Medvecia Concert
While visiting Medvecia for the upcoming concert, the crew is pleased to see how much progress vampires have made toward coexistence with mortals. However, an anonymous threat calling for the concert's cancellation is also a concern.
When (Captain) and company receive news of a large, upcoming concert in Medvecia, they decide to visit the island for the first time in a while.
Medvecia was once a place that shied away from the outside world; however, since then, its residents have come to embrace the idea of associating with those from elsewhere.
The crew arrive at Medvecia, expecting another unpracticed but warm reception. Instead, they are met with a pleasant surprise.
Gentle Vampire: Welcome to Medvecia!
Meticulous Vampire: Allow me to take your bags. Please take this number and give it to the driver before taking the carriage into town.
Lyria: Ah! Um, thank you!
Vyrn: What the... Feels like we're at a resort or something!
Veight: Haha. We've invited quite a large number of guests from the outside world for this concert, you see.
Veight: We looked for a form of hospitality comparable to that of a resort—something that would appeal to our visitors and make them feel welcome.
Lyria: Oh, Veight!
Veight: It's been a while, everyone.
Vyrn: Heheh, that's for sure! I mean, there wasn't even a proper dock last time we were here.
Veight: This can be attributed to Feldrac's diplomacy measures. After all, it'd be impudent of us not to ensure a comfortable environment for our increasing trade partners.
Veight: Well then! Allow me to guide you to town. Vania and the others are waiting there.
The crew follows Veight into a luxurious carriage clearly made specifically for visitors.
After some time, they arrive at the town.
Lyria: Wow... Look at that! Everyone in town is waving at us with smiles on their faces!
Vyrn: Whoa! Heheh, this feels kinda nice!
Lyria: It was really lively when Medvecia had the fireworks festival, but I feel like there're even more people now than before!
Veight: Indeed. We've been receiving a large number of tourists at Medvecia. What's more...
Veight: With Medvecia becoming so popular as of late, we've seen an increase in our vampire residents as well.
Lyria: Vampires too? What does that mean?
Veight: There is a small number of vampires who once left Medvecia and went off to other places, but decided to return.
Vyrn: Right... What a change from when we were being chased as outsiders.
Veight: I would almost consider it a part of our dark past now. The Medvecia we have now is completely different.
Eventually, the carriage slows to a stop.
Vania: (Captain)! What took you so long? I've been waiting and waiting!
Vania: Hehe, but I'm so happy you're here!
Malinda: Gyoo, gyoo!
The recognizable sound of a lute soothes the crew's ears.
Melodious notes flow from a familiar face standing beside Vania.
Sui: A warm welcome to our misty little island, dear visitors from afar!
Amazuma: Look at you, acting like you own the place... You're a visitor too, Sui.
You: Well, I guess we've been here for a while for the big concert, so we're practically living here.
Varga: Yeah! An honorary resident!
Vania: You're a genius, Varga! "Honorary resident" has a nice ring to it, I like it! Officially approved by Vania!
Kou: Haha... How free-spirited...
Malinda: Gyoo...
Sui is a lute player who wields the same power as Kou and You—the power of Ninetails.
Talking good-naturedly beside them are Varga and Amazuma, geniuses at piano and song who have moved to reside in Medvecia.
All of them are old acquaintances and friends of the crew.
Lyria: I'm so glad to see that all of you are doing well! Sui, you'll be playing at the concert, won't you?
Sui: That's right! I'm a guest performer!
Vyrn: A lute performance? That's gonna be a concert to remember for sure!
Veight: And we won't disappoint you. We're putting quite the effort into this concert.
Kou: It's going to be at the biggest theater here, isn't it?
Amazuma: I've seen the place before... It's gorgeous!
Lyria: I can't believe we're going to be able to listen to Sui and everyone perform in such a lovely place!
Varga: And that's not all! There'll be orchestra members from outside this island appearing as guests!
Veight: They've truly put their everything into preparing for the concert. I promise you that the performance will be so spectacular—
Gentle Vampire: Veight, apologies for the disturbance. I have a few things I'd like to confirm with you regarding the venue.
Veight: I'll take a look right away. Think we can increase the capacity?
Gentle Vampire: The thing is...
Varga: Looks like Veight's got some issues to deal with again.
Sui: I'm not surprised, after what happened earlier...
Lyria: Huh? Did something happen?
Vania: Actually... we've received a threatening letter.
Vyrn: Wha! A threatening letter?
