Forever a Troublemaker

While (Captain) and the others are out on a request, Cendrillon is asked to watch over the Grandcypher, but she sneaks off to make money in town. The crew catches her red-handed, and Cendrillon is sent back to the ship. On her way back, she discovers a bag full of rupies in an alleyway and happily takes it. However, after speaking to a police officer, she realizes she most likely took the ransom money related to the child kidnapping that the crew is investigating.

Some time after Cendrillon joins the crew, the Grandcypher docks at an island for a request.
As (Captain) and friends head out to do work, Cendrillon is tasked with watching over the ship, but the mascot has other ideas.
Cendrillon: Get your handshakes here! One handshake for a hundred rupies!
Cendrillon: Adults and kids are all welcome! Don't be shy!
Leaving the ship behind, Cendrillon has started selling handshakes on a street corner.
Cendrillon: (As if I'd pass up this chance. We finally make it to a big town, and they want me to stay behind? Boooring.)
Cendrillon: (I'm the best mascot in the skies. People should start gathering around me if I just stand in the middle of the street.)
Cendrillon: (It's time to earn myself a mountain of money before we leave this place!)
Brimming with confidence, Cendrillon returns to shouting into the street.
Cendrillon: (Huh, that's weird. Not a single person has approached me yet.)
Cendrillon: (It almost seems like they're keeping their distance on purpose and whispering about me...)
Cendrillon: (Do they not trust outsiders? Siero told me that some places are like that.)
Cendrillon: (Tch, talk about bad luck. And here I thought I'd make at least a little bit.)
???: U-um...
Cendrillon: Finally, a customer! It's only a hundred rupies for one handshake...
Lyria: Oh! It really is you, Llon!
Vyrn: Should've known you wouldn't stay put on the ship. What're you doin' out here?
Cendrillon: Gah! Weren't you all supposed to be working?
Lyria: We still are. We're investigating a crime that happened in town.
Vyrn: Y'see, we were searching for info when we heard about some strange person trying to get people's attention.
Vyrn: Imagine our surprise when we came over and found you.
Cendrillon: Oh, come on, the townspeople thought I was suspicious?
Cendrillon: No wonder they didn't want handshakes...
Lyria: Everyone's on edge because of the recent crime, so I don't think now's the best time...
Vyrn: You should get back to the ship before you cause a fuss.
Vyrn: And stay there this time! Or else we're sending the Knickknack Shack a letter telling her about the trouble you've been up to!
Cendrillon: No, please, anything but Siero!
Cendrillon: Fine, I'll go back! Hope you're happy!
Accepting defeat, Cendrillon walks away, dragging her feet all the while.
Cendrillon: Sigh, I guess I should give up before (Captain) and the others get really mad.
Cendrillon: What a bummer. It'd sure be nice if I found something nice to make up for it.
Cendrillon: Wonder if there're any rupies lying around... Or a piece of jewelry that a rich person would reward me for finding...
Cendrillon: Or maybe... Hm?
As Cendrillon walks along the alleyway, she notices a strange lump out of the corner of her eye.
A closer inspection reveals a large, expensive-looking bag.
Cendrillon: Hehehe... Looks like luck's on my side!
Cendrillon: Let's see what's inside... Hope someone rich dropped this—
Unable to contain her excitement, she pops the bag open, but freezes upon seeing what is inside.
Cendrillon: No way... It's completely packed full of...
Cendrillon: Real rupies! Are you serious?
The bag is filled to the brim with sparkling, shining coins.
Cendrillon takes one to inspect, before sucking in a huge breath.
Cendrillon: This isn't just small change either. It's the most valuable type!
Cendrillon: One, ten... No way I can count it all. This could probably pay off my whole debt.
Cendrillon: I bet whoever lost this is in some serious trouble. I should probably return it... Maybe they'll even give me like a tenth of it as a reward.
Cendrillon: But if I keep it for myself, I can clear my entire debt in one go...
Cendrillon: You know, if this belongs to a rich person, losing this much wouldn't even make a dent in their pocket.
Cendrillon: Which means it's probably fine if I take this home with me, right? Right...
Glancing around, Cendrillon takes the heavy bag into her hands.
Cendrillon: Oh, what a lovely bag! I have no idea who it could belong to! I can't possibly return it without knowing the owner!
Cendrillon: Guess I'll make sure it doesn't go to waste and use it myself!
Cendrillon: Well, goodbye! And thanks for the bag, original owner—whoever you are!
Completely unbothered by the weight of her new treasure, Cendrillon rushes out of the alleyway.
Cendrillon: Hehehe... Gotta get this back to the ship as soon as possible! Can't risk losing a single coin, after all.
Cendrillon: But how do I explain this to the others...
Cendrillon: Eh, I'll just say I finished a request on my own and got an extra big reward.
???: Hey, you! Stop right there!
Cendrillon: Huh? What?
Police Officer 1: You can relax. I'm just an officer of this town—not anyone suspicious.
Cendrillon: (Ahhhh! Did he say officer, as in police officer?)
Cendrillon: Er, did you need something?
Police Officer 1: Just want to check a few things. With the recent crime in mind, we've been tasked with questioning anyone we don't recognize.
Police Officer 1: So where are you from? And what's in the big bag?
Cendrillon: Er... This bag is, uh...
Cendrillon: A part of a job! I got asked to move it by my client!
Cendrillon: I'm actually on my way back to the Grandcypher. It's an airship docked in your port...
Police Officer 1: Ah, you're part of the crew that our mayor hired! Well, that's a relief.
Police Officer 1: Sorry for doubting you. As you already know, we've had to tighten security ever since that child was kidnapped.
Cendrillon: Ah... Right..
Police Officer 1: Watch yourself out here. Even an accomplished skyfarer like you can be caught off guard.
Police Officer 1: With that big bag you're carrying, someone might mistake you for being wealthy and try to rob you.
Police Officer 1: If I were you, I'd get back sooner rather than later! Take care!
Walking away, the officer gives Cendrillon a polite nod before returning to his patrol.
He doesn't notice the drops of nervous sweat sliding down her cheeks.
Cendrillon: (So someone kidnapped a kid... Meanwhile, I found a mysterious bag filled with rupies...)
Cendrillon: (And (Captain) and the others are still working, which means they haven't caught the kidnapper yet...)
Cendrillon: (That could only mean I took...)
Cendrillon: (The ransom money! Ahhhh!)
Feeling the crushing weight of her actions, Cendrillon screams internally.

