Showers of Growth
While out hunting with the crew, Tweyen misses her mark. Seeing the Eternal dejected and sulking over her poor performance, Silva suggests that they all go to a nearby festival as a nice change of pace. On her way there, Tweyen buys a yukata and shows it off to the crew.
Vyrn: You're not gettin' away!
Monster: Grrrgh!
Vyrn: There's no runnin' now! Can ya see it from over there, Tweyen?
Tweyen: Hehe... Leave the rest to me. It doesn't matter how thick the forest is, I'll hit my target. I can even see you speaking, Vyrn.
Tweyen: This rain is a bit annoying though.
Having received a request to take care of a particularly pesky monster, (Captain) and the crew find themselves on a small island near Auguste.
However, an unexpected downpour causes the party some trouble.
Tweyen: Too late to turn back now. But it's fine. I've hunted in worse weather.
Tweyen: It's over for you!
Suddenly...
Vyrn: Whoa!
Tweyen: ...!
Silva: Finally back, huh?
Hearing that (Captain) and the others have returned from their outing, Silva heads over to Tweyen's quarters.
Silva: How about taking a quick breather? I was thinking about brewing some tea.
Tweyen's Voice: Oh... Sorry, but now isn't the best time...
Silva: Busy, huh? Gotcha. I'll stop by later then.
Silva: (Is it just me, or does she sound anxious? Did something happen while she was out?)
Silva: (Maybe I can get something out of (Captain).)
Silva: Makes sense. I can see how Tweyen would find that frustrating.
According to (Captain), Vyrn and the monster had been scared by a sudden bolt of lightning, causing them both to move unexpectedly.
This resulted in a miscalculation on Tweyen's part, and she missed her mark, almost hitting Vyrn instead.
Vyrn: Is she still bothered by what happened? I mean, we took down the monster just fine, and it's not like I'm hurt or anything.
Lyria: Maybe we should go check in on her later...
Silva: In that case, I'll join you.
Silva: Come to think of it, Tweyen was complaining about how bad her luck's been lately.
Silva nods as she listens to the party's story, after which she begins recounting Tweyen's misfortunes.
Silva: One time, she bit her tongue while eating and ended up with a nasty infection. And this other time, she went to a store she had planned on eventually shopping at—only to find out that it had permanently closed...
Silva: I wish there were something I could do to help her relax.
Vyrn: Something to help her relax, huh? I wonder if there's anything fun to do around here...
Silva: Why don't we all go to a festival together? I hear there's one being held at the town nearby. Word has it that there'll be a huge fireworks show at night.
Upon Silva's suggestion, (Captain) is reminded of a particular incident.
Previously, when the Eternals had all gathered together for a sweltering getaway...
Tweyen: I kind of want to get my own yukata now...
Silva: You're right. Tweyen did mention wanting a yukata of her own...
Vyrn: Then let's shop for one before the festival! There's gotta be a place where we can rent an outfit for the evening!
As Vyrn and the gang excitedly share their festival plans with each other, a lone Eternal sits in her room, muttering to herself.
Tweyen: I had already known that weather could easily change. I should've accounted for the possibility of a lightning strike...
Tweyen reflects on the happenings of the crew's previous encounter.
Tweyen: If I had waited just a second longer, I would've landed a clean shot straight through its heart... I've tarnished the name of every Eternal.
With no one around to hear her, the huntress thinks back calmly and continues to speak under her breath.
Tweyen: And to make matters worse, I almost harmed Vyrn...
Tweyen: It was foolish of me to claim that inclement weather wouldn't affect my aim. Pride comes before a fall, or so they say...
Tweyen: I should be doing more than analyzing the situation and adjusting my actions accordingly. I need to be aware of every possible outcome before making a decision.
Tweyen: It's good that nobody was hurt, but I mustn't forget how my haughtiness nearly cost my friend's life.
Tweyen: Okay then... Now that I've thought things through, I should get back to training. There's always room for improvement.
Tweyen: It's my responsibility to right the wrongs I make on the job. This will not happen a second time!
Tweyen: With that said, what to do next...
Lifting herself out of her rut, Tweyen clenches her fists with a renewed look of determination.
Tweyen: That's enough moping about on my own. If I'm going to meet up with the others, it has to be with a smile!
Tweyen: I won't feel better until I apologize one last time, and I need to thank Silva for stopping by!
Tweyen: I'm sorry again for what happened earlier. I feel much better now.
Tweyen: I'll take down our next target with a single swift shot, just you wait and see!
