A Detour at Hello Beach

While enjoying Hello Beach, Pochacco, Vajra, and Meg run into Kirimichan at the beach house. After she tells the trio she's low on vegetables for the beach house's popular yakisoba, they decide to go to the storeroom to fetch more for her. On the way, Pochacco's curiosity leads them to a cave where they soon become lost.

On the magical shore of Hello Beach, Pochacco, Vajra, and Meg frolic under the bright yellow sun.
Pochacco: Look alive, Meg! The ball's headed your way!
Meg: It's all mine!
Meg: Hrraaah!
Vajra: Haha! I think you put a little too much behind that, Meg!
Pochacco: Whoa, nice one! You're meg-a strong!
Meg: Am I? Ahaha...
Pochacco: I'm having tons of fun playin' with this ball, but whaddya say we try something else?
Vajra: Sounds good...
Vajra: Hm? Sniff, sniff.
Vajra: Something smells good!
Meg: Sniff, sniff... It's yakisoba. I think they're cooking up a batch at the beach house over there.
Pochacco: Oh, it's Kirimichan! Hey, Kirimichan!
Kirimichan: Ah, it's Pochacco... and some of the crew! Enjoying your time at Hello Beach?
Vajra: Yeah, we're having a blast! I hope I don't ever have to say goodbye to this place!
Meg: Same here. Playing around with everyone on this pristine beach... It reminds me of a picture perfect summer in Auguste.
Meg: Looks like Ursula's having fun too.
Ursula: Sharrrk!
Kirimichan: Glad to hear it! I hope you all have the time of your lives!
Pochacco: Say, you're lookin' pretty frazzled, Kirimichan. What's up?
Kirimichan: It's just... the beach house is awfully popular. We're close to running out of the veggies we use in our yakisoba...
Kirimichan: We're low on onions, bean sprouts, and carrots... I have to make a trip to our storeroom to restock!
Kirimichan: Ah! But there's also this meeting about our new menu I have to go to... Oh no, what do I do?
Vajra: If you have a lot on your plate, we can fetch the veggies for you. What say we help her out, Pochacco? Meg?
Pochacco: Yeah, leave the fetchin' to us!
Meg: Right. You just focus on thinking of ideas for the new menu, Kirimichan.
Meg: I'm sure visitors to the beach house are gonna love whatever you come up with!
Kirimichan: You think so? Thanks, Meg! I'm counting on you guys.
After receiving a map from Kirimichan, the trio sets off for the storeroom.
Meg: Let's see... It's a little far, huh. Is this the way?
Pochacco: Hey, look! A souvenir shop!
Pochacco spots the store and wastes no time trotting off straight toward the entrance.
Pochacco: Check it out! This stationery case has got me and my pals on it!
Vajra: Ooh! That's so cute! I want one of my own!
Meg: Look, Pochacco, you're on this pen. I've never needed a pen and a case so bad...
Meg: Hey, wait. We're supposed to be fetching the veggies. We can come back to look next time.
Pochacco: Ah, right. Guess I got a little sidetracked. Hehe...
Vajra: Grr. But the stationery... It calls to me...
Meg: All right, so we turn right here...
Pochacco: Look! It's a bouncy house!
Ecstatic, Pochacco makes a mad dash for the inflatable structure.
Vajra: A bouncy what?
Pochacco: Watch me! Jumping on the bouncy parts sends you flying up in the air! It feels great!
Vajra: Wow! Let me jump too!
Vajra: Hahaha! What a blast!
Pochacco: Hehe! I feel like I'm on top of a cloud!
Meg: Gosh, that looks so fun! I wanna try...
Meg: Agh, no! The veggies! Guys, we have a job to do!
Vajra: Oh! I almost forgot.
Vajra: I'd love to jump around all day, but we should really get going, Pochacco.
Pochacco: Righty-o. Hehe, looks like I got sidetracked again.
Vajra: Then again, who wouldn't? There's just something about being here that makes me feel so joyful.
Pochacco: Probably because everyone that visits Hello Beach can't help but smile.
Vajra: You know, I think you're right! Hello Beach is fantastic!
Meg: It is, isn't it? It truly is a wonderful place where everyone can have a great time, just like Auguste.
