Today's the day to give chocolate! But not just to anybody—to special people we care about!
I made it just for you, so you'd better eat it all, okay?
I like making chocolate, but you know what? I like to eat it too!
So give me some chocolate, Bloodkin! Chocolate!
Aww... Now I'm hungry! I wanna chomp on you!

Happy Valentine's, Bloodkin!
You get a reward today for always being so good to me!

Veight just straight up ran away!

Promise

The crew bumps into a young vampire named Vania who is gathering fruits and vegetables to help her sick friend, Malinda. She quickly becomes distracted by a butterfly, then falls asleep on (Captain)'s back as they carry her back to the airship.

One day on the island of Tornizza, the crew encounters a vampire named Vania.
The crew agrees to help the young vampire gather fruits and vegetables for her ailing friend.
And so, the party ventures into the forests.
While they busy themselves with searching for food to gather, Vania becomes fascinated with a butterfly.
Vania: Wow! Look, look! It's a butterfly!
Vania: Oh no, it's flying away! Wait, come back!
Rackam: Haha, have fun chasing it, but don't go off too far now. Who knows what dangers—
Rackam: She's gone! Where did she run off to?
Lyria: I think she went that way. Let's go after her, (Captain)!
The crew chase after Vania and emerge into a clearing filled with beautiful flowers in full bloom.
Lyria: Over there! In the middle of the flower bed!
Vyrn: What's she doing?
Vania is curled up in a ball with a satisfied smile on her face.
Vania: Zzz...
Rackam: Sigh. Here we were, worried out of our minds while she sleeps blissfully away.
Vania: Snore. Wait... butterfly...
Rackam: Silly girl's still chasing the butterfly in her dreams?
Lyria: Wake up, Vania! You'll catch a cold if you sleep out in the open like that.
Vania: Hm? Yawn... Good morning.
Rackam: Sheesh. She's so carefree. Why are you sleeping out here?
Vania: It was so nice and warm. I got kinda sleepy.
Vania: Ah! Butterfly! Where did you go?
Lyria: Hmm... I don't see it anywhere.
Vania: Oh. Oh well, that's too bad.
Lyria: Heehee. You really like butterflies, don't you, Vania?
Vania: Yep! Not just butterflies. I like anything that's cute and pretty!
Vania: Medvecia doesn't have many cute things, so I got a little carried away.
Rackam: Yeah, I wouldn't exactly call things on Medvecia cute.
Vania: Except for the castle, there's no pretty scenery either!
Vania: The outside world is so much more beautiful! Like this forest, and these flowers!
Vania: I've never seen a place that sparkles in the sun like this!
Rackam: Hahaha. This definitely is a beautiful forest.
Rackam: But did you know the skies are full of other gorgeous places?
Vania: Wah! Really? Oooh, I want to see them!
Lyria: Then let's go see the world together!
Vyrn: Oh, good idea, Lyria! You'll get to see all kinds of things with us, since we travel all over the place.
Vania: Can I really come with you?
Rackam: Of course you can! Welcome aboard!
Vania: Heeheehee! Then it's a promise! Once Malinda gets better, show me more of the world!
(Captain) nods with excitement.
Vania: Heeheehee!
Rackam: Putting that aside, you should be more careful of your surroundings.
Rackam: It's nice and quiet now, but monsters roam around from time to time. You can't just fall asleep without anyone around!
Vania: Huh? No, it's okay.
Vania: Because I have my bloodkin to protect me!
She looks over at (Captain) with an impish smile.
Vyrn: Nah, (Captain) isn't your bloodkin just yet.
Vania: Grrr. I know I haven't bitten (Captain) yet.
Vania: But (Captain) is definitely my bloodkin!
Rackam: Yeah, yeah, we get it.
Vania: Grrr! I'll get you someday, I swear! Just you wait!
Rackam: Okay, okay! Come on, we'd better get back to harvesting. The sun's gonna set soon.
Vyrn: Yeah. Let's hurry back to pickin'.
Vania: Aww. But I'm tired.
Vania: Hey, Bloodkin. Can you give me a piggyback ride?
Rackam: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Don't you think you're being a tad selfish?
Vania: I'm not being selfish! I just want a piggyback ride!
Vania: Come on! Lift me up! What are you waiting for?
Rackam: Geez... I don't think there's any getting around this. Give her a piggyback ride, would ya, (Captain)?
(Captain) bends down so that Vania can hop on.
Vania: Heh heh heh! You're wide open! Time for a feast! Rawr!
Rackam: Ahh! You trickster! Watch out, (Captain)!
Rackam's warning comes too late. Vania has already latched onto (Captain)'s back.
Lyria: Aaah! Don't bite (Captain)!
Rackam: Er...
Vania: Zzz...
Rackam: She fell asleep as soon as she hopped on.
Lyria: Oh dear. Thank goodness.
Rackam: Sorry, (Captain), but you're gonna have to carry her for a while. It's a pain, I know.
Rackam: All right, let's grab a few more fruits before it gets completely dark.
Lyria: Yes! We'll surprise her with a mountain of fruit when she wakes up!
(Captain) nods and follows behind them while Vania continues to sleep clinging to (Captain)'s back.
Vania: Snore. Someday... I'm gonna bite you... mmph.
Vania mumbles softly in her sleep the rest of the way.

Delicious Soup

The crew accepts a mission that directs them to go to a village. Vania craves soup along the way, and she promises to make some for the crew once they reach their destination.

A few days have passed since Vania joined the crew.
(Captain) and company are on their way to a village that has asked for their help.
Vania: Huh? Are you feeling okay, Lyria? You seem kind of tired.
Lyria: Ahaha. I'm okay. My stomach's just a little empty, that's all.
Vania: Oh, I see. Now my stomach's feeling empty too!
Vania: Hey, Bloodkin! Do you have anything to eat?
Rackam: We just ate lunch, you guys. There's no food until we make it to the next village.
Vyrn: It seems kind of obvious now, but I guess vampires don't only drink blood.
Vania: Yep! We eat normal stuff like meat and vegetables!
Vania: Ah, but we're not supposed eat anything from outside Medvecia. It's like a law.
Vania: I think. Or maybe not?
Vyrn: Sigh... You really don't care about the vampire way, do you?
Vania: Grrr! Look, I'm hungry! I want some soup! Soup!
Vania: You want some soup too, don't you, Lyria? Delicious, hot soup!
Lyria: Mmm... Yes, I'd love some hot soup!
Vania: Right?
Oh!
Vania: I just had a great idea!
Vania: Did you know that I'm actually an amazing cook?
Vyrn: Seriously? But I've never seen you cook anything...
Vania: Skills are skills! And you know what else? Soup is my best dish!
Vania: That's why I'm going to treat everyone to a big bowl of goodness!
Vania: That settles it! We're gonna have a soup party at the next village!
Rackam: Wait, wait. We're still on a mission.
Vania: Then we'll just do the mission while we party! I'm putting you in charge of getting ingredients!
Rackam: Sheesh, you're as demanding as always, Princess.
Rackam: Why are we the ones that have to gather everything? Oh well, no point in grumbling. Let's just hurry to the village!

Delicious Soup: Scene 2

The crew's mission is to find out the truth behind rumors of a vampire hiding in the forest next to the village. Unfortunately, Vania's identity is compromised; she and the crew are chased away, but they vow to continue investigating.

