(Captain)! Happy birthday!
Ooh, I'm so happy it's your birthday... I really, really am...
It's like it was my birthday! Hee hee... Anyway, (Captain)...
You mean a lot to me, you know.
Happy birthday... And best wishes, okay?

2

Happy Birthday, (Captain)!
Hee-hee... I'm happy we get to celebrate your birthday again this year.
Oh, I know! How about I grant you a birthday request!
Your wish is my command, (Captain)! Hee-hee!

3

(Captain)! (Captain)! Happy birthday!
You just rest and relax today!
Leave all your duties and chores to me! I'll wash your clothes, cook your meals, tuck you into bed! Everything!
Mm... But if I do that, I won't be able to talk to you much apart from sleepytime together.
Ohh... What am I going to do... I want to take care of you, but... It sounds so lonely...
Hm? I-I don't need push myself? Hehe, that's so sweet of you, (Captain).
We'll spend the day together then! C'mon, (Captain).

4

(Captain)! (Captain)! Happy birthday!
Let's have a party today!
Fif and Eahta said they'd come over too!
We can chat while munching on yummy birthday cake!
I'm going to tell them all about why I like you so much, (Captain)!
Teehee, it's going to be so much fun!

Happy New Year!
Say, (Captain)... Wanna go watch the sunrise together?
It's a little far from here, but the mountain I used to be cooped up in had the prettiest sunrises.
When I think about the possibility of watching a sunrise like that with you, (Captain), I... well...
It fills my heart with glee, honestly. So, (Captain)? Looking forward to watching the sunrise with me?
Hee hee! Then let's go!

2

I'm making New Year's mochi!
Which kind do you want, (Captain?) How would you like it to be cooked?
Whatever I like? Aw, you're so nice, (Captain).
In that case, you'll have a full course of mochi! I'll be back with them in a second, so just sit tight.

3

(Captain)... Will you listen to your big sister's little problem?
See, I'm a fair bit shorter than you aren't I? Even though I'm supposed to be the big sister here...
Because of that, I can't cuddle you right when it's cozy time...
So... do you think it would be weird if my resolution this year is to get taller?
Or... do you think I could ask you to crouch down for me when we cuddle?
Ehehe. Well, problem solved, then!
All right! Time to give your big sister a hug!

4

There's a good-luck katana known as the goshintou...
That cleaves through misfortune for a path to prosperity.
The katana I use isn't meant for such a feat, but...
Maybe I can be your good-luck charm for the year if you don't mind, (Captain).
I'll be sure to safeguard you from anything and everything.
Here's to another fantastic year of skyfaring, (Captain)!

(Captain), (Captain)! Happy Valentine's!
These are chocolates I made just for you!
I hope you like them... Say, (Captain), are you okay eating them by yourself?
How about you sit next to me and I feed them to you?
There you go. Now then, say aah!
Well? How's it taste?
Hee hee... I'll make another batch for you next year.
Until then, my dearest (Captain).

2

(Captain), I made chocolates!
Open wide, now! Say aahh! They're good? I'm so glad to hear that!
But something feels a little bit lacking this year, don't you think?
Wanna try feeding them to me instead, as a change of pace?
Just let me know how you want to eat them, (Captain).

3

(Captain)! Oh, (Captain)! Guess what?
I just learned how to make my chocolates even tastier!
First let's start with how we always do it. Say aaah!
Hehe, do you like it?
Next we'll try it while you rest your head on my lap.
Then finally I'll feed you while running my hands through your hair. Trust me, you're going to like it!
Now come here, little (Captain)!

4

Don't think this chocolate will taste the same as the last year's. I learned some new techniques from the chocolatier.
He really liked my work.
He even invited me to work with him.
I turned him down though.
Because my chocolate is meant exclusively for you, (Captain).
Ehehe... I almost feel embarrassed just saying this, but ...
I hope you enjoy every bite of my very special chocolate...
Bon appetit!

So today's the day when boys thank girls... for everything they do, right?
I wonder... Did you get me anything, (Captain)? But...
I'm always gloomy... and too close... and you probably don't like me.
Oh, (Captain)... What should I do?
Hm? Is this to thank me for helping out onboard?
Heheheh... Thanks. I'm happy to know you feel that way.
But you know, someone to fawn over me would be the best present I could ask for.
Or something like that. Heheh.

2

These are for me, (Captain)? Why, thank you...
So I, ah... have a little request.
Will you feed me those chocolates yourself?
You will? Really? Hee-hee, thank you so much!
Aahh...

3

R-really? All day today you'll do whatever I want?
B-but I should be like a big sister to you. I should be the one taking care of you.
I-it's not that I don't want to... It's just that I wonder if it's really okay...
I... I really won't hold back—are you sure?
Well, in that case... I... want to rest my head on your lap.
Hehe. You're the best, (Captain)!

4

Whew... Haah... Erm... Ahem!
(Captain)! Can I... ask you for a favor?
I want to feel closer to you...
So if you don't mind...
C-could you give me a hug? And a head pat? And if you could also give me access to your mouth...
Y-yes? Oh, and I don't mean just today either. But every day...
Ehehe... It's nice to act like a spoiled child sometimes.

Everything okay, (Captain)? Finding plenty of candy?
Wanna go trick-or-treating together, (Captain)?
Or maybe I should just make you some candy myself? Would that be okay?
Hey, (Captain), I made you a lot of candy. But you'd better do something scary if you want some of it.
Huh? That's not how Halloween works? And here I thought I knew what I was doing...

2

Trick or treat? Now that's a difficult question.
On the one hand, I want to give you treats. On the other, I really have some good tricks in mind.
Is it okay if I indulge a little bit, (Captain)?
It is? In that case, let me give you some treats... And then you can play some tricks on me.

3

Aren't the children from town simply adorable? Makes me want to give up all my candy on the spot!
Mmm, they're so cute... I'm sure their little tricks are even cuter. Ohh, I want them to trick me so badly.
But I want to see their happy faces when I give them candy too. But if I do that they won't play any tricks on me... Ohh, what do I do...
Huh? Give them the candy after they trick me?
Y-you're a genius, (Captain)!
Time to put the plan into action! Come on, let's go together!

Happy holidays, (Captain)!
It's freezing today. Maybe we should huddle up together for warmth?
Hee hee... Come on, I don't bite! Hee hee...

2

Happy Holidays!
(Captain)! (Captain)! It's the most magical time of the year!
We just sat in front of the fireplace last year, so...
Wanna go into town as a change of pace? Hee, here! Take my hand!
Hehe, we're gonna have so much fun today, (Captain)!

3

You know, there was a time when I went away to train all alone on a remote snowy mountain.
Back then snow was nothing to me, but something that was cold and white.
But not anymore. Now I think it looks absolutely beautiful. Makes my heart flutter when I see those little flakes falling.
I bet it's because I'm not all by my lonesome self anymore. Because I'm with a special someone.
Psst, (Captain). Mind if we... cuddle a little?
Hehe. Let's just stay like this for a while.

4

Happy holidays, (Captain)! What a beautiful night this is.
Teehee, this is the fourth time I've been able to spend this special day with you. It makes me so happy...
What sort of present do you want? I'm ready to give you anything...
Hm? You just want me by your side?
Ehehe... It's the same with me. Just having ou nearby fills me with endless satisfaction.
I guess we make the perfect holiday gifts for each other. Ehehe.

The Flutterby Princess[edit]

One day, (Captain) and the crew visit Narmaya, the famous swordmaster, to learn the secret of her training. She confides in (Captain) that no one has ever recognized her efforts, and the party raises her spirits by telling her how much they admire her skills. Ever since, Narmaya has been strangely attached to the party, fussing over them at every opportunity, eventually offering to accompany them on their journey.

