Happy Birthday Cutscenes
# Link Text
1 ✔

Birthdays are said to be very special customs to skydwellers.
What seems like a short leap to me is a long road for you.
Yatima will celebrate each and every one of your birthdays with you for as long as we're together.
Yatima wishes you a happy birthday.

2 ✔

Yatima: Your age has increased once again, (Captain).
Skydwellers age surprisingly quickly.
Do not worry, though. Yatima's memories contain images of Alan at every age.
You will soon be covered in wrinkles and gray hair, just like Alan.
Raybury: I'm not sure I like you having all those images of the mistakes I made as a child.
Yatima: They are precious memories to Yatima. They were properly recovered during the calibration of my memory stores.
I will remember you as well, no matter how much you age.

Happy New Year Cutscenes
# Link Text
1 ✔

Today marks day one of the next year for skydwellers.
Considering four centuries feels short on the moondweller timescale, one four-hundredth of that goes by in the blink of an eye.
But Yatima understands the logic behind embracing moments because of how fleeting they are.
If you want Yatima to celebrate with you, then Yatima will do so.
Happy... New Year.

2 ✔

Yatima: Happy New Year. Was that correct, (Captain)? Alan?
Raybury: It is, yes, but... I'm surprised that you're able to understand the whole concept of the New Year.
Yatima: Yatima said that she will celebrate if (Captain) wishes it.
Even if that moment passes in a single instant for Yatima, that moment is constantly remembered.
Therefore, it is not without meaning. One year's passage of time has accumulated within me.
Partitioning is very important, is it not?
Raybury: Setting an intentional boundary within a continuous consciousness... Skydwellers call that a milestone.
That means Yatima has also learned to celebrate milestones. That's what this is about, (Captain).
Definitely give her some praise. Let her remember the moment with joy.

Valentine's Day Cutscenes
# Link Text
1 ✔

Yatima: Yatima made chocolate creations. That appears to be the custom for Valentine's Day.
The components of chocolate are cacao and sugar.
Chocolate is a rarity on the moon, but not so much in the skies. How did it become a gift to be given?
Raybury: Your guess is as good as mine. It's the thought that counts, you know?
Yatima: I do not know, Alan.
Raybury: Gift-giving is a form of expressing one's feelings, so a gift is like a manifestation of your thoughts toward someone special in your life.
Yatima: How do you refine those thoughts into a physical product?
Raybury: I'm not sure how to answer that. I suppose you could reminisce about the recipient as you make their chocolate.
Yatima: Hm... Then I'll do just that.
Just wait, (Captain).
Yatima will gift you chocolate infused with her feelings.

2 ✔

(Captain). It's Valentine's Day.
Yatima prepared chocolate. Here you are.
Quality is assured. Ingredients and cooking processes of retail goods were analyzed and copied exactly.
However, one question remains: Why do skydwellers prefer them to be handmade?
Yatima can analyze and copy the process, but skydwellers cannot. There is a risk of failure.
Yet, somehow... They seem to enjoy themselves after failing.
Is this act... also a form of emotion?

White Day Cutscenes

1 ✔

It seems that White Day is the inverse of Valentine's Day—reciprocation for those who had given a gift previously.
Waiting for today to arrive felt familiar to me.
It felt the same as the time Yatima waited to go back to the moon.
Yatima has been waiting and waiting... with anticipation.
Now then. What have you prepared for Yatima?

2 ✔

Raybury: Just a moment, (Captain). I need your help with something.
Yatima: Alan would like to give Yatima a gift for White Day.
Raybury: That about sums it up, but... I'm stuck here on Yatima's head.
I can't exactly ask her to buy her own gift. That's why I need you.
Choose: Leave it to me!
Yatima: Yatima and Alan will both be grateful.
Oh, I am very curious. What sort of present will you and Alan get?
Raybury: We need to make this count. Lead the way, (Captain).

Query. Do you know where the pumpkin in your room went?
...
The answer is in Yatima's hand.
Yatima compressed it down to the size of an acorn with a single squeeze.
Trick or treat.
This concludes Yatima's trick for not giving her treats.

