A knight from a lost kingdom, wandering ever onward in a pilgrimage of atonement. Naoise once served with great distinction in his king's military, only to see the kingdom ruined by the very monarch he swore to serve. Bereft of a path he once knew, Naoise began a pilgrimage to atone for the countless lives lost on his behalf. His encounter with you shines a ray of light into his life, prompting him to join your cause. Despite calling himself a gourmet, his unique ability to appreciate Katalina's cooking suggests that something might be wrong with his taste buds.

Trivia

Etymology

  • Naoise's name likely comes from the Naoise of Irish mythology, a handsome and talented warrior who was King Conchobar of Ulster's nephew. He fell in love with a woman, Deirdre, who his uncle wished to marry. They eloped together but he was eventually killed. The King took Deirdre as his wife and she later died from her grief.[7]
  • Some of Naoise's skill names are in German.
    • "Drachen Ritter Shield" means "dragon knight shield"
    • "Erwachen" means "Awakening"
  • His charge attack, Lansai Tairngire, is likely derived from Irish.

Happy Birthday Cutscenes
# Link Text
1

Happy birthday, (Captain). I am glad to be able to celebrate with you this year too.
You have helped me face every crisis Alster Island has suffered through...
The appreciation I feel for your friendship and kindness is more than words can adequately express.
I think actions would do much better than words to repay you for all you've done.
You can count on me to see you and Lyria through to the end of the skies, where your father awaits...
After all, I cannot hope to protect my island if I'm not able to keep a promise like that.
Please, allow me to fulfill my oaths as a knight.
I will utilize the power Scathacha has given me and protect you throughout your journey to Estalucia.

2

Naoise: Happy birthday, (Captain).
Elisheba: Oh, we couldn't be more proud of you, (Captain)!
I'm delighted we'll be able to share some of Alster's local specialties at your banquet. I'm sure you'll love it.
Naoise's mother, Elisheba, has stopped by to help everyone prepare for (Captain)'s birthday celebration.
Naoise: I may now possess power that surpasses mortal limits, but strength alone isn't enough.
Even on such an auspicious day, all I could do was carry the ingredients into the kitchen...
If I were only as talented as my mother—she seems to be capable of doing so much more.
Regardless, it's an honor to play a part in your celebration, if only that much.
So if you feel the need to ask me for any assistance, please do not hesitate. I'll be more than happy to answer the call.

Happy New Year Cutscenes

1

Happy New Year, (Captain). I apologize for my snow-covered appearance.
Chulainn and I joined the children in town for a snowball fight.
Unfortunately, I couldn't control my strength, and the snowballs I made were hard as rocks. Needless to say, I wasn't tossing them.
The children all started targeting me, as I was naturally the biggest and fittest target...
I suppose the most important thing is that Chulainn and the rest enjoyed themselves.
The children haven't had it easy during the reconstruction efforts. They must have been forcing themselves to put on smiles...
I was wondering if I should use these hard snowballs as the basis for snowmen and give the children something else to enjoy.
Choose: We can make them together.
Thank you, (Captain). I shall spare no effort for the children's happiness.

2

Ah, (Captain). I hope you aren't feeling too chilly after this morning's New Year's Day festivities.
I'll put on a hot pot of tea for you. That ought to warm you right up.
Mother sent me a package of tea leaves from the Alster mountains the other day.
"Just a little something to show our appreciation from all of us in Alster."
"Also, please enjoy these baked goods we've enclosed. They should keep for a long time."
I should be able to brew something satisfactory with these leaves.
The days are getting colder, Captain. Do take care of yourself to stay warm in the coming days.

3

Naoise: Happy New Year, (Captain). We were fortunate to find ourselves under clear skies to view the sunrise.
Seruel: I imagine you must be chilly after standing on deck for so long. Please help yourself to a cup of this tea that Naoise has prepared.
(Captain) thanks Naoise for the tea and takes a long sip. Meanwhile, Seruel adjusts the captain's scarf.
Seruel: Keep warm, and take care not to catch a cold. It would be a shame to begin the new year by falling ill, don't you agree?
Naoise: Here's to your continued health in the coming year, (Captain). Would you care for a refill?
Choose: Yes, please!
Naoise: I'm happy to be of service. It's an ample reward for my mother driving the proper method for brewing these leaves into my head.
Seruel: Tea leaves from the mountains of Alster Island, was it? I'm grateful to be able to enjoy such a delicious cup of tea at any time.
Naoise: I'm proud to say that I can brew this tea in any place and with any equipment, and it will have the same flavor.
It's truly a pleasure to have the privilege of serving this tea to you both during your downtime.
I brought cookies from the kitchen to pair with the tea as well, so please take as much time as you need to relax and warm up.