Narmaya: Hey, (Captain)! Are you OK? You're not hungry, are you? Shall I go and get you some fruit?
Narmaya: Oh, (Captain)! Are you cold? Here, take my coat!
(Captain) and the crew are visiting a forest where the air is still and the distant sounds of birds can be heard. Then…
Narmaya: (Captain)! Lyria! Vyrn!
Narmaya, the katana-wielding Draph, has come to be very attached to (Captain).
Vyrn: Heheheh… What's up with her?
Lyria: Hmm… Who knows?
Vyrn: Was it something we did?
The crew wonder what could have happened to make Narmaya so attached to (Captain).
One day, before the crew meet Narmaya, they hear about a strange swordmaster who combines magic and swordplay…
Thinking that they could pick up some useful tips from such a unique fighter, the crew head to the savage forest where she dwells…
Vyrn: Hey, Lyria? Are we really gonna find a swordmaster here?
Lyria: If the information we received is correct, they should be here…
Lyria: Ah! There! There's someone over there!
The crew look over to where Lyria is pointing. A woman holding a katana is sitting there, meditating quietly.
Narmaya: ……
Vyrn: Ah! That's the swordmaster! But what is she doing?
Lyria: She's meditating, isn't she? Katalina said that samurai do that when they want to concentrate!
Vyrn: Whoa! So she's the real deal!
Narmaya: Zzzzzz…
Vyrn: Wait… She's sleeping!
Lyria: You're right…
Vyrn: She wasn't concentrating, just having a snooze… Maybe this isn't the swordmaster after all.
Lyria: Hmm… Shall we wake her up? It's dangerous to sleep outside in a place like this…
(Captain) nods, and approaches the sleeping girl, but at that moment…
Narmaya: ……
The girl flickers like smoke, and disappears in a cloud of butterflies.
Vyrn: Wha-? Butterflies? She's gone!
(Captain) and the crew notice a butterfly flying behind them and turn around to look at it. Suddenly the woman appears again.
Narmaya: Good day to you.
Lyria: Ah! Erm… Good day to you too!
Narmaya: What's going on? What are you children doing here? It's dangerous! Are you lost?
Vyrn: Wh-whoa! Is that one of those moves where you combine the sword with magic?
Narmaya: H-huh? I just moved normally…
Lyria: Wha-? You just moved normally? Just by moving you did that?
Vyrn: Whoa, she's really something. I guess that's why they call them "swordmasters"!
Narmaya: Huh? Swordmaster?
Narmaya seems confused, so (Captain) introduces the crew and explains why they've come to see her.
Narmaya: I see… I understand now why you came all this way, but you have me mistaken for someone else.
Vyrn: What? But we just saw you do a crazy move, Butterfly Girl!
Narmaya: I don't understand, I was just moving… And earlier, I tried to meditate, but then I just fell asleep. I'm so inexperienced…
Narmaya: And you keep calling me a "swordmaster," but I've only ever had normal training, just like anyone else!
Vyrn: Well, falling asleep while meditating is a bit bad…
Vyrn: But you're amazing! Being able to do that just by moving is crazy!
Vyrn: You must have done some kind of fancy training, Butterfly Girl! Can you show us?
Narmaya: Erm… OK… but it really is just normal training, you know…
The girl, still confused, takes out her sword. She taps a tree and causes hundreds of leaves to float down.
The sword begins to flicker and shift, forming into other weapons. In the blink of an eye the leaves are torn to shreds.
Lyria: Huh? Wh-what just happened?
Vyrn: Her katana flickered like it was made of smoke… Hey, what did you do?
Narmaya: Huh? What did I do? I just waved my sword… nothing special.
Vyrn: That's normal for you? Just waving your sword and then that happens?
(Captain), confused at Narmaya describing all her actions as "normal," tries to practice in the same way.
But as the leaves floated down, (Captain) can't cut a single one, instead they fan away from each swing.
Vyrn: (Captain) can't do it either, huh? I guess only a famous swordmaster could pull a stunt that crazy!
(Captain) and the crew are glowing with praise for Narmaya's abilities, but she hangs her head in sadness.
Narmaya: Please… stop teasing me. I'm not amazing… I'm not famous…
Narmaya: No one has ever recognized my skills… He won't recognize them…
Narmaya: If I was famous or skilled, he would have come to see me… I know he would…
Lyria: "He"?
Vyrn: Yeah… Hey, Butterfly Girl, you know we're not teasing you, right?
Narmaya: Huh?
Vyrn: Seriously, your skills are crazy awesome! None of us could even dream of doing that thing with the leaves!
Vyrn: We think you're super cool! Right, (Captain)?
(Captain) nods, and tells Narmaya that far from being unrecognized as a swordmaster, everyone admires her skills.
Narmaya: You… you think that about me?
  1. Of course we do!
  2. It's embarrassing to admit, but…

Choose: Of course we do!
Lyria: Of course! Your skills are amazing!
Narmaya: Heehee, you really think so?

Choose: It's embarrassing to admit, but…
Vyrn: Yeah, it's hard, isn't it! She can do impossible moves without breaking a sweat!
Vyrn: That's why you're amazing, Butterfly Girl!
(Captain) nods, and conveyed their appreciation for Narmaya again.
Continue 1
Narmaya: You… Your eyes seem so honest… I don't think you could lie to me.
Narmaya: (…They're just like his eyes… Honest and pure…)
Narmaya: You remind me of someone I used to know…
The girl looks at the party with a smile on her face.
Narmaya: Thank you.
Vyrn: Hmm, when you think about it, the reason that she's so attached to (Captain), and all of us, is…
Lyria: It's because we praised her skill and encouraged her, isn't it!
Narmaya: (Captain)! Lyria! Vyrn! Are you OK? Is there anything I can do for you?
Vyrn: Erm… nope, not really… Anyway, we're heading home now, Butterfly Girl!
Narmaya: Oh! Are you going to be all right on your own? The road is dangerous, so I'd better go with you!
Narmaya: Actually, you could probably use my help on your journey! I'd be happy to come!
Lyria: Wha-? Really?
Narmaya: Of course! I can train anywhere, after all! And…
Narmaya: (…I feel like with you guys, I might be able to meet "him"…)
Lyria: And?
Narmaya: You wanted training tips from me, right? And it's nice to have someone around to help you!
Vyrn: True… You've convinced me! She can join the crew, right, (Captain)?
Narmaya: Heehee. I'm looking forward to travelling with you!
Narmaya: All right, shall we go back to the ship, (Captain)?
And so, the swordmaster Narmaya joins the crew on their journey.
The crew sometimes wonder why she fusses over them like a big sister, but they enjoy having her around as a companion.

Wavering Spirit[edit]

One day, (Captain) and Lyria find Narmaya being hard on herself, along with a very uncomfortable Vyrn. When Lyria asks what's the matter, Vyrn explains that he spoke too harshly to Narmaya. Lyria suggests that they should make nice at once, so they decide to go into town and have some fun. When Narmaya hears this, she immediately cheers up and goes with the crew.

Narmaya: Now what did I do wrong? Maybe I was standing too close? I guess I was getting a little too familiar with him…
One day, (Captain) and the crew find Narmaya scolding herself.
And standing a little farther away, they find Vyrn with a worried look on his face.
Lyria: Um, Vyrn… What happened?
Vyrn: Butterfly Girl was fussing over me, so I asked her to give me a little space…
Narmaya: I need to be careful what I say… And don't make any strange faces… But even then…
Vyrn: Now she's trying to figure out why I asked her to leave me alone.
Vyrn: It's one thing to be focused on something, but she's too focused.
Lyria: Hmm… Well, I think you just need to make up with each other!
Vyrn: Make up? But we weren't really fighting!
Lyria: That may be, but if we don't do something, she's just going to stay like this.
Lyria: She's always so nice to us, so why don't we show her how thankful we are and go do something with her?
Lyria: How about it, Vyrn? (Captain)? Does that sound good?
Vyrn: Well, I guess… How 'bout it, Butterfly Girl? Do you wanna go into town with us?
Narmaya: Sure! I'd love to!
Narmaya: (Captain) is coming too, right? Let's go!

Narmaya: Sure! I'd love to!
Narmaya: (Captain) is coming too, right? Let's go!

Wavering Spirit: Scene 3[edit]

After they leave the town, Narmaya's overbearing behavior worsens. While the crew is acting as escorts for a caravan, a band of hooligans attacks them, but Narmaya quickly puts them away. When one of the merchants sees her skill with a sword, he praises her, saying, “With your skills, you could be a match for Eahta, the eternal!” However, upon hearing this, Narmaya suddenly starts to act strangely.

