumbled stones to investigate the inside of the cave.
Gunther: Haah!
Hagen's Unit 1: Urgh...
At that moment, Gunther and the other surviving knights who had been lying in wait leap out to restrain Hagen's forces.
Messenger: Hyah!
Hagen's Unit 2: Ngh...
Injured Knight: Don't move!
Gunther's Unit 3: You're all alive!
Gunther's Unit 4: Glad to see you safe, Captain Gunther!
Gunther: Don't move a muscle! I don't want to have to harm my own comrades!
Hagen: Tch... I can't believe they managed to survive against Fafnir in battle... They really are monsters...
Hagen: Now! Hurry and finish them off!
Hagen's Unit 1: Sir Hagen... Save me...
Hagen: Of course. I'll save you right now, so stay still.
Hagen: Go on, they're on the verge of death! They'll fall easily as they are now!
Hagen: By doing so, their achievements will be ours!
A sense of unrest spreads throughout the knights as Hagen and Gunther face off.
Gunther's Unit 3: Ngh...
Gunther: Don't let Hagen continue to manipulate you.
Gunther: Try using your heads a little.
Gunther: After you kill us, you'll be the next ones to die.
Gunther's Unit 4: What!
Hagen: Curse you, Gunther! Stop speaking nonsense!
Hagen: Come on, do it! Finish them off!
Gunther: I know Hagen must be blackmailing you somehow.
Gunther: I'll handle everything once we return to the capital, so please... Put your faith in me!
Gunther's Unit 3: Urgh... Captain! We're so sorry...
Hagen: Confound it! Useless fools!
Hagen: Now, Hagen Unit! Slay them all!
Gunther's Unit: ...
But the remaining members of Hagen's unit and the traitors from Gunther's join together to restrain Hagen.
Hagen: You... You filthy recreants!
Gunther: Hagen... It's over for you.
Following those events, Gunther and the other knights return safely to the capital with Siegfried.
And so Fafnir is sealed away, and Hagen's conspiracy is exposed just in the nick of time.
Thanks in part to Kriemhild's testimony, Hagen's crimes are brought to light, and he is exiled from the kingdom.

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 2: Disaster - Episode 4

Siegfried continues his tale, explaining that he and Gunther were commended for their contributions to the defeat of Fafnir, and that he was then made captain of the Order of the Black Dragons at Gunther's recommendation. As Siegfried finishes his story, the three knights come across a village being attacked by wyverns.

After some time has passed and things have returned to normal, Gunther and Siegfried join King Josef in the throne room.
King Josef: Gunther, Savior of the Nation. Come forward.
Gunther: Yes, Your Majesty.
King Josef: Siegfried the Dragonslayer. Come forward.
Siegfried: Yes, Your Majesty.
King Josef: We have gathered to honor these two heroes for their service in subjugating the True Dragon Fafnir.
King Josef: I had intended to bestow a great reward upon Gunther and Siegfried both, but they vehemently declined.
King Josef: As such, those funds will be added to the sum awarded to the injured knights and their families.
Gunther: We are grateful for your generous support.
Gunther & Siegfried: Thank you.
King Josef: And Siegfried.
King Josef: I hereby appoint you as my royal guard.
King Josef: Henceforth I would like you to be further involved in the affairs of the kingdom by acting alongside me.
Siegfried: Yes, Your Majesty.
King Josef: Furthermore, in light of Fafnir's defeat, I have an important announcement to make.
At King Josef's proclamation, a hush falls over the crowd.
King Josef: The Royal Knights of Feendrache will henceforth be known as the Order of the Black Dragons.
King Josef: And as such, I would like to nominate Captain Gunther of the Royal Knights as captain of the Order of the Black Dragons.
King Josef: What say you, Gunther? Do you accept?
Gunther: Me... Captain of the Black Dragons...
Gunther falls silent for a moment before finally gathering himself and offering a proposal to the king.
Gunther: Your Majesty... It is with my deepest regret that I decline my appointment as captain of the Order of the Black Dragons.
King Josef: What's this? May I inquire as to your reason?
Gunther: Of course, Your Majesty. You see...
Gunther: I believe Siegfried would be more suited to the position of captain of the Black Dragons.
King Josef: Siegfried, you say...
Gunther: I am not the hero who defeated the True Dragon Fafnir.
Gunther: The true hero is you, Siegfried.
Siegfried: Me?
Gunther: I have faith that no one present that day in the dragon's den would object.
Gunther: Siegfried. If you would be willing, I would like you to accept the position of captain.
Siegfried: Gunther...
King Josef: Hmm... If you would go so far as to say all that, I have no reason to object.
King Josef: Siegfried. Do you wish to accept the position of captain of the Order of the Black Dragons?
Siegfried: Me... Captain...
After a brief pause, Siegfried makes up his mind and responds to the king's inquiry.
Siegfried: Yes, Your Majesty. I humbly accept the position!
Following his emphatic consent, Siegfried accepts the Black Dragon captain's armor and kneels before King Josef.
King Josef: Without further ado, I hereby declare Siegfried the first captain of the Order of the Black Dragons!
The throne room erupts with thunderous applause, in unanimous celebration of Siegfried's instatement as captain.
Siegfried: ...
Gunther: Congratulations, Siegfried.
Siegfried: Thank you, Gunther.
Kriemhild: Gunther! Siegfried! Congratulations to the both of you!
Kriemhild: We'll be waiting in the normal place, so come by later so we can all celebrate together!
Messenger: Please let me join you!
Amidst the deafening cheers, Gunther and Siegfried exchange a smile.
And so Siegfried becomes the first captain of the Order of the Black Dragons.
Siegfried: Heh... Sorry, that went on a bit long. Hope I didn't bore you.
Arthur: Not at all! That was an amazing story!
Mordred: Yeah... It almost seemed like something out of a legend. I'm not sure what to say...
Siegfried: Don't feel like you have to make any sort of clever comment.
Siegfried: If the story left even the smallest impression on you, then that's good enough for me.
Siegfried: What I want you to take from this is that I didn't become a knight captain by my own efforts.
Siegfried: I only became captain thanks to the help of my comrades.
Arthur: Got it! We'll keep that in mind!
Mordred: That was an educational experience!
Arthur: You know, he says that, but Siegfried seems to do everything by himself.
Mordred: Y-yeah... I guess that's because he can handle basically any problem all on his own...
Siegfried: Hmm... Arthur, Mordred. There's a village ahead.
The three knights have come upon a village in the region of Burgundy.
They arrive to find a flight of wyverns attacking the residents.
Wyvern: Groar!
Villager: Eek! Get away from me!
Siegfried: Arthur! Mordred! Help the villagers!
Arthur & Mordred: Yes, sir!

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 2: Disaster - Episode 4: Scene 2

After the wyverns have been defeated, Siegfried senses the presence of a dragon. Arthur and Mordred follow him in pursuit of its source.

Villager: Huff... Huff...
I thought I was a goner. Thank you for saving my life.
Siegfried: We're knights from the royal capital! What in the skies is going on here?
Villager: Dragons showed up out of nowhere and started attacking the village. We can't make heads or tails of it either.
Siegfried: I see. Tell the other villagers to take refuge inside their homes.
Villager: Y-yes, sir! Right away!
Siegfried: Let's go, Arthur. Mordred.
The three knights depart from the village and start walking.
Arthur: Where are we headed?
Siegfried: This way. You'll see if we follow the dragon's presence.
Mordred: You can sense dragons?
Siegfried: Yes, I can... It's like a gut feeling.
Arthur: Wow, guts are way more powerful than I thought!
Mordred: Are you sure you're mortal like the rest of us, Siegfried?
Siegfried: Come on, you two—focus. The dragon is nearby.
Arthur and Mordred follow after Siegfried as he leads them in the direction of the dragon's presence.

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 2: Disaster - Episode 5

The three knights arrive in a deserted village, and Siegfried heads into a run-down house alone to investigate. There he discovers a secret staircase leading to some sort of underground laboratory. Suddenly he finds himself face to face with Gunther, who has just taken Arthur and Mordred hostage.

As the three knights continue on, they come upon a deserted village.
Arthur: Whoa... This is kinda spooky...
Mordred: Do you think this used to be a village? It doesn't look like anyone's lived here in ages.
Siegfried: This place...
Siegfried begins to wander off, leaving a puzzled Arthur and Mordred behind.
Mordred: Siegfried? Where are you going?
Arthur: Hey, wait up!
Siegfried: ...
Siegfried walks matter-of-factly up to a rundown house.
Siegfried: You two wait outside.
Arthur: Okay.
Arthur: (Is Siegfried acting weird, or is it just me?)
Mordred: (He's definitely strange all right... He seems really distracted, like he's not all here.)
Mordred: Be careful, Siegfried.
Siegfried: Right...
Leaving Arthur and Mordred outside, Siegfried enters the house and begins to investigate.
Siegfried: Hmm... What do we have here...
Noticing an unusual spot in the floor, he looks closer to find a staircase leading to an underground room.
Siegfried: ...
Siegfried takes a deep breath and boldly descends the stairs.
Siegfried: What is this?
Beneath the dilapidated house he discovers what appears to be some sort of laboratory.
Siegfried: ...
Just then, Siegfried senses someone behind him and spins around to confront the intruder.
???: It's been so long, Siegfried.
Siegfried: Gunther! You're alive!
Siegfried is shocked to see the previous captain of the Royal Knights of Feendrache, Gunther, suddenly standing before him.
Gunther: I'm alive? Is that all you have to say? I must admit, I was hoping for a much warmer welcome after all this time.
Arthur: Siegfried! We're sorry...
Mordred: We really screwed up!
Siegfried: Arthur! Mordred!
Gunther: One move and they're dead.
Siegfried: Tch...
Arthur and Mordred have been taken hostage by Gunther, who seems to have changed completely from the kind captain Siegfried used to know.
Heeding Gunther's warning, Siegfried freezes in place.

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 3: Fate - Episode 1

With Arthur and Mordred as his hostages to prevent Siegfried from interfering, Gunther begins chanting a spell. As Siegfried suffers from its effects, the two hostages take their chance to break free. Siegfried orders them to return to Lancelot, but succumbs to the spell and falls unconscious shortly after they escape.1This is an unofficial, amateur translation.
The official English synopsis erroneously uses Chapter 4, Episode 1's skip summary.

