  • The names of Sylphs's skills and charge attack are mostly German.
    • "Falter Tanz" roughly means "Butterfly Dance" (Falter is a type of butterfly).
    • "Liebesfreud" means "joy of love"

Happy Birthday Cutscenes

1

Happy birthday, (Captain).
It is a privilege to be able to spend your special day together with you.
It's nothing much, but I have a gift for you.
Sylph produces a bouquet overflowing with pink roses from behind her back.
I really wasn't sure what you would like...
But I know that flowers make me happy, so I was hoping they would make you happy too.
Thank you for everything. I will remain at your side.

2

Happy birthday. It is a pleasure for me to celebrate this special day with you.
I have written you a letter. I hope you will accept it.
I wanted to put into words all the gratitude, fondness, and many other feelings I have for you, you see...
I would like to write a letter for you next year as well.
And the following year, and the year after that... I know forever is asking too much, but at least for a long time to come.

3

Happy birthday, Captain. I hope you don't mind if we spend it together again.
I also wrote you a letter. I had a lot to write, so there are even more pages than last year.
I think it's because you've helped me experience many things this past year.
I have felt much warmth in my chest and a lightness in my steps... Sometimes, I even feel lightheaded in your presence.
I'm not used to many things yet, but being by your side has always been comfortable.
I predict that... next year, I will have even more pages to write.

Sylph: Strange... Why do the children of man find need to celebrate the beginning of the year?
There truly exists no divisions in time. The children of man have only come up with concepts like the "year" for their own convenience.
Choose: Sometimes, we need an excuse to let loose.
(Captain) replies with a smile, motioning toward the bustling group.
Sylph: Is that it? Most interesting.
(Captain) nods and invites the primal beast to join in on the fun.
Sylph: Karuta, spinning tops, kites, badminton, kendama, and dice games...
So many toys and games. It would seem you all take this "letting loose" very seriously.
(Captain). Before we begin, I have thirty questions I must ask you.
The sun sets before Sylph is able to make it to the end of her internal list of questions. She retires for the evening without even playing anything.

2

(Captain)... I see you are relaxing under this "kotatsu" as well.
Everyone in the crew was talking about how amazing they are, and how the comfort they provide makes them hard to escape from.
What could be happening beneath that blanket? Is someone massaging your feet? Or perhaps it possesses some special magical property...
Choose: Hop under and see for yourself.
Are you sure?
(Captain) nods, and Sylph slowly and tentatively puts her legs under the kotatsu.
It's warm... But it's just a simple heater?
Wait, this is quite something... I have lost all will to emerge from the kotatsu.
How strange... I don't sense any sort of magical power.
As Sylph tilts her head curiously, (Captain) smiles and offers her an orange atop the table.

Valentine's Day Cutscenes

(Captain). I tried making you some Valentine's chocolate. I hope you will accept it.
I realized that this hobby is likely very suited for me, despite it being my very first attempt.
I can follow a recipe with a clear list of ingredients and steps to follow. They are not vague at all.
I did run into one problem, however.
The recipe I used called for "a dash of love."
Does love have anything to do with cooking? And what exactly is a dash? Is that more than a teaspoon?
I spent an entire month trying to figure out what to do, but in the end, I decided to ignore that step.
So please forgive me if the chocolates are not good.
Choose: I'm sure they are delicious!
(Captain) also assures Slyph that her time and effort are more than appreciated, no matter the result.
Whatever you say... As long as you are happy, then I am too.

2

Here, (Captain). Please accept this vial.
I tried making a jam using rose petals and honey.
I remember Granny often used to make this with the flowers she couldn't sell.
I cannot say if it's as good as hers, as I was merely imitating what I watched her do.
But I wanted you to enjoy that gentle aroma and taste.
With a word of thanks, (Captain) takes the small bottle.
Happy Valentine's Day. I hope you have a marvelous one.

(Captain)? Do you have some business with me?
(Captain) nods, and hands the primal beast a certain token of thanks.
Is this... a bookmark? It is decorated with some lovely pressed flower petals.
Thank you. This will make a great tool for when I must pause in reading my fairy tales.
...
Strange... Just looking at this bookmark... A feeling of warmth is welling up within my chest.
It is a practical item, but I cannot help but think that it would be a waste to use it as such.
Why am I thinking like this? Have you cast some sort of spell on me? Perhaps I can find a different use for it that doesn't involve hiding it away in a book...
(Captain) smiles at the girl as she ponders what to do with her gift.

2

Sylph returns to her room to find an unfamiliar object on her desk.
Is this... a letter? It appears to be from (Captain).
An invitation to a tea party... Perhaps in return for the jam I gifted previously.
The venue is a garden with a view of a field of flowers, and the menu features flower-scented tea, as well as scones to go with the rose jam...
I see. (Captain) must have prepared all this with me in mind.
As she reads through the invitation, Sylph is gradually filled with a sense of warmth.
For some reason, I find myself wanting to attend the tea party in different attire than usual.
I will speak to Vyrn and Lyria about it tomorrow.
Sylph murmurs to herself as she carefully places the invitation in a drawer.

