Happy Birthday Cutscenes
# Link Text
1

Here, (Captain). This is from me.
When I was young, I only got to celebrate my sister's birthday.
It goes without saying that my foray into buying a gift wasn't easy...
I don't know if my selection is any good, but I'll call it a victory if it puts a smile on your face.
At least now my nights of tossing and turning are behind me.
Ah, sorry. That's just putting more pressure on you, which isn't my intention.
Anyway, happy birthday, (Captain). Let's enjoy the celebration.

2

Happy birthday. As always, I'm happy to be celebrating it with you, but there's a deeper meaning behind it.
When the whole ship is alive with this much jubilation, it's easy to tell how everyone adores you, (Captain).
Back in Istavion, my birthday parties were lavish affairs, but they weren't really for my benefit—just another way for people to stay on His Majesty's good side.
Essentially I don't think anyone has ever celebrated my birthday with sincerity.
Ever since I came aboard this airship, I've been forced to make many introspections.
Which isn't a bad thing. Being able to impartially reflect on the past is a sign that I'm leaving the old me behind.
I'm changing, and it's most assuredly in part thanks to you, (Captain).
Please accept my thanks along with my congratulations.

3

I believe a heartfelt "happy birthday" is in order.
This isn't much, but I hope you like it.
Ideally I would've liked to get you something you truly covet.
But knowing you, the things that are highest on your wish list are things you'd rather obtain with your own hands.
And I think that suits you just fine. It would be my pleasure to help you find what you're looking for.
Once again, I wish you a very happy birthday.

4

Happy birthday. I've celebrated it with you several times now, which got me to thinking...
It seems to me that it's a miracle that we're able to celebrate together.
Neither of us are living easy lives.
But we've lived through everything that's come at us to see another year. We shouldn't fail to appreciate that.
So please, let me be able to celebrate with you again next year.
...
Sorry, I got a bit sentimental. This is no face to show you on your birthday.
Come now, let's go to the banquet. I've invited my favorite chef to the castle.
He'll be making one of my most recommended dishes. I hope that you'll like it.

Happy New Year Cutscenes

1

You want to hear my goals for this year?
Now that I think about it, aside from kingdom and organizational-related goals, I haven't decided what to do personally.
Istavion celebrates the new year like anywhere else. All I remember is being busy during that entire period.
If I had to come up with a resolution, perhaps it would be to finally conquer you this year.
Heh... That was a joke. Don't take it seriously.
At least not yet.

2

Do you remember the resolution I made last year? About how I would conquer you?
Was I successful? Have you finally fallen under my spell?
What? You assumed I was joking?
Hm... True, I vaguely remember trying to pass off my resolution as a joke...
It's too late to turn back the clock, but I was actually being serious. I only called it a joke to hide my embarrassment.
It has always been my intention over the past year to carefully but firmly wind you around my finger...
I see. Even that sounds like a joke to you. No wonder it feels like there's still a wall between us.
This year I'm going to focus on wearing down your defenses. I dare you to resist.

3

Regarding the resolution I made last year to wind you around my finger...
Don't you think it's time we built a new home for the two of us?
Calm down. I was merely making a joke.
You're still on your journey, thus this ship is essentially your home.
In that case, what do you say to shopping for new furniture?
The dawning of a new period in life necessitates new furnishings.
Take a look at this catalog. I've already circled items that caught my eye.
It would be nice if they matched your preferences, but if not... pretend they do.

4

Are you familiar with New Year's prayers, (Captain)?
One of the more common ones is for household stability. Quite a noble wish, don't you think?
As you'd imagine, it's particularly popular among families.
...
On that note, I was thinking that we should go pray for household stability at a shrine.
The fate of not only Istavion, but all of the skies rests on our house's shoulders after all.
I don't know how effective such a prayer would be, but I'm sure it can't hurt.
You'll come with me, won't you? Just give me a moment to get ready.

Valentine's Day Cutscenes

1

Ah... (Captain)...
As you know, it's Valentine's Day.
I never gave the holiday much thought until recently, when I coincidentally learned the meaning behind the custom.
In short I don't have anything for you. This was my blunder.
"Think nothing of it," you say? That's not what I want to hear from you though.
Don't you see? There are some failures in which I do want to be called out on.
Never mind. Don't make me spell it out for you.
I will rectify this year's mistake with a proper gift next time. Do look forward to it.

