Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Opening

The infamous Phantom Thief Chat Noir has set his sights on stealing the Jewel Resort Casino Liner. The casino manager, Christina, decides to call in Chat Noir's greatest rival, Detective Barawa.

All is lively aboard the luxurious Jewel Resort Casino Liner.
But off the opulent hall of the casino floor, the mood is tense in the employee lounge.
Casino Staff: Well, that's it. It's all happening like the note said it would.
Bunny Waitress: I guess the rumors about the one who sent this are true...
One of the casino staff wears an uneasy expression as they hold the note in their hand. It reads:
Suspicious Note: My dearest Jewel Resort staff members,
I am the renowned Phantom Thief.
Suspicious Note: I can say with absolute certainty that your beloved Jewel Resort Casino Liner will soon belong to me.
Suspicious Note: The One and Only,
Phantom Thief Chat Noir
Casino Staff: Chat Noir, the Phantom Thief... They say once he's chosen his mark, he always gets it.
Christina is a crew member

Casino Staff: Sigh... Where is Lady Christy when we need her...
Christina: Quit your whining!
Casino Staff: !
Bunny Waitress: L-Lady Christy!
Christina: I leave you for a while, and when I come back, all I find are fools!
Christina: Why are you all sitting there whispering amongst yourselves! Who's dealing with the guests?
Casino Staff: Thank you!
Bunny Waitress: Lady Christy, the truth is... The Jewel Resort is facing an unprecedented crisis!
Christina: What? What the hell are you talking about! So why haven't you blockheads done anything about it?
Casino Staff: Thank you!
Bunny Waitress: Sniff... It's just... Sob...
Christina: Seriously? Are you fools for real?
Christina: Whatever... I get the feeling we're in a bind—Ahem. Spill it.
Bunny Waitress: Here. This is what we've been dealing with...
Christina: A note? From the Phantom Thief? Explain!
Casino Staff: Phantom Thief Chat Noir is notorious throughout the skies! He's a master criminal who never misses his mark!
Casino Staff: Thank you!
Christina: Yes, I know who he is! Who do you take me for? What I want to know is what's going on!
Bunny Waitress: Erm, well... Business at the Jewel Resort Casino has slowed recently...
Bunny Waitress: So we were all racking our brains.
Bunny Waitress: It's really odd how business has trailed off. It could only be the Phantom Thief's doing...
Christina: Show me the account books. Hmm...
Christina: So he wants to destroy my casino business and steal the ship. Is that about right?
Christina: It's a little farfetched, but what if that Phantom Thief is bribing one of my toads to make this all happen...
Christina: If one of them has turned on me, then trusting any of them would be the death of this place.
Christina: Guess I'll actually have to lift a finger for this one.
Christina not in crew

And with that, Christina cracks her whip. A whip of love.
Christina: Do you really think just staring at that note will change anything? Think of a plan!
Casino Staff: But the Phantom Thief... he never misses his target. This is hopeless!
Casino Staff: Thank you!
Christina: Does anybody else have anything whiny and unproductive to say? I told you to think of a plan!
Bunny Waitress: But, Lady Christy, it really does seem like this Phantom Thief is coming after us...
Christina: I get it. Ever since that note arrived, business in the casino has been tapering off.
Christina: Someone is exploiting one of my employees to cheat on the games and steal money from me.
Bunny Waitress: So it really is the work of the Phantom Thief...
Christina: Who knows. We might not know who this Phantom Thief really is, but we can safely say this note is from him.
Casino Staff: So... What will you do?
Christina: I've heard rumors of my own.
Christina: There's someone who may be able to catch him.
Casino Staff: Do you mean that detective...
Casino Staff: Thank you!
Christina: Yes! Stop dawdling! Call him right away! Make him an offer he can't refuse!
Barawa: It's nice to meet you. I'm Detective Barawa.
Sarya: Hello! I'm his trusty assistant, Sarya!
Christina: I hear you're Chat Noir's greatest rival.
Barawa: Correct. I am the only person who has ever gotten close to the Phantom Thief.
Christina: This note arrived several days ago. It bears all the hallmarks of an experienced and nefarious thief.
Sarya: Detective, this note—
Barawa: Have you spotted something?
Ah, but of course!
Christina: What is it?
Barawa: Hahaha, all in a day's work for the great Detective Barawa!
Sarya: Erm... Before you close the case, perhaps we should investigate first?
Sarya: If we really want the truth, we need to catch the Phantom Thief!
Barawa: Hmm... You have a point. Let's do that, Sarya.
Christina: So you think you can help us?
Barawa: Of course! Whenever the Phantom Thief is involved, I, the great Detective Barawa, will solve the mystery!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 1: Cards on the Table - Episode 1

(Captain) and the crew are visiting the casino and meet the duelist Therese, who is currently working as a bunny waitress to help the casino's floundering business. When a wealthy guest named Vas is accosted by ruffians, the crew and Therese intervene.

(Captain) and the crew are staying in the guest rooms of the Jewel Resort Casino.
After taking a quick breather in their rooms, they head to the tables of the main hall.
Vyrn: All right! Today I'm definitely gonna make up for last time!
Lyria: Nice! Good luck, Vyrn!
Therese (Event) is a crew member

Therese: Umm, would you like a drink, Vyrn?
Vyrn: Oh, Therese! That bunny costume really suits you!
Therese: I-is that a good thing?
Therese: Even though I'm a duelist...
Vyrn: Actually, I am a little shocked...
Vyrn: Never thought I'd see you in a getup like that, Therese.
Guest: Hey, Therese! Get me another cocktail!
Therese: Huh? O-okay! Coming right up!
Therese: Sigh... This is so embarrassing.
Lyria: Ahaha... She doesn't look very comfortable in that...
Vyrn: They say the casino's been bleeding chips, so they had to do something to bring in customers.
Lyria: Hmm... Yeah, things are looking pretty down right now, but poor Therese...
Therese (Event) not in crew

???: E-excuse me. Would you guests like a drink?
Lyria: Is that you, Therese? Thanks for tending to us!
Therese: Oh, I remember you from before. If there's anything else you'd like, please call me over.
Therese: As the new bunny waitress here at the casino, I hope to serve you again.
Guest's Voice: Hey, Therese! Get me another cocktail!
Therese: Huh? O-okay! Coming right up!
Therese: Sigh... This is so embarrassing.
Vyrn: Hmm, so she's that popular duelist I've been hearing about... But I just don't see it.
Lyria: A duelist? Aren't they the people who fight in the arena?
Lyria: People do say looks can be deceiving, but Therese doesn't look like a duelist to me either...
Vyrn: Maybe those outfits are part of the casino's plan to get more customers. I hear they're doing pretty bad.
Vyrn: This place is full of surprises...
Christina: Excuse me? Little kittens, exactly what about my casino is bad, hmm?
Christina is a crew member

Vyrn: Oh! If it isn't Christina herself!
Christina: I hope one of my blabbermouth toads hasn't been flapping their gums in front of you.
Lyria: N-no... That's not what's happened!
Vyrn: Er... Maybe I heard a little something in passing...
Christina: You're right though. Business isn't going too well.
Christina: You see, it seems an incredibly nasty rat is trespassing on my ship.
Christina: A disgusting, gorging rat getting fat off my workers' incompetence!
Christina: And it looks like I'll have to take care of it soon.
Christina: Now then...
Christina not in crew

Vyrn: Uh... Who are you?
Christina: I am the amazing Christina, manager of this casino.
Christina: Stuff that away in those cute, little brains of yours.
Christina: Now then, why were you kittens talking about my business problems in the first place?
Christina: I bet one of my gasbag employees has been spouting garbage in front of you, haven't they?
Christina: Hmmm, in any case it's none of your business.
Christina: The truth aside, if this fiasco gets blown out of proportion, it'll be a problem. So I need you to promise to keep that information to yourselves.
Christina: If you don't want to feel the sweet licks of my whip, I suggest you little kittens keep your mouths shut real tight.
Vyrn: W-we won't say anything! Promise!
Christina: Now that's a good little kitten. Leave the management of this casino to those who know best.
Christina: I suggest you go clear your heads with some dicey fun and games.
Vyrn: A-as I was saying! To the tables!
Lyria: Yep!
Gathering their wits, they forget all about the casino's finances to revel in the fevered pitch of the games.
Ruffian's Voice 1: Vas, you jerk!
Ruffian's Voice 2: Argh! You've done this one too many times!
Vyrn: Hmm, you hear that? It seems like that table over there is getting fired up.
Lyria: Sounds more like trouble to me.
Vyrn: I wanna know what's going on, so let's go sneak a peek!
Vas: Now just hold it right there, boys... What exactly are you accusing me of?
Ruffian 1: Don't play dumb with us!
Ruffian 2: You tricked us! And now you're forcing us to work in that stinking mine in Valtz!
Vas: My, my... There seems to have been a little misunderstanding... Shall we go outside and talk about it?
Ruffian 1: Screw your misunderstanding!
Ruffian 2: There's no way I'm paying off my debt with manual labor! You can't force us!
Vas: Well, that is a shame... And I was going to introduce you to the foreman too...
Ruffian 1: The hell you would!
Bunny Waitress: Eek! Please don't brandish your weapons in here!
Ruffian 2: Zip it and butt out!
Ruffian 2: Yeeow!
Christina: You've got some guts trying to fight in here. Do you know what happens to those who ruin the mood in my casino?
Christina: Therese! Use whatever means necessary to deal with these delinquents!
Therese: !
Therese (Event) is a crew member

Vyrn: Wait! Therese can't deal with those ruffians alone!
Vyrn: Look! She's outnumbered! C'mon, (Captain), let's lend her a hand!
Therese (Event) not in crew

Vyrn: Wait! She can't deal with those ruffians alone!
Lyria: Eek, (Captain)! Please help Therese!
Therese: Hahaha!
Vyrn: What the? Something's different about her...
Therese: Now then...
Therese: Hello, everyone! It's been so long! Are you all enjoying your time here?
Guest 1: Look! It's her!
Guest 2: It's Therese, the duelist! She's back!
Therese: I was on a bit of a break, but it's your lucky day!
Guest 1: Wow! Start the betting!
Guest 2: There's no contest! I'm with Therese all the way!
Ruffian 1: Huh? Not a single one of these stooges is betting on us!
Ruffian 2: You bozos got some nerve looking down on us! Get her!
Therese: Then let the duel... begin.
Therese: Prepare to get crushed!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 1: Cards on the Table - Episode 2

Detective Barawa thanks everyone for saving his good friend, Vas, and the crew returns to the poker tables. Smoke suddenly erupts from an elderly poker player, and when the smoke clears, monsters have taken his place.

Ruffian 1: Argh! Let me go!
Ruffian 2: We're not the ones in the wrong! He is!
Casino Staff: You lot sure are a handful of trouble. Let's take this to my office.
Ruffian 1: Let me go!
Vas: Phew, you really helped me out there.
Christina: I don't need the details, just don't start trouble in my casino.
Christina: I know you're a regular, but if this happens again, I'll think twice about inviting you back.
Vas: My apologies, Lady Christy.
Vas: I was just trying to help them get work, but it seems there was a misunderstanding, and I apologized.
Vas: I didn't expect the situation would turn violent. Forgive me just this once.
Barawa: Vas, old chum! You all right?
Sarya: What's all the commotion?
Vas: Oh, Barawa, you came! And you brought your assistant, Sarya, too! I'm in no shortage of good company.
Vas: This duelist and (Captain)'s crew helped me out of a tight spot just now.
Barawa: Really now? (Captain) and Ms. Duelist, thank you both for helping my lifesaver of a friend.
Therese (Event) is a crew member

Vyrn: No worries! But we couldn't have done it alone. Therese really showed them!
Therese (Event) not in crew

