Happy Birthday Cutscenes
# Link Text
1

Are you still awake, Singularity? I heard this was a special day to celebrate your birth.
As your existence is a great boon to me, Singularity, I'd like to offer you my blessings as well.
Give me your forehead, Singularity.
Though you have more fire in you than a newborn babe, your flame only gives way to faint winds.
Keep that flaming burning bright enough to one day reach the heavens, so that you may safely reach Estalucia. May my blessing be a boon to you.
I wish to see more of the world and the dyads that reside in it. To that end, the success of your journey is paramount to me.
So I ask that you never stop pressing onward no matter what may happen, Singularity.
But for now, let us focus on living through the next cycle of seasons!

2

What? Is it time to celebrate your birthday? Have the seasons already spun a full cycle?
Time seems to flow for but a second when looking back on a babe's transformation. Even so, many experiences were had during that fleeting moment.
Despite the hardships that come with being the singularity, you didn't allow yourself to be overwhelmed by those ordeals.
When you think about it, you've done well to survive another cycle, Singularity!
I, the great Fediel, shall lavish you in praises. Come here! That's a good captain!
Hmm? What's the matter, Singularity? Before you were flailing wildly, but now you've gone limp...
Choose: I can't... breathe...
How is that possible from a simple warm embrace and ruffling of hair? I didn't think mortals were this fragile... No, it shouldn't be an issue at all!
No matter how much I learn from my interactions with mortals, there seems to be a deep reservoir of untapped knowledge still to plumb.

3

You've done well to survive another year! Yes, yes—good captain!
I've been observing you closely over these many months. You certainly faced no shortage of hardships!
Your finesse in navigating such turbulent waters was nothing short of magnificent. I commend you!
To think that such fragile creatures can utilize their wisdom and skill to live so masterfully.
Your endeavors were truly fascinating to behold. I was deeply impressed.
I look forward to watching your next year as well.
Of course, I don't intend to merely look on. I wish you good fortune in the year ahead!
As the overseer of darkness and tranquility, I pray that there will be times of peace on your ever-tumultuous journey, Singularity.

Happy New Year Cutscenes

1

I'd thought night was a time of slumber for mortals, but oddly enough so many are already awake before the sun is up.
Here you are up on the deck too, Singularity. Is there going to be some kind of festivity?
You're going to watch the sunrise together? What for?
Morning follows night. It is a simple law of nature that should be obvious to all.
Today's special because it's New Year's? The beginning of a new cycle of seasons?
I don't know why it must be on this particular winter day, but celebrating your survival of the previous cycle...
And making a resolution to see you through the next cycle...
Seems silly, given what a short amount of time it is. No, I forget that mortals perceive time differently than I do. Hm, a lovely tradition it must be for torchbearers.

2

Ah, Singularity. Are you taking in the first sunrise this year as well?
If the first sunrise represents the birth of a new year, wouldn't you say the final sunset represent its death?
In that case, the rituals of cleaning and preparing at the year's end are no different than making preparations for a funeral.
Death is mourned so that life may be celebrated. Both work in tandem, essential to keeping order in the Sky Realm.
So I ask you, Singularity—did you prepare for the end of the year with all of your heart?
Or was the end of the year simply forgotten as you made preparations for the birth of the new year?
There's no way I'll stand idly and let Lu Woh hog the spotlight all to himself. Absolutely not!
I serve the Sky Realm just as he does, and won't be pushed aside!
Death must be revered as it is feared! Do you understand, Singularity?

3

What might that be, Singularity? A fortune? To reveal your fate for the coming year?
Hmm, might I take a look? I see... You mortals rely on this type of divination in your daily lives, yes?
Fate is a fickle thing. Truly, as far as passing the torch is concerned, the future is full of uncertainty.
Thus, it is only natural that mortals would find solace in such vague words of prophecy.
Nevertheless, it is invariably the will of the individual that determines their life's course.
If you decide your path by entrusting your will to these words, you may end up passing on a sense of regret to the world.
It may be best to consider that fortune as merely a form of consolation in the case of a blunder.

Singularity! Come and accept my charity! A gift known as chocolate!
Do not hesitate. For I, too, wish to see you make it to Estalucia one day.
This rich and mellow victual is said to be a fantastic source of nourishment. May it serve you well.
When I went to town with the Erune and dragonewt lasses to acquire the gift, we spotted quite the crowd.
For what reason would mortals gather on this day? Some sort of event or festival perhaps?
What? An occasion to gift chocolates so as to form dyads? Why did you not tell me sooner!
What a tender secret you've been hiding from me! I must see the glorious pairing of dyads with my own two eyes!
Feast on your chocolate, Singularity! And do not obstruct my path to the glorious view that awaits!

2

Happy Valentine's Day, Singularity! Would you like to have some chocolate?
Excellent! Don't be shy now. I've brought plenty of lonely chocolate that wasn't able to find a home.
The mortal told me that they were on "clearance". Unable to find a home, they ended up being sold for cheap.
I still don't understand why they were on "clearance". After all, nothing about their form or flavor seems to have changed at all!
Be that as it may, look at how much I was able to purchase with the amount of coin the Erune lass gave me!
This should be enough to last for days, so go ahead and eat to your heart's content!
You'll need plenty of nourishment if you plan on reaching the ends of the skies, right?
And of course, if you can form a dyad on the way, that's even better, Singularity!

