No Rain, No Rainbow - Opening

Unable to sleep one night, Phoebe stumbles across the Grandcypher's subgalley, where Ladiva is busily serving up drinks and light meals to the crew's night owls. Phoebe longs to help Ladiva out but is too shy to offer and ends up fleeing along with Morphe.

The Grandcypher lies quiet under the cloak of night. All but those on watch are fast asleep. Or almost all.
Morphe: Zzz...
A small, solitary figure roams the dim corridors of the ship.
Phoebe: ...
Phoebe: (I felt bad to wake Morphe just because I couldn't sleep...)
Phoebe: (So I thought I'd take a walk by myself, but...)
Since most of the crew is sleeping, only half the lamps along the walls are lit. Phoebe shivers as she gazes down the hall.
Phoebe: (It's so dark...)
Phoebe: (And I'm all... alone...)
She slows to a halt, assailed by memories.
Morphe and Phoebe (Event) is a crew member

During the War, Phoebe—then known as the primal beast Oneiros—was gravely wounded and abandoned by her Astral master.
After centuries of solitude, (Captain) and the crew found her and gave her a place to belong.
Her fellow crew members are so precious to her that the trouble she caused them before they became friends weighs heavily on her conscience.

The dream reader Phoebe and her twin brother, Morphe, met the crew under unfortunate circumstances.
Phoebe feared Lyria's influence over primal beasts and set out to neutralize that threat.
(Captain) and the others forgave her aggressions, however, and welcomed the twins aboard.
Grateful at last to have a place she can call home, Phoebe wants more than anything to be of use.
But the guilt of having hurt them before is ever present in her mind.

Phoebe: I...
Phoebe: (Hmm? I hear voices...)
Phoebe lifts her head and follows the sound.
Phoebe: Oh... Someone has a light on...
She turns a corner, then another. A door stands open at the end of the corridor, splashing golden light across the floor.
Sig: Mm. This wine is not bad at all. Nice bite. What I wouldn't give for some sashimi to go with it.
Ladiva: It's a shame we can't get sashimi-grade fish anywhere but Auguste. Would you settle for steamed?
Sig: That'd be great! Before I run out of wine, please!
Ladiva: Coming right up! I think I have just the right seasoning...
Ladiva: Oh, Phoebe! Good evening!
Phoebe: ...!
Sig: What an adorable little customer. Come on in.
Phoebe: Uh-um, I...
Ladiva: Aw, having trouble sleeping? Want me to put some hot milk on for you?
Phoebe: Y-yes, please...
Phoebe accepts the invitation before she can think better of it. She drifts into the kitchen and takes a seat in the corner.
Ladiva: Heeere you are! Careful now—it's hot.
Phoebe: Thank you...
Phoebe: It's really good... Warm and sweet...
Any version of Volenna is a crew member

Ladiva: I flavored it with some cactus syrup Volenna gave me.
Ladiva: I'm glad you like it! Relax and enjoy!
Phoebe: O-okay...
Over the rim of her cup, Phoebe watches as a number of different crew members come and go through the subgalley.
Phoebe: (Ladiva seems really busy...)
Phoebe: (Maybe I could help out... I don't know how to cook... But maybe I could just carry people's orders out?)
Morphe: Excuse me...
Ladiva: Well hello, Morphe! Come right on in! Why don't you sit down next to Phoebe?
Morphe: Oh! So this is where she went!
Morphe: I woke up and found you gone, so I came looking, Phoebe.
Phoebe: You didn't have to...
Morphe: Well... I was worried...
Phoebe: ...
Ladiva: Would you like some hot milk too, Morphe?
Morphe: Ooh, yes, please! Thank you!
Marquiares is a crew member

Marquiares: Hello, Ladiva, how are you this fine night?
Ladiva: Why, Marquiares, lovely to see you! Right this way!
As Phoebe and Morphe sip their drinks, even more crew members pop in.
Morphe: I didn't realize things were this busy in the middle of the night!
Ladiva: Hehe. I started out making midnight meals for the people on watch...
Ladiva: But before I knew it, this turned into a hotspot for all the night owls on the crew.
Sig: It's your fault for making this such a pleasant place to pass the time.
Ladiva: You flatterer. Don't overdo it on the wine, will you?
Sig: I promise, I promise. I won't be any worse for wear come morning. So just pour me another finger?
Ladiva: All right then, just a bit. Tell you what. I'll let you sample a special bottle I've been saving.
Any version of Sevilbarra is a crew member

Ladiva: Sevilbarra said it was one of his favorites. I'm sure you'll like it.
Sig: You have my attention! I promise to savor every drop.
Ladiva pours Sig's drink, then bustles around serving other crew members.
Phoebe: (She has so much to do... I'm sure she could use some help... But... maybe I'd just be a nuisance...)
Morphe: Phoebe? If you want to help out, I'll join you.
Phoebe: Huh? H-how did you—
Morphe: You haven't taken your eyes off Ladiva this whole time. I thought that might be what you were thinking.
Phoebe: W-well...
Phoebe: Nnh...
Ladiva: What's on your mind, Phoebe? If you want another cup, I can have one ready in a jiffy.
Phoebe: N-no, I'm fine! The milk was delicious, thank you so much! Let's go, Morphe!
Morphe: Whuh—huh? Phoebe!
Unable to muster the courage to make her offer, Phoebe grabs Morphe's sleeve and hauls him out of the kitchen.
Ladiva: Come back any time! Good niiight!
Morphe: G-good night!
Hungry crew members call out to Ladiva, and she turns away from the door.
It will take a little while for Phoebe to venture once more into this nighttime social hub.

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 1: Kindly Red - Episode 1

During spring cleaning, the Grandcypher crew discovers a subgalley and restores it to working order. That night, Ladiva uses it to make a midnight snack for (Captain), Lyria, and Jamil. Word of her delicious cooking spreads throughout the crew, and Ladiva ends up in charge of the subgalley.

Shortly before Phoebe stumbled upon the Grandcypher's nightlife...
(Captain) and the crew were taking advantage of a lull between missions to give the ship a thorough spring cleaning.
Vyrn: Blech, this room is stacked full of crates, and you could swim through all the dust...
Lyria: I wonder what's in the boxes...
Lyria: Hyachoo!
Ladiva: Oh dear! Here, Lyria, you can use this cloth to make a mask... like so...
Lyria: Thank you, Ladiva!
Ladiva: You're very welcome! You have to take care of your nose and throat. Captain, I have one for you too.
No version of Ladiva in crew

The woman tending so assiduously to (Captain) and the others' needs is named Ladiva, former star of the casino liner's duel circuit.
Defending the crew against imperial soldiers attracted her some unwanted Erste attention. To avoid causing the casino liner any trouble, she quit her job there.
Since then she has been a staunch ally on the crew's adventures, and her many crew members have given her ample opportunity to exercise her nurturing instincts.
Ladiva: Well, we need these boxes out of the way first if we're going to clean up in here.
Vyrn: I think we left them here the last time we did a spring cleaning 'cause we were worried about all the dust.
(Captain) remembers that these crates were actually here when they began their adventures aboard the Grandcypher.
Ladiva: They've been here that long? We really have our work cut out for us!
Lyria: You're right! What good is spring cleaning if we don't give it our all?
(Captain) and the others move out the crates and clean away all the dust.
Keehar: Well, well! So you conquered this mountain of dust, did you? You must be exhausted!
Vyrn: Hey, Keehar! Thanks for helping out with the spring cleaning!
Keehar not in crew

Keehar once worked as a guardsman for a legendary order of minstrels.
He left that life behind to raise the orphaned granddaughter of an old friend. Now that she is a full-fledged adult, Keehar has returned to adventuring.
His tales of past adventure may be liberally embellished, but his long experience is of great value to the crew.
Keehar: Ha-ha! A mere trifle! This ship is our home! We owe it to ourselves to keep it spotless!
Keehar: But how about this? I didn't expect to find the subgalley tucked away here.
Lyria: Sub... galley?
Keehar: Yes. Ships with as large a crew capacity as the Grandcypher generally have a second kitchen in addition to the main one.
Ladiva: Oh... So that's why there's a water tank and a cooking stove.
Ladiva: Looks like the enchanted components were removed for storage. I wonder if they're in one of these crates.
Vyrn: Let's go crate-diving, (Captain)! The crew's gotten so big lately, we could use another galley!
The crew cracks open the crates one by one, searching for the all-important fire-starter components.
With all hands pitching in, it only takes them a day to get the subgalley in working order.
Vyrn: Zzz...
Jamil: Master? I rarely see you up at this late an hour. Is something wrong?
No version of Jamil in crew

Jamil is a member of the Urzhuwan Clan, assassins who once served the Erste royal family. When they opposed the rise of the empire, they were exiled, and Jamil is now one of the few surviving members.
Injured while attempting to exact revenge for his clan, Jamil was saved by (Captain) and Lyria.
In gratitude, he has sworn loyalty to them both.
Lyria: Mmph... Huh? What're you doing in my room, (Captain)? Oh, Jamil, you're here too?
Jamil: Well...
Jamil: We heard a noise... Was that your stomach growling just now?
Lyria: Ehehe, I'm a little hungry. Want to sneak into the kitchen?
Jamil: No, please wait here and allow me to fetch you a selection of—
Lyria: No, no! The sneaking is the fun part! Right, (Captain)?
Jamil tilts his head quizzically as the two of them share a conspiratorial laugh.
Jamil: I... think I see? At least allow me to accompany you then.
The trio head toward the galley and run into Ladiva, who has pulled the night watch.
Ladiva: Why, whatever has all three of you out of bed so late?
Lyria: Ah! Umm...
Ladiva: Tsk, tsk! Were you hoping to sneak a midnight snack?
Lyria: Ehehe... Well...
Ladiva: Come on now... You know you shouldn't be doing that.
Elmelaura is a crew member

Ladiva: Elmelaura is on cooking duty tomorrow. What's she supposed to do if midnight snackers eat all her ingredients?
Jamil: Please forgive my thoughtlessness.
Ladiva: Well, as punishment, you can help me prepare a snack for everyone who's on watch tonight!
Ladiva: All three of you. Okay?
Lyria: Yaaay!
Um, I mean... Of course we'll help!
Jamil: I await your command.
Ladiva: Haha, good. Let's see what our subgalley can do!
Lyria: Oh, that's right! Let's go get some ingredients from the main galley!
Redluck is a crew member

Ladiva: Redluck was on cooking duty today, and he said there was some leftover ham.
Ladiva: I have some fresh-baked bread, so maybe I'll make hot sandwiches...
Jamil: If they need to be tested for safety, I volunteer.
Ladiva: You're so helpful! You can tell me if any of the ingredients have gone off.
The three volunteers sit down along with the night watch and eat their fill of Ladiva's midnight snack.
Vyrn: No fair! If you're gonna do something fun, wake me up too!
Jamil: My apologies, Vyrn. You were sleeping so soundly...
Lyria: We'll make sure to take you along next time, Vyrn! Mmm, it was so good! The bite of the mustard mixed in with the butter...
Vyrn: Lyriaaa! You're making me hungry! Quit it!
Ladiva: Hehe, I'll make you one next time, Vyrn.
Vyrn: Really? You promise? Don't get my hopes up now.
Ladiva: Of course, no problem at all. You go ahead and get those hopes all the way up.
Vyrn: Yeaaah!
Vyrn: Hehehe!
Suframare: Haha, you're in high spirits today, Vyrn.
No version of Suframare in crew

This is Suframare, a wandering tutor who lives to teach people to use magic.
Worried for Vyrn, who was unable to advance under her instruction, she joined the crew in order to continue his magical education.
Vyrn: Hehe! Ladiva promised to make me a hot sandwich sometime soon!
Suframare: I see. Ladiva is a talented cook, isn't she? I'm sure it will be delicious!
Vyrn: You bet! If you're free, you should come too, Teach!
Suframare: Thank you for the invitation, Vyrn. Let me know and I'll be glad to come along.
Vyrn is so effusive about the snack Ladiva has promised him that word spreads throughout the crew.
Cain: Hey, Ladiva. Think you could see your way to making me a snack tonight?
Ladiva: I'd be glad to, if you like.
The demand for late-night meals grows so great that she finds herself using the subgalley nightly.
Eventually it seems time to make things official.
Ladiva: You want to put me in charge of the subgalley?
Vyrn: Yeah! You've been making midnight snacks for a while now.
Vyrn: We've been putting in more supplies for the subgalley, and it's about time we picked somebody to keep track of it all.
Ladiva: I suppose someone does need to keep accounts. It's tough for whoever's on cooking duty to answer individual requests for ingredients.
Ladiva: Do you really think I'm the right one for the job though? All I'm really good at is home cooking.
Any version of Lowain is a crew member

Ladiva: Lowain's in charge of the kitchen, isn't he?
Ladiva: When it comes to cooking and managing supplies, he's a professional. I don't want to step on his toes and make a nuisance of myself.
Vyrn: He's got his hands full with the responsibilities he's already got.
Vyrn: So (Captain) figured it'd be better to leave the subgalley to someone else.
Ladiva: True... Feeding so many people is tough—on top of cooking, you have to maintain facilities and manage supplies.
Ladiva: We wouldn't want to overburden Lowain and have him collapse on us.
Lyria: Right. And besides...
Lyria: Everyone's been saying how comforting the taste of your home cooking is, Ladiva!
Lyria: So please say you'll do it!
Ladiva: Oh, Lyria, I'm honored! If it'll help all of you, then I'll gladly take the job.
Ladiva: I always have plenty of the most important ingredient—love!
Vyrn: Hehe! The hungry night owls are counting on ya!
And so Ladiva finds herself in charge of the Grandcypher's subgalley.

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 1: Kindly Red - Episode 2

Syr urges Mary to write to Galthazar. After agonizing all day over what to write, she consults Ladiva, whose advice finally gets Mary's pen moving.

