Background

Azusa became a student of a dojo that was lead by Gamshira — Narmaya's father, after she had been saved by Narmaya when she was young. She was obsessed with her master's daughter, and had spent most of her time trying to follow in Narmaya's footsteps. The two of them would have many practice sessions together, even though it had always ended in Azusa's defeat.

This section contains spoilers. Continue reading at your own discretion.

Unfortunately for the young swordswoman, Narmaya had been blinded with an obsession of her own, and had viewed everything in her life as insignificant, except for Zanba — the man whom she had been obsessed with. Realizing that her existence and her countless efforts had been coldly dismissed by her idol, Azusa ultimately left the dojo and was never seen again.

After a certain amount of time had passed, Azusa returned to the dojo when she had found out that her master's daughter had come back to visit her home. With a cursed blade in her hands, she attacked Narmaya and managed to wound her in the midst of their clash, before running away and vowing to settle the matter another day. The price of using such a blade, however, was costly, and she was assaulted with extreme pain in her entire body that could even cause blood to leak from her eyes, mouth, and nose.

A short time after their intense reunion, they met again to settle things once and for all. Narmaya, who had completely forgotten about her fellow student, tried to talk things out with her, but Azusa unleashes a flurry of attacks that pushes Narmaya to the brink. Her memory about Azusa finally came back to her when she remembered how to perform a sword technique that she had used against her friend a long time ago. Azusa's cursed blade was shattered as a result, and the two of them managed to reconcile with each other.

And now, because of the lasting effect of the cursed blade, Azusa travels along with the Main Character's crew to search for a new hobby while recovering. Her vision sometimes gets blurry, but her journey will carry on regardless.

Happy Birthday Cutscenes
# Link Text
1

Happy birthday, (Captain).
By the way, do you know how to play cards? Or mahjong—that's fine too. Or shogi, or go.
I tried a bunch of different games, hoping to find something we could play together on your special day.
I tried about ten different ones...
Oh no... Was that overwhelming?
I see... It's all right, I was getting ahead of myself again.
Huh? You'd be happy just spending time with me?
Y-you sure say some weird things sometimes...
But if that's what you want, then I'll stay. Hehe...

2

Good morning, (Captain). And happy birthday.
You said you would be happy simply spending time with me last year, remember?
So here I am. Bright and early, to maximize our time together.
I have no intention of leaving your side—at least for today.
And of course, I've found several new hobbies I thought we could enjoy throughout the day, including morning, daytime, and nighttime activities.
I'll do everything I can to make this the best birthday ever for you, Captain.

3

It's your birthday today, isn't it, (Captain)? Happy birthday.
I had a lot of fun spending the entire day with you last year.
Would you like to spend your birthday with me again this year? How about camping?
If we go camping, we can be together and celebrate until we go to sleep.
You don't have to worry—I've learned the basics of camping.
From wood-chopping to setting up the tent to building the campfire—you can leave everything to me.
(Captain)?
It's more fun if we do these things together? I see...
Come to think of it, I suppose you're right. Then let's work together to make it a great camping experience for the both of us.
Shall we leave for the camping grounds now? Hehe. I simply can't wait!

Happy New Year Cutscenes

1

Happy New Year, (Captain).
Have you heard of something called a ceremonial arrow?
It's a special decorative arrow for New Year's that wards off misfortune and brings happiness.
I'm thinking of going to the shrine with Teacher Gamshira to receive an arrow.
I'd like to get one so that I can wish for peace for you and our crew.
If you're free, would you like to come with me to find Teacher Gamshira?
Of course, I'll invite Narmaya too. We can all pray for happiness together.
Hehe. I look forward to spending another year with you, (Captain).

2

Hah!
That should do it.
Ah, were you watching, (Captain)? My apologies, I didn't mean to ignore you.
Oh, this? I heard we only had one kadomatsu prepared, so I decided to cobble another one together.
Kadomatsu should be set up in pairs. Fortunately with my bonsai experience, carving out another one was no effort at all.
This should serve us well for another year.
Happy New Year, (Captain). I'll be in your care again.

3

Happy New Year, (Captain).
Have you ever tried your hand at calligraphy on New Year's? You write your aspiration for the coming year on paper with a brush.
Even if you haven't thought of any resolutions yet, you can see the new year as a chance to refresh your mind. Eventually, something will naturally come to you.
As for myself, this year, I would like to try fifty new things.
To be honest I'd wanted to try for one hundred, but Narmaya stopped me, saying I won't be able to enjoy them if I'm too ambitious.
What's that? Fifty's still a lot, you say?
Hm... It seems I can't help but push myself to the extreme in everything I do.
Will you wait for a while? I'd like to think a little longer before picking up the brush.

Valentine's Day Cutscenes
# Link Text
1

Happy Valentine's, (Captain).
I heard that today's a day to give out gifts to those you appreciate.
So I learned how to make chocolates from Laruna and Narmaya, and tried making some myself.
If it's not too much trouble, I'd like you to have these.
Hehe... This is extremely embarrassing.
Speaking of which, I was thinking of making some for Teacher Gamshira too...
But Laruna didn't seem too happy about that idea, so I gave up on it. What was that all about, I wonder...

