A mysterious beauty who suddenly appears before you during your travels, Rosetta seems to know the truth about many mysteries pertinent to your quest. Despite that, she often speaks in generalities and largely acts as a mere bystander. Under her exterior, Rosetta is the incarnation of the primal beast Rose Queen, and is in contact with both you and the Black Knight. Aware but not accepting of the Black Knight's intentions, she acts according to her own beliefs to guide you.

Happy Birthday Cutscenes
# Link Text
1

Many happy returns. It is your birthday, isn't it?
You're one step closer to adulthood.
My birthday? Hehe, well that's a secret.

2

When flowers bloom gloriously in spring, it's because they've survived the frigid chill of winter.
Covered by layers of cold snow, flowers are unable to know what's ahead, leaving them only in darkness.
But without worry and hardship, a beautiful flower will never bloom.
Hehe. When you bloom into the beautiful person you're meant to be, it will have been a long time coming.
But I know that you will be the most beautiful flower of all.

3

Hehe. What's wrong? Why the face?
Yes... It'll be a while until we get where we need to go.
But come on... Laugh a little.
Yes, like that. The flower inside you has yet to blossom.
But don't worry. You've overcome so many hardships that your flowering is soon to come.
Brave yourself for Estalucia. (Captain), the road ahead will require time to navigate, but we're steadily moving along.
Not just me, but Lyria, Vyrn, Katalina, Rackam, Io, Eugen... We're all here for you.
With all of these friends supporting you, there's nothing to fear.
We'll always be there for you.
A birthday is an important milestone. Once you've composed yourself, let's celebrate.
Look. Everyone's prepared a party, and they're waiting just for you.

4

Today marks a great point in your life, (Captain).
This day celebrates when you came into the world. Only a handful of years have passed since that time.
What have you learned, who have you met, what have you done?
(Captain), this day is one to honor the growth you've made. That is the meaning of a birthday.
So happy birthday, (Captain).
Even if you don't know how much you've changed, I do. After all, I've been by your side all this time.
And I will continue to do so for as long as I live.

5

Happy birthday, (Captain).
Today's a special day—not only for you, but for me as well.
To live is an accumulation of moments. To have an infinite collection of single moments, and letting it grow bigger and bigger like the rings of a tree...
The time you spend with me becomes a part of you. That makes me very glad.
There must be meaning to our encounters in life.
Let's treasure these encounters. I'm looking forward to spending more time with you, (Captain).

Happy New Year Cutscenes
# Link Text
1

So another year has begun.
I wonder what kind of year this one will be.

2

(Captain), happy New Year! Have you already decided what your resolution will be?
If you just keep your goal in mind, then you can easily strive to attain it.
I suppose you could think of it like putting a support on a plant.
Even without one it will still grow. But with one it will grow majestically.
Hehe. Since it's the beginning of a new year, I thought I'd give you something interesting to think about.

3

Hehe. Look at that face. (Captain), you're like a fine wine that gets better with time. I really believe that.
You know... The road ahead will only grow more perilous.
But you'll get through it. I'll make sure of that.
What? Is that a hard pill for you to swallow?
Hehe. I suppose it would be... No one can blame you.
Yet, I... No... We're sure.
(Captain), no matter where life tries to take you, I know you'll make your own path.

4

(Captain), happy New Year.
Oh, you look tired. Hehe. Did you stay up late yesterday?
You know what they say about starting the new year in poor form; the remainder will follow suit.
No matter what you do, no matter how well you prepare for the days to come, time will just pass you by...
And then it will be the next year before you know it.
It's all right to indulge yourself every now and again, but I don't think you'll be able to be productive if you get sleepy by midday.
Let's make sure we bring out the best in one another this year, okay, (Captain)?

5

Happy New Year, (Captain).
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the start of a new one make you feel like you can accomplish anything you put your mind to?
Well, it's not just a feeling. Not in your case at least.
You've got so much hidden potential within you.
So don't be afraid to try whatever you like. It'll be good to expand your horizons.
I'll be watching over you every step of the way, just as I do every year.
Hehe, I’m looking forward to seeing you grow stronger and wiser as we enjoy another round of new adventures.

Valentine's Day Cutscenes

1

Happy Valentine's Day.
What, are you expecting chocolate from me? Hehe. Whatever will I do now?
Maybe instead of chocolate, I could give you something even better.

2

Hehe. You want chocolate that badly, do you? Or maybe you want something else...
Maybe there's something out there that's better than chocolate...
No, Captain. You shouldn't long after such things. You'll leave your heart exposed!
And you certainly won't get anything good if you can't ask nicely for it.
So until then, here. Have some tasty little chocolates.

3

(Captain), I finally found you! You've been so busy with all the girls stealing you away.
Which means... you probably won't be able to appreciate the chocolate I want to give you.
Really? You sure you want it from me? What to do... Maybe I'll give it to someone else.
Hehe. Just kidding. This chocolate belongs to you.
Happy Valentine's Day! Eat it all up.

4

(Captain), here are your chocolates. Happy Valentine's Day.
Hmm... I guess just giving you your chocolates wouldn't be very fun, would it?
I mean, you've already got so many from other girls, right?
I know what I can do to stand out! I'll watch you eat! Right here, right now! Take a bite. Let me know what you think of these.
Hehe. I'll even do something else. I'll feed them to you.
Okay... Open up.
Hehehe. You like that?

5

What's this? Shouldn't you be somewhere else, basking in your own popularity?
Or have you had enough chocolate from the other crew members?
That's quite the pile you've got. I'm feeling a bit jealous just from looking at it.
Hehe, but of course I don't plan on giving up without a fight.
Here you are. Happy Valentine's Day.
Now open wide and have a taste of my love-filled chocolate.

1

Oh my... A White Day present for me? Thank you, (Captain). How darling of you.
But don't you know? You're supposed to give something three times bigger than what you got for Valentine's.
Hehehe... So what are you going to do now? Are you going to make up the rest to me somehow? Perhaps some type of payment could suffice...
Hehe. I'm kidding, of course. No need to fret. Oh, have I gotten you all excited now?

2

Oh... For me? Why, thank you, (Captain).
Hehe. You look so happy, even though I'm the one getting the present.
You truly are adorable.
With a face like that, you're sure to make others happy too. But then they'll want to look at you more!
Well, I suppose this means you can look forward to Valentine's Day again next year.
Hehe. Learning to enjoy the wait is something adults do, you know.

3

Hehe. Thank you, (Captain). Getting a gift from you warms me right up.
It's true. It's like you've stolen my heart with your small token of appreciation.
You really have a knack for putting people at ease, (Captain).
That's a quality that can't be learned. It's innate. You shine as the sun does...
Will you continue to light our way on this journey?
Hehe. Pinky swear, okay?

4

Oh my, looks like I've been found.
Hehe. That's right. I was hiding this whole time.
I knew you would find me no matter how long it took you, (Captain).
What?
Why would I hide? You mean you don't know? Some things never change...
I wanted you to come look for me! I needed you to put in the work.
Hehe. You still have much to learn about me and our relationship.
But thank you for looking. I'm glad you found me, and I'm happy to receive a present from you.

5

Thank you, (Captain). This is my White Day gift, isn't it? I'm happy to receive it.
I have to say you're a bit late though. Did you give everyone else their presents first?
I see... I suppose I wasn't as high of a priority then.
Hehe, I'm sorry. I couldn't help but play a little joke on you.
You were more panicked than I expected you to be. Are you that concerned with being in my good graces?
Hehe, what a wonderfully rare sight it was. I almost feel like boasting a bit to my fellow crew members.
Or maybe I won't. Relax. It'll be a secret between only the two of us.
I'm not that fond of sharing, after all.

Trick or Treat Cutscenes

1

Trick or treat!
So which do you prefer? Tricks or treats?
Now, now, there's no way you'll be able to play a trick on me! You're still far too young!

2

Oh? What are you doing, (Captain)?
Heh heh, it's a shame really. You're a little young for some of my Halloween pranks...
Although... Yes, that's right.
I suppose it should be all right if I play a little prank on you.
What kind of mischief strikes your fancy? Something scary? Or perhaps...

3

Everyone's having such a good time running from place to place. Even if you're an adult, it's okay to have a little fun on Halloween, right?
I can't be expected to just give my goodies away, can I? I want to really enjoy this day.
Hehe. It'd be a shame to let this day go to waste, so maybe I'll put on a costume of my own.
I'll even let you pick what I wear.
So... are you ready to lay something on me?

