Nice to Meet You, I'm Lyria!
(Captain) dreams of Lyria crying from loneliness far in the future. After the captain enters a hot spring called the "Bath of Longevity" and wonders if it worked, Lyria realizes that this is about Lilit's revelation that she would live forever. However, (Captain) and Vyrn's determination to stay healthy as long as possible cheers up Lyria. As she writes about the day's events in her journal, (Captain) gets the idea of starting an exchange journal with Lyria.
Lyria: Ughh... Sniff...
The sound of Lyria crying makes (Captain) start frantically looking for her.
The captain finally locates her in the darkness and reaches out, but finds it impossible to touch or speak to her.
Lyria: I'm lonely...
Lyria: I'm so lonely...
Lyria: I want to see everyone again... Why did they all leave me behind?
Lyria: Why am I the only one who can't go to Estalucia?
Lyria: Sob...
Lyria: (Captain)...
(Captain) desperately calls out to Lyria, but remains unheard.
Lyria's Voice: ...
up...
Lyria's Voice: Wake up, (Captain)!
Lyria: I'm sorry for waking you out of such a deep sleep, (Captain).
Lyria: But it looked like you dozed off while working...
Lyria: And I thought you might catch a cold if you slept at your desk like that.
(Captain) thanks Lyria and tries to start writing again, earning a worried look from her.
Lyria: We've taken up a lot of jobs from Siero and have been so busy lately...
Lyria: It only makes sense that you'd get tired, (Captain). Why don't you take the rest of today off?
Lyria: Forcing yourself to work when you have no energy can just lead to mistakes, after all...
Nodding at Lyria's suggestion, (Captain) stops writing and loudly yawns.
Lyria: Now that I think about it... Your expression seemed sad when you were sleeping.
Lyria: That was part of the reason I decided to wake you up. Were you having a nightmare, or thinking about something that's worrying you?
(Captain) recalls the dream, but decides to dodge Lyria's question.
Lyria: ...?
Lyria: Just letting it out can always help, so remember that you can talk to me about anything, okay?
(Captain) nods and decides to go to bed early in preparation for tomorrow's tasks.
The next day, the Grandcypher arrives at the North Vast, Phantagrande's northernmost section.
Lyria: Okay, one, two... All right, that's all the boxes!
Kind Researcher: Indeed, I've checked as well! Thank you very much for delivering this food to us.
Vyrn: Even if you're good on fish, ya got no shot at growin' vegetables here in the North Vast, huh?
Kind Researcher: That's right. It would be very difficult to continue conducting research here without you skyfarers delivering supplies.
Kind Researcher: And what's more, airships can't easily reach this place if they don't have a very skilled helmsman...
Vyrn: Good thing ours is the best, hehe! You can count on us!
Kind Researcher: That's reassuring to hear. Though thanks to more hot springs being dug up recently, we're starting to become something of a tourist destination for those in the know.
Lyria: I see! That makes sense, the hot springs here in the North Vast feel so good!
Kind Researcher: Oh, so you're familiar with them already. You must be quite the connoisseur!
Kind Researcher: If there were more regular passenger airships here, I imagine that people would be lining up to enter the Bath of Longevity.
- The Bath of Longevity?
Choose: The Bath of Longevity?Kind Researcher: That's what they're calling one of the hot springs that was dug up recently. The minerals it absorbs from the surrounding mountains are apparently very good for you.
Vyrn: What, do ya want to go there, (Captain)?
Kind Researcher: In that case, shall I draw a map for you? Oh, and I might have a coupon as well...
Lyria: We've been so busy with jobs recently, so soaking in a hot spring to relieve (Captain)'s fatigue sounds good to me!
Accepting the map from the researcher, (Captain), Lyria, and Vyrn head for the Bath of Longevity.
After relaxing in the spring for a while, they reunite at the adjacent cafeteria.
Vyrn: Man, that felt good...
Lyria: It sure did... It was so nice I thought my body would just melt into it...
- You think that increased my lifespan?
Choose: You think that increased my lifespan?Vyrn: Huh? Oh yeah, it's the "Bath of Longevity"! Haha, sure would be nice if it were that easy, huh?
Lyria: It did feel healthy, though! The light green tinge to the water made it seem somehow special.
Vyrn: Yeah, I think it was good for us! I bet it helped with our lifespans too.