Syr: Maaaryyy!
Mary: Hm? What's up, Syr?
Syr (Event) not in crew

Mary and Syr are orphans raised by an old man named Galthazar on Sidheros Island.
Under the control of a primal beast, Galthazar instructed his foster children to steal, but he was later freed from its influence.
Forgiven for his crimes due to the circumstances, Galthazar was hospitalized to recover from the effects of the primal beast's powers.
Out of gratitude to the crew for saving their adoptive father, Mary and Syr joined them on their journey.
Syr: I wrote a letter to Gramps and Altos!
Mary: Mm... You always were good at the whole letter-writing thing.
Syr: Hehe... Once I started writing, there was just so much...
Syr: That I'd already said! I didn't end up writing much this time, so there's plenty of space left in the envelope.
Syr: Why don't you write a few pages, and we can send them together?
Mary: Huh? Me?
Syr: Yeah! I'm sure they'll be glad to hear from you!
Mary (SR) is a crew member

Syr: You haven't been in touch since you sent that holiday card, right?
Mary: Well... I guess...
Syr: I bought some really nice stationery you can use. Write them a good, long letter, okay?
Mary: Hey, wait! Come back here!
Mary: Tch... Foisting this off on me...
Mary: A good, long letter, huh?
Mary: Sigh...
A blank page of beautiful stationery stares accusingly up at Mary from her desk. Her mind is a matching blank.
Mary: Yeesh, where did the time go?
Mary: I'm worn out just from thinking about this for so long.
Mary: Maybe I'll drop by Ladiva's...
Ladiva: Mary, how nice to see you!
Mary: Hello. I see you got yourself a sign. Ra... Raduga?
Ladiva: Yes, it means "rainbow."
Ladiva: And isn't the craftsmanship lovely? Walder made it for me.
Mary: Oh, I see!
Ladiva: I was inspired by that fairy tale about the buried treasure at the end of the rainbow.
Ladiva: I don't know about treasure, but hopefully everyone will find something pretty good if they follow the rainbow here.
Mary: Haha, your cooking is definitely reward enough for the journey.
Ladiva: Well come on in, then. I'll try not to disappoint. Any requests?
Mary: Hm... I'm tired out from thinking all day. I could use something to perk me up.
Ladiva: You got it. How about this?
Mary: Ooh, what a pretty color. Is that pear?
Ladiva: Got it in one! It's a pear compote flavored with wine. There's nothing like sweets when you're tired!
Yurius is a crew member

Ladiva: Yurius shared some Levin red with me. The flavor and the bouquet are just exquisite.
Mary: Thank you!
Nom.
Mary: Mmm! This is delicious! And it smells so good—it's just irresistible!
Ladiva: Hehe. If you think you'll be staying up a little longer, I can put on some tea for you.
Mary: Ahh, Ladiva, you siren! How can I say no?
Naoise (Promo) is a crew member

Ladiva: Naoise recommended a really refreshing blend. It pairs perfectly with that compote.
In between bites of compote and sips of tea, Mary explains what's troubling her.
Mary: Y'see... I'm trying to write a letter to Galthazar... That's the old man who raised me.
Mary: Have I told you about him? He's the one who took me in when I was working in the mines.
Ladiva: Yes. If I recall, he's been resting up at a hospital.
Mary: That's right. One of my foster brothers the same age as me is there with him.
Ladiva: Keeping in touch with your family is a wonderful thing.
Mary: Family... Yeah, they're my family. Syr's like a little brother to me too. It was always pretty boisterous back home.
Mary: But there were times when I resented Gramps and Altos. We were poor, and we had to steal...
Ladiva: Oh...
Mary: They're both important to me. We are family.
Mary: But...
Mary: ...
Ladiva: ...
Would you like another cup?
Mary: Thanks...
Mary: I still don't know what I should write. What would you write, Ladiva?
Ladiva: Let me see...
  1. Maybe something about my friends?
  2. I might write about our recent missions.

Choose: Maybe something about my friends?
Ladiva: It might be fun to talk about all the friends you've made on the crew. There are so many interesting people aboard!
Mary: Haha, that's true. (Captain) can't seem to help picking up quirky strays.
Zaja is a crew member

Mary: Like Zaja, for example. He's a really good guy, but he seems kinda... unstable sometimes? Maybe more like all the time.
Mary: It feels like there's some new fuss every day, so there's certainly no shortage of news to tell!
Ladiva: Hehe... Never a dull moment on the Grandcypher. I like it that way. And it's all thanks to (Captain).
Mary: You're right!

Choose: I might write about our recent missions.
Ladiva: What about the missions you've been on recently? You probably have to keep some of it secret, but I'm sure there's material there.
Mary: (Captain) just doesn't know how to refuse a request, so we've had some pretty zany ones. That might make a good letter!
Any version of Karva is a crew member

Mary: Like a little while ago, Karva got me into a real sticky situation. I guess it was thrilling in a way, but...
Mary: There's a fine line between making your heart race and giving yourself a heart attack.
Ladiva: Sometimes I feel like I'm a character in a swashbuckling adventure story.
Mary: Hahaha, I know that feeling! Before I joined this crew, I never woulda even imagined living around knights.
Any version of Lancelot is a crew member, Any version of Vane is a crew member, Lancelot and Vane is a crew member, Any version of Siegfried is a crew member, Any version of Percival is a crew member

Mary: I still have nightmares sometimes, where they're actually here to arrest me.
Mary: Like, I find myself surrounded by the Order of the White Dragons, swords drawn.
Mary: I keep being surprised at how broad-minded (Captain) is when choosing crew members.
Ladiva: It's thanks to the captain that you and I get the chance to chat like this, Mary.
Ladiva: Being able to accept everyone as they are and bring us all together as a crew... It takes a special kind of person to do that.
Mary: Yeah... It's strange to remember how (Captain) was just a fledgling skyfarer when we first met.
Continue 1
Mary: Hehe, I've got some idea what to write now!
Mary: Instead of overthinking it, I can just tell Gramps what my everyday life is like.
Ladiva: That sounds just fine. It should read like an adventure novel. I'm sure he'll love it.
Mary: All right! Ladiva, do you mind if I write my letter here?
Ladiva: Of course not! I've got pen and ink over there, so help yourself.
Mary: Wow, you're like a genie! You've got everything I need! Time to get down to work then.
Mary rolls up her sleeves and begins writing about her daily life aboard the Grandcypher.
Mary: Mm-hm, and then...
Ladiva: ...
Ladiva washes the dishes as she keeps watch over her young friend.

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 1: Kindly Red - Episode 3

Ladiva throws herself into improving the food and drink selection at Raduga, hoping to make it as appealing a destination as possible. Phoebe observes the goings-on, still unable to come out and say that she wants to help Ladiva in the subgalley.

Ladiva: Mmm... Oh dear...
Keehar: Why, whatever is the matter? You seem troubled.
Ladiva: Oh, hello, Keehar. I'm thinking about restocking our alcohol.
Keehar: Oho! A matter near and dear to my own heart.
Keehar: I may partake of Raduga's fine selection on occasion, as well you know.
Ladiva: The way you savor your wine is so sophisticated. I have a lot to learn from you.
Keehar: Ha-ha! There were some legendary drinkers on my crew, back in the day.
Keehar: When I came of age, they took me to all manner of watering holes all across the skies!
Ladiva: Well, I don't know if Raduga can compete with all the famous places you remember...
Ladiva: But I'll do my best to satisfy your palate!
Keehar: It's clear as day to my practiced eye what an effort you put in already. Is there something in particular that's worrying you?
Ladiva: Well... Maybe it can't be helped, but...
Ladiva: An airship is always on the move, you know? So it isn't easy to maintain a stable selection.
Ladiva: I hate to disappoint people when they come back and want to order the same drink they enjoyed the last time.
Keehar: I see...
Ladiva: If I order in bulk, I know Sierokarte could get a hold of it for me, but...
Keehar: Securing the same drinks each time is certainly a challenge.
Keehar: But maybe it isn't such a bad thing for Raduga's offerings to change as we travel.
Keehar: It's difficult to choose between the pleasure of discovery and the comforting familiarity of old favorites.
Keehar: A traveling bar whose shelves are constantly refreshed with specialties from new islands sounds exciting to me.
Ladiva: That's a very good point, Keehar!
Ladiva: Maybe everyone will enjoy it more if I put my energy into collecting as many varieties as possible, instead of trying to keep old items in stock.
Ladiva: I guess I got caught up on that one point. It doesn't do to overthink these things on your own, does it?
Ladiva: You've opened my eyes, Keehar. Thank you!
Keehar: Think nothing of it! It just means more variety for me to enjoy!
Keehar: I'm looking forward to my next visit to Raduga! Ha-ha!
After chatting with Keehar, Ladiva asks opinions from a few other passing crew members before deciding on her wine order.
With that squared away, she begins preparations for tonight's midnight snack.
Ladiva: Hmm-hm-hmm!
Syr: Huh? Is Raduga open during the day too?
Ladiva: Oh, Syr! Come on in!
Syr: Hey, Ladiva! Are you getting ready for tonight?
Ladiva: That's right. I just got in some fresh edamame I want everyone to try.
Syr: Whoa, is all of that beans?
Ladiva: It certainly is! The stalks and leaves add a lot of volume though.
Syr: That looks like too much prep for one person. Let me help!
Ladiva: Are you sure? I don't want to take you from anything...
Syr: I don't have any missions today, so I'm free!
Young Cat (Event) is a crew member

Syr: In fact, I was just sunning myself on the deck with (Young Cat).
Ladiva: In that case, I'd be glad for an extra pair of hands.
Syr: At your service! Should I just slice off the stalks like this?
Ladiva: Yes. Just be careful not to cut yourself. Thank you so much for helping.
Syr: Hehe, don't sweat it!
With Syr in charge of the edamame, Ladiva turns her attention to other preparations.
As the two of them work in companionable harmony a small figure peeps around the doorframe.
Phoebe: Nnh...
Phoebe: (I... I wanna help Ladiva like he's doing...)
Phoebe: (But... but... I don't wanna bother her!)
Morphe: Phoebe.
Phoebe: Wah!
Morphe: Whoa!
You don't have to act so surprised...
Ladiva: Hm? What was that noise?
Phoebe: ...!
Ladiva: No one there... Maybe I'm hearing things...
Phoebe: Huff... Puff...
Morphe: Phoebe... Did we really need to run away like that?
Morphe: I'm sure Ladiva wouldn't mind if you offered to help out.
Phoebe: How do you know!
Phoebe: Ah...
Phoebe: S-sorry, Morphe... I...
Morphe: Don't worry about it... I'm sorry if I pushed you too hard...
Phoebe: No, I'm sorry. I know I'm making too big a deal of this...
Phoebe: Even so...
Morphe: ...

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 1: Kindly Red - Episode 4

Sig visits Raduga with a dejected Herja, who's been keeping all her anxiety and insecurity locked inside. Ladiva gives Herja a shoulder to cry on and encourages her to come vent at Raduga whenever she wants. Even those usually reluctant to show weakness seem to find solace in Ladiva's loving embrace.

Ladiva: Here's your fried edamame. Try adding a little salt, if you like.
Sig: What have we here? The green beans look so cute in their yellow nests. Now for a taste test...
Sig: Mm! The beans and batter are crunchy, and the salt really draws out the edamame's sweetness. I could eat a whole mountain of these!
No version of Sig in crew

Sig is captain of the Druga Pirates, a crew who once battled with the massive fish primal, Albacore.
After defeating her aquatic foe with (Captain)'s help, Sig decided to join the Grandcypher's crew.
Sig wanted to pursue bigger catches beyond Auguste's borders but was reluctant to leave the Drugas behind, so her subordinates specifically asked (Captain) to take her along.
This hardy sailor wields a harpoon well enough to bring down a primal beast, and always keeps an eye out for her crewmates. She has become a regular at Raduga.
Sig: Herja, come try these!
Herja: Whimper... Thank you, Sig...
Munch, crunch...

Herja used to lead the band of agents known as the Iron Spear.
Her family was scattered by a dispute over their legacy. She joined the crew in hopes of finding them.
Trained by her father in swordplay, her skills are the genuine article. When it comes to love, however, her defenses are less refined—she has a tendency to let her assumptions run off with her.

Herja: Delicious... So even sadness doesn't dull my sense of taste...
Ladiva: Are you all right, Herja? You might want to stay away from the heavy liquor tonight.
Ladiva: How about a cocktail with tomato juice and just a splash of vodka?
Herja: Okay... Yes, please...
Sig: For goodness' sake, you've been like this all day. What happened?
Ladiva: I don't want to pry, but if it would lighten your load, I'll be glad to listen too.
Herja: Nnh... Your kindness is wasted on someone like me...
Ladiva: Don't talk like that. You have a responsibility to love yourself first, you know.
Ladiva: If you keep telling yourself you're not worthy, you'll end up believing it.
Herja: But... I'm just so far behind. No matter how hard I train, I can't measure up to my father. I've hit a wall.
Herja: At this rate, I'll never be worthy of being in love!
Sig: When you get to your skill level, you're bound to level off a bit. That's nothing to beat yourself up over.
Ladiva: Sig's right. And you don't need a license for love.
  1. It's something you find when you're ready.
  2. It's something you fall into.

Choose: It's something you find when you're ready.
Ladiva: I think when you find yourself wanting to fall in love, that feeling itself is all the qualification you need.
Ladiva: If you're looking for romance, you'll polish yourself. And everyone does that in their own way.
Sig: Polish yourself, eh? For you, that'd be your swordsmanship training, right, Herja?
Ladiva: When you throw yourself into self-improvement, the people around you will naturally be drawn to your charm.

Choose: It's something you fall into.
Ladiva: Love happens in an instant, and you never have time to prepare.
Herja: Th-that's true! Love has always hit me like a bolt out of the blue!
Ladiva: You could spend all your time preparing and never fall in love, or be swept off your feet when you're least expecting it.
Ladiva: If getting yourself ready for love isn't working, leaving yourself open might be the best strategy.
Ladiva: You don't want to spend your time worrying and be all worn out when love does come calling.
Continue 2
Herja: Maybe you're right...
Ladiva: Herja, you're a serious, hard worker and devoted to your family.
Ladiva: There's no need to rush. Your efforts will bear fruit in time, and I'm sure love will come looking for you too!
Herja: Sniff... Ladivaaa...
Herja: My father isn't around anymore to answer my questions about training, or my family, or my future...
Herja: It's pathetic, but without that reassurance, I'm always so anxious!
Ladiva: I know... As an adult it's hard to open up to others about your problems...
Ladiva: One day, you'll meet that special person who can share your burdens and confide all their worries to you. Until then, you know I'm always here for you.
Herja: Waaahhh! Ladivaaa!
Ladiva: There, there, Herja. I've got you. Cry all you want. Just let it out.
Herja: Whimper... Sniffle...
Ladiva holds Herja gently and strokes her hair.
Sig: Haha, you're a font of wisdom, Ladiva.
Any version of Lamretta is a crew member

Sig: Isn't she, Lamretta?
Lamretta: Zzz... Snrk... Zzz...
Even those who usually keep their insecurities locked deep inside find comfort and security in Ladiva's loving embrace.
Finally able to confide in someone, Herja brightens and, under Ladiva and Sig's affectionate gaze, enjoys a wonderful night.