The crew arrives at the village, and they are greeted by the village chief.
Village Chief: Oh my, thank you for coming out all this way to our little village.
Rackam: Don't worry about it. When we accepted your request for help, we didn't ask about the details.
Rackam: Just what is going on in this village?
Village Chief: Well, you see...
Vyrn: What? Cat got your tongue?
Village Chief: No, it's just such a strange story that I doubt you'd believe me.
Lyria: What kind of story is it? We promise to listen carefully!
Village Chief: Thank you.
Village Chief: According to the rumors, a vampire has been spotted in the neighboring forest—just like the ones in fairy tales!
Vania: Huh?
Rackam: You can't be serious!
Village Chief: I knew you wouldn't believe me. It really is stupid, isn't it...
Rackam: Ah... Yeah, that's a bit out there, haha... But can you tell us more? You know, just in case.
As Rackam chuckles, he shifts ever so slightly, hiding Vania from the chief's view.
Village Chief: I personally don't think there's any truth to it, but the villagers are terrified.
Village Chief: That's why I made that request for you to seek out the truth of these rumors.
Village Chief: Up until recently our village had been under attack from savage monsters, but they've finally stopped.
Village Chief: We were relieved at first, but now we have new troubles.
Rackam: It all makes sense now. You've had it rough.
Village Chief: Are you all right? You look awfully pale...
Rackam: I'm fine! Never been better!
The chief furrows his brow with suspicion before noticing the small girl cowering behind Rackam.
Village Chief: Hey, that young lady looks like...
Vania: ...!
Vania's visage leaves the chief speechless.
Village Chief: Those red wings on her head! She's just like the fairy tales said!
Rackam: Whoa, calm down! We can explain—
Village Chief: The monsters are real! Someone get the young'uns! Save me!
He runs off in terror, and villagers emerge from their houses with weapons at the ready.
Vyrn: Uh-oh. I think we'd better run.
Vania: Grrr...
They successfully escape from the angry mob, but Vania's cheeks are puffed out in anger.
Vania: Grrr! This is awful!
Vania: I won't be able to make any soup if this keeps up!
Rackam: That's what you're annoyed about?
Vania: I told you, I'm hungry! And Lyria's hungry too!
Lyria: Um... Yes, I am, but...
Vania: Grrr! This is all because of that forest vampire!
Vania: I'm going right into the forest, and I'm going to give that vampire a stern talking-to!
Vyrn: But I thought vampires weren't supposed to exist outside of Medvecia...

Delicious Soup: Scene 3

The crew comes across a vampire who had left Medvecia thanks to the open-mindedness displayed by Vania. Tired and hungry, the vampire reluctantly returns to the village with the crew in order to explain her situation.

Vyrn: Hey, you!
Vampire Woman: ...!
Rackam: So there really was one...
Vampire Woman: ...!
Vania: Hey, you! Stop right there!
Vampire Woman: Oof...
Vyrn: What happened? Did she trip?
Rackam: No. It looks to me like she's exhausted.
Rackam: Hey. You okay? Don't worry, we're not going to hurt you.
Vampire Woman: ...?
Vampire Woman: Could it be? Are you Princess Vania?
Vania: Huh? Do you know me?
Vampire Woman: You're the princess of Medvecia. Of course I'd know Your Highness.
Rackam: So why are you here? I thought leaving Medvecia was prohibited by vampire law?
Vampire Woman: You're quite knowledgeable. You're right, but I was intrigued by the world outside of Medvecia.
Vampire Woman: It's all thanks to you, Your Highness.
Vania: What do you mean?
Vampire Woman: Even though you're the princess, you continue to break away from the laws and customs that rule over us.
Vampire Woman: Many vampires aimed their contempt at you, but I sympathized with you.
Rackam: Is that why you became interested in the outside world?
Vampire Woman: Yes, that's right. I was watching you, Your Highness.
Vampire Woman: I felt that spending my final days in Medvecia would be a waste.
Vampire Woman: I knew it was against the laws, but I couldn't stand it any longer. With nothing to lose, I went to speak with the leader.
Vampire Woman: I couldn't believe what happened next. He gave me permission to leave.
Vania: Feldrac's a softy. That's why he let you go.
Vampire Woman: The outside world is such an amazingly large place. I couldn't contain my wonderment.
Vampire Woman: Then the mortals became afraid of me and chased me away. I've been living here in the forest, day after day.
Rackam: I see. That sounds rough.
Rackam: So why did you collapse earlier?
Vampire Woman: Oh, um, well...
Vania: Are you hungry?
The vampire nods in embarrassment.
Vyrn: Huh? I see fruits growing everywhere. Why don't you just eat those?
Rackam: Let me guess—vampire laws?
Vampire Woman: Yes. I've already broken so many laws as it is.
Vampire Woman: I couldn't bear to break yet another by eating the food of the outside world.
Lyria: Gasp! So you haven't eaten any food since you got here?
Vampire Woman: No, I found monsters that also live on Medvecia, and I sucked their blood.
Vampire Woman: But those monsters are gone now, and I haven't eaten since.
Rackam: Huh? Wait a sec...
Rackam: Oh yeah, the village chief mentioned something about that.
Vyrn: He did, didn't he? Awful monsters used to attack the village.
Vyrn: I guess they don't anymore thanks to you.
Vampire Woman: Huh?
Vania: So you're the town's savior!
Vania: In that case, let's go back to the village and explain everything together!
Vania: Then I can make soup! You've got to eat, okay?
Vampire Woman: But, but... the laws...
Vania: Grrr! Are the laws going to fill your stomach?
Vampire Woman: ...!
Vania: Look, we'll go together! Come on!
Rackam: Hah, just when I had her figured for a spoiled princess, she says something sensible.
Rackam: You already know this, don't you? Once she decides something, there's no changing her mind.
Vampire Woman: Yes, that's true. Let's go.
The sun has set by the time the crew returns to the village.
Instead of sleeping, the villagers congregate outside, clutching their weapons in terror.
Village Youngling: There she is! The vampire's back!
Vampire Woman: ...!
Vania: Hey! Stop it! Listen to what we have to say!
Rackam: Tch. It's pointless. They're in no mood to listen.
Rackam: We're going to have to cool them off. Let's go, (Captain)!

Delicious Soup: Scene 4

The initially terrified villagers realize their mistake after witnessing the vampire crying with joy from eating Vania's soup. Vania's leadership skills become clear to the crew given how she has brought mortals and vampires together with only a bowl of soup.

The villagers have become less heated, but they're still terrified.
Vania looks at the villagers and takes a deep breath.
Vania: Everyone into the dining hall!
Village Youngling 1: What?
Vania: We're making soup! Now move it!
Village Youngling 1: But...
Vania: Now!
Village Youngling 1: Okay, okay!
Village Youngling 2: What's going on?
Village Chief: What do you think you're doing?
Rackam: Hey, Chief. Can I talk to you for a second?
Rackam explains that the vampire was responsible for driving the dangerous monsters away from the village.
The villagers are still skeptical, but they file into the dining hall nonetheless.
Vania and (Captain) begin to make soup while the villagers and other crew members wait.
Vania: Come on, Bloodkin! You have to cut the vegetables properly!
Vania: Yeah, like that! Good work!
Apprehension hangs in the air as the villagers listen to the voices coming from the kitchen.
Village Youngling 1: Did that vampire lady really save us from monsters?
Village Youngling 2: I'm not convinced. They're trying to lower our guard just so they can eat us.
Vampire Woman: Oh...
Rackam: Don't worry. We're here if things go south.
Vania and (Captain) soon bring out a large, steaming pot of soup.
Vania: Here it is! Tasty, hot soup!
Lyria: Wow! It looks so delicious!
Vania: Of course! By the way, it doesn't just look delicious—it is delicious!
Vania: Dig in, everyone! Hurry before it gets cold!
Rackam: All right! I'm starving...
The villagers and the vampire woman raise their spoons tentatively to their mouths.
Vania: Well? Well?
Rackam: It's something all right...
Village Youngling 1: What am I even eating?
Village Youngling 2: This taste is hard to describe...
Vania: Huh? What are you saying?
Lyria: Well, it's very... unique!
Vania: What kind of flavor is unique? Hey, you! It's good, right?
Vampire Woman: If I may speak frankly, it's not very appetizing.
Vampire Woman: But I haven't eaten in so long. It warms my stomach and my heart.
Vampire Woman: Warmth... Yes, it's so warm...
Tears stream down the vampire's face as she continues to eat the soup.
The villagers are astonished at the trickling emotions.
Village Youngling 1: She's crying...
Village Youngling 2: They have emotions just like us...
Village Youngling 1: Excuse me, miss, but we heard from the skyfarers that you haven't eaten in days. You must be famished.
Village Youngling 1: I can go and make you something if you want! What would you like to eat?
Vampire Woman: You will?
Village Youngling 2: Yes. We assumed the worst about you, and that was wrong. You saved our village, and that's the truth.
Village Chief: Given all that's happened, I'll understand if you say no, but would you allow us to give you a proper welcome?
Vampire Woman: Yes, please!
Everyone is enjoying themselves except for a single grumpy girl who sits with her cheeks puffed out.
Vania: Hang on! What do you mean my soup isn't appetizing?
Vania: Rackam! You think it's tasty, right? Right?
Rackam: Um, it's uh... well... Hey, Vyrn, what do you think?
Vyrn: Whoa! Don't drag me into this! Uh...
Vania: I'm waiting!
Vyrn: Ow, ow, ow! Stop pinching me!
Vampire Woman: Heehee... How strange. She may be childish, but she's clearly worthy of her royal title.
Vampire Woman: To be able to bridge the gap between vampires and mortals over a simple bowl of soup...
Vania: It's not gross! It tastes great!
Vampire Woman: She isn't aware of it yet.
Vampire Woman: But I believe she will one day change the way the world views vampires.
Vampire Woman: It may not be my place to say such a thing, but I have a request.
Vampire Woman: Please look after her as she continues to grow up.
(Captain) takes the vampire's words to heart.
Vania: Yoo-hoo! Bloodkin! Please come over here!
Vania: Everyone's grossed out by the soup I worked so hard to make...
Vania: Is it really that bad?
Vania anxiously hands (Captain) a bowl of soup.
  1. Bring me the whole pot!
  2. You tried your best.

