Festival of Falling Flame - Opening

While Richard and Therese exchange pleasantries amid the large crowds at the lively festival, Sturm and Drang appear to be plotting something. Behold as fates intertwine on this festive night.

The Festival of Falling Flame... A spectacle that takes place but once a year.
Held in Port Breeze, the festival attracts huge crowds of tourists from all corners of the sky every year.
???: Ahhh! It's been too long. I can't wait to jump into the festivities!
???: My, this place is huge... Makes me kind of nervous.
???: Hmm... How do I get to the Casino Liner from here?
???: Whoa, sorry!
???: ...!
And just like that, the fires of passion are kindled.
???: Oh, I'm so sorry.
???: This... This must be fate!
Sturm: Drang, are you sure there's a legendary primal beast on this island?
Drang: Can't say for sure. But relax—we've got all the bases covered!
Drang: But you know... the fact that we only need to see if it really exists sure makes it seem like we're riding the gravy train.
Sturm: Humph.
It seems that a scheme is afoot.
Lyria: It's festival tiiime!
Lyria: Hey, (Captain), look over there!
Katalina, what is that?
Katalina: Lyria, watch it! You could get hurt running around like that!
Vyrn: Geez, let loose, Katalina. We all know you love festivals just as much as the rest of us. Right, (Captain)?
Katalina: N-nonsense! I'd never be distracted by such frivolities...
Vyrn: Aww, come on! It only happens once a year. You might as well enjoy it!
And so begins a night of revelry at the festival, with excitement, passion, and intrigue in the air.

Festival of Falling Flame - Chapter 1: The Zealous Gambler - Episode 1

(Captain) and company find a notice advertising a free-to-play card game. The moment they learn of the 100,000 rupie grand prize, they quickly make way for the bar to partake in the game.

(Captain) and the crew are among the crowd, enjoying all the fun of the festival.
They happen upon Sierokarte's Knickknack Shack, where business seems to be booming.
Sierokarte: Welcome, everyone who's come to enjoy this wonderful event! Yes, it's the Festival of Falling Flame at last!
Sierokarte: Just for this special day of the year, we have some exclusive wares on offer here at the Knickknack Shack!
Vyrn: Hey, Siero! How's it going?
Sierokarte: Hmm? Oh! If it isn't (Captain) and the crew! Are you enjoying the festival?
Katalina: Yes, but with so much going on, it's hard to decide what we want to see and do.
Sierokarte: I know what you mean. There are so many different things from all corners of the skies here. It's really amazing!
Sierokarte: I mean, just look at all the curios and delicacies... and then there's those exotic monsters from the circus of horrors!
Sierokarte: Not to mention the main attraction this year—the duels being held on the Casino Liner!
Vyrn: There weren't any festivals this massive back on Zinkenstill, were there, (Captain)? Whoo, I'm so psyched!
Vyrn: Huh?
Vyrn: Hey, look over there!
Vyrn points at a notice on the bulletin board advertising a free-to-play card game.
Vyrn: Whoa! 100,000 rupies for the winner?
Vyrn: We should give it a shot!
Katalina: Free? Impossible. There must be some sort of catch—
Lyria: That's amazing! If we win, we can buy all kinds of new weapons, Katalina!
Vyrn: All right, let's give it a go. Come on, (Captain)!
And so the crew make their way toward the tavern in high spirits.

Festival of Falling Flame - Chapter 1: The Zealous Gambler - Episode 2

A thug cons the crew in the game of cards, demanding that they pay him a huge amount of rupies. Thankfully a skilled card player shows up in the nick of time to save the day.

