Code: S

The Crew of Enforcers raids a banquet attended by members of a criminal syndicate and arrests everyone involved. Later, McCoy is praised for his efforts in taking down the syndicate and offered a promotion, which he turns down in favor of a long-overdue vacation.

At a certain late-night salon...
Some guests drown themselves in fine liquor, others gorge on lavish food, and still others lose themselves in dance.
All across the venue, talk that never reaches the surface world drifts about.
In the heart of that revelry, a man and woman dance together in perfect step.
Noblewoman: Haha... How lovely. You really can do anything, can't you?
Emilios: You honor me with your praise. But your steps are equally impeccable, my lady.
Noblewoman: Among all the women you've danced with, how would you rank me?
Emilios: Making such comparisons would be bad form.
Emilios: Let's just say I can't think of another woman who can match my steps so flawlessly.
Noblewoman: So... In your eyes, I'm the finest woman of all?
Emilios: No.
Emilios: You are the finest woman of all not just to me, but to men everywhere.
Noblewoman: Heehee. Thank you.
Emilios: Hahaha. But do keep it from your husband, won't you?
Emilios: It wouldn't do for a mere secretary—newly hired, no less—to be your dance partner.
Noblewoman: Of course I understand. I wouldn't be free of consequences myself.
Noblewoman: Ah... If only this night could last forever...
Emilios: No, my lady. It is this very moment that is eternal.
Noblewoman: Emilios...
Emilios: My lady...
Enforcer: Nobody move! We're the Crew of Enforcers!
Enforcer: We've uncovered evidence of criminal trafficking! Everyone present is to be taken into custody!
Noblewoman: The Crew of Enforcers?
Bourgeois: What nonsense! This is my private residence! You're the suspicious intruders trespassing here!
Enforcer: We have government authorization. And we also have proof that you are an underworld organization engaged in organ trafficking.
Noblewoman: ...!
Bourgeois: Grk! So the government plans to cut us loose, does it?
Bourgeois: Guards! Drive these fools out!
Guard: Raaaagh!
Enforcer: Hah!
Guard: Ugh!
Enforcer: Resistance is futile. We'd prefer to resolve this peacefully.
Bourgeois: What are you useless guards standing around for! Secure our escape route!
Enforcer: ...
Shouts thunder and screams echo through the hall. The shadowed syndicate offers fierce resistance, met blow for blow by the Crew of Enforcers.
Smoke and shattered dishes fill the air, the once-elegant salon becoming a crucible of chaos...
Yet one by one, the Enforcers manage to seize all present.
Bourgeois: Damn it! Let go of me!
Bourgeois: You bastards! Who the hell leaked the ledger?
Noblewoman: Emilios! Where are you, Emilios!
Noblewoman: Emilioooos—
McCoy: Seriously? You were gonna stick me with prison rations too?
Arriet: I'm sorry. There was a mix-up, and the message never got to you. Not exactly leader material for the intelligence unit, am I.
McCoy: No need to beat yourself up... but when the boss doesn't keep things in order, it causes trouble.
McCoy: Ahh, ow, ow, ow... I held the act together till the end so as not to blow my cover, but...
McCoy: That investigation team doesn't pull its punches, huh. I didn't even resist, and they still beat me to a pulp.
Arriet: I'm really sorry, I mean it. They said they want to meet you properly and offer a formal apology.
Arriet: You brought in evidence of that syndicate we've been tracking—an organ-trafficking ledger—in just three months.
McCoy: Hard pass. A spy can't get involved with anyone in the organization. Can't reveal my position—not even to our own.
McCoy: Of course, there are exceptions.
Arriet: Huh. You really are uncompromising about that.
Arriet: ...
Arriet: Hey, McCoy. About that thing Monika mentioned—
McCoy: No.
Arriet: Why not?
McCoy: I'm a field man, you see. Retiring to train others is simply not for me.
Arriet: But your skills are exactly what the younger spies need. You're first-rate at everything.
McCoy: Skills aren't something you're taught. You watch and make them your own.
Arriet: Except you refuse to pair up with anyone in the unit. How are they supposed to learn if you won't let them watch you?
McCoy: Heh...
McCoy: You overestimate me, Ettie. I'm just a scavenger from the slums. I'm no mentor for the young.
Arriet: Is that so? You stack excuse upon excuse—field work, slum scavenger, this and that.
Arriet: Which means you're lying. What's the real reason? Why do you refuse to teach what you know?
McCoy: Wow...
McCoy: Guess there's no pulling the wool over your crystal-clear eyes, huh.
McCoy: Then answer me this. In this organ-trafficking case... how do you think I stole the ledger?
Arriet: Um...
McCoy: Wrong.
Arriet: What? I haven't even answered yet!
McCoy: You don't know. And to be fair, I can't explain it either.
McCoy: If I told you, as my superior officer, you'd have no choice but to discipline me.
Arriet: ...
McCoy: To be honest, my methods aren't much different from the criminal underworld's. The young must not follow in my footsteps.
Arriet: And you can't even explain why you go that far?
McCoy: Being a spy is my life itself. I forgot any other way of living a long time ago.
McCoy: Now then... Can I stop playing inmate and get back outside?
McCoy: I've got a vacation planned for the first time in a while. By this hour tomorrow, I'll be on the beaches of Auguste.
McCoy: Hehe... It's not prime season, but there'll still be plenty of women—
Spy Enforcer: McCoy! Sorry, but could you come right away?
McCoy: Huh?
McCoy, spy of the Enforcers, rarely shows his true feelings and so is shrouded in mystery. However...
His sense of duty toward his missions and his willingness to stake his life on them are undeniably genuine.
What urgent new assignment calls him back, just as his long-awaited vacation is about to begin?

