A woman living on a snowy mountain, where she carries out her duty of guarding an everlasting cave of ice. Though originally from the snowy village at the foot of the mountain, as part of that village's wicked traditions she was offered up as a living sacrifice to the snowy mountain. Because of that, she has little memory of either the village or her parents. The previous guardian of the ice cave gave her knowledge of the ice magic with which to seal the cave, how to fight and use her ice magic, and the name "Izmir." Unlike the blood relatives who had so easily given her up, her predecessor is more like a father to her than a real father, and she loves him as warmly. She was a normal person until she inherited the power of ice, so she is weak to the cold. "Izmir" is the name given to the guardian of the ice cave. I tried to come up with something I thought you might like, but nothing came to mind. So here. This is called The Not-So-Spicy-Looking-But-Crazy-Hot-And-Addictive Mouth-Burning Spice Sensation. Or Crazy Spice for short. There are barely any places that carry this. I actually learned about it well after joining the crew. Recently this has become one of my favorite ingredients. Just one dash of this can turn any dish into a burning-hot sensation. But not only is it hot, it also tastes incredible. I can hardly believe it myself. Your whole body feels like it's on fire. It's quite an uncontrollable... thrill. If you feel the desire, go ahead. Try some Crazy Spice.
2	✔	Happy birthday! Last year I gave you Crazy Spice for your birthday. Hehe. Did it help you build up your tolerance for hot and spicy things? Many ideas crossed my mind about the right gift for you this year, but I just couldn't find anything. So I switched gears. See that lake over there? I blasted it with ice to turn it into a skating rink. We can skate knowing the ice could break at anytime. It'll be twice as thrilling. My idea is to give you a different type of thrill that you wouldn't get in a battle. Shall we get to slipping and sliding?

Izmir sweeps her hand upward, and a blue-white light shoots into the heavens. Heehee. It's like an illusion, isn't it? With a snap of her fingers, Izmir's magic transforms the landscape into a winter wonderland. It always worries me to push my magic this far, but I don't mind if it's for you, (Captain). Hm? Izmir looks up in puzzlement when an especially large hailstone impacts the ground next to her. Oh my, I might have dropped the temperature down a bit too much. A barrage of icy pellets bounce off the protective ice shelter that Izmir has erected over her and (Captain). Mm-hm, I definitely overdid it, haha.
5	✔	Happy birthday... I'm so happy that we can celebrate this day together again. But... there's something that's bothering me, you see. I still don't know what I can do on your special day that'd make you the most happy... Since joining this crew, I've met a lot of people and have seen what kinds of things others do. I've learned a lot from them... At the same time, everyone has their own ways, so the more I learn from different people, the less I know which is the correct way to do things. When I was living on that mountain, I was near what I was supposed to protect. It was that thought that always kept me company. But now that I know everyone's kindness, I don't think I could ever go back to that mountain. Hehe. So (Captain), let's ring in the new year... together.
2	✔	Happy New Year, (Captain). My, what a revitalizing day it is. I usually don't have such a fresh outlook at the start of a new year. Traveling with you is what made that possible. It might be natural for you, but feeling refreshed and invigorated is a change of pace for me. I'm happy for the change, but it's also a little... sad? Snow Queen of Summer Sea

Izmir's body is weakening because she has no outlet for her ice magic, but she hides this from the crew. With summer vacation around the corner, she fights through her pain in order to make the most of her time on the beach with her crewmates.

There's a cave in a snowy mountain that remains perpetually frozen. The appointed guardian of this cave is a woman named Izmir.

Given the moniker snow queen by nearby villagers, they placed a bounty on her head. The crew took this request, and that's how they first met the snow queen.

Izmir: I saw the fear in your eyes and saved you from those monsters...
But perhaps you didn't want my help?

The snow queen was responsible for freezing anything that drew near the ice cave, earning the fear of the villagers.

In actuality conversing with the snow queen reveals not an icy terror, but a kind, pure-hearted woman.

Izmir: You're the first ones. Ever since that person passed away, you're the first ones to heed my request.

Izmir: And that's why... I'll let you live.

