Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Opening Act

A boy and his younger sister go deep into the shadows of a mountain forest, seeking out their parents. Somewhere distant, Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke dash towards their next mission upon a sunlit path.

Little Sister: W-wait! I don't wanna be left behind.
Big Brother: Then less talky, more walky. Come on.
Little Sister: But I'm scared. We've never been to this part of the woods.
Big Brother: Look, no one's forcing you to do anything. You know the way home.
Little Sister: But Uncle said there had to be two people.
Big Brother: ...
Big Brother: Do you want to come or not?
Little Sister: Um...
Big Brother: I guess you're fine with never seeing Mom and Dad again.
Little Sister: No I'm not...
Little Sister: I miss them... Mommy... Daddy...
Big Brother: Then stop crying. And move those feet!
Little Sister: Sniff...
Big Brother: Elly!
Little Sister: I-I'm coming! Please don't be angry no more. I promise I'll stop crying.
Big Brother: I'm not mad, all right? Here.
The girl takes her brother's proffered hand. With a chubby palm, she smears her tears across her cheeks.
Little Sister: I'm sorry, Lyle.
Big Brother: I said I wasn't mad... You ready to go now?
Little Sister: Yeah.
Little Sister: Eep!
Big Brother: It's fine. It's just a bird.
Little Sister: I'm okay... I'm okay...
The siblings are now deep in the woods, where the trees grow huddled close together, their gnarled branches shutting out the sun.
Little Sister: Mommy? Daddy? Where are you? I'm scared.
Big Brother: They're close, okay? Don't worry.
Big Brother: We're gonna find them... I promise.
Little Sister: Lyle?
Big Brother: Hm?
Little Sister: Piggyback, please.
Big Brother: Sigh... Only 'cause you asked so nicely.
Big Brother: Hop on.
Little Sister: Okay.
Big Brother: You hanging on for dear life?
Little Sister: Yup!
Inosuke Hashibira: Nom nom nom!
Tanjiro Kamado: Inosuke... Please, slow down. You're going to choke.
Inosuke Hashibira: Bwomabee! (But I'm starving!)
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Ew! Inosuke! Once food goes in your mouth, it needs to stay there!
Tanjiro Kamado: If you're that hungry, you can have one of mine.
Inosuke Hashibira: Nom!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Tanjiro. You can't keep babying him like this.
Tanjiro Kamado: Don't worry. The girls at the Butterfly Mansion packed extra. There'll be enough.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: But this isn't about the riceballs...
Tanjiro Kamado: Mm...
Tanjiro Kamado: Food really does taste better with friends... under a big blue sky...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Yeah... Wonder when our first picnic with Nezuko will be. I hope it's soon.
Tanjiro Kamado: Me too.
Inosuke Hashibira: Gulp... Yeah! First one done!
Inosuke Hashibira: Hey! Stop talking, start chewing!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Why's he like this! Tanjiro, I don't wanna go on this mission anymore. Mr. "I'm the King" over there is gonna mess everything up.
Tanjiro Kamado: Come on. He's not that bad...
Tanjiro Kamado: Anyway, we really should get moving... I want to reach the village before sundown.
Inosuke Hashibira: Yeah! So chew faster, Monitsu.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Sir, yes sir...
Inosuke Hashibira: Minions! Move out!
Tanjiro Kamado: Time to go, Nezuko.
Tanjiro picks up a smooth wooden box and shoulders it gently, so as not to rattle its contents.
Tanjiro Kamado: You ready, Zenitsu? Let's follow him.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: He doesn't even know where he's going. He's running full speed to nowhere.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Sigh... Guess someone has to keep him out of trouble.
They begin to dash down the dirt road, their shadows dancing against the luminous dust.

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 1: Scent of the Skies - Episode 1

The siblings reach a pair of shrines within which, they were told, their parents are waiting. When they thrust them open, a whirlpool of crimson appears between the shrines and dyes the sky red. Somewhere distant, a red vortex rips Tanjiro and Nezuko away from their companions.

Little Sister: Lyle, it's so dark. I think it's getting late.
Big Brother: I know! I know, but... we might be close...
The sun has set. The shadows between the trees have grown so thick, it feels hard to breathe.
Big Brother: Gasp!
Big Brother: Elly, look! We made it!
The boy points at two splintery shrines, ravaged by time and discolored by dirt.
Little Sister: Are those the "Fowbidden Shrines"?
Big Brother: Yeah, I think so... I mean, there's two, just like Uncle Bard said there'd be.
Little Sister: Um... We hafta open them, right? Together.
Big Brother: Mm-hm. It's gotta be at the exact same time too. You take the one in front, and I'll—
Little Sister: Wait! I'm scared!
The girl feels her brother's hand slipping from her fingers and yanks it back.
Little Sister: Don't let go of my hand... Please.
Big Brother: Elly, look at the shrines. There's two of them, right?
Big Brother: If we hold hands, how are we gonna reach both at the same time?
Little Sister: I dunno... but...
Big Brother: It'll be okay. I'll be right over there.
The shrines are only a few feet apart.
Big Brother: You'll still be able to see me and hear me. Nothing to be scared of, right?
Little Sister: Yeah, but...
Little Sister: The old lady told us... If we open the shrines, ghouls will come out.
Big Brother: Come on, Elly.
Big Brother: We're literally standing right in front of the finish line! Listen, I've heard about the ghouls too, like a million times.
Big Brother: But I don't believe those stories. I believe our uncle. And remember what he said? On the other side of that door...
Little Sister: Mommy and Daddy are waiting.
Big Brother: Yeah. You wanna see them, don't you?
Little Sister: I do...
Big Brother: Then you've gotta be brave. Can you be brave?
Little Sister: I can.
Big Brother: Atta girl.
The boy gives his sister two encouraging pats on the head. He then nudges her until she stands directly in front of a shrine.
Big Brother: Don't touch anything yet. When I tell you to, untie the rope. Then we'll open the doors.
Big Brother: Got it?
Little Sister: Uh-huh... Got it.
Big Brother: Great. Now, give me a second, okay?
He jogs to the second shrine.
Big Brother: Elly! You still good?
Little Sister: Yeah. I'm okay.
Big Brother: All right. Let's do this.
Big Brother: Untie the rope!
Big Brother: Next up, the doors. On the count of three... One! Two!
Little Sister: Three!
Big Brother: ...!
Little Sister: Mommy? You in there?
The shrines exhale a breath of chill air that makes the boy jerk back in surprise. But the girl reaches out her hands.
Big Brother: Elly! Wait!
Little Sister: Huh?
The space between the two shrines begins to swirl.
Siblings: Whoa!
Ahh!
Scarlet seeps from the vortex and travels through the air like blood percolating through water.
It is too late for the flush of sunset and too early for the blush of dawn. The red filling the woods is an unnatural red, a warning red, the lurid red of disaster.
Inosuke Hashibira: ...!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Oof!
Tanjiro Kamado: Zenitsu? Are you all right?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: ...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Inosuke! Why would you just stop like that?
Inosuke Hashibira: It's red.
Tanjiro Kamado: What are you... Oh, the sky?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Um, that's kind of what happens at sunset. You know, mother nature doing her thing?
Tanjiro Kamado: But tonight, it's especially pretty... which means another beautiful day tomorrow!
Inosuke Hashibira: That's not what I—Monjiro!
Tanjiro Kamado: Sniff...
Tanjiro Kamado: ...!
Inosuke Hashibira: Behind you!
Tanjiro turns.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Eep!
Tanjiro Kamado: Get back!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Th-the sky's swirly! That's so not mother nature! It's Blood Demon Art!
Tanjiro Kamado: No. I don't smell any demons. But something tells me that vortex is dangerous.
Inosuke Hashibira: Doesn't feel like anything I know... It's giving me chills.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Ah!
Inosuke Hashibira: We're getting sucked in!
Tanjiro Kamado: Run! Hurry!
The boys begin to scrabble along the dirt road, but the wind digs its fingers into their clothes, dragging them back towards the vortex.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap! We're not gonna make it! It's too strong!
Tanjiro Kamado: ...!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: What the? Tanjiro!
Tanjiro Kamado: Don't stop! Keep going!
Inosuke Hashibira: Kentarooo!
Tanjiro Kamado: Ruuun!

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 1: Scent of the Skies - Episode 2

Tanjiro, with Nezuko still safe on his back, awakens in a forest. There, he stumbles upon a boy named Lyle. He learns that Lyle opened a pair of shrines, but his actions resulted in his sister being drawn into a whirlpool and the appearance of aberrations. Those very aberrations surround Tanjiro and Lyle, but before they can move in for the kill, Rengoku appears.

Tanjiro Kamado: Gah!
Tanjiro Kamado: Cough... Cough... I think... I hit my ribs...
Tanjiro Kamado: What? Where'd all these trees come from?
Tanjiro climbs unsteadily to his feet, turns his head, and furrows his brows.
Tanjiro Kamado: (That's odd... Last I remember, I was definitely not in a forest. Was I sent flying? But all I could see were rice fields for miles around.)
Tanjiro Kamado: ...!
And how...
He looks up and sees sunlight passing through the dappling leaves.
Tanjiro Kamado: (It was dusk three seconds ago... Did I pass out?)
Tanjiro Kamado: Zenitsu! Inosuke!
Tanjiro Kamado: (I guess they aren't here.)
Tanjiro Kamado: Wait. Who's that?
Big Brother: ...
Tanjiro Kamado: Hey, are you okay? Hold on!
Big Brother: Mm...
Tanjiro Kamado: Thank goodness... You're alive.
Tanjiro Kamado: A little scratched up, but you'll be fine.
Tanjiro Kamado: (His clothes... Looks like he's from the city. But then... what's he doing all alone in the mountains?)
Tanjiro Kamado: ...!
Something's coming!
Tanjiro steps in front of the unconscious boy and draws his sword.
Monster: ...!
Tanjiro Kamado: Is that a dog? But why's it so big!
Monster: Grr...
Tanjiro Kamado: Hah!
Monster: ...!
Tanjiro Kamado: Incoming!
Tanjiro Kamado: What kind of bird is that!
Monster: Screech!
Tanjiro Kamado: Hyah!
Monster: Fshaa...
Tanjiro Kamado: Ah!
Monster: Fshaa!
Tanjiro Kamado: It's a... It's a—
Tanjiro Kamado: Flower monster!
Tanjiro Kamado: Pant... Pant... What were those things? Some kind of illusion? Yokai?
Tanjiro Kamado: Well, just be glad they weren't strong, I guess.
Tanjiro Kamado: They didn't smell like any animals I know. Actually...
Tanjiro Kamado: ...
Tanjiro Kamado: This whole forest feels strange. The scent of the wood, the earth, and the wind...
Tanjiro Kamado: It's all so unfamiliar.
Big Brother: Nn... Ngh...
Tanjiro Kamado: ...!
Are you all right?
Big Brother: Huh?
Big Brother: Elly!
Tanjiro Kamado: Wait! You can't be moving around yet!
Big Brother: Elly! Elly!
Have you seen her? She's my sister!
Tanjiro Kamado: No, you're the only person I've met in these woods. You came here with your sister?
Big Brother: Yes... I didn't think things would... What am I... I have to find her!
Tanjiro Kamado: Yes, but first you have to calm down. Then we can search together, okay?
Tanjiro Kamado: My name's Tanjiro Kamado. What's yours?
Big Brother: Lyle.
Tanjiro Kamado: Lyle... That's a cool name. I've never heard one like it. Could you write it for me?
Lyle: Huh? You don't just want me to spell it? Uh, sure, okay...
Tanjiro Kamado: ...?
The smell of wet soil and duff wafts into the air as Lyle scratches at the ground with his finger. Tanjiro looks over his shoulder and blinks.
Tanjiro Kamado: I can't read it.
Lyle: You can't read?
Tanjiro Kamado: No, I can, but it's just... This writing...
Lyle: Is my handwriting that bad?
Tanjiro Kamado: No! It's beautiful! I think! I mean, I can't tell but...
Tanjiro Kamado: I'm sorry! I'm just an ignorant country boy! Don't listen to me!
Lyle: ...?
Lyle: You know, Elly's not good at reading either. She makes up funny words sometimes.
Lyle: So I spend a lot of time teaching her, but...
Tanjiro Kamado: You're a great brother, aren't you?
Lyle: Not if I don't find her.
Lyle staggers to his feet.
Lyle: Ugh... Ouch!
Tanjiro Kamado: Don't worry. I've got you. It's your leg, right? Come on, show me.
Lyle: ...
Tanjiro Kamado: Doesn't look like any bones are broken. But I think you sprained your ankle.
Lyle: I'll be fine. Just a little bruised and achy, that's all.
Tanjiro Kamado: No, that is not all. You can't walk like this. What are you going to do if your injuries get worse?
Lyle: What am I going to do if I can't find Elly! I have to go...
Tanjiro Kamado: I know. I'm saying I'll carry you. Climb on.
Tanjiro shifts Nezuko's box to one shoulder and crouches down.
Lyle: But...
Tanjiro Kamado: I can take it. Anyways, I need you to make sure we don't get lost.
Lyle: Me?
Tanjiro Kamado: Yep. It's perfect. I'll walk, and you tell me where to go. Think you can do that?
Lyle: Yeah... I can.
Lyle clambers awkwardly onto Tanjiro's back.
Lyle: Um... What's in the box?
Tanjiro Kamado: Something precious to me—more precious than life, even.
Tanjiro Kamado: It might make for an uncomfortable ride. Sorry.
Lyle: It's fine! I've had worse!
By the way, um, thanks for everything.
Tanjiro Kamado: No problem.
Tanjiro Kamado: So, which way do we go?
Lyle: That way... Deeper into the woods.
Tanjiro Kamado: All right. Hold on tight!
Lyle: You sure I'm not too heavy?
Tanjiro Kamado: Thanks for asking! But yes, I'm sure.
Tanjiro Kamado: I carry my sister all the time. A little extra weight won't bother me.
Lyle: I wish I was as strong as you... You know, I was piggy-backing Elly too. But just at the beginning.
Lyle: As we kept going, I could feel her weighing me down... So I got mad and told her she could walk or get left behind.
Tanjiro Kamado: I see...
Lyle: I kept pushing her around, even though she was so scared...
Tanjiro Kamado: Lyle, do you mind telling me what happened? How'd you and your sister get split up?
Lyle: We opened up these shrines. We were only trying to see our parents, but...
Tanjiro Kamado: Your parents live in a shrine?
Lyle: No... They don't live there. They're dead.
Tanjiro Kamado: ...
Lyle: But those shrines I was talking about... We heard if you opened both at once, they'd connect to the spirit world.
Lyle: I'd give anything to see my parents again! So I made Elly come with me, but I didn't think...
Tanjiro Kamado: It's okay, Lyle. I understand.
Lyle: It all happened so fast. Something hit me, and I went flying. Then all these ghouls started pouring out!
Tanjiro Kamado: Ghouls? Did they look like dogs or birds or flowers, by any chance?
Lyle: No, those are just plain old monsters. These were ghouls. And they were way creepier.
Tanjiro Kamado: Plain old monsters?
Lyle: Then, I don't know how, but Elly disappeared. It looked like she got sucked into something, but I couldn't investigate.
Lyle: I tried, but the ghouls just kept coming and coming and I got scared and—
Lyle clings onto Tanjiro, trying to keep from drowning in his emotions.
Lyle: I ran. I left Elly... and ran.
Lyle: But I'm her brother. It's my job to protect her!
Tanjiro Kamado: You're right. It is.
Tanjiro Kamado: And that's why you're going back. This time, you're going to save her.
Lyle: You don't think it's too late?
Tanjiro Kamado: No. I won't let it be.
Tanjiro Kamado: ...!
Lyle: The sky turned red! It's them!
Aberration: ...
Tanjiro Kamado: Are these the ghouls?
Lyle: Y-yeah!
Tanjiro Kamado: (They look nothing like the monsters I saw before. And they smell far more dangerous.)
Aberration: ...
Lyle: There's more of them now!
Tanjiro Kamado: Okay, Lyle. Listen to me.
Tanjiro Kamado: We've been cornered. I have no choice but to fight.
Tanjiro Kamado: I'm going to let you off my back, but I need you to stay near me. That's the only way I can protect you.
Tanjiro Kamado: Do you understand?
Lyle: Yeah. Stay near you. Got it.
Tanjiro Kamado: Good. I knew you were a brave kid.
Tanjiro Kamado: Now, take one step back.
Lyle: Okay.
Tanjiro Kamado: If you get scared, close your eyes. I'll keep you safe, I promise.
Aberration: ...!
Tanjiro Kamado: Hah!
Tanjiro Kamado: Hi-yah!
Aberration: ...!
Tanjiro Kamado: (They're not demons... right? I mean, they don't smell the same. And the sun's still up.)
Tanjiro Kamado: (But if they aren't demons, what in the world...)
Tanjiro Kamado: (No! Fight first, think later!)
Aberration: ...!
Tanjiro Kamado: ...!
Tanjiro Kamado: (What are all these smells? I can't recognize any of them! Which one's the opening thread?)
Tanjiro Kamado: Total Concentration, Water Breathing First Form...
Tanjiro Kamado: Water Surface Slash!
Aberration: ...!
Tanjiro Kamado: Yes!
Tanjiro Kamado: (I got one! They're really not like demons. I can't find their weak spot—but I don't need to!)
Tanjiro Kamado: (If I can just—)
Aberration: ...!
Lyle: Eep!
Tanjiro Kamado: They're still coming?
Aberration: ...!
Tanjiro Kamado: ...!
Aberration: ...
Tanjiro Kamado: Hah!
Aberration: ...!
Tanjiro Kamado: (Total Concentration, Water Breathing...)
Tanjiro Kamado: Fourth Form... Striking Tide!
Tanjiro Kamado: There's no end to them!
Lyle: Tanjiro! Behind you!
Tanjiro Kamado: We're surrounded!
Aberration: ...!
Tanjiro Kamado: No!
???: Blooming Flame Undulation!
Tanjiro Kamado: What just happened?
???: On your guard! This fight is not over! Let no harm come to the boy!
Tanjiro Kamado: I won't!

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 1: Scent of the Skies - Episode 3

Rengoku and Giyu fell the aberrations. They tell Tanjiro that they too were spirited by a red vortex to this strange mountain, where monstrosities that are not demons prowl among the trees.

Aberration: ...
Tanjiro Kamado: Amazing...
Aberration: ...!
Lyle: ...!
Tanjiro Kamado: Watch out!
Giyu Tomioka: Hah!
Tanjiro Kamado: Tomioka?
Giyu Tomioka: Are you all right?
Tanjiro Kamado: Yes. Thank you!
Tanjiro Kamado: No. Lyle! Are you all right?
Lyle: Yeah, I'm still in one piece.
Tanjiro Kamado: Thank goodness...
Lyle: Tanjiro, do you know these people?
Tanjiro Kamado: Yes. This is Tomioka, and that's Rengoku.
Tanjiro Kamado: And they might've just saved our lives.
Giyu Tomioka: Saved you... from what? Those didn't seem like demons.
Tanjiro Kamado: I'm not too sure... But I don't think they were demons either. They smelled different.
Kyojuro Rengoku: "Smelled," you say?
Tanjiro Kamado: Yes. I can identify things by scent.
Kyojuro Rengoku: So you can sniff out demons... A valuable skill!
Kyojuro Rengoku: But we have more urgent things to speak of... Tell me, Kamado.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Why are you here?
Tanjiro Kamado: Huh? Well, I, um...
Tanjiro Kamado: Wait. Come to think of it, why are you two here?
Tanjiro Kamado: I was heading to my next mission, when a red vortex appeared in the sky and sucked me in and—
Giyu Tomioka: The next thing you knew, you were here... on this mountain.
Tanjiro Kamado: That's right.
Oh no... Don't tell me...
Kyojuro Rengoku: Yes. We saw it too. The red vortex!
Kyojuro Rengoku: I had just taken leave of the Master of the Mansion when...
Kyojuro Rengoku: Hm?
Kyojuro Rengoku: Tomioka!
Giyu Tomioka: ...?
Kyojuro Rengoku: I had no idea you were still here! Are you headed for town? Then we will go with you!
Giyu Tomioka: No. I—
Shinobu Kocho: Oh, Tomioka...
Shinobu Kocho: We so rarely get to spend time together. Is there any reason we can't come along?
Giyu Tomioka: ...
Shinobu Kocho: Well, haven't you anything to say? Why must you always be so...
Kyojuro Rengoku: Hungry! He must be hungry!
Kyojuro Rengoku: When we reach town, let us find a place to eat—
Kyojuro Rengoku: ...!
Shinobu Kocho: What's happening?
Giyu Tomioka: Kocho!
Giyu shoves Shinobu out from beneath the ravenous mouth of the vortex.
Shinobu Kocho: ...!
Giyu Tomioka: Run!
Kyojuro Rengoku: Warn the others! Protect the Master!
Shinobu Kocho: Rengoku! Tomioka! No!