Arthur and Mordred have been taken hostage by Gunther.
Meanwhile Siegfried waits for an opportunity to rescue them.
Gunther: Here I was expecting you to come alone, and then you show up with a couple of kids in tow. I have to say, I'm surprised.
Siegfried: Those two have nothing to do with me.
Siegfried: I don't know what this is all about... But if it's me you're after, let those kids go.
Gunther: Heh heh heh... Very well.
Gunther: The blond or the brunette—who should I let live? You can only pick one.
Siegfried: You bastard!
Arthur: We're so sorry, Siegfried!
Mordred: Ugh... What should we do?
Gunther: Silence, children.
Gunther ruthlessly tightens his grip on Arthur and Mordred.
Arthur: Urgh...
Mordred: Ngh...
Siegfried: Stop it, Gunther!
Gunther: Now, now... If you move, they're dead, remember?
Gunther: The next time you move a muscle, their lives are forfeit.
Siegfried: Tch... All right, you've made yourself clear.
Gunther: I have to hand it to these two—they saved me a lot of trouble in capturing you.
Gunther then begins chanting a spell.
Siegfried: Urgh... Aaargh!
Siegfried suddenly crouches to the ground, writhing in pain.
Gunther: Oho... Looks like the effects are immediate.
Arthur: (Mordred... Siegfried's not gonna last at this rate...)
Mordred: (I know... And it'd be pretty lame for us to go down without a fight...)
Arthur & Mordred: (If we could just find an opening!)
Gunther: Heh heh heh... And with that, the mighty Siegfried has been caught like a rat in a trap.
Siegfried: Haaah!
The moment Gunther slackens his guard, Siegfried strikes.
Gunther: What! You can still move?
But before Siegfried's sword can reach its target, Gunther's chanting inhibits his movements once again.
Arthur & Mordred: (Now, Mordred!)
(Let's go, Arthur!)
Just as Gunther is distracted, Arthur and Mordred exchange glances and make their move.
Arthur & Mordred: Haaah!
Without any need for words, Arthur and Mordred attack Gunther in perfect unison.
Gunther: Urgh... You wretched brats!
The pair succeed in escaping from their binds.
Arthur: Siegfried!
Mordred: We'll save you!
Siegfried: You're no match for him! Return to the capital and inform Lancelot and the White Dragons!
Arthur: ...!
Yes, sir!
Mordred: We'll come back to save you no matter what!
Intent on obeying Siegfried's vehement orders, Arthur and Mordred dash out of the underground room.
Gunther: Tch... They're dead meat.
Siegfried: Huff... Huff...
Siegfried: Hold it, Gunther. Are you sure it's safe to take your eyes off me?
Gunther: Ugh... You can still move in a situation like this? You really are a monster...
Spitting out the words, Gunther resumes his chanting.
Siegfried: Aaargh...
At long last, Siegfried falls unconscious.
Gunther: Well, no matter. I've completed my first objective.
Having succeeded in capturing Siegfried, Gunther cackles to himself alone in the basement.

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 3: Fate - Episode 2

Lancelot arrives in Burgundy and sets out to meet up with Siegfried, but on his way he runs into (Captain)'s crew and Percival. As they continue on together, they come across a frantic Arthur and Mordred. Upon hearing about Siegfried's predicament, the group rushes off to save him.

Meanwhile Lancelot and the White Dragons arrive at the same village the others had visited a short time earlier.
After receiving information from the villagers, Lancelot sets out after Siegfried.
Lancelot: According to the villagers, Siegfried went in this direction.
Lancelot: All right... The rest of you tend to the wounded and search for any remaining dragons. Defeat any you might find.
White Dragon: Yes, sir! Understood!
Lancelot: Now then... I'll head after Siegfried.
As Lancelot makes to leave the village, he suddenly hears a familiar voice.
Percival: Hey, Lancelot!
Lancelot: Percival! And (Captain) and the crew!
Lancelot: But why are you here?
Lyria: We heard from Aglovale that there was something bad happening in Burgundy...
Vyrn: We were worried about everybody in Feendrache, so we came to see what was goin' on!
  1. Mind if we come along?
  2. Percival was sick with worry.

Choose: Mind if we come along?
Lancelot: Not at all! You're more than welcome! I can't think of anything more reassuring than having you and the crew by my side, (Captain).

Choose: Percival was sick with worry.
Percival: I was no such thing.
Percival: Burgundy is an important point of trade, so if the disturbance isn't brought to an end quickly, the surrounding nations will be affected as well.
Lancelot: Good point! Well, either way, I'm grateful to you both—(Captain), Percival.
Percival: We'll accompany you while we exchange information.
Lancelot: That would be a huge help. Follow me.
Continue 1
And so Lancelot, Percival, and (Captain)'s crew join together to follow Siegfried's trail.
Percival: I assume this means Siegfried went ahead on his own?
Lancelot: Correct. According to the villagers, he headed this direction in pursuit of a dragon.
Percival: It certainly is unusual for a dragon to assault a village.
As Lancelot looks around the area, he seems to remember something and turns to ask Percival a question.
Lancelot: If I'm not mistaken... Isn't this near the area where we fought those rebel forces immediately after becoming vice-captains?
Percival: Hmm... Seems to be.
Suddenly they hear rustling in the brush ahead of them.
Lancelot: That was fast.
Percival: Stay on guard, Lancelot. (Captain).
Lancelot: Right. I know.
But rather than Siegfried or a dragon, a pair of unexpected figures leap out of the brush.
Arthur: C-Captain Lancelot!
Mordred: (Captain)! Percival!
Lancelot: Arthur! Mordred! What are you doing here!
Arthur: Captain Lancelot... Y-you have to save Siegfried!
Mordred: (Captain)! Percival! P-please!
As though the dam holding back the emotions inside them has finally broken, Arthur and Mordred burst into tears.
Lancelot: I can't say I understand the situation, but try to calm down.
Percival: You can fill us in on the way. If you want to save Siegfried, take us to where he is.
Arthur: Y-yes, sir!
Mordred: Follow us! We'll lead the way!
Vyrn: Let's get a move on!
Lyria: Yeah!
Come on, (Captain)!
With Arthur and Mordred in the lead, the group hurries toward Siegfried's location.

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 3: Fate - Episode 3

Arthur and Mordred lead (Captain) and company to Siegfried's location. There they encounter Gunther, who was about to escape with the unconscious Siegfried in tow. Gunther summons a flight of wyverns and commences an attack on (Captain) and the others.

Thanks to Arthur and Mordred showing the way, (Captain) and company arrive at the run-down house in the deserted village.
Arthur: Siegfried!
Gunther: Tch... That was quick.
Siegfried: ...
Mordred: Let Siegfried go!
Gunther had left the house with Siegfried, intending to make his escape through the air atop a dragon.
Lancelot: You... Who are you! And what do you plan to do with Siegfried!
Percival: Now that we're here, there's no escape.
(Captain) and company block Gunther's path, refusing to let him flee.
  1. Give it up and surrender!

Choose: Give it up and surrender!
Gunther: Sigh... There's no end to you pests.
Gunther: Go ahead, I dare you to move. Do you not care what happens to your dear friend Siegfried?
Percival: If you were after Siegfried's life, you would have killed him when you had the chance.
Gunther: Oho... Seems there's a level-headed one in the bunch. But how do you know I won't change my mind?
Lancelot: Try anything funny and my blade will be at your throat before you can so much as blink!
Vyrn: Yeah! You better give up if you know what's good for you!
Lyria: That's right! There's nowhere to run!
Gunther: Oh? Are you sure about that?
As Gunther begins to chant, a flight of wyverns appears and surrounds (Captain) and company.
Wyvern: Grah!
Arthur: These are the same wyverns as the ones in the village!
Mordred: In other words... he was controlling those dragons!
Lancelot: Arthur, Mordred! You two stand back!
Arthur: But we want to help!
Percival: Listen carefully... If you want to save Siegfried, you need to leave this to us.
Mordred: Okay!
Come on, Arthur! We're leaving!
Arthur: Dang it... In the end, we're nothing but a burden...
Percival: Here they come! Lancelot, (Captain), Lyria!
Lancelot: Right! Let's settle this swiftly!
(Captain) and Lyria prepare to assist Lancelot and Percival in battle against the wyverns.
  1. Let's go!

Choose: Let's go!
Lyria: I'll help too!

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 3: Fate - Episode 4

(Captain) and company defeat the wyverns easily, but Gunther seems surprisingly unconcerned. He rushes behind the house with Siegfried, where he chants another spell to summon a massive dragon. After formulating a quick plan of action, (Captain), Lancelot, and Percival join forces to defeat the creature.

Lancelot & Percival: Haaah!
  1. Haaah!

Choose: Haaah!
Wyvern: Grah!
Lyria: Out of the way, please!
Wyvern: Grah!
Mordred: Whoa...
Arthur: They scattered all those wyverns in seconds...
Gunther: I never expected you to possess such skill... And you even summoned a primal beast.
Gunther: It seems I'll need to think bigger...
Even after watching (Captain) and company dispose of the wyverns in an instant, Gunther remains cool and collected.
Percival: What's wrong? Ready to surrender?
Lancelot: You can't escape... Hand Siegfried over to us!
Gunther: I guess there's no other option...
Still carrying Siegfried, Gunther dashes into the house with (Captain) and company on his heels.
Vyrn: Hey! Get back here!
Percival: Watch out. This could be a trap.
Lancelot: Right. Let's proceed with caution.
Lyria: Okay! We won't let him get away!
Mordred: Come on, Arthur! We're going too!
Arthur: Right behind you!
(Captain) and company chase Gunther out the back door of the house, where he places his hand on the ground and begins chanting a strange spell.
Gunther: Come... Heed my call!
Suddenly an enormous dragon appears from out of the magic circle on the ground.
???: Groooar!
Gunther: Hahaha! What do you think of this beauty?
Lancelot: What the... He had a trump card hidden up his sleeve all along?
Percival: Tch... We won't be able to get close unless we defeat the beast.
Lancelot: Percival, (Captain)! We'll have to coordinate our attacks!
  1. I'll take the first strike!
  2. I'll attack from the left flank!
  3. I'll attack from the right flank!
  4. Lyria and I will back you up!

Choose: I'll take the first strike!
Lancelot: Understood! I'll attack while it's routed!
Percival: Hmph... Leave the finishing blow to me!

Choose: I'll attack from the left flank!
Percival: In that case, I'll use that moment to follow up from the right flank and stop the beast in its tracks!
Lancelot: I'll finish it off with a strike from the air!

Choose: I'll attack from the right flank!
Lancelot: Then I'll follow up from the left flank and distract it!
Percival: I'll use that opportunity to deliver the finishing blow!

Choose: Lyria and I will back you up!
Percival: I'll start out by using my flames to make it recoil!
Lyria: Then I'll have Tiamat use her winds to fan the flames!
Lancelot: I'll follow up by freezing it in place with my ice!
  1. Leave the finishing blow to me!

Choose: Leave the finishing blow to me!
Continue 1
Arthur: You have to save Siegfried!
Mordred: Please!
Percival: We will. There's no need to worry. Leave the rest to us.
Lancelot: Everyone ready? Let's do this just like we planned!
???: Groooar!

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 3: Fate - Episode 4: Scene 2

The dragon is defeated, but it's too late—Gunther is already making his escape into the skies with Siegfried in tow. With no way to pursue them, (Captain) and company watch helplessly as their friend and foe disappear into the distance.

Dinilysia: Graaah...
Following the joint attacks of (Captain) and company, the dragon collapses to the ground.
Lancelot: Did we defeat it?
Percival: It appears so...
By the time (Captain) and company manage to defeat the dragon, Gunther has already taken Siegfried and flown high into the air.
Lancelot: Siegfried!
Gunther: Hahaha! Too bad.
Siegfried: ...
Percival: You knave!
Gunther: I'll be taking Siegfried with me.
Gunther: So long!
Lancelot: Stop right there, you fiend!
Percival: Tch... We can't hope to catch up!
Lyria: Siegfried!
Vyrn: He's gonna get away!
  1. This can't be happening!

Choose: This can't be happening!
(Captain) and company watch helplessly as Gunther and Siegfried disappear into the distance.
Arthur: Urgh... Siegfried...
Mordred: It's all our fault...
Siegfried has been whisked away despite the best efforts of (Captain) and company.
What fate lies in store for Siegfried?
And what could Gunther's true objective be?

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 4: Yesteryear - Episode 1

Siegfried dreams of the past, to just after the Order of the Black Dragons was formed. Gunther asks for Siegfried's help in his pursuit of a relationship with Kriemhild, but Kriemhild seems to have an interest in Siegfried instead. Oblivious to this, Siegfried remains loyal to Gunther and plays a large role in getting the couple together. When King Josef hears of this, he praises Siegfried for his progress.