Although she dislikes the cold, her duty keeps her bound to the mountain, never knowing the world outside. She is alone.

What keeps her going is the need to fulfill a promise she made to a certain important person.

Izmir: I have, in some small way, performed my task. So then, will you take me with you at least until your next mission is complete? No?

(Captain) isn't sure what to make of this woman who wishes to join the crew while simultaneously safeguarding her promise.

But it's clear to (Captain) that refusing this woman who has nowhere else to turn to is impossible.

Izmir: Oh, well thank you. You're so kind. I like that.

And so Izmir finds a new home aboard the Grandcypher.

It turns out that Izmir is a name of destiny—a name that is bestowed upon the one chosen to protect the ice cave.

Her real name is Larana, though only (Captain), Lyria, and Vyrn know this.

And despite the ice magic she possesses and the title of Izmir conferred to her, she is simply a normal person.

Izmir: Huff... Huff... Nngh!

Izmir: Urgh...

The sun has yet to rise, though daybreak is approaching. Izmir groans distressfully in her sleep.

Tears stream from her closed eyes, freezing into droplets half way down her cheeks before breaking off onto the bed.

Izmir: Huff... Huff...

Izmir: Oooh...

Izmir silently clutches her shoulders with both arms in a desperate attempt to prevent ice from shooting out of her body.

Izmir: Huff... This is exactly what happened to that person...

Izmir: Ungh... If I don't use my ice magic, my body will become nothing more than my coffin.

Izmir: Huff... Huff...

Without an outlet for the ice magic accumulating inside her, Izmir's body is slowly crystallizing from the inside out.

Izmir: I have to go back... to my sanctuary...

Izmir: Uggh...

Vyrn: Nice one! Hehe! Good to know you've got our backs, Winter Wondergirl!

Lyria: Yeah! And we want to help you protect what's important to you.

The changes to Izmir's body occurred some time after she joined the crew.

Living with skyfarers is quite different from living alone on a snowy mountain, and the opportunities for venting her ice magic are few and far between.

However, she keeps this all to herself so as not to scare off her compatriots.

One day (Captain) makes an announcement.

Carren: We're vacationing in Auguste this year? Woo-hoo!

Korwa: I haven't been to Auguste in forever! I'm looking forward to stretching out on the beach once I get all my work done.

Everyone in the crew delights at (Captain)'s choice of this year's vacation destination.

Carren: If we're talking Auguste beaches, that means we gotta get our swimsuits ready! I wanna wear a cute bikini!

Izmir: Auguste? Swimsuits?

Carren: Swimsuits are outfits that you wear for hanging out at the beach! Oh, this'll be your first time, right?

Izmir: Yes... My first time to the sea...

Korwa: Auguste is a tropical island. The heat goes without saying, but it's a place where even the people and everything else are burning with zest.

Izmir: A place of warmth... How wonderful... I'd like to see the sea too.

Korwa: Then I'll take extra care in designing a swimsuit that's perfect for you! I hope you'll like it.

Izmir: Thank you, Korwa.

And so the long-awaited day finally arrives.

(Captain) and company rush to Venera Beach as soon as the Grandcypher touches down on Auguste.

Izmir: ...

Izmir: Mmm... Hot...

Izmir: So this is Auguste...

(Captain)'s eyes are transfixed on Izmir, dressed in Korwa's tailor-made swimsuit.

Izmir: Hm? What is it, (Captain)?

Vyrn: Ugh! I bet these people are gossiping about Winter Wondergirl!

Izmir: ...?

Lyria: They're all looking at Larana...

Lyria: Gasp! Could they be trying to get a date with her?

Vyrn: Just ignore 'em! We're too busy having fun!

Carren: Hey! What are you slowpokes doing? We rented the yacht! Get on already!

Lyria: Oops! Let's go, Larana!

Izmir: Yes, let's enjoy ourselves!

Giving the glances and whispers the cold shoulder, Izmir instead focuses on the exciting memories that will be created on this vacation.

She sets sail on the high seas with her trusty friends.