Vyrn: Thanks, but we couldn't have done it alone. This lady in the bunny outfit really showed them!
Sarya: But, Barawa, weren't those ruffians shouting something about being tricked...
Barawa: Hah hah hah! Don't be silly! Vas is a saint. He would never do something like that!
Barawa: Vas always treats people well, and he often donates to charities and schools, so he's definitely a stand-up guy.
Vas: Hahaha, you flatter me, Barawa.
Barawa: Oh, where are my manners? I haven't even introduced myself.
Barawa: I'm Detective Barawa. The man who is just short of cornering Phantom Thief Chat Noir.
Sarya: And I'm his assistant, Sarya. We're staying on the liner for business.
Sarya: Speaking of which, you called Vas a lifesaver of a friend. Do you know each other?
Barawa: Ahh, yes. When I first entered the service, Vas took me under his wing.
Vas: Haha. That was around the same time Barawa here vowed to catch the Phantom Thief.
Barawa: Hahaha! What a great place to be on the hunt if I do say so myself!
Sarya: Oh, of course... That was when it happened...
Vyrn: The military? Chairlock Holmes, were you an imperial soldier?
Barawa: No, I didn't fight for the Erste Empire. It was a much smaller country's military.
Barawa: Oops, I'm being rude again! All this droning about myself must've bored you all to death.
Barawa: On that note, now that everything's back to normal, I think we should all move along.
Vas: Mm. (Captain), as a token of my gratitude, please let me treat you to dinner later.
Vyrn: Let's get back to the games!
Lyria: Hehe, maybe you'll hit the jackpot, Vyrn!
Vyrn: Yeah! Let's go, (Captain)!
Bunny: Sigh...
Lyria: Hmm? What's the matter?
Bunny Waitress: Gasp! How rude of me... This is the poker table. Please have a seat!
Vyrn: Why the long face? Something on your mind?
Bunny Waitress: It's just...
Bunny Waitress: Recently Lady Christy has been particularly hard on us. So many things are happening, so she's really worked up.
Lyria: I see... That whip looks like it hurts a little too...
Bunny Waitress: Little is an understatement! Oh, but I'm not supposed to talk about that with the guests...
Bunny Waitress: So, would you like to buy some chips? If you need anything, please let me know!
The crew members take up several poker tables.
Lyria plays her first hand.
Lyria: Hmm...
Pompous Guest: Tough luck, my dear, but I'll be taking the pot.
Lyria: Oh no, my chips...
Pompous Guest: Haha, when you first start playing, you'll lose for a while!
Pompous Guest: But then the hands start coming your way, and you win pot after pot... Just like me.
Lyria: Grr... One more hand!
Pompous Guest: Really, child? You know, not knowing when to quit is essential for players like me to win!
Casino Staff: ...
And so the cards are dealt.
Pompous Guest: Hehe, what have you got?
Lyria: Hmm... Is this what you call a royal straight flush?
Pompous Guest: I-impossible!
Casino Staff: Haha! What a stroke of luck!
Clearly irked, the pompous player demands that another hand be dealt.
Lyria: Wow! This time I have four of the same card... and the other is a joker.
Pompous Guest: Five of a kind? You cheat!
Casino Staff: I'm sorry, sir, but that is not the case. If this young lady had been cheating, I would not have turned a blind eye.
Casino Staff: Please do not accuse others with such unfounded allegations, as this may cause an inconvenience to our guests.
Pompous Guest: Urgh...
Casino Staff: We dealers are always on the lookout. Cheating here is not tolerated.
Pompous Guest: Damn! I have better things to do! I'm going back to my room.
Lyria: That joker card... Maybe the dealer...
Casino Staff: Hoho, do you doubt my integrity as well, young lady?
Lyria: Eek! T-that's not what I meant!
Casino Staff: Hahaha. I'm only joking.
Casino Staff: I just... I try to make the game fun and pleasant for everybody. To the best of my abilities...
Casino Staff: It's possible for those who are familiar with a deck to control it. Something about the heart of the cards, you could say.
Vyrn: I'm starting to think the dealer was pulling the strings after all.
Casino Staff: Hahaha, I'll leave that to your imagination.
Casino Staff: Just think of me as a card whisperer... A darn good one! Hahaha.
Quiet Guest: Is this seat taken?
Casino Staff: It just became free. Is an extra player all right with you all?
Vyrn: Sure, doesn't bother me!
Lyria: Me neither!
Quiet Guest: Thank you. I hear you're a card whiz...
Casino Staff: Hahaha, well, better a whiz than a cheat. I just do a few little tricks here and there.
Quiet Guest: Tricks... I see.
Quiet Guest: I know a trick or two as well. Watch...
Suddenly a giant plume of smoke billows out from the old man and fills the hall.
Vyrn: Cough... What's happening!
Lyria: Eek! I can't see a thing!
Casino Staff: Are you all right, everyone?
The hall echoes with confused voices of the guests, and finally the smoke clears.
Monsters: ...!
Vyrn: Huh? Where'd the monsters come from?
Casino Staff: Those are... Everyone, evacuate!
Vyrn: We should deal with them! Let's go, (Captain)!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 1: Cards on the Table - Episode 3

The crew and other passengers seek refuge from the monsters, inadvertently trapping themselves in a single room where the door is locked by a puzzle. Detective Barawa determines that this trickery must be the work of Phantom Thief Chat Noir, and with the help of (Captain), attempts to solve the puzzle.

Monsters: !
Christina: Unbelievable... What are you louts doing? Go and help get rid of those monsters! Quickly!
Christina: Therese, you lead the vanguard! Everyone else makes sure the guests get to safety!
Therese: Leave it to me! I'll twist these monsters into pretzels!
Christina: I suspected this would happen. Putting Therese on guard in the casino hall was sheer genius on my part.
Christina: Phantom Thief Chat Noir... That rat has finally set his plan into motion.
Sarya: What's going on here!
Barawa: Vas, quick! Get somewhere safe!
Vas: Sorry, Barawa... This time it seems I'll be under your wing.
Sarya: Something's wrong! These monsters... It's as if they're being manipulated into causing harm...
Barawa: Then we have even more reason to get a move on!
Sarya: Yes, but...
Barawa: We can deal with the case later! Right now we need to worry about ourselves!
Sarya: Right!
Vyrn: Everybody is running that way! Maybe they know a safe place to hide!
Vyrn: We beat some of the monsters, but there's more where that came from! Let's get out of here!
And with that, (Captain) and the crew escape from the remaining monsters by running to another hall.
Vyrn: Sheesh, even we can't deal with that many monsters!
Vyrn: Speaking of numbers, there are a lot of people in here.
Lyria: We're all squashed in like sardines!
Vyrn: Is this everybody who's on the ship?
Lyria: Maybe, but I haven't seen Therese...
Christina: One of my toads is missing too.
Vas: My butler doesn't seem to be here either...
Sarya: Hmm, perhaps...
Bunny Waitress: Eek! Lady Christy!
Christina: Keep your voice down! Are you trying to add to the guests' worries?
Bunny Waitress: Erm, Lady Christy... Look...
Christina: What is that thing?
Bunny Waitress: The doorknob's been tampered with...
Barawa: Hm, that device stinks of the Phantom Thief. Could it be a trap?
Sarya: I knew it! The Phantom Thief's funneled us here and locked us all in this room!
Barawa: What?
Sarya: Here, take a look at this note!
Note: Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am the Phantom Thief, Chat Noir.
Note: There is a treasure I must take back. That is why I had to gather you all here. I can't have anyone getting in my way.
Note: It isn't much, but I have provided you with a spot of mid-flight entertainment. Stay right where you are for a spell.
Note: And allow me to show you the skill of a true thief.
Note: Yours mysteriously,
Phantom Thief Chat Noir
Christina: Is this a joke?
Barawa: Entertainment? Does he mean this thing on the doorknob?
Sarya: It's quite possible...
Bunny Waitress: S-so we're all stuck here?
Vyrn: I don't really get it, but if we solve this doorknob thingy, we can leave the room?
Vyrn: C'mon then! Let's figure it out quick and get out of here!
Barawa: Wait! It might be a trap!
Sarya: It should be okay, right? He's not known to resort to tricks that accidently kill people...
Barawa: But how do we know that this note is from the real Phantom Thief? It could be from the sender of the first letter from days ago!
Vyrn: Real Phantom Thief? What are you talking about?
Sarya: Shhh, Detective!
Barawa: Oops!
Sarya: Pssst.
(Try not to let things slip like that! We're supposed to be handling this with utmost secrecy!)
Barawa: (I'm sorry, it's just...)
Sarya: (This is the real deal, I'm sure of it. Can you smell that? It's the perfume Chat Noir uses—his signature mark!)
Barawa: (Good point... This note does carry the scent of the Phantom Thief.)
Sarya: (And don't you go telling anyone about the perfume either!)
Sarya: (This highly-classified information is only for people involved with the investigation!)
Barawa: (All right, all right... No need to bite my head off.)
Barawa: May I have your attention, everyone. Please remain calm. There is no need to worry.
Barawa: This measly device is no match for me, the great Detective Barawa!
With that, the self-proclaimed great detective turns to face the puzzle on the door.
Barawa: I'm stumped.
Sarya: Wait a minute! You can't give up just like that!
Barawa: Easy for you to say. There's a clue written here for some reason.
Barawa: But I can't make heads or tails of it.
Vyrn: Let me see... Ahem...
Vyrn: "The task of opening the door falls on a person who has survived. And to survive, sustenance is a necessity."
Vyrn: "For a bug, that is a flower. For a frog, that is a bug. For a bird, that is a frog."
Vyrn: "And as for the bird, it will set you free."
What is this gibberish?
Vyrn: Do you get it, (Captain)?
Vyrn: You got an idea, don't you? I can see it on your face. Give it a try, (Captain)!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 1: Cards on the Table - Episode 3: Scene 2

After struggling in vain with the cryptic puzzle left for them by the Phantom Thief, (Captain) admits defeat. Left with no other choice, Detective Barawa brute forces the door open.

Vyrn: Hmm, what's wrong, (Captain)?
Vyrn: How can you just give up! You were so confident a second ago!
Sarya: I think this is as far as (Captain) goes...
Barawa: So be it. Desperate times calls for desperate something-or-other.
Vyrn: Huh? Chairlock Holmes, why are you backing up?
Barawa: Just leave this to me!
Barawa: Haaah!
Vyrn: Whoa! He broke down the door!
Barawa: Ta-da! Now we can leave.
Sarya: Wh-what brute force...
Vyrn: Uh, I'm pretty sure you were supposed to use your head to solve the puzzle...
Barawa: But I did. I hit the door with my head and everything.
Barawa: And after even more thinking...
Barawa: You can draw the conclusion that we don't have time to play games with the Phantom Thief!
Vyrn: Oof... You have all the elegance of a bull in a china shop.
Sarya: Well, it's not bad to be a little unorthodox. At least then we can say Chat Noir isn't calling the shots.
Christina: In any case, the problem has been resolved. Let's get out of here and have a look around.

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 1: Cards on the Table - Episode 3: Scene 3

After quite a struggle, (Captain) manages to open the door. Although the Phantom Thief's true intentions are still unclear, they venture out of the room and assess the situation.

Vyrn: I knew you could do it, (Captain)! You solved it in no time at all!
Barawa: Hmm, you're a sharp one.
Sarya: Thanks to you, it looks like we can get out of this room!
Sarya: It seems odd though. What was Chat Noir doing outside while we were locked in here?
Barawa: I've got a bad feeling about this... Let's go and have a look around.

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 1: Cards on the Table - Episode 4

The group confirms that a number of people went missing during the monster invasion, and Christina forms a search party consisting of the crew, Barawa, Sarya, and Vas. Before long a machina soldier threatens to halt their search.

Christina: I want to find out if my toad is okay.
Draph Staff Member: I'll accompany you!
Lyria: Me too! I'm worried about Therese! Let's go and look for her, (Captain).
Vas: Not knowing my butler's whereabouts is troubling... I think I'll go search for him too.
Vyrn: Are you sure you'll be okay out there, mister? Shouldn't you stay somewhere safe?
Vas: You don't need to worry about me. I have...
Vas: This!
Lyria: Wow! What an amazing gun!
Vas: I couldn't get my hands on the casino's coveted Jewel Modele.
Vas: So I had this made instead. Hahaha. Isn't it amazing?
Vyrn: Wow, it's crammed with gold and jewels.
Vyrn: You know, I bet you wanted to show off that gun more than you wanted to save your butler.
Vas: You got me! I guess I couldn't help it. Hahaha.
Vyrn: Who'd have guessed... You're just like a kid with a new toy.
Sarya: ...
Barawa: What is it, Sarya?
Sarya: Nothing. I was just thinking...
Sarya: I don't understand what Chat Noir is plotting...
Sarya: I guess locking us away was just a means to buy himself some time for something else. Let's tread carefully.
Barawa: At least this much is for certain: his preparation is flawless.
Vyrn: Okay! Let's get moving!
Vyrn: It's quiet now that the monsters have all gone. It feels really different in here.
Vas: Humph... That's somewhat anticlimactic. I never even got a chance to use my gun!
Barawa: Vyrn, Vas, don't let your guard down. I've seen many a man meet his doom by not being prepared.
Sarya: For now, we're safe. We should just look for the missing people.
Vas: I hope my butler isn't hurt...
Vyrn: Hey, Chairlock Holmes. Why'd you quit being a soldier?
Barawa: Hmm, now that's a question...
Barawa: A long time ago, a letter from the Phantom Thief arrived at Vas's mansion.
Vas: That brings back memories.
Sarya: Chat Noir wanted the treasure stored in Vas's mansion, but Detective Barawa foiled the plot!
Barawa: Yep. And now I'm tracking down the Phantom Thief, but he's always one step ahead...
Vas: We vowed never to use that phrase.
Barawa: Hah hah hah! That's right. I promised never to say he's got a step on me.
Sarya: But, Detective, you're the only man who's ever managed to track him this far!
Barawa: Oh, stop it. Enough flattery...
Barawa: Well, that's the reason I became a detective.
Sarya: I admire that about you. That's why I became your assistant.
Vyrn: Wow, Chairlock Holmes sounds pretty awesome!
Barawa: Hahaha. And that's why they call me a great detective.
Vyrn: All right, let's solve this case lickety-split!
Barawa: Hahaha! Leave it to the great Detective Barawa!
Sarya: Let's hope all goes well...
Monster: !
Vas: Oooh. Looks like a live one.
Vyrn: Ahh! What's that?
Barawa: It's a huge machina soldier! Vas, get back!
Sarya: Chat Noir must have put this here!
Sarya: Detective, (Captain), please be careful!
Barawa: Sarya, what is it?
Sarya: This monster... It's not like the weak ones you faced before!
Sarya: This machina soldier has clearly been made specifically for combat! It's a weapon of mass destruction!
Barawa: Now that you mention it... I've seen this type of machine in the army.
Vyrn: Leave this to us! We'll bust this machina soldier to bits.

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 1: Cards on the Table - Episode 4: Scene 2

A mysterious primal beast appears, destroys the machina soldier, and then disappears. Sarya asks the crew to assist Detective Barawa with the investigation and explains that an imposter thief intends to steal the casino liner, but for some reason the real Phantom Thief is also on board.

