Story
Sandalphon is a powerful primal beast known as the supreme primarch, leader of the angels. He inherited this position from Lucifer, to whom he is eternally devoted. There was a time, however, when Sandalphon resented the skies and sought to bring calamity thundering down on all its creatures. He will bear this crime for the rest of his existence, even as he watches over the Sky Realm and the perpetually evolving lives that inhabit it.

Character Quotes
| Opponent | SideDialogue is based on which side the character is facing. In a mirror match the following order goes from P2 to P1. | Dialogue |
|---|---|---|
| Mirror match | P2 | A very long time ago, someone told me we all have two look-alikes. But I never really thought that would be true of me... until now. |
| P1 | What? How did you acquire those wings? Tell me who you are, and why you stole my face. | |
| Gran | P2 | Sandalphon: Singularity... Would you care to join me in the arena? Show me the strength of these skies—and all its people are willing to fight for. Gran: It's funny... We just met, but it's like I know him. These must be Djeeta's memories mixing with mine... Lyria: Sandalphon's waiting! Vyrn: Focus, buddy! |
| P1 | Vyrn: Can't believe Grumplephon just swooped up in here lookin' to duke it out... What's his deal? Lyria: Sandalphon? Gran: There's a lot on his mind. And some questions, you've gotta wrestle with—literally. Sandalphon: I've been wondering... if these skies still need my protection. Thought if we sparred, it could help clear my mind. | |
| Djeeta | P2 | Sandalphon: We were reunited by causality—I'd stake my wings on it. Together, we'll bring healing to these skies. Djeeta: Hear that, Lyria? Everything's gonna be just fine—I promise. Vyrn: You got this! Lyria: Just be careful! Djeeta: No sweat! |
| P1 | Vyrn: Sandalphon at 12 o'clock! Lyria: Like we practiced! Djeeta: Glad you made it... Sandy. I said it! Sandalphon: Not you too. I'll find out where you learned that nickname. But first you owe me a match—steel yourself! | |
| Katalina | P2 | Sandalphon: I appreciate the offer but... My kitchen's got enough help. Katalina: My offer still stands—once our duel is settled, I'd be honored to help prepare a feast. |
| P1 | Katalina: Sandalphon. Lyria's really warmed up to you as of late. We've traveled a long way from the despair of our first meeting... Sandalphon: I only changed because I had help. With the crew here, even the weight of the skies isn't too heavy to bear. | |
| Charlotta | P2 | Sandalphon: Forever pure, forever righteous... Let's just hope that you have the steel to forge that creed of yours into action. Charlotta: Please, rest assured! On my honor as a sworn knight of Lumiel, I'll not rest till these skies are rid of chaos—and gentle concord reigns again! |
| P1 | Charlotta: Wh-What illustrious wings you bear! The pure majesty... 'Tis only fitting for the august title of supreme primarch! Such glory must be viewed from the highest point! Sandalphon: Thank you. I, too, have the deepest respect for your swordsmanship. | |
| Lancelot | P2 | Sandalphon: In place of the primarch Gabriel, I will conduct the trial of water. Come! Lancelot: Frost has never failed me but... can it freeze the wings of an angel? There's only one way to find out! |
| P1 | Lancelot: Supreme Primarch, I humbly ask for a chance to prove my worth— Through combat. Sandalphon: Very well. Bare your fangs, and show me a dragon's resolve! | |
| Percival | P2 | Sandalphon: In the name of Primarch Michael, show me what future is reflected in your flames. En garde! Percival: Look and behold a knight, a scholar... And a king! |
| P1 | Percival: Through your trial... I shall show my worth. Sandalphon: Sounds good. Show the skies how bright your fire burns. | |
| Ladiva | P2 | Sandalphon: I'm here to learn about the correct mindset for running a successful café... So why did you come equipped for a duel? Ladiva: It's 'cause you're a warrior at heart, sweetie. I figured you'd respond better to a demonstration of love than idle chit-chat. Now... Who wants a hug? |
| P1 | Ladiva: Once that new café of yours is up and running... Raduga will have to step it up! I do love competition. Sandalphon: With this duel, I thought I'd learn from you—but it's clear that spirit and resilience aren't so easily mastered. | |
| Metera | P2 | Sandalphon: A magic bow and flight... But how do you compare to the wings of an angel? Metera: That's one way to invite a girl for some mile-high fun. You've got an impressive set of wings, but can you last? |
