1 ✔

Let me wish you a happy birthday.
I'm so glad that we're all here to celebrate the anniversary of your birth together.
Captain, may the wind spirits protect and guide you.

2 ✔

I'm so happy to be beside you on your birthday, (Captain).
I wish you another fantastic year, Captain.
And may the spirits be with you.

3 ✔

You look a bit down? Ah, so it's the rain that has you pouting, huh?
Oh, don't worry. The rain will come to a stop soon enough. Why don't we go out for a bit?
Ah, (Captain), look at that!
The clear blue skies are giving way to a rainbow!
You're wondering if I used my powers?
Nuh-uh, I just read the weather based on the pattern of the clouds.
Meaning this rainbow spells great fortune for you.
Happy birthday, (Captain)! I pray you'll be happy all-year round.
And may the wind spirits be with you!

4 ✔

Happy birthday, (Captain)!
I'm so happy we're all together to celebrate the occasion this year too.
I'll pray to the wind spirits to watch over our journey so that we can always continue to do so.
Even if storm clouds should darken our path, I know this crew will find safe passage.
I want us all to gather on deck to watch meteor showers.
And work together to make sure you feel loved on your special day each year.
Here's to another wonderful year, (Captain).

5 ✔

Hehe. Today is your birthday, (Captain)!
I prepared something for you in celebration, but it sounds strange calling it a present.
If you'd like, how about I play you something on the reed flute?
Since I've met you, I've learned countless things from you...
Expressing my gratitude in words seemed daunting, so I decided to prepare this performance.
I'm not sure if you'll like it, but I'll do my best regardless..
Now, sit back and relax as I play you my heartfelt melody.

1 ✔

Happy New Year.
My New Year's resolution is to try letting go every once in a while!
Hm, you don't think it's something I should worry about too much? Hehe, I guess you could say that.

2 ✔

Happy New Year! Out with the old, in with the new! I wonder what this year's going to be like...
I'm often told I'm too serious, so I'd like to learn to be more funny.
And to do that, I need to find a good teacher!
Come next year I hope to lighten the mood on the crew with my humor!

3 ✔

Do you remember my resolution from last year? It was to develop more of a sense of humor.
And I'd like to show you how far I've come. Please have a listen!
Hee-hee, here I go... Never gets bland with the Grandcypher because it's so grand...
How's that for a pun?
Rgh... You're trying too hard to laugh. I guess it wasn't too hot? Humor's not an easy thing...
Oh, the hamburgers with extra crispy buns are ready. How many do you want? I'll bring them over.
Ahaha, bringing the fun with buns... Aah!

4 ✔

Happy New Year.
What wonderful weather to welcome the first sunrise of the new year!
The clear air is so refreshing... It's telling us that the year will be a wonderful one.
How will you spend the day, (Captain)?
I imagine it can't be all too easy deciding how to spend this invigorating new beginning.
If you're still undecided, would you like to take a walk with me?
It'll be a chance for you to take in the New Year's breeze in full. And it just might spark a few ideas.

5 ✔

(Captain), if you're free, would you join me for a game of battledore?
I'm pretty good at it. As long as I can read the wind, then I know exactly where I'll hit the shuttlecock.
Though I'm usually not competitive, I bet I could beat you!

  • Choose: Let's see you try!
Oh, you're fired up! All the better!
  • Choose: I won't lose!
    N-neither will I!

Let's begin! Hyaa!

1 ✔

Umm, (Captain)? I made some chocolates and was wondering if you would like some.
I put my heart into making them, so I hope you enjoy the taste.

2 ✔

Um, (Captain)? I made chocolates for Valentine's!
Would you care to try some?
Here, these are for you!
I had Lyria try a few, and she absolutely loved them!
I'm afraid there aren't many in there, but I can guarantee you will love the taste!

3 ✔

(Captain), do you have some time?
I made Valentine's chocolates this year too. Won't you have some?
Hehe... I love seeing you so happy. I hope you like how they taste!
Oh? Are those bird figurines on that desk?
Oh my! They are simply adorable!
The client from our prior mission made them for us? What impressive workmanship!
You want to give me one? I appreciate the thought, but I will have to pass.
After all, the client made it especially for you, (Captain).
I know that feeling all too well. It's the same feeling I get while making chocolates.
So I hope you will take good care of them. Consider it a favor to me as well.

4 ✔

(Captain), here you go... Valentine's chocolates.
I put all my heart into them this year too.
Does it suit your tastes?
Haha, I'm glad to hear it.
That wonderful smile you show me every year always makes me want to please you further.
To think that I was so nervous about making chocolates by hand...
But look at how good I am at it now!
I'll continue practicing in hopes of seeing an even bigger smile on your face, (Captain)!

5 ✔

Here, (Captain). Homemade chocolates for you.
I'm very thankful for you, you know.
There was a time when I couldn't give you chocolates because of my low self-confidence.
But seeing your smile and how happy you become gives me strength.
You're the one who taught me how to be brave!
Hehe. Does that sound like an exaggeration?
Well, there's no limit on how positively you can think about someone you cherish, you know?
Just think about me when you eat those chocolates, okay?

Huh? You're giving this... to me? Oh my... I'm overjoyed!
Thank you so much, (Captain)!

2 ✔

(Captain)? I heard you were looking for me?
Hm? A present for me? Aaah! This makes me so happy!
You did all this just for me? I don't know what to say...
Teehee, I feel so warm inside. Thank you so much, (Captain)!

3 ✔

Um, you said you have some business with me? Can you elaborate?
This is thanks for Valentine's?
Ah, this makes me so happy!
Thanks for being so thoughtful! I'll be sure to relish the taste!
You have another present for me?
Oh, it's one of those birdie figurines!
I can't accept something so valuable!
Hm? This is different from the ones I saw last time?
You asked the craftsman how he made them so you could make me one yourself?
You're too kind, (Captain). Just the chocolates alone would've made me more than happy...
Truth is I've never been happier in my life! I'll treasure it for a long time to come!

4 ✔

(Captain)? You look exceptionally busy today...
If there's anything I can help with, please let me know.
This present? Mm-hm! Where should I bring it?
Huh? I-it's for me?
Aah! Today's White Day!
I was looking forward to today so much. I can't believe I forgot about it...
Thank you, (Captain)!

5 ✔

What a lovely pendant, (Captain)!
Huh? A present for me? Is this to thank me for Valentine's Day?
I-I can't accept that!
No, I like you a lot! Please don't make that face!
It just took me by surprise. I never imagined I would be receiving something this wonderful.
Thank you! I will cherish it!

Trick or Treat Cutscenes
# Link Text
1 ✔

Trick or treat! Today is one of those days when you can really let loose!
Heh heh! I'm gonna try to play some tricks of my own!

2 ✔

Hee hee... Everyone seems to be having so much fun!
I'd like to play some tricks as well, but I'm having trouble deciding.
What kind of trick should I play?
I'm not very good at thinking up these kinds of things. No good ideas are coming to mind.
I know! How about you show me an example trick or two, (Captain)?
That should help me think of some tricks of my own!

3 ✔

Trick or treat!
(Captain), I thought of a splendid trick. May I try it on you?
Hehe, thank you. Here it comes.
Do you see this treat? Are you sure? A one, and a two, and a three—
Poof!
So which hand is it in? Get it right, and the treat belongs to you!
This one? Okay, here goes nothing... Ta-da!
Oopsie, too bad. Nothing in this one! No treat for you, (Captain).
My other hand is actually empty too, hehe. The correct answer is my sleeves!
Eh? Why do you look so sad? P-please stop looking at me with those puppy dog eyes!
Okay, okay! I'll give you the treat, so cheer up already, please!

4 ✔

Trick or treat!
Would you like to accompany me into town, (Captain)?
This year I want to do even more research before I attempt my tricks...
I'm betting there will be plenty of people in town willing to demonstrate tricks for us!
And of course, I have candy ready and waiting! I have enough treats in my pumpkin bucket to satisfy a whole townful of trick-or-treaters!
Huh? If I give them the candy, they won't pull out their pranks?
How could I have overlooked that? Umm...
I know! I'll just tell them I choose trick and treat!

5 ✔

Oh, it's you, (Captain). Are you enjoying this Halloween?
Yes, of course I'm having a good time! I stopped playing pranks on others though.
I realized I wasn't very good at them, but that's not what led me to quit.
You see, more than tease others, I would rather see them smile.
I realized it last year, when we were handing out candy to children.
Though I'm no good at trickery, the least I can do is make others happy with homemade treats!
Oh, but do feel free to try our Halloween machinations on me, (Captain)!

Happy Holidays Cutscenes
# Link Text
1 ✔

It's the holiday season, isn't it? Hm? Do you want me to use my powers to make it snow?
I'm not so sure I can, but since you're the one that's asking, (Captain), I'll give it my best shot!

2 ✔

Take a look at this, (Captain)! They were handing these out in town!
If we write what we want on a piece of paper and put it inside this stocking, we will receive it as a present the next morning!
What are you going to write (Captain)? Perhaps I should write "my mother"...
No. Actually, I think I would prefer to search for her myself.

