Happy Birthday Cutscenes
# Link Text
1

Oh, it's your birthday today, right? Happy birthday, Captain.
I prepared this for you, seeing as it's your special day and all.
Don't worry! It's not wine. It may look like it, but even a child could drink this.

2

Happy birthday to you, (Captain).
The crew is growing as fast as you are. But I'll admit, I take joy in watching over you.
Heh... Never thought I'd say that, huh?

3

Today's your birthday, eh? Happy birthday, (Captain).
...
You've truly grown... As would be expected, having spent three years with you.
I pray that when this day comes next year, it finds you well. The time I spend considering how I can support you more is precious to me.
I think I've said too much... Why don't we head down to the feast? Everyone's waiting for you.

4

(Captain), happy birthday.
Much preparation went into today's dinner party.
I did what I could with the decorations.
I imagine it to be a great feeling to have everyone pin their hopes and expectations on you.
But the pressure to perform is surely equally great.
Whenever it becomes too much, you can count on me... Or rather, any one of us in the crew.
We're always watching you. I hope you never forget that.
Off to the party then. Everyone awaits your presence.

5

Happy birthday, (Captain). This makes the fifth time we've celebrated your birthday together.
You've added many allies to your crew in that time.
It's true that each new crew member adds to your responsibilities as captain.
But I think you've performed your role admirably, and never let them down.
I'm glad I've had the chance to watch you grow, and to celebrate these important occasions with you.
I'll be here to celebrate it next year and the year after. I'm looking forward to the birthday when we can actually lift a glass together.

Happy New Year Cutscenes

1

Oh, it's you, (Captain). The new year has begun! I was looking forward to seeing the first dawn, so I stayed on the deck.
I hope that I can see it again next year right beside you.

2

Why are you up, (Captain)? The sun's not yet up.
Me? I was having a bit to drink and decided to get some fresh air. Then I thought I'd stay and watch the sunrise.
Ah, there were a few of us still up and chatting. Did we wake you?
I suppose we got a little carried away. My apologies. We were having fun, but didn't mean to cause a ruckus.
It reminded me of old times... Good times. Maybe one day you can join us when you're older!

3

Back again, eh, (Captain)?
Well, we seem to run into each other here every year. So I had a feeling I'd see you, and I was right!
I guess you could say I just enjoy talking with you about our crew and the journey ahead of us. So before I knew it, my feet had led me here...
This year's a bit chilly though... You be sure to keep warm. You're our one and only captain after all.

4

You wish to engage in a game of badminton? Are you serious, (Captain)?
As you may already know, I'm not exactly the most festive type... With that in mind, do you still want to play against me?
Yes, you say... Heh, ever the curious one, (Captain).
You're on. I haven't had a mission from the Society for a while. Was afraid my muscles might be atrophying.
What's that? You're gonna color my face with crayons if you win?
Hm, the stakes are on. This is a battle I cannot afford to lose.

5

The first shrine visit of the year... Heh. I know you, (Captain). I can guess what the steadfast captain of the Grandcypher wished for.
"The good health of the crew, and safe passage all the way to our destination." Well? I'm not wrong, am I?
I can't remember when I started, but I've found myself praying for the same thing.
Maybe when I realized just how many old losses I was recovering as I traveled with you.
Hah. The new year's barely started and I'm running off at the mouth already.
All I should have said was happy New Year, (Captain).

Valentine's Day Cutscenes

1

Hm? You're here to give me chocolates?
Ah, for Valentine's Day...
That's mighty kind of you to give gifts to all the crew members.
You've really gone all out for Valentine's Day, (Captain).
I've seen you running all over the airship since this morning. Take it easy and I'll be on watch for today.

2

Is that chocolate... for me?
I see...
Thank you, (Captain). I'll be sure to savor each bite.
Did you get up early to prepare for Valentine's Day?
If so, then take the day off to rest. I'll take care of your duties in your stead.
Leave it to me! You know I used to be in a crew before this one. And handling business with the Knickknack Shack is my forte.

3

Another gift for me this year? Thank you, (Captain).
Your gift brings cheer to a man who went through a tough scrape...
You might not be aware of it yourself, but beyond your strength to fight is the strength to help your crew stand tall.
I suppose that's not saying too much this time...

4

Chocolate for me this year too? Thank you, (Captain).
How fortunate I must be for this to feel so natural.
For our give-and-take relationship to continue...
And the fact that you're all still by my side.
I couldn't ask for more.
I should be grateful for what you do for me, (Captain).
I will try to be more upfront with myself, so that I can express my gratitude properly.

