Chocolates? These are for me? Thank you, Captain.
But why? It's all a little sudden... For Valentine's? Sorry Captain, but I don't know what that is.
Still, I'm happy to have it. I'll definitely get you something in return.

2

(Captain)? What smells so sweet?
Valentine's...
(Captain), you're giving me chocolates this year as well?
Mgh... My face is getting all hot, but I don't know why.(Captain), don't look at me.

You bring me chocolate this year too, (Captain)?

Perfect timing, Captain. I searched high and low for this, and wanted to give it to you.
You knew today was White Day, right? You were the one who taught me about it. This is the day you give something back in return for Valentine's.
This is the first time I've done this, so I'm a little nervous.
You're happy, Captain? Thank goodness... I'm happy, too.

2

I have something for you for White Day.
(Captain), take this.
Of course, it's in return for Valentine's Day. But it's not just that.
It also has my feelings of thanks.
(Captain), thank you for everything.

3

This... is for White Day, (Captain).
Really, this present is not enough to show you all of my thanks.
Still, it is important to express.
Or so I think.
I hope my feelings shine through, (Captain), at least a little bit.

Woah! Oh, it's you, Captain. You frightened me. Why are you dressed like that?
A Halloween costume? Ah, I see... We have festivals in which we don the dress of monsters and deities in my homeland, as well.
Hm? Trick or treat, you say? Is that some kind of Halloween incantation?
Understood. I'll do my best to get in the spirit of Halloween, too. Trick or treat!

2

The town on Halloween night is much different. It feels like another world.
There is not much light here. It is dim.
No, I am all right. Eso is stronger now. I am scared no more.
And I have the chant you gave me.
Trick or treat! With this there is nothing left to fear.

3

(Captain), do you have something to say to me?
...
I know you do! Today is Halloween!
(Captain)... Do you not wish for candy?
The word you want... begins with T.
(Captain)... Are you teasing me by being silent?
I prepared candy just for this! How could you!

Captain, is something going on? Everyone seems to be in particularly good spirits for some reason.
Happy holidays? I'm not sure I understand, but seeing everyone else having fun puts me in a good mood, too.
Care to tell me about these holidays of yours, Captain? I'm sure I'll have even more fun once I know the details!

2

You told me of what this night meant last year, (Captain).
So this year I know the proper greeting for the season.
Happy holidays!
Did I get it right?

3

On this night, the town sparkles like the starry sky.
I like that the darkness does not truly fall.
Not... Not that I am scared! But everyone can enjoy the twinkling lights.
So a bright night is best. That is all.
(Captain)... Why are you laughing?

A Giant in Search of Courage[edit]

Stumbling through the blackness of a cave, (Captain) and company bump into a shaking mouse of a boy.

Eso was on a mission to prove to the folks back in the village that he wasn’t going to let a little lack of light scare him. He searched for a stone in which a god slept.

His mission complete, Eso steeled himself to join our heroes on their journey.

The party finds themselves in the dankest, clammiest of caves, so dark you can hardly see the tip of your own nose.
Lyria: Whaa...Katalina...snff, and (Captain)...snff...
Katalina: It’s okay, Lyria.

This is just some musty old cave.

No monsters or any?
The party found themselves blocked by a large, shadowy figure.
Katalina: Eek!
Lyria: Waugh!
???: Aaaagh!
???: Gah...st-stay away! Don’t come any closer!
Katalina: H-hold on! Is that a person?
Vyrn: What’s happened?

Hey, guy! Simmer down!

You’re acting like we’re gonna eat you or something!
???: Er...and you are?
Vyrn: The name’s Vyrn!

This here’s (Captain).

We’re part of an order on a quest to find primal crystals.
Vyrn: So? How ‘bout you? What brings you to a place like this?
Eso: I, uh...I got lost. I’ve been here a few days, I think...
Katalina: Wha?!

This place is swarmed with monsters?

