Center of Attention
Lately Vira had the feeling that somebody was watching her. When Vira took up her sword against some monsters that showed up, the primal beast Luminiera appeared before her. In fact, what had happened was that Lyria’s power made Luminiera serve Vira. Now that Vira had gained the divine protection of a primal beast, she became an even more valuable ally to our heroes.
Katalina: What is it, Vira? You’ve been watching your back lately it seems...
Vira: Hmm... No...
Our heroes proceeded through the forest, having been tasked with monster hunting by the Knickknack Shack.
At that time, Vira turned around and gazed intently at a space between the trees.
Vira: I have actually been feeling that funny stare for some time.
Katalina: You feel a weird gaze? Here in this forest?
Vira: No, it’s not just in the forest.
Vira: Recently, wherever I go, I feel a weird gaze upon me.
Vyrn: Hey, I thought you were tired.
Katalina: That’s right... I too have an understanding of that sort of experience.
Katalina: Sometimes in my room I felt like there was a strange gaze and someone breathing weirdly...
Katalina: But now that I think about it, I probably just felt weird because I was so busy and fatigued at the time.
Vira: Hahaha... You do have a tendency to overdo things...
Vira: Therefore I’ve taken it upon myself to watch where you closely at times like that.
Katalina: Hm? Hahaha... Thanks.
Katalina: Vira will always intervene on my behalf with uncanny timing.
Katalina: I almost get the feeling that you are monitoring my life.
Vira: Hahaha... That’s because I care about you.
Vyrn: Well, that’s Katalina for you.
Lyria: Miss Vira, you were up late last night as well...
Vira: Hahaha... I got a little too involved in working on the diary that is my hobby...
Vira: But I always stay up late like that. It’s nothing.
Vira: But make no mistake... Someone is watching me.
Lyria: Who on earth could that be?
Vira: I don’t know... But they are good at what they do.
Vira: Someone is secretly following me... I have no idea who...
Vyrn: It’s very unusual to hear that from you, Vira!
Vira: Hahaha... What do you mean...? Think carefully before you answer that.
Vyrn: Nothing! Nothing at all!
Vira: Hahaha... You crack me up, Vyrn. Though I’m relieved that I seem to be getting through to you.
Vira: Nevertheless... What kind of cretin would spy on somebody’s private life?
Katalina: No kidding... Everyone has times when they want to just be at ease and not scrutinized by others.
Katalina: Vira, if you feel like somebody in your room is watching you, come see me.
Vira: There’s no need for that.
Vyrn: Now I’m starting to feel sorry for you...
Vira: Hahaha... You’re not going to keep warning me over and over again, are you Vyrn?
Katalina: What were you two talking about a while ago?
Katalina: You two seemed to have some kind of mutual understanding going on...
Vira: ...?! Katalina! Behind you!
Katalina: What in the...
Vira: Whew... Are you all right, Katalina?
Katalina: Hahaha... But Vira, why are you...?
Lyria: Um... Eh heh heh...
Having escaped from a sticky situation, our heroes completed their mission safely and returned to the Grandcypher.
Vira: So it’s something like this?
Vira: When Miss Lyria absorbed Luminiera’s power at Albion, and rewrote the restrictions binding the Lord...
Vira: Somehow I myself became the master of Luminiera in place of the Lord of Albion...
Lyria: So it seems... Hahaha...
Vira: So it seems that the gaze I felt was Luminiera's...
Vira: What brought that on...
Vyrn: Since you now have power over Luminiera, why don’t you come with us on our journey?
Lyria: Yeah! It doesn’t look like Luminiera wants to leave you, Miss Vira!
Vira: However... He’s acting a little overly familiar...
Choose: You’re a good match
- You’re a good match
- He would just get in the way
Vira: For certain, he did serve as the Lord of Albion, even if it was only temporary...
Vira: But that was in the past, and now...Choose: He would just get in the way
Vira: E-Exactly! Having him wrap around me like this could only interfere with our journey...Continue 1
Katalina: There, there... I think it’s fine! Come with us!
Katalina: Having Luminiera wrapped around you like that would be pretty scary for our enemies...
Katalina: This will make you an even more reassuring ally than before. After all, you save my life just now...
Vira: I guess it is inevitable that you would go so far as to say that.
Vira: Will you grant me sword and shield, and serve me for now?
Vira: Well then, here’s to a great partnership, Luminiera.
Vira made a slight change in her expression towards the merry Luminiera.
The power he wielded in his reign as the Lord Commander of Albion would prove to be a great asset in the journey through the stars.
