When the Black Knight leaves Orchid in Mephorash to journey alone, Orchid befriends a golem named Lloyd. Orchis awakes and begins restoring Erste with Adam, leaving Orchid feeling useless. After learning that Akasha is causing problems, Orchid convinces Adam and Orchis to put Akasha inside Lloyd and allow the two to travel while guarding each other.

Orchid: Apollo...

Black Knight: I'm sorry, but... there's just something I have to do. You understand, don't you?

Orchid: Yes. Take care, Apollo...

Orchid: ...

Black Knight: What is it, Orchid?

Orchid: I really want to be with you.
I want to go with you...

Black Knight: Orchid...

Orchid: But I understand. You have things you have to do. And I can't go with you...

Black Knight: I'm sorry, Orchid. I guess I'm always testing your patience...

Orchid: That's not true. It's okay. You don't need to be sad.

Orchid: And I don't want to get in your way... So I'll wait for you. I'll wait for you to come back.

Black Knight: Yeah... And I'll return. You'll see.

Orchid: Okay.

Black Knight: Here, Orchid. I'll give you this.

Black Knight: Just knowing you're alive is a miracle to me. And that's the greatest gift of all.

Orchid: That makes me happy. But I want to do something to thank you...

Black Knight: Humph. If that's what you wish, then I'll just have to look forward to it when I get back.

Orchid: Look forward to it... Yes. I understand. I'll think of something by then.

Black Knight: Good. Now it's time for me to go...

As Orchid watches her leave, silent tears begin to fall gently to the ground.

After some time has passed, Orchid wanders the Palace of Elijah Chelm alone one day.

Orchid: What's in here, I wonder...

Orchid: It's so dusty. Has no one ever cleaned this place?

From androids to the amorphous, a motley assortment of golems lie strewn about the room.

Orchid: Golems...

Just as she starts to look around, she finds herself stopping in front of one of the golems.

Orchid: This one looks like Apollo... But just a little. It's all in black...

Orchid sees that something is inscribed on the golem. She peers in for a closer look.

Orchid: Lloyd? It says Lloyd right here. Is that your name?

Orchid: My name is Orchid. Nice to meet you.

From that day forward, Orchid befriends the silent golem, Lloyd, and frequently visits him at the storage facility.

Several weeks pass and one day, Orchid decides to accompany Adam on his duties.

Orchid finds herself staring off into the distance when suddenly something strange happens.

Orchid: Orchis...
Orchis! She's...

Adam: What's happened with Orchis?

Orchis, the last of the Erste Royal Family, opens her eyes after existing in nothingness for so long.

Orchis: Am I... back? This isn't a dream. But it feels unreal...

Orchid: Orchis...

Orchis: Orchid! I'm so glad to see you again, Orchid!

The moment she recognizes Orchid, Orchis hugs her lovingly.

Orchid: Orchis... Yes, I'm happy to see you too.

Orchis and Orchid embrace each other tightly, both sharing the joy of their reunion.

In the coming days, Orchis works with Adam to rebuild the Erste Kingdom.

Orchid: Orchis is amazing. She already knows the things she must do.

Orchid: But what can I do?

Orchid: Isn't there some way I can help the people who created me?

Adam: Our soldiers are fighting in vain to maintain order. Akasha has become difficult to contain.

Orchis: That's troubling... But surely we can find a place to contain such a powerful primal beast.

Adam: If there's a place away from the fearful eyes of the people, then that would be an option.

Adam: But Erste lacks such a felicitous solution...

Orchis and Adam are still discussing the problem when Orchid enters the room with a quiet determination about her.

Orchis: This golem is Lloyd?

Adam: Lloyd was an attack golem in Mephorash, specially developed with intense battle power.

Adam: It was the pride of Erste craftsmen. They combined their skills to create all the production technology required.

Adam: In other words these golems were killing machines designed for war.

Orchis: But... Orchid said she wanted to put Akasha inside that thing.

Orchid: I come here and talk to him all the time. I'm pretty sure we're friends...

Adam: It is theoretically possible to seal Akasha within Lloyd and power him that way.

Adam: However, at the same time, we would be imbuing an uninhibited killing machine with an eternal soul.