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 1: Scent of the Skies - Episode 4

Sierokarte sends the crew on a mission to Rayle, an island where people have been mysteriously vanishing for many years. The Grandcypher also briefly flies over Frey Island, which is said to be big brother to Rayle.

Vyrn: So, uh... We sure this is Rayle Island?
Lyria: It has to be, right? I mean, it looked like the smaller one from the Grandcypher.
Vyrn: Oh right. 'Cause they call Rayle the baby brother island... And Frey Island next door is its big bro.
Lyria: Yeah. Since they're lined up so close together. Isn't that sweet?
Vyrn: Sure. But it seems Rayle has become kind of a problem child lately...
Vyrn: Strange disappearances?
Sierokarte: Yes indeedy! This case is a real stumper.
The crew are at the Knickknack Shack, getting briefed on their next mission.
Sierokarte: See, Rayle's this teeny-tiny island, and not many folks live on it.
Vyrn: Huh. And yet people are goin' missing?
Sierokarte: Mm-hm. Wasn't the locals who reported it though. Few days ago, a group of students visited, hoping to study the plant life. Pretty soon, all connection with them was lost.
Sierokarte: Their friends back home opened up an investigation, and that's when we found out. Folks have been vanishing off that island like smoke for a long time now.
Lyria: It sounds like a frightening place...
Sierokarte: Not at all! It's supposed to be calm and quiet... a great spot to go on vacation.
Sierokarte: I've never been though. So I can't tell you if all that's true or not, but...
Vyrn: But we can go find out for ourselves! Right?
Sierokarte: Exactly!
Sierokarte: Be careful though. The whole island's shrouded in mystery.
Sierokarte: I've got a map here, but it's pretty rough...
Vyrn: Eh, it'll be fine! Rayle's tiny, right?
Vyrn: We'll just walk around it. How hard could it be?
Sierokarte: I knew I could count on you. Good luck—but I doubt you'll need it!
Vyrn: Hm... According to the map, there's a village near the hiking trail.
Lyria: Oh. Troue, right? If I remember correctly, people have gone missing around that area.
Vyrn: No kiddin'! Well, I guess that's where we're headed!
Lyria: Ooh, yay! We're going hiking! Race you to the village!

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 2: Sound of the Primals - Episode 1

In an archive on Frey Island, Nezha delves into Otherworld lore while Medusa looks on. He finds multiple sources, including a fairy tale about two shrines that open on the world of the dead. He deduces that the shrines may be an Otherworld gate and that they are on Rayle Island. As the two primals prepare to leave for Rayle, they hear a bloodcurdling scream.

Nezha: ...
Medusa: ...
Nezha: ...
Medusa: Mph...
Nezha: ...
Medusa: Nezha?
Nezha: ...
Medusa: Hey, Nezha! I'm talking to you!
Nezha: Hm? What is it, Medusa?
Medusa: "What is it, Medusa?"
Medusa: Sigh... You have got to be the most boring primal ever.
Medusa: Where are Baal and Satyr when you need them?
Nezha: They're at a concert. Baal is playing, and Satyr happened to be nearby, so she's watching.
Medusa: Rhetorical question! Why oh why am I stuck with Mr. Literal Pants in a moldy little archive in the middle of nowhere...
Nezha: Well, for what it's worth, I'm glad you're here.
Medusa: But I'm not... Couldn't you have come alone?
Medusa: I'm on the wrong brother island. Ugh, knew I should've gone with (Captain).
Nezha: It gets lonely, being by yourself.
Medusa: You can feel lonely?
Nezha: Of course.
Medusa: All right, fine. Seeing as I'm already trapped here, let's talk.
Medusa: So you've been reading that book for an eternity. You hit the jackpot with it, or?
Nezha: I believe so.
Nezha: It doesn't offer much in the way of detail, but it's the most likely source I've found.
Medusa: Hunh. I see...
Medusa: Wait. Why didn't you tell me you found something?
Medusa: There's no point to me being here if you don't communicate!
Medusa: Oh, never mind. Well? What's it say?
Medusa peers at a floridly illustrated volume open on Nezha's lap.
Medusa: Oh. It's a children's book.
Nezha: Yes. A simple fairy tale, to be exact. But it contains some intriguing information.
Medusa: Ooh. Let's see here...
Medusa: Shrines... Uh-huh, uh-huh... The world of the dead...
Medusa: Is it just me, or are these "Forbidden Shrines" sounding a lot like a gate to the Otherworld?
Nezha: No, I came to the same conclusion. Books often refer to the Otherworld as "the world of the dead," after all.
Medusa: Hm... So you open the shrines at the same time... and offer a living sacrifice...
Medusa: Well. That's kind of disturbing. Aaanyway...
Medusa: If what's written in this book is true, opening that Otherworld gate is as easy as one-two-three.
Medusa: This thing's like a roadmap to chaos. Sure, it says don't do it because terrible things will happen, but that doesn't mean anything.
Medusa: Reverse psychology. It's a mortal's greatest weakness.
Nezha: You're right. But unfortunately, these sorts of stories are all too common.
Medusa: Well, at least it doesn't tell you where the shrines are.
Nezha: This book doesn't. But there are other sources.
Nezha: Put the pieces together, and you get quite a clear picture.
Medusa: Oh? Then where are they?
Nezha: Right next to us. On "Rayle Island," was it?
Medusa: Wait. Baby brother has an Otherworld gate?
Nezha: We don't know that for certain. All we know is, if the shrines in this fairy tale truly exist, they are likely on Rayle Island.
Medusa: Like I said. Knew I should've gone with (Captain).
Nezha: (Captain)'s group is on one of Sierokarte's missions, correct?
Medusa: Yeah. Never found out what it is exactly they're supposed to be doing though.
Medusa: Anyway. I know (Captain) promised to pick us up after they'd solved everything, but...
Medusa: I think we better go to them.
Nezha: I agree. I am rather concerned about this mission of (Captain)'s. Let's hurry.
Medusa and Nezha emerge blinking from the somber archives and walk into the sun-warmed breeze.
Medusa: Well, little brother's right next door. Medusiana will get me there faster than you can say "Rayle Island."
Medusa: We, uh, wouldn't mind giving you a lift. If you ask nicely.
Nezha: Oh, well then. Please. I'd appreciate it.
Medusa: Hehe. Request accepted.
Medusa: Oh right. Before I forget. Nezha, what sparked your sudden obsession with the Otherworld?
Nezha: Sudden? No, I'd long been curious about the Otherworld.
Nezha: However, recently—
???: Nooo!

The vortex catches up with Inosuke and Zenitsu and sends them tumbling into a strange land. There, they meet Shinobu, who also arrived via vortex. They head to a harbor, hoping to find the other missing Demon Slayers. Instead, they find they are on a floating island. Zenitsu lets loose a scream that brings Medusa and Nezha running.

An hour earlier...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Oh gosh, oh gosh, oh gosh. We still got sucked in. We still got sucked in!
Inosuke Hashibira: I know! You don't have to yell it in my face!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Waah... What do we do... What do we do... Tanjirooo...
Inosuke Hashibira: We get out of here. Why are you so spooked?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Why are you so calm? Do you understand the situation we're in?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: How do we get out of here—if we don't know where here is! We were just surrounded by rice fields. These are not rice fields!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Ohh... What are we going to do...
Inosuke Hashibira: I see something. Think they're houses.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Huh?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: You're right... They are houses.
Inosuke Hashibira: If there's houses, there's people. We talk to them, we find out where we are.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Right again... I can't believe Inosuke's making more sense than me...
Inosuke Hashibira: Well, come on. Stop talking to yourself, and follow me!
Draph: Hm? Oh, hello there.
Inosuke Hashibira: He's heading for us. Perfect.
Inosuke Hashibira: Hey! You over there!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Wait! Nooo!
Inosuke Hashibira: Gah! Monitsu! What's wrong with you!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: No! What's wrong with you! I can't believe you just casually struck up a conversation!
Draph: You kids all right?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Look at him! He has horns! He has horns on his head!
Inosuke Hashibira: So what?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: So...
Inosuke Hashibira: He's human.
Draph: Hey, can you hear me?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Right once again... He sounds completely human...
Draph: I'm getting worried here. Seriously, you kids okay?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Hey there. Um... This is kind of a weird question but...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Where are we?
Draph: Huh? Uh, well, this is Frey Island... Though I guess most folks know us as the big brother island.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Big brother island? Island?
Draph: Never seen you round these parts before, so I thought you were tourists, but...
Inosuke Hashibira: Hey, what do you mean, big brother island? Where's Tokyo?
Draph: "Tokyo"? Never heard of it. Pretty sure you aren't gonna find it on this floating hunk of rock.
Inosuke Hashibira: You've never heard of Tokyo? What are you—a hick?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Inosuke! You can't just call people hicks!
Draph: Haha. I don't mind. We're pretty far out in the boonies of Phantagrande, after all.
Draph: So, you kids from this "Tokyo"?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Yeah. Well, sort of...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Oh boy. I think I'm more confused than before...
???: Yes. We have quite the puzzle on our hands.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Huh?
Shinobu Kocho: Hello.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Shinobu?
Shinobu Kocho: Why, it's Zenitsu and Inosuke. What brings you here?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Oh, I wish I knew...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Then—poof—we were here.
Shinobu Kocho: I see. So we were all ensnared by the red vortex...
Shinobu Kocho: But that would mean... it has the power to warp time.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Has the power to what, now?
Shinobu Kocho: We all just arrived here, right? But I believe we were swept up by the vortex at vastly different points in time.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: What! How is that even possible?
Shinobu Kocho: I'm not sure we'll ever be able to answer that question. Nothing quite makes sense.
Shinobu Kocho: One way or another, it doesn't change what we have to do. We need to get home.
Shinobu Kocho: Now, are either of your Kasugai Crows nearby?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Now that you mention it... no. And, um... mine isn't a crow. He's a sparrow.
Shinobu Kocho: And yours, Inosuke?
Inosuke Hashibira: Lost it a long time ago. Wanted to eat it.
Shinobu Kocho: Oh dear...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: What about yours, Shinobu?
Shinobu Kocho: Nowhere to be seen.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: But that means we can't contact anyone...
Shinobu Kocho: No. At least not right away. It's all rather unfortunate, isn't it?
Shinobu Kocho: In any case, what we need now is information. Then, if at all possible, I'd like to find Rengoku and Tomioka.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Wait. They're here too?
Shinobu Kocho: I can't say for sure, but it is likely. After all, they were whisked away by the same vortex.
Inosuke Hashibira: So was Monjiro.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Oh right. Maybe he and Nezuko are close by.
Shinobu Kocho: Let's search for them as well.
Shinobu Kocho: We don't know what we're up against... But we'll feel safer once we're all together.
Shinobu Kocho: Excuse me!
Draph: Oh. You talking to me?
Yes, hi again. Did you finish catching up?
Shinobu Kocho: Yes. I'm sorry it took so long. There was quite a lot to share.
Draph: Nah, don't worry about it. Now, what can I do for you?
Shinobu Kocho: Well, we're looking for some acquaintances. Do you know how we might find them?
Draph: Hm... Feels like there's a lot to unpack here, but... at any rate, neither you nor your acquaintances are from this area, right?
Shinobu Kocho: Yes, that's right.
Draph: In that case...
Draph: Try the harbor first. Somebody might've spotted them there if they sailed in from another island.
Shinobu Kocho: The harbor? Where might that be?
Draph: Closest one's in my village, Marley. It's just a few minutes' walk from here. I could take you there, if you want.
Shinobu Kocho: Yes, please. That would be most helpful!
Draph: All right, but don't get your hopes up. It's a pretty small harbor.
The Draph leads Shinobu and the boys within view of the harbor, then leaves them to wander in on their own.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Eep!
Shinobu Kocho: Oh my!
Inosuke Hashibira: Huh?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Wait, hold up! I said hold up! What is this?
Shinobu Kocho: That man with the horns said it was their harbor.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Like heck it is!
Inosuke Hashibira: I know what a harbor is. It's where ships come in from the sea. Is this the sea?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: No! It's the sky! You've seen the sky before, right!
Shinobu Kocho: Well... This is surprising.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Really! Then why don't you seem surprised!
Inosuke Hashibira: Hey, cool it.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Excuse me? What, you think I'm overreacting?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Look around! If there was ever a time to freak out, it's now!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: This island is floating... in the sky!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Gasp! Oh no. Do you think we're dead? Do you think we've ascended?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Nooo!
Inosuke Hashibira: I said cool it!
Shinobu Kocho: Now, that's enough. Both of you, calm down.
Shinobu Kocho: We knew from the start things were out of the ordinary.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: No. Nuh-uh. "Out of the ordinary"? Congratulations! You just won understatement of the century!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: This has got to be the creepiest, freakiest, scariest—
Medusa: All right! Who made that blood-curdling scream?

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 2: Sound of the Primals - Episode 3

Shinobu, upon learning more about the skies from Medusa and Nezha, concludes they are in a different world. Medusa offers to take her and the boys to (Captain) so that they can search for their missing companions. That settled, the whole group hops on Medusiana and heads to Rayle.

Medusa: Ugh, my poor ears... What is all the commotion even about?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Huh?
Nezha: I'd heard this was a quiet island, but I suppose the same can't be said for all its inhabitants.
Inosuke Hashibira: Hey...
Inosuke Hashibira: You're tough, right? I can tell.
Medusa: Hunh. A mortal with intuition. Imagine that.
Medusa: You are a mortal, right? What's with the head? You like boars or something?
Inosuke Hashibira: I am the great Inosuke Hashibira! I challenge you to a battle!
Medusa: Um, what? Okay, I take back what I said. Kid, you're a moron, and you don't know who you're dealing with.
Inosuke Hashibira: Hah! I'd know if you fought me!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Whoa, okay, time out! Inosuke, stop!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: They're not human.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: They sound different... But not like demon-different. It's a I-don't-know-what-kind of different!
Shinobu Kocho: ...
Shinobu Kocho: Good afternoon.
Nezha: Good afternoon.
Shinobu Kocho: I'm sorry if this comes off as rude, but who are you?
Shinobu Kocho: I can tell you don't mean us any harm, but well... You aren't human, are you?
Medusa: Uh, yeah. I'm a majestic primal? How could you even think for one second I was a puny little human?
Shinobu Kocho: A primal?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Huh? What's that?
Medusa: Wait, what? You've never heard of primal beasts?
Medusa: Are you even skydwellers?
Shinobu Kocho: I apologize if we've caused any offense. But we don't know much about this land at all.
Shinobu Kocho: We're lost, you see. We somehow... drifted here from far, far away.
Medusa: Oh, really.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: I-it's true!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Back home, we didn't have islands just hanging out in the sky. Things used to make sense...
Medusa: Hunh. Interesting.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: What? That's all you have to say? Shouldn't you be calling us crazy, or...
Shinobu Kocho: Is this sort of thing common?
Medusa: What sort of thing?
Shinobu Kocho: The sudden appearance of guests from a completely different world.
Medusa: Mm... I wouldn't call it common, but you guys definitely aren't the first.
Shinobu Kocho: I see...
Shinobu Kocho: Now I'm almost certain the others are here—somewhere in these skies.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: I've given up on thinking... I just want to find Tanjiro...
Nezha: Are you searching for someone?
Shinobu Kocho: Yes. Three people, to be exact.
Shinobu Kocho: I believe they were spirited here—from our world. We have to find them.
Nezha: I see.
Medusa: All right...
Medusa: Well, in that case, you're gonna need an airship. You can't get anywhere without one.
Shinobu Kocho: An airship?
Medusa: Lucky for you, you met me.
Medusa: And I happen to be looking after some skyfarers right now. I'll introduce you and get you your ride. Yeah, you're welcome.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Sky... farers? Uh, are we still speaking the same language?
Medusa: Just relax.
Medusa: They're right on the next island. Medusiana will get us there in two seconds flat.
Inosuke Hashibira: Hey! I still want my battle!
Inosuke Hashibira: You! I've gotta fight you at least!
Nezha: Me?
Inosuke Hashibira: You're extra strong! I can feel it!
Medusa: Whoa, hold up! You want to fight Nezha over me?
Medusa: Well, news flash. It is 150 years too early for you to be challenging him!
Inosuke Hashibira: You think I can't take him, Tiny? Then come at me! I'll beat you first!
Medusa: Excuse you! What am I, random dungeon spawn before the boss?
Inosuke Hashibira: What do you have against prawns!
Medusa: I said "spawn"! Are you missing your ears—or just your brain!
Nezha: That's quite enough, Medusa.
Medusa: Mmph.
Shinobu Kocho: You'd better cool your head as well, Inosuke. Can't you see this isn't the time or place?
Inosuke Hashibira: Hunh?
Shinobu Kocho: No matter where we are or whom we're with, you're always starting fights...
Shinobu Kocho: But, you know, there's a saying that goes, "The smallest dogs bark the loudest."
Inosuke Hashibira: ...
Shinobu Kocho: I'm sorry he was so rude.
Nezha: Not at all. Medusa also should've known better.
Medusa: Hey, Nezha. How about we not act like my dad?
Nezha: Hm?
Medusa: Sigh... Never mind. Let's just go.
Medusa: Medusiana!
Medusiana: ...!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Eep!
Medusa: Your savior has arrived. Medusiana's—
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Aaahhh!

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 2: Sound of the Primals - Episode 4

Back on Rayle, (Captain), Vyrn, and Lyria get lost on the way to Troue Village, the only settlement on the island. They stumble upon Tanjiro and learn about Lyle's missing sister. Judging that she may be linked to the other mysterious disappearances, they decide to question the boy further.

Lyria: Pant... Pant...
Vyrn: Hey, Lyria! You doin' okay over there?
Lyria: Oh, yes! I'm fine! I'm fine, but...
Lyria: Are we there yet?
Vyrn: Yeah, that question's been bouncin' around in my head for a while now. How far off do you think we are, (Captain)?
  1. I think we're lost.
  2. I don't know...

Choose: I think we're lost.
Lyria: Haha. Yeah, I had a feeling you might say that.
Vyrn: Well, what'd we expect? This "map" couldn't get us from one end of the Grandcypher to the other.
Vyrn: How was it supposed to lead us up a mountain smack in the middle of nowhere?

Choose: I don't know...
Vyrn: You don't know?
Vyrn: Well, neither do I. That settles it—we're lost.
Continue 1
Lyria: I mean, we started off okay. It was faint, but we were definitely on a trail that looked like it'd been used recently.
Vyrn: Yep. But seems like we strayed off it. And now we're deep in the mountains, with the sun comin' down fast.
Vyrn: Guess they'll be putting up missing posters for us next.
Lyria: Oh no! We can't let that happen!
Lyria: What do we do? I'd like to ask for directions, but...
Vyrn: Yeah... Ain't gonna find people in this neck of the woods.
There are a series of rustling sounds, like that of a large animal moving through the underbrush. (Captain) steps forward, sword drawn.
Vyrn: You sense somethin', buddy? Is it a monster?
Tanjiro Kamado: Oh.
Vyrn: It's a person!
Lyria: Oh, thank goodness! Now we can ask for directions.
Tanjiro Kamado: Um, who are you?
Lyria: Oh, yes, hi! We were just on our way to a village by the pass, but now we're a little lost and...
Lyle: Village? Do you mean Troue Village?
Vyrn: Yup! That's the one! You know it?
Lyle: I live in it.
Kyojuro Rengoku: I had heard there were no other settlements nearby. Are you travelers, by any chance?
Lyria: We're skyfarers!
Vyrn: We came here on a mission, but uh... Right now, we're the ones that need savin'.
Lyle: You're all skyfarers?
Lyria: That's right.
Lyle: I've never met one before. Did something happen back at the village?
Vyrn: More like this whole island. Apparently, folks are vanishin' into thin air. We came to investigate.
Lyria: Would you happen to know anything?
Lyle: About people disappearing?
Lyle: No, I wouldn't...
Giyu Tomioka: What about your sister?
Kyojuro Rengoku: Yes, of course!
Kyojuro Rengoku: The disappearance of your sister may be linked to these other cases!
Lyria: Is your sister missing?
Vyrn: Hey, kid. Mind tellin' us your story?