Forever a Troublemaker: Scene 2

Cendrillon heads back to the alleyway to return the ransom money, but is caught by a police officer who questions her and asks her to come to the station. Strangely, the officer leads her outside town and into the forest. An unexpected attack from behind knocks Cendrillon out before she realizes what is happening.

Cendrillon has come to the realization that the bag of rupies she took is most likely ransom money for a kidnapper.
With the bag weighing heavy in her grip, she paces about the street, trying not to panic.
Cendrillon: (This is not good... I almost just went home with ransom money.)
Cendrillon: (I bet if the kidnapper doesn't get it, that poor kid is going to be the one to pay the consequences...)
Cendrillon: (Putting a kid in danger goes totally against my code of beauty!)
Cendrillon: (Plus, if I cause any more trouble, the crew will definitely force me back to Siero!)
Cendrillon: (I don't even want to imagine the look she'll give me if that happens...)
Cendrillon: (But if I tell the police about it, they'll want to know why I took the money in the first place.)
Cendrillon: (Then I'll have to tell them I sort of... stole it... and if the crew finds that out, they'll definitely kick me out.)
Cendrillon: (Ugh... I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place...)
Cendrillon: Wait, what if I just pretend I never found anything to begin with?
Cendrillon: Since taking the bag with me is trouble, and giving it to the police is trouble too...
Cendrillon: I should just do the smart thing and remove myself from the situation entirely!
Cendrillon: That way, I can just pretend I went straight home like (Captain) wanted!
Cendrillon: Yeah, that's right. I don't know anything about a suspicious bag or the stuff inside it!
Cendrillon: All I have to do is put it back exactly where I found it.
Plan made, Cendrillon holds the bag close and hurries off, doing her best to avoid other people.
Cendrillon: I can't let the crew catch sight of me... Better go fast!
Cendrillon: Phew... Managed to make it back to the alleyway somehow.
Cendrillon: Now to put this thing off to the side somewhere and skedaddle...
Police Officer 2: Hey, you there! What are you doing in the alley?
Cendrillon: Gaaah!
Police Officer 2: That bag!
Police Officer 2: How suspicious... I'm checking what's inside!
Cendrillon: What! Hey, wait! Yanking it out of my hands counts as stealing, you know...
Police Officer 2: S-so many rupies... Why are you carrying around this much money?
Cendrillon: Eep! Er... I dunno...
Cendrillon: It's totally not... ransom money or anything...
Police Officer 2: Did you just say this is ransom money?
Police Officer 2: Do you know something about the kidnapping? You're coming with me to the station!
Cendrillon: Oh nooo...
Cendrillon: Are you serious right now? Come on!
Not knowing what else to do, Cendrillon follows after the officer.
However, instead of leading her to a building, he takes her outside town and into the forest.
Cendrillon: (I was in such a panic, I didn't notice, but...)
Cendrillon: (Why is he taking me into the forest? The station should be in town.)
Cendrillon: (Did he lie to me? But why would a police officer lie?)
Cendrillon: (Don't tell me...)
???: Sheesh, what a mess. Be a good girl and take a nap for me, will ya?
Cendrillon: Guh!
Something strikes Cendrillon right in the back of her head.
She is out like a light before she even hits the ground.