5

That's quite the stack of boxes you're carrying, (Captain). Can you even see where you're going?
Handing out chocolate to show the crew you appreciate them, eh? You really are a considerate captain.
What? They're all for me?
Wait... These are all different kinds of sweets. Did you make all of them?
...
You did all this because you don't know what I like?
Pff... Just when I think I have you figured out, (Captain).
Thank you. I'll savor each bite.

White Day Cutscenes

1

I'll go ahead and give this to you... since it's White Day and all. I apologize that it's not handmade...
I went into town to find something suitable to give you, (Captain), but it took a while to decide. Giving gifts is arduous...

2

(Captain), do you have a minute?
Yep. It's your White Day gift.
I tried to think of a handmade gift, the way you did, (Captain). But I'm afraid I'm no good at those kinds of things.
So instead I went and bought something that's sure to please.
The item is pretty popular, and there was quite a line. So I ended up coming back pretty late. My apologies...

3

There you are, (Captain). I want to give you this. Go on and take it.
Hm... You're staring at me pretty hard... What's wrong? I'm definitely the one who bought it...
The wrapping is so cute that you want to know which store it came from? I see... You're concerned about me and the shopping trip.
The store was just as you'd imagine. It looked like something out of a fairy tale. It was hard for me to step foot inside...
The store clerks froze when they saw me too. But the place is so popular for gifts, I didn't know where else to go.
Humph... I only did it for you, (Captain). Now go ahead and take it.

4

(Captain)... So today's White Day, huh.
I had to buy these ready-made, but I did prepare them just for you. Will you accept?
Hm? You saw me making something in the kitchen?
So you were watching... It's true, I did try my hand at this confectionary thing, but it didn't turn out too well.
Hm? You wish to taste the ones I made myself? I can't guarantee the taste though.
Well, if it'll satiate your curiosity...
I left them in my room. Come with me.

5

Here, (Captain). This is for you.
It's handmade. Last year you told me you preferred that, remember?
So I asked Vyrn and Lyria what you liked.
I think I chose the right recipe... but I can't vouch for the taste.
There's a card too. I wanted to share my opinions of all the sweets you made me last month, and say thank you.
Which did I like best? The chocolate chip cookies, I think. They struck the perfect balance of bitter and sweet.
I wanted to return your consideration in kind, but... Well, I hope you like it, at any rate.

Trick or Treat Cutscenes

1

Captain, what is the custom for Halloween?
I see many people wearing some very strange outfits... Though perhaps I'm not one to talk.

2

So you want candy, eh?
Then say it! Say the words! Trick or treat!
Just kidding. Don't be scared, (Captain).

3

What sort of tricks are our crew members up to this year, (Captain)?
Allow me to help. Only if it isn't dangerous, of course.
Now then, tell me the plan. I'll go and procure all the items we'll need.
Humph. I too have a playful side, you know. Now let's put this plan into action!

4

(Captain)? Sorry, I don't have any candy left.
Truth is I was surrounded by children in every direction out there...
Intrigued by my outfit, they came at me in droves.
They followed me everywhere I went. Every piece of candy I had in my bag was gone by the time I returned.
Although exhausting... It certainly wasn't an entirely awful time that I had.
(Captain)... You have candy for me too?
I most graciously accept...

5

Happy Halloween, (Captain). That's what I'm supposed to say today, right?
Choose: Trick or treat!
Ah... I thought it might come to this.
Here I am, clearly empty-handed. How could you pass up such a perfect opportunity?
However...
Vaseraga spins in place, cloak whipping out behind him. In his hands is a neatly-wrapped package.
I had it stowed in my cloak. A warrior should never be caught unprepared. I'm wise to the ways of the Grandcypher by now.
They're pumpkin cookies from a shop Zeta likes. Here. They're yours.

Happy Holidays Cutscenes

1

My old crew used to celebrate the holidays too.
This? It's the wine we'll be having at the holiday feast.
It's Erune-made so it's very good stuff. Will you be having any, (Captain)? Ah, you're not of age yet...

2

With all these crew members, the holiday feast feels much more lively.
At times like this, don't you sense how far we've come as a crew? I know I do.
Now let's get a seat, (Captain). You don't want to miss out on a feast as grand as this!