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 3: Caress of the Night - Episode 1

The crew learns that Lyle and Elly's parents died three years ago. The siblings now live with a man named Bard, who told them about two shrines that opened onto the Otherworld. That is why the siblings, driven by a local belief that the souls of the dead descend to the Otherworld, sought out their parents in the shrines.

Lyle: Three years ago, my mom and dad died.
Lyle: That's why me and my sister, Elly, live with my uncle.
Vyrn: This uncle... He your closest relation?
Kyojuro Rengoku: There are no blood ties between them.
Lyle: We call him that, but before all this happened, he was just the guy who lived alone next door.
Lyle: He used to have a daughter, but she died... long before our parents did.
Vyrn: So... he lost his family too.
Lyria: But then he made a new one—with you and Elly.
Lyle: Yeah... We're family.
Tanjiro Kamado: It was their uncle—um, Bard—that told them about the shrines.
Lyle: Mm-hm. We really wanted to see our parents again, so...
Lyria: But... didn't they pass away?
Lyle: They did. So we tried to open the gate to the Otherworld.
Vyrn: Whoa, hold up! Did you say "Otherworld?"
Lyle: Y-yeah... 'Cause that's where spirits live, right?
Lyria: Um, (Captain)...
Lyria shoots a look at (Captain), whose face has darkened.
Giyu Tomioka: You know something, don't you?
Lyria: Well, yes... We've heard of the Otherworld before, but...
Kyojuro Rengoku: Indeed! And do the dead dwell there?
Vyrn: I mean, that's what people say, but we have our doubts.
Lyle: But there's a custom in our village. During funerals, we send our dead down to the bottom of the skies.
Lyle: That means Mom and Dad have to be in the Otherworld... right?
Lyria: I'm sorry, Lyle. But we really don't know that much.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Who can say what awaits in the country of death? None here have walked that final path.
Lyle: ...

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 3: Caress of the Night - Episode 2

The crew reveals that the last time a link was forged to the Otherworld, it turned the sky red too. The Demon Slayers conclude that the Otherworld must also be behind the crimson vortex that whisked them from their world and ask for the crew's help in investigating. The crew agrees, but they are soon ambushed by aberrations.

After Lyle finishes his story, there is a moment of silence, but it is swollen by fear, sympathy, regret. Vyrn is the first to break it.
Vyrn: So... I can't stop thinking about those weird ghouls that attacked you.
Lyle: I think they came out of the shrines. They didn't look like any monsters I'd seen before.
Vyrn: That sounds like bad news.
(Captain) nods, lips set in a tight line.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Yes, the creatures are dangerous! But beyond that, all I can say is they are not demons.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Do you know anything more of them?
Vyrn: Not really, but this same sorta thing's happened before. Someone busted open a door to the Otherworld and let loose a flood of nightmares.
Vyrn: Boy, was it crazy. The sky went red and everything.
Tanjiro Kamado: Just like earlier... And that time, the sun wasn't setting—or rising.
Lyria: We have to close the gates to the Otherworld. If we don't, who knows what could happen to the skies?
Giyu Tomioka: Gates opening on to different worlds...
Kyojuro Rengoku: Yes... It may bear a connection to the red vortex which spirited us here.
Vyrn: Red vortex? Spirited? Who done what now?
Tanjiro Kamado: We're all still a little confused, but I think we were sent here from a different world.
Vyrn: What? Like the vortex sucked you in and spat you out here?
Tanjiro Kamado: Yeah—right here in these mountains, where everything's different from back home.
Lyria: Um, what does that have to do with the Otherworld stuff?

Giyu Tomioka: We don't know yet. We'd never even heard of the Otherworld before today.
Kyojuro Rengoku: But I believe there is a link!
Kyojuro Rengoku: Why else would we arrive at this moment—when the gates to the Otherworld have opened and the skies seem poised to fall?
Kyojuro Rengoku: It is a lead and, for now, we have no choice but to follow it!
Kyojuro Rengoku: There is no time for doubt. We must find our road home as quickly as possible.
Vyrn: "As quickly as possible," huh? Well, you're sure in a hurry.
Kyojuro Rengoku: I... No, we have a duty to fulfill.
    Giyu Tomioka: ...
Kyojuro Rengoku: There is also the matter of young Lyle's sister. The sooner she is safe, the better.
Kyojuro Rengoku: (Captain), you seem to have some experience with the Otherworld.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Lend us your strength and knowledge!
Vyrn: You don't have to ask us twice, pal!
Vyrn: I mean, somethin' tells me all those missing folks we're looking for didn't get lost pickin' flowers in the woods.
Lyria: Not to mention, if the Otherworld really is involved, our whole world is at stake.
Vyrn: But I gotta admit... there's still a whole lot we don't know. We need more info.
Vyrn: Hey, scout... Uh, Lyle, was it?
    Lyle: Y-yeah.
Vyrn: We wanna talk to your uncle Bard.
Vyrn: Think you could take us back to your village?
    Lyle: But what about Elly?
Lyria: Yeah... I'm also worried about her.
Vyrn: Me three. And ol' Bard's testimony could lead us right to her.
    Lyle: But...
Lyria: Um, which is closer—the shrines or Troue Village?
Lyle: Uh... We're not on the trail anymore, so it's hard to tell, but...
Lyle: I think we're smack in the middle of them. The village should be that way...
Lyle: And the shrines... that way.
    Lyria: Wait. That way?
Lyria squints in the direction that Lyle is pointing.
    Lyria: There's something there...
Vyrn: What's up, Lyria? Your sensors goin' off?
Lyria: Yeah... I don't know if it's coming from the shrines, but I can feel something strange...
    Vyrn: Think it's a primal?
Lyria: It might be, but... I'm not sure...
    Vyrn: Huh? That's unusual.
Lyria: Well, the feeling's different from usual. It's weak and fuzzy. It's like... trying to touch mist...
Lyria: Oh, but it reminds me of... Remember when we went to those old battlegrounds, but during dormant season?
Vyrn: Yeah... Wait, are you tellin' me there's a primal core around here?
    Lyria: It's a possibility...
Kyojuro Rengoku: I am utterly at sea!
Tanjiro Kamado: What are "primals"? Are they from the Otherworld?
Vyrn: No, no. You see, primal beasts are—
    Tanjiro Kamado: ...!
    Look, the sky!
Kyojuro Rengoku: It is those creatures again! On your guard!
    Tanjiro Kamado: Yes sir!
Vyrn: I'm gettin' a real bad feeling about this!
Lyria: The gates to the Otherworld must have opened again!
    Lyle: Eep!
Kyojuro Rengoku: Kamado, take charge of defense! See that young Lyle stays safe!
Kyojuro Rengoku: Tomioka, with me! We will meet them head on!

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 3: Caress of the Night - Episode 3

Medusa's party appears and all are reunited. The crew learns about the Demon Slayer Corps and the burden they bear. After hearing from Nezha that the Otherworld gate will not fully open for another few days, the group confers on the best way to rescue Elly and send the Demon Slayers back to their world.

    Nezha: Are you all right?
Medusa: Seriously! What would you guys do without me?
    Lyria: Nezha! Medusa!
Medusa: So. You want to tell me why you're all just hanging out halfway up a mountain? Is this part of your mission, or?
    Vyrn: No. We, uh...
    Zenitsu Agatsuma: Ta-Ta-Ta-Ta-Tanjiro!
    Tanjiro Kamado: Zenitsu!
    Wait. Inosuke?
Inosuke Hashibira: Hey, Santaro! Bet you were scared 'cause I wasn't around!
    Zenitsu Agatsuma: Waaah! Tanjirooo!
Tanjiro Kamado: So I guess you didn't escape.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Nope... That swirly thing sucked us right up...
Tanjiro Kamado: Oh... Well, at least we're together again.
Kyojuro Rengoku: It is as Kamado says! Much has befallen us, but I am glad to see you safe, Kocho.
    Shinobu Kocho: And I you.
Shinobu Kocho: But I regret not being able to fulfill my errand. I never reached the Ubuyashiki Mansion.
Kyojuro Rengoku: No, there was no outrunning the red vortex.
Kyojuro Rengoku: However... now, three of the nine Hashira are trapped in another world. Our situation is dire.
Medusa: Uh, is the reunion over yet?
Medusa: The second we arrive, you're all cheering and sobbing and having meetings... Hello? What about me? The primal?
Nezha: Well, they seem to have found their comrades. We should be happy for them.
Medusa: Sure! I'm happy! But I think we're forgetting who made all this possible!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Um, thanks, Medusa. That was, uh... quite a ride...
Inosuke Hashibira: Hey, Tiny! Call out your giant snake!
Medusa: Excuse me? I have a name, you know!
Medusa: And for that matter, so does Medusiana!
Inosuke Hashibira: Stop talking and fight me! I'll beat your snake later!
Medusa: Oh, I'm about to teach you a lesson you won't—
    Nezha: Medusa.
    Shinobu Kocho: Inosuke.
    Medusa: Mmph...
    Inosuke Hashibira: Okay...
    Nezha: Now, (Captain)...
Nezha: I wanted to ask you about these creatures we defeated. They're from the Otherworld, aren't they?
    (Captain) nods.
Medusa: Well, guess we were right. There is an Otherworld gate on this island.
Vyrn: "Guess we were right"? Hold up. You knew about this gate?
Medusa: More like, just found out about it. Nezha was doing some research and...
Medusa: Well, you get the idea. What about you guys? Shouldn't you be running around, doing your little mission?
Lyria: About that... We were told to look into some mysterious disappearances, but...
Vyrn: They probably have somethin' to do with the Otherworld.
Medusa: Let me get this straight...
Medusa: This kid and his sister opened up the shrines.
    Lyle: Yeah...
Nezha: I think it's now safe to assume two things: that book was more than a fairy tale, and those shrines were sealing off the Otherworld.
Tanjiro Kamado: Lyle said his sister was pulled into a portal the moment they opened the shrines. That's how they got separated.
    Medusa: The sacrifice...
    Nezha: Medusa.
    Medusa: I know.
Medusa: Well, I'm starting to see why you think the Otherworld's involved in the disappearances.
Vyrn: Yeah, I mean, Otherworld gates aren't exactly common. This island has one—an open one—and freaky stuff is happenin'. No way that's a coincidence.
    Nezha: Yes... That sounds logical.
Medusa: Anyway, we've been talking a lot about the people who disappeared, but, uh... what about these boars who appeared?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Boars? Um, sorry to interrupt, but there's only one boar here, and I don't think he really represents us.
Inosuke Hashibira: Huh? What are you talking about? I'm your leader!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: You're our what now? There are literally three Hashira standing right over there, and you're calling yourself our leader?
Tanjiro Kamado: Guys, stop it. Please!
Medusa: Sigh... They'll never stop screaming, will they?
Shinobu Kocho: Rengoku, do you think if we go to this Otherworld gate, we'll find clues on how to return home?
Kyojuro Rengoku: Yes. I have already asked (Captain) to guide us!
Kyojuro Rengoku: We must make haste. With you here as well, the corps is far too vulnerable.
Shinobu Kocho: You're right, of course... It's now missing a third of its Hashira.
Vyrn: Y'all have been throwin' this word around for a while now, but what's a Hashira?
Vyrn: Does it have somethin' to do with why you're all rushin' to get home?
Shinobu Kocho: Yes. To explain, we're all part of a corps known as the Demon Slayers. But I suppose you haven't heard of us.
Lyria: "Demon Slayers"? No, I don't think I have.
Shinobu Kocho: Even back in our world, we aren't an official organization... But, well, to put it simply, we exist to eradicate demons.
Vyrn: And these demons aren't the same as monsters, right?
Tanjiro Kamado: So, actually, I fought some monsters when I got here.
Tanjiro Kamado: And they were nothing like demons—or anything I'd ever seen before.
Giyu Tomioka: Besides, demons only appear at night.
    Vyrn: Oh, so they're nocturnal.
Tanjiro Kamado: Kind of. They're more weak to sunlight.
Kyojuro Rengoku: And they eat human flesh.
    Lyria: Human flesh?
Vyrn: So basically... these demons are the stuff of nightmares, and it's your job to take 'em out.
Shinobu Kocho: That's right. And Rengoku, Tomioka, and I are Hashira of the corps... You could say we're like generals.
Vyrn: Generals? So that means you're strong, right?
Shinobu Kocho: Well, in a word, yes. We are far stronger than Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke—for now, at least.
Kyojuro Rengoku: We Hashira head the battle against demons. It is our duty to protect the people and keep them from fear.
Vyrn: Oh... Now I see what all the rush is about.
Shinobu Kocho: Anyways, it's getting late.
The light streaming through the leaves is now dense and tinged with orange. The sun hangs low in the sky.
Shinobu Kocho: We need to decide how we'll go about saving Lyle's sister—and finding us a way home.
Nezha: Well, it may be a relief to know that the Otherworld gate, at least, doesn't pose much of a threat yet.
    Vyrn: Really?
Nezha: It's a little hard to tell because it's sunset, but the sky has gone back to normal.
Nezha: And those creatures have stopped attacking us.
Lyria: Are you saying the gate hasn't fully opened yet?
Nezha: Yes. Right now, it's barely ajar. But the power of the Otherworld is trickling through that crack.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Wait. That was a trickle?
Medusa: Yep. And, believe me, you don't want to see what a flood looks like.
    Nezha: But there is time.
Nezha: This is just a deduction based on information from several sources, but we should have several days before the gate completely opens.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Will young Lyle's sister be safe until then?
Nezha: No guarantees. But we need a plan for her sake as well. It would be reckless to tamper with an Otherworld gate without one.

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 3: Caress of the Night - Episode 4

Night falls, and the group sets up camp in the woods. Tanjiro introduces the crew to Nezuko. Then all decide that, when morning comes, they will split into two parties: one to investigate the shrines and one to deliver Lyle to Troue Village.

The crew is scattered around a campfire—some hypnotizing themselves with its twisting flames, some in conversation, some gazing up at the pale moon.
Nezha: It's dangerous to hike at night.
Kyojuro Rengoku: We are accustomed to battles in the dark...
Kyojuro Rengoku: But this is an unknown land. Let us be prudent and heed his counsel!
Medusa: So I've been thinking this for a while now, but why do you have to project everything? We're standing, like, two feet apart.
Shinobu Kocho: Rengoku, why don't you try lowering your voice?
    Look over there.
    Lyle: ...
Shinobu waves a hand towards Lyle, whose eyes are half-closed.
Tanjiro Kamado: I think all that stress and excitement has finally worn him out...
Tanjiro Kamado: Lyle, if you're tired, you don't have to stay awake. Just go to sleep...
    Vyrn: Huh? What was that?
Lyria: It sounded like scratching. I think it was coming from Tanjiro's box.
Tanjiro Kamado: Nezuko! Are you awake?
Vyrn: Holy! A girl just popped out of the box!
Tanjiro Kamado: This is my sister, Nezuko.
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Lyria: Hi, Nezuko! My name's Lyria!
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Hehe... Morning, Nezuko. Did you sleep well?
Vyrn: "Morning"? Last time I checked, the sun was comin' down, not up. Bit of a late riser, ain't she?
Tanjiro Kamado: Oh, well that's because...
    Tanjiro Kamado: Nezuko's a demon.
Vyrn: What! Demons, like, the demons we were just talkin' about? Like, the kind that come out at night 'cause they hate the sun?
    Tanjiro Kamado: That's right.
Tanjiro Kamado: Oh, but Nezuko doesn't eat people! She never has, and she never will!
Lyria: Oh, yes! I could sense that the moment I saw her.
Lyria: But there's something else that confuses me... Nezuko is your sister, right?
    Vyrn: And you're human, right?
Tanjiro Kamado: Yeah... All demons used to be human.
Tanjiro Kamado: That's why I fight. So I can give Nezuko her life back.
    Shinobu Kocho: ...
There is a moment of intimate silence, the kind that expresses certain emotions of the heart better than words. Then, quietly, Shinobu rises to her feet.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Kocho? What is it?
Shinobu Kocho: Nothing. I just thought I'd go on patrol for a bit.
Shinobu Kocho: There are no demons in this world, but we should still watch out for beasts and monsters.
Tanjiro Kamado: Oh, then let me—
Shinobu Kocho: No. You should stay here, Tanjiro.
Shinobu Kocho: Lyle and Nezuko will feel lonely with you gone.
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Tanjiro Kamado: But you shouldn't go out on patrol alone.
Shinobu Kocho: Hehe. Don't worry about me. I know I said all that about patrolling, but really, I just wanted to take a stroll.
Shinobu Kocho: And, well... to be by myself for a while.
Shinobu Kocho: We rarely get nights this peaceful, after all.
    Tanjiro Kamado: Peaceful... nights...
Shinobu Kocho: Rengoku, look after the camp.
Shinobu Kocho: And Tomioka, I know it's hard, but do make an effort to be sociable.
    Giyu Tomioka: ...
Shinobu Kocho: I'll be back soon.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: It really is peaceful...
But yeah, I guess it would be. Demons don't exist here.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: It just... still hasn't hit me that we're in another world.
    Inosuke Hashibira: The air's different.
    Zenitsu Agatsuma: Huh? The air?
Inosuke Hashibira: It feels different. Like how smooth it is, or how thick, or... Anyways. It's completely different.
Tanjiro Kamado: Yeah... I get what you're trying to say. When I first got here, I thought the air smelled different too.
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
    Lyle: ...
    Lyria: Oh, Lyle.
    Vyrn: Finally nodded off, huh?
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Lyle sleeps with his head resting on Tanjiro's lap. Nezuko reaches over and softly strokes his hair.
Medusa: Hey, isn't it about time we sent the kid home?
Vyrn: Agreed. The Otherworld's a dangerous business. Can't keep prancin' around the woods with him like this.
Lyria: True. Why don't we visit the village in the morning?
Vyrn: Good idea. We can ask around 'bout the shrines too.
Nezha: Then I'll head straight for the shrines themselves. Do some investigating there.
Medusa: Yeah, figured you'd say that. I mean, the Otherworld gate's the whole reason you came to the island.
Nezha: Indeed. I also have the most information out of everyone here. If anything unexpected happens, I've got the best chance at dealing with it.
Medusa: Mm... Can't argue with that. Well, if Nezha's going to the shrines, then so am I.
Medusa: I'm here to keep him company, after all.
Lyria: Um... What about you guys?
Tanjiro Kamado: I... am a little worried about Lyle, so I want to go to the village.
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Tanjiro Kamado: Nezuko... Thanks. Yeah, we'll go together.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Then I will entrust matters at the village to Kamado and strike out for the shrines.
Giyu Tomioka: I'll head to the village.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Good! It will set my mind further at ease, knowing you are there!
Inosuke Hashibira: Why does Mismatched Haori want to go to the village? The shrines seem way cooler!
Inosuke Hashibira: That's where I'm going. I want to fight more of those weird monsters.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: I want to stick with Tanjiro and Nezuko, but... Are you going to be okay, Inosuke?
Inosuke Hashibira: What? Of course I'm gonna be okay!
Tanjiro Kamado: Just be careful, Inosuke. And make sure you listen to everything Rengoku says.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Worry not, Kamado! I will bridle this young boar!
Inosuke Hashibira: You're gonna what, Googly-Eyes?
    Tanjiro Kamado: Inosuke, please!
    Inosuke Hashibira: Raah!
Medusa: Sigh... They'll never run out of energy, will they?
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
    Medusa: Hm? What's up, Nezuko?
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Medusa: Must be tough not being able to speak. Sorry, but I don't know what you're trying to say. I'm not Tanjiro.
Lyria: Hehe. I think she wants to be friends.
Lyria: I mean, Nezuko has Tanjiro, and you have Euryale and Stheno.
    Lyria: You're both younger sisters!
Medusa: And you're telling me that's why she wants to be friends? Yeah, I don't get it.
Medusa: But, anyways, she did single me out—and that proves she's got good taste.
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Medusa: Mm... So it's not like it makes a difference to me whether she's human or demon, but...
Medusa: If she turns back, will she be able to take that thing out of her mouth and talk again?
Tanjiro Kamado: Yeah... I'm sure she will.
Medusa: Oh. Well, I'm sure it also sucks being allergic to the sun, so... I hope things go back to normal soon.
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Medusa: Hey! Stop with the head pats!
Medusa: Listen, I am way older than you!
Medusa: Between the two of us, I'm the big sister here!
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Medusa: I thought I told you to stooop!