And you don’t have a scratch on you...
Eso: Monsters don’t scare me one bit. But...uh...
Katalina: Hm?
Lyria: Um...you wouldn’t happen to be afraid of the dark...would you?
Eso: Hey! I never said that! It’s just...I, uh, don’t like it...
Vyrn: Hrm...so, Mr. I-Don’t-Like-the-Dark. What’re you doing here?
Eso: I, uh...actually...
The boy Eso shared why he’d been lurking about in the darkness all by himself.
He’d been raised in a remote village. Though unspeakably brave in the face of myriad monsters and beastfolk, he was scared of heights and the dark...
But he’d be the one to get the last laugh. He’d come in search of a stone spoken of in legend...
Eso: So the legend says that a god sleeps in a special stone. I wanna find it. I wanna show them.
Eso: Y’know, prove that I’m no yellow belly.
Lyria: Hmm...a god in a stone. (Captain), don’t you think that sounds like...
Vyrn: Yeah! Sounds like it might be a primal crystal.
Vyrn: Hey, guy. How about you tell us more about this stone. Where do we need to look?
Eso: No clue. The only thing I know is that it’s a god in a stone.
Vyrn: ...what?! So...you’re looking for it. But you don’t know where it is...?
Eso: Yup. But I figure it should be gentle...and warm. I mean, a god lives in it.
Eso: So I’ve been going where it’s warm. I figure I’ll definitely find it that way.
Vyrn: What!? That’s all you’re going on?! Your gut!
Katalina: Wow...that’s kind of awesome...
Eso: ...awesome? You think I’m awesome?
Katalina: Wait. No, no way...
Lyria: You're amazing! You’re facing your fears to find a primal crystal!
Lyria: Yes!

You’re super brave, Eso!

I wish I could be like you!
Eso: Really?

No one ever told me that before.

I like how that sounds.
Eso: I’m brave...a brave warrior.

I couldn’t come here if I wasn’t.

I gotta find that stone.
Eso: But it’s hard. Looking for it, I mean.

None of the villagers have found it.

It’s probably way, way, deep inside.
Eso: But, um...now that you’ve said it...

I don’t know how to find it.

This is bad...
Lyria: H-hey! Why don’t we look for it together?
Lyria: We actually might be searching for the same thing.
Lyria: In that case... It’ll probably be much faster if we do it together. Right, (Captain)?
  1. I’d feel better if Eso’s with us
  2. Friendship will light the way

Choose: I’d feel better if Eso’s with us
Eso: Better...
Eso: Well, then. Leave it to me.

I’m the village’s best arm wrestler.

That’ll come in handy.
Eso: I’m coming with you guys!

Choose: Friendship will light the way
Eso: I’m not afraid of a little dark! I just don’t like it!
Eso: That doesn’t sound too bad. I wanna come with you guys!
Continue 1
Lyria: Good for you! First thing’s first...the cave...
Eso: Eek!
Katalina: Erm...why don’t you come out? No need to be scared.
Eso: I...I’m not scared!
Eso’s large frame betrayed a rather sensitive disposition. He walked along with his new companions.
Perhaps he’d look more fearsome once they’d left the cloying darkness of the cave behind...

A Light in the Dark[edit]

While they were looking for primal crystals, (Captain) and company stopped by the market. There, they receive a mission to deal with thugs. However, the hideout of the thugs is in a dark cave that Eso is afraid of... Eso gathers his courage to go but is then attacked by monsters.

