The Lonely Folklorist
The party visits Sierokarte seeking a new mission, where they reunite with the folklorist Johann. After completing the mission, Johann takes a keen interest in Lyria and her ability to manipulate the power of the primals, expressing a strong desire to elucidate its source. With curiosity as his guide, Johann joins the crew.
On a visit to Sierokarte to pick up a new job request, (Captain) and company have an unexpected reunion.
Johann: It has been too long, everyone. I haven't seen you since that matter on Lognos.
Vyrn: Well, if it isn't Mr. Scholar! Doing well for yourself, I take it?
Johann: I am. Quite the coincidence running into you here. I'm looking for a job request.
Sierokarte: Aw, sorry, folks! I only have one request available at the moment.
Johann: All right, then, everyone. I have a proposal. Why don't we undertake it together?
Johann: I believe it may be quite enlightening to work with someone else for a change.
Lyria: Yay! Having you on our side would be really reassuring, Johann!
Sierokarte: All right, then! Be careful out there, everyone!
Shortly thereafter, our heroes complete the mission with Johann and return to Sierokarte.
Johann: These really are more fun if you do them with others!
Choose: You always go it alone?
- You always go it alone?
- Now goodbye forever.
Johann: Yes, that's right.Choose: Now goodbye forever.
Johann: Saying such a thing after we've been apart for so long is a bit cruel.
Choose: Just kidding.
- Just kidding.
- Seriously, bye.
Johann: I thought so. Really, I did.Choose: Seriously, bye.
Johann: You've nearly brought me to tears.
Choose: Aw, sorry!
- Aw, sorry!
- What a baby.
Johann: Well, that's a relief.Continue 2
Johann: Anyway, let's get down to business.Choose: What a baby.
Vyrn: Hey! Where are you going, Mr. Scholar?
Afterwards, the crew catches Johann as he runs through the market with tears in his eyes, and frantically tries to pacify him.
(Captain) ultimately apologizes for going overboard.Continue 1
Vyrn: Hmm... So you've been researching as well as taking job requests all by yourself this whole time?
Johann: Well, as a researcher, there was simply no way I could join a crew.
Johann: What if I received a job request during important research, or vice versa?
Johann: As such, I've primarily worked alone up to this point.
Johann: But I've started to think it might be interesting to work with others from time to time.
Choose: Care to join our crew?
- Care to join our crew?
- So what, you want an invitation?
Johann: Goodness, yes. Assuming I won't get in the way, of course.Choose: So what, you want an invitation?
Johann: You're being rather cold today...Continue 3
Johann: Truth is, you see... The reason I broached such a subject is because of my keen interest in Lyria.
Lyria: Huh? Your interest... in me?
Johann: As a scholar, I wish to know more about the secrets of the Astrals.
Johann: It's no surprise, then, that I'm curious about the source of Lyria's power to manipulate primal beasts.
Lyria: You want to shed light on the secret of my powers?
Johann: Precisely! At Lognos Island, you said you didn't know the source of your powers, Lyria.
Johann: Do you not wish to find out? Personally, I'm brimming with curiosity.
Lyria: I... I want to know, too.
Lyria: So um, (Captain)! Why don't we have Johann come with us?
Choose: Sure thing.
- Sure thing.
- I don't want to have to take care of him.
Johann: Thank you, (Captain). That's quite the relief to hear.
Vyrn: Yeah! If it means finding out the secret behind Lyria's powers, I'm onboard!Choose: I don't want to have to take care of him.
Johann: You make it sound like I'm a mere house pet...
Lyria: We'll make sure you get taken for walks three times a day!
Vyrn: Hoo boy... I feel kinda bad about the way you're getting treated here, Mr. Scholar.
Vyrn: Anyway! If it means finding out the secret behind Lyria's powers, I'm fine with bringing you aboard!Continue 4
Johann: I believe I should prove useful to you. As you may know, I have a certain degree of fluency in the ancient language of the Astrals.
Johann: If you intend to find the Island of the Astrals by tracing the footprints of the Astrals themselves, my expertise will likely come in handy.
Johann: I'm looking forward to working with you again, (Captain). We're going to make it to Estalucia one day. You can count on it.