3

Urgh, to think it still isn't our turn. I greatly underestimated the number of mortals here...
Although it's the same amount of time, the anticipation somehow makes it feel longer. How mysterious...
Fediel and (Captain) stand in line at the special Valentine's Day stall of a famous confectioner.
That being said, if so many mortals have lined up with such high expectations, we're sure to come away with some delicious sweets.
I'm starting to feel rather nervous. I've learned that items of such exceptional quality and flavor fetch a high price.
I wonder if the coin I have on hand will be enough to purchase portions for the both of us and the Erune lass?
Choose: Don't feel pressured.
No, I must follow through! I'm the one who invited you to accompany me, after all.
I also wish to express my gratitude for all that you do. It would be unreasonable for me not to present a gift to you!
So you need only wait and look forward to the delectable sweets that you will soon be enjoying! Understood, Singularity?

1

Yes, Singularity? Hm? You have something for me? I'm not sure what the occasion is, but I'll take it.
Ooh, cookies! How thoughtful of an offering! Huh? It's a thank-you gift?
White Day? An occasion to show gratitude for chocolates received on Valentine's? I see...
A dyad becomes official depending on the answer given on White Day? Why must the process be so labyrinthian!
Surely things would move along faster if an answer is given on the spot. People need time to consider such proposals? Hm...
Well, if you want the optimal choice for your dyad, I guess that does make sense...
Though that does not change the complexity of the matter...

2

Hmm? Ah, that's right! A White Day present in exchange for Valentine's Day!
Allow me to thank you, Singularity. I look forward to tasting another delicious gift this year.
When compared to the eons of existence since the birth of the Sky Realm, my time since taking this form has been but a blink of an eye.
Never did I dream that I'd be able to take such joy in indulging in such simple yet delicious pleasures.
As I now live among the mortals, it only seems right that I return the favor, right?
But this was already given to me in return for something else... In other words, I'd be giving something in return for something that was given to me in return for something else...
Nrgh...
Could this be an endless cycle? When does it end?
Wait... Of course! This is yet another ritual among dyads—a way to form everlasting bonds with one another.
Does this mean... that you intend to form a dyad with me?

3

Singularity!
Fediel hands over her White Day present and embraces (Captain) tightly, sending the captain's eyes rolling skyward.
You have bestowed upon me a Valentine's Day gift and accepted my White Day gift in return, thus completing the ritual of exchange.
In other words... you and I are now a dyad!
That being the case, it's only logical that we should lessen the distance between us, yes? Such is the reasoning behind my actions.
Yes, your face is turning red in response just like those of the dyads I have often observed.
What? Your face is red because you can't breathe?
Oh my... It's not because we are a dyad? That was quite a misstep on my part. I shall release you now, so breathe!
So... how was it? Did being embraced by me make it feel as though we were a dyad?
You were too focused on getting air? Hmm, proper dyad interaction is a truly complex matter...
Singularity, this is a serious issue. Teach me to behave as part of a dyad. There's no time to waste!

Trick or Treat Cutscenes

1

Gah! Why! Why is everyone twisting their faces today!
Singularity, I see you've also covered your body in a giant decoration. Will you be saying those magic words too?
"Trick or treat," I believe! All the young torchbearers make an exaggerated pose and contort their faces as they say it!
A choice between prank or candy? A night for the living to frolic with the dead? Hal-lo-ween...
Hm, the boundary between life and death must be very loose without Kamuzumi to handle things...
In any case, I couldn't be happier to learn that today is a free-for-all for pranks and candy raids!
I'll have to try this "trick or treat" on the Erune lass later. But first...
Trick or treat, Singularity! Hand me your candy before I trick you! Quickly now!

2

Oh, Singularity! Happy Halloween! I was going to say trick or treat, but...
I was going to say trick or treat, but I was prevented from doing so by that Lu Woh fellow... What a...
I had planned to give him the night that never dawns and let him enjoy Halloween for as long as life in the sky...
But it seems that Lu Woh doesn't know how to have fun!
Whether the wedge between life and death has been pulled out or the foundation of the world has been destroyed, the empty world is still here and now.
There is simply no reason to not enjoy oneself! Don't you agree, Singularity?
We might as well enjoy the tricks and treats that the winds will play on us to the fullest!
Come now, Singularity! Tell them to go trick or treating! Tell them, I say!

Happy Holidays Cutscenes
# Link Text
1

Singularity! The holidays are upon us! Surely you plan on spending the night with your better half.
The perfect opportunity for me to observe dyad activity...
Huh? You plan to be in merriment with the entire crew tonight?
...
So I see it is every single member of the crew that completes your dyad! Most impressive, Singularity! You exceed my wildest expectations!
Huh? I'm mistaken? Hm, you mortals are so difficult to understand...
I give up! I'll just have to see for myself what it means to be in merriment with your crew! Show me, Singularity!