Happy Holidays Cutscenes

Yatima: Alan. Why does Santa Claus bring children presents?
Raybury: Santa's caught your interest, has he?
Yatima: Yes, I want to learn more.
Raybury: Well, while I personally don't know what motivates him, it's probably safe to say he has a fondness for bringing kids joy.
Yatima: There are records stating that a child has to be "nice" in order to get a present. Does Santa know how every child in the Sky Realm is behaving?
Raybury: It... does seem that way.
Yatima: A single person can process such a massive amount of data by themselves?
Raybury: That's right. I'm guessing Santa has some kind of special ability that no ordinary skydweller possesses.
Yatima: How does he prepare that volume of presents? Is someone funding him?
Raybury: Unfortunately, I don't think there's any skydweller who knows the actual truth.
Yatima: How does he deliver every present across the entire realm in one night? Isn't that physically impossible?
Raybury: Hm... Maybe he has an ability to compress time and space.
Yatima: The Sky Realm is full of perplexities.
Alan, will Santa Claus visit Yatima?
Raybury: Yes, I'm sure he will.
Yatima: Then Yatima will strive to maintain her designation as "nice."

2 ✔

Yatima: Yatima has heard that people give presents to those close to them. Santa is not the only one giving gifts.
I would like to give you a gift if I can.
However... Yatima does not know what you would like. It is difficult to choose.
Today will be used for preliminary fieldwork. I shall investigate the things you enjoy.
Is that difficult to understand? Yatima believes the skydwellers refer to it as a date.
Why has your heartrate suddenly increased? That word simply refers to close partners going out together.
Raybury: Sorry, (Captain). As you can see, she doesn't really understand nuances like that.
Well, maybe you can humor her for a bit? I'll be coming along, as well.

Blue Skies Through Red Eyes

In a time long since passed, Yatima arrives in the Sky Realm to collect data on primal beasts. She overclocks herself in order to record the sheer amount of information in the skies, but doing so shortens her lifespan. She makes a request to the moon to temporarily pause her mission. While Yatima waits for a response she knows won't come before her life ends, she meets a young boy.

