After being rescued from monsters as a child, Jin took up the sword to become like his savior. His greatest wish is to help others, but the daily struggle to make ends meet means he sometimes has to abandon his ideals in the face of reality. From what he has heard, the person who saved Jin called himself a samurai, but Jin doesn't know much more beyond that, up to and including his hero's whereabouts. That doesn't stop him from attempting to emulate the ways of this so-called samurai. Although easy-going and good-natured at heart, Jin has a childish side when it comes to dealing with medicine and doctors.

Trivia

  • Though his weapon is classified in-game as a katana, it is actually a tachi, the predecessor of the katana with a longer blade and a steeper curve. They were primarily used by 9th to 14th century samurai. He also carries his sword in tachi-style, suspended with the blade facing down.

Happy Birthday Cutscenes
# Link Text
1

Happy birthday. I feel compelled to do something special to honor this wonderful day.
It's thanks to you, Captain, that I have been set upon this path.
I intend to repay that debt, even if it takes me the rest of my life.

2

Congratulations on growing another year wiser, (Captain).
I look forward to seeing you continue to forge your own path into the future.
I believe the justice I seek lies in whichever path you decide to tread.
But I'm just a rambling old man.
All I really want to say is that you should do whatever feels right to you, (Captain).

3

Happy birthday, Captain. It is an honor to continue to protect and serve you.
We people are infinitesimal things. Even though people are capable of much, true accomplishments are not achieved alone.
It is only through working hand in hand that we can realize grander victory.
So I give you my hand to forward your own goals, Captain. I am looking forward to seeing how you progress throughout this year.

4

I'm delighted that you have successfully endured another year of life.
Making it through a year safely is a more difficult endeavor than one might imagine.
Many challenges can stand in your way as you pursue your goals.
I'm so pleased that you have overcome those hardships and stand safe and sound before me.
Happy birthday.
You can count on my assistance until you've accomplished your goals—no, even afterward.
I will do all I can to ensure that we will be able to celebrate your birthday like this each year.

5

(Captain), I cannot be more glad to celebrate your birthday with you again this year.
Actually, I have prepared a present for you on your special day.
Haha, did it surprise you?
It's a sake I prepared when we first met several years ago.
It's something that gets better with age, and should be of the finest quality by the time you reach adulthood.
I pray for your health and safety until the day we can drink this together, and every day after that.
I, too, will put in my best efforts so that I can celebrate with you again next year, and the year after, and in the years that follow.

Happy New Year Cutscenes

1

Happy New Year. May this year be just as good as the last.
Now then, enough formalities. Let's eat!

2

Happy New Year, (Captain). You can count on my support this year too.
Know that I'll be right behind you to the ends of the skies and beyond.
Ha-ha. A little too formal, huh? I just thought I'd say it formally to mark the new year.
We can enjoy the fun times only because there are times when we must focus. Balance in everything is what counts.

3

A splendid new year to you! I hope that our crew continues to prosper.
I intend to work just as hard as before so that you may successfully find your way to the end of the skies.
Haha... I suppose I'm being overly formal for the first day of the new year. But not without good reason.
A fresh year presents a unique opportunity to begin anew. It truly is a splendid time to change one's attitude.

4

Happy New Year. Here's to another year of journeying together.
I intend to do my utmost to be an asset to your crew, Captain.
Ha-ha. I apologize for being so formal every year.
But I believe it's important for me to put my feelings into words. I appreciate you being willing to hear me out.
Now then, all this formality is exhausting.
What do you say we replenish our energy by enjoying a delicious New Year's meal!

5

Auguste's fishermen swim through winter waters as a way of praying for a year's worth of large catches.
I was thinking of doing the same thing to pray for our crew's health and good fortune.
Haha, don't look so worried. I'll come back unharmed.
The cold never bothered me anyway. On the contrary, taking in cool air and cold water is quite refreshing.
It's a good training opportunity too!
Now, I must be off.
... Heave-ho!