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 2: Pleasant Orange - Episode 1

On his evening rounds through the ship, Seox stumbles across Phoebe lurking by Raduga's door. When he asks for an explanation, she drags him inside. (Captain) and the others watch as Seox, too, is won over by Ladiva's delicious cooking.

Given charge of the Grandcypher's newly-discovered subgalley, Ladiva has turned it into a relaxing little nighttime haunt called Raduga.
Crewmates are drawn to her door by the drink selection, tasty home cooking, and the warmth and magnetism of Ladiva herself.
(Captain), too, drops by now and then to spend time with the night owls of the crew.
Seox: !
Seox: Oh, it's you, (Captain). I've told you not to sneak up behind me like that.
Vyrn: Hehe... You're wide open...
Seox: Good grief...
Vyrn: Hey! Hold still!
Seox: What do you take me for! I know you're aiming for my mask!
Seox not in crew

The Eternals are the strongest crew in the skies, each the foremost expert in one weapon or fighting style. Seox is the Eternal who specializes in fighting with his fists.
He is the last surviving member of the Karm Clan, a family of assassins said to be the world's greatest martial artists.
Seox had a cruel childhood, shunned by his own relatives because of his talents. He found unsought solace in the kindness of a certain skyfarer.
Intrigued by (Captain), who was bound for the ends of the skies just as that other skyfarer had been, Seox has gradually thawed toward the captain.
Seox: So? What business do you have with me?
Vyrn: Oh, that's right! What're you doin' tonight, Seox? If you're free, you should come with us to Raduga!
Seox: Raduga... Rainbow?
Vyrn: Haven't you heard? Ladiva's been serving up food and drinks in the subgalley every night.
Vyrn: We're too young for the drinks part, but her cooking's really good! Tempted yet?
Seox: Not a bit.
Vyrn: What? Why!
Seox: I'm just... not interested. Besides, I'm not here to socialize.
Ignoring (Captain) and the others' crestfallen faces, Seox heads back to his room.
That night, however, as he prowls the ship's corridors, Seox finds himself standing before a certain door... and not alone.
Seox: Hey.
Phoebe: Yeek!
Seox: What are you doing out here? Aren't you going in—
Phoebe: Yes! Yes, of course I'm going in!
Phoebe: You are too, right? Let's go in together! Together!
Seox: What? Hey, let go of me! I don't want to—
Ladiva: Welcome! Oh, it's Phoebe and Seox! I'm so glad to see you!
Vyrn: Well, look who decided to show!
Seox and Phoebe are greeted by (Captain), Vyrn, Lyria, Jamil, and Ladiva.
Seox: No, I was just—
Lyria: Seox, Phoebe, there are two seats right here!
Phoebe: Th-thank you!
Seox: Stop pulling me!
Seox: (...!
How did he get behind me!)
Jamil: Master said that you were blocking the entrance.
With Jamil pressing him forward and Phoebe directly in front of him, Seox finds himself obliged to come quietly if he doesn't want to bowl the primal over.
Vyrn: What's the holdup? Sit, sit!
Ladiva: Here are your starters. Rillette canapes topped with dried figs.
Phoebe: Ohhh! They look amazing!
Seox: She can have mine. I—
Seeing Seox about to make good his escape, (Captain) shoots a meaningful glance at Jamil.
Jamil: I beg your pardon.
Seox: Let go of my arm. I'm going back to my—
Seox: Argh!
Vyrn: Yeesh, stop being so contrary!
Seox: G-give that back! Give back my maaask!
(Captain) and Lyria sidle up while Seox is distracted, each with a canape in hand.
Lyria: Say "ahh," Seox!
Seox: Mrph!
Seox: What are... you... Munch... Crunch...
Seox: It's good.
Ladiva: I'm thrilled you like it! There's lots more where that came from, so eat your fill!
Ladiva: You too, Phoebe! Here, try this cheese and pickle canape next.
Phoebe: Thank you... Um... That milk you made for me before was delicious too.
Phoebe: I'm sorry I left so suddenly.
Ladiva: Oh please, there's no standing on ceremony here. Come and go whenever you feel like it.
Phoebe: ...
'Kay.
Seox, back in possession of his mask, narrows his eyes at the cheerfully snacking captain.
Seox: (Captain)... What are you smirking about. You look like Seofon.
Lyria: (Captain)'s just happy both of you came! And so am I!
Seox: I don't understand either of you.
Ladiva and (Captain) exchange a pleased, if slightly conspiratorial, smile.

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 2: Pleasant Orange - Episode 2

Morphe reveals to Syr and Ladiva that Phoebe wants to help out at Raduga, so Syr goes to invite her. Phoebe hesitates, sure her mistakes will cause a nuisance for Ladiva, but Ladiva assures her that it's her helpful impulse that truly counts.

Ladiva: Annnd... there we go!
Syr: That cheese must be really hard if it takes that much effort to grate...
Ladiva: It is! Maybe it's because it dehydrates as it matures...
Ladiva: Hrrmph!
Syr has returned to help Ladiva in the subgalley on many an afternoon.
Ladiva: You have a talent for potato peeling, Syr.
Syr: Hehe. The thinner you make the peel, the more potato there is to eat. So we practiced, back home.
Syr: What are these potatoes for, by the way?
Ladiva: I was thinking of making galettes using this cheese. Oh, or aligot might be good too...
Syr: I've never heard of that before! What's it taste like?
Ladiva: I guess you'll have to be my taste-tester and find out!
Syr: Can I? All right!
Hazen: My goodness. You begin preparations this early? How diligent. And Syr, I commend you for helping out.
Syr: Ehehe...
No version of Hazen in crew

Hazen is a priest of the god of wind, traveling from island to island to guide people onto the virtuous path.
He respects (Captain) for shouldering the responsibility of captaincy and seeking the ends of the skies at such a young age.
At the same time, he is determined to deliver a stern lecture to (Captain)'s father, who set his child on such a dangerous path. Hazen is therefore bound for Estalucia along with the crew.
Hazen: I'd like to help out. Is there anything I can do? I'm not much good with anything but raw strength, unfortunately...
Ladiva and Syr look up from their preparations at Hazen's hesitant offer.
Morphe: ...
Hello!
Syr: Oh, hi, Morphe!
Morphe: Um, I was also wondering if there was anything I could do.
Ladiva: Morphe too? Oh, you're all so sweet!
Hazen: Haha. It's only natural that people would flock to your positive attitude and do their best to assist you.
Morphe: Uh... To be honest... I have an ulterior motive...
Syr: An ulterior motive?
Morphe: Yes. You see, it was my sister's idea to help Ladiva.
Morphe: But Phoebe has trouble talking to new people, so she hasn't been able to come out and offer.
Morphe: I was thinking that if I pitched in first, it might be easier for her.
Hazen: She's shy, eh? Now that I think of it, she has always seemed rather nervous when we've spoken.
Hazen: I was wondering if my imposing stature and booming voice put her ill at ease.
Morphe: Phoebe wants to make friends, but she trips herself up worrying that she'll make people hate her.
Syr: Mm... But if she never talks to anyone, they can't like her or hate her.
Morphe: Haha, very true. Her anxieties get the better of her, and she never makes the first attempt.
Ladiva: I didn't realize... She must really have had to work up her courage to come in here with Seox the other night.
Morphe: She really did that? I must have been asleep.
Syr: Hey, Morphe? Why don't I go invite Phoebe to join us right now?
Syr: If we can get her to help out once, I'm sure she'll realize she was just overthinking things!
Hazen: I agree. Fear of the unknown fades quickly in the light, so they say.
Ladiva: I guess it might be a little too direct if I went to ask her myself.
Ladiva: If you think it's all right, Morphe, let's let Syr do the talking.
Ladiva: I'd really like to get to know her better!
Morphe: You're right, Ladiva!
Morphe: I'm sorry to impose, Syr, but would you mind?
Syr: Don't even sweat it! I'll be right back!
Phoebe: I wonder where Morphe went...
Syr: Oh, Phoeeebeee!
Phoebe: Whuh... Uh... Um... You're... Syr, right?
Syr: Yep! Listen, I'm helping Ladiva out in the subgalley today.
Phoebe: Oh... I see...
Phoebe: (That's right... I saw him there the other day too... I guess if she has Syr...)
Phoebe: (Then she doesn't need me...)
Syr: So we were wondering if—
Phoebe?
Phoebe: Nnhh...
Syr: Whoa, Phoebe, are you okay? You don't look so good!
Mary: Hm?
Mary: Syr! What did you do to Phoebe!
Syr: Mary!
Mary: Look at her, she's shaking! Where do you get off bullying her!
Syr: I-I wasn't! I swear!
Mary: Reeeallyyy?
Phoebe: R-really!
Syr: Phew. Thanks, Phoebe.
Phoebe: I-I... I'm sorry... I was just... surprised...
Mary: Really? This goofus didn't do anything stupid?
Phoebe: He didn't!
Mary: Oh! Well, all right then.
Syr: It's not all right! You! Owe me! An apology, Mary!
Mary: Sure, sure. I'm sorry. My bad.
Syr: Humph!
Phoebe: Hehe...
Mary: So what did you want with Phoebe, Syr?
Syr: Oh, that's right!
Syr: Listen, Phoebe. Do you wanna come help me and Ladiva?
Phoebe: Huh?
Mary: Ohh, there's a lotta prep to do, huh? Maybe I oughta pitch in too. Whaddya think, Phoebe? Wanna come?
Phoebe: ...!
Phoebe: I... I wanna!
Syr: Great! Then let's get the lead out!
Phoebe: Okay!
Syr: I'm baaack!
Mary: Hellooo!
Phoebe: H... Hellooo...
Ladiva: Ohh, come right on in!
Phoebe: Umm... Ladiva?
Ladiva: Yes, Phoebe?
Phoebe: Um... Is it...
Phoebe: Is it okay... if I help out too?
Phoebe: I might... mess up...
Ladiva: Of course! As long as you do it with love, that's all that matters!
Ladiva: Thank you for lending a hand, Phoebe!
Phoebe: You're welcome!

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 2: Pleasant Orange - Episode 3

Leona stops into Raduga looking for Cain and ends up confiding her doubts about their relationship to Ladiva. When she falls asleep, Ladiva tucks her in on the couch. Cain comes by soon after and reveals to Ladiva that he's trying to keep the memory of his brother alive by preserving the same relationship he had with Leona when Abel was alive.

Leona: Hello, Ladiva. Is Cain here?
Leona, a general from Idelva Kingdom in Nalhegrande, walks into Raduga.
Assigned by her sovereign to watch over (Captain) and crew, she has gradually been getting to know them better.
Today she has been aboard the Grandcypher to help out on a mission.
Ladiva: Cain? No, I haven't seen him today.
Ladiva: He might drop in later though.
Leona: I see... Agh, where has he wandered off to?
Leona: He's always oversleeping, so I want to make sure he gets to bed on time.
Ladiva: Well, even when he burns the midnight oil, Cain is always on the ball by noon.
Ladiva: I think you could stand a little self-care yourself, Leona. Have a seat and relax.
Leona: Just for a little while then... Thank you.
Ladiva: What's your pleasure, sweet or spicy?
Leona: Hm... Spicy?
Ladiva: Here you are. It's cabbage with a special dressing. I warn you, it's addictive!
Leona: Thank you.
Munch.
Leona: The sour and savory notes in the dressing are the perfect contrast to the sweetness of the cabbage!
Any version of Lucius is a crew member

Ladiva: I'm really proud of it. It even got Lucius to eat cabbage, and he hates vegetables.
Ladiva: Hehe, now how about some of this sausage? It goes perfectly with beer.
Leona: How can I refuse?
Ladiva: You're always up and burning energy because of your work. You know what they say—an army marches on its stomach!
Ladiva: So don't be shy! You need your nutrition!
Leona: Ahh, everything's too delicious to resist! I'll take you up on that!
Leona indulges her appetite and devours every dish and drink Ladiva sets before her.
Leona: Mmf... So good... I see why Cain's in here all the time...
Leona: Cain...
Ladiva: Haha, you two get along so well.
Leona: Mm... I don't know about that...
Leona: He's a talented kid... but... he never... listens to me...
Leona: How come? Is it 'cause... we're not blood relatives?
Ladiva: Leona...
  1. I think he enjoys you spoiling him.
  2. Maybe what you need is a little distance?

Choose: I think he enjoys you spoiling him.
Ladiva: The reason Cain can act so freely is because he has you close by.
Ladiva: He counts on you always being there to take care of him, and maybe he takes advantage of it a little. But that just shows how much he trusts you.
Leona: You think so?

Choose: Maybe what you need is a little distance?
Ladiva: Sometimes we forget how important people are to us because we're so used to having them around.
Ladiva: Maybe a little distance now and then can help us realize how much we care about each other.
Leona: But... if I did that, I feel like... We might never get that closeness back.
Continue 1
Leona: Cain and I aren't... really family...
Leona: If I let any distance come between us, that might be the end...
Leona: Abel...
Ladiva: Leona...
Leona: ...
Leona dozes off and Ladiva carries her over to the sofa.
Not long after, the very person Leona was seeking pops into Raduga.
Cain: Huh? Leo! Uh... huh. She's asleep.
Ladiva: She must have been tired—the beer put her right out.
Ladiva: You shouldn't make your big sister worry so much.
Cain: Mm... I'm ashamed of myself. I know I shouldn't take advantage of her kindness the way I do...
Cain: But I don't want things to change... I don't want to forget the life we had when my brother was still alive.
Cain: I guess for both of us, acting like we did back then is our way of denying he's gone.
Ladiva: It can't be easy on you two... But memories are complex things.
Ladiva: The very same one that can hurt you to relive sometimes, can be a source of strength at others.
Cain: That's true... One day, I hope those memories will be more than just painful.
Ladiva: I do too. Even if the pain doesn't vanish completely.
Leona: ...
Cain: Sigh... Look at her, sleeping so peacefully while I tie myself in knots. I guess I'll drink a toast to that restful slumber.
Leona: Ehehe... Mrfle...

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 2: Pleasant Orange - Episode 4

(Captain) and the others worry that Ladiva may be overworking herself at Raduga. To allay their fears, Jamil asks to join the Raduga staff.