Vania: Yeah... It said that if we didn't cancel the concert, they were gonna do some bad things. But we...
Feldrac: We're not about to give in to them.
Lyria: Feldrac! It's been a long time!
Feldrac: Thank you for coming all this way. Despite what you just heard, I do hope you'll be able to enjoy your stay.
Lyria: The threat must be worrying... Will the concert be all right?
Feldrac: In our current state, we can't guarantee absolute safety. If it were possible, I would cancel the event... but it would not be fair to all of our guests.
Lyria: Feldrac... Who would do such a thing though?
Sui: The sender is unknown, of course. No one would write their name clearly on something like that.
Feldrac: No, but I have my suspicions.
Feldrac hands over the letter to the crew.
The words on it are written beautifully in smooth lines.
Vyrn: Never seen this before... What kind of language is it?
Feldrac: They're ancient vampire letters—and the only ones who know how to write these characters are those from Medvecia.
Sui: So you mean the intimidator's a...
Vania: ...
Vania: No way...
Vania: I love everyone here! There's no way anyone in Medvecia would do something like this!
Vania: It has to be a prank by someone else...
Feldrac: That's what I'd like to believe too. I hate to think there would be anyone in Medvecia who'd betray you, Vania.
Feldrac: And yet, we must not succumb to blind belief. If the possibility exists that one of our citizens did this, then we must be vigilant, as much as it pains us.
Vania: But... Hngh...
Veight: Vania. Don't make it any harder than it has to be for Feldrac.
Veight: Rather than remaining in fear, I suggest we do what we can for now and focus on polishing our performance.
Veight: What do all of you think? Why don't we play a tune for our newly arrived visitors?
Vania: Ooh, I like that idea! Being down about it would take away our fun. What do you say, Varga?
Varga: Sounds like a plan! Now, what shall we play?
Veight: Something uplifting would be nice.
Veight and Varga exchange a small smile before sweeping their fingers across the keyboard in perfect harmony. A sweet sound arises from the graceful movement of their fingers.
Sui follows along and plays a bright melody on her lute as Vania and Amazuma sing with smiles on their faces.
The crew take in the dazzling spectacle, briefly putting the looming threat aside and enjoying their time with old friends.
Kou: This is wonderful. Their unwavering desire to make this a good time for everyone... I can feel it in their music.
Vyrn: And here I was thinkin' Veight only played old, stuffy tunes... I'd no idea he could play this kind of music too.
Feldrac: Heh. I would say it's more of a recent development. I've noticed that he's been focusing his efforts on pieces that can entertain others.
Malinda: Gyoo, gyoo! Gyoooo!
Feldrac: Heh... Yes. He has indeed changed quite a lot.
(Captain) nods in agreement.
The captain knows without a doubt that Veight chose this song to lift up the spirits of Vania and everyone else.
Warmed by Veight's kindness, (Captain) is determined to make sure the upcoming concert is a success.
Royal Reverie
Veight and company make acquaintances with one of the mortal performers for the concert. To everyone's surprise, the woman disappears during the concert's climax.
Finally, the day of the concert arrives.
Despite not being a performer, (Captain) feels rather nervous as everyone heads into the auditorium to take a seat.
You: Oooh, it's finally time... It's time, can you believe it? I'm gettin' jittery!
Kou: Haha, there's no reason for you to get nervous, You. I'm sure Sui and the others are beside themselves right about now though.
Veight: Kou's right. Being nervous for the performers is fine and all, but that's no excuse for you to stay up late.
Veight: You really had me flustered when you wouldn't wake up this morning.
You: Sorry... Ehehe. I'd only just fallen asleep when the sun came out, so...
Vyrn: Well, but in the end, Veight was nice enough to show us our seats even though he's so busy organizin' the concert, so I guess it's all good!
Veight: Quite the positive bunch, aren't you?
???: Excuse me.
Suddenly, the crew hear a voice from behind.
They turn to see a beautiful lady looking straight at them.
Graceful Lady: Pardon the interruption, but would you be (Captain)'s crew?
Vyrn: Huh? Yeah, but um... who are you? I don't really remember seein' you around.
Graceful Lady: Oh my! It's an honor to be able to meet the distinguished saviors of Medvecia in person.
Vyrn: Distinguished savior? What the heck's that about?
Graceful Lady: Why, it's part of today's performance—the story of the dragon and the vampire princess! You're part of the tale, aren't you?
Lyria: We are? I didn't know we'd be in the story!
