The Steed of His Dreams
After the confrontation with Gimle, Sleipnir is put in Grimnir's care until Valhalla is rebuilt. The God of War remembers a mortifying episode where he tried to mount the steed only to be bucked off, a reaction Odin ascribed to a difference in philosophy between Grimnir and himself. Centuries later, Grimnir manages to bridge the gap and achieve his dream of riding Sleipnir.
Following the conclusion of the conflict with Gimle, the primal legion that invaded Valhalla, Grimnir has returned to the Grandcypher.
And he is joined by a new companion—Odin's legendary steed, Sleipnir.
Grimnir: Oh man, never in a bajillion years did I think I'd get a chance to journey the skies with the Sleipnir!
Grimnir: You and I are gonna have tons of fun, Sleipnir, I just know it!
Sleipnir: !
Skuld: Need I remind you, this arrangement is temporary. Sleipnir is only allowed to travel with you until Valhalla is restored to its former glory.
Skuld: Once Lord Odin rebuilds our army, you will be called on to return him posthaste!
Grimnir: I-I know, I know!
Grimnir: He'll only be with us for a little while, but that doesn't mean we can't set him up with his own space, right?
Grimnir: Hey, (Captain), got any open cabins that can fit ol' Sleipnir here?
- I'll start looking for one.
- Can't he room with you?
Choose: I'll start looking for one.Grimnir: You're the best! We don't happen to have a stable on the ship, do we? I guess I could ask Rackam to whip one up if not...
Grimnir: Oh, uh, you won't have to worry about a thing! I'll fetch whatever materials we need!
Choose: Can't he room with you?Grimnir: What! You want me to share a room with Sleipnir?
Grimnir: You don't seriously expect one of me and one of Sleipnir to fit in the same space, do you?
Grimnir: I'll build another room if I have to! Come on, whatever you need me to do to make this work, I'll do it!
(Captain) watches Grimnir's growing panic with a straight face before breaking into an impish smile and admitting to pulling his leg.
Grimnir: You think you're sooo funny! I'll let you off the hook this time, but only because I'm super pumped Sleipnir's coming with us.
Continue 1Vyrn: You're actin' bubblier than usual, Grimnir! Are you that happy Odin's letting you borrow Sleipnir?
Grimnir: Happy? I'm absolutely ecstatic! It's a lifelong dream come true!
Grimnir: I remember when I used to watch Odin ride Sleipnir. I couldn't help but wonder what it was like, y'know?
Grimnir: Just imagine how cool I'd look galloping through the skies atop Odin's trusty steed!
Skuld: You are ill fit for the honor. In fact, the mere thought of handing you Sleipnir's reins infuriates me.
Skuld: If memory serves, you once tried to mount him, and like the noble stallion he is, he bucked you right off.
Grimnir: What! I... How do you know about that!
Skuld: Lord Odin told me himself some time ago.
Skuld: Attempting to ride Lord Odin's beloved steed only to be unceremoniously denied the privilege. I cannot possibly think of anything more shameful.
Grimnir: That's not fair! I mean, yeah, I did try to ride him without permission, but...
Grimnir's Voice: Odin! I've got a question about this tome of tactics for...
Grimnir: You? Oh, is it just you here, Sleipnir? That's weird.
Grimnir: You wouldn't happen to know where Odin went, would you?
Sleipnir: ...
Grimnir: Ah, guess not, huh. I'll just stay here and wait for him to come back then!
Grimnir trots over to settle himself next to Sleipnir.
Grimnir: ...
But just before he makes himself comfortable, he stops and glances up at Odin's steed with a restless twinkle in his eyes.
Grimnir: Say, Sleipnir... Any chance you'd let me, uh... hop on your back for bit?
Grimnir: Ever since I saw you race across the skies with Odin, it's been my dream to take you on a ride...
Grimnir: Um, well... I'm sure a quick little spin won't hurt...
Grimnir: Hup!
Sleipnir: !
Grimnir: Whoaaaa!
Grimnir: W-wow, that was scary! Uh-oh, Sleipnir, what's wrong?
Sleipnir: !
