Keeper of Balance

The party runs into a mysterious girl with beautiful silver hair. Her mission is the expulsion and erasure of that which would throw the world off balance. (Captain) and company catch her attention when she finds them looking to stop the almighty primal beast Akasha. She goes by the name Zooey and asks to join the crew as one who shares common goals.


One day, (Captain) and the crew are in town for some shopping.
They finish and are about to head back to the airship when Lyria suddenly stops, tense.
Lyria: ...! I sense a primal beast... Huh? Is it a primal beast...?
Vyrn: Hm? What's got into you? What about a primal beast?
Lyria: Um, well, I thought I felt the presence of a primal beast... but maybe not...? Anyway, I know I feel something!
Lyria points toward the town's tavern. Though somewhat puzzled, the party decides to go in.
Vyrn: Oh... Wow.
Inside, (Captain) and the crew freeze, captivated by the sight in front of them.
And it's not only (Captain)—everyone in the tavern is staring at the same thing.
Silver-haired Girl: Om nom nom... Mmm... It really is very tasty, human food.
Blue Dragon: ... ...!
Silver-haired Girl: Haha, good point. It's not fair for me to enjoy this by myself. Open your mouth.
A girl with beautiful silver hair and a blue dragon seem detached from the world as they enjoy their meal.
The party watches the mysterious girl, fascinated. She notices them and smiles.

The primal beast Akasha. The party turns tense the moment the name leaves the girl's lips.

Silver-haired Girl: It's part of my mission. I am aware of all things that could possibly throw the world off balance.
Lyria: Your...mission?
Silver-haired Girl: The expulsion and erasure of that which would throw the world off balance... That is my mission.

Silver-haired Girl: Hm, what am I... I never even thought about that little detail.

The girl spoke boldly, with an air of dignity. She looks intently at (Captain).
Silver-haired Girl: Let me answer your other question. Why I was looking for you? It's simple—because I'm interested.
Silver-haired Girl: Interested in (Captain), that is. So...I want to know more about you.
Silver-haired Girl: I want you to tell me everything about you.
Zooey gazes earnestly at (Captain).
At that moment, (Captain) feels a strange sensation and shudders. It's as if this girl can see into the mind—into the very soul.
Silver-haired Girl: Yes, yes. Very interesting. So you are planning to confront that beast. What a curious human...
Silver-haired Girl: ...So I have a proposal. I too want to stop Akasha from activating.

One day, Lyria finds Zooey on the deck frolicking with the two blue dragons always by her side. Lyria asks for their names, but it turns out they had never been given one. Suggesting that simply giving them a name would provide a warm, fuzzy feeling, Zooey names them Dyrn and Lyrn. Seeing her inexperience in the ways of the world, Lyria decides to show Zooey around town for some good times.


One day, some time after Zooey's arrival, the crew finds her on the airship's deck.
Blue Dragon 1: ... ...
Zooey: Hm? You want me to play with you? Come here.
Blue Dragon 2: ... ...!
Zooey: Hey, don't tug on me like that. I'll play with you later, okay?
Zooey frolics with two blue dragons flying in the air around her.
Vyrn: You know, Miss Flippy-Hair. I've always wanted to ask you this—are those dragons your pets?
Zooey: No. My magic power exists independently from me in the form of these dragons. Normally, they completely obey me, but...
Blue Dragon 1: ... ...
One of the dragons gets playful and bites Zooey's hair.
Zooey: ...As you can see, it's hard to keep them under control when I'm in human form.
Zooey gives a wry smile, then glares at the offending dragon.
Blue Dragon 1: ...!
Frightened, the dragon abandons its mischief.
Vyrn: Haha... It looks like you have pretty good control to me.
Lyria: By the way, Zooey... What are their names?
Zooey: Names? Names... Hmm...
Vyrn: So I'm guessing they don't have names.
Zooey: Do they need them? I can tell them apart by which one has a ribbon.

And so the crew decides to take Zooey to an island with a big town.

Ally of the World: Scene 2

The crew invites Zooey out for a tour of the town, giving them the chance to show her various places and things. As they feast on their lunch, Zooey shares her concern: "People can be so warm... But learning any more about humans could end up frustrating my mission..." For them to truly understanding the meaning of those words, she invites them to come along to a certain place.


Once they arrive, they decide to start out by taking Zooey to a clothing store.
Zooey: Hmm... I see a lot of clothes on display.
Lyria: Oh, look at this one! It's so cute! See?
Zooey: Cute... Do humans usually look for cuteness when choosing clothes?
Lyria: Umm... Haha. Actually, I don't know too much about clothes, myself...
Lyria: But it's really fun to wear cute outfits and pretty dresses!
Zooey: Cute... Fun... Okay, then I'll try one on. Lyria, can you help me?
Lyria: Sure!
Next, the crew takes a look at the weapon shop.
Vyrn: Whoa! Look, (Captain)! This weapon is super awesome!
Zooey: Hmm. But it doesn't look very useful...
Vyrn: Who cares! It's all about the heroics! Don't you think it looks awesome?
Zooey: Awesome... Hmm. Well, I do feel a strange thrill of excitement when I look at it...
After the weapon shop, the party stops at a small theater to watch a puppet show.
Lyria: Hnnh... Oohhh... That was such a beautiful story...
Zooey: ...Why are you crying, Lyria?
Lyria: The story was really moving... It touched my heart.

After taking Zooey around to various establishments, the crew goes to a restaurant for lunch.

According to Zooey, the shady men guarding those cages plan on causing chaos on a global scale by unleashing the monsters on the more powerful nations. The crew challenges the shady men to battle.

The crew is puzzling over Zooey's words when a group of suspicious strangers appears, weapons in hand.
Shady Man: Who the hell are you? What do you want!
Zooey: ...They are the real danger. Their plan is to cause confusion setting the monsters loose in the more powerful nations.

Zooey promises to strike down anyone who endangers the world, even if (Captain) and company should become such a threat one day. But now knowing how warm humans can be, she rejects the notion of such a time ever coming. While not entirely resolved with her inner conflict, she decides to continue adventuring with the crew and learning more about the world.


Once the party neutralizes the monsters and the suspicious strangers, the Crew of Enforcers takes the offenders into custody.

Zooey: But most of the time, that peril comes to a natural end, or someone comes along and solves the problem.
Zooey: The reason I got personally involved this time was so I could show you—so you could understand my mission.
Vyrn: I see... Wait. Does that mean someone will stop Akasha from activating, too?
Zooey: Unfortunately, no. My presence in this world is proof of that.
Zooey: When a major crisis approaches—one that won't go away on its own, or that can't be fixed... That's when I manifest in this world.