Barawa: Is it over?
Sarya: Hehe! You almost got squashed there!
Vyrn: You did it, (Captain)! Just like always!
Machina Soldier: !
Vyrn: Hey! It's still moving!
Vas: Argh... Damned thing!
Barawa: Vas, get back!
???: ...
Suddenly the area is bathed in a bright light.
All involved forget about the machina soldier attacking Vas, their focus directed at the unbelievable sight in the middle of the light.
???: ...
Vyrn: What is that? Look! Something's coming out of the light!
Lyria: T-that's a primal beast!
Christina: That form... Can it be?
???: ...
The figure in the light looks around, and its eyes, soft with a loving gaze, narrow as it focuses on the machina soldier.
It reaches out a hand and lightly touches the machina soldier. The machine disintegrates into a shower of gold coins.
Vyrn: What just happened? Both the machina soldier and the primal beast disappeared!
Christina: That was...
Vyrn: Lyria, was that really a primal beast?
Lyria: Yes... It left as quickly as it appeared.
Vyrn: Oh brother... First a Phantom Thief and now a primal beast. What is with today?
Sarya: ...
Sarya: Detective...
Barawa: Yes?
Sarya: Do you think we could ask (Captain) to help us with our investigation?
Barawa: Hmm... Why would we do that?
Sarya: Releasing a monster to cause chaos while he steals the treasure is one of Chat Noir's signature techniques!
Sarya: This time there were more monsters than ever before and a primal beast to boot.
Sarya: There's something different about this case. Something that I think will require someone who is skilled in combat.
Barawa: Elementary, Sarya. I was thinking the same thing. You must have other reasons as well, right?
Sarya: Yes.
Sarya: Back in the room we were trapped in, (Captain) saw the Phantom Thief's puzzle and instinctively began thinking of a way to solve it.
Sarya: If (Captain) comes with us, maybe... we could outwit Chat Noir!
Barawa: Hahaha. Now that is an interesting idea! (Captain)'s intuition is pretty sharp. That much we can agree on.
Sarya: (Captain), do you think you could possibly cooperate with us on our investigation?
  1. Of course!
  2. Nope!

Choose: Of course!
Sarya: Thanks! We're a bit in over our heads here...

Choose: Nope!
Sarya: What? Y-you won't help us?
Barawa: Of course they won't agree to help. We haven't even discussed compensation.
Christina: Taking on somebody like the Phantom Thief is not something you do out of the goodness of your heart. I wouldn't.
Christina: As the manager of the Jewel Resort, it is my duty to protect it!
Christina: Help me protect my casino, little kitten, and I'll make it worth your time. I guarantee it.
Vyrn: So whaddaya say, (Captain)? Should we help 'em out?
Vyrn: What? You'll do it if there's a reward? When did you become all about the money, huh?
Sarya: Oh, thank goodness. We're a bit in over our heads here...
Continue 1
Vyrn: In over your heads? Whatcha mean?
Christina: I'm the one who called them here, so let me explain.
Christina: What I'm about to tell you is known only to the detective, myself, and a handful of my employees, so don't repeat any of this to anyone else.
Christina: Right now the Jewel Resort is being targeted by a notorious criminal called Chat Noir, the Phantom Thief.
Christina: One day we received a note. In it, Chat Noir stated that my Jewel Resort would soon belong to him.
Christina: Since then business at the casino has been declining irregularly.
Christina: If this continues, I'm going to lose the ship.
Lyria: So the Phantom Thief might really take the casino...
Barawa: And that's why she called me, the great Detective Barawa.
Sarya: And his assistant, Sarya!
Vyrn: I remember you guys talking about an imposter or something. What's that about?
Barawa: We suspect the sender of the note that Christina mentioned before...
Sarya: Is a copycat. Basically a fake Phantom Thief. That much is certain.
Barawa: Without a doubt. It didn't have the scent.
Lyria: The scent?
Barawa: Chat Noir marks all his messages with a special perfume. That is a fact only known to those involved in the investigation.
Vyrn: Really...
Sarya: There are many copycats out there who use the name Chat Noir, but...
Barawa: The trouble is, the message Christina received did not have that smell.
Barawa: In other words, this ship is being targeted by both Chat Noir and an imposter at the same time.
Vyrn: I can't make apples or oranges out of what you're saying anymore...
Barawa: I don't know what the real Phantom Thief is here for. But one thing is clear: he's up to no good.
Lyria: Are you going to catch both of them?
Barawa: Of course! Or my name isn't the great Detective Barawa!
Lyria: Erm... I wonder if I can keep up with all of this...
Barawa: Don't worry. We're pros. And if we all work together, we can solve this case.
Barawa: I look forward to working with you, (Captain).
What was once a quick jaunt by the crew to the Jewel Resort Casino Liner has become a full-blown mystery.
(Captain) agrees to partner with Detective Barawa, who is hot on the tail of the phantom thieves.

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 2: Suspects, Suspects Everywhere - Episode 1

Vas has his gun stolen by Chat Noir during their search, but getting it back will have to wait until every missing person is found. They manage to find Therese first, whose voice sounds strange from inhaling too much dust.

Phantom Thief Chat Noir has sent the Jewel Resort Casino into chaos.
In order to save the casino liner from its crisis, (Captain) lends a helping hand to Detective Barawa.
Lyria: We can't find Therese anywhere.
Christina: And I still don't know where my missing toad is. Damned Phantom Thief...
Vas: Oh, hello again.
Alas, I didn't find my butler either. On the contrary...
Barawa: Go on...
Vas: Er... Well, my gun has been stolen.
Barawa: What?
Vyrn: Holy smokes! It looked super fancy too!
Vas: Suddenly smoke filled the room, and when it cleared, the gun had disappeared from my hand.
Vas: This must also be the doing of the Phantom Thief. I was too careless.
Barawa: Hmm, perhaps when the Phantom Thief talked about getting what was his, he meant Vas's gun...
Vas: Don't joke around! I had that gun made-to-order!
Barawa: Hmm. If that was his aim, then the situation just took a turn for the worse.
Sarya: What should we do now, Detective?
Barawa: Hmm, well...
Vyrn: How about we find the missing people first?
Vas: I agree. Having my gun stolen seriously hurts, but...
Vas: It should be our top priority to make sure the other passengers are safe.
Barawa: How could this have happened while I was on this ship... As soon as we make sure everyone is safe, let's try to find the gun.
Vas: Agreed. This whole affair is getting ridiculous if you ask me.
Therese: ...
Lyria: Oh, Therese!
Vyrn: You feeling all right?
Therese: Y-yes... Cough...
Vyrn: Hey, why's your voice gone all weird?
Therese: Erm, I think I inhaled too much dust in the commotion.
Lyria: Are you okay?
Therese: I'm... fine... Cough...
Therese collapses from exhaustion brought on by fighting monsters released by the Phantom Thief.
The crew resumes searching for the other missing people while looking after the duelist.

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 2: Suspects, Suspects Everywhere - Episode 2

The next missing person to be found is one of the casino's employees. His behavior is a little odd, most likely due to the terror of being chased by monsters.

Barawa: All right, who's left?
Sarya: There shouldn't be that many missing.
Vyrn: How do you know that?
Sarya: A little while ago I made a list of all the people who had evacuated into the room with us.
Sarya: And when you put that together with Christina's ship manifest...
Barawa: Who is missing becomes immediately apparent. Excellent work, Sarya.
Sarya: I was just killing time while we figured out how to escape, but it unexpectedly came in handy!
Bunny Waitress: Oh! There's our missing colleague!
Casino Staff: Lady Christy. I humbly ap0l0gize f0r causing y0u s0 much w0rry.
Casino Staff: Thank y0u.
Christina: You think I was worried about you, you useless lump? I was only worried that there weren't enough workers to look after my guests!
Casino Staff: I sincerely ap0l0gize f0r my failures.
Bunny Waitress: Erm, you know, you seem a bit off.
Casino Staff: It must be a c0ld. C0ugh. C0ugh.
Bunny Waitress: That sounds terrible... Will you be all right?
Vyrn: Let's get a move on already! Time to find the next one!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 2: Suspects, Suspects Everywhere - Episode 3

The final missing person left to be found is Vas's butler, Ettore. A ship-wide search turns up nothing until they hear his scream; Ettore is being attacked by monsters and the crew attempt to save him.

Vyrn: Erm, so who's still left to find?
Vas: My butler, Ettore. We went through hell together. He's not the kind to go down without a fight.
Barawa: Where should we start looking?
Sarya: Judging by the way the monsters are acting, I feel like they don't hurt anyone that's found a place to hide.
Sarya: Or so I think...
Lyria: Now that you mention it, none of the monsters tried to break into the room we were in to attack us.
Barawa: Ahh, of course. That means...
Vyrn: He's hiding in a place we haven't searched yet!
Barawa: Correct. Let's hope he's safe.
Lyria: He's nowhere to be found...
Vyrn: Now that I think about it, this ship is huuuge!
Sarya: But it's not as if he could have gone very far, considering the situation.
Barawa: Good point. He wouldn't know when it was safe to leave his hiding spot with all the monsters running around.
Christina: Humph...
Christina: I don't know where the thieving rat is. But it's been running free on my ship for far too long.
Christina: I will make Chat Noir rue the day he decided to pick a fight with me!
Therese: ...
Man's Voice: Aaah! Help meeee!
Vas: That voice... It's my butler, Ettore!
Barawa: We've finally found him! Quick, we need to help! Let's go, (Captain)!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 2: Suspects, Suspects Everywhere - Episode 4

The search party heads back to the main hall with all missing persons accounted for. Christina explains that the primal beast they had seen earlier was probably Mammon, a being who manipulates desire and leaves calamity in its wake.

Ettore: Thank you for finding me. I can't believe my lord came to look for me...
Vas: Hahaha. Ol' Barawa and (Captain) were with me, so I wasn't completely alone.
Ettore: Thank you, everyone. When the monsters suddenly appeared, I just ran for my life!
Vyrn: It's fine. Me and (Captain) are used to this sort of thing!
Ettore: Oh, I'm sure you are. But anyway, thank you.
Barawa: Hahaha, I'll be reassured after I have ensured your safety.
Sarya: I think we've found everyone who didn't escape with us earlier. Probably.
Lyria: Great! Let's get everybody back to a safe place!
Christina: ...
Vyrn: What's up? Since when have you been the silent type?
Christina: Since that primal beast showed up.
Lyria: As soon as I felt its presence, it instantly disappeared.
Vyrn: Are you worried about it? 'Cause I think we probably should be!
Christina: I think I've seen it before... I think it was Mammon.
Vyrn: Hmm, why do you think that?
Christina: Those in the gambling business know her in some capacity. She's a demon that controls desire.
Lyria: Desire?
Christina: Money, love, and even food are her domain. When you want something badly, fervor builds up inside you, doesn't it?
Christina: This primal beast, Mammon, manipulates this fervor of desire.
Vyrn: So she's like... the casino's resident guardian angel?
Christina: Not exactly. Whenever she pulls the strings of desire, in the end, blood will flow.
Christina: They say that whenever a gambler loses their life through the pursuit of decadence and debauchery, Mammon is to blame.
Christina: I don't know who that thieving rat is, but he has brought that abomination to my Jewel Resort.
Vyrn: I just got chills down to my tail...
Christina: One thing is certain though.
Barawa: Which is?
Christina: The decline in business at the casino is definitely Mammon's doing.
Christina: Unless, of course, a large percentage of my employees have betrayed me, which is impossible.
Vas: I agree. I doubt any of the staff here would even think about betraying Christina.
Christina: Exactly. I have trained them all to only follow orders from me.
Christina: But Mammon fans the flames of greed. What if Mammon is dangling the casino's money in front of them, tempting them to betray me?
Barawa: If their loyalty to you has weakened, then they may have a helping hand in trying to hijack the ship.
Christina: Tch... I think I know which of my toads was seduced by greed, but...
Christina: Who's behind it all? I can't say with certainty.
Lyria: Yes. It feels like a small tear in the heart could turn into something much bigger...
Barawa: You're saying even a little discontent at the Jewel Resort could cause anybody to become the imposter phantom thief?
Lyria: Maybe, but...
Vyrn: All employees grumble from time to time... Even here!
Lyria: Just like you, Vyrn. Every time you come here, you always leave with less, and then you—
Barawa: I see. So Vyrn is one of the suspects.
Vyrn: Hey, knock it off!
Christina: Really? What do you have to say to these allegations, little lizard?
Vyrn: I ain't done nothin'!
Christina: In any case, this is a real mess. So if you do encounter the primal beast again, stay calm and collected.
Christina: If you even show the slightest itch of craving, it may be exploited by Mammon. Don't forget, kittens.
It is said that one who is entranced by Mammon does not choose the method with which to satiate their desire.
Wary that accomplices are hiding under the guise of feigned ignorance among the passengers, the crew returns to the casino hall.

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 2: Suspects, Suspects Everywhere - Episode 4: Scene 2

The crew returns to the casino hall, but Detective Barawa suspects that Chat Noir has disguised himself, posing as one of the three people they had rescued.

