It had become something of a familiar sight by now—Pijiu, surrounded by empty bottles upon the deck, indulging in spirits.
Oh. What brings you here?
Choose: That's my question.
I am savoring fine spirits—a peerless choice befitting such an auspicious day.
Many have gathered to celebrate you. Were an instrument of calamity like myself to intrude, the momentous occasion would be robbed of its cheer.
Of course, one also wishes to celebrate. When you are alone later, I intend to offer my blessings and honor your journey.
Choose: Join us, please...
Oh? Very well then. If that is your wish, then one shall heed it. Do not let sorrow cloud your face.
Then again, the fault is entirely mine. Forgive me for my carelessness.
Let us make this a merry banquet for all. For today is truly a day worthy of celebration.
A very happy birthday to you. May your journey ahead be ever filled with blessings and abundant fortune.

Happy New Year. Singularity, may one ask for your assistance? A child of mine has gifted me a fine barrel of spirits.
Whether the child is aware that I reside aboard this vessel or not, they have also sent a barrel devoid of spirits.
An alcohol-free brew, rare and wondrous indeed—a treasure seldom encountered in this world.
What thoughts went into crafting such a unique drink? Let us savor it to uncover the truth.
Now, bring forth the hammer and the cups. We shall celebrate this New Year together, as companions.
Singularity, may the path you walk in this new year be blessed and fruitful.

Pijiu sits upon the deck, surrounded by a mountain of empty crates, indulging in a merry feast of drink.
Glug, glug...
Mm. Delightful.
The city streets are brimming with confections of chocolate, giving cause to further indulge today.
While chocolates from my children are undoubtedly exquisite, there is a special joy in choosing such delights with my own two eyes.
Ah, to ponder which chocolate pairs best with which drink—such idle musings are a pleasure unto themselves. The citrus-flavored one in particular has me wondering...
It seems to go well with a dark beer.
Alas!
In my fervor, I seem to have devoured every piece. I had hoped to share them with you, Singularity, but I must offer my apologies.
Choose: No worries, here's more chocolate.
Ah, what good fortune! The chocolates gifted by you, Singularity, pair harmoniously with every drink one can imagine!
You are a treasure, truly. To so perfectly understand my desires is a rare gift, indeed.
Now then, come to my side. There is chocolate juice here as well. Enjoy it to your heart's content.

Choose: How rare... What troubles you?
I had prepared gifts for my children, yet it appears that, due to unforeseen delays on the part of the suppliers, the deliveries will not arrive on time.
Now then, what is one to do? There was even a gift prepared for you, Singularity, but alas, it is now beyond my control.
Choose: The crew will help.
Ah, truly, that may be the only remaining recourse. Forgive me for involving you in this matter.
One can only hope the packages arrive on time.
Choose: We'll make sure they do.
Haha, how reassuring... If anyone can make this happen, you surely can. To have you by one's side is truly a blessing.
Once we have seen the gifts delivered, let us hold a grand feast in celebration to thank all involved.

As I wandered across the skies, I have been granted countless joys.
No matter how many such days I live, they remain ever good and true. To see children frolic with boundless glee is always a delight.
Their laughter pairs exceptionally well with drink. Perhaps one should also offer the little ones some treats to repay the favor.
But first, allow me to indulge in merriment of my own. Mischief or sweetness—which do you desire most?
Children are meant to be willful—as is natural. If you desire both, then by all means, say so.
Now, as you please.

The heavens cradle the young with tenderness in so many ways, for life is a gift that flourishes under love's gentle care.
I, too, shall partake in such sacred traditions, embarking upon travels to deliver blessings and gifts to my cherished children.
This is a rite one upholds without fail each passing year, all the while taking care not to be seen by the Cardinal Saints.
Ah, fret not, Singularity. You, too, dwell in my heart as though you were my own child. Before departure, let us go shopping.
Dream without restraint, for the desires of the young are precious beyond measure. Now come—I will see your desires fulfilled.

Mystical Drunkard

While on a mission, the crew encounters Pijiu—a mysterious man who revives the island and heals the sick. The villagers, in their joy, host a feast and offer him their finest liquor. To everyone's surprise, Pijiu reveals that he is a cursed being and begs to be slain.

For many long years, a land had been home to people tormented by famine. (Captain) and company have come to deliver aid to its struggling islanders.
The island's state is a devastating sight—a wasteland devoid of life. Nearly all the vegetation has withered away, and the air is absent of vitality.
Vyrn: Phew, this is awful... Has it been like this all along?
Villager 1: Uh-huh... The land's been completely parched ever since that drought several years ago... Most of the livestock died off, and many of us are still sufferin' from sickness...
Lyria: Um... Since the situation's gotten this bad on the island, has everyone considered moving elsewhere?
Villager 1: That'd be the smart thing to do... 'Cept we've watched over this land for generations, with our homes passed down from our ancestors.
Villager 1: And even though we're just a small village, findin' a town or nation willing to take every one of us in would be no easy feat.
Villager 2: We ain't nothin' but born and bred on the island, and this here's gonna be our final restin' place. Guess that's just our lot in life.
Lyria: Please don't say that! We'll help find a way for all of you to continue living here!
Vyrn: Yeah, but where do we even start? We've hardly got enough supplies as is...
Enigmatic Man: You are most kindhearted.
Vyrn: Whoa, you came outta nowhere... You from here too, mister?
Enigmatic Man: Do not mind me, for it is you whom one observes. To show such compassion for complete strangers is commendable, indeed.
Lyria: Um...
The man calmly raises a chalice to his lips, imbibing its contents with grace before extending his empty hand toward the earth.
Having drunk in the man's magic, the barren soil suddenly bursts to life—grass and trees grow lush and verdant where there was only desolation moments ago.
The cracked earth bears plump vegetables and ripe fruit; and as if summoned by unseen forces, livestock emerges, ambling into the reborn land.
Villager 1: Great googly moogly! No matter how many seeds we planted, the land gave us nothing! But now...
Lyria: There's birds, rabbits, and other animals too... What just happened!
Enigmatic Man: Onward to the gravely ill.
Villager 2: Hey, wait up, mister!
Without another word, the man departs, seeking the homes where the sick lay bedridden.
The confused crew members watch as the man approaches each unwell villager, drawing them into his embrace.
Enigmatic Man: A toast to your life.
One by one, the villagers begin to regain color in their faces, their trembling hands steadying and wheezing breaths restored.
Lyria: Th-their faces were so pale just moments ago...
Villager 2: A miracle... It's a miracle! I don't know how we can ever repay your kindness...
Enigmatic Man: Gratitude is unnecessary. I would call for celebration in its stead.
Enigmatic Man: Prosperity will flourish in the days to come. Let us raise a cup to our fortuitous encounter and the renewing vigor of life itself.
Vyrn: Er... Just to be sure, you're sayin' we should have a party, right?
Enigmatic Man: Precisely. It is time to harvest the blessings upon us. May all satisfy their hunger and taste the bounty of this land.
Enigmatic Man: No feast is whole without the finest spirits to flow with it. Fear not, for I come prepared. Sharing with one's children is a joy, never a burden.
Enigmatic Man: May laughter echo among my children as you learn to cherish life's sweetness; come, offer me your hands.
Villager 1: A-all righty, everyone! Let's gather round and rustle up some grub—startin' with pickin' the crops and huntin' for game!
Vyrn: Talk about a turnaround! Earlier, these guys were as pale as milk left out too long!
Lyria: It's really amazing! Who are you, really?
Enigmatic Man: There is no need to bestow titles. What matters is the aid I offer freely, Singularity, Red Dragon, and Girl in Blue.
Vyrn: Wait, he knows about us? And about (Captain) bein' the Singularity too...
Vyrn: With all the power that guy's packin', could he be some kinda primal beast?
Lyria: No, I don't sense that from him...
Lyria: But surely he's not a bad person, considering what he's done for the village.
Vyrn: Sounds about right... Anyhoo, let's go help out the villagers. We can try to find out more about the guy later.
Villager 1: Mm... I can't remember the last time I had food this darn good... Nom... Nom...
Villager 2: Goodness, look at all them veggies, fruits, and meats... This is incredible... Sniff...
Enigmatic Man: Mortals are fragile, fleeting beings. Even nourishment, when consumed in haste, can quickly turn to poison.
Enigmatic Man: To steady the body, take a gentle drink. Allow the essence of wine to ease your workings within.
Villager 2: Thank you kindly... You really went all out for us, didn't you? How mighty thoughtful of ya.
Enigmatic Man: Remember: You are all my children, one and the same.
Lyria: Haha... You called us "kindhearted" earlier, but that's just as true for you!
Lyria: So, um...
Enigmatic Man: ...?
Vyrn: You still haven't told us your name yet. I'm Vyrn, and this is Lyria and (Captain).
Vyrn: Back there, you spoke like you already know us.
Lyria: Er, we're not feeling suspicious or anything... We really just want to get to know you better.
With a faint smile, the man pours golden-hued liquor into his chalice, its mellow sound filling the air as the vessel brims with the liquid.
With graceful boldness, he raises the chalice, letting the liquor cascade into his throat.
Pijiu: Pijiu.
Lyria: Pijiu... It has a cute and mysterious ring to it.
Pijiu: It is the name of a drink.
Vyrn: Well... That's an interesting choice for a name...
Pijiu: I sense curiosity of one's true nature. A shard of ages forgotten—awash in obscurity...
Vyrn: H-hold on a sec! Could you... maybe try explainin' in a way that's easier to understand?
Pijiu: ...
Vyrn: Ah, sorry... It's our fault for askin' so many questions at once...
Pijiu: I'm Pyrn!
Vyrn: Wha?
Pijiu: Think maybe this is a better way to get my point across?
Vyrn: Wait, what?
Pijiu: Oh? Are my words still comin' across all fancy-like? I'm trying to copy how the folk in taverns talk, but I guess I'm still muckin' it up...
Pijiu: Glug, glug... Phew... Thinkin' too much just makes me wanna knock back a drink! Still gotta try dumbin' it down some more though...
Vyrn: You've already overdone it!
Vyrn: While I'm curious how you'd take it down another notch, you sound like a completely different person already!
Pijiu: Hm, perhaps one should take a more gradual approach.
Uruki is a crew member

