    • "Trionfo Canzone", properly written as Canzone Trionfante, translates to "triumphant song".
    • "Pungiglione dell'Ape" translates to "sting of the bee".
    • "Becco di Falco" translates to "hawk beak".

Happy Birthday Cutscenes

1

(Captain), do you have a moment?
Hehe. Juliet agreed to help out, so we're going to have your party here.
Planning surprise parties is not my strong suit, but I'd say this turned out quite well.
You're another year older and all the wiser!
Now then. Let us enjoy this day to the fullest! Cheers!

2

(Captain), I didn't want to resort to this, but I have something of the utmost importance to ask you.
You'll accept? Very good then.
Take this piece of paper, go to the location on that paper at the specified time, and do as the instructions say.
(Captain) does as Paris says and goes to the location indicated—Paris's castle.
Happy birthday!
You don't know what this is? Humph, I assume the surprise is a success then.
My apologies for lying to you, there is nothing pressing I need you to do.
I simply needed a way to get you to come here.
But you seem far too satisfied for one who was just duped. It must take more than this to get past you.
Today I've called together several musicians to perform for the night. Please, enjoy.

3

Happy birthday, (Captain).
What? Why are you so surprised? Wait, do I have the wrong day?
Oh, I see... You're surprised to see me alone.
I suppose the party last year was a bit much.
But this year I was thinking of something more intimate. Something more quiet.
I suppose that was a surprise in and of itself?
For reference, which would you have preferred? A bustling celebration or a private affair?
Both? You are a greedy one.
Let me ponder how best to solve that puzzle for next year.

4

Happy birthday, (Captain).
I apologize that none of the castle attendants came to greet you. They all happen to be out at the moment.
It isn't much, but I thought you might enjoy a view of Verona from the terrace.
Paris and (Captain) look out over the city while massaging their taste buds with sweet cake and sips of herbal tea.
Then a sudden bugle fanfare causes (Captain) to look over the terrace rampart in surprise. A brass band waves up at (Captain).
Haha, that caught your attention, didn't it?
Last year you told me you wanted some quiet time, but you also wanted a big surprise.
You can choose to stay here on the terrace, or go down and hang out with the band.
So what would you like to do today?

5

Happy birthday, (Captain).
Seems it's become tradition to hold a party for you every year.
(Captain), you always give me your honest opinion on everything I do.
Thanks to you, I've been able to learn about many cultures and values I didn't know before, and change the way I do things accordingly.
I want to continue expanding my outlook and be someone who can lead the people of this country to happiness.
And I hope we can keep celebrating your birthday every year. After all, there is still so much we can learn and attain together.
When it becomes difficult for you to visit Verona, let's keep in touch through letters. I can't say I have a talent for writing, but I will do my best.
Well then, cheers to you on this special day.

Happy New Year Cutscenes

1

I like it when the new year is upon us. It puts me in good spirits.
It's the perfect time for all people, good and bad, to reflect on themselves and take the first step in a brand-new journey.
What sort of year do you want this to be, (Captain)?
As for me I think I'd like to overcome my distaste for rice cakes this year.
Humph, do you find that funny? But taking the first step is crucial for making big achievements.
(Captain), why don't you decide on a small goal for yourself?

2

Last year I made a resolution to overcome my distaste for rice cakes, but it was easier said than done, to say the least...
As a man, I couldn't leave my resolution unresolved. As such, I recently entered myself into a rice cake making contest.
And for some reason, the rice cakes that I made were surprisingly delicious.
Things taste better when you make them yourself, you say?
I see. It does make sense that you would feel a unique sense of joy from things you put your own effort into.
I'm actually not quite fond of mint, either. Perhaps if I applied the same method again...
It's decided, then. When it gets a bit warmer, I'll try growing some of my own leaves. A splendid idea, yes?

3

A new year begins. Have you written down your resolutions yet, (Captain)?
Last year I decided to overcome my distaste for mint, starting by growing my own mint leaves.
Due to my hectic schedule, the stalks outgrew the pot before I realized how much they'd grown.
For a plant to have this capacity to grow came as a shock to me. It taught me that this is what life is all about.
I'm lucky to learn a lesson from something that I've always kept at arm's length.
Don't let fear stop you from facing a weakness. Keep that lesson close to heart.
Is there anything you find difficult to face, (Captain)? Then allow me to help you. We shall brave the unknown together.