Valentine's Day Cutscenes

1

Today is Valentine's Day... That must be why Sara and Volenna gave me candy.
Wait... you have some for me too? I am unworthy! Thank you, (Captain)!

2

Huh? This chocolate's for me?
No, I... Um... Ha-ha. I am grateful for this.
Oh, no, no! I'll gladly take it.
I'm just a bit embarrassed to be getting Valentine's chocolate from such a lovely young lady.
Sorry if I seem hesitant. I'm just a bit awkward when it comes to these things.

3

What! Valentine's chocolate for me? I... am indebted.
I rely on your help day in and day out, so it comes as a surprise that I would be the one receiving a gift.
Ah, sorry. Focusing on my flaws over your generosity seems uncouth.
Thank you for your kindness, (Captain). I will savor them.

4

Captain? What is this?
I see, so today is Valentine's Day. Thank you for going to so much trouble. I respectfully accept your thoughtful gift.
Ha-ha. That's odd... Suddenly I feel a bit nervous.
I am a man after all. I am not without my pride.
If I didn't receive anything for Valentine's Day, I suppose I would feel rather depressed.
But thanks to you, I didn't have to feel that disappointment. I'm grateful for your courtesy each year.
Thank you again, Captain. I will savor each bite.

5

Is... Is this Valentine's chocolate?
I am humbled by your kindness. Thank you very much.
The truth is, Soriz has been restlessly nervous for today...
And his nervousness must have rubbed off onto me. I was afraid I wouldn't receive anything this year.
Not that I doubted you would remember. Haha, it's a bit embarrassing to admit something like this at my age.
In all seriousness, I truly am grateful. Thank you, (Captain). I will treasure every bite.

White Day Cutscenes

1

Today is White Day, yes? Won't you accept this, (Captain)?
I imagine the others have already given you sweets, so I went with something more savory.
It's thanks for everything you do... which I realize sounds a little matter-of-fact, but I had to make it known somehow.

2

Ha-ha. Looks like a busy day for you, (Captain). I'll try to keep this short.
Please accept this as a token of my thanks.
I wasn't sure what kind of gift would be appropriate for a young lady like you.
But I picked this out after consulting with Volenna and Sara. What do you think?
You like it? Whew, thank goodness!
I expect to be able to choose a gift on my own next time. I just hope you're not expecting anything too fancy.

3

(Captain), would you please accept this?
What? It's nothing strange. Just some sweets for White Day.
I went all around the market looking for something perfect, but I wasn't sure what to purchase.
Perhaps I should've consulted with Sara or Volenna before settling on something...
You're just happy to receive something?
Haha. That's our captain for you—as kind as ever. I just hope you actually like them.

4

Please accept this White Day gift, Captain.
By using what I learned from Volenna and Sara last year as a reference, I selected your gift all on my own this time.
I decided on this one because I thought it was pleasing to the eye... but what do you think?
I think the wrapping is quite charming, if I do say so myself.
Is that so? I'm delighted to hear it! Oh my, I'm so relieved.
That being said, they're sweets, so the taste is obviously important as well.
I hope you will find them to your liking, Captain.
Ha-ha. There are an endless number of things to worry about when giving someone a gift. But I suppose that's part of the fun.

5

O-oh dear...
Ah, hello, (Captain). Do you have business in the kitchens as well?
Oh, I came hoping make some tea to accompany my gift for you.
The other crew members have beaten me here, though, busy cooking and baking for today.
It's almost like walking into a warzone. I think I'd be better off giving up on that tea.
I do hope that's all right... Do you mind taking these treats without a drink?
I bought them at a well-liked confectionary. Not that these could compare to everyone else's heartfelt homemade treats, but...
I hope you can enjoy them all the same.

Trick or Treat Cutscenes

1

Happy Halloween! You're not getting dressed up, Captain?
Oh, me? Well, I'm always kind of going as a samurai... That was a joke.