Vyrn: Hehe, don't sweat it! We believe in ya!
Lyria: I'm glad you got over it so quickly! I feel like it takes forever for me to feel better when I'm down...
Tweyen: Haha, well... For what it's worth, I am technically an adult.
Silva silently watches as the crew welcomes the seemingly spirited Tweyen back. However...
Silva: (I can tell there's still something bothering her. That smile of hers almost looks forced...)
Silva: (But what is it...)
Silva: Here, Tweyen. Have some tea while it's warm.
Noticing Tweyen's odd behavior, Silva gestures her friend over to a nearby chair.
Silva: You've got some mud on your face. Here you go. Use this.
Tweyen: Ah!
Vyrn: Huh? What's goin' on?
Tweyen turns to find Silva offering her a handkerchief and lets out an involuntary cry, garnering the attention of everyone around her.
Tweyen: Ugh! I thought I got everything out of my hair and off my clothes, but I totally forgot to look in a mirror!
Tweyen: And here I was, thinking I'd be fine once I cheered myself up... I must look so lame...
Vyrn: Haha, ya don't have to play it cool in front of us! We're all friends here!
Silva: Tweyen, we were talking about heading to town just a moment ago. Care to join us?
Lyria: Yeah! Come have fun with us at the festival! It'd be a nice change of pace!
Tweyen: A festival?
Tweyen: (Is it really okay for me to have fun after a mistake like that?)
Tweyen: (But it looks like everyone wants to cheer me up—or at least, their expressions say as much...)
Tweyen: (They're far too kind to me... I don't have it in me to let them down.)
Tweyen: (Actually, it's me who's the problem. They're the ones going out of their way to help me...)
Tweyen: Very well. I'd love to join you all.
Tweyen: (I need to learn how to accept their kindness...)
Lyria: There it is! The yukata shop! It looks like they have a rental service too!
The crew heads into town with Tweyen in tow. However, before going to the festival venue, they decide to stop by a certain store.
Silva: Hm, it says here that they'll help you put on your yukata even if you bring your own... That sounds pretty convenient—right, Tweyen?
Tweyen: Huh?
Silva: I heard from (Captain) that you wanted your own yukata.
Lyria: It's only fitting that we all wear yukatas to the festival, right?
Silva: We actually already brought ours. All we needed was to find a place that would help us put them on.
Tweyen: You guys... Yeah, I'd love to wear a yukata! It's been so long!
Stepping inside the store, Tweyen feasts her eyes on the rows upon rows of brightly colored yukatas.
Silva: What about this one? It's a bit on the plain side, but something more sophisticated might suit you better...
Lyria: This one's really cute! And this looks like it'd fit you perfectly!
Tweyen: Ahaha... Thanks, everybody.
The crewmates chat as they shop, and Tweyen finally decides on a yukata as per the recommendation of Silva.
As Tweyen gets dressed, the others all don their own yukata and head outside to wait. After what feels like an eternity...
Tweyen: Well... How do I look?
Everyone: Wow!
Wowzah!
Whoa!
With a bashful smile, Tweyen exits the store and walks in front of the crew before continuing.
Tweyen: I may have ended up buying it...
Vyrn: What? Ya actually bought it? Must've liked it a lot more than I thought!
Lyria: I think it looks great on you! I'm glad you found one you liked!
Tweyen: Hehehe...
Much like a ray of sunshine peeking through the clouds, Tweyen's cheeks turn a rosy red.
As if on cue, the rain stops, the skies clear, and the warm sun shines down upon the crew—almost like the weather, too, was trying to cheer Tweyen up.
From Bud to Bloom
As Tweyen enjoys the festival, she goes to buy some shaved ice—only to mistakenly get a baked potato instead. Afterward, she tries her hand at a target-shooting stall in hopes of winning a fluffy charm, but it turns out to be a miniature urkin. Soon thereafter, she spots a lost boy from among the crowd.
Tweyen: Hehehe!
Lyria: You seem pretty pleased, Tweyen! Your yukata suits you perfectly!
Tweyen: Thank you.
Vyrn: It's great seein' ya like that! Looks like you feel all better now!
With the events of the rainy monster hunt behind them, (Captain) and the others look to have some fun.
In order to cheer Tweyen up, the crewmates all don their yukatas and head to the local summer festival for a nice change of scenery.
Vyrn: Wow, this place is packed! So many stalls and people!
Lyria: Sniff... I smell something delicious coming from basically every direction...