The crew try their hard at the card game, only to face utter defeat.
Thug: Heh heh, all outta luck, huh? Too bad. Now hand over your rupies!
Vyrn: Hey, you cheated us! Besides, there's nothing written here that says we have to pay if we lose!
Thug: Gah ha ha! It's too late to argue now. Ya lost, and now ya owe me 1,000,000 rupies! Gimme the cash and get outta here!
Katalina: What! There's no way we can pay that!
Thug: I don't want your excuses, I want your rupies! If ya ain't got 'em, we're gonna have a problem.
???: Um... Excuse me...
Thug: And who might you be, miss? Can't ya see we're busy here?
Therese: Me? Oh, well, um... I'm Therese.
Therese: But I guess that's not important, really...
Therese: So is it true? Did you really cheat these people?
Thug: And what if I did? Listen, miss. If ya know what's good for ya, you'll scram and forget you saw anything.
???: I'd watch that mouth of yours, good sir. Insulting a lady on top of tricking these innocent travelers... Not a wise choice.
Thug: Mind your own business, pal, unless you're lookin' for a fight.
???: Whoa there! Let's all just calm down now. You look like a seasoned card player, am I right?
???: In that case, why don't you take me on? We can play for this fine crew's debt.
Vyrn: Be careful, this guy's one big cheater!
???: No need to worry, my friend. Not one bit. Just you wait and see.
Thug: Wh-what! That's not right... You had the perfect hand! But... but how?
Richard: My condolences, sir. They do call me Richard the Fortunate. It would seem my luck is too much for even your underhand tactics.
Richard: Alas, what goes around comes around, as they say. I suggest you reflect on your deceitful ways.
Thug: Shut your cake hole, fancypants. No one wants to listen to you!
Thug: I'll make ya regret ever messin' with me!
Richard: You boorish muck! I'll teach you to interrupt a good festival—outside with you!
Therese: C-count me in too...
Richard: Leave it to me, 'kay?
Vyrn: (Captain), we should help him out!

Festival of Falling Flame - Chapter 1: The Zealous Gambler - Episode 3

The crew realizes their card-playing savior, Richard, is nowhere to be seen after defeating the thug at his own game. They look around, when suddenly Richard appears again with a monster on his tail.

Thug: ...!
Katalina: Phew...
Vyrn: All right! Looks like we're done here. Let's get back to town already!
Katalina: Hm? Where did Richard go? I don't see him anywhere...
Vyrn: ...!
Vyrn: He's the one who said to take it outside, but I don't see him out here!
Richard: Help! A m-monster... In the bu-bushes! Help meeee!
Monster: Groaaar!
Vyrn: Huh? Hey, what the! Why're monsters after him?
Katalina: Come on, we have to help him. Let's go!

Festival of Falling Flame - Chapter 1: The Zealous Gambler - Episode 3: Scene 2

Richard explains that he had approached a strange light in the bushes nearby and was attacked by a fire monster. Katalina notes that these monsters are rarely seen in Port Breeze.

Richard: Whew, thanks for saving me...
Richard: And you even took out that trickster for me too? I owe you one.
Vyrn: Sure thing. But what were you doing over there anyway?
Richard: I saw a strange light over in the bushes, so I went to take a look, when all of a sudden... Well, you know what happened next.
Lyria: I'm guessing that's when the fire monster attacked you?
Richard: Yes. It's supposed to be a monster very rarely seen on this island.
Katalina: It certainly had a powerful command over fire. Those creatures are often drawn to bonfires and other large blazes.
Lyria: Wow, you know a lot about them, Katalina!
Katalina: Not at all. That's quite common knowledge, really.
Vyrn: Yeah, but there's no bonfire or anything around here...
Katalina: They wouldn't be so out of place in Valtz, but Port Breeze? Hm...
Lyria: ...
Katalina: Is everything all right, Lyria?
Lyria: Hm... I must be imagining things...
Having taken care of the trickster, (Captain) and company return to town.

Festival of Falling Flame - Chapter 1: The Zealous Gambler - Episode 4

After (Captain) and company arrive back in town, Therese thanks them and walks off as Richard looks on with a passionate gaze; he then asks the crew for a favor.

Vyrn: Phew. We're finally back!
Therese: Oh!
Therese: Um... I just wanted to say thank you... I mean, um, for before...
Richard: Oh, it was nothing. A worthless scumbag like that I can crush with my eyes closed!
Vyrn: ...
Therese: Thanks to your efforts, the town should now be free of cheaters.
Therese: You have my utmost gratitude.
Richard: Hah-hah-hah! Your smile is... ahem, the only thanks I need!
Attendant: Therese! The ferry to the Casino Liner is about to leave. Hurry, or you'll miss it!
Therese: Oh!
Therese: Um, I have to go. Take care. Sorry to have to leave so abruptly.
Richard: Ah, Therese... What a charming woman!
Vyrn: Well, looks like this case is closed. Score one for Team Vyrn!
Vyrn: Now time for us to get on with—
Richard: Hey, you guys!
Vyrn: What now?
Richard: I helped you out of a real bind in this tavern. You remember, right?
Katalina: Well, yes, I suppose you did. What are you getting at?
Richard: Well, life is all about give-and-take, right? With that in mind, I'd like to make a small request of you, if you'll hear me out.
And so the crew successfully deals with the card swindler and fire monsters, thereby protecting the crowds at the Festival of Falling Flame.
Richard gazes passionately after Therese, who hurriedly leaves after giving her thanks. What could he possibly want to request of the crew?