2

Loud noises coming from the galley draw (Captain)'s attention. The captain peeks inside and spots a pair of ears.
...
(Captain)... Why did it have to be you passing by...
Go ahead—laugh. Everything spilled on the floor, and I was in the middle of cleaning it up.
What was I doing? This is the galley. It's Valentine's Day. Obviously I was making something.
My gift to you last year was a failure. I was going to make up for it this year, but as you can see, it's not going well.
What? You want to help me make the chocolates... that I'm going to give you anyway?
Hm...
All right. I'll swallow my pride and accept your aid. It seems I won't be able to get anything done on my own.
And if luck is on my side, the two of us may make a habit of using the galley together in the future.
But first, can you help me sweep up this mess?

3

I'm glad you're here, (Captain).
Take these chocolates I made.
Well? Why are you just standing there, holding them? No, I'm not waiting for you to heap me with profuse thanks.
I'm waiting for you to try one. Yes, right here. In front of me.
Since I made them myself, I don't expect them to live up to any standard. They could even be called failures.
But at least I'll know I pushed myself to my limits.
Which is why I want you to taste them right now, and tell me truthfully how awful they are.
I, Alliah Istavion, can't even adequately wield the spatula and whisk. Do not sugarcoat the disgrace I sorely deserve.
Bite into mediocrity and humiliate me with every conceivable insult you know.
Do it!

4

...
This is the chocolate I made this year. Take it.
All year I've been using whatever time I could find to practice making chocolate.
I think I've finally gotten it up to a level where a store might consider stocking it.
Now eat.
Is it good? That's only to be expected, considering that Alliah Istavion herself poured her heart into it.
What? You think that stores wouldn't just stock it, but advertise it?
How naive! My efforts are nothing compared to those of a true chocolatier! This is nowhere near good enough to earn such an honor!
However, it does make me happy to hear you say that.
I suppose I'll keep working at it. Perhaps we'll be able to open a patisserie together one day.
That was a joke, of course. The patisserie part, not the working at it part.

White Day Cutscenes

1

A White Day present for me?
What's the catch?
I see. White Day is the counterpart to Valentine's Day.
I didn't give you anything for Valentine's though. Why present me with such an ornate gift?
As a token of appreciation?
Okay. I will gladly accept it if that is how you feel.
I won't forget this gesture of good will. Next year you'll be in for a surprise.

2

Is this a return gift for Valentine's Day?
...
It's not that I'm unhappy. I'm just disappointed I couldn't make something worthy of being called a Valentine's Day gift.
So for me of all people, Alliah Istavion, to accept a gift under these circumstances feels like charity.
Actually, maybe it's fitting that I'm being consoled just because I'm disappointed with my chocolate-making skills.
Haha... How the mighty have fallen...
Very well. So be it. I must accept who I am. I won't turn away your generosity.
Whether you're offering me candy, knickknacks, a ring, flowers... Did I say ring already? I will not refuse any of it.

3

What's this?
Just a gift in return for Valentine's Day? Are you sure you aren't hiding a different purpose?
Hm, you seem confused... Maybe it's all in my head.
Never mind then.
But as the recipient, I am free to interpret your gift-giving however I please, regardless of your actual intent, am I not?
So what if I were to treat this gesture as something more serious, such as say...
A marriage proposal?
Hmph. It was a joke. You needn't bulge your eyes at me.
I appreciate the gift. I'll be sure to enjoy it.

4

Ah, a White Day gift. Thank you.
What? You want me to eat it right now? Well, I suppose I can't complain, considering how many times I've made you do the same thing.
Hm, very good. Just as sweet as I like it.
What? You've been practicing too? To open our patisserie?
I told you that was a joke. We can't just—
Wait, I see... You're talking about once we grow old, aren't you? We'll have to step down at some point after all.
After we leave everything to our successors and retire, we open a little patisserie together... Not a bad idea.
But to think that you were planning that far ahead... I'll have to step up my game.

Who goes there!
Oh, it's just you under that getup, (Captain). I nearly split you in half.
Sigh... Is this how people on Halloween get their jollies? By making mischief?
What? You're handing me a costume?
I didn't realize you went out of your way to get me one.
...
Oh, very well. Seeing as how it's a special occasion, it might be fun to give it a try.
But that doesn't change the fact I still think you're all a rowdy bunch.