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 4: Reflection of the Heart - Episode 1

The trio, Tanjiro, Nezuko, Giyu, and Zenitsu bring Lyle home. They attempt to question Bard about the shrines, but after insisting he knows nothing, the man rushes madly from the house. Giyu takes off after him.

    The next morning...
Vyrn: So this is Troue Village, huh?
    Lyle: ...
    Lyria: Lyle... What's the matter?
    Lyle: Elly's still out there...
Tanjiro Kamado: Don't worry. Everything will be okay.
Tanjiro Kamado: Both Rengoku and Shinobu are headed for the shrines as we speak—and they're amazing people.
Tanjiro Kamado: There are hundreds of Demon Slayers besides me and Zenitsu, and those two are among the nine strongest.
Tanjiro Kamado: What's more, Shinobu's kind of like a doctor. She knows how to treat all kinds of diseases and injuries...
Tanjiro Kamado: So have some faith in them, okay?
Lyria: Oh, and I can vouch for Medusa and Nezha! They're also really strong!
Lyle: Um... What about the guy in the boar mask?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Leeet's not worry about him.
    Lyle: Huh?
Tanjiro Kamado: Relax! Inosuke's tough, and he's always there when you need him!
Tanjiro Kamado: Your sister's in good hands, I promise.
    Lyle: Okay.
Tanjiro Kamado: And don't forget: we also have a job to do.
Tanjiro Kamado: We need to gather information—and for that, we need you here in the village, Lyle.
    Lyle: Me?
Lyria: Yeah! We don't know anything about Troue! We need you to guide us!
    Lyle: Okay. Got it.
Vyrn: Great! Now that that's settled, what say we swing by Lyle's place?
Lyria: So this is where you live.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Seems empty except for us... Where's your uncle?
Lyle: Oh, right... Sorry. I was freaking out so much, I forgot but...
Lyle: He might not even be in the village. He left for Frey Island yesterday.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: That's the island next to this one, right? The one Inosuke and I crash-landed on?
Lyle: Yeah. His trip gave me and Elly enough time to sneak out of the village... and make it to the shrines...
Vyrn: Well, it's not like we can just teleport him over here, so let's go talk to somebody—
    Giyu Tomioka: Hm?
    ???: Lyle? But how?
    Lyle: Huh? Uncle Bard?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Oh, well, look at that. He's back.
    Bard: ...
Vyrn: Boy, do you have good timing! Ya see, we came to ask you about the—
    Bard: Lyle... Where's Elly?
Lyle: I-I'm sorry! We went to the shrines, and Elly...
    Bard: Did you... open them?
    Lyle: Y-yeah...
Bard: I see... You really did it...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Sooo, about those shrines. We were wondering if—
Bard: No! I know nothing about them!
    Tanjiro Kamado: Wait, but...
Bard: Who are you people, anyways? If you think you can come into my house and just start making demands...!
Tanjiro Kamado: No, we don't. I'm sorry. My name's Tanjiro Kamado.
Tanjiro Kamado: I met Lyle deep in the woods and brought him to the village.
    Bard: So what?
Lyle: So he saved my life! The least we could do is answer their questions.
    Bard: ...
Vyrn: Come on, Bard! Any scrap of information would help! About the Otherworld or...
Bard: No! I already told you! I don't know anything!
    Vyrn: What the? He ran!
    Lyria: But... why would he?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: That's weird... He was the one who told you about the shrines, right?
    Lyle: Yeah, he was...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Then why'd he keep saying he didn't know anything?
Vyrn: Does that kind of info have to stay in the village, or...
Lyle: I'm not sure. I mean—
Wait, no. Uncle Bard told me to keep quiet.
Lyle: But then I... I spilled to you guys!
Lyria: Lyle, it's okay. You didn't do anything wrong. You needed help.
Tanjiro Kamado: Lyria's right. You can't do this alone. It's a good thing you talked to us.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: And, well... it's a little too late for take-backs.
Tanjiro Kamado: Yeah. We've already come so far together. We aren't going to abandon you now.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Plus, this is our problem too. Right now, those shrines are our only clue to getting home.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: We can't just give up.
Vyrn: If only we could figure how to get Bard to 'fess up...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: I've got a bad feeling about him... He sounded so cold and rigid and... kind of scary.
    Giyu Tomioka: It's simple.
    Tanjiro Kamado: Tomioka?
Giyu Tomioka: We catch him and make him talk.

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 4: Reflection of the Heart - Episode 2

The party catches up with Bard and tells him the world is in danger. After a burst of laughter, Bard declares that he sent Elly and Lyle to the shrines knowing full well what might happen. He reveals that he holds the world responsible for the deaths of his wife and daughter and has long yearned for its destruction.

    Bard: Eep!
Giyu Tomioka: Why are you running?
Bard: Let go! What's wrong with you?
Giyu Tomioka: My name is Giyu Tomioka.
Bard: I didn't ask for your name!
Giyu Tomioka: Right now, that's all you need to know about me.
    Tanjiro Kamado: Tomioka!
Lyria: Pant... We finally caught up!
Vyrn: What are your legs made of?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: He's already got Bard. Wow, Hashira are beyond amazing...
    Giyu Tomioka: Where's Lyle?
Tanjiro Kamado: We told him to wait back at the house.
Vyrn: So, what'd the old guy cough up?
    Giyu Tomioka: Nothing... yet.
    Bard: Urk...
Giyu Tomioka: Tell us about the shrines.
Bard: W-what? But it's all village folklore...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Really. Because Lyle said that when they opened up the shrines, his sister got sucked into a vortex...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: And then we were jumped by super freaky monsters. That doesn't seem like a fairy tale to me!
    Bard: Were those monsters... deformed?
Tanjiro Kamado: So you do know something.
Tanjiro Kamado: Sorry, but I could tell you were lying from the start.
Tanjiro Kamado: I could smell it on you.
Bard: What are you talking about...
Vyrn: Look, we're begging you, okay? Just talk!
Lyria: Please! This is bigger than your village.
Lyria: The whole world could end!
Bard: The whole world, you say...
Bard: Ha... Hahaha! Oh, that's rich! Looks like I was right after all!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Did... Did he just lose it?
    Bard: Then let it end.
Vyrn: What! But, like, a billion lives are at stake!
Bard: These skies hold nothing for me. They can crash and burn, for all I care!
Lyria: How could you say that?
    Bard: Haha... Hahaha...
Tanjiro Kamado: Um... I heard that your daughter passed away. Is that why you've given up on the world?
    Bard: ...
Bard: It wasn't just my daughter. My wife died before her.
Bard: She was killed by monsters. Not too long after, my daughter went out into a thunderstorm and was crushed by a landslide.
Bard: Those beasts tore my wife to shreds. By the time I got there, the only way I could recognize her was by the clothes she had on.
Bard: I couldn't do anything for my daughter either... I just dug her hand out from under the debris and held on to it. It was like ice.
    Zenitsu Agatsuma: I'm sorry...
Bard: I was useless. The villagers were useless. Nobody came to help them... to save them.
Bard: They were my everything. But the world took them from me.
Bard: I haven't just given up on the world... I hate it. I want it to rot.
Lyria: You've been through so, so much. But the skies—
Vyrn: If the skies fall, you're dead too!
Bard: Hah! Yeah, that's part of the plan.
Tanjiro Kamado: But what about Lyle, about Elly? Aren't they your family too?
Bard: We live together. But we aren't family. My only family...
Bard: My wife and my daughter... They were murdered by these skies.
Bard looks up at the sky. Dolor and despair cloud his eyes, cutting off their light.
Giyu Tomioka: It doesn't matter what your reasons are.
Giyu Tomioka: You sent Lyle and his sister to the shrines, knowing what would happen?
Bard: Yeah, I did. I knew you needed a sacrifice to open the gate to the Otherworld. And those two were so easy to bait.
    Zenitsu Agatsuma: That's terrible...
Giyu Tomioka: I don't know much about this world, but...
Giyu directs his next question towards (Captain) and Lyria.
Giyu Tomioka: Do monsters often kill people?
Lyria: Yes... People do what they can to defend against them, and skyfarers like us even hunt them but...
Lyria: We just can't stop the flow of sadness.
Vyrn: You know... we even have crewmates that've lost friends and family 'cause of monsters.
Tanjiro Kamado: No... There are no demons in the world and still...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: I guess no matter where you are, there will always be a reason to cry...
    Giyu Tomioka: Tragedy is everywhere.
Bard: What are you trying to say?
Bard: That just because I'm not special, I shouldn't grieve? I shouldn't be angry?
Bard: That I should shut up, suck it up, forget it, paint on a smile, and live out the rest of my life?
Giyu Tomioka: No. I wouldn't say that. But...
Giyu Tomioka: You've turned your grief, your anger, your hate into a weapon, and you've leveled it against everyone who lives in these skies. That can't be justified.
    Bard: What would you know!
    Giyu Tomioka: ...

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 4: Reflection of the Heart - Episode 3

Medusa, Nezha, Rengoku, Shinobu, and Inosuke strike out for the shrines. Nezha shares two more of his deductions: that the shrines are there to seal off an Otherworld gate and that this gate has a primal beast as its keeper. Their conversation is then interrupted by the appearance of more aberrations.

Kyojuro Rengoku: Is this the right path?
Medusa: Uh, yeah. What? You think I'm gonna get us lost?
Kyojuro Rengoku: No, not at all! This land is new to us. We must trust to you.
Medusa: Then stop questioning every little thing and follow. Anyways, I've already seen the shrines. Yesterday, when I was flying over on Medusiana.
Shinobu Kocho: Actually, I wanted to ask about that. Couldn't she fly us around this island as well?
Medusa: If she could, she would.
Medusa: But something's scaring her off. I think it's this Otherworld energy spreading everywhere.
    Shinobu Kocho: It affects her?
Nezha: So this is just a theory, and it's hard to explain but...
Nezha: Let's just say that Otherworld and Astral energies are incompatible. And primal beasts run on Astral energy.
Shinobu Kocho: But what about you? Aren't you also primal beasts?
Medusa: Yeah. We're not feeling that great, but we definitely have it better than Medusiana.
Medusa: Basically, Medusiana doesn't have a core. She's almost like this pure ball of Astral energy...
Medusa: You have no idea what I'm saying, do you?
Kyojuro Rengoku: We do not. Indeed, we may never fully understand the workings of your world!
Kyojuro Rengoku: However, I wish to learn more of this "Otherworld gate."
Kyojuro Rengoku: Nezha, it seems that you have long studied the Otherworld and are well versed in its lore.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Will you not tell us all that you know?
Shinobu Kocho: Yes, please. We'll need all the information we can get if we're ever to find a way home.
Nezha: Of course. Now... I believe yesterday Vyrn gave you a quick overview about the Otherworld.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Yes. He said it is a place that cannot normally be reached, cut off from the skies. Should the two worlds stay linked, it will likely prove to be the ruin of us all.
Shinobu Kocho: Hence, the name "Otherworld."
Kyojuro Rengoku: When I heard this, a thought crossed my mind...
Kyojuro Rengoku: Could the Otherworld not be the world we come from?
Nezha: I see... An interesting hypothesis.
Medusa: Wait. Am I missing something here? I thought you said you'd never seen those Otherworld creeps.
Nezha: But space and distance are now warped. That could influence how we perceive things and process sensory information.
Medusa: Okay, wait. This is going way over my head.
Nezha: However, I believe that the skies and what we now call the "Otherworld" were once a single entity.
Nezha: But somewhere along the way, the Otherworld broke off and was lost beneath the skies, allowing our current world to take shape.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Then what of young Lyle's words—his insistence that the Otherworld is the final home of the dead?
Nezha: The Otherworld and the afterworld are often used synonymously. However, that seems odd to me.
Nezha: Now, it is true that those who fall to the bottom of the skies can never return.
Nezha: And, in that sense, being in the Otherworld is as good as being dead.
Nezha: But, let's assume, for the sake of argument, that souls do exist. It's hard for me to imagine that they would descend beneath the skies to the Otherworld.
Shinobu Kocho: Then all of Lyle's efforts were in vain?
Nezha: I hate to say it, but yes, I think so.
Shinobu Kocho: I'd thought as much... A way to see the dead again... That would have been too good to be true.
Medusa: Okay. But the problem isn't whether or not ghosts live in the Otherworld. It's that the Otherworld exists.
Nezha: Medusa's right. So, I recently looked into past instances of the skies and Otherworld connecting.
Nezha: There weren't many, of course. But it has happened before, both by chance and by design.
Kyojuro Rengoku: So Otherworld gates have been opened before...
Nezha: Yes. That's the most common way to link the worlds.
Nezha: But you could also force them together through magic.
Nezha: It'd be like performing a summoning of sorts. But, of course, it's both highly dangerous and forbidden.
Medusa: Now that you mention it, didn't someone try to use that spell kinda recently? To revive the dead or something?
Nezha: Yes. Which brings up another point. Generally speaking, it's skydwellers who attempt to initiate contact with the Otherworld—and not the other way around.
Nezha: However, there was a time when invasions from the Otherworld were frequent.
Medusa: Yeah, like thousands of years ago, right? Before even I was born.
Shinobu Kocho: Thousands of years! It's hard to picture the scale of it all.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Were the invasions carried out by creatures like the ones from yesterday?
Nezha: I would assume so. But much of that history has been lost to time.
Medusa: I mean, if we tried, we could probably find primals who were alive back then...
Medusa: But, considering how the world's totally different now, it really wouldn't do much for us.
Nezha: I do get the feeling that the shrines on this island are ancient—far older than the spells or any other links utilized in recent years.
    Medusa: Wait! Really?
Nezha: I believe the shrines were built not to establish a path to the Otherworld, but to seal one off.
Nezha: However, it should be a relatively primitive seal—one that can be broken without the use of magic or force.
Medusa: Makes sense. Lyle and his sister opened the shrines, and they're just normal kids.
Medusa: But you do need a sacrifice...
    Shinobu Kocho: A sacrifice?
Medusa: So I couldn't say this yesterday 'cause Lyle was there, but...
Medusa: The book Nezha was reading said that, to open the Otherworld gate on this island, you needed a living sacrifice.
Shinobu Kocho: But that would mean Lyle's sister...
Medusa: We don't know that yet.
    Kyojuro Rengoku: ...
Nezha: One more thing. Some sources say there's a gatekeeper on this island.
Medusa: Oh right. I remember that... Hunh. Come to think of it, none of this would've happened if somebody had been doing their job.
Nezha: Perhaps there's a reason they can't. Remember, Lyria said she sensed a faint presence—similar to that of a dormant primal.
Medusa: Oh! You think that primal's the gatekeeper?
    Nezha: It's a possibility.
Shinobu Kocho: Primals... That's what you are, right?
Inosuke Hashibira: What's a primal anyways?
Medusa: Oh yeah. Guess we never did tell you.
Medusa: Well, we can't just leave you ignorant, so let me explain.
Medusa: Primal beasts are a type of magnificent creature created by the Astrals.
Medusa: We have god-like powers and've been around for hundreds, no thousands of years. We're on a whole different level from you puny mortals!
Shinobu Kocho: Thousands of years? Are you immortal?
Nezha: Well, a human like you might say we have "eternal youth."
Nezha: However, the way we conceptualize life and death is different, so there's really no simple answer to your question.
Kyojuro Rengoku: I sensed there was great power within you...
Kyojuro Rengoku: But I did not know that you were deities!
Medusa: Hah. So, now do you see how awesome primals are?
Inosuke Hashibira: Nope! You guys are beasts, right? Then I'm king of the beasts!
Medusa: What! Why doesn't anything that comes out of your mouth ever make sense!
Medusa: And just FYI! I'm one of the three Gorgon Sisters. Even among primals, we're exalted! Not to mention—
    Shinobu Kocho: The sky...
    Kyojuro Rengoku: They are coming!
Inosuke Hashibira: Finally! I'm ready for you!
    Aberration: ...!
Medusa: Excuse me! I was talking!
Medusa: These Otherworld things are so creepy!
Nezha: Is this your first time seeing them?
Medusa: Uh, yesterday was. But before that, of course I'd never seen them! They shouldn't even be here in the first place.
    Nezha: Good point.
    Aberration: ...!
    Inosuke Hashibira: Ora ora ora!
Shinobu Kocho: (Insect Breathing Butterfly Dance...)
    Shinobu Kocho: Caprice.
Shinobu Kocho: The wisteria poison isn't affecting them... They really aren't demons.
    Medusa: Hey, Nezha!
    Nezha: What is it?
Medusa: There's no end to them! Do you think the gate's already opened all the way?
    Nezha: No, it's too early!
Nezha: Anyway, I doubt this is the full power of the Otherworld.
    Medusa: Okay... Fair.
Shinobu Kocho: My, there's only a few of them left now.
Inosuke Hashibira: What? Is that all you've got? I was just getting started!
    Kyojuro Rengoku: Inogashira! Concentrate!
    Inosuke Hashibira: Whoa!
Kyojuro Rengoku: First Form... Unknowing Fire!
Shinobu Kocho: You're as impressive as ever, Rengoku.
Nezha: His strikes flow like flame... Remarkable. I'd like to spar—
Medusa: Don't you dare finish that sentence! Now's not the time. Or place.
Nezha: Medusa, you don't need to tell me. I wasn't going to challenge him now.
Nezha: I was simply going to say, "I'd like to spar with you sometime."
    Medusa: Okay, sure, whatever.
Medusa: Oh great. Look! While you were gushing over Rengoku, more of them appeared!

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 4: Reflection of the Heart - Episode 4

The party that went to Troue joins the fray. They were led there by Lyria, who sensed the awakening of a dormant primal likely to be the gatekeeper. As if on cue, the primal itself appears and wipes out the aberrations. It is, however, in the midst of a blind rampage and quickly turns on (Captain) and the others.