(Captain) travels to Alster Island, where Naoise is looking after Chulainn.
Naoise: (Captain)'s here... Come, Chulainn, give a greeting.*
Choose: She doesn't seem happy. What's wrong?
Naoise: Her mood took a turn after hearing that Ferdia received many sweets from the court aides and townspeople...
At first she seemed all right, but then she began to... grow somewhat shy? Before a great pout formed on her lips.
Chulainn. I also received sweets from the court aides, and have been receiving them from a young age.
They were expressions of friendship and gratitude - nothing more or less.
I'm sure the townspeople gave their gifts because they have come to respect Ferdia in the same manner...
Eyes meeting with Chulainn's, (Captain) heaves a heavy sigh as Naoise draws the wrong conclusion.
Naoise: (Captain), what are you sighing for?
You want me to eat your sweets and... rethink what I've said? A-all right... Thank you?

2

A Valentine's Day gift for me? Thank you, (Captain).
Just knowing that you've remembered me on this day is enough to bring joy to my heart.
Since awakening as a dragonian I've gone through some dramatic changes, inside and out.
But you've treated me no differently, for the heart is not changed so easily. You taught me that.
Although things may continue to change, my commitment to Alster will forever remain unwavering.
Not to mention my commitments to you, Lyria, Seruel, Heles, and Scathacha of course.
I simply hope to remain true to these ideals while I accompany you on this journey.

3

Naoise: It's a great pleasure to receive a Valentine's Day gift from you, (Captain).
I have yet to master my power as a dragonian, but I will remain dedicated to my training day in and day out...
So that I will someday be able to use it to aid you on your journey.
Only then will I be able to hold my head high and feel truly worthy of receiving this gift.
Seeing Naoise's earnest smile, (Captain) grins wearily in response.
Seruel: What's this? A Valentine's Day gift for Naoise? Oh dear... I imagine you now know the suffering that comes with that.
Naoise: Seruel? What do you...
Seruel: Yes, countless ladies—castle attendants and townswomen alike—have fallen before those ironclad defenses.
After all, Naoise is about as dense as they come about such matters. You have my condolences.
Naoise: Seruel? What do you mean by that? Seruel!

White Day Cutscenes

1

(Captain)... I would love nothing more than to give you your White Day gift...
I am deeply sorry, but could you give me a day... no, half a day to bring it to you?
Seruel and I viewed today as a chance to bake our own sweets... As you can imagine, our efforts ended in a massive failure.
We deemed it unwise to throw blood-filled batter into the oven, which is why I now head for a sweets shop instead.
I've helped Heles with her baking since we were young, but I'm ashamed to admit I've made little to no progress in my own skills.
Why, even Scathacha has made leaps and bounds more progress than I, since she's taken to practicing in the kitchen lately.
It's doubly embarrassing when I consider that my mother served the royal family for so long, and I picked up nothing from her...
If you have any shops you prefer, please do let me know.

2

Oh... Oh no...
A-apologies, Captain! Please... if you could... wait just a moment!
Ahh... Well, I was hoping to present you with this for White Day.
I don't know my own strength it seems... I ended up crushing your gift.
I have a ways to go as a dragonian—that much is clear. Allow me to apologize for such a crass display.
My clumsiness is something I am well aware of. Unfortunately, even with my newfound strength, that aspect of myself remains unchanged.
If it isn't too much trouble, could you tell me what it is that you would like?
I'm sure you would appreciate it that much more than if I were to carelessly buy you something not to your liking.
My apologies for wasting your time. If time permits, hopefully I can procure it for you today.

3

Naoise: Whoa!
Oh no... I used too much force again...
Peeking into the galley to see Naoise and Seruel hard at work, (Captain) calls out to them.
Naoise: (Captain)! Er... Since today is White Day, I thought I would offer you some tea and sweets.
So I was attempting to bake scones to pair with the tea. But, well...
Seruel: The fact that there can be such a vast difference in ability even though I used to assist my sister in the same way is... mysterious, to say the least.
Naoise: Urgh... Practice makes perfect, as they say. Unfortunately, I don't have much spare time for honing my cooking skills...
Seruel: Well, rest assured that with me here to offer aid, you don't have to worry about them tasting strange, (Captain).
So just relax and wait for teatime.
Naoise: I apologize for keeping you waiting, but I'll see to it that your patience is properly rewarded!

1

Happy Halloween, (Captain). I see you've dressed up for the occasion.
Haha... My apologies, I'm not laughing at you. I just remembered something from a long time ago.
When I was young, I was a little fixated on how cute Seruel's and Heles's ears were.
My fixation was to the point that I cried and asked my mother why I didn't have similar ears of my own...
She finally acquiesced one Halloween and made me a pair that looked exactly like Seruel's ears.
I still fondly remember that day. Seruel, Heles, and I dressed up and walked all around the castle together.
It would make me happy to see you have as much fun as we did that Halloween.
Which is why I am prepared to accept any manner of trick you have planned for me with no complaints.