Vyrn: What sort of story's on today's program anyway?
Graceful Lady: Oh dear, did I accidentally spoil it for you?
According to the lady, (Captain) and the crew's past adventures are to be the subject of today's performance.
Once upon a time, (Captain) had joined forces with the vampire princess Vania and her dragon companion, Malinda.
Together, they resolved the conflicts that plagued Medvecia and brought peace once more.
Graceful Lady: My apologies! You see, I'm the violinist for this concert...
You: Oh, you're one of the performers! Is it okay for you to be out here right before the concert?
Graceful Lady: Hehe. I'm the type that needs to keep moving to shake off the nerves. And besides...
Graceful Lady: I really do love today's performance. I just couldn't help myself when I realized I could maybe meet all of you in person!
Graceful Lady: I've already shaken Veight's hand once before, actually. Hehe.
Veight: Right. How you came asking to shake my hand immediately after reading the sheet music left quite an impression on me.
Graceful Lady: I'm rather embarrassed of myself...
Vyrn: This is makin' me blush! Sounds like you really like this story.
Graceful Lady: Of course I do! Not to mention, I've really come to fall in love with Medvecia the longer I stay here.
Graceful Lady: I was under the impression that this fog-shrouded island was going to be a gloomy place, but the architecture and fashion here are just so beautiful.
Graceful Lady: The citizens may be a little shy, but they still do their best to welcome visitors. I felt an affinity with everyone here right away!
Lyria: I can understand that! Everyone in Medvecia has a somewhat endearing side to them, don't they?
Graceful Lady: Indeed! They are absolutely adorable! So much that I sometimes feel like giving them a big hug!
Veight: I'm flattered by your words, but I'm not sure how to react to being called "adorable"...
Graceful Lady: Oh, I'm sorry... In any case, it's truly an honor to be able to perform in such a wonderful country.
Graceful Lady: If possible, may I ask for a handshake from you as well?
(Captain) takes her hand and gives it a shake. The lady thanks the captain profusely before running off to return to the orchestra before the appointed time.
Lyria: Hehe. That made me kind of happy.
Kou: It seems your team's efforts to establish harmony with mortals is going quite smoothly, Veight.
Veight: Yes, I'm glad to see it. It helps motivate us to continue with our endeavors.
Vyrn: Wait! It's about time we got seated too. Otherwise we're gonna miss the show!
Lyria: Oh no, you're right! Let's go, (Captain)!
Their hearts full from the heartwarming interaction, (Captain) and company hurry to their seats.
The concert hall shines with a bright splendor, as if reflecting the promising future that awaits Medvecia.
Veight: The first Medvecia State Concert is about to begin.
Veight: Please enjoy the journey through Medvecia's intricate history.
Sui: It's story time.
You: Whoa! Is Sui up first?
Kou: Shh.
Sui: Okay, 'kay, 'kay, 'kay
Listen up and listen good
You're gonna love this
Sui: Hearken to the tale
Of an island secluded
Once shrouded by mist
Sui: Timeless history
Is the winding odyssey
We shall dive into
Sui's voice is soon accompanied by the sound of a lute, as well as a charming piano melody.
Sui: An ancient bloodline
Renowned for strength and beauty
Yet feared as monsters
Sui: Known as "vampires"
Terrifying, bloodthirsty
Such was their repute
Sui: This was an untruth
Illusion birthed by terror
Violent they were not
Sui: The head of the vampires once said...
Sui: Mere coexistence
An impossible struggle
Our noble hands tied
Sui: Hiding from the world
Clans nobly wasted away
On fog-shrouded land
The music from the orchestra swells together with the story.
The magnificent sounds of the instruments echo with a loneliness, ruminative of the vampires' past.
Sui: One day a princess
Young descendant of the queen
Met a small dragon
Lyria: (Oh, this must be Vania!)
Sui: Branded heretic
For refusal to conform
She gave rise to change
Just then, a crashing sound pierces the air, and the auditorium goes dark.
Lyria: Wha! Um, is this... part of the performance?
Screaming Voice: Aaah!
You: That scream's definitely not part of the show!
The audience grows unsettled, and the sound of panicked footsteps fills the air.
A short while later...
Vyrn: Huh? The lights are back... What's goin' on?
Panicked Voice: Hey, we're missing someone!
Veight: Confound it!
Sure enough, the venue's lights mysteriously return...
Their glow reveals that a member of the orchestra—the violinist who had smiled and spoke so enthusiastically of her love for Medvecia—has disappeared.