3

You wish to thank me for Valentine's Day? I see. This is a rather large bouquet. Thank you.
Oh. There's a card attached. It says that these flowers symbolize an everlasting bond in the language of flowers...
I remember Granny telling me that people keep the language of flowers in mind when gifting bouquets.
Does this mean that you gifted these flowers knowing their meaning?
(Captain) answers with a nod.
I see. I once asked someone what love meant to them. They answered that it was an unshakeable bond.
If that's the case... Is wishing for an everlasting bond the same as wishing for everlasting love?
I'm not sure, but I would like it very much if the warmth I feel with you lasts forever.
Thank you, (Captain). Even when these flowers fade, my feelings for you never will.

(Captain) is relaxing in the parlor when a pair of hands descends from behind, and all goes dark.
Guess who.
Choose: Sylph!
Yes, you are correct.
Sight restored, (Captain) turns to see Sylph standing behind.
I am sorry. Everyone told me that I had to play a prank today, and my research told me that that was one of the basics.
But you were able to guess who I was right away. Was my prank a failure, then?
What is even considered "success" with this trick, though? Is it the covering of the eyes? And why do you even need to ask the question? I don't understand the goal of this prank at all.
And a whole day dedicated to pranks? Who came up with that?
Sylph's barrage of questions causes the both of them to sink into a sea of thought.
This does not stop either of them from gathering a fair share of sweets, however.

2

Stare...
Sylph appears in the midst of the year's Halloween party, gazing intently into (Captain)'s eyes.
Staaare...
Choose: What's up?
I'm playing a trick.
I thought long and hard, trying to formulate a prank you might enjoy that would avoid causing unnecessary trouble.
In the end, I decided that simply staring at you would be the perfect balance.
Did I... make a mistake?
Choose: Thanks.
(Captain) expresses gratitude to Sylph for participating in the Halloween festivities after giving it so much thought.
I see. Then I will do my utmost to devise a prank for next year as well.

(Captain)... The tree is all set up. We can begin decorating at any time.
Yes, I did everything. I made sure to pick the finest tree for the occasion, and I also settled the purchase. I set it up just now, and will continue to care for it.
Granny did a similar thing long ago in our neighborhood in Feendrache.
I helped her out a lot at that time, so now I am confident in my ability to do it all on my own.
My memories with Granny at that time are rushing back to me now.
(Captain), is it okay if we decorate the tree with flowers?
Granny did it, and I would like to as well.
Choose: Of course!
(Captain) nods, and tells Sylph that many other members of the crew are looking forward to decorating the tree together with them.
Yes... Together, with everyone.
The freshly decorated tree leaves everyone who attends the feast that evening with a smile.

2

Happy holidays, (Captain).
Is that a holiday present? Judging from the shape, I assume it's a book...
Yes, I understand. It's a tradition to give "good children" gifts on this night, correct?
(Captain) hands the package to Sylph with a smile.
(Captain)? I am not a child. I am a primal beast who has lived for many ages—
Choose: I wanted to make you happy.
I see. In that case, I will accept it.
Sylph takes the present and stares at it in wonder.
Thank you. I'll read it tonight and let you know my thoughts right away.

Concerning Love

During a visit to the royal capital of Feendrache, (Captain) and the crew experience a chance reunion with the primal beast Sylph. The girl has begun a new life living among the citizens of the city in an effort to learn more about what it means to "love." Sylph helps an elderly woman run her flower shop, though the proprietor soon takes seriously ill. After shedding tears over the woman's passing, Sylph asks to accompany (Captain) and the others on their journey, hoping to learn what love means to her.

The crew make a stopover at the royal capital of Feendrache in the interest of visiting their companions.
Walking down the bustling streets toward the castle, they pass by a certain shop.
Store Clerk: Welcome, child of man.
  1. Who, me?

Choose: Who, me?
Store Clerk: Yes, that's right. Are you seeking a souvenir to commemorate your time in Feendrache? Why not purchase flowers from our shop?
Store Clerk: The old woman who owns the shop says they are beautiful, though I must say that beauty is not a concept I understand.
The girl speaking to them in front of the flower shop has wings like a butterfly on her back.
As beautiful as she may be, she employs a rather plain manner of speaking that is familiar to the crew.
Lyria: Wait, could it be... Sylph?
Sylph: Yes. Hello Lyria, (Captain).
Sylph: I want to thank you again for your aid at that time.
The apparent flower shop worker is Sylph. She is not a mortal, but a primal beast.
She possesses the ability to make the miracle elixir alma, and is venerated by the people of Feendrache.
In an unfortunate crisis that subjected the realm to untold danger, it was revealed that former Royal Consul Isabella was misusing Sylph's power for nefarious purposes.
The crew put a stop to Isabella's machinations when Lyria absorbed a portion of Sylph's essence—however, Sylph was injured in the process.
Lyria: So this is where you've been! I could sense that you recovered, but I didn't know where you'd gone.
Vyrn: And boy has it been a while! Glad to see you're happy and healthy!
Sylph: A while?
Vyrn: Hm? Well yeah, a buncha time's passed since the last time we met, don't you think?
Sylph: I don't know. How much time has to pass before you can say that?
Sylph: Is it one year? Half of a year? Perhaps just two weeks?
Sylph: I would like to know exactly how long I should wait until I can say it to someone.
  1. I'm not sure...
  2. I've never thought about it before.