Pochacco: Hehe, you sure do love Auguste, don't you, Meg. It'd be awesome if I could visit someday.
Meg: Trust me, Auguste is amazing! I'll take you there one day, Pochacco! Promise!
Pochacco: Oh boy! I can hardly wait!
Meg: Hmm... I think we go straight ahead. Weird how their storeroom is so far away. There aren't even any people out here.
Pochacco: Whoa, look over there! It's a cave!
A blue cave hidden at the water's edge catches Pochacco's eye and he scoots off to give it a closer look.
Meg: Uh-oh. There he goes on another one of his detours...
Vajra: I didn't even notice there was a cave here. You've got some good eyes on you, Pochacco.
Meg: So cool. This cave's got the vibe of a chic hideaway. You could probably open up a cafe in here.
Pochacco: Hey, guys! Take a look at this pretty shell I found!
Vajra: Wow! It's huge and oh-so gorgeous!
Pochacco raises the shell up toward the sky, and it begins to sparkle in every color of the rainbow as it catches the sun's rays.
Meg: It's beautiful! And look at all of the colors it reflects!
Meg: Oh, if you tip it this way, it turns blue! It reminds me of the deep blue Augustean ocean!
Pochacco: Hehe. I'm bringing this piece of treasure back with me, for sure!
Vajra: Good thinking! I could use some treasure of my own. See any other shells around?
The trio set their errand aside and instead focus their energy on shell hunting. But one look around tells them they won't need to hunt that hard.
Pochacco: There's more over there! And over there too! This cave's full of pretty shells!
Vajra: Ooh... It's an all-you-can-pick shell fest!
Meg: What about the... Well, I guess the veggies can wait for a bit...
Vajra: Right, we'll be quick!
Pochacco: It's just a teeny-weeny itsy-bitsy detour!
Meg: Wow! The hue of this one is magnificent! It's closer to being as blue as the Augustean ocean than any shell we've found so far!
Vajra: Look at this one! It's pink and practically see-through! Who knew shells like this even existed!
Pochacco: Nice work, gang! We found plenty of shells!
Meg: We did. But I'm starting to think maybe we should be get back to our errand...
Meg: Wait a sec. Hm?
Meg turns to look back in the direction they came from and discovers three different paths.
Meg: Umm... Do you guys remember which way we came?
Pochacco: Huh... Now that you mention it, I have no clue.
Vajra: Uh... Don't ask me. I was looking down the entire time searching for shells.
Meg: Oh no. Are we lost?
With a frazzled Meg taking the lead, the trio roam the cave. But the more they roam, the more lost they become.
Meg: Wrong way again! Um, well, we just came from there so...
Vajra: I feel like we've been wandering around in circles for a while now.
Pochacco: At this rate, we'll never make it back...
Meg: No, we will, I promise! Oh, I know what I can do!
Meg: Ursula!
Ursula: Sharrrk!
Meg: All right! I'm getting us outta here!
Ursula latched onto her arm, Meg points at one of the cave walls and prepares to attack.
Vajra: Wait, Meg! What are you doing?
Meg: I'm gonna make my own exit by blasting down this wall!
Pochacco: You're gonna what!
Vajra: Don't! Doing that could cause the whole cave to collapse!
Meg: Oh... Right.
Vajra: Besides, it might just lead to us becoming even more lost than we already are.
Ursula: Sharrrk...
Pochacco: Now we're in a pickle...
Vajra: Hmm... I can hear the spirits. They're amused, but they don't seem to know anything that could point us toward the exit.
Meg: Well then, I guess all we can do right now is... walk.
The trio look at each other with desperation, then continue to press onward.

A Detour at Hello Beach: Scene 2

Vajra and Meg follow close behind Pochacco as he chases after a tiny sea creature who happens to guide them right to the exit. Despite finding a way out, they remain lost, having arrived on an unfamiliar beach. With the day gone and no idea how to get back, Meg turns glum. Pochacco and Vajra attempt to console her, but to no avail.