Barawa: Ah, we made it back.
Sarya: Phew, it sure is a relief to be back somewhere safe.
Barawa: No, not quite.
Sarya: Detective?
Barawa: There was probably a reason the Phantom Thief trapped us earlier.
Barawa: He must have been preparing a trick in order to try and outsmart us. He's that sort of guy.
Sarya: I agree. He often uses a distraction while he prepares a trick behind the victim's back!
Barawa: Exactly. Chat Noir likes to outsmart people, and disguises are his specialty.
Vyrn: Whatcha tryin' to say, Chairlock Holmes?
Barawa: Other than stealing Vas's gun, he has to have done something else.
Barawa: I thought sending in the machina soldier was his idea, but perhaps it was something... else.
Barawa: He's up to something. You know what I mean, Vyrn?
Vyrn: Uh, no... Why would I?
Barawa: Sarya, what about you?
Sarya: Let me see. Chat Noir is a master of disguises.
Sarya: If he were trying to outwit us, I suppose he could be in disguise right now, hiding among us.
Barawa: Elementary, my dear Sarya. I thought the same thing.
Barawa: He has played a similar trick before.
Sarya: That's right. He has...
Barawa: I learned my lesson. Anybody who's left my sight, even for a moment, is a suspect.
Barawa: In other words, Chat Noir is one of the three people we found!
Barawa: He is in this very room! Is it you, Mr. Employee? Is it you, the butler? Or maybe it's you, the duelist!
Vyrn: What?
Casino Staff: ...
Ettore: ...
Therese: !
Everyone freezes at the detective's unexpected announcement.
Has the great Detective Barawa, through superb and intuitive reasoning, managed to corner Phantom Thief Chat Noir?

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 3: Cat Among the Pigeons - Episode 1

According to Detective Barawa's suspicions, the Phantom Thief is disguised as either the casino staff member, Ettore the butler, or Therese. Ettore is the first to be questioned, and as soon as his interrogation is over, monsters attack.

The great Detective Barawa points his finger first at the casino staff member, then to Ettore, and finally to Therese.
According to his deductions, one of them is actually Chat Noir in disguise.
Barawa: One of you is Chat Noir! Is it you, Mr. Employee? Is it you, the butler? Or maybe it's you, the duelist!
Casino Staff: ...
Ettore: ...
Therese: !
Vyrn: Wait a minute! This is a little crazy, don't ya think?
Lyria: Vyrn's right! How can you think that Therese is the Phantom Thief?
Barawa: I understand where you're coming from, but Chat Noir's disguises are crafty. Don't be taken in.
Sarya: I have a suggestion, Detective.
Barawa: What is it, Sarya? Go ahead.
Sarya: Why don't you question everyone to narrow down the suspects?
Barawa: Good idea. If the Phantom Thief has indeed disguised himself, he is sure to slip up eventually.
Barawa: Ettore, please tell us your version of events first.
Ettore: Me? Very well.
Ettore: I'd be pleased to get this whole business out of the way, so I can go and prepare tea for my lord.
Barawa: Thank you. My first and foremost priority is to clear you from suspicion.
Barawa: So what shall we ask first?
  1. Who are you?
  2. Why did you come to the casino?
  3. Where were you at the time of the incident?
  4. I don't have anything I want to ask...

Choose: Who are you?
Barawa: Ah yes, there might be hidden information we overlooked with regards to that. Good question, (Captain).
Ettore: I see. Well, let me introduce myself then.
Ettore: My name is Ettore. I work as Lord Vas's butler.
Ettore: I take care of all of his needs.
Barawa: What is your connection to Vas?
Ettore: Well, I first met Lord Vas over ten years ago.
Ettore: I've been happily serving him ever since.
Sarya: Over ten years ago, you say...
Ettore: Yes, twelve years ago to be precise. I started doing this job when I was only twenty-four years old.
Vas: That's right. I'm pretty sure the Phantom Thief wouldn't know personal information like that.

Choose: Why did you come to the casino?
Ettore: I accompany Lord Vas where ever he goes.
That includes the Jewel Resort.
Ettore: He would often come here to gamble in his free time.
Christina: That's true. There isn't a soul among the staff who doesn't know Vas.
Ettore: There are even times when Lord Vas is approached by Christina with delicate issues.
Christina: Stop, Ettore.
Christina: To be clear, it was Vas who approached me with his delicate issues.
Christina: But what we did then has nothing to do with Chat Noir.
Christina: So let's forget about that detail, shall we, little kittens?

Choose: Where were you at the time of the incident?
Sarya: The time of the incident... As in the time the rest of us were being chased into a different room by Chat Noir's monsters.
Ettore: The casino hall had filled with smoke and when it cleared, there were monsters everywhere.
Ettore: I ran, not because of a lack of experience fighting monsters, but because there were simply too many!
Ettore: I was so busy running for my life that before I knew it, I was lost!
Ettore: If Lord Vas had met with some unfortunate incident while I was away... I failed you, my lord.
Vas: Stop it, Ettore. All that matters is that you're safe.
Vas: If you were to endanger yourself in order to protect me, it would be too much to bear.
Ettore: Lord Vas... Such kind words... are wasted on me... Sob...

Choose: I don't have anything I want to ask...
Barawa: Are we all done with questioning Ettore, (Captain)?
  1. Finish questioning.
  2. Interrogate further.

Choose: Interrogate further.
Continue 1
Barawa: So what shall we ask about next?
  1. Who are you?
  2. Why did you come to the casino?
  3. Where were you at the time of the incident?
  4. I don't have anything I want to ask...

Choose: Finish questioning.
Barawa: It seems like that's all we have to work with.
Sarya: Was anyone able to make any useful deductions?
Vyrn: Uh... Thinking's not my strong suit...
Barawa: Next up is...
Monsters: ...!
Lyria: Eek!
Vyrn: Whoa! What's going on?
Vyrn: Good timing though! I was getting bored!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 3: Cat Among the Pigeons - Episode 2

Barawa and Sarya think the monster attack shows that Chat Noir is getting impatient. Next up for interrogation is the casino staff member, whose odd behavior and bizarre speech patterns send up red flags of suspicion. When the crew finish their questioning, monsters appear once again.

Barawa: Is it over? I sure wish that dastard would cut it out with the surprises.
Vyrn: That scared me... Phantom Thief's got a mean bag of tricks.
Sarya: Detective, if I may?
Barawa: What is it, Sarya?
Sarya: I have a feeling that monster attack was hastily improvised.
Sarya: Maybe Chat Noir is starting to panic.
Barawa: Elementary, Sarya. If he's trying to disrupt the questioning...
Barawa: My theory that he is among these three here must be correct.
Sarya: Let's be careful when gathering more information so we don't spook Chat Noir.
Barawa: Who's story shall we hear next... How about you, the staff member?
Casino Staff: Yes, sir.
Barawa: What should we ask first?
  1. Who are you?
  2. Why did you come to the casino?
  3. Where were you at the time of the incident?
  4. I don't have anything I want to ask...

Choose: Who are you?
Casino Staff: I am an empl0yee 0f this casin0.
Barawa: What does that job consist of?
Casino Staff: Card dealing, h0use cleaning, c0ncierge... I d0 whatever is needed.
Sarya: Hmm, incidentally, when did you start working at the casino?
Casino Staff: I d0 n0t remember when I started here. Time had passed s0 quickly bef0re I knew it.
Sarya: Hmm, (Captain), don't you think the way he's talking is a little suspicious?
  1. Press him.
  2. Leave it alone.

Choose: Press him.
Sarya: Erm, there's something about your voice...
Casino Staff: I have acquired, unf0rtunately, a c0ld. And the c0nditi0n 0f my thr0at is n0t g00d. C0ugh. C0ugh.
Sarya: Yes, but I meant the way you speak is... unique.
Casino Staff: That is h0w we speak in my birthplace.
Sarya: And may I ask where that might be?
Casino Staff: Um... Eh...
Casino Staff: I f0rg0t. C0ugh. C0ugh.
Sarya: Even though you were born there?
Barawa: (That's enough, Sarya. Sometimes if you push somebody too far, it can have the opposite effect of what you want.)
Sarya: (You're right. It's better if he doesn't think we suspect him.)

Choose: Leave it alone.
Sarya: (This employee seems very suspicious.)
Sarya: (But it might be a good idea to let him think we don't suspect him.)
Barawa: (True. If you push somebody too far, it can have the opposite effect of what you want.)

Choose: Why did you come to the casino?
Casino Staff: T0 w0rk 0f c0urse.
Sarya: Why did you decide to work at the Jewel Resort specifically?
Casino Staff: I wanted Lady Christy t0 n0tice me with her kind and lusci0us heart.
Casino Staff: Thank y0u.
Christina: How can you say something so ridiculous at a time like this?
Christina: I don't recall ever teaching my toads to act like this.

Choose: Where were you at the time of the incident?
Casino Staff: I received 0rders fr0m my master—
Sarya: Your master? You mean Christina?
Casino Staff: I did n0t say that. C0ugh. C0ugh.
Casino Staff: Um... When the m0nsters came int0 the hall, I was 0n a break.
Casino Staff: N0, wait... I was definitely thinking ab0ut g0ing t0 buy supplies.
Casino Staff: In any event, I was n0t in the hall.
Barawa: Thank you. That's enough.
Sarya: Detective, there is something wrong with this person.
Barawa: I'm pretty sure everything is wrong with this person.
Barawa: But one thing stands out like a sore eyeball.
Sarya: The part where he said "orders from my master", right?

Choose: I don't have anything I want to ask...
Barawa: Are we all done with questioning?
  1. Finish questioning.
  2. Interrogate further.

Choose: Interrogate further.
Continue 1
Barawa: So what shall we ask about next?
  1. Who are you?
  2. Why did you come to the casino?
  3. Where were you at the time of the incident?
  4. I don't have anything I want to ask...

Choose: Finish questioning.
Barawa: Well, we better not push too hard on that point.
Sarya: Yes. I agree.
Sarya: Let's get the information out of him little by little. Then we can tie it all together into conclusive evidence.
Sarya: I've never met such a suspicious person.
Vyrn: Yup. As bad as they come.
Barawa: Now on to—
Monsters: ...!
Casino Staff: Aaah! M0nsters! M0nsters! Help meeee!
Vyrn: What! They're after the worker dude!
Barawa: This is bad. Were our suspicions turned against us, and now he's trying to erase this guy?
Sarya: What should we do?
Vyrn: Let's just beat them up for now. Watch out though! They seem stronger than the last ones, (Captain)!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 3: Cat Among the Pigeons - Episode 3

Last up for interrogation is the bunny waitress, Therese. After hearing the testimonies of the three suspects, Barawa and Sarya initiate Operation Bag the Chat.

Barawa: Phew, it's one thing after another! This may well be the biggest challenge that I, the great Detective Barawa, have ever faced.
Sarya: This is the first time that Chat Noir has ever used such violent methods.
Vyrn: You think the Phantom Thief is getting desperate? I mean, why's he doing this to us?
Sarya: Chat Noir's motives are unclear.
Sarya: But it's my opinion that he's not here simply to steal something.
Sarya: It's more like he's out to grab the world's attention.
Vyrn: Huh? So you're saying he's just a big showboat?
Sarya: I don't have any proof to back it up though. Just a woman's intuition.
Therese: It's best not to completely ignore that intuition though.
Christina: I agree. I've seen many a dealer fall when luck favors that intuition. Truly a terrifying sight...
Barawa: That's enough small talk. Therese, it's time for your questioning.
Therese: M-me?
Barawa: I'm sorry, but we have to question everyone who didn't escape with us.
Christina: Very well. While you may have been fighting the monsters to ensure the safety of the guests, we must do this by the book.
Christina: Prove your innocence, Therese.
Therese: I understand.
Barawa: What shall we ask?
  1. Who are you?
  2. Why did you come to the casino?
  3. Where were you at the time of the incident?
  4. I don't have anything I want to ask...

Choose: Who are you?
Therese: I'm a bunny waitress.
Therese: My job is to entertain the casino guests in the main hall.
Sarya: I see, and what does that entail?
Therese: I sometimes play cards with the guests.
Barawa: Hm, there doesn't seem to be anything particularly suspicious here.
Vyrn: Huh?
Lyria: I think something's not quite right about what she's saying though...

Choose: Why did you come to the casino?
Therese: The glitz and glamor of a place like the Jewel Resort has always had a special place in my heart.
Therese: I told myself when I grow up, I want to make sure everyone enjoys playing cards. So I studied the rules for all sorts of casino games.
Sarya: Was your original aim to become a card dealer?
Therese: Hehe. Yes, actually.
Therese: Oh, but that doesn't mean I'm unhappy being a bunny waitress. I hop along with pride.
Therese: Making sure the guests enjoy their games is fun too!
Lyria: Therese, what are you saying?
Vyrn: Earlier you were super embarrassed to be dressed as a bunny...

Choose: Where were you at the time of the incident?
Therese: When the terribly scary monsters came into the hall... I was so terrified.
Therese: I grabbed a sword, but it might as well have been a prop.
Therese: I couldn't stop shaking. All I could do was hop around in a panic.
Vyrn: Therese, have you lost your marbles?

Choose: I don't have anything I want to ask...
Barawa: Are we all done with questioning Therese, (Captain)?
  1. Finish questioning.
  2. Interrogate further.