One day, Gunther asks Siegfried to meet him at their usual tavern.
Gunther: ...
Siegfried: Gunther, I'm sorry for being late.
Gunther: O-oh! You're fine! Actually, I should be the one apologizing for making you come out here.
Siegfried: It's no bother. What did you need me for?
Gunther: Er, well... About that...
Siegfried: Is it something difficult to speak about?
Gunther: No, nothing like that. I just have a favor to ask.
Siegfried: Well, I can't help unless you tell me what it is.
Gunther: R-right, yeah.
Gunther: The thing is... Um, do you mind if I get another drink first before we start?
Siegfried: I don't mind... Actually, let me join you. I'll have what you're having.
Their orders come soon after, and they spend a while nursing their drinks.
Siegfried: So Gunther, how much longer am I going to have to wait before you start talking?
Gunther: Oh yeah, we're supposed to be talking! Sorry!
At Siegfried's prodding, Gunther eventually reveals the purpose of the meeting.
Gunther: What do you think about Kriemhild?
Siegfried: About Kriemhild?
Gunther: I mean, you've got to have an opinion of her, right?
Gunther: If you had to introduce her to someone, what would you say about her?
Siegfried: Hmm. I would say she's a good-natured person who serves as His Majesty's attendant.
Gunther: And?
Siegfried: That's all I've got.
Gunther: I see... Okay, I guess that's good enough.
Gunther: (I didn't think Siegfried thought about her any other way, but I wanted to make sure.)
Gunther seems satisfied with what he gleans from Siegfried's reaction.
Gunther: What I wanted to ask you today is... Would you be the go-between for me and Kriemhild?
Siegfried: A go-between? What for?
Siegfried: You two seem plenty acquainted already to me.
Gunther: Sure, as friends we get along decently.
Gunther: But that's not what I'm asking about. It's, well...
Siegfried: Well? Well what?
Gunther: Are you serious? Normally a person would get it by now!
Gunther: Don't tell me you're messing with me!
Siegfried: I am completely serious.
Gunther: Sigh... I should have known better than to expect a normal reaction out of you.
Gunther finally loses his patience at Siegfried's obliviousness and speaks his true intentions.
Gunther: Let me spell it out for you: I want to get together with Kriemhild romantically!
Siegfried: Oh, that's what you meant.
Siegfried: So you wish to change your relationship with her from a platonic one to a romantic one?
Gunther: Yes, that's what I said.
Gunther: I knew you were a strange guy, but this is just too much...
Siegfried: Am I that strange?
Gunther: Summarizing everything up in one line like that makes this seem like some strategy meeting.
Siegfried: Heh... Isn't it though? I'll need an appropriate plan of action to tackle this important task you've given me.
Gunther: Hold on! Does that mean you're going to help?
Siegfried: Yes, as long as you're fine with somebody like me helping.
Gunther: Siegfried!
Siegfried: How exactly am I supposed to help though?
Gunther: Don't you worry about that. I've already got a plan...
They strategize late into the evening at the tavern.
A few days later, Kriemhild suddenly asks Siegfried to meet with her.
He greets her at the same tavern.
Siegfried: Kriemhild, I'm sorry to keep you waiting.
Kriemhild: Don't be. I'm the one who's taking time out of your day.
Siegfried: Actually, this works out quite well for me. I have something to speak with you about.
Kriemhild: You do?
Siegfried: Yes, but you invited me first.
Siegfried: Go ahead and tell me what you wanted to talk about.
Kriemhild: O-oh, um... I'd honestly prefer it if you spoke first.
Siegfried: Hmm, as long as you don't mind then.
Siegfried calmly starts explaining to the suddenly nervous Kriemhild what his motive for meeting is.
Siegfried: I received tickets to a play from a troupe leader who is on good terms with our knightly order.
Kriemhild: A play? Is it the one that's currently being performed in the capital?
Siegfried: Yes, that's the one. You know about it?
Kriemhild: Know about it? I'm a huge fan of that troupe!
Siegfried: That's perfect then. Would you like to watch it together?
Kriemhild: You're kidding! Of course I would! I'd love to!
Siegfried: That's a relief to hear. Here you go.
With a smile, he hands over the ticket.
Kriemhild: Hehehe! Awesome! You have no idea how happy this makes me! Thanks, Siegfried!
Kriemhild: (I can't believe Siegfried made the first move and invited me to the play!)
Siegfried: Heh... I'm sure Gunther will be happy to hear you're so excited.
Kriemhild: Huh? Gunther?
Siegfried: These tickets were given as thanks for the security his Royal Knights once provided for the troupe.
Siegfried: So you should really be thanking him for them.
Kriemhild: Oh... I see.
Siegfried: I understand your excitement. It's sure to be an enjoyable night for the three of us.
Feeling accomplished, he gently smiles and nods eagerly to reinforce his point.
Kriemhild: I guess it will be...
Siegfried: Hmm? You don't look too eager anymore. Is something wrong?
Kriemhild: No, nothing's wrong!
Kriemhild: Gosh, I'm so excited! I can't wait until the day of!
Siegfried: That's good then. Gunther will be overjoyed to know your response.
Siegfried: I only wish he could have seen your excitement in person.
Kriemhild: R-right! I'll have to thank him later!
Siegfried: Please do.
Suddenly, Siegfried's satisfied expression falls, and his eyes open wide as he remembers something.
Siegfried: Kriemhild, now that my business is concluded, what did you want to talk about?
Kriemhild: Oh yeah! Um...
Kriemhild quickly takes the pieces of paper sitting on her lap and hides them behind her back.
Kriemhild: I just wanted to talk about seeing the play myself.
Siegfried: Everything worked out nicely then.
Kriemhild: Exactly! What a coincidence! Hahaha!
Siegfried: Heh. The play can't come soon enough.
Kriemhild: Yeah.
Not too long after, the day of the performance arrives.
Kriemhild waits alone at their designated meeting place.
Kriemhild: ...
A man appears in the distance, running toward her at full speed.
Gunther: Kriemhild! Sorry for being late! Did you wait long?
Kriemhild: Don't worry, you're fine.
A torrent of words spill from Gunther's mouth as his eyes flicker about frantically.
Gunther: Siegfried got pulled aside for some emergency, so it looks like he's not gonna be able to make it.
Kriemhild: Oh...
Gunther: I'm really sorry about this. But he wanted the two of us to go ahead and enjoy ourselves.
Kriemhild: It's too bad he couldn't come. I mean, his ticket is wasted now.
Gunther: True. But that doesn't mean we should waste ours! Let's go in.
Kriemhild: You know what? Yeah! We'll just have to enjoy it for him too!
Gunther: That's the spirit! We better hurry or we'll be late!
Gunther's plan to watch the play alone with Kriemhild is a success.
Later on, Siegfried shares the passing of these casual events with King Josef.
Siegfried: And then Gunther thanked me for everything that happened.
King Josef: How interesting.
King Josef: What happened with Gunther and Kriemhild after that?
Siegfried: They didn't take long to grow closer from there, and I believe they even entered a relationship recently.
Siegfried: This is apparently all thanks to me. I've never had someone give me so many words of gratitude before.
King Josef: Was Kriemhild the one who thanked you?
Siegfried: No, Gunther was. Why?
King Josef: Ah... Please forget I asked.
King Josef: I suppose you're still hopeless outside of combat.
Siegfried: What are you referring to? Did I do something wrong?
King Josef: No, you did quite well. You've made an unbelievable amount of progress since we first met.
Siegfried: Oh. Thank you for your kind words.
Siegfried: I'm hoping that learning the subtleties of the heart will help me become stronger.
King Josef: So that was your goal?
King Josef: I can't say I'm surprised.
Siegfried: Well, I am fully devoted to bettering myself as a knight.
King Josef: Hmm.
After that conversation, more time passes. Eventually, news of Gunther and Kriemhild's engagement spreads throughout the kingdom.

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 4: Yesteryear - Episode 2

Some time after Gunther and Kriemhild's wedding, Siegfried meets them in their usual tavern, where Gunther reveals that he is going to quit being a knight and move to Burgundy with Kriemhild. Kriemhild informs Siegfried that they'd like him to name their child, and he later settles on the name Licht. But as more time passes, a rebellion arises in Burgundy.

Some time afterward, Siegfried is called to the same tavern where everything started.
Siegfried: I'm late, aren't I? Sorry about that.
Gunther: Actually, we just got here ourselves.
Kriemhild: We haven't ordered anything yet, so why don't we get started?
As soon as their drinks are ordered and everything arrives at the table, Gunther gulps his beverage down at an unusually rapid pace.
Gunther: Come on, start drinking, Siegfried! Today we're going to see which of us can outdrink the other!
Siegfried: ...
Gunther: Oh, but Kriemhild's going to sit this one out! Tea only for you!
Kriemhild: I can order it myself, thank you very much.
Kriemhild: You don't have to push yourself to keep up with him, Siegfried. Just drink at your own pace.
Siegfried: All right.
Gunther: Huh? What? You saying you won't drink what I got us?
Siegfried: I will, don't worry.
Gunther: That's what I thought! You'll drink what I pour, right, Siegfried!
The strangely elated Gunther continues to down drink after drink with Siegfried.
Kriemhild: Don't you think you're drinking too much?
Gunther: What? Nah, it's fine! This is just a bit of bonding between a former mentor and his pupil!
Siegfried: Indeed. Cheers.
Kriemhild: Sigh. Calling yourself his "former mentor" when you're acting nothing like one...
Gunther: You know, you've got a point there! Hahahaha!
Gunther chatters on cheerfully, his arm wrapped around Siegfried's shoulders.
Gunther: Do you remember the first time you met us, Siegfried?
Siegfried: The first time? Are you referring to when His Majesty was assaulted by monsters?
Gunther: Yep! You showed off your stupid levels of strength, yeah?
Gunther: When I saw how strong you were, I was completely floored.
Gunther: I just froze. Forgot to even run up to protect His Majesty.
Gunther: All I could do was think to myself, "Wow, there's really somebody this strong in the world."
Gunther: For the first time in my life I realized there were places a person couldn't reach no matter how much effort they put in.
Siegfried: I'm hardly anything that special. You're plenty—
The completely sloshed Gunther loudly interrupts Siegfried to continue his story.
Gunther: You don't need to convince me! I know who I am—former captain of an order of knights.
Gunther: I've got plenty of pride in my skills, and I know where I stand among all the people I've seen.
Gunther: But you're on a whole different level of talent. It wouldn't be enough to call you a genius either.
Gunther: You made me realize how average I actually was, that I was just decently scraping by.
Gunther: Being captain slowly became a heavy weight on my shoulders, and all I wanted to do was run away from everything after a while.
Gunther: That's why I really owe you one for taking on the captain title when the Black Dragons were formed.
Gunther: I'd already reached the end of my rope by then, dealing with all the duties of being captain and having responsibilities hanging over my head.
Gunther: I can't wait to quit being a knight altogether and move out to Burgundy with Kriemhild.
Siegfried: I see...
Gunther: You know, Siegfried? You've really changed since we first met.
Gunther: You can handle everything without me, right?
Siegfried: I believe so.
Gunther: Thanks, Siegfried.
Siegfried: No, I'm the one who should be thanking you.
Gunther: Hahaha, never thought I'd see you bow your head and give me thanks.
Gunther: Doesn't feel as good considering I'd hoped to beat you at drinking though.
Gunther: But it looks like even that's not something I can win at...
Gunther's head falls to the table as unconsciousness takes him, finally succumbing to the alcohol.
Kriemhild: That's enough excitement for tonight.
Kriemhild gently eases his head into a more comfortable position.
Kriemhild: He's really such an idiot.
Turning back to Siegfried, she sits up straight and holds his gaze.
Kriemhild: I suppose now is as good a time as ever to let you know I'm currently with child.
Siegfried: Congratulations. That's wonderful news.
Kriemhild: I can't believe he passed out before he could tell you himself.
She laughs affectionately as she brushes Gunther's hair back.
Kriemhild: He was probably too excited after we decided you would be the godfather who'd name our child.
Siegfried: That's a pretty big responsibility.
Kriemhild: I'm sorry though.
Siegfried: It's nothing to apologize for.
Kriemhild bows her head and continues talking without meeting his eyes.
Kriemhild: Not for that. I'm the one who suggested he find a job that wouldn't be dangerous.
Kriemhild: He's quitting because of me.
Siegfried: So that's what happened.
Kriemhild: Please don't blame him for abandoning you.
Siegfried: On the contrary, I hold nothing but gratitude toward him.
Kriemhild: Hehe... Then I thank you for your support.
Siegfried: Heh... Thank you for supporting him.
A peaceful silence settles over them. Kriemhild eventually interrupts it with a large, noisy stretch.
Kriemhild: I'm going to miss the three of us talking about everything and nothing like this...
Kriemhild: But I guess we're only moving to Burgundy, so it's not like we won't see each other again.
Siegfried: Right. Let's meet again sometime.
Kriemhild: It's a promise then.
Siegfried: A promise it is.
With this promise made, they bid each other farewell.
Days and weeks pass. As usual, Siegfried speaks with King Josef.
Siegfried: Everyone saw Gunther and Kriemhild off this morning before they left the kingdom.
King Josef: So they've left. I must say I'm sad to see them go.
Siegfried: As am I.
King Josef: Heh, I must say, the impression you leave with people has changed quite a bit compared to how you were before you joined us.
King Josef: I wonder if all these meetings and partings are the cause?
Siegfried: Have I truly changed that much? I don't really feel any different.
King Josef: Think about it. They saved their goodbyes to you for last, out of everyone they knew.
Siegfried: They did?
King Josef: Yes, you who they only came to know after you became a citizen of this kingdom.
King Josef: You should treasure this connection you have with them. Water and care for it as you would a garden.
Siegfried: Understood.
King Josef: That aside, have you finally decided on a name for the child?
Siegfried: I've been worrying over it for a quite a while.
Siegfried: But I'm thinking of going with "Licht."
King Josef: Licht, eh? That is a good name.
Siegfried: Is it really? Well, if it has your stamp of approval, then I'll write a letter right away and inform them with confidence.
King Josef: Heh... I hope they like it.
Siegfried: I hope so as well.
The king and his knight continue chatting with one another, enjoying a brief moment of respite from their duties.
But time passes once more, and with it a rebellion arises in Burgundy.
That is the same day Lancelot and Percival become vice-captains of the Order of the Black Dragons.