4

Happy New Year.
I'm glad you took the time to return to Verona just to wish me a happy New Year. Make yourself at home.
Oh, I was about to make the rounds in the city.
Thanks to the progress of the reconstruction efforts, the entire city plans to usher in the new year.
But amid all the joy, there are some individuals who might take things too far.
In order to ensure that everyone has a safe celebration, I will personally patrol the area.
Hm? You're offering to come patrol with me?
Hm. As our guest, I was hoping you'd enjoy the pleasures of the festivities. On the other hand, it would also be rude of me to refuse your request.
Then as the next best thing, I shall give you a tour of the revelry as we make our sweep.
Seeing non-locals having fun too would certainly prove that all the sweat and tears shed for reconstruction wasn't in vain. Please enjoy all that Verona has to offer.

5

We had a splendid celebration last night. Verona's skies were lit with such glorious fireworks for the first time in a long while.
The people welcomed in the new year together, looking up at the same sky regardless of differences in status, occupation, gender...
I truly feel that this opportunity to connect with the people and to feel the same happiness together is something very special.
There is still a long way to go in restoring the city, but I hope we can have more opportunities like this to share our joy from here on out.
Is that my goal for this year, you ask? Hm, yes...
My personal goal was, in fact, to conquer my distaste for watercress...
But I had yet to decide on my goal as count. I suppose I will work on these two things this year, as both a politician and an individual.

Valentine's Day Cutscenes

1

Even in Verona I often see young maidens giving chocolate to the target of their affection.
Hmm... I suppose it means the people have relaxed enough to enjoy simple moments with each other.
Hm? What? You prepared some chocolate for me too?
Er, I never thought you'd go so far as to give some to me, (Captain). Honestly, I'm surprised.
Thank you. I graciously accept your feelings, Captain.

2

It's Valentine's Day... I've received some chocolates from the ladies of the castle.
But never have I received this many. What could've happened?
Hm? My appearance is gentler now?
And because of that... More people are giving me chocolates this year. Hmm... I see.
You may have played a role in that, (Captain). I've learned a lot from you since joining the crew.
Heh... And you're even giving me chocolate too.
Of course I'll accept it.
To show my respect for you, I promise to eat yours first.

3

Ah, (Captain). Have you come to deliver chocolates?
No, I don't find it bothersome. Nor do I dislike chocolates. You can be sure of my gratitude.
What I am worried about, however, is that if I receive too much, I won't be able to finish them all by myself.
I came close to giving up last year.
Therefore I devised a plan of attack. For the past few days, I've cut out sweet foods while reducing my meal portion sizes.
This lays the groundwork for eating every last bit of chocolate you give me!
Now then. I'll gladly accept your gift.

4

Ah, (Captain). Come to give me chocolates again this year?
Thank you for this gift from the heart.
My position as a duke affords me many opportunities to receive gifts.
But none compare to a gift that is heartfelt. It's something I'll never grow tired of.
I'm proud to know that someone like you has me on their mind.
I knew what today would entail, so I took a brief hiatus from consuming sweets. I am most grateful of your considerations.

5

What's that? How much chocolate have I received?
Hm... If I am to be completely honest, I have not counted.
Don't get me wrong. It's not that I don't appreciate the effort behind the gifts of chocolate.
Generally, each gift represents the thoughts of a single person, does it not?
The feelings of each and every person are being expressed through their gifts, and that is what is important to me.
I simply feel that such a matter of significance cannot be measured by the number of gifts received.
A natural heartbreaker, you say? Hm. Is that what you think?
Still, regardless of how many gifts there are, I would be disappointed if I did not receive one from you, (Captain).
I truly appreciate this gift you've brought me. Thank you, (Captain).

White Day Cutscenes

1

(Captain), do you have a moment? I'd like to give you your White Day present.
No, I was never against them from the start. Let's just say that it's good to enjoy the little things in times like these.
Hmm... Perhaps I didn't realize how much you've rubbed off on me, (Captain).
I think I'll take the initiative in these events from now on. Look forward to it, (Captain).