Festival of Falling Flame - Chapter 2: A Fiery Acquaintance - Episode 1

(Captain) and company agree to help Richard become better acquainted with Therese in whatever way they can. Just then an ashen-faced merchant comes running to the crew.

Mixing a bit of hesitation with absolute sincerity, Richard makes his request to the crew.
Katalina: So what did you want to ask of us?
Richard: Ah, yes, of course. The truth of the matter is... Um... Well...
Richard: How shall I put this... I'd like you to help me, well... get closer to that lovely lady, Therese!
Katalina: What?
Richard: I must confess—she stole my heart the moment I laid eyes on her. Without a doubt we were destined to meet this day.
Lyria: Ooh, this could get interesting! I think we should help him out, (Captain)!
  1. This one's for you, Lyria.
  2. Yeah, let's help!

Choose: This one's for you, Lyria.
Lyria: Yay!
Lyria: There's nothing like a good love story, hee hee!

Choose: Yeah, let's help!
Richard: You'll really help? Yes! I knew you would understand!
Continue 1
Katalina: But even if we are going to help, what exactly can we do?
Richard: A good question indeed. Hmm...
Merchant: Hey, you folks are skyfarers, right? I could really use a hand here!
As Richard hangs his head bashfully, an ashen-faced merchant comes running up to the crew.

Festival of Falling Flame - Chapter 2: A Fiery Acquaintance - Episode 2

Upon hearing of the escaped monsters from the circus of horrors, Richard agrees to handle the problem in hopes that it will earn him favor with Therese. Either way, the crew decides the monsters cannot be left to roam free and follow behind the high-stakes gambler.

Merchant: Hey, you folks are skyfarers, right? I could really use a hand here!
Merchant: Some monsters have escaped from our circus of horrors!
Vyrn: What!
Merchant: We managed to get them out of town, but they're lurking around the main gate. Who knows when they might try and break back in.
Merchant: And while they're still there, people leaving town are in danger of being attacked.
Merchant: I can't believe I let this happen. I was sure I had locked their cages...
Merchant: Please, will you help a guy out?
Richard: Aha! This is the perfect opportunity!
Vyrn: Huh? What do you mean?
Richard: If she sees me selflessly helping others, earning the gratitude of the people, she's sure to fall for me!
Richard: A perfect plan!
Richard: Outstanding! Let's hop to it, (Captain)!
Vyrn: Hey, wait up!
Katalina: Well, in spite of his questionable motives, I suppose we can't just leave those monsters to roam free. Come on, let's go!
Unable to contain their curiosity and excitement, (Captain) and company run after Richard.

Festival of Falling Flame - Chapter 2: A Fiery Acquaintance - Episode 3

Lyria notes that the escaped monsters stalking the town entrance aren't usually found around Port Breeze. Richard explains that they were most likely brought from another island because they share a connection to the festival.

The crew arrive at the town entrance and are awestruck by the massive horde of monsters before them.
Katalina: Looks like quite a few monsters got loose. This could be trouble.
Vyrn: We gotta take 'em out before someone gets hurt!
Richard: Hah! Such uncouth beasts could never match me in skill. I shall defeat them for you, Therese, my sweet. En garde!
Lyria: Hmm, you don't often see these kinds of monsters around Port Breeze...
Richard: They're most likely from another island, brought here because they have some kind of connection to the festival.
Lyria: Monsters connected to the festival, huh...
Richard: Well, Port Breeze's Festival of Falling Flame originally comes from an old legend about a powerful fire monster.
Richard: Makes sense that people would bring fire monsters from far away to add to the spectacle.
Vyrn: So what exactly is this whole legend thing with the fire monster?
Richard: Well, I must confess: I myself have only heard it from one of the old-timers who frequents the tavern.
Richard: If his word is to be believed, then the festival is not just connected to any old monster, but a primal beast, no less.
Richard: The legend tells of a mighty primal beast of fire that visits the island but once a year... The immortal Phoenix.
Lyria: Phoenix?
Katalina: Hm, an interesting story. Perhaps you could tell us more?
Fire Monster: ...!
Vyrn: We've got more troublemakers to deal with first!