Pulled Back In

McCoy's vacation plans are cut short when he and Arriet respond to an urgent situation: A recently captured syndicate member has escaped and is threatening suicide from a rooftop. McCoy takes special interest when he learns the fugitive is a woman he became acquainted with in his previous mission.

The emergency mission awaits...
What McCoy and the others are brought to is a holding facility buzzing with onlookers.
All crane their necks toward the sky with furrowed brows, whispering anxiously among themselves.
Spy Enforcer: The rooftop of this facility.
Arriet: I see. A member of the syndicate we wiped out the other day escaped and is now on the roof, shouting as if to threaten suicide.
Arriet: Up to speed so far, McCoy?
McCoy: Hwaaah... Yeah, yeah. I got it.
McCoy: So then... why am I being pulled into this?
Spy Enforcer: The syndicate still believes McCoy to be a mere secretary within their organization.
Spy Enforcer: So we were hoping you could use that to your advantage in talking down your fellow member.
McCoy: Talk down from what, exactly?
Spy Enforcer: Um... well... convince the individual to keep living, despite past crimes...
McCoy: Hmm... how one lives is a matter of personal freedom, you know. And of course, how one dies is as well.
Spy Enforcer: ...
Arriet: Hey.
McCoy: I know, I know.
McCoy: If someone under the Enforcers' custody escapes and then takes their own life, that reflects poorly on the organization, doesn't it?
Spy Enforcer: Uh...
Arriet: Uh... don't mind what he says. His head—and his hair—are both a little unique.
Spy Enforcer: O-oh...
McCoy: Still, I'm not keen on this. Negotiation isn't exactly a spy's job.
McCoy: Which means I'm just an amateur at it. If I have the option, I don't take missions I can't be confident in.
Arriet: But McCoy, there's no one else who can save her.
McCoy: Well, who knows. Time spent in prison is harsh—
McCoy: Her?
Spy Enforcer: Yes. The escapee is the wife of the syndicate's accountant.
McCoy: You don't say...
McCoy: ...
McCoy: All right. I'll go.
Arriet: Really? That's a relief!
Spy Enforcer: Thank you! Please excuse us for a moment while we prepare—
McCoy stands there blankly, and before he can react, handcuffs are snapped around both his wrists.
McCoy: Handcuffs?
Arriet: You're still playing a member of the syndicate. To her, you're the accountant's secretary.
Arriet: I'll take you up to the roof under escort, and then you can calm her down with a bit of smooth talking, all right?
McCoy: You make it sound easy.
Arriet: Negotiation 101: Don't say anything that might provoke her. Calm her down first and create an opening.
McCoy: And then... we arrest her again.
Arriet: We may be dismantling the syndicate, but that doesn't mean we want to take lives.
Arriet: That discussion can wait for another time.
Arriet: Come on, let's go.
McCoy: About time.

Pulled Back In: Scene 2

On the rooftop, the woman insists she is innocent. Arriet orders McCoy to pretend he is still a syndicate ally and talk her down, but McCoy instead reveals that he is a spy for the Crew of Enforcers.

Noblewoman: Why am I being arrested!
Noblewoman: I only did what my husband told me to do with the ledger!
Noblewoman: I'd rather die than go to prison!
On the rooftop of the holding facility, the escaped noblewoman sobs and screams, repeating the same claims over and over.
A crowd of onlookers gathers below, and it is painfully clear that the Enforcers' reputation and responsibility now rest squarely on McCoy's shoulders.
Noblewoman: Organ trafficking? I had no idea... I swear!
Noblewoman: It makes no sense to arrest me!
Noblewoman: This is far too cruel! The Enforcers are abusing their power—this is overreach, I say!
Noblewoman: Who's there!
Arriet: Madam. I'm with the Crew of Enforcers.
Arriet: Please calm down and listen to what I have to say.
Noblewoman: Don't come any closer!
Arriet: Madam, I'm not your enemy. In this situation, neither of us stands to gain.
Arriet: Please, for the sake of resolving this peacefully—
Noblewoman: Don't come any closer! I'll jump!
Arriet: ...
Arriet: Please, McCoy...
McCoy: ...
Noblewoman: Emilios? Emilios, is that you?
Arriet: Emilios?
McCoy: Sounds cool, doesn't it?
Noblewoman: Oh, Emilios! I thought the Enforcers had gotten to you... I'm so glad you're alive!
Arriet: Emilios has been reflecting on his actions, on how he indirectly aided the syndicate.
Arriet: That's why, madam, there must still be a path for you to reform and continue living as well.
Arriet: Isn't that right, Emilios?
McCoy: ...
Arriet: McCoy?
McCoy: Madam. I am a spy for the Enforcers.
Noblewoman: ...!
Arriet: Wh-what!
McCoy: Your words, your gaze, your every gesture told me where the ledger was hidden.
McCoy: In fact, I'm the one who stole the ledger.
McCoy: My apologies.
Noblewoman: Huh... ah...