2

Alliah: Hm... People are practically shoulder to shoulder. The exuberance shown on Halloween never changes.
But that doesn't mean I'm above enjoying the celebration.
I have candy at the ready for when the children come asking. And yet...
Kids: ...!
Alliah: Did you see that? Why do they cower from me?
Smile for you?
That's easy. Watch.
Hnh!
I think you'd agree that was a splendid smile.
What! You think it's scary?
I... see. So that's why...
The truth hurts sometimes, but that's how it goes. Although Halloween is a day for frights, it should also be a day for delights.
Very well. (Captain), I need you to join me in a bit of smile training.

3

???: ...
Alliah: Y-yaaah!
...
Ugh, that was pathetic!
With today being Halloween and all, I intended to let you frighten me.
Thus I ventured into town to pick up on what is normal expected behavior, which I then attempted to emulate...
But I just can't get over my self-consciousness.
Even though I told myself to bite the bullet and deal with the embarrassment, once I actually tried it...
What a mess. I'm going to need more Halloweens under my belt.

4

I know this is sudden, but could you startle me?
I seem to be too scary to pass out treats, but on the other hand I'm not suited to frightening people either.
So it occurred to me that all that's left is to become the one who gets startled by tricks.
However, it wouldn't be proper for someone of royal blood to scream in fright before the masses.
But in front of you, there's no problem with me getting as frightened as I want.
Please, help me enjoy Halloween properly!
Don't hold back! Come on!
Why are you acting startled? Surely the one doing the trick doesn't need to mentally prepare themselves!

Happy Holidays Cutscenes

1

How long has it been since I was able to enjoy a winter holiday like this? On second thought, this is probably a first for me.
Although Istavion holds grandiose festivities in its own right, a shadow of austerity seems to hang over the entire event.
I don't get that feeling with your crew. Everyone participates in a rambunctious fashion.
And that's normal? Hm... I find that absolutely refreshing.
Heh. Then just for today, I'll step out of my comfort zone too.
You'll be accompanying me, won't you, (Captain)? I won't take no for an answer.
Haha... Tonight, sleep is for the weak.

2

As the holy night approaches, the towns grow livelier and livelier.
I never imagined I would be out shopping with just the two us, but I'm learning much about regular society.
However, I find these decorations to be lacking. The ornaments we have at the palace are far and away more exquisitely crafted.
Despite that, there is one thing this town exudes that I never experienced in my entire time living in the palace: a sense of joy and anticipation for the holidays.
I don't know why my heart won't stop pounding. Why do I feel so restless? So impatient?
Let us return to the airship. I feel the onset of a smile, and I do not wish to walk the streets grinning like an idiot.
No, wait. There is no need to take the direct path back. We may as well take the scenic route.
This feeling of holiday cheer is a breath of fresh air. I don't mind relishing the mood if it's with you.

3

???: Ahem.
Hey. Wake up.
Alliah: Good. You're finally up. I have a present for you.
Oh, don't look so bewildered. Is it not customary to sneak into someone's room on the eve of the big holiday in order to give that person their gift?
I have fond memories of grand galas and fancy balls during this season, but I think I can get used to a more intimate approach to celebration.
Hm? I'm... not supposed to wake the recipient up?
Rather, I should have stealthily placed the gift by the bedside and stolen away? What a peculiar tradition...
I see. It appears the royal tutelage I received has a few flaws...
Then let us execute a redo. Return to sleep, and I shall place the gift and leave.
Come now. Close your eyes and count sheep.

4

(Right, (Captain) is probably asleep by now.)
(This is enough waiting. This year I'll place the present and leave without being noticed, just like the tradition goes.)
(I hope I chose a good gift...)
Wha— Why are you awake?
You were looking forward to me coming? But that isn't how the tradition is supposed to work!
You did it because I was so funny last time? I see... Well, I'm not opposed to you finding me amusing, but...
But you're the leader of this crew. You shouldn't be deliberately causing yourself to lose out on sleep.
Now get back to bed. This present won't be leaving my hands until I hear snoring.
I'll be watching you until I'm sure you're asleep.