2

White Day is upon us... When presents are given in return for Valentine's Day.
Remember on Valentines Day when I received all those chocolates?
I've returned the favors and sent them all gifts today.
All acts of kindness should be repaid in full. These kinds of courtesies will be vital in the restoration of Verona.
And with that, here you are, (Captain). As thanks for Valentine's Day.
I'm sorry that yours was the last one. As an apology of sorts, I've prepared some tea for you that will go nicely with it.
Now then, please enjoy. Hmm... Why don't we enjoy them together, just the two of us?

3

Ah, I'm glad I finally found you, (Captain). I've been looking everywhere.
As you may have guessed, it's about your White Day gift.
Unfortunately there was an accident while it was in transit, and it seems the sweets were lost.
I was told a replacement order couldn't be completely prepared in time for today.
Thus I took it upon myself to handmake the rest.
If you'll forgive my shoddy work, I would like to give them to you.
Is that so? Perfect! Then I shall take you to the kitchen right away.

4

(Captain), I would like you to have this White Day present.
While I am technically returning the kindness you showed me on Valentine's Day, this is just as much my way of saying thank you.
I don't know who devised this tradition of gifting sweets.
But the inventor must have been a considerate person.
For some people, they aren't always comfortable with giving gifts and expressing their feelings, so making it a holiday removes some of that hesitation.
In any case, thank you again, (Captain).
Hm... Tradition or not, I can't help but think my words feel a little awkward.

5

It is to my understanding that the sweets given on White Day have specific meanings.
These, too, must be guidelines devised by the considerate person we talked about last year.
I took it upon myself to look into these meanings, and have selected a suitable gift for you in return for Valentine's.
A gift of marshmallows.
What? Marshmallows... are an expression of dislike? Is that true?
From what I gathered, they're supposed to represent gratitude by gently enveloping the kindness given with the chocolate received on Valentine's, and returning it.
I see... It appears there are a number of different theories. I apologize for not having done more thorough research...
You'll take the marshmallows? And... you understand the true intentions behind my gift?
I'm glad. You certainly have a generous heart, (Captain). I hope you enjoy the sweets.

Trick or Treat Cutscenes

1

Captain. To lead means to keep yourself strictly in check at all times.
That's especially true during lighthearted festivities like today.
That being said, you already look like you're completely enjoying yourself, (Captain).
Oh well. It's good to experience these things while you're still young.
If you tackle everything in earnest, I'm sure you'll be able to do anything.

2

(Captain), your costume. Are you a Halloween knight?
Thinking about it, I've started to see the children of Verona wearing costumes as well.
Smiles are slowly returning to Verona. It looks like the restoration is coming along nicely. I'm glad.
And what's that you have in your hand? Vampire fangs? You want me to put them on?
While it's true I've gotten used to enjoying this holiday, I'm still not entirely... comfortable with that sort of thing.
Trick or treat?
But as you can see, I have no candy on me...
Fine. Give me those. I'll deign myself to put them on.

3

Today is Halloween. (Captain), your costume makes that all the more real.
Even in Verona, although only a small scale, festivities are underway.
I'm so glad the people have time to engage in more casual matters now.
Last year I was a bit embarrassed, but I've become accustomed to the celebration.
So what will you do this year? I will be by your side whatever it may be.
What? You want us to put on costumes and go to the Halloween party?
I see... The waters will be more turbulent than the year preceding...
Humph... As you will it. I will exhaust all my efforts to enjoy myself.

4

(Captain)? What are you doing with that large gun in your hand...
It's part of your grand scheme for Halloween trickery?
All I see is a safety hazard... But I'm sure you've thought this out, correct?
Hoping to allay Paris's concerns, (Captain) pulls the gun's trigger, and out pops a crumpled paper ball.
Ah, I see. Yes, that should be safe enough.
Might I suggest wrapping a piece of candy in the paper?
That way the duped party has an incentive to pick it up instead of leaving litter on the ground.
Hm, I'll cover the cost of the treats for you. It was my idea after all.

