Lindwurm (Impossible), a Battle System 2.0 raid that is denoted by the "V2" icon and a blue background

Battle System 2.0 is an updated battle system introduced during the 6th Anniversary of Granblue Fantasy. Battles using Battle System 2.0 differ from others in that they make use of new features such as Omens, Guarding, and Fated Chains.

Quests and raids that use it are indicated by a "V2" icon.

Fated Chains

Fated Chain bar filled to 100%

Fated Chains (FCs) are activated manually by tapping the FC bar, or automatically via Full Auto, once it has reached 100%. The FC activated will correspond to the MC's element.

Upon activation, FCs will deal 1,500,000 static elemental damage to all foes and inflict a debuff that boosts the foes' damage taken by 20%One of the following debuffs based on the Fated Chain's element:

Boosts damage and damage cap by 20%. Stacks multiplicatively with Seraphic modifiers.
.[1] The debuff ends after one turn or 30 hits, whichever comes first, so try to make the most out of this window of opportunity. Fated Chains can also be required to cancel certain Omens.

The FC bar fills by 10% when allies use charge attacks, with a bonus for every charge attack used after the first each turn.

# of Charge Attacks Bonus FC bar Total FC bar filled
1 0% 10%
2 3% 23%
3 6% 36%
4+ 10% 50% for 4, 60% for 5, 70% for 6, etc

Some characters and classes (most notably Yamato) have special interactions with Fated Chains, increasing the benefits or boosting the bar outside of the normal means.

Guarding

Guard status and buttons

Underneath each main party member's portrait is a Guard button, which can be toggled ON or OFF for that turn (default OFF). Guarding provides the ally 1000% boost to DEF90% reduced damage taken and they will be unable to perform normal attacks or charge attacks during the attack phase. Some effects, such as auto-activated skills, will still occur when Guarding.

Tapping and holding any ally's button will instead toggle Guard status for all allies at once, of those currently able to Guard.

However, an ally cannot Guard if they meet any of these conditions:

  • They are unable to attack at all
  • They are under a status effect that prevents Guarding (such as ParalyzedCan't attack
or SleepCan't attack and takes big DMG (Ends upon taking DMG)
    Takes 25% more damage
    )

Even if they are prevented from using normal attacks, they can still Guard if they can use charge attacks, and vice versa.

Auto Guarding

When Auto Guard is toggled on, any allies targeted by a foe's Omen will automatically Guard while either semi auto or full auto are active. (They will begin Guarding when the attack round begins.)

Targeted allies will not Guard in the following situations:

  • They are unable to Guard
  • The foe's special attack indicated by the Omen is unaffected by DEF

The Auto Guard toggle status for each quest is set and saved individually. The full auto icon will have a shield icon when Auto Guard is toggled on.

Overdrive and Break

The mode bar is removed in V2. Overdrive and Break modes instead appear as the status effects OverdriveIn overdrive (Can't be removed)
Local status effect
and BreakIn break (Charge diamonds won't fill / Can't be removed)
Local status effect
respectively. They typically last a certain number of turns. Assassin buffs or other effects that require a specific mode can still work in V2 if the foe has the equivalent V2 status effect.

Effects that are supposed to affect a foe's mode bar, such as Mode Bar CurbedOverdrive is curbed
and Mode Bar CutCut to foe's mode bar
, have no effect in V2 battles.

Omens and Special Attacks

Position changes of main allies or changes to hostility updates the targeting indicators

Foes have two types of special attacks, indicated by Omens that appear on the turn they will be used.

  •  Stance Attacks Stance Attack If an incoming special attack is due to the foe's charge diamonds being full, the charge diamonds will flash white. If it is instead due to an HP trigger or some other special condition, the charge diamonds will not flash, even if they are full. are colored yellow.
  •  Incanted Attacks Incanted Attack If an incoming special attack is due to the foe's charge diamonds being full, the charge diamonds will flash white. If it is instead due to an HP trigger or some other special condition, the charge diamonds will not flash, even if they are full. are colored purple.