Royal Reverie: Scene 2
Another letter arrives at the castle and highlights a plot to bring back Medvecia's prior queen. While Vania is moved by the prospect of seeing her mother again, Veight is more concerned about who might have abducted the performer and suggests they look for info at the forbidden archive.
Veight: (Captain)... I'm sorry the concert had to be canceled.
- Is the missing person okay?
Choose: Is the missing person okay?Veight: As pathetic as it sounds, we haven't been able to find her yet.
Veight: And, well... It pains me to ask a guest this, but do you think...
- Of course.
- Nah.
Choose: Of course.Veight: You didn't even let me ask. Thank you, (Captain).
Choose: Nah.Vyrn: Hey, now's not the time for jokes! This is an emergency!
'Course we'll help with anything you need!
Veight: I appreciate it...
Continue 1Veight: I'd like to ask for your help in keeping the people in Medvecia safe.
Veight: The idea sickens me, but there is a possibility that the abduction was done by a vampire, after all.
Vyrn: Oh yeah... The threatening letter you got was written in the vampiric alphabet too.
Lyria: Do you think it really is a...
Vania: Hngh...
Veight: It wouldn't be right for us vampires to be the ones guarding the guests when the possibility is out there.
Lyria: Right... You can leave everyone's safety to us!
Veight: I'd be forever grateful. All of our guests are staying at the same place—I'll leave the rest of the explaining to my subordinate.
Vania: (Captain)... Sui... Everyone. I'm sorry it turned out like this...
Sui: Why are you apologizing, Vania? It's not your fault. It's the culprit's!
Veight: No... If the culprit really is a vampire, then all of Medvecia will have to take the blame for it.
Veight: Despite receiving the letter, we didn't want to believe it. We didn't want to look at it. We tried to forget about it.
Veight: But as it is now, it's more and more likely that the person responsible for everything is, indeed, a vampire.
Vania: Nobody in Medvecia would do this... I know it...
Malinda: Gyoooo...
Veight: We need to go and discuss this with Feldrac. I'm sorry for the trouble, but I leave our guests' safety in your hands.
Veight: Let's go, Vania.
Vania: All right... Come on, Malinda.
Malinda: Gyoo...
Veight bows his head in apology once more before leaving the room with Vania in tow.
The high spirits seen at the concert venue are long gone, replaced by an eerie silence that sweeps across the island.
Veight: In terms of eyewitness accounts, since the incident took place in the dark, we have practically nothing to work off of.
Feldrac: Is there a chance that the person decided to go missing herself?
Veight: There is, but I don't see a motive for her to do so.
Veight: The person is a guest who is visiting with the orchestra she belongs to. There has been nothing concerning regarding her behavior since arrival.
Vania: The lady was so nice! I didn't feel any bad vibes coming from her...
Feldrac: Right... I agree with the both of you. No matter how you look at the situation, it's quite clear that she's the victim of a crime.
Feldrac: Which means the culprit must truly be...
Gentle Vampire: Pardon the intrusion!
Veight: What's the matter? Did you find something?
Gentle Vampire: Um, actually...
Meticulous Vampire: Another letter in the same format as the threat we received before has arrived. The writing is identical as well.
Vania: Another one! What does it say this time?
Meticulous Vampire: Allow me to read it out.
"Rejoice..."
"Rejoice! On the night of the full moon, our queen shall be brought back with the blood of a wicked mortal."
Veight: What? Is this about the queen again?
The previous queen was the mother of Veight and Vania.
Vania: Mommy?
Veight: (I... I don't understand. This is coming out of the blue. Besides, Mother's...)
Feldrac: ...
Veight: (Wait. Night of the full moon... The blood of a mortal... I've heard these somewhere before.)
Gentle Vampire: The contents are quite startling so I was hesitant in delivering them to you as is, but it seemed right for you to know immediately.
Feldrac: Thank you for bringing the news. It certainly is an absurd matter we simply can't ignore.
Feldrac: The return... of the queen...
Vania: Return?
Feldrac... Didn't Mommy go somewhere far, far away?
Feldrac: ...
Feldrac: Yes. She should indeed be somewhere far from here...
Veight: Feldrac...
Veight: That is not the point in question right now. The culprit—our enemy at hand continues to show unforgivable disdain.
Veight: Regardless of the reliability of the letter's contents, the idea of bringing back the queen through the blood of a mortal is ridiculous!