The Previous King's Room

Alliah and the castle attendants prepare the previous king's room for (Captain), who has been appointed as the new True King. As they sort through the previous king Tau'luk's strangely impersonal possessions, they find a single bottle of herbal liquor from Levin. That night, Alliah tries the liquor for herself as she thinks about her father.

Alliah: Well then.
After many twists and turns, Alliah's father Tau'luk resigned from his position as True King.
Tossed left and right by the succession of the throne, Alliah had found herself trapped in a perplexing situation—however, things have changed since.
Alliah: Let us begin our preparations to welcome the new king.
Attendant: Very well, Lady Alliah.
Alliah has been preparing as calmly as possible for the arrival of (Captain), who has been appointed as the new king.
Alliah: First, we need to organize the former king's personal belongings. Aside from the books and notes, transfer everything to the storage.
Alliah: After that, prepare new cutlery, clothing, and bedding.
Alliah: Ideally, I want these items to be made in Phantagrande so they will be familiar to (Captain), but if the items are not readily available, arrange for them at a later time.
Alliah: We will be replacing everything before (Captain)'s arrival. Be advised, everyone.
Attendant: Understood, my lady.
At Alliah's words, the attendants begin their work. Alliah herself starts to sort through the former king's possessions.
Alliah: Notebooks and diaries... I suppose we can leave these.
Alliah: Scepter, crown, formal robes... We can leave the crown jewels for now, but the robes will need to be retailored.
Alliah: And then we have... underwear and socks... We're throwing all of these out.
Alliah rummages through every corner of the wardrobes and drawers, combing through the items one by one.
Alliah: ...
Alliah: (This room is uncanny, just like its previous owner. All his belongings are things related to his role as ruler... It's stifling in here.)
Alliah: (I would feel better if I found at least something like a love letter addressed to Mother. Not that I particularly want to see that either.)
Alliah: (I just... don't understand where that man put his emotions. I can't feel anything from this room...)
Alliah: (The warmth of that man as a person is... inexistent.)
Alliah: ...
Alliah: It's almost as if...
Attendant: Lady Alliah? Is something wrong?
Alliah: It's nothing...
For the toiletries, we'll choose suitable things for the new king later.
Attendant: Very well... Hm? Lady Alliah, look.
Alliah: Is that a bottle of... alcohol? Seems rather aged. It says it's an herbal liquor from Levin...
Alliah: I know of Levin's wine, but herbal liquor? I've never heard of anything like that...
Alliah: Why is a valuable—or rather, niche—item from a country we have no diplomatic relations with here?
Attendant: I do not recall the former king partaking in any alcohol during his meals. Could it be something he enjoyed in his personal time?
Alliah: ...
Attendant: What should we do with this bottle, Lady Alliah?
Alliah: I'll keep it for now.
Attendant: Very well, then I will have it brought to your room.
Alliah: Thank you.
That very night...
Alliah: ...
Alliah sits lost in thought, staring at the half-empty bottle of herbal liquor she found earlier in the king's room.
Alliah: What in the skies is this... I don't understand at all.
Alliah: This was the one personal touch in a room otherwise devoid of personality.
She pours a little of the dark brown liquor into a glass, swirling it around before putting it to her lips.
Alliah: Ngh... It's so strong...
A unique fragrance fills her senses, a warm sensation traveling from her mouth to her throat, and finally down to her chest.
Alliah: Did that man drink this all by himself? Did he actually... enjoy his time in this way?
Alliah: He was someone who had everything perfectly under control—even matters concerning his family or himself.
Alliah: The man readily let go of the throne and forced it upon (Captain), who is still of tender age.
Alliah: He even devised a plan knowing I would step in and lend my support. That was the type of person he was—and yet...
Alliah: He would drink something fragrant like this quietly in his own room...
Alliah: ...
Alliah: Look at me, reminiscing while holding onto the possessions of someone no longer here...
Alliah: It's as if I'm going through possessions after a funeral.
A wave of emotions washes over Alliah as an image of her father appears in her mind.
Alliah: Are all of these reservations inside me also part of that man's plan?
Alliah: I just don't know.
Alliah: ...
As the hour grows later and later, Alliah finds herself unable to stop gazing at the dark liquid within her glass.
Her only company, the light from a nearby candlestick, flickers in quiet sympathy.