Festival of Falling Flame - Chapter 2: A Fiery Acquaintance - Episode 4

Richard describes the inspiration for the festival to the crew, the fearsome Phoenix of legend. However, no living person has ever seen this mystical creature, and its very existence has become but superstition. Sturm and Drang watch insidiously as the crew takes out the escaped monsters.

Monster: Gwooan...
Katalina: Whew... That should be all of them.
Katalina: So, Richard, let's continue where we left off.
Richard: Word has it that the Festival of Falling Flame was started by the islanders as an offering to appease the fearsome Phoenix.
Richard: According to legend the Phoenix has magnificent, multicolored wings and an imposing crest that resembles a royal crown.
Richard: It is said that with a single beat of its wings, it can burn entire forests to ashes.
Vyrn: Whoa! And that thing comes to the island every year? That's crazy! How can anyone live with that?
Richard: Don't worry. No one alive has ever actually seen the beast. It's just a legend. Most people don't really believe it exists.
Richard: The festival isn't seen as an offering to the Phoenix anymore. It's just one big excuse for a celebration!
Lyria: It feels a bit sad just knowing that...
The crew muses over the long-lost origins of the Festival of Falling Flame.
But Richard is quick to break the quiet, somber mood.
Richard: Excellent! Now I must visit the lovely Therese and inform her of my heroic deeds!
Vyrn: Seriously? You're gonna just waltz in and tell her you're a hero now?
Lyria: Let's get going! I can't wait to see how happy Therese will be!
Sturm: Did you hear that? The Phoenix is just some kind of superstition...
Drang: Well, if you consider that this superstition is interesting enough for him to bother remembering all that info, there's gotta be something more to it!
Drang: You know, releasing those fire monsters might not have been such a bad idea after all.
Sturm: ...
Drang: Hey, where are you going? Lemme guess: the festival? Always a fun time to be had there!
Drang: Yeowch! Seriously, Sturm, you've gotta stop doing that. You should really see someone about this whole lashing out thing of yours.
Drang: Sheesh, all I did was ask where you're going.
Sturm: To the Casino Liner.
Drang: Oh, I get it! Good thinking, Sturm!
The dynamic duo put on a fearless smile as they make their way to the Casino Liner.

Festival of Falling Flame - Chapter 3: The Trigger for the Plot - Episode 1

Now at the Casino Liner, Richard's enthusiasm for the duels is piqued upon hearing that victory will gain him an audience with Therese. Things take a turn for the worse when a fire monster suddenly appears.

With all the escaped monsters defeated, (Captain) and the crew return to town.
They set out to find Therese and support Richard in his bid to capture her affections.
Katalina: I know you want to speak to Therese, but do you actually know where she is?
Richard: I, uh... Well...
Sierokarte: Hey, I heard what you guys did. How kind of you to take out those monsters that escaped from the circus of horrors for us!
Vyrn: Siero! Good timing!
Sierokarte: Oh? What makes you say that?
Lyria: Um, do you happen to know someone named Therese? We're trying to figure out where she is.
Sierokarte: Did you say Therese? As in the great duelist?
Sierokarte: If that's who you're looking for, I'm pretty sure you'll find her on the Casino Liner. That's where all the duels take place!
Sierokarte: There's an airship that ferries people between the town and the Casino Liner, if you want to check it out.
Richard: Thanks a bunch! I owe you one! Off we go, (Captain)!
Richard: Ah, the Casino Liner's noble art of dueling. Relying on nothing but your own skill in battle to win the adulation of the crowd.
Richard: Is this really where I'll find Therese?
Buff Man: Hey, you there. You here to enter the duels?
Vyrn: Nope, we're here looking for someone named Therese. Any idea where she is?
Buff Man: Hah! Hahaha! You gotta be kiddin' me!
Vyrn: Did I miss something? What's so funny?
Buff Man: Are you serious, pal? You've got business with Therese? You must be dreamin'!
Burly Man: Ain't no one gets to meet Therese that easy. You wanna see her? Then you better get duelin'!
Richard: We have to duel?
Burly Man: Darn straight! If you come out on top, you get a heap of prize money, and you get to go a round with Therese herself!
Richard: Being a champ will get me some private time with her...
Richard: Alas, this must be a trial of love!
Richard: Hahah! Now all I've gotta do is win this thing!
Buff Man: Whoa there, bud. It ain't gonna be a walk in the park. There are tons of tough duelists here just itchin' to meet Therese.
Buff Man: But if you think you've got what it takes, you should be able to beat that monster there without breakin' a sweat, right?
Richard: Monster?
Monster: Groaaar!
Vyrn: Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up! What the heck is a monster doing aboard the Casino Liner?
Buff Man: I dunno, but it's right there! So you gonna take care of it or what?
Katalina: Well, we certainly can't leave it on the loose. Let's chase it off the Casino Liner before it sinks us!
Richard: The poor monster doesn't know what it's got itself into.