Lyria: Hello, Ladiva!
Ladiva: Lyria, Captain, Vyrn! Even Jamil! Come in, come in!
Ladiva: Sorry, hold on just a minute. I've got a sleepy customer over here who needs a blanket.
Vyrn: No problem! Take all the time you need!
Ladiva: Hehe, thank you, Vyrn. Have a seat at the counter.
Vyrn: Okay!
Jamil: I am always impressed by Ladiva's solicitude toward others.
Jamil: Not only does she do her utmost to provide everyone with the food and drink they will most enjoy—she also takes pains to ensure an exhausted crew member won't catch a chill.
Lyria: That's true. She's always thinking of everyone else.
Lyria: But... that actually makes me worry just a little.
Vyrn: Mm... Yeah. She's here running Raduga every night lately.
Lyria: She's always willing to push herself a little if it'll help someone else...
Lyria: But a little adds up to a lot over time.
Vyrn: True. I don't think she's the type to put her feet up just because someone tells her to take five though.
(Captain) has been thinking the same thing. Together they watch Ladiva bustle about her tasks.
Jamil: (Hm...)
Seeing the worry on (Captain) and Lyria's faces, Jamil determines to take action.
As Raduga's last customers are heading out that night, and Ladiva is tidying up, the subgalley's doorbell rings.
Jamil: Greetings, Ladiva. May I have a moment of your time?
Ladiva: Of course! What's on your mind? Is it something I can help with?
Jamil: Actually, just the opposite.
Ladiva: Hm?
Jamil: I would like to offer you my assistance.
Jamil: My training has accustomed me to working at night.
Jamil: Could I prevail upon you to add me to Raduga's staff?
Ladiva blinks in surprise at this earnest request.
Her face softens as she realizes the love behind Jamil's words, driving him to care for his crewmate's wellbeing and his friends' peace of mind.

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 3: Sunlight Yellow - Episode 1

Seox visits Raduga while Jamil is on duty. The two assassins are initially wary of each other, but upon witnessing the trust with which Seox accepts a strong-smelling dish—anathema to all assassins—Jamil is moved to lower his guard.

Lately Ladiva has been extremely busy running Raduga. (Captain) and the others worry she may be overworking herself.
For her sake, and to put (Captain)'s mind at rest, Jamil volunteered to work alongside Ladiva in the subgalley.
Ladiva: Are you all right, Jamil? Tell me if you get sleepy, okay? I don't want you wearing yourself out.
Jamil: I am perfectly well. I am trained to go several days without rest, should the need arise.
Ladiva: Several days! That's an impressive ability, but you're not allowed to overdo it like that now, you hear?
Jamil: Understood. Please remember to take care of yourself as well. (Captain) worries about you.
Ladiva: You're right. I want to make everyone happy, and I can't do that if I work myself into a hospital bed. I'll be careful.
Ladiva: Thank you, Jamil. You're a huge help.
Jamil: Not at all... I'm pleased to be of use however possible...
Jamil: But while I am competent in camp food preparation and able to sort out poisonous ingredients, I have no skill in home cooking...
Ladiva: Well, this is a fine time to learn. If you can cook over a campfire, I'm sure it'll come easy to you.
Jamil: I will spare no effort. This skill would help me to better see to (Captain) and Lyria's needs.
Ladiva: All you need to be a good cook are love and good measurements. I know you'll master it in no time.
The two of them are still in the midst of their preparations, but crew members begin to pop in, and Raduga is soon bustling with activity.
Ladiva: Can you bring this to the corner table?
Jamil: Of course.
Ah, and this order...
Late that night, just when Ladiva and Jamil find a moment to catch their breath, an unexpected guest slips into the subgalley.
Seox: Hey.
Jamil: ...!
Jamil: (The scent of blood is sunk deep into his skin. It struck me when I saw him the other night, but this person...)
Seox: (The assassin from the other night!)
Seox: (He seems attached to (Captain), but...)
Ladiva: Seox, how lovely to see you again! Have a seat here at the counter.
Seox: ...
All right. Could I have something light to eat? I don't want any alcohol.
Ladiva: Coming right up! Here, this quiche should amuse your bouche. It's barely a mouthful though.
Ladiva: And then, let's see... How about some gambas al ajillo?
Seox: I'll trust your judgment.
(It's not like those names mean anything to me.)
Jamil: Al ajillo... If I recall, that is food fried in oil which has been seasoned by simmering garlic and chili peppers.
Ladiva: Very good, yes! It's not too complicated, so why don't I coach you through it?
Any version of Cucouroux is a crew member, Any version of Camieux is a crew member

Ladiva: Cucouroux and Camieux gave me some mushrooms they gathered from the mountains near their home. We'll use those, and...
Jamil: But... garlic...
Jamil: (Assassins strictly avoid foods with strong odors. Will he eat it?)
Jamil glances at Seox, who gives him a curt nod.
Seox: I don't care. Give me that gambas, or whatever it's called.
Jamil: ...!
Seox: I asked to be fed. I won't complain about what I'm given or question the ones feeding me.
Jamil: I... see.
Jamil: (He is on this airship by the captain's permission.)
Jamil: (My suspicions of this person are disrespectful. I should know better.)
Under Ladiva's direction, Jamil sets about preparing prawns and mushrooms al ajillo.
Jamil: It's finished!
Ladiva: Oh, excellent job!
Here you go, Seox. Try it with a slice of baguette.
Seox: Thank you.
Ladiva: Seox will probably be our last customer of the night.
Ladiva: Thanks for all your hard work, Jamil. Why don't you sample your creation too?
Jamil: ...
I will.
Seox: You sure? There's garlic in it.
Jamil: You were kind enough to eat it. I could not possibly abstain.
Seox: I see.
Jamil: Thank you for this meal.
Ladiva watches as the two assassins tuck into their aromatic midnight meal.

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 3: Sunlight Yellow - Episode 2

Suframare and Elmott chat about Elmott's students at Mysteria Academy. Even Jamil can't hide a smile at Elmott's flustered reaction to Suframare and Ladiva's praise.

Jamil: May I take your order?
Suframare: Mmm... I can't decide! I never expected such a diverse drink selection!
Krugne is a crew member

Suframare: If only Krugne were here, I could borrow his dice and let chance decide!
Ladiva: Hehe... If you're so torn, you can always try them all.
Suframare: All of them! I have classes to teach tomorrow, Ladiva... I shouldn't...
Elmott: Heh. Finishing all that wouldn't just be drinking like a fish—you'd be an Albacore at that point.
Any version of Ghandagoza is a crew member

Elmott: Maybe Ghandagoza could manage it.
Suframare is here tonight with her friend Elmott.

Elmott's great skill in flame manipulation earned him the attention of Mysteria Academy, where he has been recruited to teach twice now.
The second time, he was forced to fight some minors in order to protect his own students. As a result of the incident, he left the school when his contract was up.
He was so beloved by his students that some in the administration would still like to see him return in a permanent capacity.
Suframare: A toast, Elmott!
Elmott: All right, all right. What are we toasting?
Suframare: Hm... How about the Mysteria students and staff who are still writing you letters?
Elmott: What kinda toast is that!
Suframare: Well, you always look so happy when I see you reading their letters!
Suframare: I think it's wonderful that the joy of teaching puts a smile on your face.
Elmott: I don't know how you say embarrassing stuff like that with a straight face.
Suframare: Hehe, I'm immune to your prickly spines, Elmott.
Suframare: You talk a good game, but you can't hide how much you care about your students.
Suframare: That's why there are still people at Mysteria who want to make you a permanent faculty member.
Elmott: Dunno what they're thinking, trying to make that mistake again. And they're persistent too.
Suframare: Hehe, they're really trying their best to get him back, Ladiva.
Ladiva: Isn't it nice to know people are thinking of you?
Elmott: Can be kind of a pain sometimes...
  1. Oh, don't get bashful.
  2. You shouldn't string them along, you know.

Choose: Oh, don't get bashful.
Ladiva: Oh, Elmott. You don't have to hide your true feelings.
Suframare: He can't anyway. When he's happy, his ears prick straight up.
Elmott: What!
Elmott: Are you serious?
Suframare: Hehehe... That's for me to know.

Choose: You shouldn't string them along, you know.
Ladiva: If you really don't want to teach there again, it'd be kinder to refuse outright. You don't want to get their hopes up just to disappoint them.
Elmott: Yeah... You're right. It takes effort to write all those letters too.
Suframare: It's up to you of course... But I think teaching is in your blood, Elmott.
Continue 1
Suframare: You're kind, and always try to understand how others feel.
Suframare: Because of that, you can intuit what it is your students need to learn. That's an essential skill for an educator.
Ladiva: And you have the consideration not to push other people's boundaries. That's why young people can trust you.
Suframare: Exactly! For the kind of kids who don't want to be ignored or smothered, you're like a safe harbor in the storm.
Ladiva: I know just what you mean, Suframare! Elmott knows that real love is never forceful.
Elmott: You two are laying it on really thick. Are you making fun of me?
Suframare: Never! I'm trying to build you up!
Elmott: Well, it's makin' my skin crawl, so knock it off!
Suframare: Nope, you won't get off that easy! Tonight I'm going to teach you just what a talented instructor you are!
Suframare: And I'm a strict teacher, you know! You'd better take notes!
Elmott: Are you soused already? You haven't even finished your first glass...
Suframare: No talking in the back!
Elmott: Ladiva, stop laughing and help me out here!
Ladiva: Nooo, this might be an important part of my education. I want to be a good student!
Elmott: Fine! Just abandon me in my hour of need!
Jamil! We need some water over here!
Jamil: Haha... Coming right up.
Elmott: You're in on it too, Jamil? I can't believe this...

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 3: Sunlight Yellow - Episode 3

Ladiva, Phoebe, Morphe, and Syr go shopping for kitchen supplies. On their way back, Phoebe spots some beautiful fabric in a store window. Gathering her courage, she suggests using it to make place mats for Raduga, and Ladiva enthusiastically agrees. Morphe looks on happily as his sister excitedly peruses materials in the fabric store.

Syr: Wow... I didn't realize there were this many varieties of ham!
Morphe: Whoa! This one's full of cloves and it's still so cheap!
One afternoon, Ladiva, Syr, Morphe, and Phoebe pay a visit to the shopping district on the island where the Grandcypher is docked.
Syr: This place is amazing, Ladiva! We should be able to find everything on our list!
Ladiva: I think so! It's very crowded though, so let's be careful not to get separated.
Syr & Morphe: Okaaay!
Ladiva: Phoebe, are you all right? Tell me if the crowds start to get to you.
Phoebe: Okay, thanks. I'm fine for now though.
Phoebe: First we need vegetables, right? Let's look for the shop with the best ones.
Ladiva: Right! Everyone keep your eyes peeled.
The little group scours the shopping arcade for promising ingredients.
By the time they find everything they're looking for, their feet are beginning to hurt.
Syr: Ooof! That's the last thing on the list!
Ladiva: Great work, everyone! Let's find a nice restaurant where we can relax before we head back to the ship.
Morphe: Oh, what about that herbal tea shop we saw earlier? It looked like they had an incredible selection...
Phoebe: Nnh... I don't mind where we stop, as long as we can sit down...
Ladiva: Phoebe, do you want a piggyback ride?
Phoebe: No... I'm fine... I'm sorry I can't carry anything though...
Ladiva: Don't worry about that! You did a wonderful job finding the freshest vegetables for us.
Ladiva: Come on, let's try out Morphe's tea shop.
The shoppers head back the way they came with Ladiva in the lead.
Phoebe: Ah...
Phoebe, bringing up the rear, lingers in front of one particular shop front.
Phoebe: (That fabric is so pretty! I love the pattern. Shiny, but not too gaudy...)
Phoebe: (I bet it would make nice place mats.)
Phoebe: (I think it'd match Raduga's plates... I'm no good at sewing though...)
Ladiva: Phoebe? Is something wrong?
Phoebe: Oh, no. Sorry, I got distracted...
Phoebe: (I... I want to get that fabric... But everyone's tired. We should hurry up and get to that tea shop!)
Morphe: Ooh, what beautiful cloth! I love how the pattern is woven with shiny thread.
Ladiva: It is pretty, isn't it? What an elegant color combination!
Phoebe: Ah!
Phoebe: I-I... I thought so too!
Phoebe: If we used it to make place mats, I think they would set off the entree plates at Raduga really well!
Ladiva: Phoebe...
Phoebe: Ah...
Phoebe: I-I'm sorry... It was just an idea... I'm not even good enough with a needle to do it myself...
Phoebe hangs her head, immediately regretting her burst of enthusiasm. She looks up in surprise when Ladiva clasps her hands.
Ladiva: That, Phoebe, is a simply delightful idea!
Phoebe: Huh?
Ladiva: The mats would look great and make cleanup easier!
Ladiva: You really are a clever one, Phoebe!
Phoebe: Y... You think?
Ladiva: I do!
Ladiva: Let's buy ourselves a few bolts of this fabric. Mm... We'll need some thread as well...
Ladiva: Do you think you all could stand just a little more shopping?
Syr: You bet! Let's find the perfect thread, Morphe!
Morphe: Hehe, okay! Oh, the thread's over this way, Ladiva!
Ladiva: Thank you, Morphe. Oh, they've got some decorative cord, too. Our place mats might look nice with tassels!
Syr: Tassels?
Morphe: Oh, they're sort of... fluffy decorations made with a bundle of cord.
Syr: Oh, those things! Hmm, now what color would look best with this fabric?
Syr: What do you think, Phoebe? I think green would work!
Phoebe: Hm... Green might be... a little dark?
Ladiva: That's true... The light is pretty low at Raduga, so a brighter color might be better.
Morphe: How about this pale orange cord then?
Fatigue forgotten, the little group roots eagerly through the shelves of the craft store.
Phoebe: Ooh, Syr, look! This cord is yellow, but it sort of shines bluish in the light!
Syr: Oh yeah! How do they do that?
Morphe: Hehe...
Morphe: (Phoebe's having so much fun. I'm glad she decided to help out.)
Phoebe: Morphe, you have to see this! This one looks red in the light!
Morphe: Haha, you're right! There are so many amazing things in the skies we never even dreamed of...
Phoebe: Yeah!

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 3: Sunlight Yellow - Episode 4

In order to run Raduga and keep up with the rest of her duties, Ladiva decides she needs more training. She introduces the crew to her Lignoid, an automated training dummy she uses for "tackle drills." Herja and (Captain) join her for a training session, and more crew members gather to watch.