3 ✔

Word is that he soars the skies to hand out presents to all the good kids.
A cold northerly wind blows during these nights. It even snows sometimes.
I wonder if Santa Claus can read the winds. It worries me a bit...
Do you know how I might be able to meet him? Surely there's a thing or two I can help him with.
Hm? The kids on the crew already have their share of presents, so there's no need?
Sorry, I didn't know you were helping to deliver the presents too.
I guess I can just take it easy and enjoy the holidays then.

4 ✔

Spending the holidays with your significant other is certainly one way to go about it.
I hear the weather's very important during such an occasion.
For setting up the mood in particular.
Maybe I can lend a helping hand with that!
(Captain), do you know what sort of weather is preferable for such an evening?
A starlit sky with gentle snowfall, you say?
But those events occur in completely different climates!
To make both happen concurrently might be beyond my powers...
Still, I'm sure it'd make for a wonderful spectacle.
I wonder... if I continue my training as a wind shaman, will I one day be able to summon such wondrous weather?
If I do, you'll be the first person I show it to, (Captain)!

5 ✔

(Captain), I've been pondering something for a while now.
How does Santa Claus fly through the air?
Oh! What if, what if he's some sort of immensely powerful mage?
If so, I bet being a wind shaman qualifies me to become his apprentice.
What do you think, (Captain)?
I hope I get to meet him one day!
You'll help me find him, won't you, (Captain)?

A New Wind Blows

Our heroes accepted an application from Petra, who wanted to make others aware of her accomplishments, and headed for Petra’s hometown. However, the village had been obliterated by Imperial soldiers who were hunting for the sealed celestial wind spirit. Petra faced the unleashed celestial wind spirit with resolve. After resealing the celestial wind spirit, Petra learned the truth about her own mother, and once again set out on a journey to find her.

Petra evolved as a wind shaman by completing her trials at the Temple of the Wind Spirit.
She told the party that she wanted to drop by her village and tell her mother what was going on.
Petra: Watch out for yourself...
Petra: I want to tell my mother of my newfound resolve to live as a wind shaman!
Vyrn: I got it now! Of course you don’t mind? (Captain) and Lyria!
Lyria: Yes! It will be fun to meet your mother, Miss Petra!
Petra: My mother was dead when I was a child... I used to visit her grave.
Lyria: R-really? My apologies, for saying I wanted to meet again.
Petra: N-no! My explanation was not good!
Petra: So therefore, don’t worry! Right?
Lyria: Uhh... Thank you...
Vyrn: Alright! Now pull yourself together, and let’s go to the village of the wind shamans!
The party headed for the village of the wind shamans, Petra's hometown.
Thus the party felt a change in the surroundings of the village of the wind shamans after they touched down there.
Petra: How strange... Where are all the villagers?
Vyrn: Look! There's someone laying over there!
Vyrn pointed out a collapsed person to the others.
The party took care of an injured villager who was gasping for breath.
Petra: Are you all right?!
Villager: Uh... Ugh... Petra...? I’m... All right...
Petra: I am back from my trials! Did something happen in the village?!
Villager: It was... The Empire. The Empire has attacked us...
Vyrn: Damnit! So those Imperial scumbags did it!
Villager: They headed for the Windless Valley...
Petra: To the Windless Valley?! What could the Empire be up to?!
Villager: Ah... Probably... cough! *cough*!
Petra: Are you alright?! Take it easy!
Villager: Hah... hah... hah... I'm fine! They took the elder hostage... Petra...
Petra: Yes! I will repel the Empire... I will not fail to save the elder!
The party ushered the villages to a safe place, and were then guided to the Windless Valley by Petra.
Petra: This Windless Valley has been the resting place for wind shamans throughout history... Including my mother.
Vyrn: It is a wind shaman graveyard? What use the Empire have for a place like that?
Petra: Perhaps they are after the celestial wind spirit?
Lyria: The celestial wind spirit... Is that a primal beast?
Petra: I don’t know. According to tradition it seems to originally have been a spirit that coexisted here with the wind shamans.
Petra: In the end, it seems that the celestial wind spirit was sealed up after it ran rampant and attackd people...
Petra: Wha?! Perhaps it has been unleashed?! We had better hurry!
Lyria: W-Wait! It's too dangerous to go on your own!
The party chased after Petra as she rushed into the palace of the celestial wind spirit.
Inside the palace, Imperial soldiers stood in a circle surroundign the altar.
Petra: You people?! Do you understand what kind of place this is?
Imperial Captain: Who are you? There are still villagers running free?
Vyrn: Alright! First we gotta beat those guys!
Petra: Wait! It’s the elder...
Elder: Oh! Petra! Get these guys away from the altar...
Imperial Soldier: Shut up! Put a sock in it, old man!
Elder: Wha?!
Petra: Elder!
Elder: Don’t worry about me! Hurry and stop these guys!
Imperial Captain: Good grief... Even though you guided us here, you were against us all along?
Imperial Captain: Don’t you realize what will happen to the villagers if you resist us?
Petra: Ugh... You fiends!
Imperial Captain: If we are able to obtain the power of the celestial wind spirit who wields the power of nature...
Imperial Captain: My standing at the Imperial Headquarters will be solidified... Let’s hurry back with that stone!
Petra: Hold it right there! That green crystal must remain on its pedestal!
Lyria: This is sickening!
Imperial Captain: Hahaha... I understand.
Imperial Captain: ... You think we came all this way just to give up now? We were well aware of the danger!
Imperial Soldier: Gasp!
The Imperial soldiers began to remove the green crystal that was sealed into the altar, as ordered.
However, the green crystal wouldn't move a bit.
Elder: It’s no good... The seal cannot be broken without using the power of a wind shaman.
Imperial Captain: Is that so... Anyway, smash the altar.
Imperial Soldier: Gasp!
Elder: Stop it! If you do that, it can’t be resealed!
Ignoring the elder’s cries, the Imperial soldiers smashed the altar with all their might.
A blinding light and a shockwave blasted through the area surrounding the altar. The bodies of the Imperial soldiers were blasted against the wall like ragdolls.
???: It’s been a while. Humans.
Petra: You're the Celestial Wind Spirit!
Petra picked up the green crystal fragments that scattered before her.
Celestial Wind Spirit: So you have not forgotten about me.
Imperial Captain: Such incredible power! Who knew such a thing could exist!
Celestial Wind Spirit: Hm...? You...
Imperial Captain: I broke your seal! Quickly! I want that spirit’s power!
Celestial Wind Spirit: Oh, I see. First I must state the formalities.
Celestial Wind Spirit: But... You talk of the impossible.
Imperial Captain: Why? You think I am going to give you my power?!
Celestial Wind Spirit: You are not those who deserve my protection...
Celestial Wind Spirit: You do not have the essence of shamans... So you cannot use my powers.
Imperial Captain: What? No! Give us your power!
Celestial Wind Spirit: Silence! You shut up.
Imperial Captain: Ah...!
Elder: Ugh...! How did it come to this... Petra! The villagers need protecting!
Petra: This is no good... We must put a stop to this!
Petra clutched the green crystal fragments with all her might, trying to get her body's shaking under control.
Celestial Wind Spirit: Is that so... I believe I have seen those eyes before. Aren't you the daughter of Carra?
Petra: I am your new counterpart, in place of my mother!
Lyria: Miss Petra! Be careful! Don’t overdo things!
Vyrn: Exactly! We can help you!
Petra: You guys...
Celestial Wind Spirit: My body has grown weak during my long slumber...
Celestial Wind Spirit: If Carra is not here... I’ll play with you instead.
The celestial wind spirit held out his hand. A gust of wind blew against Petra’s chest.
Petra: Hm?
Petra crumpled to her knees. A deep darkness spread throughout Petra’s bosom.
Then an intense pain slowly spread from the empty hole in her chest. Petra twisted her face in agony.
Petra: Ugh... Agh...
Vyrn: H-hey! What are you doing to Petra?!
Celestial Wind Spirit: She is the daughter of Carra. Therefore, I am simply eliminating her before she becomes a problem.
Celestial Wind Spirit: No one can stop me.
Lyria: Miss Petra! I’ll help you!
Petra: Ugh... Agh... Ugh...
At that time, the fragments of the green crystal Petra clutched in her hand began to pulsate.
The green crystal fragments that periodically emitted light floated above Petra’s wound and clumped together.
The light emitted by the green crystal fragments began sealing Petra’s wound. A coat of arms floated above her chest.
Celestial Wind Spirit: Damn it! What's going on...?
Petra: I heard my mother’s voice.
Celestial Wind Spirit: What? Carra?!
Celestial Wind Spirit: Who knew that you cretins wielded such power?!
Petra: I’ll give it a try!
While apparently exchanging words with someone, Petra raised her staff before her eyes and began chanting a spell.
Petra: Celstial wind spirit, master of causes and effects in nature, you must promise me!
Celestial Wind Spirit: Damn you...!!! Stupid girl!
The celestial wind spirit was sucked into the green crystal on the end of her staff.
Petra: Pant... Pant... I did it...
Petra lost consciousness after sealing the celestial wind spirit into the tip of her staff.
Thus the village of the wind shamans was saved by Petra’s actions.
The Imperial soldiers who attacked the village were also released, with the firm promise that they would never again approach the village.
Petra rested for a while and completely recovered. She visited the elder’s house together with the party.
Elder: Thank you for joining together with Petra to save our village.
Vyrn: Nah, we haven't really done anything.
Lyria: Yes! It was all thanks to Miss Petra!
Petra: That’s not true! We were only strong because we all worked together.
Elder: Anyway... I can’t thank you enough.
Petra: By the way... You had something you wanted to discuss?
Elder: Oh. That’s right, that’s right. It’s something important...
As Petra fixed her gaze on him, the elder eased into his talk.
Elder: Did you know that this village of the wind shamans originally flourished under the divine protection of the celestial wind spirit?
Petra: Yes. An especially talented wind shaman was able to obtain this divine protection.
Elder: Ah. Your mother, Carra, used her singular talents to obtain the divine protection of the wind spirit.
Elder: In addition to her original ability to predict the weather, Carra's truly godlike powers even extended to controlling the weather herself.
Vyrn: Wow, your mother was amazing, Petra!
Elder: Now that Petra had absorbed the power of the celestial wind spirit, she would soon be able to wield the same sort of power as her mother.
Lyria: Amazing! Miss Petra is turning into a goddess!
Petra: Don't be silly, with this “goddess” talk!
Elder: Nevertheless, you have indeed obtained an unparalleled power... Be careful how you use it.
Petra: Y- Yes! Words to live by!
Elder: Carra the wind shaman shall travel this Sky World as a member of a legendary Order. This happened before you were born...
Elder: One day, a black mist of unknown origins fell upon this village of the wind shamans.
Petra: It was... The Night of the Black Mist.
Elder: That night, all engulfed by the black mist lost their senses and ranpaged about.
Elder: Unfortunately, the celestial wind spirit was also a victim of that mist...
Lyria: Is that so... So that is how he came to hate mankind.
Elder: At that time, Carra unexpectedly showed up in the village. Kind of like how you all came to help us.
Elder: However, there was one difference... She held a small child in her arms. That was you... Petra.
A quiet Petra nodded deeply as she listened to the elder’s words.
Petra: So my mother sealed the celestial wind spirit and then died...
Lyria: That’s awful.
Vyrn: Maybe it was your mother who helped us with the spirit?
Elder: Unfortunately... I really don’t know.
Elder: However, I must apologize for misleading Petra somewhat.
Elder: Petra’s mother Carra did not actually die then.
Petra: Wha?!
Vyrn: What the heck do you mean!
Elder: Carra said she was going to track down the true source of that black mist that descended on the village and then left on a journey...
Elder: I was worried that she was going to take Petra with her, but she decided that would it would be safer to leave her behind in the village.
Elder: Carra told me to tell you about all this when you became a wind shaman, Petra.
Elder: I intended to tell you when you came back here as a wind shaman.
Petra frantically tried to get her trembling under control.
Elder: I have been misleading you all along, so it is understandable that you might be shaking with rage.
Elder: Anyway, regarding Carra... She hasn’t come back yet...
Elder: She might still be fighting with something, somewhere.
At that time, Petra leaped to her feet.
Vyrn: Oh! What happened?
Petra: I am actually pleased to know the truth about myself! My mother might still be around somewhere in this world...
Elder: Hahaha... Maybe! Maybe! You are Carra's child!
Petra: I made up my mind! I’m not just going to wait around for my mother to return, I am going to go meet her myself!
Lyria: Miss Petra! I am rooting for you!
Petra: So... Can you guys help me out some more? Please, (Captain)!
  1. Hahaha... Your smiling face is so cute.
  2. I also want to meet Carra!