Forever a Troublemaker: Scene 3

When Cendrillon comes to, she is inside the kidnapper's hideout. She realizes the police officer she met is the kidnapper's accomplice. Confronting the criminals, Cendrillon saves the kidnapped child at the expense of the ransom money being burned up. Despite losing the money, the child's father is grateful and tries to offer Cendrillon a reward, but she turns him down, insisting that their safety was the most important thing to her.

Cendrillon: Urgh... Where am I?
Cendrillon: (My hands and feet are tied up... Looks like I was nabbed after getting knocked out.)
Cendrillon: (I don't think an officer is supposed to use force like that... For now, I should figure out what's going on.)
Separating her joints, Cendrillon easily slips out of the ropes.
Cendrillon: Anyway, I wonder which way the exit is.
Cendrillon: Oh, I can hear voices in that direction. Let's see...
Kidnapper: You were supposed to bring only the money! Why'd you drag that weird kid along with ya?
Kidnapper: If someone comes after us, it's gonna be all your fault!
Police Officer 2: Well, what else was I supposed to do? The patrols go through that alley, so I had to book it.
Police Officer 2: Plus she mentioned the kidnapping, so I thought she knew something.
Police Officer 2: Better she's stuck here than running around with info, yeah?
Kidnapper: I guess that's true...
Cendrillon: (That explains things. All this bad stuff happening to me is their fault.)
Cendrillon: (Sounds to me like it's time for a little payback!)
Police Officer 2: Besides, the only reason I ran into that kid is because you didn't grab the money right away like you were supposed to!
Kidnapper: Yeah, yeah, that was my bad... Sheesh, wish we had something better to do than sit around grumbling.
Kidnapper: Port security's about to lighten up soon, right? Can't wait until we can blow this joint.
Police Officer 2: Shouldn't be too long now. We should give those kids some sleeping pills so they don't run before we're gone...
Cendrillon: Body slam!
Police Officer 2: Gwah!
Cendrillon: Whew, a clean hit. You just got a direct taste of my beauty and grace—consider it a freebie.
Kidnapper: Y-you were supposed to be tied up!
Cendrillon: Hah... As if ropes like that could hold me.
Cendrillon: Now be a good kidnapper, and sit still. Once I take you out and turn you in, I'll take all the rewards—
Kidnapper: In your dreams!
Grabbing a tied-up child from nearby, the kidnapper points his gun at his newly acquired hostage.
Cendrillon: Is that... the kid you held for ransom?
Cendrillon: What're you trying to pull?
Kidnapper: Isn't it obvious? If you want him to live, you'll be the one to sit still.
Cendrillon: Using a kid as your shield? Coward!
Kidnapper: Haha, call me whatever you want! Who cares what happens to this brat, as long as I get my money!
Kidnapper: You know what? I may as well kill the both of you while I have the chance!
Child: Y-you're... going to kill me?
Terror colors the child's expression as he hears the kidnapper's plan.
Child: N-no... Help me!
Kidnapper: Ha, no one's coming to save you no matter how much you cry!
Cendrillon: ...!
Shoulders shaking, Cendrillon takes a single step forward.
Kidnapper: Stop right there. I'm not kidding when I say I'll kill him...
Cendrillon: Every word out of your mouth is spitting on my code of beauty...
Kidnapper: H-hey now...
Cendrillon: Making a kid cry like that... Well, no more! Not on my watch!
Cendrillon: It's my job to turn that frown upside down!
Kidnapper: Eek!
For a brief moment, the kidnapper's grip on his gun slackens as Cendrillon's shouting catches him off guard.
Cendrillon: Thanks for the opening!
Kidnapper: Gah!