Adam: It would become a war machine capable of destroying entire islands in the blink of an eye.

Orchis: We can't possibly agree to make something so dangerous...

Orchis: Hold on a second. Orchid, are you saying you're going to leave our kingdom?

Orchis: How could you!

Orchid: But I won't let anyone see me leave. No one would even know I was gone. There would be nothing to—

Orchis: And you'd be in constant danger!

Orchis: Why are you asking this all of a sudden? You know I can't possibly let you get in harm's way!

Seeing Orchid willingly choose a life of isolation, Orchis can't help but feel anxious.

But Orchid doesn't show any doubt in her decision. Instead she gazes confidently at Orchis.

Orchid: I've always wondered what I can do to help others.

Orchid: I know I can't be the queen that Erste needs to help them rebuild.

Orchis: What?

Orchid: And I can't possibly become the Adam that helps such a queen.

Adam: ...

Orchid: I'll never be one of the Seven Luminary Knights who protect the skies. I'll never be the captain of a crew...

Orchid: And I'll never be able to fight for Erste, like Freesia...

Orchid: I'll also never be able to stand in place of those who created me. And there are so many things I don't know...

Orchid: But...
But I finally found something that only I can do.

Orchis: Orchid...

Orchid: If Akasha is a threat to you, then I'll stop it. That is something only I can do.

Orchid: I won't let it hurt anyone else...

Orchid: And this isn't all of a sudden. Everyone's always protecting me, but that's not what I want...

Orchid: I want to protect those dear to me. I want become strong. For them.

Orchid: That's why I want to go.

Orchid's eyes reflect her conviction. Her will is unwavering.

Hearing all the thoughts Orchid had kept inside her heart for so long, Orchis knows she can't stand in her way.

Orchis: You really are stubborn, Orchid.

Orchid: What?

Orchis: I'm sure though... that makes you the same as me.

Orchis: We're stubborn. Once we've made up our minds, we'll never back down. I guess it only makes sense, being sisters and all.

Orchid: You and I are... sisters?

Orchis: We haven't really been able to talk about it...

Orchis: But for a long time now, we've known each other like best friends. We're practically family.

Orchis: I mean, we were born into the same body. So I guess we might be closer than sisters.

Orchid: Family?
My... family...

Orchis: Yes. You're not alone. I'm here. Adam is here. And so is everyone else. Even Apollo.

Orchis: Never forget that. And promise me you'll come home safe. You have to promise!

Orchid: Okay. I promise.

Orchis: Remember, this is your home, Orchid!

Orchid: Yes. Thank you, Orchis.

Orchid reaches into her pocket and pulls out an object.

Orchid and a young girl are captured by a man who plans to cash in on their rare and curious features. Orchid calls Lloyd to help them escape.

Orchid: Next we'll be going to this island.

Orchid: I can't wait to see what's there...

With Lloyd by her side, Orchid continues her wandering journey to create a future where everyone can be happy...

Though this is not the only reason for her quest.

She also wishes to see the world that Apollo protected.

Everywhere she goes, she witnesses rare and fascinating things that captivate her.

She thinks of everything she sees as something that Apollo protected...

And she can't help but be filled with joy.

Orchid: Let's go, Lloyd.

Everything on her solo journey is going great.

Or so it seems...

Orchid: ...

Orchid finds herself in a land where golems are unheard of.

But a person who knows the rarity of golems captures Orchid. She is locked up in a dark cell.

Orchid: This... can't be good.

Surrounded by cold, hard walls, Orchid stands there, peering through the iron bars at the rest of the prison.

Orchid: Someone's coming.

Fearsome Man: Bein' difficult, huh? Guess I'd better teach ya a lesson!

Girl: Please, no... I just want to go home...

Fearsome Man: Well, ya can't! Yer mine, ya hear?

Suddenly a man and a small girl appear through the doorway. As he yells the man violently shoves the girl into a cell.

Fearsome Man: Get in there! And quit yer cryin'! No one's gonna want you with all that blubberin'!

Girl: No! Let me out! I'm so scared... Please!

Orchid: She's... yours?