4

(Captain), would you lend me an ear?
The children in town threatened me. They said if I don't give them candy, they'll play a trick on me.
Of course, I didn't have anything to give them and I didn't want them to do anything to me, so I just stood there frozen...
Then I decided to scare them myself and they ran away like little spiders.
Hehehe. I must say they were cute though.
Now I'm in the mood to scare any little child who threatens me with trick-or-treat.
Hehe... So captain, to what do I owe the honor of your presence?
That outfit and that little bucket...
There wouldn't be something you'd like to ask me, is there?
Come on... Let me have it.

5

Trick or treat! Now, (Captain), take your pick. Would you like a trick or a treat from me?
But I'll let you in on a little secret... Actually, I've already decided that I'll be playing a trick on you this year.
In other words, I didn't plan to let you pick in the first place. It's trick or trick.
Haha, you're not getting away from me...
I've been preparing for this so I can see your distraught expression, (Captain).
Well then... Wouldn't you like to know what sort of trick I've reserved just for you?

Happy Holidays Cutscenes
# Link Text
1

Happy holidays, Captain.
This is a special time of year, so let's make tonight a night we'll never forget!

2

Well now, you seem to be in good spirits, (Captain). Are you looking forward to seeing Santa?
Perhaps you think you're not a child anymore. But I think Santa will be the judge of that.
To Santa, anyone could still be a child.
Hehe. Just keep an ear out for him. His jolly laugh echoes through the snowy skies.
If you hear him, then he must be coming soon. Happy holidays!

3

(Captain), for you, what's the significance of this holiday? Is it a time to spend with a loved one? Or perhaps...
Hehe... For me, it's a day to spend with friends. Hmm... The cookies will be a while...
Would you like to take a walk with me?
Let's stroll down these dazzling streets together. I bet it'll be something you won't forget.

4

Io and the others went out. Apparently there was some event in town.
Wait... That means you and I are all alone, doesn't it?
Hehe... The holiest of nights is upon us, and it seems that my present has arrived a little early.
There's still time until the party, how about we have a nice cup of tea together?

5

Oh dear. I see you can't sleep either, (Captain).
Hehe, just remembering the wonderful party we had is enough to give me another boost of energy.
Io certainly got a little too excited, didn't she?
It didn't take long for the exhaustion to catch up to her, of course, but she looked absolutely adorable while drifting off.
I'm sure you're tired as well, but knowing you, you're forcing yourself to stay awake.
Perhaps Santa's taking a bit too long to stop by, so you decided to go seek him out instead?
Hehe, I'm only kidding. I know all too well how a festive night can keep you awake for hours.
Since we're both awake anyway, why don't we keep each other company for the rest of this short night?

Timelessly Devoted

While the crew rests on an island, Rosetta reunites with an old acquaintance. She once turned down his marriage proposal, but she accepts his second one with a suggestive smile.

Youth: I see... So you're leaving?
Rosetta: That's right. Tomorrow. How's that wound of yours?
Youth: All better! And who knows what would have happened to me without you... I can't thank you enough!
Rosetta: Don't worry about it. Just be more careful of monsters, okay? Take care.
Youth: ...
Youth: Wait! Rosetta, won't you live here with me?
Rosetta: Huh? What's this all of a sudden?
Youth: I... I mean it, Rosetta... Please, will you marry me?
Rosetta: I see... Hee-hee... I'm flattered. Thank you.
Rosetta: Oh, the boldness of youth. Still, with passion like that, I'm sure you'll find a lovely girl.
Youth: It's that skyfarer, isn't it? The one you fight alongside...
Rosetta: Oh? You think we have that kind of relationship? Well... I suppose love really is blind.
Youth: Then why? I love you, Rosetta! I truly do!
Rosetta: Love, you say...
Well then, I'd better get going. Farewell.
The crew stops on an island for a few days to rest and replenish supplies.
(Captain), Vyrn, and Rosetta are on their way back from a downtown trip for supplies.
Rosetta: Dears, would you mind if we took a little break? My throat is feeling somewhat parched.
Vyrn: But didn't we just take a break? How can you be tired again already?
Rosetta: Because I'm just a delicate young maiden. Besides, don't you want to have a little more fun on our date with (Captain)?
Vyrn: Date? What do you mean? Still, I guess we do have time, so we could stop over there...
Vyrn: Huh? Isn't that Lyria? What's she doing here?
Lyria: Um... I'm sorry, but I'm already—
Young Man: I'm begging you! Having a drink with a cute girl like you would be a dream come true for me!
Lyria: Even so, I really must go...
Young Man: It won't take long. I know a place that has the best parfait. Let me show you!
Lyria: Maybe another time. I really have to go...
Young Man: Okay, how about this? I'll treat you to a deluxe parfait! It's a little expensive, but—
Rosetta: Lyria, my dear! Is everything all right here?
Lyria: Ah!
Young Man: Um... Are you perhaps Lyria's—
Rosetta: Did I hear something about a parfait? I happen to be free—would you be so kind as to treat me to one too?
Young Man: Ha-ha... I guess so... I suppose I could get one for each of you...
Rosetta: Oh? You sound a little unsatisfied. Don't you want me to show you how the grown-ups play?
Young Man: What? Oh, I mean, of course! That sounds amazing!
Rosetta: Hee-hee... Let's go then. You can get me a parfait and some green tea.
Young Man: Yes, ma'am! I was just a little surprised. Lyria's cute and all, but I didn't expect her mother to be so beautiful.
Rosetta: What?
Young Man: Huh?
Rosetta: Mother, you say... How very hilarious you are.
Young Man: Um... Then why aren't you laughing?
Rosetta: I'm going to give you three seconds, and if you're still here after that... Well, you really don't want to find out.
Young Man: Eek! I'm sorry!
Vyrn: Wow... Don't think I've ever seen anyone run so fast...
Lyria: Phew... Thanks. You showed up just in time!
Rosetta: Don't mention it. I'm used to dealing with boys like that... Though I can't help but feel just a tad defeated.
Rosetta: Lyria, would you please come here a moment? As I thought... Silky smooth skin.
Lyria: Aahh! Stop it! That tickles!
Rosetta: And your hair flows so nicely. When you're a little older, you'll be getting marriage proposals wherever you go.
Lyria: Oh... But I'm sure you do better than I could...
Rosetta: Huh? You're wondering about little old me?
Lyria: Of course! You never talk about yourself, Rosetta!
Vyrn: Yeah! We don't even know if you're married!
Rosetta: I see... I suppose it's likely to be married at my age.
Lyria: What? Are you saying you are?
Rosetta: But if I were married, how could I travel with all of you like this?
Vyrn: You have a point... So are you married or not?
Rosetta: Haven't I told you before? Secrets make a woman that much more alluring.
Lyria: Aw... So you still won't tell us...
Boy: Um... Excuse me, but are you Rosetta?
Rosetta: Huh? I am, but how did you know?
Boy: Um... I have a letter for you! A man from the next town over asked me to give it to you.
Rosetta: A letter? Well, thank you very much.
Vyrn: Oooh, it sure is fancy-lookin'!
Rosetta: It must be a love letter of some kind, but who could it be from...
Rosetta: ...!
Lyria: What's wrong? Is it really a love letter?
Rosetta: Not exactly... But I remember now. I have been to this island before...
Rosetta: A love for the ages, it seems.
Vyrn: Huh? What does that mean?
Rosetta: Oh, nothing. I'm just going to have to visit the next town over. I apologize, but could you take this bag for me?
Lyria: Sure... See you later.
Rosetta: ...
Vyrn: Did you see that? I bet it was really a love letter! She's such a heartbreaker!
Lyria: Yeah! Though she did look a little surprised...
Vyrn: This is the chance we've been waiting for! If I tail her, we could uncover one of her secrets!
Lyria: What? I don't know if you should...
Vyrn: Ain't ya at least a little curious? She said something about a love for the ages... She must be visiting an old flame!
Lyria: Hmm... Well, that does make me curious...
Vyrn: Heh-heh... Then it's time for a little spy action!
Rosetta goes to a large mansion in the next town and meets a man she seems to know. Vyrn watches through a window...
Gentleman: Still as beautiful as ever... Truly, you haven't changed in the slightest.
Rosetta: Hee-hee... Thank you. I'm so glad I opted for this old dress when I saw your name.
Vyrn: Heh-heh... Rosetta's all dressed up. There's definitely something goin' on between her and this guy.
Gentleman: Ahh, seeing you again... I haven't felt this young in ages. I've been dreaming of this moment for years.
Rosetta: What a coincidence. I feel the same way.
Gentleman: Truly? It makes me so very glad to hear that.
Gentleman: Rosetta... I just can't seem to forget about you.
Gentleman: Since the day I last saw you, I have been trying to become a man worthy of you by building up my estate and reputation.
Gentleman: And now we are reunited. It must be fate! And so I'll ask again... Will you marry the man that I have become?
Rosetta: So all this was for me?
Rosetta: ...
Rosetta: Hee-hee... You've got me. I suppose we could get married.
Gentleman: Oh! Do you mean what I think you do?
Vyrn: What? No way! Rosetta is getting married?
Rosetta answers a second proposal from her former suitor.
Wondering if she'll really get married, the surprised Vyrn rushes off to tell the crew what he's seen.