Pijiu: Like when I'm speaking to Uruki.
Pijiu: Observe.
A flick of Pijiu's fingers conjures a seed, which begins to sprout before their very eyes.
Lyria: Wow... That's amazing...
Pijiu: This, indeed, is my gift—the power to draw life from nothingness... Proof that I am an accursed existence.
Vyrn: Accursed? Whaddya mean?
Pijiu: I am naught but a despised relic... a blighted vessel.
Lyria: That can't be right... You saved this island, Pijiu. You have a kind and gentle heart.
Vyrn: Yeah, what kinda person calls themselves "accursed"? You're just a good guy who helps everybody out!
Pijiu: Whether kindness dwells within or not is of no consequence.
Pijiu seemingly loses interest in the conversation, his eyes straying from the crew as if drawn elsewhere. His nose twitches, searching for a distant scent.
Pijiu: Now... To sate my bottomless thirst, might I trouble you to bring forth a local specialty of the village?
Villager 2: A local specialty?
You don't mean...
Vyrn: Wait a second! Just who are you anyway? And why do ya keep sayin' you're cursed?
The villagers soon return, carrying an ancient earthenware jar with great care.
Villager 2: This here Chestnut Cheer's been around longer'n dirt. We'd nearly forgotten about it, but... you knew?
Pijiu: To a connoisseur, even the faintest scent of spirits is as clear as a beacon across a thousand leagues.
Vyrn: That's... impressive. Wait, are you a dog or somethin'?
Villager 2: So... You're really fixin' to drink that?
Villager 2: Chestnut Cheer's got a reputation—ain't no soul'd touch it, even starvin'.
Pijiu: I beg to differ. The preservation is rather extraordinary. Though I wonder about the seal's erosion—wooden stoppers always pose a challenge for ancient brews.
With one swift motion, Pijiu strikes the jar's neck, cleanly shattering its top.
Pijiu: This will suffice. Pardon my impertinence.
Pijiu: Mng... Glug, glug, glug...
Lyria: W-wait! Isn't it dangerous to drink that much all at once?
Pijiu: Phew.
Villager 1: Y-you feelin' okay? Pijiu...
Pijiu: Marvelous.
Vyrn: Wha?
Pijiu: The chestnut aroma remains undiminished by time, its texture smooth and delicate. As for its potency... Let us not dwell on that.
Pijiu: Such depth of chestnut is exquisite. The balance of grain and malt could not have been easy, and the refinement in filtering is remarkable.
Pijiu: The labor and passion of your ancestors, embodied in this brew, speaks volumes of their dedication. Such tradition deserves reverence.
Pijiu: Though you spoke ill of it, I say discard your modesty. This is nothing short of a treasure.
Pijiu: To make spirits good, or to ruin them utterly—that choice belongs wholly to the hand that makes them. Take pride in the knowledge that your village is extraordinary.
Pijiu: When health has fully returned to you, I ask only this: Revive your craft. Let one taste not the glory of your forebears, but the vision of this village, alive and thriving in the present.
Villager 1: Y-yeah, we can do that! We'll bring back our old ways and make 'em shine again!
Villager 2: Seein' how much you enjoyed the Chestnut Cheer... I thought ya might want this little bottle too as a thank-you. Hope it does ya good, Pijiu.
Pijiu: Ah, this pleases me greatly. I shall carry it upon my waist and keep it ever at hand. You have my thanks, children of this land.
Vyrn: You sure are an easygoing guy, but it doesn't seem like you're up to anything shady either...
Lyria: I agree. Today's request led us to meet you, Pijiu... and I'm so glad we did.
Pijiu: My sentiments exactly. It is a fortuitous encounter, indeed. To share in revelry with you brings joy to one's heart.
Pijiu: Now, one final matter remains. This connoisseur humbly asks a favor of you.
Vyrn: Sure, as long as it's something we can manage. Wait—don't tell me it's about alcohol? We're not exactly experts on that!
Pijiu: Slay me.
Vyrn: Wha?

Beast of Calamity

Pijiu warps (Captain) and crew to his home of Dragon's Sanctum, an island covered in graves. After explaining that he cannot die because the Cardinal Saints failed in their duty of defeating the four beasts, Pijiu gives the crew a taste of the calamity that is sure to come.