Lost in a cave, Pochacco, Vajra, and Meg walk on aimlessly, hoping to find a way out.
Meg: Don't worry, you two! I'll figure out a way to get us out of here!
Meg: Oh, are either of you tired? I can carry you on my back if you want!
Pochacco: Thanks, Meg, but I'm all right! I've still got lots of energy left in me!
Vajra: Haha, me too. It'll take more than a bit of walking to exhaust me.
Meg: O-okay then. Just don't push yourselves...
Pochacco: Oh, we've reached another fork in the road.
Vajra: Hmm, which way do we go this time? Left or right?
Meg: Ah, I know! What if I investigate one of the paths? You two wait here while I go take a look!
Meg makes for the path leading right, but Vajra stops her.
Vajra: Hold it right there!
Meg: Gah!
Vajra: Calm down, Meg! If you run off alone and lose your way all by yourself, we'll be in deeper trouble!
Vajra: We're lost as it is. It's safer if we just stick together as a trio.
Meg: O-okay then...
Vajra: You're with me, right, Pochacco?
Vajra turns to Pochacco hoping for support, but finds she's been talking to empty space.
Vajra: What the? Where'd he go?
Meg: Ah, he's over there! It looks like he's gazing at something.
Vajra: Pochaccooo? Anybody home? What are you looking at?
Pochacco: Oh, hey, you two. Hehe, this little crab scurrying away caught my eye, so I chased after it.
Meg: A crab, huh... Not some wacky beast, just a regular ol' crab.
Vajra: Haha! You know, they're kinda cute when they're small.
Feeling three pairs of huge eyes following its every move, the crab scuttles away and jumps into a shallow stream of water.
Pochacco: Oh, it went into the water.
Pochacco peers into the stream and sees a school of tiny orange fish swimming up it.
Pochacco: Whoa! Look at all the pretty fish go!
Meg: Pochacco, wait!
Vajra: Haha! There he goes, off on his own again!
Meg: C'mon, Pochacco, this isn't a good time for another one of your detours...
Vajra: It's not like we know where we're going anyway. May as well tag along.
Vajra: Besides, who knows? This stream could just lead us to the exit!
With no other plan in mind, the girls follow behind Pochacco as he lets his curiosity lead the way. And lo and behold...
Vajra: Yes! We've made it out! And it's all thanks to Pochacco's little "detour"!
Pochacco: Hehe. Too bad it took us all day.
Pochacco: By the way, where are we?
Meg: I don't know. I've never seen this part of the beach before. Clues... We need to look for clues!
Darting to and fro, Meg frantically searches for anything that could serve as a hint to their location but finds nothing of note.
Vajra: I have no idea what path we should take to get back. And, unless we wanna get lost again, returning to the cave is out of the question.
Pochacco: Right... Hmm, looks like we're in another pickle.
Upon hearing their dire conversation, Meg's shoulders droop. Head hanging low, negative thoughts begin to consume her.
Meg: I'm useless...
Meg: They invited me to Hello Beach and I've made a mess of the entire trip...
Meg: This place is supposed to be like Auguste, a place where everyone can make happy memories... And yet I...
Vajra: Meg... Now I see why you've been trying so hard.
Pochacco: Wow! Hey, guys, check it out!
Meg: ?
The girls turn to look at what's gotten Pochacco's attention this time. Their eyes widen upon seeing the mysterious blue shimmer on the water's surface.
Vajra: The surface of the water... It's sparkling? Wait, no...
The trio looks closer and discovers the source of the glow—a mass of miniscule, luminescent creatures—drifting in the ocean.
Pochacco: Neato! The water looks so pretty!
Vajra: It's beautiful, like we've stepped into an entirely different world...
Meg: ...
Vajra: Meg, don't be so down on yourself. Sure, we got lost, but thanks to that, we discovered something incredible!
Pochacco: Cheer up, Meg. Everything'll be all right.
Meg: But...
Meg: ...
Unable to form a proper response to Pochacco and Vajra's kind words, Meg falls silent and stares blankly at the blue glow in the water.