| P1 | Metera: So I'm not upset that you've mellowed out or anything, but have to say... the dark and brooding vibe really did it for some of us. Sandalphon: Why bring that up now? Are we going to train—or not? | |
| Lowain | P2 | Sandalphon: They say you call primals—using nothing but the power of your imagination. I need to know if the rumors are true. Tomoi: Uh... Elsam: I mean... Lowain: Kinda? Uh, bros... Where do we even begin here? Elsam: Yiggy's real, man! Tomoi: Shut up, dude! You tryna get us deleted? Lowain: No shot, boys—we bust out the SSBA ASAP. Just don't let him catch us peeping the command list, okay? The Bros: For Yiggy! |
| P1 | Tomoi: Order up. Elsam: We're on it! Lowain: Roast: dark. Drip: slow. Coffee: served! Kick back, relax, and take in the brofam brew! Sandalphon: I'm a harsh critic when it comes to coffee. I know the three of you are excellent chefs, but don't expect to impress me. | |
| Ferry | P2 | Sandalphon: Even without a heartbeat... you're still here, alive. What is sustaining you? Ferry: Sorry, I'm not sure myself, actually... Although I'm glad that you think of us as living. It means a lot to the pack. |
| P1 | Ferry: Were you hiding in those pretty feathers, Fugee? Should've kept a closer eye on him. My apologies, Sandalphon. Sandalphon: These wings represent not only me, but all angels... I'm honored he likes them. | |
| Zeta | P2 | Sandalphon: The Seal Weapon, Spear of Arvess... What could such power bring, other than more war and bloodshed? Zeta: You got your hackles up already, huh? Come closer, and see what you're really up against! 'Kay. Let's do this! |
| P1 | Zeta: Fly as fast and as far as you want. You're still not gonna escape me and Arvess. Go on—try it! Sandalphon: I'd be glad to. Having seen your speed and supernatural reflexes firsthand, I know better than to get careless. | |
| Vaseraga | P2 | Sandalphon: I know the fire that's in your eyes, raging in silence. I can only imagine the grief you've experienced. Vaseraga: Indeed. But I realize now that through loss, I was able to gain something else—just as you have, I'm sure. |
| P1 | Vaseraga: I was surprised by your request. Why the urge to spar with me, of all people? Sandalphon: You carry the weight of many lives—I thought I could help shoulder that burden. Before you answer, just let me face you... and win your trust. | |
| Narmaya | P2 | Sandalphon: She seems... at peace. But there are no openings. This match has already begun. Narmaya: Let us begin... Be you of heaven or of earth, my blade cuts all. |
| P1 | Narmaya: Testing the blade that betrayed my captain? It'll be my pleasure. Sandalphon: I won't ask for your forgiveness. Just... when we cross blades I hope you can realize—I've changed since then. | |
| Soriz | P2 | Sandalphon: You've lived your life by the fist—and you're still going strong even now. No matter how much time passes, skydwellers still surprise me. Soriz: You flatter me. You know... I still haven't tried these dandy dukes against a primarch. Now this is gonna be a fight to remember! |
| P1 | Soriz: C'mon! You got the muscle mass of a dandelion! You sure you can handle the ol' haymakers swinging at you full force? Sandalphon: That's... certainly bold. Just so we're clear, you're sure you want to face my blade completely unarmed? | |
| Zooey | P2 | Sandalphon: Made in another's image, but given a role to play from birth. The old me would've resented you, but he's long gone now. Zooey: Now, you have a role—to defend these skies against all present and future threats. Prove that you've laid aside vengeance... and are worthy of our trust. Come! |
| P1 | Zooey: When it seems as though everything is lost, just remember that there is no burden you must bear alone. We'll protect the skies—together. Sandalphon: Yeah, I'll be counting on you. This crew made me a better person—it's why I'm still here today. | |
| Cagliostro | P2 | Sandalphon: I sensed someone's been watching me recently... Should've known. Let me guess—you need one of my feathers for alchemic research. Cagliostro: Cag thought she was being sooo sneaky, but Sleuth Sandy strikes again! Ah, screw it! I'll just use force to get what I want! |
| P1 | Cagliostro: What pwetty feathers you have... All the better for Cag to experiment on! Sandalphon: I'd rather... you not. These wings are a primarch's power—they're not things to be dissected under a lens. | |