The benevolent Pijiu, without any apparent rhyme or reason, utters a shocking plea for his own demise.
For a time, the crew is left in stunned disbelief, unable to comprehend Pijiu's request. He breaks the silence by raising his chalice to drink, prompting Vyrn to finally speak.
Vyrn: Th-this has to be some kinda mistake, right? There's no way you'd ask that...
Pijiu: Shall I say it again? End me. Bring an end to my existence.
Lyria: We... We can't! How could you expect us to do such a thing...
Vyrn: You must've had too much to drink... I mean, look at everyone—they're too shocked to even say a word.
Villagers: ...
Vyrn: What's goin' on? They're not just shocked, they're completely dazed...
Pijiu: My request would be poison to most mortals. Thus, I have restricted their awareness to a degree.
Vyrn: Wh-what the heck! Was this your plan from the beginning?
Pijiu: Fret not—they will soon be freed. Yet I see my inexplicable nature has stirred caution in you—an undesirable outcome.
Pijiu: I deeply regret my heedlessness. If your trust in me falters and the bond between us crumbles, it would be... troublesome for me.
Chichiri is a crew member, Uruki is a crew member, Shushuku is a crew member, Ami is a crew member, Koku is a crew member

Pijiu: You, who have vanquished the four cardinal beasts and gathered the yupei... You are my final hope.
Vyrn: Geez, just how much do you know about us...

Chichiri not in crew, Uruki not in crew, Shushuku not in crew, Ami not in crew, Koku not in crew

Pijiu: You, capable of taking the place of the Cardinal Saints, are the final hope entrusted to me.
Lyria: Cardinal Saints?

Villager 2: Whoa... Pijiu? Why's my head spinnin' like a tumbleweed...
Pijiu: Already? Perhaps a change of scenery is needed.
Pijiu downs his drink in one swift motion and gently pulls (Captain)'s group close to him.
The sudden embrace is startling, yet more disturbing is that (Captain) felt no hint of Pijiu's approach, as though the man had erased his very presence.
Villager 2: Well, shoot... Did I have too much to drink? What in tarnation were we doin' just a sec ago?
Pijiu: A most fine revelry this has been. Yet my business with these travelers calls me away. I wish you prosperity and abundance, my children.
Pijiu: My thanks for the additional bottle as well. May we meet again.
Vyrn: Hey, wait a sec—
Lyria: Gasp!
Wh-where are we right now?
Vyrn: This part of your power too?
Pijiu: Surely my abilities no longer surprise you. Anyone with even a fragment of talent could perform such a trivial feat.
Vyrn: Huh, I wonder about that...
Lyria: Huh?
Lyria: Wha...
A field of graves stretches endlessly before (Captain) and company.
Standing amid tombstones shaped like jagged spires, the crew once again find themselves overwhelmed with unease.
Pijiu: Hm, foolhardiness knows no bounds with me, does it? This is the first time I've brought guests here—it seems I forgot to make preparations.
Pijiu: One should have arranged something resembling a home, as mortals are wont to do. Ah, well. A minor matter.
Pijiu: This is my domain, otherwise known as Dragon's Sanctum.
Pijiu: This island sits unmoving within the Grim Basin. As you are the first guests I've ever welcomed here, I'm afraid the only refreshments on hand are spirits.
Lyria: The Grim Basin? But the atmosphere seems so peaceful here...
Pijiu: That is merely due to my efforts in keeping the sanctum stable. You need not worry—I shall safeguard you within its bounds.
Vyrn: So... wanna tell us what the deal with you is?
Vyrn: One moment it's miracles, the next, you're askin' us to kill ya. And now you've brought us to this grave-riddled place.
Pijiu: I have already told the truth unfaltering: I am an accursed existence.
Pijiu: An existence... capable of destroying the very skies.
Lyria: The skies?
Pijiu: I shall explain everything. You will understand why I must be slain.
Pijiu: The Cardinal Saints and beasts... Tell me: How much do you know of them?
Chichiri is a crew member, Uruki is a crew member, Shushuku is a crew member, Ami is a crew member, Koku is a crew member

Vyrn: We know a fair bit—we've heard plenty about them before.
Lyria: Pijiu, are you friends with the Cardinal Saints?
Pijiu: They are as my own children. You have my gratitude—for Koku as well. Are they well?
Lyria: They're... each dealing with difficult problems, I think. They're traveling with us right now.
Pijiu: Good. Let them savor those fleeting moments of joy while they can, for I have burdened them with so cruel a purpose.
Pijiu: Even should disaster loom on the horizon, may the gift of transient peace touch their hearts, however briefly.

Chichiri not in crew, Uruki not in crew, Shushuku not in crew, Ami not in crew, Koku not in crew

Lyria: No, I've never heard of them...
Pijiu: They are my children, forced to shoulder a cruel fate.
Pijiu: I shall spare you of the particulars. Rather, you should know of the disaster yet to come.
Continue 2
Lyria: Disaster?
Pijiu nods solemnly and casts his spirits upon the earth.
The soil, moistened by sacred droplets, begins to radiate light, and four talismans emerge from the ground, levitating in midair.
Pijiu: Arise, my children.
The four talismans flash brilliantly with light, causing the atmosphere to tremble as a powerful shift stirs.
Cardinal Beasts: ...!
Zhuque arises from the inferno's embrace, Qinglong cleaves the skies asunder, Baihu thunders forth with the earth's unrelenting rage, and Xuanwu rises with crystalline splendor.
Vyrn: Wh-what the!
What are they doin' here?
Cardinal Beasts: ...!
Lyria: Are they... angry? No... It's more like they're overwhelmed with sorrow...
Pijiu: A reflection of myself. Creatures bound by the duty to die, yet trapped, unable to fulfill their purpose, raging endlessly in despair.
Pijiu: It is because the Cardinal Saints failed in their roles that I, too, continue to live.
Vyrn: You sayin' these beasts are gonna calm down if you bite the dust?
Pijiu: Indeed.
Pijiu slowly brings his hands together in a firm clap.
Cardinal Beasts: ...!
The cardinal beasts' forms begin to warp, stretching and twisting like clay figures melting together, their essences merging into one.
Shenxian: ...!
The merged beast writhes in fury, summoning flames, stirring winds, cloaking itself in water, and shattering the earth as it surges toward the crew.
Vyrn: Urk!
Pijiu: A final curtain is drawn. Singularity—prove yourself worthy. Stand firm and cast it back.

Death Pact

Fediel and Zooey suddenly warp in to reveal Pijiu's true identity as Huanglong. Determined to neutralize him, (Captain) and company follow him through a portal, only to find themselves in a lively tavern.

Shenxian: ...!
The calamity summoned by Pijiu controls fire, water, earth, and wind, relentlessly driving the captain into a corner.
Lyria: Please... Lend me your strength, everyone!
(Captain) and Lyria call upon the power of primal beasts to subdue the calamity.
The once tranquil Dragon's Sanctum now brims with chaos so profound it evokes the end of the world itself.
Pijiu: That's enough.
Shenxian: ...
Pijiu, elegantly observing the battle, finishes the last of his bottle, after which the calamity bursts into oblivion as if it had never existed.
Pijiu: A magnificent display of strength. Forgive me, but this was the quickest path.
Pijiu: I wanted you to experience firsthand the power of the calamity resulting from the Cardinal Saints' inability to bring my end.
Pijiu: Though it was only a mimicry—just a fraction of the cataclysm to come. The curse that defines my very existence exceeds far beyond such trifles as that.
Pijiu: If one does not perish, the skies will be utterly annihilated.
Lyria: Oh no...
Pijiu: Singularity, you have the power to stop me.
Pijiu: This encounter is a blessing of fate. After all, you are a hero who's turned away countless threats to the skies.
Pijiu: I humbly ask of you: Repel the ruin descending upon this world. Take over for the Cardinal Saints and continue to strike down the four beasts.
Pijiu: If you do so, then I, too, shall finally perish. Please...
Pijiu: Grant me this kindness.
Lyria: I still don't fully understand... Pijiu, do you really mean it?
Vyrn: You say killin' ya stops the calamity, but there's gotta be some other way, right?
Pijiu: There is not. Only through my death can disaster be averted.
Vyrn: Then why ask us to begin with?
Vyrn: With all your crazy powers, you could probably control someone to do it...
Pijiu: No. So long as the cardinal beasts remain, I cannot die. The laws of death simply do not apply to me.
Pijiu: And despite my capabilities, compelling others to aid in my death would be far too cruel a task.
Vyrn: Except that "cruel task" is exactly what you're askin' us to do...
Pijiu: Indeed. I had initially entrusted the task to the Cardinal Saints, who are my children, but even they could not carry it out.
Pijiu: I deeply apologize for asking something so heartless of you. It weighs heavily on me.
Uruki is a crew member, Koku is a crew member

Pijiu: Even as I speak, the end approaches. Please, end my life.
  1. I refuse.