Grimnir: Wh-whoa, easy there, buddy! No need to get all worked up!
The agitated steed ignores Grimnir's pleas, frantically fighting to shake the reins from his grasp.
Grimnir: I-I'm sorry, okay! Just pleeease settle down!
Odin: Grimnir? What are you doing?
Grimnir: H-hey, Odin! I, um... I think I upset Sleipnir! Help me! Please!
Odin: Very well... Be calm, Sleipnir.
Though Odin's words take a while to work, his steed's panic eventually subsides.
When Grimnir explains to him what happened, he briefly pauses before responding with a knowing nod.
Odin: Hm... I see. It is hardly surprising why Sleipnir became so distressed.
Odin: I suspect he does not consider you worthy enough to be his master.
Grimnir: H-he doesn't? But I'm your alter ego! I'm literally half you and he still doesn't think I'm worthy?
Grimnir: Rgh... Maybe things would be different if I were just... stronger!
Odin: Sleipnir's rejection of you is much deeper than that. He can sense that your energies lack compatibility.
Grimnir: So he thinks we're... incompatible? You're sure it's not just because I'm too weak?
Odin: I am quite sure. You see, Sleipnir was created to resonate with my particular powers.
Odin: So the more your way of life deviates from mine, the further you alienate yourself from Sleipnir.
Grimnir: Hm... You lost me...
Odin: In other words, if you would like to mount Sleipnir, you first must learn to carry yourself with a dignity befitting of my other half.
Odin: Only when you awaken to your own power to lead will he welcome you upon his back.
Grimnir: Hmm... So he wants me to be more commanding, huh.
Grimnir: I was hoping we could be more like battle buddies, y'know?
Grimnir: Just a couple of warriors partnering up to bring glory to Odin on the battlefield! That kind of thing!
Odin: I see. As I thought, our philosophies are realms apart.
Odin: If you cannot find a way to close that divide, your dream of riding Sleipnir will likely remain a dream.
Odin: Though I suppose there is nothing wrong with staying the way you are.
Grimnir: Huh?
Odin: Sleipnir bears no ill will toward you. He simply does not consider you a suitable rider.
Odin: Perhaps it would be best for you to let go of this dream and instead embrace your authentic self.
Grimnir: O... kay?
Grimnir: Odin then offered to prepare a mount just for me, but I turned him down.
Grimnir: I just thought it'd be weird to hop on another horse when really the only steed I've ever wanted to ride was Sleipnir.
Vyrn: Wow, so you're practically living a dream centuries in the making! No wonder you're so giddy!
Grimnir: See! I knew you'd get it!
Grimnir: Now I don't have to choose anymore! I can be Sleipnir's friend and ride the skies with him!
Grimnir: I get the best of both worlds! Pretty sweet deal, don't you think, Sleipnir?
Sleipnir: !
Sleipnir lets out a sprightly whinny as if in agreement with the God of War's assessment.
Much to his delight, Grimnir has finally received the steed's seal of approval.
A Solution for Sleipnir
Upon finishing a request, Grimnir notices Sleipnir is not himself and asks the crew for help. Lyria examines the steed and surmises that he is depleted of a necessary energy, causing him to feel something akin to exhaustion or hunger. Grimnir decides to procure the best stable litter and food to lift Sleipnir from his malaise.
Grimnir: (Captain)! I need your help!
One day aboard the Grandcypher, Grimnir barges into (Captain)'s room in a tizzy.
Vyrn: Whoa! What's up, Grimnir? You get into trouble on your mission?
Grimnir: Oh, no, not at all! Sleipnir and I took care of that delivery request easy-peasy!
Grimnir: The problem is when we got back... I noticed that Sleipnir didn't seem to be doing so hot!
Grimnir: I have no idea what could be bringing him down, so I thought I'd try asking you guys. Just come to the deck and see for yourself!
Lyria: We'll be there right away! Come on, (Captain), let's go see what's bothering Sleipnir!
Sleipnir: ...
The crew arrives on the deck and finds the great steed looking abnormally weary, just as Grimnir described.