Nodding at Vyrn's response, (Captain) whispers something inaudible but clearly resolute.
Lyria: (Captain)? Did you want to come here so we can be together longer?
Vyrn: Ah... The stuff Lilit was sayin', huh?
Lyria: ...!
These three had recently met Lyria's creator and mother, the Astral overseer Lilit.
She had told them that Lyria doesn't age, which means that she will eventually be left behind by everyone she knows and emotionally wither away from the loneliness.
There, (Captain) swore not to leave Lyria by herself.
Vyrn: I'm not planning on leaving Lyria on her lonesome either, but...
Vyrn: I guess we do need to keep you alive and kicking in order to keep lookin' for a way to stay with us forever!
Vyrn: Even if we do find a long-term solution pretty early, I bet we'd be better off havin' your natural lifespan as long as we can make it.
Lyria: (Captain)...
Vyrn...
Lyria: Thank you. Let's keep going on adventures like this together!
Lyria: I want to be with you forever too, after all!
Spirits lifted, (Captain) grips Lyria's hands and nods firmly as she smiles.
After spending a night at the hot spring's inn, the trio returns to the Grandcypher.
Lyria: Right, and then...
Vyrn: Oh? What're ya writing, Lyria?
Lyria: Yesterday's entry in my journal! I didn't bring it with me to the hot springs...
Lyria: I want to write down what happened while I still remember everything.
Vyrn: Ah, good point. It's pretty easy to forget details.
Lyria: That's right. Sometimes I'll talk about something I think I remember, but someone else remembers it differently.
Lyria: That's why I'm glad I've been keeping this journal. Plus, I can always read it just to remember all the wonderful things we've done.
Hearing Lyria talk about the benefits, (Captain) thinks about starting a journal before coming up with another idea.
- Do you want to start an exchange journal?
Choose: Do you want to start an exchange journal?Lyria: An exchange journal?
Vyrn: Oh, you mean the kind where ya take turns writin' in it? You and Aaron started one of those back in the day and gave up—
Covering Vyrn's mouth before he can dredge up any more of the past, (Captain) asks what Lyria thinks.
Lyria: Wow, so we would write in it as if we were exchanging letters? That sounds so fun!
Lyria: Let's do it, (Captain)!
With that, the two decide to take up the idea.
Unlike the short-lived attempt from (Captain)'s childhood, this exchange journal with Lyria sticks.
Nice to Meet You, I'm Lyria!: Scene 2
Lyria and (Captain) are now taking turns writing in an exchange journal. One day, the pair notices a lost child while shopping, and Lyria approaches her to help. After eventually reuniting her with her mother, they return to the Grandcypher.
Lyria: Hehe...
(Captain) notices Lyria cheerfully writing in their journal and tries to peek into it.
Lyria: Hey! You can't look until I hand it to you, (Captain)!
Lyria: I'm almost done, so just wait a little longer.
Lyria: Okay, where did I stop? Um... right, there we go!
Lyria: Thank you for waiting, (Captain). Here's my entry for today in our exchange journal.
Lyria: Umm... Reading it in front of me is too embarrassing... Please look at it later!
Acquiescing to Lyria's slightly pouty request, (Captain) heads to bed with the journal.
Though they are too busy to write in it on some days, (Captain) and Lyria keep taking turns making entries in their shared journal.
Lyria's Journal: "Good work today! This was our first time back in Auguste in a while."
Lyria's Journal: "With the Plesiosauruses becoming friends with the people on land, it's even livelier than before!"
Lyria's Journal: "I find it so wonderful that everyone can get along with each other no matter how different they are."
Lyria's Journal: "Oh, tomorrow we should cook and eat the fish they gave us. I can't wait!"
Vyrn: Wow, Lyria, ya made this fish soup? It's great!
Lyria: Yay, thank you! The fish fell apart a little while it was simmering, so I wasn't sure if it would be any good...
- It's delicious!
Choose: It's delicious!Lyria: Hehe! Thank you for dicing up the seasonings, (Captain)!
Lyria: Those are what make it taste so good, after all. I'm happy you kept your promise!
Vyrn: Promise? When'd ya make a promise?
Lyria: We actually cooked fish soup today because (Captain) suggested it in our journal.
Vyrn: Huh, ya don't say! You're makin' good use of that thing.