2

Happy Valentine's Day, (Captain). I've made you another chocolate this year.
The art of creating chocolate is surprisingly deep.
Last year I did it by the numbers, thanks to Laruna and Narmaya's help. But I purchased a book and learned how to make my own this year.
I learned that chocolate is more varied and diverse than one might initially expect—it would be ignorant to think they're all the same.
Not only in regards to taste and appearance, but even the most minute of changes can completely change the finished product.
My initial plan was to find how to make the most delicious chocolate possible to give to you, but...
It seems that the answer is more nuanced than I anticipated.
Perhaps it lies in the heart of battle.
Ah, there I go again. Anyway, please share your honest opinion with me once you've finished.

3

This Valentine's chocolate is for you, (Captain). I hope you like it.
This year, I learned how to make it from a chocolatier that Narmaya told me about.
When we were making the chocolate, the chocolatier started telling me with a terribly menacing look that I should take the time to study abroad.
I refused the idea of studying abroad, but I learned many things from the chocolatier.
Hm? Chocolate-making can be a new hobby?
I actually thought about it too, but...
When I saw how serious and hardworking the chocolatier was, I felt reluctant to walk the same path with such half-baked feelings.
It's a little embarrassing, but this chocolate was the best I could do.
I'd like you to give it a try first, (Captain). Please let me know if there's anything about it that I can improve on.

What's this, (Captain)?
A gift in return for Valentine's? That's so nice of you.
I didn't give you a gift on Valentine's expecting something in return...
Ah, so this is part of the tradition? Then I gladly accept.
But this means I'll have to give you another gift, in return for the gift you're giving me in return... But then you'll give me another gift in return for that...
Oh no, I'm getting all confused.

2

I appreciate you taking the time to remember me this year as well, (Captain).
However, I must apologize. I still haven't given you a truly worthy chocolate yet.
It doesn't matter, you say? I... see. That's actually a relief to hear.
Regardless, I will continue to pursue the path of chocolate.
As a matter of fact, I would like for you to try one I made recently. Think of it as a token of appreciation for your token of appreciation.
I would be grateful if you did. It still feels strange for me to receive something without giving you anything in return.

3

Thank you so much, (Captain). To think you'd prepare something for me again this year...
Somehow, I feel a little embarrassed receiving a gift. I wonder if there's anything I can give you...
Oh yes. When I had the chance to try some leather crafting, I made a small pouch.
It's designed to be convenient during travel. I'd like you to have this.
It may be strange for me to give something back... in return for a gift given to me in return. But it doesn't feel right for me not to.
This leather pouch should be quite durable, so I hope you'll use it a lot.

Trick or Treat Cutscenes
# Link Text
1

Ugh... Augh... (Captain)...
My eyes... They're bleeding... This must be the price for wielding the enchanted blade...
...
Hehe, I'm just playing around. The curse is quite faint now, so I haven't been shedding any tears of—
Are you... angry? It was just a little joke...
I was doing it so I could get a treat. I didn't mean to...
I'm sorry. I won't do that again.
I didn't know you were that worried about me...
It's kind of nice... to have someone care so much about me.

2

Ah, (Captain). Happy Halloween. Will you be heading into town this year as well?
Me? I was, well... thinking of what kind of trick I could play, perhaps...
I may have gone too far last year...
Apparently, Narmaya saw what happened, and then Teacher Gamshara and Laruna even found out about the whole thing...
I've since reflected on my behavior, so don't expect me to make the same mistake this year.
Honestly, coming up with something is harder than I had anticipated.
Oh, right. I have plenty of candy to spare, so please play as many tricks as you please.
It may spark some inspiration for a trick of my own... I'll take all the help I can get right now!

3

(Captain)! There's... a rat on your shoulder!
I shall drive it away!
I'm only joking. This rat is a toy—see? I wanted to try playing a trick on you this year.
What? You were scared because you thought I was going to cut you with a sword?
I-I'm sorry!
I actually spent a long time thinking before coming up with this idea, but it seems it was a bit much...
Please take these Halloween treats as an apology from me!
Of course, I don't expect the treats to solve everything...
If there's anything I can do for you, please don't hesitate to let me know!
You... aren't angry?
Still, I must do something to make it up to you. Please, tell me what I can do!

Happy Holidays Cutscenes
# Link Text
1

Happy holidays, (Captain).
You came at just the right time. I was about to light this up.
Apparently, this holiday candle is called an aroma candle.
It seems a lot of people practice aromatherapy as a hobby. This candle gives off a relaxing fragrance...
Hm... This would be perfect for enhancing meditation.
Oh, wait... I did it again, didn't I? I started thinking about how something could help my training again...
Say, (Captain). Would you like to stay here with me for a while?
Having you here would really help. I shouldn't waste such a nice candle by thinking about how I could use it for training.
You'll stay? Hehe, thanks. Let's enjoy this aroma candle together.

2

Oh. Didn't expect to run into you here, (Captain).
Actually, here. This present is for you.
What was I doing? Choosing what gifts to get everyone else in the crew.
Everyone has their own pursuits and pastimes, so I thought this could've been a pathway into finding a new hobby.
But somehow, each and every one of them led me back to martial arts—I spent so much time shopping too...
You'll help me look? Much obliged. With the two of us, hopefully I won't waste as much time wavering.
And if I could discover a new hobby in the process, that would be the cherry on top.