Lyria: Hm... I see what you mean. He doesn't look like his usual self.
Lyria: And his energy feels weakened somehow, like there's something wrong inside him...
Grimnir: S-so you feel it too! I wonder what it could be...
Vyrn: We might know a thing or two about primals, but primal horses...
Vyrn: Why don't you try picking Odin's brain? Sleipnir's his horse. If there's anyone that could help you, it's probably him.
Grimnir: Yeah, maybe you're right...
Grimnir ponders Vyrn's suggestion for a moment before shaking his head.
Grimnir: No, I can't. I don't think it'd be a good idea to bother Odin or Skuld right now.
Vyrn: Why not?
Grimnir: I heard Odin and the others are already taking major steps toward rebuilding Valhalla.
Grimnir: Apparently, even Valkyries like Hlokk stationed in other skydoms are being summoned just to lend a hand.
Grimnir: I'd feel bad butting in, asking for help with Sleipnir while everyone's working so hard to get Valhalla back on its feet...
Grimnir: Besides, Odin trusted me enough to leave his steed in my care. I don't wanna do anything to disappoint him.
Grimnir: It's up to me to sort this out! On my honor as the God of War, I will restore Sleipnir's vim and vigor!
Following his bold declaration, Grimnir lowers his head in deference to Lyria.
Grimnir: Please help me, Girl in Blue... I need you to take a closer look at Sleipnir!
Grimnir: He's sort of a primal, so I don't think he can get sick...
Grimnir: But, I dunno, he could be injured. And primal or not, that'd be bad news. Could you see if he's trying to tell us anything?
Lyria: Okay, I'll do what I can!
Lyria: Hmm, okay... From what I can tell, he's not hurt, physically or otherwise.
Lyria: It's... hard to describe. It almost feels like he's lacking some kind of important energy.
Lyria: Like he isn't getting enough sleep or eating enough food.
Vyrn: But he's been sleeping plenty and chomping down on all the carrots you give him. What more could he need?
Grimnir: Hold on, Red Dragon. I think I know what he's going through.
Grimnir: Sleipnir might be a primal, but he's a horse too. And I've heard horses can get really stressed when they're taken out of their comfort zone.
Grimnir: I remember when I first came aboard. I got so worked up over the highs and lows of ship life, I completely tuckered myself out!
Grimnir: Maybe Sleipnir's the same and got overwhelmed trying to adjust to his new surroundings?
Vyrn: When were you gonna tell us you were having all these feelings...
Lyria: Well, if you think he's having a hard time like you were, what can we do to help him?
Grimnir: Isn't it obvious! Nothing does a weary body better than an extra dose of tender love and care!
Grimnir: Let's start... with making him a comfy bed! Can't recharge without a cozy place to lay your head!
Grimnir: Thanks to you guys, he's already got his own space...
Grimnir: But maybe the pillows and bedding aren't to his liking? The smallest things can make a world of difference!
Lyria: Pillows and bedding... You mean his stable litter?
Grimnir: Bingo! Sleipnir deserves to rest on the lushest, most premium stable litter there is!
Grimnir: And food! Can't forget about food! I gotta find him some grade A veggies to jump-start his appetite too!
Grimnir: I bet if I can get him carrots that are just as tasty as the grub we've got on the Grandcypher, he'll perk right up!
Grimnir clenches his fist, eyes brimming with determination, before raising his hand to tenderly pat Sleipnir's back.
Grimnir: Just you wait, buddy! I'll get you back in tip-top shape in no time!
Sleipnir: ...
Without words to express his emotions, the mighty steed stares intently at Grimnir as if moved by his generosity.
A Solution for Sleipnir: Scene 2
Grimnir accepts a request from a family of farmers that has what he seeks. With his winds, he harvests and dries their wheat in a flash, a method he tries to replicate with the carrots until he is stopped by the farmer's mother. After learning the importance of careful work from her, Grimnir is rewarded with bundles of soft straw and a basket of glossy carrots.
Vyrn: Hey, speakin' of, we just got a request that could net you some good straw and yummy veggies!
Grimnir: Do you? Tell me about it, Red Dragon!