In an era long before the ascent of skydwellers...
To a time that predates the Astrals' departure from the Sky Realm...
Far, far beyond the reach of wispy white tendrils, there hangs the moon, a world little changed from what it is today.
Yatima: ...
Upon that gray surface, which looks down on the sky's inhabitants, stands a structure that keeps a red-haired girl.
Yatima: ...
Through a seemingly endless stretch of sterile white she strides, eventually coming to a halt in front of a large door.
Yatima: Tayami, nerugestiq sascec.
The sounds from her mouth are acknowledged, and the door opens on its own.
She takes a few steps into the sprawling room before abruptly stopping to touch a part of her outfit.
Yatima: Multilingual converter activated. Fossil language selected.
Having remembered to complete this small task, the girl is ready to move on, though not before the door she had just walked through opens again.
Ellis: Hello, Yatima.
She turns around with disinterest, expressing no surprise for the unexpected visitor.
Yatima: Ellis. What are you doing here?
Ellis: To see you off on your trip.
Yatima: There's no need to. Yatima isn't going there for recreation.
Ellis: I know, I know. The surveys are for facilitating our inevitable return to the skies.
Ellis: What do they call relic servant beasts again? Primal beasts?
Yatima: Yes. Even though the beasts shouldn't pose a significant threat to us, they still warrant study.
Ellis: Yeah, just sending over automagods wasn't getting the job done.
Ellis: Too bad I didn't make the final cut... I was really interested in going...
Yatima: There will be additional screenings. I won't be the only surveyor.
Ellis: Sure, but in the meantime, what am I supposed to do for the next three hundred years?
Yatima: Three centuries will pass by in a flash.
Her words bear no consolation—they're purely neutral in tone. The girl turns her back to Ellis.
Yatima: It's nearing launch time. I have to go.
Ellis: So long, Yatima. If I ever see you again, it'll be in a thousand years.
Leaving Ellis and his valediction behind, the girl climbs into a spherical vehicle.
Yatima: ...
As the pod settles into position for launch, a speckle of color—vivid blue against a backdrop of black—is visible through its small window.
Yatima: There's the sky...
Emotions ranging from apprehension to elation, and in particular, the sorrow of a protracted separation from one's homeland...
None seem present in the pair of ruby-red eyes that gaze out at the strange world, nor in the words the girl had softly uttered.
Yatima: ...!
Upon landing at her destination, Yatima climbs out of the spent pod and sets foot on firm yet forgiving soil.
Yatima: I'm in the Sky Realm...
She stands on a carpet of budding green beneath a ceiling of endless blue.
Sweeping winds tousle plants and shape clouds, crafting dynamic landscapes.
It's a living, breathing world that changes by the second.
Yatima: This is nothing like the moon at all.
Although Yatima has prior knowledge of how the two worlds differ, experiencing the skies in person is still overwhelming to her senses.
Yatima: I'll have to gather and archive my findings about everything, not just the primal beasts.
Determined to record all the sights and sounds of her surroundings, she takes her first small steps in the Sky Realm.
Yatima: (There are so many individuals here, but what's more impressive is the high crowd density.)
Yatima: ...!
Pedestrian: Oops. Pardon me.
Yatima: Yes... "Pardon me."
Each person in this town seems to move with a purpose, as if they're in a rush to get something done.
With every twist of her head, Yatima observes something new, and soon she's inundated with data.
Shop Clerk: Yoo-hoo! You there.
Yatima spots a woman waving for her to come over.
Shop Clerk: Haven't seen you 'round these parts before. You a traveler?
Yatima: Yes. I'm traveling. I just arrived at this settlement.
Shop Clerk: I knew it! Welcome! My fruits are the pride and joy of our town, you know. Care to try some?
Yatima: Fruit... Hm...
Yatima: (Fruit appears to be a type of food. This is probably a retail establishment, in which case, currency is required in exchange for goods...)
Shop Clerk: Haha, don't think too hard there, hun. I'd never charge for a sample. Here, open wide.
Yatima: Mmph!
The woman holds out a plate with toothpick-skewered pieces of fruit. Yatima takes one and slips a juicy morsel into her mouth.
Yatima: Water and sugar components detected. It has the flavor profile of sweetness but also trace amounts of sourness.
Shop Clerk: So what do we think? Yummy? Do you like it?
Yatima: (Flavor... This is my first encounter with flavored nutrients. Sustenance on the moon doesn't stimulate the taste receptors like this, so how should I respond...)