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 4: Yesteryear - Episode 3

As Siegfried awakens in a mysterious research facility, Gunther speaks of the day of the rebellion in Burgundy. With Siegfried hot on his trail, the rebel leader had fled into a civilian home and taken hostages, which happened to be Gunther and his family. After injuring Gunther and Kriemhild and inflicting a fatal wound upon their young son Licht, the man flees, leaving the house in blazes. Gunther and his family disappear in the flames.

Siegfried: Ugh...
Gunther: Finally awake?
Siegfried takes in the sight of what appears to be an underground research facility before his eyes settle on Gunther.
Siegfried: Gunther...
Gunther: You really think you have the time to be dreaming when I'm about to give you a glimpse of hell?
Siegfried: Why are you doing this?
Gunther: Why? You already know the answer, don't you?
Gunther: I lost everything that day.
He stares up into nothingness and begins to speak of events long past.
On the day Lancelot and Percival receive their titles as vice-captains of the Black Dragons, a rebellion breaks out in Burgundy.
The captain and his knights march to quell the unrest, steadily approaching the place where Gunther and Kriemhild were supposed to live a peaceful, quiet life.
Siegfried had even received a letter from them inviting him to visit mere days before the fighting started.
As soon as they arrive, the battle between rebels and knights begins, but Siegfried leaves the battlefield behind to chase the rebel leader on horseback.
Siegfried: Hold it!
Rebel Leader: Damn it. I underestimated you, Siegfried.
Rebel Leader: To think a single horseman penetrated our stronghold's defenses...
With all the desperation of a person being hunted down, he smashes open the door of a citizen's house and rushes in.
Rebel Leader: Listen up! Don't you dare get any closer!
The deranged man grabs an injured citizen from within and uses her as a shield.
Kriemhild: Ah!
Gunther: Siegfried?
Siegfried: ...!
Gunther! Kriemhild!
By some cruel twist of fate, Gunther and Kriemhild are held at the rebel's mercy, both of them covered head to toe in injuries.
Rebel Leader: What's this? You know these people?
Siegfried: Don't drag innocent people into this!
Rebel Leader: Drag, huh? Is that how a knight of justice sees it?
Rebel Leader: You people are all the same, thinking yourselves to be right all the time and justifying your actions because of it.
Rebel Leader: Well, look what you've done now. You dragged these people into it as soon as you came here with your justice!
Siegfried: Gunther, Kriemhild, I swear I'll save you both.
Rebel Leader: Try something clever, I dare you! I'll kill them as soon as you do!
Rebel Leader: If you take even one step closer...
He starts edging toward the back exit with Kriemhild held hostage in his arms.
Gunther: Siegfried, please...
Kriemhild: Help us.
Rebel Leader: Don't move!
Siegfried: ...
Siegfried: (I have to look for an opportunity to help them escape.)
The sound of movement from an adjacent room catches everyone's attention.
???: Mama? Papa? Where are you?
Kriemhild: Licht! Don't come in here!
Licht: Mama!
Rebel Leader: Tch. You guys have a brat too?
A young child comes into the room despite Kriemhild's warning.
Rebel Leader: You better keep quiet, you stupid brat.
Cripes, just when I thought this couldn't get worse. Nothing I hate more than little rodents.
Licht: Mama!
Licht cries and runs for Kriemhild.
Rebel Leader: I told you to shut up, didn't I? Stupid kid!
Still grasping onto Kriemhild tightly, the leader brutally kicks the child away.
Licht: Nngh!
Kriemhild: Licht!
Siegfried: You bastard!
Rebel Leader: Don't you move! If you do, I'll kill her too! I swear I will!
Licht: Urgh...
No one notices the lamp knocked onto the floor from the rebel's violent kick until it's too late.
The fire spreads to a nearby cloth, and in the blink of an eye the entire room is set ablaze.
Rebel Leader: Cough, cough!
Siegfried: Damn it.
Siegfried: (Being backed into a corner only made him more reckless.)
Gunther: Hey, are you okay?
Gunther: Licht!
Licht: ...
Kriemhild: Ah... Aahh... Aaahhh, Licht!
Rebel Leader: Shut up already!
Kriemhild: Ah!
Siegfried: Stop it!
Rebel Leader: You shut up too, or watch her die!
Gunther: Have mercy, please... I beg of you...
Siegfried: I swear I'll save her.
Siegfried: (What can I do against someone like this?)
Yanking Kriemhild's hands behind her back and dragging her with him, the leader reaches the back exit.
Rebel Leader: Time to say goodbye!
Kriemhild: Agh—
Siegfried: Watch out!
The leader tosses Kriemhild aside, but Siegfried manages to catch her before she hits the floor.
Rebel Leader: Heh... You better hurry or she'll bleed out!
He leaps out the exit and doesn't look back.
Siegfried: Halt!
Siegfried: (I can't give chase. These three are more important.)
Kriemhild: Wheeze, wheeze... Cough!
Siegfried: ...!
Are you okay, Kriemhild?
Ignoring both Siegfried and the deep wound in her back, Kriemhild stumbles to Licht's side.
Kriemhild: Licht, my Licht, no...
Gunther is already kneeling silently by their child.
Siegfried: Gunther—
Gunther: There's no fixing a broken neck.
Kriemhild: No! Licht!
Whether from shock or from her wounds, she collapses unconscious to the floor.
Siegfried: Damn it all!
The flames lick the edges of the room. Soon enough they will swallow the remaining people in the home.
Siegfried: Gunther, get up! We have to move now!
The silent Gunther casts his gaze at Siegfried, his empty eyes reflecting the roaring blaze.
Gunther: You know, Siegfried?
Gunther: All we wanted to do was live our lives in peace and quiet.
Siegfried: What are you doing? Stop talking and stand!
Gunther: So why did this happen to us?
Siegfried pulls at his friend's arm, but Gunther's lifeless form doesn't react.
Gunther: Did we do something wrong, Siegfried?
Gunther: Or is there something wrong with the world?
Siegfried: ...!
The knight pulls and pulls, but they are out of time.
A flaming beam comes crashing down and separates Siegfried from his friends.
Siegfried: No! Get out of there!
Gunther: Ahh...
Siegfried: Don't let yourself die here! You have to live, Gunther!
Gunther staggers to his feet with Kriemhild and Licht in his arms and stands unmoving while the fire consumes them.
Gunther: Farewell, Siegfried.
Siegfried: Guntheeer!
Siegfried tries to dive back into the fire to save the family.
But the Black Dragon knights waiting outside grab onto him and hold him back.
As he desperately struggles in their grasp, the knights inform him that Lancelot and Percival need help.
Siegfried, faced with this bitter dilemma, turns his back on the roaring fire and leaves to aid his knights.

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 4: Yesteryear - Episode 4

Having learned that Kriemhild and Licht both perished that day, Siegfried assumes responsibility and appeals to Gunther to take out his revenge on him and him alone. Gunther begins to chant a mysterious spell, causing Siegfried to scream and writhe in agony.

Gunther: This world holds no meaning for me anymore.
Siegfried: What happened to Kriemhild and Licht?
Gunther: They died.
Siegfried: Then the responsibility for their deaths lies with me.
Siegfried: I am so sorry.
Gunther: If my wife and child had been saved that day, maybe things would be different now.
Gunther: But it's too late for what-ifs.
Siegfried: Gunther, you don't have to keep acting like this and hurting other people.
Siegfried: If you despise me, then kill me and end all this.
Gunther: That's not the issue.
Gunther: You see, you came trampling after the rebel leader because the justice of our beloved country demanded it.
Gunther: But those rebels took up arms because they wanted their own justice, right?
Gunther: Your justice, their justice, it's all the same to me.
Siegfried: ...
Gunther: Because in the end, the weak always suffer at the hands of the strong, and we can't do anything except curse our helplessness.
Gunther: It's only fair you get a taste of it too. What say you, Siegfried?
Siegfried: If that's what you want, then do it. I'll take whatever you dish out.
Siegfried: But you won't lay a hand on anyone else in exchange.
Gunther: Heh heh heh. Time to serve you your fill then.
With a sickening smile on his face, Gunther begins to chant.
Siegfried: Agh! Argghh!
Siegfried's screams echo far and wide as he writhes in agony.
But his cries are heard by no one else.

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 5: Hopelessness - Episode 1

Lancelot and the others return to the royal capital and report the situation to King Carl. The king orders Lancelot to rescue Siegfried, and (Captain)'s crew and Percival eagerly offer their assistance as well. Upon receiving a letter from Aglovale mentioning disturbances in a nearby leyline, the group sets out at once to investigate, believing it to be connected.

At around the same time Gunther and Siegfried are having their conversation, Lancelot and the others speak with King Carl in the capital.
Lancelot: According to Arthur and Mordred, the man was named Gunther.
King Carl: I can't believe the former captain of the Royal Knights is responsible for this abrupt attack.
King Carl: Though I'm curious as to why he reappeared after all this time and what he's planning.
Lancelot: We're still uncertain as to what his goals are.
Lancelot: But although our main target escaped, we managed to repel the dragon attacks, and they seem to have retreated for now.
King Carl: Good work. However, there is still the matter of rescuing an invaluable citizen of our country.
King Carl: Lancelot, how do you feel about securing Siegfried as your next task?
Lancelot: It would be my honor.
Vyrn: You can count on us to help get him back!
Lyria: He's important to us too!
Percival: Gunther poses a threat not only to Feendrache but also to the surrounding kingdoms.
Percival: As such, it is my responsibility to assist with this matter as well.
King Carl: Thank you. Though it's happening a little too often for my liking, I am deeply grateful for your continuous aid.
King Carl: Please save Siegfried.
  1. Leave it to us!