Choose: I'm not sure...
Choose: I've never thought about it before.
Sylph: Children of man are so strange, operating with such vague reasoning...
Vyrn: Is that how you see it? Seems just like common sense to me!
Lyria: Maybe the world looks different to primal beasts because they can live for so long.
People begin to gather around Sylph and the crew.
Weapon Shop Owner: Hahaha! Are ya bombarding these travelers with questions, Lady Sylph?
Greengrocer: Always so curious, that Lady Sylph. Please don't mind her.
Sylph: Oh, children of man. Hello.
Passerby: Hello there! You are looking lovely as always, dear.
Sylph: Lovely... Does that mean something different than "love"?
Passerby: Why yes. It means that you look cute or adorable.
Sylph: I see... In that case, what is love?
Weapon Shop Owner: Seems like I hear you ask that question every day.
Sylph: Yes, because it is the thing I desire to know about the most.
Sylph: Everyone gives me different answers, and I cannot pin it down with any certainty.
Sylph: The Sky Realm is so full of love songs and love stories, and yet...
Vyrn: "Love," huh? Doesn't it just mean that you really like someone?
Sylph: What does it mean to "like," though? Can you only really like one person? And just how much liking turns into loving?
Vyrn: Wha? Um... Well...
Passerby: Oh dear... I'm afraid that she is not going to let you go until you answer her questions.
As the crew engages in lively conversation, a figure emerges from within the flower shop.
Flower Shop Owner: I see our storefront is as lively as ever today, thanks to Lady Sylph.
Sylph: Oh, Granny! You need your sleep.
Flower Shop Owner: Now, don't fret. I just wanted some fresh air.
Flower Shop Owner: Cough, cough...
Vyrn: Granny? Hey, are you okay?
The elderly woman falls to her knees. The crew rushes over to help her up.
Greengrocer: You really must be getting your rest.
Sylph: You remember the words of the produce shop man, yes? You can leave the store to me.
Flower Shop Owner: I'm sorry for causing such worry. I couldn't help my curiosity when I heard all the talking out here.
Sylph: It's okay. Please take my arm. I will walk you back to your bed.
Sylph and the elderly woman head inside the shop.
The crew keeps an eye on the storefront while Sylph is absent.
Their business at the flower shop complete, the crew turns toward the castle once more for an audience with King Carl.
The king informs them that their knightly companions are engaged in official duties, and that meeting with them during their brief time in the kingdom will likely be difficult.
Vyrn: Oh yeah, we ran into Sylph on the way here.
Lyria: She was working at a flower shop. All of the townspeople really seem to get along with her too!
King Carl: Yes, and for that I am glad. It was quite the unthinkable prospect before.
Vyrn: She didn't have many people to interact with when she was focused on making alma, isn't that right?
King Carl: Indeed. Long ago, she did spend much of her time in the castle. Given the incident and the circumstances surrounding it, she was isolated for a while.
Lyria: It's kind of surprising to see her in the middle of town. That's a big change for her.
King Carl: Yes, and it was of her own volition.
King Carl's expression is calm as he recounts his exchanges with Sylph.
King Carl: After learning that producing alma also resulted in the harmful by-product karmide, Lady Sylph declared her intention to stop its production altogether.
King Carl: Though the alma was truly beneficial for the people of the realm, she decided that those benefits did not outweigh the severe cost of the harm caused by the poison.
The king agreed with Sylph's judgment, and pledged to establish a medical system that did not rely on the elixir.
At the same time, he felt sorry for the primal beast. She had been an important pillar of the kingdom since its foundation, but she was suddenly left without a role to fill.
King Carl: One day, not so very long ago, Lady Sylph came to the castle to request an audience.
Sylph: Your Majesty, there is something I wish to discuss with you.
King Carl: She said that she wanted to learn the meaning of "love."
Vyrn: Back to the "love" thing, huh. Why's she so adamant about that?
King Carl: Would it not perhaps have something to do with the reason that she was born?
Lyria: Her reason to be born...
Lyria recalls the moment at which she absorbed Sylph's essence. She was able to see the memories of the Astral that created her.
Lyria: That Astral fell in love with a skydweller who had an incurable disease. The Astral tried desperately to cure it.
Lyria: But the Astral failed. The Astral mourned and mourned, wondering why skydwellers were so fragile.
Lyria: After that he created Sylph in his beloved's image, because primal beasts could live forever.
Lyria: Of course the primal beast could never replace his lover.
Lyria: The Astral abandoned Sylph on Feendrache and took off toward the ends of the sky.
King Carl: That Astral created Lady Sylph to aid in healing his heartbreak over losing his lover.
King Carl: Distilled further, we might be able to say that Lady Sylph's purpose as a primal beast was to remain near and dear to the Astral's heart.
The purpose of a primal beast—the very reason for which they are given life.
King Carl: After the Astral left her here in Feendrache, could it be that her role has changed ever so slightly? Perhaps she has to remain near to someone's heart.