5

Whenever this season comes around, I worry about Juliet.
Once, I saw Juliet praying at the cathedral on the night of Halloween.
Though I didn't ask her directly, I know she is thinking about and praying for those who have passed away.
Juliet is a very sympathetic person. She feels responsible in making sure the same kind of tragedy won't ever happen again.
When I see her being so earnest, I can't help but be worried. I want to do what I can to support her...
But we are too close. And because of this, I'm certain there are things she doesn't want me to see.
That's why I'd like to ask you to watch over her for me, (Captain). Will you help me support her in times of need?
Thank you, (Captain). I'm glad you're here with me.

Happy Holidays Cutscenes

1

Today's a time when the whole world feels restless. (Captain), do you remember what I said earlier?
Heh. I see you're already busy with preparations for tonight's feast.
You always enjoy each event to the fullest. I find it truly admirable.
What? No, I'm not being sarcastic. These day-to-day activities are what make us human.
I hate to neglect these events, but... I'm afraid the reconstruction of Verona is far from complete.
Hm? You want me to stay? Are you sure?
I couldn't possibly decline your kind offer, (Captain). I'll gladly join you.

2

Last year's holiday party really left an impression on me.
I volunteered to chip in for this year's preparations. Would you mind having a look at what I've done so far?
Hmm, sprinkling some white powder on the windows will make it look like they have snow on them? That sounds like an excellent idea.
In the past I've always left this work to the servants. I never knew to appreciate how much work it is.
Hm? My clothes are dirty? My apologies, how uncouth of me.
It just goes to show how hard I've been working, you say?
Haha, I'll gladly accept those words.
Now then, I'd best get to decorating these windows. Would you be so kind as to help me, (Captain)?

3

Yet another holiday party approaches tonight. I must say I now look forward to helping with arrangements.
A vibrant party is all well and good, but by lending a hand, I come to learn more about the townspeople.
Here's a few points I noticed.
With but scant few words, I can see that each person has their own story to tell, climbing different rungs of the social ladder, and dealing with their own unique problems.
I wish I could ensure happiness for everyone, but...
Ahem. I digress. 'Tis a night for joviality, and I won't drag down the mood with difficult matters.
You and all in the crew deserve a night of joyous partying.
Have a look at the decorations I had a hand in when you can. I pulled out all the stops this year.

4

Candles are lit and placed in ornate glass cases all around Verona's plaza today.
This holiday is a reminder of the importance of spending time with family.
I wondered if there was anything I could do to make this precious time even more enjoyable for the people.
Though I am but an amateur who came to rely on the handiwork of the attendants, I think it was a success.
It's starting to get dark. The full brilliance of the candles should soon become clear.
I think I shall head over to the plaza to see how the people are faring. Will you come along as well, (Captain)?
The experience I gain this year will be useful for future holidays. If you have any feedback, I would like to hear it.

5

Do you remember how I had candles in glass cases placed around the plaza last year?
Actually, when I was retreiving them after the night's celebrations...
A number of the glass cases had words scrawled on them—wishes made by citizens.
Isn't it wonderful? Being able to connect with the people's thoughts and emotions in this way... I was deeply touched.
This year, I decided to prepare the glass cases again, as well as a space where people can write their wishes before lighting the candles themselves.
Why don't you write something too, (Captain)? Surely, wishes can grant others happiness.
I know your wishes have the power to do so. If one person writes, others will naturally follow. I'm counting on you, (Captain).

Footsteps of War

Paris chases away a group of protesters in the streets of Capulet, but he's unable to settle the anxiety in his heart. Thanks to encouraging words from the crew, he renews his zeal to protect Juliet and the people.