2

Since Halloween comes only once a year, I told Sara to try playing a trick on someone.
But she seemed troubled by it. I guess she's too shy at heart to be playing tricks on others.
(Captain), do you have any tricks in mind that could include Sara?
I think she'd feel more at ease with you and Lyria around.
I'll take the brunt of any trick you have as long as it makes Sara smile, (Captain).

3

Yawn... Ah, hello, Captain. I suppose you are heading out to retrieve candy?
Hm? I look tired? I apologize for my uncomely appearance. In truth, I was helping in the kitchen.
Halloween is a time for pumpkin, is it not? And thusly, I was cutting a large amount of it.
Even a man such as myself would tire after taking on a mountain of squash.
But as long as this brings smiles to the faces of children, then I am satisfied.

4

Water... Water!
Jin dashes up to (Captain), who quickly pours him some water.
Thank you!
Gulp, gulp... Ahhh!
What a relief... I apologize for causing a scene, Captain.
I never would have expected Volenna to play a trick on me. I played right into her hands.
It looked delicious, but... Well, I'd rather not think about it.
Hm? What's that, Captain? I should return the favor?
Ha-ha! That might be the appropriate response, considering it's Halloween.
Perhaps I'll come up with a little trick of my own!

5

All right, be careful out there. Sara, Graphos, Branwen! Happy Halloween!
Hm? Oh, (Captain). I apologize for not noticing you there. Happy Halloween!
Yes, I just saw Sara off. She said she wanted to take Graphos and Branwen into town.
I am most glad to see Sara and the others enjoying themselves so much.
However, I made the grave mistake of failing to notice your presence, (Captain). Haha, allow me to make it up to you!
Well then. Would you like to partake in a trick or a treat?
If it's a treat that you want, then I have plenty in store for you. And if you should choose a trick... I'll take anything you prepare for me head-on!

Happy Holidays Cutscenes
# Link Text
1

Happy holidays! It really warms my heart to see all the kids running around so happy.
May you have a most wonderful evening, (Captain)!

2

I wish you happy holidays, (Captain)!
Tis the season for friends to gather and enjoy each other's company.
When I roamed the skies alone, I was so emotionally distant from everyone else.
So the opportunity to spend the holidays with close friends is a true blessing for me.
Everything should be experienced once—even loneliness. Of course I can only say that because I've moved past it.

3

Impersonating Santa Claus and passing out presents to children—that is the reason for the season.
And speaking of, I've just come back from fetching a present to put on Sara's pillow.
But entering the bedroom of a sleeping girl seems quite ungentlemanly.
What should I do? Perhaps I shall enlist the help of Volenna. Mmm...

4

Excuse me, Captain, could I trouble you for a moment of your time?
Thank you. You see, I've been trying to decide on a holiday gift for Sara.
I've been to toy stores, general stores, and clothing shops, but I'm not sure what she would like...
I'm at an utter loss, and now the day is already upon us. How disgraceful...
Volenna is busy preparing dinner in the kitchen, so I can't ask for her advice...
Would you perhaps be willing to accompany me on my shopping expedition?
You have my deepest gratitude. With your assistance, I'm sure I'll be able to figure something out!
And I'll have time to find something for you as well!
Oh...
That was supposed to be a secret... What a blunder...
Well, the surprise may be ruined, but please let me know if you see anything that catches your eye.
I've set aside funds just for this occasion!

5

What's this? Santa Claus is almost here, and you're still awake, (Captain)?
I was drinking with Eugen and the others, but now I'm sobering up here on the deck.
I'm not a lightweight by any means, but there's just no keeping up with them.
But that's enough of that. It wouldn't be good for you to become interested in drinking too.
Drinking can be fun, of course, but there are plenty of downsides to be careful of.
You're free to find out only after you've become an adult.
Not that someone like me should be the one telling you that.
Let's head back inside. We don't want to catch a cold right before we head into the new year, after all!