A few days after training in the monster cave, Narmaya grows closer to (Captain) and the crew.
Narmaya: Hey, (Captain)! Lyria! Would you like me to make you something to eat?
Lyria: Really? That would be great!
Narmaya: Sure, leave everything to me!
One night, a few days later, Narmaya visits the crew's sleeping quarters.
Narmaya: (Captain)! Are you all right sleeping by yourself? Maybe you'd like to sleep in my bed?
Vyrn: Uh, it's all right. (Captain) isn't a kid, after all…
Narmaya: Oh, OK… Well, then I'll see you in the morning. Good night, everyone!
A few days later, Narmaya and the crew are having a meal together.
Narmaya scoops up some rice with a spoon and tries to feed it to Lyria.
Narmaya: Here you go, Lyria! Say, "Ahh!"
Lyria: Uh, "Ahh!"
Narmaya: OK, now I'll take your plates!
Vyrn: You know, she's been fussing over us a bit too much lately. Do you think she's getting worse?
Lyria: Yes, she seems to be getting worse by the day…
Vyrn: She started acting strangely ever since we heard those guys talking about the eternals at the bar.
A few days later, the crew is hired to escort a caravan of merchants.
The caravan has to pass through a territory known for thieves, so they decide to hire protection.
The merchant who hires them has heard rumors about Narmaya's skill and is delighted when the crew takes the job.
Merchant: What good fortune to have such a famous and talented swordmaster for protection! Now we have nothing to worry about!
Narmaya: Maybe you're thinking of someone else. I wouldn't exactly say I'm talented… Or even much of a swordmaster at all…
Merchant: Nonsense! Don't be so modest. It's just a relief to have you on board!
Narmaya: All right…
Even though she is clearly bothered, Narmaya joins the crew in protecting the caravan.
Then, Narmaya and (Captain) spot a band of thieves coming in from just ahead. They ready their weapons.
Narmaya: Here they come! Be on your guard!
Thief 1: Kyahaha! Hand over everything you've got!
Thief 2: Kee hee hee! Leave all your clothes, too!
Thief 3: Hurry up, already! That is, if you value your life!
Merchant: Aiieee! Skyfarers! Swordsman! P-please help us!
Narmaya: (Captain), are you ready?
(Captain) gives her a nod, then they attack the band of thieves.
Narmaya: Hyaa!
Thief 1: Gyaaa!
Thief 2: L-look at how she wields her blade! How the…
Merchant: Incredible! So then the rumors were true!
Merchant: Such skill would even be a match for the katanas of Eahta, the strongest eternal in the sky realm! You are a master swordsman!
Narmaya: !
Narmaya: I can't…
Thief 3: W-what?
Narmaya: I'll never be as good as him… He's never even noticed me…
Narmaya is devastated and stops dead in her tracks.
Thief 2: Huh? I dunno what's going on, but now's our chance!
Narmaya: Aah!
The thief sees an opening and knocks Narmaya's katana away from her.
Thief 2: Not so scary anymore, are you? Now you're going to pay for what you did to my friends!
Lyria: Narmaya! Look out!
In an instant, (Captain) jumps in and counters the blow, then picks up Narmaya's fallen katana.
Thief 2: Urgh…
Vyrn: Butterfly Girl! Are you OK?
Narmaya: I'm so sorry…
Narmaya apologizes as (Captain) hands her the katana.
Narmaya: Yes, I'm fine… I'm so sorry… I can fight, really…
Thief 3: Don't be so sure! All right, boys! Let's get ‘em!
Vyrn: There's more of them! (Captain)! Butterfly Girl! Watch out!

Wavering Spirit: Scene 4[edit]

(Captain) and the crew are worried about Narmaya so they ask her to tell them everything. Narmaya reveals that the eternal Eahta is a relative of hers, but he has never given her any recognition, and doesn't even call her by name. The crew consoles her. From that day on, Narmaya's doting behavior worsens but now the crew can at least somewhat understand the reason behind it.

Having beaten the band of thieves, the crew safely escorts the caravan of merchants to town.
The crew receives payment from the merchants and returns to the airship. Meanwhile, they are concerned about Narmaya's condition.
Vyrn: What happened back there, Butterfly Girl? Does it have something to do with how weird you've been acting lately?
Narmaya: I'm sorry. I'll try to figure it out myself…
Lyria: Narmaya, wait! Why can't you just talk to us about it? We're here to support you!
Vyrn: Yeah! We just wanna help, that's all!
Narmaya: Thank you, everyone… All right, well, where should I begin…
Narmaya forces a smile, and after thinking for a moment, begins to tell the crew everything.
Narmaya: When I was young, there was a samurai in my family who I looked up to. I wanted to learn how to use the katanas just like him.
Lyria: So that was the “he” you spoke of earlier…
Narmaya: Yes. Zanba, the greatest katana swordsman in the sky realm. He goes by another name… Eahta, the eternal.
Vyrn: What! That super strong eternal guy? You're related to him?
Narmaya: Distant relatives, yes. I was very young, but we did live together for a time.
Narmaya: When I was little, I wanted him to acknowledge me, so I practiced using the katana day and night.
Narmaya: But he has no interest in the weak. He cares only for the strong.
Narmaya: Now he himself has grown too strong. He's even forgotten his original name, Zanba.
Vyrn: Wow… How strong do you have to get to forget your own name?
Narmaya: He's incredibly powerful. I looked up to him, but I was always too weak so he never cared about me.
Narmaya: It was my dream to have him notice me, so I kept training, never giving up… But still, nothing.
Narmaya: Years passed, and before I realized it, he had left on a quest to learn how to grow even stronger.
Narmaya: No matter how much I fought with my katana, no matter how skilled I became, he never noticed me.
Narmaya: He never once gave me a pat on the head… Never once called my name…
Lyria: That's awful…
Narmaya: But I'm the awful one. I was too weak, too inexperienced.
Narmaya: I had to become stronger. Even if I had to learn magic… Even if I had to do it by myself… Every day, I trained with the katana.
Narmaya: I believed that if I could become stronger, then someday he would come back and acknowledge me.
Narmaya: And once he did, he would finally say my name. At least, that's what I believed…
Lyria: Narmaya…
Narmaya: That's why it made me so happy when you guys praised me.
Narmaya: I can't explain it, but I just felt so relieved.
Narmaya: So I wanted to thank you and do everything I could to repay you.
Narmaya: I'm sorry to be such a nuisance all the time. I'll try to calm down…
  1. "Narmaya."
  2. Pat her head.

Choose: "Narmaya."
Narmaya: Huh?
Narmaya: Oh! You're saying my name? Haha… You're so nice…
Narmaya: Thank you so much, (Captain).

Choose: Pat her head.
As Narmaya tries to leave, (Captain) reaches out and gently pats her head.
Narmaya: What? Oh…
Narmaya: Heh… You… you're saying it's going to be OK?
Narmaya: Thank you. You've made me so happy.
Continue 1
Narmaya smiles at (Captain) and the crew, and expresses her gratitude.
A few days later…
Narmaya: Oh, Vyrn! You've got something on your mouth. Let me wipe it for you!
Vyrn: Huh? Oh, thanks…
Narmaya: Hey, Lyria! Do you want me to comb your hair for you? Why don't you come over here?
Lyria: Um, thanks, Narmaya.
Narmaya's doting behavior was worsening.
Vyrn: She's getting even worse than before. It's pretty rare that I have a day where she isn't around.
Lyria: Haha! Me too, Vyrn. Me, too…
As they talk, (Captain) accidentally spills some water.
Narmaya: Are you all right? Do you want to change your clothes? Let me help you!
Vyrn: Hey, don't worry about it! (Captain) can handle it. Right, (Captain)?
Narmaya: Really? Are you sure? Why don't you let me help?
Vyrn: Hey! Enough already! Boy, you really are a bother, huh? …Ah, nuts.
Narmaya: I… I'm sorry… I'll do better…
Lyria: Oh no, Narmaya's going to go sulk again! What should we do?
A heart-broken Narmaya walks over to a corner of the room and begins to scold herself.
The crew is concerned about her, but they know that her determination and drive will never change.

My Precious Friend[edit]

Narmaya saves a young girl from being attacked by monsters. The girl invites Narmaya to a teahouse in town where she chatters happily about her "Grampy." As she's leaving, the girl reveals herself to be Fif of the Eternals, and Narmaya realizes that the "Grampy" she mentioned must be Eahta. Narmaya broods over the fact that Eahta has taken an interest in Fif when he hardly even spared her a passing glance.

