The party found themselves in the Wayward Forest in search of a piece of the Sky Map. There they met Walder, a youth who wanted to make sure his friend's slumber remained undisturbed. Though the world was huge and full of wonders, the forest had been all Walder had ever known. (Captain) and company decided to take him with them on their journey.
Seeking pieces of the Sky Map, (Captain) and company were visiting the Wayward Forest and had stopped at a small shrine.
Inside the shrine slept a primal beast that had reverted into its crystal form.
Lyria: This forest smells really peaceful and gentle. It’s the same smell that the sleeping primal beast has!
Vyrn: Its power stays in the forest even as a crystal!
Lyria: Hey, (Captain). This one doesn’t have a piece of the Sky Map. Why don’t we go ahead and let her sleep?
Vyrn: I think I know what she’s getting at. I bet she’s right in the middle of a nice dream.
Vyrn: ...! Look out! Get down!
Walder: Damn hunters! Destroy the forest, will you?! Now, step away from the shrine and nobody gets hurt!
Vyrn: Are you nuts?! What are you attacking us for?! Who the hell are you, anyway?!
Walder: I am the valiant woodland warrior -- Walder the Forest Ranger! Obviously...
Vyrn: Aw, man! He's got the pose down and everything!
Walder: Finally! Someone who understands! You, my friend, are no normal creature!
Vyrn: I think you and me are gonna get along just?wait a minute! Listen up. We're not trying to ruin the forest or whatever...
Walder: As if I’d believe anything you damn Hunters try to tell me! Now, take your punishment!!!
Lyria: We can’t fight here! There's a primal beast sleeping here and you wanna just wake it up?!
Walder: Ugh...! Nnnrgh...
Walder: You’re right. I don’t want to cause any harm to Jade.
Vyrn: Seems like you got a real thing for this primal beast, Bandana Man. What’s up with that?
Walder: Hmph... fine. I'll spin you a tale! A tale of the passionate friendship of Jade and Walder!
Vyrn: Uh... No, not really...
Walder had been waiting for his chance. He launched into his story with barely a pause for breath.
He'd met Jade as a youngster, and his tales of their heroic deeds stretched beyond count. He droned on and on, to the point that people were falling asleep...
Walder: I thought I was a goner for sure, you know? And then...
Vyrn: Whoa, whoa, whoa! Stop! Just stop! How long are you gonna talk?! I mean, damn!
Vyrn: So you got caught by some hunters and Jade saved you... Is that about right?
Walder: Exactly... But Jade changed into primal form and fell into a deep sleep, as if to shut out the world.
Walder: ... this might not have happened if I could have talked to Jade like the herbalist can.
Walder: But our bond was the real deal. I refuse to think otherwise.
Lyria: Jade hasn't closed herself off in the least! This forest... it's gentle. It's so gentle. Can't you feel it?
Walder: And how the hell d'you know that?!
Walder: A talking lizard and a mysterious girl... I don’t understand any of this! Who the hell are you guys, exactly?
Vyrn: I am NOT a lizard! You're looking at the best dude in (Captain)’s Order!
Vyrn: And y'know... there's stuff out there that's a lot more interesting than us!
Lyria: Bandana Man... are you just going to wait here until Jade wakes up?
Walder: I’d like to have a close bond with Jade someday... I’d like us to really understand each other... Like how you guys do...
Walder: I wonder if the outside world has the technology to help me talk to Jade...
Vyrn: What's that, (Captain)? What? There's a great big world out there waiting for Bandana Man over here?
Vyrn: Haha! I knew you’d say that! You heard (Captain)! You're on the team!
Walder: Searching for the Sky Map, eh? Doesn't sound too shabby!
Walder: Once Jade wakes up, I’ll come back and tell her all about my adventures in the outside world... I think she’d like that.
Lyria: You just have to make sure you come back with lots of stories to tell!
Vyrn: There you go! And it's about time we got ready to head out!
Just how many tales could Jade expect to hear once she awakened...
And so, the woodland animals bid the Forest Ranger farewell as he stepped foot into a whole new world.
The Worried Wood Warrior
The party has headed to a large port town, but Walder volunteers to keep watch at the ship since he doesn’t like the big towns. The bandit that appeared there stole Walder and his best friend’s memory. To take back the treasure, Walder and the others head out to seek the bandits.
Lyria: Incredible! What a big port town! You can find anything you want here! Katalina!
Katalina: Yeah! I can’t wait! I think I’ll be able to find a wonderful sword. Lyria, tell me if you need anything.
Rackam: Come on, Katalina! We came all the way out here to shop and you’re just looking through weapon shops?! *Sigh*
Vyrn: Aren’t you going shopping, too, Walder? It’s a big town, so you might find a good souvenir for your buddy waiting in the forest.
Walder: I-I’m fine...
Rackam: What do you mean, you’re fine? Look at what a huge town we’re in. You don’t know anything but that forest...
Walder: I said I’m fine! Oh yes! I’ll keep watch at the ship! Just go on ahead without me.
Rackam: Hm. Fine. I don’t need to get anything, I’m just going to take it easy in the airship.
