Good Morning Star
After the crew purchases a custom-made morning star, a girl named Daetta claims it's hers and demands it back. It turns out to be a mix-up; after she gets her own morning star back, she decides to join the crew out of friendship.
The crew purchases a rare weapon from an antique dealer in a certain village.
Vyrn: Check it out! Apparently this morning star was custom-ordered from a famous workshop. I'd say we scored on this one!
Katalina: Indeed. The morning stars of Gauka are pretty famous. It's said that they're rust-resistant, and the spikes don't wear down.
Meanwhile a girl glares at the excited crew like a hawk.
???: ...
Lyria: You know, that girl over there sure seems interested in us.
Vyrn: Huh? Oh, you mean her? Yeah, she's staring pretty hard.
Katalina: Hm? And she's wearing something pretty unique. She almost looks like a stuffed animal.
Vyrn: Wait a sec... I think she's coming this way.
???: Grrr...
Rackam: Hey there. You need something from us?
???: That!
???: Whatcha paws doin' all over my morning star? Hand it over!
???: You're crazy if you think I'mma let you rework it into a mace or whatever!
Lyria: Excuse me?
???: Morning stars are rarer than flying pigs 'round here! How dare you steal my one-and-only! I, Daetta, won't stand for it!
Daetta: I got the receipt right here! See, it has the same serial number as the morning star! So fork it over, or I'll get the authorities involved!
Rackam: Whoa, whoa... That's a big accusation.
Katalina: Yes, but if what she says is true, I don't think we'd feel good walking off with stolen merchandise.
Katalina: I think we should return this morning star to its rightful owner.
Vyrn: Yeah.
The crew compares the serial number on the girl's receipt to the one on their morning star, but...
Daetta: They're not the same...
Daetta: Guess that weapon's not mine. Sorry 'bout barkin' up the wrong tree.
Lyria: Hm... Do you think that girl's all right? She sure looked sad...
Katalina: Yes, we'd better go after her. We can't just leave her like that.
Lyria: I agree! And we can help her look for her morning star.
Vyrn: That's right! Besides, ignoring stuff like this will ruin our rep! Right, (Captain)?
Vyrn: Hey, missy! Wait! We wanna help you look for it!
Daetta: Are you sure? I mean, I don't even know where to start lookin'.
Vyrn: Leave it to us! Our first stop should be the Knickknack Shack! Siero knows pretty much everything!
Outlaw: Get off me! You got no proof!
Guard: Hold still, you filthy thief!
Sierokarte: And you must be the owner of the morning star! Here you go!
Vyrn: Huh? It's already been settled?
Sierokarte: Sure has! I acted like I was making an appraisal and secretly called for the guards.
Rackam: Woah... You're as sharp as ever.
Sierokarte: Trust is the lifeblood of a merchant. I can't be handling swag.
Katalina: But how'd you know the morning star was stolen?
Sierokarte: Heehee... Trade secrets, my friend.
Daetta: Y'all really helped me out... and you even did it in two shakes...
Katalina: Then why the long face?
Daetta: So... I'm a stickler for uniqueness.
Daetta: I thought I finally got my mitts on a rarity, but y'all got a weapon from the same workshop too. So much for bein' special...
Lyria: But is that really such a bad thing? You and your friends now have matching morning stars! That's pretty snazzy!
Daetta: My friends?
Katalina: Aren't we? We overcame a difficulty together. I have no objection to calling you my friend.
Daetta: Know what? You're right! Having matching weapons with friends isn't so bad!
Daetta: Which means I'm comin' with you! We're gonna rule the battlefield with our identical gear!
Vyrn: Hold it... Are you serious?
- I like your spirit!
- Travel by airship is rough.
Choose: I like your spirit!Daetta: Leave it to me! I'll maul our foes with this morning star!
Choose: Travel by airship is rough.Daetta: The rougher the better! My ancestors went on brutal journeys with their morning stars too!
Continue 1Vyrn: Ha-ha. If it's okay with (Captain), then I also approve! Welcome aboard!
Katalina: This is a bit off topic, but that stuffed animal on your head is amazing. I like its fluffiness.
Lyria: Yeah, it's just adorable!
Daetta: How about I tell y'all where to buy your own? Then we'd complement each other in style!
Lyria: Wha!
Katalina: H-hey! No need to drag me!
Vyrn: They ran off... Should we go after them, (Captain)?
Thus the young lady with a stuffed animal on her head befriends the crew and joins them on their journey.
Although the crew is more or less obliged to take Daetta in, her skill with the morning star will prove its worth down the line.
Crew's New Star
The crew listens to a bard's song at an inn, and when Lyria overhears Daetta singing too, Daetta rushes out of the inn. The crew grows worried when she doesn't return, but the village is suddenly invaded by monsters.