Count Paris comes out to meet the crew when they arrive in Verona.
He leads them to Castle Capulet.
Paris: Thank you for coming all this way.
Vyrn: Hehe! Glad to see you're doing well, Paris!
Lyria: Yes! Thank you for showing us to the castle!
As they continue to head towards the castle, they pass by a protest in the streets.
Violent Man: Hey! Are you listening to me, citizens of Capulet? If things keep going like this, we're finished!
A man at the center of the crowd continues to call for the invasion of the Montague district.
The residents are frightened by his extreme outbursts.
Paris walks into the crowd and approaches the man.
Paris: Ahem. Any demonstrations that disturb the peace are prohibited.
Paris: Stop this immediately, or I'll be forced to take action against you.
Violent Man: What? Oh great, it's Paris. All right, all right, I'll stop!
Violent Man: Hey, we're packing it up! That's it for today.
The protester and his companions take off running.
Paris: I won't be so lenient next time. You'd best prepare yourselves.
The residents who were watching begin to cheer.
Young Woman: Wow! I knew we could count on Sir Paris! He's so dashing!
Young Man: Yeah! As long as we have Sir Paris and Lady Juliet, this land will continue to prosper!
Young Woman: Yes, Sir Paris and Lady Juliet always put our needs first. I respect them so much.
The citizens call out affectionately to Paris.
Paris: I'll tell the guards in this area to be more thorough in their patrols.
Paris: If that doesn't resolve the issue, please come to the castle, and inform us of the situation.
Paris talks to the nearby guards, and then quickly leaves.
The crew is surprised by the deep trust the residents have placed in Paris.
Vyrn: Whoa, check out Mr. Popular!
Lyria: That's amazing! Everyone's calling out to you, Paris!
Paris: I established a friendship with the people during the reconstruction of the city. That's all it is.
Vyrn: Wow. I knew you were a good guy, but I didn't think you'd be this nice.
Lyria: Yes, and it's not just the townspeople either. Even the guards admire you!
Paris: Of course they do. It's because I'm the one overseeing the Capulet forces.
Vyrn: Of course, he says. Sheesh, for most people being admired isn't as easy as you make it out to be!
Lyria: Ahaha. That must be the secret to your popularity, Paris.
Paris looks glum despite the crew's praise.
Vyrn: Hey, why are you so down all of sudden?
Lyria: Um, was it something we said?
Paris: No. You've said nothing wrong.
Paris: This is my problem.
Paris speaks in a softer voice.
Paris: As you can see, public and government relations are frayed, and the people are gripped by overwhelming anxiety.
Paris: They've put up walls around their hearts that are difficult to bring down.
Paris: It's all because my abilities are still lacking that we're in this mess.
Paris: I couldn't keep my promise to Romeo.
Vyrn: Look, I know how you feel, but you shouldn't blame yourself.
Lyria: It's all right. Your feelings will definitely get through to everyone!
Paris smiles gently at the encouragement from the crew.
Paris: Thank you. You're right. I should try to think of something to do rather than wallow in self-pity.
Paris: My duty is to protect Lady Juliet and the people of this land.
Paris: Come what may, this conviction shall never waver.
Paris renews his resolve.
Even if a great crisis were to arise, he would surely have the courage to stand up and confront it.

Paris's Determination

Paris brings the crew to the castle guest rooms where he passionately explains the need for Romeo and Juliet to be together. The crew notices the similarities between Paris and Romeo.

(Captain) and the crew reunite with Juliet at Castle Capulet.
Afterwards Paris takes the crew to the castle's guest rooms.
Vyrn: Sorry for making you show us around. I know how busy you must be!
Paris: No. Providing special guests with proper hospitality is another important duty of mine.
Lyria: Thank you, Paris.
Vyrn: Say, I know the Montagues and Capulets aren't on the best terms and all, but...
Vyrn: Um, what are your honest opinions about everything that's going on?
Paris: Hmm. There was a time when both sides worked side by side on the reconstruction.
Paris: If we can find the right opportunity, I think we can come to an understanding once more.
Lyria: Yeah. Just when Romeo and Juliet were finally able to be together... Oh, it's so sad.
Paris: Yes. I agree.
Paris has a pained expression, and Vyrn looks like he wants to say something.
Paris: Hm? What is it?
Vyrn: Er, so... You were gonna marry Juliet first, weren't you?
Vyrn: I was just wondering why you go through so much trouble for those two.
Paris: It's simple. I'd be much happier if those two were together.
Paris: If the heads of the two opposing sides could come together in harmony, that would solve a lot of problems.
Paris: They're a rare breed of young people with genuine hearts.
Paris: I just can't stand that a perfect couple like that can't be together.
Paris speaks with passion in his voice.
Vyrn: Hehe!
Paris: What is it? What's so funny?
Vyrn: Nah, it's nothing bad. I thought you might have been more of a jerk, but it turns out you're a pretty cool guy!
Paris: Humph. Couldn't you have phrased that a little more kindly?
Lyria: Hehe! You know, you and Romeo are kind of alike.
Vyrn: Yeah! You're both direct and kinda awkward, but deep down you've got similar natures.
Paris: Hmm. I'm not entirely sure about that, but the idea strangely doesn't bother me.
Paris: But right now my bigger concern is Romeo and Lady Juliet.
The tension shifts, and now it's the crew that feels nervous.
Lyria: Knowing those two, it'll be okay.
Vyrn: Yep! Just let us know if there's anything we can do!
Paris: Heh. Thank you. Nothing's more reassuring than having you and your crew around, (Captain).
They arrive at the guest rooms and Paris gives a bow.
Paris: This is where I take my leave.
Paris: I'm sorry I can't show you more hospitality under these circumstances, but I hope you enjoy your stay.
Vyrn: Thanks! Don't work too hard, Paris!
(Captain) and company bid farewell to Paris with smiles on their faces.
They take the opportunity to rest up in preparation for what lies ahead.