Fearsome Man: What? Yeah, ya heard me right! She's mine and so are you! And I'm gonna sell ya to the highest bidder at the show!

Fearsome Man: A talkin' doll and a sparkly-eyed girl... I'm gonna make a fortune!

Orchid: A show? But I can't do anything interesting...

Fearsome Man: Huh? You ain't gotta do nothin'! Just keep yer trap shut so I can sell ya off!

Orchid: ...

Fearsome Man: Man, yer creepy. Just stay in there and keep yer mouth shut 'til nighttime!

Girl: Sniffle... Sob...
Daddy... Daddy, I'm scared! Daddy!

Girl: Sniffle... Aren't you scared too?

Orchid: No. I know much scarier things than this.

Girl: Huh?

Orchid: Never mind. Now, do you want to get out of here?

Girl: You mean, you know how to escape? Sniffle... How?

Orchid: It's easy. Just stay quiet for a second.

Girl: ...?

Orchid: Lloyd...

Following Orchid's command, Lloyd appears from out of the darkness.

Girl: Aah!

Orchid: Please stay quiet...

Girl: Aaahhh! Stay back!

Fearsome Man: Hey! Is that the whiny brat from earlier? What a pain in the neck...

Fearsome Man: What's this!

Fearsome Man: Who are you? And how'd you get in here?

Orchid: He's been with me the whole time. So... he came in through the front door, I guess.

Fearsome Man: You watch yer mouth, freak! And you, just what are ya doin' in here?

Girl: Eep... You're scaring me! You're scaring me!

Fearsome Man: Hey! Someone get over here! We've got an intruder! I'm gonna need backup for this one!

Orchid: If you're going to cause a fuss, then I'll just have to deal with you.

Orchid: We'll get you out of our way in a flash... and make our escape in a cinch.

Orchid: Time to go, Lloyd...

Innocent Doll: Scene 2

Orchid helps the young girl return home, but monsters soon catch up with them.

Orchid: If we've made it this far, we must be safe.

Orchid: I had really wanted to sneak out quietly and see more of this place. But oh well...

Orchid: Still I think... that was the most exciting thing we've done in a while.

Girl: You're so amazing...

Orchid: You think I'm amazing? That was nothing. Lloyd's the tough one here.

Girl: You and Lloyd... You have my thanks.

Orchid: Your eye is so sparkly and beautiful. Like a gemstone...

Girl: Well...

Girl: It's kinda weird. That's why scary people try to take me away.

Orchid: You think your eye is weird? No. It's beautiful.

Orchid: Look at this.

Orchid reveals the joints in her legs.

Orchid: I'm the only weird one here. I'm not even human. That's weird.

Girl: Wow! You really are a doll! That's amazing!

Orchid: Amazing? How is that?

Girl: I have dolls back at home, but none of them can talk.

Becoming fast friends, Orchid and the girl chat away as they head toward the girl's home.

Girl's Father: Are you okay? What happened? I'm so glad you're not hurt!

Girl: I'm fine. And it's all thanks to this girl.

Girl's Father: We owe you a great debt! Oh thank you, thank you!

Orchid watches as the father and daughter happily reunite.

Orchid: ...

But with the dawning of each new day, Orchid finds herself missing the Black Knight more and more.

Orchid: I'm glad you're back together again.
Well, see you around...

Girl's Father: Wait a second! Won't you let us do something to thank you?

Girl: Yeah, come play with me!

Girl's Father: We might not have much, but we have to do something to—

Orchid: No, it's okay. Your gracious words are more than enough. I wouldn't want to put you in danger.

Girl's Father: Danger?

Monster: Grr...

Girl's Father: Eek!

Orchid: Too late...

Girl's Father: Wh-what is going on here?

Orchid: When I summon Lloyd, he stands there for a while. Before long something bad always comes...

Orchid and Lloyd leave after defeating the monsters. While Orchid is reflecting on her memories with the Black Knight, (Captain), and the crew, she senses that Orchis is in danger from Freesia and departs the island to find her.

Orchid: That's all of them for now. You can come back out.

Girl's Father: Just... who are you?
And why are you—

Orchid: My name is Orchid. This is the path I chose, and this my role within it.

Orchid: More importantly, I'm glad you're safe.