Cendrillon: All right! Kid, hold still while I untie the ropes!
Child: Okay!
While the kidnapper is out for the count, Cendrillon quickly frees the child and hides him behind her.
Cendrillon: There we go. That takes care of your trump card.
Cendrillon: Just need to call the real police over and... Oh! I'll also be taking that money too, thanks!
Kidnapper: Tch! No, you won't!
Kidnapper: If I can't have it, nobody can!
Arm trembling, the kidnapper summons the last of his strength to fire his gun.
His bullet whizzes straight past Cendrillon—into a barrel of gunpowder.
Cendrillon: You've got to be kidding me!
Cendrillon: Kid, are you okay?
Child: Yeah, I'm fine... But we gotta run!
Cendrillon: Ahhh... Right!
Despite her answer, Cendrillon hesitates and stares at the back of the cave.
Right next to the spreading fire is the bag of rupies.
Kidnapper: Gahaha! If I can't get my hands on the money, might as well blow up this cave!
Kidnapper: Now to beat a hasty retreat! See you never!
Cendrillon: (That stupid butthead... He's trying to turn those rupies into melted scrap!)
Cendrillon: (But if I go for the bag, this kid might not make it out safely...)
Child: ...
Cendrillon: Aaahhh, this isn't the time to be thinking about it!
Cendrillon shakes her head, as if to cast away her greedy thoughts, before sweeping the child into her arm.
Cendrillon: I'm everyone's favorite mascot—and I always take the side of kids! I shouldn't be trying to weigh the scales here!
Cendrillon: Kid, hold on tight! I'm gonna get us out of this cave!
Child: O-okay! Thank you!
Cendrillon: Cough, cough... Finally made it out.
Lyria: Llon! Thank goodness you're all right!
Cendrillon: Lyria? (Captain) and Vyrn too? What are you doing here?
Vyrn: Our investigation into the kidnapping took us to this cave.
Vyrn: But right before we entered, we heard a huge explosion, and then two suspicious guys ran out...
Cendrillon: Oh, them. You caught them, right?
Police Officer 1: Of course. It's my duty to arrest criminals.
Police Officer 1: And thanks to you, the kidnapped child is safe as well.
Police Officer 1: His father has been very worried. Would you help us escort him back to town?
Cendrillon: I guess if you really need me that much. Well, kid, can you walk?
Child: Yeah! Let's go!
Child's Father: Thank you so much, Cendrillon.
Child's Father: My son owes his life to you. I can't put into words how grateful I am...
Cendrillon: Haha, don't worry about it!
Cendrillon: Instead of that, I'd rather, um...
Child's Father: Actually, forget words. I can show you exactly how grateful I am with a reward!
Child's Father: I had to shell out everything I had to pay the ransom, so I don't have any rupies left, but...
Child's Father: I'll go into debt if I have to! Anything for my son's savior!
Cendrillon: ...
Cendrillon: That's okay. I don't need a reward.
Child's Father: Huh? B-but...
Cendrillon: The most important thing is that your kid is safe and sound.
Cendrillon: Just look out for each other and live your lives—away from any more kidnappers, you hear?
Child's Father: Cendrillon! Oh, you're too kind! Thank you, we will!
Lyria: Llon, that was so cool!
Vyrn: At the end of the day, she's still a mascot who works to make kids happy, huh?
While (Captain) and the others are moved by the heartwarming scene, Cendrillon walks away with a bitter smile on her face.
She heads back to the Grandcypher without another word.
Cendrillon: Sigh... Sure, I put on a good act back there...
Cendrillon: But wow, what I wouldn't have given for some cold, hard rupies...
Alone on the Grandcypher's deck, Cendrillon mutters despondently to herself.
Her disappointment is immeasurable, but at the very least, no one else is around to hear it.