Festival of Falling Flame - Chapter 3: The Trigger for the Plot - Episode 2

The crew wonders how monsters could have found their way aboard the Casino Liner—a feat that should be all but impossible. They rise to the challenge of uncovering the truth behind it all.

Richard: Huff... Huff...
Vyrn: A monster showing up here of all places sure caught me off guard.
Katalina: Does anyone else think this is weird?
Katalina: The only way onto the Casino Liner is by airship from the town. How did a monster get on board?
Vyrn: I got no idea, but—
Vyrn: Seems we can work that out later!
Lyria: More monsters coming right for us!
Katalina: It's almost as though they're trying to keep us away from the duels!
Richard: Would they really do that? We've gotta stop 'em, (Captain)!
Katalina: Let's take these ones out and figure out where they're coming from!

Festival of Falling Flame - Chapter 3: The Trigger for the Plot - Episode 3

(Captain) and company push back the monsters, making their way to a small cargo ship affixed to the Casino Liner. The culprits behind the whole incident, Sturm and Drang, appear before the crew and continue to send out massive waves of monsters.

The crew fend off wave after wave of monsters, eventually making their way toward a small cargo ship affixed to the Casino Liner.
Vyrn: I'm fed up with these never-ending monsters on this stupid airship! It's almost like we're in a nest!
Katalina: Someone must be using these monsters to get in the way of the duels.
Lyria: But why would anyone do that?
Richard: I will not let these monsters keep me from my Therese!
Vyrn: That's the spirit! Let's do this!
Just as (Captain) and company ready their weapons, the sound of applause reverberates throughout the room.
Katalina: Show yourself!
Drang: Hey, guys! I do hope we're not interrupting something.
Richard: You! What are you guys doing here?
Drang: Us? We're the ones who brought these monsters on board. You're welcome, by the way.
Drang: And of course, it was our handiwork behind the escaped monsters at the circus of horrors too.
Drang: Yeeowch! Violence is never the answer, Sturm!
Sturm: Shut up.
Sturm signals for monsters from further within to come forth.
Monsters: Grooaar!
Vyrn: No way! Just how many do you have hiding back there?
Katalina: Doesn't matter—we're doing this either way! C'mon, (Captain)!

Festival of Falling Flame - Chapter 3: The Trigger for the Plot - Episode 4

By the time (Captain) and company wipe out the monsters, Sturm and Drang are nowhere to be seen. They return to the Casino Liner in pursuit of the dynamic duo as their surroundings begin to shake violently.

By the time the crew repels the onslaught of monsters, Sturm and Drang are no longer in sight.
Vyrn: They went off to the Casino Liner!
Katalina: After them!
The cargo ship shakes as they bolt forward in unison.
Richard: W-what the...
Lyria: ...!
Again?
Katalina: Everything okay, Lyria?
Lyria: I can feel a primal beast's presence...
Richard: Uh-oh... Please don't tell me it's the Phoenix...
Katalina: Whatever it is, we need to go back to the Casino Liner first, (Captain)!
In spite of the foreboding atmosphere, the crew pushes on in pursuit of Sturm and Drang.