Choose: Finish questioning.
Sarya: That's about as far as we go.
Barawa: So... That was suspicious...
Sarya: Agreed, but it was a completely coherent testimony...
Sarya: Still, I have a bad feeling about this.
Barawa: What?
Sarya: Keeping your opponent's attention in one place while you prepare something elsewhere is a common trick.
Sarya: That's what worries me. This interrogation could be part of Chat Noir's trap.
Barawa: I see. Then we should speed things up.
Sarya: Right. Let's resolve this before Chat Noir can make a move.
Barawa: (Captain), things are going to get a little... rough.
Vyrn: What? Rough? Whaddya mean?
Barawa: It's time to capture the thief! Initiate Operation Bag the Chat!
Vyrn: Uh... That came out of left field...
Barawa: Exactly. He won't be expecting this either.
Sarya: The Phantom Thief is one of the three people we just interrogated. That much is certain.
Barawa: We'll force the Phantom Thief to expose himself with the testimonies and capture him here and now!
Sarya: The Phantom Thief is a formidable opponent. (Captain), please lend us a hand.
Lyria: Oooh... This is getting tense!
Sarya: Chat Noir likes to toy with people by moving quickly and playing tricks.
Sarya: However, it's likely that he's lacking in combat ability.
Barawa: He compensates for this inadequacy with his mechanical minions.
Sarya: They are never far from Chat Noir. In fact there's probably one in this very room.
Sarya: In other words, we should bear in mind at least one of the suspects is a machine.
Sarya: But taking it a step further, I have deduced that there is probably only one.
Sarya: The minions need to mimic skydwellers so well that it wouldn't be possible for him to have prepared multiple others.
Sarya: Therefore there is only one innocent person here. Use the evidence we've gathered to bring both Chat Noir and his machine minion to justice!
Barawa: Be careful not to hurt the innocent person. That'll just give the real culprits a chance to escape.
Barawa: If that happens, all the investigating we've done so far will have been for nothing. Judge carefully, (Captain).
Barawa: Although sometimes battle can make things clearer, maybe it's better to recap the testimonies before you start.
Sarya: I've noted down all of the suspects' testimonies. Would you like to review any of them?
  1. See Ettore's testimony.
  2. See the staff member's testimony.
  3. See Therese's testimony.
  4. I've already heard enough.

Choose: See Ettore's testimony.
Barawa: So what shall we ask first?
  1. Who are you?
  2. Why did you come to the casino?
  3. Where were you at the time of the incident?
  4. I don't have anything I want to ask…

Sob...

Choose: I don't have anything I want to ask…
Barawa: Are we all done with questioning Ettore, (Captain)?
  1. Finish questioning.
  2. Interrogate further.

Choose: Interrogate further.
Continue 2
Barawa: So what shall we ask about next?
  1. Who are you?
  2. Why did you come to the casino?
  3. Where were you at the time of the incident?
  4. I don't have anything I want to ask...

Choose: Finish questioning.
Barawa: It seems like that's all we have to work with.
Sarya: Was anyone able to make any useful deductions?

Choose: See the staff member's testimony.

Continue 4
Barawa: So what shall we ask about next?
  1. Who are you?
  2. Why did you come to the casino?
  3. Where were you at the time of the incident?
  4. I don't have anything I want to ask...

Choose: Finish questioning.
Barawa: Well, we better not push too hard on that point.
Sarya: Yes. I agree.
Sarya: Let's get the information out of him little by little. Then we can tie it all together into conclusive evidence.
Sarya: I've never met such a suspicious person.
Vyrn: Yup. As bad as they come.

Choose: See Therese's testimony.

Therese: I told myself when I grow up, I want to make sure everyone enjoys playing card games.

Choose: I've already heard enough.
Sarya: Are your preparations complete? Shall we commence Operation Bag the Chat?
  1. Let's begin!
  2. I'm not ready yet.

Choose: Let's begin!
Sarya: All right, here we go!
Vyrn: Yeah, let's get him!
Lyria: Okay!

Choose: I'm not ready yet.
Barawa: You want to see the testimonies again? We can't afford to take much longer, but I think we can swing that.

Ettore: ...
Therese: !

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 3: Cat Among the Pigeons - Episode 3: Scene 2

(Captain) and the crew knock out the completely innocent Ettore. Amid the chaos, the Phantom Thief's minion reveals itself and begins rampaging violently.

Ettore: Aaargh!
Sarya: E-Ettore? Are you okay?
Casino Staff?: Groooar!
Barawa: It's shown it's true colors!
Sarya: Oh no! Chat Noir is escaping!
Barawa: Blast my horns! And we had him cornered too!
Chat Noir: Heh heh heh. Commendable. You narrowed down the suspects to a point.
Chat Noir: But your endgame leaves much to be desired.
Sarya: How could this be? I'll need to consider how my reasoning was flawed after—
Barawa: Enough! For now we do whatever it takes to capture the Phantom Thief!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 3: Cat Among the Pigeons - Episode 3: Scene 3

(Captain) and crew have been one step behind Chat Noir. Can they catch him here and end his game?

Chat Noir: Bah... How did you see through my impeccable disguise?
Barawa: Haha! I could have seen through your trick blindfolded! Or did you forget who I am?
Chat Noir: I see. The only man who managed to finally corner me, the Phantom Thief, is you. Well done.
Sarya: This is where we usually explain the reasoning that led us to you, but...
Barawa: First we take you into custody! This is it for you!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 3: Cat Among the Pigeons - Episode 4

Chat Noir reveals his presence to all, deftly dodging detainment. As the crew give chase, a machina soldier appears and blocks their way, setting the stage for a violent showdown.

Christina: Tell me something. What did you come here for?
Chat Noir: It's just as I wrote in my letter. I came to get my treasure back.
Christina: You've had your fun on my ship, rat... Now prepare to have the life whipped out of you.
Chat Noir: Heh heh... Who ever heard of a Phantom Thief that dwelled on the troubles of others?
Chat Noir: I'll disappear once I've finished my job here. Besides, there's nothing else I want.
Chat Noir: And I'm sure you will reap the benefits, Christina.
Christina: What did you say?
Chat Noir: And with that, I think I'll take my leave.
Barawa: Stop! I won't let you escape!
Casino Staff?: !
Sarya: Watch out!
Chat Noir: Ah, yes... Time to reveal who that casino staff member really is.
Machina Soldier: !
Chat Noir: You would have had me if not for the machina soldier activating at just the right moment!
Chat Noir: It's the oldest trick in the book, but you were quite sharp to notice it. You have sound intuition.
Chat Noir: However, I guess it wasn't enough to sniff out what I had prepared.
Chat Noir: Normally I eschew inelegant methods as it clashes with my creed.
Chat Noir: Unfortunately I cannot afford to be caught. My pride as a thief is at stake! Adieu.
Barawa: You're not getting away!
Phantom Thief's Voice: Hahaha. A valiant effort. It seems you really are my greatest rival after all, Detective.
Machina Soldier: !
Vyrn: Great apples of fire! Time to get serious!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 3: Cat Among the Pigeons - Episode 4: Scene 2

While the crew battles the machina soldier, Chat Noir escapes. Sarya recalls the remarks Chat Noir made about his pride and speculates about his reasons for coming to the casino liner.

Machina Soldier: !
Vyrn: That was bad... Are you hurt, Chairlock Holmes?
Barawa: I-I'm fine... But he got away.
Sarya: We were so close...
Ettore: That was Phantom Thief Chat Noir? How terrifying.
Christina: Damn him! What has that fiend done with the real Therese and the others?
Christina: Laying a hand on my toads is unforgivable!
Sarya: Therese is definitely safe. Chat Noir wouldn't stoop to something that low.
Sarya: Isn't that right, Detective?
Barawa: Definitely. But right now, taking out these dangerous machina soldiers is our top priority.
Barawa: Why has Chat Noir changed his methods so drastically?
Sarya: Earlier he mentioned his pride.
Sarya: I thought he meant the pride of having never been caught, but...
Sarya: Maybe he just wants to protect the idea of who Phantom Thief Chat Noir is instead.
Barawa: Hmm... The idea...
Phantom Thief Chat Noir defied his own principles just to escape.
What exactly is he trying to protect?

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 4: A Smile Crack'd from Side to Side - Episode 1

Vyrn wonders why Barawa isn't taking a more proactive role in the investigation. Feeling the pressure from those around him, Barawa takes the reins, determined to find any clues left behind by Chat Noir.

Unfortunately Chat Noir always seems to be one step ahead of the crew.
They pull themselves together, and vow to pursue the Phantom Thief, when a question is abruptly voiced.
Vyrn: Question... Why is the assistant figuring out more stuff than Chairlock Holmes?
Barawa: What?
Lyria: Come to think of it, I also feel like Sarya is solving most of this mystery...
Vas: Hahaha. They're calling you out, Barawa. What do you have to say for yourself?
Barawa: Hmm, well... Uh... In a sense, it's part of my mentoring style. A kind of hands-on training if you will...
Barawa: Seeing her figure out a mystery of this magnitude all by herself, it kind of makes me feel like a proud parent.
Vyrn: That's all nice and dandy, but should a case this big be left to the assistant?
Vyrn: The Phantom Thief's never used anything as dangerous as machina soldiers before, right?
Barawa: Um, you could say that, yes...
Vyrn: And you said you've got that dastard right where you want him, didn't you?
Vyrn: So go on, Chairlock Holmes. Take on this Phantom Thief guy and solve this mystery, lickety-split!
Barawa: Right...
Lyria: Ahaha... You're really getting into this, Vyrn.
Vyrn: Duh... I kinda wanna see the famous detective catch the bad guy! Is that too much to ask?
Lyria: Hehe! Good point. I do too!
Barawa: Hahaha. You two see the world through such innocent eyes.
Vas: Barawa, old boy, the children have high expectations of you. You can't escape from this one!
Barawa: Yeah... They've got me.
Barawa: Right then! I'll show you kids how to solve a mystery Detective Barawa style!
Barawa: So first of all, you gather the evidence.
Barawa: Judging by the Phantom Thief's actions so far, he's bound to have left clues at the scene of the crime. You can bet on that.
Sarya: That's right. Just keep in mind there might also be red herrings in addition to really important evidence.
Barawa: In any case, there's nothing to lose by checking. Let's go, (Captain)!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 4: A Smile Crack'd from Side to Side - Episode 2

The party finds clue after clue left behind in various areas of the casino liner. Once all the clues have been assembled, they spell out a hidden message mocking Barawa, sending him into a tizzy.

Vyrn: Hey, hey, Chairlock Holmes! Is this evidence?
Barawa: Is this... a flower?
Sarya: Wasn't this used to decorate the lounge?
Barawa: Interesting... What would a flower from the lounge decorations be doing here so conspicuously? Suspicious...
Sarya: I feel like a flower embodies the debonair charm and elegance that Chat Noir is so fond of.
Barawa: You do have a point. This is probably something the Phantom Thief would like.
Barawa: Good job, Vyrn. Let's hold on to this as evidence.
Barawa: Sarya! Keep note of all the evidence we discover in the investigation record.
Sarya: On it!
Lyria: Wow! That was amazing, Vyrn!
Vyrn: Heh! A Vyrn's gotta do what a Vyrn's gotta do!
Barawa: We keep discovering more and more suspicious things.
Sarya: Aside from the flower from earlier, we have found four other things so far.
Sarya: Going in order, we've found okra and oatmeal in the bathroom and...
Sarya: A lamp used to light the casino halls, and finally a saw.
Barawa: They all seem to have been stolen from elsewhere on the ship.
Barawa: Maybe they're hiding a message from the Phantom Thief!
Vyrn: None of this makes any sense. I have no idea what the Phantom Thief is trying to tell us!
Barawa: Hmmm, there must be some way to decrypt this code.
Barawa: For example, maybe we could take the first letter of each item in the order we found them...
Barawa: Flower... Okra... Oatmeal... Lamp... Saw...
Barawa: F... O... O... L... S...
...
FOOLS...
Barawa: How dare he!
Sarya: Ahaha... He got us again...
Vyrn: What is he, ten?
Barawa: That little... Why does he waste my time!
Barawa: Let's go, Vyrn. This time I'm going to yank him out of his hole by the tail!
Vyrn: R-right...

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 4: A Smile Crack'd from Side to Side - Episode 3

Barawa decides to call it quits after falling for Chat Noir's childish traps one after another. At that moment, Chat Noir reappears again to affirm that Barawa is his rival, before loosing another machina soldier on the crew.