Yatima: There's no rejection response. Actually, I like it. In other words, it is... yummy?
Shop Clerk: Phew! Had me worried there for a sec!
Shop Clerk: So how long do you plan on staying with us?
Yatima: The plan is to stay for one thousand years.
The woman's eyes bulge before she bursts into a fit of laughter.
Shop Clerk: Ahahaha! Oh... My sides... That joke was just too good.
Yatima: (Oh, that's right. Skydwellers perceive time on a vastly different scale.)
Shop Clerk: Well, wouldn't be a stretch for an Astral, I guess. Not that I've ever met one myself.
Shop Clerk: Er... Are you an Astral?
Yatima: No. Yatima is not an Astral.
Shop Clerk: Right, didn't think so. Phew, false alarm. Just a joke.
Yatima: Yes. I was "joking."
Shop Clerk: It's kinda crazy if you think about it. Living for a thousand years?
Shop Clerk: What would the world look like that far into the future? I can't even imagine something like that.
Yatima: Yes... Hard to imagine.
The woman's question conjures up visions of the moon in Yatima's head.
Yatima: (It seems unlikely that the moon would change even after one thousand years, but as for the skies...)
Yatima can't predict how the Sky Realm will turn out by the end of a millennium.
Yatima: That is how my mission in the Sky Realm began.
Yatima: All of the contrasts between the skies and the moon were bewildering.
Yatima: I didn't limit my research to my primary subject, the primal beasts—I recorded enormous volumes of data about everything.
Yatima: I made it a priority to acclimate to the speed of the Sky Realm.
Yatima: Events that take centuries to transpire on the moon occur in a matter of days here. Sometimes hours.
Yatima: I accelerated my temporal awareness even further to boost data collection for the mission.
Yatima: My memory was constantly reading, writing, analyzing, and overwriting, again and again.
Yatima: As a result of overclocking my memory, it drained my lifespan at an alarming rate.
Yatima: ...
────: Actrilic omymer rerro. Ckech nimerangi alitapenoro miet.
Yatima: Another one...
The deterioration of Yatima's memory stores has entered a phase where catastrophic failure is a possibility.
Yatima: ...
Countless skydweller lifetimes have come and gone since the start of her mission.
The War, seen as a minor squabble in the eyes of Yatima and her moondweller brethren, has ended, and the Astrals are gone.
Yatima: (The War provided me with a wealth of combat data on the primal beasts.)
Yatima: (Although the Astrals have withdrawn, primal beasts remain. Therefore my mission isn't over yet.)
Yatima: (However...)
────: Tengur retamtent derqurei ot dexent itapenoro.
Yatima: Ngh...
Her thoughts keep getting interrupted by nagging alerts of self-preservation.
And the only way to clear the alerts is to return to the moon for a procedure to prolong her life.
Yatima: (My request to put the mission on standby and temporarily return to the moon has been submitted.)
Yatima: (But since this operation was expected to last a few more centuries, it might take a minimum of one century to receive a response.)
Yatima can see the writing on the wall.
At this rate, she'll cease to function before any answer from Central Axis arrives.
Yatima: ...
Even so, Yatima diligently continues her mission while waiting for a moon message that may never come.
In her mind, that's all she can do.
────: Actrilic omymer rerro. Ckech nimerangi alitapenoro miet.
Yatima: Guh...
────: Tengur retamtent derqurei ot dexent itapenoro.
But sometimes the intensity of the chronic alerts knocks her out of action.
Yatima: I can't remain in the skies any longer.
Backed into a corner by her dire situation, she stares helplessly at the pale orb in the night sky.
Yatima: The moon...
Yatima stretches out her hand as far as it will go.
She can see it so clearly, that lunar sphere hanging right above her as if it had been painted there, but she knows it's beyond her reach.
Yatima: ...
When Yatima tries to touch the moon, her fingers pass through nothingness, fluttering in the cold night air.
Yatima: Why do I...
There's a tightness in her chest. Is it homesickness? Panic?
Were Yatima a skydweller, one could say those would be the emotions that grip her.
Yatima: I have to hurry back to the moon... I have to... Because if I don't...
The muffled rustling of grass coming from behind her catches her attention, and she turns around slowly.
Young Boy: Um...
A boy emerges from the darkness, illuminated by pale lunar light.
Young Boy: Who... are you?
Yatima: ...
A fateful meeting is set to take place on a grassy hill under the moon.
A meeting between two people from two opposite worlds.

