Hm? Still sleepy? Come on, it's New Year's Day. Can't have you half dead on the first day of the year.
All right, come with me. We're gonna wake you right up with some morning training.
Drang's snoring away and I need a replacement for him.
What? No, why should I bother to wake him up.
Humph... Let sleeping dogs lie.
It's sink or swim in our line of work. You can spend all your time writing New Year resolutions, or you can be out there actually doing them.

2

Humph, about time you woke up. Time to start the new year. Hurry up and get ready.
I finished my morning training and you still weren't up. How long are you going to keep me waiting?
What? Y-yeah, I've been waiting for you, so what...
Q-quit it! Wipe that smirk off your face! I've got a sword and I'm not afraid to use it!

3

Oh, (Captain). I'm just finishing off my training for today.
The sun should be coming up soon. Skies know I've been waiting long enough.
Drang said he wanted to watch it with me. But—surprise, surprise—he's still asleep.
Humph. Not my job to wake him up.
Ah, the sky's brightening up. It's almost time. Glad I'm able to see this with you, at least.

4

(Captain), happy New Year.
You're up early.
Beginning the new year on an early note shows dedication to be better.
Sigh... If only Drang would follow suit. But he's a lost cause...
Since you're here, how about you help me train, (Captain).
Maybe this bout will show us what's in store for the year.

5

Happy New Year. So you've gotten used to waking up early for New Year's.
Drang got up early for once too, but he was being so loud that I made him go back to bed.
So it's just going to be you and me for the New Year's shrine visit that we planned. Any objections?
All right, then why don't we spar for a bit before we set out?
I hear the clashing sound of metal wards off evil. It'll be good luck for the new year.

Here... Well, what're you waiting for? Take it.
Just shut up and take it. Don't make me stab you.
I-I just felt like giving you something, okay! It doesn't mean anything special!
B-but if you happen to try them... Just let me know if you like them... Okay?

2

Tsk... Who in the world started all this Valentine's Day nonsense anyway...
Hey. Got a second? Best we talk somewhere more discreet.
H-here... This is for you. Just like I said last year, this doesn't mean anything special...
Wh-what's with the face! I gave chocolates last year, didn't I?
It's for Valentine's Day, okay! Don't make me say it!

3

Here, take it.
Wh-what? It's not like this is anything new.
You knew I was going to give this to you anyway.
Whatever! I did what I came for! I'm going now!

4

Oh, it's just you, (Captain).
...
What's with the face? Stop that!
Why are you looking at me all expectant?
Okay, okay! Take your chocolate and go!

5

It's Valentine's Day. Take it.
What's with that dissatisfied expression? I made sure to prepare something again this year.
What? No, I didn't make it. I just bought it. So what—
Fine, fine! Stop it with the teary eyes!
A-anyway, just take it! I'll... try making some next year...
I grew up with younger siblings, so I always end up going soft on people when they make that kind of face...
Just hang in there until next year. No more making that face, got it?

What? This... is for me?
White Day? I-I see... Well, I might as well accept.
Ah, er... I-I should say thanks, I guess.
S-stop laughing! This doesn't happen to me often, okay... Well, I don't mind the gift, so thanks.

2

What? If you've got something to say, then say it.
Oh, y-you're right. It's White Day, isn't it.
Th-thanks for the gift... I appreciate it.
(Captain), I never forgot what you told me last year about saying thanks for these things.

3

(Captain)... This is...
Oh, it... It's White Day today... I get it.
Every single year... You never give up, do you?
Th-thanks... I appreciate it.

4

(Captain)? What?
Y-you have something for me?
What? You actually don't?
Well... I wasn't expecting anything anyway!
I'm leaving! You hear me!
W-what! Don't try and stop me! I said I'm leaving...
Sigh... Is this a White Day present...
Why'd you get me all riled up! If you got something for me, say that from the start!