Girl's Father: But...

Orchid: I have to go now.

Orchid: Lyria, Io, (Captain)... I wonder how they're doing.

Orchid: When we were together, every day was an adventure.

Orchid's personality first began to emerge during her travels with the Black Knight.

And she strived to grow ever stronger after meeting the crew in Lumacie.

Orchid: I remember being so happy that they all called me their friend.

Orchid: I wonder if I'll ever see them again...

Orchid: That would be nice...

Several months have passed since Orchid began her adventures with Lloyd.

Battles, loneliness, and her sense of purpose have become her life.

And on every island she's visited, she's made it a point to find a place to stand and take it all in.

Orchid is unable to forget her inability to protect Orchis and Lloyd during the invasion of the Holy Erste Empire. Though (Captain) and crew eventually returned Lloyd to Orchid, she remains dejected. A surprise visit from the golem researcher Alspia and her colleague reveals that Lloyd may never be as powerful as he once was now that Akasha has been removed from him, causing Orchid to realize that she has to be stronger herself without relying on others.

The Holy Erste Empire's invasion into the Erste Kingdom was a swift, ruthless endeavor.

Zwei: Is that all? And you call yourself the original!

Orchid: ...!

Orchid: Ugh...

Orchis: Orchid! Stop! Don't move!

Zwei: Haha... Finally... I finally have it...

Zwei: So this is Lloyd! Look at me, everyone! I'm Orchid!

Zwei: All that's left is to dispose of the original...

Orchid: Run, Orchis... I'm okay!

Orchis: No, you're not! I'm not going to abandon you.

Zwei: You can die with her!

The attack that would strike Orchis down was stopped by the arrival of the Black Knight.

With Freesia as her backup, they turned the tables, but the unexpected occurred when victory seemed within their grasp.

Orchid relentlessly trains day and night. After one training session, the Black Knight expresses concern, but her words fall on deaf ears. Orchid is visited again by Alspia's colleague, and the man tells her of the dagger, Parazonium, that was once used by golem researchers and how it might provide the power Orchid so desperately desires. He offers the location of the research facility that Parazonium is sealed in, as well as the opportunity to give Lloyd a new power source. Orchid agrees, and they set off for the facility.

Orchid: Hiyah!

Black Knight: Too slow!

Apollonia easily deflects Orchid's swift attack.

The pair is currently training near the royal palace per Orchid's request.

Orchid: Take this!

Orchid unleashes strike after strike, but Apollonia dodges them all without an issue.

After a few more moments, the knight pulls back and lowers her sword.

Black Knight: That's enough for today. You've shown improvement, Orchid.

Orchid: I can still keep going... I have to...

Black Knight: I commend your enthusiasm, but taking care of your body is also essential to your training...

Orchid: ...

Black Knight: ...

They spent their efforts attempting to implement combat golems like Lloyd with minds extracted from living beings.

At the start, the process proved to be far too challenging, and every one of their experiments ended in failure.

It wasn't until they discovered how to use the high-speed calculation capabilities of the dagger Parazonium that they began to see progress.

Colleague: They commanded their experimental models to fight with Parazonium, allowing the dagger to collect data from battle experience and process it.

Colleague: With such an efficient calculator at their disposal, they were able to gather enough data and fine-tune it to assemble a unit of artificial intelligence.

Colleague: They attempted to make one modeled after their notion of an ideal personality—one that could easily be inserted into a golem. They planned to mass-produce it after.

Colleague: But before they could do so, the researchers were confronted for their sin of using lives for experimentation.

Colleague: It was decided that all their research would be destroyed. Parazonium was secretly sealed somewhere as well.

Colleague: Looking into it revealed the location of the research facility where Parazonium was sealed away.

Colleague: My suggestion to you is this: use Parazonium as your weapon instead of Lloyd. Perhaps you will find the power you seek that way.

Orchid: I understand what you want me to do... But why me? You were the one who found it.

Colleague: It would be wasted on a mortal like myself, as I would not be able to control it.

Colleague: That is why I have offered it to you—a golem.

Colleague: All I ask for in return is that you share the data gathered from using the dagger.