A Detour at Hello Beach: Scene 3

The trio decide to spend the night on the unknown beach, and as they gaze at the sky, they catch a glimpse of a shooting star. Moved by Pochacco's wish for her to be happy again, Meg regains her joy and vows to share it with the others by lighting the fireworks she brought. The bright, high-flying display alerts (Captain) and the crew to their location, and they soon come to the trio's rescue.

Pochacco, Vajra, and Meg go from being lost in a cave to being lost on a beach, and decide to spend the night on the unfamiliar shore.
Vajra: Well, since we don't know the way back, I suppose all we can do is stay here until the sun comes up.
Pochacco: Cool! It'll be like a campout!
Vajra: Kind of. We're just missing tents and sleeping bags. Good thing the ground's soft enough to sleep on.
Vajra: But what I could really go for is a hot meal...
Pochacco: Yeah, I'm gettin' kinda hungry too...
Pochacco: Oh, I almost forgot I had candy on me. Here, have a piece!
Vajra: Ooh, don't mind if I do!
Vajra: Nom... It tastes like apples!
Pochacco: Om nom... This one tastes like grapes!
Pochacco: Want a piece, Meg? I've got plenty of flavors!
Meg: Th-Thanks...
Meg: Mm... It's sweet.
Vajra: Phew... You know, it's pretty tranquil out here. No lights to get in the way of the stars either.
Vajra plops down onto the ground face up, and Pochacco and Meg follow suit. There they lie, quietly gazing at the night sky.
Meg: ...
Pochacco: We'll find a way back tomorrow, Meg. Don't worry, all right? Everything'll be a-okay!
Meg: Will it though? I just feel so worthless...
Before Meg can say another word, a thin streak of light flashes across the sky.
Vajra: Wow! It's a shooting star! I gotta think of a good wish quick! Grrrr!
Meg: Please let us get back safely please let us get back safely please let us get back safely!
Lying next to Meg, Pochacco claps his petite paws together and makes a wish.
Pochacco: I wish for Meg to be happy again.
Meg: Pochacco...
Pochacco: Hehe... You've just been so blue. I thought I'd wish for you to go back to your usual cheerful self.
Vajra: Hahaha! Well, aren't you just the sweetest, Pochacco!
Meg: Thank you, Pochacco. This whole time... I've only been thinking about myself.
Meg: But being moody isn't gonna help us get anywhere, right?
Meg: Your kind words have opened my eyes, Pochacco. I'm feeling happier already!
Pochacco: That's great! Looks like wishing on a shooting star really does work!
Meg: All right, now it's my turn to bring the fun to you guys!
From her small leather bag, Meg pulls out a tube.
Meg: Hehe, I thought it'd be a blast to light fireworks at the end of the day, so I brought some with me!
Meg: Here we go! Keep your distance, all right?
Meg places a firework onto the ground, lights the fuse, and takes a few steps back.
The fuse burns shorter and shorter until...
The firework ignites with a loud crack, sending colorful red sparks flying across the night sky.
Pochacco: Wow, it's so pretty!
Vajra: Ooh, and look how high it goes!
Meg: I hope my fireworks bring some joy to our impromptu campout.
Vajra: Oh, it definitely did, Meg! It shot so high up in the air! I bet the sparks could be seen from far... away...
Vajra: Hey! Maybe we can use your fireworks to alert the others to our location?
Meg: Oh my gosh! Great idea!
Just as they've figured out a potential plan to get help, the trio hear a group of voices call out to them.
Hapidanbui Boys: Pochacco! Everyone!
Pochacco: Whoa! Hey, guys! No way, you found us!
  1. Good to see you're all safe!

