But I did so anyway for her coming-of-age rite. Was hoping to pick up something nice for her to celebrate. The ritual happens once a year and must be undergone by all children who've come of age. But this time the elder's son, who was still too young, also partook in the ceremony the same year as my sister... And we know how that turned out. Despite being raised in a family of herbalists, my sister was skilled in martial arts. Yet I was the one who came out of it alive. There's no telling when you'll see your last sunset, or when your meeting with someone will be the last you ever see of them. Treasure this miracle of a day, (Captain), where you are surrounded by so many good friends. Although it also means you have that much more to lose, I assure you it is better than living life alone.
2	✔	What are you doing here? Mugen told me today was your birthday, but I'm sure you know better than to expect me to celebrate. If you have time to visit me, you should go see Seox instead. Or perhaps the twins. I'm sure Mugen would be delighted to hear from you, for instance. I know you're not a bad person. Though I hate to admit it, I can tell that much from the way you treat those around you. So you should spend your time with the people who care about you. If you keep putting it off, you'll just end up kicking yourself in the end. Be careful not to live a life bound by regrets.
3	✔	Come to think of it, Mugen and Wamdus both came to me separately asking about herbal tea. So they wanted to serve it to you on your birthday... Everything makes sense now. Well, maybe not everything... I assume they must have been thrilled that you were happy. But to think you drank so much that it made you sick... Unbelievable... Choose: My stomach won't stop gurgling... I guess it's partially my fault for not realizing what was going on and suggesting that they serve one pot of tea together. Anyway, Mugen and Wamdus would be crushed if they knew about this. I'd rather not have that. Not to mention, the people who prepared your dinner, cake, and whatnot would feel let down too. I guess that leaves me with no choice. I'll give you some medicine that will assist with fluid excretion. If you take it and avoid eating and drinking for a while, you should be able to manage. Good grief. It's hard to tell whether this is all because you're a good person at heart or just greedy. Either way, don't forget to assess your limits, whatever they're in relation too. Otherwise, you'll end up causing no end of heartache to those around you.

1	✔	Why come see someone like me who's all doom and gloom on this special day? Mugen's past New Year's resolutions? Hm, I never asked. He wants to be a better singer, huh... Explains why he tries forcing me to listen to his lullabies. Never pegged him for the type to get back at me because I spent so much time sleeping. As someone who used to pester me for lullabies but now shares that with others, he's found his way of paying it forward. Here's hoping his next resolution is to want to live on, regardless of whatever happens to me. Mugen's a fast learner. It shouldn't take long for him to catch up with everything he's missed out on in terms of civilization. There's no need for him to keep following my lead. He deserves to live his own life.
2	✔	Why are you here? The year has only just begun, and you're already bored? If you've come in search of a sick man to kill time with, I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint. I already have plans. There's some medicine I'd like to finish mixing. I don't want anything impeding my work. Choose: What medicine? Antipyretics, anti-inflammatories... I need to stock up on general remedies that will have some effect on the common cold. Colds tend to circulate during chilly periods with low humidity. Children are especially vulnerable, since they lack strength. You don't want to prolong the suffering of the children of Stardust Town, do you? If I've made myself clear, then take your leave at once... or at least sit there quietly.
3	✔	While Wamdus and Mugen are fetching drinks during a break in their card game, (Captain) asks the others a question. Choose: Are you guys... holding back? Did you just now realize? The townspeople and I are playing "properly," I guess you could say. I'm an ex-mafia member as you know, and the people of Stardust Town have seen their own fair share of hard times. There's no need for us to teach Mugen and Wamdus our no-holds-barred style. Choose: I kind of want to try it... Oho? Is that so? What do you say, boys? Actually, I don't even have to ask. I see the fire burning in your eyes already. All right then. Let's try playing a game for real until those two get back. But don't come crying to me if you end up regretting it. So since we're doing this for real... what's everyone betting?

1	✔	Valentine's chocolate for me? No thanks. Save it for yourself. I appreciate the gesture, but my taste buds are as good as dead. Best not to waste good food on me. Good food should be savored—something I'm wholly incapable of. I think of all the people who'd appreciate the taste of your chocolate so much more. They're the ones that are truly deserving of your gift—not me. Huh? Never mind the taste, and just think of the nutritional value? Heh, now that's some tenacity. I'm starting to see why Seox opened up to you. Fine then. I suppose they'd make for fine rations anyhow.
2	✔	... (Captain) visits Nehan's room to find him staring silently at an assortment of packages piled on the table before him. Choose: Something the matter? You're here too? A number of Stardust Town children came to my room this morning. I assumed they were ill, but they told me that wasn't the case and left these packages. Just look what it turned into. Apparently there are sweets inside. I told the children to eat them instead, but not a single one took any home... As Nehan frowns, (Captain) steps forward and places another gift on top of the pile. ...! Even you? What exactly do you expect someone without a sense of taste to do with this?
3	✔	Don't run in the hallway! You'll fall and hurt yourselves again! Nehan's voice echoes after the children as they dash out of the infirmary. Good grief. At least they're healthy, I guess... Hm? Oh, it's you. Choose: Happy Valentine's Day! You too? The children of Stardust Town have been dropping off sweets left and right since this morning... Met with an expectant silence, Nehan sighs deeply and turns to (Captain) wearing a sour expression. ... Happy Valentine's Day. There, are you happy? What? You want me to eat the sweets you brought? Every year it's the same thing... I realize I'm not exactly in the prime of health, but why are you and the children so focused on getting me to eat? I could use some more meat on my bones? If I get any heavier, that will just be more weight I have to put on my cane. Though I have a feeling that opening my big mouth like this is only going to have the opposite effect. I just can't win...