3

The holidays are here... It's that time of year again...
We're all exchanging gifts this year again, aren't we? I've already got my gift ready.
It's rare to see me at a holiday party, you say? I suppose I like to show my face every now and then...
For every person that finds a place in your heart, they become just one more push to give you strength to survive. That's all there is to it.

4

What's wrong, (Captain)? Not enjoying the feast?
Hm? You followed me out here?
Sorry if I made you worry. Had to clear my mind.
When I served as captain of my own crew, I loved partying with the rest of 'em.
Just as you do now, (Captain).
Recalling the good old days gets me a bit sentimental.
Perhaps I've said too much.
Hm? Where are you dragging me?
What? You want me to bust a few moves with you at the party?
I suppose I could do that.
Being an antisocial bore on this day in particular would be a waste indeed.
Let us return to the party and bust a groove or two, (Captain).

5

The town certainly is boisterous tonight. Crowds everywhere you look. Seems like a lot of preparation goes into that holiday feast.
Don't worry, though. I'll carry your bags. That's why you brought me along, right?
What? You want my help choosing decorations for the tree?
That's more a job for Zeta, don't you think? I don't know what the tree will look like with me helping.
But this is a special night... I'll be glad to accompany you if that's what you really want.
I don't have any experience with decoration, but I can probably make myself useful when it comes to negotiating prices.

Resonate, Grynoth

Preparations are underway for the operation to rescue Cassius and Isaac. For Vaseraga, Mahira and the Society scientists create a new armor installed with a mechanism to prevent Grynoth from taking control. A quick test with the new armor proves that Vaseraga can fight without going berserk, but at the cost of lower resonance with Grynoth. They conclude that further testing and data collection is necessary.