Envy Throughout the Sky

Vyrn sees Rosetta accept the man's marriage proposal. Realizing that this means Rosetta would likely have to leave the crew, the crew rushes to the man's house to get to the bottom of things.

Rosetta: Hmm... Looks like it isn't here either.
Rosetta: Now I'm really starting to worry... I wonder where it could have gone.
???: ...
Rosetta: Oh, leaving already? I understand.
Rosetta: ...
Vyrn reports what he learned at the nearby mansion about Rosetta's marriage plans to (Captain) and the others.
Lyria: A proposal? To Rosetta?
Vyrn: Yeah, I was just as surprised! Apparently she turned him down before, but I guess persistence pays off!
Lyria: Wow! How romantic!
Vyrn: Heh-heh... Pretty crazy, huh?
Lyria: I'm so excited! Should we celebrate when she gets back?
Vyrn: Yeah, good idea! We can have a great big party, and then...
Vyrn: Wait... What will we do then? If she's getting married, won't she have to live here? Will she have to leave the crew?
Lyria: What? She won't be able to travel with us anymore?
Vyrn: Hmm... Well, it could happen.
Lyria: What? But it's too soon to say goodbye! I wanted to spend more time with her...
Lyria: ...
Lyria: Um... Did Rosetta really accept the proposal?
Vyrn: Uh... Probably? It looked like it at least.
Lyria: Probably? Vyrn! This is important!
Lyria: I've got to go see Rosetta! I can't let her get married like this!
Vyrn: Wha? Lyria! Wait!
Darn it, there she goes... She doesn't even know where Rosetta is.
Vyrn: We have to go after her before she gets herself lost. C'mon, (Captain)!
Meanwhile, at the mansion in the next town, Rosetta takes a break from preparing her suitor's meal to sneak down to the basement.
Rosetta: There it is.
Rosetta: This is definitely the dagger. So he's the one who took it.
Rosetta: But why?
Gentleman: There you are, my dear.
Rosetta: ...!
Gentleman: Allow me to explain. I cannot deny that I stole that dagger. But I want you to understand...
Gentleman: This belongs to that skyfarer, does it not? Seeing how important it was to you, I must admit I succumbed to jealousy.
Rosetta: Huh? Who are you talking about?
Gentleman: Ha-ha... What strange things we do in the name of love.
Rosetta: Well, I am certainly impressed by how strong your feelings are for me.
Rosetta: Don't you remember the girl who was always by his side? I borrowed this from her, and—
Gentleman: Yes, yes... All fond memories now. But we can catch up over dinner. Now let us return to the dining room.
Rosetta: ...
Rosetta: No, thank you. I'm done with my business here, so I'll take my leave.
Gentleman: You'll what? Ha-ha... But this is your house. You are to be my wife, are you not?
Rosetta: Of course not! That was just a lie to earn your trust, but I'm sure you'll find it in your heart to forgive me.
Gentleman: Is that so? Well, I suspected as much.
Gentleman: But I do not intend to let you leave. For I now have a power that surpasses even that of your precious skyfarer!
The crew, guided by Vyrn, arrives at the mansion just then. Lyria bangs frantically on the door.
Lyria: We object to the marriage! Give Rosetta back!
Vyrn: Hey, Lyria!
I understand how you feel, but I don't think we should be bothering them like—
Lyria: I don't care! Rosetta is our—
Gentleman: Good day. Are you perhaps Rosetta's skyfaring companions?
Lyria: That's right! We have something important to say to Rosetta, so let us see her!
Gentleman: Ah, well, this is unfortunate. I'm afraid she just left to return to you.
Vyrn: Really? But there's only one road leading here. How could we have missed her?
Gentleman: Perhaps she made a stop on her way? Now if you'll excuse me...
  1. Sorry to bother you.
  2. Something's up.

Choose: Sorry to bother you.
Gentleman: Such excellent manners. You must be the captain—

Choose: Something's up.
Gentleman: Ha-ha... What are you saying? I am her—
Continue 1
Gentleman: Wait... It's you!
Vyrn: Huh? What's up with you? Did (Captain) do something wrong?
Gentleman: You... This is all because of you. You were why she turned me down, and you still are!
Lyria: Huh? What do you—
Gentleman: Damn it all! It's your fault! All your fault!
Monster: Groar!
Lyria: He's summoned a monster!
Vyrn: Say what! Look out, Lyria! There's another one over there!
Gentleman: Bwahaha! This is the price you pay for getting in between me and my love!
Lyria: Aahh!
Monster: Grargh...
Rosetta: Phew... That was close.
Lyria: Rosetta!
Rosetta: Don't relax just yet. First we need to deal with these monsters. Are you ready, (Captain)?

Envy Throughout the Sky: Scene 2

Rosetta fends off the monsters with the crew and then faces her suitor. She has a complex history with him and only accepted his proposal to gain his confidence. He whips out dark essence and summons a powerful monster.

The crew defeats the monsters. Rosetta squares off against the confidently smiling man.
Rosetta: Did you really think you could imprison me within such a feeble barrier?
Gentleman: Heh-heh... I am indeed surprised you broke through it so quickly. You really are an incredible woman.
Rosetta: Thanks for that. Though I must admit that I'm intrigued. You don't look like a sorcerer.
Rosetta: So tell me... How did you gain this twisted power?
Gentleman: Want to know, do you? Then allow me to show you.
With a broad smile, the man pulls a darkly gleaming crystal from his pocket.
Lyria: That's... dark essence!
Vyrn: Hey! What are you doing with that!
Gentleman: When you broke my heart, I was left to wonder... What does that skyfarer possess that I do not?
Gentleman: And then it came to me... I needed power.
Gentleman: So I made a deal with an imperial researcher to win your affections back! It cost me a great deal too.
Rosetta: Ah... I figured as much.
Gentleman: Heh-heh... Can you see just what a prize I am now? But watch what else I can do!
Monster: Groar!
Rosetta: You really don't know when to quit, do you?
Rosetta: I'm sorry, everyone. I didn't want to drag you into all of this, but I would appreciate your help here.

Envy Throughout the Sky: Scene 3

Rosetta bids farewell to her suitor. Enraged by the secret she tells him, he swallows his dark essence and transforms into a grotesque monster.

When the crew defeats the monster, the exhausted man falls to his knees and glowers at (Captain).
Gentleman: Why... Why!
Gentleman: All I wanted was to be with you... Is my love not enough?
Rosetta: Oh... So you say, but I'm afraid I still can't understand your feelings.
Gentleman: Why? Surely I've been perfectly clear!
Rosetta: You know... I think I'll make an exception and spell it out this time. You see, I—
As she says this, Rosetta approaches the man and whispers something into his ear.
Gentleman: Wha... You can't be serious!
Rosetta: I'm sorry. I should have made that clear from the outset.
Gentleman: Ugh... I can't believe this. What was the point of any of this...
Rosetta: ...
Vyrn: Hey... What did you tell him? He looks crushed!
Rosetta: Huh? Hee-hee... That's a secret.
Lyria: Um... But what about all the talk of marriage? I don't understand...
Rosetta: Oh? Who said anything about marriage? Well, either way it doesn't matter now. Let's go home.
Gentleman: Wait...
Gentleman: You deceived me... Were you just playing with my heart this whole time?
Rosetta: Oh, heavens help me... You believed what you wanted from the start, and—
Gentleman: Silence! I'm done listening to your lies!
The enraged man suddenly swallows the dark essence, and his whole body begins shaking uncontrollably.
Rosetta: What? How could you do something so foolish!
Gentleman: Argh! My body! It's burning up!
Monster: Groar!
Vyrn: Whoa! He turned into a monster!
Lyria: Oh no! The dark essence inside him is running wild!
Rosetta: How unfortunate. I can't say that I sympathize with him... but we can't leave him like this, (Captain)!