Choose: Bring me the whole pot!
(Captain) boasts about possessing incredible soup-drinking skills.
Vania: Heeheehee. Thanks, Bloodkin!
Vania: Listen up! My bloodkin here is going to drink all the soup! If you don't want yours, then give it to (Captain)!
And so, (Captain) finishes Vania's soup down to the last drop.

Choose: You tried your best.
Vania: Is that a compliment, Bloodkin?
Vania: All righty then! You can eat all of it!
Vania: Here, let me pour it for you! Eat, eat!
And so, (Captain) is forced to finish Vania's soup down to the last drop.

Vania: Heeheehee! Wasn't it delicious, Bloodkin?
Rackam: Whoa! You're a true champ!
Vania: Okay, now it's my turn to fill my stomach! I'm so hungry!
Vania: Can you make the soup for me this time, Bloodkin?
(Captain) barely has enough energy to nod, but Vania is too excited to notice.
Vania: Heeheehee! Thank you, Bloodkin!
Everyone has a hearty laugh after witnessing the back-and-forth between (Captain) and Vania.
The crew spends the night in the village embraced in the warmth and peace of friendship.

A Sibling Squabble

(Captain) and the crew visit a nearby town with Vania and Veight to restock supplies. Vania gets into trouble with a hooligan and accidentally reveals that she is a vampire, but she escapes the situation with the help of a young man she had met previously. Meanwhile a mysterious figure watches the events unfold from the shadows.

After a long journey, the crew find themselves low on supplies and so head into a nearby town.
Vania: Wow! Look at that, Bloodkin! There are so many shops!
Malinda: Gyoo! Gyoo!
The town is bustling with people, and stalls line the main street in great numbers.
Rackam: Huh... A flea market. Don't see that too often.
Lyria: The shops here are selling some strange things...
Rackam: Well, a flea market is usually a place to sell stuff that you don't need anymore, so maybe that's why.
Rackam: But what seems useless at first can turn out to be a serious treasure if you give it a second look.
Vyrn: You don't say! Let's get treasure-huntin' then!
Lyria: Gasp! Now I'm seeing everything in a new light!
Vania: What's that over there!
Malinda: Gyoo!
???: Hey, Vania! Stop going off all by yourself!
Malinda and Vania try to scurry away to see the stalls, but Veight, Vania's younger brother, stops them.
After the incidents that occurred on Medvecia, Veight stayed behind to govern the island with Feldrac.
Due to the crew's efforts, the islanders of Medvecia began allowing those from the outside in, but their suspicions of mortals remained.
And so Feldrac, wishing to do away with the guarded nature of his people, gave Veight an order.
That order was to explore the outside world as his sister does and determine whether it is possible to be friends with mortals.
As luck would have it, while traveling the skies, Veight happens upon the crew and temporarily joins them.
Veight: Think of all the people! If you were to cause a scene, there would be panic!
Vania: Grr! You worry too much! Me and Malinda already thought about that!
Vania: Look, look! I'm dressed to make sure no one gets scared!
Rackam: Enough of that, you two. Your fighting is what's going to cause a scene.
Vania: Humph...
Vania looks annoyed, but wanders with the crew as they make their rounds through the market.
Rackam: These shops are something else. They've even got pricey stuff used by nobles.
Stallkeeper: What do we have here? This your first time to our flea market?
Stallkeeper: We get a lot of highborn collectors 'round these parts. When they get bored of their stuff, they give it to us.
Vyrn: Really now... Must be some generous bigwigs!
Stallkeeper: They even give away stuff most people could never afford. They lose interest, and we get their goods. Couldn't tell you what goes through rich folks' minds.
The keeper then suspiciously eyes his surroundings and draws closer to (Captain).
Stallkeeper: This is just between you and me... I hear there's one collector who'll do whatever it takes to get the goods he wants.
Stallkeeper: Robbery, kidnapping, murder... You name it... All for some collector's item.
Rackam: Well, that escalated quickly...
Stallkeeper: If you're going to be looking around these parts, best to be safe about it. Kids have a habit of disappearin'.
???: You deaf! I said stop right there, you lil' piece of...
Vyrn: What the...
???: Stop! Let go of me!
Vania: !
Vania decides she can't stand by as the young girl is abducted and plunges into the crowd of people.
Veight: Vania! What did I just tell you!
Lyria: Gasp! Please wait for us!
Rackam: We've gotta go after 'em!
Vania and Veight have already disappeared into the sea of people, but the crew gives chase nonetheless.
Girl: Give it back, you thief!
Hooligan: Tch! Shut it! I had my eye on it first, ya hear!
Girl: Aah!
The young girl, clinging to the thief's arm, is flung to the ground.
Vania: Are you okay?
Vania: And you! How could you hurt a little girl! I'll sink my teeth right into your neck!
Hooligan: What? Get outta here, you piece of garbage!
Vania: Agh!
Vania sidesteps the hooligan's attack.
However, the force of the blow knocks her hood off and lays her wings bare for all to see.
Hooligan: Those bat wings on your head... I've heard of something like that...
Hooligan: Wait! Are you a vampire!
Veight: Vania!
Damn! I'm too late!
Hooligan: Somebody, anybody, call an officer! This monster is trying to eat my eyes out! We're all gonna die!
Vania: Grr! I wouldn't do anything like that! And you're the one doing bad stuff!
The people, alarmed by the cries of the thief, turn their sights to Vania.
Townsperson 1: Vampires? Like those things in fairy tales? They're real?
Townsperson 2: Monsters, you say? But she looks like a child. Could she really be dangerous?
Townsperson 3: Dunno! But let's just capture her if she's going to be a problem.
Veight stands before Vania to protect her as the people look on with mixed interest and fear. Suddenly a voice is heard.
???: Wait a second! She was only trying to help that little girl!
A young man raises objection to Vania's treatment.
Youngin': Who cares if she's a vampire! At least she isn't hurting little kids like you, punk!
Hooligan: You want a piece of this?
Townsperson 1: H-he's right... I didn't see that little one try to hurt anybody...
Townsperson 2: Yeah! Let's catch us some bad guys instead! Like the guy who cried wolf!
Now the townspeople turn their attention to the thief.
Hooligan: Tch! To hell with all of you!
Enraged that his own people would turn on him, the hooligan flees.
The crew pushes through the crowd and finally reaches Vania and Veight.
Youngin': I thought I remembered your face...
Rackam: Hm? Hey, you were in the village with the vampire...
Vania: Oh, yeah! You said my soup was gross!
Veight: You're acquainted?
Vania explains what occurred in a village full of mortals and a lone vampire.
Veight: It really is surprising to hear that other vampires are roaming around freely... but even more so is Vania's soup...
Lyria: Because of her cooking, the villagers and the vampire were able to find common ground!
Vyrn: Even if the soup did taste a little turned...
Vania: That's not true!
Vania: Right, Bloodkin? Say it was good!
Rackam: Haha... And what brings you here? You're a long way from that village.
Youngin': Yeah... About that...
The young man explains that he's visiting for personal reasons, including finding a gift for the vampire back in the village.
Youngin': I was having a hard time trying to decide what she might like, and then I saw what was going on here. Good thing patrol didn't show up.
Rackam: I see. Thanks for helping out back there.
Vania: I know what we can do to say thanks! We'll help you pick out a gift!
Malinda: Gyoo!
Youngin': Really! That would be great!
Lyria: It's the least we can do to say thank you!
Vyrn: Yeah! You cool with that, (Captain)?
(Captain) nods in agreement.
Vania: Thank you, Bloodkin! Okay, let's get going!
Malinda: Gyoo, gyoo!
Lyria: Oh no! Vania, Malinda! Please wait for us!
And so the crew heads into the flea market to find a gift for the vampire of the village.
In the shadows, a figure hides and watches the crew from afar.
???: A real, living vampire! Heh heh, I finally found one!
The man laughs with joy and gleefully trails the crew.