Veight: It's nothing short of plain objection to what Medvecia aims to achieve now—harmony with the outside world.
Meticulous Vampire: Yes... It's equivalent to suggesting the use of mortals as sacrifices.
Meticulous Vampire: Tch. To think there are still those who think this way... Deplorable fools.
Gentle Vampire: A large-scale investigation into this may be necessary after all. We must fish out the traitor from our people.
Malinda: Gyoo, gyoooo...
Vania: ...
Feldrac: We must not act in haste. Casting suspicion on our own people is a grave matter.
Gentle Vampire: But if we don't do something soon, harm may come to even more mortals!
Veight: Feldrac's right. Ungrounded suspicion may stir up ill feelings among the people. I understand your eagerness to find the culprit, but I ask you to hold back for now.
Gentle Vampire: ...
Very well.
Veight: Still... Sigh. What do you think, Vania?
Vania: ...
Malinda: Gyoo?
Vania: Oh! Um, me? I think... Umm...
Vania: Sorry... I haven't got any ideas yet.
Veight: I see.
Veight: (Vania's really upset by all this...)
Meticulous Vampire: Is it truly possible though?
Feldrac: What is?
Meticulous Vampire: Oh, er... I meant... bringing back the queen.
Meticulous Vampire: The next full moon is in three days. If what the letter is saying is accurate, then...
Gentle Vampire: Are you saying we should just do nothing and watch while victims are killed for the supposed return of the queen?
Meticulous Vampire: That's not what I mean at all! Tch. I have to say, you're becoming rather sensitive with your assumptions.
Meticulous Vampire: What I wanted to say is that we'll need to be all the more careful with what information we release to the people.
Meticulous Vampire: Surely there are those who wish for the queen's return even now. If anything we say influences the will of the people...
Gentle Vampire: That is an insult to the Medvecia that Princess Vania has built up until now! How dare you...
Feldrac: Both of you—
Veight: Enough!
The Two: ...
Veight: Remember what we're having this meeting for in the first place. Is arguing with each other more important than the situation at hand?
Meticulous Vampire: My utmost apologies.
Gentle Vampire: I stepped out of line...
Veight: I'm glad you understand. Now get going with implementing immediate restrictions on arrival and departure, and continue gathering what information you can on this incident.
The Two: Right away!
Veight: Sigh...
Feldrac: ...
Veight: Feldrac? Is something the matter?
Feldrac: No... I was merely thinking how much you've grown. You reminded me greatly of the queen just now.
Veight: I hardly deserve your praise.
I'm guessing the queen was rather strong-willed.
Feldrac: Yes. I haven't told the both of you too much about her, but... she was like a blossoming fire.
Vania: Mommy...
Veight: Vania... Are you all right?
Vania: Yeah... Maybe. I don't really get it... The ritual and everything.
Vania: Does it mean that we'd... be able to see Mommy again?
Feldrac: Whether it will work or not, that is what the letter is suggesting, yes.
Vania: Will we really be able to see Mommy?
Veight: What are you saying, Vania...
Vania: You don't understand... It's just...
Vania: It's just that when that thought came to mind, I felt something inside myself and I really... hated it...
Feldrac: Vania...
Vania: I know I have to be someone like Mommy...
Vania: I have to think for the good of Medvecia's people, especially in times like this when scary things are happening.
Vania: I love all of our friends from outside the island too. But when I heard about Mommy, I couldn't help but... feel a spark inside of me.
Feldrac: There's no need to deny it, Vania.
Vania: Huh?
Feldrac: You have a wonderful resolve, already suitable for that of a ruler. And yet...
Feldrac: You are still young. Wanting to see your own mother again is a natural feeling—you shouldn't dismiss that as a fault.
Vania: Okay...
Feldrac: You too, Veight.
Veight: R-right...
Veight: (Vania is my older sister. As such, she's spent more time with Mother than I have.)
Veight: (That's why I'm sure she misses Mother even more than I do.)
Veight: I need... some time to sort through my feelings.
Veight: That aside, the words in the blackmail letter ring a bell.
Feldrac: Yes, from a certain forbidden book. It sounds familiar to me as well. Let's look for it together.
Veight: I'm not certain though—and I'd hate to waste your time on something indefinite.
Veight: Feldrac, please continue focusing on restoring order in Medvecia.
Feldrac: Very well... Then I entrust the matter of the book to you.
Veight: Yes. We'll need to allow access to the forbidden archive for this matter.