    Aberration: ...!
Inosuke Hashibira: Beast Breathing Third Fang!
    Inosuke Hashibira: Devour!
Inosuke Hashibira: Muahahaha! Yes! Keep coming! Give me endless targets to train on!
Medusa: No one cares about your training! Can't your tiny brain understand the situation we're in?
    Inosuke Hashibira: Huh? What situation?
Medusa: Sure it might be fun now, smacking around a few creepos, but—
Inosuke Hashibira: They're never gonna stop coming, right? That's why they're good for training!
    Medusa: Wrong, genius!
Medusa: You think I'd be this worried about putting some creeps back in their place? No, I'd tell you to knock yourself out.
Medusa: You puny little mortals could even take them alone. With me and Nezha around, they don’t stand a chance.
Medusa: But it doesn't end there—
    Shinobu Kocho: Medusa!
    Medusa: Th-thanks.
Shinobu Kocho: Hehe. You're very welcome.
Shinobu Kocho: Now, would you mind finishing that train of thought? I know it's dangerous to chat during a fight, but...
Shinobu Kocho: I'm a bit curious.
Medusa: Oh, really? Uh, okay. Where was I...
Nezha: If the gates fully open, then the Otherworld and the skies will intersect.
    Medusa: Yeah, and that's bad!
Shinobu Kocho: Lyria said the same thing... but what exactly will happen?
Medusa: Worst case scenario, the world ends.
Nezha: We're still unsure about the laws that would govern this process.
Nezha: However, we know that the skies and the Otherworld are opposing forces. If the boundary between the two worlds were to melt away...
    Nezha: Causality would deteriorate.
Inosuke Hashibira: I don't know what a boundary is. Or cuzzle-tea...
Inosuke Hashibira: But if they disappear, that's bad, right?
    Medusa: Mrph...
Nezha: What's the matter, Medusa? You and Inosuke are both correct. The situation certainly would be bad.
Medusa: Yeah, but I don't want to have the same vocabulary as a boar!
Shinobu Kocho: Right now, the Otherworld gate's our only hope of ever getting home... But I never knew it was so dangerous...
Kyojuro Rengoku: Where is the gatekeeper? Why has it failed to carry out its duty?
Medusa: Going off what Lyria said... It's probably dormant.
    Inosuke Hashibira: Door-mint?
Nezha: That means it's sleeping in its core state.
Inosuke Hashibira: If it's sleeping, just wake it up!
Medusa: It's not that easy, genius!
Medusa: If it were, I'd have woken up my sisters a long time ago.
Shinobu Kocho: Your sisters? Are they—
    Aberration: ...!
Inosuke Hashibira: More are coming! A lot more!
Shinobu Kocho: Well, it seems our conversation must end here.
Medusa: Uugh! At this rate, we're never gonna reach the shrines!
Nezha: This would be far simpler if Baal were here.
    Medusa: Yeah! No kidding!
Medusa: He could've told us more about the dormant primal!
Medusa: But, too bad for us, he's also never there when you need him!
Kyojuro Rengoku: What about Lyria? I thought she could sense primals.
Medusa: She can. But apparently, dormant primals don't have much of a presence...
    Lyria: M-Medusa! Is everyone okay?
Kyojuro Rengoku: Oh. Right on cue!
Vyrn: Pant, pant... Finally caught up!
Vyrn: And you're surrounded by mutants?
Hunh. Guess I shoulda seen this comin', with the sky turnin' red and all.
Medusa: You're late! But, oh well. It's still better than never.
Nezha: Did you learn anything at the village?
Lyria: Oh, yes! Well, a little. But we don't have time for that now!
Lyria: The primal beast, its presence... It suddenly got stronger... And just now—
    ???: ...!
    Lyria: It's here!
Medusa: Yeah, thanks. I can see that!
    Kyojuro Rengoku: It's another deformity!
Shinobu Kocho: That's also a primal?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: It's got two faces!
Inosuke Hashibira: And four arms! I bet it's strong!
    ???: ...
Tanjiro Kamado: It looks like a demon, but it doesn't smell like one.
Tanjiro Kamado: It kind of smells like Medusa and Nezha...
    Giyu Tomioka: Look out!
    Tanjiro Kamado: ...!
Giyu Tomioka: Water Breathing Fourth Form...
    Giyu Tomioka: Striking Tide!
Tanjiro Kamado: Tomioka! I'm sorry, I...
    Giyu Tomioka: It's fine. Concentrate!
Vyrn: So on the one hand, we've got this funky-looking primal, and on the other, we've got a bunch of freaky Otherworlders...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: I can't do this anymore! I'm just a weak little human. Someone protect me!
    Vyrn: Zenitsu, pull yourself together!
Vyrn: But man... What are we gonna do?
    1. Let's finish off the Otherworlders.
    2. Let's focus on the primal.

Choose: Let's finish off the Otherworlders.
Vyrn: Okay, you say that but...
Vyrn: Have you seen how many there are?
Nezha: They won't stop coming until we cut off their source!

Choose: Let's focus on the primal.
Lyria: Its thoughts are muddled... I still can't hear its voice...
Medusa: Groggy, huh? Well, that's what you get for sleeping in late!
    Continue 1
    ???: Other... world...
    Lyria: Huh?
    ???: O... ther!
    Zenitsu Agatsuma: Eep!
Shinobu Kocho: It finished all those creatures with one attack!
Tanjiro Kamado: I can't believe it...
Inosuke Hashibira: Whoa... It really is strong!
Inosuke Hashibira: Hey, Four-Arms! Fight me next!
    ???: Defend... the...
Vyrn: Whoa! It's aimin' for us now!
    Zenitsu Agatsuma: Ahhh! Nooo!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Inosuke! This is all because you had to open your big mouth!
Inosuke Hashibira: Get out of my face! If you're scared, run and hide!
    ???: ...!
    Kyojuro Rengoku: Hah!
Kyojuro Rengoku: I do not know your purpose. But I know to never turn my back to the enemy!

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Interlude

Its energy spent, the primal falls asleep. Nezha observes that when it took down the aberrations, the red in the sky wavered. This likely means that the primal has direct power over the Otherworld. However, there is no way to test this hypothesis while the subject in question slumbers.

    ???: ...
Inosuke Hashibira: Huh? It stopped moving!
Nezha: Yes, but it's still maintaining its form, so I'd assume it hasn't gone back to being dormant.
    Lyria: I think it's sleeping.
Vyrn: Wait. So after nearly killin' us, it just falls asleep?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Yeah, what is up with this thing? Is it our friend? Our enemy? I don't know!
Kyojuro Rengoku: This colossus... You said it was a primal.
Lyria: Yeah. I'm sure it is.
    Shinobu Kocho: Then primals...
Shinobu Kocho: They don't all look human—like you two?
Medusa: You mean me and Nezha?
    Shinobu Kocho: Yes.
Medusa: Nope. Sure I've got ten toes, two arms, and one head, but we aren't confined to this form.
Nezha: Primals come in all shapes and sizes. Many are humanoid, but...
Nezha: Some resemble animals. And some are a complex configuration of parts that don't fall under any one category.
Medusa: Though I'd call pint-sized over there humanoid. Just take away the extra face.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Yeah... The extra face... is definitely not the only problem...
Medusa: Hah. You look surprised. But I already told you.
Medusa: You can't hold us to the same standards as you mortals. We primals are more magnificent than anything you thought possible!
Vyrn: Okay, okay, we get it. Sheesh, how long are you gonna keep harpin' on the same string?
Medusa: Rude! And for your information, I'm gonna harp on for however long I want, and you're gonna like it!
Kyojuro Rengoku: This world is full of strange marvels!
Giyu Tomioka: Us being here is a strange marvel in itself.
    Kyojuro Rengoku: True indeed!
Shinobu Kocho: I don't know if I'll ever get used to slaying things that aren't demons... or fighting when it's bright out...
Shinobu Kocho: The sky is so blue...
    Kyojuro Rengoku: Yes...
Kyojuro Rengoku: At home, unless we are training, we rarely draw swords beneath the sun.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Demons only come out at night in our world. But in this one, the skies are scary even during the day.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: You've got your monsters and your primals and your freaky Otherworld thingies...
    Lyria: Um...
Lyria: Yes, there's lots to be afraid of, but the skies are also filled with wonderful things!
Vyrn: Yeah! Like the feeling of being on an airship, cruisin' through the sky... Man, you just never get sick of it!
Tanjiro Kamado: Wait. Cruising through the sky?
Inosuke Hashibira: Hah-hah-hah! Guess you didn't know yet, Santaro! I got to fly on a giant snake!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: You call that flying? Kind of felt more like one giant hop to me.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Actually, I didn't know what was happening. I thought I was going to die! I was so scared, I could've died!
    Inosuke Hashibira: Shut it, wimp!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: I mean, if I fell, it'd have been game over!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Who knows how long I'd have fallen for! We can't even see the bottom of the skies!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: What'd I do to deserve that? I don't know. It was terrifying!
    Medusa: Um, excuse me?
Medusa: Medusiana went through the trouble of hauling your screaming butt over here, and this is how you thank her?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Oh. No, Medusa! Don't get the wrong idea! It's not like I'm not grateful, but...
Medusa: Nezha! Why aren't you sticking up for Medusiana!
    Nezha: ...
Medusa: Oh. It's 'cause you're not listening.
    Nezha: No, I wasn't...
Nezha murmurs, still ensconced deep in thought, his eyes fixed on the sleeping primal.
Medusa: Sigh... What are you trying to do? Stare it awake?
Nezha: Didn't you notice? When this primal appeared and when it repelled the Otherworld horde...
Nezha: The red in the sky wavered.
Medusa: Oh... Yeah, it did feel like something weird was going on.
Nezha: That red is a visual representation of Otherworld power.
Medusa: And it wavered... That means pint-sized did something directly to the Otherworld, right?
Medusa: That's probably how it beat all those ghouls so quickly...
Kyojuro Rengoku: Do all primals hold sway over the Otherworld?
Medusa: Nope. I'm actually surprised this one does.
Nezha: Like our forms, primal powers vary widely between specimens.
Vyrn: No kidding. I've seen some that were wild—like straight-up miracles.
Tanjiro Kamado: Miracles? What kinds of miracles?
Medusa: Well, I turn things to stone with a glance. That miraculous enough for you mortals?
Vyrn: I mean, Snake Girl's pretty cool, but there are some other really awesome powers like...
Lyria: Um... Well, we met a primal that could turn back time and rewrite history...
    Tanjiro Kamado: What? That's unbelievable...
Vyrn: Yep. But again, those guys were super special. Besides, powers that are way insane always come with a price.
Tanjiro Kamado: Yeah... I guess that makes sense.
Tanjiro Kamado: But if primals like that exist, then... it's not so weird that this one can affect the Otherworld, right?
Nezha: Sort of. I wouldn't call it weird, but I would call it singular.
Medusa: Primals are part of the skies. So are time and history. But the Otherworld is a completely different domain.
Medusa: And like Nezha said. Astral and Otherworld energies do not mesh.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Hm... The discourse grows more and more complex.
Kyojuro Rengoku: But if I understand it aright, you are saying that the Otherworld does not exist in these skies. And one cannot influence what is not there.
Nezha: Yes. That's how things normally go, at least.
Nezha: But this is the gatekeeper we're talking about. It might have been granted some special power over the Otherworld.
Shinobu Kocho: I see... That does seem likely, given the circumstances.
Medusa: Okay, guys, enough. Standing here guessing in circles isn't gonna get us anywhere.
Tanjiro Kamado: You're right. We don't have enough information to figure anything out yet.
    Inosuke Hashibira: Hey. I'm hungry.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Inosuke, is now really the time?
Tanjiro Kamado: Sounds like his stomach thinks it is...
Lyria: Heh. Actually, that one was me.
Inosuke Hashibira: Haha! So you're hungry too, Lyrio?
Lyria: Mm-hm. I got some food back at the village. We should all share it!
Inosuke Hashibira: Nice! You get to be my newest minion!
Vyrn: Uh, don't let Boarface near the food yet. I have a feeling he's gonna eat everything.
Inosuke Hashibira: What'd you say, Geckosuke? How 'bout I eat you first!
Vyrn: What! H-hey, back off! I-I'm not edible, I swear!
Vyrn: Oh, and it's Vyrn! Stop callin' me by your weird nicknames!
Lyria: All right, Vyrn. Calm down. It's time to eat.
Tanjiro Kamado: You too, Inosuke. And stop forgetting people's names. It's rude.
Inosuke Hashibira: You calling me rude? Gonpachiro Kamaboko!
Tanjiro Kamado: I've told you! It's Tanjiro Kamado!
A short distance away from the yelling and the laughter, the two-faced primal continues to sleep.
    ???: ...
Nezha: Well... I suppose this mystery's going to have to wait.
Nezha turns and, reluctance making his feet drag a little, walks away.
    To be continued...

    Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 5: What's in a Name - Episode 1

The party that went to Troue Village relates Bard's confession. Medusa lambasts Bard for his indifference to any suffering that is not his own, and all agree to leave the still slumbering primal behind and race for the shrines.

Kyojuro Rengoku: Kamado, there is something I have been meaning to ask you!
Kyojuro Rengoku: Were you able to deliver young Lyle safely to the village?
Tanjiro Kamado: Yes. We got him to the village, but...
Kyojuro Rengoku: Hm? You sound troubled. Did something happen?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: We... talked to his uncle. And it was really depressing...
Kyojuro Rengoku: I see... Because he lost all that he loves, he has turned to hate...
Lyria: It's all terrible, and I feel really bad for him, but...
Vyrn: Apparently, ol' Bard's also visited the archives—on big brother island. That's where he learned about the shrines and the Otherworld...
Vyrn: Probably from the same books Nezha read.
Shinobu Kocho: Sigh... He's making quite a nuisance of himself, isn't he?
Nezha: Well, he plans to commit suicide—and take the skies down with him.
Medusa: No... There's no way I'm gonna let that happen!
Medusa: So, compared to us awe-inspiring primals, humans are weak and worthless and dumb...
Medusa: But that's the point. It's a big part of what makes you guys you.
Medusa: And sometimes, you run across fairly decent mortals, like (Captain) and the crew. And 'cause they're so puny and reckless, you wanna protect them...
Medusa: And that's kind of... a nice feeling...
    Lyria: Medusa...
Medusa: Anyways. Like I said, I'm not letting him get away with this.
Medusa: In the first place, this world doesn't belong only to you skydwellers.
Medusa: So many other things live here—not least of all us primals. But obviously, he doesn't care!
Vyrn: Snake Girl... Ya know, every once in a while, you actually say things that are pretty cool.
Medusa: Excuse me? I'm always supposed to be cool!
    Kyojuro Rengoku: A worthy resolve!
Shinobu Kocho: At any rate, our destination hasn't changed.
Giyu Tomioka: We make for the shrines.
    Vyrn: We're with ya there.
Lyria: It doesn't matter why the gates were opened. The skies can't stay connected to the Otherworld.
Vyrn: Yeah! We'll find a way to block off that portal—or blow it to pieces!
    Nezha: ...
    Medusa: Nezha? Is something wrong?
Nezha: No. Though I'd like to know more about how the gate on the island came to be.
Medusa: Nezha... We're in the middle of a crisis. So do me a favor and stop nerding out for one second.
Medusa: We have way more important things to do. Your little history lesson can wait.
Shinobu Kocho: Medusa, I don't think he's speaking from idle curiosity.
Shinobu Kocho: It wouldn't be wise to seal off or destroy the gate before we know anything about it.
Medusa: Fair, but do we really have the time to just sit around and think?
Tanjiro Kamado: I think we should hurry. I promised Lyle I would save his sister.
Tanjiro Kamado: She's already been missing for a whole night. And I'm worried that, as time goes on, things are going to get more dangerous.
Kyojuro Rengoku: It is true that we have need of haste.
Kyojuro Rengoku: If we delay much longer, I too fear that young Lyle's sister will be lost. But that is not all.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Remember, our own fates are tied to the shrines and the Otherworld gate.
Shinobu Kocho: Right... And for us, time is of the essence...
Vyrn: Then I guess we're racin' for the shrines!
Medusa: That's what I've been saying we should do from the start!
Nezha: Well, I suppose there are things I could discover from seeing the gate in person.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Oh... I don't like this... I really, really don't like this...
Tanjiro Kamado: Sorry, Zenitsu. But whether you like it or not, we have to keep going.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: I get that! I get that we're going no matter what, but it doesn't mean I have to like it! Do you get me? Why don't you get me!
    Tanjiro Kamado: Z-Zenitsu! Calm down!
Kyojuro Rengoku: Young men! Gather yourselves and come!
Inosuke Hashibira: Wait! We're leaving Four-Arms behind?
Vyrn: Huh? You talkin' about the primal?
    ???: ...
    Lyria: It's still asleep...
Inosuke Hashibira: When's it gonna wake up?
Lyria: Um... I'm not sure, but... it probably won't be for a while.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Inosuke! Stop bugging Lyria!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: And weren't we just talking about how we've got to get a move on?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: But, of course, you weren't listening... Why can't you learn to listen?
Inosuke Hashibira: Back off! I'll listen—once you guys start making sense!
Tanjiro Kamado: Please, you two have to stop fighting! The situation's dangerous enough as is.
Tanjiro Kamado: Those ghouls from the Otherworld could attack at any time. You need to have each other's backs.
Inosuke Hashibira: Ghouls? You mean those things that make your skin crawl and come out when the sky turns red?
Tanjiro Kamado: Yes. So we need to stay alert.
Inosuke Hashibira: Hah! Awesome! Minions, move out!
    Inosuke Hashibira: Comin' through!
    Tanjiro Kamado: Oh, Inosuke...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Oh... I really, really, really don't like this...

    Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 5: What's in a Name - Episode 2

As they near the gate, the group discovers that it is draining their life force. Shinobu then addresses Lyle, who has secretly been trailing them, and tells him that he does not have the strength to continue on.

    Medusa: There you are... Shinobu.
Shinobu Kocho: Medusa? Is something the matter?
Medusa: Nope. I also wanted to take a stroll. What about you? Isn't it about time you headed back?
Shinobu Kocho: I... I'd like to walk for just a little longer. It's been so long since I've had a night this quiet and peaceful.
    Medusa: 'Cause of the demons?
Shinobu Kocho: Yes. We often fight them from dusk until dawn.
    Medusa: Oh... Must be tough.
Medusa singles out a tree near Shinobu, and leans her shoulder against it.
Medusa: Hey... Do you resent Tanjiro?
    Shinobu Kocho: Why would I?
Medusa: Mm... So it's not him. It's the sister.
    Shinobu Kocho: Nezuko?
Medusa: Is it 'cause she's a demon?
Shinobu Kocho: No, I... Resent is too strong a word.
    Medusa: Is it?
Shinobu Kocho: But... it isn't easy, being around her. My parents and elder sister were killed by demons.
    Medusa: I'm sorry.
Shinobu Kocho: Of course, it wasn't Nezuko. But, when it comes to demons, I...
    Shinobu Kocho: ...
The rest of Shinobu's sentence fades into the darkness. She lifts her face towards the sky, her eyes searching, her smile sad.
The wind rustles the sable leaves above. Between the swaying shadows, pale stars flash and glimmer.
Medusa: So that's why... You kept saying tonight was so quiet and beautiful, but your eyes felt really cold.
    Shinobu Kocho: What?
Medusa: I've also got big sisters. Two of them.
    Shinobu Kocho: Oh. How nice.
Medusa: I've never met your sister, but...
Medusa: I know that no matter how much you laugh and cry and get angry... it'll never change how much she loves you.
    Shinobu Kocho: ...
Medusa: Well, I'm gonna head back now! Don't stay out too late, okay?
    Shinobu Kocho: ...
Tanjiro Kamado: Um, Shinobu? It's not just me, right?
Shinobu Kocho: No, it isn't. How are you feeling, Rengoku?
Kyojuro Rengoku: Terrible! Each step is harder than the last!
Vyrn: Then why does it sound like you're havin' the time of your life... Ugh, I'm startin' to feel dizzy...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: What's happening to us? It's not just 'cause the air's thin up here, right? Are we sick! Dying! Cursed!
Nezha: Something's draining our life force.
Medusa: Yeah, and FYI, it's affecting us primals too. Which is so annoying!
Shinobu Kocho: We can still press on for a while though. I think Total Concentration Breathing helps.
    Lyria: Total Concentration Breathing?
Shinobu Kocho: It's a special breathing technique we use. To put it simply...
Shinobu Kocho: We strengthen the functioning of our heart and lungs, which allows large amounts of oxygen into the bloodstream. This, in turn, boosts all of our physical abilities.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Yes. Young men. You must not let Total Concentration, Constant falter.
    Tanjiro Kamado: Yes, sir!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Ahh... I'm in pain... Please, have mercy...
Nezha: This may be what the fairy tale was referring to when it mentioned a living sacrifice.
Shinobu Kocho: I see... So vital energy from the sacrifice is the key to unsealing the shrines—and opening the gate to the Otherworld.
Medusa: Hold up... Wouldn't that mean...
Medusa: That, at this moment, our life force is being used to open the gate further?
    Nezha: It's very likely.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Wait... Then aren't we making things worse by going to the shrines?
Lyria: We might be... But what else can we do?
    1. Do you want to turn back?
    2. We have to push on.

Choose: Do you want to turn back?
Kyojuro Rengoku: Yes. It may be best if you returned to your ship. We, however, must continue on.
    Lyria: No, that's not...
Kyojuro Rengoku: It will be a blow to our strength. But I cannot bring myself to involve you any further.
Vyrn: You got it all wrong, pal. You didn't involve us in nothin'.

Choose: We have to push on.
    Tanjiro Kamado: Are you sure?
    Vyrn: You bet.
    Continue 1
Lyria: We came to this island on a mission. And even if we hadn't—
Vyrn: This is our world at stake here. Ain't no way we're staying on the sidelines.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Very well! I see that your resolve cannot be shaken.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Let us walk this road together. We, to find a path home. And you, to protect the future of the skies!
Tanjiro Kamado: I'm glad you're sticking with us.
Shinobu Kocho: Now, I don't mind going on despite the risks, but...
Shinobu Kocho: At the very least, we can't bring him with us.
    Lyria: Bring who?
    Lyle: Oh.
    Tanjiro Kamado: Lyle?
    Lyle: Ta-Tanjiro...
    Tanjiro Kamado: Are you okay?
    Lyle: ...
Giyu Tomioka: He's weak... A good amount of his life force has also been drained.
Tanjiro Kamado: Why are you here? It's dangerous, and you're alone!
    Lyle: I'm... sorry... But...
Tanjiro Kamado: You're worried about your sister, right? I know. I know, but...
Tanjiro Kamado: I told you to trust us. We made a promise.
Lyle: It's not that I don't trust you guys.
Lyle: It's weird, 'cause we just met and all, but... I know none of you would ever break a promise.
    Lyle: But... But...
Lyle: Elly's my sister! I need to be there for her!
    Tanjiro Kamado: Lyle...
Lyle: I swear I won't cry! Or complain! So take me with you. Please!
    Tanjiro Kamado: ...
Giyu Tomioka: Do you think your sister would want you endangering your life to save her?
    Lyle: ...
    Tanjiro Kamado: Tomioka...
Shinobu Kocho: Sigh... Tomioka, you really must learn to be more gentle with your words.
Shinobu Kocho: Now... Lyle, was it?
    Lyle: Uh-huh...
Shinobu Kocho: I can see you're very determined. And your heart's in the right place.
    Lyle: So I can—
Shinobu Kocho: But no matter how determined you are or how good your intentions, if you aren't strong enough, you will never achieve anything.

    Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 5: What's in a Name - Episode 3

After hearing that it would break Elly's heart if anything were to happen to him, Lyle agrees to turn back. That is when Rengoku addresses Bard, who was trailing the boy to protect him. After asking Shinobu to deliver a honeysuckle to Elly for him, Lyle returns to the village with his uncle.

    Lyle: Huh?
Shinobu Kocho: You aren't strong enough, Lyle. We can't take you with us.
    Lyle: But...
Giyu Tomioka: You call that gentle?
Shinobu Kocho: Did you have something to say, Tomioka?
    Giyu Tomioka: ...
Shinobu Kocho: No? Then I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't interrupt.
Shinobu Kocho: Now, Lyle. Tanjiro promised to save your sister, didn't he?
    Lyle: Yeah... He did...
Shinobu Kocho: Then give him a chance to fulfill that promise.
Shinobu Kocho: I haven't known Tanjiro for very long either, but I'm certain he'd never break his word.
    Tanjiro Kamado: Shinobu...
Shinobu Kocho: And, just between us, I'm even stronger than he is! If anything goes wrong, I'll be there to set it right again.
    Lyle: ...
Tanjiro Kamado: Yep. So there's nothing to worry about.
Tanjiro Kamado: And it's just like Tomioka said. What if you got hurt trying to save your sister?
Tanjiro Kamado: When Elly got back, she'd be so sad.
    Lyle: She would?
Medusa: You might be her brother, but you don't have a clue what goes on inside Elly's head, do you?
Medusa: Listen. You older siblings always feel like you have to be the protector, but... we younger kids care just as much about you guys.
    Lyle: Even baby sisters?
Medusa: Even baby sisters. So you think you can be patient and wait now?
    Lyle: Yeah.
Tanjiro Kamado: Atta boy! I always knew you were brave.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Now... who are you there in the shadows?
    Bard: ...!
    Lyle: Uncle Bard?
Vyrn: What the! What're you doin' here?
Shinobu Kocho: Oh. He's who you were talking about...
Vyrn: You come to pull off your evil plan?
    Bard: I-I, uh...
Tanjiro Kamado: Um, would you mind taking Lyle back to the village?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: What! Tanjiro! Did you already forget what he did?
Tanjiro Kamado: I know. But Bard's lived with Lyle for three years now.
Tanjiro Kamado: And I can tell Lyle's really fond of him. That wouldn't be the case if there wasn't any love between them.
Tanjiro Kamado: And family isn't always blood...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Yeah... You're right. Now that I think about it, three years is a pretty long time.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Evil schemes aside, it'd be hard to care for someone that long... unless you actually cared about them.
Tanjiro Kamado: So can I trust Lyle to you?
    Bard: ...
Tanjiro Kamado: That's why you're here right? Because you were worried about him?
    Bard: Lyle. Let's go home.
    Lyle: Okay!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Be careful on your way back.
Nezha: It may be because of all the Otherworld energy swirling around, but there aren't any dangerous monsters in this vicinity. They should be able to reach the village intact.
    Lyle: Tanjiro, Zenitsu...
Lyle: Everybody... Please, bring Elly home.
    Tanjiro Kamado: We will.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: More like, they will. I'm probably gonna be useless.
    Lyle: Oh!
Lyle: I know this flower. When Elly plays in the mountains, she always picks a bunch. The nectar's really sweet...
Tanjiro Kamado: Oh. What's it called?
    Lyle: Um... I don't know.
Lyle: Elly's an expert on flowers and trees, but I was never really interested.
    Shinobu Kocho: It's called "suikazura."
    Lyle: "Suikazura"?
Shinobu Kocho: Though it might be known as something different in your world.
Nezha: "Honeysuckle" is the most common name for it. However, there are certain regions that also use the term "suikazura."
Shinobu Kocho: So it's still the exact same flower... even in the skies.
Lyle: "Suikazura"... Elly must be hungry by now...
Lyle: Miss, do you think you could give this to her for me?
Shinobu Kocho: Of course. I'll see that it gets to her safely.

    Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 5: What's in a Name - Episode 4

As they trudge on towards the shrines, the group discusses loss and how love has made them stronger.

(Captain) and the others see Bard and Lyle off. Then they turn and continue to haul their groaning bodies up the mountain.
    Zenitsu Agatsuma: So... about Lyle...
    Tanjiro Kamado: Hm?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: I don't know if it's just 'cause he's so worried about Elly, but he's stopped talking about wanting to see his parents.
Tanjiro Kamado: Yeah, now that you mention it...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Do you think he's moved on?
    Tanjiro Kamado: I'm not sure...
Inosuke Hashibira: Hah! This is dumb.
Inosuke Hashibira: Why would you want to see dead people? I don't get it.
Inosuke Hashibira: When things die, they stop moving. Then they rot, then they turn to dust, and then they're nothing.
Inosuke Hashibira: Why would you want to see nothing?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Inosuke... Stop talking like you understand anything!
Inosuke Hashibira: Do you get it then? Do you wanna see someone that's dead!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: No... I guess there isn't anyone in particular, but...
Inosuke Hashibira: Hah. So you don't get it either!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: I can empathize! Which is apparently a skill you don't have!
Inosuke Hashibira: You think you're so great—
    Tanjiro Kamado: Stop it. Please.
Tanjiro Kamado: I sort of get it... What it's like wanting to see someone you know you can't see, and yet not being able to stop yourself from wishing.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: I'm sorry, Tanjiro. I...
Tanjiro Kamado: No, Zenitsu. Thank you.
Tanjiro Kamado: When I think about my mom and my dad and my brothers and sisters, sometimes I get so lonely it's like I can't breathe...
Tanjiro Kamado: But then I remember Nezuko is still here and I start wanting, more than anything, to save all that happiness we could've had as a big family—and give it to her.
Tanjiro Kamado: Maybe Lyle feels the same way...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Yeah... I hope he does.
Kyojuro Rengoku: The more deeply you love someone, the more your heart yearns after them. And though your mind may know they are gone, it holds little sway over the passions of the heart.
Kyojuro Rengoku: But remember: the words and spirit of those we love will always be with us.
Tanjiro Kamado: You're right. I can feel it. They're there inside me.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Perhaps this is all wishful thinking... But, at the very least, I wish to lead my life with honor.
Kyojuro Rengoku: I would fulfill my duties with courage and kindness... so that if I ever should meet the dead again, I shall not be ashamed.
Medusa: Mortals are always worrying about how they should live.
Medusa: Maybe it's because you have tiny life spans; maybe it's because you could drop dead at any second... But really, it's not that complicated.
Medusa: You try your best for family and the people you care about. That doesn't change whether they're dead or alive.
Medusa: Sure, I'm a primal and completely different from you mortals, but...
Medusa: I know we have at least one thing in common. If it's for the sake of someone we love, there's no challenge we wouldn't face.
Lyria: Yeah... You're right. Loving people has made me stronger.
Medusa: Okay! Enough with the thinking!
Medusa: Listen, I am not letting the world my sisters live in be destroyed.
Medusa: So you guys can either get a move on, or get left behind!

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 6: Set the Skies Ablaze - Episode 1

The slumbering primal awakens and saves the group from yet another Otherworld ambush. It introduces itself as Ryomen Sukuna, keeper of the seals, and forbids (Captain) and the others from drawing any closer to the gate.

    Vyrn: Hey, look!
    Lyria: The sky's red...
Inosuke Hashibira: That means those things are coming!
Nezha: They likely are, but that's not all. We're drawing near the gate.
    Nezha: Look.
Nezha: Straight ahead of us, where the red gets deeper... The gate's right beneath that.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Eep! We're already here?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: So I've said this a million times before, but I'm completely useless!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Someone protect me! Tanjirooo!
Tanjiro Kamado: Zenitsu, calm down. I've also said this a million times before, but you're strong—
    Zenitsu Agatsuma: Ahh! They're here!
    Inosuke Hashibira: Haha! About time!
    Inosuke Hashibira: Ora ora ora!
Vyrn: What the! There's way too many of 'em!
Medusa: Guess we are getting closer to the gate.
    Shinobu Kocho: Yes, but—
Shinobu Kocho: It'll be hard to go any farther.
Tanjiro Kamado: Ugh... My body's not listening to me!
Kyojuro Rengoku: The gate to the Otherworld... Even now it drains our life!
    Zenitsu Agatsuma: Can't fight! Can't run! I just can't!
    Ahh!
Inosuke Hashibira: Hahaha! Out of the way, wimp!
    Inosuke Hashibira: Whoa!
    Kyojuro Rengoku: Hah!
Kyojuro Rengoku: Inogashira! Know the limits of your own strength!
Kyojuro Rengoku: Total Concentration, Constant can slow the weakening of our bodies, but it cannot stop it completely.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Right now, we do not have full control of our limbs. You must not overreach yourself!
    Inosuke Hashibira: Ngh!
Kyojuro Rengoku: Though... we may all be driven to our last breath before this battle is over.
Giyu Tomioka: I think we should split up.
Kyojuro Rengoku: I see. One party to keep the enemy at bay and another to seek out the gate.
Shinobu Kocho: That does make sense. After all, if we don't close the gates, there'll be no end to these creatures.
    Shinobu Kocho: However...
Shinobu Kocho: We're barely holding our ground as is, with all of us together.
Shinobu Kocho: If we split up, won't we get swept away?
Giyu Tomioka: We don't have a choice.
    Shinobu Kocho: Very well.
Shinobu Kocho: Then we Hashira should stay here and detain the enemy.
Shinobu Kocho: I believe we can hold out the longest. We have our breathing techniques, after all.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Yes. And Nezha has the most knowledge of the Otherworld. We must win him and the others safe passage to the shrines.
    Giyu Tomioka: Understood.
Shinobu Kocho: Take a moment to think about this, Tomioka. The three of us will have to work together. Can you do that?
    Giyu Tomioka: I can.
Shinobu Kocho: Are you certain? I'm a bit worried.
    Giyu Tomioka: ...
Shinobu Kocho: Hashira almost never fight side-by-side, after all.
Kyojuro Rengoku: It is true we are rarely sent on the same missions.
Kyojuro Rengoku: But I thought you and Tomioka went to Mount Natagumo together.
Shinobu Kocho: We did. But we never fought together—far from it.
    Giyu Tomioka: ...
Kyojuro Rengoku: Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained!
Shinobu Kocho: True... Then let's tell the others—
    Lyria: ...!
    It's coming!
    Lyria: Ah!
Medusa: What does that primal think it's doing!
    ???: I am sorry I'm late.
    Medusa: Huh?
    ???: ...!
    Tanjiro Kamado: They stopped moving...
Inosuke Hashibira: What? Too scared of me?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: No! Why would you even think that!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: It's probably 'cause of the primal. Though all it really did was glare at them.
Nezha: Is it controlling the soldiers directly?
Shinobu Kocho: Oh... I think our energy's returning.
Medusa: I still don't get what your deal is, but... you're on our side, right?
???: I have only come to carry out my role. But yes...
???: If you are here to resist the Otherworld, then our purpose is one and the same.
    Lyria: Your role... as gatekeeper?
???: Gatekeeper... Yes, perhaps that is a fitting title.
???: I was created by the Astrals to guard the portal to the Otherworld. I am called Ryomen Sukuna.
Tanjiro Kamado: Created by the Astrals?
    Medusa: All primals were.
Ryomen Sukuna: I must drive back the horde and seal the gate.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Seal the gate? But...
    Ryomen Sukuna: Leave this place.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Wait! We will not turn back!
    Ryomen Sukuna: What?
Kyojuro Rengoku: Ryomen Something! I understand the task that is appointed to you!
Kyojuro Rengoku: We too would see the seal restored.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Let us come with you to the gate!
    Ryomen Sukuna: I will not.
Tanjiro Kamado: B-but why? We have to go!
Ryomen Sukuna: This form allows me to gaze fixedly at both sides of the gate.
Ryomen Sukuna: This face, looking toward the Otherworld.
Ryomen Sukuna: And this face, looking toward the skies.
Ryomen Sukuna: It is my task not only to hold the Otherworlders at bay, but also to prevent folk of the sky from touching the seal.
Ryomen Sukuna: I cannot allow you to approach the gate.

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 6: Set the Skies Ablaze - Episode 2

Ryomen Sukuna declares that the Demon Slayers are fated to live in the skies. However, the Demon Slayers refuse to lay down their duty and, with the help of the crew, sway the primal. It agrees to take them to the gate and, there, attempt to reforge a link back to their world.

Ryomen Sukuna: Otherworlder or skydweller, none may draw near the gate. You are no exception.
Medusa: So basically, you're saying that you're gonna go close the gate now, so we can all just run along back home.
Ryomen Sukuna: Yes. The threat that encroaches on the skies will be banished. All shall be well again.
Vyrn: I mean, we don't have any complaints but...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: We do! How are we gonna get home!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Right now, that gate is our only clue to getting back to our original world, right?
Ryomen Sukuna: Original world? Then you...
    Ryomen Sukuna: ...
Ryomen Sukuna: I see. That is why your scent was strange to me.
Ryomen Sukuna: When the boundary between the skies and the Otherworld dissolved, it warped all of causality. This changed the course of your world as well.
Nezha: So the opening of the gates was the catalyst that brought them here.
Ryomen Sukuna: Yes. It is unfortunate, but you must give in to your new fate.
    Tanjiro Kamado: What!
Kyojuro Rengoku: No. We cannot forsake our world. If you will not grant us passage here, then we will seek another path.
Kyojuro Rengoku: There exists no force that can stop us—that can keep us from our home!
Ryomen Sukuna: Allow me to ask you a question. Why are you so desperate to return?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Huh? That's what you want to know?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Isn't it normal for people to want to go home? It's just how we feel. We don't need a reason.
Ryomen Sukuna: And yet, there is a reason you are here. You were led hither by a power that guides us all.
Ryomen Sukuna: I do not know its shape or what sets it in motion.
Ryomen Sukuna: But no matter how thin or faint, there is a connection between you and this world.
Ryomen Sukuna: That is what drew you in. It is how causality works.
Inosuke Hashibira: Huh? What about cosmos tea?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Inosuke, please, if you don't know what we're talking about, stay quiet! I'm already having a hard time following.
Ryomen Sukuna: Travelers, you drifted here on the waves of causality. Have you not considered that it may be your destiny to dwell in the skies?
Tanjiro Kamado: Even if you say that, I...
    Kyojuro Rengoku: I cannot stay!
    Tanjiro Kamado: Rengoku?
Kyojuro Rengoku: I do not know what fate binds me to these skies.
Kyojuro Rengoku: As you say, there may be a life here for me.
Kyojuro Rengoku: But it is not the one I have chosen. At home, there is a duty that I have sworn to fulfill. I will not turn aside from it!
Kyojuro Rengoku: If I cannot hold true to my word, how can I hold true to myself?
    Ryomen Sukuna: ...
Shinobu Kocho: Ryomen Sukuna, might I say something?
    Ryomen Sukuna: What is it?
Shinobu Kocho: You mentioned it was your task to keep the gate safe from both the Otherworld and the skies.
Shinobu Kocho: And yet, those siblings managed to undo the seal. Aren't you to blame for all this, in a way?
Medusa: Wow, Shinobu. You really came out and said it. But she's right.
Medusa: Why were you, the gatekeeper, dormant? You can't do your job like that.
Ryomen Sukuna: I am ashamed to say this but... I had been eaten away by Otherworld energy.
Vyrn: Makes sense... You were way too grumpy when you first woke up.
Lyria: It must've been the Otherworld power in your body. It sent you on a rampage.
Shinobu Kocho: I see. And are you feeling better now?
Ryomen Sukuna: Yes. I have recovered.
Shinobu Kocho: How? Is there... some sort of antidote within you?
    Ryomen Sukuna: No...
Ryomen Sukuna turns one of its faces towards Lyria.
Ryomen Sukuna: It was... the Girl in Blue.
    Lyria: What? Me?
Ryomen Sukuna: I will not try to deny the truth. I did not return to my senses on my own. I was led hither by a sapphire light.
Vyrn: And, just so we're clear, that sapphire light's Lyria, right?
    Ryomen Sukuna: Indeed.
Shinobu Kocho: Then you owe her a debt of gratitude.
Ryomen Sukuna: Do you mean to bargain with me?
Shinobu Kocho: Well... Not quite. After all, I don't have that right. Lyria does.
    Ryomen Sukuna: ...
    Lyria: U-um...
Lyria: All that you're doing—to close the gate and protect the skies—already means so much to me.
Lyria: But if you'd be willing to grant me just one more wish...
Lyria: Please help Shinobu and all our new friends get home safely.
Vyrn: I'd like to wish up the same thing! I mean, you heard 'em! It doesn't get more desperate than that!
    1. Help them, please.
    2. Not more than you can handle, is it?

    Choose: Help them, please.
Ryomen Sukuna: You are folk of the sky. They are outsiders. Why do you go so far for them?
Lyria: Um... Do you think it's weird?
Vyrn: Sure, we haven't known 'em for that long, but we can tell. They're good people!
Vyrn: Plus we went through a few life-threatening situations together, and that really sped up the friendship.
Ryomen Sukuna: I make no promises yet. You ask me to reverse causality—that is no simple matter.

Choose: Not more than you can handle, is it?
    Ryomen Sukuna: Oh?
Medusa: Haha! Love the sass, (Captain).
    Nezha: I'm also curious.
Nezha: You said they were carried here by waves of causality. Would it be possible to reverse the current and send them back where they came from?
Ryomen Sukuna: I cannot say yet.
    Continue 1
Ryomen Sukuna: First I must connect to the gate. Then all will be made clear.
Shinobu Kocho: It seems like there's hope, at least.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Then we must make the attempt. Lead on!
    Ryomen Sukuna: Very well.
Tanjiro Kamado: Thank you so much!
Ryomen Sukuna: We do not have much time. We must hasten to the gate.
The group continues up the trail, following in the shadow of the great primal. Shinobu slows her pace until she is walking side-by-side with Lyria.
    Shinobu Kocho: Lyria...
    Lyria: Yes?
Shinobu Kocho: About earlier. It feels like I forced you to speak up for us, and I wanted to apologize.
Lyria: No, you didn't force me to do anything! I meant every word that I said.
Lyria: I'm just happy I could help!
    Shinobu Kocho: Thank you.
And thank you as well, (Captain), Vyrn.
Shinobu Kocho: I couldn't have wished for kinder friends.

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 6: Set the Skies Ablaze - Episode 3

At the shrines, Ryomen Sukuna tells the Demon Slayers that it is yet possible to send them back to their world. However, Tanjiro says there is one last thing he must accomplish in the skies and, along with Nezuko, Shinobu, Vyrn, and (Captain), travels to the Otherworld in search of Elly.