Eso: That’s a huge town... So many people...
Vyrn: Hey, man! Stay alert or you’ll get lost!
The company continue their search for primal crystals. They stopped by a bustling market in order to replenish their supplies.
Vyrn: But if you’re as big as that, I’m sure we easily find it.
Eso: Too many people... Many times... Eso’s village...
Storekeeper: Mister! The big guy over there! Yeah, you!
Eso: ...! Y-You mean, Eso?
Storekeeper: Yeah. You’re huge! I can tell that you’re strong, too.
Storekeeper: I know this is sudden, but I have a favor to ask. It should be easy considering how strong you look.
Rackam: I see... So this is the place where the dine-and-dash thugs are.
Katalina: Yes. It seems that they looked at Eso’s big physique and asked him to deal with those thugs.
Eso: C-Cave... D-Dark...
Vyrn: H-Hey! You okay?
Eso: I-I’m not scared! Eso, help people in need. Bad people, will be punished!
Vyrn: All right! That’s the spirit!
Rackam: Yeah, but I don’t think it’ll be that simple.
Eso: Monsters... will not interfere. Let’s... defeat them, (Captain)!

A Light in the Dark: Scene 2[edit]

After defeating the monsters, (Captain) and company barged into the hideout. Eso gathered his courage while shaking in fear of the dark. The thugs then sent even more monsters at the party.

Eso: ...!
Vyrn: Hey, big guy! Are you okay?
Eso: E-Eso, not scared!
Thug 1: Oh? Who are you? You just come barging into our hideout uninvited!
Katalina: ...! It’s them... They have absolutely no class...
Eso: H-Hey! You...!
Thug 1: Huh? What?
Eso: You, did bad things! You, make problems for the townspeople. Say sorry, and pay them!
Thug 1: Huh? Why are you telling us what to do?
Thug 2: Heh... Look at him. He’s big, but look at him shake.
Thug 1: Hah! You think a coward like you can tell us what to do?!
Eso: ...
Rackam: Oh, boy. Looks like they’re not going to listen. Seems like we’ll have to make them pay by force.
Thug 1: Heh! We’re not going to deal with you personally! This is why we made this hideout!
Thug 1: Come out here!
Rackam: Tch...!
Thug 1: Come on! My monsters! It’s time for your meal! Get that big one over there!

A Light in the Dark: Scene 3[edit]

(Captain) and company defeated the monsters. The thugs plead while teary-eyed that they are committing crimes for a very good reason. But this is just to trick the trusting Eso.

Thug 1: No way! The monsters!
Vyrn: Haha! Don’t underestimate (Captain)! Just give it up!
Thug 1: Eek! W-Wait...! Hear me out here!
Katalina: What now? You don’t seem to know when to quit...
Thug 1: There’s a really good reason why we did it.
Thug 1: Well... It’s not that we wanted to do that... But we didn’t have a choice...
Thug 1: ...
Thug 1: Hehe... Just kidding! I got you!
Eso: ...
Thug 1: N-No way... H-How did he...?
Eso: You, tricked the townspeople... And now you trick Eso.
Eso: Lying... is bad. Eso, now mad!
Eso: Prepare yourself! Eso, will not forgive until you apologize!
Thug 1: Damn it!

A Light in the Dark: Scene 4[edit]

Eso punished the thugs for their evil deeds and lies. It seemed that he has overcome his fear of the dark through his battle for justice. But when Eso came to his senses, he feared the darkness of the cave again. He suggests that they leave right away.

Thug 1: N-No way... Ugh...
Eso: Listen. Lie again... And Eso punish you.
Eso: Eso, know many monster dens with hungry monsters. You, very welcome there.
Thug 1: Eek...!
Vyrn: Come on! That’s going a bit overboard!
Thug 1: I-I’m so sorry! I won’t ever do it again! I’ll pay up, too! So please spare my life!
Rackam: All right! I guess the problem is solved now. It’s all thanks to you, Eso!
Vyrn: Ahh! They’re all shaken up with the threat from the big guy!
Lyria: You said it! Eso is amazing!
Eso: Hehehe...
Lyria: Haha. He’s afraid of the dark, but he’s fighting so bravely...
Eso: Dark...?
Eso: ...!
Vyrn: Whoa...
Eso: N-Not scared! But darkness... is bad.
Eso: (Captain)...! We... leave!
The kind-hearted giant, Eso, continues to wield his axe for his justice.
Even when dark clouds gather, he will be able to fight off his fear of the dark for the sake of his friends.