Choose: Hahaha... Your smiling face is so cute.
Petra: My smile? T-thank you!
Petra: So... Is it OK?
Vyrn: You’ll be fine! Right, Lyria?
Lyria: I have no problem with it!
Lyria: Anyway... Let’s all protect Miss Petra's cute smiling face!
Vyrn: And so it's settled. I’m looking forward to traveling with you. Petra!

Choose: I also want to meet Carra!
Petra: Yes! I am always concerned about how others perceive me!
Lyria: Well you surely are a pretty girl, Miss Petra!
Vyrn: Alright! We will help you find your mother!
Vyrn: And so it's settled. I’m looking forward to traveling with you. Petra!
Continue 1
Petra: Thank you! It will be nice traveling with you, everyone!
Thus Petra joined the party on their journey, with the new goal of finding her mother.
Would the day come when Petra would be reunited with her mother?

The God of Humility

(Captain) and company continued their journey, tracing the whereabouts of Petra’s mother. However, they are unable to find any clues about the black fog that her mother had been after. The party decides to take a break in a village they come across.

Petra visited her hometown, the village of wind shamans. She made a pact with the celestial wind spirit after breaking the seal and learns the hidden truth about her mother.
Ever since, Petra and the crew have been gathering information about the Primal Beasts, traveling in search of Petra’s mother.
Vyrn: I’ve been asking around for rumors about this black fog but it doesn’t seem like anyone knows anything about it.
Lyria: Yeah... I’m sorry, Petra. I wish I could be of more help to you.
Petra: No, it’s fine. Don’t worry. It’s been my dream to travel freely like the wind to where ever it might take me.
Petra: On that note... Why don’t we take a short break around here?
Vyrn: Yeah! Then... How about that village over ther by the foot of that mountain?

The God of Humility: Scene 2

The village they had decided to stop by had been troubled by a drought -- its causes unknown. Petra uses the powers of her celestial wind spirit to fill the village well as a temporary solution. To determine the cause of the drought itself, the group decides to travel into the monster infested mountains.

The party decided to stop by the village to take a rest. However, there was clearly a somber air that filled the village.
According to the villagers, it hasn’t rained in a while for reasons unknown and the drought has caused the village well to run dry.
Vyrn: Hmm... A drought caused by reasons unknown, huh... That doesn’t sound good.
Villager: *Sigh* If this well runs dry, then we will have to leave this village...
Lyria: Oh no... Please, wait! We promise, we’ll take care of it!
Villager: I appreciate your thoughts but what exactly can you do?
Petra: Um... Is it possible for me to take a look at that well?
Petra raises her hand timidly as everyone’s eyes gather on her.
Petra: If I use my powers, I might be able to do something.
Villager: Your powers, huh... Well, if you’re that confident, I’ll guide you there.
Petra: At your service!
Petra is guided to the well in question. She then closes her eyes and concentrates her mind.
Petra’s body begins to glow with a faint light.
Petra: Spirit of water, that which dwells in these lands... In the name of the celestial wind, I beg you to lend me your powers...
As she casts her spell, Petra waves her staff over the well. The light that surrounds her gathers at the tip of the staff.
The light then falls from the staff into the well. The moment it reaches the bottom, the well begins to bubble vigorously.
Just like that, the almost empty well overflows with cold, clear, fresh water.
Villager: Th-this is a miracle! Who are you?
Vyrn: Wow... How does that work? It didn’t look like magic, nor did it look like the powers of a Primal Beast.
Lyria: Yeah... I sense this strange power, like a mixture between Petra’s own energy and that of nature.
Village: Your name is Petra? Thank you so much!
Petra: Y-yes... But all I did was borrow the the powers from the spirit who resides in these lands and...
Villager: You don’t have to explain, it’s fine! You’ve saved our village!
Petra: W-well, no... Actually, the root of the problem hasn’t been solved yet.
Villager: What...?! Oh... heavens have mercy...
Petra: Unless it rains in the nearby mountains, it’s only a matter of time before this well runs dry again.
Vyrn: That makes sense... Yeah.
Petra: There’s also something that bothers me. Would it be okay if we survey the areas around the village?
Villager: Y-yes, why of course! Please! If there’s anything we can do to help, let us know!
Petra: All right. Then, first off, do you know anyone in the village who may have encountered any ill fortune around the same time the drought started?
Villager: Uh...? A villager with misfortune? No, I can’t think of anyone in particular.
Petra: All right. That’s fine. It might become a little dangerous, so you should wait back here.
Villager: Y-yes, understood. Thank you for your help!
Petra: Sorry to trouble you, but... Can you please lend me a hand?
Lyria: But of course! Right, (Captain)?
(Captain) nods to Lyria’s call.
Vyrn: Then it’s been decided! Let’s head out!
Lyria: Is something in this mountain causing the problem?
Petra: Yes... if my intuitions are correct.
Petra: I can sense that this mountain is filled with monsters. Everyone, we have to stay alert!

The God of Humility: Scene 3

Petra guesses that the village drought is being caused by a monster known as “Batu. ”As they are walking along the mountain pass, they find a woman who is crouched behind a rock. Lyria rushes over to her but as she begins to beg for water, she turns into a monster.