Once in a Blue Moon

Yatima meets a boy named Alandus, whose interest in the moon only grows the more Yatima tells him about her home. When he learns that she's unable to return, he vows to help her find a way to go back.

Young Boy: Who... are you?
Yatima: ...
Yatima blinks several times before finally answering back.
Yatima: I'm Yatima.
Young Alandus: I'm Alan... Alandus.
Yatima: Alan Alandus?
Young Alandus: Nah, just Alandus. But lotsa people call me Alan.
Yatima: As in a nickname. Yatima is Yatima.
Young Alandus: Got it. Uh, so where are you from, Yatima?
The girl swings her gaze to the starry sky and points upward.
Yatima: ...
The moon.
In the centuries since first landing in the skies, Yatima had never revealed her greatest secret to a single soul.
She couldn't. Such a breach of secrecy was impermissible.
Under normal circumstances, she never would've leaked this information.
Young Alandus: Wait, the moon moon? You came from there?
This boy, his face overcome with surprise, doesn't appear to pose a threat to Yatima nor the moon.
Maybe it's because she thinks him harmless, or maybe her degraded risk processor is acting erroneously, but she decides to keep talking.
Yatima: Look. That's my home.
Despite telling the truth, Yatima waits for the inevitable reaction.
Yatima: (He won't believe me. Not with a sky's frame of mind.)
Every time Yatima had mentioned her millennium-long intended stay in the Sky Realm to skydwellers, it was laughed off as a joke.
To them, the moon may as well be nothing more than a dim lamp that switches on once the sun goes down.
Surely no one could inhabit that distant object that no one on record has ever been able to reach.
Young Alandus: So people do live on the moon! That's awesome!
And yet this boy is filled with wonder, no doubt his imagination running wild.
Young Alandus: So how come you're here?
Yatima: I'm unable to return to the moon.
The boy tilts his head in confusion.
Young Alandus: But it's right there. I can see it.
Yatima: Just because you can see it doesn't mean it's reachable.
Young Alandus: Yeah... Good point... No matter how much I walk toward it, I never seem to get any closer.
Young Alandus: When was the last time you went back?
Yatima: I haven't returned to the moon since I first arrived here. It's been hundreds of years.
Young Alandus: Whoa... That's like forever!
Yatima: ...
Young Alandus: You must miss it then, huh? Bet that's why you came to this hill to moongaze.
Yatima: "Miss it" wouldn't be correct but... My wish is to return. Necessity demands it.
Young Alandus: Except you can't...
Yatima: That's right.
The alerts that warn Yatima of her eventual shutdown haven't ceased during this conversation.
The alerts—as they were designed to do—will persist until Yatima receives lifesaving treatment on the moon.
Her face contorts in discomfort from the blaring notifications, though she herself is unaware of the grimaces she's making.
Young Alandus: I'm... sorry you're going through all this.
Young Alandus: So... what's it like on the moon? How'd you get here? There's no way an airship can make a trip like that, can it?
Young Alandus: You said you've been here for hundreds of years, so that means moon people live for a real long time, right? That's pretty cool. How's that work?
Yatima: ...
Yatima doesn't know how to begin addressing the boy's unbridled curiosity.
Yatima: The moon is... barren compared to the Sky Realm.
Yatima: There's no blue in the sky, no green vegetation. Only dust and rocks.
Yatima attempts to answer the boy's barrage of moon questions one by one.
By day, the surface is as hot as boiling water. By night, it's a frozen wasteland.
Moondweller bodies are largely augmented with machine components, which grants them longevity far surpassing that of skydwellers.
These facts and more are provided by Yatima.
Young Alandus: Wow... The moon is nothing like the skies at all!
The boy has been hanging on Yatima's every word. With no more questions to ask for the moment, he bites his lip in hesitation before speaking his mind.
Young Alandus: I... Let me help you, Yatima.
The girl is puzzled by the boy's sudden seriousness.
Yatima: Help me? Help me with what?
Young Alandus: I'm gonna help you find a way back to the moon.
Yatima: ...!
Yatima: Why? How? What do you gain from helping me?
Yatima can be forgiven for her incredulity; how could a child who's barely experienced his own world hope to aid her?
Young Alandus: I can't really tell you why, because I honestly don't know myself...
The boy sounds slightly miffed, but he's not about to give up.
Young Alandus: I just know I wanna try.
Something about the boy's words manages to drown out the alerts ringing in Yatima's head.
His eyes seem to twinkle, like jewels reflecting the light of the moon and stars. Acknowledging his sincerity, Yatima nods.
Yatima: Okay. Please help Yatima.
Then she smiles. Awkwardly, but a smile nonetheless.
Yatima: Thank you.
The boy instantly breaks into a smile of his own.
And through this exchange, the girl comes to understand the meaning of expressing joy with another.

Once in a Blue Moon: Scene 2

Yatima and Alandus strengthen their bonds as they search for automagods, which may help Yatima return to the moon. During their travels, the duo gains new allies, and the group eventually becomes the Society. However, Yatima's condition has deteriorated to the point where she's only able to communicate with Alandus. If Yatima's wish to complete her mission and keep traveling with her Society friends is to come true, she must return to the moon for repairs before it's too late.