Liege of Albion
One day, Katalina and Vira receive an invitation letter for a tournament that will determine the next Lord Commander of Albion. Vira originally suggests that only she and Katalina attend, but then they decide to enter with the rest of the order when they discover that it's a team event. And so, the party heads to Albion, where the tournament will be held.
One day, Katalina and Vira gasp in surprise as they receive a letter at the Knickknack Shack.
Katalina: This is...
Vira: I see...
Vyrn: What's with the weird expressions, you two?
Vira: I don't mind the comment toward me, but how dare you say Katalina looks weird...
Katalina: Now now, don't make a big deal of it.
Katalina: Anyway... Vira, you received the same thing...?
Vira: Yes... The details might be different, but the gist of it seems to be the same.
Lyria: You both received the same letter...?
Katalina: Not a letter... but an invitation. From Albion, the place where we learned swordsmanship.
The letter contains an invitation to a tournament which will decide the new Lord Commander that will fill the now empty seat at Albion Citadel.
Vyrn: Hm? But I thought the Lord Commander was chosen from within Albion...
Vira: Yes... but it seems this time is different.
Katalina: They seem to be calling out to Albion graduates, as well as everyone else that has a connection with Albion.
Katalina: What should we do? We could ignore this invitation, but...
Vira: Yes... Personally, I think I have an obligation as the previous Lord Commander to at least show up...
Vira: How about just the two of us go to Albion...?
Katalina: Ah, well... It seems there won't be a need for that.
Katalina: This competition will be team based. It seems we can all attend as a group.
Vira: Wha...?! B-But...
Vira: I would feel guilty about everyone taking the trouble to go to Albion with us...
Vira: It may be better if it was just us two...
Choose: Let's all go together.
- Let's all go together.
- Bye then.
Katalina: Yes... This is a good opportunity. Why don't we go and test our abilities?
Katalina: Hm? What is it, Vira?
Vira: Oh, nothing... .Choose: Bye then.
Vira: Thank you, (Captain). Well then, let's start packing...
Vyrn: Hey! If we're allowed to participate, let's all go together!
Vyrn: It'll be a good way to test our abilities, and we might be able to gather information with all those people there!
Katalina: Hm... That's a good point.
Katalina: The Albion graduates are spread throughout the lands, so it will be a good opportunity for gathering information.
Vira: Tch... The lizard should have kept his mouth shut...Continue 1
Lyria: So it's decided then! Let's head to Albion!
Vyrn: Oh boy... I forgot that Albion had monsters even inside the town...
Vira: Hehe... It brings back memories.
Vira: Now, let's quickly take care of them and get the registration over with.
Liege of Albion: Scene 2
The party arrives at Castle Albion to register for the tournament which will determine the next Lord Commander of Albion. Judging from the warm welcome by the soldiers, it's clear that they still hold her in high esteem as the Lord Commander. After they confirm that they will be able to withdraw later on, the party enters the tournament to test their abilities and to liven up the show.
(Captain) and company arrive at Castle Albion to register for the tournament which will determine the next Lord Commander of Albion.
Albion Soldier: Lady Vira?! I didn't know you would grace us with your presence... Have you returned to become our Lord Commander again...?
Vira: I have no intention to do so. I will never leave Katalina's side again.
Vira: I am only participating to test our order's abilities, and to liven up the tournament.
Albion Soldier: V-Very well...
Vira: According to the rules... withdrawal from the tournament is allowed, correct?
Albion Soldier: One may withdraw from the tournament at any time, unless it's during the grand finals. After all, there are many others that are only participating to test their abilities as well.
Albion Soldier: In any case, the tournament is sure to be a hit with Lady Vira attending!
Vyrn: I didn't know you're so popular as a Lord Commander, Vira!
Vira: Although I was appointed reluctantly, it's not my nature to neglect my duties.
Katalina: About that... I'm truly sorry.
Vira: Please, Vira... Don't look so sad.
Vira: No matter how we got here, I'm with you now... That's all that matters to me.
Albion Soldier: Ah... It seems your first opponent was decided.
Vira: Hehe... Well then, let us inform the citizens of the previous Lord Commander's triumphant return!
Liege of Albion: Scene 3
The party steadily wins their matches through the tournament. As they prepare to withdraw from the tournament, (Captain)'s party finds out that they have been moved into the grand finals due to the other participants becoming injured. They later discover that it was part of a scheme by the Erste Imperial Army, who planned to take over Albion by winning the tournament. In order to protect the place which holds precious memories with Katalina, Vira and Luminiera stands to face the soldiers.