Vyrn: Phew! Thanks for coming along! Without you the client might've taken us for a ride.
Hazen: I didn't do much. (Captain) handled the actual negotiations.
Hazen: However, I find it reprehensible that people would attempt to take advantage of young skyfarers' inexperience with unscrupulous requests.
Vyrn: I know! It really scuffs my scales! Right, guys?
Lyria: Huh? Uh... r-right?
(Captain) gives the flustered Lyria a quizzical look.
Vyrn: What's up, Lyria? Daydreaming?
Lyria: Um... Do you see that over there? What do you think it is?
Hazen: Hmmm?
The others lean over the Grandcypher's rail to see what Lyria is pointing to.
Vyrn: Hmm? What is that?
Hazen: I'm not sure, but isn't that Ladiva carrying it?
Hazen: Ladivaaa! What have you got there?
Ladiva: Oh, back from your mission already? This is a Lignoid! I use it for tackle drills!
Vyrn: Tackle drills?
(Captain) and the others disembark to meet Ladiva and get some more details on this strange contraption.
Vyrn: What'd you say this was for? Tackle drills? Whaddya mean?
Ladiva: The first thing you need to work at Raduga is love, and the second is stamina!
Ladiva: I need to train myself all over again, so I have enough love for every single customer!
Lyria: I see! So you're going to tackle this... Lignoid. Just... whoomf!
Ladiva: Yes! With all my strength, just... Heave-ho!
Ladiva: The harder the workout, the more it'll refine your body and mind. Plus, a good sweat does wonders for the complexion!
Vyrn: What was that! A monster?
Herja: Did you say... complexion?
Hazen: Herja! What were you doing in the bushes?
Herja: N-nothing strange! I was just looking for the right tree to swing my sword at!
Ladiva: Perfect! Then why don't you join me for a few tackle drills?
Herja: I like the sound of training that's also good for the complexion, so I'd love to, if you don't mind!
Ladiva: Oh, please do! This Lignoid is very sturdy, so we can give it what for without breaking it.
Ladiva: Looks like I got your attention too, Captain. Come on, all together now!
Ladiva: Let's train till we're sweating love from every pore!
More crew members are drawn by the commotion and gather to watch (Captain), Herja, and Ladiva's tackle drills.
The clamor only grows as more people decide to throw themselves into this grueling workout.

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 4: Maze Green - Episode 1

Jamil mentions to Ladiva that (Captain) seems troubled lately. Ladiva is disappointed in herself for being so distracted with Raduga that she didn't notice the captain's mood earlier.

(Captain) and the others work up an invigorating sweat with their tackle drills.
Ladiva distributes towels so everyone can dry off and avoid catching cold. She doesn't seem at all tired after the workout.
Herja: I thought practicing with a Lignoid might be dull, but I see I had nothing to worry about.
Herja: In facing the Lignoid, we were actually facing ourselves. It really throws a spotlight on any unnecessary movements or wastes of energy!
Ladiva: If it gave you some ideas for your own training, I'm glad!
Ladiva: Any of you can join me whenever you like! In our line of work, a little extra conditioning never hurts.
(Captain) agrees to come sweat it out with the Lignoid again sometime soon.
Even with her regimen of tackle drills, Ladiva keeps Raduga running smoothly every night.
Vyrn: All that training Ladiva does must be paying off. Raduga is open every night, and she doesn't seem tired at all!
Lyria: I'm sure Jamil helping her out has something to do with it. Thank you, Jamil.
Jamil: The assistance I've been able to render has been trivial at best.
Jamil: It's not only food preparation that I'm learning from her. I'm getting to know how to serve it as well.
Jamil: I hope this experience will allow me to be of even greater use to you.
Lyria: Even more than now? You already take such good care of us, Jamil!
(Captain) agrees and reminds Jamil that it isn't just Ladiva they want to keep from overworking herself.
As (Captain) and the others walk and talk, they pass Raduga's door.
Syr: Gramps said they started growing herbs back home!
Morphe: Really? How nice. Maybe I'll give that a try.
Phoebe: Why don't you ask (Captain)? There's probably a little corner of the deck where an herb garden wouldn't get in the way.
Fif is a crew member

Phoebe: That little girl... Fif, I think her name was? I seem to remember she and Rosetta were growing flowers somewhere onboard.
Morphe: If we grew spices, they might be useful to Ladiva and the other people on cooking duty...
Lyria: What a wonderful idea!
Syr: Oh, hey, Lyria! And hi, (Captain)! Vyrn! Jamil!
Lyria: Hehe, I couldn't help overhearing.
Vyrn: You guys all helping Ladiva today?
Syr: We just finished! I was reading a letter from Gramps and Altos.
Syr: Gramps has awful handwriting, so Morphe was helping me decipher it.
Morphe: I'm glad he's doing well though. The gardening he's doing sounds like fun.
Syr: Yeah! I told him I was helping out in the subgalley, and he promised to send us some canned food made with his veggies.
Lyria: Ooh, that's great! I'm sure anything he makes will be delicious!
The group chats excitedly about the news from Galthazar and Altos.
That night, remembering their conversation, (Captain) pulls out the letter which arrived so long ago from Estalucia.
Lyria: (Captain), it's nearly time for dinner!
Lyria: Oh... That's the letter your father sent you, isn't it?
Lyria: I wish you had a way to write him back like Syr does...
Lyria: It's such a shame you haven't been able to correspond, but it's not easy to get a letter delivered to Estalucia.
Lyria: I guess we'll just have to reach the end of the skies so you can answer him!
Lyria: Let's go meet your father together, (Captain)!
(Captain) nods and runs over the letter's oft-read lines once more before carefully tucking it away.
As they voyage toward their far-off goal, (Captain) and the crew's days are rewarding but busy.
Every night, Raduga opens its door to welcome those hard-working adventurers.
Yngwie is a crew member

Yngwie: Later, Ladiva. Good night.
Ladiva: Good night, Yngwie. Come again soon.
Ladiva: Things are finally quieting down. Everyone must be heading off to sleep.
Ladiva: Thanks for everything today, Jamil. I can handle the rest. Why don't you call it a night?
Jamil: No, please allow me to wash the dishes. Many hands make light work, after all.
Jamil: You mustn't overburden yourself either, Ladiva.
Ladiva: Oh... Well, I guess I'll take you up on that then. I'm really grateful for all your help, Jamil!
Leaving Jamil at the sink, Ladiva sets about sweeping the floor.
Ladiva: Come to think of it, it's been a while since I saw the captain.
Ladiva: There've been so many missions lately... I hope (Captain)'s sleeping properly. I don't want our captain burning the candle at both ends.
Jamil: Actually... I wanted to speak to you about that.
Ladiva: You did? Go ahead. You can tell me anything.
Jamil: The truth is...
Jamil: I cannot help feeling that (Captain) has been in low spirits recently.
Ladiva: Really?
Jamil: In the time we have been acquainted, I have never known (Captain) to sigh so often.
Jamil: The captain seems distracted, thoughts far away... Slow to respond whenever Lyria or Vyrn speak...
Jamil: When I asked if exhaustion was to blame, Master merely insisted that all was well.
Ladiva: Oh no! Our poor captain!
Jamil: Master puts a great deal of faith in you.
Jamil: Perhaps you will succeed in learning the source of this malaise where I have failed.
Jamil: Ladiva, will you help me?
Ladiva: Of course! I'll do whatever I can.
Ladiva: I'm disappointed in myself for not noticing sooner that something was wrong.
Ladiva: (Poor (Captain) probably didn't want to bother me because I've been busy with Raduga...)
Ladiva: (Such a considerate person. Always thinking of others first.)
Ladiva: (Maybe a little too considerate to let anyone know when things get rough.)
Ladiva: (And I knew that! Agh, how could I let myself get so distracted with Raduga!)
Ladiva: (Here I was having the time of my life running the subgalley while the captain needed me!)
Ladiva: How could I ever be so heartless!

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 4: Maze Green - Episode 2

Ladiva, Lyria, Vyrn, and Jamil meet to discuss (Captain)'s apparent distress—none of them know the cause. (Captain) and some of the crew depart on a mission, leaving Ladiva on the Grandcypher. Phoebe overhears the conversation and offers Ladiva a charm, saying it may help them discover the cause of (Captain)'s troubles.

Jamil manages to share his concerns about (Captain)'s state of mind with Ladiva.
The next morning, the two of them meet with Lyria and Vyrn to discuss the issue.
Lyria: I'm sorry, Ladiva. Here we are calling a morning meeting after you spent all night working...
Ladiva: Don't you give it another thought. I'm glad you asked me.
Ladiva: I know just how much the captain means to the three of you.
Ladiva: I'm touched at the faith you're putting in me.
Lyria: Ladiva...
Ladiva: I also want to apologize. I didn't notice anything was wrong until Jamil mentioned it to me.
Vyrn: That's not your fault!
Vyrn: When (Captain) isn't feeling good, that goof always hides it.
Vyrn: (Captain) never wanted to bother the townspeople who looked after us. I guess the habit just stuck.
Lyria: It wouldn't be bothering us... Helping (Captain) could never be a bother, no matter what.
Jamil: It can be extremely difficult to unlearn the ingrained habits of youth.
Jamil: I've noticed many of my own, and there must be more I'm not even aware of.
Ladiva: You're right. So we'll just have to pull out all the stops and pamper (Captain) rotten.
Vyrn: How do we do that? We know (Captain) is down in the dumps, but we don't know why...
Lyria: I asked if there was anything the matter, but of course, (Captain) said no.
Lyria: I got the feeling I shouldn't press any harder...
Ladiva: Somehow we have to get the captain to open up to us.
Ladiva: But what is the key to the tightly-locked door of the captain's heart?
The group wonders how to go about discovering the source of (Captain)'s unhappiness.
Jamil: We should be heading to town shortly for today's mission.
Lyria: Oh, that's right! We shouldn't be late. I have to get ready.
Ladiva: This one's an overnight mission, if I recall.
Ladiva: I'll be here holding down the fort. Take care of yourselves now. I want you all back in one piece!
Lyria: We will! And we'll make sure (Captain) doesn't work too hard!
Ladiva watches her three young friends troop out. The door swings shut behind them.
Ladiva: Sigh...
Phoebe: Um... Ladiva?
Ladiva: Oh, Phoebe! What is it, dear?
Phoebe: I... overheard you talking about (Captain).
Phoebe: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to eavesdrop...
Ladiva: You're worried about the captain too, aren't you?
Ladiva: In your place, I'm sure I would have stopped to listen too. Don't feel too bad.
Phoebe: Thank you... But... About that...
Phoebe: I think... maybe... I might be able to help find out what the problem is.
Ladiva: What? Really?
Phoebe: Yeah... Tonight... when you go to sleep... Put this charm under your pillow.
Ladiva: A charm?
Phoebe: I don't know if it will work, but... Would you try it, Ladiva? For me?
Ladiva: Well... I suppose we shouldn't leave any stone unturned!
Ladiva: I'll take that charm, Phoebe. Thank you.
Phoebe: Okay. Then... I'll see you later.
Ladiva: Right, see you later!

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 4: Maze Green - Episode 3

Phoebe's charm brings Ladiva into the Gallery of Dreams, which connects all living people's dreams. Though she worries this is a violation of privacy, Ladiva ends up witnessing (Captain)'s dream. In that dream, loneliness over the absence of (Captain)'s father has a younger version of the captain in tears. Waking from the dream with her question answered, Ladiva sheds a tear of her own.

That night, while (Captain) and the others are away on a mission, Ladiva goes to sleep with Phoebe's charm under her pillow.
Ladiva: Zzz...
Ladiva: Oh... Where am I? I could have sworn I was asleep in bed...
Phoebe: Ladiva!
Ladiva: That sounded like Phoebe! I think it came from this direction...
Ladiva follows the sound of Phoebe's voice to a long row of small, wooden doors.
Ladiva: How strange. Nothing but doors. What are they all doing here?
Phoebe: Ladiva! Thank you for coming.
Ladiva: Phoebe! Meeting a friend in my dreams... It's like something out of a fairy tale!
Phoebe: Uh, well... This is a dream, but... it's also not.
Ladiva: A dream, but not a dream?
Phoebe: This is the Gallery of Dreams. There's a door here leading into the dreams of every person alive.
Phoebe: That charm I gave you brought your spirit out of your own dream and into the gallery.
Ladiva: I see! Your dream reading can do all this?
Phoebe: Yeah...
Morphe and Phoebe (Event) is a crew member

Phoebe: It's... one of my powers as Oneiros, the primal beast who governs dreams.
Phoebe: The same power that hurt (Captain) and the others...
Ladiva: Phoebe...
Phoebe: This time, I want to use it to help (Captain).
Phoebe: That's why we're here.
Ladiva: Don't worry, Phoebe. (Captain) and the others know you love them.
Ladiva: So please don't look so sad. Okay?
Phoebe: Thank you, Ladiva.
Ladiva: What's that? It sounds like... a small child crying.
The faint sound of an unhappy young voice has Ladiva reaching out instinctively to open the nearest door.
Ladiva: It leads to... a forest? I suppose anything is possible in a dream.
Ladiva: Whoever that is sounds so sad... I can't leave them alone.
Ladiva: Come on, Phoebe, we have to find them!
Phoebe: Okay!
Phoebe and Ladiva hurry into the woods beyond the door, seeking the owner of that forlorn voice.

Ladiva: Excuse me...
Ladiva is about to call out to the child when she notices a smaller figure near the stump.
Vyrn: Hey... C'mon, (Captain). Don't cry...
Ladiva: (Is that... Vyrn?)
Vyrn: When you cry like that, it makes me wanna cry too.
Vyrn: So please—cheer up! You know you'll always have me, no matter what!
Ladiva: (Does that mean... that child is our captain?)
Phoebe: Ladiva... The door you opened leads to (Captain)'s dreams.