Vyrn: So you're saying that in order to be near to the hearts of the people, she was creating the alma for them?
King Carl nods. Stroking his beard, he speaks once more.
King Carl: Since deciding to stop her production of the alma, it could be that she now seeks another method of fulfilling her purpose.
King Carl: And for that reason, she seeks to understand the "heart" of a mortal.
Lyria: She's living among the people, trying her best to learn about love...
Vyrn: Gotcha. So that's why she was so insistent back there.
Vyrn: If she ends up quizzing us again, we'd better try to give her some good answers!
(Captain) nods in agreement at Vyrn's words.
Their audience with the king complete, the crew returns to wander the streets of the city.
They happen upon Sylph once more. This time, she emerges from a building clutching a paper bag.
Lyria: Oh, hello again, Sylph! Are you running some errands?
Sylph: Yes. I've gotten Granny's medicine from the doctor here.
Lyria: For the woman at the flower shop?
Sylph: Her lungs and heart are very weak, and she doesn't have much time left. This medicine helps with the pain.
Sylph walks along with (Captain) and the crew.
A lone butterfly flutters before the group as it makes its way toward a flower by the roadside.
Lyria: Now that I think about it, working at a flower shop is such a perfect fit for you, Sylph!
Sylph: Do you think so? I don't feel anything when I look at the flowers, though.
Vyrn: Is that right? Why make a livin' at the flower shop, then?
Sylph: I do it for Granny.
The crew is puzzled at her words. Sylph continues to speak softly.
Sylph: I made a decision to learn more about the children of man.
Sylph: The first time that I walked about the city alone, no one would approach me. It seemed as though they were actively trying to avoid me.
Vyrn: Huh? Doesn't everyone in this country adore you like you're a goddess though?
Sylph: It was for that very reason. I was a mythical existence to them.
Sylph: But Granny...
Flower Shop Owner: Good afternoon, Lady Sylph. Won't you take this?
Sylph: What is this... A bouquet of pink flowers?
Flower Shop Owner: I've chosen my best roses for you.
Sylph: Why are you doing this? Everyone else is avoiding me.
Flower Shop Owner: I simply wish to become acquainted with you! I'm sure everyone else feels the same. They're just a little nervous.
Flower Shop Owner: Won't you take them and spend a little while listening to the ramblings of an old lady?
Sylph: Oh my! I don't think I can hold them all...
Ever since then, I have been helping Granny with her shop.
Sylph: Interesting... Why do you cut the end of the stems like that?
Flower Shop Owner: The flowers will live longer this way. Would you like to try using the scissors, Lady Sylph?
Sylph: Yes...
While helping Granny, the townspeople would gather around me.
Sylph: I noticed even then that she was of poor health.
Lyria: Sylph...
Lyria approaches the primal beast and takes her hand.
Sylph: You all are making the same face that the others do when I talk about Granny.
Sylph: Strange... The children of man will all face death someday. There are those who will die today.
Lyria: But even so... No, exactly because of that, I wanted to hold your hand.
Lyria: You are my dear friend, and I know that Granny is a special person to you.
Sylph: ...
The crew say their goodbyes to Sylph upon reaching the flower shop, before heading back to their lodgings.
Sylph stirs the medicine into a cup of water, and helps the woman drink it.
Flower Shop Owner: Thank you, Lady Sylph. I know that this is quite the burden on you.
Sylph: No, it is not a burden at all.
Flower Shop Owner: Such a sweet girl. You're even taking care of the shop...
Flower Shop Owner: You have become a fine florist. No one can deny your impeccable eye for assembling the prettiest bouquets.
Sylph: I only do it like you showed me. I do not understand what makes something pretty.
Flower Shop Owner: That is quite all right. Just know that they truly are.
Sylph: ...
Lyria: You are my dear friend, and I know that Granny is a special person to you.
Sylph: Granny, what does it mean to be a "special person" to someone?
Flower Shop Owner: Hm? Well, let me see... I suppose that it means that you are loved by someone.
Sylph: Love... I don't understand...
Sylph: Vyrn says that love is when you really like someone. The greengrocer says that fruits and vegetables are love. The weapon shop man says that it's something that never changes...
Sylph: And the old housewife says that her husband getting on her nerves is also part of love. It is all extremely confusing.
Flower Shop Owner: My, you are adorable when you're flustered—
Flower Shop Owner: Cough, cough!
Sylph: ...!
Sylph supports the woman in her arms until she is able to speak again.
Sylph: Are you sure you have no need of my alma? Please don't worry about the karmide. If it's just a little bit I can manage with its disposal somehow...
Flower Shop Owner: Thank you, Lady Sylph. I appreciate the sentiment, but really, I will be okay.
Sylph: You are fading away... That is certainly not "okay."
Flower Shop Owner: Hehe, I'm touched to be on the receiving end of your concern...
Sylph: ...
Sylph is unable to say another word as she remains by the woman's side, clutching her hand.
As the sun begins to set outside the window, a murky darkness is cast across the ailing woman's face.