A few days later. (Captain) and company completed their matches for the day, and head to the inn from Albion Castle.
Vyrn: Hey! Maybe we can get pretty far in this tournament!
Vira: Of course. We have me and Katalina on our team, after all.
Vira: And (Captain) is quite skilled as well...
Lyria: W-What's wrong, Vira?
Vira: Nothing... I just thought I sensed menaced from somewhere...
Katalina: We were in combat just a few moments ago. Perhaps you're still a bit high-strung.
Vira: Perhaps... There doesn't seem to be any monsters around either...
Vira: In any case, I think it's time to withdraw and continue on our journey.
Vira: If we withdraw too close to the finals, it may bring down the mood of the tournament...
Katalina: You're right. I think this was enough to test our abilities...
Albion Soldier: Lady Vira! T-There's something I must tell you...!
Vira: You're in quite a hurry... What's the matter?
Albion Soldier: Well, you see... Your skyfarer order has been... moved up to the grand finals.
Katalina: What?! W-We meant to withdraw along the way...
Katalina: Wait a second! Weren't there several more matches left until the finals?
Albion Soldier: We're confused as well... The participants were injured outside of the castle and one by one, they've withdrawn from the tournament...
Vira: By the way... who is our opponent for the finals?
Albion Soldier: Well, you see...
Vira: I never would have thought I'd see you here...
Imperial Soldier: Well, this is a good opportunity... We simply need to win this match, and Albion will be ours.
Imperial Soldier: All we would need to do is place one of our own as the Lord Commander!
Vira: You may be related to Albion, but I can't believe you were allowed to participate...
Vira: I suppose you're responsible for the other attendees withdrawing as well?
Imperial Soldier: Hm? I have no idea what you're talking about. How would we know anything about the other participants getting injured?
Imperial Soldier: In any case... thanks to them, we ended up here mostly without even fighting...
Imperial Soldier: We've been lacking a bit of exercise... I won't be going easy on you...!
Vira: The size of the Erste Empire honestly doesn't interest me in the slightest...
Vira: However, Albion is where my relationship with Katalina began...
Vira: And here is where we endured hard work together and deepened our bond...
Vira: I'm sorry, but I can't give this precious place to depraved men such as yourselves.
Imperial Soldier: Tsk, impudent girl... I don't care if you were the previous Lord Commander, I'll crush you right here...!
Vira: You may try... but know that you're not facing a mere girl.
Vira: You will experience firsthand the power of I, Vira Lillie, and the guardian Luminiera!!
Liege of Albion: Scene 4
As the crowd wildly cheers for Katalina and Vira, they reminisce about the events from 6 years ago. Katalina draws her sword in response to Vira's request to for an all-out duel, but Vira laughs and tells her she was joking. The party is taken aback by Vira, who says she was satisfied to see Katalina's serious expression, but they continue on with their journey.
(Captain) and company defeated the imperial soldiers and thwarts their plans.
(Captain) and company receive uproarious cheers and applause.
Vira: Albion was just in danger of being taken over... There are more important matters at hand.
Vyrn: I always thought there's something odd about the folks of this town...
Vira: Katalina...? Is something the matter?
Katalina: Oh, no... I was just reminded of something.
Katalina: This atmosphere, this smell, this applause... It's all the same as 6 years ago...
Vira: ... Yes... Hehe, you're right...
Vira: Katalina. To tell you the truth, I have one regret.
Katalina: Hm? What's the matter?
Vira: Six years ago, when we battled for the spot of Lord Commander... I told you I had no regrets about our match that day.
Vira: However... There's one thing that's always been on my mind.
Vira: I wanted to fight you without holding anything back...
Vira: Not as the Vira Lillie that regards you with such love and respect, but as a knight.
Vira: And I also think... if I had beaten you down so convincingly that you were unable to recover...
Vira: Perhaps you never would have left my side.
Vira: What do you think? Would you like to settle the battle that we couldn't 6 years ago... Right here and right now?
Vyrn: H-Hey... What are you...
Katalina: Vira... If that is your wish, I will oblige.
Vyrn: Oi! Katalina, you, too?!
Katalina: (Captain)... If something happens to me, I want you to take care of Lyria.
Vira: Heh, hehe... hehehehe... It was a joke, Katalina...
Vira: I wouldn't be able to fight you without holding back...
Vira: Of course not... You're the person I fell for.
Katalina: I-Is that so?
Vira: It is. We may not have fought each other...
Vira: But the look in your eyes when you gripped your sword to face me... It gave me shivers...