The crew has dinner at an inn. A traveling bard sings a beautiful song, and the patrons are moved by his performance.
Rackam: Whoa! I'm impressed!
Lyria: Yeah! It was such a great song! Don't you think so, Daetta?
Daetta: Loo-la-loo lah...
Lyria: Hm? Isn't that the song the bard was just singing?
Daetta: O-of course not! You didn't hear anythin'! I was jus' thinkin' to myself!
Lyria: Ah, but you liked that song, didn't you? So did I!
Daetta: Oogh... Gaah! I forgot somethin' in my room! I'll be right back!
Daetta:
Lyria: Hmm... Daetta's not back yet. I hope she's okay...
Katalina: She said she was going to her room. I'll go check on her.
Afterward everyone in the crew searches for Daetta, but there's no sign of her at the inn.
Lyria: Where could she have gone?
Rackam: Great. Please don't tell me she went outside by herself.
Man: S-somebody! Come help!
Katalina: That came from outside! Let's move!
Monster: Guorgh!
Vyrn: Monsters!
Rackam: And there's a whole horde of 'em! What have the guards been doing?
Rackam: What else could go wrong? Daetta! Where are you?
Daetta: Shoo! Where'd you stinky monsters come from?
Vyrn: There she is! Come on, (Captain)!
Crew's New Star: Scene 2
Daetta tells the crew she wants to sing like the bard, but she fears being laughed at due to her lisp. They eventually convince her to try, but they're interrupted by more monsters.
Katalina: Well, looks like all of them.
Rackam: Bunch of crazy monsters... You okay, Daetta?
Lyria: Oh, Daetta! We were worried about you! You disappeared so suddenly.
Katalina: Are you all right? Did something happen at the inn?
Daetta: I-I...
Daetta tries to say something but stops herself.
(Captain) and company watch for more monsters as they wait for her to speak again.
Daetta: To be honest... I have a bit of a lisp, so I envy people who can sing like songbirds.
Daetta: I wanna sing like that, but I know I never will... It filled my mind, and I ended up outside.
Daetta: Then monsters came out, and I started fightin' 'em without thinkin'.
Rackam: I see... You want to sing like that bard, huh? Then why don't you give it a shot?
Rackam: Look. There are plenty of singers out there with lisps. They sing in a way that no one else can.
Rackam: That's what my singer friend tells me anyway. Well? Why not at least give it a try?
Vyrn: Now that's a good idea! Sing for us, Daetta!
Daetta: Wait a second! I've never sang in front of anyone before.
Daetta: What if someone laughs at my lisp? I don't know if I can take that.
Rackam: Nah, you're good! You're the hero who fought for this village. Nobody'll laugh at you.
Katalina: That's right. And we won't let anyone laugh at you regardless.
Daetta: Okay... I'll take a stab at it!
Man: S-somebody help! More monsters!
Vyrn: All right! Let's take 'em out and celebrate back at the inn!
Crew's New Star: Scene 3
After fighting off monsters, Daetta gathers the courage to sing in front of the villagers, and her unique voice receives praise from everyone. From then on Daetta makes a habit of singing on the airship's deck when no one's around.
The villagers are still pumped up after the battle, so they drink and get rowdy despite their injuries.
As if to praise the people who fought so bravely, the bard sings a song about a valiant hero.
Daetta: Excuse me, sir! Could you play a song for me?
Daetta: And I wanna be the one to sing it!
Bard: No problem, young lady!
The bard begins playing a melody, and Daetta hesitates only momentarily before joining him. The villagers quiet down as all eyes turn to her.
Villager 1: Say, she's got a real pretty voice. Totally different from when she was fighting, don't you think?
Villager 2: Yeah. Her singing's a bit unsteady, but it only makes me want to root for her more.
Villager 2: Actually... it's almost as if she's the one rooting for me...
Villager 1: Woo! Great job, girl!
Vyrn: How about that? They love her!
Rackam: Haha! She had nothing to worry about!
Villager 2: Hey, young lady! Sing another one for us!
Daetta: Another one?
Lyria: Yeah! I want to join in too!
The inn's bar is filled with cheers and applause for Daetta.
She blushes as the crowd clamors for another song.
Daetta: This is too much!
Lyria: Oh no! She's running away! Daetta!
Rackam: Come on... Please don't tell me she's hiding outside again?
Katalina: It seems we have our work cut out for us. Let's go get her, (Captain)!
Daetta's night of trials comes to an end with her learning the joys of singing.
From that night on, she makes a habit of singing on the deck when no one's around, becoming yet another unique character in the crew.