5

...
Th-thanks... for the present.
...
Sigh... This is about the only response I can make every single year...
Well... Obviously I'm happy. I'm just not used to this kind of thing.
You're going to make me a cup of tea? Thanks. Meanwhile, I'll try to calm down.
By the way, if you happen to see Drang, get him over here. I'm sure I'll calm down once I give him a jab.

Trick or Treat Cutscenes

You want candy or you'll play a trick on me? You should pull that on Drang.
That dummy's pockets are so filled with candy that it's all spilling out. I don't know what he's doing...

2

I'm warning you right now: I don't have candy, and I'm not interested in anyone's ideas of trickery.
If you want candy, ask Drang. He'll probably give you some.
And if you must insist on playing tricks... I suggest you prepare yourself for the repercussions.

3

Trick or treat?
Sigh... You never learn, do you?
Fine. Here's some candy.
N-no, I didn't have it ready! I just happened to have some on me!
Drang forced them on me, saying it was because it's Halloween.

4

Hey, (Captain). Trick or treat.
What's with that face? It's not like I'm possessed by the holiday spirit or anything.
I just wanted to beat you to the punch and take the wind out of your pranking sails.
You don't have any candy? It's not like I wanted it...
Nope, I'm not gonna prank you, either! Do you actually want me to?
Fine. You asked for it. Get ready for a good stabbing.

5

Sturm is nowhere to be seen.
The streets are filled with Halloween festivities as (Captain) walks through them in search of Sturm.
Someone suddenly comes up behind (Captain) and holds the captain in place.
Sturm: Don't move. Open your mouth.
Sturm pushes something into (Captain)'s mouth.
Sturm: Don't worry, it's just a cookie. Have you eaten it? Good.
Hmph... With that, my mission of accomplishing a trick and a treat is complete. I'm done.
What... Do it again, you say?
Stop looking so happy! You're not supposed to be enjoying it! Who do you think you are, Drang?

Happy Holidays Cutscenes

1

Humph. Everyone's all excited and happy about the holidays.
Drang got especially carried away. I'll teach him to know better...
Anyway, here you go. What? What's with the face?
It's a present. It's the holidays after all. I put a lot of thought into it, so you better like it.

2

Hm? What's with all the fidgeting?
A present? What about it? Yeah, I have one for you this year too.
Humph, you seem surprised. Well, I know it might seem out of character, but that's just how I was raised.
My family would always make sure we got the entire family together to celebrate something.
So I can't sit still till I've gotten someone's present ready.

3

... What?
Humph. If you're hoping for something, you're setting yourself up for disappointment.
Wha! Don't make that face! I-I was only joking...
Look! See? Of course I have a present for you.
Sigh... Should have known never to take Drang's advice on humor.

4

Oh, (Captain)... How many times have I spent this night with you?
Rest assured. I have a present for you...
Huh? What is this?
A present for me?
!
Don't get all emotional on me!
But... Thank you...

5

All right, we're going to exchange goods. First, we'll both put our goods onto the table at the count of three.
Three, two, one... Go.
Don't touch any of the goods I put out yet. If you make any kind of suspicious movement, you're dead.
Now, at the count of three again, we'll take each other's goods at the same time.
Three, two, one... Go. Now we inspect the goods. If there are no issues with the goods, then the transaction is complete.
This is how transactions go in risky situations. But it should run smoothly if you go in this sequence—it's how I do it too.
Why am I doing this all of a sudden, you ask?
That's because you fool around with me every single time! Watch it before I jab you!

Beachside Bounty

As Sturm deliberates how to respond to letters from her siblings, Drang pops in with news of a mission in Auguste. However, she quickly learns that this was a thinly-veiled invitation to spend time with her at the beach—which she accepts, to Drang's surprise.

