What Makes the Sky Blue - Chapter 6: Beasts - Episode 1

Lyria dreams of Sandalphon's past—of his frustration, suffering, and despair at his very own existence. When she awakens, she sees Rosetta, who has snuck in to find her.

Lyria: What is this?
Lyria: A dream? Someone's memories? It's all flowing into me...
Sandalphon: Lucifer! You were here all along!
Lucifer: Sandalphon. All is well, I take it?
Sandalphon: Yes. Nothing's changed regarding me nor the research lab.
Sandalphon: Oh, but there is one thing...
Lucifer: What is it? Are you still contemplating your purpose?
Sandalphon: Yes. It weighs heavily on my mind. Why haven't I been given one after all this time?
Sandalphon: The equilibrium of the tetra-elements... The repulsion of hostile enemies...
Sandalphon: All archangels have been given a purpose so that they may support you as you govern evolution. And yet all I do is pass each day in peace and quiet.
Lucifer: How many times must I repeat myself? That is not something you should be concerned with.
Sandalphon: But...
Sandalphon: ...
Sandalphon: I just want to be useful to you...
Lucifer: Hello, my friend. May I speak with you? It's about Sandalphon.
???: Looks like you've been keeping a sharp eye on him. You're making the other archangels jealous.
Lucifer: I created him as you instructed me to, but even I don't understand his purpose.
Lucifer: Isn't it time for you to reveal that to me? For what reason was he created?
???: I hadn't told you because for the time being it wasn't important. Very well.
???: He's your spare in case something happens to you, and you become unable to fulfill your duties.
???: The idea was for him to awaken temporarily to fill in for you until you fully recovered.
Lucifer: A spare to act as a substitute?
???: Heh heh heh. Realistically speaking, that won't be necessary.
???: You've far surpassed my wildest dreams. You exist on a higher plane. Sandalphon is useless.
???: That scrap will be disposed of at an appropriate time. I suppose you may keep him if you've grown attached to him.
Lucifer: ...
???: Now enough about that. I'd like your opinion on a new specimen. Come. It's in the new wing.
Lucifer: Understood...
Sandalphon: I'm useless scrap? How could I be nothing more than Lucifer's backup?
Sandalphon: It must be a lie... But then just what the hell is the meaning of my existence?
Sandalphon: ...!
Lyria: Unh? Why am I here?
Sandalphon: Rise and shine. You lost consciousness.
Lyria: You!
Sandalphon: Would you like some coffee? I'm afraid I'm all out of sugar unfortunately.
Lyria awakes in the wilds of Lumacie. Sandalphon is also there, not too far away.
Lyria: No, thank you. Um, what's going on here?
Sandalphon: This is where I—no, where we were created. There used to be an Astral research lab here.
Sandalphon: I must say your... form wasn't exactly what I had expected, oh girl in blue.
Lyria: What do you mean by form? Do you know something about me?
Sandalphon: Well, more than you think I do. But in any case, that has nothing to do with the matters at hand.
Sandalphon: Soon the story of the skies and Astrals will end, and a new tale of creation will be told.
Lyria: N-no! Our story won't end!
Sandalphon: Hm?
Lyria: (Captain)'s super, super strong!
Lyria: It doesn't matter how painful or sad things get; (Captain) can say anything to move anyone's heart!
Lyria: I've been cheered up so many times by those words, and I always will be.
Lyria: (Captain) is amazing! I won't let you think less of my captain!
Sandalphon: And that's why (Captain) will come according to my predictions.
Lyria: ...
Sandalphon: Whatever. Wait and see. You can cry if you want.
Lyria: I won't cry!
Sandalphon: Heh.
Lyria: Oh... (Captain)... Vyrn... Everyone...
Rosetta: Lyria.
Lyria: Huh? Rosetta—
Rosetta: Shh. Just wait a little longer. Don't worry. I'll get you out of there.
Sandalphon: ...