Choose: I refuse.
Pijiu: I see. You've spoken with my children, yes? Then you'll come to understand my true nature soon enough.
Pijiu: Your decision is valid. I won't deny that my children are suffering.
Lyria: Pijiu... Deep down, you don't really want to die, do you?

Uruki not in crew, Koku not in crew

Pijiu: Even as I speak, the end approaches. Please end my life.
Vyrn: You can't expect us to just agree to this!
Lyria: Um... Is there no other way? Surely there must be something...
Lyria: Pijiu... Deep down, you don't really want to die, do you?
Continue 1
Pijiu: A peculiar question. This is my fate—my purpose. To depart this life would be an honor.
Lyria: I... I just can't believe it. You go out of your way to help people, you love your drinks, and you appreciate the presents given to you...
Lyria: The thought of you accepting death to be your goal just doesn't seem right...
Pijiu: Believe it or don't—it matters little. The truth remains: My death is necessary.
The crew remains flabbergasted. Pijiu averts his gaze, turning to look at the sky.
Pijiu: What a lively day.
Vyrn: Huh?
Lyria: I-I know that portal! It's used by the Six Dragons!
No version of Fediel in crew

Fediel the Black—one of the Six Dragons who governs the laws of the world.
One of her portals manifests in thin air.
A dark-skinned arm emerges from the portal, firmly grabbing Pijiu's head without hesitation.
Fediel: How boldly you weave lies with such fluency.
Fediel: Your death would, in truth, be the very thing that sets this world beyond redemption.
Fediel: Isn't that right, Huanglong?
With a stern look on her face, Fediel keeps her grip on Pijiu's head and pulls him away from the crew.
As (Captain) and company remain speechless, another figure emerges from the warphole.
Zooey: (Captain)! Are you okay?
Vyrn: Zooey? What a surprise to see you with Fediel...
No version of Zooey in crew

Zooey—a primal beast born of the collective wishes of sky and star.
Though she once served as the arbitrator who keeps balance across the skies, she is now free from that role and travels alongside the crew.
Zooey: As it was difficult for me to reach this island in my current state, I borrowed Fediel's power to get here.
Zooey: I'm glad you're safe. Huanglong hasn't done anything to you, has he?
Lyria: Um... Huanglong? Do you mean Pijiu?
Vyrn: Other than ask us for one heck of a favor, no, not really...
Fediel: It's already too late. The question is: How far back does this go?
Pijiu: My curse has lingered in the skies for countless ages. When did it begin, truly?
Fediel: And it will bring the destruction of the skies. I hate to say it, but you're beyond redemption...
Pijiu: Indeed. Though, to clarify just one thing—it is not me, but my counterpart, causing devastation.
Pijiu: I exist solely to protect the skies. That much is true; there is no falsehood in that.
Fediel: ...
This conversation is going nowhere.
Pijiu: We have both adopted mortal forms and learned to converse in modern speech. And yet... It seems we still fail to see eye to eye. How sad.
Fediel: Hah, you're one to talk. It's time I dragged you down from your little stage once and for all.
Fediel reopens the portal and disappears into its depths with Pijiu, whom she calls Huanglong.
Zooey: ...
Lyria: Um, Zooey... What exactly is going on here?
Lyria: Things have been so confusing ever since meeting Pijiu...
Zooey: Pijiu... Is that what he called himself? The truth is, he is nothing less than a weapon meant to destroy the skies—Huanglong.
Vyrn: A weapon, huh... To be fair, he did say he's cursed.
Zooey: That much is true; he was honest about that. But it seems he wasn't forthcoming about the crux of the matter.
Zooey: Huanglong himself has occupied the skies for centuries on end, endlessly spreading his curse across the world.
Lyria: Spreading his curse? Pijiu did that?
Zooey: Huanglong isn't a primal beast, but an artificial weapon designed to mimic the Omnipotent—a deeply loathsome existence.
Zooey: The disasters caused by Huanglong... I can't even begin to imagine the destruction. He must be stopped at all costs.
Vyrn: Guy said he wants to stop the disasters though... That he can only do so by kickin' the bucket...
Vyrn: But then how's he the one behind the whole mess? None of this makes a lick of sense!
Zooey: I share Fediel's goal. We are here for one reason—to neutralize Huanglong.
Zooey steps toward the portal Fediel opened, ready to follow her path.
However, her footsteps pause as she lays eyes on the countless grave markers before her.
Zooey: Graves... What is the meaning of this? Whose graves are these?
Vyrn: Pijiu didn't say, but it sure is overwhelming how many there are, huh...
Zooey: Overwhelming... Yes, they are.
Zooey: Lyria, you mentioned feeling confused. I share the sentiment.
Zooey displays clear signs of hesitation but proceeds through the portal.
Vyrn: We oughta get going too! If this is part of the Grim Basin, we won't be able to get back if we're left behind.
Vyrn: Except those two said they'd neutralize Pijiu... Means they plan on fightin' him, right?
Vyrn: We'd better stay alert, (Captain)!
With weapon at the ready, the captain ventures through the door alongside Vyrn and the others.
And on the other side lies...
A bustling tavern filled with the lively voices of drunken patrons—a humble sanctuary for common folk.
Lyria: Huh? This place... Um... what's going on?
Pijiu: Ah, you've arrived, Singularity. I've reserved seats for us. I'm bringing water now.
Vyrn: Wait, hold up—what? Weren't we supposed to be fightin'?
Pijiu: And why, pray tell, would there be a need to fight?
Vyrn: I mean... didn't Zooey and Fediel say they were gonna neutralize you?
Pijiu: Save the long discussions for when the drinks are served. Your two friends have already been guided to this place.
Pijiu: Come, let us take our seats and raise a toast. The food here is sure to please your palates. After all, one of my children runs this very establishment.
The man labeled as a calamity carries a tray laden with glasses of water for everyone, all while gracefully retreating to his seat.
Lyria: The water's... um, self-serve, I guess.
Vyrn: Argh! I'm so confused—none of this is making any sense!
(Captain) shuffles over to the table, visibly puzzled as well.

Supernatural Feast

At the tavern, Pijiu relates his curse: All who live by his blessings, along with their descendants, are bound to him by a life link—if he dies, they perish too. A debate over what is best for both him and the skies ensues.