2

I caaaught youuuuu...
Singularity... I thought you and the girl and blue were a dyad, but you've let many others on the crew do the "ahh" thing with you!
I've learned that this is not only a means of feeding between parent and child, but a dyad activity to show affection!
Surely you don't mean to claim the rest of the crew for yourself!
Sigh... But it is understandable. Mortals tend to be secretive when it comes to who they form dyads with, after all.
Embarrassment, perhaps? I've observed the behavior of mortals enough to understand this much!
But you have no reason to be embarrassed now that it is no longer secret!
Dyad or not, you and the others can show me the ways of copulation! Come along now—don't be shy!

Fifty Shades of Curiosity

Fediel is discovered naked one morning on Miach's bed. Throughout the day, Miach, Ferdia, and Chulainn discuss with her the importance of sleeping with nightclothes on, table manners, and so much more. Fediel learns much about mortal culture.

Having fought off the true dragons Medb and Ailill, Alster Island is on the road to recovery.
Though the scars of war are still present, some semblance of peace is beginning to take root again on the island.
Miach's Voice: Eeep!
Ferdia: That voice...
Chulainn: It's Lady Miach!
Miach is a boy asked to live as a girl due to the political circumstances of his birth. As his shriek echoes across Alster's Great Court, his attendants Ferdia and Chulainn rush to his room.
Ferdia: Lady Miach! Is everything okay?
Miach: F-Ferdia! Don't come in! Um...
Fediel: Yawn... Must you be so loud in the morning?
Chulainn: Ah! Fediel, what are you doing in Lady Miach's room unannounced again!
Ferdia: Gosh no... Please don't tell me! Did you actually sleep on her bed unclothed?
Fediel: The sensation of an Erune lass in my arms was rather comfortable.
Chulainn: Gah, how many times do I have to tell you to stop using people as a hug pillow! They can't sleep well like that!
Fediel: The dragonewt's not too bad either, but I prefer a body that's a little more sizable to keep warm—
Ferdia: Gaaaah!
Ferdia: Chulainn! I hate to ask you this, but can you put some clothes on Fediel?
Chulainn: Okay! I'm coming in, Lady Miach!
Miach: Please do...
Chulainn's Voice: This must be the top... Can you go, "Hurray"?
Fediel's Voice: Her-ray?
Chulainn: Oh, it just means raising both arms. Like this.
Fediel: I see. Hurray.
Ferdia: Sigh... I know you're technically Lady Scathacha's guest as someone who helped save the island, but... You really are a dragon, right? Not just some weirdo?
Fediel: What a ruckus so early in the day.
Ferdia: Whose fault do you think that is!
Fediel: Being unbound by cloth is so liberating... Why do mortals care so much about being properly dressed?
Fediel: Especially in the bedchamber, which—based on the way you're admonishing me—seems to be a place of privacy.
Ferdia: Well...
Miach: Having no nightclothes on makes it easier to stain the linen sheets, which is not ideal.
Fediel: Hm?
Miach: Because we perspire even while asleep. Sleeping naked makes it easier for our sweat to seep into the bed, which would be unsanitary.
Chulainn: Also, if anyone comes knocking in the middle of the night because of some emergency, it would be quite the surprise for them if you're not clothed!
Fediel: How cumbersome...
Ferdia: Those who don't have a habit of comporting themselves decently are bound to have some sort of embarrassing incident down the line.
Ferdia: If something like putting on nightclothes before sleeping is already second nature, there's less to worry about in the long run.
Fediel: A habit, huh... So this is part of mortal culture as well...
Fediel: Understood. I'll try to make it a habit as a well during my stay on the island—starting from tonight.
Fediel is still pouting despite giving an understanding nod. The others breathe a sigh of relief.
Miach: With that settled, shall we go for breakfast?
Chulainn: Everything's ready in the dining hall!
Ferdia: Your seat, Lady Miach.
Miach: Thank you, Ferdia.
Following Ferdia's example, Chulainn pulls a chair for Fediel.
Chulainn: Here's your seat, Fediel!
Fediel: Mm, a delightful aroma. I'm no Wilnas, but the mortal diet does interest me.
Upon taking her seat, Fediel takes a good look at her steaming-hot bowl of soup before placing both hands on it.
Ferdia: Goodness! Don't touch the bowl with your mouth! That's what the spoon is for.
Fediel: Spoon? Ah, a utensil, I see.
Ferdia: Among the utensils lined up next to the bowl, the soup spoon is the one furthest to the right.
Ferdia: Starting with the outermost utensil and proceeding with the next one in line for each dish is basic table manners.
Fediel: Graah!
Fediel: You mortals and your pointless rules! It's all the same when the food goes into your body!
Fediel: From the spoon to this three-pronged stick, why do you need so many tools simply to transport the food to your mouth!
Chulainn: Now that you mention it... Why do we need so many utensils?
Chulainn: We never had this many back at Grandpa's place. Doesn't it just mean more work when washing the dishes?
Miach: For one thing, using the appropriate utensil for each dish makes the meal more enjoyable.
Miach: They affect how much food is in one bite for example, which influences the texture and thus the perceived taste. See how this one is deeper than this one?
Picking up separate spoons with each hand, Miach demonstrates his point to Chulainn and Fediel.
Miach: The ideal utensil can also change depending on the food's temperature.
Chulainn: Oh really?
