A Sweltering Eternal Getaway - Chapter 5: Converging Feelings - Episode 3

Seox encounters Yurius on the street and, aware of Yurius's past of having once committed murder as well, asks him what he thinks about living without a way to atone. When Yurius talks of his own reason to live and calls himself a monster, Seox assures him that he is not a monster. After they part ways, Yurius thinks to himself that he would like to speak with Seox again someday.

Yurius: Whew...
Tentacles: ...
Yurius: I thought I told you not to come out unless instructed to.
Yurius pulls on the sleeves of his overcoat as if to hide the tentacles protruding from his back.
Tentacles: ...?
Yurius: It's fine. I'm relieved, even.
Yurius: Under the circumstances just now, His Highness the prince could have easily killed His Majesty and made it look like an accident—but he didn't.
Yurius: The two are family after all. There was no need to worry over the safety of His Majesty.
Tentacles: ...!
Tentacles: ...?
Yurius: Hm?
When his tentacles point to something, Yurius raises his head to see a masked figure standing nearby.
Seox: Have you found the king?
Yurius: Yes, we located him just now. I apologize for the mayhem.
Tentacles: ...!
Seox: ...
Yurius: Stay hidden.
Tentacles: ...!
Seox: What is that power you have?
Yurius: ...
Galia's Captain: Murdering the previous king—your own father—wasn't enough for you, was it? I guess this kind of savagery is only to be expected from an unwanted child like you.
Yurius: (He was there back then. I'm sure he heard it.)
Yurius: Are you here to question me about the crime I committed?
Seox: How did you know?
Yurius: ...
Yurius: Sorry. I did not intend to pry into the pasts of others...
Yurius: But my duty is to prioritize the king's safety, so I had made the necessary investigations on everyone staying at the same inn as His Majesty.
Yurius: And from that, I happened to learn of the crime you were charged with.
Seox: ...
Yurius: Don't misunderstand. I've heard of you from (Captain) and do not believe you to be a threat of any kind.
Yurius: I am simply assuming that you are taking an interest in me because of a reason related to your past.
Seox: You're right in your assumption. You caught my interest.
Seox: There are people around me who have committed crimes through fighting the mafia and villains. But I'm not like them—I took the lives of innocents.
Seox: I don't know much about your land, but... the king you killed wasn't a villain, was he?
Yurius: No, he wasn't.
Seox: I... figured as much.
Yurius: Criminals atoning for their sins—we may be similar in that sense.
Seox: Protecting the current king and working toward a brighter future for your country... That's your way of atoning, huh?
Yurius: ...?
Yes...
Seox: I wasn't being sarcastic there.
Seox: I was just thinking about how, in my case... I realized there was nothing I could do to atone for my sins... when I met that man.
Yurius: Ah. Right, your clan...
Seox: It was something I caused with my own hands. No need for sympathy.
Yurius: ...
Seox: What... do you think of me?
Yurius: What do you mean?
Seox: Do you think me selfish to continue living and walking toward a future I wish for, despite having no way to atone for my sins?
Yurius: That is a difficult question. But if I were to answer frankly...
Yurius: I believe that a criminal should live to atone, but not be restricted to it.
Seox: What makes you say that?
Yurius: I once tried to throw everything away and end my own life.
Yurius: But a friend then risked his own life and came to save me.
Yurius: What's more, he told me that he was going to change the country so that I will never feel regret for choosing to live.
Yurius: He just wanted me there. When I heard that, I felt that I, too, needed to face those honest feelings and respond to them accordingly.
Seox: Yeah. I know that feeling.
Seox: Ever since I murdered my clan with my own two hands, I'd been waiting for the day I'd finally be punished for my crimes.
Seox: It's embarrassing, but I was even afraid that I'd be called a monster, so I lived while continuing to hide myself in the shadows.
Seox: But in the midst of that, I met the Eternals... and (Captain)'s crew.
Yurius: And they saved you.
Gran is the Main Character

Seox: They did. Especially (Captain)...
Djeeta is the Main Character

Seox: They did. Especially (Captain)...
Seox: The captain suddenly challenged me to a battle and defeated me, saying that the winner is now the bigger monster. (Captain) was trying to encourage me.
Yurius: Sounds like something (Captain) would do.
Seox: That's when I thought about the people who accepted me for who I am. I didn't want to let them down.
Seox: It was then that someone who blamed me for what I did appeared. He came to give me the punishment for my crimes.
Seox: But... I wanted to live. So I fought with all that I had. I was desperate.
Seox: I knew that I deserved to die by his hands. Yet... I couldn't give up on my life.
Seox: The light I had always wished for. I'd yearned, despaired, surrendered... and then that light saved me. I was finally able to reach my hand out toward it.
Seox: That is why I fought—to protect that light. Even if it wasn't a righteous choice, I didn't want to lose the future in which I could live with my friends.
Yurius: Righteous...
Yurius: It may not have been a righteous choice, but I believe it could still be a good choice.
Yurius: It's because you're alive now that you were able to save both myself and this place.
Seox: I see... A good choice, huh?
Seox: I appreciate the kind words.
Yurius: They are not only for show. I'm speaking from the heart.
Yurius smiles and puts a hand on his own back.
Yurius: Speaking of which, I haven't answered your original question yet.
Tentacles: ...
Seox: ...
Yurius: This is a part of the primal beast Destructio that dwells within me.
Yurius: It is with this power that I committed murder, and pushed the country I should've been protecting to the brink of destruction. That is my crime.
Seox: I see...
Yurius: I may look and behave like a normal person...
Yurius: But inside me is a hideous and cruel monster that could awaken at any given moment and pose a threat to the kingdom once more.
Seox: But you're not a monster. No matter what you're struggling with, you are still you.
Seox: You're (Captain)'s friend, aren't you? I'm sure the captain would never forgive anyone for calling you a monster.
Yurius: ...!
Seox: And it's not just (Captain). The guy in the red cape, and the kindhearted king...
Seox: They would never see you as a monster.
Yurius: ...
Yurius: You're right... I'm the only one who calls what I'm harboring inside me a monster.
Seox: Then just stop doing it. I, for one, don't want to call you a monster.
Yurius: Right... I'll change my ways.
Yurius: (I know... that acceptance is necessary in order to leave the past behind.)
Seox: Now I kind of understand why (Captain) kept insisting to me that I wasn't a monster.
Yurius: Thank you, Seox. I'm glad we were able to talk.
Seox: Likewise. Um... thank you.
Their conversation comes to a close. Yurius retracts his tentacles and begins to walk, passing by Seox on his way.
Seox: Let's live on.
Yurius: ...!
Yurius: Yes. Let's.
With these words, Seox turns and walks away.
Yurius: ...
Tentacles: ...?
Yurius: Yes. I hope we can talk again in the future.
As Yurius goes on his way, his tentacles slither back into his body contently.