A Sibling Squabble: Scene 2

As thanks for the young man's help, (Captain) and the crew agree to help him find a gift for the vampire in his village. The young man mistakes Veight for the older brother based on how the two siblings interact, offending Vania. After locating a gift, (Captain) and company decide to go see the flowers in town that are said to glow in the moonlight.

In search of a present for a vampire, (Captain) and company peruse a flea market.
Malinda: Gyoo, gyoo!
Vania: Hm? What's up, Malinda?
Malinda: Gyoo!
Vania: Oh! Good job, Malinda! Who's a good girl? You are! This hair piece is adorable!
Vania: Come here! Look, look, Bloodkin!
Vania: Ehehe! What do you think? It looks good on me, right? I'm just so cute, don't ya think?
Veight: Sigh... Have you already forgotten who the present was meant for?
Veight: This isn't an excursion to find something that suits you... We're trying to help this young man find something for the vampire in his village...
Vania: Grr... I know that! But that's not the point! You're just a big meanie, Veight!
Youngin': So... Is that guy her brother?
Lyria: Yes! They're very close!
Youngin': Having a curious sister like that must be hard for an older brother, huh?
Vyrn: Hm? You think Veight is older?
Lyria: Oh, no. Vania isn't Veight's younger sibling...
Vania: Grr! I can hear you! I'm the older one! Get it right! He's my little brother!
Youngin': What!
Rackam: Hahaha! But I know where you're coming from.
Rackam: Both of them are little rascals, but Veight is a little more on top of things and a bit calmer.
Vania: Grrr! How could you, Rackam!
Vania: Bloodkin, tell them I act like the older sibling! Come on already!
  1. It's as she says...
  2. Come again?

Choose: It's as she says...
Vania: Hah! See! Bloodkin, you rock!
Vania: No matter how you look at it, I'm clearly the older one!

Choose: Come again?
Vania: Bloodkin! Grr!
Vania: You're gonna get a spankin'! Chomp, chomp, chomp for you!
Continue 1
Veight: Good grief... How long is this going to last? We're not getting any younger.
Veight: If you're going to find something for yourself, do it after we've decided what present to get for the other vampire.
Lyria: Vania, we'll need you to hold on a little longer! Until we pick a present, I won't be eating anything tasty either!
Vania: If you say so, Lyria.
Vania: Okay! Now that that's settled, let's get this shopping done!
Lyria: Yay!
Youngin': Thanks! It's because of you all that I got something good!
Lyria: Ehehe! We're glad we could help!
Vyrn: We hope that'll bring a smile to her face!
Vania: I'm sure she'll be super happy to get that! After all, I was the one who chose it!
The crew escorts the young man back to the village.
Just then, Vyrn sees that the masses are now making their way outside.
Vyrn: What the? Is something happening over there?
Youngin': Yeah! Probably a flower viewing.
Rackam: A flower viewing? At this time of day?
According to the young man, there is a flower that lights up only at night near the water.
Youngin': It came as a surprise to me that the highborns who live in the forest are said to have made that area for tourists.
Rackam: Sigh... These nobles are just throwing all kinds of money at the town...
Vania: Hey, hey! I wanna see the shiny flowers!
Lyria: I-I want to see them too! Is that okay?
  1. Guess we got no choice.
  2. It's settled! Let's go!

Choose: Guess we got no choice.
Vania: Really? Thank you, Bloodkin!
Lyria: Yay! This should be fun, right, Vania?

Choose: It's settled! Let's go!
Vania: Awesome! You really are my bloodkin!
Vyrn: Heh heh! (Captain) was looking forward to the flower viewing too!
Continue 2
The crew parts ways with the young man and heads for the outskirts of town to see the flowers that glow in the moonlight.

A Sibling Squabble: Scene 3

Veight scolds Vania when she tries to rush ahead of the group, causing Vania to get angry and run off with Malinda. The two find themselves lost in a forest, surrounded by a group of mechanical soldiers controlled by a man with a flute. The man threatens to take Vania with him by force, but she and Malinda team up to battle the robots.

The crew joins the immense crowds who are headed over to see flowers said to radiate only in the shadows.
Lyria: Wow!
Rackam: Oh, watch it!
Rackam: Lyria, gotta keep your eyes peeled. If you get swept away in this crowd, you're a goner.
Vyrn: Agh!
Vyrn: Darn it! Something got caught on my tail! Help a dragon out!
(Captain) reaches a hand out to assist Vyrn who is either caught on something or simply being taken by the crowd.
Vyrn: Phew... You saved me.
Vyrn: But by the looks of things, we won't be able to see anything, much less a shining flower.
Rackam: Even so, we can't go back now. Not with this crowd...
Rackam looks around and cringes at the sight of all the people bunched up around the crew.
Vania: Uh... Veight, how much longer?
Veight: Sigh... As if I know. But at this pace, much, much longer...
Vania: Huh? Do you hear that weird sound? Is it coming from over there?
Veight: Hey!
Without a care in the skies, Vania carves a path forward.
Veight goes in search of his sister and finally grabs her arm to stop her.
Veight: Vania! Where are you going?
Vania: I heard something weird coming from over there, and I got a little curious...
Veight: Sigh... And what would you do if you got lost all alone?
Veight: Think about what you do before you do it!
Vania: Grrr!
Vania: You don't have to be so mean about it! All you ever do is criticize me and tell me everything I do is wrong! You're just a big bully!
Vania: I hate you, Veight!
Vania: Go away!
Veight: Vania!
Vania escapes Veight's grip and disappears into the sea of people.
Malinda: Gyoo!
Veight: Yes, please find her. I'll catch up.
Malinda: Gyoo, gyoo!
Malinda goes off in search of Vania while Veight takes in a deep breath of air.
Veight: (A bully? I'm just worried about her...)
Lyria: Veight! We finally found you...
Rackam: Hm? Hey, where are Vania and Malinda? Weren't they with you?
Veight sighs before shaking his head at Rackam.
Veight: I got into an argument with Vania. Happens all the time though. Just need to give her some room.
Vyrn: What! We need to find her now!
Veight: I'll go get her. It's not like we can all navigate through this wave of people.
Rackam: You have a point. But will you be okay alone?
Veight: Humph. Of course I will. I know everything about Vania.
Rackam: If you say so... We're going to move forward with the crowd. Let's meet near the water.
Veight: Will do.
And so Veight parts with the crew and goes off in search of Vania.
Vania: What's wrong with him! Veight always has something to nitpick!
Malinda: Gyoo...
Vania: You think so too, right, Malinda?
Vania sits under a tree in a forest on the outskirts of town after losing her way.
Vania: I know he worries about me, but he doesn't have to say everything in that tone.
Malinda: Gyoo...
Malinda: Gyoo?
Vania: Malinda, what's wrong?
Vania: Who's there?
Approaching footsteps can be heard. Vania looks around frantically for their source.
???: ...
From a bush comes soldier-like entities made of metal.
Without so much as a word, they surround Vania and Malinda on all sides.
Malinda: Gyoo...
Vania: Malinda, come here. These people are giving me bad vibes!
Vania can only look on as the silent sentinels draw closer.
From behind them emerges an unfamiliar face.
Pretty Fellow: Look what I've found.
Why hello, my dear. Apologies if my servants scared you.
Vania: Servants? These soldiers?
Pretty Fellow: Oh, yes. They're just my little machines. They do as they're told and protect me.
Vania: Oooh... And what do you want with me?
Pretty Fellow: I saw you save a little girl this afternoon. I was so moved by your courage.
Pretty Fellow: And I felt compelled to get to know you better... Even become your friend.
Pretty Fellow: What do you say? Would you like to discuss our friendship over a cup of tea?
The man extends a smile and a hand to Vania, but she turns away.
Vania: Um. Nope. You give me the heebie-jeebies.
Vania: Let's go, Malinda.
Robot: ...
The sound of a flute echoes through the dark forest and the once-still soldiers begin moving in unison.
The sentinels now block Vania from leaving.
Vania: Move it! I said I'm not going anywhere with you!
Pretty Fellow: Oh, but you are. Even if that means I need to take you... with force.
Malinda: Gyoo, gyoo! Gyoo!
The flute sounds and the mechanical soldiers draw their swords.
Pretty Fellow: Now come with me quietly. You don't want me to hurt you, right?
Malinda: Gyoo...
Vania: Grr! Why is everyone always getting in my way!
Vania: We're leaving, Malinda! We'll take them all out if we have to!
Malinda: Gyoo, gyoo!