The group continues climbing the mountain path, aiming for the peak.
While on their way, Petra begins to talk about a monster she had heard about in the village of the wind shamans.
Petra: A monster called the Batu probably lives in these mountains and is causing the strange weather in the village.
Lyria: A... Batu?
Petra: Yes. This Batu is probably eating all of the rain clouds and that’s why it hasn’t been raining in this entire area.
Petra: This Batu is actually a...
Petra’s explanation is interrupted by a woman’s sob. They can hear it coming from somewhere nearby.
As they search around, they find a woman crouched behind a rock.
Lyria: Oh no! There’s a woman over there!
Petra: Lyria! Wait! Stop!
Lyria panics and rushes over to the woman, not listening to Petra’s warning to stop.
Lyria: E-excuse me, are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?
Woman: W-water... May I have just a sip of water?
Lyria: Uh, water? I-I’m sorry. I don’t have any water on me right now.
Woman: I see... You don’t want to share any of your water with me...
Lyria: N-no! That’s not it! Once we get to the village down by the base of the mountain...
Woman: Water water water water... Give me water!!!
Vyrn: Hey! That lady doesn’t seem quite right!
The crazed woman transforms into a monster.
Petra: It’s... a Batu!
Batu: Give... me... water...
Lyria: Ahhhh!
Petra: Watch out!!!
Petra yells as she pours all of her energy into her powers and launches a bright light.
As if answering to Petra’s light, a dirt wall forms up from the ground and gently envelops the group.
Vyrn: ?! Are we... safe? Wait, what is this?! Did you do this, Lyria?
Lyria: I-it wasn’t me!
Petra: Ha... haha... I was able to use the power of spirits... without casting!
Vyrn: We’re the ones that are surprised! I didn’t know you could do this kind of stuff, Petra!
Petra: Everyone! We can talk about this later! We have to concentrate on the Batu!
Batu: It’s dark... It’s cold... Where... Where am I? Please... Help me...

The God of Humility: Scene 4

(Captain) and company defeated the Batu, which should have solved the cause of the drought. However, it the village wouldn't receive rain immediately. That was when Petra came in and used her celestial wind spirit powers to create a rain cloud which hydrated the village. The villagers who watched the ritual praised Petra as if she were a goddess. Petra looks to (Captain) and company for a little help.

The group defeats the Batu and finds the remains of what seems to be the woman that the Batu had possessed.
After picking up the remains of the woman, the group headed back down the mountain. They explained to the villagers about what they found.
Villager: So this monster, the Batu was it? It was possessing this woman and that’s what was causing the drought?
Petra: Yes, most likely... This woman probably got lost in the mountains when this Batu found its likely host.
Petra: I have a request. Will you please take care of her remains here in this village so that she may rest in peace?
Villager: Yes, of course! I will take it upon myself to make her a grave!
Lyria: The woman... She must have been so sad and alone in the mountains.
Lyria: I hope she finds peace when she joins the others in this village.
Petra: Yes. There’s nothing to worry about now.
Vyrn: Hehe. And that’s case closed! Petra, you’ve done a great job again!
Villager: It’s all thanks to you, Miss Petra. You’ve saved us! Now we just wait for it to rain!
Petra: Yes... But...
Although the villagers are overwhelmed with joy, Petra seems worried.
Petra: It may still take some time until the rain comes back naturally...
Villager: W-well, sure... It’s not like it’d rain immediately just because the monster is gone. I understand.
Vyrn: Yeah... There’s not much we can do about that, though. Right, Lyria?
Lyria: Yes... Unfortunately. I’m sorry we can’t be of help.
Villager: Oh, no no! What are you saying?! You’ve helped us more than enough already! We can’t cause you any more trouble than this.
Petra: Wait!
Petra: Um... I... I don’t know if this is going to work but there’s something I want to try!
Petra then gathers everyone in an open field near the foot of the mountain.
The group watches Petra from behind, as she quietly concentrates her energy.
Petra: Spirit of fire, that which dwells in these lands... In the name of the celestial wind, I beg you to lend me your powers...
When Petra finishes casting her spell, a huge pillar of fire rises where she had pointed her staff.
Vyrn: Ack... The heat’s really hot. And we’re all the way back here!
Villager: What’s she doing, burning a fire in a place like this?
Petra: I’m not done yet...
Petra: Spirit of wind... that which dwells in these lands... In the name of... the celestial wind, I beg you... to lend me your powers...!!!
A gust of wind begins to twirl where Petra pointed her staff.
With the flurry of wind blowing in all directions, the pillar of fire gains even more force as it turns the mountainside a bright red.
Lyria: Amazing...! Petra’s controlling two spells at once!
Petra: Gh... Hold on, just a little... more...
The air around them begins to warm up quickly as the hot winds spiraled around.
The rising air rushes up the mountainside. Before they knew it, a rain cloud had begun to form near the peak of the mountain.
Villager: Wow... How is she doing that...?
A few moments later, large rain drops begin to fall from the skies.
Lyria: Wow! It’s rain! Rain!
Petra: Phew... Looks like it worked! I’m so glad.
Villager: She’s a goddess... Miss Petra... You are a goddess, reborn!!!
Petra: Wha?!
Villager: Because who else, other than a goddess, could make it rain?
Petra: N-no, actually... There’s a reason to this. The temperature difference between the surface and the air above-...
Villager: We don’t mind for the details! Come, come. We villagers would like to offer you, Miss Petra...
Villager: No... Goddess Petra, an offering of hospitality!
Petra: Ahh, no no, I said... I mean... Vyrn, Lyria! Help me!
Petra is taken away by the villagers.
Lyria: Hehe... Quite the humble and cute goddess she is.
Vyrn: Yeah. But if she has such great powers, she should be more proud of it, don’t you think?
Lyria: But then, that wouldn’t be Petra.
Lyria: Right? (Captain)?
(Captain) smiles back at Lyria.
Petra: Captain! P-please come with me!
Petra whines for help with a slightly cracked voice. (Captain) and the group rush after Petra to join her.
The blessed rain hydrates the dried village. Later that night, a festivity was held to honor Petra. And as expected, it lasted the entire night.

Traces of Mother

Petra, Elmott, and the crew happen to stop at a village that was once freed of a black mist by Petra's mother, Karla. Learning that she had ventured into the Abyssal Forest to cut off the black mist—a form taken by the evil spirit Andras—at its source long ago, they follow in her footsteps in hopes of finding her.

Petra: This is a statue of my mother?
To replenish their supplies, (Captain) and the crew have come to a small village nestled in the mountains.
Petra stands, mouth agape, in front of a statue in the middle of town.
Wind Spirit: I never thought we'd see traces of her in such a remote village, but there's no mistake.
Wind Spirit: This is the woman who banished the black mist and sealed me away while I was gripped by madness. My enemy and my savior.
Wind Spirit: She is your mother, Petra. The wind shaman known as Karla.
Petra: ...
Wind Spirit: Pitiable woman, to go unnoticed by her own daughter.
Wind Spirit: Though I suppose it makes sense. You were merely a babe when she left you.
The crew gather at the center of the village, around the statue dedicated to Petra's mother.
Settling on a plan, they go about talking to the locals, trying to find out anything they can about Karla.
Villager: The statue? It's of the hero who saved our village, a wind shaman.
Villager: It happened a few years ago. The village was attacked by a mysterious black mist.
Villager: Just when we thought we were done for, the wind shaman came and blew the black mist away.
Villager: She even stayed a while and healed the people who were injured in the confusion. She was our savior!
Petra: Amazing...
Elder: The wind shaman? She said she was headed to the Abyssal Forest.
Elder: Something about stopping the black mist at its source...
Petra: (Stopping it at its source? Could it be that Andras is still alive?)
Petra: Excuse me, but where can we find the Abyssal Forest?
Elder: It's on an island not far from here.
Elder: The island used to be inhabited, but the village there fell to ruin.
Elder: Nobody knows how it happened. That's why it's called the Abyssal Forest—it spooked folks so much they gave it a scary name.
Elder: We tried to warn the wind shaman, but she insisted on going.
Vyrn: Looks like we got a lotta info!
Elmott: A black mist that drives people mad? That's got to be Andras.
Elmott: Doesn't sound like it was possessing a host like it did in Montbix though.
The black mist that attacked Petra's village was in truth an evil spirit called Andras, who incites people into committing heinous acts.
When the crew visited the kingdom of Montbix, it, too, was enshrouded in black mist.
Andras had possessed the hero Gallivan and appeared to him in the form of his own sister, tempting him to madness.
As confusion gripped the nation, the crew joined forces with the kingdom's inhabitants and slew Andras... or so they thought.
Lyria: So this would mean that after Andras attacked Petra's village, it must have come here.
Lyria: Then, after being repelled here too, it went to Montbix.
Petra: I'm afraid that might not be right.
"Fran": Ah... Right. So you're that annoying woman's...
Hmph, but no matter. This is the end for you!
Petra: (Andras spoke about what happened to my village as if it had heard it from someone else.)
Petra: (It was as if Andras wasn't even there when it happened.)
Petra: (That can only mean one thing.)
Petra: The villagers claim that Mother fought off the black mist.
Petra: And yes, Andras was sighted at my village, and Montbix as well.
Petra: It makes sense to believe that it went from one place to the next.
Petra: I thought that too, until now.
Petra: But then I realized: these three places have nothing connecting them and are so far away from each other. That would suggest that—
  1. There's more than one Andras?

Choose: There's more than one Andras?
Petra: I believe it's the most likely theory. It would also explain why Mother would go to "stop the black mist at its source."
Petra: There might be an original Andras out there, creating other Andrases and sending them out to attack various settlements.
Petra: Mother must have gone to the Abyssal Forest to exorcise their source.
As Petra explains her theory, the crew all shiver as they are reminded of the ferocious spirit they fought.
Elmott: This is getting out of hand...
Vyrn: Yeah. It only took one of those things to nearly bring down a kingdom, but now you're sayin' there's more?
Lyria: We need to get to the source before it hurts anyone else...
Wind Spirit: Then we too must go to this Abyssal Forest. There is no other way.
Petra: You're right...
Petra: Not to mention we might find clues leading to Mother.
(Captain) nods in agreement.
Petra: (If the true Andras is somewhere in the Abyssal Forest, then that's also where Mother's journey would have ended.)
Petra: (Will she be there? What would I even say to her?)
Petra: (Should I ask her why she abandoned me? Or should I...)
Petra: (No, I can't think about that now. I have to concentrate on stopping Andras.)
Faced with the prospect of meeting her mother, Petra frets.
With fear in her heart, along with just a little hope, she sets forth towards the forest.