Crushing Weight of Reality

When saved by Eahta, Jin realizes this gentleman is the very same one who saved him when he was but a child. The brief discourse between the two reveals that Eahta fought merely for the sake of a good challenge, not to save anyone. This revelation makes Jin question his path in life.

The crew comes to a town to exterminate monsters as part of an assignment.
An alpha monster and its pack are growing more violent by the day, and have recently been seen closer and closer to town.
Immediately upon arrival, the crew runs into a horde of monsters ravaging the fields.
Jin: Hraah!
Monster: Gwooogh...
Jin: Whew... That should be the last of them.
  1. Tuckered out yet?
  2. Splendid work.

Choose: Tuckered out yet?
Jin: Not in the least. I will never tire of helping people.

Choose: Splendid work.
Jin: Haha, it humbles me to receive such praise from you, (Captain).
Continue 1
Any version of Jin is a crew member

Jin wields his blade to do good, believing wholeheartedly that helping others is the true path of righteousness.
Ever since a master swordsman saved him from a monster attack at a young age, Jin has roamed the land, aspiring to follow that swordsman's example.
Jin's impetus for joining the crew was the successful resolution of an incident revolving around a primal beast on a certain island.
Vyrn: I sure wasn't expectin' the welcome wagon to be a bunch of monsters though.
Lyria: They did say the monsters were becoming more savage, but I had no idea they were coming this close to town...
Jin: Half of these fields are ruined. If we leave the situation untended, the people living here could be targeted next...
Jin: Something's coming!
Alpha Monster: Groaar!
Jin braces for a battle against a monster considerably fiercer than the ones before.
Jin: The uncanny presence it gives off suggests it may be the leader of them all.
Jin: This will not be an easy battle. We must get into forma—
Alpha Monster: Gwaaargh!
Jin: Rgh!
Lyria: Jin!
Jin: Do not fret!
Jin: Lyria, Vyrn, I suggest you make a run for it! (Captain) and I shall deal with the monster!
Jin: Hyaah!
Alpha Monster: Gyaargh!
Jin: Urgh, its flesh is as solid as a rock! My blade will not pierce through!
Alpha Monster: Gwooaar!
Jin: Urgh! Oh no...
The alpha monster pounces on Jin as he loses balance. (Captain) leaps to his aid.
However...
Alpha Monster: Gaoorgh!
???: ...
Jin: ...
Jin lies speechless before the large figure who felled the monster with a single slash.
Vyrn: Jin! You okay?
Jin: Yes... 'Tis but a scratch.
While the others are breathing a sigh of relief, Jin's eyes are fixed on the broad back of his savior.
He recalls the incident from his childhood.
Jin: (What an impressive display of swordsmanship that was... And that unmistakable silhouette... )
Jin: (There's no question... This is the very same man!)
Jin: Sir! If you would be so kind as to tell me your name!
???: ...?
Jin: Ah, my apologies! I should be thanking you first!
Jin: My name is Jin. And I am most grateful to you for your assistance back there.
Jin: That's twice you've saved my life.
???: Twice?
Jin: When I was but a child, a gentleman saved me from a similar plight...
Jin: And after seeing your handiwork with a sword just now...
Jin: I am convinced you are that very same gentleman.
???: ...
Jin: Since the day you delivered me from the clutches of that monster, I've vowed to use my blade to save people, as you do.
Jin: My admiration for you has made me what I am today. Although there were times when I wavered...
Jin: Meeting (Captain) set me back on the right track.
Jin: I've wanted to thank you for the longest time. You will forever be my savior... and the ideal that I aspire to.
Jin pours out the zealous thoughts that have come to define his very being all these years.
The swordsman, however, seems nonplussed.
Eahta is a crew member

???: Sensing great strength, I descended from the ship looking for a decent battle... But perhaps I expected too much.
Jin: A decent battle?
Did you not fight to protect the townspeople?
???: One's perception of morality, and by extension the larger world, is often clouded by a predisposed view of all matters in life.
???: Perhaps it is time to reevaluate what it is you truly seek.
Jin: What... does that even mean?
???: ...
Without so much as a response, he quietly returns to the Grandcypher.