2

Naoise's Voice: Mother, I...
Walking down the hallway, (Captain) hears Naoise's bewildered voice and turns to him.
Elisheba: Ah! Happy Halloween, (Captain)!
We're still in the middle of preparing, so you'll have to wait a little longer if it's candy you're after.
You don't plan on keeping (Captain) waiting all day, do you, Naoise? Come on out already.
Naoise: Mother... My duties this Halloween were to make sure everyone in town stays safe—
Elisheba: Who says you can't do so while sporting Erune ears? In fact, you'll stick out like a sore thumb if you're not in costume!
I remember how you used to always cry about wanting ears just like Seruel and Heles as a boy too...
Naoise: Mother!
Elisheba: And I'm sure Scathacha will be delighted to see you like this. Now quit your bellyaching and put it on.
Choose: I wanna see too!
Naoise: Ngh... If you say so, Captain, I suppose I'll... go ahead and change.

3

Naoise: Whoa!
Choose: Happy Halloween, Naoise!
Naoise: Oh, (Captain)! You certainly took me by surprise. So that was a Halloween prank!
I can certainly handle it since I'm solidly built, but getting too carried away could be dangerous, so please be careful.
Seruel: Oh? As someone who caused his fair share of surprise in the past, I'm not sure you're in a position to lecture someone else, Naoise.
Naoise: ...!
Seruel: Granted, it wasn't Halloween...
But when you went missing, I was so shocked that I thought my heart would stop.
Naoise: Urgh... Y-you have my deepest apologies...
Seruel: In light of that event, perhaps I ought to borrow (Captain)'s words from time to time.
Naoise. Trick or treat!
Naoise: Urgh... I-I'll have the trick, please. But I ask that you show mercy...

Happy Holidays Cutscenes

1

Twenty years ago, on a holy night much like this one, we secretly left the castle as snow fell from the sky.
Heles was intent on showing Seruel the town and its people... I followed as best I could behind them.
We saw house after house decorated with bright lights, and observed the kind citizens sharing their joy. The sights were as beautiful as a starry night sky.
Through our adventure, Heles impressed upon Seruel that the royal family existed to protect its people's happiness.
Heles understood, from a young age, the importance of her duties and always strove to fulfill them to the best of her ability.
She's always held strength and determination beyond her years... Only now do I realize and admire it.
But I would be remiss in hoping to compare myself to her level of resolve and commitment.
Though I will never be as pure as the white snow... The least I can do is ensure I never misuse this power within me.

2

Naoise: Phew...
Accompanied by his mother, Naoise single-handedly carries a large tree onto the Grandcypher.
Choose: You're carrying it by yourself?
Naoise: Ah, Captain! Happy holidays.
Ever since awakening as a dragonian, my strength has increased tenfold... This tree feels as light as a feather.
Elisheba: Remember that this power is a blessing from Lady Scathacha, so be sure to use it to assist (Captain), okay?
Naoise: Of course, Mother. Strength is meaningless without having others to protect.
Elisheba: It wasn't so long ago you used to try and help in the kitchen, only to end up knocking over all sorts of pots and pans.
And now look at you, using your strength to be (Captain)'s little helper. You've done a mother proud.
Naoise: (Captain)'s little... helper?
The captain inadvertently lets out a giggle at Naoise's inability to argue with his mother.
Naoise: It appears I still have much to learn, (Captain).

3

Naoise: Ah! Please be careful, 乾杯!
The captain sits atop Naoise's shoulders, hanging decorations on an enormous tree.
Seruel: (Captain), if you make large movements like that, even Naoise will lose his balance.
Unless you wish to spend the holidays in the infirmary, I ask that you make an attempt to heighten your focus.
Naoise: My apologies, (Captain). If only I could anticipate your movements more accurately...
Seruel: You shouldn't indulge the captain, Naoise.
And (Captain), try to keep your antics to a minimum as well.
Otherwise, I'll have to bestow the honor of placing the star on top to someone else.
Naoise: Seruel...
Speaking of placing the star, it was customary for you to do so on the castle tree in Irestill, wasn't it?
Seruel: My sister had every right to handle the role, but she always gave it to me for whatever reason.
Naoise: Heh. That just goes to show how kind Heles is.
Seruel: That was kindness? Well, perhaps she had more compassion at her core than her little brother was able to see...
Naoise: Indeed. Even though she was labeled a tomboy, she was a fine princess who always acted out of consideration for those around her.

Memories of Old

Naoise and Seruel reminisce as they enjoy tea in the Great Court's garden. The two recall how they have always been close and consider each other brothers. Back when Naoise departed Alster Island and went missing, Seruel was overjoyed to find him again after boarding (Captain)'s ship. While expressing their gratitude toward the captain, the two are interrupted by Heles, who joins their tea party.