An ensemble of buzzing and chirping can be heard outside under the oppressive heat of a summer afternoon. On a day like this, the beaches of Auguste would be teeming with visitors.
Not one for crowds, Sturm sits alone in her room after a day's work, going through a pile of envelopes on her desk.
Each envelope contains a letter from one of her many younger siblings.
She opens them, one by one, to learn that they all seem to be thriving.
Brother's Letter: The pub I opened is really taking off! It's really all about the quality of the beer—
Sturm: He was always a sweet one, being the youngest... It's not surprising that he'd find success dealing with people.
Sister's Letter: I've actually had my eyes on someone at my job recently. Do you have any sisterly advice for me?
Sturm: You've asked the wrong person. That being said... I should find out who this is.
The letters from her siblings have come from far and wide, with some still living at home, and some who have put down roots somewhere else.
Sturm: Everyone seems to be doing well enough.
Sturm: Still...
Sturm briefly glances at the end of one letter in particular, letting out a sigh.
Brother's Letter: I know you're busy, but you should swing by when you get the chance! I'd love to have a drink with you, Sis!
Sister's Letter: I'm sure even mercenaries need a break sometimes. If you need a place to relax, you're always welcome here.
All of the letters ended in the same way—with a heartfelt invitation for her to visit after being apart for so long.
Sturm: That can't be a coincidence... can it?
Sturm: ...
Sturm: (I used to come home a lot more often... up until around when Mom passed.)
Sturm: (Then at some point... they all grew up. They haven't needed to rely on me for a while now.)
Sturm: It might be nice to see their faces again, but...
Sturm ruminates on how to reply to all of her siblings, overwhelmed by the amount of letters.
Sturm: ...
Sturm: This can't be good.
Sturm abruptly stands up, stuffing the letters into her bag.
Immediately afterward, a familiar face pops in.
Drang: Stuuurm! I've got a new mission for us!
Sturm: Drang. Knock.
Drang: I mean, you always seem to be ready for me every time I pop in, so I just figured... You know?
Sturm: Whatever. Fill me in on the details already.
Drang: I'll explain when we get there, so let's get a move on!
More excited than usual for some reason, Drang rushes Sturm to prepare for another mission.
Drang: We're here!
Drang: Blue waters, blue skies! And a blue Drang!
Sturm: And?
Drang: O-oh, right! I mean, red is a wonderful compliment to blue, so there's obviously a place for you too—
Sturm: That wasn't what I meant!
Drang: Yeowch! I'm in swimwear right now, you know!
Sturm: Why are we at an Auguste beach? And why are we even in swimwear in the first place?
Drang: According to the client, it is most imperative that we blend in with the locals. Our mission's already well on its way.
Drang: The target's here on vacation, but still on guard. We need to get him where he'd be most distracted.
Sturm: Cut the crap.
Drang: Whatever do you mean?
Sturm: There's no need for us to step into the water to approach the target—they'll need to come out eventually.
Drang: Perhaps, but think, um, wouldn't they have their guard down while frolicking in the sea?
Sturm: If this ends in a battle somehow, we'd be much more exposed in swimwear. Even you wouldn't be so stupid to miss something like that.
Drang: Was that a compliment just now?
Sturm: I take it back. You clearly are that stupid.
Drang: Ow, ow, ow! Not the butt, Sturm!
Sturm: I've assessed the situation—it's clear to me now. There is no mission for us here, is there?
Drang: Oops... Guess there's no fooling you, huh?
Drang scratches his cheek as a smile begins to form on his lips.
Drang: Actually, the truth is... I just wanted to go to the beach with you!
Sturm: Huh?
Drang: A vacation! We're overdue for one, wouldn't you say?
Drang: We're always putting our bodies on the line, getting the job done at whatever the cost.
Drang: So I figured it's about time we reward ourselves a little.
Sturm: ...
Drang: But you wouldn't agree to this if you'd known, right?
Sturm: So you brought us here, to the beach, under the false pretense of a mission.
Drang: Sorry if I stepped out of line. But now that we're here, we might as well enjoy it, right?
Sturm: ...
Sister's Letter: I'm sure even mercenaries need a break sometimes. If you need a place to relax, you're always welcome here.
Sturm: I guess that's fine.
Drang: Aw, come on... You know you want to! There's nothing like a dip in the ocean, not to mention all the barbecued meats, and—
Drang: Wait, what?
Sturm: What are you waiting for? Show me around already.
Drang: Wh-whaaa? Somebody pinch me!
Drang: I thought you'd at least have me work for it!
Drang: I can't believe it! A vacation with Sturm! Oh yes, today is truly a most wondrous day!
Tourist 1: Hehe... Look at that guy. It seems like they're having a good time!
Tourist 2: Looks like fun—let's jump in on this too!
Sturm: ...
Drang: Ouch!
Sturm: You're being too loud. People can hear you.
Drang: Stab me all you want, Sturm, because I feel invincible today!
Sturm: Hey!
Tourist 1: Was he... happy getting his butt stabbed?
Tourist 2: They might be a little too hardcore for us...
Sturm: Wha—
Sturm: Those people definitely thought we were doing something weird because of you!
Drang: Heed their thoughts no more, Sturm! For we... are on vacation now!
Sturm: Sigh... Today's going to be a long day.
Sturm lets out another exasperated sigh as she joins her partner in crime at the beach.
Sturm: ...
Her eyes glisten before the brilliant summer sun.