Choose: Leave it to us!
Their audience with King Carl finished, the knights and (Captain)'s crew gather in the castle's meeting room to discuss their next steps.
Lancelot: We have to figure out where Siegfried is first, but we don't have much to go on.
Percival: Blindly searching for him would only be a waste of time.
Lancelot: The only clue I can think of is the magic circle from when Gunther summoned the dragons. It seemed very familiar, but I don't know why.
Vane: Dragons and magic circles, huh? You don't think it's the same circle we saw when we fought that bony-bones dragon, do you?
Lancelot: That's exactly it, Vane! It was strikingly similar to the patterns that appeared on the shrine when the bone dragon emerged.
Percival: Hmm. I wouldn't dismiss the possibility of that incident being related to Gunther.
Percival: The most information we can safely glean from this is that Gunther might be found in some sort of research facility for magic.
While Lancelot and the others discuss matters, Arthur and Mordred stand off to the side by themselves, bearing mournful expressions.
Arthur: Siegfried would've been fine if we hadn't gotten in his way!
Mordred: We're the lamest knights ever, butting in like that and making things worse...
Percival walks up and joins the dejected youths in their corner of the room.
Percival: Arthur, Mordred, a moment of your time.
Arthur & Mordred: Yes, sir.
Percival: Though I retired as a knight of Feendrache long ago, I'll give you some still-applicable advice.
Percival: Instead of wasting your time regretting your past actions, why don't you think about what you should do next as a knight of your country?
Percival: You could start by giving us information. You were with Gunther for a time. Did you notice or learn anything about him?
Arthur and Mordred freeze up at Percival's harsh words.
Arthur: We'll... let you know if we remember anything.
Mordred: Understood. We'll think about what else we can do too.
Percival: Good. But before you go doing anything reckless again, make sure to come to us for help.
Percival leaves, and in his place Vane appears.
Vane: You two okay? Arthur, Mordred?
Arthur: Yeah, we're fine.
Vane: You know, Percy may be a little spiky on the outside, but inside he's a real fluffball.
Mordred: Percy?
Vane: Oh, uhhh, forget you heard that!
Vane: I said "Percival," okay? Hahaha!
Just then, a messenger from Wales rushes into the room.
Wales Messenger: I have a sealed letter from Sir Aglovale addressed to Sir Lancelot, Captain of the Order of the White Dragons.
The messenger hands the letter to Lancelot and departs.
Percival: From my brother? Lancelot, what does it say?
Lancelot: At least let me open it first. Let's see here...
Aglovale: We've come across an interesting piece of information through the use of Wales' intelligence network.
Aglovale: Their report confirmed a disturbance in the leyline flowing at the border between our countries.
Aglovale: Enclosed is the location of these disturbances. You would do well to investigate them with haste.
Lancelot: A disturbance in the leyline? That can't be a coincidence.
Percival: A leyline contains a large concentration of energy, including magic power, so it would be a suitable location for a facility regarding magic.
Vane: So basically we'll find Gunther and Siegfried wherever this place is!
Percival: Our chances aren't guaranteed, but it's a good bet.
Lancelot: Then that's where we should begin our search!
Percival: Yes... I agree.
Lancelot: We'll need a decent amount of manpower to cover so much ground.
Lancelot: Perhaps it might be a good idea to pick a few elite knights from the White Dragons to help.
Vyrn: If that's the plan, then we'll pitch in too!
Lyria: We have to find Siegfried before something else happens to him!
  1. Yeah, let's hurry!

Choose: Yeah, let's hurry!
Lancelot: What will you do, Vane?
Vane: I'll stay here with Arthur and Mordred and see if there isn't something else we can do to help.
Arthur: Please save Siegfried.
Mordred: We're counting on you!
Lancelot & Percival: Leave it to us.
  1. We've got this.

Choose: We've got this.
They set out soon after, leaving Vane and the others to hold the fort.

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 5: Hopelessness - Episode 2

Together with the White Dragons, (Captain) and company make their way toward the location of the leyline, where they encounter Siegfried. But something seems amiss, and he roars and attacks the group. Unable to get through to him with words, (Captain) and the others have no choice but to use force.

Lancelot and company march for the border in search of a research facility, but something else finds them first.
Siegfried: ...
Lancelot: Everyone, wait. Is that...
Percival: Siegfried?
Vyrn: He escaped on his own? Looks like we didn't need to do anythin' after all.
Lyria: Something doesn't seem right though.
Siegfried: Grrr... Groaaar!
White Dragon 1: Eep!
With inhuman speed, Siegfried rushes at a nearby knight.
  1. Watch out!

Choose: Watch out!
Siegfried: Groar!
(Captain) jumps between them at the last second.
White Dragon 1: Y-you saved me.
Lancelot: Thanks for your help, (Captain).
Siegfried: Grrr... Graah...
Lancelot: Siegfried! It's me! Lancelot!
Siegfried: Guh... Gurrgh!
A strange glint shines in Siegfried's eyes.
Percival: Lancelot, I think it's safe to say he's lost control of himself.
Lancelot: The rest of you, get back!
White Dragon 1: Y-yes, sir!
Percival: We'll take care of this. Lancelot, (Captain), with me!
Lancelot: We'll stop him!
  1. Understood!

Choose: Understood!
Vyrn: I don't really get what's goin' on, but I guess we've gotta fight!
Lyria: I'll provide some backup!

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 5: Hopelessness - Episode 2: Scene 2

(Captain) and company are unable to defeat the mighty Siegfried, and a sense of unrest spreads through the White Dragon knights. Just then, Gunther appears and announces his plan to have Siegfried destroy Feendrache and his friends by his own hand. Siegfried attacks again at Gunther's command, but the next thing they know he is encased in ice.

Siegfried: Groooaaar!
Lancelot: Argh!
Percival: Ugh...
  1. He's strong...

Choose: He's strong...
It comes as no surprise that Siegfried is a tough opponent, but none of them expected to be defeated so soundly.
Vyrn: This is lookin' real rough! Lyria, can't you do somethin' about him?
Lyria: Huff... Huff...
I don't sense the power of a primal beast inside him, so I don't think I can calm him down!
White Dragon 1: Not even the whole lot of us can put a dent in him.
White Dragon 2: This is the former captain of the Black Dragons we're talking about! There's no way we can deal with this...
Lancelot: Ugh... We're losing morale, and fast.
Percival: Yes, but that will be the least of our problems if we don't figure out something soon.
Siegfried: Grooaar!
Gunther: Wait a moment, Siegfried.
Siegfried: Gurgh!
An unwelcome face appears next to the roaring Siegfried.
Gunther: Heh heh heh... He's always had the strength of a beast, wouldn't you say?
Lancelot: Gunther! You're the one responsible for this, aren't you!
Percival: What did you do to him!
Gunther: Do? Not much.
Siegfried: Agh! Argghh!
Gunther: I'll just stimulate the blood of Fafnir that runs through you.
Gunther: Not that you're listening anymore.
Siegfried: Grrr...
Gunther: That's right. Who's a good boy?
Lancelot: What do you aim to achieve by doing this?
Gunther: Isn't it obvious?
Gunther: I'm going to have Siegfried destroy his beloved country and comrades with his own two hands.
Percival: You... You're worse than scum.
Gunther: Heh heh heh.
Gunther: (Everything will be over once we reach the capital.)
Gunther has plenty of time to gloat as Lancelot and the others stand unmoving.
White Dragon 1: Th-there's no way we can beat a monster like this!
White Dragon 2: Nobody in the capital will be safe from him!
Despair grips the knights as they watch this situation unfold.
Lancelot: Everyone calm down! We'll handle this!
Lancelot: (But we can't hold back if we want to take Siegfried out.)
Vyrn: Darn it! This ain't lookin' good, (Captain)!
Lyria: What do we do, (Captain)?
  1. There has to be something!

Choose: There has to be something!
Percival: Lancelot, (Captain), defeat is inevitable if we keep fighting defensively.
Lancelot: I know. I'm trying to come up with a new plan.
Gunther: Time's a-wasting, so if you insist on getting in my way, I'll just feed you to my pet.
Gunther: Go, boy! It's dinner time!
Siegfried: Grooaaar!
Siegfried obediently surges forward at Gunther's command.
But he doesn't make it very far.
???: Freeze.
Siegfried: Gurgh!
In a flash, Siegfried is encased entirely in ice.

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 5: Hopelessness - Episode 3

It turns out that Siegfried had been frozen by Aglovale's ice magic. Aglovale explains that he had been in the area investigating the leyline and offers to join (Captain) in fighting Siegfried. As the reinvigorated White Dragons challenge Gunther, Lancelot and Percival begin formulating a strategy to save Siegfried.

Moments before Siegfried can strike, his body is frozen over.
Gunther: What! What happened!
Percival: Someone froze him with ice magic!
???: It's rather sad to see you all standing here like a row of dominoes waiting to be toppled.
Percival: Aglovale!
Lancelot: Why are you here?
Nobody can contain their astonishment at this new arrival.
Aglovale not in crew

The man's name is Aglovale, and he serves as the current king of Wales. He is also Percival's older brother.
Aglovale: What? Is it really so surprising that we came to check on our findings?
Gunther: Damn you! I know that ice magic. You're Aglovale of Wales!
Aglovale: The one and only.
Gunther: Why did you save these idiots!
Aglovale: Hah... Save? Don't make me laugh, scum.
Aglovale: I just happened upon this amusing display and decided to join in on the festivities.
Vyrn: You just happened upon us after writin' that letter, huh?
Lyria: Hehe... It's kind of reassuring to see him act the same as always.
At that moment, a squadron of out-of-breath troops come running up behind Aglovale.
Wales Soldier 1: Huff... Huff...
King Aglovale!
Wales Soldier 2: Your Majesty, it's quite troubling for you to rush off on your own!
Aglovale: Hmph. My apologies.
Aglovale: However, you'll only get in my way. Stand back.
Wales Soldiers: Yes, Your Majesty!
His own troops taken care of, Aglovale turns to the rest of the group.
Aglovale: Especially you lot. What happened to that strength you showed when we fought? Or was that all a stroke of luck?
Aglovale: Percival, I expected better of you. Hesitating because he was once your superior officer is unbecoming.
Percival: I wasn't—
Aglovale: Lancelot. You're the leader of a knightly order tasked with protecting your country, are you not? Then do your job and eliminate all threats to your people.
Lancelot: Urk...
Aglovale: And you, (Captain).
Aglovale: You should put Siegfried out of his misery before he shames himself any further.
  1. I refuse!

Choose: I refuse!
Aglovale: Heh. I see you haven't changed your softhearted ways.
Aglovale: But enough of that. Shall we put on a show?
Siegfried: Groooaaar!
Siegfried howls with anger as he finally escapes his icy prison.
Gunther: Y-you did it, Siegfried! Now go! Kill them all!
Aglovale: Siegfried...
Aglovale: (I don't know what happened to you, but I refuse to stand by and watch this pitiful display.)
Aglovale: Lancelot, Percival. Figure something out while I hold him back.
Percival: U-understood!
Lancelot: Thank you for your help!
Aglovale: (Captain), would you mind assisting me?
  1. Not at all!