A Sibling Squabble: Scene 4

The metallic soldiers turn out to be made of silver, the equivalent of poison to Vania. Veight appears and tries to help Vania and Malinda escape, but they are cornered at the edge of a cliff, and Veight faces the enemies alone to allow the others to get away. Vania and Malinda manage to reunite with (Captain) and the crew and inform them that Veight has been taken captive.

Vania and Malinda do battle with a great many metallic soldiers.
And then Vania begins to notice cuts and scrapes on her body.
Vania: But... why? There's something wrong with me...
Malinda: Gyoo, gyoo!
Pretty Fellow: Heh heh. My soldiers are made of silver.
Vania: Silver?
Pretty Fellow: Yes, my dear. The equivalent of poison to you, correct?
Malinda: Gaaaruuu!
Pretty Fellow: Tch! Bloody beast! Be gone from my sight!
Robot: !
Malinda: Garuu!
Malinda: !
Robot: !
Malinda: Gaaauuuh...
While Malinda brings down some of the machines, new ones take their place and ultimately overthrow her.
Malinda: Gyoo...
Vania: Malinda! Hold on!
Vania tries to rouse her fallen companion.
But no matter how many times she calls out to her, Malinda no longer responds. Vania turns ghost white.
Pretty Fellow: Hahaha! My dear, this is just too tragic!
Pretty Fellow: I truly wanted to take you away unharmed, but look what happened because you chose to fight. Oh well. I won't kill you. Yet...
Robot: !
As Vania tries to hold it together, one soldier swings its sword down on her head.
???: Vania!
Robot: !
Veight: Tch! Stay away from Vania!
Robot: !
Vania: Veight! How did you find me...
Pretty Fellow: Hahaha! This is perfection! Lady Luck smiles down upon me!
Veight turns his furrowed brow to the elated man.
Veight: Bastard! This will cost you your life!
Pretty Fellow: Heh heh. Calm yourself. The both of you are invited to join me at my estate!
Robots: !
Veight: Ha! I will die before I accept an invitation from filth like you!
Vania: Veight, stop!
Vania: Those mechanical soldiers are made of silver! If they touch you, they'll drain you of power!
Pretty Fellow: Now then, come quietly!
The silver sentinels uniformly move closer. A frustrated Veight considers his options.
Veight: We don't have a choice then! We're leaving! Hold on, Vania!
Vania: O-okay!
Pretty Fellow: Hahaha! What fun! Letting my prey roam free before the butchering is but another pleasure!
Pretty Fellow: This forest is my garden. There is no place you can hide.
Veight picks up the unconscious Malinda and runs off into the night with Vania.
Robots: !
Veight: Damn! They're fast!
Vania: Veight! Over here!
They lose the soldiers attempting to block their path and flit into the depths of the forest.
Vania: Agh! This is a dead end!
They have inadvertently left the forest and find themselves now on a horrifyingly steep precipice.
Vania: Hm? What is that shining thing over there?
Vania points at something off in the distance that emits a faint glow.
Veight: That's probably... somewhere near the water.
Vania: Then if we can get close enough, we might find the others?
Veight: That's what I was thinking... But...
Vania looks at Veight, who is examining the cliff below.
Veight: (If we were to fall from this height, even our vampiric bodies would not be safe...)
Veight: (In addition, Vania's weakened state would pose a great danger...)
Robot: !
Veight: Damn! They've already found us!
Vania: Wh-what are we going to do?
Veight: Vania... You have to wake Malinda up. I'll stall until she comes to.
Vania: What? You can't fight those things!
Veight: There's no other choice. Even if I can't destroy them, I can get us the time we need!
Veight makes his last statement before confronting the silver soldiers.
Vania: Malinda, wake up! We need you!
Vania: Please, Malinda! We'll all be taken prisoner!
Malinda: Gyoo...
Vania: Malinda! Please transform right now!
Malinda finally awakens and upon hearing Vania's cries for help, she transforms into a large dragon.
Malinda: Graaaa!
Vania: Thanks, Malinda!
Veight: Damn it! Persistent bastards!
Robot: !
Vania: Veight! Hurry! Grab my hand!
Veight: Tch! Just a little more!
Robot: !
Veight: !
Vania: Veight?
Veight: Ggh... Gaaaah!
From Veight's mouth comes a stream of red blood. Vania looks on with shocked eyes as her younger brother is stabbed through the stomach.
Malinda: Grroo!
Veight: Malinda... Please... Save her...
Veight: Save... Vania... Take her...
Malinda: Gruu...
Veight: Gah... Run, fool!
Malinda: Groo!
Malinda cries in agony for what she must do; she takes Vania and soars high into the sky.
Vania: Stop, Malinda! You can't leave Veight! Veight!
Malinda: ...
Vania: No, no, no! Malinda! Go back!
Vania: Veight! Veight!
Lyria: Huh?
Vyrn: What's up, Lyria?
Lyria: Did you hear that?
The crew look up into the night sky as they await Veight and Vania.
Rackam: What's that? It's heading straight for us...
Malinda: Groo!
Vyrn: That's Malinda! Hey!
Rackam: Hm? But where's Veight?
The waving crew realizes that the flying dragon is missing one passenger.
Malinda lands, and the crew is horrified to see Vania covered in battle scars.
Rackam: What the heck happened! And where's your brother?
Malinda: ...
Vania: Sniffle...
Vyrn: Vania...
Vania: Sob... Veight... Veight...
Vania: They took my Veight! Waaa!
Consumed with worry and concern, (Captain) takes Vania into a hug.
The crew is silent save for the cries of a little vampire whose brother has been ripped from her life.

What Big Sisters Are For

(Captain) and company stop at an inn to let Vania and Malinda rest, while Rackam, Vyrn, and Lyria search the city for information about the mechanical soldiers. They learn about a suspicious highborn named Lord Lambert, and Vania insists on accompanying the crew on their way to the man's estate to rescue Veight.