Choose: Good to see you're all safe!
Pochacco: Thanks for coming to the rescue, Captain! And everyone else, too!
Meg: Oh, thank the skies. Now we can finally go back!
Vajra: Phew! All's well that ends well!
Eustace: Are you all right, Pochacco?
Pochacco: Yup, I'm a-okay. Feelin' great, actually!
Eustace: Good.
Eustace: Vajra and Meg... It seems they're fine as well.
Kirimichan: Thank goodness! I was wondering what might've happened to you all. You had me scared for a second!
Vyrn: You said it. When we heard you guys hadn't come back, we started to worry.
Vyrn: So how'd you three find yourselves all the way out here?
Vajra: Oh. We got lost in a cave.
Kerokerokeroppi: A cave? I don't remember there being caves at Hello Beach.
Pochacco: Yeah, and I'm the one that found it! It was so blue and pretty... I got curious and wandered on in.
Meg: We were only supposed to be in there for a short while...
Vajra: But short turned into long, and we somehow found ourselves out here.
Lyria: Well, you're all safe now, and that's all that matters!
Kirimichan: Exactly! So, how about we head back together? The beach house is just a hop and a skip away!
Meg: What? It's close by?
Bad Badtz-Maru: C'mon, you didn't know? Psh, no wonder you got lost.
Hangyodon: Let's put that behind us. You're in one piece, and that's what's important.
Pochacco: Sorry for worrying you all...
Pochacco: Oh, wait! Vajra, Meg! C'mere real quick. I've got an idea!
Vajra and Meg crouch down and Pochacco begins to whisper into their ears.
Pochacco: Psst, psst...
Vajra: Ah, good thinking, Pochacco!
Meg: Let's do it!
Pekkle: What're you three up to now?
The trio take out the shells they found in the cave and pass them out to their friends, one by one.
Pochacco: Guys, we're really sorry for making you all worry. These are the shells we picked up back in the cave—and we want you to have them.
Lyria: Oh my, they're beautiful! Who knew Hello Beach was home to so many gorgeous shells!
Eustace: Hm. The way the light reflects off of this one makes it look like it's changing colors.
Eustace gazes at the large rainbow-colored shell Pochacco gifted him.
Eustace: ...
Pochacco: Out of all the shells I found today, that one's definitely my favorite!
Eustace: And you're giving it to me?
Eustace: Thank you, Pochacco. I will treasure it forever.
Tuxedo Sam: Ooh, mine's as blue as the ocean.
Meg: It's the same color as the ocean of Auguste. It was so beautiful, I couldn't help but scoop it up.
Meg: It's blue just like you, Sam! It was practically made for you!
Tuxedo Sam: Hehe. We're two of a kind. Thanks, Meg!
Kirimichan: My shell is pink... and practically translucent. It's adorable!
Vajra: Sorry we couldn't get the veggies for you like we promised, Kirimichan.
Vajra: Was everything okay at the beach house?
Lyria: Well, we completely ran out of vegetables, so we tried putting seafood into the yakisoba instead!
Kirimichan: We changed up the seasoning too by using salt instead of yakisoba sauce. Everyone went crazy for it!
Kirimichan: It was so well-received, we decided to add it to the menu as our new dish—seafood yakisoba!
Kirimichan: I think future visitors to Hello Beach are going to love it too!
Hangyodon: It was delicious! You guys should try it out!
Kirimichan: To be honest, if you actually made it back in time with the veggies, we might've never thought of it!
Vajra: So, in a way, Pochacco's little detours helped bring seafood yakisoba to the Hello Beach beach house!
Kirimichan: You might be right! We couldn't have done it without you, Pochacco! Thank... you, I think?
Pochacco: Hehe, glad I could help!
Kirimichan: You got it! All right, how about we head back for real this time!
Kirimichan: You guys must be hungry. How about I fry up a special batch of seafood yakisoba just for you!
Pochacco: Woohoo! Let's hurry back!
Vyrn: No getting sidetracked this time, ya hear? Don't want you gettin' lost again.
Meg: Haha, when something catches Pochacco's attention, there's nothing that can stop him from taking a detour.
Pochacco: Hehe... You know I love a good trip off the beaten path!
With smiling faces and warm hearts, the beachgoers journey back to familiar sands.
What new delight will Pochacco's insatiable curiosity bring next? Only time will tell.