| Yuel | P2 | Sandalphon: After a millennium, your blood debt's been settled. The royal clans are safe from Ninetails, so why do you keep seeking power? Yuel: Hm... These skies ain't safe, and a girl's gotta protect her own. I mean, ain't no fun dancing alone, is it? |
| P1 | Yuel: Quick lil' thing. Mmph. Bet my last kebab I know what spooked it. Yer wings! You might as well be wearing a rainbow for camouflage! Sandalphon: I can't change their color. So, why don't we forget about the slime, and start our match instead? | |
| Anre | P2 | Sandalphon: The Eternals... Made up of the deadliest steel found in our skies. I know your mission is to prevent bloodshed and maintain peace. And yet... Anre: "Yet any form of vigilante justice is a slippery slope"... A valid concern, indeed. Then, why not put our creed to the test? Are the Eternals true keepers of the peace—or tyrants in disguise? |
| P1 | Anre: My spear's greatest strength is its defense. I'd like to see if this old fortress can repel rays of light—cast by the supreme primarch. Sandalphon: The legendary spear of the Eternals—Anre. Let's see what the skies' finest has to offer when pushed to his limits. | |
| Eustace | P2 | Sandalphon: I don't blame you for distrusting me. But I'll do whatever it takes to prove that I've changed. Eustace: Words are a good start. Now show me. |
| P1 | Eustace: If you don't want Flamek torching your wings, back out now. Sandalphon: Think it's that easy to shoot an angel? Go on then—let's see you empty your clip. | |
| Seox | P2 | Sandalphon: The air's gone cold, still, and piercing. I've never met anyone who lives so clearly in death's shadow. Come! Seox: Can what was meant for death and suffering one day bring peace? If the skies' keeper can't answer that question, who can? I await your judgement! |
| P1 | Seox: It seems the burden of remorse yet weighs down your sword. You must figure out a way to let go of the past, or lose the future too. Sandalphon: I thought I did. But... guess the past still haunts me. At least matches like this remind me of how everything's changed. | |
| Vira | P2 | Sandalphon: Trust between primals and skydwellers... Show me the power behind the forces that unite us. Vira: It would be uncouth to refuse a request from so exalted a figure. En garde! |
| P1 | Vira: Luminiera, Ares, and the angels... If not for the kindness of primals, skydwellers may have gone extinct. That being said... Sandalphon: Yes, I know—we're strongest together. You and Luminiera are the perfect example. | |
| Anila | P2 | Sandalphon: You're a member of the Twelve Divine Generals, right? I hear each one has their own unique fighting style. Let's see. Anila: This crew's a flock of unconventional minds—with the captains as our shepherds. That includes you too! |
| P1 | Anila: There you are, Sandalphon! I counted so many sheep waiting for you I dozed off. Apologies! Sandalphon: I was late by just a couple of minutes, and you fell asleep? Forgive me, but I didn't think one of the Divine Generals would be so carefree. | |
| Siegfried | P2 | Sandalphon: A war between dragon and man rages inside of you. I can only pray that one day in the future, you find peace again. Siegfried: I'm honored to be in your prayers. It makes the skies that much bluer, knowing that we're in another's thoughts—that we needn't face fate alone. |
| P1 | Siegfried: You managed to find your way back from the hellscape of resentment—and regained our trust. Now, it's your turn to guide, and lead these skies to a brighter future. Sandalphon: Whatever light there is left in me... I'll use it to make sure no one gets lost again. | |
| Grimnir | P2 | Sandalphon: You've grown, Grimnir. "The Mad Cyclone" is an impressive title. Care to show me how you got it? Grimnir: Hail, Supreme Primarch! 'Tis an honor to cross blades with thee. These skies shall resound with howls... As thy red wing... And my tempest— Devour all! |
| P1 | Grimnir: By the beating of thy wings, a cursed power awakes and bursts free of its ancient seals. Storms shall rage, and the firmament shall quake... Take heed—thy hour of doom is nigh! Sandalphon: You're asking to fight with no holds barred, right? Feels like there was an easier way to get that across but... That wouldn't be the Grimnir I know. | |
| Nier | P2 | Sandalphon: An Arcarum beast... But something tells me that the true threat is the contractor. Nier: What? But you tricked Djeeta... You were the one who threw her off an island. Right? |