Alandus made Yatima a promise.
Young Alandus: I'm gonna help you find a way back to the moon.
The first thing Alandus does is bring Yatima to his house.
Explaining to his parents why he brought an unknown girl home with him is not an easy task.
They're understandably suspicious of the stranger and challenge her with many questions.
Through a combination of Alandus's stubborn arguments and Yatima's simple but cooperative answers...
The parents eventually relent and allow Yatima to stay.
Young Alandus: Geez... Mom and Dad worry about everything. I wish I was a grown-up already.
This is something Alandus has been griping about at every given opportunity.
Yatima: Don't worry. You'll be one soon.
Young Alandus: Soon, soon, soon. That's what you always say.
There's audible frustration in Alandus's voice.
But that doesn't change the fact that Yatima is right, at least from her perspective.
Young Alandus: Well, guess there's no way around it seeing how you and I perceive things on different timescales.
The boy, who has already begun adopting some of Yatima's terminology, takes her hand.
Young Alandus: Your hand feels warm just like mine. See, stuff like that makes me wonder how we can be so different.
Yatima: Our exteriors mimic the organic structure of skydwellers. Furthermore, machines do give off some form of heat.
Young Alandus: Huh... Interesting.
At first they use Alandus's home as their base while expanding their investigations little by little.
The journey these two are embarking on will be a long one, with a finish line that seems impossibly far away.
Young Alandus: So I've been thinking... It might be a good idea to go look for those automagod things.
Yatima: Why?
Young Alandus: I don't know anything about them obviously, but they came from the moon, right?
Young Alandus: Maybe we'll learn something useful by examining one.
Yatima: That sounds logical.
Yatima had never even considered tracking down automagods since they had no connection to her mission parameters.
Yatima: You're smart, Alan.
Young Alandus: Hehe, just keep feeding me info about the moon and its machines. That's the fastest way to get you back home.
Yatima: Mm. Okay.
Young Alandus: Hey, I know I already asked, but... you're not gonna get in trouble for what we're doing, are you?
Young Alandus: This has nothing to do with the mission Central Axis gave you. Wouldn't it count as breaking the rules?
Yatima: In terms of my mission...
Yatima mulls over the point Alandus brought up. After some hesitation, she draws a conclusion that sounds reasonable to her.
Yatima: The procedure to extend Yatima's life is an urgent prerequisite for continuing Yatima's mission.
Yatima: That procedure can only be performed on the moon.
Yatima: Therefore searching with Alan for a way back to the moon doesn't conflict with the mission's parameters.
To Alandus, it sounds as if Yatima is skirting the truth, but he lets it slide and offers a small smile.
Young Alandus: Well, good, if that's the case. Let's make sure we get you that procedure.
The girl nods, and the corners of her mouth curl up ever so slightly.
Young Alandus: Aha! You smiled.
Yatima: Yes, I did. Yatima knows how to smile.
Young Alandus: I know, I've seen it before, but this one's different. Your smiles are getting more natural these days.
Yatima: They're natural?
Yatima pokes at her cheeks inquisitively.
Alandus can't help but laugh at the sight of Yatima kneading her face.
Young Alandus: Ahaha! Stretch out that smile, Yatima.
Young Alandus: It's more fun when you smile big, and there's nothing more adorable than a happy face.
Alandus gives Yatima's hand a squeeze.
His small hand feels warm and, more than anything, comforting.
And even though his hand is the source of the heat, oddly enough, she feels a hint of warmth in her chest as well.
As the duo travel on, not only do they encounter primal beasts, they also run across conflicts of mankind's own making.
Given how easily Yatima stacks up to primals in combat, skydwellers have no hope of defeating her.
Whenever Alandus sees a conflict he wishes to resolve, Yatima is happy to help without question.
Young Alandus: Thanks, Yatima.
Yatima: No problem. Yatima will grant Alan's wishes.
But no matter how many conflicts they stop, more take their place.
Woman: I can't believe our own neighbor dumped poison into the water well. You can't trust anybody these days!
Elderly Keeper: We've watched over this here primal beast shrine for generations. Don't you dare corrupt our traditions.
Little Girl: They said if I brought them the warehouse key, they'd get Mom's medicine for me!