Orchid carries Lloyd with her threads and places him in a nearby cart. With her companion secured, she follows the researcher out of the storehouse.

Orchid finds Parazonium inside the research facility, but the researcher inserts the dagger into Lloyd, giving the golem a new power source and causing him to grow violent. Orchid tries to reign Lloyd in, but the power flowing from Lloyd overwhelms her senses. Soon after, the Black Knight and Adam arrive at the facility, and the two sever the threads connecting Orchid to Lloyd. Freed from the overwhelming power, Orchid returns to her senses, then falls unconscious.

Orchid follows Alspia's colleague to the sealed off research facility, but the two are not alone.

Orchid: Hah!

They are continuously attacked on the way there by wandering monsters, but Orchid makes short work of them.

Orchid: (I can tell I'm stronger, thanks to my training with Apollo.)

Orchid: (But... it's not enough.)

Orchid: (I need to be even stronger... way more than this...)

Eventually they make it into the research facility and find the correct room deep inside.

A dagger with its blade made from a deep purple gem gleams bewitchingly from where it is enshrined.

Orchid: So that's Parazonium...

Colleague: Of that I have no doubt.

The lascivious aura of the blade lures Orchid forward, but the researcher quickly bids her to a stop.

Once Orchid finally regains consciousness, she explains the events of the research facility to Orchis, the Black Knight, and Adam. Alspia then shows up, says that her colleague disappeared after the facility incident, and drops hints that she is not the golem researcher she appears to be. Adam alludes to knowing Alspia, drawing suspicion from the rest of the group, but before the discussion can go further, a messenger brings news of golems running rampant in town.

Orchid: Nngh...

Orchid: Where...

As Orchid slowly blinks awake and takes in her surroundings, she notices the presence of several people waiting at her side.

Orchis: Orchid!

Black Knight: You've finally woken.

Orchid: Orchis... Apollo...

Orchid: Why...

Adam: We found you unconscious in one of the sealed off research facilities and brought you back to the palace.

Adam: You were in a comatose state for three days. Do you sense any irregularities in your body?

Orchid: I'm okay.

Orchid: Sorry... I didn't mean to make you all worry.

Orchis: You don't need to apologize. I'm just glad you're safe now.

Orchid, determined to set the situation right, is finally able to control Lloyd and the overwhelming power of Parazonium after remembering her true goal—to protect the people important to her. She and Lloyd set off with the Black Knight to deal with the golem threat.

Adam: Calm down and give us the details.

Erste Kingdom S.: Yes, sir!

The soldier takes a deep breath and begins to report.

Erste Kingdom S.: Several golems suddenly turned violent in town.

Erste Kingdom S.: The soldier who spotted him said he is demanding custody of Lloyd.

Orchis: If he wants Lloyd, then he's probably...

Alspia: That researcher bonehead, no doubt. Sheesh, what a pain in the neck.

Alspia: What do you wanna do? We may as well tell 'em what's going on at this rate.

Adam: It was never my intention to keep things hidden from them in the first place.

After a moment of consideration, Adam addresses the soldier.

Adam: Relay a message to all the troops currently stationed around town. If direct confrontation proves to be too dangerous, focus on evacuating the citizens.

Erste Kingdom S.: Yes, sir!

The soldier gives a quick salute and rushes out of the room.

Adam then brings his attention back to Orchid and the rest of the group.

Adam: What I'm about to say regarding Alspia should stay between us.

With a glance at the person in question, Adam begins to speak.

Adam: Under my jurisdiction, she is secretly investigating the ranks of our nation.

Adam: You see, our internal affairs remain susceptible to outside influence, even though the Holy Erste Empire has already been dealt with.

Adam: In order to secure Erste's future, any potential seeds of insurgence must be swiftly dealt with.

Adam: Which is why I've created an unofficial investigation unit to operate within our nation.

Adam: I scouted Alspia, and after confirming that she was trustworthy, offered her a position. She agreed, and here we are.

Black Knight: Hm. So that's why the guard didn't stop her.

Adam: The guard doesn't know who she really is. I only asked beforehand that Alspia be let through.

Orchid: So are you not really a golem researcher?

Alspia: Can't a gal have two jobs?