Lyria: It's really fun! We get to share our plans and chat about things too!
Vyrn: Ya both really like writing, huh? I'm glad you're enjoyin' it!
The journal's pages fill quickly, as the pair can always find things to put in their entries no matter how much they talk during the day.
One day, (Captain) writes that they're almost out of laundry soap and suggests that they go shopping.
Store Owner: Thank you for your business! I threw in a little extra, so come back some time if you please!
Lyria: Wow, thank you! We'll be sure to shop with you again the next time we come to this island!
Having bought everything they need, (Captain) and Lyria split the load and start making their way back to the Grandcypher.
Lyria: It's great that we found laundry soap that smells so good! Washing up will be something to look forward to now!
Lyria: Oh?
Meek Girl: ...
Lyria: (Captain), could you hold on for a moment?
Lyria: That girl looks troubled... I'll go ask if she's all right!
Lyria: Hello! Is something wrong?
Meek Girl: Ah! Uh, um...
Meek Girl: I... I can't... I can't find my mom!
Lyria: Oh my, I see! Would you like us to help you find her?
Lyria: Ah, the market guards might already be looking for you with her.
Lyria: How about we talk to one of them?
Meek Girl: Wa... Waaagh!
Lyria: A-are you all right? Here, use this handkerchief!
Meek Girl: Thank you, Miss...
Meek Girl: I... I'm just so scared that my mom's gone...
Lyria: It must have been so frightening to be alone... Don't worry, I'm sure we'll find her!
Lyria: My name is Lyria. What's yours?
Liena: Hic... Liena...
Lyria: Nice to meet you, Liena! Now, let's go look for your mom!
Hand in hand with the girl, Lyria returns to (Captain) and they all start searching for the mother.
With help from the market guards, they are able to reunite Liena and her mother before sunset.
Liena: Thank you, Lyria! Thank you, Captain!
Lyria: I'm so happy we found your mom! See you later, Liena!
Liena: Yeah! Thank you so, so much!
Accepting gratitude from the waving girl and repeatedly bowing mother, (Captain) and Lyria head back to the Grandcypher.
Nice to Meet You, I'm Lyria!: Scene 3
Lyria's writes in her journal that it is thanks to (Captain) and Katalina's kindness that she was able to help the lost girl. (Captain) seeks Lyria out and looks up at the stars on the deck with her. When Lyria opens up about the worries she wasn't able to write down, (Captain) assures her that she'll be fine because she is growing. Her spirits lifted, Lyria reveals one more thought she didn't write in the journal.
Lyria's Journal: "I was really happy to go shopping together today, and had a lot of fun!"
Several hours after helping the little girl find her mother, (Captain) is reading Lyria's latest entry in their exchange journal.
Lyria's Journal: "I'm so glad that we helped Liena find her mother. I was actually hesitant about talking to her at first."
Lyria's Journal: "I was worried she might actually be fine, or that she would be scared of me because I was a stranger."
Lyria's Journal: "But then I decided talking to her wouldn't really have been a problem even if she wasn't in trouble, and that more importantly we really had to help her if she was."
Lyria's Journal: "It's thanks to you, Vyrn, Katalina, and everyone else that I can think that way now."
Lyria's Journal: "It's because you and the others are always kind to me that I can desire to be kind to others."
Lyria's Journal: "When I think about how I'm this way because I met you all, it makes me both happy and proud!"
Lyria's Journal: "Thank you so much for meeting me, (Captain)!"
Upon finishing the gratitude-filled entry, (Captain) starts writing back, beginning with "No, thank you."
Finishing up the reply, (Captain) feels like seeing Lyria and leaves the cabin with the journal.
Lyria: Ah, (Captain)! What are you doing here so late at night?
Lyria: Me? I was gazing at the sky. Look, it's so clear tonight that we can see a lot of stars!
As Lyria points, (Captain) stands beside her and looks up at the night sky.
Lyria: ...
Lyria: We've looked up at the stars together so many times now, haven't we?
Lyria: We've been all over the skies, and even to Estalucia...
Lyria: There have been so many sad things, but even more happy and fun things...
Lyria: So many...
Lyria: ...
As Lyria starts blinking while looking up at the sky, (Captain) holds her hand.
Lyria: (Captain)...