Where the Flowers Bloom

While spending time off at the beach together, Sturm and Drang find a worried-looking girl alone. They learn that she is searching for her missing brother, and offer to help her.

Sturm has joined Drang for a day of fun in the sun at Auguste.
She let him decide their itinerary for the day. However...
Drang: Oh, Stuuurm! Over here!
Sturm: ...
Drang: You've got to try the Blue Auguste! They only make so many per day!
Sturm: Relax. No need to get riled up over a drink.
Drang: But we still need to swim in the ocean and build sandcastles and check out the food stalls!
Drang: And then after that we can play some beach volleyball or perhaps some aquatic sports before the fireworks tonight, and—
Sturm: How old are you again?
Drang: Age is but a state of mind, Sturm! I'm merely being true to myself.
Drang: So let's make this summer one for the books! Whaddaya sa—
Drang: Oh? That girl...
Sturm: Is she looking for something... or someone?
A young girl can be seen walking along the beach, anxiously looking around.
Drang: Maybe she's lost. That's our cue, wouldn't you say?
The two nod in agreement before approaching the girl.
Drang: What's wrong, little girl? Looking for your mommy and daddy?
Young Girl: Oh...
Sturm: Don't worry. We're not... suspicious or bad people. I think.
Drang: If you want someone to trust you, it helps to at least have a little eye contact.
Sturm: Shut it, you.
Young Girl: Hehe. I think... you both seem like good people to me.
The girl relaxes a little and tells the two about her situation.
Drang: Aha, so it wasn't your parents, but your little brother you were looking for.
Young Girl: Yeah... My mom and dad said they'd come back for us when it starts getting dark, so I was playing with him, but...
Drang: Oh no... He must've wandered off while you weren't looking, huh?
Young Girl: I've looked everywhere for him...
Young Girl: What if he's... Ngh...
Sturm: ...
Sturm: Where was the last place you saw him?
Young Girl: Huh?
Sturm: I'll help. You'll cover more ground with more eyes, right?
Drang: Count me in too! I'm actually rather talented at finding people, you know.
Sturm: But what about your plans?
Drang: It's fine!
Young Girl: But... why are you helping me?
Sturm: Sometimes you don't need a reason to help—this one's on us.
Drang: If I didn't know better, I'd say (Captain) and the crew are rubbing off on you.
Sturm: Don't be stupid...
Sturm: A basic description should be enough—the sooner we start searching, the better.
Young Girl: R-right! And thank you!
Sturm and Drang join the girl in her search for her brother.
Their laid-back schedule is now a race against time as they check every nook and cranny of the beach for the missing boy.

Where the Flowers Bloom: Scene 2

Despite their efforts, Sturm and Drang are unable to find the young girl's brother. Sturm suddenly gets an idea and begins making her way toward the relatively empty cliffsides near the beach. There they find the girl's brother, securing a spot for them to watch the evening fireworks together.