A year has passed since Isaac and Cassius left for the moon. A year of silence and macabre speculation.
But the drought of news is broken when a distress signal reaches (Captain)'s crew.
Isaac: Cassius's brain has been removed. They wanted to know how he had changed. They wanted information about the blue-haired girl.
Isaac: He was a sample; a living experiment to observe what kind of influence living in the skies has on moondwellers.
Isaac: It hurts so much. I... I can't stand it. Someone... Anyone... Save—
Everyone has gathered at the base to make rescue plans. With no time to waste, Mahira builds through night and day to complete a cosmoship.
Meanwhile, Vaseraga stands alone on the roof, gazing up at the moon in silence.
Vaseraga: ...
Vaseraga: (We're not losing you again. Just hang tight.)
Zeta: That lunk, of course he'd be here...
Slinging open the hatch to the roof, Zeta frowns as she catches sight of her friend mulling quietly by himself.
Zeta: Vaseraga, what're you moping around here for?
Vaseraga: Upcoming field trip's got me antsy.
Zeta: You, antsy? Hope you get those nerves under control when we actually get there.
Vaseraga: You've got nothing to worry about. I know full well what happens when orders are ignored.
Vaseraga: We're going to bring everyone back together. No effort will be spared.
Zeta: Ahaha, yeah? I barely recognize you, Vaseraga.
Vaseraga: Thanks to you. I can even appreciate how nice it is to have company while watching the moon.
Zeta: Whoa, there. I didn't come to join your moon-gazing session.
Vaseraga: You didn't?
Zeta: Nope! Mahira's looking for you. She said your new armor's done.
Part of any competent rescue operation includes securing the proper gear.
Using data obtained from Isaac, Mahira has been working tirelessly with Society scientists to outfit Vaseraga and company.
Vaseraga: I know they have experience with automagod parts, but still, that was faster than expected.
Zeta: They combed through that gigantic pile of data from dawn till dusk.
Zeta: Seriously... We owe them big time.
Vaseraga: The best way to pay them back is making the most of their work.
Zeta: Yeah! Well... You're not wrong about that, but...
Zeta: Is everything okay? Not like you to brood alone. More than usual at least.
Vaseraga: To be honest, I have a few concerns.
Vaseraga: Namely, whether or not Grynoth and I can reach an understanding.
Looking down at his scythe, Vaseraga gives the strangely glowing Grynoth an unsure squeeze.
Zeta: That's a pretty huge concern if you ask me...
Zeta: We've gotta make it to the moon with automagod weapons, right? Then we need mind-body resonance... Or whatever it's called.
According to Isaac's research, when contractors awaken their seal weapons and reach a certain level of neural acclimatization...
A mind-body resonance occurs, allowing the contractor to freely control an automagod with their mind.
The rescue team has decided to use the mind-body resonance to their advantage.
They plan to send automagods to the moon and rescue Cassius and Isaac from a distance, keeping (Captain) and company out of harm's way.
Zeta: I'm just as lost as you though. Not sure what it takes to resonate.
Vaseraga: Maybe we should try to emulate the bond that Beatrix and Embrasque share.
Zeta: So like... a partnership?
Vaseraga: Don't think Grynoth and I could muster that. It's just a specialized weapon. A means to an end.
Zeta: I get it. Considering it swallowed you up and made you go berserk... Yeah, would be kind of hard to call it your partner.
Vaseraga: You've got the gist of it.
Zeta: Hold on! Maybe something can be done about that.
Vaseraga: What?
Zeta: Come on, let's go see Mahira!
Zeta energetically skips away, while Vaseraga watches her with a suspicious eye. Not long after, he follows, and the two head for the base's research room.
Mahira: Hello, Vaseraga. Sorry to call on you so late into the evening.
Vaseraga: No. I should be apologizing. Sorry to make you work past sundown.
Mahira: No, no. I was more than grateful for the opportunity, especially since the results were no less than spectacular...
At Mahira's signal, a group of Society scientists emerge from the hanger with a massive suit of dark armor in tow.
Vaseraga: Well now...
Zeta: That is one cool hunk of metal! I can't wait to see what mine's like when it's done.
Mahira: Hopefully the wait won't be too much longer for you, Zeta.
Zeta: Ah, sorry, I didn't mean it that way. No need to rush.
Society Scientist: Ahem!
Mahira: Ah, if we could have your attention, everyone. Our resident expert has a few things to say. Go ahead.
Society Scientist: This armor was based on parts from an automagod. Not to mention we augmented it with a new alloy.
Society Scientist: Therefore it's as sturdy as an automagod itself! Not to mention, its light weight allows for a wide range of mobility. Truly a masterpiece, wouldn't you say?
Society Scientist: However, we haven't quite optimized its potential yet. We'll need you to try it on before anymore tweaking.