Vyrn: It's from a farm that needs a hand harvesting this season's crops, which just so happens to include wheat and carrots.
Vyrn: I got some apples from them once, and they might've been the sweetest, most delicious apples I've ever had!
Vyrn: They're nice folks. If you help 'em out, I'm sure they'll hook you up with the best carrots and straw they've got!
Grimnir: That's perfect... The winds of fate are blowing me exactly where I need to go!
Grimnir: Very well! I, the God of War, shall handle this mission personally! Just tell me where to go, (Captain)!
Upon learning the name of the island where the farm is, Grimnir jets off like a gust of wind.
When he arrives at his destination, he immediately seeks out the farmer who issued the request.
Humble Farmer: Oh... I take it you're the one that's going to be helping me. Mister Grimnir, yes?
Grimnir: That is correct! I am Grrrrimnir, the God of War!
Grimnir: I have it on good authority that the bounty you've cultivated on this very soil is the greatest in the skies!
Grimnir: Whatever you need me to do, consider it done! In return, I ask for your assistance in fulfilling the needs of my ebony companion!
Humble Farmer: Haha, I think you have it backwards—I'm the one in need of assistance here. Either way, I appreciate your enthusiasm.
Humble Farmer: How about we start off by harvesting some of our wheat? Come, I'll show you to our fields.
Grimnir follows the farmer's lead and gasps at the vast, gilded sea rolling into the horizon.
Grimnir: Whoa! Your fields are gorgeous!
Grimnir: Each and every stalk sparkles like pure gold! The straw from harvesting them is gonna make for some great stable litter, I can tell!
Humble Farmer: You're too kind. As beautiful as they are, they sure are a pain in the rear to harvest. There's just so much ground to cover.
Humble Farmer: All righty then, I'll start at that end over there, and you can get to work here...
The farmer holds out a sickle as he walks Grimnir through the details of harvesting the wheat.
But Grimnir raises his hand, refusing the tool.
Grimnir: Keep your instrument, kind mortal. I can take care of this myself.
Grimnir: My turbulent tempest... shall make quick work of this aureate ocean!
Grimnir: Howling winds, rush forth and cut true!
With a resounding cry, Grimnir summons a keen gale of wind that races across the fields like an ethereal sickle, reaping the sea of grain in waves.
Grimnir: Zephyr, gather the bounty and pile it high!
At Grimnir's behest, the wind sweeps the freshly harvested wheat into a soft embrace and gently stacks it next to the primal and the farmer.
The farmer watches the spectacular feat unfold with his mouth agape. When he realizes what else Grimnir has done, his eyes go wide.
Humble Farmer: Good gracious... Did you just harvest and dry the wheat all in one go?
Grimnir: Heh... Mere child's play for my mighty winds.
Grimnir: Oh, speaking of which, I heard somewhere that you can only start threshing wheat once it's dried, right?
Grimnir: And now that it's dry, we can get it all processed by the end of the day and snag some superb straw to bring back to Sleipnir!
Humble Farmer: You know your stuff. Looks about dry enough to be threshed, so I'll get right on that.
Humble Farmer: And as thanks for showing me such a wonderful display of magic, I'll be sure to pick out only the best straw for your pal!
Grimnir: Seriously? Nice! You're doing me a huge solid!
Grimnir: Okay, wheat's done. Now for the carrots! Let me at 'em, I'll have them harvested in a flash!
Humble Farmer: My, aren't you an eager one! Well, don't let me keep you. Go on ahead to our carrot patch.
Humble Farmer: It's about a hop, skip, and jump away from our house. My mother should be in the area. Talk to her and she'll tell you exactly what to do.
Grimnir: Just talk to mama. Gotcha! Carrots are no match... for the God of War!
Grimnir: Cool! So all you need me to do is get these bad boys out of the ground, right?
Farmer's Mother: Yessir, every one of them is just about ready for the dinner table. Make sure to get every carrot, from one end to the other.
Grimnir: You got it! Carrot or wheat, none can withstand the force of my raging tempest!