Traces of Mother: Scene 2

Petra and the others stumble across Karla's journal in some village ruins in the Abyssal Forest. In it are entries detailing her determination to defeat Andras and her love for Petra.

The crew catches wind that Petra's mother, Karla, had headed to the Abyssal Forest to exorcise Andras.
Following her trail, they arrive at the forest and begin exploring.
Deep within, they find the ruins of a village that has been long since abandoned.
Vyrn: Looks like it's been a while since anyone lived here.
Petra: Let's take a closer look. Maybe we'll find a sign that Mother was here.
The group splits up to look for clues among the ruins.
Elmott: What's this?
Elmott finds a journal in one of the structures and hands it to Petra.
Elmott: This name on the cover... It's your mom's, isn't it?
Petra: Oh!
Petra: I knew it... My mother has been here.
Petra gently opens the journal and studies its contents.
Karla: The black mist's true form was an evil spirit named Andras.
Karla: The different black mists I've encountered on my journey are called shadows, and are merely fragments of the original.
Karla: It seems that the shadows will spawn endlessly unless the original is destroyed. I must find it quickly...
Karla: Through investigating, I've determined that the original Andras dwells deep within the Abyssal Forest.
Karla: But its power is immense. There's a chance that I will die trying to fight it.
Karla: Nevertheless, my duty as a wind shaman won't allow me to let Andras act unchallenged.
Karla: I have regrets. There are many things that I still want to do. That I was not able to be a mother to Petra hurts most of all.
Karla: More than anything else, I wanted to be there to see her grow up...
Karla: I will leave this journal here, in case I fail.
Karla: If anyone is reading this, I ask you, please spread word throughout the skies of the threat that Andras poses.
Karla: And, if you believe I am worthy of it, please tell my daughter Petra that I loved her.
Having read the last entry, everyone looks toward Petra with concern.
Petra: ...
Petra: (Mother never returned to the village.)
Petra: (Which means that after finishing this diary, she went to fight Andras, and...)
Petra: It's not fair... Saying goodbye like this...
Petra: How am I supposed to stay angry at you?
Tears well in Petra's eyes. Silently, they fall down her cheeks and onto the journal.
Lyria: Petra...
Petra: I'm sorry... I'm fine. There are more important matters.
Vyrn: Like what do we do about Andras?
Elmott: If the original is still alive, that means there's a certain someone we still have to avenge.
The crew look back on the final moments of a brave man who gave his life fighting Andras, and remember the strength of his resolve.
Petra: My mother's fate aside, I believe that we need to go deeper into the forest.
Petra: We have to put a stop to Andras and the black mist, once and for all!
(Captain) nods in solidarity.

Traces of Mother: Scene 3

The crew enters a cave deep in the forest where Andras's main body is sealed. Andras suddenly breaks the seal and attacks Petra, gaining control of her briefly until fended off by Karla.

Intent on exorcising the original Andras, (Captain) and the crew head further into the Abyssal Forest.
They come across a suspicious cave and decide to enter.
Inside they find a single staff planted in the ground, positioned as if it is preventing black mist from erupting out of the earth.
Vyrn: Look, there's black mist swirlin' out from the base of that staff!
Wind Spirit: There's no mistaking it—that's Andras. I can sense it.
Wind Spirit: But its presence feels far stronger than when we encountered it before.
Petra: So this must be the original Andras, the one Mother wrote about in her journal.
Wind Spirit: Indubitably.
Heeding the wind spirit's warning, the group make sure to keep their guard up.
Petra: It looks like that staff is keeping Andras sealed away.
Wind Spirit: Indeed. And it most definitely belonged to Karla.
Wind Spirit: I remember it well—when I myself was sealed away by her, she wielded that very staff.
Petra: But that would mean Mother succeeded in exorcising Andras!
Wind Spirit: Yet she did not return to the village. She likely perished during the struggle.
Petra: ...
Lyria: Oh, Petra...
Petra: I'm... alright. I knew this was coming.
Petra: I was just... clinging to a little hope.
Petra stares vacantly as what remains of her hope curdles into despair.
She steps toward the staff, like a child yearning for their mother, but then—
Petra: What?
Wind Spirit: ...!
Get back!
As Petra approaches her mother's staff, it shatters into pieces while emitting a dry, cracking sound.
With nothing to stop it, the black mist bursts forth from the ground like a geyser and envelops the cave.
Elmott: Damn! Did the seal break?
???: Yes, it did... Though I admit it took some time to erode it away.
A grave, sinister voice fills the air in the cave.
As if to follow the voice, the mist gathers and gives shape to the form of Andras.
Andras: Ah, but what fortuitous timing for the seal to give out.
Andras: Or did you plan for this breakfast feast to coincide with my awakening?
Wind Spirit: Spare me, Andras! You will taste my wrath if you continue to insult me.
Andras: Hmph. Then why are you here? What is it you want?
Petra: Andras. We have come to end you, once and for all.
Petra: So that no one will suffer at your hands ever again!
Andras: Ah, so my other selves were hard at work while I was imprisoned.
For a moment, Andras falls silent, as if listening to someone else speak.
Andras: Aha! I see! We set our sights on a celestial earth spirit!
Andras: Though it seems my shadow played quite the long game. I suppose it was unavoidable, considering how weak it was.
Elmott: You know what happened at Montbix?
Andras: My shadows are extensions of my misty form. We are many, and we are one.
Andras: We have the ability to share with one another what each of us has seen and heard.
Andras: I see that we were defeated many times in many places by that persistent wind shaman...
Andras: No matter. My shadows served their purpose—they succeeded in bringing you to me.
Elmott: What?
Andras: You, girl, the Wind Spirit's pact bearer. I shall have your body for my own!
Andras transforms entirely into black mist and surges towards Petra.
Petra: Cleansing winds! Purify this evil!
A barrier of wind appears and halts Andras's approach, scattering the mist.
Andras: Hmph, you are much more powerful than you were in my shadow's memory. But are you strong enough to endure this?
The mist converges into a spiral shape. It spins rapidly and attempts to pierce through Petra's barrier.
Petra: Gah!
Petra: No! It won't be like what happened in Montbix—not this time!
But Andras's onslaught is too much for her. One by one, cracks begin to form in the barrier.
Elmott: Damn!
Elmott: Hey, Andras! Don't think you can leave me out of this!
Lyria: Please help us, Tiamat!
(Captain) and the crew assault Andras, trying to draw its attention away from Petra as much as possible.
But their attacks land on nothing but mist, passing harmlessly through Andras's vaporous form.
Andras: Fools. Can mist be set on fire? Can it be cut by steel?
Andras: The only real threat amongst you is the wind spirit, and even it has made the mistake of making a pact with a weakling!
Petra: Ngh!
Petra's barrier crumbles and scatters to the ground, omitting a sound akin to shattering glass.
She falls to the ground, exhausted.
Andras: I will trap your mind in an endless dream! I will make your flesh my home!
Petra: Ghh...
Lyria: Petra!
Petra writhes on the cave floor, as if Andras is slowly eroding her away from within.
Petra: Ungh...
She manages to resist Andras's control for a brief moment, until—
She falls still and stares blankly ahead, her eyes now clouded over.
Petra: ...
Elmott: Not good—is she seeing an illusion, like Gallivan and Eurel were?
"Karla": Petra.
Petra: M... Mother?
"Karla": Yes, it's me. It's good to see you, Petra.
Petra: Mother... I've missed you... I've missed you so much...
"Karla": I know, Petra. I'm so sorry for leaving you all alone.
"Karla": But now we can be together forever.
Looking upon Andras's illusion of her mother, Petra's eyes well up.
Wind Spirit: Petra, get a hold of yourself!
(Captain) and the crew desperately call out to Petra, but their cries fall on deaf ears.
"Karla": Do you see them, Petra? Those are our enemies. They're trying to tear us apart.
Petra: No... I don't want to lose you again...
Obeying Andras's illusion, Petra points her staff towards the group.
Vyrn: Dang! What do we do?
Lyria: Um, if I remember right... In order to drive Andras out of her, we have to trigger a strong memory, or her emotions!
Everyone racks their brains for something they can use, when suddenly—
???: Spirits of the wind, answer my call!
Aerial Purge!
A woman's voice is carried through the air on a gentle breeze.
The moment the breeze makes contact with Petra, black mist erupts from her body.
Andras: You! Yet again you defy me!
Almost knocked out from the ordeal, Petra drowsily looks up at the woman who saved her.
Petra: M... Mother?
Karla: Sorry I'm late. Everything's going to be okay, Petra.
Petra: ...
The woman's voice sounds familiar to Petra, who feels a strange sense of warmth and safety as she slips into unconsciousness.
Petra: Gasp...
Petra: Where am I?
Elmott: Finally, you're awake. You aren't in any pain, are you?
Petra: Elmott? (Captain)? I was...
Petra: Oh! That's right, I was possessed by Andras and—
Karla: It's all right now. I've sealed Andras away again.
Petra: ...!
Karla: You've grown so much, Petra.
Petra: Mother? Is this one of Andras's illusions?
Karla: No, silly girl—I'm real. Come here.
Karla approaches Petra and embraces her gently.
Karla: You've grown so, so much.
Petra: Oh...
Enveloped in her mother's warmth, Petra barely noticed her own tears streaming down her face.