Vaseraga: Right.
Vaseraga: Hm, it's got some weight to it, but it's hardly a hindrance. What a strange sensation.
Mahira: Could you try holding Grynoth for a moment?
Vaseraga: It feels... more right in my hands than before.
Mahira: Zeta told me what she had to do to stop you when Grynoth took over your mind.
Vaseraga: ...
Mahira: She used Arvess as a means to communicate and bring you back to your senses.
Mahira: Which leads me to believe that contractors channel emotions through their seal weapons in order to resonate with them.
Mahira: Using this idea as our hypothesis, Zeta and the scientists assisted me with the engineering.
Society Scientist: Ahem!
Mahira: Ah, right. Perhaps I should let our expert discuss this part. Go ahead, the floor's yours.
Society Scientist: Through the experiment, we discovered that when contractor and seal weapon resonate, a previously unrecorded wavelength forms between them.
Society Scientist: But what is this unknown wavelength, you might wonder? Well, you see...
The scientist continues to babble about wavelengths and resonance for a short while.
Vaseraga: ...
Zeta: Heh... So, uh... In layman's terms, what now?
Mahira: We found a way to replicate the interference that occurred when you managed to snap Vaseraga from Grynoth's control.
Mahira: It is not a fully completed mechanism, but it should serve its purpose fairly well.
Vaseraga: In other words, I'll be able to wield the full extent of my might without losing control.
Mahira: Yes, theoretically. It's not finished yet, as I said.
Mahira: To help the process, I'd like to conduct a test. Could you draw upon the entirety of Grynoth's power here and now?
Vaseraga: Hmm...
Zeta: The heck? Give it a go, big guy.
Vaseraga: What if I can't control it?
Zeta: If it happens, it happens. I'll be here to stop you, remember?
Vaseraga: I suppose so. I'm counting on you then.
With Vaseraga's agreement secured, preparations are made for the test.
Vaseraga: ...
Zeta: I'm ready to go whenever you are. I've got your back.
Vaseraga: All right. Let's start.
Vaseraga: Sabet odem.
Vaseraga: Raaaaaaaggghhh!
Vaseraga unleashes Grynoth's power, causing the weapon to change form.
Grynoth flows with energy; Vaseraga's armor shines brightly.
Vaseraga: This...
Frozen in shock but in control of himself, Vaseraga takes in the transformation.
Mahira: I was worried for a moment there, but it looks like the interference mechanism worked.
Zeta: You hear that, Vaseraga? You can go as wild as you want now!
Vaseraga: Yeah... This changes everything.
Vaseraga, filled with relief, returns Grynoth to its original state.
Almeida: ...
Mahira: There you are, Almeida. I was wondering where you went.
Almeida: Eep! Ah, um, I got curious, so I...
Zeta: Almeida? What are you doing here?
Mahira: I asked for her help to make the armor.
Zeta: You did? Why didn't you say so earlier?
Almeida: Ah... Haha... I didn't want to cause a scene...
Vaseraga: You've saved my hide yet again. I owe you my thanks.
Almeida: I-it was nothing.
Zeta: Vaseraga, don't you think you owe her more than that? How about taking her out to dinner?
Almeida: Gulp! D-d-din...
Vaseraga: Not a bad idea. Once everything's settled, I'll treat everyone who helped to a nice meal.
Zeta: Excuse me? Can you not read—
Almeida: Th-that sounds great! They all did such a good job! I'll pitch in to cover the bill too!
Zeta: (Vaseraga! How dense can you get!)
Almeida: A-also... If I could ask for something else as compensation...
Almeida: Would it be okay if I took some of the leftover materials from making your armor?
Vaseraga: I don't mind, but do we actually have any?
Mahira: We do. I'm fine with Almeida choosing whatever she wants.
Almeida: Ohhh... Thank you both so much! There's something I really want to try...
While Almeida and the others chat, the Society scientist hums thoughtfully off to the side.
Society Scientist: Hmm...
Mahira: Is something wrong?
Society Scientist: The interference proved successful against Grynoth's influence.
Society Scientist: Yet... the results were far from the thresholds that we predicted.
Mahira: So we still have a ways to go.
Zeta: Uh... thresholds? What are you talking about?
Society Scientist: A good question. Thresholds, in general, refer to the sensations, reactions, stimulations—
Zeta: Wh-whoa, wait!
Zeta: Could you give the simple version... please?
Mahira: We detected lower resonance readings than we originally hypothesized.
Mahira: Of course, there were many unknown variables. We weren't sure how much to temper the resonance to meet our expected threshold.
Mahira: So we require more data, or we'll never be able to safely send automagods into the cosmos. I hope you don't mind assisting.
Vaseraga: Not at all.
Vaseraga must achieve a deeper resonance with Grynoth in the days to come.
Even with the assistance of the new armor, he ponders how to foster the bond between contractor and weapon.