Eahta not in crew

???: Hearing rumors of this so-called alpha monster, I came here looking for a decent battle... But perhaps I expected too much.
Jin: A decent battle?
Did you not fight to protect the townspeople?

Continue 2
Jin: ...
Lyria: Ahaha... What an Eahta thing to say...
Jin: So his name is Eahta?
Vyrn: Yep. If you ask me, Katana Grandpa could've at least introduced himself.
Vyrn: I wouldn't sweat it though! He's not exactly the most sociable person, but I can tell he wasn't angry either.
Lyria: Eahta travels around in search of strong opponents to do battle with to improve himself.
Vyrn: That's probably why he came out—not to save our hides, but 'cause he figured the monster would be a real toughie.
Vyrn: You know he's the real deal when he's so focused on his training that he forgets his own name!
Lyria: Eahta's not a bad person though; he can be really kind! He just gets misunderstood a lot since he doesn't talk much...
Jin: I see...
Jin: ...
Having completed the assignment, Jin accompanies the others back to the Grandcypher, feeling dismayed the whole while.
Jin stands on the Grandcypher's deck that night, reflecting on his two encounters with Eahta.
Jin: ...
Jin: (I've lived my life trying to be like that gentleman, helping people wherever and whenever I can...)
Jin: (But it was never his intention to save me, he said...)
Jin: (I just happened to be saved, while he sought out what he wanted...)
Jin: (The sublimity I saw in him... was a fabrication of my own creation... A phantom...)
Jin: (Was the path that I had found for myself nothing more than a pipe dream?)
Jin feels as if he's just had the rug pulled out from under him, and has been chasing a phantom for far too long.
Unsure of where to take his life next, Jin now faces a moral quandary.

Unwavering Righteousness

Seeing that Jin could use a change of pace, Sara and Volenna invite him to assist with dinner preparations. Jin accepts and later divulges to Volenna the moral dilemma that plagues him, but she decides not to pry too deeply into it.

Jin: Haah! Eeyaah! Hi-yah!
Days after the encounter with Eahta, Jin continues to wrestle with the moral dilemma that concerns his very being.
He swings his blade without surcease to clear his mind of any distractions, unaware of the eyes watching him.
Sara: ...
Sara: Jin hasn't taken a break for so long now. I wonder if he'll be okay...
Graphos: ...
Sara: You're worried too, huh?
No version of Sara in crew

Sara was a young priestess tasked with saving a desert town from calamity.
A chance encounter with (Captain) and company saved her from this burden, allowing her to join the crew and go on numerous adventures.
Volenna: Sara, there you are.
No version of Volenna in crew