Narmaya: Here we go a-shopping! Shopping for the crew!
Narmaya hums as she heads into town to stock up on some everyday items for (Captain)'s crew.
But on her way, she comes across a situation requiring her attention.
Red-Haired Girl: Geez, leave me alone! I'm gonna get ma—
Monsters: Grrr!
A young girl is about to be attacked by monsters.
Narmaya: !
Narmaya unsheathes her sword and vanishes.
Butterflies: ...
Red-Haired Girl: Butterflies?
For a moment, the girl and monsters are entranced by the butterflies fluttering through the air.
And suddenly the battle is over before it even begins.
Narmaya: Farewell, insignificant vermin.
Monster: Graaah!
In a flash, the monsters are all sliced neatly in two. The young girl opens her eyes to find Narmaya standing before her.
Red-Haired Girl: Whoa! What was that?
Narmaya: Are you all right? Were you hurt?
Red-Haired Girl: I'm fine! I don't get hurt—I'm too awesome!
Narmaya: Oh... Should I not have intervened?
Red-Haired Girl: Don't worry about it! You defeated them for me, so I didn't have to get all worn out!
Red-Haired Girl: Thanks, lady!
Narmaya: Really? I'm glad to hear it.
Red-Haired Girl: Oh, right! Hey, what was that thing you did earlier?
Red-Haired Girl: I've never seen anything like it! Was it magic? Or swordcraft? Or some kinda fancy footwork?
Narmaya: F-fancy footwork, I guess? But it's also part magic and part swordcraft.
Red-Haired Girl: Haha! Wow, you're amazing!
Narmaya: I-I'm not amazing in the slightest.
Red-Haired Girl: Sure you are! I said it, so it's true! You're amazing!
Narmaya: You think so? Hehe. Thank you.
Red-Haired Girl: Humph! You don't believe me, do you! I'm being serious here!
Narmaya: I-I'm sorry. I'm not used to compliments...
Red-Haired Girl: What? Really? But you're so amazing!
Narmaya: P-putting that aside, why are you here? This is no place for a child to be wandering alone.
Red-Haired Girl: Oh, right! I was on my way to go eat some super-ultra-mega yummy sweets!
Narmaya: Shall I accompany you then? There might be more monsters lurking around.
Red-Haired Girl: Hehe. Yay! Thanks, lady!
Narmaya takes the young girl's hand, and they make their way toward the town together.
Once Narmaya is finished with her errand—
She and the girl head into a small teahouse.
Red-Haired Girl: This place is great! They have the best desserts!
Red-Haired Girl: The cake is my favorite! It's super-ultra-mega yummy!
Narmaya: Super-ultra... what?
Red-Haired Girl: One bite and you'll understand! Here, say "Ah!"
Narmaya: A-ah... Nom nom. Mm!
Narmaya: It's melting in my mouth! But it might be a little too sweet for me.
Red-Haired Girl: That's what the tea is for! They go perfectly together!
Red-Haired Girl: Haha. Well I don't really drink it since I don't like bitter stuff, but Grampy drinks it all the time!
Red-Haired Girl: Excuse me! One tea, please!
The red-haired girl raises her hand cheerfully, and the shopkeep nods, smiling, and heads into the kitchen.
Narmaya: Grampy? Do you come here with your grandfather often?
Red-Haired Girl: Yep! Grampy buys me cake and ice cream all the time!
Narmaya: Hehe. Your grandfather must be very kind.
Red-Haired Girl: Grampy always has a grouchy look on his face, so people think he's mad.
Red-Haired Girl: But he's really nice! He's taken care of me since I was little.
Red-Haired Girl: Oh! Grampy fights with a katana, so I bet you two'd have a lot to talk about!
Narmaya: He must be very dear to you. I've had a lot of fun just hearing you talk about him.
Red-Haired Girl: Now it's your turn!
Narmaya: What? M-my turn?
Red-Haired Girl: I bragged about my family, so now you get to brag about yours!
Narmaya: I-I don't know if it's anything to brag about, but my father and mother are both very kind.
Narmaya: My father introduced me to the martial arts at his dojo, and my mother has always supported me.
Narmaya: My parents have always been there to watch over me... They're wonderful people.
Red-Haired Girl: Wow! So it's all thanks to your mom and dad that you're so strong?
Narmaya: Maybe not. It's probably mostly because of my uncle.
Red-Haired Girl: Your uncle?
Narmaya: He's a distant relative, but I learned swordsmanship because I wanted to be like him.
Red-Haired Girl: Is he even stronger than you are?
Narmaya: Far stronger.
Red-Haired Girl: Really? That's hard to believe. But I guess it makes sense that you'd be strong with someone like that as your teacher. I can see it!
Narmaya: No...
Narmaya: He didn't teach me anything.
Red-Haired Girl: Huh? What do you mean?
Narmaya: He talked to me once, but aside from that we've never spoken.
Narmaya: That's exactly why I worked so hard for so long. To make him acknowledge me.
Narmaya: But in the end he left without ever even calling me by name.
Red-Haired Girl: What? No way! What a jerk!
Narmaya: N-no... It's because I wasn't strong enough.
Narmaya: He doesn't care about anyone who isn't strong.
Red-Haired Girl: That's no excuse! He's a jerk for ignoring you!
Red-Haired Girl: I mean, you're super strong! That uncle of yours is just a big bully...
Narmaya: Hehe. You're sweet. Thank you.
Red-Haired Girl: Hey! There you go not believing me again! Why won't you trust me?
Narmaya: Huh?
Red-Haired Girl: It kinda seems like you hate yourself...
Narmaya falls silent at the young girl's words.
Finally the awkward silence is broken as the shopkeep arrives with Narmaya's tea.
Red-Haired Girl: Thank you!
Red-Haired Girl: Whoa!
The girl thanks the shopkeep and then notices the sun setting outside the window.
Red-Haired Girl: It's getting dark already? Grampy's gonna be worried! I gotta get home!
Red-Haired Girl: Hey, what's your name? What should I call you?
Narmaya: My name is Narmaya. I belong to a crew led by a person named (Captain).
Red-Haired Girl: Nice to meet you, Narmaya! My name is... Heh heh heh! Listen and be amazed!
Fif: I'm one of the Eternals! My name's Fif!
Narmaya: !
You're an Eternal?
Fif: Hehehe. Surprised? I told you—I'm awesome!
Fif: Yikes, I really gotta go! Let's hang out again sometime, Narmaya!
Fif waves, beaming, and dashes out of the shop.
Narmaya stands in a daze as she watches her go.
Narmaya: So that's Fif...
The Eternals are known far and wide as the strongest crew in all the skies.
Narmaya has heard rumors about a skyfarer named Fif belonging to this legendary crew.
And according to those rumors, Narmaya's uncle Eahta cares dearly about Fif.
Narmaya: When Fif mentioned her Grampy, she must have been talking about Zanba... Or rather, Eahta...
Narmaya: So I guess she's worth paying attention to... I see...
Narmaya: ...
Lost in thought, Narmaya doesn't even touch the tea sitting on the table in front of her.

My Precious Friend: Scene 2[edit]

(Captain) and crew notice that Narmaya has been acting strange recently. Fif comes to visit, and the crew realizes that Narmaya's odd behavior was caused by the two's teahouse talk about Eahta. They find Narmaya training on the mountain where they first met her, lamenting her own weakness. (Captain) shakes her in an attempt to snap her out of it, and Fif gets angry at her for hating herself and challenges her to battle.

The next day, the crew notices that Narmaya is acting strangely.
Lyria: Is Narmaya still asleep?
Vyrn: Usually she'd be up and fussing over us already.
Worried, (Captain) heads to Narmaya's room and reaches to open the door.
But just as the captain is about to touch the knob, the door opens to reveal Narmaya standing there.
Narmaya: Oh? (Captain)?
Lyria: Narmaya, are you okay? You're not sick or anything, are you?
Narmaya: No, I'm feeling just fine! I'm feeling so well, in fact, that I overslept a bit.
Narmaya: But more importantly, did you all eat breakfast? Or shall I whip something up?
Vyrn: Hahaha. Same ol' Butterfly Girl.
Vyrn is relieved, but (Captain) can't shake the feeling that there's something off about Narmaya's behavior.
After that day, Narmaya's condition seems to improve. A lot.
Be it monster hunting, shopping, or guarding a client, she handles every request with speed and finesse.
Narmaya: (Captain), (Captain)! Is there anything I can help with?
Vyrn: What the heck! What about that mission you just accepted?
Narmaya: The monster hunting mission? Hehe. I already took care of it!
Vyrn: Seriously? But thanks to you, we're all outta requests.
Narmaya: R-really? Then how about I do some shopping? Or I'd be happy to help with the cooking and cleaning!
Narmaya: Whatever happens, you can count on me. I'll take care of everything!
Lyria: Don't you think Narmaya's acting a bit odd?
Vyrn: Hmm. I've got a case of deja vu.
Lyria: She acted like this once before when someone mentioned Eahta of the Eternals.
Lyria: I'm worried something bad happened... (Captain), would you mind talking to her?
(Captain) nods and decides to speak with Narmaya the next day.
The following day, the crew make their way toward Narmaya's room.
But they have a sudden unexpected visitor.
Fif: I'm here!
Vyrn: Whoa! W-who's there!
Lyria: Fif? What brings you here?
Fif not in crew