Unexpected Visitors

When Vyrn and the others try to go out to search for (Captain), they are stopped by Alliah, who does not want the crew to fall under any danger. Surprised at her own actions, Alliah realizes she does not want (Captain) to experience the loneliness she experienced on entering her father's empty room—yet also wonders what motivates that feeling.

Alliah: Please retire here after finishing your duties for the day. Be sure to inform the servant when you need to leave.
(Captain): ...
Alliah: But aside from blood relatives and the specially appointed servant, please refrain from letting anyone else in this room.
Irotis: Sniff... I'm sorry...
Irotis: I'm so sorry!
The kidnapping of the True King within the castle—an unprecedented event—had thrown Alliah and those who knew of the situation into an uproar.
Alliah: ...
Vyrn: For now, we'll go on a search with everyone at the castle.
Alliah: Wait. I don't think your crew... should make any bold moves.
Vyrn: Wha? Why's that?
Alliah: It is most likely the leader of the Blue Liberation Front who has kidnapped (Captain).
Alliah: If the leader has decided to do so personally, there is a high possibility that some sort of major operation is on the move.
Alliah: Perhaps they were planning to throw the country into turmoil by kidnapping its leader.
Alliah: I would like to resolve this issue behind closed doors with as little fuss as possible.
Vyrn: Are you tellin' us to just sit back and wait?
Alliah: I'm sorry, but... yes. After all, it is very likely that you will be the next targets.
Alliah: I am having the best soldiers from the Istavion army as well as the White Knight look into the matter. There... should be nothing to worry about.
Alliah: ...
Time passes as Alliah waits together with (Captain)'s crew for further news.
Alliah: (I can't believe I told the crew not to take action as a precaution for what the Blue Liberation Front might do. I'll admit, that was a rather strange excuse...)
Alliah: (Why did I stop them like that?)
Glancing over at the crew members who are quietly awaiting (Captain)'s return, Alliah searches inside herself for some kind of motive.
Alliah: (For some reason, I didn't want to put them in any sort of danger whatsoever.)
Alliah: (Is it because my pride is wounded from having the king kidnapped right under my nose, and I didn't want that to happen again?)
Alliah: (I can't leave this place while the king is absent. That's why I wanted the crew to be where I can see them...)
Alliah: (No, that's not all.)
Alliah: (When I was in that man's room to clean it in preparation for (Captain)'s arrival...)
Alliah: ...
Alliah: (I felt lonely.)
Alliah: (And if I felt that way, about even a parent I hardly shared an emotional bond with...)
Alliah: (The thought of seeing (Captain) return to find no one left—no one but a political marriage partner—is too much to even bear.)
Alliah: (So... is this for my own sake, or that of others? Good luck detangling that one, me.)
Alliah: ...
Alliah: (Assuming I were doing this for the sake of (Captain)... Why? What reason have I to get so involved?)
Alliah sits in the quiet castle, remaining vigilant for any attacks from the Blue Liberation Front.
However, emotions continue to churn inside her as she questions herself over and over.

Unexpected Visitors: Scene 2

Some time after (Captain)'s kidnapping incident, Alliah pays an early visit to the True King's room to oversee the king's morning meal. To her surprise, Lyria, Vyrn, and Io emerge from their hiding place and admit to having stayed overnight, despite the room being off-limits to anyone who is not a blood relative or a designated attendant. When Alliah calls for breakfast to be prepared for the other crew members, (Captain) asks for Alliah's portion to be brought as well.