Volenna has served as Sara's personal bodyguard ever since their time together in a certain desert town.
With Sara liberated from her impending fate, Volenna has been keen on showing her the outside world.
Volenna: You're looking somewhat listless, Sara... Is everything all right?
Sara: Oh, it's not me. I'm worried about Jin...
Volenna: Jin? Come to think of it, he has been brooding over something these past few days.
Sara: (Captain) said Jin finally got to meet the person he's looked up to all this time, so I don't understand why he's so gloomy.
Volenna: It does seem strange...
Sara: Jin's always been good to me and helped me out so much over the years...
Sara: That's why I wanted to help out with whatever he might be struggling with, but I couldn't even call out to him...
Sara: Just the thought that saying the wrong thing might cause him more distress makes me stop in my tracks...
Volenna: You're such a kind girl, Sara.
Sara: Volenna...
Volenna: The way I see it, Jin's so absorbed in thought that he can't see the forest for the trees.
Volenna: If it's just breaking him out of the vicious cycle of negative thought he's trapped in, there might be something we can do.
Sara: That makes sense! It's hard to see the good in a situation if your mind is filled with gloomy thoughts.
Sara: Hm, how do we get him to change course...
Sara: Ah! Volenna, what do you think of this idea?
Volenna readily agrees to her suggestion.
Volenna: Sounds like it could work.
Sara: Great! Let's go invite Jin then.
Jin: ...
Jin: (As much as I swing my blade, no answer comes to me...)
Jin: (Nay... Does an answer even exist? Could I have been wrong all this time?)
Sara: Jin!
Jin: ...!
Sara... and Volenna. Is something the matter?
Sara: It's Volenna's turn to put dinner on the table tonight, and we could really use some help...
Volenna: Sara's already offered her aid, but we could use someone strong for the more physical tasks. Can we count on your help?
Jin: A meal for the crew?
Sara: Um... It's okay if you're busy...
Jin: Not at all! I, too, shall take part in today's dinner preparations. Please, allow me to be of assistance.
Sara: Thank you, Jin! Graphos, we'll need your help too bringing out the large pots!
Graphos: ...!
Jin begins to follow Sara and Graphos as they dash off to the Grandcypher's kitchen. Volenna calls him back.
Volenna: With how much food there is to make, your help's appreciated, Jin.
Jin: Why, it's nothing at all. I would hardly even call this "help"...
Volenna: Eahta, was it? You met your savior, yet you put on a dour face.
Jin: Er, well...
Volenna: If you have any complaints, I'd be more than glad to hear you out. Especially with how much you've helped Sara and I.
Jin: I can't help but wonder if I've been more of a bother than anything else.
Volenna: Huh?
Jin: I've lived my life helping others, believing it to be the path of righteousness.
Jin: But the ideal I saw in Eahta was but an illusion of my own creation.
Jin: Perhaps my accomplishments, too, are mere phantoms born of my own self-importance.
Volenna: I see...
Volenna: Well, you're free to continue pondering the matter, just as long as you don't fillet your fingers.
Volenna: Surely you've learned more than fishing from Kaz. Now's your chance to show us your culinary skills.
Jin: Very well. Sara is waiting; let us hurry.

Unwavering Righteousness: Scene 2

Volenna tries to cook a braised meat dish she tasted during their travels. When she talks about how it's okay to stray from the original recipe as long as the resulting dish is just as delicious, Jin comes to an epiphany, realizing that he can apply his own reasoning for wanting to save people.