Fif is a member of the Eternals.
She is an extremely powerful mage who joined the strongest crew in all the skies on Eahta's recommendation.
(Captain) crossed paths with her previously while working to awaken a revenant weapon.
Since then, Fif comes to visit the Grandcypher from time to time.
Fif: I came to hang out with Narmaya! I told her I would!
Lyria: You know Narmaya?
Fif: Yeah! She helped me out the other day. And then we talked about our families and got to know each other!
Fif: Hehehe. I bragged about Grampy a whole bunch!
Vyrn: Grampy? Are you talking about Eahta?
Fif: Yeah, of course! I only have the one Grampy!
Lyria: U-um, Fif... You mentioned that you and Narmaya talked about your families. When was that?
Fif tilts her head to one side and recounts the day she met Narmaya.
It was the same day that Narmaya started acting strangely.
Vyrn: Think that's the problem?
Fif: Huh? What? What's wrong? Did something happen?
Seeming to sense something wrong, Fif bombards the crew with questions, her voice full of worry.
(Captain) decides to explain the situation to her.
The captain tells Fif about Narmaya's relationship to Eahta, as well as about Narmaya's recent strange behavior. Fif's shoulders slump.
Fif: Is that true? So Narmaya's uncle is my Grampy?
Vyrn: Yeah...
Fif: No way! But Grampy's super nice!
Fif: He's not some bully who'd ignore Narmaya!
Lyria: But Narmaya doesn't seem like someone who would lie...
Fif: I didn't mean that! I could tell that just by talking to her! Narmaya's not a liar!
Vyrn: Huh? You're kinda contradicting yourself...
Fif: It's all a bunch of jumbo mumbo! I'm so confused!
Fif: Argh! I'll just go talk to Narmaya myself! That'll be the fastest way to sort all this out!
The captain nods and heads toward Narmaya's room with Fif.
(Captain) and the others approach Narmaya's room.
Lyria: Huh?
But it's empty.
At first (Captain) thinks Narmaya may have simply gone out on an errand.
But seeing the katana lying on top of the neatly made bed, the captain feels a sense of dread.
Narmaya has never once left her katana behind.
Lyria: I-I'm going to go look for her!
Fif: Me too! Let's go, (Captain)!
The crew searches the ship for Narmaya, but she's nowhere in sight.
Lyria: Oh no. Where could she be?
Fif: Hmm, (Captain), can you think of anywhere Narmaya might have gone?
  1. Maybe she went to my room?
  2. Oh...

Choose: Maybe she went to my room?
Vyrn: She does go there a lot. But she wasn't there when we looked earlier.
There is a moment of silence, and then (Captain) suddenly remembers something.
(Captain) tells the others that Narmaya might have gone to the place where they first met her.

Choose: Oh...
Vyrn: Oh? Do you have an idea?
(Captain) tells the others that Narmaya might have gone to the place where they first met her.
Continue 1
Vyrn: We might as well check there! Not like we have any other leads.
The crew head to the mountain where they met Narmaya.
When they reach the mountain, an unbelievable scene awaits them.
The trees in the area have been snapped in two, and there are deep gouges in the ground.
And standing amidst what looks like the aftermath of a storm is none other than Narmaya.
Fif: Hey, Narmaya!
Narmaya: Fif... Everyone...
Narmaya: Oh... I'm sorry for leaving without telling you...
Vyrn: You should be sorry! We were worried about you! Why didn't you say anything?
Narmaya: I did a lot of thinking... and I realized I can't just leave things the way they are now.
Narmaya: So I decided to come back to this mountain and start over from square one.
Hearing the weariness in Narmaya's voice, (Captain) inquires as to what she's been doing.
Narmaya: I've been practicing basic forms that don't require a sword.
Fif: Ohhh. So that's why you left your katana behind.
Vyrn: Hang on! You did all this just by practicing forms?
Fif: See! You're amazing, just like I said!
Narmaya: I'm not amazing at all... I'm a complete failure...
Fif: Narmaya?
Narmaya: I don't have the right to even hold a sword. I still lack skill... I need to become stronger. Much, much stronger...
Narmaya: Stronger and stronger! I have to get stronger!
Vyrn: H-hey, Narmaya... You don't have to obsess over it so much...
Narmaya: But I'm so weak!
Lyria: T-that's not true! You're strong! You've protected us more times than I can remember!
Vyrn: Yeah! You're not weak at all!
Narmaya: But it's not enough! Zanba still won't acknowledge me!
Narmaya: Because I'm weak! Weaker than Fif! So very, very weak!
Narmaya: I'm so weak and pathetic... that I'm actually feeling jealous...
Narmaya: That's why I have to get stronger! Much, much stronger! I have to!
Lyria: N-Narmaya...
Narmaya: But I don't know how...
Narmaya: How do I become strong? I don't know what to do anymore.
Narmaya smiles weakly.
Her smile is so fragile and empty that it looks like it could shatter at any moment.
Seeing Narmaya looking so incredibly weak and pitiful, (Captain) acts without thinking.
  1. (Captain) shakes her violently.

Choose: (Captain) shakes her violently.
Narmaya: ...!
Lyria: (Captain)! W-what are you doing? I'm so sorry, Narmaya!
Fif: Hm... I don't think you need to apologize! I get how (Captain)'s feeling!
Vyrn: And how's that?
Fif: The captain wants Narmaya to snap out of it!
Fif: (Captain) and the others love you so much, Narmaya! So why do you keep hating yourself?
Narmaya: How I feel about myself has nothing to do with this...
Fif: It does too! It has everything to do with this!
Fif: If you can't figure that out, Grampy's never gonna acknowledge you!
Fif: You'll just stay really, really, reeeally weak forever!
Narmaya: What?
Fif: There's no point in talking to you right now!
Fif: So I'll just have to show you!
Fif raises her staff and begins to channel magic.
Vyrn: H-hang on! Calm down, Fif!
Fif: I can't calm down! Everyone's gonna keep being sad if nothing changes! And I don't want that!
Narmaya: Fif...
Fif: I'm gonna fight with all I've got, so you better do the same, Narmaya!
Fif: If you don't, I can't promise you won't get hurt!
Realizing that there's no use trying to stop Fif, (Captain) tosses Narmaya her katana.
Narmaya catches the sword and draws it from its scabbard, her face full of confusion.

My Precious Friend: Scene 3[edit]

Fif and Narmaya's fierce battle comes to a halt as Narmaya falls to one knee. Fif insists that Narmaya will never become strong as long as she continues to hate herself. Narmaya comes to the realization that, even if she is unable to acknowledge herself, (Captain) and the crew acknowledge her. Having found new resolve, she battles Fif once more.

Fif: Huff... Whew...
Narmaya: Huff... Urgh...
Narmaya, bewildered, does nothing but dodge Fif's attacks at first.
Finally Narmaya begins to fight back, intending to bring an end to the relentless assault, but the battle continues for quite some time.
Fif's magic transforms the terrain around them, as trees are blown away and the ground is opened up beneath their feet.
Narmaya swings her katana as she flits about like a butterfly, avoiding each and every one of Fif's cataclysmic attacks.
With a sound like the crack of a whip, a cloud floating high above them is split in two from the force of Narmaya's blow.
Vyrn and Lyria: ...
The crew watches the intense battle, speechless. There is a pause as Narmaya falls to one knee.
Fif: Whew! Okay! Do you get it now?
Narmaya: Haha. Yes... I get it...
Narmaya: I'm weak... Completely hopeless...
Fif: Grrr!
Fif: You don't get it at all, Narmaya!
Fif: I'm strong, but you're strong too!
Fif: (Captain) and the others agree! Couldn't you guys tell by watching our fight?
Vyrn: You're both crazy strong...
Fif: Yeah! Thanks! But Narmaya's weak because she won't stop hating herself!
Fif: I love myself! I love that I'm strong and awesome!
Fif: Even if Grampy didn't acknowledge me, I'd just acknowledge myself!
Fif: And that's why I'm strong! Way stronger than Narmaya!
Narmaya: Acknowledge... myself? Love... myself?
Fif: Hey, Narmaya... Grampy's not the only one who doesn't acknowledge you. You don't either, do you?
Narmaya appears confused at Fif's words.
Narmaya: I don't... acknowledge myself?
Narmaya: I'm supposed to... acknowledge myself?
Narmaya: I can't do that. I've never even considered it before.
Fif: Then you can just start now!
Fif: And if it's too hard, I know an easier way!
Narmaya: What's that?
Fif: Hehehe...
Fif grins and points at (Captain).
Fif: (Captain)! Everyone!
Fif: Do you love Narmaya?
Narmaya: Huh?
Vyrn: T-this is kinda sudden...
Fif: Do you love her?
  1. We love Narmaya!