Envy Throughout the Sky: Scene 4

The crew asks Rosetta about her connection to the man, but she dodges the question. She instead gives (Captain) a dagger the man stole, as its rightful owner. And then she gazes out at the ever-changing world, seemingly longing for a distant past.

The crew defeats the transformed man. He returns to his human form, apologizes for his actions, and immediately loses consciousness.
The crew carries him into his home and then returns to the Grandcypher.
Vyrn: Phew... I'm not really sure what happened there, but I'm glad Rosetta is all right!
Lyria: Yeah! I was so worried. I thought you were going to leave us...
Rosetta: Hee-hee... Of course not. He simply had something of mine and I went to get it back, although what happened afterward was quite unexpected.
Rosetta: Which reminds me, (Captain). I have something that I need to return to you.
Rosetta hands the well-used dagger to (Captain).
  1. What's this?
  2. This isn't mine.

Choose: What's this?
Rosetta: I suppose you could say that it's an old promise.

Choose: This isn't mine.
Rosetta: Indeed. Though it's something you were going to receive sooner or later.
Continue 1
Rosetta: Take it. Even if you don't fully grasp its meaning yet.
Rosetta: ...
Rosetta: No one is perfect. That's why we look for that special someone to complete us. That's where all the emotions we call love are born.
Rosetta: Those emotions hold great power, a power great enough to shake all the world.
Rosetta: Hee-hee... I'm almost a little jealous.
Vyrn: Huh? What are you going on about all of a sudden?
Rosetta: It's nothing... Now where's the food I left with you?
Lyria: Oh! I'm so sorry! It must still be in town...
Rosetta: Oh dear. I sure hope it wasn't stolen.
Vyrn: Great... Rackam will flip if we go back empty-handed. I'll go look for the food!
Rosetta: Hee-hee... Happy hunting!
The enigmatic Rosetta still has her secrets.
But the dagger in (Captain)'s hand glows with a gentle light that hints at a mystery even greater.

Island of the Rose Queen

After many consecutive days of traveling, the crew decides to rest on a nearby island. They discover it is the same island Rosetta once ruled over as Rose Queen before and during the War. While Lyria and the others shop in town, Rosetta heads into the forest she once called home. There she unexpectedly recovers a dagger she had received five hundred years prior, prompting long-forgotten memories to resurface.

Much time has passed since (Captain) and company began their journey across the skies. Today finds them enjoying a breeze on deck.
Vyrn: Huh? (Captain), ain't that an island over there?
Lyria: Oh my gosh, it's overflowing with trees! Doesn't it remind you of Lumacie a little?
Vyrn: Should we land there and take a break? We've been flying for a couple days straight now.
Lyria: That's a good idea! We can eat a good meal and take a walk around the forest! What do you think, (Captain)?
Rosetta: So this is where everyone was.
Rosetta: Oh my, that island up ahead...
Rosetta's expression darkens as she takes in the island that the others had spotted.
Lyria: Do you recognize it? Was it somewhere you visited during your previous journey?
Rosetta: I didn't go there with (Captain)'s dad, no. I actually purposefully avoided it...
Vyrn: You did? Is it some kinda awful place then?
Rosetta: No, it's a pretty pleasant island, but...
Vyrn: If that's the case, did somethin' happen to you there before?
Rosetta: You could say that. I guess there's no more reason to hide the truth from you all.
Taking a deep breath, Rosetta looks at (Captain), then Vyrn, then Lyria.
Rosetta: I told you before how the forest I used to live in was burned and razed during the War, didn't I?
Lyria: We remember. You fell from the island, and when you woke up, you were with Yggdrasil in Lumacie, right?
Lyria: Oh... Do you mean to say that... this is the island that you fell from?
Rosetta: The very same. It was the one I was once bound to watch over.
Rosetta: (It's also filled with a lot of bad memories. Even though it was under the Astrals' orders, I still killed many skydwellers...)
Vyrn: Is that right... Sorry, we didn't mean to drag up bad memories...
Rosetta: It's okay. You didn't know. Besides, it's a past I have to make peace with someday.
Lyria: Still... Maybe we should pick a different island to take a break on.
Rosetta: What's this about a break?
Vyrn: We were talkin' about findin' a place to stretch our legs since we've been in the air a while now.
Rosetta: I see.
Lyria: But we still have supplies to last us until we run into another island, so we don't have to land here or anything...
Rosetta: I appreciate the thought, Lyria.
Rosetta: We can land here. It's not good to travel while we're tired.
Vyrn: You sure?
Rosetta: I'm positive. You never know—it could be an opportunity for me.
Rosetta: To face the past and move forward...
Despite the listless look in Rosetta's eyes, the Grandcypher heads toward the island.
Lyria: There's so many people here! I didn't realize there was such a busy town inside all the trees.
Vyrn: You sure said it. Nice place. Has more buildings than Lumacie does, I bet.
Rosetta: You're probably right. It really developed these past five hundred years...
Arms crossed, Rosetta observes the busy street.
Rosetta: (Five hundred years is a long time for skydwellers.)
Rosetta: (It's strange to see there's no scars left from the war... I've seen other places already healed, of course, but...)
Rosetta: (There's no one left here that would remember me, which is expected.)
Rosetta: (I shouldn't be so surprised that it feels like nothing happened—that it's a different place now.)
Lyria: ...
Lyria: This must be very hard for Rosetta...
Giving a subtle nod to Lyria, (Captain) approaches Rosetta and points toward the trees outside town.
  1. Do you want to go into the forest?

Choose: Do you want to go into the forest?
Rosetta: To the forest? What for?
Vyrn: Sounds like a good idea to me. You used to live there, right?
Vyrn: I reckon the sights'll be more familiar back where you used to call home.
Rosetta: Maybe so. I guess it can't hurt to make the trip, at least.
Lyria: You should go ahead. We'll shop around a bit here first.
Rosetta: Thanks, Lyria. I appreciate the thoughtfulness.
Decision made, Rosetta makes her way into the forest alone.
Rosetta: It's very bright here...
Rosetta murmurs to herself, taking in the forest surroundings.
A decent amount of sunlight reaches the forest floor, thanks to the skydwellers trimming the greenery.
Rosetta: (The overgrowth made everything dark when I lived here.)
Rosetta: (I imagine that was the fault of primal beast Rose Queen ruling over this land...)
A wild rose—the symbol of Rose Queen—blooms at her feet.
As if trying to ascertain if the flower is a remnant of her prior rule, Rosetta reaches out to touch its crimson petals.
Forest Monster: Kwee?
Rosetta: What's this?
Forest Animal: Kwoon?
Rosetta: Everyone...
Rosetta: Right... At least the creatures living in this forest haven't changed at all.
Smiling warmly at monster and animal alike, Rosetta crouches down and lets them nuzzle her.
Rosetta: Ehehe, I see you're as friendly as ever.
Rosetta: So much has happened since I left, I'd almost forgotten you were my friends.
Forest Monster: Kwee!
Rosetta: You want to take me somewhere? All right, lead the way.
Rosetta: This is...
Following the forest creatures deeper into the woods, she finds herself at the base of a tree that stretches high into the sky.
Rosetta: You managed to survive the fire and grow to be big and strong.
She lays an affectionate hand on its hard trunk.
Rosetta: (It's a little too deep into the woods here for the skydwellers, so this area has remained fairly unchanged.)
Rosetta: I'm sorry I couldn't protect you back then, but I'm glad to see you've been doing well.
Rosetta: Hm? What was that?
As Rosetta spoke with the tree, a gentle breeze had blown by and caused something to drop from its branches.
She reaches down to discover a beautiful dagger decorated with a rose ornament.
Rosetta: Wait...
Rosetta: I remember this dagger! During the fighting...
Rosetta: I'm surprised you still have it. Did you keep it for me all this time?
The tree's branches and leaves rustle, as if to answer her question.
Rosetta: So it's been in your care. Did your branches protect it even from rust?
Rosetta: (I never ended up giving it to that child, since I completely forgot about it...)
The glittering blade summons memories from five hundred years ago, when Rosetta first received it.
Longing and regret, deeply buried within her heart, now resurface as she recalls the bitter defeat of that day.