Jin enters the kitchen to assist Volenna and Sara with dinner preparation.
Sara: Hm, these veggies taste less bitter if you cut them with the grain...
Volenna: Sara, can you keep an eye on this grill?
Sara: Sure! I just have to make sure the meat doesn't get burnt and dried out, right?
Volenna: Mm-hm, that's right.
Jin watches in deep admiration.
Jin: My, Sara's culinary skills have improved by a considerable margin.
Sara: Teehee, you think so? I'm sure it's because Volenna's such a great teacher!
Volenna: There's no need to be so humble, Sara. You're simply reaping the benefits of all your hard work and natural smarts.
Sara: Ehehe...
Jin: ...
Sara: But it's thanks to everyone that I've been able to learn how to cook, and apply my skills to make dinner like this.
Sara: (Captain), Jin, Volenna, you've all shown me a whole new world...
Sara: I'm sooo grateful for that. I can't thank you enough...
Jin: ...
Jin: But I've hardly lifted a finger.
Jin: I don't mean to repeat what Volenna said, but you are simply harvesting the fruits of your labor, Sara.
Volenna: ...
Though Volenna realizes that Jin is still very much absorbed in thought, she decides not to broach the subject as she continues to give culinary orders.
Volenna: Hm, this should be enough. Now to adjust the temperature...
After pouring oil into the pot, Volenna slowly adds heat.
Jin: Isn't that fire a bit weak for fried food?
Volenna: We'll be boiling the food actually.
Jin: Boiling? With oil? That's new to me. Is it a common cooking method on Sable Island?
Volenna: Truth be told, I first learned of the method at a restaurant after leaving the island. The food they served there was incredible.
Volenna: It's been an ongoing process of trial and error as I try to recreate that flavor...
They proceed with the other dishes while paying careful attention to the pot of meat.
Volenna: There, the braised meat is also done. Sara, Jin, won't you give it a try?
Jin: Let's see here... Nom...
Sara: Aah...
Sara: Wow, it's delicious!
Jin: How splendid! The spices you used are most flavorful, Volenna!
Volenna: Yeah? I guess I got the recipe correct this time.
Jin: "Correct," you say...
Volenna: Skyfarers tend to work up a sweat with all the moving around they do. So I tried using more salt and stronger spices than they did at that restaurant.
Volenna: In other words, the recipe I have here isn't an exact imitation.
Sara: You know, I think this'd taste even better with some bread, Volenna!
Sara: If it's already this good, there's no need for it to be exactly like that restaurant's cooking. Don't you agree, Jin!
Jin: Indeed. I do not know of the restaurant in question, but it would not surprise me if Volenna's cooking proves better than theirs.
Volenna: Ahem, you might be talking me up too much...
Volenna: Though I suppose you could say that food is "proper" as long as it's delicious.
Volenna: And that's regardless of whatever ingredients or culinary method you decide to use.
Jin: As you put it, Volenna, any food can be considered proper as long as it is delicious.
Jin: The cactus dishes I had on Sable Island were quite the delight as well.
Sara: Haha, did you know we make syrup from cacti back home, Jin?
Jin: Truly? That is news to me. I always did find the sweetness of Volenna's tea to be different from that of honey.
Volenna: So you took a liking to cactus pads, I see. Most people from outside of Sable actually dislike the stuff.
Volenna: I guess you could say food that you find to be proper could be deemed improper, or even detestable, by someone else.
Jin: Indeed, there is boundless subjectivity when it comes to taste.
Volenna: The bonito fillet you once served me was so good...
Volenna: But I wouldn't be surprised if there were people who find it distasteful.
Sara: Haha. We were really surprised that fish could be eaten half raw.
Jin: Outside of Auguste, people are generally told from a young age to make sure to cook fish before eating it.
Sara: But bonito fillet is so yummy!
Sara: Jin... Um, thank you for that time too!
Jin: I'm glad it was to your liking! I suppose everything I've learned about fishing from Kaz has paid off.
Jin: After all, pleasing you two brings me much joy as well.
Volenna: What a strange fellow you are. It's not often you find someone who takes so much delight in exerting themselves for others.
Jin: Nothing brings me more bliss than to see my efforts bringing smiles to people. Indeed, that is—
Jin: ...!
Jin: (Indeed... How did I overlook such a simple fact.)
Jin: (Righteousness is only half of the reason for my helping people...)
Jin: (The other half is my desire to see their smiles.)
Jin: (The profound experience I had as a child may have served as the driving force for my path in life...)
Jin: (But it no longer matters whether Eahta's goal was truly ever to help others!)
Jin: (The joy I derive is my own, as is my choice to serve others!)
Jin: Volenna.
Volenna: Yes?
Jin: I've already said this, but it bears repeating—the braised meat is delicious.
Jin: Irrespective of the original recipe, your recipe is surely just as delicious and proper.
Jin: That is the conclusion I've arrived at.
Volenna: I can agree with that.
Jin: ...
Jin: Haha. You were right all along, Volenna.
Volenna: Heh...
Graphos: ...!
Sara: Ah! Thanks, Graphos! Volenna, the dishes in the oven are ready!
Volenna: Okay, let's get it all onto the tables now. After all, food is better served hot. Give me a hand here, Sara, Jin.
Sara: Okay! Jin, I'll take these dishes.
Jin: Hm? What's the matter, Sara? Is there something on my face?
Sara: Oh, it's nothing! Nothing at all...
Sara: (Jin's finally feeling better... It worked!)
Jin enjoys a pleasant time with the crew at the dinner table.
After completing his meal, he disembarks from the Grandcypher and makes his way to a certain place.