Vyrn: Oh boy... As usual, I can never tell what Vira's thinking!
Vira: Hehe... I'm only thinking about Katalina at all times.
And so, the matter at Albion once again comes to an end.
The next day, (Captain) and company receives news that the tournament that will decide the next Lord Commander will be re-opened.
(Captain)'s party senses something deep within Vira's eyes, but continues to journey alongside her.
Vira and Luminiera accompany the crew on their latest mission. While exploring a cave, Lyria is attacked, but Vira takes the brunt of the damage. Vira suffers minor injuries but shows no concern, since Lyria is completely unharmed. Katalina becomes worried, and asks that Vira take better care of herself. Katalina then goes into battle with oncoming monsters.
With Luminiera in tow, Vira continues to be a part of (Captain)'s crew.
One day, the crew takes on a request to explore a cave. They head through the forest toward their destination.
Vira: Katalina, this way, please. Just so you know, I have gone ahead and taken care of the insects in this area.
Katalina: Oh, thank you Vira. That's very kind of you.
Vira: Come now... There's no need to thank me.
Vira: It is my duty to remove anything that might disturb you.
Vira: Of course... That is not to say that I wouldn't enjoy hearing your... adorable screams...
Vira: Uh, but... I suppose you wouldn't want the crew to hear you making such... unladylike sounds...
Katalina: Hmm? What's the matter, Vira? You stopped all of a sudden. Is something wrong?
Vira: No... It's nothing.
Vyrn: Well... Looks like Vira's at her best as always...
Lyria: Y-yeah... It sure is great seeing her in such high spirits, isn't it, (Captain)?
Choose: Usually happy is usually good.
- Usually happy is usually good.
- I'm not so sure about that...
Lyria: You're so right! It's always best when everyone is feeling their best!Choose: I'm not so sure about that...
Vyrn: Yeah, exactly... But the girl in question doesn't seem to care...Continue 1
Katalina: Hey you two, what's going on back there? You guys keep stopping all the time.
Lyria: Hey, wait up! Let's go, Vyrn! You too, (Captain)!
(Captain) runs to catch up with Katalina and company. Together, they make their way toward the cave.
Skyfarer 1: Alright, they're here. We better get moving.
Skyfarer 2: Wait a minute... Are you sure she's the right one?
???: Yes... though her looks may deceive you. Be sure to stay on your guard.
Vira: It's so dark and gloomy... Clearly, there must be monsters inside.
Katalina: But the cave doesn't seem to be that deep, so we should be finished exploring in no time.
Vyrn: Hey guys! Let's make this quick and get some grub. You're hungry too, aren't ya, Lyria? ...Lyria?
(Captain) and company look around and spot Lyria standing motionless in front of the cave.
Katalina: Lyria, are you okay?
Lyria: This cave, it's so scary... It looks like a ghost might fly right out of it...
Vira: Hah... Dear Lyria...
Vira rolls her eyes and laughs. She walks up to Lyria and takes her by the hand, when suddenly...
Being the closest to Lyria, Vira stands in front of her and bravely protects her from the monster's attack.
After taking the brunt of the attack, Vira equips Luminiera and prepares to counterattack.
Vira: Hmph... Lyria, you're not hurt, are you?
Lyria: No, I'm fine, thanks to you... Vira... Vira! You're bleeding!
Vira: What? Oh... It is nothing more than a scratch.
Vira then begins to wipe the blood from her wounds.
Katalina: Are you two alright? Lyria? Vira?
Lyria: Katalina! I'm okay, but Vira, she's...
Vira: Hah-hah... Please do not be concerned. Just some minor scrapes here and there...
Katalina: But I am concerned!
Katalina: Uh, sorry, nevermind... Vira, are you sure those cuts aren't too deep?
Vira: Y-yes... And fortunately, Lyria seems to be completely unharmed...
Katalina: I'm not worried about her... The one I'm worried about is you, Vira.
Katalina: Of course I care about Lyria, but... I could never live without you either, Vira.
Katalina: I owe you a debt of gratitude for protecting Lyria, but...
Katalina: Can you try to take better care of yourself?
Vyrn: H-hey! That thing from before, there are more where that came from!
Katalina: That first one was nothing, but this will be different...
Katalina: I'll take care of them! Watch this, (Captain)!
Innocent Confusion: Scene 2
Vira begins acting strangely after Katalina shows concern for her. While Vira struggles to come to terms with newfound feelings, knights from Albion arrive on the scene. The knights demand that she give back Luminiera, but since Vira has become its master, she chooses to keep it instead. Unwilling to leave empty-handed, the knights call in a crew to attack.