Island of the Rose Queen: Scene 2

Rosetta relives memories from five hundred years prior. As the primal beast Rose Queen, she watched over the island and executed any skydwellers that defied her and the Astrals. One day, a young skydweller boy became lost in her forest. On a whim, Rosetta protected him and guided him to safety instead of executing him. For years, she watched over him each time he visited the forest, up until skydwellers across the skies joined forces in an open rebellion against the Astrals.

Rosetta: The Astrals controlled the skies when I first came to this world.
Rosetta: As a primal beast, I was ordered by the Astrals to rule over an island and its skydwellers.
Rosetta: Like other primal beasts, I formed a pact with my island in order to bring out the full extent of my power.
Rosetta: The forest here was dark, already thick with trees and vegetation before I came, but the addition of my power blocked out even more of the light.
Rosetta: I ruled over the skydwellers from this black forest, using their fear of the dark and the unknown to my advantage.
Worker Bee: Bzz?
Rose Queen: Come to collect more rose nectar today? Wait just a moment.
Rose Queen: Here, the roses are in full bloom. Take as much as you can carry, and use it to make lovely honey.
Worker Bee: Bzz!
Rose Queen: Hehe...
???: There's a lot more roses around here than usual. She has to be nearby!
Rose Queen: (Is that a skydweller I hear? I assume they've come to fight me again.)
Skydweller: Found her! Evil witch, today is the day you fall! Freedom to the skies!
Rose Queen: How many more of you must die before you realize you have no chance of winning?
Rose Queen: My dear roses, drink the blood of these fools and bloom a bewitching crimson!
Skydweller: Argh...
Rosetta: Occasionally, skydwellers seeking to overthrow the Astrals' rule would enter my stronghold.
Rosetta: I pierced them all with the thorns of my roses, just as I was ordered to by my Astral masters.
Rosetta: I never had to expend any of my true strength. The skydwellers perished within moments, weak and fragile as they were.
Rose Queen: They know the difference in power between us, so why do they keep trying over and over again?
Rosetta: The average lifespan of a skydweller seemed extremely brief, especially in the eyes of a primal beast unaffected by the notion of death.
Rosetta: I couldn't understand why they would waste their already short lives trying to fight me.
Rosetta: At the time, I thought them foolish and weak—prideful despite their shortcomings too.
Docile Monster: Kwee, kwee!
Rose Queen: Come again to play? You really love being spoiled, don't you.
Rose Queen: It just so happens that I have some ripened rose hips. Are you hungry?
Docile Monster: Kwee, kwee!
Rose Queen: What is it?
Island Boy: Sob... Where am I?
Rosetta: On that day, I was frolicking with monsters in the afternoon like I always did.
Rosetta: The child was crying, walking towards me as he struggled through the brush.
Rose Queen: Either he's lost, or this is a trap from the skydwellers.
Rosetta: His eyes were dripping with so many tears that he didn't notice my presence.
Rosetta: If I went out to help him and it really was a trap, then my location would be revealed to anyone lying in wait.
Rosetta: I decided to hide among my rose hedges and observe for the time being.
Island Boy: Sniffle... I wanna go home... But I dunno which way to go...
Island Boy: I can't find a blue rose either... I need it to make my wish come true... Wahh... Waahhh!
Rose Queen: (A blue rose that makes wishes come true? I feel like I've heard a skydweller tell a story about that before.)
Rose Queen: (I suppose that's why this child is here. He has no idea that blue roses don't grow naturally, does he?)
Docile Monster: Kwee?
Island Boy: Eep! A monster! Ahhh, I'm sorry! Please don't eat me!
Island Boy: Ah!
Rose Queen: (Wow, he actually fell over because of a critter that small and cute.)
Rose Queen: (A living being as weak as him will easily die even without my interference.)
Rosetta: I kept my eyes peeled and found nobody else lurking nearby. The child was truly alone and lost.
Rosetta: The logical thing to do next would have been to deal with him. Even though he hadn't spotted me yet, he had come too close to my domain.
Rosetta: I should've eliminated him on the spot, and yet...
Rose Queen: Exhale...
Island Boy: Huh? The flowers are blooming?
Island Boy: Whoa! This is... the blue wish rose! Now I can see Mommy again!
Island Boy: But... I still don't know how to go home...
Island Boy: The trees... They're making a tunnel... Are they showing me the way back?
Docile Monster: Kwee, kwee!
Island Boy: Are you saying you wanna be my guide? Hold on, lemme pick a rose first!
Rose Queen: Hehe... Keep going straight, and you'll find the forest's exit.
Rosetta: I didn't know why I did it.
Rosetta: I only knew for certain that I had completely lost interest in killing a creature so utterly weak.
Rosetta: Even though he'd acquired the blue rose he wanted, the child continued to come back to the forest.
Wild Monster: Grrr...
Island Boy: Wah!
Rose Queen: What is he doing?
Rosetta: For some foolish reason, he put himself in danger despite his previous close call. I found myself unable to look the other way...
Island Boy: Huh? Why are all the roses suddenly blooming?
Wild Monster: Grawr?
Island Boy: Oh... It ran away.
Rosetta: It only took a little bit of power to show my presence and scare monsters away. I had to do it countless times after to keep him safe.
Rosetta: Had I developed an attachment to him? No, he was a skydweller. I was only doing it on a whim.
Rosetta: Perhaps observing him would reveal to me what the purpose of such a weak existence was...
Island Girl: Hey... We should turn around. The forest is pretty dangerous.
Island Boy: It'll be fine! The mother of the forest will protect us!
Island Girl: Who? Only the scary rose primal beast lives here.
Island Boy: Like I said, the forest has a mother! She's always here, watching over everything!
Island Boy: There's a secret place close by with a big fruit tree! Come on!
Island Girl: Wait for me!
Rose Queen: Hmm, is that a friend, or maybe something more?
Rose Queen: And what's this about a mother of the forest? I wonder what he would say if he knew who I really was.
Rose Queen: (Wait, since when do I care what he thinks?)
Rose Queen: Good grief, he isn't one of my trees or animal friends.
Rosetta: Time passes incredibly fast for skydwellers.
Rosetta: When I first saw him, he was small enough to hide in a bush, but in the blink of an eye, he had become an adult.
Island Man: The forest is peaceful as usual today.
Island Woman: Just like it's always been. The monsters still leave you alone too.
Island Man: Because the forest mother lives here.
Island Woman: You know, that mother you keep going on about... She has to be the one that's controlling—
Island Man: Let's not discuss that here. We came to relax, just the two of us, didn't we?
Island Woman: You're right. It's been a while since we've hung out together.
Island Woman: What did you want to talk to me about?
Island Man: Um... There's something I've been wanting to confess for a while now.
Island Woman: What is it?
Island Man: The truth is, I... I really lo... love...
Island Woman: Love what?
Island Man: Love showing my secret places to you! I found somewhere beautiful nearby! It's this way!
Island Woman: Geez... You'll have to be more brave than that when you gift your dagger.
Rose Queen: Hehe, young love is in the air, though it seems like it's not progressing much.
Rose Queen: (He grew up so fast... Now he's not far off from the age of the soldiers they sent my way before.)
Rose Queen: (But I'm still the same. I've never had a childhood to speak of, and I'll never age...)
Rose Queen: ...
Rose Queen: (What is this feeling? Something must be wrong with me...)
Skydweller 1: Have you heard the rumors? An island to the west has started a full-on rebellion against the Astrals.
Skydweller 2: Heard the same about an island to the north too. Guess the flames of war are spreadin'.
Rose Queen: (These voices must be coming from the forest entrance...)
Skydweller 1: Don't you think it's about time for us to pick up our swords too?
Skydweller 2: My old man died in these woods, you know... Thanks to that lousy primal beast livin' here!
Skydweller 1: As if we'll let her rule over us forever. We're taking back our island this time around!
Rose Queen: (Are the skydwellers really committing to an open rebellion?)
Rose Queen: (What's the point of starting a war you can't win?)
Rosetta: I was aware of the coming war, but thought it would be nothing more than a passing annoyance.
Rosetta: I never could have fathomed losing to the skydwellers I deemed weak and fragile.

Island of the Rose Queen: Scene 3

At the beginning of the War, Rosetta easily dealt with the rebellious skydwellers that came her way, but eventually their assaults grew to be effective. The day came when she was finally pushed back, and in the middle of her retreat, she came across the young man she had once watched over. Extremely injured, he addressed her as Mother Rosetta and barely had enough time to entrust her with a dagger before passing away. Rosetta hid the dagger in between some branches but was unable to retrieve it before the forest burned and she fell from the island.