Veight: Vania, you should rest a little. Take care of Malinda.
Vania: Right...
Veight turns away from the others without hesitation. The unwavering resolution on his face is that of a trustworthy leader, capable of guiding his people to a better future.
As for what awaits him in Medvecia's forbidden archive that has been sealed away for many years... only time will tell.
Royal Reverie: Scene 3
After considerable research at the forbidden archive, Veight realizes that bringing back the queen is an impossibility. In order to prove this, he asks Vania to follow him.
Veight confines himself inside the forbidden archive, looking through its books for any clues to resolving the kidnapping incident.
He spends the entire night flipping through volume after volume.
Veight: (It's been a day and a half, and still nothing...)
Veight: (Vania's been coming to tell me how things are going outside, but still...)
Vania: All our guests are feeling down... I don't blame them.
Vania: It must be really scary for them. I wish I could help them feel better...
Veight: (Vania, Malinda, (Captain), and the others are doing their best to calm our guests.)
Veight: (They're doing so well. If it weren't for them, who knows what disputes would have arisen by now...)
Veight: (The full moon's tomorrow night. I have to find something that can help us by today.)
Veight: (The victim's going to die...)
Veight: (Our reputation with other countries would be unsalvageable if we invited a mortal into our midst and allowed her to be murdered in a sickening ritual...)
Veight: (Feldrac's efforts in diplomacy will have been for naught. And more importantly...)
Graceful Lady: Of course I do! Not to mention, I've really come to fall in love with Medvecia the longer I stay here.
Veight: I don't want her to die!
Veight: (She expressed her love for Medvecia and wanted to befriend us of her own accord. I don't want someone like that to die!)
Veight: Not this book... No, not this one either!
Veight continues scouring the numerous volumes in the archive, only to lose heart when he learns nothing useful after what seems like an eternity.
Veight: (Should I really be doing this right now?)
Veight: (I don't want to put suspicion on Medvecia's citizens. Yet, I know I've seen the words from the letter somewhere before... That's all I have to work off of.)
Veight: (Is it right to waste this much time when I know so little? Perhaps I should let our mortal guests out and hold a more in-depth investigation into our residents...)
Veight: (Curses. None of my thoughts are solidifying. Both my mind and body are completely worn out...)
Veight: (I can feel my consciousness... fading...
No! I can't...)
Vania: Aaah! Waaah!
Veight: Oh... Vania's crying. When was this again? I feel it's from a long, long time ago...
Veight: Vania cried so much that I started crying too...
Veight: Waaah!
???: Oh dear. What's wrong, my precious children?
Veight: She stroked my cheek with her warm, comforting hand... and kissed me on the forehead.
Veight: She had a gentle fragrance... The only fragrance that can put me at such ease.
Veight: Mother...
Queen: There, there. It's all right. Don't cry...
Queen: Trust me, okay?
Veight: Gasp!
Veight: A dream... A memory... long-forgotten...
Queen: Trust me, okay?
Veight: Trust...
Vania: I love everyone here! There's no way anyone in Medvecia would do something like this!
Veight: That's right... How can I manage a nation if I can't even trust its citizens?
His determination renewed, Veight begins to sift through the endless pages once more.
Veight: I won't give up until the very end!
And just as the night starts to melt into the dawn...
Veight: Found it!
Veight: That's it... This is it! No doubt about it. Now all that's left is...
Feldrac: Veight! Did you find anything?
Veight: Yes! Can I ask you to procure all records on the increase and decrease of our residents these past few years?
Veight: In the meantime, I'll head to the dock area. I need to look into who's been coming and going from our island.
Feldrac: I can do that, but will you be all right? You haven't taken a rest in days.
Veight: I'll be fine. We need to hurry and collect the evidence we need.
Veight: In essence, working under only assumptions would not be an issue... But right now, the eyes of many countries are on us as we decide how to resolve this incident.
Veight: In order to appease them and the guests staying with us now, we need to work with confidence and show that we are handling this situation with care and precision.
Feldrac: I see... Very well. I trust you, Veight.
Veight: I appreciate it! Then let us proceed.
Veight and Feldrac start on their plan immediately as Vania and Malinda continue doing their utmost in calming the masses.
Finally, the full moon makes its appearance in the sky as the night settles in once more.
Vania: What's wrong? What was it that you wanted to talk about?
Veight: There's something I need to tell you that I haven't yet been able to.
Veight: The queen... or rather, Mother...