Concerning Life

After witnessing a shooting star one night, memories of the Astral who created Sylph come flooding back to the primal beast. She observes the Astral and a mortal girl named Sylphy watching a meteor shower together. Understanding that the Astral created her as a replacement for Sylphy, the primal beast requests that the crew help her find the location in her memory, hoping it will spark even further recollections of her own.

On one clear night, the primal beast Sylph gazes upon the night sky from the deck of the Grandcypher.
Sylph: ...
Lyria: Oh, Sylph! Have you come up to look at the stars?
Sylph: Not especially. I just needed a place to think.
Sylph: About the Astral that created me. What kind of being could he have been?
Vyrn: If I remember right, that Astral made you in the image of his deceased lover, yeah?
Sylph: Yes. My original purpose was to serve as that person's replacement near the heart of the Astral.
Sylph: And now I seek to remain near the heart of another.
Sylph places her hands above her chest as she continues to ponder her situation.
Sylph: I cannot help but wonder however, exactly why that Astral would fall in love with a mortal in the first place.
Sylph: The Astrals are immortal beings, and by all accounts are detached from the affairs of others.
Vyrn: Yeah... Loki's the only Astral I know that makes a point to socialize.
Sylph: The "love" that this Astral experienced... I wish to feel it too.
Sylph gazes into the night sky once more.
Vyrn: But you know, the Astral that Lyria saw in those memories went back beyond the ends of the sky, right?
Vyrn: His lover passed away hundreds of years ago too. You're putting yourself up to a pretty hard challenge here.
Sylph: Yes, and that is exactly why I wish to learn about the love of others.
At that moment, a streak of light glides across the sky above.
Lyria: Oh, a shooting star! So pretty!
Sylph: Is it something to get excited about?
Sylphy: How beautiful! Look how the stars shine as they fall!
Astral: It is not something to get so excited about. What you are seeing is a cyclical meteor shower. It will happen again in another seventy years.
Sylph: Wh-what did I just see...
Lyria: Sylph? Is something wrong?
A certain memory flashes through the primal beast's mind—one that she did not possess before.
Sylph: This is... a memory of the Astral who created me...
Sylph tells (Captain) and the others about what she has just seen.
Vyrn: So... That Astral was with a lady named Sylphy, and they were watching a meteor shower that takes place once every seventy years?
Sylph: Yes. I suspect that Sylphy was his lover.
Vyrn: Why would that memory suddenly spring up in you, though?
Lyria: It's likely that Sylph was created using fragments of Sylphy's memories and even her possessions.
Lyria: There may be more memories between the two sleeping deep within Sylph's heart.
Sylph: I want to find a way to view those memories. There must be other triggers I can utilize to see them.
Sylph: Perhaps if I were to go to the spot where they viewed the meteor shower...
The crew visits a library the next day in an effort to discover more about the mystery meteor shower.
Vyrn: Darn... There aren't many books or materials here covering celestial phenomena...
Lyria: How about checking through this history book? I found some passages that mention meteor showers!
Vyrn: Really? Does it bring up any with a seventy year period?
Sylph: No, I am only seeing twenty years at most.
Vyrn: No good then, eh?
Lyria: Then let's take a look at these! They're old journals written by past kings!
Sylph: ...
Vyrn: What's up? Something botherin' you?
Sylph: (Captain), you two... Why are you helping me?
Sylph: You don't stand to gain anything, even if I do find out more about the Astral...
Lyria: I'm not worried about gaining or losing anything. I simply want to help out a friend in need!
Sylph: Friend...
Vyrn: You heard her! You can count on us!
Sylph: ...
Sylph: Why have you taken me in like this? I'm just burdening you with more work.
Flower Shop Owner: Mortals are not driven simply by gains and loss, but also by love.
Sylph: (Granny also said something very similar to me.)
Thinking of her departed friend, Sylph suddenly remembers a meaningful exchange.
Sylph: (Why wouldn't Granny let me use my alma to help her?)
Sylph: (Why did she continue to be involved with the flower shop until the very end?)
Sylph: (The things I should have asked her... I wish we had more time to speak with each other...)
Though Sylph begins to feel bogged down with regret, she is soon pulled back into the task at hand.
Vyrn & Lyria: Found it!
The two let out an elated shout.
Vyrn: Finally, after all that searching! This book mentions the seventy-year meteor shower!
Sylph: Does it really? My, have you really searched through this many books?
Vyrn: Sure did! And guess what? We've identified the best island and the best time to view it—it's actually tonight! Must be fate!
Sylph: "Fate"? What is the meaning of fate?
Lyria: Um, it means that what is happening is incredibly incredible!
Sylph: I see... Incredibly incredible, was it?
Looking over the massive piles of books and materials spread across the table, a feeling of warmth wells up within her chest.
Sylph: Thank you, everyone.
(Captain) and the crew have identified the key details of the meteor shower from Sylph's memory.
Borrowing the books they need to complete their investigation, the crew returns to the Grandcypher to prepare for the trip to the island in question.