| P1 | Nier: Stay away from Death—you're scaring her. I'm warning you. Sandalphon: I don't know much about the World or his followers. But if you're hostile towards angels, you can't be trusted. | |
| Beelzebub | P2 | Sandalphon: Backstabber. This time, I'll finish you off for good. Beelzebub: I see you've grown a spine. Let's hope you've managed to grow some fangs as well, or I'll be sorely disappointed. |
| P1 | Beelzebub: Weren't your motley little wings once tied to tragedy? Prance all you like beneath virtue's light... The shadow of your sins will never be far behind you. Sandalphon: Say what you like. Everything changes with time... and people learn from their mistakes. | |
| Belial | P2 | Sandalphon: Belial. While you can still use that scheming tongue... Any last words? Belial: How about a feather from the supreme primarch? Ouch. Relax, Sandy. I just wanted to give it a light caress as a sign of my respect. You tease. |
| P1 | Belial: What's got you so tense? Don't you like other birds of the same feather? I think we angels should get better acquainted. Sandalphon: Shut up... and face your reckoning. | |
| Avatar Belial | P2 | Sandalphon: Belial. While you can still use that scheming tongue... Any last words? Avatar Belial: Those wings—they're blinding. You know what I'd enjoy? Ripping them off! |
| P1 | Avatar Belial: What's this? The white wings not enough, huh? Sandalphon: Shut up... and face your reckoning. | |
| Lucilius | P2 | Sandalphon: For too long, you've worn his face and stained his legacy with blood. Return to the nightmares that made you, Lucilius! Lucilius: In what cesspit would I let you mince about as supreme primarch? You were never more than a spare. |
| P1 | Lucilius: Dress a simpleton in feathers... And he will always fly too close to the sun. Sandalphon: Go ahead and insult me all you want. This ends right here, right now! | |
| 2B | P2 | Sandalphon: One anomaly could disrupt the skies' balance. Where did you come from? Pod 042: Alert! Massive energy signature detected. 2B: Are those really... wings? I won't let my guard down. |
| P1 | Pod 042: Activating short range attack gear. Processing... 2B: Code Name: Oathbound Angel. It seems like words won't work. Best to skip negotiations and rely on force. Sandalphon: Wha—wait. You could at least try. But... if you want war, so be it! | |
| Vane | P2 | Sandalphon: Heroes... They're symbols of a brighter future. I can see why children look up to someone like you. Vane: And I look up to you, O Supreme Primarch of Justice! I was so pumped for this match, I couldn't even sleep last night. Whoo! Time to shine! |
| P1 | Vane: Okay, let's hit the ground running! 'Cause you know it's superhero training time! Heh-heh! Sandalphon: Superhero? You've got the wrong idea about me. I'm not anything special. I can play along, but no promises. | |
| Beatrix | P2 | Sandalphon: The complete nonsense you ordered. I couldn't bring myself to make it. With that much sugar, it would be a miracle if you could even taste the coffee. Beatrix: Whaaat? Come on, man... You know that's the only way to make a Beatrix-style brew—and if we're gonna train, it's vital that I get my daily dose of sugar! |
| P1 | Beatrix: I've finally found it! A ten-out-of-ten dessert for a cup of joe—and I've bought enough for the whole crew too! Sandalphon: After training, what better way to recover than dessert? Thank you for your generosity. | |
| Versusia | P2 | Sandalphon: As supreme primarch, I have a duty to protect these skies. If that means defying a god, then so be it! Versusia: With your wings, you have gained power rivaling that of Lucilius. I cannot overlook your existence, for it would invite further strife. |
| P1 | Versusia: I know of the tragedy that you wrought upon these skies. If you're an angel, then this plane of existence has no need for demons. Lay down your role—and accept your destruction. Sandalphon: No. He loved these skies. And I'll be right here protecting them—until the end of time. | |
| Vikala | P2 | Sandalphon: Last time I checked, the supreme primarch guarded the skies. Care to point out where dancing is in my list of duties, exactly? Vikala: He looks really upset... Why did I think this guest performance would be a good idea? But... I want to see him dance! It's bright and happy everyday! Here in... Utopia! Your adoring fans await! |
| P1 | Vikala: Watch this! And showtime! And our next guest performer will be... you! Let's see you boogie all that bitterness away! Sandalphon: I don't think I'm capable of expressing myself through dance but... I can at least try. | |