Festival of Falling Flame - Chapter 4: A Passionate Duel - Episode 1

The crew returns to the Casino Liner to find duelists fighting off monsters to protect the crowds. The ship continues to tremble, foreboding something ominous to come.

The crew returns to the Casino Liner to find duelists fighting desperately to protect the defenseless crowds.
Katalina: This is—
Richard: Therese!
Sturm: ...
Therese: You've got guts to cause all this ruckus on the Casino Liner!
Sturm: Humph... You duelists aren't all that impressive.
Therese: Try saying that after I cut you down to size!
Richard: Waaait!
Therese: ...!
Richard: Your opponent is me, Slick Rich!
Drang: Well, I never! You guys actually survived? Color me impressed!
Sturm: Tch, you just don't know when to quit, do you?
The ground continues to shake, as if foreshadowing something sinister on the horizon.

Festival of Falling Flame - Chapter 4: A Passionate Duel - Episode 2

Though the persistent shaking of the Casino Liner continues to be a concern, the crew works with Therese to chase Sturm, Drang, and the monsters off the ship.

Therese: What's with these constant tremors?
Sturm: Eh, doesn't matter. Everything is still going as planned.
Katalina: Going as planned?
Burly Man: Yikes!
Katalina: We can't fight here. There are too many bystanders. They could get hurt.
Therese: You guys, I need your help! We need to get these two—and their monsters—off this ship!
Richard: Huh? Therese? Something seems different about you...
Vyrn: What're you doing? Get over here!
Therese: Those people are hurt. I can't leave them exposed like that. I'm sorry, but I have to—
Vyrn: Don't worry. Just leave the monsters to us! Come on, (Captain), let's do what we do best!

Festival of Falling Flame - Chapter 4: A Passionate Duel - Episode 3

Stirred by the monsters, the Phoenix awakens as has been Sturm and Drang's plan from the start. The crew leads the Phoenix to the plains outside to minimize damage to the ship and to others.

Monster: Gwooan...
Katalina: Pant... Wheeze...
Drang: Wow, now that is a surprise! You guys are stronger than you look!
Richard: You two are the only ones left! Better say your prayers!
Spectator 1: You with the blond hair! That's the kind of spirit we like to see!
Spectator 2: We're behind you, skyfarers! And you too, little lizard!
Sturm: ...!
Vyrn: Look over there, (Captain)! The crowds are all coming back!
Richard: I'd wager this entire situation looks like a duel to them.
Katalina: I don't know your purpose in all this, but surely you realize you've lost.
Katalina: Let's not forget this is supposed to be a festival here. I suggest you back off.
Drang: You catch that, Sturm? What are we to do?
Sturm: You tell me.
Drang: Huh, me? Um, yeah, I'd say it's about time we backed off.
Sturm: ...
Fair enough.
Sturm lets out a deep sigh, sheathes her sword, and begins walking back to the cargo ship.
Katalina: ...
Richard: Heh. Chickening out, are you?
Drang: Nuh-uh! You've got it all wrong! This just means we've done enough!
Vyrn: Enough what?
Drang: Oh, surely you must've noticed! The fire monsters we let out were meant to be sacrificial offerings to the Phoenix.
Drang: We figured this'd be the perfect place for that, considering all the tough duelists here.
Lyria: Then that means the primal beast aura I've been feeling is—
???: Screeech!
Drang: Hah-hah! We kinda figured it was all just some superstition, but maybe not!
Drang: Though I can't tell if it's happy about being offered all those fiery monsters or if it's just really pissed off...
Drang: Well, whatever the reason is, the fiery bird's come out to say hello!
Drang: Now we'll just leave you with the Phoenix to spend some quality time together! Ciao!
Katalina: Hold it! Tch... I didn't think the Phoenix actually existed...
Richard: If the legends are any indication, it can scorch entire forests with mere blasts of hot air...
Lyria: I can feel its intense rage seething...
Katalina: We can't risk any innocent bystanders getting hurt! Let's lure it far away to the fields outside!
Vyrn: It's do-or-die time! C'mon, (Captain)!
The Phoenix proves to be no mere superstition, manifesting before the crew. They leap out of the Grandcypher and run off to draw the Phoenix away.