Lyria: Do you... Do you mind if I tell you about what I couldn't write in the journal?
(Captain) nods, inspiring Lyria to turn as she gently squeezes the hand in hers with fingers made chilly by the cool night air.
Lyria: The truth is... I'm a little scared.
Lyria: My life is so fun now that I'm scared of what will happen to me when it has to change...
Lyria: If I lose you, become separated from Vyrn, and have to say goodbye to Katalina and everyone else...
Lyria: When that happens, I... I might go back to how I was when the empire had me.
Lyria: I never felt any emotions, and everything seemed like it was far away, and... And...
(Captain) envelops Lyria's balled fists with both hands, as if to impart warmth to her.
- That won't happen.
- I think you'll be all right.
Choose: That won't happen.Lyria: Why? How can you be so sure?
Choose: I think you'll be all right.Lyria: Even so, I still feel worried...
Lyria: I want to trust what you say, but I can't help myself...
Continue 1Seeing how despondent Lyria is, (Captain) holds her hands even tighter.
- I'm confident because you're growing.
Choose: I'm confident because you're growing.Lyria: I'm... growing?
(Captain) lists examples, like how she was brave enough to approach the lost girl.
Lyria: Do you really think so? Am I growing?
- Of course!
Choose: Of course!(Captain) nods strongly in affirmation and assures Lyria that she can always share anything she is worried about.
Lyria: Thank you, (Captain)...
Lyria: It really is thanks to you and everyone else setting an example for me that I found my courage.
Lyria: And so... I'm going to call on that courage to say just one more thing...
Lyria: You see...
With a soft voice, Lyria starts discussing a certain topic with (Captain).
Nice to Meet You, I'm Lyria!: Scene 4
What had most been weighing on Lyria's mind was the idea of living in a world where everyone has forgotten her once all of her friends pass away. She and (Captain) have now made a promise that she would meet even more people than she parts with, including the reborn (Captain) when that time comes. Determined never to lose the courage to connect with others, she cheerfully introduces herself to their new client.
Lyria's Journal: "Thank you so much for talking with me about my worries, (Captain). It has made me feel so much better."
Lyria's Journal: "What Lilit... What my mom said had made me so scared."
Lyria's Journal: "I was so frightened of the idea that even thousands of years after you pass away, I still won't be able to leave for Estalucia."
Lyria's Journal: "I was so afraid of losing everyone and having to live in a world where nobody remembers me."
Lyria's Journal: "But now that I've made this promise to you, I know that I'll be all right!"
Lyria's Journal: "I'm going to write it down here so that I never forget it."
Lyria's Journal: "When you leave for Estalucia, (Captain), I will begin a new journey as well."
Lyria's Journal: "I know that I'll have to part with many old friends, but I'll make sure to meet even more new ones."
Lyria's Journal: "Like I did with Liena today, I'll approach people who don't know me and start by introducing myself."
Lyria's Journal: "And after several thousand years of meetings and partings, when the time comes for you to be reborn, (Captain)..."
Lyria's Journal: "I'll find you, then say hello and tell you my name. You'll remember nothing, so we'll start making memories together from scratch."
Lyria's Journal: "Just like you desired, I will never, ever lose the courage to connect with others."
Lyria's Journal: "Thank you for making so many promises with me, (Captain). I swear not to forget any of them!"
Lyria's Journal: "When you told my mom that you would make me happy, I felt truly overjoyed."
Lyria's Journal: "That makes me think that these promises might be one way people can find bliss."
Lyria's Journal: "Thank you so, so much. I love you, (Captain)!"
After reading the last line, (Captain) closes the journal with a smile almost like a prayer.
And then, on another day of their journey...
Vyrn: Hey there! Are you the guy who put in a request with the Knickknack Shack?
Worried Client: Oh thank goodness, the skyfarers have arrived! Everything's a mess, I'm telling you!
Vyrn: Whoa there, buddy! How 'bout you start by taking a deep breath?
Worried Client: Ah, I apologize... I forgot to even introduce myself. It's a pleasure to meet you!
Lyria: It's nice to meet you! I'm Lyria!
Lyria: This is Vyrn, and this is (Captain)...
During her daily life, the phrase "Nice to meet you" will come from Lyria's mouth again and again.
As she continues her long, long journey through the skies, those words will be with her every step of the way.