Vira: ...! Katalina...
Katalina: Was that the last of them?
Vira: Y-yes... It seems so...
Katalina: I see... I guess you took care of most of them, didn't you?
Katalina: Thank you. I know it's what you always do, but your swordsmanship was... impressive.
Vira: N-no... It was the least I could do...
And with that, Vira quickly runs out of Katalina's sight.
Vira: Gyah... Hah... hah...
Vira: Why do I...
Vira: (I can't even look her in the eye...)
Vira: (When I'm by her side, why do I get these feelings in my chest...?)
Vira: (It was never... like this... before...)
Katalina: Vira! Are you alright? You're looking a little flushed. Did one of those monsters...
Vyrn: What the... Vira, did something happen?
Katalina: No... I don't think so...
Vira: (It's so weird... It's so weird... What is going on! Why did I run away from her?)
Vira: (Katalina was so worried about me... and she was so close, and...)
Unable to find the words, Vira clutches her head.
Vira: (Calm down... What are you so worried about?)
Vira: (It's not as if your feelings for Katalina have changed.)
Vira: (I want to know her more... I want to see her more... I want her all to myself...)
Vira: (But more importantly...)
Vira: (She was thinking of me... And that... that...)
Vira: (What happened... What is happening to me...?)
???: Well well... Don't you look like a lovestruck little girl...
???: That's not very becoming of you... Lady Vira.
Vira: Albion soldiers... What is the meaning of this?
Vira: I have already announced that I will not be returning to Albion.
Albion Soldier: Yes... And that, Vira, is precisely why we have followed you here.
Albion Soldier: The primal beast you carry... Luminiera... Would you be so kind as to return it to us?
Albion Soldier: It was never yours to begin with. It belongs to us.
Albion Soldier: We don't know how you brought it here, but since it is Albion's primal beast, we would like you to return it.
Looking at Luminiera, Vira lets out a deep breath. She then begins to focus on her breathing.
Vira: It is just as you say... Luminiera... belongs to the knights of Albion.
Albion Soldier: Precisely... We appreciate your understanding, Lady Vira.
Albion Soldier: So, if we could have Luminiera back now...
Vira: However... Just as knights are sworn to protect their master, a master has the responsibility to protect its knights...
Vira: Luminiera left Albion of its own will, and it recognizes me as its master.
Vira: Luminiera is my knight. It is my sword and my shield. And it has dedicated itself to me.
Vira: And as its master, I must fulfill my responsibilities to it.
Albion Soldier: You mean... You're not going to fight back?
Vira: Being a man of Albion, I do believe you understand the importance of our relationship.
Albion Soldier: Yes, of course...
Albion Soldier: However, what you said only holds true if Luminiera regards you as its master.
As the men look at each other, Luminiera suddenly rushes to Vira, as if trying to stay away from the knights.
Albion Soldier: ...
Lyria: Haha... Luminiera really likes you, Vira.
Katalina: It might not be our place to speak, but...
Katalina: The answer here is clear. I'm very sorry, Sir Knights, but we must ask you to leave.
Albion Soldier: Perhaps there has been a misunderstanding... We haven't come to ask who Luminiera's master is.
Albion Soldier: We are aware of who owns Luminiera, and we have come to retrieve it!
Albion Soldier: Skyfarers! Time to earn your keep! Take back Luminiera by whatever means necessary!
Signaled by the knights, a crew emerges from the shadows.
Vyrn: Tch... They talk crap and then they threaten us, but they've been ready to fight this whole time!
Vira: No... I cannot help but think they are completely unprepared...
Vira: If that is all you have, then your threats are... laughable.
Luminiera: —! —!
Vira: Now I will show you what you're up against... I will show you the power of the Astral Knights!
Innocent Confusion: Scene 3
After (Captain) and company get rid of the enemy crew, the knights reveal that they have collected magic residue from the town and created a clone of Luminiera. They unveil the clone, and in response, Vira explains to them that a sword is only as good as its master. Vira then prepares to battle them once more.
After getting rid of the enemy crew, (Captain) and company approach the men from Albion.
Vira: Well then... Would you be so kind as to leave now?
Albion Soldier: Urgh...
Albion Soldier: I didn't want to do this... But to get Luminiera, it seems we have no choice.
Vyrn: H-hey! They've got something up their sleeves!
Lyria: I can sense... the power of a primal beast.
Katalina: A primal beast...? You mean, Albion has another one...?