| Galleon | P2 | Sandalphon: For eons, the Six Dragons have watched over the Sky Realm. Will they forgive someone who sought its ruin? Galleon: Revelation. (All of us have roots mired in dark pasts... I wish to see how you have blossomed in the present.) |
| P1 | Galleon: Query. (Supreme primarch... Why risk death for the Sky Realm—when life was bestowed unto you by Astral hands?) Sandalphon: Because he—no. Because I love these skies more than words can say. What other reason could I need? | |
| Wilnas | P2 | Sandalphon: How to improve "Wil's Mess"... Let's begin by assessing your firepower. Wilnas: Wonderful, wonderful! Where better to start than with the root of all cookery? I await... Your guidance! |
| P1 | Wilnas: Though you possess the supreme primarch's wings, still you fight to soar even higher. Bravo— Bravo! Sandalphon: You're among the first wardens of these skies—I can't afford to lose face. | |
| Meg | P2 | Sandalphon: Flying sharks, shark people... Now there's a shark that can shapeshift? The denizens of the deep never fail to confound me. Mari: Come on, Me— Meg: Oh, well... I admit, we don't know an awful lot about sharks yet. But believe me, Ursula is as dependable as they come. Mari: (What's with their ride or die vibe?! I can be dependable too, you know! Ugh, if only I could shapeshift into a shark! It should've been meeee!) Meg: And so are you. Mari: Oh... Meg: Let's do this! Mari: I love you! |
| P1 | Meg: You can relax, Sandalphon! Look into Ursula's eyes—this isn't the face of a killer! See? Ursula: ShaShaSharrrk! Mari: Meg would never tell a lie, so you can take that to the bank! Sandalphon: You both seem to be telling the truth... But I need to be absolutely sure I haven't gone mad! | |
| Ilsa | P2 | Sandalphon: You've taken many under your wing, as befits your position. If there is some secret for bolstering camaraderie, I would like to hear it. Ilsa: Oh? Is the Supreme Primarch having trouble in the ranks? Let's see... The carrot and stick approach has always worked for me. But to be clear... The bigger the stick, the better! |
| P1 | Ilsa: What's the best way to motivate maggots? Call 'em "pieces of shit." Short, simple, and straight to the point! Now let's hear you say it! Sandalphon: I just wanted to learn how to be a better guide and mentor. Perhaps action will speak louder than words. | |
| Id | P2 | Sandalphon: I know all too well the resolve it takes to shoulder the past. I could help you bear the weight, if you'll let me. Id: Sandalphon... Thank you. |
| P1 | Id: My atonement... yet continues. Sandalphon: Your sword ruined lives. Now let's see... if it can protect them. |

| Mirror match | Even if you were a clone, I'd accept you unconditionally. I know what it's like to wither away in someone else's shadow. |
| Gran | I want to thank you for helping me clear my mind. Will you allow me a handshake? |
| Djeeta | Yes, I know. You want your usual during our coffee break, right? How long do you think we've known each other? |
| Katalina | I made some coffee for you and Lyria with the finest beans I could find. Thought it would be nice to put aside our steel and talk for once. |
| Charlotta | It's important to believe in justice and the greater good. But when you accept one stance to the exclusion of all others, you buy morale at the cost of insight. It's not what you believe that's important, so much as why. |
| Lancelot | You've proven your skill, courage, and commitment. I believe that whatever storm comes your way, your fangs and your friends will carry you through. |
| Percival | I thought your fire would be a despotic force that only took, but instead it gave—light, heat, life itself. Maybe you will make a great king. |
| Ladiva | Thank you for teaching me about the allure of duels. There are principles here I could incorporate into my café. |
| Metera | So this is a magic bow... Never seen arrows that can track their target. The greater your gifts, the more important it is that you use them for a good cause. |
| Lowain | Your blend's got interesting notes, like it was crafted to pair well with certain foods. It's an approach to coffee I'd never considered before. |
| Ferry | There's a lot of mystery surrounding ghosts, but that's what makes them so fascinating. Maybe I could ask Raziel to look into the workings of life after death. |
| Zeta | It seems Arvess unlocks its potential by synchronizing with you. I trust you'll use that power for the good of the skies. |