Trigger for Resonance

To gather data on his new armor, Vaseraga wears it out on patrol through a nearby town, where a crew of skyfarers attack him. The new armor allows Vaseraga to stay in control while he fights, but the interference mechanism drastically lowers his resonance with Grynoth. After fending the skyfarers off, he ponders how to bolster his bond with Grynoth.

Vaseraga patrols a town near the base, both for the town's safety and to amass data from his new armor.
While out and about, he finds a depiction of himself plastered to a wall—one which he tears off in annoyance.
Vaseraga: These wanted posters are still out there?
Vaseraga: ...
Vaseraga: You realize my bounty's not up for grabs anymore, right? Or is there another reason you're stalking me?
Shady men, armed with anti-primal munitions, emerge from the shadows and encircle Vaseraga.
Skyfarer 1: Yeah, we know there's no money on your head...
Skyfarer 1: But we've got a debt to settle—one where you'll pay with your life! Or else we'll never clear our crew's name!
Skyfarer 1: It's your fault we've been branded cowards! T-today is the day you die!
The men's vengeful gazes indicate that they are in no mood to parley.
Vaseraga: No talking you out of this, huh?
Skyfarer 1: That's right! Nobody's leaving until one of us is lying cold in the dirt!
Vaseraga: And here I was thinking we could finish this without any bloodshed.
Vaseraga: (Those anti-primal rounds will shred right through me. Which would cause Grynoth to run amok...)
Vaseraga: (At which point, I'm not sure I could keep it suppressed. Tricky situation I've stepped in...)
Skyfarer 2: Say your prayers! These anti-primal bullets are gonna fill that pretty armor of yours with holes!
Screaming, the skyfarers throw themselves at Vaseraga.
Skyfarer 1: Raaahhh!
Vaseraga: ...
Skyfarer 3: Die!
Vaseraga: ...
But Vaseraga, putting his new lightweight armor to the test, nimbly dodges the skyfarers' attacks.
Vaseraga: Hm, not bad. Next...
Skyfarer 1: You're wide open! Graaahhh!
Skyfarer 1: Huh?
Vaseraga: ...
Skyfarer 3: Take this!
Skyfarer 3: Huuuh? How'd my sword break!
The armor withstands attack after attack, sustaining no damage whatsoever.
Vaseraga: (Hah. It's sturdy enough, all right. Grynoth has barely taken notice of these jokers.)
Vaseraga: Next...
Skyfarer 1: You think that's all we got? Guys, get in formation!
At their captain's command, the skyfarers cease their assault and pull back.
They pull out their guns, bright lights forming at the muzzles, and aim red lasers at Vaseraga.
Vaseraga: Better to avoid the anti-primal rounds than try my luck, I think.
Vaseraga: Sabet odem.
Vaseraga unleashes Grynoth's power and watches its shape change.
Just as before, the new armor prevents Grynoth from taking hold of his mind. Relieved, he refocuses on his opponents.
Vaseraga: Give me your best shot.
Skyfarer 1: Fire!
Skyfarer 2: Yaaaaahh!
Vaseraga: Raghhh!
Augmented by Grynoth, Vaseraga predicts the barrage's trajectory and dashes out of harm's way.
Vaseraga: Raaahhhh!
Skyfarer 3: What kind of monster are you...
Vaseraga: The one that won't reap your soul, at least. Now hold still.
Skyfarer 2: We're not done yet!
Right as Vaseraga swings his enormous scythe, a single bullet grazes past his cheek.
Vaseraga: ...
In an instant, Grynoth returns to its original appearance.
Vaseraga: (Is the interference too strong? Or is my bond with Grynoth not enough?)
Skyfarer 2: Tch!
Vaseraga: Whatever. It's nothing a few swings won't fix!
Vaseraga: Graaaaagh!
With Grynoth activated once more, Vaseraga leaps at his assailants and knocks the guns from their hands.
Skyfarer 2: D-damn it...
Vaseraga: Best give it up now. You want to restore honor to your crew's rep? Find a way that won't cost your lives.
Skyfarer 1: You...
Having witnessed the extent of Vaseraga's strength, the terrified skyfarers flee from the scene.
Vaseraga: ...
Vaseraga rubs a finger against the graze on his cheek.
Though his new armor's performance is satisfactory, the interference mechanism might be doing too good of a job.
He contemplates now how to resonate with his weapon.
Vaseraga: If it's not one problem, it's another.
Vaseraga: Mahira and the other scientists might be able to figure out something with their research... But I can't let them do all the work.
Vaseraga: I need to find a way to deepen my bond to Grynoth...
He stares at the gleaming weapon in his hands, various concerns racing through his mind.

Trigger for Resonance: Scene 2

Soon after Vaseraga defeats the skyfarers, Tsubasa, Almeida, Taiga, and Rintaro arrive on gearcycles. Having heard gunshots, the gearcyclists are awed to hear that Vaseraga took care of his enemies by himself, and express both their respect and desire to learn from his example. The three and Almeida accompany Vaseraga for the rest of his patrol.