Vira: No, Katalina... Not as far as I know as former Lord Commander...
Albion Soldier: That is true. However, since Luminiera has been deeply rooted in Albion for so long...
Albion Soldier: Its powerful residue is easy to get a hold of!
Vira: Is that... Luminiera?
Albion Soldier: Unfortunately, it is merely a clone...
Albion Soldier: We brought it to life by gathering Luminiera's residue from all over the town and imbuing it with magic.
Albion Soldier: Though it can hardly be used as a knight of the primal beasts... It can still be used as a primal beast.
Katalina: Could it be? Is it possible to use the residue and...
Albion Soldier: Hmm...? You... Weren't you also... a graduate of the academy?
Albion Soldier: She might be, but if she's allowing them to take Luminiera...
Albion Soldier: Then she is a disgrace to Albion. We should get rid of both of them here and now...
Vira: Pardon me, but... Would you avoid speaking of things that you cannot accomplish?
Albion Soldier: What did you say?
Vira: Even if you did obtain the real Luminiera again, you would be unable to wield its true power.
Vira: Luminiera... When used as a sword and a shield, its true power shines through.
Vira: However, a sword by itself is worthless. It has no power on its own.
Vira: Its true power is realized in the hand of a trained warrior.
Albion Soldier: ...
Vira: And... If you intend to harm not only me, but Katalina as well, then...
Vira: I will set all reasoning aside, and I will eliminate you.
Vira: That is what I am prepared to do. That is what you are up against. Please... Prepare yourselves.
Innocent Confusion: Scene 4
Vira destroys the clone of Luminiera. Becoming desperate, the knights reach out to Katalina for help. Vira reacts and fuses deeper with Luminiera. She tells the knights they will suffer if they try to get Katalina involved. The knights run away, and Vira's bond with Luminiera grows deeper, but it begins to affect her in ways unforeseeable.
Albion Soldier: Impossible...
Unleashing the power of the true Luminiera, Vira swiftly obliterates the clone.
Placing her sword on the knight's neck, Vira coldly gives her final warning.
Vira: Now... Please be on your way. I have no intention of taking your life.
Albion Soldier: You...!
Albion Soldier: Hey, you! You went to the academy, didn't you?
Katalina: Why yes... I did, but...
Albion Soldier: Luminiera must remain in Albion where it belongs. Don't you agree?
Albion Soldier: Help us! It is your duty to return Luminiera...
Albion Soldier: Ah!
With a swing of her blade, Vira grazes the knight's helmet.
Vira: As Luminiera's master, if you come after me, I will gladly fight you as many times as you wish.
Vira: But... If you try to bring Katalina into this...
Vira: Be prepared to face the consequences.
Albion Soldier: Ahhh—!
Vyrn: Wow... He sure left in a hurry.
Katalina: Yeah, but Vira... What is that you're wearing?
Vira: Ahh... Katalina... What do you think? Does this armor... look good on me?
Katalina: Uh, yeah...
Lyria: Luminiera responded to your emotions, didn't it?
Vira: Hahaha... Yes, it would seem so. And we have become more powerful than ever before...
Vira: What was that...?
With the will to protect those dearest to her, Vira has obtained greater power.
But as her bond with Luminiera grows deeper, it begins to affect her in ways that not even Vira could have foreseen...
Regrets and Desires
Ever since their mission in the cave, Vira has been unable to approach Katalina in the same way. Vira's deeper fusion with Luminiera has caused her feelings for Katalina to erupt, but her newfound power draws monsters to the ship.
Having finished the cave-exploration mission, the crew is heading back to report.
Vira stands all alone on the ship, away from Katalina. She sighs deeply as she gazes up at the sky.
Vira: (Ever since then...)
Vira: (Ever since we went exploring in that cave, something within me has changed.)
Vira: (Watching Katalina's every movement just doesn't satisfy me anymore.)
Vira: (And yet my heart beats harder than ever whenever I see her.)
Vira: (I want to be with her so much, yet I feel compelled to run when she's near. Oh, the agony of it all.)
Vira: (What is it that I seek?)
Vira: (Which reminds me... When the appearance of my Luminiera form changed that time...)
Vira: (My heart beat more strongly than ever for Katalina, almost as if Luminiera was resonating with me.)
Vira: Could it be?
Vira: Luminiera, do you actually know how this feels? This emotion...
Vira reaches out to the primal beast. Luminiera responds by intertwining around Vira's arms, enveloping her in light.
Vira: (The pounding in my chest... And as Luminiera resonates with my emotions, my affection for Katalina really does grow.)