Some time has passed since the unexpected incident with (Captain)'s kidnapping.
Alliah: ...
Alliah: (How many years has it been since I was last here to present at the king's morning?)
Alliah: (When I was a child, every morning I would watch as that man got up and had his breakfast. I did what I was expected to do, and we never spoke to each other.)
Alliah: (I watched as he carried the food to his mouth, never saying a word on the taste. The epitome of stifling.)
Alliah: (I should stop thinking about that. The person in the king's room now is not that man anymore.)
One early morning, Alliah accompanies an attendant and visits the king's room to wake (Captain).
Alliah: It's me. Your breakfast is ready—may I come in?
Alliah: ...?
Alliah senses panic in the air emitting from the room.
(Captain) appears at the door, looking disheveled and breathless.
Alliah: What's going on in there?
The captain smiles and tries to wave off the question. Deciding not to pursue the matter, Alliah directs the attendant to bring (Captain)'s breakfast into the room.
Attendant: Today's breakfast is a chilled appetizer consisting of Tranquion chicken, along with apple jelly—
Just as the attendant lays the dishes onto the dining table, there is a sudden interruption.
???: Gah! My stomach rumbled...
???: Shh! Lower your voice!
Attendant: U-um, Lady Alliah... Was that...
Alliah: ...
Alliah: Why don't the three of you come out?
Lyria: Oh, um... Haha...
Alliah: What is the meaning of this? I believe I've already said that no one other than blood relatives and designated servants are allowed in here.
Io: I'm sorry! It's my fault, I insisted on seeing what the inside of the king's room looked like!
Vyrn: And, well... Lyria and I wanted to see too, so we came along...
Io: And then we ended up staying here for the night...
Alliah: ...
With a scratch of the head, (Captain) apologizes to Alliah, who can't help but crack a smile.
Alliah: Bring three more sets of breakfast.
Attendant: Oh, um, very well... Are you certain, my lady?
Alliah: If the king has approved of this, then it's fine.
Alliah: After all, unlike the previous king, our new ruler has more friends than foes.
Alliah: (The room's customs were arbitrary to begin with—rules that man decided on himself.)
Attendant: Understood. Then I shall have three more portions brought—
  1. Plus one more for Alliah!

Choose: Plus one more for Alliah!
Alliah: For me?
Attendant: A-as you wish, Your Majesty.
Vyrn: If we're gettin' food, then you should too, Alliah!
Io: Yeah.
Alliah: ...
Very well. Then allow me to join you.

Unexpected Visitors: Scene 3

(Captain) and company crowd around the small, single-person table and begin a lively breakfast. Amused at the contrast between this and the previous king's mornings, Alliah realizes she simply feels happy to have new family members who care about her, blood relation or no. Having found a satisfying answer for her desire to support (Captain) as partner, she smiles and joins in enjoying the meal.

Io: Kinda squished here, huh?
Alliah: This table was only meant for one person, after all.
Lyria: Ahaha...
The five of them sit around the small table in the room, shoulders rubbing against one another's.
Attendant: My apologies. I believe the table will not be big enough to fit all of these plates...
Vyrn: Then how 'bout we just plop the whole platter on top of the table and eat off that?
Io: Sure, I don't mind.
Alliah: ...
Very well. Do as he says, please.
Alliah gestures to the attendants, who promptly bring out the spread. The five begin their meal.
Io: It's pretty cramped... Why don't you sit on (Captain)'s lap instead of a chair, Vyrn?
Vyrn: But then I'd get in (Captain)'s way.
  1. Seconds, please!

Choose: Seconds, please!
Attendant: S-seconds? U-um, very well.
Alliah: Does... anyone else want seconds?
Lyria: I do!
Io: Me too.
Vyrn: I want another bowl of the apple stuff.
Alliah: Pff... Haha. Then I shall have seconds myself.
Attendant: Y-yes, my lady.
Vyrn: What's the matter with you two? You both keep widenin' your eyes and chucklin'.
Alliah: It's my first time hearing the word "seconds" said in this kind of setting.
Attendant: I-it is my first time as well.
Alliah: The king's meal had always been a rather stuffy affair, but now... it feels as if we are sitting at a restaurant in town.
Alliah: (It's not only about getting seconds. This is the first time I've ever been invited to dine with someone else in this room.)
Alliah: ...
Alliah: (The one who, with nothing to gain, risked everything to save my life...)
Alliah: (And—though it not be by choice, and in name only—joined my family...)
Alliah: (Despite it all, is here treating me like family, as naturally as the sun. And as my blood relatives have each disappeared, one after the other...)
Alliah: ...
(So that's why. It's because this made me happy.)
Alliah: (Even if we are bound by not blood nor vows, I still want to be there for (Captain). If not as spouse, as partner; as family.)
Alliah: I can get used to this.
Alliah finds herself enjoying the unexpected breakfast in the king's room—a situation she never would have imagined before.
She smiles contentedly, taking the time to savor each and every moment.