Rebel 1: Press forward! That primal beast is up ahead!
Rosetta: The fighting began—the largest war in history, as it would later be known.
Rosetta: My battlefield was the forest I'd always protected. The heavy boots of armed skydwellers soon trod through.
Rosetta: I unleashed my power against them in retaliation for the plants they trampled, the monsters they felled, and the destruction they brought to my home.
Rose Queen: I'll put you in your place! Pierce them, my roses!
Rebel 1: Augh...
Rebel 2: Hey, you all right? Damn it... You thorny monster!
Rose Queen: Haaaaaah!
Rebel 2: Tch... There's no end to 'em!
Rebel 2: Retreat! Pull back! Grab the wounded and make a break for it!
Rosetta: Helpless against the godlike powers of a primal beast, the skydwellers scattered like rats and ran for their lives.
Rosetta: They returned again and again afterward, hoping for a victory against all odds. I sent them packing every time.
Rosetta: I thought they would quickly realize their efforts were futile. After enough defeats, they'd fall into despair and go back to being obedient.
Rosetta: My expectations couldn't have been more wrong. Much like a mortal's rapid development from child to adult...
Rosetta: The skydwellers swiftly learned how to work together, gather knowledge, and develop new tactics.
Rosetta: By the time I noticed, it was too late.
Rebel 1: Get as much fire in there as you can! We'll burn through the wall of thorns!
Rebel 2: The east side's open! Push in through there!
Rose Queen: They broke through? Impossible!
Rosetta: As the sturdy walls of thorns and thickets protecting the forest were broken down, light began to seep into the darkness inside.
Rosetta: I couldn't believe it. These weak and fragile creatures were actually driving me into a corner.
Rose Queen: This is as far as you go. I won't let you take away our home—not from me, nor any of the creatures living here!
Rebel 2: More thorns! But who cares! This means we're making progress! Victory's in sight!
Rebel 1: That's right! Don't give up now! We'll show those Astrals to give us the respect we deserve and take back our home!
Rebels: Raaahh!
Rose Queen: ...!
Rosetta: The skydwellers' voices grew bolder with every passing day. No matter how many injuries they suffered, they picked themselves back up and tried again.
Rosetta: Every encouraging shout I heard was like a needle thrust into my heart... It turned out the one who'd fall into despair was me.
Rose Queen: How is this happening? They were supposed to be easily crushed, and yet... Why am I the one afraid?
Rose Queen: (No... This feeling in my chest isn't fear. It's cold, yet warm...)
Rose Queen: Am I... crying?
Rose Queen: (Oh... I'm envious of them... of the skydwellers...)
Rosetta: Unlike the mortals who could share their burdens and unite for a common cause, I was completely alone.
Rosetta: Loneliness was not an emotion needed for the role given to me, but somewhere along the way, I'd learned how to feel it.
Rosetta: If only I had a comrade too... But I was the only primal beast on my island.
Rose Queen: ...
Rebel 1: We've carved a way through! Push forward!
Rose Queen: ...!
Rosetta: Unable to withstand anymore, I ran for the heart of the forest.
Rose Queen: Huh?
???: Pant... Wheeze...
Rosetta: In front of me was a skydweller bleeding out on the ground.
Rosetta: There was no mistaking who he was—I had protected him since he was a young boy, after all.
Rosetta: Had he been hit by a comrade's bomb? Or did one of my roses pierce him through? Either way, he was at death's door...
Rose Queen: ...
Island Man: Who...
Island Man: Oh... I see, you're... Mother Rosetta, right?
Rose Queen: I don't remember having a name like that.
Island Man: Sorry, that's just what I... called you in my head...
Rose Queen: You knew who I was all along, didn't you? But you still thought of me as the mother of the forest.
Island Man: Because you're... kind...
Rose Queen: What?
Island Man: The blue wish rose... I wanted to meet my deceased mother, but...
Island Man: I found you instead... even if we never met face to face...
Rose Queen: I can't wrap my head around this. You know I'm an enemy of all skydwellers.
Island Man: No... Surely, in a different century, you—
Island Man: Cough, hack...
Rose Queen: ...
Rose Queen: I'm leaving.
Island Man: Wait... Take this...
Rosetta: With a bloodied hand, he held out a beautiful dagger decorated by an ornamental rose.
Rose Queen: What is this?
Island Man: It's... for...
Rosetta: Before he could finish his last words, he faded away.
Rose Dagger: ...
Rose Queen: It's a beautiful blade. Did he want me to give it to his beloved?
Rose Queen: I highly doubt it's intended for me.
Rose Queen: What was that?
Rebel 1: Grab more gunpowder! We're gonna burn this entire place to the ground!
Rose Queen: (They want to burn the whole forest? The flames... They're spreading!)
Rose Queen: I can't just stand here doing nothing!
Rosetta: Conjuring a bush of roses, I stuck the dagger in between its branches.
Rosetta: I'd worry about delivering the dagger to its intended owner later—assuming I should even bother in the first place.
Rosetta: In the end, I never came back for it, because that was the day I lost the forest to the skydwellers' flames...
Rosetta: ...
Rosetta: I'd almost forgotten that had happened, at least until I laid eyes on this again.
Rosetta stares at the captivating dagger in her hands as a gentle breeze blows by.
Rosetta: It wouldn't be right for me to hold onto it, but what else can I do?
Five hundred years have passed. The man's beloved is long gone, and no one is left that will remember her.
But Rosetta knows she can't leave the dagger there. With it in hand, she makes her way slowly back to town.

Love Eternal

Believing the young man's dagger was meant to be a gift for his lover, Rosetta now wonders what to do, as his lover has long since passed away in the span of five hundred years. The crew suggests looking for a descendant of his lover instead, but after much fruitless searching, the group decides to take a lunch break. Curious about a different dagger that Rosetta had previously gifted to (Captain), the captain asks her about it. Rosetta explains that it was a gift from (Captain)'s parents, meant to keep the captain safe.

The crew arrives at the island Rosetta once had a pact with five hundred years ago.
It is a place that evokes painful memories, including her defeat during the War.
Ill at ease in the skydweller town which has completely changed since the War, Rosetta makes her way to the forest she lived in long ago.
There she finds the dagger that a young man had given to her in the midst of a battlefield.
After recalling the experiences that led to her receiving the gift, Rosetta brings it back to town and reunites with the others.
Vyrn: Kinda crazy that it's been five hundred years, but it still shines like it's brand new.
Lyria: You said the man who gave it to you wanted it to go to his beloved, right?
Rosetta: That's right. The day he gave it to me was the day my forest burned, so I never had the opportunity to.
Rosetta: Also... I know this sounds like an excuse, but at the time, I wasn't exactly a big fan of skydwellers. I don't know if I would've done it even if I had the chance to.
Vyrn: Can't say I blame ya. With the war goin' on, it woulda been tough to be friends with your enemies.
Rosetta: True...
Island Youth: Because you're... kind...
Island Youth: The blue wish rose... I wanted to meet my deceased mother, but...
Island Youth: I found you instead... even if we never met face to face...
Rosetta: (He trusted me. That's why he entrusted the dagger to me.)
Rosetta: (But where did such trust come from?)
Vyrn: Hmm, it's been a whole five hundred years though.
Vyrn: His girlfriend is long gone, and I don't think anyone left around here woulda ever met her.
Rosetta: Fair points, which is why I'm not sure what to do. It'd be nice if we could find the right someone to give it to...
  1. What about one of her descendants?
  2. Why don't you just take it?

Choose: What about one of her descendants?
Rosetta: A family member down the line...
Lyria: There's a lot of people on this island. It's possible that some of her family still lives here.
Lyria: Maybe we can find someone by asking around and explaining that it belonged to somebody's ancestor here a long time ago.
Rosetta: Not a bad suggestion. It's better if a relative holds onto it instead of me.

