The Willful Horn
(Captain) and company step into the forest and run into a young girl holding a large horn. Mimlemel isn't one to say much, but she becomes fast friends with Lyria and joins the crew.
(Captain) and the crew explore a new island in search of a rare herb.
They find an unexpected surprise waiting for them at the entrance to a thick, dense forest.
Lyria: Oh, hello there! What are you doing in a place like this?
Vyrn: Whoa, nice horn! And what a weird-lookin' stump.
Vyrn: I don't know what's going on, but it's kinda dangerous for a kid like you to be out here.
Lyria: Yes. Why don't you head back home before it gets dark?
Vyrn: All right, be careful on your way back! See ya!
The party bids farewell to the horn-wielding Harvin and ventures into the forest.
Vyrn: Agh, I give up. All these trees look exactly the same.
Lyria: Hmm... We came from over here, so let's try heading over there.
Vyrn: Huh? Wait, I thought we just came from over there!
Lyria: Huh? It's that girl from before.
Vyrn: Oh yeah! Do you think she was following us?
???: Are you lost? Too-too-tootle!
Vyrn: Ugh... I guess we are, but you don't have to make fun of us with your horn!
Vyrn: Hey! Wait! She went off by herself!
Lyria: Maybe she wants us to follow her! Let's go after her, (Captain)!
???: Tootle-tootle-too, tootle-too!
Vyrn: Hey, stumpy! What do you want? Where are you taking us?
???: Not stumpy. Mimlemel.
Vyrn: Your name's Mimlemel?
Lyria: Do you live in the forest, Mimlemel?
Lyria: That sure is a big horn! Can I hear you play something?
Lyria: Lalala... Shalala...
Lyria sings along merrily with Mimlemel's melodies.
Mimlemel and Lyria hit it off through the power of music.
Lyria: Heehee! You're a wonderful musician!
Lyria: I was really nervous at being lost in the woods, but now I'm feeling much better—huh?
Lyria: Look, (Captain)! It's the herb we were searching for!
Vyrn: No way! Did you know we were looking for that?
Vyrn: Awesome! Thanks for showing us the way! You really got us out of a jam!
The herb is in their hands now thanks to Mimlemel's guidance.
With their objective completed, it's almost time to say goodbye to Mimlemel.
Lyria: Thank you so much, Mimlemel! It looks like we'll be able to make it back to the airship thanks to you.
Vyrn: Still, I can't believe someone as small as you lives alone in a forest like this!
Lyria: Goodbye, Mimlemel! I feel sad leaving you, but we have to go now.
Vyrn: Hehe, thanks again! We'll see you again someday!
After saying their good-byes, the crew sets forth for the next island.
They're stopped just as they're about to take off.
Vyrn: Don't look now, (Captain), but she followed us again.
Mimlemel: Tootle-too! Too-too-Tootle!
Vyrn: Uh... what can we do ya for?
Vyrn: Maybe there's a tour guide fee that we gotta pay.
Mimlemel: Not really.
Lyria: No, that's not it... I think she just wants to join us!
Vyrn: What? Hey, we're skyfarers, you know!
Vyrn: We fight monsters and primal beasts and other crazy things!
Vyrn: Do you get it? A little kid like you—
Choose: We were looking for a musician.Choose: You seem to have a mysterious power.
- We were looking for a musician.
- You seem to have a mysterious power.
Vyrn: Are you serious?
Lyria: Yay! Mimlemel's joining our crew!
Lyria: It's nice to have you, Mimlemel! I can't wait to hear more of your music!
Mimlemel: And I want to hear you sing again. Tootle-too!
The airship finally takes off after Mimlemel is welcomed aboard.
Perhaps one day the crew will discover Mimlemel's secret power.
Journey of the Horn
Mimlemel and Lyria are enjoying a mini-concert on the deck of the Grandcypher until her horn breaks. They decide to head back to Mimlemel's forest to look for wood for repairs.
Lyria: Lalala... Shalala...
Lyria and Mimlemel's musical performance echoes across the deck as the Grandcypher cuts through the sky.
Vyrn: Hehe! You guys go well together!