It is a day like any other on Alster Island.
Inside the public library of Emmain Macha, the castle of Irestill Kingdom, Prince Seruel pours over books.
Young Seruel: ...
Young Naoise: Seruel?
Young Naoise: Where are you?
Young Seruel: Sigh... Naoise, you're being too loud. This is a library.
Young Naoise: Oh! My apologies... That's where you were.
Young Seruel: Did you finish training with Uisneach?
Young Naoise: Yes! Would you like to have tea now? Mother baked some sweets.
Young Seruel: All right. I'll join you.
Young Naoise: Okay, let's head to the courtyard.
Young Naoise: Nom...
Young Naoise: This is delicious! I didn't taste anything suspicious, so please go ahead.
Young Seruel: You always claim everything is delicious.
Young Seruel: But I suppose Elisheba has yet to let me down. Nom...
Young Seruel: ...
Young Naoise: Hehe...
Young Seruel: Is there something stuck to my face?
Young Naoise: No, not at all. I was happy to see you smile.
Young Naoise: You haven't been your usual self lately...
Young Seruel: (That's because life has been boring, what with you spending all your time training with Uisneach.)
Young Seruel: (Saying as much won't change anything though.)
Young Naoise: Mother also told me you weren't eating enough. There should be plenty of light food here that you might like. Please eat up!
Young Seruel: Shouldn't you be the one eating more?
Young Seruel: All that exercise must have made you hungry.
Young Naoise: You make a good point. I have to eat well in order to grow and become a knight sooner!
Young Naoise: It does make me a little sad to spend so much time away from you, but I want to be able to protect you and our kingdom.
Young Naoise: I'll keep working hard to become a great knight! Just wait and see!
Young Seruel: Is that so...
Young Seruel: You have my full support, Naoise. I'll count on you to protect our people.
Young Naoise: I swear I will!
Seruel: Hah...
Naoise: What is it, Seruel?
Seruel: Memories of our youth sprung to mind as I sipped this tea you brewed.
Though the castle has now become the Great Court, Seruel and Naoise find themselves sitting in the garden and enjoying tea together, much like old times.
Naoise: Now that you mention it... We often relaxed here whenever it came time for tea.
Seruel: It is wonderful to see that the garden's beauty has been restored to its former splendor.
Eyes brimming with emotion, Seruel looks out over the blooming flowers that surround them.
Seruel: The fountain was in shambles, and the plant life completely ruined when we first returned.
Naoise: One of the many victims of my failures... I have caused you and the people of this island much pain.
Seruel: If only someone hadn't broken his promise and left the island when he should have stayed.
Naoise: Ah... Regarding that...
Seruel: I was merely joking.
Seruel: I am content enough that we were able to meet again at all, thanks to (Captain)'s aid.
Naoise: I, too, am grateful... We owe the captain more than we can ever repay.
The two speak of the incident that occurred a while after Naoise joined (Captain)'s crew and Seruel met with (Captain) and friends for the first time.
Lyria: That's why we were wondering if the person Seruel has been searching for might be you, Naoise.
Naoise: Seruel is on this ship?
Naoise: Of all the things I never expected...
Lyria: I'm sorry to spring this on you, but (Captain)'s talking with Seruel right now and trying to get him to wait before...
Vyrn's Voice: Hey, didn't we tell you to hold your horses!
Seruel: ...!
Lyria: S-Seruel!
Vyrn: Sorry, we tried to tell 'im to give us some time, but...
Vyrn: The moment (Captain) said Naoise's name, he just rushed outta there.
Naoise: ...
Naoise: Seruel, I...
Right as Naoise is about to apologize, Seruel's next move stuns him into silence.
Naoise: ...!
With all the strength of a man who has found his lost brother, Seruel wraps his arms around Naoise and squeezes him in a tight embrace.
Seruel: ...
Seruel: I'm so glad you're all right...
Naoise: Seruel...
Seruel: There is a lot we need to speak about, but we can save that for later.
Seruel pulls away from Naoise, then turns to bow before (Captain).
Seruel: I thank you for allowing Naoise to accompany you on your journey all this time.
Seruel: Without your assistance, I might have lost my dear knight and friend forever.
Seruel: Truly... I owe you more than words can properly express, (Captain).
Seruel: (Captain)'s eyes went wide as saucers that day.
Seruel: I suspect that my show of respect came as somewhat of a surprise.
Naoise: Is that so?
Seruel: It is. The captain first met me when I was not at my finest, and my behavior left much to be desired.
Seruel: Reflecting on it now, the easygoing behavior of the captain and crew might have been what saved me from heading down a darker path.
Naoise: I feel very much the same way. (Captain) brought me onboard and never gave up on me, even when I wished to sink into despair.
Naoise: I can only pray that I am capable enough to repay their kindness and keep everyone safe throughout the rest of their journey.
Seruel: With peace and stability finally restored to Alster Island, we should soon be able to set a date for your return to the Grandcypher.
Seruel: I'm certain they already miss your coddling and courtly mannerisms.
Naoise: I imagine (Captain) would be overjoyed to have you and Heles come back as well.
Seruel: I do not doubt it. Besides, while you safeguard Lyria and accompany (Captain) to Estalucia...
Seruel: Someone has to look out for you.
Naoise: Seruel... It would be my honor to have you observe as I fulfill my promise this time!
Seruel: I eagerly anticipate it.
Wryly grinning, Seruel brings the teacup to his lips.
Heles: What do we have here? A tea party for two?
Seruel: Sister. Is there something you require of us?
Heles: That would depend on you. How do you imagine a sister might feel when she isn't invited to join her brothers?
Heles: You always did have a habit of leaving me out of the fun.
Naoise: My sincerest apologies, Heles! Wait a moment, I'll be right back with a cup for you...
Heles's words send Naoise rushing toward the kitchen.
Seruel: Sigh... And you, Sister, have always had a habit of teasing Naoise.
Heles: My comment was intended for you, but with Naoise forever at your side, I suppose I should have made myself more clear.
Seruel: Goodness gracious...
Heaving an exaggerated sigh, Seruel stands and gracefully pulls his empty chair out.
Seruel: My most beautiful and respected lady, please have a seat.
Heles: Very good. I shall gladly impose upon your kindness.
Inside the garden filled with childhood memories, Seruel, Heles, and Naoise enjoy a repose from their busy lives.
The deep bonds they have formed will surely carry them through whatever trials await on the road ahead.