It's clear there are certain individuals employing crafty, though crude, tactics aimed at riling people's emotions.
Young Alandus: You can always count on someone to make life miserable for someone else.
Yatima: Yes. And it is spreading.
Young Alandus: Spreading? What makes you say that?
Yatima: From a broad view, they look like isolated incidents. But when the details are scrutinized, a nebulous common denominator emerges.
Yatima: Which is, some people are acting under a shared ideology to ignite discord.
Young Alandus: For what reason?
Yatima: I currently have no theories as to why. But stopping that discord is easy.
Yatima doesn't regard the unknown conspirators as significant threats, even if they were to collude in large numbers.
Nevertheless, when it comes to identifying and sharing info about these shadowy instigators, it's worthwhile to give them a label.
For the sake of ease, Yatima and Alandus name this collective "the Foe."
Man: Thank you so, so much! Seriously, I can't thank you enough!
Many people are grateful to Yatima and Alandus for bringing resolution to the turmoil stirred up by the Foe.
Man: What if... Ahem, I don't mean to intrude, but I'd be more than happy to help out with your travels if you'll have me.
Sometimes those they aid even express a desire to join them.
Yatima: If Alan says it's okay.
Young Alandus: Hm... Sounds good to me. Strength in numbers, as the saying goes.
Day by day, more and more people ally themselves with Yatima and Alandus.
As the group expands in size, a hierarchy takes shape with defined roles and rules. They begin to operate like a team. Like an organization.
Like a "society."
That would become the group's chosen moniker going forward.
Alandus: We have reports of a primal beast on the island up ahead, Yatima.
Yatima: Let us investigate. Yatima's mission is to survey primal beasts.
The Society spends its days combating the Foe, researching primal beasts, and recovering automagods.
On the surface, those are the reasons for the Society's existence.
In truth, everything the organization does is for the sake of sending Yatima back to the moon.
This is a truth known only to Yatima and Alandus.
Ally 1: Wonder if we could get these automagods to work for us... Maybe as weapons?
Ally 2: Thanks, Yatima. You saved our behinds again.
For every thanks she receives, for every new member who enters the fold, Yatima's chest swells with warmth.
It's the same warmth she feels from Alandus's hand, and the same warmth she feels when he smiles.
Yatima: You don't have to thank me. Yatima is just doing what Yatima can.
By now, Yatima has long tuned out the pestering alerts urging her to seek lifesaving care.
But simply ignoring the alarm bells won't make the underlying problem go away.
Yatima: Automagod... Moon. Relic servant beasts are... my mission.
Ally 1: Relic what now? Are you feeling okay, Yatima?
Alandus: Oh, don't mind her. She must be a smidge tired is all.
Yatima: ...
Alandus: Come on, Yatima. Let's get you back to base so you can rest.
Alandus: How's the condition of the automagod after integration, Yatima?
Yatima: Unable to confirm. But this isn't detrimental to me.
Alandus: Okay... Hopefully this will keep you stabilized for a bit...
Ultimately, Yatima is cloistered deep within the Society's facilities where she remains out of sight and out of commission.
The advanced degradation of her memory makes interacting with others difficult, thus it was deemed necessary to isolate her.
Aside from the automagods bestowed to a few trusted agents in the form of seal weapons, the remaining automatons collected by the Society are fed to Yatima.
This last-ditch effort to restore some functionality to her diminished capabilities doesn't seem to provide any visible improvement.
Alandus: I suppose that's it then. Getting her back to the moon was the only solution all along.
As Alandus mutters to himself, two ruby-red eyes look up at him.
Yatima: The promise, Alan. I want to... go back.
That is Yatima's only request.
Alandus: Yes, I promised I would take you home. I know you can't afford to wait, but please give me more time, Yatima.
Yatima: Have a safe trip, Alan.
Alandus: Thanks. I'll be back soon.
Wishing Alandus good luck and bidding him farewell is all she can do now. If only she could return to the moon, everything would turn out okay. Things would go back to the way they were.
Then she could keep traveling again with everyone in the Society—the home away from home she built with Alandus.
And maybe then she could finally complete her mission.