Vira: (But that's not all...)
Vira: (What am I seeing? And it feels like someone else's emotions are rushing into me.)
Vira: (Is this regret? But whose?)
Vyrn: Hey, get up! What're you doing?
Vira looks up and finds herself surrounded by monsters on the deck of the airship.
Lyria: I can only guess that the monsters are attracted to Luminiera's power.
Katalina: Vira, stay put! I'm coming to help!
Vira: Hee-hee... That won't be necessary, Katalina.
Vira: Monsters of the sky can amass by the thousands or even the millions, but they'll never reach the stars.
Vira: The denizens of the sky must be taught that even reaching for the stars is a grave sin.
Vyrn: Um... Does she seem a bit off to anyone else?
Vira: Hee-hee... Ha-ha-ha! Try as you will, it always ends the same!
Vira: I'll teach you lowly sky crawlers the folly of taking up arms against the stars!
Regrets and Desires: Scene 2
Vira's fusion with Luminiera affects her so profoundly that Lyria senses only primal beast energy from her. Vira rampages and prepares to attack the crew, but Katalina stops her, causing her to unleash her emotions on the monsters before her.
Vira: Hee-hee... Ha-ha-ha!
Vyrn: She's laughing and fighting at the same time...
Katalina: Well actually, Vira always did have that side of her...
Katalina: But something does seem off about her...
Lyria: I can feel the essence of a primal beast within her...
Vyrn: Well, that's only natural considering she's in her Luminiera form right now...
Lyria: Except... I sense nothing but primal beast.
Lyria: It's almost as if... she's turned into a primal beast herself...
Vira does not merely drive off the swarm of monsters. She cuts down every last one.
But even after the fight, she keeps her sword raised and surveys her surroundings with eyes devoid of emotion.
Vira: Hee-hee... Ha-ha-ha!
Vira: One flock after another, waiting to be slaughtered.
Vira: I must finish them all off. That is the true mission of the Astrals. And I have to do it for her as well.
Vira: Oh? More skydwellers, I see.
Vira staggers toward (Captain) and company.
Katalina: Vira! Wake up! What's wrong with you?
Vira: Wake up? That's my line.
Vira: You're just another contingent of the sky forces. Why show such concern for me, an enemy?
Vyrn: An enemy? What are you saying?
Vira: If that's some new way to beg for your life, you'd best come up with something better.
Vira: But then again... I suppose you guys won't get another chance to beg!
Vira raises her sword at the puzzled crew.
Vira: Ugh... Argh!
Lyria: Vira, are you okay?
Vira moans in pain as she crouches down and clutches her head.
Vira: Katalina... What was I doing?
Katalina: Vira! Thank goodness you've recovered!
Vira: Huff... Huff... Forgive me, Katalina. For raising my sword against you.
Katalina: It's all right. More importantly, what happened to you? How did this all come about?
Vyrn: Oh no, the monsters are swarming again!
Vira: Hee-hee... Just perfect.
Katalina: Vira, don't overdo it! Fall back!
Vira: No... No, Katalina. I feel incredible right now.
Vira: The power surges within my body, growing fuller from limb to limb.
Vira: I must do something about this intense passion building up within me.
Vira: If you refuse to let me take on these monsters...
Vira: Will you offer me the release I crave, Katalina?
Vira: I'm getting so hot that I can't help myself...
Vira: So let me unleash my passion... through this sword!
Regrets and Desires: Scene 3
Vira loses consciousness as a result of fusing with Luminiera and dreams of the War and the beast's former master, who also had romantic feelings for a superior. As Vira relives that person's regrets, she battles monsters sent by the skydwellers.
Vira: Huff... Huff...
Thanks in part to Vira, the crew eliminates another swarm of monsters.
Katalina: Vira... You really don't seem like yourself. I suggest you get some rest at once.
Katalina: Can you walk? Please lean on me if you need to.
Katalina takes Vira by the hand and peers at her face.
Vira: Oh... Katalina...
Katalina: Vira? Vira! Pull yourself together! Vira!
Vira: Huff... Huff... Where am I?
Vira looks around and sees soldiers collapsed on a vast expanse of grassland.
Vira: (There are so many... It's as if we're in the middle of a war.)
Shadows loom on the horizon. Vira looks toward the sky to find giant primal beasts.
Vira: (Are those... primal beasts?)
The primal beasts fly over her and head towards a crowd in the distance.
A huge burst of flames explodes through the crowd, causing people to fall left and right.
Vira: (The primal beasts are fighting? An entire legion of them waging war with people?)