Fediel: Sigh... That's nearing the level of hypersensitivity...
Miach: Also... There's the danger of getting burned if you drink hot soup directly.
Ferdia: In addition to that, some of the soup might leak from the sides of your mouth.
Ferdia: It'd be a waste of good soup. And if it gets on your clothing or handkerchief, not only is it unsightly, but you'd have to spend time cleaning it up.
Chulainn: Huh... So there's a reason for everything.
Fediel: I suppose the miniature shape of mortal jaws allows you to experience such minute differences in taste.
Fediel: Yet I still find the number of utensils to be absurd.
Fediel: Does it not become burden having to remember all these rules?
Miach: Breakfast is meant to be casual, so it's okay to let loose a bit.
Miach: But there are times when negotiation happens at the dinner table.
Chulainn: You mean like when parliament members invite people from elsewhere for a meal?
Miach: Yes. Many such dinners are for more than just entertaining the guests. The number of utensils serves as a subtle display of our wealth.
Miach: The idea is to have them think, "Wow, look at all this fancy plateware..."
Miach: "They must have lots of money to be able spend on this, and to hire people to keep it all spic and span..."
Miach: Having so many utensils may seem pointless at a glance, but they all aid in playing the social roles we find ourselves in.
Chulainn: Wow! I guess people in high positions really have a lot to think about when it comes to food!
Ferdia: The silver ones tend to rust easily, so keeping them in good condition takes work.
Fediel: Hm... After hearing all that, I do see your point... But yet...
Fediel: Why are such cumbersome practices passed on as tradition from one generation to the next instead of being forgotten?
Miach: Well, what carries on as part of a culture isn't always what makes the most sense.
Ferdia: It's often said that habits die hard.
Miach: Though on the other hand, there are certain traditions from the time of Astral rule that have stayed with us because of their convenience.
Miach: The use of common currency is a good example of that.
Ferdia: If each island used different currencies, trading or even shopping would be rather difficult.
Chulainn: Oh, I never thought of that! So it was the Astrals who unified currency in the Sky Realm...
Miach: Haha, I can't even begin to imagine a life without currency.
Miach: For the sake of such convenience, however, many old traditions eventually die out.
Miach: Particularly in the past few decades, advances in airship construction have led to far greater communication between islands.
Fediel: The new replacing the old is no surprise. For destruction is a tenet of the sky god.
Ferdia: We might have more airships nowadays, but the situation differs greatly by island.
Ferdia: Alster Island is fortunate in that it's a stop for many commercial airships.
Chulainn: Yeah, back on the island with Grandpa, we hardly ever saw any airships!
Ferdia: We're fortunate we can buy things we used to consider a luxury or things we never even knew existed so cheaply in Alster. It's all thanks to good commerce.
Ferdia: Being able to buy chocolate here at such a low price was the biggest surprise for me.
Fediel: Cho-co-lit? Is this another mortal tradition?
Chulainn: Um, it's brown, sweet, and makes you feel all happy inside when you eat it!
Fediel: Ooh! That sounds a lot like the cookies I had before!
Chulainn: Haha... Would you believe there are even chocolate chip cookies?
Fediel: You must tell me, Erune lass! Where can I find this so-called "chocolate"?
Fediel learns forward, eyes sparkling. Miach watches her with a wry smile.
Miach: Ferdia. Can you check to see if we have any chocolate in the storehouse?
Ferdia: Certainly. Chulainn, attend to them until I return.
Chulainn: Sure! We'll be right here!
Fediel: Hahaha, I cannot wait to gaze upon this thing you call chocolate!
Miach and Chulainn are delighted to see Fediel so excited.
Minutes later...
Chulainn: You're back, Ferd! Was there any chocolate?
Ferdia: Not that I could see. Lady Miach, it appears we're currently short on luxury items.
Miach: I see... Any chocolate we do have would probably be part of emergency rations.
Ferdia: Yes, and it's best we don't dip into that...
Fediel: Hm? So the gist is there's no chocolate?
Miach: Unfortunately, no...
Fediel: I see... We'll just have to move on then.
Miach: It may take a while, but I'll be sure to give you some chocolate when we next acquire some.
Fediel: Ah! Truly?
Chulainn: I wanted Lady Scathacha to have chocolate too, so I'll be on the lookout for some next time I go to town!
Fediel: In that case, I'll be waiting with baited breath. A chance for me to practice patience.
Fediel: Do be sure to show me the chocolate once you have it! It's a promise!
Miach: Yes, of course.
Chulainn: You'll love it for sure, Fediel!
Fediel: Haha. As much as mankind's ungainly tendencies make me wince, they are equally amusing.
Fediel: Erune lass. Tell me more about yourself!
Miach: I'd be glad to. Well then...
Miach kindly answers every one of Fediel's questions as they continue eating breakfast.
But because Fediel's curiosity knows no bounds, is it dusk by the time Miach finishes his explanation of everything.

Darkness Sees Light

Upon learning that the end goal of (Captain)'s journey is to have a family reunion, the curious Fediel asks Ferdia and Chulainn if they'd like to see their parents too. Just then, news arrives of a pregnant woman about to give birth—a sight that Fediel would very much like to see.