Vyrn & Lyria: ...
Fediel: Glug, glug... Phew. You're quite the vexing nuisance. Do you even have mortal traits? Male, perhaps?
Pijiu: I simply mimicked the form of my creator.
Pijiu: Not so different from you, really. Here, sip on this. You look like someone who can enjoy a good drink.
Fediel: On that note, is your generous offering of food and drink actually safe to consume? Perhaps this calls for an investigation.
Pijiu: Alcohol is one of mankind's most magnificent cultural creations.
Pijiu: Though I may be an accursed being, I would never dare to defile mortal creativity in any way.
Fediel: Well, perhaps today of all days, I should let loose. As mortals would say...
Fediel: Sometimes you just need a drink to keep going. I've had enough of beings that disrupt the balance of life and death.
Pijiu: It seems we share that sentiment. I've carried this burden for countless ages. One, too, needs many a drink to endure it all.
Pijiu: Today, however, I drink not out of despair. Rather, I consider this an opportunity for revelry with one of the Six Dragons.
Pijiu: Try this fruit beer. I think you'll like it. The creativity of my children is evident—quite fascinating, really.
Fediel: Yes, I'd have to agree... The refreshing aroma blends remarkably well with the stimulating flavor.
Lyria: W-we're really drinking, not fighting...
Vyrn: Can we get a little sense of urgency back? Fediel, you mentioned disruptin' the balance of life and death... What's that even mean?
Pijiu: Allow me to demonstrate.
Without hesitation, Pijiu calmly places his hands against his own neck.
Realizing immediately what is about to happen, (Captain) instinctively covers Lyria's eyes to shield her.
Lyria: Ah! (Captain), what are you—
Zooey: Immortal you may be, yet you perform such actions without the slightest hesitation.
Hearing Zooey's disapproval, Pijiu swiftly recovers with surprising composure, returning his head to its rightful place.
Lyria: Wait, wh-what's going on! What just happened?
Pijiu: Ah, was that too crude? Forgive me, but this was the quickest way.
Vyrn: What the... You look like that didn't sting a bit...
Pijiu: Unfortunately, yes.
Fediel: Truly a vexing existence and, in every sense, beyond redemption.
Vyrn: So you meant it when you said we've gotta keep beatin' the cardinal beasts for ya to take a dirt nap, huh...
Pijiu: All for the sake of protecting the skies. As much as one wishes to shuffle off this mortal coil, it is not so easy—in fact, it is unbearably disheartening.
Pijiu: I had hoped the dragon who embodies the principles of death might provide an answer, but of course, it was too much to expect.
Fediel: Even if I could help, there's no way I'd do it willingly. Your death would put the very life force of the skies in jeopardy.
Vyrn: Feels like we're goin' in a loop! What's really goin' on here?
Vyrn: Pijiu wants to be pushin' up daisies in order to stop some calamity...
Vyrn: But Fediel says that if he dies, we'd all be worse for the wear.
Zooey: (Captain), Lyria... your lives are connected, correct?
Zooey: Huanglong is also connected to lives he creates, much like you two are.
Zooey: And this link spreads like a sickness.
Fediel: Anyone who's accepted life of Huanglong's creation...
Fediel: In other words, those who partake of the blessings Huanglong offers also establish a form of life link with him.
Lyria: S-so that means... if Pijiu were to die...
Fediel: The countless lives Huanglong has blessed so far would perish with him.
Fediel: To put it in mortal terms, it's like a death pact that was never consented to.
Vyrn: Th-that's Pijiu's curse?
Pijiu: Indeed. You could say it is the price for one's power of birth.
Fediel: As Huanglong has been saying, continually defeating the cardinal beasts may eventually send him to the afterlife.
Pijiu: Indeed.
Vyrn: "Indeed," my butt! If we go along with your plan, who knows how many people would be dragged along with ya!
Fediel: You misunderstand, Red Dragon. This isn't something far removed from you.
Fediel: The Singularity and many in your crew are already bound by the curse.
Pijiu: My curse spreads down through generations. Even if your allies aren't directly linked to me, it's possible their ancestors were affected by my will at some point.
Vyrn: So everyone's basically swindled into this curse... And if they got kids, those kids are cursed too?
Lyria: How awful... How did things get like this?
Zooey: ...
Pijiu: The drinks here are excellent. Gentle soul, you should try some as well.
Zooey: I am not in the mood. Not to mention, I do not drink.
Pijiu: That's fine. If the local spirits are this remarkable, then it follows that the water, fruit, wheat, and rice must also be magnificent.
Pijiu: Would you care for some juice? There must be something here you'd like. That goes for you as well, Singularity.
Pijiu: The history of this town, the passion of its people, their struggles—it is all conveyed in what they create. You're certain to appreciate it.
Zooey: Huanglong... you... No, perhaps I should say...
Zooey hesitates for a moment, then glances back and forth between (Captain) and Fediel.
Fediel: You now understand what I meant when I called him "vexing," yes?
Zooey: To be honest... when I first learned of Huanglong's existence and of his intent to take countless lives with him...
Zooey: I thought him to be a hopelessly evil being.
Zooey: Except it's not quite that simple. He transcends concepts of good and evil, and I understand why Fediel finds him so perplexing.
Fediel: The Astrals truly left behind endless troubles for this fragile world of the skies, didn't they...
Zooey: Indeed... but this particular disaster's at least willing to talk. Let us speak plainly, Huanglong.
Zooey: I imagine that's why you're sharing drinks with him, Fediel?
Fediel: ...
Zooey: Okay then, I'll take a recommendation. Something fizzy would be nice.
Pijiu: Very well. This town has refined techniques for carbonation—it's truly remarkable.
Pijiu: Let me go place the order directly with the owner, who will no doubt be pleased.
With a calm demeanor, Pijiu rises from his seat and steps away.
The crew silently watches Huanglong's retreating figure, struggling to fully grasp the enigmatic being.

For Whom One Drinks

Born from the vestiges of fallen skydwellers, Pijiu is driven by their vengeful cries. He believes his death is required to destroy the living weapon Qilin, even at the cost of countless lives. (Captain) and their allies pursue him to Dragon's Sanctum to uncover his true intentions.

