Summary

Opening

The Captain and Vyrn prepare to leave their peaceful village of Zinkenstill in search of Estalucia when an imperial warship crashes nearby. They rescue a mysterious girl named Lyria who is being pursued by Captain Pommern and imperial forces. When the Captain is mortally wounded protecting Lyria, she saves his life by permanently linking their souls together, granting them the power to summon the legendary dragon Bahamut. Joined by former imperial knight Katalina Aryze, they escape on an airship and officially begin their journey as fugitives from the Erste Empire.

Port Breeze Archipelago (Chapters 1-4)

After crash-landing on the Port Breeze Archipelago due to Katalina's inexperienced piloting, the crew learns they are in the Phantagrande Skydom and that to reach Estalucia they must cross the dangerous Grim Basin - a miasma-filled barrier that divides the sky into different skydoms. Katalina explains they need an airship, a skilled helmsman, and sky map pieces to navigate this treacherous passage. They seek a helmsman and recruit Rackam, a bitter pilot who had given up flying after his beloved airship the Grandcypher crashed despite his expert skills. When the empire manipulates the guardian primal beast Tiamat into a destructive rampage to punish the archipelago's resistance, Rackam overcomes his trauma to pilot the Grandcypher into the sky. The crew calms Tiamat through respectful acknowledgment of her grievances, and Lyria absorbs the primal beast's excess energy. They obtain their first sky map piece from Tiamat and gain Rackam as a permanent crew member, beginning their collection of the fragments needed to eventually cross between skydoms.

Valtz Duchy (Chapters 5-8)

Following a mysterious letter from imperial agents Sturm and Drang, the crew investigates the disappearance of Archduke Tzaka in the industrialized Valtz Duchy. They rescue the archduke's apprentice Io from kidnappers and discover the archduke has been manipulated into awakening Colossus, an ancient iron primal beast created by enslaved Draph workers as their dream of rebellion against the Astrals. The crew battles through underground factory complexes and encounters the Black Knight, who warns them about the archduke's obsession with primal crystal technology. After defeating Colossus and restoring the archduke to his senses, Io joins the crew and they obtain another sky map piece. The archduke warns them that the Black Knight and her companion are planning something in the Auguste Isles.

Auguste Isles (Chapters 9-12)

Following the archduke's warning about the Black Knight's activities, the crew arrives at the crystal-clear waters of Auguste during a war between the islanders and the empire over weapons testing that pollutes the sacred oceans. They reunite with Rackam's old friend Eugen, who enlists their help defending the coast while revealing his personal connection to Leviathan, the sea primal beast whose healing powers once saved his daughter's life. When Leviathan begins consuming imperial airships to heal from pollution damage and threatens to destroy all of Auguste, the crew battles the rampaging sea dragon at Auguste Falls. After calming Leviathan, they encounter the Black Knight with a mysterious girl who can also absorb primal beast power, leading to new questions about Lyria's unique nature.

Lumacie Archipelago(Chapters 13-16)

Pursuing the Black Knight to the ancient forest of Lumacie, the crew encounters the enigmatic Rosetta, who claims to be a defenseless forest maiden but demonstrates extensive knowledge of the area's secrets. They find the mysterious girl Orchis at Sierokarte's shop and attempt to return her to the Black Knight, leading to encounters with Baragona the Scarlet Knight, who tests their strength. When they finally locate the Black Knight and Orchis at a sacred lake, the Black Knight forces Orchis to awaken the slumbering primal beast Yggdrasil. After defeating the massive tree-like creature and allowing it to return to rest, the crew receives an unexpected imperial proposal for peaceful negotiations at Albion Citadel.