Grimnir: Howling winds, dig beneath the—
Farmer's Mother: What do you think you're doing!
Grimnir: Whoaaaa!
Just as Grimnir begins his incantation, the elderly woman launches herself at him with tremendous force.
The impact sends Grimnir tumbling headfirst into the patch.
Grimnir: H-hey, what was that for! You made me face-plant right into your... plants!
Farmer's Mother: Don't give me that! Tell me, what exactly were you gonna do to our precious carrot patch!
Grimnir: I, uh... I was gonna harvest the carrots all at once with some wind magic...
Farmer's Mother: My behind you were! Our carrots are delicate! You can't just yank them out of the ground like that!
Farmer's Mother: Wrenching them up like a madman is gonna do nothing but ruin them! You gotta be gentle!
Grimnir: Oh... I just thought I could harvest the carrots like I did the wheat. But I guess not, huh. Sorry...
Startled by the harsh rebuke of his harvesting methods, Grimnir's shoulders droop.
Seeing the remorse on his face, the elderly woman sighs and softens her hard stance.
Farmer's Mother: Every crop is harvested differently. What works for the wheat won't work for the carrot. As long as you remember that, I'll let your little whoopsie slide.
Farmer's Mother: By the way... I heard from my son that you're wanting our carrots to feed to your friend, that right?
Grimnir: Oh uh, yeah! His name is Sleipnir! I was hoping I could bring some back for him!
Grimnir: See, he hasn't been himself as of late. I figured getting him a bunch of delicious carrots might help cheer him up.
Farmer's Mother: Is that so... Well, all the more reason you should try to work more carefully, don't you think?
Farmer's Mother: The last step in growing fresh, succulent carrots is pulling them out of their soil with gentle love and care.
Farmer's Mother: Hard work and dedication is what makes a carrot delicious. Put in the effort now, and these carrots will have your friend smiling ear to ear.
Grimnir: O-oh, I get what you're saying now!
Grimnir: You know, that reminds me of something Raphael said.
Grimnir: The key to growing perfect carrots is connecting with your patch and listening to what they need.
Grimnir: And as Raphael's disciple, I'm gonna give these carrots all the attention they deserve!
Grimnir: It's the least I can do for my beloved ally, Sleipnir!
And so, with a touch both passionate and careful, Grimnir gets to work harvesting the farmer's carrots.
Grimnir gingerly draws the last carrot out of the soil as the elderly woman watches, nodding in approval at his technique.
Farmer's Mother: Well I'll be... You're a natural. You've got the dedication and skill to make a real fine farmer.
Farmer's Mother: You wouldn't be interested in becoming one of our farmhands, would you?
Grimnir: Hmm... Your invitation is flattering. Raphael wouldn't devote himself to farming if it weren't an honorable calling.
Grimnir: I'm sure following in his footsteps and becoming a farmer would be a fine path to take...
Grimnir: But I am the God of War. Much like the humble carrot, I, too, seek to safeguard the smiles of skydwellers—but in a different way.
Grimnir: Today, I have taken up the mantle of farmer to restore the zeal of my companion. But tomorrow, I return to the spear!
Farmer's Mother: Haha! Whatever you say! Not sure what you mean by that, but I can tell you're as loyal a friend as they come!
Farmer's Mother: All righty then, here you go! A big bunch of juicy carrots just for your friend!
The elderly woman plops a large basket of carrots into Grimnir's hands as a thank-you for his good work.
Grimnir: Wh-whoa? You sure you want me to have all of this? Thanks!
Grimnir: They look so fresh and glossy! These beauties will have Sleipnir back to his old self in no time!
Farmer's Mother: Well now, you know exactly what to say to make an ol' farmer smile, don't you!
Humble Farmer: Hey, good timing, Mister Grimnir! I just finished bundling up some straw for you! Go ahead and take as much as you need!
Grimnir: Sweet! Wow, it's so soft! And smells amazing!
Humble Farmer: Like I said, I bundled up only the best! Hope your friend likes it!
Grimnir: I'm sure he will! Thank you, blessed tillers of the land! I shall never forget your kindness!