Tweyen: Heh, try not to get lost trying to track down all the different scents, okay?
Lyria: Okay!
Silva: Let's start by taking a quick look around. We can grab a bite to eat as we go.
Tweyen: The air's still hot and stuffy from all the rain. Something cold would be nice.
Glancing around, one particular stand catches Tweyen's eye.
Tweyen: Ah, they're selling shaved ice. Maybe I'll go with that.
Silva: Shaved ice sounds good. I think I'll get some too. How about you, Lyria?
Lyria: I was thinking about trying the briny-bites at that stand over there. They look really good! What do you think, (Captain)?
- Briny-bites for me!
- Fireworks! Fireworks!
Choose: Briny-bites for me!Silva: So briny-bites for (Captain) and Lyria. Got it.
Tweyen: We'll meet up with you all after we buy our shaved ice.
Choose: Fireworks! Fireworks!Vyrn: Isn't it a bit too early for that? Ya must really be lookin' forward to the show!
Lyria: We'll look for a place to watch in a bit!
Continue 1The crew then splits, with one group lining up for briny-bites and the other for shaved ice.
Tweyen: What flavor should I get? You can go ahead and order first, Silva.
Silva: Okay, in that case...
Silva: Excuse me.
Tweyen: (Hm, what am I in the mood for? Oh, the stand next to us is selling chocolate-glazed soft serve!)
Tweyen: That's it! I know what I want! Excuse me. I'll take one of those, please!
Tweyen stares at the menu before her and, inspired by the neighboring stall's offerings, places her order.
Tweyen: (Oh? Is this what I think it is?)
Right as Tweyen receives her food, Silva walks over to her side with some strawberry-flavored icy deliciousness in hand.
Silva: Hey, Tweyen... Didn't you say you were going to get shaved ice?
Tweyen: Right... Shaved ice... It's so warm...
The two face each other, locking eyes, but before Silva can speak up, Lyria and the others come rushing over.
Vyrn: Heya! Sorry for the wait! Did you guys get your stuff?
Lyria: Wow! That's a whole lot of cream you've got there, Tweyen! Wait, is that... steam?
Tweyen: Nom...
Still in a daze, Tweyen takes a bite of her food. In an instant, her eyes light up, and a smile starts to spread across her face.
Tweyen: This baked potato tastes amazing!
Vyrn: Ya got a baked potato?
Silva: That cream... Ah, it must be whipped buttercream.
Tweyen: Yeah. At first, I thought it was shaved ice with a topping of ice cream and chocolate.
Tweyen: But it turned out to be a baked potato with whipped buttercream and some soy sauce.
Tweyen: I had intended on getting shaved ice, but... Haha, well, this is just as delicious! Does anyone want a bite?
Lyria: Oooh! I'll try some!
Silva: I'd like a taste as well. Here, Tweyen. Have a bite of my shaved ice. You too, Lyria.
Lyria: ...!
Tweyen: Hehe, I guess making a happy mistake while out having fun isn't so bad.
Silva: That's right. It isn't bad at all. Besides, this baked potato... Munch...
Silva: It's so good. Hahaha, nothing complements sweet better than a little bit of salt. It's nice that we have both.
Stomachs now filled, the crew decides to stop by the festival's target-shooting stall.
Lyria: Urgh, this is harder than it looks... I couldn't even hit the big ones.
Vyrn: It's pretty hard, right? I'm sure it'd be a piece of cake for Tweyen or Silva though.
Tweyen: Of course. Let me try.
Tweyen gives the prize lineup a quick glance and grins as she decides on a target.
Tweyen: I'm going for that small fluffy black charm...
Tweyen: Doesn't matter how tiny the target—I'll hit it, just you watch.
Vyrn: Well... At least ya won.
Tweyen: This isn't fluffy at all... I just thought it was because of its silhouette...
Tweyen: How could I mistake the prize's material like that? I'm a fool for not paying closer attention...
The miniature charm dangles before Tweyen's eyes, as if to mock her. It appears to be an urkin, Auguste's beloved mascot.
Lyria: But it really is tiny! I could barely even tell that it was an urkin!
Vyrn: Ya sure are out of it today, huh?
Tweyen: So it seems... I promised myself that this wouldn't happen again, but I must've gotten caught up in the moment.
Vyrn: Eh, what's the big deal? It's just a game.
Lyria: Besides, the urkin's really famous! It'll be a nice souvenir!
Vyrn: Not that we're in Auguste...