Choose: Why don't you just take it?
Rosetta: That is an idea I've thought of already...
Rosetta: But it doesn't sit right with me to take a gift that was meant for someone else, even if that someone has already passed.
Lyria: It would be awkward to take something that meant a lot to another person...
Lyria: Oh! What if we found one of her descendants and gave it to them instead?
Rosetta: A descendent... It's possible one still lives, considering how populated the town is.
Rosetta: The gift will never reach the original recipient, but... It's better than me holding onto it.
Continue 1
Lyria: Then let's get to searching!
The crew stop everyone they can find in town, showing the dagger and explaining who they're looking for.
To anyone curious, they clarify that they're carrying out a client's request and omit Rosetta's true identity.
Town Woman: A dagger from five hundred years ago? Sorry, but I don't know anything about it.
Rosetta: According to our client, the intended recipient lived in this town. Does any of this ring any bells?
Town Woman: Hmm... It's a really ornate dagger. I'm guessing it was meant to be proof of true love.
Vyrn: Whaddya mean by that?
Town Woman: See, this town has an age-old tradition of getting engaged by gifting a dagger, not a ring. Hence why I called it proof of true love.
Town Woman: Used to be that it would be men doing the gifting, but recently women have started doing it too.
Rosetta: A proposal gift... Seems likely that's what our dagger was meant to be.
Town Woman: With how decorated it is, I bet the person who had it commissioned really thought the world of their beloved.
Town Woman: A symbol of love that's lasted five hundred years... It'd be nice if it found its way to the right person.
Lyria: Wouldn't it? Thanks for your help!
The search continues, but without even a name to go off of, the crew runs into dead end after dead end.
After a couple hours of fruitless searching, they decide to stop at a restaurant to eat and recharge.
Vyrn: This is pretty tough. The only clue we got is that it was a Human woman...
Rosetta: I'm sorry, you were meant to be taking an overdue break, but here you are helping me...
Lyria: Don't worry about it! We're always happy to help, especially when we get to learn more about you!
Lyria: It's nice to know that you've always been a kind person, even back then!
Rosetta: Is that so?
Island Youth: Because you're... kind...
Rosetta: I doubt I'm as kind as you think, especially in the past...
Lyria: Huh? Did I say something weird?
Rosetta: No, no. I'm flattered you think that way of me.
Despite her words, Rosetta still wears a troubled frown.
The silence that follows is broken by a question that's been nagging at (Captain)'s mind for a while.
  1. By the way, about this dagger...

Choose: By the way, about this dagger...
Rosetta: Hm? What are you talking about?
(Captain) pulls out a familiar-looking white dagger.
It was previously stolen by a gentleman who sought to take Rosetta for himself, but his plans were swiftly foiled.
When Rosetta reclaimed it, she stated it was (Captain)'s by right and gave it to the captain without any further explanation.
  1. Could you tell me more about it?

Choose: Could you tell me more about it?
Vyrn: That's the one Rosetta gave you, yeah? It kinda reminds me of the dagger we're dealin' with right now.
Lyria: Now that you mention it... Was this dagger also meant to be proof of love?
Rosetta: It was, though I don't think anybody called it that.
  1. What?

Choose: What?
Rosetta: Not surprising that you're confused. I haven't explained anything, after all.
Rosetta: It's about time I revealed the truth anyway.
Taking the dagger out of (Captain)'s hand, Rosetta gazes at it with nostalgia in her eyes.
Rosetta: This was once a gift that your father gave to your mother.
Rosetta: We'd just arrived at an island that had a similar tradition of gifting a dagger to the person you wished to marry...
Rosetta: He secretly commissioned this beautiful dagger and presented it to her with a proclamation of love.
Lyria: Oh my gosh, that's so romantic!
Rosetta: It certainly was. I remember how happy all of us in the crew were for them.
Rosetta: To fall in love, join together, and birth new life... Skydwellers are capable of so much.
Rosetta: I must admit, it fascinated me to view it up close. These were things I had never experienced.
Lyria: Hehe, you really do love skydwellers, don't you?
Rosetta: Somewhere along the line, I truly did grow to like you all.
Rosetta: (My old self could've never imagined it...)
Vyrn: So if that was the old man's gift to (Captain)'s mom, how'd it end up with you?
Rosetta: She gave it to me when (Captain) was still in her stomach.
Rosetta: Asked me to gift it whenever I met (Captain) traveling the world on their own journey.
Rosetta: At that point, she knew she wouldn't be around to do it herself...
Rosetta: Then, as you know, I made my own mistakes, and it ended up being stolen from me.
Vyrn: Huh, so that's what happened. I'm glad we were able to get it back!
Rosetta: Me too.
With a satisfied nod, Rosetta gives the dagger back to (Captain).
Rosetta: It's more than a simple gift. It's intended to ward away evil and keep you safe throughout your long journey.
Rosetta: Your mother wanted to watch over you somehow, even if she couldn't be physically there to do it.
Rosetta: You're free to use it however you like. I only ask that you keep it close and treasure it.
  1. Of course I will!

Choose: Of course I will!
Rosetta: Hehe, good. If she were here now, I know she'd be overjoyed to hear it.
Rosetta smiles at her captain, a gentle warmth in her gaze.

Love Eternal: Scene 2

The sight of (Captain)'s dagger draws out old memories of Rosetta's journey with (Captain)'s father. Throughout her travels with him, Rosetta met many skydwellers who pestered her with their infatuation, but she eventually became fascinated by skydwellers in turn after watching (Captain)'s parents fall in love. Back in the present, the crew wraps up lunch and returns to searching for the right person to give the dagger to.

Rosetta: (Seeing (Captain)'s dagger truly does bring up some old memories.)
Rosetta muses to herself as she idly sips at her drink.
Lyria: The flowers decorating this restaurant are very pretty!
Lyria: Oh! That one over there has petals matching my hair color! What kind of flower do you think it is, (Captain)?
Rosetta: (Hehe, it's adorable how excited she is.)
Rosetta: (Five hundred years ago, I would've never imagined relaxing like this with skydwellers in my everyday life.)
Rosetta: (Everything changed when that man brought me with him on his journey...)
Old memories come to mind as Rosetta watches (Captain) and friends chat with one another.
Rosetta: For instance, I didn't know objects could hold emotional value. Primal beasts have no need for such a practice.
Rosetta: We live forever. A goodbye for now will never be a goodbye forever.
Rosetta: The way skydwellers lived their short lives was a complete mystery to me.
Rosetta: I was especially clueless back when I could only observe them from the darkness of my forest...
Rosetta: But after joining that man's crew, I was able to learn from up close as we traveled across all sorts of islands, sharing our food and living quarters together.
Rosetta: Wow... He goes too much out of his way for others.
Rosetta: Are all skydwellers this meddlesome? Or is he a special case?
Rosetta: Hehe, he really knows how to cause a scene. Life is short for mortals, so why does he live so recklessly?
Rosetta: I could already tell he was strange one, considering he made a primal beast like me a crew member.
Rosetta: But he went beyond even my expectations of strange. He lived to help others, no matter the cost.
Rosetta: Journeying with him was a breath of fresh air. Even observing from the sidelines was entertaining.
Rosetta: Through our adventures, I eventually began to understand why I lost during the war...
Rosetta: That, and the reason behind the yearning and loneliness I had deemed unnecessary.
Rosetta: Exhale... Things are looking a little dicey.
Rosetta: I suppose I should step in. Today's request is a lot tougher than expected.
Rosetta: I was changing, even though primal beasts weren't supposed to. Perhaps he possessed a special power of some kind.
Rosetta: I found myself making up reasons to join even the most mundane jobs, just to be able to travel to different islands and meet different people.
Rosetta: But because I was a primal beast, that presented another sort of problem...
Infatuated Man: My heart hasn't stopped pounding since I laid eyes on you!
Infatuated Man: I beg of you, stay on this island with me! We could—
Rosetta: I'm sorry, but I'm only on this island because my captain invited me aboard his crew. I can't simply abandon him on a whim.
Infatuated Man: Then let me have a chat with him! I'm serious about my feelings for you!
Rosetta: If you're always this eager without considering you're partner's feelings, then I'm afraid you're going to stay single forever.
Rosetta: I'll take my leave now. It's almost time for our departure.
Infatuated Man: Wait, please!
Rosetta: My power attracted skydwellers—they became tempted by a rose without being careful of the thorns underneath.
Rosetta: The countless declarations of love that followed me became a constant source of headache.
Rosetta: It was exhausting, denying each and every infatuated person.
Rosetta: Sigh... Today's annoyance didn't know how to take a hint.
Rosetta: Why does it always end up like this...
Rosetta: I was programmed from the beginning to carry myself with grace and allure. I didn't know any other way to act.
Rosetta: It was a fault I found silly to have, but sometimes it caused me great grief.
Rosetta: For all the downs I had, there were also many ups. Not many can claim they had a front row seat to true love.
Rosetta: Hehe, I didn't think him capable of being classy and emulating an island's tradition of gifting a dagger.
Rosetta: Cheers and celebrations were had throughout the crew that day. I, too, wished their love nothing but the best.
Rosetta: They later married, grew closer than ever before, and created new life—their love given a physical form.
Rosetta: That was probably the moment I realized how much I loved skydwellers.
Rosetta: Looks like many places have customs which place emotional value in objects, including symbols of true love.
Rosetta: (I feel like I've seen something like this before... Someone wishing to give a dagger to a loved one... But I can't quite recall.)
Rosetta: Well, either way... This is probably the first time I've genuinely been this happy for someone else. I didn't think myself capable of it.
At one point, that man actually told me I'd softened up a bit—that I'd become a kinder person.
I was struck again by the realization that kindness wasn't a trait I needed to fulfill my purpose and bend others to my will.
It was surprising to hear, but not upsetting, strangely enough.
Perhaps it was because I finally knew love beyond the infatuation of those countless suitors...
That was when a warmth grew in my heart. I knew I wanted to treasure it forever.
Rosetta: (A lot has happened since then... My journey with that man may have ended, but...)
Rosetta: (I met (Captain), and now I'm traveling once more.)
Rosetta: (I also met Io, a blossoming bud to whom I can teach so much...)
Rosetta: (I've changed so much, haven't I? In small and large ways...)
Rosetta lifts the verdant dagger from the table.
Rosetta: (I wonder what that young man would say if he could see me now.)
Rosetta: (I'll never know, of course...)
Vyrn: Phew... I'm all outta apple juice. Everyone ready to hit the streets again?
Rosetta: I know I am. Hopefully this time, we'll find the descendant we're looking for.
Bellies full and bodies rested, (Captain) and crew leave the restaurant to begin their search once more.