Back when he lived by himself, honey was one of the few pleasures he had in life. It's still one of his favorite treats to this day, and I was telling him it's a waste to give me the honey when I can't even taste it. But he can be pretty stubborn, you know... Choose: Fingers crossed that you taste again. Thanks... Hopefully before this honey goes bad. (Then again, the sugar content of honey ensures that it lasts longer than any one person's lifetime.) Which reminds me, the children of Stardust Town have a White Day gift for you. Never mind me, and go pay them a visit.
2	✔	... Seeing (Captain)'s arms overflowing with sweets, Nehan furrows his brow. Don't you have a bag or box on hand? If you carry them like that, you might drop them. ... Fine. Come to my room, and I'll lend you an extra crate. Mugen and the children of Stardust Town seemed to be looking forward to giving you sweets. If you ended up dropping them before you could even try a bite, I'm sure they'd be disappointed. Perhaps I'll prescribe you some stomach medicine while I'm at it. Eating that much could very well give you a stomachache. But that in itself would also upset Mugen and the others. Choose: Why would I eat that much at once! You can't be too careful.

That's all well and good, but what's the point in stuffing your stomach well beyond its limits? Are you some toddler who doesn't know how to exercise restraint? 1	✔	You're that crew captain... Seox's friend... My mask? It's part of my Halloween getup. Mugen insisted that I dress up to go trick-or-treating. Choose: You look a lot like Seox. You must be wondering why my mask is so similar to his... My owners in the Magasin family saw great financial opportunity in my association with the Karm Clan. So much so that they had this mask specifically tailored for me. What a joke, eh? But enough talk. I've kept Mugen waiting long enough.
2	✔	Treats... In other words, something sweet... If I roast nuts and cover them with a sugary glaze, will that suffice, I wonder? Nehan's train of thought is interrupted by the entrance of (Captain), whom he gives a reproving look. I'm busy. If you're not injured or ill, I suggest you go elsewhere. Choose: Are you making treats? What? How did you... Actually, I imagine Mugen told you. ... You seem to be expecting something, but I won't be making anything special. In fact, I can't. If it's treats you want, I'm sure you'd be happier receiving them from your fellow crew members. My words aren't getting through, are they? It's clear you must have forced your way into Seox's heart rather than him opening it of his own accord. I still need to make the sweets, so that leaves you with less time to get some elsewhere. In the end, it seems your greed was your downfall.

Are you telling me Mugen made this too? You and Wamdus helped? And the children of Stardust Town decorated it... No, it's very well-made. So much so that I was surprised. I see... So Mugen did this with the other children... I have no doubt that he'll be able to do anything he puts his mind to. He's always had it in him, after all. I was just explaining to Mugen that Santa has nothing to give to adults. And of course, the same goes for naughty children. Meaning even if I were a kid, Santa wouldn't bother with me. Make sense, Mugen? That's why you're better off using that stocking for yourself. I've no doubt the jolly old man will have something for you. Got it? Good. Huh? You suggest we share the same bed tonight, so that your pillow will be my pillow? What are you talking about, Mugen? (Captain). Would you stop laughing and tell Mugen what this holy night's all about? Because I've long since forgotten.
2	✔	(Captain) has stopped by Stardust Town to pay a visit to Nehan at his office. Nehan's Voice: Who is it? Choose: I'm coming in! Nehan: I don't recall asking you to come in... Well, it's you after all. I suppose there's nothing to hide. Nehan opens the lid of a box at his feet, wraps its contents in paper, and then places them in another box nearby. Choose: What's that? These are holiday sweets the twins wanted to place near the pillows of the other children as gifts. They said it'd be a pain to wrap them, so I'm doing it in their stead. This makes for decent rehabilitation exercise. My wrapping skills aren't the greatest, but what's inside matters most anyways. Look expectantly at me all you like, but I don't have anything for you. If you want some sweets, you should ask someone close to you. I'm sure the twins or Seox would be happy to give you some.
3	✔	Urgh... Choose: Are you okay? Never mind me. I just overate at the holiday feast. Or rather... I was overfed. I had a feeling it would come to this. But Mugen, Wamdus, and the children all wanted to stuff my face for some reason... And you're partially to blame for laughing instead of stopping them. Well, no matter. I'm sure it will clear up with some stomach medicine. I'd hate to see all those elaborate dishes go to waste... If anything urgent comes up this evening, I'll be in the infirmary. You're free to unwind with the children or return to the ship—whatever you want. ... Listen, I don't need you to come with me. I'm not sick, so stop looking at me like that.