Phoebe: Yes... (Captain) is dreaming this right now... And experiencing it as that child.
Phoebe: I thought if (Captain) was keeping feelings of sadness locked inside, they might show up in dreams.
Ladiva: That's true, but we still...
Phoebe: I know. It really isn't right to invade someone's dreams to find out what's bothering them.
Phoebe: But... I'm worried. (Captain) can't even open up to Lyria or Vyrn about this.
Phoebe: Holding in that kind of pain, dealing with it alone... It eats you up inside. I... I know.
Phoebe: If the same thing happened to (Captain), I just...
Ladiva: Phoebe...
Phoebe stands downcast, emotions on display with nowhere to hide. Ladiva reaches out to take her hand but is interrupted by Vyrn's voice.
Vyrn: I know, (Captain)... I know you're lonely without your dad...
Vyrn: It isn't just that? Are you mad that he left you here by yourself?
Vyrn: Yeah, I get that. It's his fault you're lonely. You got a right to be angry.
Vyrn: The more you care about someone, the madder they can make you, huh?
Yeah... Yeah.
Vyrn: And you're mad at yourself for feelin' that way... I get it, (Captain). I really do. I'm your partner, so I know where you're comin' from!
Vyrn wipes away the tears that come rolling down (Captain)'s cheeks. There seems to be no end to them.
Ladiva: Oh, Captain...
Phoebe: Ah!
Unconsciously Ladiva moves forward to comfort the young captain, but before she can close the distance she is enveloped in a white light.
Ladiva: What's happening?
The forest, (Captain), and Vyrn melt away, and Ladiva opens her eyes in her own bed aboard the Grandcypher.
Ladiva: (Captain) must have woken up.
Ladiva: ...
Ladiva: I...
A tear rolls down Ladiva's cheek as she thinks of the pain casting its shadow over (Captain)'s heart.

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 4: Maze Green - Episode 4

Unsure how to comfort the captain, Ladiva takes her Lignoid to the forest to punch out her frustrations and ask herself some tough questions: What is love, really? Is hers strong enough?

It is late at night. Newly awoken from (Captain)'s dream of the past, Ladiva gets out of bed.
She hefts the Lignoid over her shoulder and trudges out of her room.
Ladiva: So it was loneliness dragging the captain down... The loneliness of missing an absent father.
Ladiva: That, and the small but weighty resentment at being abandoned.
Ladiva: In theory, I understand. That pain has to weigh heavily on (Captain).
Ladiva disembarks and marches into the deeper darkness of the forest. She slams the Lignoid into the soft loam.
Ladiva: But!
Ladiva: How can I ease the pain (Captain) is feeling?
Ladiva: My parents are gone!
Ladiva: I know how it feels to lose your parents...
Ladiva: But I really can't imagine how angry I would be if I knew they were still out there somewhere, just not with me!
Ladiva shouts out her helpless frustration as she pummels the Lignoid.
Ladiva: If I don't! Understand!
Ladiva: Then what!
Ladiva: Can I say! To the captain!
Ladiva: Does (Captain) need a hug?
Ladiva: Should I simply stay by the captain's side for support?
Ladiva: It's just not enough!
Ladiva: Empty platitudes... are not real love!
Ladiva: What can I tell the captain? What can I do?
Ladiva: Think, Ladiva! Is the love in your heart real? Do you have it in you?
Ladiva: Hrraaahhh!
Ladiva trains with this Lignoid in order to face herself and emerge a better person. Never has she thrown herself into that training with more fervor than tonight.

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 4: Maze Green - Episode 4: Scene 2

Heedless of the rain beating down on her, Ladiva throws herself into her training, but even she has her physical limits. Just as she is reaching them, Hazen appears, extending an umbrella to shield her from the elements.

Ladiva is lost in the contest of fists against unyielding wood.
Ladiva: Pant... Pant...
But as her punishing drills continue in the cold, driving rain, even her legendary stamina finally runs out.
Ladiva: Captain! I...
A strong hand holds out an umbrella.
Ladiva: Huh?
Hazen: Ladiva, you'll make yourself ill at this rate.
The priest of the wind god smiles gently at Ladiva, whose distress is as deep as her capacity for love.
The rain shows no sign of ceasing, but beneath Hazen's umbrella is one small island of shelter.

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 5: Melancholy Blue - Episode 1

Under the solemn seal of confession, Hazen listens to Ladiva's worries. She fears that she cannot fully understand (Captain)'s sadness and therefore cannot offer the comfort the captain needs. Hazen advises that she must forgive herself for not understanding, as no one can fully understand another person. Ladiva realizes she had forgotten that the first step to loving others is to take care of oneself.

Ladiva takes to the nighttime forest to vent her frustrations and search her soul for an answer to (Captain)'s troubles.
Hazen finds her torturing herself.
Ladiva: Hazen...
Hazen: I heard you out in the corridor. I couldn't imagine where you were going with that Lignoid at this hour, so I followed.
Hazen: I can't say I approve of you risking your health this way.
Any version of Feather is a crew member

Hazen: I doubt even Feather overdoes it to this degree.
Hazen: That said, I'm certain there's a reason you're this upset.
Hazen: Tell me what troubles you. Let me shoulder your burden, just as you do for all the young people on the crew.
Ladiva: Huff... Huff...
Ladiva: Thank you... Hazen. I'm feeling a little calmer.
Ladiva: But... I can't tell you what's bothering me without revealing something I know the captain wants to keep secret.
Hazen: I see... In that case, I am the one best suited to hear you out.
Hazen: As a priest, I have sworn a solemn oath never to betray the confidence of those who confess to me.
Ladiva: Well... It's true that I can't seem to find a solution on my own.
Ladiva: Keeping it to myself probably isn't the best way to express my love.
Ladiva explains the feelings of anger and abandonment plaguing (Captain).
Ladiva: I just wish there was something I could do. Some way I could ease that pain and get our old, happy captain back.
Ladiva: But if we don't know each other's minds, we'll be skydoms apart, even if we're standing side by side.
Hazen: You believe you have to know everything about a person in order to be close to them?
Ladiva: How else can I know the best way to comfort them?
Hazen: I see. Your kindness is born of love. I don't fault your desire to render solace.
Hazen: However, the truth is that it is impossible to fully know another person.
Ladiva: Impossible? I suppose it is arrogant to think I could understand everything about someone.
Hazen: Precisely. At times people struggle even to understand themselves.
Hazen: They wound one another or misunderstand each other.
Hazen: Which is why it is so important to foster the impulse to care for our fellows. Alone, every one of us is weak and fallible.
Ladiva: Caring for our fellows... That's love.
Hazen: It is. Love, too, is recognizing and accepting that there are parts of our loved ones we cannot understand.
Hazen: Ladiva, your love has allowed you to accept all kinds of people, in all manner of circumstances, has it not?
Hazen: You must turn that acceptance inward and forgive yourself your inability to understand (Captain)'s feelings.
Ladiva: I have to forgive myself?
Ladiva: You're right. Taking care of yourself is the foundation of love.
Ladiva: I told myself I was sad because I couldn't understand the captain, but I was actually doubting the depths of my own love...
Ladiva: It was just an excuse to avoid tackling the captain's problem head-on. I was running away.
Ladiva: That's no way for a self-proclaimed Love Guru to act.
Hazen: At the heart of things, we are all lost children. We struggle to know what is good and just.
Hazen: The pain you feel comes from your belief in love. You are the genuine article, Ladiva, and I am proud to call you my crewmate.
Ladiva: Haha... Hearing such praise from you makes me feel like I grew up all right after all.
Ladiva: And a proper grown-up has to face her problems head-on.
Ladiva: She has to be genuine... and do it with love!

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 5: Melancholy Blue - Episode 2

Phoebe reproaches herself for hurting Ladiva by showing her (Captain)'s dream. She learns from Herja about an herb on the island they're visiting which is used to make tonics. The herb is sold out in town, so Morphe and Phoebe decide to find where it grows wild in order to make an herbal tea which will restore Ladiva and (Captain)'s spirits.

Phoebe: Siiigh...
The crew members currently on the Grandcypher are having breakfast. Phoebe sits at a corner table, mired in melancholy.
Phoebe: (We found out what was making (Captain) so sad, but...)
Phoebe: (Thanks to me, Ladiva is devastated...)
Phoebe: Why do I always end up hurting people?
Morphe: Phoebe... are you okay? You've been like this since you woke up.
Morphe: Did something happen last night?
Phoebe: Yeah... I... I wanted to help perk (Captain) up... But I think I failed.
Herja: Perk (Captain) up?
Herja: Are you interested in the local herbs too?
Phoebe: Huh? What are you talking about?
Herja: Oops, sorry. I guess I misunderstood. Sorry if I startled you barging into your conversation.
Phoebe: Uh, no... That's fine.
Morphe: What was that about local herbs, Herja?
Herja: This island's climate is hospitable to a certain herb that apparently makes a great tonic.
Morphe: A tonic... So, something that makes people feel better?
Herja: Right. I was thinking of getting some for a post-training pick-me-up.
Morphe: That's a good idea! Phoebe, why don't we go buy some too?
Morphe: We can use it to make tea for (Captain) and Ladiva!
Herja: Oh! Sorry, Morphe. The fact is, I haven't tried it yet. It seems to be in high demand—when I went to buy some, it was sold out.
Morphe: Sold out! What a shame...
Herja: It really is... The shop staff said they wouldn't be restocking until after we've left the island.
Morphe: Oh...
Morphe: Thanks for telling us, Herja.
Herja: No, I'm sorry I piqued your interest only to disappoint you.
Herja: Not much of an apology, but do you want some more tea? I'll go grab the pot.
Morphe: O-oh! Okay! Thank you.
Morphe: Sigh... It really is too bad about those herbs being sold out.
Phoebe: Yeah... You make such tasty herbal tea, Morphe. I'm sure (Captain) and Ladiva would've loved it.
Morphe: I guess we can't delay the Grandcypher leaving port just for herbs though.
Phoebe: That's true...
Phoebe: Oh!
Phoebe: She said the herbs were local, right? Which means they grow wild somewhere on the island.
Morphe: Yeah, I guess so. Wait. Don't tell me—
Phoebe: Oh, I'm telling you. If we can't find them for sale, let's go pick some ourselves!
Phoebe: I'm going to put the smiles back on (Captain) and Ladiva's faces! This time, I won't fail!
Morphe: Yeah! Good idea!
Morphe: We should be done helping out our crewmates by this evening, so we can go then!
Phoebe: Okay!
Phoebe: ((Captain)... Ladiva... Hang in there!)

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 5: Melancholy Blue - Episode 3

Morphe and Phoebe prepare to leave the ship as evening falls. When Jamil learns their plan to gather herbs for (Captain)'s sake, he decides to come along. Seox, not wanting to allow a group of children to venture into the mountains alone, also accompanies them.

Lyria: Great job, (Captain)! This mission went really smoothly.
Lyria: You too, Jamil! We couldn't have done it without your help.
Jamil: I am simply pleased to be of service. All of you, please be sure to rest well tonight.
(Captain) nods and heads off, presumably to do just that.
Vyrn: Yeah... (Captain) definitely seems down.
Lyria: I don't think (Captain) slept well in the village where we stayed either.
Lyria: I think (Captain) was reading something. I saw lamplight.
Vyrn: Reading? Reading what?
Lyria: Hopefully being back on the Grandcypher will be more relaxing...
Jamil: Hopefully...
Lyria: At any rate, a cup of tea before bed would probably help! Let's put some on!
Vyrn: Yeah, good idea! And I've got a dessert with our name on it. I'll go get it!
Any version of Vanzza is a crew member

Vyrn: It's a cake Tonfa Bro baked! You can't feel too blue if you've got frosting, right?
Lyria: Jamil, you'll join us too, won't you?
Jamil: I would love to. Allow me to help set up.
Emerging onto the deck after tea with (Captain) and the others, Jamil runs into Phoebe and Morphe.
Morphe: Oh, welcome back, Jamil. How was the mission?
Jamil: It went well, thank you.
From your baggage, I assume you are headed out somewhere?
Morphe: Yes. Phoebe and I are going to gather some herbs.
Jamil: The sun is about to set. I fear the mountains would be a dangerous destination at this hour...
Phoebe: Ah, yes, but... Since your mission's finished, we'll be leaving the island tomorrow, right?
Phoebe: This is our only chance to collect those herbs!
Phoebe: They're used to make tonics, but all the shops are sold out.
Jamil: Tonics?
Morphe: Yes! We want them to make a tea for (Captain) and the others so they'll feel better!
Jamil: I see... So it's for the captain...
Jamil: In that case, please allow me to accompany you.
Jamil: Three crewmates can both defend themselves better and gather herbs faster than two.
Phoebe: Are you sure? I mean, you just came back from a mission.
Jamil: Absolutely. I was merely along to carry, and there was nothing very heavy to transport.
Phoebe: Really?
Seox: What are you all chatting about out here? It's getting cold. Go inside.
Jamil: Actually, we are about to step out.
Seox: Step out? Where? The mission's over, isn't it?
Morphe: Well, you see...
Morphe explains their plan to collect herbs for (Captain) and the others.
Seox: Hm...
Seox: (Three children going into the mountains at dusk... If they're late coming back, (Captain) will worry.)
Seox: (Talking them out of it sounds like more trouble than it's worth.)
Seox: (But if they get hurt... I don't need that on my conscience.)
Phoebe: Um... Seox? You all right there?
Seox: Fine. I'll come with you.
Seox: If you're gone long, (Captain) and Lyria will worry. Let's grab those herbs and get back here before they have the chance.
Morphe: You're coming too? Wow, with you along, we'll have nothing to worry about! Right, Phoebe?
Phoebe: Yeah... Thank you, Seox. You too, Jamil.
Jamil: Not at all... I, too, want to see the captain's spirits restored.
Jamil: Phoebe, Morphe, Seox. Let us procure those herbs and return safely.
Morphe & Phoebe: Okay!
Seox: Ugh...
Phoebe: You too, Seox!
Seox: Wha?
Phoebe: Like this! "Yeeeah!"
Seox: No, I—
Morphe: Come on, Seox! "Yeeeah!"
Seox: ...
...
Yeah.
The small party stops off in town to ask where the herb can be found.
They learn it is produced by a climbing plant which grows along the slopes, and set out to find some.
Morphe: Hmm... Doesn't look like there's any growing on this slope...
Jamil: Apparently it likes to grow over bare stone surfaces... Most of the slopes we've seen are all exposed soil though.
Seox: Phoebe. You all right? Watch your footing—the ground's muddy from yesterday's rain.
Phoebe: O-okay! It's a little tough to walk on, but I can do it!
The group presses further into the mountains, searching for the slopes the herb favors.
The sun sets, leaving them to navigate the narrow paths by their lantern's flickering light.
Jamil: I'm glad I thought to bring this lantern. Don't worry—there's ample oil left.
Seox: We only have the one though. Watch you don't wander too far. It'd be hard to find you again.
Morphe: We'll be careful!
Phoebe: ...
Seox: I said stay close, not underfoot. Are you afraid of the dark?
Phoebe: No... Nighttime darkness doesn't scare me. After all, I have the three of you with me.
Phoebe: I'm scared of... being alone.
Phoebe: When it's dark, the memories come back... Of my time alone.
Morphe: Phoebe...
Jamil: A fear of solitude... Yes. It is a fearful thing to be alone.
Jamil: It is only now that I spend my days surrounded by my crewmates that I truly understand how frightening it is.
Seox: Mm... True.
Unconsciously, these four souls so well acquainted with loneliness move closer to one another in the dark.
Seox: ...!
Jamil!
Jamil: I know!
Phoebe! Morphe! Get behind me. Monsters approach.
Morphe: O-okay!
Phoebe: We have to get rid of them and find those herbs!
Seox: Yeah... And you need to be in one piece to do it. Keep your guard up!