The farmer and his mother wave goodbye to Grimnir as he makes his way back to the Grandcypher, straw in one arm and carrots in the other.
When he returns, he rushes off to Sleipnir, giddy about the prospect of seeing his friend healthy and happy once more.
A Solution for Sleipnir: Scene 3
Grimnir's bounty fails to do the trick, but Skuld arrives and identifies the root of Sleipnir's fatigue as a lack of thunder energy. Willing to try anything, Grimnir calls a bolt down on Sleipnir and the steed immediately perks up. Despite overlooking this simple solution, Grimnir sees the experience as a moment of growth for his bond with Sleipnir, and the steed neighs in agreement.
Grimnir carefully sets the bounty he received from the farmers in Sleipnir's stable and tries to gauge his reaction.
Grimnir: So whaddya think, buddy? Like what I brought you?
Sleipnir: ...
Sleipnir lets out a mild neigh, but the crunchy carrots and soft straw are not enough to bring him out of his deep funk.
Vyrn: Still feelin' down, huh... Guess we're gonna need more than a comfy bed and tasty grub to fix Sleipnir.
Lyria: I've been thinking, maybe he's in need of a little workout?
Lyria: Horses require regular exercise to feel their best. I read about it in a book!
Grimnir: Exercise, huh... Great idea, Girl in Blue! Can't move around much when you're cooped up on a ship, after all.
Grimnir: A monster extermination request should be just the thing to get your blood pumping! Let's ride, Sleipnir!
Hoping to give the steed some much needed physical activity, Grimnir and Sleipnir set off to eliminate a swarm of avian monsters in a nearby forest.
Monsters: !
Grimnir: You fiends are no match for Sleipnir and the Mad Cyclone! Behold, my bolt of divine judgment!
Grimnir calls thunder down upon the swarm, blasting them apart one after the other.
Sleipnir: !
In response, Sleipnir seems to come alive, his stride growing ever more spirited and energetic.
Grimnir: Whoa! Now this... This is the Sleipnir I know and love!
Grimnir: All you needed was a little exercise, huh! Glad to have you back, buddy!
Monsters: !
Grimnir: All right, Sleipnir! Let's show these beasts who really runs the skies!
Sleipnir: !
The dynamic duo tear through the remaining monsters like a whirlwind, wrapping up the request in a spectacular fashion.
They return to the Grandcypher in high spirits, but for Sleipnir, the feeling of triumph passes in a flash.
Sleipnir: ...
Vyrn: Is it just me, or does he look like he's back to being blue again?
Grimnir: That's weird... I thought that bit of activity perked him up, but I guess it didn't work.
Grimnir: And now we're back to square one. Where do I even go from here?
Lyria: We can't just give up on Sleipnir. Is there really nothing else we can do to help him?
- Could Sleipnir be homesick?
- Maybe Sleipnir's not a fan of carrots?
Choose: Could Sleipnir be homesick?Grimnir: You think he's down because he misses Valhalla?
Grimnir: I suppose having a friend from home by his side just isn't enough to keep him happy... I bring nothing but shame to my own legend!
Vyrn: Relax. I don't think homesickness is something that can be cured by a single friend...
Vyrn: But I dunno, sendin' him back to Valhalla might be the only thing you can do.
Grimnir: Yeah, maybe... But I'd rather not have Sleipnir go back to the madhouse that Valhalla's probably turned into at the moment...
Choose: Maybe Sleipnir's not a fan of carrots?Grimnir: What! Are you trying to tell me that whole "horses love carrots" thing is completely bogus?
Lyria: I mean, it could be? We've got a few cats and dogs on board and they all have their own likes and dislikes.
Vyrn: Who knows, Sleipnir might just prefer apples!
Vyrn: I'd be happy to share my premium stash if you'd like to try giving him some!
Grimnir: That's so kind of you, Red Dragon...
Lyria: You should reach out to your friends in Valhalla too, see if they have any info on Sleipnir's preferences.
Continue 1As the crew mull over their options, they hear the sound of wings flapping in the distance.
Skuld: You lot look awfully troubled. Is something wrong?