Albion Citadel(Chapters 17-20)

The crew travels to the floating fortress city of Albion, where Katalina reunites with her former academy junior Vira, now the Lord of Albion. Major General Furias's offer of peace proves to be a deception to separate Katalina from the crew, offering her sacrifice to summon the primal beast Luminiera in exchange for their safety. Vira's obsessive devotion to Katalina is revealed as she manipulates both the empire and the crew to keep Katalina trapped on the island forever. After battling Vira and the primal beast Luminiera, the crew successfully frees both women from the binding power that imprisoned Vira on Albion, though Vira promises to continue pursuing Katalina now that she can leave freely. The crew decides to travel to Golonzo Island to repair the damaged Grandcypher.

Mist-Shourded Isle (Chapters 21-24)

While traveling to Golonzo Island for ship repairs, the crew becomes trapped on a fog-shrouded island cursed by the primal beast Celeste. They discover friendly zombie villagers who have been unable to die completely for a hundred years and meet Ferry, a lonely ghost girl who believes she summoned the curse with her desperate wish to hear her family's voices again. However, the crew uncovers that the true culprit was a traveling doctor who conducted primal beast experiments and merged with Celeste. After befriending Ferry and giving her a new name, they defeat the real Celeste and break the island's curse, allowing the villagers to pass on peacefully while Ferry remains behind with a new purpose.

Golonzo Island (Chapters 25-28)

At the airship maintenance hub of Golonzo Island, the crew encounters locals who remember Rackam and Eugen from years past. They meet Noa, a mysterious boy who reveals himself as a primal beast and creator of the Grandcypher, claiming the ship cannot leave until an ancient promise is fulfilled. When Prime Minister Freesia arrives and captures both Noa and Lyria, the crew must help Rackam recover his childhood memories of promising to fly with Noa. With the promise remembered and fulfilled, the Grandcypher is freed from the binding power of Mithra, allowing them to rescue Lyria. After defeating Mithra in a final battle, mysterious enforcers arrive requesting their assistance in questioning the captured Black Knight.

Amalthea Island (Chapters 29-32)

The crew travels to the Enforcers' base on Amalthea Island, where they reunite with Archduke Tzaka and discover the shocking truth that the Black Knight is Apollonia Vaar, Eugen's estranged daughter. When imperial forces launch an assault on the island, they learn that Prime Minister Freesia orchestrated the Black Knight's capture as part of a larger conspiracy, using her as a scapegoat while separating her from Orchis. Despite opposition from Crew of Enforcers captains Lecia and Monika, who view them as fugitives, the crew helps the Black Knight escape to rescue Orchis from the ancient capital of Mephorash on Ravi Island.

Former Capital Mephorash (Chapters 33-36)

The crew infiltrates the imperial blockade around Ravi Island and explores the ruins of Mephorash, the former capital of the Erste Kingdom. The Black Knight reveals her tragic past as an orphaned girl from Auguste who was educated in the royal court, where she befriended the cheerful Princess Orchis. She explains that Orchis was transformed into an emotionless "doll" ten years ago by a primal beast accident that killed her parents, and that she possesses half-Astral heritage through her father. Despite searching the royal palace extensively, they find no trace of Freesia or Orchis, forcing them to seek information elsewhere from Lecia, who challenges them to a rematch in exchange for revealing Freesia's location in the Lumacie Archipelago.

Lumacie Archipelago (Chapters 37-40)

Following Lecia's intelligence, the crew returns to Lumacie where they discover Freesia has laid a trap using the Enforcers as bait. The Black Knight reveals the archipelago's hidden history as a former Astral settlement and Freesia's true plan to use the legendary primal beast Akasha to rewrite history and erase the Astrals from existence. As they pursue Freesia deeper into ancient ruins, devastating truths emerge about Lyria's unique nature and the Black Knight's desperate plan to sacrifice Lyria to restore Orchis. The crisis culminates when Freesia awakens Akasha and forces Orchis to begin the activation process, but Orchis breaks free from control at the last moment. During their escape, a mysterious primal beast saves them from Freesia's corrupted Yggdrasil Malice, though Rosetta chooses to remain behind to care for the dying primal beast.