Unwavering Righteousness: Scene 3

Jin visits Eahta for a duel when the latter is training on a hilltop. After the match, Eahta acknowledges the righteous path that Jin treads, giving Jin the resolve to continue on the course he's always believed in.

Having heard that Eahta is training on a hilltop outside of town, Jin pays him a visit.
Jin watches the broad back of the man he once idealized.
Jin: If I may intrude!
Eahta: What brings you here?
Jin: I wish for a duel!
Eahta: A duel, you say?
Jin: ...
Eahta: ...
Eahta: The look in your eyes suggests you've found your path in life.
Eahta: Fascinating!
Without another word, Eahta readies his katanas, looking squarely at Jin.
Eahta: Show me swordsmanship as unclouded as your gaze!
Jin: ...!
Your praise is most humbling!
Following Eahta's example, Jin tightens his grip on his katana.
Jin: En...
Eahta: Garde...
Jin & Eahta: To battle!
Jin: Hraah!
Eahta: Mrgh!
Jin: Hi-yaaah!
Eahta: Ngh!
A fierce dance of blades ensues between the two samurai, with neither one granting the other any quarter.
They appear to be at a stalemate at first, but the difference in power slowly becomes evident.
Jin: Huff... Huff...
Eahta: ...
Jin: (He's not even the slightest bit out of breath... He's more formidable than I imagined...)
Jin: (But I won't let it end here!)
As if ready to unleash one final, devastating attack, Jin steadies his breathing.
Sensing his intentions, Eahta quietly resumes a defensive stance.
Eahta: ...
Jin: (Eahta... Thank you!)
Jin: Hraaaagh!
A searing clash of blades is followed by a resounding silence.
Jin: ...
Eahta: ...
Eahta: I see much potential in you, Jin.
Eahta: I cede this match to you.
Jin: Eahta, I am most grateful...
Jin: The righteousness I once saw in you was but a phantom of my own making.
Jin: I even suspected that the path I tread as a result of your influence was also a phantom...
Jin: But there is no doubt that I am who I am today because of the choices I've made in my life.
Jin: Meeting Sara, Volenna, and the crew, and all my experiences with them couldn't be more real.
Jin: It is with my own two feet that I've reached the ideal I sought for so long.
Jin: Although it may differ from your ideal, what matters is what I consider to be righteous.
Eahta: Verily. Our world being the kaleidoscope it is, there is no one definition of justice.
Eahta: Time flows. Events transpire. There is no way to control all of it.
Eahta: That is why we must all follow our hearts and walk our own paths. It is all too easy to forget that we, alone, are responsible for our own fates.
Jin: It took me far too long to realize that... But now that I've seen the light, I vow to no longer stray from my own brand of righteousness.
Jin: Perhaps I may be able to resume my duel with you one day, Eahta—on equal footing next time.
Eahta: Hehe...
Eahta: Bwahahaha! Lovely!
Eahta, his stern expression all but gone, breaks into peals of laughter at Jin's words.
Jin: Eahta...
Jin: Heh... Haha...
Jin: Hahahahaha!
Eahta's laughter proves contagious, as Jin, too, loosens up and joins in on the merriment.
Jin: (Eahta, (Captain), Volenna, Sara...)
Jin: (I wouldn't amount to much today if any of them were missing from my life...)
Jin: (Though I've pledged to save people, I was the one being saved all this time...)
Jin: (I shall forever be grateful!)
Finally having the gentleman he had idolized for so long acknowledge his ideals, Jin sees his future in a new, brighter light.
With so many fateful encounters and experiences to draw from, he is now more determined than ever to continue treading his very own path of righteousness.