The crew continues on its journey to the ends of the skies.
One idle day, they relish in teatime aboard the Grandcypher.
Vyrn: Mm! I can't get enough of these cookies!
Lyria: Yesterday's client gave them to us! They're supposed to be from a famous bakery on that island!
Vyrn: Oh yeah? With cookies this good, it's no surprise they're famous.
Fediel: That sounds like a taste worth knowing. Hand me a cookie!
Fediel: Nom... As delectable as the cookies on Alster were, I must say these are... Munch...
Vyrn: Whoa! You're hoggin' all the cookies! Save some for the rest of us!
Vyrn: W-wait a sec!
Vyrn: What are you even doing here!
Fediel: Chomp... Gulp. Girl in Blue, where can I find the tea!
Lyria: Oh right! We need to bring out the cups.
Vyrn: Sheesh... What are ya here for this time?
Fediel: The Erune lass is too preoccupied with other matters to regale me with her stories. I thought I'd kill some time here.
Vyrn: You came all the way from Alster Island just for that? I dunno if I should be impressed, or if I should be face-palmin'...
Lyria: Ahaha, Fediel could probably teleport to Estalucia right this instant if she wanted to...
Fediel: Ah yes, I'm reminded that Estalucia is your destination, Singularity.
Fediel: But why seek it out to begin with? I suppose it is a curious place, for one thing.
Vyrn: We're gonna reunite with (Captain)'s dad there!
Fediel: Your dad... One half of the dyad that passed on the torch to you. Is there any reason you must see him?
(Captain) is puzzled at Fediel's confusion.
Vyrn: We haven't seen the guy for ages! Of course we wanna see him!
Vyrn: Besides, the old man wrote in a letter that he's waitin' for us in Estalucia!
Fediel: Hm?
Hoping to relieve some of her confusion, (Captain) offers another reason.
Fediel: You want to take care of any business that might get in the way of you living out your days with the girl in blue and the red dragon?
Fediel: Ah yes! That makes perfect sense! You're doubly blessed when it comes to dyads!
Vyrn: I've said it before, but you've got the wrong idea about—
Fediel: There's no need to be bashful! You've satisfied both my palate and my curiosity today.
Fediel: I woud imagine the Erune lass has a bit of free time now. Time to head back.
Lyria: Ah! There she goes.
Vyrn: I don't think she got my last point. And I still dunno what she came for...
Fediel had come and gone like a storm, leaving the crew in a bit of a daze.
Fediel: The Erune lass has yet to return, I see.
Seeing that Miach's room is unoccupied, Fediel lets out a disappointed sigh.
Chulainn: Ah, Fediel! You weren't here earlier. Did you go for a walk?
Fediel: Yes, I paid a quick visit to the singularity's crew. They mentioned some curious things.
Ferdia: What's a singularity?
Fediel: Dragonewt lass. Do you wish to see your father?
Chulainn: Huh? My father?
Chulainn: Um... Not really, I guess?
Fediel: As I thought. Once the torch has been passed down, the two generations are separate.
Fediel: Yet the singularity's tone suggested otherwise...
Ferdia: I mean, if you get along with your parents, wanting to see them sounds like a pretty normal thing to me...
Fediel: Hm, I'll have to ask the Erune lass as well. I never tire of her explanations!
Ferdia: Wait up, Fediel!
Ferdia: (That's not the kind of question you ask of someone who just lost their dad... Then again...)
Ferdia: (Fediel wouldn't understand if I mentioned it outright. How do I put this...)
Fediel: If you have something to say, then say it.
Ferdia: Um...
Miach: Ferdia! Are you in here?
Ferdia: Lady Miach! What's wrong?
Miach: A woman taking refuge at the Great Court is about to give birth!
Miach: The attendants there could use another pair of hands. Could you please go help them? They're in the west wing!
Ferdia: Okay, I'll be right there!
Fediel: What was that about?
Miach: Ah... A child's about to be born.
Fediel: A mortal baby, you say! The offspring of a dyad!
Fediel: Where in the west wing is this happening? I must witness the moment of its birth with my own eyes!
Chulainn: Fediel, wait! People aren't supposed to just barge into the maternity room!

Darkness Sees Light: Scene 2

While waiting outside the maternity room, Fediel learns from Miach what a laborious process childbirth can be. She gets a chance to hold the baby later that night and is shocked by how frail it is.