Barawa: Show your face, Chat Noir!
Lyria: Oh my... Barawa's really upset...
Vyrn: I'd be mad too after doing all that detective work only to be made a fool of...
Sarya: Honestly this is more in line with Chat Noir's style than anything we've seen so far.
Vyrn: Huh? What do you mean?
Sarya: You see, it's Chat Noir's modus operandi. He may use monster minions, but...
Sarya: Most of what he does is no different from a child getting into mischief... See?
Barawa: Agh! Who did this? Why did a blackboard eraser just bonk me on the head!
Barawa: Followed up by a blast from a water gun? Seriously?
Barawa: Ugh! Now there are bugs falling from the ceiling! Sarya, get them off of me! Saryaaa!
Vyrn: Whoa... You don't see that every day.
Lyria: They really do resemble childish pranks.
Sarya: This time Chat Noir seems to be acting even more infantile than usual.
Sarya: That's why I find it a little hard to believe he sent out those machina soldiers.
Vyrn: You think the pride he talked about has got somethin' to do with the change in his MO?
Sarya: You could be on to something. He wasn't calm or collected after being exposed...
Sarya: Why did you stop all of a sudden, Detective? Is something wrong?
Barawa: My spirit is broken.
Lyria: Wha?
Vyrn: It's kinda early to be giving up already, Chairlock Holmes...
Barawa: Nope. I'm done.
Sarya: Wh-what are you talking about?
Barawa: This sort of nonsense is not worth my time. I'm leaving.
Sarya: What about Therese and the others? What about Vas's gun?
Barawa: I've had enough!
Sarya: Your erratic outbursts aren't helping anybody! Please stop!
Vyrn: Well, let's just get back to it after Chairlock Holmes takes a chill pill—
Barawa: No means no! I've already made up my mind.
Sarya: But... you've never just given up before.
Barawa: Sarya... I think you can do this alone.
Barawa: Insight, intelligence, intuition... You've got it all. You're a much better detective than me in every way.
Sarya: ...!
Barawa: It's up to you now.
Sarya: You're being ridiculous!
Barawa: !
Sarya: You're not allowed to give up! The detective I know would never do that!
Barawa: Sarya...
Sarya: Who's going to stand up to the Phantom Thief if you don't?
Sarya: Think about how the Phantom Thief feels!
Barawa: Huh? How the Phantom Thief... feels?
Sarya: You're the only person who has managed to corner Chat Noir!
Barawa: But that was just dumb luck!
Sarya: I know that!
Sarya: I figured it out!
Sarya: Cornering Chat Noir was a fluke, and I know you're covering that up when you call yourself "Great Detective"!
Barawa: Ngh... If I'm such a fraud, then why bother following me around!
Sarya: That's...
Sarya: That's not what we're talking about right now! At least as far as the Phantom Thief is concerned!
Barawa: Huh? Sarya, what exactly are you trying to say?
Sarya: By the Astrals... Do I have to spell it out for you?
Sarya: Haven't you noticed? The letters the Phantom Thief sends you, and only you, always have a slightly different perfume on them.
Barawa: What? The perfume changes?
Sarya: You're special, Detective. Special to Chat Noir!
Sarya: Even if you're a fraud who's only great in name, you cornered him once! That makes Chat Noir your destined rival!
Barawa: Impossible... There's no way he truly thinks of me that way.
Sarya: I know he does. Call it... intuition.
Sarya: Think about it. He thinks up all these riddles just for you, and he meticulously prepares all these surprises.
Sarya: Why do you think he sends you all those letters sprayed with perfume?
Sarya: I know he's never written it explicitly, but it's laced with feelings of endearment, just like a love letter!
Sarya: How can you abandon the Phantom Thief after all the trouble he's gone through just for you!
Barawa: Sarya... I...
Chat Noir: Ahem.
Barawa: You!
Sarya: It's the Phantom Thief!
Vyrn: Th-that's the guy?
Chat Noir: Correct. This is the first time I've revealed myself to you, (Captain), Vyrn, Lyria.
Barawa: What are you doing here, you dastard? Turning yourself in?
Chat Noir: Hah... You wish.
Chat Noir: Your assistant, the one you call Sarya, had some interesting things to say back there.
Chat Noir: I can't let her continue filling your head with those ideas.
Chat Noir: It is true though that I hold you in special regard, Detective.
Chat Noir: I need you to accept that we are indeed destined rivals.
Barawa: You came out of hiding just to say that?
Chat Noir: Heh heh heh. Well, there is one more thing that piqued my interest...
Chat Noir: You three. (Captain), Vyrn, and Lyria.
Vyrn: Us?
Chat Noir: I want to thank you for your participation in my game. I've had a gleefully, gay time. Adieu.
Vyrn: Yikes! Cough... Cough... Not the smoke screen again!
Barawa: Watch out! Something's coming!
Machina Soldier: !
Vyrn: Blazing sky apples! It's another one!
Vyrn: What part of this is "childish mischief"?
Vyrn: Let's take care of this bot, (Captain)!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 4: A Smile Crack'd from Side to Side - Episode 4

Chat Noir's perfume-scented calling card is left behind after the crew defeats the machina soldier, causing Barawa to realize a message may have been left behind when Vas's gun was stolen. They discover that Chat Noir has returned Vas's gun back to his room, but they're attacked before they can deduce much else.

Barawa: That dastard... making fools of us with a surprise attack.
Sarya: I got the impression that he came for another reason. Again, just a guess though...
Barawa: Hmmm...
Lyria: Erm, the machina soldier left something behind.
Vyrn: Huh, what is it? Some kind of potion? It dropped lots of them!
Lyria: You know, something smells really nice...
Barawa: Could it be... perfume?
Sarya: The bottles were definitely left behind by the Phantom Thief, but that smell...
Vyrn: Is it the special one Chat Noir uses for Chairlock Holmes?
Sarya: No, this is the standard perfume he uses normally.
Vas: I see... So this is the Phantom Thief's smell...
Barawa: Hmm, if you think about it...
Sarya: What is it?
Barawa: He keeps intentionally leaving evidence here and there...
Barawa: Was there any evidence left behind when your gun was stolen, Vas?
Vas: Such as?
Barawa: Perhaps a letter like the ones we found before?
Vas: N-no... I didn't see one.
Barawa: I see...
Sarya: I hadn't thought of looking for a letter. Good catch.
Barawa: The calling card from before, did it say anything about the gun?
Vyrn: We wouldn't have missed that...
Barawa: I just can't believe the Phantom Thief would have stolen the gun without so much as a peep.
Barawa: He ought to have left Vas some sort of message.
Sarya: Maybe he left something in Vas's suite.
Vas: But, when I left, there was nothing in there.
Sarya: It might have been easy to overlook. Are you definitely sure there was nothing?
Vyrn: Uh... How about we stop asking questions...
Vyrn: And just go look in Mr. Moneybags's room?
Sarya: Great idea. Maybe if we sweep his room, we might learn something new.
Barawa: I'm sorry to ask this of you, Vas. But could you please take us to your room?
Barawa: If he did break in, he would've left something behind to mock us.
Barawa: Okay, mister. If that's how it's going to be, then I'll play your fool.
The crew steps into Vas's suite to investigate, keeping a watchful eye out for any traces left by the Phantom Thief.
Sarya: Nothing here in particular stands out to me as a message from the Phantom Thief.
Barawa: Incidentally... Vas, do you always lug that gun of yours around with you?
Vas: N-no... I normally keep it in this box.
Vas opens the gun case as he speaks.
Vyrn: Huh, isn't that the gun right there?
Lyria: But why is it inside the case?
Sarya: This is unexpected. A Phantom Thief who returns stolen goods?
Barawa: Unexpected is right. I've never seen that gun case before.
Machina Soldier: !
Vyrn: Yikes. We've got another mech-dude up in here!
Barawa: Just when things were looking up...
Sarya: Yes, these machina soldiers keep conveniently appearing whenever we find something useful.
Vyrn: We'll deal with these guys faster than I can eat an apple!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 4: A Smile Crack'd from Side to Side - Episode 4: Scene 2

The crew defeats the machina soldier, but Vas has now disappeared. What could have happened to him?

Machina Soldier: !
Vyrn: Yipes! It's getting back up!
Mammon: ...
Lyria: Vyrn, look! A primal beast!
Vyrn: What! It's back again?
Mammon emerges from a dazzling light and thwarts the attacking machina soldier.
The crew remain vigilant as they watch Mammon advance toward the machina soldier.
She gently brushes the machina soldier with her fingertips. The machine disintegrates into countless gold coins which are then sucked into Mammon.
Vyrn: Wh-what just happened? It disappeared with the machina soldier just like last time.
Barawa: Is that primal beast after machina soldiers?
Lyria: It didn't seem like it to me...
Sarya: They do call her the demon of desire. Do you think she's after Vas's gun?
Barawa: Hmmm, in any case, let's keep the gun locked away securely.
Sarya: We wouldn't want to damage it.
Barawa: Vas, about the traces of the Phantom Thi—
Barawa: Huh? Where'd he go?
Lyria: Now that you mention it, I didn't notice he'd been missing.
Sarya: Did he get kidnapped by Chat Noir while we were busy fighting the machina soldier?
Barawa: Blast my horns! I can't catch a break!
Vyrn: It might have been the imposter Phantom Thief...
Barawa: Damn it! There's strange things happening left, right, and center!
Vas's gun has been returned to his suite, but in exchange Vas has vanished.
Where could he have gone? And what is the Phantom Thief after?

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 5: Wine Will Tell - Episode 1

The crew goes around the ship to ask people if they have seen Vas. One witness states that soup was accidentally spilled on Vas, but Vas was in too much of a hurry to care.

Vas's gun, supposedly stolen by Chat Noir, is back in rightful hands.
Ironically, Vas has disappeared.
Sarya: I don't think he's in this room.
Barawa: Doesn't seem like it. Damn it, Vas...
Vyrn: Hey, hey. I found a note thingy in the corner of the room!
Barawa: Let me see that! Gah! That smell...
Sarya: I thought I smelled something weird. It must have been coming from that.
Vyrn: There's a whole bucket of perfume on this. I think my nose is going to fall off.
Sarya: There's so much perfume spilled on this that I can't make out what it says.
Barawa: Do you think the Phantom Thief panicked? I've never seen a note left behind like this before.
Sarya: Most likely... This is a first in terms of sloppiness for the Phantom Thief.
Barawa: What is going on with him?
Barawa: Anyway, let's go and look for Vas. What could have happened to my old friend...
Sarya: Do you know when he went missing?
Barawa: No idea! When I turned around, he was already gone.
Sarya: Then it's going to be quite difficult for us to narrow our search.
Barawa: I have a feeling this will be an uphill battle.
Barawa: Hey, you! Have you seen Vas?
Casino Staff: Lord Vas? I saw him just a while ago.
Sarya: And where was that?
Casino Staff: Near the hall. Lord Vas was in a hurry and crashed into me.
Casino Staff: I was carrying some soup, and I spilled it all over him. I felt terrible.
Sarya: Soup...
Casino Staff: The soup stained his clothes, so I offered to have them washed for him, but...
Casino Staff: Whatever he was doing must have been extremely important because he didn't even listen and just ran off.
Sarya: Did you notice anything else?
Casino Staff: No, that's it. Though there's a chance I may have overlooked something.
Sarya: I see, thank you very much.
Lyria: Hmmm, I wonder where Vas was going in such a hurry...
Barawa: He couldn't have gotten far. Let's search inside the casino first.
Barawa: I owe him big. If anything has happened to him, there will be hell to pay! Let's go!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 5: Wine Will Tell - Episode 2

Another witness reports seeing Vas change out of his dirty clothes and dash away, leaving the old clothes behind.

Sarya: It seems there were others who've seen Vas.
Barawa: Let's get their testimonies. Then maybe we can trace his footsteps.
Vyrn: Oh, Mr. Moneybags, where have you gone?
Casino Staff: Lord Vas? Yes, I spoke to him.
Casino Staff: We were in the employee lounge.
Casino Staff: His attire was dirty, and he appeared to be looking for a change of clothes.
Casino Staff: He said he couldn't go back to his room, so I went and found him some clothing similar to what he was wearing.
Casino Staff: He got changed, threw his old clothes on the floor, and left.
Casino Staff: His old clothes? I don't remember much about them, apart from the big wine stain.
Casino Staff: If you don't get wine out fast, it'll stain permanently. That's why I passed the clothes on for cleaning,
Casino Staff: Vas's wallet and room key were in a pocket. I was hoping to get them back to him soon.
Sarya: I see. That is valuable information. Thank you very much.
Sarya: Vas seemed to be in quite a hurry. He's left clues for us to get to him everywhere.
Barawa: If we follow this trail, we'll find Vas.
Sarya: Exactly. No time for chitchat! Let's move!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 5: Wine Will Tell - Episode 3

A casino employee says that Vas was soaked in water after tripping over a cleaning bucket, and a lounge worker confesses to accidentally spilling wine on Vas. Armed with these testimonies, the crew tries to make sense of why Vas was in such a rush.

Casino Staff: Are you looking for Lord Vas? So am I!
Vyrn: Whoa! It's called personal space! Get back!
Sarya: Why are you looking for Vas?
Casino Staff: Well, I was preparing to clean up the mess made by those rampaging monsters.
Casino Staff: I put my bucket down in the hallway, but then Lord Vas charged through and tripped over it.
Casino Staff: He had himself a little shower. He was just soaked.
Vyrn: Dude sure is careless.
Casino Staff: I tried to apologize, but he wasn't having it. He just ran off to wherever.
Sarya: Where did this collision with the bucket occur?
Casino Staff: Umm, near the storeroom where the cleaning supplies are kept.
Barawa: I see. Did you happen to notice anything else strange?
Casino Staff: Now that you mention it, I did actually. He had blood on his shirt.
Barawa: What! Was Vas injured?
Casino Staff: Actually, you know, that red stain might not have been blood... Maybe it was wine.
Barawa: Egads! Don't scare me like that!
Casino Staff: Lord Vas? He came through here in a hurry.
Barawa: You saw him with your own eyes?
Casino Staff: Yes. I was offering drinks to the guests in the lounge.
Casino Staff: Lord Vas turned up out of breath and sweating like a waterfall.
Casino Staff: I offered him a glass of wine.
Casino Staff: But in his haste he fumbled with the glass, and his crisp white shirt ended up dyed crimson.
Casino Staff: He was furious, absolutely shouting at the top of his lungs.
Sarya: Of course... the wine stain.
Vyrn: Hmm, we've got a lot of info!
Vyrn: Y'know, I'm starting to sense a theme here. Is he always this careless?
Vyrn: Soup, wine, and a bucket of water. Vas seems really out of it. I wonder what's up with him.
Barawa: Indeed, something is off. The more I hear, the more worried I'm becoming.
Sarya: I think we've managed to determine everywhere Vas has been and everything he's done, don't you?
Sarya: Now that our investigation is over, let's organize the information we've collected.
Vyrn: Yeah, we're moving on to the next stage!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 5: Wine Will Tell - Episode 4

The crew derive Vas's location from the testimonies and head to where they think he is.