Choose: Not at all!
Vyrn: Okay, (Captain)! Let's do this!
Lyria: Aglovale! We'll help too!
Aglovale: Heh... You vassals are as lively as ever.
Gunther: Aglovale! You're an idiot if you think you can do anything here!
Before Gunther can arrogantly boast any further, a swarm of White Dragon knights charge directly at him.
White Dragon 1: Our leaders are doing their best!
White Dragon 2: So we've gotta do what we can too!
White Dragon 1: We'll be your opponents, Gunther!
White Dragon 2: Captain Lancelot! We're counting on you!
Lancelot: You have my thanks!
Aglovale: Hmph.
Aglovale: (These knights are more spirited than I gave them credit for, coming back from such low morale.)
With that thought, Aglovale calmly approaches Siegfried's menacing form.
Aglovale: Well, I've kept you waiting long enough.
Siegfried: Grrr...
Aglovale: Shall we play together again for old times' sake?
Siegfried: Groooar!

SIEGFRIED - Chapter 5: Hopelessness - Episode 4

While Aglovale and (Captain) keep Siegfried busy, Lancelot and Percival realize their friend is likely being controlled by the blood of Fafnir within him. As a result, they are able to use the same technique they employed to seal Fafnir in order to bring Siegfried back to his senses. Deciding not to pursue the fleeing Gunther just yet, they bid farewell to Aglovale and return to Feendrache.

Siegfried: Groooaaar!
Aglovale: How dull. Power is useless without finesse.
Aglovale: (Captain), let's show him how it's done!
  1. Right behind you!

Choose: Right behind you!
Aglovale: Haaah!
  1. Haaah!

Choose: Haaah!
Siegfried: Gurgh!
Aglovale and (Captain) perfectly suppress Siegfried's movements.
Aglovale: Lancelot, Percival, both of you better be ready!
Lancelot & Percival: We are!
By that response, Aglovale and (Captain) hope they've bought enough time.
Whatever the knights frantically thought up needs to be enough to save Siegfried.
Lancelot: Starting with what we've observed, we know Gunther used a magic circle to summon those dragons before.
Percival: Which means there's a high probability that Siegfried is being affected by some sort of magic.
Percival: Moreover, it seemed as though those wyverns were being controlled like puppets.
Lancelot: If that's the case, then do you think Siegfried is being controlled because of his dragon powers?
Percival: There's no guarantee, but I'm almost sure of it.
Percival: He has the blood of the dragon Fafnir coursing through his veins, doesn't he?
Lancelot: Yes. He doesn't talk about it much, but I believe that's the case.
Percival: Removing the magic that's affecting him won't be easy.
Percival: But there is a way to do it if the problem truly is Fafnir's dragon blood.
Lancelot: The dragon sealing technique!
Percival: Exactly. Perhaps Fafnir's power will subside if we perform it.
Lancelot: It's definitely worth trying!
Percival: I'd say it's our best bet.
Lancelot: I kind of remember what we did back when we helped seal Fafnir.
Lancelot: How about you? Think we can do it on the fly?
Percival: Hmph, have you forgotten who you're talking to?
With not a moment to waste, the two of them begin drawing a magic circle beneath their feet.
Gunther: (I know that circle!)
Gunther: You think I'll let youuu!
Aglovale: (Captain)! I can freeze Siegfried, so leave him to me!
Aglovale: Just don't let that other scum get close!
  1. You can count on me!

Choose: You can count on me!
(Captain) leaps forward and stops Gunther right in his tracks.
Gunther: Get out of my waaay!
Aglovale: Lancelot, Percival!
Aglovale: Do it now!
Lancelot & Percival: Haaah!
Lancelot and Percival send their magic flowing into the circle they've drawn.
As they do so, a magic circle appears directly beneath Siegfried.
Siegfried: Guh! Grooar!
A pillar of blinding light engulfs his body, and he roars in pain.
In the next instant, Siegfried collapses to the ground, completely devoid of energy.
Lancelot: Siegfried!
Percival: Are you all right, Siegfried!
Siegfried: Lancelot, Percival...
The strange glint in his eyes is gone.
Gunther: You're kidding me... They reversed the dragon transformation!
Aglovale: Good grief, they actually made it in time.
Aglovale: And here I was about to send him off with his last rites.
Percival: Brother, we are most grateful for your timely assistance.
Lancelot: Words cannot express the extent of our gratitude.

Aglovale: Hmph. I've done nothing worthy of thanks.
Aglovale: This was simply a preventative measure against something that could effect Wales.
Aglovale: (I already owed you all a debt for restoring peace to both myself and my country. This is my way of repaying that debt.)
Aglovale: Now that the entertainment's over, it's time to return home.
    Wales Soldiers: Yes, Your Majesty!
Saying nothing more than that, Aglovale turns nonchalantly around and makes his exit.
    Gunther: You bastards... Urgh!
Gunther tries to beat a hasty retreat as well, having seen the tables turned so quickly.
White Dragon 1: Halt! You're not getting away!
    Lancelot: Don't chase him!
    White Dragon 2: But—
Lancelot: Taking care of everyone's injuries comes first.
Lancelot: We should return to the capital and regroup.
    White Dragons: Yes, sir!
The knights have avoided the worst-case scenario thanks to Aglovale's assistance.
Rather than chase after the fleeing Gunther, they prioritize bringing the unconscious Siegfried back home.

    SIEGFRIED - Chapter 6: Resolution - Episode 1

Siegfried dreams of the night before the Fafnir suppression force departed, when Kriemhild had asked him to look after Gunther. After awakening, Siegfried tells a relieved (Captain) and company about his past with Gunther. He asks to speak with his old friend one last time, and they begin formulating a battle strategy with that in mind.

Kriemhild: I know this is a long shot, but is there any way you can stop the Fafnir suppression force from going tomorrow?
Siegfried: I was wondering what you wanted to talk about, but that's quite the conversation starter.
Siegfried: You know as well as I do that's not possible. Every citizen in Feendrache prays for its defeat.
Siegfried: His Majesty would never be able to show his face again if the operation was called off.
    Kriemhild: I know that, but...
The night before the Fafnir suppression force is set to leave, Kriemhild asks Siegfried to join her at their usual tavern.
Siegfried: Why did you ask me for such a thing anyway?
Kriemhild: I just have this sinking feeling that Hagen is up to something awful.
    Siegfried: Isn't he always?
Kriemhild: He is, but something feels especially off about this.
Siegfried: There's nothing to worry about. He's never played a trick we couldn't beat.
Kriemhild: Well, if you're so convinced, I guess I don't have much else to say.
Kriemhild: Just be careful around Hagen, okay?
    Siegfried: I know.
Siegfried: But why speak to me about this and not Gunther?
Kriemhild: His head's stuffed so full of preparations for Fafnir that he doesn't have room for anything else in there.
Kriemhild: That's why I want you to look out for him and bail him out when he gets into trouble.
Siegfried: Of course I will. No matter what happens, I'll always be there to save him.
Kriemhild: Oho? That was a pretty smooth line!
Kriemhild: Anybody would fall for you if you said that to them!
Siegfried: Now's not the time to be joking around. Is that all you wanted to discuss?
Kriemhild: Yeah, that's all. Sorry for calling you here when you're so busy.
Siegfried: Don't be. You're always helping me out.
Kriemhild: I'll do what I can and look into Hagen's activities myself. If I find anything, I'll let you know.
Siegfried: Thank you. I'll see you later then.
Kriemhild: See you. You better come back alive, you hear me?
Siegfried stands with a nod and starts walking to the door. Kriemhild calls out to his back before he exits.
Kriemhild: That idiot likes to pretend he's so cool and tries to do everything by himself when he actually doesn't know what he's doing!
Kriemhild: But I'm pretty sure he trusts you a lot, Siegfried.
Kriemhild: So please take care of him!
Kriemhild: You're the only one who can out there!
Siegfried: Heh. You can count on me.
Fist raised, he gives his answer without looking behind and departs.
    Siegfried: Urgh... Where am I?
Siegfried regains consciousness, recognizing the castle's infirmary walls and the anxious faces of his friends.
    Lancelot: Siegfried!
Vane: Phew! Looks like the medicine finally kicked in.
    Siegfried: Lancelot? Vane?
Percival: Is your body back to normal?
Siegfried: Even Percival? Yes, I feel fine.
    Arthur: Ahhh! We're so sorry!
Mordred: We're sorry! This is all our fault...
Siegfried: Please don't apologize. I'm completely fine, as you can see.
Vyrn: I mean, now you're fine, but you sure gave us one heckuva a heart attack back there.
Lyria: But everyone's safe now, and that's the most important thing.
    1. Welcome back.

    Choose: Welcome back.
    Siegfried: Thanks, (Captain).
Siegfried: Seems I've developed a habit of causing trouble for you.
Lancelot: I'm sorry to interrupt the happy reunion, but I think it'd be best to catch you up to speed.
    Siegfried: Go right ahead.
Lancelot proceeds to give a thorough report on what transpired since Siegfried was taken.
Siegfried: So Aglovale came to my aid.
Siegfried: (I'll have to properly thank him later.)
Siegfried is overcome with remorse for the harm his actions have caused.
Siegfried: I put the capital in danger, on top of causing you all so much trouble.
Siegfried: No amount of words can properly express how sorry I am.
Lancelot: You're being too hard on yourself, Siegfried.
Lancelot: Our knights understood your situation the moment they received an explanation.
Percival: Nobody blames you for what happened.
Vane: If we're gonna point fingers at anyone, it'd be at that Gunther guy! We still gotta find him!
Vyrn: Oh yeah, that jerk! Now that we've got Siegfried back, we can really show him what we're made of!
While everyone else voices their support of taking the offensive, Siegfried alone holds his tongue.
Siegfried: Actually, if you all wouldn't mind, I'd like to discuss the subject of Gunther further.
Lancelot: Of course! We're already strategizing the best way to take him down, so now's the perfect time!
Percival: I propose an immediate assault on his hideout before he has the chance to regroup.
Vane: Dunno how we're gonna be able to find that hideout though!
Siegfried: That won't be a problem. I have a rough estimate of where it is.
Vyrn: You do? Wow, you're really somethin' else, Siegfried!
In contrast to his friends' excited planning, however, Siegfried remains subdued. Eventually he opens his mouth once more.
Siegfried: I... want to save Gunther.
    Lyria: Huh?
    Lancelot: Siegfried?
Siegfried: The fault lies with me for allowing Gunther to become twisted like this.
Siegfried: And I know what I'm asking for is far too much.
Siegfried: Even still, I want to save him...
Siegfried: To speak with him one more time.
This is the first time any of them have seen Siegfried come remotely close to making a request, and nobody takes the occasion lightly.
They listen carefully and quietly as Siegfried speaks of the past that he and Gunther share.
Lancelot: That's quite the history between you two.
Siegfried: I understand my request is most selfish.
A small pause stretches as everyone gathers their thoughts.
Lancelot: To be honest, resolving things by merely striking Gunther down doesn't sit right with me.
Vane: Yeah, he's a dangerous dude, but I don't think it's too late to talk him outta his ways.
Percival: What a soft-hearted lot you are. But I must agree that exchanging words with him isn't a bad idea.
Percival: Just be prepared for the worst if he refuses to speak.
    Siegfried: I am.
Lancelot: As captain of the White Dragons, I am fully prepared to do what's necessary if worse comes to worst and our country is threatened.
    Siegfried: Thank you, everyone.
Vyrn: That Gunther guy rubs me the wrong way, but I'll do it for you Siegfried!
Lyria: We'll make sure your feelings get through to him.
    1. For sure.