Ferdia: The boiled water's ready! I'll leave the pot here!
Attendant's Voice: Thank you! Do you think you can bring us some extra bedsheets and towels?
Ferdia: Of course—I'll be right back! Chulainn, can you help?
Chulainn: Coming! Fediel, make sure you wait outside with Lady Miach!
Fediel: Fine, fine.
Attendant: Okay now. Hrgh...
Fediel: How inconsiderate. He should have just brought the pot inside.
Miach: Actually, that was Ferdia's way of being considerate. Only a select few are allowed inside the room.
Miach: Sanitation is part of it, but the main reason is so that the expectant mother doesn't have to worry about prying eyes.
Fediel: Hm... Come to think of it, even beasts in the wild do not gather around to witness a childbirth.
Fediel: This seems to be taking an extraordinary amount of time and effort, however. Has a problem arisen?
Miach: This is quite normal actually. Simply preparing for childbirth can take up to half a day.
Fediel: Half a day?
Fediel: That's an absurd amount of time just to pop out a tiny mortal!
Miach: It depends on the person. Though not many are able to get through the process so quickly.
Miach: There are even some who might feel the baby coming but aren't able to push it out until days later.
Fediel: Meaning you'd have to watch the mother during that entire time?
Fediel: To be on high alert, ready to act at a moment's notice—for days on end?
Miach: Yes. Childbirth is a tremendous burden on the mother.
Miach: Any complications not immediately addressed during that critical period could jeopardize the lives of both mother and child.
Miach: What's more is that unlike with the typical injury or sickness, we cannot rely too much on medicine or magic.
Miach: To ensure that both lives are saved, we need the cooperation of a lot of people.
Fediel: Hm... So that's how it works, huh...
Fediel: Not being able to rely on medicine or magic couldn't be more inconvenient.
Miach: It is only after overcoming all those hardships that new lives are born into this world.
Miach: It just goes to show what a blessing it is for everyone when a new baby is born.
Fediel: It's lot more interesting when you put it that way.
Fediel: The wait to witness the moment of the torch changing hands grows painful!
Miach: As I said earlier, there's no telling when exactly the baby will come out...
Fediel: Yes, I understand that! I suppose it's only a fleeting moment for me compared to how the wait must feel for mortals.
Fediel: I welcome this chance to exercise my patience.
Miach: Even a moment's delay can present a grave risk.
Miach: Please do no more than watch today, Fediel. That's all I ask.
Fediel: Hrm... I'll keep it in mind.
Attendant: Lady Miach! Can I ask you for a pain relief spell?
Miach: I'll be right there!
Fediel: Mortals, being as frail as they are, must also care for their own flame when passing the torch.
Fediel: It's truly a miracle that the Sky Realm has survived for as long as it has...
Even by nightfall, the child is yet to be delivered. Chulainn and Ferdia are napping outside the room in case anything should happen.
Chulainn: Zzz...
Ferdia: ...
Fediel: No movement since the Erune lass entered the room...
Fediel: Is a child really due to be born soon?
Fediel: Yawn...
The terrific yawn that escapes the bored Fediel's lips is immediately accompanied by another sound.
Chulainn: Huh? Someone's... crying?
Ferdia: ...!
That must be the baby!
Fediel: Is that truly the wailing of a child?
Fediel: I must witness this passing of the torch for myself!
Miach: Ferdia! Chulainn!
Ferdia: Lady Miach! How are the mother and child?
Miach: The child is perfectly healthy, as you can see.
Miach's expression remains stern despite the newborn baby in his arms.
Chulainn: And the mother?
Miach: Not well. But with the baby delivered, healing magic should have a greater effect now. I'll be helping with that as well.
Miach: Can you please hold the baby and keep it warm until the next attendant comes?
Ferdia: Yes! Of course.
Chulainn: Lady Miach, the mother's waiting!
Miach: Right!
Fediel: What a busy night. The torch has been passed, but the commotion persists.
Fediel: Anyhow, it's time I got a chance to touch the child!
Chulainn: Shh! Keep it down a bit, Fediel!
Fediel: Did I cause the baby to cry?
Ferdia: It must've been surprised to suddenly hear such a loud voice. There, there...
Fediel: The tiny mortal exhibits a great range of motion, still one moment and wailing the next.
The baby, resting in Ferdia's arms, has its cheek poked by Fediel.
Chulainn: You have to be more gentle with it!
Fediel: Hrm...
Ferdia: There's no way I'm handing you the baby like this. You want to fully support its head and hold its back like this. And most importantly, be gentle.
Fediel: Gah, so much to keep track of... Very well.
Fediel: I will not stop the wind from blowing today—a pointless endeavor. If what you say is mortal tradition, then I shall follow it.
After diligently listening to Ferdia's detailed explanation in its entirety, Fediel extends both hands to the baby.
Chulainn: Gently now! Gently!
Fediel: Yes, of course... Gently...
Fediel: ...!
Fediel: My goodness... I never imagined mortal children to be so soft and brittle!
Fediel: It feels as if the baby could scatter into the wind like silk floss...
Chulainn: It's crying again!
Fediel: Take it! Take the baby from me!
Ferdia: Did you not want to hold it a bit more?
Fediel: It's fine! Quick!
Ferdia: Okay then.
There, there. Your mom's doing her best, so just hang in there, okay?
Fediel: Phew...
Ferdia: Are you okay?
Fediel: Y-yeah...
Fediel gazes downward, the sensation of the baby still lingering in her arms.
Fediel: So that's... how...
Chulainn: Lady Miach!
Miach: No more worries. The mother's blood flow is back to normal. Everything's okay now.
Chulainn: Hooray! It's a beautiful start for this new family!
Chulainn grins from ear to ear at the baby in Ferdia's arms.
Attendant: Ferdia, Chulainn, thank you for your help.
Attendant: The midwife will be watching over the mother, so I'll bring the baby to them. Thanks again!
Ferdia: Great work on your part too! I'm glad we could help!
Ferdia: Well, I guess that matter's taken care of.
Chulainn: Phew... I'm relieved but also feeling extra sleepy now.
Miach: Haha, rest up, everyone. You deserve it.
Ferdia: Thank you. That goes for you too, Lady Miach.
Ferdia: Come, Chulainn. I'll piggyback you if you're that tired.
Chulainn: Yawn... Good night, Lady Miach.
Miach: Mm, good night.
Miach: Whew...
Fediel: ...
Miach: Fediel.
Fediel: Oh! Yes?
Miach: You could probably use some rest yourself. Why don't we continue our discussions tomorrow?
Fediel: Yes... Let's do that.
Miach: Back to the room then.
Fediel: Mm...
Fediel: (Mortals come into the world so thin, light, and feeble.)
Fediel: (As if they'd disappear with a puff of wind. To be willing to put your own life in danger so that you may give birth to something so frail...)
Fediel: I may never understand...