3

Ah, (Captain). You came at just the right time—could you take a look at this tree?
I was given the task of decorating this tree, so I tried hanging some candies and ribbons on it. How does it look?
I see. So it looks well-balanced to you? I'm glad to hear that.
I tried to maintain its beauty and harmony to the best of my abilities.
The kind of awareness can also be applied to swordsmanship, you see.
When you swing a sword, you have to be aware of every part of the blade, down to its tip. There must be a balance between the left and right sides when you make the swing.
When I think about how festivities like this can also relate to the martial arts, I'm filled with intrigue...
Oops, I'm sorry... I connected it to martial arts again. I should focus on enjoying the celebrations.
There are still a few more trees, (Captain). Would you like to decorate them together?

Would You Like to Go on a Date?

One day, Azusa invites (Captain) out on a date in hopes of preparing for the time she will be spending with Narmaya on Yudhisthira Island. The captain agrees and gifts Azusa with new summer wear. Together, they enjoy some snorkeling and other activities before resting at the beach. Azusa confesses to (Captain) that she invited the captain on the date because she wanted the two of them to grow closer.

One peaceful morning, (Captain) is surprised with a rare invitation from Azusa to breakfast with just the two of them.
In the middle of the meal, Azusa blushes and looks timidly at the captain.
Azusa: (Captain), um, actually...
Azusa: W-would you... go on a...
Azusa: A... date with me?
The sudden question catches (Captain) off guard.
The fork almost falls out of the captain's hand. Azusa peers over nervously.
Azusa: (Captain)? Are you all right?
Azusa is a katana-wielding samurai whose eyes harbor a curse from her enchanted blade.
Though she was a childhood friend of the swordswoman Narmaya, the two also share a peculiar bond.
After a fierce dance of blades in which the two almost took each other's lives, they were able to come to an understanding and reconcile.
Since then, Azusa has joined (Captain)'s crew in hopes of learning more about what lies outside of the world of sword fighting.
Azusa: It's... too tall of an order, isn't it? I-I'm sorry. Please forget I asked...
  1. Not a tall order at all.
  2. Why aren't you asking Narmaya?

Choose: Not a tall order at all.
Azusa: ...!
Really?
Azusa: Is that the truth? I can trust you... right?

Choose: Why aren't you asking Narmaya?
Azusa: Wha...
Azusa: ...
Continue 1
Azusa: Actually... Narmaya and I have made plans to visit the beach.
Azusa: It is a place called Yudhisthira Island. The warm clime makes it suitable for swimming, even in this season.
Azusa: So I was hoping... to get used to being alone with someone...
Azusa: I realize this is a rather imprudent request... but you are the only person I can ask to assist me with this, (Captain).
Hearing Narmaya's name and grasping the situation, the captain regains composure.
However, there is still one question unanswered.
Azusa: I know what it is you want to ask. Narmaya and I are always together.
Azusa: You find it strange that I would be conscious of it now after spending so much time together with her. It is a fair question.
Azusa: The place we will be visiting is a private beach, hence no one else will be around us in the area.
Azusa: It will be the first time for us to be truly alone... since the day of our fight.
Azusa: I feel nervous... so if possible, I would like to do some observation and practice... to prepare for it.
Azusa: Well... That's not the only reason I'm asking, of course...
  1. Okay. Let's go on a date.
  2. What's that?

Choose: Okay. Let's go on a date.
Azusa: Sh-shall we then? Thank you, (Captain), from the bottom of my heart.
Azusa: Hehe.

Choose: What's that?
Azusa: Umm... N-never mind. I was simply mumbling to myself...
Azusa: Just what am I saying... I'm more anxious than I am when I'm fighting for my life.
Azusa: Anyway, forget what I said. Please.
Cheeks red, Azusa looks away. Despite the many unanswered questions, (Captain) agrees to go on a date with the swordswoman.
Azusa: You'll go with me? Wonderful.
Continue 2
Azusa: I'm sorry for the rush, but would you like to head to the beach? I've already made the appropriate preparations for us.
Azusa: Back when I traveled by myself, there were times when I trained in the water and wore these.
Azusa smiles happily, grasping what appears to be a loincloth in her hand.
  1. Why don't we go get swimsuits?

Choose: Why don't we go get swimsuits?
Azusa: I don't think such cute garments would suit me—
Azusa: Wait, (Captain)!
Chuckling, (Captain) takes the swordswoman by the hand and leads her to town.
After buying a swimsuit for Azusa in town, (Captain) goes with her to Yudhisthira Island.
The captain waits for Azusa to finish changing into her new summer outfit.
  1. Azusa?

Choose: Azusa?
Azusa's Voice: I-I'm right here! I suppose you can already sense my presence...
Azusa's Voice: Well, with the loincloth, I'm not entirely unaccustomed to showing skin...
Azusa's Voice: Still... I'm happy you chose this swimsuit for me, but I don't know how I feel about...
(Captain) gently takes Azusa's hand and pulls her out from the shade of the tree.
Azusa: Eep!
Azusa: You surprised me... G-go ahead. Laugh at me if that's what you want.
  1. It suits you. You look cute.
  2. Yes, perfect.

Choose: It suits you. You look cute.
Azusa: I look... wha...
Azusa: You sound just like Narmaya and Laruna. But, well...
Azusa: I know there is no lie to what you say. That's what makes me so nervous...