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 5: Melancholy Blue - Episode 4

While Phoebe and the others are out looking for herbs, Syr looks for the twins, and Lyria and Vyrn seek Jamil. Keehar and Herja reveal that they saw the trio disembark with Seox. Herja realizes they may have gone looking for the tonic herbs. Ladiva, Herja, Hazen, and Keehar decide to follow them into the mountains.

While Phoebe and the others are out herb hunting, Syr is looking for them back on the ship.
Syr: Mooorpheee! Phoeeebeee! Where are yooou?
Sig: Hey, what's with all the yelling, Syr?
Syr: Hi, Sig! Have you seen Morphe and Phoebe?
Any version of Rosine is a crew member

Syr: I got some senbei from Rosine, and I wanted to share with them!
Sig: Sorry, but I haven't seen them today. Have you, Herja?
Herja: Not since breakfast. We talked about herbs.
Syr: Ah, that's right. Morphe's really good at making herbal tea, isn't he?
Syr: Huh... I wonder where they got to.
Ladiva: Oh? What's the big secret, you three?
Syr: Ladiva! Hazen!
Hazen: Did something happen?
Syr: Well...
Vyrn: Yo, you guys! Have you seen Jamil?
Lyria: We lost track of him a little while ago...
Syr: Huh? Jamil's missing too?
Ladiva: Well, it's a big ship. It can be easy to miss each other...
Syr: That's true... I guess snack time can wait till tomorrow.
Keehar: Hm? Quite the little gathering we have out here. Is something the matter?
Lyria: Hello, Keehar. We were just looking for Jamil.
Syr: And I was looking for Morphe and Phoebe.
Keehar: Oh? I saw the three of them leave earlier with Seox.
Sig: So they're not even onboard! No wonder you couldn't find them.
Syr: But it's pitch-black out. Shouldn't they be back by now?
Keehar: It is rather late for them not to have returned. All the shops in town will have closed by now.
Keehar: I doubt monsters could cause the four of them much trouble, but perhaps something else has delayed them?
Herja: Ah!
Sig: What is it, Herja?
Herja: This morning I told Phoebe and Morphe about an herb that grows on this island.
Herja: I told them it's used to make tonics and that it was sold out at all the nearby shops.
Lyria: Tonics?
Herja: Yes. Morphe and Phoebe wanted to make an herbal tea with it for (Captain) and all of you.
Herja: They were really disappointed... You don't think... they went into the mountains to find the herbs themselves, do you?
Ladiva: Oh no! Those mountains are full of monsters... And it rained yesterday, so the cliffs will be slippery besides.
Keehar: Mm... They have Jamil and Seox with them, so I'm sure there's nothing to fear, but...
Keehar: Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to go looking for them ourselves.
Vyrn: Yeah! Let's gather up all the lanterns we've got and head out!
Syr: Ah! I wanna go too!
Hazen: No... Vyrn, Lyria, and Syr, could you wait here?
Syr: What! Why?
Hazen: What with the darkness and the muddy slopes, this might be a fairly grueling march.
Hazen: Think how Phoebe and the others would feel if you were injured looking for them.
Vyrn: But... We're worried about them too...
Keehar: All the more reason for you to await their return here on the ship.
Keehar: What if they return while we're out looking? We might pass each other by entirely.
Lyria: Oh, you're right! That could happen.
Keehar: When they return, they're sure to be chilled to the bone. Someone should be waiting for them with a kettle on the boil!
Lyria: Okay! You can leave it to us!
Ladiva: Hopefully we can find someone in town who saw them.
Herja: Yes, any clue as to the route they took would help. We can ask whoever we meet on the way.
Ladiva, Herja, Hazen, and Keehar head into the mountains in search of Phoebe and the others.
Herja: Well, if they kept going straight in the direction they were last seen heading, then this should be the right way...
Keehar: The air here is disturbed. I wonder if the monsters in the area have been fighting.
Hazen: I suppose just the presence of intruders has riled them up.
Ladiva: I hope Phoebe and the others are all right...
Keehar: If we want to find out, we have to keep ourselves safe as well.
Keehar: I believe we have monsters on our tail. They've been watching us very closely for an opening.
Herja: Let's pretend we don't notice them, then strike when they least expect.
Hazen: Understood!
Monster: Grrr...
Monster: Graaoooaaarr!

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 5: Melancholy Blue - Episode 4: Scene 2

Phoebe finally spots the herbs growing along the side of a cliff face. Following Jamil and Seox's directions, she climbs out to pick them. As she does, however, her handhold crumbles, and she plummets toward the ground. Ladiva arrives just in time to catch her, safe and sound.

Phoebe: Ah! Look down there! Is that it?
Phoebe leans out from the trail they are currently climbing and points along the rocky slope below.
Morphe: Oh yeah! Those thick tufts of leaves—that has to be it!
Phoebe: We finally found it! Let's go!
Seox: Wait. The rocks will be slippery from the rain.
Jamil: He's right. Wait here while I collect the plants.
Phoebe: No, if it's slippery, then I'm definitely the one for the job.
Jamil: But...
Phoebe: The only good footholds down there are small, and the lighter the person, the safer they'll be, right?
Morphe: I'll go then.
Phoebe: No, it was my idea to get these herbs in the first place. You wait here, Morphe.
Seox: Phoebe.
Phoebe: Yeah?
Seox: Like I said, it's not just the size of the footholds—the wet rock is slippery.
Seox: I'll direct you from here. Stay calm, and move exactly how I tell you to. All right?
Phoebe: Okay! Thanks, Seox.
Morphe: Be careful, Phoebe. If you put one foot wrong, you could slide all the way to the bottom in a second.
Phoebe: I know. I will.
Seox and Jamil issue directions as Phoebe slowly descends the rock face by the lantern's wavering light.
Phoebe: Okay... Where to next?
Seox: The rock below and to your right. It's darker than the stone around it. Do you see it?
Phoebe: Yes! Ooo-kay!
Jamil: Just above the wider part of that rock, there should be a good fingerhold. Can you grab it?
Phoebe: Yeah, I think... I think so!
Morphe: You can do it, Phoebe!
One hand and foot at a time, Phoebe makes her way toward the herbs. At last, she reaches out and touches one.
Seox: Good!
Phoebe: Phew! Now I just need to pull it out... Nnh...
The rock-climbing herbs' hardy roots are sunk deep into the cliff face, and Phoebe has to pit her full strength against them.
Jamil: Phoebe, look out! Your handhold—
Phoebe: Huh?
Seox: Damn it!
The herb's roots pull free, taking a chunk of rain-softened soil with them and destabilizing the surrounding stones.
Morphe: Phoebe!
Phoebe: Yeek!
Phoebe: Aaahhh!
Seox: Hngh!
Seox tenses to throw himself after Phoebe as she tumbles down the mountainside.
Jamil: Seox!
Seox: What!
Jamil holds his fellow assassin back. He points downward.
Phoebe: Nngh...
???: Phoebe! Are you all right!
Phoebe: Ah!
Morphe: Ladiva!
Ladiva: You were out so late, we all came looking for you.
Herja: Groan...
I thought my heart was going to stop. I didn't expect to find you literally falling off a cliff!
Ladiva: That was a close call! Thank goodness I was here to catch you. All that training was worth it!
Phoebe: Ladiva...
Ladiva: Phoebe.
Ladiva: Coming to get these herbs was a beautiful, loving gesture.
Ladiva: But if you want to love others, you have to take care of yourself first!
Ladiva: Not that I'm one to talk. Hazen had to lecture me for doing tackle drills in the rain.
Phoebe: Ah...
Phoebe: I'm sorry... for doing something so dangerous...
Ladiva: I'm just so relieved you're all right, Phoebe!
Ladiva wraps Phoebe in a warm bear-hug.
Phoebe throws her arms around the formidable duelist and hugs her back every bit as fiercely.

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 6: Predawn Purple - Episode 1

The group heads back to the Grandcypher. Phoebe and Morphe get to make their herbal tea for Ladiva and (Captain), and Ladiva tells them it is the thought that makes her the happiest. Mary also comforts Phoebe, offering her understanding of Phoebe's sometimes self-destructive impulse to make up for past mistakes.

Missing friends found, the entire party heads home.
Lyria spots them from the deck of the Grandcypher and cries out worriedly when she sees Ladiva carrying Phoebe on her back.
Lyria: Ahhh, Phoebe, you're covered in mud! Are you hurt?
Phoebe: Oh, um... I took a bit of a spill off a cliff. And I sprained my ankle.
Lyria: A c-cliff!
Lyria: Oh, Phoebe... I'm so glad you're... well, that you're not seriously injured, at least...
Suframare: Welcome back, everyone! Elmott is heating bathwater for you all.
Suframare: We've got tea ready, so have some to warm your bones before you go wash up.
Herja: That's just what I need. I'm very much obliged!
Mary: That oughta do it! But you'd better lay off this ankle for a while, okay?
Phoebe: Okay, I'll be careful. Thanks, Mary.
Ladiva: At least you didn't break anything!
Phoebe: Um, Ladiva? I'm sorry I worried you.
Phoebe: You too, Morphe, Seox, and Jamil. I must've given you quite a shock.
Seox: Don't worry about it. It was our fault for not giving you better instructions.
Jamil: Yes. I'm glad you're all right, Phoebe.
Phoebe: Thanks. But thanks to you we did get those herbs.
Morphe: Let's use it to make the most delicious herbal tea ever.
Morphe: That'll be the best way to say thank you to everyone!
Phoebe: You're right. What's important is what comes next.
Phoebe: Get ready for some amazing herbal tea, Ladiva.
Ladiva: I'm very much looking forward to it!
Ladiva: But just the fact that you two wanted to do that for me makes me happier than anything else ever could.
Ladiva: Don't forget that, okay?
Morphe: We won't.
Phoebe: Yeah.
Hazen: Ladiva, could I have a word?
Ladiva: Okay! Be right there, Hazen!
Elmott: All right, the boys' baths are all heated up! Get your tails in there!
Jamil: Thank you, Elmott. Seox, Morphe—shall we?
Seox: Hunh...
Morphe: Okay! See you later, Phoebe.
Phoebe: Sigh...
Mary: Hey, Phoebe?
Phoebe: Hm? Yes?
Mary: I know how that feels... going overboard because you want so badly to take back the past.
Phoebe: ...!
Mary: You'd do anything to make amends, and you're always on guard to avoid the same mistakes. You're desperate to show your gratitude to the people who've helped you.
Mary: You start hating yourself and feeling like there's no way anyone could ever care about you.
Phoebe: Yeah...
Phoebe: Yeah!
Mary: Thought so. I know exactly where you're coming from.
Mary: But... Y'know what? I've realized something recently.
Mary: Thinking that way was a real slap in the face to the people kind enough to actually care about me.
Mary: I mean, it always feels bad when people rag on something you love, doesn't it?
Mary gives Phoebe's hair a vigorous mussing to cover a sudden fit of self-consciousness.
Phoebe: Wah! Mary! What're you doing!
Mary: You're a good kid, Phoebe! You're such a good kid!
Phoebe: Agh, geez, Mary! You're making a mess of my hair!
Suframare: Mary! Phoebe! Your tea's ready!
Lennah is a crew member

Suframare: Lennah made this tea herself! It has a lovely floral aroma. Here, warm yourselves up.
Mary: Thank you, Suframare! Here you go, Phoebe.
Phoebe: Thanks, Mary. Mmm, it smells wonderful.
Phoebe: (I hope (Captain) will feel just like I do right now, drinking our tea.)
Phoebe: (I really hope so.)

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 6: Predawn Purple - Episode 2

Hazen notices that Ladiva was hurt catching Phoebe. He treats the injury where Phoebe won't see. When Syr drops by to check on her and ask for something to do, the two adults hide the injury, but Ladiva does have a favor to ask.

Hazen: All right, Ladiva! Show me that right arm.
Ladiva: Oh, dear. I can't seem to hide anything from you, Hazen.
Hazen: Well, I had a front-row seat to you catching Phoebe as she fell from the heavens.
Hazen: I'm sure it hurts. You hid it so as not to worry Phoebe, didn't you?
Hazen: Now let's patch you up. You don't want her to find out, do you?
Ladiva: Haha, I suppose you're right. I'm counting on you, Doctor Hazen!
Hazen summons his healing powers and focuses on Ladiva's injured arm.
Hazen: That should do it. You're not quite at one hundred percent though. The rest is up to your own recuperative powers.
Ladiva: Thank you. It already feels much better!
Hazen: I'm glad to hear it. And so is the god of wind, I'm sure.
Ladiva: You know, when I caught her...
Ladiva: I realized she was just like me. The thought of losing love had us both so frantic that we nearly threw away the love we had.
Hazen: But neither of you have lost it. That's the most important thing.
Hazen: You two have so much love in your hearts it can drive you to act rashly... From now on, it's important that you choose the right way to show it.
Ladiva: Yes... You're absolutely right.
Ladiva: Who could that be? Come in—it's open!
Syr: It's me! I heard you all were back and... Are you okay? You're not hurt, are you?
Ladiva: No! Look at me—I'm fit as a fiddle!
Hazen: Haha...
Syr: Aaahhh, what a relief! You're all so strong, I knew you could take care of yourselves, but even so... I worried.
Syr: Even though I just ran into Morphe, Seox, and Jamil in the corridor, and they all said they were fine.
Ladiva: Sorry for worrying you, Syr.
Syr: Nothing to apologize for! Everyone's fine!
Syr: Anyway, do you need anything?
Syr: I stayed on watch while you were gone, and I helped make tea and heat up the baths, but now I'm out of things to do.
Hazen: Hmm... What do you think, Ladiva? Is there anything left?
Ladiva: Hmm... Let me see...
Ladiva: Oh!
Syr: What is it? You got something?
Ladiva: Yes! There is a favor I'd like to ask you...
Ladiva leans forward to whisper into Syr's ear.
Syr: Oh, you bet! Not a problem! Just sit tight.
Ladiva: Thank you so much, Syr!
Hazen: Well? What did you ask him for?
Ladiva: Haha. It's a secret! Just wait and see.
Hazen: Hmmm?