Darkness Sees Light: Scene 3

A conversation with the mother of the newborn baby offers Fediel new understanding of why mortals risk so much to bring new life into the world.

Attendant: Patty-pat. Let's go say hello to your mother.
The following morning, the rested mother finally gets to see her child.
Mother: Thank goodness... My baby's okay...
Attendant: Mm-hm, a very healthy baby at that. There's nothing to worry about anymore.
Attendant: Rest easy with your child. I'll be back later to make sure everything's okay.
Mother: Thank you so much for all your help.
Attendant: We help each other when we're in need—that's what the community's for! Feel free to call for me if anything comes up.
Mother: Okay...
Mother: What a cute child... Haha, you have his eyes...
Fediel: Lass.
Mother: Aiiee!
Mother: You surprised me... How long have you been there?
Fediel: I have something to ask you.
Mother: ...
The mother clutches her child close in a protective gesture, but it lets out a joyous yelp.
Fediel: Good day, child! Maybe you remember me from earlier! Have you had any milk yet?
Mother: ...
Mother: (I didn't know what to expect, but she doesn't seem like a bad person after all...)
Fediel: Hm, you seem livelier now than when I held you. A good sign.
Mother: Um... What did you want to ask me?
Fediel: Knowing the risks involved in childbirth, why did you decide to go through with it anyway?
Mother: Huh?
Fediel: Is it not dangerous for the mother to have a child? I'd heard you nearly died.
Fediel: You were willing to breathe new life into the world in exchange for your own. Where does that strength of will come from?
Mother: ...
Mother: Interesting... question...
Fediel: ...
Mother: The child's father, my husband, died in the recent war.
Fediel: Oh?
Mother: I told myself that no matter what, I wanted my baby to see the future of the island that he gave his life protecting.
Fediel: Hm...
Fediel: Do mortals not raise their children as mother and father?
Fediel: If one half of the dyad has perished, is it not safer to find someone else to complete your dyad and have a child with?
Mother: Being blessed with a baby in the womb is not a simple matter, even though losing one is...
Mother: No, let me rephrase that... All lives are precious, yet they are so easily lost.
Mother: Like my husband's...
Trying to hold in the tears that well up, she gently rocks the baby as she continues.
Mother: There is risk not only in pregnancy and childbirth, but in every facet of our lives. From accidents to sickness... Even I could suddenly pass away without warning.
Mother: Once you look past that though, there's so much joy and beauty to be found in the world. And I want my child to see that.
Mother: Nothing would make me happier than to have my child experience everything the world has to offer. I'm sure my husband would say the same if he were here.
Fediel: You say that knowing how frail the baby is, and that it's missing one parent?
Fediel: What of the chances that the baby passes before it can grow to experience all the joy and beauty that you speak of?
Mother: While it's true that a baby may breathe its last at the slightest mishap...
Mother: The same goes for me, the baby's mother—albeit to a lesser extent.
Fediel: Exactly. Then why—
Mother: However... Even if I were to perish, I have no doubt that the people of Alster Island would work together to raise the child in my stead.
Mother: Lost, weak, young children with no one to turn to... Surely there's a place for them too in Alster. Or at least there will be.
Mother: I trust in the people of my homeland, of my child's homeland.
Fediel: ...
Miach: Finding a mate and producing offspring with them is a respectable endeavor, but that's just one way to live a life.
Miach: Watching over all the children in the land, regardless of blood relations, is another.
Miach: It'd certainly be an effective method of passing on the culture of those who came before us.
Fediel: I'm reminded of the Erune lass's words that day...
Fediel: So this is what it means to pass down one's culture...
Mother: I hope that answers your question.
Fediel: Yes. You've given me a new perspective on things!
Fediel: Now I understand why Deirdre's always fought so hard to protect this island...
Mother: We are greatly indebted to Deirdre. She's done so much for us.
Mother: And... that goes for you too.
Mother: In a way, every single one of us serves as a link in a chain, working together to build a brighter future for tomorrow's children.
Fediel: Hm?
Mother: We all have so much to gain from everyone we cross paths with and get to know in our lives.
Mother: Just as I'm sure the child's meeting with you today will forever be a blessing.
Fediel: ...
Fediel: In that case, I will be praying that a favorable wind blows in the baby's direction.
Fediel: Blessings upon you and your child.
Fediel plants a kiss on the foreheads of both mother and child.
Fediel: Just like Galleon...
Fediel: I appreciate the discussion. Rest well so that you may tend to your child.
Mother: Thank you, miss. Blessings upon you as well.
Fediel: ...