Choose: Yes, perfect.
Azusa: Don't stare like that... It's embarrassing. Say something.
Azusa: You look... somewhat happy. Hehe.
Continue 3
Azusa: I didn't expect you to be this strong-willed. I was surprised when you took me out to buy this swimsuit.
Azusa: I don't dislike it though. Rather, I kind of...
Azusa: N-never mind. You look charming in your swimwear as well, (Captain). I can't keep my eyes off you.
Azusa: Hehe. Well then, shall we? I've made some plans for us for the day.
Having gained a little confidence, Azusa takes out two pairs of goggles and beckons for (Captain) to follow her to the water.
Azusa: Have you put on your goggles? Good. This is something known as snorkeling where... oh, you'll find out once you look underwater.
Azusa: I discovered this activity on my search for a new hobby and wanted to show you too.
Azusa: Come with me.
The two slip into the water. However, once underwater, Azusa frowns and shakes her head.
She goes back up to the surface almost immediately.
Azusa: Bwah.
Why is it happening now, of all times...
Azusa: This is the season where you can see a lot of vividly colored fish and shells. They say the crystal flower fish is quite the beautiful sight...
Azusa: But I'm sorry. It seems the curse is acting up and my eyes aren't functioning as they should...
Azusa: I'm afraid I can't tell shape nor color if it's not right in front of my eyes. It will be hard for me to find the fish...
Azusa: Haha... Such is the fate of those cursed by the enchanted blade. It is my own fault.
Seeing Azusa dejected, (Captain) takes her hand and tries to gently persuade her back into the water.
After some hesitation, Azusa eventually follows the captain's suggestion and cautiously dips her head back under the surface,
Azusa: ...?
(Captain) searches for the fish Azusa had spoken of based on her earlier description. Spotting one, the captain guides it toward her.
Azusa: ...!
Azusa: I... I see it! There it is, (Captain)! That's the fish!
Azusa: Hehe, what a beautiful color... I didn't think I would be able to witness it with my weakened eyes.
Azusa: Thank you, (Captain). You truly are too kind.
  1. There's more you want to see, right?

Choose: There's more you want to see, right?
Azusa: Yes! I've heard of a poisonous octopus with an eye-catching pattern, as well as a rare starfish that can swim round and round!
The swordswoman excitedly tells the captain about the wonders of the sea. The two go under the water once more.
The captain guides everything resembling what Azusa had described toward her.
Once they've spent a good amount of time snorkeling, Azusa and (Captain) head back to shore to take a break.
The captain is relieved to see Azusa's eyesight slowly getting better.
Azusa: The fish were gorgeous. They were so close that I could almost touch them... It was like a dream.
Azusa: Especially that walking shark! I did hear of how it could walk with its fins and tail, but I didn't think it would be true.
Azusa: Walking with its tail... Hm. In other words, moving in a way it was not originally intended to move in.
Azusa: If applied to us, it would be like moving without using our feet... This could be a useful idea for a new battle tactic.
Azusa: Like drawing my sword, and then closing the distance without running... or making it seem as if I moved when I'm unable to physically.
Azusa: Ah... I'm sorry. I just went on and on by myself.
Azusa: It's important to be able to gauge the atmosphere when on a date, isn't it?
Azusa: I happened to see a couple in town once where only one of them was talking the entire time. It was rather awkward.
Azusa: Did that bore you, (Captain)?
  1. I could listen to you talk all day.

Choose: I could listen to you talk all day.
Azusa: ...!
Azusa: It seems my efforts in looking for new hobbies are bearing fruit. Hehe.
(Captain) adds that Narmaya will definitely be happy to hear her talk too.
Azusa: Really? You think she would?
Azusa: Thank you.
I... must apologize to you, however.
Azusa: You've been so kind in keeping me company. And yet...
Azusa: I invited you out here, making excuses and saying that it was practice for Narmaya.
Azusa: I'm very sorry. The truth is... that's not why I asked you to come.
Azusa: I... I wanted to get to know you better, (Captain)!
Azusa: Yes... I wanted to go on a date with you.
Azusa: Narmaya aside, what do you think, (Captain)?
Azusa: Do you truly think that... it's enjoyable talking with me?
  1. Of course.
  2. Yes. I want to hear more.

Choose: Of course.
Azusa: No hesitation in your answer... You truly have a straightforward character. I appreciate that about you, (Captain).

Choose: Yes. I want to hear more.
Azusa: Is that so? Hehe.
I see... I, too, would like to continue talking with you.
Continue 4
Azusa: (Captain), next time, I promise I will ask you directly. So if you'd like to do this again...
(Captain) reaches out to link fingers with Azusa as a sign of promise.
Azusa: Hehe. Strong-willed as ever.
Azusa: You should be careful, you know. If you come on so aggressively...
Azusa: I just might fall for you.
The captain promises to go out again with Azusa, whose cheeks flush red once more.
(Captain) smiles, happy that they were able to strengthen their bond through their time together today.

She Left It to Me

The time for Azusa and Narmaya to visit the beach arrives, and the two of them enjoy their day. As usual, they have a long spar on the beach, which abruptly ends when Narmaya's katana breaks. Feeling responsible for breaking Narmaya's blade, Azusa takes it upon herself to find her friend's next sword. Narmaya agrees and says she will leave it to Azusa.