Sarya: It looks like we've gathered all the information that's available.
Barawa: I think you're right.
Sarya: Let's summarize the information we've obtained from the witnesses.
Sarya: If we do that, Vas's whereabouts will become clear to us!
Sarya: I've summarized all the witness testimonies relating to the disappearance of Vas.
Sarya: Vas repeatedly had his clothes dirtied, causing him to change them. He left a trail of clues as he headed somewhere.
Vyrn: So if we put the events in order, it should point us to where he is!
Barawa: Correct, Vyrn. Sarya, read the memos you made from the testimonies aloud.
Sarya: Got it. In the order we heard them, the testimonies are...
Sarya: Vas got soup all over him near the main hall. At that time, nothing special stood out to the witness.
Sarya: Vas got changed in the employee break room. The witness noticed that the old clothes had a wine stain on them.
Sarya: Vas tripped over a bucket of water near the storeroom and got soaked. The witness saw a wine stain on his clothes.
Sarya: The witness in the lounge couldn't remember what state Vas's clothes were in when the wine got spilt on him.
Barawa: It seems Vas went to quite a few places: his suite, the lounge, the main hall, the employee break room, and the storeroom.
Sarya: But his room key was in the pocket of the clothes he took off, so it's likely he wouldn't have been able to get into his suite.
Sarya: Unfortunately we're out of witnesses we can question.
Sarya: I think Vas must be either in the lounge, the main hall, the break room, or the storeroom.
Barawa: We'll use these witness testimonies to find his last known whereabouts.
Sarya: I agree. Also, Vas probably went to each of these places only once.
Barawa: Only... If Vas is good at hiding, he could have visited one place twice...
Barawa: We don't have any more witnesses to corroborate, so let's just go with what Sarya said. I don't feel confident though.
Sarya: Where did he go first? The main hall? The break room? The storeroom? The lounge? What do you think, (Captain)?
Sarya: If you want to see the testimony summaries again, tap the Log button at the top right of the screen!
  1. Main hall
  2. Employee break room
  3. Storeroom
  4. Lounge

Choose: Main hall
Sarya: I see... You think he went to the hall first.
Sarya: According to the witness's testimony, the soup she spilled on Vas was dark in color.
Sarya: If he had gone there first, the soup stain would have been mentioned in subsequent testimonies.
Sarya: Just like the wine stain mentioned by other witnesses.
Vyrn: Hm. I think he must have gone somewhere else first. Try thinking about it again, (Captain).

Choose: Employee break room
Sarya: If Vas changed his clothes in the break room first, some of the other testimonies conflict.
Vyrn: Hm. I think he must have gone somewhere else first. Try thinking about it again, (Captain).

Choose: Storeroom
Sarya: But, if that's the case, then the testimonies contradict each other.
Vyrn: Hm. I think he must have gone somewhere else first. Try thinking about it again, (Captain).

Choose: Lounge
Sarya: Yes. The wine stain was mentioned by multiple witnesses.
Sarya: Add the fact that there wasn't anything unusual that stood out about Vas's clothes according to the witness...
Sarya: And that must mean that Vas had yet to visit any of the other places.
Vyrn: Yeah, if Vas's clothes were soaked with water or something like that, the witness in the lounge would have totally remembered.
Sarya: Exactly. So where did he go next?
  1. Main hall
  2. Employee break room
  3. Storeroom
  4. Check the testimonies again.

Choose: Main hall
Sarya: I see... It is possible he went to the hall next.
Vyrn: But didn't the witness there say she didn't notice anything else weird about Vas's clothes?
Vyrn: If he had been covered in wine, the witness would totally have noticed.
Sarya: I think you're right, Vyrn. Maybe we should think of other possibilities.

Choose: Employee break room
Sarya: If he went to change his clothes in the break room next, some of the testimonies will contradict.
Lyria: Oooh, this is so difficult.

Choose: Storeroom
Sarya: Yes. When Vas knocked over the bucket of water, he had a wine stain on his shirt.
Barawa: If we compare the other testimonies, then this must be right.

Choose: Check the testimonies again.
Sarya: You want to see the testimonies again? Here you go.

Continue 3
Sarya: Exactly. So where did he go next?
  1. Main hall
  2. Employee break room
  3. Check the testimonies again.
  4. I'm tired...

Choose: Main hall
Barawa: After that you think he went to the main hall?
Sarya: No, when he was seen there, his clothes did not stand out.
Sarya: He must have gone somewhere else first to be able to blend in again.
Barawa: Well, if it wasn't the main hall, then all that's left is...

Choose: Employee break room
Sarya: That makes sense. Vas's clothes were dirty, so he must have gone there next to change them.
Barawa: After changing in the break room, the last place he went must have been the main hall where the soup was spilled on him.
Vyrn: It's one thing after another...
Lyria: Vas sure was in a big hurry, wasn't he?
Barawa: Yeah... It's hard to imagine what caused him to act that way.

Choose: Check the testimonies again.
Sarya: You want to see the testimonies again? Okay, here you go!
Sarya: Vas got soup all over him near the main hall. At that time, nothing special stood out to the witness.
Sarya: Vas got changed in the employee break room. The witness noticed that the old clothes had a wine stain on them.

Choose: I'm tired...
Sarya: What! B-but you're just one step away from solving this! You're picking up bad habits from the detective!
Barawa: Sarya, you're not holding anything back now, are you?
Lyria: (Captain), don't give up! I believe in you!
Vyrn: Yeah, we're relying on you, (Captain)!
Sarya: Like I said before, you're so close! Just one more step!
Come on!

Continue 4
Barawa: The whereabouts of Vas are now clear!
Sarya: He's hiding somewhere in the main hall!
Vyrn: Let's go look for him!
Barawa: Yes, let's. I don't know what's got him so flustered, but we have to find him before he disappears again.

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 5: Wine Will Tell - Episode 4: Scene 2

As the crew head to the main hall, they hear a gunshot. When they arrive at the scene, they find Vas with Ettore at his feet covered in blood.

The crew closes in on the main hall where Vas is hiding.
Barawa: That sounded like...
Sarya: A gunshot!
Vyrn: Over there!
The crew can feel something sinister emanating from the source of the gunshot as they rush to the scene.
Vas: Barawa, everyone! Something terrible has happened!
Barawa: Vas! I was wondering where in the world you'd gone off to!
Vas: Forget it. I simply remembered something I had to do. But now? It doesn't seem to matter anymore.
Vyrn: Wh-what! That's Old Beardy!
The crew sees the figure of Ettore the butler lying on the ground covered in blood.

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 6: Suicide in Retrospect - Episode 1

An unconscious Ettore clasps Vas's gun after an apparent self-inflicted headshot, leaving behind a note in which he confesses to being the fake Phantom Thief. Saddened by this sight, Vas wishes to be alone while the crew rushes Ettore to the infirmary.

The crew races to find the missing Vas.
However, when they find him, they also see something unexpected.
Ettore, the butler, lies collapsed in a pool of blood with Vas's bejeweled gun in his hand.
For a brief while the crew just stands there, unmoving, stunned in silence.
Vyrn: Old Beardy... Who did this?
Barawa: He's still breathing. His injuries don't seem life-threatening.
Barawa: Hmm, there's blood around the gun's muzzle, and charring around the wound.
Barawa: From these two facts, we can determine that the gun was pressed against his forehead when the trigger was pulled.
Barawa: But fortunately, the bullet ricocheted off his skull, so the wound is shallow.
Barawa: He seems to have lost consciousness, but I think he'll recover quickly.
Vyrn: Wait, what? The bullet ricocheted off his skull? Can that even happen?
Barawa: It depends on the situation. But on rare occasions the bullet can collide with the bone and not penetrate the skull.
Barawa: When I was in the military, I saw a similar scene.
Vas: I see... So he won't die... Thank goodness.
Sarya: Vas, since you found Ettore, can you tell us what happened?
Barawa: I know this is going to be difficult for you to explain, but we need to know what happened.
Vas: I understand. Take a look at this note.
Sarya: This is...
Vas: Ettore's last words.
Barawa: Last words?
Vas: I found it in my room earlier when we were looking for my gun.
Vas: I rushed away as fast as I could to look for him, but I didn't reach him in time.
Vas: When I found him he already had the gun pointed at his forehead, and then he...
Vyrn: No way...
Lyria: Ettore... Why?
Sarya: What does his note say?
Vas: "I am the copycat Phantom Thief."
Barawa: What?
Vas: I was surprised too.
Vas: The rest of the note reads: "As turmoil spreads, I have become aware of the magnitude of my mistakes."
Vas: "I have decided to take responsibility for what I have done and end my own life."
Barawa: Damn it, Ettore. You don't need to die to take responsibility!
Sarya: His injuries are really only very minor. He's very fortunate.
Sarya: Detective, let's get Ettore to the infirmary.
Barawa: Yes. We can hear his story when he wakes up.
Vas: I will leave all of that in your capable hands.
Vas: I am going to return to my suite. Seeing Ettore injured like that... It's hard for me.
Vyrn: I can imagine. Leave this to us! You go and rest.
Vas: Thank you. When my nerves have settled a little, I'll join you in the infirmary.
Lyria: Will Vas be okay?
Barawa: When I was in the military, I learned that sometimes people just want to be alone.
Barawa: Time heals wounds of the heart better than anything.
Sarya: Detective...
Barawa: Anyway, let's concentrate on getting Ettore to the infirmary.
Vyrn: Right. Let's go, (Captain)!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 6: Suicide in Retrospect - Episode 2

All signs point to Ettore being manipulated by Mammon to act as the fake Phantom Thief, and the self-inflicted gunshot was his way of overcoming Mammon's control. However, Lyria voices her argument against that theory, causing Barawa and Sarya to see the truth.

Why has the long faithful Ettore caused such chaos?
While the crew carry the butler to the infirmary, they discuss this question with mournful faces.
The crew concludes that Ettore must have committed the crime after Mammon swayed his mind.
Barawa: Even so, to think the imposter Phantom Thief would try to end his own life.
Sarya: Yes, something about that doesn't feel right.
Barawa: But Ettore surprised me. Even while being controlled by Mammon, he still stuck to his beliefs.
Lyria: I don't know about that...
Vyrn: Lyria? You got a different idea of what happened?
Lyria: Th-that's not what I meant! Um...
Lyria: It's just this strange feeling I can't put into words.
Sarya: Could you try?
Lyria: I just don't believe that Ettore tried to take his own life while under the influence of the primal beast, Mammon.
Barawa: What do you mean? Can you be a little more specific?
Lyria: Mammon's ability is to make desires stronger, right?
Lyria: I got that feeling from her earlier, and it made me think.
Lyria: How could someone have their desires amplified but still try to end their own life?
Barawa: So you don't think Ettore overcame Mammon through the power of his will?
Lyria: Well, it just doesn't make sense.
Lyria: I don't think the power of a primal beast can be resisted through willpower.
Lyria: Unless they're super strong, I guess. But then they should have been able to just defeat Mammon.
Barawa: But don't you remember what Christina said?
Barawa: "In the shadow of the blood that is spilt in the pursuit of desire stands Mammon."
Lyria: Yes, but for somebody in Ettore's situation to point a gun at themselves and fire doesn't add up.
Sarya: So what you're saying is, it's more logical that someone else fired the—
Oh.
Barawa: Oh!
Sarya: Detective! This is not the time to be going to the infirmary!
Barawa: Mm. We've made a terrible mistake.
Sarya: This is what Chat Noir was trying to tell us all along!
Barawa: He really has a roundabout way of doing things!
Barawa: You there!
Casino Staff: Y-yes, sir!
Barawa: Take Ettore to the infirmary for us. He has a gunshot wound, but it's only a minor injury.
Vyrn: H-hey! Where are you two running off to?
Sarya: This is terrible! We were completely and utterly deceived!
Barawa: Blast my horns! We've got to move! This was all a trick, Vyrn! Set up by the real copycat Phantom Thief!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 6: Suicide in Retrospect - Episode 3

Barawa and Sarya conclude that Vas is the true copycat Phantom Thief. Vas breaks under the pressure of the accusation, causing Mammon to surface.

Vyrn: A trick by the real copycat Phantom Thief? Can somebody explain what's going on?
Lyria: Ettore isn't the copycat?
Barawa: I'll explain in detail later!
Sarya: If we don't hurry now, it'll be too late!
Vyrn: Wait up! You're running too fast!
Barawa: We can't let the fake Phantom Thief get away!
Sarya: Exactly!
Barawa: Pant...
Vas: ...!
Barawa, old boy. What's the matter?
Barawa: We need to... have a... little chat...
Vas: Has something happened to Ettore?
Sarya: Yes, Vas. Something has indeed happened to Ettore. There's no doubt about that.
Vas: Has his condition worsened?
Barawa: No, he... We have determined he is not the copycat Phantom Thief.
Vas: Wh-what! Then... Who in tarnation is it?
Barawa: That would be you, Vas.
Barawa: The man who threatened the Jewel Resort under the guise of the Phantom Thief... was you all along!
Vas: Hey now, don't joke around. Ettore is the criminal. He confessed.
Sarya: I don't think he did.
Barawa: Indeed. He was the victim of treachery. A betrayal by you, Vas!
Vas: Don't be ridiculous. He shot himself!
Barawa: He wouldn't do that. No, more like he couldn't.
Vas: Well, why not!
Barawa: Even if Ettore was under the influence of the primal beast Mammon, there is no way he could have done that to himself!
Sarya: This is a sketch of the crime scene. There's something not quite right here that will shed light on the mystery.
Vas: Wh-what!
Sarya: Do you know what's not right about this picture, (Captain)?
  1. Face
  2. Clothes
  3. Hands
  4. Feet

Choose: Face
Vas: Hmm? I can't see anything odd about his face.
Barawa: Me neither...
Vas: Right? He's got one of those faces you seem to see everywhere you go, if anything.
Vas: Being mistaken for somebody else all year round must be incredibly irksome. He said as much.
Sarya: This is neither the time nor the place to talk about that!
Sarya: Look a bit closer, (Captain)!