Pijiu carries dishes and drinks to the table with all the natural grace of a seasoned waiter.
Soon after, a small group of people follows behind him, displaying clear admiration and fondness toward the man.
Shopkeeper: I'm terribly sorry for having you help out. You've done so much for my husband... And here you are bringing your friends along too!
Pijiu: It fills me with joy to see one of my children's establishments thriving.
Customer: Haha, there it is again, calling us your kids. It sounds awkward, though not unpleasant.
Customer: You know, you've gotten so much easier to talk to compared to before. It really helps.
Pijiu: All for the sake of speaking with these people. Should I revert to my old ways?
Customer: Nah, best not to. Seriously, it was a ton harder to understand you back then.
Vyrn: Looks like these guys had the same thought I did.
Customer: By the way, you should drop by my place sometime. We've got a new puppy, and we named it after you!
Pijiu: How delightful. I promise I'll visit.
Fediel: They seem to adore you quite a bit, don't they?
Customer: Course we do! Ages ago, this fella saved the town from a massive fire!
Shopkeeper: He used his powers to stop the fire. Even restored the scorched forest in an instant.
Customer: And guess what—my family dog's the offspring of a rescue he cared for! Honestly, we can't thank him enough for what he's done for us.
Lyria: The people of this town were saved by him too...
Vyrn: Which means the locals here also got his curse...
Pijiu: This gathering ends here. I still have matters to attend to.
Pijiu gently ushers the others away.
Zooey: Pijiu... You do understand that if you were to die, those you command the respect of would follow suit, yes?
Pijiu: It is a necessary sacrifice.
Zooey: Necessary, you say...
Pijiu: For the sake of protecting this sky. From both myself and Qilin.
Pijiu: My death would also mean Qilin's death. To end Qilin, I must perish alongside those connected to me.
Pijiu: Though you are focused on my nature, the true danger resides within Qilin. It is the embodiment of destruction.
Fediel: Qilin, is it? Though from what I see, it doesn't seem poised to become a threat to the skies.
Pijiu: That's likely due to its weakening, guided by my efforts.
Pijiu: Yet should Qilin recover, not even the combined might of (Captain)'s crew, the Six Dragons, and the archangels could hope to stop it.
Fediel: Oh? You seem quite confident in your assessment. Even the mighty can be undone by arrogance.
Pijiu: It is not arrogance but reality. Qilin leads only to the result of extinction. If revived, no force could oppose it.
Vyrn: So Qilin's that dangerous, huh?
Pijiu: It should not have been created. It is an abomination, a cursed weapon born purely of madness. The same applies to myself.
Pijiu: Both Qilin and I were created by a deranged Astral who sought to remake the sky, imitating gods and crafting anomalous weapons.
Pijiu: Thus, I divided my strength, along with Qilin's, into the cardinal beasts I forged myself, and assigned the Cardinal Saints the task of opposing them.
Pijiu: Only through this can Qilin and I continue to weaken and eventually die. In doing so, the sky will be preserved.
Pijiu: Once again, I ask you to take the place of the Cardinal Saints. Continue defeating the four beasts. And when the time comes, end me.
Zooey: Before deciding whether to cooperate, I need clarity.
Zooey: I understand Qilin's a threat. But you are of the same nature—an equally dangerous weapon. Why, then, do you seek to protect the sky?
Pijiu: I have always heard the voices.
Zooey: Voices?
Pijiu: Protect it. Protect it, protect it, protect it. Let no harm befall the sky; ensure that the azure skies exist for all time.
Pijiu: Even now, I hear those voices—a chorus of anguish and resentment. They belong to the lives of the sky, who were killed as a sacrifice.
Fediel: I had my suspicions, but could you be...
Pijiu: Yes—I am the remains of those lost lives, molded and brought into existence.
Pijiu: No doubt, even my creator himself didn't foresee the remnants of life retaining a will after death.
Zooey: That explains why I couldn't sense your presence.
Fediel: Despite being born of the Astrals' design, your nature is akin to ours. You've become one with the sky, making it impossible for us to perceive you.
Vyrn: I get it... I think I finally get what you're all about...
Vyrn: But it sure is weird though. You talk about how you've gotta kick the bucket, yet at the same time, you spread your curse all over.
Zooey: Saving people and forging connections with them only increases the number of lives that will perish with you.
Pijiu: Then what would you have me do? Ignore those who suffer and are in need?
Lyria: Th-that's not what we're saying. But... the people you save end up cursed by their connection to you...
Lyria: That means when you die, the villagers earlier, the people in this town, and even the Cardinal Saints would all have to die too!
Lyria: Every life you've touched follows you in death! Doesn't that bother you at all?
Pijiu: What a peculiar thought. My own sense of will has no bearing on this.
Pijiu: Moreover, only the lives directly linked to me would die. From the entire sky's perspective, the number lost would be insignificant.
Pijiu picks up a spirits bottle and pours it halfway into a cup.
The bottle swishes in his hands, its contents sloshing audibly.
Pijiu: Even if most of the content is consumed, as long as a single drop remains, the bottle still has its purpose. The same is true for the sky.
Pijiu: Between saving the many lives connected to me and preserving the skies, I will always prioritize the latter.
Pijiu: Wouldn't you agree, Fediel? After all, if a situation arose where all of the Six Dragons had to act in concert, it would mean the sky is already in grave danger.
Fediel: Having our own egos now, we would likely still see the situation as one worthy of intervention...
Fediel: Yet it's also true that despite the countless lives to be lost from your death, the sky would endure. Destruction and rebirth are woven into the sky's existence.
Pijiu: Indeed. Everyone connected to me will meet their end. Together with me.
Pijiu: There is no other way.
Lyria: I can't make sense of this at all. Your reasoning doesn't answer the question...
Lyria: You go out of your way to save people with kindness, and then you so plainly talk about them dying. I just don't get it...
Lyria: Pijiu! What are you even thinking!
  1. I'm just as clueless.
  2. How hollow...

Choose: I'm just as clueless.
Pijiu: That is acceptable. There is no need for you to understand.
Zooey: I, however, do understand where you're coming from.
Zooey: You... don't think very deeply about things, do you?

Choose: How hollow...
Fediel: Mm-hm, that's certainly one way to put it.
Zooey: You... don't think very deeply about things, do you?

Pijiu: Hm.
Pijiu pauses for a moment before finishing his cup in silence.
As the cup empties, he gazes forward with equally empty eyes before speaking again.
Pijiu: Exactly.
Vyrn: Huh?
Pijiu: The truth is, one does not have a care in the world.
Vyrn: Wh-what are you even sayin'! Just when I thought I was startin' to make sense of ya, you throw this nonsense at us...
Pijiu: The skies, the stars, my children's lives, Qilin—even myself. None of it matters.
Pijiu: After all, one is merely a weapon—a vessel inexplicably imbued with the lingering wills of the dead.
Pijiu: So long as this constant whisper of anguish is fulfilled, nothing else matters.
Pijiu: The lives of one's children are inconsequential, however many of them are lost. Preservation of the skies is the only goal.
Lyria: That's just...
Pijiu: I only seek to fulfill my duty.
Pijiu: If the deaths of the Cardinal Saints and everyone else connected to me ensures the survival of the skies, then let it happen.
Lyria: That's not right... That's not right at all!
Vyrn: I'm startin' to grasp why we can't see eye to eye...
Vyrn: You might be able to communicate, but you don't really see the emotions behind it all.
Vyrn: Everything about ya—your way of thinkin', feelin', seein' the world... it's nothing like normal people. You really are a monster...
Fediel: ...
Pijiu: The evening approaches. Let us end this gathering.
Pijiu: Till we meet again.
Lyria: W-wait! Pijiu!
Pijiu rises from his seat and opens a portal, similar to the one created by Fediel.
With a gentle wave toward the crew, Pijiu steps forward and disappears into it.
Vyrn: What are we even supposed to do? Guy's a monster...
Zooey: A monster, huh...
Zooey: Though I wonder—do monsters create graves?
Fediel: Graves?
Vyrn: You didn't notice, Fediel? Guy's got endless graves lined up on his island.
Lyria: Graves... Zooey seemed curious about them too. Whose graves are they?
Lyria: Each one is well-maintained, with flowers placed on them.
Zooey: Names were etched into the tombstones, every single one...
Zooey: It's likely only the Six Dragons or Pijiu himself can access the island.
Vyrn: Meanin' he's the one keepin' those graves spick-and-span?
Zooey: Indeed. But would a mere monster go to the effort of remembering names and honoring the dead?
Fediel: Sigh... What a sorrowful existence...
Vyrn: Sorrowful? What makes ya say that?
Fediel: If you want to uncover the truth, then there's only one thing to do.
Fediel: We must pursue him—not out of duty but out of the curiosity in our hearts.
  1. Agreed.

Choose: Agreed.
Zooey: Fediel, can you create a portal? Maybe there's still a chance.
Zooey: Pijiu... He feels similar to me.
Zooey: Similar to what I was, before you named me Zooey—before I was fully myself.
(Captain) nods and steps through the portal created by Fediel, heading for Dragon's Sanctum.

The Undying Banquet of Life

Pijiu is paying his respects to the graves on Dragon's Sanctum when the crew shows up. They urge him to recognize his own mortal nature, but he claims his feelings belong to the dead who created him. Frustrated, he raises his blade against the crew, demanding to be slain.