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 6: Predawn Purple - Episode 3

(Captain) emerges from quarters to see what all the hubbub is, but Vyrn tries to hide the truth to keep the captain from worrying. Keehar warns them that being too careful of loved ones' feelings can unintentionally create distance between them. Later, (Captain) apologizes to Phoebe for hiding things, and Phoebe apologizes for spying on the captain's dreams. They make a promise not to keep secrets anymore.

The captain has been resting since returning to the ship.
(Captain)'s contemplation of the letter from Estalucia is interrupted by footsteps hurrying to and fro in the corridor.
When the captain leans out the door for a look, Vyrn flutters over.
Vyrn: Oh, (Captain)! Sorry we've been making so much noise.
Vyrn: It's no big deal though. Nothing to worry about!
Vyrn: Aw, geez... Why do you look so suspicious? Everybody's fine! Nothing happened!
  1. Why are you leaving me out? That's mean...
  2. Keeping secrets from the captain, eh?

Choose: Why are you leaving me out? That's mean...
Vyrn: What! That's not what I was doin'!
Vyrn: I just... don't wantcha to worry, that's all.
Vyrn: And nothing you should worry about has happened, so everything's fine, you hear me!

Choose: Keeping secrets from the captain, eh?
Vyrn: Urgh! W-well...
Vyrn: Listen, uh... It's kind of a long story, but everybody had their reasons!
Vyrn: Maybe you should hear it from the horses' mouths though.
Vyrn: So, uh, just hang tight a minute, okay?
Continue 1
(Captain) is about to press the evasive little dragon for more details when they hear another set of footsteps headed in their direction.
Keehar: Oh, here you are, (Captain)!
Vyrn: Gramps! You need somethin'?
Keehar: Ha-ha! I was starting to feel lonesome. What do you say, (Captain)? Do you have an ear to lend to this old man's tales of the glory days?
Vyrn: Lookin' for a stroll down memory lane? Got another adventure story for us?
Keehar: An adventure indeed! And a thorny one at that!
Vyrn: Wow, so there are some missions so tough even you'll admit they're rough?
Keehar: Ha-ha! You bet your bottom rupie there are! And the title of this epic tale of heroism is—Child-Rearing.
Vyrn: Child-rearing? You mean raising Selfira?
Keehar: That's right. As you know, Selfira is the granddaughter of one of my fellow adventurers, a brave member of our legendary minstrel crew.
Keehar: But after she died, and Selfira's parents, too, fell to illness, Selfira had no one left in the skies upon whom to depend.
Vyrn: And that's when you took Selfira in and raised her yourself, even though you're not blood relatives, right?
Vyrn: Not just anyone would do that, Gramps! You really are something. Don't you think, (Captain)?
Keehar: Ha-ha! Such praise! But you know, I wasn't such a good guardian at the start.
Keehar: When Selfira's spirits were low, I would try to lift them with a tale of adventure, then be scolded that she was in no mood for such things.
Keehar: Sometimes she would push me away, telling me I wasn't her real grandfather.
Vyrn: Selfira did that? But you guys always seem to get along so well!
Keehar: Indeed we do, now. But you see, Selfira was frightened.
Keehar: Frightened that I would be unable to understand the pain she carried inside.
Keehar: I feared the selfsame thing—that I would be unable to offer the understanding she needed.
Vyrn: That you wouldn't understand, huh? Well... I mean, you're two different people.
Keehar: Quite so. Which is why confiding in others is no simple thing.
Keehar: We spent a great deal of time together before Selfira was able to open up to me.
Keehar: Revealing one's wounds to another requires time, and the bonds of trust that only time can build.
Vyrn: Time and trust, huh?
Vyrn: We've... We've been together forever...
Vyrn: Does that mean... it's trust we're missing?
(Captain) stares at Vyrn—loyal partner and companion since both of their earliest memories.
Vyrn: Sigh...
Keehar: It would seem my tale has struck a chord with the two of you.
Keehar: Ha-ha, put that expression away, (Captain).
Keehar: We are all quite aware of your resolve not to worry anyone else on your account.
Keehar: But that in itself makes us more determined to care for you.
Keehar: There are times when that mutual consideration for one another's feelings can have the reverse effect—it can create distance neither party ever intended.
Keehar: That's when it might be best to gather your courage and let it all out into the light.
Keehar: Come now! The trust you need to overcome your fear slumbers within that heroic heart.
(Captain)'s jaw sets. The captain turns to Vyrn and clasps his tiny paw.
Vyrn: (Captain)...
Between captain and dragon, after the long years they have spent together, that simple gesture is enough.
Keehar: ...
Keehar: Oho? Hello there, Phoebe and Morphe.
Morphe: Hello, Keehar. (Captain)? Could we borrow you for a minute?
Phoebe: Um, (Captain)? I want to apologize...
Vyrn: Apologize? What for? 'Cause you went off into the mountains alone?
Phoebe: No, not that. I want to apologize for the reason I went.
Phoebe: You see... I... I've been worried because you seemed so down, (Captain). Really worried.
Phoebe: I ended up spying on your dreams to find out why...
Seeing the shock on (Captain)'s face, Phoebe hangs her head.
Phoebe: I'm sorry! You wanted to keep it a secret and I... I had no right!
(Captain) reaches out toward her.
Phoebe: ...!
  1. I'm sorry for keeping secrets.

Choose: I'm sorry for keeping secrets.
Phoebe: (Captain)...
(Captain) apologizes, accepting at least partial responsibility for Phoebe's actions.
Morphe: (Captain)...
Phoebe: (Captain)? Would you... uh... promise me something?
Phoebe: Maybe hiding the reason why you were sad wasn't the best thing for you to do...
Phoebe: But what I did, looking into your dreams without permission, going off into the mountains and getting myself hurt... that was way worse.
Phoebe: So do you think... maybe... we could promise not to keep any more secrets from each other?
Phoebe hesitantly extends her pinky. (Captain) locks a pinky around hers to seal the deal.
Phoebe: Cross my heart and hope to fly, all across the clear blue sky. Break my word? I wouldn't dare—
Phoebe: That's what it means to pinky swear!

No Rain, No Rainbow - Chapter 6: Predawn Purple - Episode 4

Syr delivers a letter to (Captain) from Ladiva. In it, Ladiva asks (Captain)'s forgiveness and requests the captain's presence on deck the next morning. A masked Ladiva awaits when (Captain) steps on deck at dawn. Ladiva invites (Captain) to spar with her to let out all the frustration the captain has been keeping inside. The captain accepts.

Syr: (Captain)! Got a delivery for yooou!
Any version of Melissabelle is a crew member

Syr: Hehe! I feel like Bianco!
Morphe: A delivery?
Vyrn: What is it? A letter?
Syr: Yeah! It's from Ladiva. I gave her some of my stationery!
(Captain) unfolds the sheet of charmingly decorated stationery and reads the message written in Ladiva's beautiful handwriting.
Ladiva: Dear (Captain),
Before anything else, I have three things to apologize for.
Ladiva: First, I'm sorry it took me so long to realize you were feeling sad.
Ladiva: Second, I should never have entered your dream without permission to find out why.
Ladiva: Lastly, I'm sorry that there's probably nothing I can do to fix it.
Ladiva: I don't think I can ever fully understand how you're feeling, or why.
Ladiva: So I may make mistakes.
Ladiva: But I still want to believe that my impulse to comfort you comes from love.
Ladiva: If you, too, can believe it despite the mistakes I've made, then meet me on deck tomorrow at daybreak.
Ladiva: With all my love,
Ladiva
(Captain) nods. The letter is carefully folded and tucked away alongside the one from the captain's father.
The next morning, (Captain) steps out into the crisp air as the rising sun limns the deck in gold.
Ladiva: Thank you for coming, (Captain).
Ladiva: Like I said in my letter, I don't think there's any way I can banish the shadows hanging over you.
Ladiva: But when you feel all mixed up and frustrated... when you don't know what to do with those feelings... I can be here for you!
Ladiva's gentle smile broadens into a grin as she lowers her duelist's mask over her face.
  1. What's with the mask?
  2. Thanks, Ladiva.

Choose: What's with the mask?
Ladiva: This is my formal look. I was given this mask for my first tournament victory.
Ladiva: In other words, it's a crystallization of all my love, sweat, and tears. It's also a symbol of me returning to my roots to start all over again.
Ladiva: I want to show you—I'm dead serious about tackling your feelings, Captain! That's what this mask means!

Choose: Thanks, Ladiva.
Ladiva: No... (Captain), I'm the one who should be thanking you.
Ladiva: Thank you for coming out here and forgiving my immature love.
Ladiva: I see you raising your fists, ready to face me on my own terms. Thank you for that too.
Ladiva: Thank you for caring enough to let me tackle your feelings.

Ladiva's words are kind, but her gaze is clear and sharp.
Ladiva: Come on, (Captain). All those feelings you've been storing up—it's time you tackled them with everything you've got!
Ladiva: I'm here to take whatever you dish out, head-on!
(Captain) looks at Ladiva in all her loving glory and takes a deep, steadying breath.
Then (Captain) takes a ready stance and prepares for the Love Guru's ultimate tackle drills.

No Rain, No Rainbow - Ending

After a grueling sparring session, Ladiva and (Captain) exchange a fierce hug. They gather their friends and go belowdecks to eat breakfast. Morphe watches his sister interact with the crew, relieved that she'll have friends should he—Phoebe's temporary creation—eventually disappear. Ladiva tells him to come to her any time something is putting that melancholy expression on his face, and the two share an understanding smile.

Ladiva: ...!
(Captain)'s fists fly with the weight of suppressed frustration and sadness. Ladiva is there to receive every blow.
Ladiva: Haha...
Ladiva's smile as they spar brings an answering smile to (Captain)'s face.
Ladiva: Hehe... Ahahaha!
(Captain) and Ladiva's laughter rings out high and clear all around the Grandcypher.
Ladiva: (Captain)... I love you!
Ladiva's fists unfurl and she wraps (Captain) in a loving embrace. (Captain) returns the hug just as intensely.
Lyria: Those voices just now...
Lyria: Oh, (Captain)! Ladiva!
Vyrn: Geez, what are you two playing at this early in the morning? More tackle drills?
Drawn by their friends' laughter, Lyria and Vyrn rush over.
Lyria: (Captain)... You look... refreshed, somehow.
Lyria: I'm glad... You haven't been quite your usual, positive self lately.
(Captain) smiles, somewhat chagrined to see how relieved Lyria is, and thanks her for her concern.
Lyria: Don't worry about it! Everyone gets a little gloomy sometimes.
Lyria: I just have to work harder so that you can lean on me when the things on your mind are weighing you down.
Lyria: Maybe what I need is some tackle drills! What do you think, Ladiva?
Ladiva: Hmm, maybe! But first...
Ladiva: Let's have ourselves a hearty breakfast!
(Captain) and the others call out to the rest of the crew and head to the subgalley for breakfast.
Suframare: Um... Where are the butter knives?
Morphe: Right here! Four enough?
Suframare: Ah, thank you! Yes, that should be enough.
Vyrn: Whoo! There's apple jam! Can we have some, Ladiva?
Ladiva: Of course!
There! These pancakes are done.
Jamil: Allow me to plate them.
Ladiva: Thank you! I'll start on the next batch.
Seox: Should I put these mats out?
Phoebe: Oh, Seox, that's the wrong way 'round! They should face this way.
Seox: There's a right way for it to face? What a hassle...
Phoebe: The food looks best this way! Presentation is just as important as flavor! Right, Ladiva?
Ladiva: Hehe, you're absolutely right!
Seox: I don't get it...
Hazen: Haha, let's just take their word for it, Seox.
Keehar: I brought some milk from the main galley! Who wants some?
Sig: Oh, can I get a glass?
Lyria: Me too, please! I'll get everybody cups.
Elmott: Hey, hey, don't try to carry the whole stack, Lyria. You'll drop 'em and they'll break.
Syr: I'll help you carry, Lyria!
Lyria: Thank you, Syr.
Mary: Pass me a cup! (Captain), wanna help me pour?
Morphe: Oh, (Captain), we have herbal tea too! These herbs are supposed to perk you up!
Morphe: Herja, you should have some too! We used that local herb you told us about!
Herja: I'll definitely take you up on that! Thank you, Morphe.
Seated in the secondary galley, surrounded by friends, (Captain) raises a cup of Morphe's herbal tea.
Phoebe: It's hot, so blow on it first.
Phoebe: You like it? Phew. Good.
Morphe watches his sister fondly as the relief on her face turns into a bashful smile.
Morphe: (I feel like Phoebe's finally opening up to our crewmates. I'm so glad.)
Morphe and Phoebe (Event) is a crew member

Morphe: (When Phoebe first made me...)
Morphe: (She didn't mean for me to last all that long.)
Morphe: (So I may not always be here by her side.)

Morphe: (I'm... just an artificial creation, so I'm probably not as durable as other people...)
Morphe: (And I may not always be here by Phoebe's side.)

Morphe: (I've always been worried that if I vanished, I'd be leaving Phoebe all alone again. But now... I'm sure she'll be all right.)
Morphe: (I know she will.)
Ladiva: Morphe?
Morphe: Ah... I was just thinking how great it is that Phoebe's been able to make friends on the crew.
Morphe: I'm really happy I've had the chance to be a part of it myself.
Ladiva: So am I!
Ladiva: I'm so lucky I had the chance to become friends with you and Phoebe and everyone else!
Ladiva: So listen, Morphe... If something's bothering you enough to put that melancholy smile on your face... come cry on my shoulder.
Ladiva: Okay?
Morphe: ...
Okay!
Morphe and Ladiva exchange a smile, then join their friends around the table.
On a journey as long as theirs, these skyfarers are bound to grapple with sadness and fall prey at times to darker thoughts.
But every day, the mutual love and trust they've built give them the strength to raise their gazes to the horizon and push onward.
The End