Amalthea Island (Chapters 41-44)

After escaping Lumacie with both Lyria and Orchis but losing the Black Knight and Rosetta, the crew struggles with their next move while dealing with the aftermath of their encounter with Yggdrasil Malice. When they arrive at Amalthea Island seeking information about Vyrn's origins, they discover the island has been occupied by the Erste Empire under Lieutenant General Gandharva, a former Enforcers captain seeking revenge. With Monika imprisoned and Lecia leading the resistance, the crew allies with the remaining Enforcers to retake the island. The crisis culminates when Lecia overcomes her self-doubt and defeats Gandharva, driving the imperial forces from Amalthea, though she is forced to resign her captaincy and join the Captain's crew as part of an ongoing alliance.

Hermit Island (Chapters 45-48)

Following disturbing prophecies about Vyrn found in Walfrid's travel journal, the crew returns to the Captain's home island to unlock Vyrn's sealed powers. They encounter Loki, who reveals himself as the last Astral and emperor of the Erste Empire, along with his primal beast companion Fenrir. When Major General Furias attacks the village with enhanced dark essence powers, Vyrn must overcome his fears about unlocking abilities that were deliberately sealed away. At an ancient shrine, Vyrn breaks the seal and gains the power to suppress dark essence while remaining fundamentally unchanged, allowing the crew to defeat Furias and save Zinkenstill from destruction.

Lumacie Archipelago (Chapters 49-54)

The crew returns to Lumacie to rescue Rosetta and stop Yggdrasil Malice from destroying itself with dark essence corruption. They discover Rosetta has revealed herself as the primal beast Rose Queen and merged her power with Yggdrasil to keep the corrupted primal under control. After successfully defeating both Rose Queen and Yggdrasil Malice with Vyrn's awakened powers, Rosetta reveals that she, Vyrn, and Walfrid once traveled with the Captain's father. Following intelligence from Drang about suspicious activity in the imperial capital, they travel to Agastia where General Adam makes the stunning request for them to destroy the Erste Empire itself.

Agastia (Chapters 55-62)

General Adam reveals Freesia's horrific plan to sacrifice millions of citizens in Agastia using the primal beast Deus Ex Machina to extract souls and convert them to pseudo-Astral energy for powering Akasha's activation. The crew discovers a secret facility filled with catatonic test subjects and learns that Deus Ex Machina was responsible for Princess Orchis losing her emotions ten years ago. With help from allied reinforcements including the Crew of Enforcers, Valtz Army, and Auguste agents, they assault the Tower while confronting corrupted primal beasts and imperial generals. The crisis culminates when Freesia becomes immortal through Mithra's binding power, but the crew uses Akasha to erase her dark essence and binding pledge rather than her existence, successfully ending the threat while preserving the prime minister's life and the current timeline.

Former Captial Mephorash (Chapter 63)

After escaping Agastia with the unconscious Freesia, the crew discovers that General Adam was actually a golem who dies after completing his mission to defend their ship. They bring Adam's body to Mephorash for burial, where the Black Knight challenges them to a final battle to determine Orchis's fate. When Orchis attempts to sacrifice herself to restore the original Princess Orchis, she instead gains a new body and identity as "Orchid" through Adam's preparations and Queen Orchis's intervention, allowing both versions to coexist peacefully. The story concludes with mysterious figures in Oarlyegrande discussing the aftermath and ordering surveillance of the Captain, Vyrn, and Lyria as the crew continues their journey toward Estalucia

A legendary primal beast created by the Astrals near the end of the War as their ultimate weapon. Possesses the terrifying power to interfere with history itself and rewrite the world as it exists.

Role

Was the target of Freesia's plan to rewrite history and erase the Astrals from existence. Was improperly activated when the crew attempted to use it against Freesia, causing it to begin erasing everyone from existence. Was properly reactivated by Lyria and Orchis after Vyrn restored everyone, ultimately being used to erase Freesia's dark essence and binding pledge rather than the prime minister herself.