Festival of Falling Flame - Chapter 4: A Passionate Duel - Episode 4

Not set on letting the Phoenix engulf the island in flames, the final confrontation begins.

Phoenix: Screeech!
Vyrn: Eep!
Richard: So this is the Phoenix of legend...
Vyrn: Oof... I'm definitely feeling the heat. You feeling okay, (Captain)?
Lyria: It speaks...
Phoenix: I am the embodiment of the burning flame. The strong fear me; the wise respect me.
Phoenix: Yet ye insolent fools dare forget your place. Ye shall suffer my burning judgment, here and now.
Phoenix: My flames shall sear the sky and cremate the earth. All shall tremble before me.
Vyrn: Wow, this guy sure likes the sound of his own voice. But still, this sounds like baaad news.
Phoenix: Screeech!
Richard: I don't think it's going to listen to us. There's only one way out of this.
Richard: Hey, Phoenix! These guys challenge you to a fight!
Vyrn: Wait, what? You could help, y'know! Sheesh!
Phoenix: Draw your final breaths... and prepare to be wreathed in the flames of your demise!
Vyrn: No time for small talk! Get ready, (Captain)!

Festival of Falling Flame - Ending

Now with the whole Phoenix fiasco behind them, Richard challenges Therese to a duel—only to suffer a humiliating loss. He wallows in his misfortune at first, but the flames of passion burn bright again when De La Fille walks by with a compliment.

Phoenix: Screeech!
Richard: Y-you did it!
Phoenix: Gah, insolent worms! I shall not forget this outrage!
Phoenix: Ye who have sullied my magnificent form, know this: I shall have my revenge!
Phoenix: When the time comes... you shall feel... my infernal wrath!
Vyrn: We did it, (Captain)! Port Breeze is finally safe again!
Spectator 1: Whoa! You guys were incredible!
Katalina: When did they...
Katalina: Hehe, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. This is the sort of thing they live for.
Spectator 2: Amazing! Bravo! That was sooo cool!
Spectator 3: Wow, that lizard's not bad!
Vyrn: I ain't no lizard! Why does everyone keep saying that?
Katalina: Hahaha... I'm not sure how, but I think we've made it to the big-time.
Therese: Er...
Richard: ...!
T-Therese?
Therese: You... You saved me. Again. Thank you so much.
Therese: And of course... I'm grateful for your help taking down the monsters, but there's something else I want to thank you for...
Therese: The dueling competition was ruined, but you gave the spectators a show to remember. Thank you.
Vyrn: Actually if anyone deserves your thanks, it's this guy.
Richard: What?
Therese: Erm, if there's anything I can do to repay you, please do let me know.
(Captain) and company watch as Richard takes a step forward toward Therese.
Richard: W-w-w-well... I...
Lyria: You can do it, Richard!
Richard: E-ever since coming to this town and b-bumping into you... I-I've fallen for you hard!
Richard: M-maybe... Maybe you would go out on a date with me?
Vyrn: Whoa! He actually said it!
Therese: !
Richard: P-p-please?
Therese: ...
Therese: W-well, considering we're on the Casino Liner and dueling is my calling... M-maybe if you beat me in a duel...
She makes it clear that a duel needs to happen. The crew follows Therese to the arena so that she and Richard can fight it out.
Richard: ...!
Vyrn: Go for it, Slick Rich! You've got this!
Lyria: You go, Richard!
And so the curtain rises on Richard's curious tale of love...
Only to fall moments later.
Therese: Pah! You want to go out with me? I would never go out with someone as weak as you! Get lost!
Burly Man: Whoa! Now there's the Therese we know and love!
Richard: H-how could you...
Richard: Hic...
Vyrn: Geez... That's harsh...
Katalina: A fatal blow, to be sure.
Lyria: Wow, Therese sure is tough.
Richard: N-ngh... I... I guess everyone's luck runs out eventually.
Richard: I was getting so lucky with the cards—it had to catch up with me sooner or later.
???: Indeed, it was bad luck. Entering into a duel with that woman will change anyone's fortunes.
Richard: ...!
???: But never fear. You never know what's waiting just around the corner.
Richard: What a beautiful woman... There's no doubt about it—this must be...
Richard: Fate!
The flames of love can never die—from the ashes they shall rise again like the Phoenix.