Vyrn: (Captain) wanted to do maintenance on the ship, I think! I’ll stick behind, too!
Walder: In that case, go and check out the stern. See you later, guys! Let’s meet again!
Vyrn: That Walder... He still can’t deal with big towns?
Vyrn: We finally got out of the forest and he can’t even head to town? What a waste.
Walder: Stop it right there!
Bandit: Tch! I didn’t think there'd be anyone here keeping watch. No need to stick around! Run for it!
Walder: Oh, no you don’t! I, Walder, the brash and daring ranger of this forest, shall punish you!
Rackam: What’s going on?! Whoa... There’s thieves coming in. They've got some nerve picking a fight with us.
Bandit: Hehehe... We’ll be taking anything worth anything! Go ahead and take it back if you can. This guy'll fight you!
Vyrn: It’s those guys! He sicced a monster on me and ran!
Walder: Damn it! They took the treasure chest filled with my memories with Jade!
Vyrn: Jade is your best friend! We can’t let them get away! Move it! (Captain)!
The Worried Wood Warrior: Scene 2
Walder enters the town in search of the bandit that sicced the monster on him. He and (Captain) jumped into the ruins filled with monsters where the bandit made his escape.
Vyrn: That monster isn’t enough to even stop us! Right, (Captain)?
Walder: But of course! You bandits... I’ll show you what happens if you make the great Walder mad!
Rackam: I uh... I didn't want to bring this up... but they ran into the middle of town. Aren’t you afraid of big towns?
Walder: How did you know that...?
Walder: Don’t insult me! The great Walder fears nothing!
Rackam: Don’t force yourself, man!
Walder: I-I’m not forcing anything! Just keep moving! Just go!
Vyrn: (Captain)! Considering how Walder's behaving, we need to nab these guys sharpish!
Rackam: There they are! It’s the guys around the corner! We came pretty deep into the city... are you okay, Walder?
Walder: I-I’m fine! I’ll overcome this trial so I can take back my memories with Jade!
Bandit: H-How did you get here?! You defeated that monster? Who are you people?!
Walder: I am the daring warrior of the woods! The Forest Ranger Wal...
Vyrn: Hey! They ran again!
Rackam: Hey, those guys ran into the ruins... It’s a den of monsters in there!
Bandit: Ahhhhhhhh! M-Monster! Somebody help! Please help me!
Rackam: Tsk... They’re such a handful... Though they’re bandits, we can’t just leave them to die if they’re being attacked by monsters.
Walder: But of course! Besides, I can’t let them damage the memories they stole!
Vyrn: Walder... You're like a totally different guy from earlier!
Vyrn: As expected from the daring warrior of the woods! We better keep up! Right, (Captain)?
The Worried Wood Warrior: Scene 3
(Captain) and the party managed to take back the treasure from the bandit. Elated by his brave actions, Walder forgets that he is in the middle of a big town, and speaks enthusiastically about his past heroic deeds.
Rackam: Walder, you did well. Right, (Captain)?
Walder: Pffft, of course! The forest ranger will never submit to evil!
Walder: Thugs who trample upon precious memories! This... is justice! Repent for your ugly sins!
Walder: Oooh...! Didn’t I just say something totally awesome right now?!
Rackam: Uh, they’re knocked out, so they didn’t hear a word you said.
Walder: Heh heh heh... I’ll show you how precious what you stole was!
Rackam: Uh, didn’t you hear me? They’re knocked out cold...
Vyrn: There goes Walder again with his stories, (Captain)!
Rackam: Making a grandiose speech in the middle of the city. Looks like you got over your fear!
Walder: In the middle... of the city? ...!
Rackam: Ah... He was so focused on talking about his stories that he just didn’t realize where he was. Hey, he froze up.
Vyrn: Geez. What will you do without us? Hey! You okay, Walder?
Walder: I-I... The c-city...
Rackam: Yeah, he’s done. Oh, well! Let’s take him back to the ship!
Born and raised in the forest, Walder must overcome his fear of the big city and the people who live there...
No one knew then, but in due time, his name would be known throughout the world...
Vyrn: What the... hey! You can't just add a narration that makes you seem big and famous!
Vyrn: ...tsk. We’re going to explore the forest next. We’ll need your help!
Walder: Heh... If it’s about the forest, you can count on me!
Walder: Because it is I, Walder, the brash and daring ranger of this forest!
The Wood Warrior's Wise Words
Rosamia had brought (Captain) and company back to her home, hoping she could find out where her family had gone. But her family was gone, as was her childhood home. Rosamia was despondent, and Walder’s homegrown philosophy of life was just what the doctor ordered.
The day found Rosamia lost in a reverie that her mask did little to hide.
Walder happened to pass by just as our heroes were sharing their concern for Rosamia.
Walder: Huh? What's with you guys? Sneak, sneak, sneaking around... what's the deal?
Lyria: It's just... something's been going on with Rosamia lately. It's like she's worried sick.
Walder: What's this... Rosamia's in poor spirits?! I had no idea... perhaps I'm not the member of this company I thought I was!