Adam: If we are to go into details, then I recruited her because she is a golem researcher.

Adam: Golems are still powerful beings, despite having lost to primal beasts before.

Adam: Many unsavory characters would stop at nothing to utilize golems for their own benefit.

Adam: A golem researcher would know best how to identify these unsavory characters and any wicked techniques they might use. That is why I sought to have Alspia help us.

Alspia: The way that guy reacted when he first saw Lloyd, I knew something fishy was up. Call it a researcher's intuition or whatever.

Alspia: I was trying to get some hard evidence before slamming down the hammer of the law, but he moved faster than I predicted.

Alspia: From what I've gathered, it seems like he was planning on taking Lloyd with him after shoving Parazonium inside.

Alspia: But that failed 'cause he ran off when Lloyd went berserk, and now I guess he's using brute force to accomplish his goal.

Black Knight: A coward who relies on others to do his dirty work. How pathetic.

Black Knight: I'll take care of him. Adam, you watch over Orchid and Orchis.

Apollonia turns for the door, but Orchid pulls her to a stop.

Orchid: Apollo. I'm coming too. This is all my fault, so...

Orchid: Let me fix this.

Black Knight: Orchid...

Black Knight: I understand how you must be feeling, but right now—

???: ...

The appearance of a large figure steals away the rest of Apollonia's words.

Black Knight: Lloyd? How did you get here?

Lloyd: ...

Orchid: Lloyd... You want to fight with me?

Lloyd: ...

For a brief moment, Lloyd appears to lower his head in a nod.

Orchid: Thank you, Lloyd.

Black Knight: Now hold on a moment. Lloyd still houses Parazonium inside his body.

Black Knight: We'll have a repeat of what happened at the research facility if you rely on his power.

Alspia: Weeell... Not necessarily. Everything would actually depend on Orchid.

Alspia: Parazonium probably spiraled out of control last time because it was overloaded by Orchid's desire for strength.

Orchid: So if I...

Orchid closes her eyes.

Orchid: (I want to be stronger... That hasn't changed.)

Orchid: (But Apollo's words helped me realize that recklessly seeking power won't help me protect the people I care about.)

Orchid: I won't let myself be manipulated by power again.

Orchid: I know now what's important. I'll protect the home that Orchis has shared with me.

Orchis: Orchid...

Orchid: Strength was never the end goal. What I really wanted was to protect us—our family.

Orchid: I won't make the same mistake twice. So Lloyd... Follow me.

Orchid reaches out and takes Lloyd by the hand.

As she makes contact, light begins to emanate from within Lloyd, enveloping Orchid's entire body.

The brightness is nearly blinding as Lloyd's physical form shifts in shape to support better the wishes of his companion.

Orchid: Lloyd is overflowing with power... and giving it to me.

Orchid: It's strange. My body feels so light.

Alspia: Looks like you've got it handled, eh? Color me impressed.

Orchis: Amazing! You really did it, Orchid!

Orchid: It's because I have you all here with me.

Orchid: Apollo, I can do this now. Let's go... Together.

Faced with the conviction in Orchid's eyes, Apollonia sighs in defeat.

Black Knight: All right. Just promise you won't leave my side.

Orchid: I promise.

Alspia: By the way, I did some maintenance on your pal and tuned some things up. He should move even better than before.

Orchid: Alspia... Thank you.

Alspia: Don't mention it. Least I could do for letting this mess get outta hand.

Alspia: Give that idiot hell for me, would you?

Orchid: Okay!

With Lloyd in hand once more, Orchid follows after Apollonia, and the two rush for town.

To Protect and Be Protected: Scene 3

The attacking golems are quickly dispatched by the Black Knight, Orchid, and Lloyd until only the researcher and his last golem remain. After asking the Black Knight to watch from the sidelines, Orchid and Lloyd are able to prove their growth by utilizing Parazonium and defeating the man and his golem. With the town safe and the culprit arrested, Orchid asks the Black Knight to honor a request.

Colleague: Lloyd! Where are you?

Alspia's colleague and his golems tear through town as they march steadily toward the palace.

Colleague: Give me Lloyd, or I shall destroy this place—

Black Knight: Raaah!