Grimnir: Agh! Skuld? Talk about timing...
Grimnir: Wait, shouldn't you be in Valhalla? I thought Odin summoned you and the other Valkyries to help out?
Skuld: He did. The plans have been laid and we have already started to mobilize according to his orders.
Continue 2Skuld: Unfortunately, the restoration will require me to be away from the ship for extended periods of time.
Skuld: And as I am part of this crew, I thought it would only be prudent to notify (Captain) of this development.
Continue 3Skuld: Lord Odin is aware that the crew is quite invested in the welfare of Valhalla.
Skuld: As such, he has tasked me with keeping you all abreast of the situation, hence my visit.
Continue 4Skuld: Now, Grimnir. Explain to me what vexes you.
Grimnir: It's, uh... It's Sleipnir. He just hasn't been himself and I can't figure out why.
Grimnir: I tried everything—giving him a bunch of delicious carrots, fixing him a comfy bed... But, so far, nothing's worked.
Grimnir: You wouldn't happen to have any idea what could be bothering him, would you, Skuld?
Skuld: You wish to know why Sleipnir is out of sorts? Hm...
Skuld raises her brow and begins to inspect Sleipnir for any abnormalities. Not a moment later, she casually delivers her verdict to Grimnir.
Skuld: Come now, the reason for his dysfunction is quite simple. Sleipnir is deficient in thunder energy.
Grimnir: So... he's low on thunder? I-I'm not sure I get it...
Skuld: You know as well as I do that Sleipnir was born from Lord Odin's powers.
Skuld: To function properly, he requires an infusion of his creator's power—namely thunder energy.
Grimnir: O-oh, okay... You know, now that you mention it, I don't think I've ever seen Odin feed Sleipnir!
Vyrn: You're kiddin' me! Would've been nice to know that at the start!
Skuld: Grimnir. Though Lord Odin's alter you may be, I understand that wind is your element of choice.
Skuld: But by neglecting to wield Lord Odin's chosen element, you have deprived Sleipnir of an important source of nutrients.
Skuld: Go on, try hitting him with a bolt. You will see what I mean soon enough.
Grimnir: O-okay, I'll give him a shot!
Grimnir: O thunder!
Sleipnir: !
The ebony steed allows himself to be struck by the bolt, spasming before seizing up with a violent shudder.
Sleipnir: !
As if reborn, Sleipnir lets out an enthusiastic neigh.
Grimnir: Sleipnir! Oh thank goodness, I thought you'd never come back!
Vyrn: No wonder he was so energetic during your expedition. The thunder you shot at those bird monsters must've given him a little boost.
Vyrn: See, what did I tell ya? We could've figured this out way sooner if you just asked Skuld for help...
Grimnir: Y-yeah, okay fine, I made it harder than it had to be... But that doesn't mean I did all that work for nothing!
Grimnir: You can't tell me all the straw and carrots I brought back for him didn't make him happy!
Grimnir: Anyway, I'm just glad he's back to his usual self. For real this time! Thanks for the help, Skuld!
Skuld: Well, you are as dim-witted as you have ever been, but I commend you on your dedication to caring for Lord Odin's beloved steed.
Skuld: I trust you will do your best to be good to one another—until it is time for Sleipnir to return to Valhalla, of course.
Grimnir: Like you have to ask! We've got each other's backs, don't we, Sleipnir!
Sleipnir: ...
Perhaps touched by the God of War's sentiment, Sleipnir silently trots over to him.
Sleipnir: ...
He then nuzzles his head against Grimnir's shoulder and offers him a warm and contented whinny.
Lyria: Hehe! I think that's Sleipnir's way of saying thank you, Grimnir!
Vyrn: Look at that. I don't speak horse, but my guess is that he's showing you his gratitude for all the work you put in to make him happy.
Grimnir: Aw, it was nothing! You're my partner—and partners always look out for one another! Isn't that right, Sleipnir!
Sleipnir: !
Grimnir's bright smile draws another gentle whinny from Sleipnir.
And so the god and his horse companion revel in their blooming friendship, ready and willing to take on whatever perils the skies may throw their way.