Silva: Vyrn's right. It isn't a huge deal. No need to get all worked up over a game. Just think of it as a fun little memory of today.
Tweyen: Haha, I suppose so. But still, this isn't how I want things to end. Surely there's something I can do to make up for my mistake...
Vyrn: Then why don't you pick where we go next, Tweyen?
Tweyen: Thanks, don't mind if I do. Let's see...
Tweyen: Oh?
Silva: What's the matter?
Tweyen: That boy... He looks lost.
From Bud to Bloom: Scene 2
The boy explains to the crew that he had got into a fight with his father. (Captain) then heads to the festival's pickup spot for missing children to look for the boy's father. In the meanwhile, Tweyen and Silva question the boy for further details.
Vyrn: Lost? We gotta go help him!
Vyrn: Where is he? I can't see with all the people around.
Tweyen: This way! Follow me!
The crew weave through the crowds with Tweyen in lead, and they soon spot a young boy glancing around at his surroundings.
Tweyen: Hey, are you by yourself? Or did you come with your parents?
Boy: Who are you?
Lyria: Ah, we're not bad guys! Just a group of skyfarers here to enjoy the festival!
Boy: Skyfarers? I remember reading a book about skyfarers! They're so cool!
His eyes sparkling, the young boy grows increasingly excited as he speaks to the skyfarers. However, his expression darkens when the crew continues to interrogate him.
Vyrn: Ya lost or something?
Boy: N-no! I'm not!
Boy: I-I'm not... lost... Sniffle...
Silva: Hm, sounds like there's more to the story. Let's find a quieter place to talk.
Silva: So... Who did you come to the festival with?
Boy: My daddy...
Vyrn: And where is he now? Did ya lose your dad in the crowd?
Boy: I... I didn't lose him...
Lyria: Well, we can help you look for him if you want.
Vyrn: Yeah! Leave it to us! We'll find him in a jiffy!
Boy: Y-you don't have to look for him!
Vyrn: Huh? Hey! Wait up!
The boy tries to run away, but his attempt at an escape quickly ends in failure.
Tweyen: Hold up! It's too dangerous for you to be out there by yourself. Stay with us, okay?
Lyria: Um... Is there a reason why you don't wanna see your dad?
Silva: Did something bad happen? Were you scared?
Boy: Daddy was being a meanie...
Vyrn: So ya just had a little fight, huh? I'm glad it wasn't some kinda huge accident!
Silva: Regardless, we can't just leave him here.
Tweyen: With a festival this large, there's probably a place to pick up lost children...
Vyrn: Maybe his dad is there now!
Lyria: He's probably worried sick about you! We gotta go find him and tell him that you're okay! Let's go, (Captain)!
Tweyen: Wait, I—
- You two handle things here!
Choose: You two handle things here!(Captain) decides to follow Vyrn and Lyria, leaving the young boy in the care of the two markswomen.
Tweyen: Aaand they're gone...
Silva: Well then... Why don't you tell us what exactly is going on?
Tweyen: Indeed. How was your dad being a meanie? It's okay. It'll be our little secret.
Boy: I didn't do anything wrong!
Hearing Tweyen and Silva's soothing voices, the boy relaxes, and he finally starts explaining his situation to the two.
From Bud to Bloom: Scene 3
Asking the runaway boy if he truly is okay with being on his own, Tweyen offers him a word of advice. As she does so, (Captain) returns with the boy's father, and the two make amends. The crew praises Tweyen, who appears to feel much better now, before setting off to watch the fireworks show.
Boy: It's not my fault! All I wanted was one of the toys from the target-shooting stall!
Tweyen: A toy from the shooting stall? You mean one of the prizes?
The boy nods. Apparently, he had been unable to win a prize after spending some time shooting targets with his father.
The two eventually gave up, choosing instead to go elsewhere. The boy, however, could not get the idea of winning a prize out of his mind and made his way back.
But to his surprise...
Silva: By the time you got back, someone had already won the prize you wanted, huh?
Silva: I see... That must've been frustrating.
Boy: I really, reeeally wanted it! But Daddy kept stopping at all these different stands!
Tweyen: So you got upset because your dad was wasting time making detours...
Tweyen: But still, he's the one who brought you to the festival, right? You're too young to be wandering about all alone.
Boy: I'm okay! My mommy stayed at home 'cause her tummy's big. She says I'm gonna be a big brother soon!
Boy: That means I'm big enough to come to a festival by myself!
Tweyen: Hm, I don't know... You say you're okay now, but are you sure you won't regret it later?