And with that, the folklorist Johann joins (Captain)'s crew.
His wealth of knowledge will doubtless prove a great help to our heroes.
Johann the Hunted
(Captain)'s party is suddenly attacked as they are working on a mission on an island. The attackers seem to be after Johann, but the reason is not yet clear.
(Captain)'s party is suddenly attacked during a mission on a remote island.
The attackers' objective is unclear, but they don't seem interested in interfering with the party's mission.
Vyrn: Geez! What's with these guys attacking us all of a sudden!
Lyria: Hm, they seem to be after Johann.
Johann: Hm, yes. There can be no doubt about that.
Katalina: Who are they? Judging from their equipment, they seem like an order of knights from somewhere.
Johann: Actually, I've had a lot of people after me as of late. People under the comand of someone rich and powerful, no less.
Katalina: I find that hard to believe. Why would they be after you?
Johann: They have their reasons. You don't need to be involved in black market dealings or dark conspiracies to be a target.
Katalina: Hm. I don't know what those reasons are, but we need to get out of here. That much is obvious.
Johann: Indeed. I've repelled them before, but I may not be so lucky next time.
Johann: Each time I defend myself successfully, they redouble their efforts.
Assassin 1: Ah ha! There you are, Johann!
Johann: Great. They found me.
Assassin 2: Heheh... Time to hand it over!
Assassin 2: Aagh!
Assassin 1: Why, you little... Where do you get off?
Johann: I'm not going to just hand it over. Not on my life. You're going to have to work for it.
Johann the Hunted: Scene 2
The attackers are after Johann's staff. They relay their employer's offer for the staff, a sum of money that could buy an island, but Johann firmly refuses. With their patience depleted, the attackers sic monsters on the crew.
Assassin: No! We have to get that staff! Don't let it get away!
Vyrn: Wait, those guys want your staff?
Johann: Seems like it. Quite the bother, if I do say so. They simply don't know when to quit.
Katalina: But... why do they want your staff so badly?
Johann: Whatever the case, I can't let them have it. Period.
Assassin: Listen, we're not telling you to give it to us for free! We're offering to pay a lot of money!
Assassin: See? Look at this letter! This is how much our client will pay you! Are you saying this isn't enough?
The assassin tosses over a letter, which Katalina picks up off the ground.
Katalina: I don't believe this... You could buy an island for that price!
Lyria: Oh my gosh!
Johann: Sigh... I have no intention of selling my staff, no matter the price.
Assassin: Then you leave us no choice! Do it!
Vyrn: They're releasing monsters!
Assassin: You should have handed it over when we asked!
Johann the Hunted: Scene 3
Johann's staff is a relic of the Astrals, which he uses as a weapon since he doesn't know its actual use. His dream, Johann reveals, is to discover the staff's origin and true purpose.
Assassin: This isn't over! Next time... you won't get off so easily!
Johann: Looks like we're done here. Thank you for the help. I don't know if I could have handled them alone.
Lyria: Um, what's that staff of yours? How could it be worth the price of an island?
Johann: Oh, this?
Katalina: Yeah. Why are there people that want it so badly?
Johann: I haven't mentioned it before? This is a relic of the Astrals.
Lyria: Wow, the Astrals made it? So it must have some kind of mysterious—
Lyria: Wait... Oh my gosh!
Katalina: It must be incredibly valuable, then!
Johann: Yes, it's likely safe to assume so.
Johann: What value can money have when discussing a relic from a culture and people that vanished hundreds of years ago?
Vyrn: Wowie wow wow... I had no idea you were swinging around something that valuable!
Johann: I still don't know what the staff's true purpose is, so using it in this manner is all part of my research.
Johann: To use something is to understand it, after all.
Johann: There seems to be some magic left in it, so it's been quite useful to me as a weapon.
Lyria: Wow, we've had something that incredible with us this whole time?
Johann: To find out why this staff was created and where it came from... That is my dream.
Johann: When the staff is once again used for its original purpose, perhaps then I will glimpse the world spoken of in the myths of creation... A man can dream, yes?
Motivated by an inexhaustible curiosity, Johann's search will continue until he finally finds what he's looking for.