What Waits Beyond Repentance

Following Medb's defeat, Scathacha is restricted to bed rest in order to recover from the injury to her core. She questions Naoise to see if he is suffering any side effects after awakening as a dragonian. He claims that he feels fine at the moment. As he aids the island in its rebuilding efforts, he marvels at the enormous strength and regenerative abilities that his dragonian powers now grant him, and swears to only use his powers for good.

After an initial failed assault on Alster Island, True Dragon Medb returned once more with a fury.
Her destructive efforts were repulsed, thanks to the help of (Captain)'s crew and the people of the island.
Gravely injured during the fighting, True Dragon Deirdre—otherwise known as Scathacha—is confined to bed rest for the time being.
Naoise: Pardon the intrusion. Scathacha, how are you feeling?
Scathacha: Naoise, again? I am not doing so poorly that you need to visit multiple times a day.
Scathacha: Elisheba impressed upon me the importance of my own recovery and leaving the rebuilding efforts to others.
Scathacha: But my mind grows numb with boredom, and I tire of even the act of yawning.
Naoise: I'm afraid there's only so much we can do when we have no method of effectively healing damage to a true dragon's core.
Naoise: We are only able to rely on your regenerative abilities, and for that I must ask you to please remain patient.
Scathacha: I fully understand. It is not my intention to cause you more concern, and so I will behave.
Scathacha: Though I am not the only one here who should be avoiding strain...
Scowling, Scathacha not-so-subtly refers to how Naoise's blood is infused with her own blood and mana.
Scathacha: You have little to no compatibility with my power, and yet you accepted a large quantity of my blood and awakened as a dragonian...
Scathacha: There is no telling what kind of adverse effects it will have on your flesh, let alone your very soul.
Naoise: At present, I feel no discomfort. In fact I might be doing better than ever.
Naoise: But if anything changes, I'll be certain to let you know.
Naoise: Worry not about me. Focus on your recovery first and foremost.
Scathacha: Your "worry not" tends to be unreliable at best. I'm starting to understand what Seruel has had to put up with all his life.
Naoise: S-surely you exaggerate...
Scathacha: For your sake I hope I am, but that is enough of that. I shall rest now. Give everyone else my greetings.
Naoise: All right. May you sleep well.
Naoise watches over Scathacha long enough for her breathing to even out, before he quietly slips out of the room.
Hardworking Youth: There we... go! Sir Naoise, could you move this debris next?
Naoise: Leave it to me. Should I just clear this whole area?
Hardworking Youth: If you wouldn't mind! But that's an awful lot for one person to carry. I'll give you a hand too.
Hardworking Youth: Huh?
The young man blinks in astonishment as Naoise easily picks up the large piece of debris on his own.
Hardworking Youth: A-amazing... Isn't that heavy?
Naoise: I suppose it is... But it's not too much for me.
Naoise: I apologize for startling you.
Hardworking Youth: I-it's okay! I guess I should've expected as much from a knight that protects our home.
Naoise: I can only strive to be worthy of the respect that's been given.
Naoise: Where should I bring this to?
Hardworking Youth: Oh, that alleyway over there will do just fine!
That evening, Naoise retires to his room and spends a long while staring at his hands.
Naoise: My physical strength has grown, I hardly ever tire, and my wounds heal rapidly...
Naoise: This is the power of a dragonian—the power Scathacha has bestowed upon me.
Naoise: I swear I shall never misuse it!
He clenches his fists tight as the oath leaves his lips.