Edge of the Dream

Nehan, plagued by the guilt of creating harmful drugs, has a recurring nightmare. He is finally able to awaken thanks to the sweet-dream talisman that Mugen places by his pillow.

Stardust Town is a safe haven for orphans who have nowhere else to go.

In one of the houses, a large figure watches over a man in a deep slumber.

Nehan: ...

Mugen: Nehan...

Mugen sags his shoulders, saddened by the lack of a response.

Feower: Here you are. It's almost dinner time, Mugen.

Mugen: Mm! Okay.

Feower: Are your manners degrading? Try "yes" next time.

Mugen: Mm? Mugen copy Tien.

Feower: Ah... She's an exception.

Mugen: For instance... Why?

Feower: Er, you see... Tien's the oldest of all the Stardust children, so she's like an elder to us.

Mugen: Elder? Like elderberry?

Feower: Ugh, there's no end to this...

Tien: Mm? You two are still here? It's fine to chat, but everyone's waiting in the dining hall.

Feower: Yep, we were on our way, Sis. Just got caught up explaining your verbal tic.

I let slip the secrets of my clan that I'd kept hidden even as people blamed us for being assassins.

Secrets that I should've kept to myself until they could be used to save the skies. I'd given up the pride of my clan.

In order to survive, I ended up using my knowledge to create the dangerous drug known as Serenity Heaven. Ah, the irony of it all...

Nehan: Perhaps the true assassin was me all along.

Nehan: Murdering the very essence of Karm so that I could live on...

Nehan: I consciously betrayed the clan's trust in me, unlike him, who had no choice in the matter...

Though Nehan remains unconscious, Mugen makes a habit of visiting him daily.

Mugen: ...

Mugen: Yes! Come in.

Tien: We're back, Mugen.

Mugen: Tien! Eternals finish work?

Tien: Mm, Feower and I came back first. Seox was there too, but he has another assignment on a distant island with (Captain)'s crew.

Tien: It'll be a while before he comes to Stardust Town again, so he wanted me to give this to you.

Tien hands Mugen a talisman that's the size of her palm.

Mugen: Um... A letter? No...

Tien: We call this a talisman. Every talisman is imbued with a different magical effect.

Tien: Seox picked up this one from a fortune-telling friend of his. It grants the user sweet dreams.

Mugen: Sweet dreams... for Nehan!

Tien: Mm. He said to give it to you, knowing you'd use it for Nehan.

Mugen: Seox, Tien, thank you!

Mugen: Everyone so kind. Mugen happy. Mugen promise to return favor!

Tien: No worries. All I did was bring it to you.

Mugen: Tien so nice... Mugen very, very happy. Mugen return kindness someday!

Tien: Mm... You're such a sweet child, Mugen.

Tien: Oh, I almost forgot. Seox mentioned that the talisman goes into effect if you place it under a pillow.

Mugen: Okay! Mugen do it now!

Mugen gently raises Nehan's head and pillow before placing the talisman underneath.

Mugen: Nehan... Please see nice dream.

Mugen: Sweet dream is best.

Nehan: Where am I...

Mugen: Nehan sleepy?

Nehan: Ah, no, I was just thinking...

Mugen: Thinking? For instance?

Nehan: I was thinking about the past. About something that can no longer be helped.

Mugen: No help?

Nehan: What's done is done.

Nehan: It's just like, for instance, how there's no way to bring back your family.

Nehan awakens to find the left side of his body in especially poor condition. With the help of Mugen and Mia, a local girl, he takes a walk around town and realizes there are still children suffering from the effects of Serenity Heaven, a drug he created.

After a long battle with a gunshot wound and a bitter pessimism for life, Nehan is finally awake again.

Tien asked Fif to check up on him, revealing that his injuries are still eating away at Nehan.

Tien: Mm. There you go. It's not too tight, is it?

Nehan: No, it's fine. Turns out it's actually easier to see with only my right eye.

Mugen: Nehan left eye no see?

Nehan: It's not that my left eye can't see, but the color and shape of everything gets terribly distorted.

Nehan: For instance, I'd easily get you and the shelf mixed up.

Mugen: Same as no see...

Nehan: I'd say there's a pretty big distinction between reduced vision and blindness.

Feower: If only that were the end of your problems... Looks like other parts of your body are affected as well.

Nehan: Moving my left arm and leg feels like a chore... But at least my joints aren't completely useless.

Tien: So you should be okay if you just take it easy, huh... Does it hurt though?

Nehan: No.

Tien: Mm... That's fortunate. Right, Mugen?

Mugen: Yes... Move lots and get better. Fif said so.

Feower: Your body's just weak from all that sleep. Time to make up for it by getting back in shape.