A Midsummer Night's Freeze

(Captain) and company are having a blast being pulled through the water by trained sea creatures, but Izmir starts to feel woozy soon after. She insists that she's fine, adding that she simply needs a quick break.

Swimmy Wrangler: Now hold on tightly, everyone!

Vyrn: My body is ready!

Lyria: Okay!

Izmir: Like this?

(Captain) and company are floating in their inflatable swim tubes. Their hearts beat faster and faster as they're about to be taken for a ride by swimmies.

Swimmy Wrangler: Good, good! Remember not to loosen that grip! And awaaay you go!

Vyrn: Hehe! Go easy on us!

Lyria: Nice to meet you, Mr. Swimmy!

Swimmy: ...!

Water sprays every which way as the swimmies suddenly lurch forth into the waves.

The crew is yanked along behind them, their inner tubes hopping and skipping across the water's surface.

Vyrn: Yaahooo! Awesome!

Lyria: Wheee!

Izmir: ...!

While the swimmies swim happily, the riders continue to be pelted with sea water as they hold on for dear life.

The swimmies pick up speed, and the inner tubes smack the water even harder. The riders are having a blast.

Vyrn: Ahahaha! What a splash!

Lyria: Whoa! I feel like I'm slipping! Larana!

Izmir: Are you okay, Lyria? Hang on to me.

Swimmy Wrangler: Oho? You're pretty good, miss. All right, time to show you what these guys can really do!

Swimmy: ...!

With a flick of the trainer's finger, the swimmies accelerate even faster.

Izmir: Hehe!

The burst in speed throws the inner tubes up wildly into the air before crashing back down on the whitecaps.

Vyrn, Lyria, and (Captain) give everything they have to keep from slipping into the sea.

But Izmir has expertly maintained her balance on this thrilling ride since the very beginning. She soaks up the delightful experience.

Izmir: Aah, that was entertaining.

Lyria: I was trying so hard not to fall off at the end there!

Vyrn: Geez, that trainer guy and his swimmies were going overboard!

Vyrn: He saw how much fun Winter Wondergirl was having and thought he'd push it to the extreme!

Izmir: How thrilling. And you were all just lovely out there—

Izmir: ...!

Vyrn: Uh... Something wrong?

Izmir: ...

Lyria: Are you okay, Larana? Do you feel sick?

Izmir: No, I think I might have gotten just a little too jubilant, that's all. I think I'll go sit down for a spell.

A Midsummer Night's Freeze: Scene 2

As the crew tends to Izmir, they hear about a heat endurance contest in which the winner gets to take home a bonito. Izmir enters the contest, battling the heat as the crew cheers her on.

Izmir: The sea is a mysterious place...

Lyria: Larana! I bought drinks for us!

Lyria: Do you want the Blue Auguste or the coconut smoothie?

Izmir: Thanks, Lyria. Either one's fine with me, so you pick first.

Lyria: Oh, okay then! Hm... I think I'll have the Blue Auguste!

Izmir: All right. You can have a sip of the smoothie if you want.

Lyria: Can I? Yay!

Vyrn: Are you feeling any better now, Winter Wondergirl?

Izmir: Yes, much better.

Vyrn: From now on you gotta balance fun and rest while you're out in this heat!

Izmir: Haha... You're right. Thank you, Vyrn and Lyria. And you as well, (Captain).

Vyrn: By the way, the juice lady told us about an event going on right now at a beach bungalow!

Vyrn: The winner gets to take home a bonito! We were just talking about whether we should join!

Izmir: What kind of event is it?

Vyrn: We don't know actually. Wanna head over and check it out?

Izmir: Okay, let's go.

Vyrn: "You will be locked in a room and made to withstand the blazing heat..." So it's an endurance challenge?

Lyria: That's an incredible challenge! Only the strongest can tough it out. I don't think we can compete in this!

(Captain) and the others are not prepared to tackle this competition. They are about to give up on taking the challenge.

Izmir: I like the sound of it.

Lyria: Huh? Don't tell me you're planning on participating, Larana!

Izmir: Yes, I'd like to give it a try.