What Waits Beyond Repentance: Scene 2

When Naoise wakes, he finds himself in True Dragon Deirdre's lair. Having fulfilled King Connor's orders to exterminate the dragon, he drags his battered body back toward the capital, but discovers that the monsters across the island have gone mad without Deirdre's influence and are attacking the kingdom. He wanders away, filled with guilt from the sin he has committed.

Naoise: Where am I?
Naoise wakes deep inside a forest, completely covered in blood.
Naoise: This is Deirdre's lair, isn't it...
Naoise: (I remember now. I came here because King Connor ordered me to hunt down Deirdre.)
Naoise: (Deirdre and I fought, and I was injured...)
Naoise: Am I still among the living?
In a sudden panic, he searches himself for the fatal wound he should have sustained, but finds only deep bruises marring his body instead.
Naoise: How...
Naoise: Perhaps I shouldn't think too deeply about this and be glad that I live at all.
Naoise: Returning to the castle and reporting my success to the king is my top priority.
Despite the disappearance of his grievous wound, he rushes back to the capital, body bruised and racked with pain.
But that is where his good fortune ends.
Raging Monster: ...!
Naoise: What... Why are the monsters attacking people?
Raging Monster: ...!
Naoise: Curse you...
Naoise: What is happening here? Is the capital safe?
Naoise frantically asks one of the citizens fleeing down the road away from the capital.
Fleeing Citizen 1: Mister, you gotta be crazy walking around with those wounds!
Naoise: I have to make haste for the capital!
Fleeing Citizen 2: You're only going to put yourself in danger there!
Fleeing Citizen 1: Yeah, the capital's overrun by monsters. You'll probably only find your own death if you go!
Naoise: What?
Fleeing Citizen 1: The king and the knights told us to get the heck out and evacuated us first...
Naoise: No... How could this have happened?
Fleeing Citizen 2: There's no need for you to sacrifice yourself too. Come with us. We'll treat those injuries of yours.
Naoise: I cannot. I am a knight... I must...
Naoise: Fulfill... my...
Fleeing Citizen 2: Oh, no! Hang on!
Naoise: ...
Naoise wakes to finds his body treated, as voices outside the door speak.
Citizen's Voice 1: How's he faring?
Citizen's Voice 2: The doctor took a look at him, but he's still sleeping.
Citizen's Voice 1: I see... The way he's dressed means he's a knight, right? He must've fought many monsters before he collapsed in front of us...
Naoise: (No, that's not what I...)
Citizen's Voice 1: Folks from Entre Island are flying over Alster to try and check how things are from above.
Citizen's Voice 1: Walking around is out of the question since there are monsters everywhere on the ground level.
Citizen's Voice 2: That's a good idea... I wonder why the monsters suddenly attacked in the first place.
Citizen's Voice 1: I heard rumors that it's because the king had Deirdre hunted down.
Naoise: ...!
Citizen's Voice 2: Deirdre? As in... the dragon that inhabited the forest?
Citizen's Voice 1: Yeah. Theory is that when Deirdre's healthy and hearty, the monsters are too scared to run amok.
Citizen's Voice 2: But as soon as Deirdre is gone, they have no reason not to do as they please... It seems plausible.
Citizen's Voice 1: No way to know for sure, but that's what people're thinking. Whatever the cause is, we've got our hands full with plenty of other issues right now.
Citizen's Voice 2: There are still people to evacuate off the island, and we've only got so many airships. Not to mention all the food and other necessities we'll have to transport...
Citizen's Voice 1: Would be nice if the monsters could calm down at least a little bit.
As Naoise listens to the conversation, remorse gnaws away at his insides.
Naoise: What... I...
Naoise: What have I done...
Naoise: I don't deserve to set foot again on Alster Island...
He soon leaves the residence, guilt clogging his conscious, and wanders away.

What Waits Beyond Repentance: Scene 3

Startling awake from the dream of his past, Naoise heads to the kitchen for water and finds his mother Elisheba there. Naoise expresses his regret for blindly following King Connor's command, but Elisheba refutes that equal blame lies with her for not stopping the king. Despite their guilt, Elisheba reminds him that they must keep living the lives they've been given, and Naoise once again swears to repay the people who have given him reason to live.