Concerning Life: Scene 2

The crew arrives at the location from Sylph's memory to find two tombstones lying side by side. The meteor shower that the Astral and Sylphy watched is a reoccurring event, and as it transpires again in the present day, Sylph is able to recall more memories of the pair. The two met by chance on this island, and after spending time together, they fell in love. However, Sylphy eventually took ill and passed away. The Astral created Sylph as a replacement, and took the primal beast to an island that Sylphy loved. Realizing that nothing was able to heal his grief, the Astral left Sylph behind as he returned to the end of the sky.

The crew are not the only ones who are aware of the impending meteor shower. A large group of people is gathered at their selected vantage point.
Lyria: There are so many people... and food stalls!
Vyrn: I guess the folks around these parts have been aware of the meteor shower for quite a while.
Sylph: ...
Sylph: I don't think... this is the place.
Sylph: It was a bit more quiet...
Vyrn: Sylph? Hey! Where do you think you're going?
Sylph suddenly takes off running in the direction of a dense forest.
The forest climbs the side of a mountain. As the girl makes her way farther up the slope, she comes to a stop in a familiar place.
Sylph: ...
Vyrn: Here? There are no trees... And you can see the sky really well.
Lyria: Oh, and look over there! Are those... stone slabs? Something is written on both of them.
Sylph: ...
Though many of the words on the stone slabs have faded with the march of time, Sylph is able to recite the passages in their entirety.
Sylph: "Sylphy sleeps here." The name of the Astral is carved into the other one.
Vyrn: Are they tombstones? Why would they be here...
As (Captain) and the crew ponder their new discovery, raucous shouts can be heard in the distance.
Lyria: The meteor shower must have started!
Sylph looks toward the sky. Streaks of twinkling brilliance are painted across the inky canvas.
Sylph: ...!
Memories of a time long past swell up from within her. Once again, she recalls exchanges from another life.
The Astral has come to the island seeking an ideal location to establish a research facility.
Astral: A meteor shower that occurs once every seventy years... The children of man gather over yonder. It must be an optimal vantage point for viewing the phenomenon.
Sylphy: Oooh?
Astral: What! You approach me again, child of man?
Sylphy: So you've found my secret hideout too! You must be pretty amazin'!
Astral: Your... secret hideout?
Sylphy: Yeah! It's the perfect place to look at the stars! I bet you came here to do the same?
Astral: Not at all. I have no time to get excited by such mundanity...
Sylphy: Yeah, whatever! Let's watch it together!
Astral: ...
Astral: (I've no intention of arguing with a child... I shall watch it for a bit.)
Sylphy: Wasn't that just wonderful? They were so pretty!
Astral: ...
Sylphy: So we can see it again in another seventy years, right? I wonder if I'll really be able to see it again, though...
Astral: It's just seventy years. I can at least be a little patient.
Sylphy: What're you talkin' about? You'll definitely be all old and wrinkly by then!
Astral: Old, you say? I will definitely not be wrinkly, however.
Sylphy: You'll be sooo wrinkly!
Astral: I will not be wrinkly.
Sylphy: Mrgh... Okay, fine then! You have to meet me here in seventy years so that we can watch the next one together. Then we'll see!
Astral: Are you proposing some sort of binding agreement... a contract? That is fine by me—however, I have my own conditions.
Astral: You seem to be quite familiar with this forest. I want you to be my guide on this island.
Sylphy: That's it? Sure, I can do that.
Sylphy: But hey! My name's not "You," it's "Sylphy"! Isn't it cute? You gotta call me by my name from now on!
Astral: I understand. Then the terms of our agreement are settled, Sylphy.
The Astral is careful not to reveal anything about his true nature to the girl. They each live and operate according to the terms of the agreement for some time.
He experiences great kindness at the hands of Sylphy's family, and finds himself participating actively as a member of the island village.
As the days turn into years, the Astral can feel certain changes from within.
The Astral's time on the island eclipses the length of ten years, and Sylphy has become an adult.
Astral: You still act the same as ever.
Sylphy: Hey, you big meanie, that's not true! I've matured in a lot of ways!
Astral: Heh, it was only a joke.
Sylphy: Geez... You've changed in a lot of ways too, you know.
Astral: Yes, I suppose you are right. Won't you be my lover?
Sylphy: Huh?
Astral: These feelings are new to me, and I wished to confess them to you on this special day.
Astral: I am prepared to do anything, and even give up anything, in order to make you happy.
Sylphy: ...!
Sylphy: Well, while I appreciate the sentiment... I already feel the same way.
However, their days of happiness are not destined to last.
Sylphy comes down with a serious disease that leaves her bedridden. Not even the power of an Astral is enough to cure her.
Astral: I'm so sorry... I am unable to grant you the happiness we both desired...
Sylphy: That is not true. You and I—we are able to gaze outside of this window together.
Sylphy: Even long ago, I've always loved the sky. Every time we visited the secret hideout, I would imagine myself sprouting wings and taking off toward the stars.
Sylphy: As long as I can be with you, my love, and as long as we can gaze upon the sky together... I'm truly happy.
Astral: Sylphy...
Astral: ...!
To grant his lover's wish of flying through the sky, the Astral constructs a flying machine for her.
The girl's family, knowing her time is short, give the Astral their blessing. The two soon depart for the skies.
Sylphy: This is incredible! We're really floating above the clouds!
Astral: We shall journey far and wide across these skies. We shall visit every island that crosses below us. And then finally, we will return to the secret hideout to watch the meteor shower.
Sylphy: Yes... Just as we promised.
Yet, it is a promise never meant to be.
The woman passes away during their journey. The Astral returns to their secret hideout to lay her to rest.
Astral: Sylphy...
Astral: You were supposed to observe my form. I was going to prove I will never become wrinkly.
The Astral's outward appearance exhibits no signs of change.
Astral: ...!
Though a pain wells up from deep within, he does not cry.
In lieu of shedding any tears, he creates the primal beast Sylph in the image of his lover in an attempt to relieve the pangs in his heart.
Astral: I shall spend my eternity on this island—a land that she grew to love so much during our journey. I will spend all of my time with Sylph.
But the gaps of loss experienced by an Astral cannot be filled by a replacement, and he returns to the end of the sky with a broken heart.
The land of fairies and dragons where Sylph is left behind would come to be known as "Feendrache."