A few days later, Azusa finally visits the beach with Narmaya.
Having gained a little bit of experience from her time with (Captain), Azusa is able to relax and enjoy their time together.
Halfway through the day, the two take a break under a pair of umbrellas that (Captain) had gifted them.
Narmaya: Azusa, today you seem somewhat...
Azusa: What's the matter? Did I do something wrong?
Narmaya: Not at all! The contrary, actually. You seem really confident, and it's been a very fun day.
Narmaya: Hehe. I expected myself to take the lead today...
Narmaya: But thanks to you, there was no need for me to. Thank you, Azusa. I'm having a lovely time.
Azusa: Hehe, I'm glad to hear that. I'm really happy that we can spend today together...
Azusa: Just the two of us.
Narmaya: I'm surprised though. You seem rather used to this... It's almost as if you've come here with someone else before.
Azusa: Oh, yes. I came here with (Captain) the other day.
Narmaya: The two of you? Alone?
Azusa: Um... yes. It was just... the two of us...
Narmaya: Oho...
Azusa: W-wait! It's not what you think. It's not that I was trying to keep (Captain) all to myself...
Azusa: I wanted today to be perfect, you see! So I asked (Captain) to go with me... as practice...
Narmaya pouts and looks over at the flustered Azusa, who desperately tries to explain.
But the frown soon turns into a smile, and Narmaya reaches over to give Azusa's cheek a playful poke.
Azusa: Eh?
Narmaya: Hehe. It's all right, I'm not angry with you.
Narmaya: I'm happy that you're getting along well with (Captain).
Narmaya: But, I am a teensy bit jealous. Of both you and (Captain).
Azusa: Ngh... I'm sorry, Narmaya...
Narmaya: I'm not mad at all!
Hmm, but... how about this—I'll forgive you if you spar with me.
Azusa: If that is what you want, then I'll be happy to oblige.
Narmaya: I know I said today was a fun day, but...
Azusa: Of course. Neither of us should go easy on the other.
The two smile bashfully at each other.
And in the next moment, a flurry of blades flash and clash.
The two happily cross swords with bright smiles on their faces. The extensive time they spend sparring passes by in an instant.
They release attack after attack at one another, too fast for the normal eye to see. Their eyes sparkle with anticipation.
Narmaya: Hehe, it seems you've become stronger yet again. The way you drew your sword earlier!
Narmaya: To think you tricked me into thinking you'd reached me, when you didn't even move a single step...
Azusa: I conceived the idea after observing a shark walking with its tail. Everything can be applied to battle, after all.
Azusa: Still, I'm no match for you. Not even close.
Azusa: I've invented new ways of utilizing my blade and created new tactics. But you still parry my slashes with ease!
Narmaya: Azusa... I'm putting my full power into my strikes. Do they feel light to you?
Azusa: An absurd question. My hands have lost all feeling! Your strikes are far from light!
Narmaya: It's the same for me! Your techniques and the way you handle your blade... Overcoming them is anything but easy!
Azusa: Right...
Narmaya: Hehe.
Both: (This is so nice...)
(This is nice...)
Their hearts pounding and eyes wide with excitement, Azusa and Narmaya enjoy their time crossing blades, almost as if they were on a shopping trip in town.
However, the time passes by like a dream and soon comes to an end.
Both: Oh!
Wha!
Narmaya's blade reaches its limit before the two swordswomen do.
Azusa: I don't believe it..
Narmaya: Hmm... It could be that I've been pushing it too hard recently. Unfortunate, but I suppose that will be all for today.
Azusa: I'm sorry I damaged your precious blade! How can I atone for it...
Narmaya: A-atone? I am a little sad to see it like this, but every blade is bound to break someday.
Narmaya: Besides, the fact that my blade broke is proof that I still have room to improve.
Azusa: No... It's because I kept aiming for the weak spots too many times...
Azusa: My techniques must not have been suitable for a blade to receive.
Azusa: Just look at your katana... It can't even be used anymore. What have I done...
Azusa: Teacher Gamshira will most certainly reprimand me... How could I have damaged his precious daughter's blade like this...
Narmaya: R-really, it's all right. You know I'm not fixed on any particular blade.
Azusa: But...
Narmaya: The essence of my sword is the magic power behind it. I use magic to transform the weapon—as long as the blade can channel my magic, anything works.
Narmaya: I'm the one who pushed my blade too far—I don't use it in a way it's intended for. I'll look for a new blade, so it's not a problem at all!
Azusa: Then...
Azusa: How about you grant me the honor of finding a new blade for you!
Narmaya: You'd find one for me?
Azusa: Yes! After all, I am the one who broke your precious weapon. The responsibility falls on me...
Azusa: So I should be the one to search! I'll find the perfect one, no matter how long it takes. Even if I must craft it myself!
Narmaya: Azusa...
Seeing the tears in Azusa's eyes, Narmaya gently grasps her hand.
Narmaya: Okay. I'll leave it to you then, Azusa!
Azusa: You... You will? J-just wait then!
Azusa: I'll most definitely bring back a blade worthy of you!
Azusa nods and immediately runs off, determined to accomplish her mission.