Vaseraga has successfully beaten back a crew of cowardly skyfarers.
But he now worries over his resonance with Grynoth—a crucial component in the crew's plan to rescue Cassius and Isaac.
Vaseraga: A bond like Beatrix and Embrasque...
Vaseraga: Well, Grynoth, you willing to work with me?
Grynoth: ...
As expected, the weapon gives no response, causing Vaseraga to smile wryly.
Vaseraga: Knew it wouldn't be so easy.
Vaseraga: Now what to try instead...
He looks to the sky in contemplation, but the blast of a horn soon shatters the peace and quiet.
Tsubasa: Hey, hey, heeey!
Almeida: Tsubasa! Vaseraga's over there!
Killa Taiga: Duuude, that armor's sick!
Yung Rintaro: I don't see nobody else 'round though. Did he kill 'em all by himself?
Killa Taiga: I'd believe it. Guy's got total grim reaper vibes.
Tsubasa: Hey, numb nuggets! Shut your traps or eat my dust!
Tsubasa furiously pedals toward Vaseraga, causing the turbine reactors of his gearcycle to spit flames.
Hot on his heels are Taiga and Rintaro, pedaling as fast as their feet allow.
Vaseraga: It's those Mysteria kids causing a ruckus, huh?
Almeida's Voice: Vaseraga!
Vaseraga: Didn't expect to see her with them though...
In quiet astonishment, Vaseraga watches as Tsubasa and his friends speed over.
Vaseraga: Like bats out of hell.
Killa Taiga: Vaseragaaa! G-g-get outta the waaay!
Yung Rintaro: Whoa, whoa, whoooaaa!
Vaseraga: ...
Vaseraga: Either of you hurt?
Tsubasa, unlike his friends, manages to slow his wild gearcycle to a graceful stop.
Tsubasa: Phew...
Tsubasa: Taiga! Rintaro! You two aight?
Yung Rintaro: Yeowch... Still kickin' somehow.
Killa Taiga: Yikes, that was a close one... Nearly went for a dive to the bottom of the skies.
Almeida: Vaseraga, we heard gunfire coming from over here! Are you okay?
Vaseraga: Nothing to worry about. I already took care of it.
Tsubasa: That was a lotta gunshots...
Tsubasa: And you dealt with them all? You're a scary one, man.
Killa Taiga: How's that killer armor treatin' ya, Vaseraga?
Vaseraga: Performing as advertised. I'm pleased with it.
Killa Taiga: Woohoo! He likes it! Didja hear that, Almeida?
Almeida: Wh-why're you grinning at me like that?
Killa Taiga: No reason!
Vaseraga: First your work with Alsarav, and now this armor... I owe you more than I can properly express. Thanks.
Almeida: Ah, um... You don't have to thank me so many times, haha...
Vaseraga: I'll owe you again after we've finished gathering data. Assuming you don't mind assisting some more.
Almeida: No, not at all! You can count on me!
Glancing at Almeida's blushing cheeks, Taiga and Rintaro whisper between themselves.
Yung Rintaro: Pure as pure can be...
Killa Taiga: Right? Kinda makes me wanna puke, but it's also fun to watch.
Tsubasa: We ain't here to flap lip, men! I told y'all to focus until Mahira finished the ship! Got it?
The Two: Right on.
Tsubasa: Vaseraga, we can take over patrol duty from here. You just head back to base with Almeida and relax.
Almeida: Y-y-you don't have to give us space, you know!
Yung Rintaro: Uh... Pretty sure Tsubasa don't mean nothin' by it. He doesn't notice that kinda stuff.
Vaseraga: This is no time for rest. I have to scout the area and make sure none of my assailants are still around.
Tsubasa: Yo, mind if we tag along then?
Vaseraga: Only if you're prepared for danger. They intend to take my life.
Tsubasa: Thing is... We got a lotta respect for you.
Tsubasa: So we wanna see what you do when you're out there, all alone, laying the smack down patrol style.
Tsubasa: We'll roll with whatever happens. We cool?
Vaseraga: ...
If you sense anything off, let me know immediately.
The Three: Hell yeah!
Almeida: Hehe... I'm coming too!
The party goes forth, prepared to take on whatever challenges may come.

Trigger for Resonance: Scene 3

The group finish their patrol and stop for a rest. Vaseraga notices Tsubasa's tender treatment of his gearcycle, to which Tsubasa responds that his ride is his partner—one that he trusts in. Seeing their bond, Vaseraga realizes, more than ever before, that Grynoth is only a weapon to him, but he resolves to find a way to understand and work with it.