Lyria: Heehee! Mimlemel's music is so fun to listen to!
Mimlemel: Toot-too... Too...
Vyrn: Huh? What's wrong? It sounds weird...
Mimlemel: Too... Too...
Mimlemel: What's going on...
Mimlemel: Too... Pfftfftfft...
Mimlemel: Great. It broke.
Lyria: Oh no! What should we do?
Mimlemel: Don't worry. It's easy to fix.
Vyrn: Mmhmm. It doesn't look so bad.
Vyrn: Can we get the wood to fix it from your forest?
Mimlemel: I think so...
Lyria: Then why don't we go back there and get some wood?
Lyria: Great! Let's get going, (Captain)!
Journey of the Horn: Scene 2
The party arrives at the forest where they first met Mimlemel. Mimlemel fondly remembers her first encounter with the party but refuses to admit it.
(Captain) and company return to the forest where they first met Mimlemel in order to fix her horn.
Mimlemel: How nostalgic. The forest hasn't changed.
Lyria: It sure hasn't. This is where we first met you!
Mimlemel: Yeah. I still remember that lizard's goofy face from that time.
Vyrn: Why you little! Who you calling goofy?
Lyria: Hehe. You really helped us out that day.
Mimlemel: Um... Phweet...
Vyrn: Haha! Trying to hide your embarrassment?
Mimlemel: Annoying. Be Quiet.
Lyria: Ah! You can't go in there by yourself with all those monsters around!
Mimlemel: Phweet. No problem. Bring it.
Vyrn: Humph. She's as feisty as ever. We're going in too, (Captain)!
Journey of the Horn: Scene 3
The crew secures the wood for horn repairs, but Mimlemel doesn't know how to fix her horn. While getting the horn repaired at the Knickknack Shack, Mimlemel expresses her gratitude to the crew for making the effort to help her.
The party defeats the monsters and finds the wood needed to repair Mimlemel's horn.
Vyrn: All right. Now that horn'll be good as new!
Lyria: Yes! Take it away, Mimlemel!
Vyrn: Um, you've got everything you need to fix it now.
Mimlemel: But I don't know how to fix it.
Sierokarte: I see, I see... I should be able to fix this up with some spare supplies in the shack.
Sierokarte: Sure! I'll have this done in no time!
Vyrn: Sigh... We went all the way back to the forest for nothin'.
Lyria: Well, at least we managed to fix the horn—
Mimlemel: It wasn't for nothing.
Vyrn: How do you figure?
Mimlemel: I'm glad everyone helped me.
Mimlemel: It was nice to see the forest again. I had fun.
Lyria: Teehee. Did you hear that, Vyrn?
Vyrn: Well, if you put it like that! If you're happy, then we're happy. Right, (Captain)?
Mimlemel, who always carries her horn with her, is a difficult individual to read.
But after this little adventure, the crew understands Mimlemel a bit better.
Sierokarte: Oh, yes. Since the horn is still under warranty, today's repairs are free.
Sierokarte: Hehehe. Thanks for bringing me the warranty forms!
Vyrn: Gulp... That horn must be more expensive than I thought...
Two Color Tones
Mimlemel, not being the most sociable of people, runs off when Selfira tries to strike up a conversation with her. However, the two warm up to each other after performing an impromptu concert in the forest later.
It is a day without any particularly urgent business. The Grandcypher stays anchored as time slips lazily by.
Selfira spots Mimlemel. Not wanting to scare her away again, she practically tiptoes over before speaking.
Selfira: Hi, Mim. Do you have a minute? I was wondering if we could talk...
Lyria: I-is everything okay? I just saw Mimlemel running away. She looked like she saw a ghost...
Selfira: Yeah... I'm not sure why myself.
Selfira: I just thought, you know, we're both musicians. We might have something to talk about...
Mimlemel seems to be in the habit of running away every time Selfira tries to talk to her.
Vyrn: What's the deal between you two anyway? Are you not getting along?
Selfira: I suppose not... I don't think I've done anything to offend her...
Selfira: But maybe I did and just didn't notice...
Mimlemel: No way... You didn't do anything wrong, I mean...