She Left It to Me: Scene 2

Still in her swimwear, Azusa goes off to find the swordsmith Kasumi, whom she once heard about from Gamshira. Confident that the man can craft the perfect blade for Narmaya, Azusa makes a request, which Kasumi promptly turns down. Azusa tells Kasumi that she is willing to do anything for him to forge a blade for her. Several days later, (Captain) and company begin to worry when Azusa still does not return to the ship.

Azusa: Pant... Pant...
Forgetting to change out of her swimwear, Azusa runs through the streets, thinking back to an incident in the past.
Azusa: Teacher, this blade...
Gamshira: You see it too, don't you, Azusa? The beauty of this blade.
Laruna: I'm sorry, Azusa. His bad habits never change... You don't have to keep him company like this if you don't want to.
Gamshira: Laruna... Referring to it as a "bad habit" makes it actually sound like something bad...
Azusa: It's all right, Laruna. Teacher is the one who's keeping me company.
Laruna: Ooh, you're just such a good girl, Azusa!
Laruna: Darling. Make sure you teach her properly, you hear?
Gamshira: Of course! This blade is signed with the name "Kasumi"—it's an inscribed katana with the name of its craftsman.
Gamshira: Capable of cutting through heavy fog and mist, it releases a light that can pierce the darkness... Very few blades can surmount it.
Azusa: Even an amateur like myself can tell. Not only does it possess great beauty, but also a bloodlust that sends a chill down my spine.
Gamshira: Exactly. It is a weapon made to kill, after all. But that is also part of its charm.
Gamshira: The Kasumi who forged this blade is undoubtedly a genius. He used to help me out quite a bit.
Azusa: Used to...
Laruna: I hear Kasumi doesn't forge blades anymore. He never gave a reason and keeps to himself now.
Gamshira: His katanas are of a caliber that surpasses even so-called enchanted blades. No other bladesmith I know could craft such things.
Gamshira: Such a shame...
Azusa: For this craftsman to receive such high praise from you, Teacher... I'd like to meet him someday.
Azusa: (Who thought I'd end up going to see him like this...)
Azusa finds herself at a workshop Gamshira—both her teacher and guardian—used to frequent.
After hearing Gamshira's story, Azusa had decided to look for the craftsman in hopes of asking him to craft Narmaya's new blade.
Azusa: Pardon my intrusion. Might you be the craftsman Kasumi?
Kasumi: What in the...
Kasumi: What is that getup? Can't believe there're people who won't even bother putting on proper clothes when visitin' someone.
Azusa: I... forgot to change in my haste to come find you.
Azusa: There is an urgent matter I'd like to ask you about, Kasumi. Will you listen?
Azusa steps toward the Draph and hands him the bottle she had in her hand.
Kasumi: I take back what I said earlier—looks like you do have some manners in ya. Suppose I could lend an ear to whatever you've got to say.
Kasumi: Though there's really no need to. You want me to forge a blade for ya, don'tcha? That katana looks plain awful.
Azusa: Awful? But I haven't even shown it to you.
Kasumi: To put it more tastefully... I can hear it screamin'.
Azusa: Screaming?
Kasumi: In addition to the chip in the blade, the impact caused the handle to crack.
Kasumi: It can't fit snugly into the sheath anymore. Makin' a pretty ghastly sound just hangin' at your waist.
Azusa: For you to have gauged so much in an instant... Your talent is as Teacher Gamshira said.
Kasumi: Oho, Teacher Gamshira now, is it? So he's made a name for himself. And you heard about me from him and want me to forge ya a blade.
Azusa: What I'd like you to forge is not a blade for myself.
Azusa: It's actually a blade for... a friend.
Kasumi: Aaah... Whew, that was some good stuff. Thanks for bringing that over.
Kasumi: Well, out with ya.
Azusa: Wha! Wait, please. Listen to me!
Kasumi: No can do. I heard what ya had to say. That was in return for the drink.
Azusa: No... Please, I...
Kasumi: Ask another craftsman. I'm not gonna help ya do it and I'm done listenin'.
Azusa: Another one won't do... I can't have Narmaya's blade crafted by just anyone.
Azusa: Please. Whatever you want, if it's within my power, I will do it! I'll do anything!
Kasumi: Fool. Don't make promises you can't fulfill.
Azusa: I'm serious!
Kasumi: Oho? I see. You'll do anything, hm?
Kasumi: Even give yourself up?
The Draph approaches Azusa with unsteady steps, the corners of his mouth turning upward devilishly.
Azusa: ...!
Weeks after Azusa sets out in search of a new blade...
The swordswoman has yet to return to (Captain)'s ship.
Vyrn: Hey, Butterfly Girl. I know Azusa said she was gonna go look for your new katana, but it's been a pretty long time. Think she's okay?
Narmaya: Azusa felt responsible for my katana, so I wanted to help her feel better and thought it'd be best if I respected her wishes...
Narmaya: I expected her to go to a weapons shop and come back with a new one soon after that, but it has been a while...
Narmaya: What do you think we should do, (Captain)?
  1. It's Azusa. She'll be fine.
  2. Let's believe in her.

Choose: It's Azusa. She'll be fine.
Vyrn: Yeah! Azusa's strong just like you, Butterfly Girl. She can take care of herself!
Vyrn: I'm sure she'll be back in no time. Let's put our trust in her and wait.