Mother's Reasons

Karla reveals that while keeping Andras sealed, she spent much time learning spiritual unison to try and defeat the evil spirit for good. She begins training her daughter to use the spell, who will be able to make far better use of it via her link with the celestial wind spirit.

After a long and tumultuous journey, Petra is finally reunited with her mother, Karla.
Finding a moment of safety, the crew exchange notes with Karla about the events that led them to Omnia Forest.
Karla: So you encountered Andras in Montbix, then.
Karla: But if you used your own strength to defeat Andras's host, and not the power of the celestial wind spirit, then that would mean...
Elmott: We were lucky there was a hero in Montbix that day.
Karla: I see.
Karla appears to pick up on what Elmott is gravely implying. She lowers her head, as if remembering others that have fallen.
Petra: Um, Mother... Could you tell us more about what happened here?
Petra: About Andras, and what you've been doing in the forest?
Karla: After searching far and wide, I finally found the original Andras dwelling in that cave.
Karla: But I wasn't strong enough to defeat it. I only had the power to temporarily seal it away.
Karla: I used my staff to transfix the seal, and since then I've been living in this forest, training to find a way to defeat Andras completely.
Karla: Earlier today I sensed that my seal was failing, so I rushed to the cave.
Karla: Imagine my surprise to find you there, Petra.
Petra: ...
Karla: Now to tell you about Andras. How much do you know already?
Elmott: We know that it takes the form of black mist, and can only be fully defeated by spirits.
Petra: And that the versions of Andras that have appeared throughout the world are just shadows of the original.
Petra: We read it in your journal—the shadows will continue to spawn indefinitely unless the original is defeated.
Karla: Yes—a task that I could not accomplish.
Karla: Sealing it away was my only option. But it's clear that it'll be free before long.
Karla: Andras is close to fully understanding how the seal works.
It begins to dawn on everyone exactly how dire the situation really is.
Expressions of concern and frustration line their faces.
Wind Spirit: Tell me, Karla. Do you know why Andras is targeting powerful spirits? What is its ultimate goal?
Karla: Andras's objective is simple: to consume powerful spirits in order to become even more formidable.
Karla: It sent its shadows out into the world to collect these high-level targets.
Petra: Which is why one shadow came for the celestial wind spirit at the village of the wind shamans...
Elmott: And another came for the celestial earth spirit at Montbix.
Karla: The villagers who built a statue of me also spoke of a mighty spirit in their region, though it may not be as strong as a celestial one.
Vyrn: So if we don't beat Andras soon, it'll collect more spirits and become even stronger than it is now?
The mood becomes somber as the crew can't help but imagine the worst.
Karla: We must defeat the original before that happens.
Petra: But, Mother, if a shaman of your caliber couldn't do it, then how can we?
Karla: There is a way—a method I devised while training in the forest.
Petra: Oh! Then...
Karla: But it can only be done by someone who has made a pact with a celestial wind spirit—by you, Petra.
Petra: Me? But, Mother, you're much more—
Karla: Listen to me, Petra. There's a limit to my abilities.
Karla: My magic draws power from many spirits at once.
Karla: These spirits are countless in number, but individually, they are not very strong.
Karla: In order to defeat Andras, it's not numbers we need, but a single concentrated point of power. A spirit of the highest order.
Elmott: In other words, we need a celestial spirit.
Karla nods in affirmation.
Karla: This new technique I created is called spiritual unison. It allows you to utilize a spirit's power beyond its full potential.
Karla: To do this, the caster's soul and will must be aligned with the spirit's.
Karla: Even if I were to achieve spiritual unison with one of my own spirits, it would not be enough to defeat Andras.
Karla: But you can do it, Petra.
Karla: You and the celestial wind spirit you've made a pact with.
Karla gazes intently towards Petra and the wind spirit, but Petra averts her eyes.
Petra: No... I can't. I struggle to draw out the wind spirit's power as it is.
Petra: And besides, I was only able to form a pact with him thanks to the green crystal and your power, Mother.
Karla: It's true that I infused the green crystal with some of my magic as a safeguard.
Karla: But I did that in case the celestial wind spirit needed to be resealed, not so someone could make a pact with it.
Petra: But then, how did I—
Karla: The truth is, it's impossible for a regular wind shaman to be a pact bearer for a celestial wind spirit.
Karla: Their power is too great for the average practitioner to bear.
Karla: But you did it, Petra. While I can only receive their blessing, you directly formed a pact with an actual celestial spirit.
Karla: That is something even I couldn't do.
Petra: Not even with your power?
Karla: Yes. That's why I believe you can defeat Andras. In fact, you're the only one who can.
Petra: I'm the only one...
Wind Spirit: I doubt that. You can hardly manage the amount of power that I lend you now, Petra.
Wind Spirit: If you were to try and amplify my power beyond its limits, it may well kill you.
Petra: That's...
Unable to retort, Petra frowns somberly.
Karla: It's not as if I want to put Petra in harm's way, celestial wind spirit.
Karla: That's why I'm going to train her. I'm going to teach her everything I know about being a wind shaman.
Karla: And you should know better. I can tell that you can see the potential she holds.
Wind Spirit: ...
Karla: What do you think, Petra? It's your decision.
Petra: I...
Petra closes her eyes, giving serious thought to Karla's proposal.
She looks deep within and asks herself what she truly wants to do.
Gallivan: I believe you're aware that there's only one method left to defeat Andras.
Elmott: No. Don't be ridiculous... We're not about to let anyone sacrifice themselves.
Gallivan: At the moment, I'm nothing but a moving corpse fueled by Andras's power.
Gallivan: Life will not return to me. If Andras disappears, I won't be able to move anymore.
Gallivan: If you can show even a bit of compassion for me... then cremate me in a lavish fire.
Petra: I don't want to see Andras hurt anybody ever again.
Petra: Moreover, I'm a wind shaman.
Petra: It's my duty to make peace with spirits, to speak to them on behalf of mortal people...
Petra: And to use my power to help both worlds.
Petra: Andras is a threat to both man and spirit. I can't sit back and watch as it harm others.
Petra: If defeating it is something I can do... If I can use my power to save everyone... Then I'm willing to try.
Karla: Okay.
Petra: So, um... wind spirit. You might not want to, but I'd like you to try too.
Petra: We can't let Andras act freely.
Petra: Not to mention the fact that you two are mortal enemies. So please, help me.
In an unprecedented act, Petra bows her head and makes a sincere plea to the wind spirit.
The spirit ponders for a short while, then nods reluctantly.
Wind Spirit: Hmph, very well. You are correct—we cannot allow Andras to do as it likes.
Wind Spirit: But I will help you only until Andras is defeated.
Wind Spirit: If you wish to use my power afterwards, you must prove yourself to me.
Wind Spirit: You must prove that you are worthy to be my pact bearer.
Petra: I understand.
Karla: The seal I created is only temporary. It won't be long till Andras is free again.
Karla: You'll have to learn everything I have to teach you before that time.
Petra: Okay!
  1. We'll help any way we can!

Choose: We'll help any way we can!
Petra: Thank you, (Captain).
Karla: It's not going to be easy, Petra. But I believe in you.
Feeling bolstered by Karla's encouragement, Petra prepares for her training, determined to succeed.

Mother's Reasons: Scene 2

An outpouring of emotions allows mother and daughter to bond over training. Karla reveals she left Petra behind a long time ago in order to keep her safe and exact revenge on Andras.