The battle unfolding before Vira closely resembles a war she once learned about.
Vira: (The War... The conflict between the Astrals controlling the primal beasts and the skydwellers who hoped to take back their world.)
Vira: (Is that what I'm looking at? But the War ended centuries ago.)
Vira: (Impossible... How could I be here?)
Vira glances at her own two hands and sees that she's still in Luminiera form.
Vira: (Is this a dream?)
Vira: (What I'm seeing here seems to be a memory of Luminiera herself.)
Vira: (Or perhaps I'm experiencing the memories of one who once formed a pact with Luminiera.)
Vira: (Maybe strengthening my bond with Luminiera has caused this blending of memories and consciousness...)
Just as she grasps the situation at hand, a familiar voice calls out behind her.
???: My knight...
Vira: (Impossible... What's she doing here in the midst of the War?)
???: Huh? Can you hear me, astral knight?
???: I see that you were counting the comrades we've lost.
???: The situation does indeed grow worse with each passing hour.
???: But even so, as your commander, I cannot order you to pull back.
???: Your ability to use Luminiera's power as your own makes you invaluable on the front lines.
???: I know it's tough, but I need you to hold out a bit longer.
Vira: (This memory must belong to Luminiera's previous master.)
Vira: (But I'm seeing it as my dream, which is why people like Katalina are showing up.)
Vira: (Still, this rush of excitement that fills my chest...)
Vira: (It's the same feeling I get when thinking about Katalina.)
Vira: (Could it be that the keeper of these memories bore similar feelings towards a commanding officer?)
???: Tch... Looks like they've brought out the big monsters.
???: The other primal beasts can't maneuver well enough for this. Can I count on you, my astral knight?
Vira: (Two emotions stir within me...)
Vira: (One is pure infatuation. My heart desires to spend every possible second with her.)
Vira: (I can't bear to be away from her, not on this carnage-filled battlefield.)
Vira: (The other is the desire to wield my strength for her.)
Vira: (Nothing else matters. I'm ready to sacrifice everything for you, my dear.)
???: I can count on you, right?
Vira: Of course. My sword exists solely to serve you.
Vira: This child's play the sky rabble throws at us stands no chance against the might of Luminiera!
Regrets and Desires: Scene 4
As the dream continues, Vira strikes down the monsters, but her superior ends up sustaining a fatal blow. Vira awakens in tears and decides that Luminiera showed her that memory to prevent her from ever experiencing the same thing with Katalina.
Vira: Huff.. Huff... Is that the end of it?
Catching her breath, Vira looks at her sword.
Vira: (Each time I swing my sword and look death in the eye, my feelings for her grow stronger.)
Vira: (And my fear grows stronger as well. My fear of losing her and never again being by her side...)
Vira: I can't hold it back any longer.
Having made up her mind, Vira runs towards her one and only with a restless heart.
A tragic sight awaits her. She returns to find the main camp destroyed and her beloved collapsed in agony.
Vira takes the hand of her suffering beloved.
Vira: Sob... Thank goodness you're still alive...
???: Not for long. You know, I came here hoping to live out the rest of my days in the sky.
???: Huff... Huff... But who could have imagined this war would break out?
???: Forgive me. You've always fulfilled your duties as my knight, but it seems I've failed you as a commander.
???: I... hereby relinquish command of the front lines to you.
Vira: No, wait! This can't be...
???: I'm sure you can handle it. The fate of the skies and stars is in your hands now.
Her strength exhausted, she slowly closes her eyes.
Vira cradles the body, only to find it as heavy and cold as if it had never been alive.
Vira: This isn't happening. I refuse to believe it.
Vira: No... Open your eyes! Please!
Vira: Sob... Please... Be with me just one last time.
Katalina: Vira! Thank goodness you're okay. Are you feeling better now?
Vira: Where are we?
Katalina: We're on the Grandcypher. You suddenly fainted on the deck.
Katalina wipes away Vira's tears, apparently surprised by them.
Katalina: Were you having a bad dream?
Vira: No... It's nothing, Katalina.
Vira looks around to find the primal beast Luminiera by her side.
Vira: (You showed me that dream, didn't you? In hopes that I'll never have to experience the same regret.)
Vira steadies her breathing upon seeing Luminiera's slight nod.
Vira: Katalina, there's something I have to tell you.
Katalina: Huh? What's wrong? You're being awfully serious.
Vira: I... Katalina, I...
The girl delves into her own heart, reconfirming her feelings of affection.
She takes a step that everyone must take in their life, and with it grows even stronger.