Veight: We won't be able to see her. At least not in the way the letter intends.
Vania: Right... I see.
Veight: And I'm about to prove that. I need you to follow me.
Veight breaks his gaze to look up at the moon above them. His shoulders sag, void of strength.
A few moments later, he shifts his eyes back to his sister.
Veight: I'm sorry.
Vania: What's the matter with you? And why're you saying sorry to me?
Vania: You worry too much!
You've always been so kind, Veight... Always taking care of me, even though you're the younger one.
Vania: But I'm the older one between us, remember? So I'll be just fine!
Veight: All right.
Shall we then?
Vania: Yeah!
Royal Reverie: Scene 4
Veight exposes the origins of the ritual to bring back the queen—which requires a mortal as a sacrifice—to be a falsehood that only outcast vampires would place any faith in. He and Vania rescue the kidnapped performer and detain the villain responsible for this incident.
Medvecia Castle—the most sacred place for all who dwell on the island.
In one of the halls of the castle, a magic circle is being roughly etched onto the floor.
???: Now, just need to put a mortal in, and...
Graceful Lady: Hey, let me go! Don't go about murdering me like you're cooking dinner or something!
???: Ugh, you really talk a lot for a weak, short-lived species! Don't think you can go against me, mortal!
Veight: That's enough, you scoundrel! We've caught you red-handed!
Vania: That's my friend! Let go of her right now!
Scheming Vampire: My, oh, my. Are the princess and the prince here to put a stop to the ritual?
Scheming Vampire: I thought someone as noble as yourselves would understand my intentions, but it seems I was mistaken.
Veight: Silence. Get your filthy hands off of our guest.
Scheming Vampire: Filthy hands? Oho! How deplorable. What's filthy is this sad excuse of a blood bag. Why take such pains for it?
Vania: Don't talk that way about my friend!
Scheming Vampire: You mean to say that this wretched outsider is more worthy of your attention than myself, a member of the same wellborn species as yourselves? I am one of you.
Veight: No—you are not one of us. Only the citizens of Medvecia and those we can trust are.
Veight: Outsider? The only outsider here is you.
Scheming Vampire: What?
Veight: Do you really belong in Medvecia?
Vania: Huh? What do you mean?
Veight: This vampire is not a citizen of Medvecia. And this is the proof.
Veight takes out a single volume.
Scheming Vampire: That's...
Veight: This book details the revolting ritual you were attempting to perform.
Veight: "The queen is sealed within the castle up high. Those who crave for her power must awaken her on the night of the full moon."
Veight: "Offer up the blood of a mortal as sacrifice, and follow the instructions below to complete the ritual."
Scheming Vampire: Indeed, this place has become quite illogical as of late, dabbling in nonsense like diplomacy and harmony with other nations.
Scheming Vampire: It is only natural to wish for the return of Her Majesty the queen, who once brought power and glory to Medvecia!
Veight: You're a hopeless fool. It's impossible to bring back the queen with such idiocy.
Veight: Or... perhaps that's exactly why you bothered to believe such absurd gossip.
Scheming Vampire: What did you just say?
Veight: Firstly, the queen is not sealed within this castle at all. She has gone to a place much farther from here.
Veight: The ritual you so eagerly devoted yourself to was a rumor that once circulated, right after the queen had passed.
Scheming Vampire: A rumor?
Veight: Back then, the island was thrown into chaos. No one knew the reason why the queen had disappeared—and that's how the rumor started.
Veight: This book was eventually banned—to no surprise, as it was the cause of much misinformation and insult to the queen herself.
Veight: Current citizens of Medvecia either have never heard anything about this book's contents, or know that it is not credible.
Veight: The only ones that believe anything from this book are the vampires that left the island when the rumors first arose... Those who chased after the queen!
Veight: You're one of the followers of the vampires who were blindly devoted to the queen and believe in the old Medvecia, aren't you?
Scheming Vampire: ...
Veight: Entry into Medvecia has only recently been allowed, and only to travelers.
Veight: You hid the wings on your head and posed as a traveler in order to enter Medvecia again, didn't you? It seems entry inspections will need to be more thorough.
Veight: That was close... I wouldn't have found you even if I had held a full investigation on the citizens of Medvecia.
Scheming Vampire: Hmph. Rather uncouth of you to have found me in such a way.
So it was just a rumor... Sigh.
Scheming Vampire: Well, no matter then. In that case, come with me, prince and princess of Medvecia!
Vania: Why would I do that! Where would we go anyway?