Choose: We love Narmaya!
Narmaya: W-what?
Fif: See? They love you! And I love you too!
Fif: If you can't love yourself on your own, you should love yourself because we all love you!
Fif: If you can't acknowledge yourself on your own, you should acknowledge yourself because we all acknowledge you!
Vyrn: There you go contradicting yourself again.
Lyria: No! I understand!
Lyria: I love you and acknowledge you, Narmaya!
Lyria: I love you, so I want you to love yourself too!
Narmaya: Lyria... (Captain)...
Narmaya: I should love myself because you all love me?
Narmaya: H-hehehe... Hahaha...
Narmaya: That doesn't make any sense. Hahaha. I don't understand.
Fif: Grrr! Do I have to slap sense into you?
Narmaya: You might have to. I just don't get what you're saying. I don't get any of it.
Narmaya: It's true that I've always hated myself. And I've always refused to acknowledge myself.
Narmaya: But it's not that easy to change. Even now, I just can't acknowledge myself.
Narmaya: But since you all acknowledge me, I may be able to learn to as well.
Narmaya: Please, Fif! Fight me one more time!
Fif: Hehehe! You sure about that? I'm strong, you know!
Narmaya: Hehehe. Yes, I know!
Narmaya: But I'm going to acknowledge my own strength! Because all of you do!
Narmaya: I'm... I'm strong too!
Fif: Hahaha! I know!

My Precious Friend: Scene 4[edit]

"You all love me, so I will love myself!" Narmaya shouts as she slices through Fif's magic, winning the battle. Narmaya thanks Fif and (Captain) for acknowledging her and restoring her confidence. Fif suggests that Narmaya should try meeting with Eahta next.

Narmaya thinks to herself as she dodges Fif's shower of fierce attacks.
Narmaya: (Why?)
Narmaya: (It was so simple. Why didn't I realize it sooner?)
Fif: If you can't love yourself on your own, you should love yourself because we all love you!
Lyria: I love you, so I want you to love yourself too!
Narmaya: (I've been too focused on Zanba all this time.)
Narmaya: (I was so busy chasing after him that I lost sight of myself.)
Narmaya: (Even if he won't acknowledge me, there are so many people who will!)
Narmaya: (And that's why...)
Narmaya: You all love me, so I will love myself!
Narmaya: I love myself! I'm strong!
Narmaya's blade slices cleanly through Fif's magic.
Fif grins and starts to cast another spell.
But she falls over, exhausted.
Fif: Whew... I'm all worn out...
Vyrn: Wow, Butterfly Girl! You beat an Eternal!
Fif: I didn't lose! I'm just taking a little break! I didn't lose, you hear me?
Fif: But... Hehehe.
Fif: You really are strong, Narmaya.
Narmaya: Hehehe. That's right. You acknowledged my strength, so it must be true.
Narmaya smiles, then turns to the crew and lowers her head.
Narmaya: I'm sorry for making you worry. I'm sorry for everything.
Narmaya: Somewhere in my heart I always doubted that you actually acknowledged me.
Narmaya: But I think I can believe you now.
Narmaya: And that's all thanks to you, Fif. (Captain).
Narmaya: Thank you.
Vyrn: Hehehe. Don't worry about it! We're just glad you finally figured it out!
Fif: Hehehe! We can put all this behind us now!
Fif: So let's go visit Grampy sometime!
Narmaya: Huh?
Fif: You still want to see him, right, Narmaya?
Narmaya: Well... That's true, but...
Fif: Then just leave it to me! I'll go get Grampy!
Fif: I wanna know why he was so mean to you!
Narmaya: B-but...
Fif: Don't worry! I'll take care of everything!
Fif hops to her feet and darts off.
Vyrn: Awesome! You finally get to see him again!
Narmaya: Y-yes. But I never imagined it would be under these circumstances.
Narmaya: I'm a bit nervous.
  1. We're here for you!
  2. It'll be fine!

Choose: We're here for you!
Narmaya: Hehe... Thank you, (Captain).

Choose: It'll be fine!
Narmaya: If (Captain) says it, it must be true.
Narmaya: Hehehe. Yeah, it'll be fine!
Continue 1
Narmaya: Okay, time for me to get my thoughts in order!
Thanks to (Captain) and the others, Narmaya has taken her first step toward loving herself for who she is.
And she has finally been given the opportunity to see Eahta again.
Narmaya awaits the day of their reunion, full of both excitement and nervousness.

It Was So Simple[edit]

A few days after Narmaya and Fif's battle, (Captain) and the others ask Narmaya about her history with Eahta. Narmaya tells them that she devoted herself to her training in order to be like Eahta—previously known as Zanba—but he never even took notice of her. Meanwhile, Fif talks to Eahta about meeting with Narmaya, and Eahta mentions something about having a proper talk and heads off somewhere.

A few days have passed since Narmaya and Fif's battle.
Fif decides to make a small detour on her way to speak with Eahta.
Fif: I feel like Narmaya's talking about a whole different Grampy from the one I know... It just doesn't add up...
Fif: But Grampy plays dumb sometimes, so even if I ask him, he might not tell me...
Fif: I know! Anre! I'll go talk to Anre!
Anre, founder of the Eternals, is an old friend of Eahta's.
Fif heads off to find Anre, believing that everything will be cleared up once she talks to him.
Meanwhile, things are back to normal on the Grandcypher.
Narmaya: (Captain)! Say "Ah!"
Narmaya: You too, Vyrn! Lyria! "Ah!"
Lyria: Munch, munch! Wow, this is delicious!
Vyrn: Yum! You sure haven't lost your touch!
Narmaya: I love you guys and wanted to see your happy faces!
Narmaya: So I practiced a lot!
Narmaya has become even more attached to the crew since her battle with Fif.
Narmaya: Hehehe. What would you like to do after you eat?
Narmaya: Take a bath? Or a nap?
Narmaya: Or maybe you'd like to train with me? Hehe. I'll do anything for my precious crew!
  1. All of the above!
  2. Then can I ask you a question?

Choose: All of the above!
Narmaya: Hehe. All of it? If you insist! I'll do my best!
Vyrn: Whoa, hang on! You can't make her do all that!
Narmaya: But I want to do everything I can for you guys...
Vyrn: In that case, I wanna ask you something about Eahta!
Vyrn: You kinda told us before, but you didn't go into all the details...
Lyria: B-but, Vyrn! You shouldn't say Eahta's name in front of Narmaya!