Under Karla's guidance, Petra trains hard in order to achieve spiritual unison—the only means by which Andras can be fully defeated.
Karla: Spirits possess a level of power that we mortals can't even begin to imagine. Celestial spirits, even more so.
Karla: That's why you cannot force them to obey you. In order to draw out their power, you must understand and empathize with the spirit, becoming one with them in the process.
Karla: That is the key to spiritual unison. There's little time left, so I'll teach you the rest as we go.
Petra: Got it.
Okay then...
Petra takes a deep breath, closes her eyes, and brandishes her staff.
Petra: Here I go.
Spiritual Unison...
She concentrates. The air swirls around the shaman, and her body begins to give off a green glow.
Petra: ...?
Ngh!
Without warning, Petra cries out in pain. The nearby air turns into buffeting wind, violently blowing away everything in the vicinity.
Karla: Petra!
Wind Spirit: She can't hear you. Not that it matters—she'll tire herself out soon enough.
As if on cue, Petra collapses to the ground.
Wind Spirit: Hmph, you're going to have to try a lot harder if you hope to get anywhere with this.
Petra: Rgh! I'm not done yet! Surely on my next try...
Standing back up with her staff as support, the wind shaman focuses once more.
Hours pass. Petra's efforts to acquire the power of spiritual unison have continued without pause.
Petra: Huff... Huff... Again...
Refusing to give up, Petra makes yet another attempt.
Having reached her physical and spiritual limits, however, she instead slowly collapses to the ground.
Karla rushes over to prop her up.
Petra: Mng... Where am I...
Karla: Ah, you're awake.
Petra: Mother?
Petra is puzzled to find herself lying down with a warm sensation beneath her head.
Karla: Haha, what a blessed mother I am to have you sleeping on my lap.
Petra: No wonder it's so warm...
Karla gazes lovingly at Petra while stroking her head, a tinge of loneliness in the mother's expression.
Realizing the current situation, Petra's cheeks flush red as she bolts upward.
Petra: ...!
Karla: Had enough rest already? I wouldn't mind you lying down a bit longer.
Petra: I-it's okay. I'm not a child anymore after all.
Karla: All right then...
Petra: ...
Karla: Not sure what to talk about?
Petra: To be completely honest, yes. I do believe that you're truly my mother.
Petra: But... this is my first time meeting you.
Karla: Ah, that's right... This would be your first time.
A forlorn look crosses Karla's face.
Petra: Can I ask you a question?
Petra: You clearly seem to care about me, so then why did you leave me behind in that village?
Karla: ...
Petra: The elder did give me a reason, but I'd rather hear it directly from your lips, Mother.
Petra: I want to know what was going through your mind at the time...
Eyes fixed on her mother, Petra lets loose the negative emotions that she's kept buried inside for her whole life.
Karla: I'm sorry.
Petra: ...!
It's too late for an apology!
Petra: Do you have any idea how hard it was for me? How lonely I felt growing up!
Petra: Everyone in the village was so kind to me... They treated me like family.
Petra: The difference was they all had their own real families, while I had no one...
Petra: The better they treated me, the more I felt a kind of invisible barrier between us...
Petra: Still, I smiled as best as I could to repay their kindness.
Petra: Can you even imagine what it was like for me!
Karla: ...
Petra: Mother, I'm not trying to lay blame on you...
Petra: I wish I could be happier about meeting you, but I just can't help it...
Petra: My whole life, I told myself, "If only Mother were there for me..."
Petra: And that maybe I'm just meant to be alone...
Tears stream down her cheeks to her tightly clenched hands.
Karla looks to the skies above, as if turning away from her daughter's sadness.
Karla: I left you in that village because I believed you would be happier there.
Karla: Petra, there was no way I could overlook Andras's misdeeds... I had to defeat it no matter what.
Karla: For the sake of my fallen comrades as well...
Petra: Huh? What do you mean?
Karla: Did you know that I was the wind shaman of a certain crew at the time?
Petra: Yes, the elder mentioned it.
Karla: Because we had to make the difficult decision of sacrificing one of our members in order to defeat Andras, the crew ended up disbanding.
Petra: ...!
That's the same method we used in Montbix!
Karla: I remember all too well the incredible regret that plagued us...
Petra: So basically... you left me for the sake of revenge against Andras?
Karla: That's one reason. The other reason was to keep you out of harm's way.
Karla: There was a chance Andras might have targeted you.
Petra: Huh? Why would the evil spirit have any reason to come after me?
Karla: Andras has a tendency to use those with a strong affinity for magic—such as the wind and earth shamans—as its vessel.
Karla: And your talent in that regard surpasses my own. I figured you were almost certain to be targeted.
Petra: ...
Karla: It was because I love you so much that I had to let you go. I did what I felt would be best for you.
Karla: But maybe that's just my selfishness talking... A poor excuse on my part... You have every right to hate me.
Petra: I have so many more complaints to throw at you once this is all over... in addition to ideas on how we can make up for lost time...
Karla: Hahah, fine by me. It's time I took some responsibility as your proud mother anyway.
Karla: And before I forget, I'd like to thank you too for keeping Petra safe.
Wind Spirit: Don't get the wrong idea now. I am simply bound to Petra because of our pact.
Wind Spirit: If I had my way, I would never willingly choose to serve such a frail mage.
Petra: What an awful way to put it, after all the time we've spent together...
Karla: The wind spirit possesses a very strong ego, making him honest to a fault.
Karla: And he's also less likely to lend a helping hand if you're not on the same page... I know firsthand how tough it can be.
Mother and daughter share wry grins as they trade glances.
Karla: Well then, shall we keep at it with the training?
Petra: Yes, let's!
The trace of uneasiness in Petra's smile is all but gone.

Mother's Reasons: Scene 3

During Petra's unsuccessful attempts to master spiritual unison, Andras breaks free of its seal. She realizes that she must come to an understanding with the celestial wind spirit in order for the spell to work, and manages to accomplish just that before it is too late.

While everyone else has turned in for the night, Petra continues practicing the spiritual unison spell.
Petra: Pant... Wheeze... Again...
Wind Spirit: Humph. Still at it, eh?
Petra: Of course...
Staying upright with the help of her staff, Petra musters every last ounce of strength she has.
Wind Spirit: How foolish.
Petra: Tch! I don't need to hear that from you!
Petra: I already know I'm lacking... And that I'll never be as strong as my mother...
Petra: But this is something only I can do. If I can't pull this off, then Mother and the crew...
Petra: I have to do this!
Petra: As the wind shaman, I would be remiss to simply let an evil spirit run amok. Moreover—
Wind Spirit: That's exactly what I'm calling foolish.
Petra: Huh?
Wind Spirit: Never mind your capabilities. Understanding the meaning behind this technique must come first. That is where you're lacking.
Petra: What... do you mean?
Wind Spirit: As much as I'd like to tell you to figure it out yourself, I realize that's not going to get us anywhere...
Wind Spirit: Very well then. Consider this an admonition.
Wind Spirit: The spell you're trying to master is not one that subjugates the spirit. Rather, it is one where you harmonize with the spirit in order to draw out its true power.
Wind Spirit: And that is by no means an easy feat. You and I are different on a fundamental level, in more ways than one.
Wind Spirit: Thus you must earn my sympathy and prove that you're worthy of my power.
Wind Spirit: I believe Karla said as much. To lean into, understand, and become one with your spirit's soul and will—only then can you draw out my full power.
Petra: ...
Wind Spirit: To put it simply, your task is to understand who I am while showing me who you are. If you cannot accomplish that, then this is a lost cause.
Petra: So in other words, the problem lies between you and me rather than my own capabilities...
Wind Spirit: Exactly.
Petra: This is all so sudden...
Wind Spirit: ...
Fine, consider this a compromise of the greatest degree on my part. Tell me why you seek my strength.
Petra: Well... I can't just leave Andras to do as it pleases.
Wind Spirit: Why not?
Petra: People must be shielded from Andras... We must not have a repeat of the tragedy that happened in Montbix.
Petra: It is the calling of us wind shamans.
Wind Spirit: You're speaking from the heart, yes? In which case, the spell is almost certain to fail.
Wind Spirit: Why, you might ask? Because it is impossible for me to grasp the motivations behind this "calling" you speak of.
Petra: ...
Wind Spirit: Consider once more why it is you seek my power.
Wind Spirit: Whatever your reason, it must be something I can empathize with—that is the key.
The celestial wind spirit leaves Petra with those words before disappearing.
Petra: I need your power... to protect everyone as the wind shaman—
Petra: ...!
That gust just now...
A chill runs down her spine.
A black mist begins to pervade the forest, suggesting something is afoot.
Petra: No, this can't be!
Petra: ...!
The sound of rustling grass from behind puts Petra on alert.
She immediately points her staff in the opposite direction in response.
Elmott: Here you are.
Karla: I'm glad you're safe.
Petra: Oh, it's you guys... What happened? Could this black mist be...
Karla: Yes, you guess right. Andras must have broken through my seal.
Petra: ...!
Oh no...
Elmott: Looks like you've been pretty hard-core about your training.
Petra: But I haven't succeeded in casting the spell even once...
Karla: ...
A sour mood overtakes the crew.
Petra: I'm... sorry...
Karla: Petra?
Petra: None of this would be happening if only I had more strength...
Petra: If only I hadn't made such a big deal about wanting to make a difference...
Petra: If only I weren't so insistent on following in Mother's footsteps...
  1. You've done nothing wrong!