Golem: ...

Black Knight: Enough. That's enough spectacle for one day.

Colleague: Well, well. If it isn't the Black Knight. I was expecting you, but...

Colleague: You're not the one I want! Hurry up and show me where Lloyd is!

Orchid: You heard him. Let's say hello.

Lloyd: ...

Orchid: Tah!

Lloyd: ...!

Golems: ...

The rampaging golems stand no chance against Orchid and Lloyd's combined strength.

Orchid: Just one more enemy left to deal with.

Colleague: Oh, Lloyd! How I've waited for you!

Paying no heed to the loss of his golems, the researcher watches Lloyd like an overeager child.

Colleague: What beautiful form! What power! As I thought, you are the golem I've been yearning for!

Orchid: I'm not handing him over.

Colleague: I admit that was a skillful display, but his potential is wasted with you. The true depths of his power have yet to be utilized.

Colleague: I am more fit to draw that power out.

Colleague: At least, more than a girl who let herself be swallowed up by it once before.

Orchid: You're right that I let Lloyd down.

Orchid: But I will protect him. He is an important friend—not a source of power or a tool.

Colleague: Hehe, you're an amusing one. Very well. Let's decide once and for all who is fit to be Lloyd's master.

Colleague: Feast your eyes upon my masterpiece of a golem!

Stone Golem: ...!

Orchid: Lloyd...

Lloyd: ...

Orchid and Lloyd stand side by side to face their foe. Without looking away, Orchid addresses Apollonia.

Orchid: Just watch. Me and Lloyd can do this.

Black Knight: ...

Colleague: My golem may be inferior to yours, but underestimate us and you shall regret it!

Stone Golem: ...!

Colleague: Too slow!

A giant arm swings down onto Orchid, taking advantage of her blind spot as she dodges.

Orchid: Agh...

Black Knight: Orchid! Let me help—

The Black Knight grips her sword, but Orchid shakes her head in refusal.

Orchid: I'm okay. I have this now.

Black Knight: Orchid?

Colleague: Still acting brave? You really are so very amusing!

Stone Golem: ...!

Colleague: What?

With his eyes wide as saucers, the man gapes in disbelief as Orchid appears to predict his golem's every attack.

She and Lloyd nimbly dodge the onslaught and come away completely unscathed.

Colleague: Impossible... How is nothing hitting you?

Orchid: I have analyzed your movements. You won't touch me a second time.

Colleague: You've analyzed them?

Black Knight: So this is the power of calculation Parazonium possesses.

Black Knight: If the stories are to be believed, then Orchid truly can evade all of his attacks now.

Orchid: Lloyd. Time to finish this.

Lloyd: ...!

Stone Golem: ...

Colleague: B-but... My masterpiece...

Orchid: ...

Colleague: E-eek!

Colleague: Gah!

The man's attempt at running away is cut short by a multitude of threads wrapping around his body.

Orchid: I'm thankful for what you've done... I never would've realized what was truly important to me if you hadn't.

Orchid: I know now that I can protect the people I care about... and the home I care about... Together with Lloyd.

Soon after, soldiers arrive to take the researcher away, and quiet settles into the town.

Black Knight: Orchid. I'm going to join the troops and check for any casualties in the surroundings.

Black Knight: You must be tired from adjusting to an unfamiliar power. You should head back and rest—

Orchid: Apollo, I have a request.

Black Knight: A... request?

With determination burning in her eyes, Orchid explains what she wishes for.

To Protect and Be Protected: Scene 4

Days after the attack, the Black Knight obliges Orchid's request, and the two have a serious battle. They discuss their conflicting convictions before trading blows, and though the fight drags on with no clear winner, both Orchid and the Black Knight find themselves enjoying it. They are eventually stopped by Orchis and the others, and Alspia takes the opportunity to offer regular maintenance and tune-ups to Orchid and Lloyd. Filled with new strength and determination, Orchid swears to protect her Erste Kingdom family.

Orchid: Don't hold back. Come.

Black Knight: ...

Days after the golem incident, Orchid and Apollonia face each other on the training field once more.

They are here to complete the request that Orchid asked for.