The crew steps through Fediel's portal in pursuit of Pijiu.
Upon arriving at Dragon's Sanctum, they see Pijiu using his powers to create flowers, carefully placing each one on the graves scattered across the island.
Lyria: He's paying respect to the graves...
Fediel: Beyond redemption, eh...
Pijiu: Though my daily ritual is not yet complete, I welcome your visit.
Pijiu: I somehow doubt you followed me here to invite me to a second round of drinks.
Pijiu: Perhaps you've had a change of heart. Are you here to take the place of the Cardinal Saints and end my life?
Vyrn: That's not happening, and you know it... We're here to...
  1. We wanna know you better.
  2. You contradict yourself.

Choose: We wanna know you better.
Zooey: Pijiu... you've shared much with us. I believe what you told us is all true.
Fediel: However, your deepest thoughts remain unspoken. We cannot say we truly know you.

Choose: You contradict yourself.
Pijiu: ...
Lyria: Exactly! Pijiu, you say and do things that are completely opposite. Please tell us your true feelings!
Continue 1
Pijiu: I thought I had shared everything...
Zooey: You don't mind the death of many if it means protecting the skies, yet you step in to save those who are suffering.
Zooey: Why? Why do you help people? Why do you build graves and honor those you claim don't matter?
Lyria: Calling those who don't matter your children is strange... And the way you interact with the people you've saved...
Lyria: The way you address the Cardinal Saints as your children...
Lyria: You seem so gentle, so caring...
Pijiu: Ah, I see. My actions have appealed to your sentimentality.
Pijiu: I take it you must be drunk.
Zooey: We are most certainly not. We're serious, Pijiu.
Pijiu: Is that so? What a pity. Then, you wish to save everything?
Pijiu: You even wish to save me as well, don't you? How utterly pointless.
Lyria: It's not pointless!
Lyria: Pijiu, you're definitely extraordinary in many ways.
Lyria: But more than that...
Lyria: You're deeply sad and pitiful...
Pijiu: Oh?
Zooey: You don't hesitate to sacrifice lives to fulfill your role and protect the skies. But that's because you have no other choice...
Zooey: You were born into this sky, yet all you can do is wait for death.
Fediel: An unforgivable existence, yet one that stirs more pity than disdain, avatar of Huanglong.
Pijiu: ...
Zooey: I love pie.
Pijiu: A good thing, though rather unexpected.
Zooey: Your fondness for alcohol is likely the same—it's a sense of attachment, isn't it?
Zooey: I, too, once existed merely with a role to fulfill. I held no affection for mankind.
Zooey: But things have changed. As Zooey now, I love pie, and I love (Captain) and everyone else in the crew.
Pijiu: I see. So I could also become Pijiu, in a manner of speaking.
Lyria: That's right... Not Huanglong, but be the you who gets to cherish your children as much you want!
Pijiu: Haha.
Pijiu: Hahahahaha! Ahahahaha! Pfft-hahaha!
Lyria: P-Pijiu?
Pijiu: Amusing! Truly amusing! Ah, this may be the first time I've laughed so wholeheartedly in all my years.
Pijiu: For so long, I've lived as neither dead nor alive, mocked and condemned by my children, but pity... Pity is new.
Pijiu: It's tragic, truly. You are free to hope, free to imagine. But the facts remain unchanged.
Pijiu: Your observations are correct. I do possess a heart—a mortal heart, just like yours.
Pijiu: But then again, consider how many remains were piled up to create the accursed being before you.
Pijiu: Not hundreds, not thousands—a number beyond counting. The lives within me endlessly swirl and churn.
Pijiu: There are hearts—countless hearts. But just as the small Red Dragon said, I have no way of knowing them.
Pijiu: Among the myriad hearts of others, my own heart is practically nonexistent. How could one like myself possibly understand?
Lyria: Well...
Pijiu: Saving suffering mortals, honoring my fallen children through graves...
Pijiu: All of it. It's simply the mortal hearts that compel me to do so, guiding me with their lingering resentment. I merely act upon them.
Pijiu: In the end, I remain indifferent. Entirely indifferent... which is why...
Pijiu: I ask to die.
Vyrn: Good grief, Pijiu...
Pijiu: It seems our discussion is meaningless after all. There is only one thing left to do. I hope this will help you fully understand.
Pijiu raises his chalice high toward the sky, and with that gesture, the skies split apart.
Huanglong & Qilin: ...!
Vyrn: What in the...
Fediel: Unable to die, yet continuing to rampage—mere shells stripped of their purpose.
Pijiu: Yet still useful all the same.
The two living weapons writhe and twist, merging together into droplets that pour into the chalice Pijiu holds.
Pijiu drinks deeply from the chalice, unleashing an oppressive and ominous force.
Pijiu: A hollow vessel, lacking depth and substance. Even with the favor of this unholy brew, I cannot reach perfection, but I can still become a calamity.
Pijiu: You shall know firsthand what it means to stand before an accursed being.
Zooey: Stop... Don't do this. We have no intention of fighting you.
Pijiu draws his blade, causing the crew members to clutch their necks. Such is the sheer menace radiating from the cursed man.
Vyrn: Wait, what... Did he just cut me?
Fediel: It is merely pressure. Do not be shaken.
With a compassionate smile still gracing his lips, Pijiu calmly approaches (Captain) and company, each step deliberate and measured.
Every step he takes causes the land beneath him to wither and crumble as the air in the surroundings tightens, thick with dread.
(Captain)'s honed instincts cry out—an unmistakable warning. Death is closing in.
Fediel: Singularity, let me confirm—do you have any intention of fighting?
  1. No...

Choose: No...
Fediel: Then focus entirely on defense. We shall do our utmost to protect you—
Before anyone can react further, Pijiu appears towering before them, his form looming even higher than Fediel's as he looks down at the crew silently.
Zooey: (Captain)!
(Captain) starts at Zooey's voice. The captain gazes upwards to find Zooey and Fediel holding Pijiu's blade back—an attack the captain didn't even see happen.
Fediel: What's this? No further attempts to follow through? Stopping it nearly feels like a waste of effort.
Fediel: With this much restraint, you can hardly call yourself a calamity. From where I stand, all I see is pity—nothing more than a pitiful being.
Pijiu: Pity, you say?
Lyria: P-Pijiu... Do you remember what you said about alcohol? You said something really important...
Vyrn: Yeah, you said alcohol ain't good or evil—it's just there. Well... Can't we say the same for livin' weapons?
  1. We want to help you.

Choose: We want to help you.
Pijiu: ...
Zooey: Being born in itself isn't a sin. That's something I want to believe.
Vyrn: I'll admit, at first I thought their sympathy for ya was just their kindness talkin'.
Vyrn: But now that I understand ya a little better, I wanna lend a hand too.
Pijiu: I see.
Pijiu: So I truly appear pitiful in your eyes. In any case, it makes little difference to me.
Pijiu: None of this matters at all.
Pijiu murmurs his apathy, yet his grip on the blade tightens.
The ground beneath Fediel and Zooey begins to crack under their own weight as they struggle against Pijiu.
Zooey: Ngh... Fediel!
Fediel: What an exhausting predicament we face, truly!
The two deflect Pijiu's blade, yet the accursed being's composure remains unshaken. With a calm and almost elegant motion, he raises his chalice once more.
Despite the grace of his movement, the aura surrounding him is anything but refined—it's an oppressive and suffocating force that heightens every hair on (Captain)'s body in alarm.
Fediel: Singularity, if you wish to protect lives, you must accept the need to fight back!
Fediel: If this continues, staying purely on the defensive may no longer be viable...
Zooey: Brace yourselves—he's coming again!

The Undying Banquet of Life: Scene 2

During battle, the brew gifted to Pijiu earlier falls to the ground. He stops to retrieve the bottle, which allows him to realize his own capacity for love and attachment. Rejecting his despair, Pijiu decides to stop Qilin alongside (Captain), vowing to protect the skies and the lives he values.