Choose: Let's believe in her.
Lyria: I do worry about her... but it's important to put our trust in Azusa too.
Lyria: Why don't we wait a little while longer? If she doesn't come back soon, we can go look for her together!
Continue 1
Narmaya: Yeah... You're right. Let's do that.
(Captain) helps calm Narmaya, and together, they await Azusa's return.
But Azusa doesn't come back—not the day after, nor the day after that.

She Left It to Me: Scene 3

Kasumi tasks Azusa with going to North Vast in her swimsuit and finding rare items to forge ten blades with her own hands. The man expects Azusa to give up, as he has had many other people who approached him with requests before, but were unwilling to work for them. However, much to Kasumi's surprise, Azusa eventually returns with everything he had asked of her. The swordsmith apologizes for his harsh attitude and decides to make Azusa his new apprentice and impart all of his knowledge onto her.

Kasumi: Aaah!
Kasumi: How many days has it been? Ah well, doesn't matter... It's just as I thought.
Kasumi: She's probably gone too by now.
The man stands in his workshop, finishing the remainder of his bottle and reflecting on the incident a few weeks ago.
Azusa: ...!
I will give myself up, if it's for Narmaya's sake!
Kasumi: All right. No going back on your words.
Head to North Vast—in that outfit of yours.
Azusa: North Vast?
Kasumi: Go find some bewitched water—the coldest water in existence—and some magic ironsand. It's ironsand that changes shape and hardness with magic.
Kasumi: After that, forge ten blades with your own hands. You can do it by trial and error, or ask someone to teach you.
Azusa: M-me?
Kasumi: You're not goin' back on your words, are ya?
Azusa: No. I'm not.
And with that, Azusa promptly leaves the workshop for North Vast.
Kasumi: I'll be here waitin'.
Kasumi: Sigh...
Just as the man is about to lift the bottle to his mouth again, he hears something.
The door to the workshop opens, revealing a worn Azusa carrying a basket.
Azusa: Sorry I... took so long...
Kasumi: I don't believe it... You mean... you actually managed to do what I told ya to do? Dressed like that?
Kasumi: It's the dead of winter in North Vast... Your clothes barely shield you from anything.
Azusa: I told you... I don't go back on my words...
Azusa hands the man a large container of water and a bag of ironsand.
Kasumi: This bottle... It's infused with magic to prevent the water inside from freezing or warmin' up to room temperature.
Azusa: I realized from listening to you that a normal method of transport would not suffice for this type of water.
Azusa: I was able to make use of the knowledge I acquired on how to make magical tools during my search for a new hobby.
Kasumi: So you made this yourself? Incredible... You even got the ironsand...
Kasumi: I don't get it...
Kasumi: To get this stuff, you need to go to places crawling with the Odajumoki and powerful monsters... Normal skyfarers don't stand a chance.
Azusa: I had a talk with them, and we came to an understanding.
Kasumi: (Lies... Those hotheaded gangsters would never give up anything just from talkin'.)
Kasumi: (She won it from them.)
Azusa pulls out ten blades from the basket and shows the man, who is stunned into silence.
Kasumi: ...
Azusa: I didn't buy these. I—
Kasumi: I can tell just by lookin'. These blades look horrible, but they're way better than anything some shabby ol' weapons shop would sell.
Kasumi: Where did you learn how to forge these?
Azusa: I used the time it took to sail to North Vast. I read some books on bladesmithing—so I'm afraid these are products of mere knowledge...
Kasumi: You made these just from what you learned from books? You'd never be able to make anything into the shape of a blade just by that.
Azusa: Yes. That's why...
Azusa: I tried forging it into the right shape over and over again, failing hundreds of times.
Kasumi: ...
Kasumi: (It takes days to craft even one blade... I can't believe she actually did all this!)
Kasumi: Why are you willing to go this far?
Azusa: It's for... a friend.
Kasumi: A friend?
Azusa: Yes. She's... an important friend.
Azusa: That friend said she's leaving it to me. So I have to do it!
Kasumi: That's it?
Azusa: I don't need any other reason.
Kasumi: ...
Kasumi: You want a katana? Go buy one yourself.
Restless Man: It has to be one that you crafted! I want a blade with your signature on it!
Eager Man: Let me be your apprentice! I'll carry your techniques to the next generation!
Kasumi: Okay, then show me what you've got. Do everything I tell ya to, and then we'll talk.
Men: You're on! We'll do anything!
Kasumi: Heh, ran away, did they? Knew they didn't have it in 'em.
Kasumi: They're always all talk...
Kasumi: I'm sorry.
Azusa: Why are you apologizing?
Kasumi: I expected you to be the same as all those people who were all talk.
Kasumi: Those people who think they just have to bribe me with a drink and get on my good side.
Kasumi: That's why I gave you nearly impossible tasks... I thought you were gonna run away just like all the other ones.
Kasumi: It was rude of me.
Azusa: I knew what you were trying to do.
Kasumi: What?
Azusa: Besides, I was the one who was rude. From the very beginning, I never expected to receive help from you with only a gift.
Azusa: I heard from Teacher Gamshira that you don't forge blades anymore.
Azusa: Nevertheless, I decided to ask you. I had never even met you before, and here I was asking for you to craft a katana for me.
Azusa: So it would be unjust of me not to at least complete the challenges you presented me with.
Azusa: Have I sufficiently proved my resolution? Will you... craft a blade for me?
Kasumi: No.
Azusa: ...
Kasumi: The one crafting the blade will be you.
Azusa: Wha... Me?
Kasumi: These ten blades are terrible, but they're proof of the blood and sweat that went into forging them. You've got both guts and talent.
Kasumi: I've decided. You're gonna be my apprentice!
Azusa: Huh? Apprentice? You can't be serious—
Kasumi: I've made my decision—you're my apprentice starting now! And you're gonna be the one to forge that blade for your friend!
Kasumi: I'll teach ya everything I know!
Azusa: ...
I'm ready!