Orchid: This isn't training. Show me your true strength.

Orchid: Let me prove that I won't only be protected by you anymore. I'll protect you too. I'll protect everyone.

Black Knight: ...

Black Knight: You've truly grown, not only in physical strength, but also in your conviction.

Orchid: Apollo...

Black Knight: But you will always be someone I strive to shield from danger.

Black Knight: This won't be a simple test of strength. It will be a clash of conflicting convictions.

Black Knight: If raising my blade is what it will take to keep you from harm's way, then so be it.

Black Knight: I'm sure the person you are now can understand such a contradiction.

Apollonia draws her sword and readies it without hesitation.

Orchid: Thank you, Apollo. We'll give you everything we've got.

The conversation draws to a close as Orchid readies herself as well.

The two watch one another in silence, but after a beat, Apollonia makes the first move.

Black Knight: Taaah!

Orchid: Lloyd!

Lloyd: ...!

Orchid reflexively commands Lloyd to receive the strike.

Orchid: (So this is what it's like to face Apollo's blade.)

Orchid: (This is the strength that's protected us for so long... The strength necessary to keep what you love safe.)

Orchid: (I have to focus. Now's not the time to be surprised or afraid.)

Orchid: (Lloyd is with me. We can take on Apollo, no matter how powerful she is!)

Orchid and Lloyd manage to ward off blow after blow, their stance and movements becoming more structured as time goes on.

Orchid: I know how you fight better than anybody else.

Orchid: Parazonium won't be necessary for me to analyze your actions.

Black Knight: I don't doubt that. You've been at my side long enough.

Black Knight: Ironic how the ones you wish to protect the most can prove to be the ones best suited to defeat you.

Orchid: Now it's my turn to attack. Go, Lloyd!

Lloyd: ...!

Black Knight: Impressive coordination. But something of that level isn't enough to—

Orchid: Lloyd, now!

Black Knight: What?

Lloyd sends Orchid high into the air where the girl unleashes a flurry of blows.

Black Knight: Not a bad idea, but relying on unusual techniques won't defeat me!

The knight swings her blade in a wide arc, deflecting Orchid's assault.

Orchid: I thought as much... You really are amazing, Apollo.

Black Knight: I didn't keep you all safe through sheer luck, you know.

Orchid: I know. I owe you a lot. It's thanks to you that I'm here today...

Orchid: So I'm asking you now... to face my full strength.

Black Knight: I wouldn't be here if I wasn't willing to.

Apollonia gives a brief smile, then settles into a defensive pose.

Black Knight: Come, Orchid!

Orchid: Okay!

The fight drags on with both participants reaching their limits.

Despite their exhaustion, however, they regard one another with cheer.

Black Knight: It's a strange feeling... I feel both overjoyed, yet saddened by the progress you've made.

Black Knight: Maybe this is what it's like to be a mother bird watching a young one fly the nest.

Orchid: Apollo...

Orchis: Apollo! Orchid! Are you both unhurt?

Orchid: Orchis? Why are you here?

Orchis: I heard you two were seriously fighting each other, and I couldn't help but worry...

Adam: Though it appears that both of you are healthy enough to keep going for who knows how long.

Alspia: Phew, what a show that was!

Alspia: By the by, Orchid, did you know you can still get even stronger?

Alspia: If we keep tuning Lloyd up, I'm willing to bet your guys' teamwork will be greater than before.

Orchid: Really?

Alspia: Of course! I've actually got a little proposition for you!

Alspia: I'd be willing to do the fine-tuning and maintenance—anything you guys need. In exchange, I'd like to have some of your data.

Alspia: Not a bad deal, if I do say so myself.

Orchid: So I can get stronger still...

Orchid ponders the possibility of future improvement as a smile spreads across her lips.

Orchid: Okay. You have a deal. I look forward to working with you, Alspia.

Alspia: Pleasure doing business with you.

Black Knight: An even stronger Orchid... I suppose I'll have to step up my own discipline as well.

Lloyd stands by Orchid's side once again—revived and improved by the power of Parazonium. Alongside him, a new comrade joins their ranks.

Taking in the loving family surrounding her, Orchid swears deep in her heart to protect them all.