Choose: You've done nothing wrong!
Vyrn: Yeah, what (Captain) said!
Vyrn: It was our decision to come along and help you find your mom.
Lyria: Mm-hm! We can find a solution together!
Elmott: Exactly. It's too early to be throwing in the towel.
(Captain) nods in agreement.
Petra: Does a solution even exist?
Karla: We'll just have to figure it out.
Petra: Mother?
Karla: I hate myself for having to ask this, but can I count on your help if worst comes to worst?
Karla turns to Elmott and the crew, a hint of sadness in her expression.
Elmott: That's gonna be a hell no from me. The flame left a nasty taste in my mouth, and I've got no plans to see it ever again.
Karla: ...
Petra: That's right! What a thing to ask for, Mother! We could never sacrifice you!
Petra: Don't tell me you've forgotten we were going to make up for lost time! And I haven't told you all my gripes yet either!
Petra: You promised me, Mother!
Karla: It doesn't hurt to prepare for a worst-case scenario... Besides, surely you realize that at this rate, everyone's—
Petra: No, I don't! We finally got to see each other again... We've barely had the chance to talk...
Petra: Are you going to leave me alone all over again?
Karla: Petra...
Uncontrollable tears stream down her cheeks, leaving a small puddle on the ground.
Petra: If you're saying that's the only way... then I'll be the sacrifice!
Petra: After all, my incompetence is what sparked this whole mess—
Karla: !
Petra: Mo... ther?
Karla: No, Petra... I won't let that happen.
Petra: But... I...
Andras's Voice: You certainly did a number on me back then, Karla...
With those words, the surrounding mist converges to take shape.
Karla: Andras...
Andras: Humph. Everything would have gone so well had you not spoiled my plans, blasted shaman...
Andras: But thanks to this setback, I now realize that you are my biggest obstacle.
Andras: Upon my return, I'd planned on taking control of your daughter first before finishing you off...
Andras: But no, I cannot risk your interference. You shall die here and now.
Karla: Hah, I'm afraid you won't find me to be such an easy target.
Karla: In fact, I'm ready to seal you away once more.
Andras: I'd like to see you try.
Andra disperses into a mist that aggressively rushes at Karla.
She quickly responds with a spell.
Karla: Wind spirits, heed my call!
Green tornado and black mist repeatedly collide into each other, with the latter slowly dominating and dyeing the tornado black.
Petra: Mother!
Petra: Celestial wind spirit, lend me your strength so that I may protect my mother!
Petra: Spiritual Unison!
Petra: Haaah!
Despite her best efforts, Petra's spell falls flat.
Petra: Why... Why won't it work... Mother needs my protection...
Vyrn: Darn it! Is the spirit's power really the only way we can lay a hand on Andras?
Andras and Karla clash before Petra's very eyes.
The celestial wind spirit puts on a troubled expression.
Wind Spirit: Petra, if you wish to help your mother, then present me with an answer I can empathize with. Why is it you seek my power?
Petra: This is no time for word games! We have to do something n—
Wind Spirit: Answer me.
Faced with the spirit's overwhelming presence, Petra feels compelled to answer.
Petra: Because I'm the wind shaman...
Wind Spirit: You wish to fulfill your calling, and for that you seek power. Is that really all there is to it?
Petra: ...
Petra: (The true reason I seek strength... Fulfilling my calling as a shaman is definitely a big part of it...)
Petra: (And of course, I have people I want to protect... But most importantly...)
Petra: The truth is...
Though her words are nearly drowned out by the raging gusts, the celestial wind spirit picks up the entirety of her statement.
Wind Spirit: A most befitting answer. I deem you worthy of my power.
Petra: Huh...
Wind Spirit: Try the spell once more. Cast away all worldly thoughts and focus on that singular wish.
Petra: Okay...
Karla: The wind spirit possesses a very strong ego, making him honest to a fault.
Karla: And he's also less likely to lend a helping hand if you're not on the same page... I know firsthand how tough it can be.
A ray of hope flashes across Petra's face as she takes a deep breath and tightly grips her staff.
Petra: Here goes! Spiritual Unison...
The surrounding winds gather around her; the shaman's body emits a green glow.
The very air itself seems to rumble in response.
Karla: Petra!
Petra: ...
Petra: (It's... working? Almost as if the failed attempts before had never happened...)
Petra closes her eyes. A gentle, almost celebratory, breeze blows in the vicinity.
Petra: Is this the power of the celestial wind spirit?
Wind Spirit: Only a fraction of it. Nonetheless, you did well, Petra, in finding a way to link with me.
Petra: It's thanks to all the little hints you gave me...
Wind Spirit: As you said, Andras cannot be left to roam freely. And more importantly...
Petra: Indeed.
With a swing of her staff, Petra's gales quickly disperse the mist-stained tornado.
Andras: ...!
Egads...
Elmott: Right on time, Petra.
Petra: Yes... I'll take... No, we'll take things from here.
Petra flashes a bold, confident grin and directs her staff at Andras.
Petra: Let us show Andras, my mother, and everyone else the extent of our newfound power.
Wind Spirit: Heh, sounds good to me. Draw forth my power at will.
Petra: That's the idea!
Andras: Impossible... How could such a frail mortal control the power of the celestial wind spirit...
Petra: It's time to settle things once and for all! We will not lose!
With that bold claim, Petra lets loose with her new ability.

Mother's Reasons: Scene 4

Petra and the celestial wind spirit annihilate Andras with overwhelming force. With peace restored and her personal mission accomplished, Petra expresses her desire to continue traveling with the crew after catching up with her mother.

Petra: Winds!
Andras: Ngh!
Having learned the art of spiritual unison, Petra manages to drive Andras back.
Karla: This is Petra's true power? I knew she had talent, but this is something else...
(Captain) and the crew stare in disbelief at the overwhelming might of Petra and the celestial wind spirit.
Andras: It appears I am no match for you right now... I'll simply have to gather my strength to finish you off for good on a future date.
Andras turns into a mist that disperses into the surroundings.
Wind Spirit: Petra!
Petra: I know! Winds, gather before me!
The atmosphere itself begins to tremble.
Petra's gusts entangle the mist-turned Andras and drag the evil spirit toward her.
Andras: How can this be... Mere winds should not be able to capture me in my mist form!
Wind Spirit: Just as mist can take on any form or shape, so can wind.
Wind Spirit: Finish it, Petra.
Petra: Right!
Petra: Ascend into a spiraling gust!
Ventus Irae!
The concentrated winds combine to form a massive tornado.
Andras: Gwaaah!
Andras is completely swallowed up by the resulting thunderstorm, its wailing death throes echoing into the void.
Having completed her task, Petra collapses to the ground.
Petra: Mng... Where am I...
Karla: You're up.
Petra: Mother? I must've fallen unconscious again...
Petra: Wait, where's Andras!
Ngh!
Petra bolts upward, only to then twist her face in pain in the next moment.
Petra: Wh-what's happened to me... My body... Augh...
Lyria: I-it's not too bad, is it, Petra?
Karla: Oh, there's nothing to worry about. Petra simply overexerted herself. Give her a few day's rest, and she'll be right as rain.
Petra: More importantly... what happened to Andras?
Karla: You vanquished that evil spirit for good with your final blow.
Petra: That's... a relief...
Greatly consoled by the news, Petra is awash in an inner sense of peace and calm.
Karla: Be proud of yourself, Petra. You saved everyone.
Petra: Oh, now you're exaggerating...
Lyria: Petra, your face is all red.
Petra: Augh...
Karla: Haha, she's just blushing from the embarrassment. That's my adorable Petra for you.
Petra: E-enough about me already!
Vyrn: It was a close call, but Petra really came through in the end, huh.
Petra: I have the celestial wind spirit's many hints to thank for that. Spiritual unison isn't a spell meant to subjugate the spirit.
Petra: Rather, it's one where you harmonize with the spirit in order to draw out its true power.
Petra: Our thoughts had to become one in order for that to happen.
Petra: As a wind shaman, I always told myself that I needed more power to fulfill my calling. I believed that from my heart of hearts.
Petra: But the celestial wind spirit could not grasp such a notion...
Petra: That's why I kept messing up. Because we were not on the same page; our paths were divergent.
Elmott: So? How'd you two end up seeing eye to eye in the end?
Petra: I put a lot of thought into the spirit's words and considered the true reason I sought strength.
Karla: Care to tell us what that might be?
Petra: To become a wind shaman so incredible that even my mother would have to respect me.
Petra: To show her how far I've come all by myself...
Petra: For that I needed power.
Petra: It was a truth that the celestial wind spirit could immediately relate to.
Petra: The idea was to show both Mother and Andras the extent of my capabilities.
Vyrn: Wow... A bit extreme, don'tcha think?
Wind Spirit: Hah. What's more, Petra didn't show the least bit of hesitation in her conviction.
Wind Spirit: She was completely fearless in her thirst for power. The power to do what she must.
Wind Spirit: It was a simple objective that I could identify with, which was the key to success.
Karla: You could say that the wind spirit is brutally honest with himself.
Karla: In addition, he has a huge ago and won't help with anything he doesn't personally agree with.
Vyrn: So in other words, the guy's a narcissist.
Petra poses a question to the celestial wind spirit, her gaze downcast.
Petra: Um... In your eyes, how did I do? Am I fitting as the shaman bound to you?
Wind Spirit: Hah, let's just say you get a passing grade.
Petra: Th-thank you.
Grinning from ear to ear, Petra bows at the celestial spirit.
Vyrn: Think we should get back to the Grandcypher soon now that Petra's up?
Vyrn: This ain't the best place for her to rest up.
Lyria: Good point.
  1. Any plans going forward, Petra?

Choose: Any plans going forward, Petra?
Lyria: Huh? What's with the sudden question?
Lyria: ...
Oh, I see!
Lyria: You've been traveling in search of your mother ever since returning home once, Petra...
Petra: Um... I'd like to continue traveling with the crew if you'll have me.
Petra: Though it'll have to be after I've had some time to spend with my mother.
Karla: Time with me?
Petra: Yeah, we talked about making up for lost time and me unloading all my gripes. Remember?
Karla: Ah, that's right... It's going to be great catching up, Petra.
Petra: It sure will be!
Though Karla gives a wry smile, Petra is beaming with joy at the thought of spending precious time with her mother.
The wind shaman's tale concludes here.
Only for another tale of the wind shaman to begin anew.