| Vaseraga | That's enough for today. Why don't we continue this conversation over coffee? You take yours with milk, right? |
| Narmaya | Would you mind teaching me about meditation? I've grown curious about zen philosophy—and how you purify the spirit by emptying the mind. |
| Soriz | I've heard rumors of a powerful old woman that lives on the captains' home island. Are there skydwellers that evolve as they age? I'm starting to doubt I'll ever understand your world. |
| Zooey | We may have started out as stand-ins, but you and I both have our own missions now. And if we don't see them through, no one will. |
| Cagliostro | I'm not trying to obstruct alchemic research. It's just—call it instinct if you will, but something's telling me if you get these feathers, there will be consequences. |
| Yuel | So you draw strength from dance the same way we draw strength from our wings. Skydwellers adapt and evolve in so many ways. |
| Anre | I see now that the Eternals aren't just a militant force. I hope that your creed, your commitment, and your compassion will guide the skies to a better future. |
| Eustace | Do you understand now? I will never raise my sword again, unless it's to protect this crew and these skies. If you'll just hear me out, I have a special brew we could talk over. |
| Seox | I can tell you've also had a rough past. If you're willing to share, I'm willing to listen. There's something cathartic about reliving bitter memories over unsweetened coffee. |
| Vira | The connection you share with Luminiera represents one way primal beasts and skydwellers can coexist. I'd like to hear more about your history together, if you don't mind. |
| Anila | Time for a break. You know, I bet a light roast would go great with the richness of bean jelly. Why don't I brew you a cup? |
| Siegfried | As your hero's reward, may peace find you under blue skies. |
| Grimnir | Your winds remind me of music. There's emotion to them. They're lively, they're threatening, they're kind. Not even Raphael's are this expressive. |
| Nier | The girl contracted to Death... Nier, right? I hope you find happiness. |
| Beelzebub | There is no future where you reign over an empire of strength. Now take the humiliation I handed you, and get out of my sight. |
| Belial | You were given infinite time, and all you did was sow chaos. Well now, your time is up. |
| Avatar Belial | |
| Lucilius | Accept your defeat, Lucilius. It's over. |
| 2B | There's no point in continuing this fight. Calm down, and we can talk things out. Preferably over coffee—you can drink coffee, right? |
| Vane | I'm no hero, but... if someone as honorable as you believes in me, I must be doing something right. Thank you. |
| Beatrix | I'm not saying there's a right or wrong way to drink coffee. But if you had it your way, there'd be nothing in the cup but sugar. That's not a beverage; it's a crime. |
| Versusia | There's still a chance that she'll wake up. When that day comes, I have a lot of apologizing to do. |
| Vikala | It's a relief the audience enjoyed themselves. I... actually wouldn't mind coming back, if it helps out the skies. Just don't expect any miracles. |
| Galleon | Your power rivals the angels'. If we stood united, nothing could undermine these skies again. All I'd need is your trust. |
| Wilnas | Angels and dragons... We might play different roles, but we love the skies with one heart. May our alliance burn eternal. |
| Meg | Strangely, confronting your bizarre shark has assured me that the skies aren't always as chaotic as they may seem. Thank you, Margaret. And you too, Marilyn. |
| Ilsa | It takes a certain kind of charisma to pull off that ferocity... If I were to speak like you, chances are, I'd be resented for it. |
| Id | Loyal allies are a source of comfort, greater than words can convey. I'd like to support you—just as our captain supports us. |

Trivia
- Sandalphon has different animations and dialogue when facing characters marked as villains (Beelzebub, Belial, Lucilius, and Versusia).
- He no longer summons coffee for two on a normal match end, and ends the round on a freezeframe of his serious frowning face.[1]
- The full animation for "Paradise Lost" now includes a brief scene of a glowing ethereal Lucifer embracing him from behind, and his wings are pure white instead of derived from the tetra-elements.[2]
- His P2 side intro has him collecting a feather instead of a mote of light.
- Sandalphon's battle theme, Primarch of Promises (VS Sandalphon), is an instrumental arrangement of his first character song Ain Soph Aur