Even as the sun begins to set, the beach remains crowded.
Sturm and Drang continue their search, but are unable to find their target.
Young Girl: Why can't we find him? We've looked through the water, the beach, the food stalls...
Young Girl: What if he drowned? Or what if he was kidnapped by bad people?
Drang: Or... perhaps he's playing a game of hide-and-seek, waiting for us to find him!
Drang: Let's try again, shall we? Surely we've missed a spot somewhere.
The girl's expression grows more worried as the search continues to no avail.
Young Girl: Sniff... If only I'd been more careful and held onto his hand...
Young Girl: Oh no... What if I never see him again?
Sturm: ...
Sturm: It'll be all right. We'll find him no matter what.
Drang: ...!
Sturm...
Despite the appearances they put on for the girl, the two are hardened mercenaries all too familiar with adversity.
They are sharply aware that if they still couldn't find him after that search, there is a good chance that the girl's fears may come true.
Drang: (No matter what, huh? But what if...)
Sturm: (You don't have to finish that thought—I know.)
Sturm: (But still, I...)
Young Girl: Do you mean it?
Sturm: Yeah, but you need to be strong, okay?
Sturm ruffles the little girl's hair in an attempt to reassure her.
Sturm: (Sheesh... Those idiots on the crew really have rubbed off on me.)
Drang joins Sturm in her efforts, giving the girl a big smile.
Drang: We'll be sure to find him soon! Any minute...
Drang: But where should we look next? We've already looked around the beach a few times now...
Sturm: ...
Sturm: (Yeah, he's not where he should be.)
Sturm: (Something about this seems familiar...)
Sturm's Siblings: Sturm!
Sturm: I've got an idea.
Sturm begins making her way toward a different area, away from the sandy beaches.
Drang: The cliffside? Not where I'd expect to find too many people...
Young Girl: ...!
The girl suddenly jolts in front of them toward a young boy.
Young Boy: Sis? What are you doing here?
Young Girl: That's my question, you big dummy!
Young Boy: What do you mean? We're gonna watch the fireworks tonight, right?
Young Boy: So I wanted to surprise you and find a place where we can get the best view.
Young Girl: The best view for... fireworks?
Young Boy: Yeah! From here we'll be able to see everything perfectly!
The girl plops onto the ground, simultaneously relieved and overwhelmed.
Young Girl: Oh... So you... That's why you...
Young Girl: I've been looking for you all day... I thought... I thought I'd never see you again...
Girl's Little Brother: Sis? I didn't... I...
As her brother crouches down, she embraces him with all of the might she can muster.
Young Girl: I don't care about any stupid fireworks! All that matters is that we stick together!
Girl's Little Brother: Sis!
Girl's Little Brother: Waaaugh! I'm sorryyy!
Sturm: As long as they stick together, huh?
Drang: All's well that ends well, wouldn't you say?
Sturm: Yeah.
Sturm and Drang watch over the two siblings during their emotional reunion.
The sun, now dipping into the ocean horizon, has enveloped the sky in a tender orange.

Where the Flowers Bloom: Scene 3

When asked by Drang how she knew where to look for the girl's brother, Sturm recalls a similar incident from her childhood. While watching the fireworks with him later in the evening, she takes in the joy of standing next to someone cherished to her, and makes a decision to visit her siblings.

