The Sage's Treasure

The crew hears about the treasure of an ancient people and visits some remote ruins to investigate. Other skyfarers seeking the treasure have trashed the ruins since Mishra last visited. As the crew explores, monsters suddenly appear.

The crew hears a rumor of the treasure of an ancient civilization hidden in some ruins.
Mishra strongly urges the crew to investigate, so they visit the island in question.
Vyrn: Look at all these holes. What a mess.
Katalina: Thugs must have heard about the treasure and come here to try to dig it up.
Mishra: Thanks to them, this place looks quite a bit different than when I last visited.
Vyrn: So you came here before, Mishra?
Mishra: I did. A stone tablet was unearthed here bearing the same ancient writing I use, you see.
Mishra: These ruins were once quiet, devoid of not only monsters but people as well. My, how times have changed.
Lyria: Huh? (Captain), did you hear something just now?
Monster: Grrr...
Katalina: Careful! Monsters!
Rackam: And there are more over here! We're surrounded!
Mishra: And here I was looking forward to a quiet stroll through the ruins. I suppose I'll have to engage in a little... beautification.

The Sage's Treasure: Scene 2

The monsters were sent by a man seeking the treasure. Since he can't read ancient writings, he tries to get Mishra to locate the treasure for him. When the crew fails to cooperate, he sends more monsters at them.

Mishra: It's odd to see monsters here. I wonder what became of the spell of warding that used to keep them away.
Lyria: Um... I think I saw someone in that building over there...
Lyria: Maybe it's someone using monsters to chase us away.
???: You're a sharp one, little lady.
Lyria: ...!
Hooligan: Hey, you with the ears! You said something about a spell. Can you read the ancient writing here?
Mishra: And what if I can?
Hooligan: Sounds like I'm in luck! With you here, that treasure's as good as mine.
Hooligan: I found something that looks like a treasure map, but I can't read this gibberish.
Hooligan: I was actually thinking about just destroying the ruins—and then you showed up!
Rackam: Not exactly subtle, are you?
Hooligan: Shut your mouth! If she comes with me, no one has to get hurt.
Hooligan: Or we can do things the fun way...
Monster: Grrr...
Katalina: So our hunch was correct...
Mishra: Ha-ha... Heh-heh... Ha-ha-ha!
Vyrn: Mishra... What's going on?
Mishra: I was hoping you'd give me the chance to vent my temper over what you've done to the ruins.
Mishra: You youngsters nowadays have no respect for history. I think you need to be taught a lesson!

The Sage's Treasure: Scene 3

Mishra leads the crew to the treasure, which turns out to be a great number of stone tablets. Rackam was hoping for something with more resale value, but Mishra gleefully dives into her research to decipher the tablets.

Hooligan: Damn it!
Mishra: Is this your treasure map? I see...
Mishra: This is indeed what you thought it was. But I have my doubts that you'd be interested in treasure like this.
Rackam: And what's that supposed to mean?
Mishra: Ha-ha. Seeing is believing. Follow me.
Vyrn: Wow! This is...
Lyria: There are so many stone tablets!
Katalina: This is certainly a grand sight... Every single one is covered with ancient writing.
Mishra: This is a treasure trove of knowledge. Your little map showed the location of a treasure for the learned.
Mishra: I bet you were hoping for something a bit shinier. Ha-ha! Just what I'd expect of a fool!
Hooligan: I can't believe it...
Mishra: You should really just be grateful you didn't get lost in the ruins and starve.
Mishra: From now on, I trust you'll have more sense than to tread ancient ruins without the proper respect.
Rackam: But you know... I was kind of hoping for something a little shinier myself.
Lyria: Ha-ha! But the tablets are definitely a treasure to Mishra!
Rackam: I see... That's why she's been holed up in her room since we got back—research.
Rackam: Which means I haven't had to put up with any lectures on beauty lately, at least...
Mishra: Ahh, (Captain)! Excellent timing! Listen to this!
Mishra: I finally deciphered the writing on the stone tablets we found in the ruins the other day, and I learned something surprising...
Mishra: Combining that ancient knowledge with the herb-blending technique I was researching before, I discovered a new way to tighten the skin and keep it moisturized...
Rackam: G-give me a break!
To Mishra, daring researcher of beauty and ancient texts, the knowledge the crew found in the ancient ruins ranks among the greatest of treasures.
But what sorts of people left that knowledge behind? The compass of Mishra's insatiable curiosity points the way toward this and other truths.