Paris's Determination: Scene 2

As an inevitable war approaches, Paris proposes that Juliet run away with Romeo, but she refuses. Her strong determination to stay with her people spurs Paris to end the war by his own hands.

The signing of the peace treaty between the Capulets and Montagues ends in tragedy. Day has turned to night.
Paris heads to Juliet's room with a serious look on his face.
Paris: (Damn it. I guess we can't avoid war any longer.)
Paris: (Are they fated to never be together?)
Paris takes a deep breath and knocks quietly on Juliet's door.
Juliet: Yes? Come in.
Paris: I apologize for disturbing your rest, Juliet.
Juliet: No, thank you for working so late.
Juliet: I always end up relying on you for practically everything, Paris. Even now I'm completely useless.
Paris: That's not true, Juliet. You should be with Lord Capulet.
Juliet: Thank you. With your help, he's made it through the worst of it.
Juliet attempts to get up from the bed, but stumbles, perhaps from fatigue.
Paris: Juliet!
Paris gently catches Juliet before she collapses.
Juliet: I'm sorry. I'm all right now.
Paris: You've been taking care of Lord Capulet all this time, haven't you?
Paris: If you push yourself any further, you'll only be harming yourself as well. Please get some of rest.
Juliet: No, I'm fine.
Juliet: I represent this land now. I can't be the one resting when everyone's working so tirelessly.
Paris: Juliet...
Paris concedes to her stubbornness and looks at her with a stern expression.
Paris: I'm sorry for bringing this up in your condition, but I have something to report.
Paris: The relationship between the Capulets and Montagues has come to a head. War may be unavoidable at this point.
Juliet: Yes...
Paris: Please consider the worst-case scenario.
Juliet: Yes. I understand.
Paris: Do you? Really?
Juliet: Huh?
Paris: When war breaks out our soldiers will kill each other and much blood will be shed.
Paris: Until either Capulet or Montague takes responsibility for this fight, we will never see an end to this hell.
Paris: And a future in which you and Romeo join hands will be destroyed forever.
Juliet: ...
Paris: You've certainly grown in your capacities, Juliet.
Paris: But you're still as naive as ever.
Juliet: But there has to be some other way!
Juliet rarely raises her voice, but she does so this time.
Paris falls silent, as if in thought.
Paris: You want to protect the Capulets and the Montagues, and you want to save Romeo. Is that right?
Juliet nods.
Paris: In that case when dusk falls you and Romeo should escape.
Paris: After that I'll go and surrender Capulet territory to the Montagues.
Paris: If all goes well, we can minimize the damage, and you two can have a future together.
Juliet: I can't do that.
Juliet: I love this land. I love the Capulets.
Juliet: I could never abandon the people just so that I could run away.
Juliet: I'm sure Lord Romeo feels the same.
Paris bows deeply.
Paris: Juliet, please forgive me for presenting you with such a brazen suggestion.
Paris: Your resolve is all too clear to me now.
Juliet: Paris?
Paris: Therefore, allow me to end this war with my own hands.
Juliet: ...
Paris leaves the room without waiting for Juliet's response.
All traces of hesitation have disappeared from his expression, replaced by unwavering determination.