Naoise: ...!
Naoise wakes with a start in the middle of the night.
Naoise: Pant...
Naoise: It was merely a dream...
Naoise: Or rather... a reminder of a sin that I bear.
Haunted by his stained past, Naoise catches his breath, then gulps the nearby cup of water. He leaves his room not long after.
Elisheba: Well, well. Come to the kitchen this late to sneak a quick bite, have you?
Naoise: Mother... I am here to refill my cup of water.
Elisheba: If that is the case, then take a seat. I shall prepare a pot of tea.
Naoise: Sigh...
Naoise: It has been a while since you've brewed me tea. Its taste is as refreshing as ever.
Elisheba: The compliment is appreciated, but I'm afraid I cannot trust the accuracy of your appraisal when everything tastes fine to your tongue.
Elisheba: You resemble Uisneach in that aspect, in addition to your prowess with a spear.
Naoise: Is that so...
Elisheba: When I first started to practice making sweets for Lady Mugain, I had Uisneach taste them for me.
Elisheba: He was entirely unhelpful, as he claimed everything was delicious.
Elisheba: In the end, I had to ask Sir Connor to judge instead.
Naoise: You truly approached him for such a thing?
Elisheba: He was not yet king at the time. Regardless, I was not one to allow differences in social standing curb my tongue.
Naoise: I suppose that is true...
Elisheba: Well, I cannot entirely fault you for your senses. It must be useful for a knight to enjoy whatever he can eat.
Elisheba: Especially out in the field, where flavors are often secondary to nutrition.
Naoise: Father once taught me a similar lesson—being particular about food is unbecoming of a knight.
Elisheba: You and Uisneach make the perfect knights by that definition then.
Elisheba's lips curl over the edge of her teacup.
Naoise: Father always gave the highest praise for your cooking.
Naoise: (Perhaps his last meal consisted of rations... assuming he had a moment to eat at all.)
Naoise: (My foolish transgression gave him no moment to rest. He gave his life defending the people against monster after monster.)
Naoise: (He was the epitome of an honorable and just knight, beloved by everyone, and yet...)
Elisheba: Naoise.
Elisheba: You dishonor Uisneach's sacrifice by your despondent behavior.
Naoise: Mother...
Elisheba: It falls to us as his family to remember him with pride—he was an exemplar of a knight, drawing his last breaths in defense of our kingdom.
Elisheba: You would do well to realize that lamenting his last moments is a stain upon his honor.
Naoise: Indeed... You speak the truth. He was a true knight among knights who gave everything he had for his people.
Elisheba: In comparison, we have much to atone for. You, who obeyed King Connor's orders to hunt Deirdre without question...
Elisheba: And I, who failed to protect King Connor in the midst of the chaos.
Naoise: The cause of Irestill Kingdom's ruin was not our king's command, but my own ineptitude as a knight.
Naoise: I never considered why he would wish to hunt Deirdre...
Naoise: I obeyed, chasing honor as a knight, but I was a fool. This I won't deny.
Elisheba: You are self-aware at least. A knight's duty does not call for blind obedience.
Elisheba: On top of that, I informed Seruel you had gone to deal with Deirdre...
Naoise: You were not in the wrong.
Naoise: The fault lies entirely with me. I was King Connor's counsel when he made his decision.
Elisheba: Then I am equally as guilty for anticipating his judgment and failing to change the outcome.
Elisheba: Naoise.
Naoise: Yes?
Elisheba: I had steeled myself to never face you again after you raised your hand against our guardian Deirdre and brought ruin to our kingdom.
Elisheba: It was to be my punishment as the one who raised you.
Naoise: I recall...
Elisheba: But Deirdre, kindhearted as she is, has allowed us a second chance. She is why I find myself able to speak with you now...
Elisheba: We must live the lives we have been granted. You understand what I mean, don't you?
Naoise: I do, Mother.
Naoise: Seruel, Heles, Scathacha, (Captain), and Lyria...
Naoise: They have given me this life, and so I swear I shall use it to repay my debts owed.
Elisheba gives an approving nod of Naoise's vow.
They spend the rest of their evening quietly drinking the remaining tea.

What Waits Beyond Repentance: Scene 4

Naoise and Chulainn join the reconstruction efforts for the castle town a few days after they begin. While the two clear debris from the streets, Scathacha shows up as True Dragon Deirdre, having snuck away from Elisheba's watchful eye to bring monsters to help. As monsters and citizens work together to repair the damaged town, Naoise uses his dragonian powers to aid as much as possible.