The crew stops by an inn to let Vania and Malinda rest.
Although their wounds are not serious, their strength reserves have been depleted, and they sleep through the day.
Vania: Hm? Where am I?
Lyria: Oh, Vania! You're awake!
Vania: Lyria... But how...
Vyrn: You okay? You've been sleeping this whole time.
Vania, not yet fully to her senses, looks at the crew and then remembers what happened to her brother.
Vania: What about Veight!
Lyria: We... wanted to ask you...
Vyrn: We looked while you were sleeping, but couldn't find him.
Vania: Oh...
Vania lets her shoulders fall in disappointment. Then Rackam appears to check on her.
Rackam: How's Vania...
Oh, you're awake. How do you feel?
Vania: I'm okay. Just fine really...
Rackam: Don't lie. Your face is still so pale. I don't want you to push yourself, but...
Rackam: Can you tell us what happened? We know Veight was taken, but what else?
Vania: I'll... tell you everything.
Vania explains what happened the previous night.
Rackam: Mechanical soldiers made of silver? And a guy who commanded them that you've never met before?
Vania: Never. He said he saw us when we helped that young girl.
Rackam: So someone from the town. Maybe a tourist... We need to get moving and find Veight.
Vania: ...
Lyria: Vania... Are you really okay? I've never seen you look like this before...
(Captain) softly holds Vania's shaking hands.
With Vania on the verge of tears, (Captain) turns to face the crew.
Rackam: I know what you're gonna say; you take care of her. We'll go to town and ask about these soldiers.
Vyrn: Leave it to us! We'll definitely find Veight!
Lyria: Sure will! Vania, you just rest until then.
As the crew prepares to leave, Vania lets out one last cry.
Vania: Veight... There was so much blood.
Vania: And I just left him to die... I should have gone back!
  1. He's alive.

Choose: He's alive.
(Captain) looks Vania in the eyes and makes this declaration with conviction.
Vania: Really? Should I really believe that?
(Captain) holds Vania's gaze and nods.
Vania, unable to hold back her tears any longer, begins to weep again.
Vania: Okay... Then Veight is alive! I know it with all my heart!
Vania: He wouldn't leave me behind! I wouldn't let him!
Vania clutches (Captain) as she cries. When she calms down again, she raises her head and speaks.
Vania: Ehehe... Thank you, Bloodkin.
Vania: I feel a little better now.
Vania: Whenever you're around, I feel like I can do anything.
Vania takes a deep breath and looks at (Captain) in earnest.
Vania: Please, Bloodkin... Bring Veight back to me.
(Captain) nods firmly.
Vania is at ease knowing she can trust in her crew leader and lets a smile form.
Meanwhile Rackam, Vyrn, and Lyria scour the city in search of clues to find Veight.
Stallkeeper: And what would all of you be looking for?
Rackam: Just uh...
Rackam: Mechanical soldiers made of silver... You wouldn't happen to know where we could find them, would ya?
Stallkeeper: Silver? I reckon you're talking about Lord Lambert's collection.
Rackam: Lord Lambert? A highborn from the city?
According to the stallkeeper, Lambert is a collector with a reputation.
He has an obsession with taxidermy and often asks for specimens to add to his treasure trove, but as of late takes any goods made of silver.
Stallkeeper: As long as it was made of silver, he wanted it. He didn't care what kind of junk it was.
Stallkeeper: Rumor has it that Lord Lambert owns every piece of silver in the city now.
Rackam: I see... That means there's a good chance this is our guy.
Vyrn: So fella, where's this lordy live anyways?
Stallkeeper: You know the forest near the road that leads here, right?
Stallkeeper: He owns all the land in the area. Just follow the woodland path, and you'll end up at his estate.
Lyria: Got it! Thank you, mister!
Rackam and the others head back to the inn to report their findings to (Captain) and Vania.
Vania: So that's why they were able to get on our trail so fast...
Rackam: With a house in the forest, it wouldn't be difficult for them to corner you like that.
Vania: Let's go, Bloodkin. We have to save Veight.
Lyria: But Vania... Don't you need to rest a little more?
Vyrn: You aren't looking so good. How about you leave this one to us?
Vania: No way! I'm going too!
Vania: Veight got caught because of me! He was only trying to protect me!
Vania: So I have to go save him!
Rackam: What do you think, (Captain)?
  1. Let's all go together.
  2. You should rest.

Choose: Let's all go together.
Rackam: I'll go with whatever you decide.

Choose: You should rest.
Vania: I said I'm fine! If I said I'm going, then I'm going!
Rackam: You know, (Captain), even if we try to leave her behind, I think she'll just follow us.
Rackam: It might just be safer to have her tag along to begin with.
After hearing Rackam's argument, (Captain) concedes.
Continue 1
Rackam: We better be careful. He's got his sights set on Vania after all.
Vyrn: If he tries to get his hands on her, you know what to do, (Captain).
Lyria: We'll protect Vania from any harm!
Malinda: Gyoo, gyoo!
Vania: Thanks, everyone!
Vania: We're coming, Veight! You just sit still.
And so the crew heads for Lambert's estate in the forest beyond the city.

What Big Sisters Are For: Scene 2

(Captain) and the crew encounter robots on their way to Lord Lambert's estate, confirming their suspicions. Led by Vania's ability to sense Veight's presence, they head to a small house with a hidden passageway decorated with taxidermied vampires. Suddenly an alarm sounds, and they are surrounded by guards.

At the same time some of the crew members are gathering information, Veight begins to regain consciousness.
Veight: Ugh...
Veight: Where... Agh...
He awakens to extreme pain in an unfamiliar room.
Veight: My wounds still aren't healed yet...
Veight: (I wonder if Vania made it back to the crew safely...)
While gripping his battered body, Veight looks at his surroundings to find nothing binding him to his current location.
Veight: So they thought my wounds were so severe they wouldn't need to restrain me? Fools.
Veight whispers to himself and leaves the room, moving with a slight drag in his step.
Veight: (I don't know how far I am from the water, but if I get outside, I can call for help.)
Veight: Agh!
Veight feels the pain in his stomach, and he clutches it as he tries to continue walking forward.
Making his way onward, Veight notices a shadow in the distance.
Veight: !
The area he finds himself in now is filled with taxidermy mounts.
Veight: What... are these...
Such awful taste...
Veight: Hm?
Veight stops suddenly as something catches his eye.
Veight: Is that...
Veight is left speechless and defenseless as his eyes become transfixed on the object before him.
By the time he realizes something is behind him, it's too late.
Veight: Gah!
Veight, struck hard on the back of the head, is plunged into a dark unconsciousness.
In another part of the forest, the crew are making their way to Lambert's estate.
The path leading there is guarded by several silver statues.
Vania: These... These are the things that were chasing us!
Malinda: Gyoo, gyoo!
Rackam: That means... this Lambert fellow is the bad guy we're after.
Lyria: Do you think we should keep going this way? What if the statues start moving?
Malinda: Gyoo, gyoo, gyoo!
Vyrn: She says they only moved after something like a whistle was blown.
Vania: That's right. I did hear a weird sound when they attacked us.
Rackam: A whistle... Better stay on our guard just in case. Get your sword out, (Captain).
Keeping their wits about them, the crew proceed down the path leading to a large mansion.
Vyrn: Whoa! This place is huge...
Lyria: Veight is somewhere in here.
(Captain) makes to enter the mansion, but a voice from behind stops him.
Vania: Wait, Bloodkin!
Vania: Veight's not in the house. I can feel his presence coming from way over there.
Vania points in the direction of a grove growing beside the mansion.
Vania: Yeah. I know he's somewhere over there. I can feel him.
(Captain) nods, and the crew follows Vania into the innermost part of the grove.
What they find is a small house separated from the mansion.
Vania: I can... feel him underneath us.
Lyria: But... I don't see stairs or a ladder anywhere.
Vyrn: Hey! What if this opens up?
Examining the fireplace, Vyrn finds something suspicious on the floor that might lead somewhere.
Rackam: Gimme a second.
And... Here we go!
Lyria: Wow! There was a staircase hidden in the fireplace!
Rackam: A secret passage if I ever did see one. Wonder where it leads.
Vania: I knew it. Veight is down there somewhere. Let's go!
Guard: ...
The crew hide when they see guards on patrol.
Lyria: Phew... Looks like they went that way.
Rackam: That's a lot of guards for a place like this... This means we're on the right path.
Vyrn: Vania, can you feel Veight close by?
Vania: Hm... Maybe this way.
The crew continue to sneak past the guards as they search for Veight.
Monster: ...
Lyria: Aaah! A monster!
Vania: But it's not attacking...
Rackam: That's because this thing is stuffed.
Rackam: I think everything in this room is...
The crew walks along the path littered with taxidermy mounts.
Malinda: Gyoo!
Vyrn: Hm? You find something worth our while?
Malinda's eyes are fixed on a mount that's clearly intended as the estate's taxidermic centerpiece.
???: ...
Rackam: Goodness...
Vania, don't look!
Vania: What now? You can't say "don't look" and expect me not to!
Vania ignores Rackam's warning and peeks at what lies ahead.
???: ...
Vania: Is this... a vampire?
Lyria: This... isn't real, right?
Rackam: I think it is.
Vania is frozen in place.
Vania: Is this... what's going to happen to Veight?
Vania begins imagining the worst, but suddenly something triggers the alarms.
Vyrn: What the!
Guard: There they are!
Guard: And they have the vampire! Capture her!
The bells sound and the crew is quickly surrounded.
Rackam: Guess we gotta fight. Think you got this, (Captain)?
Vania: I won't let anyone stuff Veight!
Vania: Bloodkin, hurry up and get 'em! We have to save my brother!