Scheming Vampire: To my master, of course. Let us search for Her Majesty the queen together!
Scheming Vampire: The two of you are the legitimate successors of the queen. With you, surely our search for the queen will be fruitful.
Veight: You're telling us to leave Medvecia? Out of the question. Our duty is to watch over this land.
Scheming Vampire: Is it really? The two of you are still young—why, you are the reason this situation has become so dire.
Scheming Vampire: It is the nature of the heart to waver. Even if I am the cause of this incident, in due time, the hearts of your citizens will change and they will come to revolt against you.
Veight: Rather bold of you to sow such obvious seeds of disaster among us...
Scheming Vampire: Heh heh. Surely you agree that shouldering the burdens of this country are overwhelming. Wouldn't you like to see your mother again?
Scheming Vampire: What are you hesitating for? The answer is clear!
Scheming Vampire: The change of heart in your people is something to be feared. It's hardly a matter the two of you will be able manage on your own.
Veight: ...
Queen: Trust me, okay?
Vania: I love everyone here! There's no way anyone in Medvecia would do something like this!
Veight: Manage...
That will be unnecessary.
Scheming Vampire: What?
Veight: All we need to do is trust.
Veight: I trust in our people. I trust in my sister. I trust in my mother.
Veight: I know the two of us will be just fine. Aren't we, Vania?
Vania: Yep! Together, Vania and Veight are invincible!
Scheming Vampire: You disappoint me... You're nothing but worthless children in your own little fantasy.
Scheming Vampire: I'll show you what an adult can do.
Move aside. I'll slit this mortal's throat and put her head—
Veight: Fool. I wouldn't push your luck—didn't your master ever tell you that?
Scheming Vampire: Wh-what is this magic...
Vania: You'll never win against us! You said it yourself...
Veight: We're the children of the queen you revere so much.
Scheming Vampire: Rrg...
Veight: The heinous crime you've committed is worthy of death.
Veight: Ah. Miss, if you would please close your eyes.
Graceful Lady: Huh? Um, right!
Vania: Okay, here we go.
Veight & Vania: Begone!
Scheming Vampire: Grrg... Graaagh!
Several days later, a simple banquet is held to celebrate the successful capture of the criminal.
Varga: I'm so amazed how the two of you were able to catch the culprit all by yourselves!
Malinda: Gyoo, gyoo!
Kou: Haha... I was quite worried. I'm glad neither of you were hurt.
Amazuma: You got that right! Don't go doing anything too crazy, you hear?
Vania: Hehe! There's nothing that the incredible Vania and Veight can't do!
Veight: As blindly optimistic as that may sound... I would like to think that we're fully aware of our own strength and capability.
You: I guess that's true. No average villain's gonna stand a chance against you two!
Veight: Average villain... Hm.
Veight: (As long as the one the vampire called "master" is of a similar caliber...)
Sui: In any case, how did the incident unfold?
Veight: Well...
Veight tells his friends about the incident and how it ended.
Graceful Lady: Absolutely incredible! Is that what was happening?
Veight: Oh, it's you! Are you sure you're all right to move about?
Graceful Lady: Oh yes, I only suffered some minor scratches. As I was supposed to be a sacrifice, I was handled quite delicately, you see.
Vania: I'm so glad you're okay! Do you want to have a bite of this? What about this dessert over here?
Veight: Once again, I'm terribly sorry for the alarming experience you had to go through during your time here.
Graceful Lady: Not at all! It's too bad the concert had to be canceled...
Graceful Lady: But it's rather nice to have my name included in an event that will be remembered in Medvecia forever!
Veight: I... commend your courage. And, thank you.
Sui: Still... You're amazing, Veight. Truly...
Veight: Hm? What do you mean?
Sui: You're so strong. If someone told me there was a chance I could see my parents again... I just might follow them.
Veight: My mother's words helped me through it.
Veight: In a way, I suppose I'm not quite independent from my mother just yet. I'm not as strong as you think.
Vania: Ohh?
Veight: ...
What is it?
Vania: Oh, nothing! Here, why don't you let big sister Vania cheer you up?
Vania: There, there! Pats for my little brother!
Veight: H-hey, stop that! You're messing up my hair!
Seeing Vania ruffle Veight's hair affectionately, (Captain) and the others join in.
Though the threat of those devoted to the queen still lingers...
Veight and Vania possess an unbending will that'll undoubtedly help them guide Medvecia to a future they envision.