    Choose: For sure.
Siegfried: Then I won't waste your efforts.
Lancelot: It's decided then. I'll let His Majesty know what our plan is.
    Siegfried: Let me join you.
Lancelot begins to help Siegfried out of bed before they're stopped by the appearance of an unexpected face.
King Carl: I heard everything, Siegfried.
The king himself enters the room.
Siegfried: What? Your Majesty, what are you doing here?
King Carl: My worrying got the better of me, and my legs just carried me over.
King Carl: Then I realized you might not be able to relax and rest if I was in the room, so I decided to wait outside.
Siegfried: Your Majesty, you didn't need to.
With renewed effort at the king's appearance, Siegfried attempts again to heave himself out of bed.
King Carl: Relax, Siegfried. We can speak while you're lying down.
    Siegfried: Yes, Your Majesty.
King Carl: I'd like to start by saying that there is no doubt Gunther is a threat to Feendrache.
King Carl: And if I were a king from a previous generation, I might have demanded his immediate execution.
King Carl: However, is it justified to eliminate someone without exchanging dialogue, simply because we deemed them a threat?
King Carl: Part of the guilt also lies with me for letting him become like this.
King Carl: Regardless, a king cannot do much in these situations except for watch.
King Carl: Another king might keep careful check that his rulings are followed, but I am lucky to have subjects I can rely on.
King Carl: I trust you. That's why I will leave you to do as you wish.
King Carl: Though it may be irresponsible of me to leave this task to another, I stand by this decision.
    Lancelot: As you wish.
    Siegfried: Thank you, Your Majesty.
King Carl makes his exit, leaving them to begin preparations for their assault.
Lancelot: Our best bet is to go after him before he can make his next move.
Percival: Since we know his location, it would be prudent to take only a small, elite task force of knights with us.
Vane: That means it's my time to shine!
Percival: One mongrel won't make that much of a difference in our fighting capabilities, but it's better than nothing, I suppose.
Vane: Not that mongrel stuff again! You can't say that after you've been relying on me lately!
Percival: Letting the small things get to our heads, are we?
Vane: Fine, fine, sorry I even bothered.
Siegfried: Vane, I'm happy to see you so eager to help, but will the capital be all right without you to defend it?
Lancelot: If we leave those elite knights here instead, then there won't be an issue.
Siegfried: Hmm. Then let's leave a fortified defense in case Gunther makes a last desperate attempt at the capital.
Vyrn: Okay! Looks like the teams are set!
Lyria: Let's do our best, everyone!
Arthur and Mordred choose this moment to speak up from the edge of the room.
Arthur: Is there anything we can do to help?
Mordred: We'll do whatever it takes!
Siegfried: If you insist, I'm sure we can find something.
    Arthur: Really?
    Mordred: Awesome!
Siegfried: But this doesn't mean you've escaped discipline for disobeying orders.
Siegfried: Go talk things over with Lancelot and Vane.
    Arthur & Mordred: Yes, sir!
Lancelot: Good grief... Do either of you really understand the positions you're in?
Arthur: We're reflecting on our actions...
Mordred: Once everything's over with, we'll take any punishment you give!
Vane: Even if we let you help, it's not like we can take you with us though. Hmm.
Keeping Arthur and Mordred in mind, (Captain) and company prepare for their last confrontation with Gunther.

    SIEGFRIED - Chapter 6: Resolution - Episode 2

Siegfried uses his heightened senses resulting from the awakening of his dragon blood to lead (Captain) and company toward Gunther's hideout. Elsewhere, Team Chickadee embark on their own mission given to them by Lancelot and Vane. Meanwhile Gunther remains at his hideout, brooding as he starts to chant quietly.

After the preparations are complete, Siegfried leads everyone on the search for Gunther's hideout.
    Siegfried: This way.
    Lancelot: Roger.
Percival: Tell me, Siegfried—how do you know the way to the hideout?
Siegfried: When Gunther activated the dragon blood in my body, every one of my senses became sharper.
Siegfried: As a result, I can also feel the presence of dragons more clearly than before.
Percival: And any place with a congregation of dragons has to be Gunther's hideout. That's a good hunch.
    Vane: Wow! You're amazing, Siegfried!
Vane: You're probably gonna be the one to carry this fight to the finish, huh?
Siegfried: While it's flattering to hear you sing so much praise, I believe it's too early to predict what will happen.
    Vane: I-I guess so!
    Vane: Hoo-rahhhh!
Percival: What in the world are you doing?
Vane: Hahaha! Pumping myself up with a slap on the cheek!
Siegfried: Heh... It's nice to see you're not affected in the slightest.
Lancelot: Keeping his spirits up no matter the situation is one of his better qualities.
Lyria: Hehe... Everything's a lot nicer when all four of them are together.
Vyrn: By the way, what ended up happenin' with Arthur and Mordred?
    Lancelot: Oh, them?
Vane: We gave them a job to do.
Arthur and his friends arrive at a forest near Feendrache.
Arthur: Did you guys find anything over there?
    Tornelio: Nope. Not a thing.
    Mordred: How about you, Cruz?
    Cruz: Nothing here either.
Henry: Geez, why did I have to be dragged into this too?
Mordred: You didn't. You just tagged along.
    Arthur: Thanks for helping, Henry!
Henry: My pleasure, Arthur! As captain of the Henry Brigade, it's my duty to help you guys out!
Mordred: You must be delusional. I don't remember joining a brigade run by some kid.
Henry: Arthur! I'll have you return this favor for me later! Hahaha!
Arthur: Okay! Lemme know what you want!
Mordred: Are you two serious right now? I have enough to deal with as it is...
Tornelio: Hm? Is something wrong, Cruz?
Cruz: No, not really. I was just wondering if we're really helping the captains by doing this.
Arthur: Of course we are! But honestly, it's not like we can do much else.
Mordred: If you guys have enough time to be yapping, you can get to searching faster!
    Cruz: Okay.
As the young knights perform their duty, Gunther wastes no time in making his own preparations for the coming conflict.
Gunther: Damn it, they really messed everything up.
Gunther: It seems I don't have a choice.
He begins to quietly chant, a brooding scowl on his face all the while.

    SIEGFRIED - Chapter 6: Resolution - Episode 3

As (Captain) and company make their way toward Gunther's hideout, they feel a violent tremor in the ground. Soon they arrive at their destination to find Gunther with a confident smile on his face. (Captain), Lancelot, Percival, and Vane deal with the flight of nidhoggs he summons, while Siegfried rushes over to confront his old friend.

Close to Gunther's hideout, a tremor in the ground rocks (Captain) and company.
Vane: Whoa! Is this an earthquake?
Siegfried: No, Gunther's preparing something! We need to hurry!
    Lancelot: Right!
The group quickly follows Siegfried down into what appears to be an underground hideout.
    Siegfried: Gunther!
    Gunther: So you've come, Siegfried.
Siegfried: What is that magic circle?
    Gunther: Heh heh heh.
Siegfried: Whatever it is you're planning, we'll stop you!
Gunther: You're not taking one step closer.
Gunther: Stop them in their tracks!
    Nidhogg: Graaah!
A wave of nidhoggs descend upon their heads at Gunther's command.
Siegfried: I'll take care of Gunther!
Siegfried: You guys deal with these dragons!
    All Three: Understood!
    Vyrn: Don't forget about us!
Lyria: Yes, let's go! Come on, (Captain)!
    1. Cleanup time!

    Choose: Cleanup time!
(Captain) and company ready their weapons against Gunther and the dragons.

    SIEGFRIED - Chapter 6: Resolution - Episode 4

Siegfried hurries over to Gunther, but he is hindered by a magic circle that transforms Gunther into an enormous dragon-like creature. Siegfried tells everyone to step back as he faces Gunther alone, but Lancelot, Percival, Vane, and (Captain)'s crew refuse to retreat and instead stand to fight alongside him.

While (Captain)'s crew and the other knights handle the dragons, Siegfried faces Gunther.
    Siegfried: Gunther!
    Gunther: Siegfried! You're too late!
Siegfried: I won't let you use that circle!
Siegfried attempts to rush Gunther, but a mysterious force sends him flying back.
    Siegfried: ...!
A barrier forms from the light pouring out of the magic circle at Gunther's feet.
    Gunther: Huff... Huff...
    It's time.
Kneeling in the circle, his body suddenly rocks with violent shaking.
    Gunther: Groooaaar!
The resulting pillar of light accompanies deep tremors in the earth, causing parts of the ceiling to begin to come down.
Siegfried: We can't stay in here! Back out the exit!
    Lancelot: Roger that!
Following Siegfried's order, they scramble and retreat to safety.
    Siegfried: Everyone all right?
Percival: No one's injured, and we're all accounted for.
Vyrn: Phew, we somehow got outta there in time.
Lyria: I was really worried we wouldn't make it...
Vane: What happened to Gunther though?
    Lancelot: Hey! Look over there!
Where Lancelot points, a crack forms in the still-shaking ground, and a mound swells upward.
    Then it bursts open.
    ???: Groooaaar!
Percival: That is an enormous dragon!
Lancelot: Don't tell me that's who I think it is!
Siegfried: I have no doubt Gunther used that magic circle to turn himself into this.
Vane: You're kiddin' me! How the heck can a person just turn themselves into a dragon!
Siegfried: I wouldn't go so far as to call that a dragon. It appears the magic circle could only turn him into something resembling one.
Lyria: He looks like he's in a lot of pain...
    Gunther: Siegfriiieeed!
Siegfried: The transformation sent him into a rage as well.
    Siegfried: Everyone, stand back!
    Siegfried: Leave this to me!
As usual, Siegfried prepares to face the trial alone.
Lancelot: Siegfried, you know we're not here just to look pretty.
Percival: Trying to handle things alone again, are we?
Vane: We've grown plenty strong! So rely on us as much as you want!
Vyrn: Yeah! You still gotta talk with Gunther, right?
Lyria: We want to help you both, so please let us!
    1. Let's fight together!

    Choose: Let's fight together!
Siegfried: That's right. I almost forgot.
    Siegfried: Please, help me.
    Siegfried: Lend me your strength!
Gunther: I'll kill you, I'll kill you, I'll kill you! Siegfriiieeed!

    SIEGFRIED - Ending - Episode 1

Gunther is defeated, but Siegfried begins to show signs of morphing into a dragon himself. Just then, Team Chickadee appears with the alma they were asked to retrieve. They use it to successfully prevent Siegfried's transformation, but Gunther's mutated form fails to return to normal. Siegfried then requests to speak with Gunther privately.

    Gunther: You bastaaard!
    All Four: Haaah!
The three knights and (Captain) push Gunther to his limits and keep him occupied.
But Gunther doesn't take their attacks lying down and uses the last of his strength to desperately fight back.
    Gunther: Groooar!
An ear-splitting roar echoes through the air, mingled with the sound of brutal fighting.
    Siegfried: Huff... Huff...
    Siegfried: I will... finish this!
Siegfried closes in on his target, determined not to let the opportunity pass by.
    Gunther: Siegfrieeed!
    Siegfried: Guntheeer!
    They clash, both sides unrelenting.
However, Siegfried is not afraid to risk his own life, and with his next attack, he strikes Gunther to the ground.
    Gunther: Guh...
    Siegfried: Huff... Huff...
Siegfried: Now that you've calmed down, we can finally have a chat.
In the next instant, Siegfried collapses to the ground, his body convulsing.
    Siegfried: Urgh...
    Siegfried: Grrr... Groooar...
As if fighting off a possession, he writhes around wildly.
Gunther watches this unfold with unconcealed glee.
Gunther: Heh heh heh. Welcome to my side.
    Lancelot: Siegfried!
    Siegfried: Groooar...
    Gunther: There's no resisting this.
Gunther: Once you turn, you can never go back.
Percival: Siegfried! Get ahold of yourself!
    Siegfried: Hurry... do...
    Siegfried: Before... turn... kill me...
Vane: This can't be happening! Siegfried!
    Siegfried: Do... now!
    Vyrn: What do we do?
    Lyria: I don't know...
    1. It's too early to give up!