Darkness Sees Light: Scene 4

By having a chat with Chulainn about the meaning of family, Fediel comes to understand why (Captain) yearns for a family reunion. She then pledges her support for the captain's journey.

Fediel: ...
Mother: And... that goes for you too.
Mother: In a way, every single one of us serves as a link in a chain, working together to build a brighter future for tomorrow's children.
Fediel: The winds of change never stop blowing...
Fediel:
Chulainn: What's wrong, Fediel? Are you not well?
Fediel: Ah! Dragonewt lass. My mind was occupied with the thought of family.
Chulainn: Family?
Chulainn: That reminds me: you asked me before if I wanted to see my dad.
Fediel: Yes, do you have a different answer now?
Chulainn: Well, I've been thinking about it, and...
Chulainn: It's okay if I don't get to see my parents, but I wish I could see Grandpa again.
Fediel: Oh?
Chulainn: I mean, I don't even know who my parents are. So I've never thought about them...
Chulainn: But I think about Grandpa all the time. I really miss him.
Chulainn: He and Ferd raised me and taught me so much. We were a happy family...
Fediel: I see...
Fediel: There's so much more to family than just blood relations—there's everything passed down from parent to child and all the memories of good times spent together.
Fediel: I'm starting to understand why the singularity wishes for a family reunion.
Fediel: Yes, it's all coming together now!
Chulainn: Did I help?
Fediel: You certainly did! My curiosity is sated!
Chulainn: I'm not sure I understand, but I'm glad I could help!
Ferdia: Fediel! Oh, you're here too, Chulainn?
Fediel: Hm? You were looking for me?
Miach: I wanted to invite you to tea. We've acquired something really nice.
Fediel: Something really nice?
Chulainn: Ooh! What could that be, Lady Miach!
Ferdia: Tada!
Chulainn: Wait, isn't that...
Miach: Chocolate! The candy store in town is open for business again.
Miach: As a gesture of goodwill, the owner gave us a small sample of his goods at the Great Court.
Fediel: Chocolate, you say? Show me the contents of that box at once!
Ferdia: I'll set the table. You and Chulainn go wash your hands first!
Chulainn: I can have some too? Hooray!
Miach: Haha, I'm glad to see you so pleased. I'll pour the tea.
Miach: The tea's ready. Enjoy.
Fediel: At last! I've waited too long for this!
Ferdia: Fediel. Chocolate's still in short supply around here, so you'll want to savor every bite.
Ferdia: I suggest not chomping it all down in an instant like you did with the cookies and scones—
Fediel: Yes, yes! Enough about me already!
Miach: Haha. Let's do away with formalities and just enjoy ourselves for today.
Fediel: You see? Even the Erune lass does not mind. Out with the chocolate already!
Ferdia: Sigh... Here it is.
Ferdia places a box in the center of the table and opens it up, the sweet scent of its contents ticking everyone's noses.
Fediel: Ah, yes! Chocolate!
Chulainn: Wow! They look like decorations!
Fediel: Nom... The sweetness just melts on my tongue...
Fediel: Chomp... The whole thing just melted in my mouth! I can't stop eating!
Ferdia: Chulainn. Say, "Aaah."
Chulainn: Aaah!
Yum!
Miach: Haha...
Miach: (We have a lot of work to do until the townspeople can just sit back and relax with chocolates in hand like this...)
Fediel: What's the matter, Erune lass! Do you not want some too? Try doing that "ahh" thing!
Miach: Huh?
Miach: Oh. Aaahh...
Miach: It's delicious!
Chulainn: Mm-hm! Very!
While the garden has yet to be restored to its former beauty, it proves tidy enough for a tea party—a moment of reprieve for all.
Vyrn: So good!
Vyrn: You gotta try some of this candied apple for yourself, (Captain)!
Presented with the confection from a cheery Vyrn, (Captain) takes a bite from the opposite end.
Vyrn: Well? See what I mean?
Vyrn: Heheh, it's nice to be out and about with just the two of us!
Vyrn: Hanging out with everyone is cool too, but we've so many great memories to reminisce on when it's just us two!
Fediel: Ah yes, the sight of a dyad in bliss is one sight that never fails to impress!
Vyrn: Gah! Not you again!
Fediel: There's no need to be on guard. Don't mind me and go about your business like the dyad you are.
Vyrn: Look... I'm grateful to you that me and (Captain) can go on a date like this, but...
Vyrn: What are you here for today?
Fediel: Oh, I almost forgot! I have something to tell the singularity!
Fediel: I wish to see more of dyads and the things they pass on to the next generation.
Vyrn: Huh?
Fediel: To that end, you must succeed in your journey to Estalucia, Singularity!
Vyrn: You mean... you'll be cheerin' us on?
Fediel: In a way, yes. After all, my observation of dyads hinges greatly on your success, Singularity!
Vyrn: If you put it that way...
  1. Success might as well be my middle name!

Choose: Success might as well be my middle name!
Vyrn: Ooh yeah! Watch out, Estalucia—we're comin' to ya!
A glimmer of satisfaction crosses Fediel's face as she watches the two nod in agreement.
The Black of the Six Dragons then looks over the horizon, a tinge of compassion evident in her eyes.
