On Equal Footing

The investigation into the Seven-Star Sword goes nowhere until the sword itself breaks its silence and reveals it's the embodiment of the sword's first wielder. It has been waiting for an individual of great might and authority, which it recognizes (Captain) and Seofon as both possessing. The sword claims the two leaders will inevitably duel each other, and then it falls silent once more.

(Captain) and Seofon work together to uncover the Seven-Star Sword's secrets.
But the task is far more difficult than they expected. The crew gathers around the sword to discuss their next move.
Seofon: Sigh... Talk about a dead end. We gave it our best shot but came away empty-handed.
Seofon: Not even the ever-resourceful Siero could sniff out a solid lead.
Lyria: This puzzle isn't going to be easy to solve...
Seofon: You said it. If only this hunk of metal would open up a little, it'd sure save us a ton of trouble.
Seofon gives the sword's handle a firm rap.
Seven-Star Sword: Fine.
Seofon: Huh?
Vyrn: I-it talked!
Seven-Star Sword: I can loosen my tongue a bit.
The sudden voice catches the crew by surprise.
Seofon: Hold on there, my dear sword. Aren't you going to give us a proper good morning after such a long slumber?
Seofon: And why did you wait until now to break your silence?
Seven-Star Sword: I've been waiting for the both of you to become sufficiently powerful.
Seofon: Hmph, always marching to your own beat.
Lyria: Excuse me, but there's something we'd like to ask!
Seofon: Listen up. We've worked our tails off trying to figure you out.
Seofon: So why don't you throw us a bone here?
Seven-Star Sword: That's what I plan to do.
True to its word, the Seven-Star Sword begins to speak.
Seven-Star Sword: The War was a period of great turmoil.
Seven-Star Sword: I, the Seven-Star Sword, was forged as a weapon so powerful, I could bring an end to the conflict.
Seven-Star Sword: A young swordsman was the first master to grip my handle.
Seofon: Must have been one heckuva swordsman.
Seven-Star Sword: Not at all. He was a green soldier thrust into the front lines.
Seven-Star Sword: Despite his inexperience, he showed enough potential to receive the endorsement of the ones who created the Revenant weapons.
Seven-Star Sword: In his very first battle, the young warrior fought with utmost bravery and was able to raise the Seven-Star Sword in victory.
Seven-Star Sword: His exploits carried over to the next battle...
Seven-Star Sword: And to the battle after that, and so on and so forth.
Seven-Star Sword: With every triumphant return from the war zone, he became more and more distinguished.
Seven-Star Sword: Thus the man was promoted at a young age to commander and bravely led his men into the fray. His reputation spread throughout the skies.
Seven-Star Sword: But his rise wasn't without pitfalls.
Vyrn: Uh-oh... Did something bad happen?
Seofon: Jealousy rears its ugly head whenever someone has meteoric success. I'm guessing haters took matters into their own hands and offed him?
Seven-Star Sword: Hardly.
Seven-Star Sword: With resignation, everyone recognized the prowess of the Seven-Star Sword's master. Jealousy was not a factor.
Seven-Star Sword: The desire for more strength and authority, however, was his downfall. He began to mobilize his unit for his own benefit.
Seven-Star Sword: His men were intoxicated by his strength. No, it was more like they worshipped him. They followed his every order without question.
Seven-Star Sword: They became overzealous.
Seofon: So the man got addicted to power and lost sight of himself... That's what happens when you're suddenly gifted with all this might.
Seven-Star Sword: Indeed. Addiction was certainly the case.
Vyrn: Okay, then what happened?
Seven-Star Sword: It didn't take long for a larger, more dominant army to put them in their place. When the dust settled and the screams faded away, the swordsman realized he was the only one left.
Seven-Star Sword: No, he too had already passed on. The sword gripped in his hand was all that remained unscathed.
Seven-Star Sword: Even if he ended up alone because of his dream, so strong was his lust for power that he stopped at nothing to obtain it.
Vyrn: So that's what happened to the first guy to use the Seven-Star Sword.
Seofon hasn't said much since the sword began its story, but now he finally speaks up.
Seofon: Or maybe he's been with us all along within the sword.
Lyria: Huh? How?
Seofon: Call this a hunch, but the way this tale's being told, it feels like I'm listening to the man himself. Am I right?
Seven-Star Sword: Spot on. Yes, I am in fact the first master of the Seven-Star Sword.
Vyrn: S-seriously?
Seven-Star Sword: With my men routed and my body covered in fatal wounds, the sword was the only thing I couldn't bear to part with. I intended to battle on, with or without allies.
Seven-Star Sword: But when I tried to grip the handle, I felt nothing.
Seven-Star Sword: Suddenly I was looking at myself. My knees were on the ground, my body hunched over dead on the battlefield.
Seven-Star Sword: I became the sword itself, or should I say my consciousness was burned into it.
Lyria: How sad...
Seven-Star Sword: You needn't pity me. On the contrary, it's better this way.
Seofon: Oh?
Seven-Star Sword: I found myself changing hands numerous times as time went on.
Seven-Star Sword: Swung by the strong. Flaunted by the authoritative. In some cases, a few of these individuals boasted both of those qualities.
Seven-Star Sword: For generations I wandered in search of strength, picking up where I had left off after death.
Seven-Star Sword: Each of my masters met their end in battle, but for me, that was simply another opportunity to pass on to the next formidable candidate.
Seven-Star Sword: What kind of person would my next master be like? I couldn't wait to find out.
Seven-Star Sword: I'm hoping for a worthy master to step forth and make the dream I had when I was alive come true.
Vyrn: This sword is unbelievable...
Seven-Star Sword: To the two warriors who have brandished me, I have this to say.
Seven-Star Sword: Since time immemorial, in addition to slaying enemies, swords have stood as a symbol of authority.
Seven-Star Sword: Be they leaders of soldiers or an entire nation, you will find a sword at the hip of those who stand above everyone else.
Seven-Star Sword: That is what has brought me here.
Vyrn: Sounds like you're scheming something! You gonna mess with our crew again?
Seven-Star Sword: At first I deemed that grinning man to be stronger than the youth.
Seofon: Yep, heard it with my own ears.
Seven-Star Sword: Yet in a short span of time, the youth has done an admirable job of catching up to him in terms of power.
Vyrn: Well, duh! This journey has toughened (Captain) up ten-fold!
Lyria: Yes! (Captain) works with everyone to get the job done!
Seven-Star Sword: Yes, I was about to get to that point. They both share a common thread, and that would be their roles as leaders.
Seofon: ...
Seven-Star Sword: Since they both possess power and authority, there is no weapon more perfect for them than the sword.
Seven-Star Sword: Let me also give you a warning, considering the things I've seen since the War.
Seven-Star Sword: Conflict invariably arises when two strong individuals share the same space. Peace is a short-lived illusion.
Seven-Star Sword: You two will be at each other's throats again at some point in time.
Vyrn: That's a lie and you know it!
Lyria: Vyrn's right! That won't ever happen again!
Vyrn: Plus (Captain) ain't like you at all. Our captain doesn't give a hoot about controlling people!
Vyrn and Lyria let the sword hear how wrong it is.
Seven-Star Sword: ...
Vyrn: Huh? Hello?
Lyria: It's not talking anymore...
Seofon: Sigh... Like arguing with a toddler.
They try to get the sword talking again, but nothing works.
Eventually they give up and are left to ponder the sword's words.