Choose: Then can I ask you a question?
Narmaya: A question?
(Captain) asks about the relationship between Eahta and Narmaya.
Vyrn: H-hold it! Don't say Eahta's name in front of Narmaya!
Continue 1
Narmaya: So you want to know the story between Zanba and myself?
Lyria: A-are you sure you're ready to talk about it? You don't have to if you don't want to...
Narmaya: Hehehe. It's fine. I appreciate your concern though.
Narmaya: I want to face my past.
Narmaya: Yes, I think I'm ready to talk about it!
Narmaya: But it might end up being a long story... Is that okay?
Lyria: Sure! I'll listen to the whole thing, Narmaya!
Narmaya: Hehehe. Thank you. Then here goes.
Narmaya begins to tell the crew about her past.
Narmaya: I was born into a family with a long history in the martial arts.
Narmaya: We had a huge dojo with a steady stream of visitors, many of them martial arts masters.
Narmaya: I observed them from a young age, and before I knew it, I was able to copy their movements.
Narmaya: It wasn't long before I started training with a weapon.
Narmaya: Those days I spent in training were truly enjoyable... But I didn't have a goal, a reason to train.
Narmaya: I simply did it because I could. Just as a butterfly flies without ever being taught, I trained.
Narmaya: Then one day... he appeared.
Zanba: Pardon me. I'd like to speak with the head of the family.
Narmaya: At first I thought he wanted to become a student at the dojo.
Narmaya: But I thought it was a bit strange, since he already seemed so powerful.
Narmaya: Anyway, I started to go fetch my father.
Narmaya: But he called out to me as I turned to leave.
Zanba: Ah, wait.
Zanba: There's a problem with your stance. You have trouble with strikes from the left, am I correct?
Narmaya: I was shocked. He had only seen me swing my sword once...
Narmaya: With just a glance, he was able to spot my weakness.
Zanba: Put more strength into your left thumb when you slide your feet. You'll notice a large improvement.
Narmaya: They were such detailed instructions. I tried his advice, and sure enough, I was able to overcome my weakness.
Narmaya: I immediately wanted to know more about him.
Narmaya: So I secretly listened in while he and my father were talking.
Narmaya: It was then that I discovered he was a distant relative.
Narmaya: I was thrilled to learn that I was related to such an amazing samurai.
Narmaya: Zanba stayed at our dojo for a time in order to train.
Narmaya: I was excited, thinking that I could get him to teach me more.
Narmaya: I followed him around everywhere. We ate meals together and practiced swordplay and martial arts forms together.
Narmaya: But... Zanba never said another word to me.
Narmaya: Zanba came to our dojo in order to become stronger.
Narmaya: Seeing him train was like watching a scene straight out of hell... He was as terrifying as a demon.
Narmaya: He would do anything it took to become stronger.
Narmaya: He had an intense thirst for power, far greater than my own.
Narmaya: So he didn't have a moment to spare for a weakling like me.
Narmaya: I decided to become stronger.
Narmaya: I resolved that I would become strong and get him to notice me.
Narmaya: I continued my training. I swung my blade over and over without a moment's rest.
Narmaya: Finally, I was the strongest of everyone else in the dojo.
Narmaya: Now that I had become so strong, Zanba would finally look at me.
Narmaya: Or so I thought...
Narmaya: One day he disappeared.
Narmaya: I think he had learned everything he could at the dojo.
Narmaya: He left without ever saying another word to me... or even calling my name...
Narmaya: After that, I continued to get stronger.
Narmaya: I developed footwork, forms, and sword techniques that only I could use... all for the sake of getting Zanba to acknowledge me.
Narmaya: Ten years passed, during which I did nothing but study and train... And then I met you all.
Vyrn: M-man, you've sure had a crazy life. You've basically been training the whole time.
Vyrn: But Eahta's pretty tough too. He was even more obsessed with getting strong than you were.
Lyria: Hmm...
Vyrn: What's up, Lyria?
Lyria: Um... I feel like the Eahta in Narmaya's story and the one in Fif's are two completely different people.
Narmaya: I feel the same way actually... I wonder why.
Vyrn: Well, why don't you just ask him yourself? You're gonna see him soon anyway!
Narmaya: I-I suppose you're right. Hehehe. I get nervous just thinking about it.
Narmaya finishes telling the crew her story.
Meanwhile, Anre finishes telling Fif about Eahta's past.
Fif is shocked to hear what Eahta was like back when he was still known as Zanba.
Fif: Grampy used to be that scary?
Fif: So the Grampy that Narmaya knows is from back when he was still scary!
Fif: Hmm...
Fif: Now it makes sense why he was so mean to Narmaya!
Fif: Not!
Fif shouts and sprints away.
Fif finds Eahta in the middle of meditating and launches herself at him.
Fif: Bad Grampy! Bad! I'm really, really, reeeally mad!
Eahta: What is it this time? Is this some new game of yours?
Fif: I'm not playing around! I heard all about your past from Anre!
Eahta: Humph.
Fif: I know you used to be a super scary demon! I get it!
Fif: But I don't care if you're a demon or a snake or whatever—being a bully is bad!
Fif: Narmaya's been suffering all this time because of you!
Eahta: ...?
Fif: Narmaya! Nar-ma-ya!
Eahta: I don't know that name.
Fif: Huh?
Fif: The girl from the dojo! Um... She has purple hair and smells really nice! And she's super sweet!
Eahta: ...?
Fif: Um... Uh... Oh, I know! She uses a katana like you do! And she can use magic to turn into butterflies!
Eahta: The dojo... a katana... and purple hair?
Eahta: ...
Eahta: Hm. I guess there was a purple-haired child at that dojo I once visited...
Fif: Whaaat? You mean you'd forgotten?
Eahta: I just didn't have any reason to think about it.
Fif: You totally forgot! You make me so mad sometimes, Grampy! Sooo mad!
Fif: Every meeting is important! It's fate! So you shouldn't just forget about them!
Fif: Geez! You always play dumb! But I'm glad you remembered!
Fif: You should meet with Narmaya! She reeeally wants to see you!
Eahta: Hm... Meet with that child?
Eahta: Fif.
Fif: What? Oh, are you worried about seeing her? Don't worry! I'll go with—
Eahta: How skilled is she?
Fif: She's suuuper strong! She even beat m—
I mean... she's just as strong as I am!
Eahta: Oho, so she managed to surpass you? I'm intrigued.
Eahta: All right. I'll meet with her.
Fif: Make sure you apologize for bullying her! This time you better play nice!
Eahta: That doesn't make sense.
Fif: Huh?
Eahta: If we're going to talk, we should do so properly.
Eahta stands and heads off.
Fif: Huh? What? H-he went to see Narmaya, right?
Fif: I-I have a reeeally bad feeling about this...

It Was So Simple: Scene 2[edit]

Narmaya receives a letter from Eahta requesting a duel, and she heads out alone to accept his challenge, her expression grim. Worried about Narmaya and Eahta, Fif arrives and suggests that they go after the two. (Captain) and the crew head with Fif to the location mentioned in the letter.

The next day, Lyria goes to find Narmaya.
Lyria: Narmaya, you got a letter! Siero gave it to me to give to you!
Narmaya: A letter for me?
Vyrn: Hey! Think it's from Eahta?
Narmaya: W-what? D-do you think so?
Narmaya: Oh my... I'm all nervous now.
Narmaya: Will you read it with me, (Captain)?
(Captain) nods, opening the envelope and taking out the letter.
They anxiously begin to read, but as they make their way through the contents of letter, their expressions gradually harden.
Narmaya: What...
  1. ...
  2. He wants to have a duel...

Choose: ...
Vyrn: W-what's wrong? It's not from Eahta?
Narmaya: No, it's definitely from him...
Vyrn: Then why're you so freaked out? Don't tell me he doesn't want to meet you...
Narmaya: No, he does want to meet.
Narmaya: So we can have a duel.

Choose: He wants to have a duel...
Lyria: Huh? A-a duel?
Lyria: What is he thinking?
Narmaya: I don't know... The letter just says that he wants to duel me...
Continue 1
Narmaya: ...
Narmaya: Does he want us to communicate with our swords? I guess that means he still refuses to speak to me.
Narmaya: No, that's not it. He's saying that words are unnecessary.
Vyrn: What're you gonna do, Narmaya?
Narmaya: If that's what he wants, I'll accept his challenge.
Narmaya: I finally get the chance to see him again. I'm not just going to give up now.
Lyria: What! But... But this is all wrong!
Lyria: This isn't the reunion you wanted, right, Narmaya?
Narmaya: ...
Narmaya: I'll be back.
(Captain) grasps Narmaya's hands.
Narmaya: (Captain)... Are you worried about me? I'd like for you to come with me, but...
Narmaya: Zanba wants a one-on-one fight, so that's what I'll give him.
Narmaya: I'll be just fine. Don't worry about me.
Narmaya smiles and departs from the Grandcypher.
Vyrn: H-hey, what are we gonna do?
As the crew is worrying over Narmaya, Fif hurries up to them.
Fif: Huff... Huff... Gramps! Hey! Gramps hasn't been here, has he?
Fif: I can't find him anywhere... I thought maybe he came to see Narmaya...
Lyria: Eahta? No, he hasn't been here...
Vyrn: He sent a letter to Narmaya saying he wanted to duel her though...
Fif: Oh no... So that's why I had a bad feeling! What the heck is Grampy thinking?
Fif: Can't he just meet with her like a normal person and go get ice cream together or something?
Vyrn: Butterfly Girl was mumbling something about talking with swords and not needing words...
Fif: Swords don't talk!
Vyrn: Y-yeah, I know that...
Fif: Their relationship was already a mess, but at this rate it's just gonna get worse! They're never gonna be happy!
Fif: I don't want that to happen!
Lyria: I don't want that either, Fif!
Lyria: Narmaya looked so sad!
Fif: (Captain)! Let's go after her! We gotta stop them! Do you know where she was going?
(Captain) nods and heads toward the location written in the letter along with Fif and the crew.