What Big Sisters Are For: Scene 3

Upon defeating the guards, (Captain) and company are confronted by a group of mechanical soldiers. The crew engages with the robots while Vania continues on ahead to find Veight. The siblings come face to face with Lord Lambert and a silver soldier designed for hunting vampires, but (Captain) and the crew show up just in time.

The crew defeat the guards sent to stop them.
Malinda: Gyoo, gyoo, gyoo!
A whistle is heard and suddenly mechanical soldiers flood the room.
Rackam: So these are the silver pests that attacked Vania, Veight, and Malinda!
Vania: Grr! We don't have time for this! Get out of my way!
Vania: We have to find Veight ASAP!
Robot: !
Lyria: Vania! Look out!
The sentinels ignore the crew and aim directly for her.
(Captain) stops their silver swords from striking the little vampire.
Vyrn: They just want her!
Malinda: Groo!
Rackam: Vania! We'll take the mechs! You find Veight!
Vania: Okay! Thank you, everyone!
Vania separates from the crew as they fight off the silver soldiers.
Vania: (Just you wait, Veight! Help is coming!)
Vania can feel Veight's presence as she goes deeper into the basement.
Vania: Veight!
Veight: Agh...
Vania: You're hurt! I'll get you out of here before you know it!
Veight: Vania, stop! Don't come any closer!
Vania: I have to! Your wounds are so deep!
Vania: Aaahh!
Silver bars spring up from the floor, encaging Vania.
Vania: Grr! These won't stop me!
Veight: Vania, don't touch those! They're...
???: They're made to steal your power. That's a cage made of pure silver bars for trapping vampires.
Lambert: Haha! Who knew you'd come looking for him!
So vampires do have emotion.
Lambert: Good thing I laid this little trap just for you.
Vania: You! Why do you hate us!
Lambert: Hate? I love you all from the bottom of my bosom!
Lambert: You saw what I did to one of your exquisite kind, didn't you? I just happened to find that one's corpse and made it into everlasting art.
Lambert: But so much time had passed by the time I found that legendary creature that its decayed state made it fall just a bit short of my standards.
Lambert: So that's why I began hunting for live vampires. Gotta catch 'em fresh and kill 'em beautifully.
Lambert: And when I had that idea, guess who showed up! You! And, oh, what a fuss you made in town.
Lambert: Hahaha! My dear, you have my thanks! Your reckless actions led me right to you!
Vania realizes the scene she caused in town is what led Lambert to set his sights on her and her brother.
Vania: This... is all my fault?
Vania: If you hadn't found out we were vampires, then Veight wouldn't have been hurt...
Veight: Stop! This isn't your fault, Vania!
Lambert: Haha! Look at you. You're covered in all that blood, but you still protect her.
Lambert: Even though you know her inability to control herself is what caused all that pain you had to go through.
Veight: Shut your mouth, filth! If you touch her, I'll rip your throat out with my teeth!
Lambert: Haha! In that weakened state? Fat chance.
Lambert: Hmm... Good skinning, like good cooking, requires fresh ingredients. Shall we start with the boy then?
Lambert: It honestly doesn't matter who goes first though. You'll both remain happily in my estate.
Veight: Tch!
Vania: Veight!
Vania tries to stop Lambert from approaching Veight, but as soon as she touches the silver bars her body is electrified with pain.
Vania: Let me out! You did all this for me, right!
Vania: You got what you wanted, so leave him alone!
Somebody, please...
Vania closes her eyes, wishing someone would come save them. That's when she hears a growl from afar.
Malinda: Groo!
Lambert: What the hell!
Lambert: Agh!
Lambert is tackled against the wall by Malinda's overwhelming power.
The dragon then uses her teeth to destroy the bars that hold Vania prisoner.
Vania: Malinda! Thank you!
Malinda: Gyoo!
Vania escapes from the cage, and Malinda reverts to her regular form.
Lambert: Agh...
Vania: We have to go now! Veight, hold onto me.
Vania lends Veight a shoulder and together with Malinda, they leave the room.
Vania: Veight, hang in there just a little longer! Once we find Bloodkin, I'll take care of those cuts.
Lambert: Not so fast!
Vania: That sound!
Lambert blows his whistle and the ground begins to shake. Something mechanical approaches.
Lambert: Long ago there was a machine made of pure silver just to hunt vampires. Took me quite a while to procure it.
From a destroyed wall comes a silver soldier armed with every weapon imaginable.
Anti-Vampire Mech: ...
Veight: Vania, leave me behind and run. We don't both need to die here, so save yourself.
Vania: I won't leave you! We're going back to Bloodkin together!
Veight: We won't make it. Malinda can't fight anymore!
Vania: I don't care. I won't ever leave you behind again!
Vania: You saved me when I was weak, so now it's my turn to save you!
Vania: You're the only precious little brother I have in all the skies.
Vania: So I won't ever abandon you again! No way!
Vania: What's a big sister for, right?
Veight: Vania...
Anti-Vampire Mech: ...
The formidable machine approaches, but Vania doesn't back down.
Lambert: What beautiful love. Hehe. To honor you both, I'll take your lives at the same time.
Lambert: Even if that does cause one of your bodies to spoil a little, it doesn't matter. I'll just need to work faster than usual!
Anti-Vampire Mech: ...
Vania: ...!
Before the machine is able to strike Vania, (Captain) hits first.
  1. Sorry for the wait!

Choose: Sorry for the wait!
Veight: (Captain)!
Vania: Bloodkin!
Vania: About time you showed up!
Rackam: Vania! Veight! Are you okay?
Lambert: What! You couldn't have possibly beaten all of my other soldiers!
Vyrn: Hah! (Captain) can handle way more than that!
Lambert: Damn it! You'll all die together then!
Anti-Vampire Mech: !
Vania: Whatever! No one's scared of you anymore!
Vania: Get ready to face the music! And I'm not going easy on you either!
Vania: Because you've really made me mad!

What Big Sisters Are For: Scene 4

Vania is able to destroy the anti-vampire mech with the help of (Captain) and the crew, and they successfully capture Lord Lambert. Vania apologizes to Veight for her actions and scolds Veight for his reckless behavior. The siblings make up after realizing how much they truly mean to each other and fall asleep on the spot, exhausted.