Love Eternal: Scene 3

Rosetta and crew find an elderly woman who explains that, if the dagger is truly from five hundred years ago, there should be an inscription hidden somewhere on it. Sure enough, they discover the name Mother Rosetta engraved under the ornamental rose, meaning it was meant for Rosetta all along. Realizing the young man had foreseen her future companionship with skydwellers, Rosetta keenly feels her affection for her mortal friends once more and resolves to fight with them to the ends of the skies.

In order to find the descendant of the dagger's intended recipient, (Captain) and crew run around town questioning people.
Town Elder: I'm sorry, but considering we don't get many people moving in and out, most everyone in town is related to someone who lived here five hundred years ago.
Town Elder: I'm sure the descendant you're looking for is one of us, but which one of us is not something I can tell you...
Rosetta: I figured as much. It would've been nice to at least have a name, but...
Rosetta: The only clue we have is that she was a Human woman.
Town Elder: Hmm... I see...
Town Elder: Actually, I just remembered something my great-grandmother once told me.
Town Elder: During the chaos of the war, people started giving daggers as protective charms to keep their loved ones safe.
Town Elder: Part of making a dagger work as a charm was engraving the recipient's name somewhere on it.
Lyria: So what you're saying is...
Town Elder: It's possible your dagger has a name on it somewhere, especially since it's from five hundred years ago.
The crew quickly inspect every surface of the dagger.
Vyrn: I don't see nothin' though.
Rosetta: There's nothing beneath the rose ornament either.
Town Elder: Hehehe, they'd never have put it somewhere easy to see, otherwise the engraving could've gotten damaged during the fighting.
Town Elder: Usually, it was somewhere hidden inside.
Town Elder: Would you mind lending me the dagger for a moment?
Rosetta: Not at all.
The elder takes the dagger, then removes a safety pin from a pouch.
One thrust of the pin into a small hole above the rose ornament later, there is a click as something slides out of place.
Crew: ...!
Town Elder: Hehehe, if you'll excuse me...
The elder gently grasps the rose ornament and slides it smoothly off the blade.
Doing so reveals a small engraving where the rose ornament was. Everyone gathers closely to peer at it.
Vyrn: Is it just me... or does this say Mother Rosetta on it?
Rosetta: But why? That would mean...
Town Elder: Seems like it's a familiar name to you. I suppose you'll find your recipient quite quickly now.
Rosetta: I'd like to clarify something. These daggers are meant as a proposal gift, aren't they?
Town Elder: Sure they are. A dagger is meant to be proof of true love in these parts.
Town Elder: But according to my great-grandmother, they used to be less of a serious gift.
Rosetta: What do you mean?
Town Elder: I'm not saying the daggers symbolized anything less than true love back then—only that it could also be gifted to family and close friends.
Town Elder: Judging by the name written on yours, it was probably a gift from a child who was raised by a single mother and wanted to show their appreciation.
Rosetta: A gift from a child to their mother...
Town Elder: Hehehe, whatever the truth is, I'm sure it's a heartwarming story.
Town Elder: You should tell whoever you're giving it to, to treasure it. It's quite a special piece.
The elder hands the dagger back to Rosetta, gives her smile, then turns around to walk slowly away.
Lyria: Um, this Mother Rosetta has to be you, doesn't it?
Rosetta: During the war... I was only known by the name Rose Queen.
Rosetta: I only began to call myself Rosetta once I started traveling with (Captain)'s father.
Rosetta: Rose Queen seemed a bit too imposing to use casually, so I adopted a name that held the meaning of roses.
Vyrn: I can see that.
Rosetta: But... When that man gave this to me, he did call me mother Rosetta.
Rosetta: Probably because I was the mother of roses...
Rosetta: No wonder I thought the name Rosetta sounded familiar, back when I took it for myself. It was because he had called me it first.
Lyria: Sounds to me like the dagger wasn't meant for his beloved... It was for you.
Vyrn: Hold on. You said he handed it to you in the middle of a battlefield, right?
Vyrn: If it was meant for his lover in the first place, wouldn't he have gifted it to her back in town?
Rosetta: Now that you mention it... Why didn't I realize that earlier?
Rosetta: (From the very beginning, the townspeople and I exchanged so much blood.)
Rosetta: (He would've been conflicted with what side to take: mine, or his people?)
Rosetta: (Was this dagger the answer he chose? Is that why he gave it in the middle of a battlefield?)
Rosetta: (If so... I can see why. Skydwellers seem to have a habit of doing crazy things...)
In her hands, Rosetta turns the ornamental rose to-and-fro.
She catches a glimpse of another engraving where the rose normally rests against the blade: Love Eternal.
Rosetta: (A love that lasts forever... One that would stay with me even after he passed on, perhaps?)
Rosetta: (I can't believe he would give something so pure and genuine to someone like me...)
Island Youth: Because you're... kind...
Island Youth: The blue wish rose... I wanted to meet my deceased mother, but...
Island Youth: I found you instead... even if we never met face to face...
Rose Queen: I can't wrap my head around this. You know I'm an enemy of all skydwellers.
Island Youth: No... Surely, in a different century, you—
Rosetta: ...
Rosetta: (You knew before even I did that my future would be spent befriending skydwellers and living among them...)
Rosetta: Hehehe... Sniffle...
Lyria: Rosetta, are you... crying?
Rosetta: Yes, I'm afraid this is all a little emotional for me.
Rosetta: (Will skydwellers never cease overturning expectations?)
Vyrn: Wow, I don't think I've ever seen you look this happy before!
Rosetta: I can't help it. A beautiful gift like this is almost wasted on someone like me...
She returns to the ornamental rose to its place on the dagger and holds it close to her heart.
Rosetta: (Captain).
  1. What is it?

Choose: What is it?
Rosetta: I probably should've said this a lot sooner, but I love you and your crew.
Rosetta: I hope you'll continue to let me fight by your side.
  1. Of course!
  2. I won't forget you said that.

Choose: Of course!
(Captain) shoots Rosetta a grin and holds a hand out.
Rosetta: Thank you. We'll get through whatever challenges lie ahead together.
Rosetta takes the proffered hand and gives it a gentle squeeze.

Choose: I won't forget you said that.
Rosetta: Oh, don't tell me you're still upset that I stayed behind that time to help Yggdrasil.
Rosetta: You have nothing to worry about. I promise I won't recklessly risk my life like that again.
Rosetta: No more standing on the sidelines observing or watching over from afar. I'll be right there fighting alongside you.
Rosetta gives the captain a resolute nod, which (Captain) returns.