It Was So Simple: Scene 3[edit]

(Captain) and Fif interrupt Narmaya and Eahta's silent battle. After being lectured by Fif, Narmaya confesses that all she ever wanted was for Zanba to call her name, and Eahta reveals that he only challenged Narmaya to a duel because he thought it was what she wanted. Having finally told Eahta how she felt, Narmaya resolves to surpass him and challenges him to battle once more.

…………
…………
Eahta and Narmaya face each other and draw their katanas in unison.
An instant later they have both vanished, and the sound of steel on steel echoes across the plains.
As they swing their swords, not a single word is spoken.
Narmaya: ...!
Narmaya parries a heavy blow that otherwise would have cut her in half.
The slashes continue for several hours without a single moment of respite, and Narmaya's expression gradually darkens.
Narmaya: (I finally get to see you again, but...)
Eahta: Hyaaah!
Narmaya: (You don't understand... anything!)
Narmaya swings her katana as an indescribable emotion wells up from the depths of her heart, urging her on.
But not a single one of her blows lands.
Narmaya: (I can't get my feelings or even my blade to reach you...)
Eahta is unable to hear the bitter cries that overflow from Narmaya's heart.
Biting her lip, Narmaya swings her sword recklessly.
Eahta: So this is the end.
Eahta raises his katana to counterattack.
Fif's Voice: Stop!
Fif and (Captain) block the attacks with their weapons.
Narmaya: Fif? (Captain)?
Fif: Grampy! Narmaya! Why are you fighting?
Fif: Do you really want to fight Grampy, Narmaya? I know you don't!
Narmaya: W-well...
Fif: You too, Grampy! Why'd you challenge her to a duel all of a sudden?
Fif: All you had to do was talk to her! Why couldn't you just do that?
Eahta: ...
Fif: Talking with swords? What the heck's that supposed to mean!
Fif: A fight's a fight! It's not talking at all!
Fif: So did you two actually learn anything from that fight just now? If you did, I'm all ears!
Narmaya: ...!
Fif: You have to talk to each other. With words.
Fif: What do you really want from Grampy, Narmaya? If you don't tell him, he's never gonna know!
Narmaya: I... I...
Narmaya: I've always wanted to be like you, Zanba!
Narmaya: I've been chasing after you ever since I was little!
Narmaya: I wanted you to acknowledge me...
Eahta: ...
Narmaya: That's why I decided to become stronger. I wanted to be strong so you'd notice me.
Narmaya: But now I realize that's not what I wanted at all.
Narmaya: I just... wanted you to call for me; to say my name. I wanted to spend time with you.
Fif: Narmaya...
Eahta: I see.
Eahta: So you wanted to exchange words, not blows.
Eahta: You seek out words on your quest to better yourself. Very well.
Eahta: There is always more than one path.
Narmaya: What?
Fif: Come on, Grampy! Nobody knows what you're talking about!
Eahta: I was told that the child from the dojo had defeated the mighty Fif and wanted to meet with me.
Eahta: So I took the request seriously. But it seems I was mistaken.
Vyrn: H-hang on...
Vyrn: Did you think Narmaya wanted to fight you?
Eahta: Of course.
Narmaya: ...
Fif: Grampy... So that's what this was all about...
Fif: Argh! You make me so mad sometimes, Grampy!
Fif runs over to Eahta and starts kicking him in the shin.
Watching this, Narmaya begins to laugh.
Narmaya: H-hehehe...
Vyrn: W-what's up? What's so funny all of a sudden?
Narmaya: I was just thinking... Zanba's made out of flesh and blood, just like me.
Narmaya: I think I've always put you up on a pedestal.
Narmaya: I should have just faced you as an equal and told you exactly what I was thinking.
Narmaya: That's all it would have taken.
Eahta: What happened to my past self known as "Zanba" is still a mystery. I no longer remember any details.
Narmaya: But, Zanba... No, Eahta.
Narmaya: You'll listen to me now, won't you?
Narmaya: So I'll just come out and say it.
Narmaya: I was so busy chasing after you all this time that I lost my way.
Narmaya: At some point I lost confidence and started to hate myself.
Narmaya: But (Captain) and the others taught me how important it is to love myself.
Eahta: ...
Narmaya: I've decided I want to surpass you.
Narmaya: I want to surpass you... and learn to love myself!
Narmaya: So fight me once more!
Narmaya: Eahta of the Eternals!
Eahta: Heh heh... Hahaha!
Eahta: I like your resolve, child!
Eahta: I remember now. You were once a weakling who relied on others to guide you on your way.
Eahta: But now you have chosen the path you wish to follow on your own. You have become strong!
Eahta: Very well, child—no, you are no longer a child! Surpass me, and discover what lies at the end of your chosen path!
Eahta: Come, let us fight!
Narmaya: With pleasure!

It Was So Simple: Scene 4[edit]

Narmaya and Eahta's battle continues until the sun goes down. The next day, Narmaya visits the teahouse with Fif and Eahta. After enjoying some pleasant conversation, Fif and Eahta stand to leave, and Narmaya smiles brightly as Eahta calls her by name. Finally able to move forward, Narmaya soars toward even greater heights, together with her companions who love her so.

Narmaya and Eahta hold nothing back as they cross blades, their strikes even more intense than before.
(Captain) and the others are entranced by their fierce, yet beautiful, battle.
Vyrn: Hahaha... So in the end, they're still fighting.
Fif: Sigh... I don't know what to do with those two.
Lyria: But... They look like they're having fun.
Fif: Yeah, you're right... Grampy looks like he does when he's playing with me.
Vyrn: And Butterfly Girl looks like she does when she's fussing over us.
Seeing Narmaya's face, (Captain) smiles.
The fight continues until the sun sets.
A few days have passed since the battle between Narmaya and Eahta.
Narmaya arrives at the teahouse she went to previously with Fif.
She heads to a table where Fif and Eahta are seated.
Fif: Geez, you guys are too much to handle!
Fif: What would've happened if I hadn't been there? You'd better be grateful!
Narmaya: I-I'm sorry about that. Thank you, Fif.
Fif: As long as you get it! Anyway, here! Have some ice cream cake!
Narmaya: Cake? Ice cream? W-which one is it?
Eahta: That's quite a strange confectionary.
Fif: It's my own personal invention! Here, Narmaya! Say "Ah!"
Narmaya: A-ah...
Narmaya: Mm, it really is delicious... But maybe a bit too sweet.
Fif: Really? Are you saying you don't like sweet stuff?
Eahta: That's what the tea is for.
Narmaya: ...!
Narmaya: Hehehe...
Eahta: What?
Narmaya: Well... That's what Fif said last time we were here.
The shopkeep brings their tea, and Narmaya takes a sip.
Narmaya: Hehehe. Delicious. What a delightful taste.
Eahta: Indeed. This child, however, doesn't seem to appreciate it.
Fif: I don't need it! All I need are sweets! If I get thirsty, I'll just have some soda or something!
Narmaya: Hehehe...
Eahta: ...
A flicker of a smile appears on Eahta's face as he slowly rises to his feet.
Narmaya: You're leaving?
Eahta: If you ever feel like having tea again, you know where to find me, Narmaya.
Narmaya: ...!
Narmaya: Okay! Next time let's bring (Captain) and the others! We'll all come here together!
Narmaya: And let's talk some more then too! I'll tell you all about my beloved crew!
Eahta: Very well.
Fif: I can't wait! I'll tell you all about my mom and dad and all the Eternals!
Fif: Hehe! See you later, Narmaya!
Narmaya: Goodbye, Eahta! Fif!
Narmaya watches them leave with a smile on her face, and then takes one last sip of her tea.
Narmaya: It really is delicious.
Narmaya has broken free of the chains preventing her from moving forward.
With nothing holding her back, she soars toward even greater heights—
Together with her companions who love her so.