Pulled Back In: Scene 3

Furious at McCoy's confession, the woman attacks him, but Arriet stops her and prevents the suicide. While being taken away, she vows revenge. His intention was revealed to be giving her a reason to live to go after him. Case closed, McCoy once again heads off for vacation.

Noblewoman: Hey, Mr. Secretary. How about this ring?
McCoy: It's embedded with a gemstone of the highest quality. You can tell it was polished by a master craftsman.
McCoy: However, it signifies "innocence" in the language of gems... which may be a bit much for a friend's wedding.
Noblewoman: Oh? The language of gems... I suppose that innocence belongs to the bride herself, after all.
Noblewoman: Thank you. What was your name again?
Noblewoman: So, Emilios? Such a rich, velvety wine, is it not?
McCoy: Indeed. Yet it's also generous and unpretentious. It reminds me of my hometown.
Noblewoman: Your hometown?
McCoy: Santavia Island. Its people live proud, traditional lives, though their rural roots give them a rather easygoing side.
Noblewoman: Wait a moment... Santavia Island? I'm from there too—
McCoy: Huh? Don't tell me you're from the same place?
Noblewoman: The sea breeze feels wonderful... it's hard to believe how lively the beach was earlier.
McCoy: It is. It would have been even nicer if your husband were here as well.
Noblewoman: Honestly? This sort of thing is lost on him.
Noblewoman: He's always buried in work, and I know he has a mistress. Our marriage may as well be over.
McCoy: My lady...
Noblewoman: Emilios... would you ever consider returning to Santavia with me?
Noblewoman: The two of us could make wine together—an even finer wine than the one we drank that day.
McCoy: ...
Noblewoman: Heehee. Just kidding. I have no intention of abandoning this life now.
Noblewoman: Jewels, dresses, and salons—Santavia has none of those.
Noblewoman: Though there are things Santavia has that aren't here...
Noblewoman: Emilios? I don't understand what you're saying...
McCoy: Emilios? The name's McCoy.
Noblewoman: An alias? Then does that mean being from Santavia Island was also—
McCoy: Of course. Wine tastes awful, you see. Cheap liquor suits me just fine.
Arriet: Hey, McCoy!
Noblewoman: ...
Noblewoman: Ahaha... ahahahaha.
Noblewoman: I'm such an idiot... of all people, to fall for a spy...
Noblewoman: I choose death!
Arriet: ...!
McCoy: Now, now, my lady. Jumping off here wouldn't be very tasteful.
McCoy: We wouldn't want to involve the bystanders. I'll guide you to a more suitable building.
Noblewoman: Huh?
McCoy: You want to die, don't you? I owe you one, after all. I came fully prepared to see you off properly.
McCoy: Now then, my lady—this way to the rooftop on the corner of the street.
Noblewoman: ...
Turning away from the precipice...
The noblewoman advances toward McCoy in a furious stride.
McCoy: Nghooh!
Arriet: Th-that was... right in the groin—
Noblewoman: You damn con artist! Don't screw with me, you bastard!
Noblewoman: I'll get my revenge on you someday, I swear it!
Noblewoman: I'll be a model prisoner, get out as fast as I can, and then I'll rip your damn balls off!
Noblewoman: Don't you forget!
McCoy: Oooff...
Arriet: Get her! Secure the lady at once!
McCoy: Ow, ow, ow, ow... I'll be feeling that one for a while...
Arriet: You're a such a fool, you know that? There were other ways you could've talked her down.
Arriet: You went out of your way to make her hate you just to give her a reason to keep living, didn't you?
McCoy: Who knows. I don't owe that much courtesy to villains.
Arriet: But McCoy, your hometown—
McCoy: It's an island with a huge gap between the rich and poor. I've never met her in my life.
Arriet: ...
McCoy: Well then, vacation, vacation. I'll be extending it by one day, at least.
Spy Enforcer: McCoy, we have an emergency assignment!
McCoy: Whaaat...
Emergency mission issued by Monika, acting commander of the Fourth Fleet of the Enforcers.
The intelligence unit is to infiltrate the legendary island of Agartha.
Once again, McCoy's long-awaited vacation is postponed, and though he complains bitterly, his eyes are filled with curiosity and passion.