Boy: I'm sure!
Tweyen: If you ask me, I think being by yourself is really sad and scary.
Tweyen: I mean, it makes your heart ache, and you start feeling lonely.
Silva: ...
Tweyen: Well? Don't you feel lonely?
Boy: N-no... I don't...
Tweyen: I'm sure your dad feels lonely too after realizing that you've gone missing.
Boy: But... my toy...
Tweyen: I get it. It's disappointing that you couldn't get the prize you wanted.
Tweyen: But sometimes, it's better to just make peace with your situation and think about what you can do better next time.
Boy: Make peace?
Tweyen: Exactly. Make peace, and then think.
Tweyen: Is that stall the only place you can get what you want? Maybe you can find the same prize at one of the other stands.
Tweyen: And if not, they might sell it at a store in town.
Boy: ...!
Tweyen: If you truly want it, you have to let your desire be known. There could be other ways of getting what you want, but the first step is communicating that want to your dad.
Boy: ...
Tweyen: You need to make peace with what you've already done and think about what you can do moving forward. Only then should you make a decision.
Tweyen: And once you do, all that's left is to act!
Tweyen: It might take some time for you to come up with an answer of your own though.
Silva: And even if it does, as long as you take what we said to heart, I'm sure it'll be of help to you in the future.
Boy: ...
Tweyen: You feel frustrated and sad—and that's okay. But you came to this festival to have fun with your dad, right?
Tweyen: He'd feel sad too if he saw you angry or upset.
Tweyen: But above all else, he's probably very worried knowing you're out here by yourself.
Tweyen: So if you're going to cry at all, it's best you cry by your dad's side.
Boy: By Daddy?
Tweyen: He'd be happier seeing you upset or crying by his side than alone somewhere.
Tweyen: It's hard being by yourself, don't you think?
Silva: ...
Boy: I don't like being lonely...
Tweyen: Of course you don't—so let's make a promise.
Tweyen: No more going off on your own, okay?
Boy: Okay!
Vyrn: Yeah, Tweyen's right!
Tweyen and Silva console the boy as he nods, when suddenly, they hear a voice call out from behind them.
Boy: Ah! Oh...
Father: Phew... Thank goodness you're safe!
The boy, surprised to see his father standing next to (Captain), quickly hides behind Tweyen, as if embarrassed.
Tweyen: Haha, how about you say sorry to your dad?
Boy: Mmgrh... Okay! I'm sorry, Daddy!
The crew watches as the boy apologizes, dashing into the arms of his father. With the two finally reunited, they collectively breathe a sigh of relief.
Vyrn: So anyway, what's the prize you wanted to win so badly?
Vyrn, having already heard what happened from the father, turns his attention to the boy and asks a question.
Boy: The black spiky thing!
Father: He means the urkin mascot.
All Three: Oh!
Tweyen: Is this... what you're talking about?
Tweyen takes out the urkin charm she had won at the shooting stall and shows it to the boy. In an instant, his eyes widen.
Boy: Uh-huh, that's the one! Its spikes are so cool!
Tweyen: ...
Without so much as a word, Tweyen glances inquisitively at (Captain).
Seeing the captain nod approvingly, she smiles, turns back to the boy, and presents him with a gift.
Lyria: They both looked really happy back there.
Silva: Yeah, I'm glad things didn't have to end on a sad note.
Tweyen: I wonder if I spoke too harshly to him...
Silva: Not at all. I think he learned a valuable lesson today.
- Good thing you were here, Tweyen!
Choose: Good thing you were here, Tweyen!Vyrn: Yep! It's nice havin' a grown-up to back ya up!
Lyria: No one else would've been able to spot a lost child in such a crowded place! That's Tweyen for you!
Tweyen: P-please... Enough with the compliments!
Vyrn: Whoa, it's not every day that ya see the Tweyen gettin' all flustered!
Lyria: I'm glad we got to see all these different sides of you today!
Tweyen: A-anyway! I think the fireworks show is about to start!
Vyrn: Hey, I still need to buy a candy apple to munch on during the show!
Tweyen: Then let's hurry up and go get one!
Vyrn and Tweyen scurry off in search of a candy apple stand.
Tweyen: Hey, you guys coming or what?
Tweyen turns around, calling the rest of the crew over. Not a trace of anxiety can be found on her face. Whatever grievances had been plaguing her are no longer.
Just as she breaks into a smile, the night sky above her flashes brightly, painted with a magical array of patterns and colors.