She Left It to Me: Scene 4

After a few more days, the crew finally receives a letter from Azusa and immediately sails to the location noted in the letter. Looking battered, Azusa hands Narmaya a blade she forged herself. When Narmaya tries swinging it, her slash slices the ocean itself into two. Touched by the superiority of the blade, Narmaya gives Azusa a hug. The two cross swords once more and enjoy their time together.

Days later, (Captain) and company finally decide to go on a search for Azusa.
Just as they are about to depart, they receive a letter.
It's a letter from Azusa, asking the crew to come to the beach she had gone to with (Captain) and Narmaya before.
The crew immediately sail to the specified location, where they find their friend looking ragged and leaning against the trunk of a tree.
Narmaya: Azusa!
Azusa: Oh... Narmaya. I'm sorry I took so long...
Narmaya: You look terrible... How did you become like this? Are you all right?
Azusa: Don't worry about me... Please, take this...
Narmaya: You brought back a...
Vyrn: A katana... That's an impressive lookin' one. It's practically sparklin'!
Lyria: I can't take my eyes off it...
Narmaya: This katana is more beautiful than anything I've seen in Father's collection... Where did you get this?
Azusa: You said you'd leave it to me, right?
Narmaya: You mean this blade is for... me?
Azusa: Yes, I crafted it myself with the help of my master.
Lyria: Master?
Wait, did you say you made this yourself, Azusa?
Vyrn: I always knew you could do anything you put your heart to...
Vyrn: But craftin' a sword like this is on a whole different level...
Narmaya: Azusa... You did this much, all for me...
Azusa: Give it a swing...
Narmaya: Okay.
Narmaya gives the glimmering blade a swing.
The slash makes no sound, piercing through the air with incredible force...
Before splitting the sea itself in two.
The Three: ...!
Azusa: Hehe, perfect. Narmaya's every swing mesmerizes me...
Narmaya: No... It's not me. I wouldn't have been able to do something like this so easily.
Narmaya: I only gave the katana a light swing to test it...
Vyrn: Then... how'd that happen?
Lyria: It just shows how amazing the sword Azusa crafted is, right?
Narmaya: Yes, I'm sure of it! It's my first time seeing a blade of this caliber...
Growing ecstatic, Narmaya tries channeling her power into the katana before swinging it again.
Together with her deft movements, the blade becomes a broad sword, a spear, and a lance, changing into an axe or a dagger at other times.
Narmaya: Its transformation is so fluid and natural... as if it's a part of my own body.
Azusa: That's how I pictured it to be when I crafted it. Hehe, I'm glad it turned out the way I wanted it to. I'm so happy, Narmaya.
Narmaya: Me too... I'm so happy! To think you would craft such a wonderful blade for me...
Narmaya: Thank you, Azusa... Thank you so much!
Narmaya wraps her arms around Azusa, whose brief expression of surprise soon turns into a smile as she hugs her friend back.
Narmaya: I'd really like to test out this blade as soon as possible...
Azusa: In that case... allow me the honor.
Narmaya: But Azusa, you're already worn out...
Azusa: No need to worry. It's strange—I can feel energy welling up inside at the thought of crossing blades with you.
Azusa: I fixed my own blade while I was at it, so it's ready. Hehe, I'm sure it's going to be a lot of fun.
Lyria: Umm, are you sure you don't want to rest for a while first?
Vyrn: Yeah, don't go pushin' yourself too hard. If Narmaya needs a sparring partner, she's still got (Captain) here.
  1. No, it has to be Azusa.

Choose: No, it has to be Azusa.
Lyria: But...
Azusa: All right. Here I come, Narmaya.
Narmaya: Are you really okay? I'm not going to hold back, you know.
Azusa: That's exactly how I want it! It's always a serious battle for me!
Narmaya: Hehe.
Azusa: Hehe!
Laughing, the two swordswomen promptly unsheathe their katanas and begin a beautiful dance of blades.
The two swords flash, their slashes cutting through the waves and sending the clouds in the sky far into oblivion.
The joy from the bottom of their hearts turns into smiles on their faces as they continue their catastrophic battle.
Vyrn: What's up with them... Well, as long as they're havin' fun, I guess.
Lyria: Yeah. Still...
Vyrn: Whoa, whoa! Take it easy, will ya! You're changin' the geography!
Lyria: We should stop them before things get too out of hand, (Captain)!
(Captain) hurriedly runs toward the two, sword in hand.
After that, it becomes an unspoken rule that (Captain) is to stand guard whenever Azusa and Narmaya's blades clash.