There is currently no known difference between Stance and Incanted Attacks. However, there are some character support skills that have an interaction based on the type of attack used (e.g. Ms. Miranda's  Academy Instructor1-turn cut to skill cooldowns when a foe uses a special attack.
(If the foe uses an  Incanted Attack, 3-turn cut instead.)
).

Charge Diamonds

If an incoming special attack is due to the foe's charge diamonds being full, the charge diamonds will be colored red and flash white. If it is instead due to an HP trigger or some other special condition, the charge diamonds will be colored yellow and will not flash, even if they are full.

Targeting

A special attack's target is indicated by red borders around your allies. If all allies are targeted, a single border will surround all four. If a special attack randomly hits multiple targets, the allies that will be targeted will have their own border. When skills that affect targeting (such as SubstituteReceives foe attack in place of an ally
(Excludes all-foe all-ally attacks)
or Hostility UpMore likely to be attacked
) are used, the indicator will update to reflect that.

When Do Omens Appear?

Omens will appear only at end of turn, on turns where the prerequisites for a special attack have been met. Multiple Omens cannot be triggered in a single turn.

Omens will not appear after the following actions:

  • When items are used, such as potions
  • When summons are called
  • When a foe's charge diamonds are filled, even to max, through the effect of a skill or similar
  • When an Omen with a special trigger, such as an HP trigger, is canceled while the foe is at max charge diamonds

Canceling Special Attacks

Omen description is viewable under the foe's status effects display

Certain special attacks can be stopped before activating, even after its Omen is displayed, by meeting its special requirement. If the requirement involves dealing damage a certain number of times or dealing a certain amount of damage, the exact number remaining will be displayed above the boss HP bar.

Other common conditions include inflicting specific status effects, removing buffs (even if the boss doesn't have a buff to remove), using a specified type of skill a number of times, or activating a Fated Chain.

Upon cancelling an Omen, a debuff is usually inflicted on the foe regardless of its debuff resistance. The debuff differs based on the boss and is usually, but not always, either ATK DownATK is lowered
Duration: 1.5~2 turns2 turns if cancelled before the attack phase, 1.5 turns if cancelled during the attack phase.Local status effect
or DEF DownDEF is lowered
Duration: 1.5~2 turns2 turns if cancelled before the attack phase, 1.5 turns if cancelled during the attack phase.Local status effect
. If the Omen would consume the charge diamonds, cancelling will also empty them.

Using DelayReduce a foe's filled charge diamonds by 1
or GravitySpecial attack max charge turn is extended
on a full charge diamond Omen will interrupt the displayed Omen, but will not count as a cancelled Omen, unless either effect is a cancel condition. As such, they also won't empty the charge bar beyond their usual effect, allowing the boss to display another Omen as early as next turn. If the Omen fails to activate due to CharmedAttacks are slightly limited
, ParalysisCan't attack
etc, it will also not count as cancelled, but the charge diamonds will be emptied much like in normal battles.

In raid battles, Omens and cancel conditions are handled locally, or on a party-wide basis. Other parties' actions will not count towards the requirements directly, though buffs and debuffs applied from other parties can make it easier for an individual party to meet them.

Normally, the Omen special attack activates at the end of the current turn if not cancelled, but there are exceptions. Some Omens have ongoing effects for a certain number of turns (or until cancelled) and do not result in a special attack. Instead, meeting the requirements to cancel the Omen results in the ongoing effects being removed. In this case, conditions do not have to be met in a single turn. As long as such an Omen remains active, no other Omens can activate.

Status Effects That Prevent Special Attack Activation

In Battle System 2.0, Terror status effects such as Twilight TerrorCharge diamonds don't fill up / Can't use special attacks
Local status effect
and Stared StiffCan't use special attack / Chance that attacks are inhibited / Takes big DMG
Takes 10% more damage
Local status effect
that disable special attacks become status effects that prevent Omens from being displayed.

However, any special attacks with an Omen currently displayed will activate even if Terror is applied in the same turn.