Sturm and Drang have joined the crowd that has gathered to see the fireworks.
Drang: The show's about to start, Sturm! Isn't it exciting?
Sturm: It's too crowded... How am I supposed to get a clear line of sight like this?
Drang: You don't need to worry about seeing everything—it's all about taking in the atmosphere!
Sturm: Is that so?
After finding the young girl's brother, Sturm and Drang brought them to their parents.
Afterward, the girl invited the two of them to join her family in watching the show from the secluded cliffside spot.
Drang: You were the one that told them to enjoy the show without our intrusion, right?
Sturm: After her brother went through the trouble of saving the spot for his family, it's the least I could do.
Drang: Hehe... You're a good person.
Sturm: You would've done the same thing.
Drang smiles, looking up at the evening twilight.
Drang: I've been wondering myself, actually... How'd you know where to find him?
Sturm: It... reminded me of something that happened to me a long time ago.
Sturm: I was playing hide-and-seek with my siblings at a park one day.
Sturm: They'd hide in the playground fixtures, or in the bushes, so I'd always check the usual spots. We played it all the time.
Sturm: But one day, I couldn't find them at all.
Young Sturm: They're not here... Did they pull a fast one on me and go home?
Young Sturm: Well, as long as they didn't go into the woods...
Sturm: Monsters were often sighted in a nearby forest. I didn't like the odds, so I went to make sure.
Sturm: My intuition was right. I found them playing in a meadow by the forest entrance.
Young Sturm: What are you guys doing? You shouldn't even be here!
Sturm: As I ran up to scold them, I noticed they were all holding something.
Sturm: A bouquet made of freshly picked flowers.
Sturm: They noticed I was coming and quickly cobbled it together before handing it to me.
Sturm's Siblings: Happy birthday, Sturm!
Sturm: They were picking flowers as a present for my birthday.
Drang: So it was meant to be a surprise.
Drang: And that's how you came up with the idea.
Sturm nodded silently, turning her attention to the night sky above as well.
Drang: So, Sturm... What happened after they gave you the flowers?
Sturm: They're taking their time with those fireworks, huh?
Drang: If I didn't know better, I'd say you're ignoring me on purpose.
Sturm: Shut it.
Drang: You don't have to answer if you don't want to.
Drang: I'm sure it's a very precious memory to you, given the look on your face right now.
Sturm: I didn't give you permission to look at my face.
Drang: Oopsie. You got it boss.
Sturm: And wipe that smile off your face!
In that moment, their conversation is interrupted by the sound of fireworks.
Drang: Oho! Look at that one!
Sturm: ...
One after the other, a kaleidoscope of colors illuminates the evening sky in splendor.
Drang: Say, don't fireworks and the night sky go together sorta like you and I do?
Sturm: You mean how you're loud and disruptive like fireworks?
Drang: Perhaaaps, but I was just thinking how we're a perfect combination!
Drang: You're free to decide which one of us would be which, of course.
Sturm: ...
Drang: I'm really glad we were able to spend some time off together and just, you know, watch some fireworks.
Sturm: ...
Drang: Sturm? Hello?
Sturm: Did you say something? I couldn't hear you over the fireworks.
Drang: No way! Such a wasted moment...
Perfectly aware of Drang's shoulder slumping over her own, she keeps her eyes on the fireworks show instead.
Sturm: (The flowers I received on that day...)
Sturm's Siblings: Happy birthday, Sturm!
Young Sturm: Thank you, guys... It's lovely.
Young Sturm: But—and I'm just going to say this once, so listen—the greatest present you could ever give me is staying by my side.
Sturm: (Me too, Drang. Just having you by my side here is more than I could ask for...)
Sturm: Thanks... for bringing me here.
Drang: Sorry, did you say something, Sturm?
Sturm: Nothing.
Sturm: Actually, I remembered somewhere I wanted to go. Mind if I extend the vacation for some personal days?
Drang: Of course! Safe travels, milady.
Sturm: Thanks.
Drang doesn't need to ask for details. The two share a bond forged through mutual respect.
The fireworks continue to dazzle and awe the onlookers, as if creating a bouquet for the night sky.
Sturm: ...
Back in her quarters later that night, Sturm has been writing responses to her younger siblings' letters.
Finishing the last one, she stretches her arms once before heading to bed.
Sturm: I hope I can say it right next time I see them...
Sturm: I'm back.
Sturm takes those two words to bed with her, repeating them to herself.
Satisfied with her performance or not, eventually she lets the gentle hold of sleep take her.