The crew struggles to defend against the relentless attacks from Pijiu, each strike carrying the weight of certain death.
Pijiu: You truly have no intention of fighting back, do you? Then this is meaningless. One must take things a step further.
Pijiu: I raise the chalice.
The air around Pijiu shifts, his murderous intent sharpening like a blade. Fediel's expression changes, sensing the escalating danger.
Fediel: Forgive me, but I must break my restraints. This cannot be allowed.
Fediel: I may need to tear him apart limb from limb to stop him—otherwise, the Singularity's life could vanish entirely!
Fediel charges forward with enough force to split the sky itself, unintentionally knocking loose a small bottle tied to Pijiu's waist.
Vyrn: Wait, that's the souvenir...
  1. You dropped your bottle, Pijiu!

Choose: You dropped your bottle, Pijiu!
Zooey: Huh?
Pijiu: What?
Caught off guard, Pijiu lets out an uncharacteristically baffled sound.
Before Fediel can take further action, Pijiu sheathes his blade and reaches down, catching the bottle before it hits the ground.
Pijiu: What is this?
Fediel: This reaction of yours... to suddenly become so docile... I was barely able to stop myself.
Fediel: What is that you're clutching?
Pijiu: Spirits.
Fediel: Huh, I suspected as much...
Lyria: It's a specialty from the village Pijiu saved. They gave it to him as a souvenir...
Zooey: I see. So instead of continuing the battle or proving your nature as a weapon, you prioritized the safety of that alcohol instead.
Zooey: You really do feel attachment when it comes to alcohol...
Pijiu: Attachment...
Lyria: You've always claimed not to understand emotions. You said you didn't have a heart of your own...
Vyrn: But throwin' aside the fight just to save that bottle? That's not somethin' a heartless being would do if you ask me.
Pijiu: ...
Fediel: Perhaps you simply haven't realized it yet.
Fediel: Your cursed nature and the calamity you bring still cannot be ignored. However...
Fediel: The way you interact with mortals, the compassion you show toward life in the skies—those gentle eyes of yours...
Fediel: It's something even we Six Dragons share. More than alcohol, isn't it mortals that you truly care for?
Fediel: Your every word about the history and craftsmanship behind alcohol is proof enough.
Vyrn: Yeah. What she said.
Pijiu: The labor and passion of your ancestors, embodied in this brew, speaks volumes of their dedication. Such tradition deserves reverence.
Pijiu: Try this fruit beer. I think you'll like it. The creativity of my children is evident—quite fascinating, really.
Pijiu: The history of this town, the passion of its people, their struggles—it is all conveyed in what they create. You're certain to appreciate it.
Vyrn: Every time alcohol came up, you'd talk about the people who made it.
Pijiu: ...
Pijiu: Kind soul, tell me—if you could never eat pie again, would you feel sorrow?
Zooey: Absolutely. Is it not the same with you?
Pijiu: Hm.
Pijiu: Alcohol is great. Through it, one can experience the history, the way of life, and the struggles of mankind—all through this form.
Pijiu: Because the Cardinal Saints have failed to fulfill their duties, my senses of smell and taste have gradually returned. Even so, they are faint—almost nonexistent.
Lyria: Oh...
Pijiu: And yet... Yet I still find myself unable to refrain from drinking.
Pijiu: To me, it is a way to understand mortals—to know them through something tangible. So perhaps... as you said...
Pijiu: Attachment, was it?
Pijiu: That may be where my desire to create resting places for the souls of my fallen children comes from.
Pijiu: The act of building graves was not led by the voices of resentment ringing within me.
Pijiu: But rather, perhaps it was because I mourn them. Could this be... my heart?
Vyrn: You don't just go visitin' graves every day if they don't matter to ya.
Pijiu: In truth, none of it feels real. Even now, I can still think that none of it matters.
Pijiu: Nonetheless...
Pijiu: Chichiri, Ami, Shushuku, Uruki.
Zhuque, Qinglong, Baihu, Xuanwu.
And my other half who has earned a name, Koku.
Pijiu: Countless connections have formed across my many children. If attachment to those I care about could eliminate the need for their deaths, allowing them freedom...
Pijiu: It would unquestionably be preferable. After all, losing them is sorrowful.
Lyria: Then there's hope yet!
Pijiu: Safeguarding the skies remains nonnegotiable. And part of that is ensuring my death. Without it, Qilin's downfall cannot occur.
Vyrn: Fair enough, but still...
Pijiu: Rest assured—I will cease recklessly pursuing my own end. Likewise, I will stop forcing my burdens upon the Cardinal Saints and try to mitigate spread of my curse.
Fediel: You really mean that? What will you do then?
Pijiu: Who knows?
Vyrn: That all you've got to say?
Pijiu: You were the ones who stopped me. Show me the way forward. You must take responsibility.
Pijiu: One knows of no way to halt the chain of causality that has already begun.
Pijiu: Could halting the origin of such causality itself be the answer? Perhaps so, but...
Fediel: Haha, I can already imagine Orologia collapsing from the shock of hearing this.
Pijiu: That poor soul likely teeters on the edge of collapse anyhow, simply because of my existence.
Fediel: Oh? You know Orologia?
Pijiu: I am aware of the time wedge's existence, yes. Just as I am aware of you other wedges.
Fediel: I see. Despite being already weakened by severe overwork, Orologia was determined to find a solution to your conundrum. It's a good thing I bound our fellow dragon to a chair for some good rest.
Pijiu: Compassionate, indeed. Perhaps later you can take one of my children's special brews as a gift—it may bring some comfort amid the weariness.
Vyrn: Hold on, things got way too peaceful all of a sudden. You mentioned wantin' to stop this problem at its root, but is that even possible?
Pijiu: It is merely an analogy—a depiction of what must be done to open the path forward.
Pijiu: Surely, you have encountered something similar before—something without inherent good or evil, much like myself.
Pijiu: Perhaps one needn't rely on such power directly, but surely, there is something—some alternative—that can serve one's purpose.
He fills his chalice with water and gently brings it to (Captain)'s lips.
Pijiu: Originally, such rituals were conducted with spirits, but here, I have used nothing more than water—a simple variation.
Pijiu: I seek an oath. Since you have stopped my death, will you promise to save my children?
Pijiu: And to save the sky?
  1. I promise.

Choose: I promise.
Pijiu: I have heard your vow. Now drink—let us seal this pact.
As (Captain) finishes the drink, Pijiu follows suit, drinking from his own vessel to complete the ceremony.
Pijiu: I, too, swear to uphold my promise.
Pijiu: Hurry now. Since I myself have abandoned my role, Qilin's role can only accelerate.
Pijiu: Even a named half replete with heart can do little to slow it down.
Pijiu: Let us end this hell—together.
Pijiu: This decision is not guided by lingering resentment. No... it stems from something deeper: My love for spirits... and for my children.
Pijiu: And it was reached entirely of my own will.
Zooey: Pijiu...
Pijiu: Feel free to join me in my daily ritual if you wish. Perhaps you can offer a prayer for the souls of my departed children as well.
Pijiu: I'll tell you their names... And perhaps, I'll place pie before their graves as a token of remembrance.
(Captain) and company nod in agreement, accompanying Pijiu in honoring the many past generations of Cardinal Saints who have since perished.
Pijiu takes the time to introduce each of those laid to rest, causing a fiery resolve to burn within (Captain).
The captain vows to save the Cardinal Saints, Pijiu, and all those afflicted by his curse—no matter what it takes.