A few days have passed since reconstruction efforts for the town began. Today Naoise joins Chulainn to participate in the hard labor.
Chulainn: Are we helping the townspeople, Sir Naoise?
Naoise: We are. Ferdia will be helping Mother clean up the Great Court.
Naoise: I hope you don't mind if we clear up some of the debris in town. There is still quite a lot left.
Chulainn: No problem! I'm strong! I'll carry stuff for everyone!
Naoise: That is certainly the spirit. This way, Chulainn.
Chulainn: Oh! Hi, Granny! We came to help out!
Old Woman: Hello there, Chulainn! And hello to you too, Naoise. I see you've come to assist again today.
Naoise: I am happy to. If you need any manual labor done, do not hesitate to ask.
Old Woman: That is much appreciated. Well then, shall we clean up the main street first?
Chulainn: Sounds good to me! Me and Naoise are strong enough to handle the heavy stuff!
Old Woman: My, that was impressive! You tidied it all up in the blink of an eye.
Chulainn: Ehehe!
Naoise: That should be enough to clear a path... Is there anything else you need assistance with?
Old Woman: Thank you both for your hard work. I think we should take a little break before tackling the rest.
Old Woman: I'll go make us some tea.
The group finds a spot away from the other people still working and sits down.
Old Woman: By the way, Naoise, how is Scathacha doing?
Old Woman: I haven't seen her since all the commotion started. She isn't hurt, is she?
Naoise: Er... She's...
Naoise: (This kindly woman doesn't know Scathacha is actually Deirdre... How can I possibly give an honest answer?)
Chulainn: Granny, about that! Scathacha is okay!
Naoise: Chulainn?
Chulainn: She's helping Ferd and Lady Elisheba clean the Great Court!
Old Woman: Is that so? Now that you mention it, she does live there, doesn't she.
Chulainn: Yeah! She told me to tell you she's fine!
As Naoise blinks at her surprisingly swift and confident explanation, Chulainn leans in to whisper into his ear.
Chulainn: Lady Scathacha figured this might happen, so she prepped me ahead of time.
Chulainn: She didn't want to worry anyone since the town's busy with fixing things up.
Naoise: I see!
Naoise: Scathacha is always two steps ahead, isn't she? She must have predicted I would have a hard time answering...
Old Woman: Chulainn and Scathacha are both so young, but already this hardworking.
Old Woman: I have to make sure I keep up with you youngsters.
Chulainn: Let's all do our best to fix the town!
They finish their break, then go back to clearing the street. A little while later, most of the debris is gone.
Chulainn: Granny, where else should we clean up?
Old Woman: Let's see. Now that the main street is clear for the most part...
Looking around, the old woman spots a young man lifting debris into a cart.
Hardworking Youth: There we... go.
Old Woman: Oh dear! That's quite the load...
Naoise: Allow me.
Hardworking Youth: Oh, Sir Naoise! It's all right, I can handle this much on my own.
Chulainn: Hey there, mister! Let me help too! Where are you cleaning up?
Hardworking Youth: I'm trying to open up one of the clogged side streets to the west...
Scathacha's Voice: Tell me more.
Hardworking Youth: Lady Deirdre!
Scathacha swoops down from above, dropping off several monsters from her back as she lands.
Monster: Rawr!
Scathacha: These ones requested to assist with repairs. Would you mind letting them join?
Old Woman: Thank you, that's mighty kind of all of you! I know you must be busy with your own recovery, and yet here you are helping us.
Old Woman: Thank you too, Lady Deirdre.
Scathacha: Think nothing of it. All I have done is serve as a translator. Chulainn, can you show these ones what to do?
Chulainn: Sure can! Come on, guys, follow me!
After checking the location one more time with the young man, Chulainn leads the group of monsters to clear the side street.
Naoise quietly approaches Scathacha as they watch the group walk away.
Naoise: Scathacha, are you sure you should be out and about?
Scathacha: Lying in bed the entire day will drive me mad.
Scathacha: Besides, I cannot sit idly by while the children of this island require my guidance.
Naoise: Does Mother know about this?
Scathacha: We... should make sure our stories match later, when she eventually discovers my absence.
Naoise: I have never successfully deceived her once my entire life... I can only promise I will try...
Scathacha: Hm...
Scathacha chuckles, gazing at the townspeople and monsters with fond eyes.
Scathacha: I am prepared to offer anything, even my life, if it meant protecting the peace here.
Scathacha: You feel the same, don't you?
Naoise: I do.
Naoise: (I will never be able to fully atone for my sins in this lifetime.)
Naoise: (But at the very least, I can utilize my power to safeguard the strong, kind people of this island.)
Naoise: I should go help as well. Take care not to push yourself...
Scathacha: I know, I know. You do not need to nag me.
Chulainn: All right, are you ready?
Chulainn: Lift!
Monster: Grawr!
Chulainn: Hrrnnng!
Naoise: Chulainn, let me give you a hand.
Chulainn: Oh, Sir Naoise... Whoa!
Naoise walks up and easily lifts the rubble which Chulainn and the monsters were struggling to prop up with a lever.
Chulainn: Wow, that was awesome! You're so strong, Sir Naoise!
Monster: Rawr!
Chulainn: We can't let Sir Naoise do all the work! Let's keep at it, everyone!
Though the danger has passed, there is yet much work to be done. The people of Alster Island face the hardships ahead together.
Among them, the knight who bears the blood of a true dragon uses his newfound power to aid both the people and monsters of his home.