Vaseraga: That should do for today. Ready to head back to base?
Tsubasa: Hehe, you kidding? Once I get amped, I stay amped, baby!
Killa Taiga: Gaha! For real? Then why are your legs all twitchy, bro?
Tsubasa: Shaddup.
Tsubasa: You saw how much turf we tore up today...
After patrolling the base's surroundings, the group is taking a much deserved rest.
Vaseraga watches with interest as Tsubasa takes the moment to lovingly pat his gearcycle.
Vaseraga: Almost looks like a father taking care of his own child...
Almeida: Hm... Is that so strange?
Vaseraga: From him? Yeah. Especially with his tough guy act.
Tsubasa: Huh! Take a big fat look in the mirror, Vaseraga! You're hella scary compared to me!
Vaseraga: Heh... You got a point there.
Almeida: Now wait a minute! I'll have you know that despite the way he looks, Vaseraga's a kind and gentle man!
Yung Rintaro: Whoa, whoa! "Despite the way he looks"? Almeida, you dissin' on Vaseraga there?
Almeida: Excuse me! I would never!
Killa Taiga: Hehe, you're kinda cute when you get embarrassed!
Almeida: Wipe that smirk off your face this instant!
Tsubasa: You're not wrong that this gal's near and dear to me. But she's my partner, not my kid.
Tsubasa: How she's doin' is always at the top of my priority list.
Vaseraga: Partners...
Tsubasa: You got Grynoth, right? Guess you know what I'm talkin' about.
Vaseraga: Not really. We've been together a long time, but I still don't know how to discern its condition.
Tsubasa: Ah... I know what that's like. This gal always gets outta whack and goes off on her own.
Tsubasa: I've oiled parts, changed the gears, adjusted the wheels, even messed with the reactor... Nothing. Usually just wait a day, and suddenly everything's back to normal.
Vaseraga: And that's how your gearcycle ended up looking the way it does now.
Tsubasa: Man... Be easier to get a new gearcycle, right? But you can't just abandon a pal once you're paired up. Gotta keep believin' and trust in each other.
Vaseraga: Trust...
Vaseraga: Is that why you're all comfortable pushing your broncos to ludicrous speeds?
Tsubasa: Ah... Haha, actually, our rides aren't usually this wild.
Tsubasa: We got some special maintenance done today.
Tsubasa: Once we took 'em for a test spin, we realized the turbine reactors were spitting out crazy flames—enough to really juice it.
Tsubasa: But these goons couldn't handle it and wiped out. Like lame-ohs.
Killa Taiga: Shut it.
Yung Rintaro: Ah! Tsubasa, we forgot to say thanks for the parts!
Tsubasa: Holy crap, my men, you're right. I forgot the most important thing...
Tsubasa: Vaseraga!
The Three: Thanks a bunch!
The three students line up in front of Vaseraga and bow in unison.
Vaseraga: For what?
Almeida: Oh... The leftovers I asked for were used as materials for their gearcycles.
Vaseraga: I see.
Almeida: Ohhh... Thank you both so much! There's something I really want to try...
Almeida: I wanted to test the durability and heat-resistance of the materials, so I could improve your armor better.
Vaseraga: Impressive work for such a short period of time.
Tsubasa: Yeah, man, we were seriously outta our element with the new parts.
Tsubasa: Almeida definitely saved the day with her big brain and super skills.
Almeida: Now we know more ways to use automagod components.
Almeida: Tsubasa and his friends also had their own ideas of how to help.
Tsubasa: Not sure if any of those ideas are gonna work out, but... least we can do is try.
Vaseraga: I see. So both my armor and your gearcycles are out for test drives.
Tsubasa: Think I've finally got a handle on the gal though, after all the purring and hot flames.
Vaseraga: You weren't exaggerating when you called your gearcycle a partner.
Yung Rintaro: Nah, man! If anything, he undersold his babe hard! She's practically his girlfriend!
Killa Taiga: Yeah, that's what it comes down to! Love! Right, Almeida?
Almeida: D-don't talk to me about romance!
Killa Taiga: Ain't you the one who said a craftsperson puts their all into what they love? Touched my heart, man!
Vaseraga: Almeida's spirit makes her a worthy master of her trade.
Vaseraga: I would know—this armor is comprised from the results of her passion.
Almeida: Ah, well, ahaha...
Seeing Almeida flush bright red, Taiga and Rintaro elbow each other with knowing grins.
Vaseraga: Love...
Killa Taiga: Say what! Have you fallen for someone?
Vaseraga: No. Just contemplating the complexities of the concept.
He gazes at the scythe in his hands, then heaves a sigh.
Almeida: You have to deepen your bond with Grynoth, don't you? Are you sure that's safe?
Tsubasa: They're partners, yeah? So long as they believe in each other...
Turning abruptly away from the others, Vaseraga glares up at the moon.
Vaseraga: No, Grynoth is a weapon. I've never thought of it as a partner even once.
Vaseraga: If anything, it's a menace that threatens to swallow me whole.
Vaseraga: When I lose control, I'm keenly aware of my own weaknesses... The only emotion I feel toward it is hatred.
Almeida: Vaseraga...
Vaseraga takes a deep breath, mind made up.
Vaseraga: But everything will be all right. I don't have to shoulder my burdens alone anymore.
Vaseraga: I have my Society comrades... and you all.
Vaseraga: Our conversations today taught me a key lesson.
Almeida: What is it?
Vaseraga: I need to change my approach if I'm going to resonate well with Grynoth.
Vaseraga: Love is out of the question... But maybe understanding isn't.
Gazing at his weapon once more, Vaseraga gives a grim smile.
Grynoth lies still in his grasp, quietly reflecting moonlight from its blade.