Anti-Vampire Mech: ...
Vyrn: Is it out for the count?
Anti-Vampire Mech: !
Lyria: Not at all! Here it comes again!
Rackam: Damn! That's one tough piece of metal!
Vania: We'll all be mincemeat at this rate... We need to stop it from moving, even for just a second!
Lambert: Hahaha! What good would that do! Die already!
Veight: That sound!
Veight: (Captain), the whistle is making that thing move!
Rackam: I'll stop the mech, you get the whistle away from Lambert, okay, (Captain)?
(Captain) follows Rackam's command, dodging an attack from the machine and heading straight for Lambert's whistle.
Lambert: What!
With the strike of a blade the whistle is flung, and Vyrn catches it.
Vyrn: Gotcha! Now you can't give that thing any more orders!
Anti-Vampire Mech: !
Rackam: What! I thought this piece of junk would stop if we had the whistle!
Vania: I just need a little more time, Rackam!
Vania takes a deep breath and closes her eyes. Torrents of energy swirl around her.
Lambert: Give your life in vain, I don't care! None of your attacks can hurt my masterpiece!
Vania: You've never seen what I'm about to do! Take this!
Vania: Bloody Absorption!
Anti-Vampire Mech: !
A blinding light floods the room, and the machine goes up in smoke.
Lambert: But... how!
Lambert stares at his broken creation until Vania appears before him.
Lambert: Ah!
Vania: You hurt my friends with that thing and stuffed a dead vampire...
Vania: Not only that... You hurt Veight!
Vania: Said your prayers yet?
Lambert: No! Please! Don't hurt me!
Vania: Take this!
Lambert: Aaaghhh!
Lambert is left unconscious after Vania's strike. The crew ties him up and takes him away.
Veight: Agh!
Vania: Veight, are you okay? I know that must hurt. Just hang in there a little longer.
Veight: All right...
A bruised and beaten Veight struggles to hold his weight.
Vania sees that not only is his stomach wounded, but he has smaller bruises all over his body.
Vania: I'm sorry, Veight.
Vania: I should have listened to you, but I didn't. Now you're all hurt because of me...
Veight is caught off guard by Vania's sincere concern and remorse over her actions.
Veight: ...
It's nothing.
Veight: You're always causing some kind of problem. So long as you know what you did wrong, that's fine.
Veight: I hope you understand now that there are just as many good mortals as there are bad ones.
Veight: Should something similar happen again, none of us may be able to protect you.
Vania: I get it.
Vania: But, I can't forgive you for being so reckless!
Veight: What? I had no choice!
Vania: There's always a choice! Whenever you do things like that, I just get so mad!
Vania: You should know by now that I'm way, way stronger than you!
Veight prepares to counter her words, but when he sees the tears she's fighting back, he swallows his pride.
Vania: So promise you won't do anything like that again.
Vania: I thought you had died. I was so scared!
Vania: Waaa!
Veight: Vania!
Veight: I'm sorry, Vania. I didn't realize what I put you through.
Vania: Sob... You better not ever, ever do that again!
In that moment, Vania and Veight realize how much they truly mean to one another.
The crew looks on with pride.
Vyrn: Hehe! That was quite a scary adventure we had, but at least everyone is safe.
Lyria: Glad they're getting along again!
Rackam: Gave me a heart attack... I hope the little princess learned her lesson.
The crew looks over at the pair to find them both on the floor and rushes over to see what's happened.
Rackam: Hey! Are you okay?
Rackam: Wait a second...
The Two: ...
Vyrn: They're sleeping?
Vyrn: Don't give me a heart attack!
The crew is relieved to find they've both fallen into a light slumber.
Lyria: Aww...
Vyrn: Hm? What now, Lyria?
Lyria: Hehe. Just look at that.
Following Lyria's line of sight, the crew sees that they both rest peacefully holding each other's hand.
The sight of this sibling love brings a little joy to everyone around.

A Hero's Trial

Vania tests Thelonim's ability to serve as her bodyguard, but concludes that he's not ready to assume the mantle. Although he has failed her trial, Thelonim promises Vania that he will one day become strong enough to protect her.

Thelonim: What! No way! You're a p-p-princess?
One fateful day aboard (Captain)'s ship, Thelonim meets Vania for the first time.
He is shocked to learn that Vania is, indeed, a princess.
Thelonim: (Holy moly! I've finally met the real thing!)
Vania: What's with you? Hello?
Thelonim: Ack! Um, er...
Thelonim: Ahem! Allow me to properly introduce myself, princess. I am known as the hero, Thelonim!
Vania: Um... hero? What are you talking about?
Thelonim: I am a devotee of gallantry and fearlessness! Someone who is worthy of your praise!
Thelonim: Princess, I beseech thee! Allow me to protect you! That is my duty as a hero!
Vania: So what you're saying is... you want to serve me?
Vania: Mm-hmm, I see, I see. You want to become my bodyguard!
Vania: But I've already got (Captain), you know!
Thelonim: Wait! As a hero, I am more qualified than (Captain) is!
Vania: Hm... You look kinda wimpy to me.
Thelonim: Ngh...
Vania: And you don't look as dependable as (Captain), either.
Thelonim: Grglrgh... It's true that I'm not that strong right now.
Thelonim: However! I'll definitely become stronger. I'll become the hero you deserve!
Vania: Oh... Is that so.
Vania: Hehehe! Okie dokie. I'll give you a chance!
An impish laugh escapes Vania's lips. Suddenly, she drops down on the floor, cowering in fear.
Vania: Eeek! It's scary! Save me!
Thelonim: Huh? Wh-what's wrong?
Vania: Humph! I'm scared because I'm being attacked!
Vania: And don't ask what's wrong! Say I'm going to save you! You want to be my bodyguard, right?
Thelonim: Ah! I get it now. Sorry.
Vania: Okay, do it again! And this time, protect me like you mean it!
Vania: Eeek! I'm scared!
With his eyes on Vania, Thelonim draws his wooden sword and points it toward an unseen enemy.
Thelonim: Stop right there, fiend! Relinquish yourself from the princess!
Thelonim: Prepare yourself for my ultimate sword strike!
Thelonim: Gallant Smash!
Thelonim: Phew. Are you unharmed, princess?
Vania: It's not over yet, you know.
I'm still so scared! Like, thiiiiis much!
Vania spreads both her arms out wide to show that there are still plenty of foes left to fight.
Thelonim: Whoa, th-that many? Never fear, the hero Thelonim will exterminate them posthaste!
Thelonim swings his wooden sword wildly at invisible enemies until Vania is satisfied.
Thelonim: Haa... haa... I think... that's the last of them... princess...
Vania: Yup! You got them all! Next!
Vania: Brr... It's so cold...
Thelonim: Oh no! Princess! What's wrong?
Vania: No, no, no! Were you even paying attention! Don't ask what's wrong!
Vania: I'm super sick, okay? You have to take care of me quickly!
Thelonim: I'm sorry. Please let me try again!
Vania: Okay! Here we go!
Vania: Hah... Ngh... It hurts...
Thelonim: Pardon my rudeness, princess.
With a serious countenance, Thelonim gently rests the back of his hand on Vania's forehead.
Thelonim: Yeow! You're burning up! What should I do? Ah, I know! I'll look for medicine!
Thelonim gets on his knees, and pantomimes looking through invisible brush. He completes his search and returns to Vania.
Thelonim: This is the fabled herb that cures all ailments! Open wide, princess!
Vania: Haa... Haa... Ngh...
Thelonim: D-did it work? Are you feeling better?
Vania: Yup! I feel much better now! Thanks!
Thelonim: Hehehe. Thank goodness. So what do you think, princess? I'm pretty reliable, right?
Vania: Hm... No, I knew it. You're hopeless.
Thelonim: What? But why?
Vania: Humph! Let me finish!
Vania: I get it. You want to protect me.
Vania: But I don't think you're strong enough for the job yet.
Vania: Whenever I'm in trouble, you need to come flying in to be by my side.
Vania: That means you'll have to become way, way stronger than me.
Vania: And when that time comes, I'll let you take over for (Captain) as my bodyguard, okay?
Thelonim: Really? Then I hereby swear on my honor that I shall become stronger! Strong enough to protect you!
Vania: Hehehe. Good! Pinky swear!
They raise their pinkies in the air.
With both of their pinkies intertwined, the promise is forged.
Vania: Heehee. If you break our promise, you're kaput. Don't you dare forget!
Thelonim: Haha, yes, my lady! I will never forget!
Thelonim bashfully gazes at Vania with a smile as her soft laughter fills the air.
Our young hero vows to become a champion worthy of the little princess. His mission, however, has only just begun.