Choose: Clothes
Vas: Hmm, speaking of clothing... I suppose he doesn't like his uniform much.
Vas: But he said he wouldn't feel right if I gave him clothes that were too nice.
Vas: I thought he was the type to be into trendy clothing, but maybe that wasn't the case.
Barawa: I see. No wonder I thought he looked uncomfortable in them.
Sarya: Moving on! This is neither the time nor the place to discuss that sort of thing!
Sarya: Look a bit closer, (Captain)!

Choose: Hands
Vas: There's something about his hands? They're simply the hands that have always reliably looked after my personal effects.
Barawa: You can't see it, Vas?
Sarya: You had us all fooled. If it hadn't been for something Lyria said, we may have never noticed.
Barawa: And if you had gotten away while we were figuring the mystery out, we would have never been able to catch you.
Vas: I still don't understand why you suspect me.
Sarya: If you think about it rationally, it's impossible for anybody to shoot themselves in the head with this!
Vas: Wh-what?
Sarya: This gun of yours is longer than his arm. If he held it against his forehead, there's no way he could have reached the trigger!
Vas: !
Vas: N-no! He, err, put it in his hand after shooting himself...
Barawa: But, when we found Ettore, he was out cold.
Barawa: Even if he had convulsed terribly after the incident due to shock, there's no way it could have got there.
Barawa: If you try and make an unconscious person's hand hold a gun naturally, it will always look unnatural.
Sarya: So it seems somebody else placed the gun in Ettore's hand to try and make us think he had shot himself.
Sarya: In other words, this may have looked like a suicide, but it is in fact a case of attempted murder!

Choose: Feet
Vas: His feet? What's odd about his feet?
Sarya: Strange thing number one: he's wearing boots.
Barawa: To shoot himself in the head with such a long gun, he would have to pull the trigger using his toes. In boots, that's impossible.
Barawa: He would have sat holding the barrel with both hands, with the muzzle reaching his head, and then with his toes—
Sarya: Bang!
Sarya: If he had done it that way, even if the gunpowder was moist, there's no way he would have failed.
Barawa: If his aim hadn't been off, he certainly would have died.
Barawa: But there is no evidence to support this. And there are many other ways he could have shot himself without using his toes.

Continue 2
Barawa: It is clear from the appearance of Ettore's head wound and the gun's muzzle that he was shot from close range.
Sarya: And that's because of the scorch mark on Ettore's face and also the way the blood has perfectly clotted on the gun's muzzle.
Barawa: However, if he had shot himself in the head, that would have been impossible as I said earlier.
Barawa: The evidence and your testimony clearly contradict one another!
Vas: B-but...
Barawa: I didn't want to believe it.
Barawa: But you're the one who shot Ettore!
Barawa: There are also a few other strange things about this case.
Sarya: For example, the letter we found while searching Vas's suite before.
Sarya: There was so much perfume sprayed on it that the writing had been smudged.
Sarya: So much so we couldn't even tell what was written on it.
Sarya: To someone unfamiliar with the Phantom Thief's letters, it may have looked like a true calling card from Chat Noir himself.
Barawa: But it was the smudging of the ink that drew attention to something about the letter. Can you guess what that is?
  1. The material the note was made of
  2. When the note was written
  3. The intended destination of the note
  4. Where the ink was made

Choose: The material the note was made of
Barawa: From looking at, it I can tell that it's...
Paper.
Sarya: Mm-hm. It is paper.
Vas: And this is meant to clear me of suspicion?
Sarya: No!

Choose: When the note was written
Sarya: Judging from the extent to which the ink has bled...
Sarya: It is highly likely the perfume was applied to this letter before the ink was completely dry.
Sarya: When we found this, it had been drenched in perfume.
Sarya: Something caused the writer to pour the perfume on quickly because it dried soon after we discovered the letter.
Barawa: That means this note was written almost as soon as we entered Vas's suite.

Choose: The intended destination of the note
Barawa: The intended destination? Where were you going to send this note, Vas?
Vas: Why are you asking me! I said I wasn't the copycat Phantom Thief!
Barawa: Ah, I guess my little attempt to get you to admit your guilt didn't work.
Sarya: I thought it was quite clever actually.

Choose: Where the ink was made
Barawa: The specific origin of the ink... Now that is difficult to pinpoint.
Sarya: The composition of the ink is likely to be different depending on where it was made.
Vas: I heard that when you burn the ink, those different components make the flames change color.
Vas: So let's try burning the note.
Sarya: No! This is an important piece of evidence!

Continue 4
Sarya: The fact remains that somebody wrote this note while we were investigating Vas's suite.
Vas: Are you trying to say that person was me?
Sarya: Exactly.
Vas: I think you're grasping at straws.
Barawa: Actually we're not. Er, right, Sarya?
Sarya: Right. We have conclusive evidence.
Vas: Wh-what?
Sarya: Do you know what gave it away, (Captain)?
  1. Vas's facial expression upon entry
  2. Vas's behavior while in the suite
  3. The order everyone entered the suite in
  4. The fact that Vas ran from the room

Choose: Vas's facial expression upon entry
Vas: My facial expression?
Vas: Well, let's test that idea. Sarya, look at my face. What am I thinking right now?
Vas: ...
Sarya: That this is a joke?
Vas: Correct.
Barawa: Aha! So (Captain)'s reasoning was spot on!
Sarya: Not at all...

Choose: Vas's behavior while in the suite
Vas: Hmm, I don't remember saying anything.
Sarya: I don't either.
Sarya: Please stop picking up the detective's bad habits, (Captain). It's distressing.
Barawa: Deal with it. This is just the beginning.

Choose: The order everyone entered the suite in
Vas: The order in which we entered the suite? Who remembers the order?
Sarya: I don't.
Barawa: Same here.
Vas: It seems like (Captain) doesn't know either...
Sarya: Moving on...

Choose: The fact that Vas ran from the room
Vas: Of course I ran. I had to rush off urgently because I found Ettore's suicide note.
Sarya: That's a lie. I'm sure of it. You had another reason to run.
Vas: Go on...
Sarya: At first I didn't understand your behavior.
Sarya: Why you had to leave the suite in such a hurry eluded me.
Sarya: You thought we suspected you of being the copycat Phantom Thief, so you had to throw off our suspicions.
Sarya: But I have news for you.
Sarya: The bottle of perfume you used was tampered with. Chat Noir played a trick on you.
Sarya: It was meant to spill everywhere when used.
Barawa: I see. So that's why the calling card was soaked like that.
Sarya: Now Vas faced a dilemma.
Sarya: Do you know what that was, (Captain)?
  1. His silly hair style
  2. His obvious body odor
  3. His undeniable bulk
  4. His towering height

Choose: His silly hair style
Vas: My hair? Barawa, old boy, do you have a mirror?
Barawa: A mirror? No, but here's a saw I picked it up earlier when the Phantom Thief pranked me It's kind of reflective.
Vas: You never know what comes in handy.
Barawa: Who would've guessed.
Sarya: Um, no, it has nothing to do with his hair...

Choose: His obvious body odor
Vas: I smell? But I shower regularly!
Sarya: We aren't talking about your natural smell, Vas.
Barawa: Ah... If the perfume was designed to spill everywhere, then...
Sarya: The letter wouldn't have been the only thing drenched in perfume.
Sarya: The person who used it would've been drenched too.
Barawa: And obviously you'd suspect someone who smells exactly like the note.

Choose: His undeniable bulk
Vas: My weight? I have been worrying about how my stomach sticks out actually.
Vas: I mean doctors have been saying I'll die an early death if I don't change my ways, but they've been saying that for years!
Barawa: That's tough.
Barawa: I sympathize with Vas, but that has nothing to do with this case.

Choose: His towering height
Vas: My height? I don't see anything wrong there...
Barawa: Well, Vas, you are relatively tall.
Vas: Oh, I see where you're going with this.
Barawa: What?
Vas: The height difference between me and Sarya is the problem.
Barawa: What? Wait! So you're saying... Sarya likes men about the same height as her?
Sarya: Enough!

Sarya: You ran off to get rid of the smell of the perfume you were drenched in before we could notice it.
Sarya: That's why you covered yourself in so many things.
Barawa: Wine, water, soup... It was all to try and cover up the scent.
Sarya: We've talked long enough. I now have quite a roundabout way to prove our suspicions correct.
Sarya: Both your body and the clothes you were wearing should have traces of perfume on them still!
Vas: Wh-what!
Sarya: Perhaps you've tried to wash the scent off, but...
Sarya: It won't work! The Phantom Thief's perfume is not that easy to remove!
Barawa: That's true. Even his calling cards that have been found out in the rain still have the smell.
Barawa: He'd hate to let his perfume wash off with a little splash of water.
Sarya: Just touching a note is enough for the smell to hang around on your hand for days. It lingers on the fingers even more than garlic!
Sarya: Vas, if we were to smell your body...
Sarya: We would know instantly whether or not you are the copycat Phantom Thief.
Sarya: Because nobody other than the one who wrote the fake calling card—that is, the copycat phantom thief—would smell of that perfume!
Vas: Argh!
Sarya: You're out of excuses, Vas.
Sarya: Detective! Please take a big whiff of him!
Barawa: Wh-why me? I can't just go around sniffing another man's—
Sarya: Well, I can't either!
Vas: D-damn...
Vas: Is this the end of the line?
Vas: Hahaha...
Gwahaha!
Lyria: Everyone!
Barawa: What's wrong, Lyria?
Lyria: She's coming—I can feel it! It's Mammon!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Chapter 6: Suicide in Retrospect - Episode 4

It turns out that Mammon had been assuming the form of Vas's gun, and now she manifests into her real form in order to protect Vas. The stage is set for the final battle with this demon of desire.

Lyria: It's Mammon! She's trying to manifest!
Vyrn: Huh! Again?
Lyria: This is her reaction to us cornering Vas.
Lyria: She's trying to protect him!
Vyrn: Let's throw her a big welcome party with lots of pointy things!
Vyrn: Come on, (Captain)! I've had enough talk! I'm in the mood for action!
Mammon: ...
Vyrn: Well, that was weird. Where did that primal beast go?
Lyria: Now it makes sense. Vas's gun is Mammon in disguise!
Vyrn: Disguise? So you can't feel her power when she's in gun mode?
Lyria: That's right. That's how it comes and goes so easily.
Sarya: I see. Mammon appears when you carry that gun.
Sarya: When Vas said the Phantom Thief had stolen it, Vas really just put it back in his suite.
Vyrn: That's all nice and dandy, but the real question is if we defeat the primal beast, will the copycat Phantom Thief be stopped?
Lyria: I think so... If they are acting solely under the influence of Mammon.
Lyria: Then maybe the kind and generous Vas that Barawa knows will return.
Barawa: This is the first time I've ever seen a primal beast up close.
Sarya: Me too. I think it would be wise for us to hide in a safe place...
Barawa: No! We shall not quiver in the shadows! I've been prepared to fight a primal beast since I joined the military!
Barawa: Let's do this, Sarya, (Captain)!

Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident - Ending - Episode 1

Mammon is defeated and Lyria absorbs her power, ending the problems plaguing the Jewel Resort Casino. That is until Barawa and Sarya rush toward (Captain) with yet another invitation from the Phantom Thief.

The crew defeats the primal beast, Mammon.
With Mammon's fall, Vas collapses and loses consciousness briefly.
Vas: Where am I...
Sarya: Hey, he's opening his eyes!
Barawa: Vas, old friend! Are you all right?
Vas: I... The primal beast... She had my heart in her hand... She twisted my mind... I-I'm sorry.
Barawa: Well, I have a bit of good news for you. Chat Noir wrote you a get well card. I'll read it.
Barawa: "Now that this incident has been resolved, I can tell you that I do not blame you for using my name."
Barawa: "But let's not have a repeat of this episode, shall we?
Yours mischievously, Chat Noir."
Vas: I was completely out of control...
Vas: Ahh!
Christina: You were a real pain in the asphalt! You bloated swine!
Christina: Threatening the casino management, using your money to destabilize the casino... Did you think it was funny, pig?
Vas: Ouch!
Vas: I've learned my lesson! Please stop! I-I'll return all my winnings! With interest!
Vas: A-and I'll pay for some new facilities. Just name it, and I'll fund it!
Vas: Whatever you want! Anything! Just name it!
Christina: Oooh... Now we're talking.
And so the threat of both the Phantom Thief and the copycat both disappeared.
Although Vas's mind was not his own when he threatened the casino, plenty of cash was squeezed out of him as punishment.
And for a while, he was even forced to work as a bunny waitress.
Vyrn: Hey, Lyria. I was wondering about something.
Lyria: Hmm, what is it, Vyrn?
Vyrn: You said that Mammon increases desire, right?
Vyrn: After absorbing her, do you feel okay?
Lyria: W-well... My tummy has been feeling super empty for a good while now.
Lyria: I have a strange feeling that I'm going to eat even more than usual at dinner tonight! Hehehe.
Vyrn: Now that she has Mammon with her, she might even try to eat the ship if she gets hungry enough...
Detective Barawa and the Jewel Resort Incident
The End
Sarya: D-Detective! Slow down!
Barawa: Slow down? I'm leaving as soon as I finish packing!
Vyrn: Why are you in such a hurry, Chairlock Holmes?
Barawa: It's the Phantom Thief! He's sent us another letter!
Vyrn: Aww, what? I thought we were done with this...
Barawa: Chat Noir never rests!
Barawa: Lyria! Vyrn! (Captain)! Lend me your help!
Sarya: I also would like to ask for your help. I just have a feeling that things are going to get a little messy.
Vyrn: Why not? Can't really say no, right, (Captain)?
Lyria: Sure! Let's get going, (Captain)!