Choose: It's too early to give up!
Unbidden, the memory of Siegfried's previous words flow into the three knights' minds.
Lancelot: The man who emerges victorious...
Percival: Is the man who continues struggling...
    Vane: Until the bitter end.
Lancelot: Exactly. Everyone, prepare to use the dragon sealing technique!
    Percival: Right!
    Vane: You got it!
Forgoing any discussion about the details, they begin to draw a magic circle around Siegfried.
Gunther: There's no point trying. Stop wasting your time.
    Siegfried: Run... away...
With the circle complete, the three knights stand prepared to start.
    Lancelot: Ready?
    Percival: Yes! Do it!
Lancelot and Percival pour all of their magical energy into the circle and activate it.
    Siegfried: Agh!
    Vane: Use my energy too!
    Lyria: Mine too!
    Vyrn: Count me in!
    1. Don't forget me!

    Choose: Don't forget me!
As the two knights chant, everyone else contributes their own magical energy in an effort to help.
    Siegfried: Graaah!
    Gunther: It's over. Give up.
For the time being, they manage to stall Siegfried's transformation as they continue to focus on the circle.
    Lancelot: You hanging on, Percival?
Percival: Oh, please. I should be the one asking you that!
Gunther: He should be reaching his limit soon.
    Siegfried: Groooar!
But Siegfried isn't the only one. Everyone else reaches their limits as well, and the effect of the circle slowly fades away.
Lancelot: Is that all we've got?
    Percival: He's too powerful!
Just as their hope threatens to fade, however, reinforcements burst into the scene.
    Arthur: Captain Lancelot!
Mordred: Sorry to keep you waiting!
Team Chickadee slides into the fray.
They had rushed over immediately after finishing their assigned duty.
Only a little while ago, they had been visiting an old woman's home located in a forest near the capital.
Arthur: Are you sure you don't want money or anything?
Old Woman: I'm sure. Please, take it.
Tornelio: There's no need to be polite. The Order would be more than happy to compensate you.
Old Woman: Thank you, my cute little knight, but I don't have any family to leave the money to.
Old Woman: Besides, outliving others is not something I'm interested in either.
Old Woman: I'd like to pass on naturally when my time comes.
    Cruz: ...
Henry: In that case, the Order of the White Dragons most graciously accepts your kind donation.
Old Woman: Heheh. Nothing would make me happier than to help the knights of our country with this alma.
Mordred: We're really grateful for all your help.
And so they receive the alma free of charge from the old woman.
    Siegfried: Groooaaar!
Lancelot: Hurry and give Siegfried the alma!
    Arthur & Mordred: Yes, sir!
They understand the direness of the situation from Lancelot's curt command alone.
Without batting an eye at Siegfried's fearsome form, the two rush to give him the medicine.
Arthur: Siegfried, sorry we took so long!
    Siegfried: Groooar!
Mordred: Please! Go back to being the kind Siegfried we all know and love!
Siegfried's convulsions cease as soon as the alma enters his mouth.
    Calm washes over his limbs.
    Gunther: Impossible!
Gunther's protest is directed at the apparent reversal of the transformation across Siegfried's body.
    Siegfried: Huff... Huff... Cough!
Along with this miracle, the knight comes back to his senses.
Siegfried: Looks like you did it. You saved me.
    Lancelot: Siegfried!
Percival: Good grief, I hope you're sorted now.
Vane: I was this close to panicking!
Siegfried: Thanks to you all, it appears my dragon transformation has reverted for the moment.
    Gunther: How can this be!
    Tornelio: Ahhh! D-don't eat me!
Henry: What the heck is this monster!
Arthur: Whoa, it looks super strong!
Mordred: Wait a sec, is this huge dragon who I think it is?
    Cruz: ...
Siegfried: We can speak in detail later. For now, please give him some alma too.
    Lancelot: Understood.
Lancelot takes the alma and walks up to their foe.
Gunther: Stay back or I'll kill you!
    Siegfried: Stop squirming.
Siegfried: Lancelot, let me do it.
The alma passes hands a second time, and Siegfried forcefully administers it to Gunther.
    Gunther: No!
As the alma takes effect, Gunther shows signs of calming down, though his body remains in its dragon-like form.
Gunther: The change to my body is irreversible.
    Siegfried: So I see.
Discouraged by this revelation, Siegfried watches as Gunther moves closer to him.
    Gunther: Siegfried, you...
Siegfried: Will you speak with me now?
    Gunther: ...
    Fine.
Siegfried turns to his comrades and expresses his wishes one more time.
Siegfried: I'm sorry, but can I speak with him privately?
Lancelot: If that's what you want.
    Percival: Are you sure?
Siegfried: I'll be fine. If you could please take everyone else away from here, I'd appreciate it.
Per his wishes, everyone but Siegfried walks away, leaving the two old friends alone.
They move to a more secluded area for their pending talk.

    SIEGFRIED - Ending - Episode 2

As Siegfried and Gunther have their final talk, Gunther reveals that the legendary magician Merlin had been involved in the incident. Siegfried expresses his desire to save Gunther, but Gunther begs him to end his life. Understanding his friend's anguish, Siegfried agrees and bids him a painful farewell. With peace returned to Feendrache, the voices of the knights-in-training once again resound throughout the capital.

Siegfried: It's been a long time since we last had a chat.
    Gunther: It has.
    Siegfried: ...
Now that he has the chance to communicate, Siegfried is at a loss for words.
Gunther: Why did you save me?
Siegfried: I promised Kriemhild a long time ago to save you when you needed saving.
Gunther: Heh... That was for the human I was though.
Siegfried: Human or not, you will always be Gunther.
    Gunther: ...
Siegfried: I felt a bit of your old self return when you took that alma a moment ago.
Gunther: You must be imagining things.
Siegfried: That aside, who gave this power to you?
Hesitating momentarily at the question, Gunther quietly tells of how he came to be this way.
Gunther: A certain magician gave it to me.
Siegfried: A certain magician? Who do you speak of?
Gunther: His name, as he told me, was Merlin.
Siegfried: Merlin, the famous magician of legends?
Gunther: Yeah. I don't know if it was actually that Merlin or not.
Gunther: But I know for certain that he wants to send this country into chaos.
Siegfried takes in the knowledge of this new threat to Feendrache.
Siegfried: (I'll have to look into this Merlin later.)
For now, he stores that information away and returns back to the immediate matter at hand.
Siegfried: Gunther, I'll find a way to save you.
Siegfried: But until I do, could you lie low in a nearby cave?
Gunther: Heh... When did you get to be such a softy?
Siegfried: I still regret not being able to bring you back to the capital with me that day.
Siegfried: So at least allow me this chance to save you, if you'll have me as your friend again.
Gunther: You still think of me as a friend worth saving?
    Siegfried: Yes, I do.
Gunther: If you truly want to save me...
    Gunther: Then kill me.
    Siegfried: What?
    Gunther: Please, Siegfried.
Gunther: You know I can't ask anyone else but my best friend in the world for this.
A part of Siegfried expected this request to come.
However, accepting the request is another matter entirely.
Siegfried: Damn it! Is there no other way?
    Gunther: Please, Siegfried.
Gunther: I have nothing left in this life.
    Siegfried: ...
Gunther: Please. Do this for me.
The knight hesitates between doing what he wishes for and what Gunther wants.
An unknown amount of time passes as he balances the scale of his choices.
In the end, he decides on honoring the last wishes of his friend.
Siegfried: All right, I'll do it.
    Gunther: Thank you, Siegfried.
Gunther: Kriemhild, Licht... I'm finally coming to see you.
Siegfried: Someday I'll see you on the other side too, Gunther.
Days pass. Repairs are made, towns are cleaned, and peace returns to the country.
With his body in good health, Siegfried remains in the capital at the behest of Lancelot and the others.
Today once again finds him going through his daily routine and visiting a cemetery atop a hill overlooking the royal capital.
Siegfried: Your Majesty... The capital remains at peace again today.
He sets a bouquet of wildflowers before a grave, having clearly done so countless times before, and then moves on to other graves nearby.
    Siegfried: Gunther, Kriemhild, Licht...
    Siegfried: Rest well.
In front of their newly-made graves, he bows his head and offers a silent prayer.
    Siegfried: Now then.
Finishing, he lifts his head and gazes at the knights sparring on the training grounds in the distance.
Lancelot: Hey, Henry, you're out of breath already! Are you properly running every day?
Henry: Y-yes, sir! I'm doing my best!
Vane: Cruz, Tornelio, let's practice what we learned the other day!
    Cruz: Yes, sir.
Tornelio: Oh no. I wonder if I can do it...
Percival: Arthur, Mordred, come at me whenever you're ready.
Arthur: Okay! We're definitely getting a hit on you today!
Mordred: You said it! Let's use that move we thought up yesterday!
The knights are hard at work training as usual.
Vyrn: They're always so into their practice.
Lyria: Seeing everyone so lively gives me energy too!
(Captain) and the crew observe the training knights from the side.
As this daily routine goes on, a familiar figure approaches the grounds.
    Siegfried: Sorry I'm late, everyone.
    Lancelot: Good morning, Siegfried!
Arthur & Mordred: Good morning, Siegfried!
    Siegfried: Good morning.
Lancelot: All right, let's all take a break before Siegfried begins his training session!
    Arthur & Mordred: Yes, sir!
As the knights-in-training take their rest, the others gather around Siegfried.
Lancelot: How have you been feeling?
Siegfried: I'm feeling fine at the moment.
Siegfried: But I'm still worried about it happening again one day.
Percival: We'll stop you again if that day comes, so you have nothing to worry about.
Vyrn: Don't forget we're here too!
Lyria: We're always willing to help!
    1. So rely on us too, okay?

Choose: So rely on us too, okay?
Siegfried: Heh... This is all reassuring to hear.
Vane: That's right! So you're not allowed to up and vanish, you hear me?
Siegfried: I do. Thank you, Vane.
Siegfried looks fondly at all his friends as they fuss over him.
He remembers when he had just become captain of the Order of the Black Dragons.
One particular day, King Josef had brought him to the capital's training grounds.
    King Josef: Siegfried.
    Siegfried: Yes, Your Majesty?
King Josef: I've been thinking about changing the old system of accepting knights into our fold.
King Josef: Instead of relying on family relations and recommendations, I was hoping for a more equal system that gives the opportunity to anyone worthy.
King Josef: But I'm sure you're already tired of being dragged around by my whims, aren't you?
Siegfried: No, I would hardly call this tiring.
    King Josef: Oh?
King Josef: You know, I dream of a day when these grounds can be filled with strong knights like you, Siegfried.
King Josef: It won't be easy, but I have every confidence we can make that dream come true together.
Siegfried: Yes, it would be my honor to aid you.
Siegfried: I will definitely show you a gathering of knights worthy of these grounds one day.
King Josef: Heh... Well then, I can't wait for that day to come.
Siegfried's thoughts are interrupted as the knights-in-training flock around him.
Arthur: Siegfried, thanks for coming today! Let's get to sparring!
Mordred: Hey, how come you get to go first!
Henry: Whoa, the honors should go to me, you know?
Tornelio: I wanted to ask him, too...
    Cruz: You did?
Tornelio: Y-yeah, but I should stop hoping for the impossible.
Cruz: You won't know until you try though.
    Tornelio: Y-you're right!
Siegfried smiles warmly at them all.
Siegfried: I'll start by taking everyone on at the same time then.
    All Five: Yes, sir!
The young knights' voices resound throughout the capital.
Siegfried gazes up at the expanse of the clear blue sky.
Siegfried: (Your Majesty, I know this is quite late, but the future you wished for is coming true. I will watch over these promising knights and the others that will join them.)
No matter what trials await him in the future, he knows he will overcome them with the help of his friends, as sure as the sky is blue.