Concerning Life: Scene 3

Sylph ponders as to why the Astral would choose to love a mortal, knowing that she would not live unto eternity with him. As the group continues to watch the meteor shower, they posit that mortal life is akin to the light from a shooting star—brilliant until it eventually fades. Sylph remembers a similar conversation she had with the flower shop owner, and comes to experience the "love" that she believes the Astral to have felt.

Sylph: ...!
As the crew gazes toward the sky in awe of a meteor shower that only takes place once every seventy years, Sylph glimpses the memories of an Astral and his lover.
The girl tells (Captain), Vyrn, and Lyria about what she saw.
Vyrn: I see... So this spot was really special to the both of them.
Sylph: I still have so many questions.
Sylph: If the Astral really did return to the end of the sky, then why is there a tombstone here engraved with his name? Did something happen to his body?
Sylph: And why... Why did he fall in love with her, despite knowing that it was a union that could not last?
Sylph: Despite any illness, she was still destined to die of old age.
Sylph: The life of a child of man... It is extinguished as quickly as the light from a shooting star.
  1. But that's what makes life beautiful.

Choose: But that's what makes life beautiful.
Sylph tilts her head in curiosity at (Captain)'s words.
Sylph: What do you mean... by that?
Vyrn: I think I get what (Captain)'s sayin'.
Vyrn: Life's fragile, and we're all gonna meet our ends someday. It's 'specially apparent to folks like us since we flit from one danger to the next.
Vyrn: We need to use the limited time we have to live life to the fullest.
Vyrn: People shine the brightest when they're full of passion, y'know? Even an Astral could fall for a person like that and forget about the day they'd hafta say goodbye.
Lyria: Just because there's an end, doesn't mean that the journey there can't be beautiful... Like a shooting star fading into the distance.
Sylph: ...!
Sylph: Strange... Why are the children of man attracted to flowers? They provide no sustenance when consumed.
Flower Shop Owner: It must be because flowers are so very beautiful.
Sylph: I don't understand... How do you judge them as a thing of beauty?
Flower Shop Owner: Oh my, now that is a difficult question.
Flower Shop Owner: But I think... it is because they eventually wither and die.
Sylph: Wither?
Flower Shop Owner: Heh... I am sure that you will come to understand it one day, Lady Sylph.
Sylph: Things that can die also possess the ability to make life shine...
Sylph: (Is that why you rejected my alma, Granny? Did you wish to be like one of the flowers you loved so dearly?)
The one who could answer these questions has already departed from this world.
Sylph: (To come to understand the fragility of life, only for that knowledge to cause me so many tears of grief...)
Sylph: (Though I may have come to understand what it means to "love," what a cruel concept it has turned out to be.)
Sylph: (I can feel my chest seize up every time I think about you.)
Somewhere inside, Sylph has come to understand "love" in much the same way as the Astral felt long ago.
Sylph gazes once more at the stars, but is unable to feel that they are beautiful.
Lyria: ...
Lyria: Sylph, won't you take my hand?
Sylph: Lyria?
Lyria takes Sylph's hand into her own, and turns to look upon the tombstones once again.
Lyria: The Astral wished only to make Sylphy happy.
Lyria: Do you think that she was happy?
Sylph: I do not know.
Lyria: I think that she was.
Lyria: She was able to spend all of her time with her lover, right up until the end of her life.
Sylph: ...
Sylph: You're right. The love that she lived... It was most complete.
Sylph: (Granny also left this world with a smile...)
Sylph: (Though I may never die, I wonder if I can spend my days with the same sense of happiness?)
Sylph makes a plea of (Captain), Vyrn, and Lyria as they gaze at the sky beside her.
Sylph: (Captain), Vyrn, Lyria... Will you remain at my side from now on?
  1. Of course!