Vyrn: Wha? H-how long've you been standing there...
Selfira: Oh... So why do—
Vyrn: Hey! Wait! What was that all about?
Lyria: Um, aren't you going to go after her? You can't just leave her like this!
Selfira: Yeah... you're right. I need to find out why she feels like she has to apologize!
Selfira decides to track down Mimlemel, with (Captain), Lyria, and Vyrn tagging along.
Word was that she'd left the Grandcypher and headed into the nearby woods. The party decides to follow.
Lyria: There she is! Mimlemel! Is this where you've been hiding?
Mimlemel: What the... How far are you gonna follow me...
Selfira: Hey, Mim... I just want to know, okay? Why do you keep running away from me?
Selfira: I don't know what it is I did, but I'll fix it. I swear...
Mimlemel: I said it's not you, Selfira...
Mimlemel: I... I'm just bad at all that talking stuff.
Mimlemel: Sorry, it's just... People ask me questions, and I got no idea how to answer.
Selfira: Oh... So that's why...
Selfira: Hehe... You know, there's more than one way to get to know somebody.
And so, softly at first, Selfira begins to play her instrument.
Mimlemel high harmony intertwines with Selfira's own, their song spreading through the forest.
Lyria: That was amazing! You two play so well together!
Vyrn: Yeah! That's what I call music! Right, (Captain)!
Forest Critters: ...!
Vyrn: Whoa! What's with the impromptu meeting?
Mimlemel: Tweedle-deedle-dee! Don't worry. Happens all the time.
Lyria: Haha... ha... Happens all the time, you say...
Selfira: Hehe... You're chock full of mystery aren't you, Mim.
Her only reply is a sweet whistle that dances from tree to tree.
Though she makes a fine accompanist, there is still quite a bit of work to do in cracking the mystery of Mimlemel.
Special Jam Session
Just as he's trying to jazz up his sound, Aoidos meets Mimlemel. The two musicians share a polyrhythmic jam session. Aoidos invites Mimlemel to his next gig, but she declines. The pair's new music confuses (Captain) and the crew.
It's a peaceful afternoon.
(Captain) and Vyrn have gone to buy supplies, while other crew members wait aboard the Grandcypher.
Aoidos: How to amp things up?
Aoidos climbs onto the deck, hardly noticing Mimlemel.
Aoidos: I've really earned my chops during this tour across the sky.
Aoidos: But now that I've got Vermillios and Dandelios, it's time to start playing in a new key.
Aoidos: It's just a matter of how.
Aoidos: I know I can take my sound to the next level.
Aoidos takes his guitar in hand and begins to play.
For a while, Aoidos picks his guitar and hums.
Aoidos: Hmmm... It's not bad, just a little played out.
Aoidos: I don't know. It's like the answer's right under my nose.
Aoidos's eyes dart over to Mimlemel.
The musicians lock eyes and nod.
Aoidos: Okay. And a one, and a two, and a...
Aoidos: That totally rocked! Even the birds were cheering Haven!
Aoidos: Jamming with you was something else. We just gave a whole new meaning to polyrhythm!
Aoidos: Hahaha! I've got to put some of this into my new tracks. It's groundbreaking.
Aoidos: I really owe you one! We've got to play together at my next gig.
Aoidos: Oh? That's a letdown, but I understand.
Aoidos: You march to a different drummer, anyway. I know you'll shine brightest when you go solo.
Aoidos: It's cool! It's cool! The music's already put us in tune with each other.
Aoidos: So what do you say? Willing to harmonize one more time?
Mimlemel: No biggie! Toot-toot!
Aoidos: C'mon, let's jam! It's our time in the limelight, Tinydos!
Aoidos: You ready?
Vyrn: What in the sky's name are those two doing?
Lyria: And what's a polyrhythm?
Vyrn: I don't know. This whole thing has me confused.
Lyria: It looks like Mimlemel and Aoidos are having a great time together, anyway.
Vyrn: They sure are! Talk about your strange musical duos, though.
At first, (Captain) and company are unsure how to react to the peculiar melody.
But as it echoes through the Grandcypher, they can't help but tap their feet.
