These are the collected—and forbidden—writings of the great alchemist Zosimos, a rapacious pioneer who stretched the frontiers of mortal knowledge. He favored intricate parables and allegories; to unravel even one of his truths takes centuries. Small wonder, then, that much of this tome is still undeciphered.

Etymology

• "Zosimos" likely refers to Zosimos of Panopolis, a Greco-Egyptian alchemist and Gnostic mystic who lived at the end of the 3rd and beginning of the 4th century AD. He wrote the oldest known books on alchemy, which he called "Cheirokmeta".