Vyrn: Hey, now... no need for all that... (Gah... we never should have let Walder in on this... )
Walder: Ah... how to solve this dilemma. I've had years to cultivate my woodsman's philosophy. Perhaps it's time to put it to good use...
Vyrn: W-wait up! Where the hell do you think you're going?! Walder!
Walder: I'm the man for the job! Walder the Forest Ranger cannot even SPELL the word "impossible!"
Walder: Ah! Rosamia! Mind a bit of company?
Rosamia: Huh? You need something?
Walder: Ah, not quite... it's just, it's hard to find a spot of the airship with a view so lovely as this.
Rosamia: What? What in the... here? It's an airship, for goodness sake. The view's good anywhere.
Rosamia: (What a weirdo... why does he need to sit by me?)
Rosamia: Weird. This is definitely weird... eerie, even...
Walder: (Ugh... there I go spouting off again. )
Walder: I mean, uh... look at that great, big sky. What's a little worry compared to that?
Rosamia: What? Whatever you say, but if you don't need anything I'm gonna get going.
Rosamia: (I wish it was as simple as all that. Still, I guess I shouldn't just leave... )
Rosamia: I just don't wanna cause anyone any trouble... this is something I need to handle myself. I need to leave the Order...
Walder: (What in the hell... just LISTEN to how you sound, Rosamia... )
Walder: (Grr... time for some tough love!)
Walder: Pump the brakes, Rosamia! What d'you mean "handle yourself?!"
Rosamia: HAH! H-how in the world?! What are you, psychic?!
Walder: That's right! Don't keep it all bottled up. Tell ol' Walder what's on your mind.
Rosamia: Grr... Walder... What manner of trickery...
Walder: Dahahaha! The Great Walder is a master of the fantastic!
Rosamia: Gah... I suppose I can't hold it in any longer. I... I'll tell them.
Vyrn: Looks like it worked, whatever it was.
Lyria: Okay! Let's go see her!
Rosamia's face set into a grim expression as she spilled out her troubles to the party.
Rosamia had lost track of her family during her time as a test subject of the Empire. She'd missed them ever since.
But her concern over the safety of her loved ones meant that Rosamia was ever hesitant to use the sword she'd turned against the Empire.
Rosamia: Sigh... and that's what I need to handle. Now that I can control the mask, I can leave the Order and head home.
Walder: Please, Rosamia. Why on earth would you need to leave? Eh, (Captain)?
Choose: We can team up!
- We can team up!
- Power in numbers and all, right?
Rosamia: Thank you. (Captain)...
Rosamia: Seems like I'm racking up quite the debt with you...Choose: Power in numbers and all, right?
Rosamia: You're such a softie, (Captain).
Rosamia: Hehe! But I guess that's kind of what I like about you...Continue 1
Rosamia: Sorry for making you worry. All of you. I was at a real loss, to tell you the truth...
Rosamia: So please... I want you guys to come with me.
Lyria: Hehe!Of course we will! You know how important to are to us, Rosamia.
Vyrn: Alright! Sounds like we got ourselves a new course!
And so the Grandcypher changed course, heading for the town that Rosamia called home.
Looking clearly anxious, Rosamia guides the party through town.
Walder: Don’t worry. I'm sure your family's snug as a bug in a rug.
Rosamia: Thanks, Walder. We're almost there...
But the home where Rosamia and her family had spent their lives was gone.
In its place was a scorched ruin. Rosamia fell to hear knees. She said not a word as the tears coursed down her face.
Rosamia: This can't be... they... my family... but why...
Walder: The curse! Who could be so callous...?
Just then a man approached, his heart in his throat at the sight of Rosamia.
???: ... Gasp! The mask... you... are you Rosamia?
Rosamia: Who... who are you? Don't tell me you're from the Empire...
Town Sentry: Nothing of the sort... I am but a sentry. I'd joined the guard not long after you left...
Town Sentry: I... I can only assume you're here to see your family. But I'm afraid they're no longer here...
Quietly, the man begins to speak of the tragedy that befell Rosamia's loved ones.
According to the man, some months after Rosamia had been summoned by the Empire, an incident occurred.
In fear that their latest technology had been leaked, the imperial army was sent to attack Rosamia's home.
Town Sentry: I wish we had done more... the guard was in no state to oppose the Empire. All we could do was allow your family to escape...
Rosamia: I see... so they got away safely. Thank you.
Walder: Bunch of low-down, dirty sons of dogs! Damn that Empire...
Vyrn: H-hey! You okay?! Rosamia?
Rosamia: I'll be fine... I need to turn around and face what's in front of me, no matter how bad it is.
Rosamia: They'll pay. The Empire came for my family. We'll burn them out root, branch, and leaf.
Walder: All right! That's what I like to hear, Rosamia! Those imperial dogs are gonna wish they never head of us!
Rosamia: Hehe. Thanks for everything, Walder! And the rest of you, too!
Lyria: Leave it to us! It'll be a cinch with all of us working together!
Walder's pushiness got results. Rosamia was finally able to confront her problem after running away for so long.
She was filled with fresh hope. Perhaps the day would come when she would meet her destiny and finally be reunited with her family.