Vyrn: I-is that the Otherworld gate?
The group is deep in the woods, surrounded by gnarled bark and a thick resinous scent.
Before them are two open shrines, standing on either side of a crimson whirlpool.
Tanjiro Kamado: A red vortex... It looks just like the one that sucked us in.
Inosuke Hashibira: Feels the same too. All sticky, like old spiderwebs.
Medusa: Mm... Gross, but not as bad as I thought it'd be. Also, there's no freaks popping out of it.
Lyria: The red isn't spreading beyond the portal either.
Ryomen Sukuna: Right now, my power is holding it in check.
Ryomen Sukuna: But if the seal is not quickly restored, Otherworld energy will spread across the skies, paving the way for a great invasion.
Vyrn: B-but you can fix the seal, right?
Ryomen Sukuna: I was granted that ability, yes.
Lyria: Um... So now that we're here... Do you think Tanjiro and the others can go back to their world?
Ryomen Sukuna: There are traces of a link—forged with a different dimension.
Kyojuro Rengoku: So there is a way home!
Ryomen Sukuna: While the gate remains open, I can remake the link, though only for a moment.
    Ryomen Sukuna: Are you ready?
    Tanjiro Kamado: Oh, wait!
(Captain) and Tanjiro's voices ring out at the same time.
A smile flits across each of their faces as they glance at each other. Then they turn towards Ryomen Sukuna.
Tanjiro Kamado: Lyle... Uh, the boy who opened the shrine—his sister's missing. Apparently, she got sucked into a portal.
Tanjiro Kamado: Do you know where she is now? I have to save her!
Ryomen Sukuna: The portal between the shrines? Then she was the sacrifice that undid the seals.
Tanjiro Kamado: When Bard sent Lyle and Elly here, he meant for them to die. But if there's any chance Elly's still okay...
Ryomen Sukuna: I detect a presence.
    Tanjiro Kamado: Really?
Ryomen Sukuna: A young girl from the skies. She is lost in the Otherworld.
    Shinobu Kocho: Is she alive?
Ryomen Sukuna: I did not think it possible, but yes. I sense there is yet life in her.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Thank goodness! So if we get her out of there now—
Ryomen Sukuna: The gate... the bridge between the worlds is my sole dominion. I cannot interfere with the Otherworld itself.
Tanjiro Kamado: Then I'll go! All I'm asking you to do is make me a path.
Ryomen Sukuna: You wish for me to send you into the Otherworld?
    Tanjiro Kamado: Yes! Please!
Ryomen Sukuna: I am a gatekeeper, not a fairy godmother.
Tanjiro Kamado: Oh, sorry! But I made a promise with Lyle, and I am not letting him down!
Ryomen Sukuna: The Otherworld is governed by laws of its own. There is no telling what may happen.
Ryomen Sukuna: The girl has not drifted far from the gate. However, great peril may still lie between. You must be prepared.
Tanjiro Kamado: Yes! I'm prepared! I will proceed with caution!
    Tanjiro Kamado: Oh, and...
Tanjiro Kamado: I owe you an apology, Rengoku. I know we really have to hurry, but...
Kyojuro Rengoku: You owe me nothing! There is always time for acts of kindness!
Kyojuro Rengoku: I would come with you, but the Otherworld is treacherous and our true duty lies at home. We cannot all go.
Shinobu Kocho: He's right. Rengoku and Tomioka should remain here. I'll go with Tanjiro.
Shinobu Kocho: Lyle's sister may be sick or injured. I'd be able to help her.
    Tanjiro Kamado: Shinobu. Thank you!
Shinobu Kocho: Not at all. Remember, I still have that flower from Lyle. I need to see that it gets delivered.
Tanjiro Kamado: Yeah. We'll find Elly. I'm sure of it.
Tanjiro Kamado: Oh, right. Nezuko, you should—
    Tanjiro Kamado: What? You're awake?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Kinda sounds like she wants to go with you.
    Tanjiro Kamado: Okay. Got it.
Tanjiro Kamado: We stick together, Nezuko.
Tanjiro shifts the wooden box so it sits more securely on his shoulders.
(Captain) steps forward and offers to go with him to the Otherworld.
Tanjiro Kamado: Thanks! I know you'll have my back.
    Lyria: I'm coming too!
Lyria clings onto (Captain)'s arm. The captain looks back at her.
    1. Wait here, Lyria.

    Choose: Wait here, Lyria.
Lyria: What? But why? If we're separated...
Vyrn: You haven't forgotten, have you? If you roam off too far, your life link's gonna snap.
(Captain) gives Vyrn a grim glance that says "I know."
Lyria: The Otherworld's terrifying, and we don't know what's in it.
Lyria: You're rushing headfirst into danger, and you want me to just wait here? I can't—
    1. I do want you to wait here.

Choose: I do want you to wait here.
(Captain) smiles. "Because if I know you're waiting, there's nothing that can keep me from coming back."
    Lyria: ...
    Lyria: Okay. I'll stay.
Lyria: I'll stay here and call your name again and again, so come back to me, okay?
(Captain) lays a hand over Lyria's and nods.
Vyrn: Don't worry. I'll bring (Captain) back even if it means draggin' this lug along the floor!
    Lyria: It's a promise!
Lyria: But still... it isn't fair, Vyrn. Why do you get to go with (Captain)?
    Vyrn: Well, uh...
    Lyria: Mph...
Vyrn: Come on, Lyria. Don't look at me like that!
    Ryomen Sukuna: Are you prepared?
Vyrn: Oh! Yeah, my bad! Ready for action!
Inosuke Hashibira: Then what are we waiting for!
    Tanjiro Kamado: Huh? Wait, Inosuke!
    Inosuke Hashibira: Let's—
Kyojuro Rengoku: Kamado, our party will stay and defend the gate. As for the young boar, I will look after him.
Inosuke Hashibira: Huh? What are you doing! Let go!
Kyojuro Rengoku: Kocho, keep them safe.
    Shinobu Kocho: Of course.
Inosuke Hashibira: Hey! Stop ignoring me!
Kyojuro Rengoku: Now, it is perilous to be near the gate when it opens! Come, Inogashira!
    Inosuke Hashibira: Raaah!
Shinobu Kocho: It's time we got going. If you would, Ryomen Sukuna.
    Ryomen Sukuna: Understood.
Ryomen Sukuna: Know that as the minutes pass, it will become more difficult to maintain the stability of time and space.
Tanjiro Kamado: So we have to hurry. Got it!
Ryomen Sukuna: Now, let us commence.
    Ryomen Sukuna: ...!
Medusa: Um, the sky's turning red again. Should we be worried?
Nezha: It's likely because Ryomen Sukuna has established a solid bridge to the Otherworld.
Medusa: Oh. And I'm guessing it's not just one-way.
Nezha: No. So be on your guard.

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Chapter 6: Set the Skies Ablaze - Episode 4

Tanjiro's party returns to the skies with Elly who, though unconscious, bears no grave injuries. At that moment, Ryomen Sukuna reveals that its power over the gate has weakened. As it struggles to regain control, the crew and the Demon Slayers join forces in a final stand against the Otherworld.

    Vyrn: G-gulp... So this—
    Shinobu Kocho: Now, everyone!
Shinobu Kocho: We've no time to be staring or saying things like, "So this is the Otherworld."
    Vyrn: O-oh. Yeah. You're right.
Shinobu Kocho: We must find Elly and return as soon as possible.
Shinobu Kocho: However, she's nowhere within sight.
    Tanjiro Kamado: ...
Tanjiro Kamado: Over there! I smell a human!
(Captain) and the others follow after Tanjiro.
Vyrn: I heard you had a good nose, Tanjiro, but this is, like, way beyond bloodhound level.
Vyrn: We can't even see her. How the heck can you smell her?
Tanjiro Kamado: Here... in the Otherworld, I guess humans are the anomaly. So we're easy to pick out.
Tanjiro Kamado: And since this scent reminds me of Lyle, I'm pretty sure it's Elly.
Vyrn: Wow... That sure is a nifty skill.
Tanjiro Kamado: Yeah. I'm just glad it's helping.
Tanjiro Kamado: But this entire area smells really dangerous, so we shouldn't stay—
    Shinobu Kocho: Tanjiro!
    Tanjiro Kamado: ...!
    Nezuko Kamado: ...!
    Aberration: ...
    Tanjiro Kamado: Nezuko!
Vyrn: Whoa, Nezuko! You really are strong!
Tanjiro Kamado: Everything smells like ghoul around here, so I didn't even notice that one coming.
Tanjiro Kamado: That was close. Thanks, Nezuko!
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Vyrn: Is it okay for her to be runnin' around? It's still daytime, you know.
Tanjiro Kamado: True, but we're in a different world now. I don't think time works the same way here.
Vyrn: Fair. And I don't see a sun neither.
Tanjiro Kamado: If you're free to walk around, I guess things aren't so bad after all. Right, Nezuko?
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Nezuko takes hold of Tanjiro's hand, her eyes aglow with happiness.
Vyrn: Haha! Holdin' hands, huh? Y'all sure are close.
Shinobu Kocho: Yes. They really are...
Vyrn: Huh? Shinobu, you say somethin'?
Shinobu Kocho: No, I didn't. Anyways, we should—
    Tanjiro Kamado: Shinobu! (Captain)! Vyrn!
Tanjiro Kamado: I think I found her!
    Elly: ...
    Tanjiro Kamado: She's so still...
Shinobu Kocho: Tanjiro, please don't move her yet.
    Shinobu Kocho: ...
Shinobu Kocho: She has no big external wounds, nor does it seem like she has a concussion. Her breathing's regular.
Shinobu Kocho: Her lips are a bit cracked, so I think she's dehydrated, but it doesn't seem severe.
Shinobu Kocho: (Captain), wet a cloth with water from your canteen and hold it to her lips.
Shinobu continues to hand out rapid-fire instructions as she looks over Elly. After this quick burst of activity, she leans back and smiles.
Shinobu Kocho: She should be fine for now. But it would be best if we got her back quickly.
(Captain) nods and gently lifts Elly from the ground.
Vyrn: I gotta say though, it's a miracle she's still in one piece. It's like a ghoul bonanza in here.
Tanjiro Kamado: Yeah, I won't deny there was luck involved. But...
Tanjiro Kamado: That's probably not all. There's a current to the air.
Shinobu Kocho: Is it flowing towards the gate?
Tanjiro Kamado: Yes. Like how a river would.
    Shinobu Kocho: I see...
Shinobu Kocho: I'm not sure how, but I believe the ghouls are being drawn through the gate.
Shinobu Kocho: That's why, whenever it opens, they stream out and attack.
Vyrn: Ooh! That makes sense! The same thing happened last time someone forced the gate. It was just this huge invasion of ghouls.
Shinobu Kocho: It also appears that, if you're behind the gate, it can't drain your vital energy.
Tanjiro Kamado: Then... getting sucked in might've saved Elly's life.
Shinobu Kocho: Perhaps. But none of this is more than conjecture.
Tanjiro Kamado: Right... I'm just so glad she's safe!
    Ryomen Sukuna: ...
Nezha: Is stabilizing space a task that requires concentration?
Ryomen Sukuna: My mind must be bent upon it, yes.
Nezha: I suppose it would. Well, it seems a chat's out of the question...
Medusa: Nezha! Pint-sized is literally keeping our friends from being lost in the void, and you want to—
Ryomen Sukuna: No, I can speak. It is this side of me that must focus on the bridge to the Otherworld.
Ryomen Sukuna: But this side—the side that gazes at the skies—is free to converse with you.
Medusa: Well, that's convenient. You're like Baal and Hannibal.
Nezha: No... I would consider them completely different.
Ryomen Sukuna: It appears that you are also primal beasts. I have not spoken with my kind for many hundreds of years.
Medusa: I don't know how long "many hundreds of years" is supposed to be, but...
Medusa: I guess it's a long time to be staring at a gate alone, huh?
Ryomen Sukuna: I was created to guard against the Otherworld... It is a matter of great shame to me that I was consumed by its power.
Ryomen Sukuna: Now... it seems there is something you desire to ask me.
Nezha: Yes. What is the Otherworld?
Ryomen Sukuna: Hm... You would have an answer that is precise, scientific. I cannot give it to you.
Ryomen Sukuna: The Otherworld is the other world. Where it and the skies are allowed to mingle, ruin will follow.
Ryomen Sukuna: I keep watch over not only the gate, but causality itself.
    Nezha: I see...
Medusa: So... what's with this place? Why's there a gate here anyways?
Ryomen Sukuna: The gate that I keep is a scar, left on the skies when the world was newly born.
Ryomen Sukuna: Even the great Astrals—and countless primal beasts given life by their craft—could not fully mend this wound.
Medusa: What? I knew this place was trouble, but not that much trouble.
Ryomen Sukuna: However, they were able to place a seal over what they could not mend. And they appointed me to be its keeper.
Nezha: Fascinating... So, to split hairs here, you're the guardian of the seal and not the gate to the Otherworld.
Ryomen Sukuna: Correct. And that is why I do not have complete mastery over the gate.
Ryomen Sukuna: But the Astrals applied themselves to the study of portals between different worlds and dimensions.
Ryomen Sukuna: They were able to apply this knowledge when shaping my powers, flawed though they may be.
Medusa: That's why you can build bridges and stuff, right?
Ryomen Sukuna: I have said this before, but my influence extends only over a small domain.
    Even now—
Giyu Tomioka: Is the vortex shrinking?
Ryomen Sukuna: I am constricting it. To suppress the Otherworld energy seeping into this world.
Lyria: I-is it okay to do that? (Captain) and the others will still be able to make it back, right?
Ryomen Sukuna: The gate can be reopened. They will return—if they can survive the peril that besets them.
Inosuke Hashibira: Hey, what's that supposed to mean? You looking down on Monjiro?
Ryomen Sukuna: I meant no affront to him.
Nezha: I understand now. At this moment, on the other side of that gate, countless Otherworlders are amassing.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Eep! What the! That's bad, right!
Medusa: Of course it's bad, genius...
Medusa: Ugh! If I'd known waiting was gonna be this stressful, I'd have just gone with them!
Nezha: (Captain) and the others need to force a way through the throng. As soon as they do, Ryomen Sukuna will widen the vortex.
Nezha: They'll rush it and be back in the skies—along with a few unwelcome guests.
Inosuke Hashibira: I'll take all of them down!
Nezha: But the question remains: how do we know when to throw open the gate?
Kyojuro Rengoku: Lyria, it seems you share a special bond with (Captain).
Lyria: I do. We're connected by our life link...
Kyojuro Rengoku: I do not know what a "life link" is, but...
Kyojuro Rengoku: Will you be able to sense when (Captain) is near?
Lyria: Yes! Of course! No matter what, I'll know!
Tanjiro Kamado: Water Breathing Eighth Form! Waterfall Basin!
    Nezuko Kamado: ...!
Vyrn: Ahh! Whack one down, and two more pop up like daisies!
    Shinobu Kocho: Hah!
Shinobu Kocho: But we're so close to the gate!
Vyrn: Well, we aren't gettin' through it at this rate! We gotta do something!
At that moment, (Captain), who has been fending off Otherworlders with one hand and carrying Elly with the other, pauses. The captain's head swivels towards the gate.
Shinobu Kocho: (Captain)? What is it?
Vyrn: Oy! Eyes on the enemy!
    1. It's Lyria.

    Choose: It's Lyria.
Vyrn: Huh? What's that 'bout Lyria?
    Lyria: Ryomen Sukuna! Rengoku! Now!
Ryomen Sukuna: I shall open the gate!
    Kyojuro Rengoku: I am ready!
Kyojuro Rengoku: Flame Breathing Fifth Form! Flame Tiger!
    Vyrn: No way!
Tanjiro Kamado: He finished them with one attack!
Shinobu Kocho: Now, here's our chance to escape!
Tanjiro Kamado: Oh, right! Nezuko, get in the box!
    Nezuko Kamado: ...!
Vyrn: All right! It's go time!
    Lyria: Gasp! Vyrn! (Captain)!
    Zenitsu Agatsuma: Tanjiro! Nezukooo!
Vyrn: Phew... Man... We made it!
Shinobu Kocho: It's all because Rengoku carved a path for us. Thank you.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Thank Lyria. She told me when to strike!
Medusa: Everyone's okay, right? Then, um... Shouldn't we be closing the gate!
    Ryomen Sukuna: Guh...
Inosuke Hashibira: Oy! The sticky's spreading!
Ryomen Sukuna: I have lost control of the gate!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: What? Hold on... I know that's bad, but exactly how bad?
Nezha: For a start, we'll no longer be able to stop Otherworlders from trespassing.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Yeah! I can kind of see that!
    Nezha: In addition...
Giyu Tomioka: It becomes impossible to return to our world, right?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Aaahhh! I knew it!
Shinobu Kocho: Oh dear. Couldn't you have chosen your words more carefully? Zenitsu's scared to death now, poor thing.
    Giyu Tomioka: ...
Shinobu Kocho: But I suppose there's no running from the truth.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Then we will stand our ground as long as it takes.
Medusa: Okay, fine, let's do this. Just make sure you don't get in my way!

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Finale

Ryomen Sukuna manages to cut off the link to the Otherworld and forge a new one to Tanjiro's world. After hurried goodbyes, the crew and the Demon Slayers part ways. Ryomen Sukuna then reseals the gate, and the red clears from the skies to reveal a quiet, shimmering blue.

Tanjiro Kamado: The scent of the Otherworld... It's fading!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: That means we're good, right? We're safe, right!
Ryomen Sukuna: I have found it. There is yet a thread of causality leading back to your world.
Inosuke Hashibira: I don't know why you keep talking about tea, but I guess that means we can go home?
Ryomen Sukuna: Yes. I shall connect the gate to your world. But we must hurry. There are precious few minutes left to us...
Ryomen Sukuna: For when you are gone, I myself must become the seal.
Tanjiro Kamado: You yourself? You mean you're going to turn into the seal?
Ryomen Sukuna: Yes. My body contains power that can keep the Otherworld in check. Here, at last, is a chance to show its worth.
Medusa: Wait. We can't just fix up the shrines?
Ryomen Sukuna: Perhaps. But the world now stands on the brink of doom. I must guide it back by the safest road.
Ryomen Sukuna: We have not the time to take chances.
    Medusa: Okay. I understand.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Um, I'm still confused... What's going to happen after you block the gate? To you, I mean... to Ryomen Sukuna.
Ryomen Sukuna: The core that now manifests my will and form shall shift its purpose. It shall become the source of the new seal.
Shinobu Kocho: So... your body and mind will disappear?
Ryomen Sukuna: No, not disappear. They will be reshaped, reborn. In that seal, I shall live on.
Shinobu Kocho: Primals truly are greater than anything I ever thought possible...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: I get that there's no other choice... And it's not like I can do anything to help you or stop you... But...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: But it feels like you're sacrificing yourself for us...
Ryomen Sukuna: Kind child from a distant world... I am no sacrifice. I am a guardian.
Ryomen Sukuna: I was created to protect. It was and is my reason for existing.
Ryomen Sukuna: I am proud of my duty. Please, allow me to see it through to the end.
    Zenitsu Agatsuma: ...
    Kyojuro Rengoku: Yellow boy.
Rengoku claps a hand on Zenitsu's shoulder and takes a firm step forward.
Kyojuro Rengoku: I honor you and your devotion to duty. I would not ask more of you, but it is time my companions and I returned home.
Ryomen Sukuna: I shall see it done.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Ryomen Sukuna, you have my deepest gratitude!
Ryomen Sukuna: When you are ready, I shall forge a link to your world.
Ryomen Sukuna: Know, however, that I cannot wait for too long.
Shinobu Kocho: Then we'd better hurry.
Vyrn: Guess we're rushin' this, huh?
Well, have a safe trip back!
Lyria: Um, um... Take care, everyone!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Waaah! Lyriaaa! Thanks! You guys take care too, okay?
Inosuke Hashibira: But I didn't get to fight anyone strong! You guys won't escape next time!
Medusa: You still have no idea what's going on, do you? That brain of yours is an absolute miracle.
Nezha: I can relate though. I'm a bit disappointed myself.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Yes. We never did spar, but your courage inspired me.
Kyojuro Rengoku: I am glad we met!
Shinobu Kocho: Well, it seems Elly isn't going to wake up soon, so...
    Elly: ...
Shinobu draws out the honeysuckle and slips its stem into Elly's hair.
Shinobu Kocho: I wish you all the best.
Shinobu Kocho: Now, Tomioka. Don't you have anything to say?
Giyu Tomioka: You have my thanks.
Lyria: Hehe. And you have ours, Tomioka!
Tanjiro Kamado: (Captain), Vyrn, Lyria... Thank you all so much!
    Vyrn: See ya, Tanjiro!
Lyria: Tell Nezuko I'll miss her!
Tanjiro Kamado: I will! Goodbye, everyone!
One by one, Tanjiro and the other Demon Slayers disappear into the gate.
    Vyrn: And they're gone...
Medusa: We good? Were they able to get back okay?
    Ryomen Sukuna: All is well.
    Lyria: Sigh... Thank goodness.
Ryomen Sukuna: I am indebted to you. Girl in Blue.
Lyria: No! You've done so much for us!
Ryomen Sukuna: It is past time I sealed the gate. Stand back.
Nezha: Our meeting must've also happened for a reason. I'll come to check on the seal from time to time.
Ryomen Sukuna: It heartens me to know I shall be looked after by my own kind. Thank you.
    Nezha: Don't mention it.
Ryomen Sukuna: And now, my friends... farewell.
Medusa: So... it's all over, huh?
Vyrn: Oh man... Things always go honkin' wild when the Otherworld's involved.
Medusa: Yeah. I seriously need a vacation. Let's get back to the Grandcypher.
Medusa: Hey, Nezha, come hitch a ride with us.
Vyrn: Oh, Snake Girl... Would it kill you to ask permission for things? It's not your ship!
Medusa: Excuse me? What's yours is mine!
    Vyrn: In your dreams!
Nezha: Would you rather I not come to the ship?
Lyria: No! Not at all! We'd love for you to come!
Medusa: Anyways, there's something we have to take care of first.
    Elly: ...
Medusa: Let's get Elly back to the village. Lyle's waiting for her.
Vyrn: He's gonna be so happy to see her...
Vyrn: But it'll probably break his heart a little when he finds out Tanjiro and the others are gone...
Lyria: Yeah, I'm sure it will...
Vyrn: They were oddballs all right, but their hearts were gold.
Lyria: Agreed! I hope that, someday, they'll all reach their dreams.
Vyrn: Yep! But we ain't lettin' 'em outshine us! C'mon! We got a whole sky to sail!
With the red gone, the sky is now a pale, flawless blue.
It is so wide and quiet and beautiful that it makes the crew feel small and touches their hearts with loneliness. But in its shimmering depths, new friends and adventures await.
    The End