Paris's Determination: Scene 3

Order returns to Verona months after the fighting ends, but Juliet is overworking herself to cope with the loss of Romeo. Paris wishes to bear her sorrow with her and proposes to Juliet, but Romeo is still in her heart.

A few months have passed since the end of the war. Peace has returned to Verona.
Juliet looks out at the city sprawled out below.
Paris: So this is where you've been, Juliet.
Juliet: Paris...
Juliet: Being here helps me calm down somehow.
Paris: You seem slightly overworked, Juliet.
Paris: Could I ask you to have a little more faith in me and entrust me with more work?
Juliet: Thank you for your concern.
Juliet: But right now I want to find out just how much I can do with the strength I have.
Paris: ...
Juliet: If I ever feel as though I'm going to cause more trouble, I'll ask for your help.
Juliet smiles wearily.
Paris: If I may, Juliet?
Paris: You don't have to force yourself to smile.
Juliet: What?
Paris: I can see you're straining to put a smile on your face.
Juliet: That's not true. Really, look! I'm feeling fine!
Juliet smiles in desperation to prove that she is in good spirits, but Paris looks on with worry.
Paris: Juliet. I believe I've spent more time with you than anyone else these past few years.
Paris: I understand the state you're in at least to some extent.
Juliet: Hahaha. I guess I can't fool you.
She chuckles weakly before speaking again, this time with frankness.
Juliet: I can't lie to myself. I've been sad ever since that day.
Juliet: Even when I'm looking at the clear blue sky, or picking wildflowers, or hearing the birds sing...
Juliet: I'm always thinking about him and wishing he was here with me.
Juliet: Some people tell me that time heals all wounds, but that hasn't been the case.
Juliet: Time doesn't solve anything. Time only takes, not gives.
Paris: That's all the more reason to stop forcing yourself to smile.
Paris: When you feel sad, just be sad. Don't fight it.
Juliet: Paris...
Juliet: Do people smile because they're happy, or do they feel happy because they're smiling?
Juliet: I believe that if I force myself to smile, I can somehow motivate myself to keep moving forward.
Paris: I'm sorry. It was wrong of me to speak without your consideration in mind.
Paris: Forgive me for my impertinence.
Juliet: No, you're not wrong!
Juliet: You always know the right thing to say, Paris!
Juliet: It's I who should be apologizing for indulging in my own words.
Paris: Not at all.
Juliet: Um, seeing as the evening wind has gotten a bit chilly, shall we retire to our chambers?
Juliet hastily tries to return to her room, but Paris suddenly stops her.
Juliet: Huh? Paris?
Paris: Could I speak with you for a little longer, Juliet?
Juliet: Certainly...
Paris takes a deep breath.
Paris: You've always cared for Romeo with all your heart, and you do the same for all of the people of Verona.
Paris: I find it honorable, pure, and beautiful.
Paris: But the reality that has been thrust upon us is far too cruel.
Paris: And yet I see you desperately fighting that reality without letting it break you.
Paris: I want to support you in both official and personal capacities, but you're the one supporting me.
Juliet: Paris? Where is this coming from all of a sudden?
Juliet: Are you sympathizing with me because I'm so pitiable?
Paris: No, this isn't about compassion, love, or any of the like.
Juliet: Then why?
Paris: I simply think that this is the best course of action.
Paris: I want to stand beside you and shoulder the burden of all the pressure and anguish you feel.
Paris: I know what I'm about to say will only confuse you.
His expression becomes unusually serious.
Paris: Marry me, Juliet.
Juliet: Gasp!
Paris: You don't have to answer me now. No matter what your answer is I'm prepared to wait for as long as it takes.
Silence falls between them.
Juliet: Um... I'm grateful for how much you care for me and this land.
Paris: I apologize for interrupting you during your rest.
Paris: I'll be going now. Good night.
Paris leaves before Juliet can reply.
Juliet: (But... I...)
Juliet stands alone, gazing into the night sky.