Choose: Of course!
Vyrn: Up until the day we hafta say goodbye, we'll stick by you!
Sylph: Hm?
Lyria: The time that we spend together will never disappear. Please never forget that!
Sylph: ...!
Sylph: (I wonder... why I forgot the happy times we spent together.)
Sylph: (I see now that it was not only pain you left me with...)
The roars of the crowd grow louder as the shooting stars increase in volume and frequency.
Vyrn: This is seriously something else! Feels like I could make a million wishes right now!
Lyria: Right? They're so pretty!
Sylph: Yes, they are.
To the primal beast Sylph, the sight of a meteor shower is not nearly as wondrous as it is to her mortal friends.
Even so, this particular celestial phenomenon is one that she will never forget.

Concerning Life: Scene 4

The day after the meteor shower, Sylph begins to write a journal. She notes the strange presence of a tombstone for an immortal Astral. With a newfound interest in books and fairy tales, Sylph decides to write her own wherein the Astral returns to the Sky Realm and becomes a mortal.

On the morning after the meteor shower, Sylph puts pen to paper as she sits alone in her room at a town inn.
Sylph: These pages make for the first few of my memoir. I will be recording all of my memories here.
Her writing begins with an account of last night's events and her conclusions.
Sylph: I believe I have come to a good understanding of the "love" felt by my Astral creator, but I am still left with a multitude of questions.
Sylph: His love was fleeting, yet he chose to create an eternal primal beast such as me.
Sylph: It appears to be a contradiction, but perhaps it could be a part of his love that I have yet to understand.
Sylph: He projected his lover's longing for the skies onto me with these butterfly wings.
Sylph: Was this also an act of love?
Vyrn: Munch, munch... What's that? You've started a journal?
Sylph: Yes. I wanted to imitate Lyria.
Lyria: Yay! That makes us journal pals!
Sylph: Journal... pals? This is the first I am hearing of this expression. I'd better write it down.
Vyrn: I mean, I think she just made it up just now. It's probably not something you need to remember...
Sylph: No, it's fine. I wish to record everything.
Surrounded by newfound companions on every side, Sylph enjoys breakfast with the crew.
Though she doesn't require the nutrients provided by food, she treats the time as a precious opportunity to socialize.
After breakfast, the crew departs once more for the library, the books they must return in hand.
Sylph: Books are most strange... Did we really need to borrow this amount?
Sylph: If only death was not a reality of mortal life, it is very likely that the need to record things on paper wouldn't exist.
Vyrn: Gotten interested in books, have ya? We've got nothing in particular going on today, so why don't we spend some time browsing the aisles?
Lyria: Good idea! There were actually a few things I was in the middle of researching yesterday, too, so this will be perfect.
Vyrn: You too, Lyria? Truth be told though, I also found a picture book that tickled my fancy. The main character's an apple!
Sylph: Oh, a picture book? Those and "fairy tales" have been written about me, though I have never had the chance to open one of them myself.
Vyrn: You serious? We'll have to find one and read it together!
Sylph nods enthusiastically. The group spends the day reading fantastic stories in the library.
That night, Sylph gazes at the night sky from the deck of the Grandcypher.
Sylph: ...
Sylph: I still have so many questions.
Sylph: If the Astral really did return to the end of the sky, then why is there a tombstone here engraved with his name. Did something happen to his body?
Sylph: (I still don't know the answers to those questions, but if I were to write my own fairy tale...)
The Astral remained depressed, and left me in this realm as he departed for the end of the sky.
However, he soon remembered the happiness that he felt while spending time with Sylphy.
He decided that he wanted to live a happy and fulfilling life with the heart that Sylphy gave him.
He returned to the Sky Realm and cast away his eternal life in exchange for the life of a child of man.
To begin his new life, he returned to the place where Sylphy's family lived. He probably helped them with all sorts of things.
There were times he would laugh, and there were times he would cry... He lived his life to the fullest and grew old there.
And in the end, he made sure that he was buried next to Sylphy...
...a smile gracing his wrinkly face.
Sylph: (I wonder if this fairy tale is perhaps a little too fantastical...)
Sylph: (My purpose... It is to remain near to someone's heart.)
Sylph: (At least, that is what I truly desire it to be.)
Lyria: Ah, Sylph! Is now a bad time?
Lyria: But wait... Did I just see you smile?
Sylph: Oh, who knows?
Sylph: During what instances is it appropriate to smile? Please explain them all to me.
Sylph launches into her usual barrage of questions.
Traveling now with (Captain) and the crew, the girl will attempt to remain close to their hearts.
The tale of Sylph, the Flutterspirit of Purity, has only just begun.