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Day 1

    Zenitsu Agatsuma: Whew... Nngh... Eeek...
Tanjiro Kamado: What's the matter, Zenitsu? You look like you're having trouble walking... Are you hurt somewhere?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: No, but who knows when the ground's gonna drop under our feet? That's why I'm being extra careful to step lightly...
Tanjiro Kamado: Oh yeah, I almost forgot we're on a floating island.
Tanjiro Kamado: I haven't actually taken a look yet, so I guess it hasn't really struck me.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: It was absolutely terrifying. Clouds were floating everywhere, and I couldn't even see the bottom...
    Zenitsu Agatsuma: Eeep!
Inosuke Hashibira: Hah! Stop crying, you big baby! What's so scary about some land floatin' in the sky?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Ahh, it's no use! People who don't get it just don't get it!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: How can something so heavy be hovering in thin air? It doesn't make any sense!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: For all we know, we could plunge to our deaths at any minute!
Tanjiro Kamado: But you were fine just a few minutes ago, Zenitsu. Weren't you walking normally for a while?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: That's because... I'd forgotten we were floating! Then I remembered again, and now I can't stop thinking about it! Don't you guys ever have those times?
    Inosuke Hashibira: Nope! Comin' through!
    Zenitsu Agatsuma: Aaah!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Stop running! And don't stomp like that! If we fall, it's gonna be your fault, Inosuke!

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Day 2

Kyojuro Rengoku: It is hard to believe we've come to an entirely different world!
Giyu Tomioka: And a world without demons.
    Shinobu Kocho: Yes...
Shinobu Kocho: Apart from that creature from the Otherworld, it seems they have what they call monsters in this world.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Yes. Kamado tells me he has encountered a few of them.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Wild dogs, birds—all with a slightly different appearance than what we know them to have.
Giyu Tomioka: He mentioned how large they are as well.
Giyu Tomioka: Birds bigger than people, and flowers as tall as trees...
Shinobu Kocho: Oh dear. People without proper training in battle wouldn't stand a chance against those.
Giyu Tomioka: It isn't only demons that prove a threat to people...
Kyojuro Rengoku: And that would stand true in our world as well.
Giyu Tomioka: People are not strong creatures.
Shinobu Kocho: No... That's why we need to compensate for what we lack with effort and hard work.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Indeed, and do what we can do—support one another!
Kyojuro Rengoku: Now, let's work together to find a way back to our own world!

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Day 3

Vyrn: Hey, Tanjiro! Tomioka! I was thinkin', the moves you guys use look kinda similar, don't they?
Tanjiro Kamado: Yeah! Both Tomioka and I use something called Water Breathing that we learned from the same master.
    Tanjiro Kamado: Right, Tomioka?
    Giyu Tomioka: Yeah.
Vyrn: What kind of person is this master? From what you guys are sayin', he must be crazy strong.
Tanjiro Kamado: He is! I was no match for him when we trained together. He'd always be one step ahead of me.
Tanjiro Kamado: His name's Urokodaki, and he wears a tengu mask.
    Vyrn: Ten-gu?
Tanjiro Kamado: Yep. A tengu generally has a red face, and a long nose...
    Vyrn: Th-that sounds kinda scary...
Giyu Tomioka: It looks a little like Vyrn.
Vyrn: Whaaa! Are you sayin' I'm scary-looking?
Giyu Tomioka: No, not scary. Just the red part.
Tanjiro Kamado: Ahaha! Well, I'm not sure if Vyrn looks like a tengu...
Tanjiro Kamado: But in terms of Urokodaki, he's strong, yet very kind.
Tanjiro Kamado: He always looks out for Nezuko and me.
Tanjiro Kamado: I'm really thankful for him...
Tanjiro Kamado: And for you too, Tomioka. I can't express just how much I owe the two of you.
    Giyu Tomioka: ...

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Day 4

Kyojuro Rengoku: Nezha, your superior skills as a fighter have caught my attention.
Kyojuro Rengoku: I do not know what being a primal beast entails...
Kyojuro Rengoku: But surely, this must be the result of a profuse amount of harsh training and experience on the battlefield.
Nezha: It's a little difficult to explain, but I was originally created to be a warrior.
Nezha: Rather than training and experience, I was born with a disposition toward combat and battle.
Nezha: In terms of the battlefield, it is thanks to the fierce wars up until now that I was able to have a place to display my power.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Hm... Though intriguing, the existence of a primal beast proves difficult for me to understand.
Kyojuro Rengoku: I was interested because I sensed the power of flame from your moves.
Nezha: You must mean Accendo. It's true that I also control fire, but my intrinsic element would be wind.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Oho! Is that so?
Kyojuro Rengoku: There's someone I fight alongside who also uses Wind Breathing.
Nezha: In the Demon Slayer Corps?
Kyojuro Rengoku: Yes, the Wind Hashira.
Kyojuro Rengoku: I see... I thought the intensity I felt from you was that of flame...
Kyojuro Rengoku: But I can also see a resemblance between you and the person I know who uses Wind Breathing.
    Nezha: Is he strong?
Kyojuro Rengoku: He is incredibly strong!
Nezha: I'd very much like to meet him—
    Inosuke Hashibira: Yo! You two!
Inosuke Hashibira: What's this about gettin' some strong people together?
Inosuke Hashibira: I want in! Fight me!
Kyojuro Rengoku: I see you're as energetic as ever, Inogashira! That is excellent!
Kyojuro Rengoku: Although, you may need a little more awareness in regards to the limits of your own power!

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Day 5

    Nezuko Kamado: ...
    Giyu Tomioka: ...
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
    Giyu Tomioka: ...
Medusa: What exactly is going on there?
Lyria: I-I'm not sure... Are they having a staring contest?
    Medusa: Definitely not.
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Lyria: Oh, look! Nezuko took a step forward!
    Giyu Tomioka: ...
Medusa: And Tomioka took a step back.
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
    Zenitsu Agatsuma: Nezukooo!
Zenitsu Agatsuma: What's the matter, Nezuko? Wanna warm up by the fire with me? Or how about a nice walk around the area?
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: U-um... Was there something you wanted from Nezuko, Tomioka?
    Giyu Tomioka: Not in particular.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Really! In that case, we'll be on our way!
    Giyu Tomioka: ...
Medusa: What the heck was that?
Lyria: Zenitsu sure loves Nezuko a lot!
Medusa: I don't care about that. I was talking about Nezuko.
Medusa: Was she... trying to pat Tomioka on the head?
Lyria: Oh, now that you mention it, she might have been.
Medusa: Sigh... What a strange girl.

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Day 6

    Medusa: So tell me, Nezha...
Medusa: Why were you looking into the Otherworld anyway?
Nezha: Well, I've always had an interest in it, though not enough to make me take the initiative to find out.
Nezha: The Otherworld, and the sky realm... Though there may be times when the two intersect, by coincidence or by accident...
Nezha: They are two separate worlds. The distance between has never changed, not since the day I was born.
Medusa: And you're saying it's changed now?
Nezha: You're aware of Pandemonium, are you not?
Medusa: The thing that's said to connect to the bottom of the skies, right?
Nezha: Yes, but it's vanished without a trace.
    Medusa: Right...
Medusa: It seems (Captain) and the others were there at the time, but they're not sure what exactly happened either.
Medusa: Do you know anything about it?
    Nezha: No, nothing at all.
Nezha: But one thing is for sure: something is changing, and it's big.
Nezha: The collapse of Pandemonium, and the influence this imbalance has on the skies...
Nezha: The various connections between the Astrals, primal beasts, and the Otherworld...
Nezha: That's what I'm interested in.
Medusa: Is that related to what you're searching for?
Nezha: Who knows? I'm not sure yet—and that's why I want to find out.
    Medusa: Hm...
Medusa: Well, I don't really get it, but I wouldn't mind tagging along when I feel like it again.
Medusa: You know, might as well while I'm looking for a way to wake my sisters.
Nezha: Thanks, Medusa. You're a real primal pal.
Medusa: Oh, please! Don't go pulling a Satyr like that.

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Day 7

    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Tanjiro Kamado: Nezuko? Is this flower for me? Thanks!
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Tanjiro Kamado: You're going on a walk with Zenitsu? Be careful out there!
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Kyojuro Rengoku: You certainly treasure your sister very much, Kamado.
Tanjiro Kamado: Yes! Nezuko is my one and only family.
Tanjiro Kamado: She might look like a child right now from having turned into a demon...
Tanjiro Kamado: But she was the oldest sister in our family, and she would always look after our younger brothers and sisters.
Kyojuro Rengoku: I see. It's clear to me that she loves you very much as well. The two of you share a wonderful bond.
Kyojuro Rengoku: I, too, have a younger brother. His name is Senjuro.
Tanjiro Kamado: Really! A younger brother? What is he like?
Kyojuro Rengoku: He is a kind and steady boy. Since I'm often away from home, he takes care of the house in my stead and makes sure it's safe.
Kyojuro Rengoku: People say we look exactly the same!
Tanjiro Kamado: Exactly the same, huh...
Tanjiro Kamado: I hope I can meet him someday.
Kyojuro Rengoku: When we have the chance, you are welcome to come to my house! I'm sure Senjuro would be happy to meet you!
Tanjiro Kamado: I'd like that very much! I'm looking forward to it!

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Day 8

Shinobu Kocho: Medusa, will you tell me more about your sisters?
Medusa: Hehe! I'm glad you asked.
Medusa: My oldest sister's name is Stheno.
Medusa: She's really smart, super nice, and gorgeous from head to toe! A little scary when she's mad though...
Medusa: My second older sister's Euryale.
Medusa: She's really dependable and is usually calm and collected, but when she smiles, she is just so cute!
Medusa: Both of them are incredibly strong. They used to call us the Gorgon sisters—the strongest primal beast siblings anyone's ever seen.
Shinobu Kocho: What do you mean "used to"?
Medusa: I meant back during the War. We're still the strongest, of course!
Medusa: But my sisters are in a deep sleep right now, so...
Shinobu Kocho: Something called a dormant season, if I remember correctly. I suppose you haven't been able to talk to them for a long time now, have you?
Medusa: No. One time, things got a bit wacky and I was able to talk with something like a memory of them...
Medusa: But other than that... in mortal terms, it'd probably be about ten lifetimes since we last met.
Shinobu Kocho: Ten! That must mean you haven't seen them in centuries...
Medusa: Yeah. It does get kind of lonely, but I'm a primal beast. I can wait for as long as it takes.
Medusa: What about your older sister? What's she like?
Shinobu Kocho: My older sister... Her name is Kanae. She might have been a little too easygoing sometimes...
Shinobu Kocho: But she was strong, kind, and had a charming smile. She was a beautiful person, inside and out.

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Day 9

    Inosuke Hashibira: ...
Vyrn: Hey, (Captain)... Is it just me, or has Boarface been starin' at me for a while now?
Glancing over, (Captain) chuckles and nods.
Vyrn: Ick... He's usually yelling and runnin' around, so it's kinda creepy when he's just staring quietly like that.
Vyrn: Was it somethin' I did?
    Inosuke Hashibira: Hey, you!
    Vyrn: Eek!
Inosuke Hashibira: I'm talkin' to you, Geckosuke!
Vyrn: Stop callin' me Geckosuke! How many times do I hafta tell ya? The name's Vyrn!
Inosuke Hashibira: Shut up, who cares! The real question here is... how do you taste?
    Vyrn: Taste? Whaddya mean?
Vyrn: Wait, you don't mean taste as in flavor, right? 'Cause I'm not food!
Inosuke Hashibira: Okay, then how 'bout we duke it out? If I win, I get to eat you.
Vyrn: Wha? Stop saying stupid things, no way!
Inosuke Hashibira: Hey, wait right there!
Vyrn: Cut it out! What the heck's wrong with you?
    Vyrn: Stooop!
    Inosuke Hashibira: Argh!
    Vyrn: Huh?
Vyrn: Wait a second... Your head's fake?
Inosuke Hashibira: Yeah, so what! 'Course it is!
Vyrn: Uh, how was I supposed to know...
Inosuke Hashibira: Gimme back my head! Then let me eat you!
Vyrn: I'm tellin' you, I'm not food!
    Vyrn: Aaah!

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Day 10

Lyria: Hehe, I've never had a tea party at night before. This is kind of exciting!
    Nezuko Kamado: ...?
Medusa: Well, I guess Nezuko can only ever do things at night.
Medusa: And whether it's night or not, it doesn't seem like she can drink any tea.
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Lyria: I wonder if Nezuko ever gets hungry or thirsty?
Medusa: Who knows... Tanjiro said something about Nezuko sleeping a lot to make up for it.
Medusa: Is that how demons usually work, Shinobu?
Shinobu Kocho: I don't know about that...
Shinobu Kocho: Nezuko is a very special case, so I'm not sure of the details myself.
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
    Shinobu Kocho: What is it?
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
    Shinobu Kocho: ...
Medusa: Kinda quiet for a party, don't you think?
Medusa: If we wanna get to know each other better, we should just talk!
Medusa: Gobble... Mm, these cookies are pretty good.
Lyria: You think so? Io and Rosetta recommended them!
Lyria: Although I feel bad that you can't have any, Nezuko...
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Lyria: Would you like one too, Shinobu? Things taste the best when you eat them together with everyone!
    Nezuko Kamado: ...
Shinobu Kocho: Thank you. I'll have one then.
Shinobu Kocho: Munch... Oh my, this is delicious.
Lyria: Yay, I'm glad you like it!
Shinobu Kocho: If only the girls back home could try some of these too...

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Day 11

Lyria: Um, (Captain)! Yesterday, Katalina and Vyrn...
Vyrn: Hey! Lyria! I told ya to keep that a secret!
    Lyria: But Katalina...
Tanjiro Kamado: The three of them get along really well, don't they?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Yeah. There's something about them though...
Tanjiro Kamado: You think so too, Zenitsu?
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Yeah... Wait, you too, Tanjiro?
Tanjiro Kamado: I was wondering when we first met them...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Me too. I mean, Vyrn's easy enough to pick out, but (Captain) and Lyria feel somewhat different too.
Tanjiro Kamado: They definitely smell different from normal people.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: They sound different too. At first, I couldn't put my finger on it and that kinda creeped me out...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: But after spending more time with them, I'm starting to feel it doesn't really matter anymore.
Tanjiro Kamado: Yeah. I don't know what sort of things they've been through, but I really like (Captain) and Lyria.
Tanjiro Kamado: Vyrn too, of course.
Tanjiro Kamado: They're so kind, yet I sense a kind of loneliness from them...
Tanjiro Kamado: But I guess that's just a sign of how strong they are on the inside.
Zenitsu Agatsuma: I know what you mean. I feel like I can relax when I'm with them.
Tanjiro Kamado: I'm glad we were able to meet (Captain) and everyone here.

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Day 12

Nezha: Are (Captain) and the others going to be okay?
Lyria: You mean, with the request to look into the strange disappearances? In the end, it...
Vyrn: It's gotta have somethin' to do with the Otherworld gate. Whaddya think, Nezha?
    Nezha: Yes, most likely.
Nezha: Ever since Ryomen Sukuna fell back into a dormant state from the influence of the Otherworldly power...
Nezha: The space and time in this entire area have been unstable, even when the shrines aren't open.
Nezha: The strange disappearances were people who accidentally fell into the opening, weren't they?
Lyria: Does that mean the people missing will...
Nezha: It'll be impossible to find them.
Vyrn: I guess there's no way of findin' out where they've gone, huh?
Vyrn: They could've been transported to the Otherworld, or even to another universe like the one Tanjiro and the others are from...
    Lyria: Right...
Nezha: Don't look so sad, Lyria. There was nothing anyone could do about it.
Lyria: Okay... In any case, we should report back to Siero.
Lyria: Since Ryomen Sukuna sealed the gate for us, things should be okay now, right?
Nezha: Yes. There shouldn't be any more people disappearing after this.
Vyrn: Then maybe it's good that we came here to this island after all. We helped 'em out a bit, didn't we?
Nezha: Of course. Who knows what would've happened to Ryomen Sukuna if Lyria hadn't been here?
Lyria: I'm glad we were able to be of help, even if only just a little.

Scent of Fate at Sky's End - Day 13

    Kyojuro Rengoku: ...?
Shinobu Kocho: Rengoku? Is something wrong?
Kyojuro Rengoku: Hm? Ah, it's you, Kocho...
Shinobu Kocho: Yes, it's me, Kocho. What's the matter? It's unusual to see you spacing out like that.
Shinobu Kocho: I could see Tomioka doing it, but...
Giyu Tomioka: I do not space out—
Shinobu Kocho: Don't you? Please, you don't have to hide it. You were spacing out just now, weren't you?
    Giyu Tomioka: ...
Kyojuro Rengoku: No, it wasn't just Tomioka. I was lost in thought myself.
Shinobu Kocho: Oh dear, that is unusual.
Shinobu Kocho: But I have to admit... I do feel a little bleary myself, almost like I woke up from a very short dream.
Kyojuro Rengoku: Yes, I feel the same. I doubt I was dozing off while on my feet though.
Shinobu Kocho: Hehe. It would be terrible if three of the Hashira were busy daydreaming at the same time.
Shinobu Kocho: It'd have to be the work of a powerful blood demon art or something of the like.
Giyu Tomioka: It's daytime right now.
Shinobu Kocho: Yes, I'm aware of that. Haven't you ever heard of something called a figure of speech?
    Giyu Tomioka: I have.
    Shinobu Kocho: Have you really?
Shinobu Kocho: Well, all jokes aside, our bodies seem to be in perfect health, so it must simply be a strange figment of our imagination.
Kyojuro Rengoku: You must be right. Let's continue moving and make our way down this mountain.
Kyojuro Rengoku: We have plans to eat together after this, don't we, Tomioka?
    Tanjiro Kamado: Huh?
    Tanjiro Kamado: What was I...
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Hey, Tanjiro! What're you doing back there?
Inosuke Hashibira: Hurry up or we'll leave you behind, slowpoke!
    Tanjiro Kamado: Zenitsu... Inosuke...
At the sound of a soft, scratching noise, Tanjiro turns his head to look at the wooden box on his back.
    Tanjiro Kamado: And Nezuko's here...
Tanjiro Kamado: (But just now, I feel like there was... someone else...)
Zenitsu Agatsuma: Tanjiro? Are you okay?
    Tanjiro Kamado: Yeah, I'm fine!
Tanjiro Kamado: (I'm probably just imagining things...)
Inosuke Hashibira: Get a move on!
    Tanjiro Kamado: Sorry! I'm coming!
Tanjiro breaks into a run, his shadow stretching down the long path between the rice fields as the sun slowly sinks beyond the horizon.