Once in a Blue Moon: Scene 3

Cassius's arrival to the Sky Realm is the catalyst that sends Yatima home. After becoming an automagod, Alandus is reassembled as Raybury, allowing him to finally transport Yatima to the moon. In the present day, Yatima thanks Raybury as she gazes at the Sky Realm, and she eagerly awaits their next adventure in the world of blue.

Alandus: Yatima.
Yatima: ...
Alan.
Alandus: How are you feeling?
Yatima: No problem. If Yatima goes back to the moon, Yatima can complete the mission.
Alandus: I see... Why don't we go for a walk? It's been some time since you last stepped foot outside.
Alandus: I can't help but wonder about the pod you flew in to get here.
Alandus: It's a shame we haven't managed to recover it.
Yatima: Recover it... Recover data. Analysis. The mission...
Alandus: That's right. Not only would the pod help with our research, but it might have received a transmission from the moon, yes?
Yatima: Accounting for margin of error, a response from the moon will take approximately another forty years...
Alandus: So you've said. But I don't know if—never mind, let's take that walk, Yatima.
Leading Yatima by the hand, Alandus guides her outside the Society facility for the first time in years. He takes her to the top of a hill.
Alandus: Look at that, Yatima.
Holding Yatima's hand in his own, he points to the heavens with his free hand.
Alandus: The view of the moon is especially breathtaking today.
Yatima: Yatima's home...
Alandus: Mm-hm. That pale orb is where you come from.
Yatima: The moon...
Mimicking Alandus, she raises her own hand up to the sky.
Yatima: I want... to go home...
Her fingers, smooth and unchanged since the day she arrived, grab at the moon to no avail.
In contrast, Alandus's fingers have deepening creases, victims to the passage of time.
Alandus: I'm sorry I've made you wait, Yatima. No matter what, I'll—
Yatima: It doesn't feel like waiting.
Alandus: Ah... Because we still experience time on completely different scales.
Alandus: I understand the logic behind it, but who knows if I'll ever be able to adopt that perspective...
Yatima: I trust you, Alan. That's why Yatima isn't worried.
For a brief moment, the Yatima smiling back at Alandus appears lucid again.
Alandus: I see. I'll keep my promise. I swear.
On a hill that brings them ever so slightly closer to the moon, the two stand hand in hand.
Just as they had done when Alandus was a boy.
Yatima's only wish is to return to the moon.
To repair the functionality errors plaguing her so that she can resume her mission.
So that she can be a traveler once more.
That's why she clings to her wish and won't let go.
Alandus: Yatima.
Yatima: ...
More than a decade has passed.
The Society has grown larger than ever, and Alandus's status within the organization is legendary.
Alandus: How are you feeling, Yatima?
Yatima: Find a way home, Alan. For Yatima...
Alandus: I know. I haven't forgotten my promise. I have some good news for you today.
Yatima fixes her dull gaze on Alandus but remains silent.
Undeterred, Alandus smiles and relays the reason for his optimism.
Alandus: A traveler from the moon has finally arrived.
Yatima: Traveler. From the moon.
Alandus: Yes. This is the final piece to my research, and with it, I believe a breakthrough is forthcoming.
Alandus: This is the moment we've been waiting for.
Alandus: Your ticket to the moon. Yatima, despite whatever physical changes I might end up undergoing, I—
Yatima: To the moon, Alan...
Yatima blinks slowly—infrequently—while listening to Alandus speak.
She believes in Alandus. All she wants is to return to the moon.
Nothing more needs to be said.
Yatima: Look, Alan.
Yatima: There's the Sky Realm.
Yatima had reawakened in the realm of gray, rebuilt from next to nothing.
Her reconstruction fixed a number of errors, ending the pounding alerts that plagued her.
Raybury: Yes, blue as ever.
Alandus is there too, he himself having once merged with an automagod, after which he was reassembled as Raybury.
He is the one who had finally brought Yatima home.
Yatima: It's very blue today.
Raybury: Yep. I can't count how many times I used to gaze at the moon.
Raybury: But gazing at the skies from here is just as good.
Yatima: Yatima's happy you're here with me, Alan.
Raybury: You just might be the only person left to call me that.
Yatima: Alan is Alan no matter what you look like. You kept your promise to me.
Yatima: Thank you, Alan.
Yatima reaches up and pats the metallic bonnet fused to her head.
Yatima: You're warm, Alan.
Raybury: That's just... heat generated by us machines. You know that.
Yatima: But you're always warm, Alan. Yatima still remembers the warmth of your hands when you used to hold mine.
Raybury: Is that so...
Raybury: Thank you, Yatima.
Yatima: For what?
Raybury: For... this and that.
A chuckle from overhead reaches her ears, so she joins in too.
Yatima: Hmm... For this and that.
Calibrating Yatima's memory stores to efficiently process the load required for both the moon and skies is projected to take four hundred years.
With Yatima and Alandus keeping each other company, time ought to fly by for them.
Yatima: What do you want to do now, Alan?
Raybury: Me?
Yatima: Alan made Yatima's wish come true. Now it's Yatima's turn to return the favor.
Raybury: My wish was to come to the moon with you, and I've done that.
Yatima: Hmm... Then what is your second wish?
Raybury: Wish number two, huh... Can I think it over for a bit?
Yatima: Okay. I'll give you up to four hundred years to think.
Raybury: Your patience astounds me.
Yatima: Alan will adjust to the timescale soon.
In Yatima's mind, Raybury has as much time as she does now that he's relinquished his flesh and blood.
In four centuries, they'll embark on another adventure.
An adventure back to beloved skies, filled with wonderment and illogicality.
Yatima: Tell me a story, Alan.
Raybury: Another one? Sigh, four hundred years of storytelling... Just don't complain about hearing the same tales over and over again.
Yatima: Hehe...
The wait for something desirable can be excruciating, even if it'll be over in a scant four centuries.
Taking that to heart, Yatima passes yet another day gazing at a blue dot afloat in a sea of stars.
